2024.04.29 11:36 Slowleytakenusername Is there any hope for AMD GPU's in iRacing with triple monitors setups?

So I did some searching and everything is basically saying, "go Nvidia" when it comes triple monitors and from the looks of it, it has been like that for a while. Is there any hope for people that are "stuck" with an AMD GPU? Some of us built/bought our PC's before finding out that we like iRacing a lot.
My GPU history might give people the idea that I'm an AMD fanboy (from 5700 XT to 6800 tot 7900 XTX) but in every situation I looked at it in terms of cost/fps and for the games I played, it was always the AMD card in the same price range that came out on top.
I mostly played ACC, ACC, RF2 (mostly hot lapping) and some single player games like Cyberpunk. In december I upgraded my rig to a triple monitor setup. Not because I believed it would make me faster (it doesnt) but because it would ad to the feeling of being in a race car. Part of that feeling has to do with the game looking pretty at a high refresh rate without stutters.
The RX 6800 + 5800X3D combo was great with the 34' monitor but I knew I needed more power for triples. Maybe my mistake was not thinking about maybe one day playing iRacing but at the time I really believed I would never pay for a subscription service when LFM gave me all the racing I need. So I checked some benchmark video's for cards in the € 1000 range and figured the 7900XTX was the best bang for my € at the time. And it was because I was doing a 120 locked FPS in ACC no problem with a combination of epic and high settings with the least inpacting FSR settings. At most a small 3 FPS dip at the start.
Fast forward to march and I'm beginning to get fed up with ACC and want to try something new. Some helpfull people at simracing tell me to join the Matt Malone discord to get a free 3 month iRacing subscribtion to try it out. Within 2 weeks of trying out I make a new account and buy a 2 year subscribtion and have already bought 18 cars and tracks..
I like iRacing very much but the thing that bothers me is the performance on my XTX. I have no problem with tweaking settings to get the best performance but the amount of stuff I have to turn off or set to low on what should be AMD's top of the line really makes me sad and I'm still not at the point where I can hit a constant 120FPS at 1440p.
I'm tempted to sell my XTX at a loss and just buy an 4080 super.. Or is there something being worked on to increase performance? Or maybe any of you know about a magic setting that will boost fps at a minimal visual loss?

2024.04.29 11:31 equals_0x2A [GUIDE] GamePass Save File Transfer (to Switch/Steam/GOG and vice versa)

I tried to search this, but I didn't see a guide. I'm sharing how I did it. My primary user case here is transfering my save between the GamePass version and my Switch. But it should work with Steam as well.
Unlike the Steam version where the save file can easily be accessed in the directory (correct me if I am wrong as I don't have it on Steam): C:\Users\\AppData\LocalLow\505 Games S_p_A\EiyudenChronicle.
The GamePass version's save files are encrypted. So, we need a tool to extract it.
Disclaimer: If you miss a step or accidentally click the import (double up) button when you intend to export (double down button), you may accidentally overwrite your save file in the GamePass version. I am not responsible if you accidentally do so. If you follow the steps and do proper research about the tools linked, this is not really that difficult. I recommend you read the GPSaveConverted wiki in the GitHub page as well as the JKSV guide in the JKSV GitHub page in case you want to manage save files on your Switch.
Extracting GamePass Save File for Steam/GOG Transfer
Requirements:
Steps:
  1. Open GPSaveConverter and wait for it to load the available Windows games.
  2. Click on the Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. After this you will see the list of game related files in the top right window. Ignore this for now.
    1. If this is the first time you are using this, it will prompt that you don't have a specified directory for non-Xbox profile or something.
    2. Just create a new folder for now and choose that.
    3. For the purposes of this guide let's say you created C:\Users\\Documents\Xbox Saves\Hundred Heroes.
  3. If you missed step 2.1 then you can specify the non-Xbox location again by clicking the Select non-Xbox Location button somewhere in the bottom left window.
  4. Now that the directory has been specified you can now import the save files from the GamePass version by clicking the arrow buttons between the top right and bottom right window.
    1. Single arrow up will import the highlighted save related files into GamePass
    2. Double arrow up will import all the save related files into GamePass
    3. Single arrow down will export the highlighted save related files from GamePass
    4. Double arrow down will export all the save related files from GamePass
At this point you can now move the save related files into Steam version save file directory or even GOG version save file directory.
Moving the save file to Nintendo Switch:
There are additional steps needed for the Nintendo Switch if you want to move your save file from GamePass to Switch and vice versa.
Extracting GamePass Save File for Switch Transfer
Requirements:
  • Switch (capable of running homebrew)
  • JKSV (save manager homebrew on the Switch)
Steps:
  1. Follow Steps 1 to 3 of the guide above.
  2. Before exporting the save, we have to do additional processing to the save file to match the save file naming on the Switch. In the GPSaveConverter this is called File Translations. What it does is basically adding processing to the files before exporting/importing them. Like renaming the files as needed.
  3. Open View > Check Show File Translations (if not already checked). This will expose the File Translations window just below the game selection window.
  4. Click the [+] button below the File Translations window so we can add our translation. A preset translation will be added in the File Translations window. Click that and then we'll modify the values under it.
    1. Non-Xbox file name: User${DataNumber}
    2. Xbox Blob ID: Data${DataNumber}
    3. Container Name 1: UserData
    4. Container name 2: UserData
    5. Named Regex Group
      1. Click this then you'll see the three dot button at the right end of this cell. Click it.
      2. A window will appear with a text area. Just input: (?[0-9]+)
      3. Click okay and that's it. On to the next one.
  5. Click the [+] button again. A new preset will appear on the File Translations window. Click that and we'll modify the parameters.
    1. Non-Xbox file name: Info
    2. Xbox Blob ID: info
    3. Container Name 1: UserData
    4. Container name 2: UserData
    5. We will skip the regex this time.
  6. Click the [+] button again. A new preset will appear on the File Translations window. Click that and we'll modify the parameters.
    1. Non-Xbox file name: SystemData
    2. Xbox Blob ID: SystemData
    3. Container Name 1: UserData
    4. Container name 2: UserData
    5. We will skip the regex this time.
  7. We are now done with the File Translations part and can now export/import the save file.
    1. Single arrow up will import the highlighted save related files into GamePass
    2. Double arrow up will import all the save related files into GamePass
    3. Single arrow down will export the highlighted save related files from GamePass
    4. Double arrow down will export all the save related files from GamePass
Transfering Save File From PC to Switch
There are several ways to do this. If you have a hacked Switch I will assume that you already know how to transfer files from your PC to the Switch. I will not cover this part.
Importing/Exporting Save Files from Switch
I personally use JKSV to manage my save files. I will provide the basic steps to import the save you got from your PC to the Switch game.
As mentioned above your Switch need to be capable of homebrew for you to be able to do this.
Steps:
  1. When you transfer your save files from the PC to the Switch make sure you put the save files on a folder in your SD Card root directory under: /JKSV/Hundred Heroes//
  2. Run JKSV
  3. Go to your profile > Hundred Heroes > Press A
  4. You will see the list of backups there
  5. Highlighted the folder name of the backup we just transfered from the PC
  6. Press Y. And proceed.
Leave JKSV and run the game on the Switch. You will be able to continue playing your save file from there.
When you are done and you want to move the save file from your Switch to the PC.
Steps:
  1. Run JKSV
  2. Choose your profile > Hundred Heroes > Press A
  3. Choose New Backup > Press A
Now transfer those files to your PC in your preferred method.
Steps:
  1. Make sure you put the files to the non-Xbox folder you created for Hundred Heroes. Overwrite the files if there are still files there.
  2. Run GPSaveConverter
  3. Choose Hundred Heroes
  4. Click the double up arrow.
That is all. If you need to clarify some steps feel free to ask here. I will try to respond when I am not working.
Enjoy!

2024.04.29 11:24 AngelOfLastResort YA New Vegas Steam Deck Mod Guide

So I successfully installed modded New Vegas on my Steam Deck, mostly following information found in the following guides:
References
Steam Deck modding guide one
Steam Deck modding guide two
FNV performance optimization guide
Don't install DXVK or Reshade - will explain my experience with them later.
Viva New Vegas
My goals
To end up with a modded NV that I could run from Steam Deck mode without needing desktop mode, and without doing the modding on the Steam Deck itself. I don't feel comfortable enough in my Linux to do this on the Deck - I know its possible, I just chose not to. I've modded NV on PC before, so I decided to mod it to PC and then copy it to my Steam Deck.
Why mod the game at all?
At the very least, modding makes the game perform better and be more stable with less crashes. I don't claim it will be crash free, just crash less. Plus less quest bugs and less (or no) bugged perks, like In Shining Amor.
You can optionally choose to make the game look better, which is what I did.
Summary of what I did
  1. Fresh install of FNV on both steam deck and PC. Make sure to start the game at least once on Steam Deck and go as far as loading a saved game or starting a new one, to make sure it works.
  2. Setup Mod Organizer 2 on my PC. Installed mods on PC.
  3. Explored my virtual folder on PC, copied that to a temporary location. Remember your virtual folder is just data by default, so make sure to grab everything. That is, the parent directory of data holds the executables and DLLs - you need all of that too. Make sure that you end up with a copy of the entire game as it would look when it runs (will explain more later).
  4. Make sure to copy your plugins.txt file from MO2. plugins.txt is what stores not only what .esm and .esp files to load, but also in what order to load them. There is one stored in your user profile, in AppData/FalloutNV, and MO2 has its own version of plugins.txt. You want the MO2 one, which is either going to be in your user profile if you chose global profile, or inside the MO2 folder if you chose portable install. You need to do this if you DON'T want to setup MO2 on your steam deck, and since I did not want to setup MO2 on my Steam Deck, I had to copy it.
  5. Get these copied files (modded FNV install and plugins.txt file) over to your steam deck. I used a good old fashioned micro SD card for this purpose. You can also use things like KDE connect - what I didn't like about this is that I could only send over one file at a time, so I'd have to compress the entire FNV, which would kinda defeat the point.
  6. Copy the modded FNV install over to the location where Steam will install your games, which is in /home/.local/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout New Vegas
Make sure to do this intelligently so that the files end up in the right place. For instance, in Linux, folders named data and Data are two different folders. In Windows, they are the same thing. Just check on things like this.
  1. Copy the plugins.txt file over to the location where Steam will put it, which is something like:
/home/.local/Steam/steamapps/compdata/22380/pfx/drive_c/Users/SteamUseAppData/Local/FalloutNV
It is something like that but not entirely sure. The 22380 is the Steam ID for Fallout New Vegas. You need to overwrite this file.
  1. Test it works by starting the game.
My recommendations
Whatever you want to do, start small. Don't install 200 mods on your PC, copy it over to your Steam Deck, and then find it doesn't work. Install a few things, such as NVSE and YUP, test it out, and go from there. You're not only modding the game, you're also teaching yourself the process, which is important. You need to understand what you're doing pretty well before you can attempt a complicated mod setup.
Also don't install any AI upscaled texture packs - they don't work. They just hog memory for not much benefit.
DXVK and Reshade
The first time I did this, I installed DXVK on Windows and Reshade for Vulkan. Worked on windows, did not work on Steam Deck. I think this is because, behind the scenes, Proton does some magic for FNV that converts its draw calls from D3D9 to Vulkan anyway. I think ReShade would probably work but I'm not sure, and at this point I'm kinda over it. I just want to play the game!
NVHR
Works, but make sure to disable the console window it creates on startup by adding a file named d3dx9_38.tmp to the FNV root folder. In other words, installing NVHR involves copying in a file named d3dx9_38.dll - if you also add an empty file named d3dx9_38.tmp, it will prevent this other console window from being created. I have a hunch this caused a problem for me in the past although not entirely sure.
INI files
Don't forget to configure your INI files, particularly for NVTF. You won't get the best out of NVTF if you don't install an INI file. Follow the Viva New Vegas guide to get to this point. I'm using the Texture Pack friendly INI file because I have some texture packs.
MO2 and virtual folders
MO2 works by creating a virtual folder to run FNV from. This virtual folder doesn't exist normally, it only gets created when you run FNV from inside MO2. This means that your FNV folder is mostly untouched. To copy the contents of this virtual folder, select the Explore Virtual Folder option from within MO2. It will take you to the data folder. Remember the data folder is most of, but not all you need to run FNV. You also need the stuff in the level above the data folder.
What mods do you have installed and how does it perform?
I'll paste the list below, but its mostly performance fixes, bug fixes and texture/model packs. I have had one bug so far, where Barton Thorn failed to appear. No idea why. Other than that, everything seems to be okay. I don't know what the framerate is, but it seems pretty stable. I played for 2 hours last night and got down to about 50% battery (on an OLED model). So I think the battery would last for easily 2 hours. Vsync is enabled in the game config.
What is it like to play? Mostly the same as PC, I will say that getting used to the controls will take a bit of time for me. One thing I can't find is the run/walk button, which exists in vanilla on PC. Probably possible to fix it. Oh and I've noticed a strange bug - if you touch the touchscreen in game, the game locks up. No idea if this is vanilla behaviour or modded behaviour, I only noticed it after modding the game. So I can't interact with the pipboy using the touchscreen which sucks a bit but isn't the end of the world.
My modlist.txt file is below - it shows all of my mods but not the install order. Also I have New Vegas Landscape Overhaul Re remastered.

2024.04.29 10:53 QueenofChester I went to your wedding but you couldn't make it to mine?

I (F28) and my husband (M29) got married last year in July. It was a rather 'quick' affair in the sense that we started the planning in January of that year. 6 months later we had tied the knot. For some backstory, my husband is a native-born Australian and I am an American Citizen. We had been dating 5 years before we married and doing the long distance, especially during covid times was rough. We weren't able to see each other for 2 whole years while the whole world was shut down, but we made it through. We realized if we could survive that, we could survive anything as long as we had each other.
We fortunately had a wonderful wedding that went off with only very minor inconveniences, otherwise it was a splendid affair. We had our wedding out in a local park near where I live and then we all reconvened at an Arcade and Axe-Throwing location for our reception! It was the talk of our close friends and family for even a couple weeks after surprisingly, people absolutely loved the unique entertainment instead of a dance party -which neither my husband nor I are really dancing people. :P
I had only one person stand for me just as my husband only had one. To be frank, I might even be the a-hole in this story, but I want to vent a bit about this situation.
I understand that I planned a wedding in 6 months, however I sent out invitations in early April, a solid 3 months before my wedding was to occur. Most of the people that came to the wedding -we had a small list of only about 30ish people- came from close by. My matron of honor had a 13hour drive to us and my husbands best man had only a 2 1/2hour drive.
One person I was most excited to have at my wedding was my friend of 19 years. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding to her ex-husband and even gave a speech. I was so happy to join her for her special day and was excited to have her there for mine.
I will mention she does have a son, my godson in fact, and our wedding was child free simply because of the location for the reception. Axe-throwing and young children is a big no, and she knew that. She even said it was totally fine. I also mentioned that she had a plus-one already calculated in and could bring whomever she wanted, even her boyfriend if she wanted or a friend, totally up to her. I wanted her to know that I supported her new relationship because I had seen what other people were saying about it on facebook and they were not nice.
Despite all of this and her seeming rather excited for it, she sent back the RSVP card with 'no' and wrote on it that she wouldn't be able to make it due to work. I was disappointed to say the least, and a bit miffed because she had 3 months to inform her work that she'd be unavailable for a day. My wedding was on a tuesday, yes, middle of the week, but she had 3 months to say something to them and she only lives an hour away.
Later, after we had talked a bit more she then said it was because she didn't have anywhere that could watch her kid. I'd understand if she only had her ex-inlaws to rely on where she lives, however where I live is where her dad lives and I'm sure he would've LOVED to hang out with his grandson all day, he rarely gets to see him from what I've noticed, though I could be wrong.
So I guess I just wanted to vent about this. This was the 'biggest' drama I had for my wedding and it wasn't even on the day, it was just part of the leadup and honestly a huge bummer to not have my friend there. In all honesty, her and I haven't talked since before the wedding and I don't necessarily want to extend that olive branch. I kind of want her to be the one to stand up and reach out and if she doesn't, then I guess I know where I stand with her.
I guess also, let me know, AITA since I didn't invite her to be a bridesmaid as well? Do you guys think that might have been the reason she didn't want to come to my wedding or had our friendship just kicked the bucket and I wasn't informed?
PS: I LOVE CHARLOTTE DOBRE, she is so funny and her beliefs and mine usually coincide so it's so fun to watch her and be like 'Yeah, that's right, I agree, I concur' and whatnot. She's brilliant!

2024.04.29 10:53 Unlikely_Start6738 A little more about LTR, since it's SUCH an important metric to us here at Lowe's...

So I’ve been reading through a lot of the posts and responses on here. I’m getting the impression that a lot of them are being posted by people in their late teens to early 20’s. I do NOT mean that as an insult. I have worked there for a year now. I have another source of income so I like the extra money, but I could go with out. I have stuck around because young people are hilarious and fun to be around, and you do whatever the hell a 37 year old like me tells you to, even though I’m not your boss. It’s fantastic.
I just notice so much energy and attention being given to things that couldn’t possibly be less important. Like lint in your pocket level shit, meaningless. For instance, I was on a thread talking about the LTR surveys and there were so many posts talking about the frustration of getting a zero and how there’s nothing they could do, we need more staff, it’s too busy, people don’t get that 8 means zero etc.
Dudes… dudettes. Stop for a second.
Why, on Earth, why… would you EVER mention anything about the stupid ass survey, unless you absolutely KICKED ass and saved the day for someone. If they were clearly so impressed by their experience and your service, that they are actively telling you about it. Then feel free to ruin the moment and tell them about that survey.
But remember they probably don't know that this survey thing exists or where to find it, so we gota make sure and VOLUNTARILY SHARE this information with them! A LOT of customers miss it since it comes in an email that looks identical to the emailed receipt they got! Kinda hard to find on the printed receipts too! So you have to give them a little briefing!
(please read that last paragraph again and imagine it's being said by a drunk clown overdoing the voice)
Let's list some facts about the LTR survey
- The online order app doesn’t prompt customers to take a survey…
- There are no signs or anything in the store promoting it….
- Nothing on the curbside signs…
- Nothing on the dooooooors…
- Email it comes in is basically disguised as a duplicate receipt…
- Easy to miss on printed receipts because, well.... who actually looks at them…
- Survey is clearly a landmine that creates a platform for people to vent and complain that they didn’t know was there until you told them about it, now you'll probably get blamed for something you had no more control over than the temperature on Mars…
- Customer may be happy but may just feel the service was an 8, which is totally reasonable given the fact that the service had no impact on their day whatsoever, they just needed some tape… would have probably given a 10 if it had been in a locker, at least then they wouldn't feel obligated to do this survey
- Customer thinks they're giving you honest, fair feedback... doesn't know 8 means "fuck you"...

<——- Can anyone read that, then tell me with a straight face, that they believe Lowe’s Corporation actually wants customers to know about this thing and fill it out?????
Let me explain- they technically don't have to give customers the option to take surveys. Ideally they wouldn't do the survey thing at all. They only do it because their competitors do it. If they don’t, they seem to not care or not want the feedback. Bad PR. Surveys like this are bad for large businesses in general. I think maybe they started off as an attempt to gather information and use it for improvements some places, but Lowe's ain't takin the time to do all that, give me a break. Do you see things changing? Do you see innovations or now programs that customers are excited about?? No. You don't. You see Genesis. Or you DON'T see a cashier at lumber after 8 p.m. on a Friday.
The more people you ask about their experience or opinion of any business, or any thing of any kind. Any idea, religion, political view.... Any thing. The more people you poll, the more people you find that don't like that thing, or absolutely hate it. This is something a business wants to prevent it's customers from seeing. Lowe's Corporate does the surveys this way because the scores might as well be zero if they're not 100. From the corporate perspective, 99 is -1. If they didn't offer surveys at all, that score would go up to 0.
The 8 being the same as zero is "The Evil Corporation" attempting to make it blatantly obvious to the employee that they should NOT TELL CUSTOMERS ABOUT THE SURVEY unless that customer is guaranteed to give a 10. If they are actively raving about how great the service was, then you tell them how to do the stupid survey. It's not rocket science.
It's a cheat code, if you take the time to actually look at it. I don't know if they were hoping people would figure it out on their own or what. Maybe all the managers in the country missed the memo. Or if it's just like any training related thing at Lowe's - they just don't bother with it. Corporate obviously can't throw this out there in the training video.
"This next lesson will address how you, the front line employee, can help the Lowe's family navigate the murky waters of running a business who's service is in SUCH high demand, that you can pretty much just open the doors and ignore it, as long as someone is there to ring up the customers and try to prevent them from stealing the big stuff! Let's start by addressing how we rig something called L T R., to make sure we don't just go around all willy nilly like. tellin' Karen about things Karen shouldn't know!"
It would be awesome if that was part of the training, for sure, but you can see how that might not land well with some audiences,
Whoever set the surveys up this way is really smart. We should all stop bitching about it, and start using it to our advantage. Or just not do it at all, and pretend to give a shit around management. Either one is fine.

So yeah... think about it, read through it again. Whatever. Tell me to piss off if you want.
Then go get a $20- visa gift card and a phony email. Next time you clock in to work, log in to the Lowe's online order app under a made up name, hopefully a funny one that you post as a response to this. Order a bag of chips or whatever. Go pick it yourself, close it out, just incase some DBAG is on to your WILEY little plan. Then give yourself a little feedback by taking that survey. Remember the receipt is the SECOND email you'll get. If you don’t like the chips just put a 10 on that first question. You can intimate your concerns or suggestions in the comments. $20 you're going to spend at Lowes either way. I mean... I'm not gona waste my time doing that shit, but it's always an option for you go getters.

Depending on your country, there could be more than ten payment methods available. Unfortunately, cryptocurrencies are not currently supported. Nevertheless, the most popular fiat methods include Visa, Skrill, Trustly and more. All of these methods are also supported for withdrawals.
The minimum deposit and withdrawal amounts are $/€20. The payment processor also imposes maximum limits. However, the casino has set its withdrawal limits of $/€5,000 per week or $/€15,000 per month. Any withdrawals that exceed this amount can be paid in instalments. Exceptions may be made for the most loyal customers.
You’ll also be pleased to know that there are no payment fees set up in the casino, but players should bear in mind that the payment processor could charge up to 5% for withdrawals to credit or debit cards and e-wallets.
Withdrawal requests are processed as soon as possible. However, the casino states in its terms and conditions that it could take up to three days.
You may also be asked to verify your account by sending identification documents. This could happen on your first withdrawal or on withdrawals that exceed $/€2,000.

We could not find a live chat feature. There may be a live chat for registered members only. Telegram is the only support option we could locate. You can download the channel and speak to an agent instantly.
It is also worth checking the casinos' FAQ page. A few questions have been covered, but we would have liked to have seen more, considering the lack of live chat functionality.
However, the good news is that if you experience any issues with the casino regarding payment, bonuses, software, deposits, accounts, or others, you are welcome to file a complaint with AskGamblers Casino Complaints Service. The casino has clearly outlined the steps in the ‘Complaints’ tab.

2024.04.29 10:46 octavian0914 Tribes of the Wind home rules

Hey! I've recently bought Tribes of the Wind and, although some aspects of the game seemed quite nice and well-balanced, I was underwhelmed by a few things: 1. The scoring system (basically the only things which matter are village cards and being able to finish the game first to gain +5 points) 2. The absence of rounds or something like that, it becomes boring eventually to just do the same things all over again until you build 5 villages, it feels like the game would benefit from some changes in the game progression. Like maybe adding some changes to every person's game screen whenever the 1/2/3/4 village is built for the first time etc. 3. The overall weakness of some cards and mechanics, such as the catapult.
Basically, I was wondering if someone tried some home rules to fix these things or change the game in some other way. If so, please feel free to share them here!

2024.04.29 10:43 Cool-Equivalent9172 Help with a weird list

Alright so I am looking to build something a little wacky and in my infinite wisdom I landed upon a Lotho Lurrus companion deck, which as faw as I can tell is shaping up to be a stax deck, however I am not entirely sure how this deck would win, and as it stands now it only has 26 cards in it. I will put the deck list below and please feel free to drop any suggestions you may have. I am also toying with the idea of just putting Lurrus in the 99 but am then struggling with why not just play Tymna instead of Lotho, alas if possible I'd like to stick to the original idea but if not I am willing to change it.

2024.04.29 10:40 AffectionateWater299 quest line order?

apologies if this has been asked before, i’ve never played FNV before. after wrestling with the mighty beast and subduing it with anti crash mods and other techno wizardry, ive finally managed to stabilize the delicate house of cards that is the PC port of new vegas.
i’ve gotten as far as needing to meet benny at the tops. haven’t gone into free side yet. i’ve helped goodsprings, the NCR has primm, i fucked the legion up after they torched nipton, the ghouls are on the moon or whatever, boone killed a crazy cat lady and now follows me as blood pact dictates, i checked on the ranger station for the dude in novac. i’m realizing as im writing this i haven’t fucked with the powder ganger prison so i might go do that if it doesn’t happen naturally. which leads me to my question:
if i simply follow the main questline, will i continue to pick up quests as i’ve been going along? for some reason getting to new vegas feels like end game, even if im blissfully unaware of how much more the game has in store.
please no spoilers. it’s amazing ive done as well as i have without them!

2024.04.29 10:31 PcQuestionAccount Irgendwelche Fehler beim PC Build?

Irgendwelche Fehler beim PC Build?
Wie der Titel schon sagt bin ich kein PC Bau Experte. Ich denke darüber nach einen PC zu bauen der erstmal eine Weile halten soll, meiner hat langsam mit neueren Spielen zu kämpfen. Also... mache ich irgendetwas Dummes? Schlechtes Motherboard? Schlechte SSD? Falsche Kühlung? Schlechter RAM?

  • I do my best to include every sale, but at the same time I focus on sales that are worth a mention, meaning sales start with at least 20% and up. I usually skip anything below that unless it's a worth while title.
  • Click on the price to visit the store page for that game.
  • The end date of the sale isn't mentioned, you can check the store page to see it.
  • All of these sales are based on the US store front, so some sales may not be available depending on your country.

~ General Recommendations (All Consoles) For Anyone Who Can't Decide ~

First off, I won't recommend big or famous games like Final Fantasy or Persona, this is more for lesser know, hidden gems, or just games where it's hard to find someone talking about them.

[Valkyria Chronicles]

[Valkyria Chronicles 4]

This one is really hard to explain through words alone, but just in case, the VC series is a World War 2 military setting story, where you act as the lead of a squad and take mission to drive back the enemy. The story is drama heavy and the gameplay is tactical turn-based, but it's mixed with real-time third person shooter.
You can also make your own army by recruiting different types of solders, training them and upgrading their gear. From rifles to tanks, this is a game you have to experience to understand.

[Atelier Ryza]

A great and fun series that really can't be summed up in a short description. So to give a more detailed explanation and to save on save; if you're interested in this series, then check this "Where to start" thread about the series:
(Link to "Where do I start with the Atelier series")

[WitchSpring R]

If you're a fan of the Atelier series, or just want to play a really well made and wholesome turn-based JRPG, then this is an easy choice. A great game with many optional bosses, dungeons to explore, and pets to collect and even use as mounts. The story is very well paced and always keep the story moving forward that it won't take you 20 to 27 hours to finish, or a bit longer depending how much of side content you'll go for. But above all, the main character is loveable and so are the supporting case.
The story isn't deep or complex, but also it's not as chill or relaxing as an Atelier series. There are stakes and there are a lot of plot twists, but it is all well done for an indie developer.

[SD GUNDAM G Generation Cross Rays]

You want a Tactical Mecha game focused on the Gundam universe, but mainly the AU era, with great graphics/animation, crazy amount of customization and days worth of playtime ? That's a very specific request, but here you go.
Cross Rays brings you amazing Metal on Metal smack down! with a huge (and I mean huge) list of Mechs to develop, evolve, capture, fuse, exchange, and unlock throughout a long and satisfying story campaign, and a customization system deep and varied enough to lose days of your life on. You can even customize your original characters, and even choose the OST for each individual attack for each mech.
With multiple difficulties from the get go, and more unlocked once you finish the game, a full playthrough (not 100%) just through the story missions, is easily 100+ hours, but since the game is built on a missions based system, where you can choose to play any story at any time and switch from series to another at your will, you can at your own pace, and there is no need to finish everything since because you can simply stop when you have had enough.
If you're looking for a deep tactical combat, this isn't it, but if you're looking for a trip through some of the best stories in the Gundam universe, and one of the best Gundam/Mecha games with fantastic animations and deep and expansive customization, this is it. And now, it's Dirt Cheap for the amount of content it has ($9.99)

[LIVE A LIVE]

The original SNES game is already a classic game in the genre, and this remake elevated it even higher. Great animation, fun combat system, add great voice acting, 8 main characters to choose from, each in their own time period, from the stone age, to futuristic space age. A true gem of the past that has been polished and is now shining than ever before.
Finally, the music. The reason I left this to the last is because if you are someone who loves JRPG soundtracks, this game is a MUST play, forget the graphics, forget the story, forget the gameplay. The music in this is AMAZING! It alone is worth the full price of the game let alone the now that it's on sale.

[Legend of Mana Remaster]

A Fantastic game in everything except it's combat, which is average. Though with this remaster, you can even turn off combat any time you want. The remaster in itself is great, polishing up the visuals and adding a ENTIRE orchestral version for each track in the game, and this is a game with an amazing soundtrack by Yoko Shimomura. So now you can switch between the original OST and the new orchestral one at any time.
The game follows an open-world concept with lots of freedom and giving you the choice on where to place each city/kingdom/dungeon on the map, and depending on how you do it, you'll unlock better weapons, items, quests, and so on.
It's a great game that you need to experience to know how good it is.

[Ys series]

This is a case of a whole series is filled with great games, it's really hard to go wrong here.
But if you're going to choose one, then this one is an easy pick. Fantastic soundtrack ? check! Great Smooth Action gameplay ? check! Dogi the wall breaker ? check! Base building and crafting ? check! and check! So if you're looking amazing music while you hack and slash your way through monsters and bosses, then Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is easily your go to game.

As always, please do add your own recommendations, and let me know if there is mistake or if something was missing, and have a nice day.

2024.04.29 10:24 Illustrious_Half_935 Alot of missgrading.

Hi, I want to know your opinion on something. I dont play yugioh but I collect old cards. Most of them are probably not playable anymore. What i noticed is that 99% of the NM cards i recive are missgraded. How do you guys check for correct grading? In my opinion if a card has a small dent on the back it's just not NM. Like I said an insane amount of cards are severly misgraded. I think this is especialy bad for cards that are old and only for collections. As it impacts the value of the card drasticly and it makes a whole bunch od them ineligable for grading thus taking a bunch of time and ruining a potential investment. Feel free to spit on me or agree! Cheers!

2024.04.29 10:21 pillowdemon The Importance of Self-Custodial Cold Hardware Wallets for Serious Investors

The Importance of Self-Custodial Cold Hardware Wallets for Serious Investors
(I posted a very similar topic earlier in the week that was a bunch of text with zero organization. This version adds headers and a better close-out.)

Crypto Exchanges vs. Fiat Banks

The first thing to emphasize is crypto exchanges, or CEXs (such as Coinbase) are still very much like centralized fiat exchanges (aka banks), particularly in that they don’t “store” crypto - just as most modern banks don’t “store” cash - they lend it.
Here's a question for you: when you created a Coinbase account, did you write down a seed phrase for any of your wallets? Do you know how to access your private keys? Most likely not. That's because while you signed up for a Coinbase account, you don't necessarily "own" the crypto wallets associated with your account. Coinbase does.

A Relevant Black Swan Event

The crucial difference between a bank and a crypto exchange is that the former is government regulated, while crypto definitely is not - though that looks to change over the next 5-10 years or so. But today, unlike FDIC-insured banks, you will not be covered by any centralized entity in the event of a crypto exchange collapsing or folding.
Among many reasons, this is partly why the FTX collapse was such a big deal (where FTX was an exchange, just like Binance, Coinbase, etc today, that rose to explosive popularity). People were holding BTC, memes, alts, everything on there, and any crypto held on the exchange when it folded basically evaporated straight through account holders' fingers.

BUT

Those who took the initiative to transfer crypto from their FTX accounts to their own personal crypto wallets were completely unaffected by the FTX collapse. This is Reason Number 1 to own a crypto wallet: cryptocurrencies directly under your control are untethered to black swan events that may befall centralized entities such as CEXs going under.

Crypto Exchanges vs. Fiat Banks, Revisited

Revisiting banks and exchanges, let's run another hypothetical: say every bank member of some bank tried to withdraw their entire bank accounts into hard cash, simultaneously. Most banks simply would not be able to do this and would just fold. This is where institutions like the FDIC would step in and cover any losses up to a predetermined amount for insured accounts- which would be all of them under an FDIC-insured bank.
With a crypto exchange, if everyone tried to literally cash out all their crypto at the exact same time, more than likely the exchange would just fold (as actually demonstrated by FTX), but the difference is that there wouldn't be a centralized entity like the FDIC to step in and cover people's losses.
One silver lining of the FTX collapse was that it acts as a major deterrent for any exchange today to act badly, but Coinbase, Binance, etc are still exchanges with the exact same risks, without centralized, government-backed failsafe measures via the FDIC. While everyone agrees SBF is as a close to scum of the earth as you can get in the world of crypto, in terms of regulation and how an exchange actually works, there has been little in the way of updates from FTX to exchanges that are active today.
The one exception to this is Coinbase, which offers a $1,000,000 reimbursement protection for all Coinbase One accounts (the paid tier that starts at $30/mo or $300/yr). This is relatively new as far as CEX backing goes, and is notably not government backed or regulated by any third party. But it's a start, and I sincerely hope any future events don't test their ability to fulfill this promise suddenly and en masse.
All this said, remember Robinhood at the height of the GME short squeeze? How accounts froze and, in addition to people locked out of their funds, congestion and stutters simply made it hard to do anything reliaby on the exchange? Here are a couple tweets that may or may not look eerily similar in tone, despite being from different CEXs:
https://preview.redd.it/smlorw13jdxc1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=0a58c67fe7cef24b578fb28c06964df44b59cb93

In addition to echoing Reason Number 1, this leads to Reason Number 2 to own a crypto wallet: if exchange servers and networks get loaded up, congested, and freeze or stutter during high traffic, it's peace of mind to know that any coins you're not actively transacting are safe and sound in a separate, secure location.
"Okay, pillowdemon," you might be saying, "you've convinced me to at least begin looking into crypto wallets. Where should I start?"

Crypto Wallets 101

There are two types: Hot and Cold
Hot wallets are internet-tethered. They are created and their seed phrases and keys are generated while everything is connected to the internet. To us, these look a lot like "apps" - they're essentially software apps you run on your phone or computer.
Cold wallets can (and really should) be generated offline, including the seed/pass phrases and keys needed to access and recover them. Because of this, it's fairly common to find them in some kind of physical form factor. Older cold storage hardware wallets looked basically like thumb drives (though they function much differently), while newer offerings look exactly like regular credit cards and have embedded chips.
Obviously, cold hardware-based wallets are considered much more secure, the main tradeoff being that you are solely responsible for your wallet security, with no company or tech support to help you out in case you mess up anywhere along the line. If you lose or destroy your hardware, and especially if you lose/destroy your seed phrases and keys, you're completely out of luck. This tradeoff of sheer accountability for full ownership and control is what comprises the term self-custodial.
A lot of cold storage options use hardware redundancy, just like having multiple copies of the key to your house. For example, Tangem offers a credit card form factor "pack of 2 or 3", where the point is to store them in different locations to insure against your car going up in a fiery inferno, your apartment going up in a fiery inferno, and you dropping your traditional real-life wallet (that holds one of your crypto hardware wallets) into the ocean during a cruise. If all 3 happen to you simultaneously, MAN that's bad luck.

The Ability to Read and Write

For those more versed in the coding/software side of things, it's important, or maybe just interesting, to clarify that a cold storage wallet is NOT directly analogous to a physical wallet where crypto is "inside" them like cash is "inside" a traditional wallet.
Instead, cryptocurrencies exist on networks using blockchains, which are the running ledgers logging all transactions related to that crypto. When you "hold" some amount of crypto, you really just have "write" access (that is, the ability to sign contracts and send crypto from an address) to an address associated with some blocks on the blockchain - keeping in mind that literally everyone has "read" access to any known address. Your crypto wallet is that address, or a collection of addresses, you have "write" access to for various crypto.

Armor in Uncharted Territory

This leads to Reason Numbers 3 and 4 to get a cold storage wallet: it's the most secure way to interface with Web3 and dApps. The crucial factor is that the crypto landscape is, say it with me now, unregulated. So it's best to think of the space as being ALL "dark web" where none of your information is secure and your wallets can be poked at by bad actors everywhere you go. And there's no scary red screen on Chrome warning you that you're stepping out into uncharted, potentially dangerous territory, offering to take you back to where it's safe.
Having a cold storage wallet is like walking around such a space with your own personal https hazmat suit, since all your information was generated and secured offline, away and simply out of reach from bad actors and malicious code sussing out vulnerabilities in a bid to find your phrases and keys. This allows you to interface worry-free with various useful dApps that can help you get ground-floor knowledge of new and potentially gem crypto, or to connect securely with DEXs such as Aerodrome Finance
One caveat: there is no protection against phishing scams, which basically boils down to user error, and it's up to you to protect yourself against malicious smart contracts, where a normal-appearing, even appealing exchange of crypto (such as accepting random cyrptocurrency drops to your wallet in exchange for nothing) may cleverly veil the next part of the contract where you unwittingly off ramp the entire contents of your wallet to various addresses.

So Why Doesn't Literally Everyone Have Their Own Self-Custodial Cold Hardware Crypto Wallet?

It's simply not FOR everyone. Even with the most absolute beginner-friendly wallets available today, making irreversible errors, from mildly annoying to major, to holy-shit-I-don't-know-where-$50,000-of-BTC-ended-up-after-I-greenlit-this-transaction, are real and fairly common. They're extremely difficult to avoid without gory attention to detail.
I'd rather not go into the minute details here, but there's a certain amount of technical literacy that you need to comfortably operate a wallet, and on a scale out of 10, where 2 is plugging in your keyboard, 7 is building your own gaming PC, and 10 is rocket science, I'd say you'd better be around a 6 at the absolute minimum, with 8 onwards denoting someone who can pick up the ins and outs relatively quickly at minimal risk. Operating a wallet can be genuinely more risky for your funds compared to leaving them on an exchange if you don't know what you're doing or get careless at the wrong time.
That said, once you successfully move your first few currencies off an exchange and onto your very own cold hardware wallet, that sense of accomplishment and control you have over your own crypto destiny is hard to beat.

It's a Long Post. Here's a TLDR:

  • Wallets are much safer for crypto storage than on CEXs
  • Self-custodial cold hardware wallets are the safest, but you assume full accountability for your security and operating the wallet competently
  • Reason 1 to own a cold wallet: you'll be safe from CEXs collapsing (re: FTX)
  • Reason 2: things will be weird and scary at the peak of the bull run with potential freezes, stutters, and potential funds lock-ups (re: Robinhood at height of GME short squeeze), particularly at times of high traffic and congestion. Having your holdings in a separate location, such as your wallet, will bring peace of mind
  • Reason 3: safest way to browse Web3
  • Reason 4: safest way to interface with dApps
  • Cold Storage Hardware Wallets aren't for everyone; rethink if you're just straight up not technically literate
  • But if you're willing to put in the time to learn how to use them, it's worth it.

Am I doing something stupid?
So as the title suggests, Im not a expert on pc building and am thinking about building a PC to last me a while since mine is starting to struggle with newer games. So... am i doing something stupid? Bad motherboard? Bad SSD? Cooling wrong? Bad Ram? I basically just chose parts with good reviews for the parts i dont know a lot about so please let me know if im doing something wrong. I chose a CPU GPU combo which I dont think should throttle but hey im asking people who know better for a reason. Is the chosen case a problem? Or should I in general wait for some new releases before I buy? Im more than fine to wait till the end of this year or so or longer if there is a good enough reason to. I would love some input from people who know better than me :)
PS: Wattage was about 600 but I chose a power supply with 850 Capacity just so my house doesnt burn down. Again correct me if i did something wrong here too.
