Sick from antibiotics

2024.05.10 04:58 glizzerd12 Sick from antibiotics

Hi! I recently had a bad illness (symptoms started about 1.5 weeks ago) that began with a very swollen right lymph node in my neck a few days prior to having any symptoms. After the first ER visit I was negative for strep so they said it was likely viral pharyngitis but it later progressed into high fevers, extreme headaches, nausea and pain in my throat to the point i couldn’t eat anything. After returning they tested for mono which was negative so they said it was likely an infection and I was given augmentin (amox clav) 2x a day 875 mg. After taking it I noticed the symptoms of the illness improved but now I had a new debilitating set of symptoms. I was so nauseous I would be gagging forcing myself to eat and would get so dizzy and lightheaded I could not stand for sometimes hours at a time. I also noticed swelling in my face, tightness in my throat and headaches that were so bad I would wake up from my sleep that felt different than the headaches I had before. I ended up calling the doctor who prescribed the antibiotics and he said to stop them all together and not prescribe something else. Yesterday (the first day I had not taken them) I was able to eat a normal meal for me for the first time in 1.5 weeks after eating bites of food and low calories all week. I ended up throwing it up 5 hours later. I drank some gatorade, a probiotic drink and a protein shake after to try to recover the nutrients. Today I still feel extremely nauseous and weak. Is this normal after coming off antibiotics? I really want to begin going back to my normal life since I haven’t been able to work or barely leave the house in a week and a half but it’s hard when I’m still not able to eat normally and feel so weak. Is there anything I can do to feel better quickly? Has anyone else experienced this? Sorry this is a lot to read but I wanted to include all the details!

2024.05.06 14:50 spirit_of_a_goat Help with medicine and feeding schedule

19 month old neutered male mastiff mix weighs 87 lbs. He was hospitalized for NSAID overdose Saturday and released Sunday. He needs to take these meds:
gabapentin 300mg (1-2 capsules every 8-12 hours as needed for pain or sedation) 500 mg amoxi-clav (2 tablets every 12 hours with food). Here are the instructions for the medications sent home with us.
He is usually fed at 6am and 6pm.
He had his sucralfate at 9pm last night and 5am this morning. Fed at 6am today with 300mg gabapentin and 1000mg amoxi-clav.
I am so confused about all this. Can someone please just give me a medication and feeding schedule? The two medications that can't be taken with sucralfate are really throwing me for a loop. And does he have to eat an hour after every dose of it?
Please help. Thank you.

2024.05.05 03:54 bowlingniko The cure

I took Amox clav 875 mg 2 times a day, physical fitness, take it slow , then ramp it up. Keep your heart rate constantly beating . Walk in a circle in a park, as fast pace as possible. Keep taking amox and fitness until you feel sharp again. Avoid this sub. Been hauling for 5 months before i decided to ask doctors for amox.
Edit: Im totally off the amox. I was only on it for 5 days so i doubt it did much. It definitely helped a bit but perhaps it was a placebo. I forced myself to walk long distances and kept my heartrate up while on Amox so maybe the amox did nothing and it was just the bloodflow of my body. Perhaps I thought the amox made me better so it gave me the motivation to move. Yes you will crash when you begin to move, you will come back from the crash better day after day, just don't faint in the streets.
Stay off this sub, its like a bucket of crabs, you guys will drag each other down

2024.05.02 00:57 Kittykayyyyt Can my cat have my antibiotic?

Okay so my cat got in a fight as he has before and has formed an abscess where the other cat bit or scratched him. He goes in our backyard and used to escape and not come back for hours but we've recently started keeping him in better. But he escaped for the first time in maybe a year, of course got into a fight the one time he gets out. He's been seen for the abscesses before and they have always given an antibiotic shot and he's been good. We drained one but that was traumatic for everyone involved so we always opted for just the shot and it cured up quick. He had one I treated at home with a medication that was meant for an eye infection in humans and it worked really well, I googled to make sure pets could have it and he had no bad side effects, just healed up. That medication is all used up. I do have a prescription for Sandoz - amoxi-clav 500&125 mg it says on the bottle, for humans.
I usually have no issue with the vet but recently I've had to go on leave and I honestly don't have the extra money to spend for the $400 trip it usually is. Is there anyway I can grind this pill down and weigh it on a small kitchen scale, or cut it into 8ths or anything and give him some for a few days to clear his abscess? I know some people would say no for sure but I did google and apparently this is commonly prescribed to cats, I obviously don't want to just do it without a vet telling me it's ok. Our vet is closed until tomorrow afternoon and I really don't want to wait to ask. I'm also afraid the vet will say no just because they legally can't say yes even if this is a good idea. Like I said I've done similar before but it was TOPICALLY. I'm hoping to just give him part of this pill somehow at a dosage for him.
He's a 20lb cat for reference. Please let me know if anyone has any advice on this without just telling me to go to the vet or saying I'm a bad owner for not having funds for the vet at the time. He used to be a really bad cat so I'm also still paying off the debt from his old vet bills, I'm talking every two weeks we had to get him in for a few hundred dollars at one point before we just kept him inside.
Sorry for the lengthy post lol I'm just a little nervous about what to do!
Thanks in advance

2024.04.27 20:37 Ok-Duck9106 Adult, 50’s getting odd infections

I am female, 50’s, overweight. Vaccinated. I got influenza A in December 24 and it took till end of February feel better. I was vaccinated, can’t imagine how bad it would have been if I was not.
Last Thursday I started feeling unwell after traveling, and went to urgent care on Sunday. At that Sunday Urgent Care appointment, I was diagnosed with HFMD, as I had blisters in my throat, cough, fever, body aches and it seemed to fit the bill, but they took a throat culture just in case. They just thought it odd to see such a severe infection in an adult. I was sent home with cough meds and told to take Tylenol for the pain, which has had little to no impact on the pain or swelling in my throat. Rapid step test was negative, no Covid, no flu.
Tuesday, I could not take the pain and went to the ER in the night, the throat pain was insane, cough, body aches, extreme headache, congestion, and ear pain and could not hear out my left hear. The HFMD apparently had spread to my sinuses, ear, etc, and now I have a raging ear infection. They gave me the magic mouthwash, cough meds, told me to continue with the Tylenol and drink water, and amoxicillin, and told me to ride it out. Mind you, every day was getting worse.
Thursday the culture came back for Haemophilus influenzae B, and Urgent Care from Sunday called to put me on antibiotics, when I told them of the headache, pain and fever, they suggested I go to the ER for a spinal tap to be checked for Meningitis. I went, the ER, they didn’t think a spinal tap was needed, and put me on a different antibiotic Amox-Clav 875-125 mg tablets once a day. So was it HFMD and this Haemophilus Influenzae B, or just the latter? I did not get a clear answer.
I feel terrible, but the swelling in my throat has improved and the lidocaine wash they gave me is helpful, as is alternating between advil and Tylenol, decongestant and my head is much less painful, ear is less painful and throat pain is a bit more tolerable. So I am hopeful that the new antibiotics are working.
I am concerned that I am getting these severe illnesses and trying to figure out what questions I need to ask my primary to determine why this is happening. My blood panel that was done on Tuesday had a few items that were high, but nothing that indicated to the doctor that there was something glaringly autoimmune going on.
Could there be something lowering my immune system making me more vulnerable to these infections? what tests should I ask for from my Primary to determine root cause? Can I get a test to identify what boosters I need?
I do have psoriasis and asthma. Autoimmune issues run in my family(rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus), as do thyroid issues, (sister had thyroid cancer, several cousins on thyroid meds for various thyroid issues). Not sure if that is relevant. I am not a diabetic, but I am overweight.
I just need to not get this sick again. I am starting to fear what will I get next, and want to head it off at the pass.

2024.04.08 19:32 Fraghead_V Confused and looking for answers

Hi everyone,
I suffered from these 2 tender swollen lumps in my right armpit the lumps felt deep, without any head and I took them as swollen lymph nodes. So I went to a GP and asked him about these lumps and I was told that this is an infection or hair follicles due to sweating and friction. I was prescribed a course of antibiotics ciplox 500 twice daily for 5 days. After that the lumps disappeared for 6-7 days and then i got them in my other armpit (left) similar lumps like before so I underwent another antibiotics course and the lumps went away again for few days and came then came back in my right armpit.
I used to wear tight underwear and belt would continuously rub against my pubic area and I then got one single lump in my pubic area (this lump was tender, hard but wide while others felt like a tube this felt like a small marbel or pea) i applied topical clindamycin fore 3-4 days and lump went away. Now coming back to armpit lumps after frustrated from taking antibiotics I visited a reputed dermatologist in my town who have 30 years of experience in medical practice. On looking at my lumps he told me that I am suffering from furunculiosis and prescribed me oral antibiotics, flusidic acid cream and muprocin cream. I was reluctant and frustrated from another antibiotic prescription so i contacted one of my cousin who is a dermatologist and have 15 years of experience. I described him my symptoms and medical history and he prescribed me doxy 100 mg twice daily until 10days after last lump clears up and along with doxy he prescribed me a topical antibiotics. I asked him about the diagnosis and he said he suspect HS to be the culprit here.
So i started taking doxy 100mg twice daily on 19th feb 2024 and started applying muprocin cream and flusidic acid cream as topic antibiotics. Along with this I started taking probiotics that doesn't contain lactobacilous strains. I removed dairy, added sugars and yeast from my diet completely. My left underarm went lump free for 20 days while lump count in my right armpit came down to 2-4 small pea sized. Then I had a flare up of 2-3 lumps in my left armpit. Whenever my course was about to end I would get a new lump and then had to extend my doxy course.
Now I started doubting the diagnosis because one dermat said its recurrent furunculosis and other one said that it can be HS. But I was frustrated after taking so much antibiotics and I decided to get 3rd opinion from a new dermatologist. She looked at my lumps and felt them by pressing them and using some magnifying glass. She then told me that it recurrent furunclulosis and that it happens because of antibiotics resistant bacteria and trauma to hair follicles due to friction. She prescribed me AmoxyClav 625 three times a day for 7 days, flusidic acid cream for topical and some anti-inflammatory/painkiller for 5 days. And asked to follow up after 7 days. Now it's 9th day I have extend my amoxyclav course from 7 days to 9 days. And today I followed up with my dermatologist the total count of lumps were 0 in groin, 0 in left armpit and just 1 single small lump that appeared today in my right armpit.
She updated my diagnosis and replaced amoxyclav with levofloxacin 500 twice daily for 15 days. As in diagnosis she added differential diagnosis of HS stage 1 if my condition continues for more than 6 months.
I am so frustrated and despirate to get answers for my health. I have been through a lot in past 1 year and my health anxiety is already off the roof. I feel so low and confused that I feel like giving up on life would be better than consuming antibiotics like candies without any clue.
I asked my current dermatologist that is it possible for recurrent furunculosis to show up in both armpits at the same time and in form of multiple lesions? To which she replied "yes it's possible and that I shouldn't panic as my lumps don't present as HS at the moment and if we still want to give that possibility a stretch then we can consider them as pre HS but that too if they keep coming back for a duration of more than 6 months.
A little medical history if this can somehow help: I surrered from pilonidal sinus 1.4 years back for which I finally got diagnosed and treated 1 year back in April 2023 end. During this time before treatment i used to feel feverish on waking up in morning and occasionally I used to get swollen lump at most 2 in single armpit. (Might be because of the sinus infection I was going through). I never found them continuous and persistent. So I ignored them as swollen lymph nodes because of my infection. Once I was treated for pilonidal sinus I stopped seeing those lumps or maybe they got more and more less frequent or rare. Until Jan 2024.
Can anyone help me with this? Please I have tried everything. I don't have any drainage from any of the lump. I do feel a needle poke or burn occasionally when I am sweating a lot or if there a new lump forming (this feels more like a burning pain for 1-3 seconds)
EDIT: added pics of my lumps from different days in the comments

2024.03.15 12:32 Constant_Emu3592 What is standard procedure for medicine side effects?

I'm a 30F (5'3, 130 lbs, no drug or alcohol use history) and I suffered side effects from medications... both prescribed and over-the-counter medications. I went to the doctors multiple times, and I am left pretty baffled and confused about what I should expect. I don't know how to bring up issues with medications without seeming like I'm crazy.
For example, if someone is on prednisone, as an example, and is experiencing a fast heart rate and jitters, insomnia, dizziness, and muscle weakness, what would you recommend doing? Would you be able to connect these symptoms to the prednisone medication? How would you differentiate between mental illness (like anxiety or panic attack) and the prednisone side effects?
What if someone comes in with a bunch of medications and hallucinations, jitters, fast heart rate, insomnia, pain, eye dilated... how would you know the hallucinations is mental illness verses the medications? What if a family member comes in and says all of this is bizarre and not near normal for them, would that make a difference in your diagnosis? And if the patient experiencing hallucinations from medications, would you keep them in the hospital or send them to a psych ward or send them home and tell them to stop the medication or give them more medication to calm their side effects and tell them to continue the medication?
I'm just not sure if I had weird experiences with my medication and doctors or it was just standard care and procedure or if the "standard procedure" caused more harm than good to me. As none of the doctor's seemed concerned about the side effects of the medications that I was taking. We did talk to a pharmacist who told us that he was extremely concerned and said to only take Amoxi. I realize now everything I experienced was actual side effects, like the pharmacist said.
For my own very well being, I really need this clarification.
There was an actual reason and diagnosis for the medication. How accurate was it? Well, it's at least in the realms of accurate. Exact? No. (Long fricken story as to how everything happened and why.) It started with a stuffed up head and nose and then gasping for air after eating a weird spice. And it windfalled into a severe infection where the ENT couldn't even put up an endoscope into my nose. He said I had a giant cyst in one of my nostrils. He prescribed me 500 MG of Amoxi Clav 875 x3 per day for 15 days. He had me do a CT scan.
Every doctor knew what I was taking, here's a general list:
Prednisone
Steroid Inhaler
Steroid nasal sprays
Amoxi
Nyquil Severe (too much... 3-4 days a day)
Advil
Mucinex
Anxiety medication (not before becoming sick)
Sudafed
And more, I just don't remember at this time.
This question popped into my head because I'm scared.
The other night I had a terrible headache. In the afternoon, my boyfriend gave me excerdin. My headache ended up going away. But then I experienced dizziness and nauseousness, lack of appetite, sick to my stomach, and fast heart rate.
Now that I know that I'm sensitive to medications, at least I can look out for side effects
But I'm scared of my experiences with doctors. I'm scared of side effects from medications. With both fears, I'm overwhelmed. I don't understand what is standard procedure. And I don't understand how to get help for side effects of medication, and how to prevent doctors from just saying I'm crazy....????

I (34M) located in Canada have had an ear infection for going on 3 weeks at this point. I tested positive for Strep A and the doctors think that the strep infection made it's way into the middle ear and has caused the issue. I currently take Pristiq, Vyvanse for Anxiety and Pantoprazole for acid reflux. After 2.5 weeks of antibiotics should be ear still look like this? 2024.01.14 04:33 miniaturesnail Dog hasn’t pooped in two days

Dog Info: Weight: 44 lbs Breed: Pitbull mix Age: 2 yo Sex: Female Intact: No On Thursday, my dog got attacked by an animal. Took her to the emergency vet, they took care of her, all good. She has a limp on one of her legs and a bunch of lacerations. They put her on Amoxi/Clav 375 mg (Clavamox) 2x a day, Carprofen 75 mg (Rimadyl) 0.5 pills 2x a day, Gabapentin 100 mg 2 pills 2x a day & SSD ointment 2x a day. She has not pooped since Thursday before the attack. Is the meds affecting her pooping ability? Can I do anything to help her poo? Should I take her to a vet? She will be going to the vet in a week for them to check her wounds, possibly get an x-ray on the leg & for a rabies booster. Update: She pooped!! It was solid dark brown poop!

2023.12.24 02:07 PM_ME_GREEN_THINGS Is this overkill?

I've been having sinus issues since September (lack of smell and taste that's constantly on and off, congestion, head and ears felt stuffy/clogged) that led up to me getting headaches and then finally realizing that I had a 102 fever in October. I did a virtual doctor visit and was prescribed amox-clav for a week; it helped with the headaches and fever but everything else was the same. I broke down on Thanksgiving because I couldn't taste any food and finally made an ENT appointment. Since then, I've actually been much better; my sense of smell and taste is only gone in the mornings and is fine 90% of the day now. I still feel like there's pressure in my ears, but I'm not as congested as I was, either. I went to my ENT appointment the other day anyways, and the doc checked out my nose with a camera; she said there was some inflammation and discharge. Even though I've been feeling better, she still seemed concerned that this had been going on for a few months and prescribed me a bunch of stuff which I'm a little hesitant about, so I wanted some advice. Other than a daily neti pot rinse and azelastine nasal spray 0.1% (which I think could help with my general seasonal allergies so I'm not worried about that), I was also prescribed more amox-clav (875-125mg) to be taken twice a day for 3 weeks, and prednisone 10 MG for 10 days that will be tapered down each day. I feel like this might be a lot for what I'm experiencing considering that I'm better than how I was last month but I'm not sure. Other than the amox-clav being the size of horse pills and fear of antibiotic resistance, it's the prednisone that I'm the most iffy about. I've taken it before a few times when my asthma has gotten really bad and it always made me feel weird - I'd get anxious, random body aches, and just feel off. I'm wondering if these might be overkill?

2023.12.21 22:59 SaltNecessary7208 Been Suffering. Need advice 🙏

A few months ago noticed that my teeth were hurting upper left the 2 behind k9 giving me migraine headaches so I went to the endo and he told me we would do the one that hurt and then if that didn’t fix it we would do the one next to it too. Got one done and left. Then in a separate incident my back molar crown fell off and while I was getting it recemented the nerve was exposed, it was just bad luck. (I’m not the type who blames people and realize that it can happen to even the best dentists, I used to work as a dental assistant in high school so I have some understanding.) I went back and got the root canal on the back molar. About a month later I was having very bad headaches, chills, feeling hot in my head, clammy sweats and was ignoring it for a very long time thinking my body could fight whatever it was. I didn’t even know it was my teeth until finally it got to the point where both my ears were infected, and was ringing very loudly nonstop. I was lightheaded, irritable, couldn’t think clearly at all, even my speech was a little slurred so I went to urgent care and was prescribed 500 mg Amox 2x a day. Amox seemed to make it better but then on the 4th or 5th day chills and same feeling of malaise was coming back. Called my GP and he upped my dose to 875 amox 250 clav for 10 days. My teeth started to hurt very much upper left area and I felt like the back molar root canal was starting to go bad too so I went back to the endo he gave me another root canal in the upper left tooth behind the k9 next to the one he did. Afterward I told him I thought there was also something wrong with the back molar root canal he did ( it had a very curved root) he insisted it was the bite and adjusted them too low. (instinctively I knew there was something wrong bec I couldn’t bite down and could smell the infection seeping from the tooth into my throat) I insisted something was wrong and and told him I even felt septic. I had to repeat that there was an infection and he told me to wait until after the antibiotics were done 7 more days of suffering. I went back yesterday, he cleaned it out and redid the root canal but I don’t think it’s fixed bec I believe only 1 canal was cleaned out and my root is now spasming and I still have lots of pain when biting down and the headaches and weakness is coming back. The ears a ringing a bit again too, but not as loudly.
He also didn’t seem too confident about the problem being fixed. He does seem very busy and does the root canal in 1 hour slot times. I think I should go with another endodontist at this point but I just wanted to get some other opinions. Here are some of the X-rays of the lower molar root canal redo. I asked the office for all of them but these are the ones they sent. Thank you so much in advance for any help. The first pic is post and 2nd pic is pre operative.

2023.12.18 15:58 I-Cant-hear Ear Infection in Left Ear, Sudden Hearing Loss in Right Ear

Demos: 33F, 5'6", 140 lbs, white/not hispanic or latino
I have had ear canal issues since childhood ("tiny ear canals" and impacted ear wax), and used to get my ears irrigated regularly. Not so much anymore. For background: I have had mild hearing loss in my left ear for almost a year now ("fullness" sensation; all visits to MD have not produced any results except "I can see everything I'm supposed to" in my ear canal). For the last 5-6 months, I have had clear fluid buildup in both ears that I have to regularly absorb with a Q-tip. If I don't remove it, it fills up inside my ear and causes hearing loss. Last MD visit this was brought up, and the MD thought it was allergies and recommended either nasal decongestant or allergy meds. I've been taking phenylephrine hydrochloride 1% nasal spray off and on for weeks since then. It has not really helped with the fluid buildup. It happens most in the mornings and evenings. It is very annoying but not painful.
Anyway... I've never really had ear infections that I can remember. I certainly have one now in my left ear (diagnosed Saturday) and have been on oral amox-clav 875-125 mg and ofloxacin otic solution .3%, have been on both since Saturday night. Have been taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen for pain.
All day yesterday my right ear was draining that same clear fluid excessively, continuously, all day long, way more than usual, to where I had to use a little piece of paper towel to stick in my ear to try and wick the liquid. Otherwise it would sit in my ear and I'd be unable to hear. My husband and I both think that the fluid buildup is worse than usual because my left ear is currently blocked from infection.
This morning I woke up at 3 in the morning almost completely deaf (left ear blocked with ear infection, right ear blocked by I-don't-know, but very full and I can't hear out of it). My right ear doesn't hurt other than skin irritation from putting paper towel in there the day before. I have not tried any earwax removal on my right ear because I've been afraid to. I don't know what the clear liquid is - how likely is it that it's an eardrum tear? Called my MD and called an ENT specialist, no one can get me in today.
Is this an emergency? should I go to the ER? Should I try using debrox / ear cleaning solutions (is it safe for me to do so)?

2023.12.18 05:27 Willing_Category_905 I (23F 124 lbs) have been to 5 different doctors within the past 8 days, nothing is working. Help me.

My current symptoms are, loss of appetite, extremely painful lesions in mouth, (because of this, it is extremely difficult to eat, have only eaten bread and drank water within the past 3-4 days), on and off lower abdominal pain, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes. Whenever I eat anything besides bread or water, my mouth is filled with an extremely painful burning sensation that is more painful on my mouth lesions but also burns almost everywhere in my mouth. This burning sensation also occurs more-so when I am laying down. For some reason laying down causes the inside of my mouth to become extremely painful with an almost like pins and needles burning sensation. I have very swollen painful gums and am producing a lot of excess saliva.
I have been to the Urgent Care, the Emergency Room, the Gynecologist and an Oral Surgeon. The Urgent Care, 8 days ago, diagnosed me with Angular Cheilitis and sent me home with a Amoxicillin-Clav 875-125mg to take twice a day for 10 days. My symptoms at this time (8 days ago) included the symptoms I currently have, but were also accompanied by, constant chills and sweats (yet no actual fever), migraines, swollen face, nausea, extremely sore throat, and really bad ear ache.
Next, I went to the Oral surgeon, because I have a tooth that needs to be removed. This tooth I believe is or could be infected. It is the second to last molar on the left side, that had a former root canal. I never received a crown, so it ended up cracking and half of the tooth with the root canal fell out. I did not get this treated for months on end, so it appears to be ‘rotted’ by now (due to no dental insurance at the time). The Oral Surgeon said I had to get the tooth removed, but the lesions in the back of my mouth were due to pericoronitis, because another symptom I have is a swollen gym tissue behind wisdom teeth on the left side. He prescribed me with an oral rinse to use twice a day, Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.12%.
After this, my mouth lesions spread like wildfire and my mouth became unbearably painful. The medications prescribed were not helping, and I became more and more sick feeling overall. At this time, right next to my ‘diagnosed angular cheilitis’, a small, ring-like lesion started to develop on my lip as well. This is when I became skeptical about this being an STD of some sort, So I went to the Gynecologist. I was STD tested, as I recently did have Chlamydia but was treated and was also not sure if i still have it. Because I was on my period, they could only take my blood for the STD testing. They said that the blood test came up negative for those specific STD’s, but, it’s possible I could still have HSV because they did not do an IGM test. I went online also to see my blood results, and I came up reactive for Hepatitis A ab I believe, yet they did not say anything to me about this over the phone.
My symptoms became more and more severe with excruciating mouth pain and I returned to the Oral Surgeon, who took a look in my mouth and said that I have Herpetic Gingivostomatitis, and it should clear up soon and I was sent home. I was in so much pain and needed HSV medication for my diagnoses, which lead me to the ER, as I was not able to eat from the painful lesions in my mouth. The doctors at the ER even seemed confused as to what was going on with me and my long list of symptoms. But they ended up prescribing me with more Amoxicillin 500 mg to take 3 times a day for 7 days, and also Valacyclovir 1g twice a day for 7 days. Main symptoms I still have is mouth burning/pins and needles and absolute loss of appetite.
The medications are not really working and my ‘angular cheilitis’ is also oozing like crazy and it’s all very painful, and almost impossible to sleep. Is this also a fungal infection? Yeast infection too? Meningitis? Blood infection from tooth? Help me.

2023.12.18 05:18 Willing_Category_905 Extreme pain with huge list of symptoms. I have been to 5 doctors. Please Help me.

I (23F) have been to 5 different doctors within the past 8 days, I weigh 128lbs.
I have very swollen gums and am producing a lot of excess saliva.

2023.12.04 16:38 Muurica Sudden SEVERE achillies pain in both heels, need help!

I am a Sous chef, female, 5’2”, about 140 lbs, and turned 32 exactly two weeks ago. I currently take adderall 30mg tablets, and have been taking the recommended dose of Imodium for the last few days.
The diarrhea is a separate issue, I’m assuming, but just in case here is some quick info about that: I had an injury on my right index finger that became very infected. An ER doctor put me on a 1 week regimen on “AMOX/K CLAV 875-125 TAB NORT”, to take 2x a day beginning on 10/11. This did not clear the infection, so an urgent care doctor prescribed me both “CLINDAMYCIN 300 MG CAP AURO”, to take 3x a day, and “SMZ-TMP 400-80 MG TAB AURO” to take 2x a day, starting in 11/01. -my assumption is that my prolonged diarrhea is due to those antibiotic rounds. However, I am not a doctor, so for all I know, these two things could be related?
Anyway, back to my current pressing issue: Tonight, nearing the end of closing, (5+ hours ago) suddenly BOTH my Achilles began hurting and the pain has only been getting worse. Before leaving the restaurant (1-2hours after the pain began), i couldn't really walk without whatever I could make into an on-the-fly Cain or walker. When I got home, both my ankles started swelling, and fast forward to this current minute, my boyfriend just had to carry me to my bathroom. Walking and/or standing is now pretty much intolerable. This pain came out of nowhere, with no slight discomfort beforehand or clue anything was wrong.
My boyfriend is taking me to the er in the morning, and I will most likely be calling out of work. However, this is very scary and alarming to me because this has never happened before and I had zero symptoms before suddenly becoming basically immobile.

2023.11.20 16:26 anikatsktsk Excessive Bloating/Gas

Hello!
I've been suffering for this since one and a half years and I'm just sick and tired so I need help.
So, I have excessive gas and bloating, no matter what I eat. I've tried cutting down different foods to see if something was causing it but it seems like literally anything I eat cause gas. And I know it's not normal because my gut was healthy before. I have to pass gas every 15-30 mins after 1-2 hours of eating any food. If I try to hold it in, it makes me very uncomfortable and bloated and I feel like my belly is going to burst.
I know it sounds funny in theory, but it has been extremely exhausting living like this. I can't go out to dinners, I can't go to friends' places and I can't do lectures that's more than 1 hour.
I went to a general doc for this (Ontario, CA) and they first gave me either esomeprazole or rabeprazole. When it wasn't working, I was referred for an endoscopy and they found nothing. So it was just concluded i have IBS.
I did some research and I have a feeling that it might be SIBO. It was confirmed even more when 3 months ago, I started high strength antibiotic(Apo-Amoxi Clav 875mg/125mg) for an ear piercing infection for 7 days. The gas almost completely went went away (passing gas only once in the morning). But then, it started coming back and after 2 months (now), it's like it used to be.
This could be a placebo. I just want to get a SIBO test for my peace of mind and somebody treat me properly for whatever I have. Apparently, SIBO breath tests can be done online and my doc said I could try that but it costs $200 and even then, what will I do with it if a professional will not treat me for it?

2023.11.07 20:36 Prestigious-Data-206 [30][F] Inflamed Tonsils The Comes and Goes With No Other Symptoms

Height: 5’3
Weight: 125lbs
Current Medications: Vyvance 60mg (for 2 ½ years), Yasmin 28 (for 16 years), Herbaland Multivitamin (for 5 years), Vitamin D3 (for 5 years), ferrous gluconate 324mg (for 1 year)
Hello, thank you for your time. I need help understanding what’s going on with my tonsils.
I developed a “lump in throat feeling” October 3rd, 2023. I promptly went to the walk-in clinic doctor where they diagnosed me with strep throat without a test. I also assumed it was strep because I’ve had strep throat every year since I was a kid (but haven't gotten it in 3 years because of masking/isolation I assume). My symptoms are always swollen tonsils, but no other symptoms. I have no fever, pain when I swallow, nothing else. I would always get a rapid test before getting antibiotics in the past, and with the lump in throat symptom, the rapid test was always positive. This was consistent with what I knew, so I accepted not taking a test.
I took Amoxicillin liquid. I can’t remember the exact mg. 3 times a day for 7 days. Finished the bottle. The lump in the throat feeling was gone mid way through antibiotics. The lump in my throat feeling came back 3 days later. I went to my GP on October 13th and she told me it was viral and to wait it out (I told her my symptoms went away after taking amoxicillin). I asked to take a swab of my throat. 2 days later the swab came back negative for strep throat.
My tonsils were becoming more and more inflamed that it was starting to become difficult to eat. This isn't consistent with my previous strep symptoms. Usually one does of antibiotics does the trick. I used an online doctor service called Maple to speak to a doctor about my symptoms. He prescribed me dexamethasone for one day on October 21st. It didn’t reduce the swelling.
By October 23rd my tonsils were so inflamed that I had a hard time eating, but not drinking or breathing. I went back to the same walk-in clinic doctor I did on October 3rd and they did a rapid test. Came back negative for strep throat. He then told me it was viral, but after I said my symptoms went away after taking amoxicillin, he prescribed me amoxi clav in a pill. I can’t remember the exact mg. 3 times a day for 7 days.
My throat was becoming less inflamed to the point I could eat normally again by October 30th, but I had an appointment with my GP for something unrelated on the same day.
At that appointment, I showed her what I was taking and I requested if I could have a 10 day dose (extend the 7 day dose by 3 days) because I was concerned my symptoms would come back. She looked at my tonsils and saw they were still inflamed, but said she saw improvement. She said no to extending the antibiotics and told me it was viral again. I explained again that my symptoms go away (that lump in the throat and difficulty eating) when I take amoxicillin and that I’ve been experiencing these symptoms on and off for 4 weeks. I asked for a referral to an EMT but was told there wasn’t a point because I’d be better by then.
I finished amoxi clav also on October 30th because I didn’t get the extension. The lump in my throat feeling was gone and I could eat normally up until November 6th. Today it’s November 7th and my tonsils are more inflamed than they were yesterday, but I can still eat.
I’m not sure what’s going on, but after 5 weeks of having this issue I’m pretty sure it isn’t viral. Again, I have one symptom: lump in throat feeling and swollen tonsils that progressively get more swollen. The swelling goes down when I take an antibiotic but get worse again once I’m off them. I have no pain or fever. There's no puss I can see, my tonsils are just red and large (reach about 1/4 of my tongue on each side). My right side is more inflamed than the left. I also tested negative for COVID twice by myself and the walk-in doctor.
Some info about my general health:
Vegan. Had a recent blood test for both general and vitamins and minerals (both in September). Only thing that isn’t in the normal range is ferritin and my left kidney function. Left kidney function is accounted for because I had a severed ureter that cut off flow to my kidney. Kidney was saved with a surgery 7 years ago, but not working at optimal level.
Celiac disease. Haven’t eaten gluten in 4+ years.
No drinking or smoking.
I have 3 COVID shots. I stopped masking in April 2023 and as far as I know I’ve never had COVID. I moved from a house to an apartment in April 2023.
Thank you.

2023.10.20 05:10 little_lady_elle Husband (34m) 103.7 temp spike tooth infection

Reposted because I think temp spike needs to be in heading. Husband (34m) had crack in tooth earlier this year. Went to dentist, had temporarily filling in and was told he needed to get root canal or extraction soon. Husband put this off and just yesterday started with jaw pain. He called dentist and can’t get in until Saturday. Began with low grade temp earlier today of 100.7, so I urged him to at least do virtual visit for antibiotics so he could start them ahead of waiting until Saturday visit.
Prescribed amox/clav 875-125 po bid x7 days. First dose at 4pm. Tonight started with 103.7 fever spike - that was 8 hours after last dose of ibuprofen. He took 600 mg ibuprofen and temp down to 100.8 now. Visible swelling to jawline below infected tooth. Pulse ranging between 95-106 bpm upon multiple takes. Respirations 20. He is in pain and feels crappy but reports does not feel dire need to seek medical attention.
I am concerned for septicemia, and urging him to go to ER. He is stating that since he already started antibiotics, there’s nothing they can do for him and he is not concerned about going septic since he doesn’t feel like death.
Looking for advice as this is not my wheelhouse. Would going to ER lead to lab tests that might show IV antibiotics are needed to prevent possible sepsis? Or is he correct and we should wait until he has another day of abx doses in him to reevaluate?
Thanks for anyone who can jump in with any direction. My husband is stubborn and I’m not sure if I should be pushing on this.
