2024.05.29 06:47 Alarming_Money3217 Mother guilt trips me into getting PS.

F27, My self esteem is taking hit after hit . I must be very ugly so I will not post pics to not ruin your day.
since i was 13 i was always on some sort of diet, some sort of cosmetic procedure forced by my mom. I put braces from 13 y.o till 17 y.o. Had skin peeling procedures at 15. Had a nose job at 19. Had a botox injection at 20. My hair is in bad state from weekly blow dry . 2 perms in the past 2 years. As well as a face liposuction consultancy. While being on a baby’s portion worth diet.with eating once to twice a day a very small portion.
Now she wants me to get a tooth shaving procedure for my bunny teeth and a retainer ( again) but this time permanent as well as veneers.
I must be very ugly, because when i say no she blames it on me for “ wanting to leave my faults unchecked “ She doesn’t fathom how i might not dislike my features as much. I even noticed she doesn’t feel hunger. She barely eats and tells me she always did. while everyone tells me i’ll fall apart if i don’t eat more. She is always bragging about how guys were heads over heels for her , and i am 27 and neverr dated so maybe she thinks if she fixes my appearance someone might like me.
As a child i wasn’t into makeup or cosmetics and only did it to please her. No i despise that fake plastic look, and i am not a super girly girly girl. I am more adventurous and kinda like exploring.
I know some replies might say that i am an adult but here your parents still have a say till you get married. It is different from the west. There are some cultural intonations to it as well.

2024.05.29 06:45 ryeander American society heavily favors women over men

From childhood to college to working years and unto death, women are increasingly favored over men for at least the past few decades in America. And not enough people realize this will come with significant costs and downsides to America as we age.
1.)
Teachers give higher grades to girls than to boys with the same academic ability. And the bias is evident across different types of schools and for different teacher characteristics, suggesting teachers are hard-wired to give girls higher marks. The size of the gap is considerable and could have significant long-term consequences, both on college admission and employment prospects:
Researchers compared the results of standardized anonymous tests taken by almost 40,000 15 and 16-year-olds in language and math with the grades the same students were awarded in classroom tests. While the results of the anonymous tests followed the expected pattern, with girls outperforming boys in languages and boys doing better in math, in the non-anonymous classroom tests the girls scored higher in both subjects.
And the disparity could mean the difference between boys getting a pass and a fail in some subjects.
The average grade for girls in language was 6.6 out of 10, compared with 6.2 for boys, and in math it was 6.3 for girls and 5.9 for boys, just under the pass mark of 6.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/nickmorrison/2022/10/17/teachers-are-hard-wired-to-give-girls-better-grades-study-says/?sh=7f95fbef70a6
2.)
For the class of 2022, women comprised 58.6% of all bachelor degrees.
For the class of 2022, women comprised 57% of doctorate and professional degrees. As we know, people who have degrees tend to make more money, widening the growing pay gap between men and women.
https://educationdata.org/number-of-college-graduates
3.)
Working women already earn more than men on average, per hour:
The New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles metropolitan areas are among the cities where young women are earning the most relative to young men. In both the New York and Washington metro areas, young women earn 102% of what young men earn when examining median annual earnings among full-time, year-round workers…
However, even among full-time, year-round workers, men and women devote DIFFERENT amounts of time to work. Men under 30 usually work 44 hours per week, on average, compared with 42 hours among young women.
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/03/28/young-women-are-out-earning-young-men-in-several-u-s-cities/
In healthcare, at least 53.7% of the next generation of doctors are all women. One medical school even BOASTED about the fact that OVER 65% of its student doctors were female.
Please also keep in mind: 22% of women doctors choose to work part time, and 9% of male doctors choose part time. This only exacerbates the doctor shortage in America, as the field continues to grow in favor of a female ratio.
Other healthcare jobs with good pay are dominated by women:
87% of all registered nurses are women.
88.8% of nurse practitioners and 78% of physician assistant students are women (average 130K salary).
https://www.ama-assn.org/education/medical-school-diversity/women-medical-schools-dig-latest-record-breaking-numbers
4.)
Women are living longer and longer than men.
As life expectancy at birth in the US decreased for the second consecutive year, from 78.8 years (2019) to 77.0 years (2020) and 76.1 years (2021), the gap between women and men widened to 5.8 years, its LARGEST since 1996 and an INCREASE from a low of 4.8 years in 2010.

5.)
Healthcare funding is heavily slanted towards women. Example:
The NIH spending for prostate cancer in 2015 was US$288 million, which is LESS THAN HALF that for breast cancer…The difference between public funding and disease burden is even more striking in the case of COPD: NIH invested a mere US$97 million, almost SEVEN TIMES LESS than for breast cancer, although COPD killed 292,000 Americans, SIX TIMES MORE than breast cancer.

2024.05.29 06:45 Necessary-Flow2504 Bad medical advice? Just diagnosed

Hi,
I had a few blistery bumps down below and went to walk in clinic as I was concerned of possible herpes. The doctor did a physical exam and a swab for “other stis” and confirmed it was herpes and wrote a prescription for anti viral meds.
I asked when I would get results back to confirm it was herpes and he said, I just confirmed it. The swap was for other stds.
I began to cry and he was quite taken aback saying herpes was very common and no big deal and just to avoid unprotected sex during an outbreak and there was no need to disclose to anyone. I said that I had read online you can give someone herpes when you are not experiencing an outbreak and he said that is extremely rare and there is no need to tell partners about this and that i just need to use condoms during an outbreak or abstain. This doesn’t sound right to me?
I’ve now read that there is two kinds of herpes. I don’t even know which I have? I’m so confused about information online. I meet with my family doctor in a few weeks and will formulate some questions for him but i just don’t know how to feel and where to look for credible information.
I feel like my life of having lots of sex and multiple sexual partners is over. My sexual lifestyle feels like part of my identity. I’m also mad at myself for not knowing any better. I make partners get sti tests prior to going without barriers but had no idea herpes is not tested with other stis?
Can someone weigh in on the info from this doctor??
Obviously I know disclosure is an individual decision but some of what he said is just false right?

2024.05.29 06:42 LurkWriter Am I doing this right?

Hello everyone. I usually just lurk Reddit but I'm getting a bit worried about my new beardie.
So I work at a stinky retail pet shop (gross, I know, I want out) and one day we got a shipment of some new bearded dragons. After I acclimated them and brought them to their enclosures, most were acting normal, except for the smallest one, who would jump on my hand and refuse to leave it whenever I cleaned the enclosure and checked the dragons. Management was getting "concerned" about this dragon's attachment to me since he did not like other customers, so since I had a spare enclosure lying around, I brought him home with me and have had him for about a month.
He's been doing extremely well, I've been doing tons of reasearch and spending a lot of time making sure he gets everything he needs, and I even take him outside for at least 10 minutes of natural sunlight each day since my apartment has no real natural light coming in. But I've been getting worried recently because of two things.
For one, his eating behavior is so strangely inconsistent. One day he eats completely normally and is being his normal playful self. The next day, he's interested in eating, walks up to his food, and then just stops before he even tries and runs off. It's so bizarre. He's still healthy physically, his skin has actually gotten a lot better since I got him, as well as his strength, but I don't get why he's not eating the "normal" way. I've read several articles online about how beardies at this stage need a lot of food, and every beardie at the shop I work at eats every day and is always wanting to eat. But for some reason, my little guy just doesn't. There's also been other strange behavior I've noticed, where he'll be staring at the wall behind his enclosure and be acting like something is there (the glass is not reflective). Or he decides to jump onto the lid and try climbing upside down and then freaks out, or like right now where he's trying to climb up a glass wall like a gecko and failing miserably. I can't tell if this is just wacky personality like some beardie owners talk about or a genuine health concern, given that I have raised multiple lizards before with mental/physiological handicaps and this behavior is similar.
For reference, he is currently in a 15 gallon enclosure long, 3 times the size of the one at the store. I asked a friend who owns bearded dragons if I shouls start out with the full enclosure or a smaller one, and she suggested starting with a smaller more manageable one given the fact he isn't even over 7 inches head to tail. I use a 75w basking infrared bulb and a 10.0 UVB bulb for lighting, and the temperature is always between 75-90, never above or below. He has a hide, sphagnum moss, a water bowl that's more like a pool since he enjoys swimming, and an assortment of wood angled upwards that he climbs frequently. The only odd thing about the terrarium is the humidity makes no sense. I can keep solid humidity in every other enclosure except this one, at least according to the hydrometers. It used to stay at 30% most times but lately its been at 20% at multiple points of the day, so I've been misting a bit here in there and watering the substrate. I do that, and then even if it was barely any water the hydrometer shoots way up to 70-80%. Then two to three hours later, the hydrometer claims its back down to 20%. I've used three different hydrometers, and it makes no sense. Most times when it says its 20%, I can still feel some slight moisture on the substrate or plants.
I've gotten him to eat crickets, mealworms, superworms (accident, had a spill and some fell in and he ate them which was surprising), hornworms, dubia roaches and house flies. As far as veggies go, he's very picky, but he has begun regularly eating mashed carrots, the only vegetable he will eat at this time, which I think is fine given his age? He's been defecating and "peeing" normally too.
I don't know. I'm just worried I'm doing something wrong and hurting the little guy. My dad and my friend says its okay and he may just have a weird personality but I want to get an outside opinion from somewhere.
TL;DR I have a baby bearded dragon I've had for a month, he's about 1 1/2 to 2 months old, he's eating fine some days and others he just won't, but is still apparently healthy, is acting out of the ordinary for a bearded dragon and I'm worried I'm doing something wrong or he may be sick. One of my friends and my father have said it's fine but I want an outside opinion.
Thanks.
Quick Edit - Temperature described is in Fahrenheit. In Celsius it's between 23.8-32.2 C.

2024.05.29 06:42 Venkirox Can’t wash my hair with just water after moving

So I moved from one country to another and now water here is hard and I also do not have a standing shower(I have a bathtub with shower which I have to hold so I have only one hand for mechanical cleaning) and both of those things make it incredibly hard to wash hair with just water. I tried 3 times and my hair was still greasy. I was doing no poo for 3 months before without any problems.
I had to use shampoo today and I am worried my hair will go back to state they were before ( I had to clean them with shampoo every day or they looked like I spilled oil on them).
Can I do something or get a shampoo that won’t cause my hair to become greasy again?

2024.05.29 06:41 Kwuahh Razer Mouse - Third Broken in Two Years, Serial Number Not Found

I need help - I'm a little frustrated. My first Deathadder Elite mouse had the sticky grips become unusable after falling off. I bought a new one a couple years ago and everything was fine until the middle mouse button failed to start registering.
I bought a new mouse a few months back, and now this one is failing to have the right-click hold or register. It flickers when I test it, and it constantly goes in and out. This is after only a few months of regular wear and tear.
I went to the support site and it won't let me contact an agent until I get my serial number correct - but I've double and triple checked it to no avail.
Does anyone have any tips to fix this issue? I'm beyond frustrated at three mice failing (same model) in different ways in just a couple years.
Thanks

2024.05.29 06:38 Cartaphilus09 I hate being trans so much

I'm currently at the lowest point in my life, and I'm turning to Reddit, which is incredibly embarrassing, to share my problems because I have no one else to talk to. I hate being trans; it's the root cause of all my issues, and it brings me nothing but pain. Both my friends and family are entirely transphobic for various reasons, so I feel lonely even in their presence, which is incredibly disheartening. I'm attempting to find a therapist to confide in, but it's proving difficult as no one has availability for new patients until next year in March, which is incredibly frustrating. Despite being only 20, which offers some comfort, it also brings anxiety. I'm still attending school and attempting to make new friendships with more accepting individuals, but I continually fail. The pattern is: I approach someone, we hit it off, exchange numbers, and chat outside of school, but I always find myself initiating conversations, and when I don't, there's silence. I've sought out trans-friendly advisory services, but their advice is always the same: "You should meet new people," which feels dismissive because that's precisely what I'm trying to do! I'm overwhelmed by loneliness, and frustrated by my inability to find accepting individuals. All I want is acceptance for who I am. I constantly wish I were either a girl or a cis boy so I wouldn't have to endure this struggle. The most challenging part is reading online that transitioning is a lonely journey and that life will only become more difficult, which makes me question whether it's even worth it. I wonder if it would be easier to continue living as a guy, even though I despise it. Creating this post makes me cringe, but I needed to express these feelings and get them off my chest.

2024.05.29 06:37 IndependentLight123 27 [F4M] Looking for someone constant

I gave myself time to think and reflect why my past relationships failed. I kept on giving and I expected the same effort to be given back and only to realize that it won't happen.
I am here to give it another try. This time around, I am not looking for potential. I will try to know you for who you are and what you can currently offer.
I'm not perfect, so are you. But I want to know all of your flaws, your imperfections and embrace it as part of you. I hope you will do the same with me. Let's not be each other's challenge to be conquered but let us find home in each other's arms.
What I can currently offer: My utmost dedication to know you and spend time with you despite my very busy schedule.
I am a small but strong, independent woman in her late 20s. I'm used to living alone and I know what it's like and that is why I want to be with someone. Isn't it nice to share our day with a constant person?
I am financially capable to spend for my own needs and wants. I finished my studies and still want to continue further. I love our country kahit mahirap mahalin, and so I want someone who shares the same sentiment. (Not necessarily loving the govt bec duh but being aware of our flaws and positives as a country)
Outside work, we can take on new adventures together. Share with me your interests as I would like to explore it to know you better. Mine is reading, my beloved pets, a bit of video games, and nature. I like to travel so maybe we can do that together. I exercise on my own but not confident enough with how I look, YET. (an insecurity that I need to get over).
I'm fair-skinned, my body is average. I'm not fil-chi or any half-half. I'm pure filipino and so are my facial features. And I'm small.
What I hope you are:
Handsome. I find handsome what I find handsome. Taller than me as I want someone who can carry me so I can see from your pov.
Has lots of stories to tell and can make me learn something new. A person who can accommodate another person in his life (time, financially capable as we will be going out so can spend for his own needs and wants, can update and will not disappear, can commit to change, a listener and willing to improve himself not just physically but emotionally and mentally).
This will take time as I do not want to love bomb you or the other way around. Let's just see where it goes. And if you are the one, I will know it when you are the first person that comes to mind to share my highs and lows.
So, let's give it a try?
Message me with your intro (details about you not just physical but non-physical traits) and why this piqued your interest.

2024.05.29 06:37 Interesting-Half3173 challenge run

Been trying to think of a lets play challenge run to do but i can't really think of any that meaningfully change how i play the game to make it actually interesting to do/watch. main issue is finding one that'll fit in with the other stuff i know i will do ( if anyone's curious fire emblem echoes 100% the game in 500 turns / dragon quest 11 all dragonic quest but all battles are done consistently and triangle stragey no death new game run)
the stuff i've tried so far are:
nuzlockes ( namely " hardcore " and monotype ) found it mostly to easy though i will admit i only got to the 6th gym in my test run before stopping.
no evoultion: tbh was kinda hard, but not exactly intresting as i just went from playing normally to abusing set up moves and status conditions to win battles consistenly
1 pokemon run, didn't try it i just don't like the idea doing it myself.
no exp: admitly this one isn't possible only as i lack coding skill XD though unsure its actually possible anyway for gen 5 as i banned legendaries since ... you know they at base level already are desgined to beat the elite four and ch-- team plasma
and the only other one i was doing research for before deciding it would simply not be worth the effort ( and because it would be like a 200 part lets play purely because of the amount of side-content i'd need to do/possiblely not being possible purely because no wifi anymore ) pokemon white 2 but i get all medals that still exist in the game in minimal battles.
if anyone has any ideas let me know as i got nothing i can really think of for pokemon due to how easy the series is compared to most JRPGs

2024.05.29 06:36 dogtownsdown Pregnancy related curl loss

Pregnancy related curl loss
I just came across this sub today after struggling to deal with fixing curl loss since having my first baby almost 4 years ago. I used to have tight-ish curls with little effort. I have always washed every other day or so and just used whatever cream I have at the time, nothing specific. I have never heard of cgm until today.
After I gave birth to my first baby my hair went from full curls to essentially growing in straight. Its been almost 4 years since the first pregnancy and 2 since I last gave birth and I finally feel like it’s starting to grow in curlier again. The problem is it’s still not like it was and I’ve been struggling with how to fix/adapt since. My hair is frizzier and the curls I do have are loose and almost non existent by the end of the day. My baby hairs are crazy and hard to style because they are so frizzy. Also while I have some curl on top, the under layer is essentially straight right now and I haven’t seen any curl return to that area.
Has anyone dealt with this or have any suggestions for this type of situation? Now that I know about cgm I will try that. Has anyone with postpartum changes seen their hair type go back to the way it was? I love my curly hair and am hoping making some routine changes will help bring back some more curl. First pic is before kids , second is from about 1 year ago.

🔗45lb Body-Solid Olympic Weight Plate with Quad-Grip Design

As a fitness enthusiast myself, I recently got the chance to upgrade my weightlifting setup with the Body Solid 45 lb. Rubber Grip Olympic Plates. The first thing that caught my eye was the quad-grip design. Unlike traditional plates, this one has four grips making it super safe and convenient to use.
One of the main highlights of these plates is their durability. The heavy-duty rubber casing not only gives them a professional look but also ensures they won't damage any surface including walls, floors, or even the barbell itself. Plus, it has a metal sleeve that securely fits onto any Olympic bar, providing a smooth and sturdy experience while lifting.
However, there's one downside - the weight. Coming in at 45 pounds, these plates can be quite heavy for beginners or those with lower strength levels. But for those serious about weightlifting, this is a small price to pay for such high quality and reliable equipment.
Overall, the Body Solid Rubber Grip Olympic Plates offer a safe, easy-to-use, and durable solution for anyone looking to enhance their weightlifting experience.

I've been using the Titan Fitness 45 LB Economy Bumper Plate for a few weeks now, and I must say, it's been quite a game-changer in my home gym. The low bounce rate and raised plate lip make picking up and changing weights a breeze, even during high-intensity sessions.
One of the standout features of this plate is its sturdiness. Despite its low cost, the plate feels robust and durable – perfect for those heavy lifting days. The grip quality is also notable; I've had no issues with the plate slipping from my hands while loading or unloading it on the barbell.
However, there are a few downsides worth mentioning. Firstly, the smell of rubber can be quite strong at first, but it tends to dissipate after some time. Secondly, some reviewers have reported minor blemishes on the product, though this hasn't affected its performance in my experience.
All in all, the Titan Fitness 45 LB Economy Bumper Plate offers a high-quality, budget-friendly option for those looking to start or enhance their home gym setup. Its easy handling and sturdy design make it a reliable choice for both beginners and seasoned lifters alike.

I recently picked up a set of Everyday Essentials' color-coded Olympic bumper plates for my home gym, and I'm pleasantly surprised with what I got. They're a perfect blend of affordability and quality.
Firstly, the solid stainless steel inserts and high-density rubber have helped in protecting my floor and lifting platform from potential damage caused by dropping heavy weights. The color-coding makes it incredibly easy to identify weights at a glance, which saves a lot of time during intense workout sessions.
However, there were a few drawbacks worth mentioning. Some users reported an unpleasant rubber odor upon opening the boxes, but I experienced this faintly and it faded away after a week or so. Additionally, a couple of my boxes arrived in tatters, but fortunately, the plates inside were all intact and undamaged.
All in all, the Everyday Essentials' Olympic bumper plates offer great value for anyone looking to set up a cost-effective gym. They're reliable, easy to use, and perfect for strength training, weightlifting, and CrossFit workouts. I'm definitely considering buying another set soon!

I recently got my hands on an Interlocking Olympic Weight Plate, specifically the 45 lb version, and it's been a game-changer in my workout routine at home. The unique interlocking design gives me the flexibility to stack a variety of weights on the barbell, making my workout sessions much more versatile and effective. The strategically placed handles are an absolute lifesaver - they make loading and unloading the plates super easy, saving me from straining my fingers.
This plate is perfect for everything from school weight rooms to commercial settings, owing to its robust construction and innovative design. It's a must-have for anyone serious about their fitness. However, the only downside I encountered was the weight plate's size and thickness, which take up quite a bit of space on the collar. Nevertheless, this minor inconvenience doesn't detract from the fact that these weight plates are a worthwhile investment for any fitness enthusiast.

🔗CAP Barbell 45-Pound Cast Iron Olympic Weight Plate

I recently got my hands on the CAP Barbell 45 Lb Olympic Weight Plates, and I must say, they've been quite a game-changer in my workout routine. These plates come in a variety of weights, allowing me to customize my workout sessions perfectly. The machined center hole and the baked enamel finish make them incredibly easy to handle and incredibly sturdy.
However, not everything has been perfect. Upon receiving my plates, I noticed inconsistencies in the weight, which can be a major concern for anyone serious about weight lifting. There were also instances of uneven paint application and rough edges on some of the plates.
The highlight of these weight plates is certainly their durability. Despite the rough handling by the courier, the cast iron plates arrived at my doorstep with only minimal damage. This durability ensures they can withstand the rigors of a hard-core workout session in the long run.
The design of the CAP Barbell 45 Lb Olympic Weight Plates could use some improvement. The oversized hole makes it difficult to fit onto some barbells, and the unbalanced weight distribution causes the plate to tilt while in use, adding an unnecessary level of complexity to an already intense workout.
Despite these shortcomings, the CAP Barbell 45 Lb Olympic Weight Plates provide a cost-effective and durable option for those looking to enhance their workout sessions. However, it's crucial to keep an eye out for any inconsistencies in the weight and improve the design for better usability.

As an avid fitness enthusiast, I've used these 45lb Steel Olympic Plates in my home gym for the past several months, and I can't rave enough about them. Not only do they give my barbell the perfect weight for my powerlifting workouts, but also complement my bodybuilding routines seamlessly. The 2-inch hole size makes them versatile and easy to handle.
The highlight feature has been the commercial-grade quality. Built to withstand rigorous use, these plates show no signs of wear, even after daily intense workouts. Another amazing feature is the premium high-use coating that offers excellent grip and helps prevent any scratches or damages to the surrounding gym equipment.
On the downside, these plates are quite heavy, which makes them slightly challenging to move around my gym area, especially when preparing for different exercise sets. Additionally, their size can sometimes be an issue in terms of storage.
However, the benefits greatly outweigh the drawbacks, making these 45lb Steel Olympic Plates a must-have for anyone serious about their fitness journey.

My Experience: As an avid gym-goer, I decided to switch up my training routine a bit and incorporate bumper plates into my lifting regimen. After trying out the Balancefrom Olympic Bumper Plate Weight Plate Set, I can confidently say that these plates have not only enhanced my strength training but have also made my workouts safer for my floor and equipment.
The Highlights: The high-density rubber plates with solid stainless steel inserts have truly withstood the test of time, as they've maintained their shape even after frequent dropping. The color-coding system makes it super easy to identify the different weights quickly. Plus, the labels in pounds and kilograms are a game-changer for those who prefer either system.
A Few Cons: While the 10-pound plates are thinner to accommodate size consistency across all plates, this makes them more prone to bending if you use them alone. Just be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines to prevent any damage.
All in all, the Balancefrom Olympic Bumper Plate Weight Plate Set has been an excellent addition to my home gym. Not only does it help keep my floors safe from harm, but it also makes my workouts feel more intense and varied.

2024.05.29 06:31 Kikirominniesminks Switching or increase dosage ?

So I’ve been taking concerta 18mg now for two months, I stopped for a couple days but literally wasn’t motivated to do any of my task so I went back on. However I feel like it makes my mood swings worse ( I do struggle with borderline personality disorder and have bipolar tendencies ) and also it hasn’t really helped me focus as much as I would like. Honestly it just helps me get up and do the task, I do like that it’s been easier to do stuff but even that I feel like it’s effect is decreasing. It’s just weird to have days where I feel unstoppable/hyper and proactive to having the most depressive thoughts ever consume me and sprinkle in being overly horny for a couple of hours.
I heard adderal is more potent and better for especially staying awake which is would be pretty helpful as I’m not a morning person and it’s always been hard to get up. But I also want to see if upping the dosage for concerta will make it better because going through the whole med switching with my therapist is a nightmare. She’s so condescending and dismissive ( long story short I did end up in the ward because of her which is why I hate her even more ) I have no history of drug abuse or anything but I constant feel like she thinks the worst of me and it just makes me too self conscious to ask her to up anything or try something else because I don’t want to be viewed that way but I really want to see change
I guess I’m just asking how do I articulate myself better ?

2024.05.29 06:31 TazerCodex Wanting to Withdraw - Not sure how it will affect my financial aid.

Hello everyone,
For some context I am a Junior here who transferred into UW this fall. Over the last few years of college I have not dropped or failed or withdrawn from any class. This quarter I might get a D possibly fail a class because of some IRL issues - I have been a dean's list student with a 3.8+ GPA ever since I got into UW - but due to some unfortunate circumstances I need to drop a 5cr class and it drops me to 8cr which puts me as a Half time student. I am on federal loans atm to help pay for my classes. If I do this how will it affect my future aid, also I am looking to get better aid other than loans starting next year to help more financially.

2024.05.29 06:30 mrgnstrk Thinking of migrating to the US via F1/student visa route? Start here.

I've commented a few times in a few posts about my family's experience going through the F-1 to H-1B to GC route to migrate to the US and I've received a lot of questions over the DM, many of which I thought were pretty basic. I thought it might be helpful to put this primer together so folks know the right questions to ask and approach their planning more strategically.
This post is going to be very candid. I've noticed that the questions I've received come from misconceptions about higher education, F-1 visa, and what comes after graduation. I want to give folks the right information, but also temper expectations and give a realistic portrait of what it means and takes to use the student pathway to legally and permanently reside in the US. It is not a stroll in the park, and I don't want to give anyone the wrong idea.

BACKGROUND

Two of my siblings plus myself are all here in the US via the student visa route. I received my green card in 2021 after being in the US for nearly 4 years. After receiving my Masters at a prestigious university, I was hired immediately by an organization willing to sponsor my H-1B, which they did so after two years of employment under STEM-OPT work authorization. My employer started putting together my I-140 (Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker, which is the start of the process for an employment-based green card) shortly after receiving approval of my H-1B. As the paperwork was being put together, my partner and I decided to get married and I switched from employment-based green card to marriage-based green card. The employment-based green card would have added around a 3 year wait if we went through with it, while my marriage-based green card was approved in less than a year.
Both my siblings are currently in the same pathway. One received their Bachelors last year, was hired before graduation and has recently received approval for her H-1B. Their employer has committed to sponsoring their employment-based green card next year. My other sibling received their MFA last year and is now in the process of getting their O-1, which is a different kind of work visa. Like me, they both came to the US with a student visa. We were all very strategic about the programs we chose and how we approached networking within our industries.
We also prepared for years. I knew I wanted to get my Masters and permanently reside in the US even before I finished college in Manila. My siblings also knew that early on. So as a family we planned for years, including preparing financially because we knew that we had a very slim chance of getting free rides for our planned degrees. Our early planning also helped with our professional decision-making, because we became very strategic about what kinds of jobs we took after graduation in Manila (except our youngest sibling, who did her Bachelors in the US, so her planning revolved around her academic career in high school). I would say from start (initial planning) to finish (with the last sibling also now on the way to permanent residency), it took about a decade.

GETTING STARTED

Is the student pathway the right pathway for you?
The first question you should ask yourself: can you afford the student pathway to permanent residency in the US? Higher education in the US is not cheap. Universities very rarely offer full scholarships to Masters programs, and those that do are incredibly competitive. So you cannot depend on scholarships to help you pay for your degree--doing so will likely end in disappointment.
(PhDs are usually free and includes a living stipend, but the application process for PhDs are on a whole other level. I will not cover it here but I can answer any questions related to applying for PhDs.)
Most Masters programs in the US are two-year programs, and the average cost of a Masters degree is around $60,000 per year (source). That's $120,000--almost Php7,000,000--in two years. That is a lot of money. That does not include your cost of living, which depending on the location can vary. I personally spent around $1000 on living expenses every month (housing was through the school, so the cost of that was included in my tuition statement)--and that is living frugally in a very high cost of living city. That's an additional $12,000 per year. Of course, you can lower than number by living with family if that option is available to you.
So on average, you would need around Php4,200,000 per year for your Masters degree. Again, a lot of money. It goes without saying that the student pathway is a very expensive pathway to permanent residency in the US. Can it also be a quicker pathway than, say, being sponsored by a sibling? It can be, but that depends on how long it will take for you to save up for tuition.
What if you can make those numbers work? What else should you know?
I need to put this upfront: the F-1 student visa is a non-immigrant visa. Meaning that it is a visa meant for people who will enter the US on a temporary basis. This is why the student visa has no direct pathway or benefit to permanent residency in the US. You need to change status inside the US to one with immigrant intent or double intent to be able to be on that pathway or receive that benefit. That's where visas like the H-1B visa comes in.
You also cannot work outside of your school on an F-1 visa. During the school year, you are allowed to work part-time on campus, and during the summer you are allowed to work full-time on campus. Work outside of the school is only allowed if it's part of your curriculum (i.e. your program has a class for "onsite internship") and you are allowed to be paid while that opportunity is going on. You can do this part-time, but most legitimate universities will have limited opportunities for this (i.e. under your program you're only allowed to take credit for onsite internships one or two semesters). However, your eligibility to work full-time after getting your degree will be affected if you do this full-time for one year. If you want to jump from F-1 to H-1B, this is not something you want to do.
Your ability to bring dependents to the US on a student visa is also limited. You can only bring your spouse and unmarried children under 21. Dependents of F-1 visa holders are not allowed to work in the US (although children under 21 can go to school full-time). This means your spouse cannot work while in the United States, and that includes working remotely for a company in the Philippines.

APPLYING TO PROGRAMS

The student visa still seems like my best option. What's next?
The next step starts with you. I've received a good number of DMs asking me "Is Master of ABC the right course for me?" or "Will a Master of DEF get me a green card?" These are not the right questions to ask because they're not going to get you any good answers. Yes, we know the ultimate goal for taking your Masters in the US to get permanent residency. But the true purpose of getting a Masters in the US is to make you highly marketable and competitive to US employers that will be willing to sponsor your work visa and petition you for your permanent residency.
So you need to view this degree as a way to level yourself up professionally. I absolutely do not suggest getting a Masters degree in something "you already know"--the objective is not to coast while spending Php4,200,000 a year--but to be so much better at what you're already doing. Here's an example.
Maria Clara graduated from Accounting at a good university in Manila and now has around 2 years of experience as a CPA at the finance and accounting department at a multinational corporation based in Makati. She wants to get her permanent residency to the US via the student pathway and has done a significant amount of research on possible Masters programs and career paths in accounting in the US. She started reading into forensic accounting and realized how interested she is in various aspects of this career path. After looking through universities and programs, she has put SUNY Albany's MS in Forensic Science at the top of her list for a variety of reasons. One, it meets the education requirements for certified public accountant licensure in the state of New York. Two, even without a scholarship of financial aid, the costs for international students is not exorbitant at $23,000/Php1,320,000 for the year-long program--with some frugal living and help from relatives in the US, she can save that amount in 3-4 years. Three, New York is the center of global commerce--all the biggest companies and their accounting firms are either headquartered or have large offices in New York City, so she has a wide swath of employment options. Now she just has to get her ducks in a row and make sure her Bachelors meets the requirements for application, as well as put together a shortlist of other programs she should apply and create a timeline for herself and the milestones that need to be hit to make this dream a reality.
Bottomline is, your starting point in this entire process is reflection and research. You need to reflect on your own professional experience and skills, as well as your interests. You need to figure out which pathway will give you that professional and technical boost and do your research on available programs at reputable universities, what the job market looks like for your target profession, which companies are known to hire in this space.
Of course, you should also take into consideration your limitations. For example, you can only go to school in San Diego because you can stay with relatives while you're studying. That means your research is location-limited to however far you think you can commute.
When this is properly done, it should lead you to a place where you have a shortlist of programs to apply to. Each program will have their own application and testing requirements, as well as their own deadlines, so make sure to keep track of that.
PRO TIP: while grades during college are an important part of your application, many graduate programs put a lot of weight on your personal statement and professional recommendation letters. This is why the first step on reflection is critical--it gives you a good direction from which to build your story, which you will need to convince admissions committees to accept you into their programs.

ACCEPTANCE

I got into one of my top programs and I have my finances in order! What happens now?
Now it's time to apply for your F-1 visa. Your university will provide you with the documentation you need from them (this is mainly the I-20 and your acceptance letter), but the bulk of the documentation you need to present to the visa officer will mostly come from you. Namely, because the F-1 is a non-immigrant visa, you need to show strong ties to the Philippines. This can take a variety of forms, and oftentimes your mileage may vary especially depending on the school you will be attending (i.e. there will be less scrutiny if you're going to Harvard as compared to a university that's not that known).
If you did not receive a scholarship with your acceptance, you also need to show that you are able to afford the first year of matriculation. So bank statements containing the total amount of tuition, as well as room and board, will be important (usually the I-20 that the university will issue you will include this amount).
At the interview, be polite and only answer the questions asked. Do not offer up information not asked by the visa officer. I suggest you have a ready answer if the visa officer asks you why this particular school and program, but you should have this answer already if you followed my advice about reflecting and researching before applying to programs :)
Visa is approved and on hand! What do I do while I wait to leave for the US?
Networking starts the moment you receive your passport with your F-1 visa. You absolutely cannot and should not waste a single minute of your active student visa, so this is the time you start telling people that you're going to be studying in the US. You need to work your current network and find peers and mentors who will be willing to connect you with colleagues they know who work in the US or have ties to the US in your professional field. Let's go back to Maria Clara as an example.
Finally, after years of hard work, Maria Clara has her desired acceptance into SUNY's MS in Forensic Accounting program, and her F-1 visa was approved by the embassy without any issues. After celebrating with her family, she lets her boss know about her visa approval, who has been one of her most ardent cheerleaders during this entire process. Her boss has also offered to introduce her to their counterparts in the US once she got her visa approved, which is really important to Maria Clara--she knows she needs to get ahead of networking professionally since her time in the US is limited. She has also reached out to other people she knows in the company that engage frequently with teams in the US. She's messaged her college professors as well, as she knows that a number of alumni from her college have migrated to the US. Her plan is to get connected with as many professionals in her field as possible, connect with them in person once she's in the US, and build a rapport with as many connections as possible so she can be guided accordingly and stand out when the time to apply for jobs comes.
Remember that unlike US citizens (USC) and legal permanent residents (LPR), your time in the US is limited and bound by the rules set by your visa. So you have to be creative and get ahead in some way. You need to be more prepared and more strategic than USCs and LPRs because you simply do not have the time to dilly dally. Yes, enjoy and savor in the moment of seeing the fruits of your labor, but the hard part begins now. You simply do not have time to waste.

DURING THE PROGRAM

I'm in the US now and working harder than ever! Is there anything more I can do to set myself apart from others?
Other than to make sure you have high grades and you're setting aside time to build professional relationships, it's time to think outside the box. Remember that you are limited by the rules of the F-1 visa, so experiences such as an off-campus summer internship is off limits to you. You will need to find ways to strengthen your resumé that doesn't include working off campus, and that could take many forms. One of the most effective recommendations I've received on this is to do an independent research during the summer--you could do it via a professor whose class you really liked, or if you've made inroads with some of the connections you've been building since getting your visa, have a professor oversee a research project you could do with those connections. (This is still academic work, and many programs will give credit for this, so it is not considered off-campus work under the eyes of USCIS.) You can use your research to really elevate your skills and experiences when applying for jobs.
It's also time to seriously start looking at potential employers. You can use the connections you've built to get a sense of what the professional landscape is for your field, learn about peoples' experiences at various companies and organizations, and get a feel for hiring processes. Remember, you don't have a lot of time to apply for jobs once you near the end of your program, so you have to be armed with the right information to guide your job hunting strategy. You will need to put yourself out there and be the best version of your professional self if you want employers to disregard that they will need to spend more money to hire you rather than a USC or LPR who doesn't need sponsorship.

LAST SEMESTER AND GRADUATION

I'm in my last semester of my program! Any tips?
The last semester is usually job hunting season, so make sure that resumé is polished and your network is activated. By now, if you've done the leg work, you will have a shortlist of potential employers and you will have made connections in most, if not all, of them. Time to check-in and ensure that they know you're interested in joining their company and you'd like their support and guidance in doing so. This is one of the harder parts of this journey, and you have to be relentless. Use all the resources at your disposal to ensure your resumé is seen by as many eyes as possible, and that includes speaking to your professors, especially your favorite ones, so they can also lend a hand.
More importantly: submit your work permit application (more commonly known as OPT) as early as possible to avoid delays and getting stuck in the USCIS backlog. You need this permit to be able to work after graduation for a limited time (one year for graduates of non-STEM programs, with an additional two years for graduates of STEM programs) without needing to immediately require H-1B sponsorship.
Getting employed by a company willing to sponsor you is not the end of the line. All for-profit companies are subject to the H-1B lottery, which means you will be competing with other internationals for the limited number of H-1B visas allotted every year. So even with an employer willing to sponsor, the H-1B visa is still not guaranteed. You can work around this by joining what is a called a cap-exempt organization instead, and USCIS classifies those as institutions of higher education, nonprofit entities related to or affiliated with an institution of higher education, nonprofit research organizations, and governmental research organizations. That means more research, and more targeted strategic networking, given that your employer pool now is limited.

EPILOGUE

The student visa is not an easy or cheap pathway to permanent residency in the US. It is getting harder and harder to beat out USCs and LPRs for great jobs in companies that have the experience and resources to sponsor H-1Bs and GCs. You need to do your research every step of the way and prepare to do some really grueling work in order to be the better investment for these companies. Plus, there is the luck element of the H-1B lottery. But it's not impossible. It can and does happen--my family is a great example of it (we're 3 for 3 in this pathway now). Your preparation and willingness to go the extra mile is critical, and you have to be ready to grind for a while. Rest often only comes when the green card is approved.
For those still considering the student visa pathway to migrate to the US after reading this very long post--good luck, and may the force be with you.

2024.05.29 06:30 Big-Draw-5245 Women aren't having kids because men (on average) suck and women are still dealing with misogyny

Before everyone comes at me 'NoT aLL MeN' yada yada yada yes some men are good fathers, good husbands ect. There are also women who aren't satisfactory spouses or parents and who abuse people. However my experience and the statistics themselves paint an abysmal picture of men and this is a thread about why women are choosing to avoid men and are increasingly choosing to be single and childfree. If you are one of the men who does the bare minimum I won't be patting you on the back. If you are one of the men who does the bare minimum then this thread wasn't created to complain about you. You can either back me up or move along.
I'm not going to go into too much detail about my personal life but I have kids. I enjoy being a mom, it's the best thing I have done and I don't regret my decision. I have always respected childfree people and their decision but I never understood why they felt that way, I just thought that they had no instinct to have kids and that might be the case for some of them, however I'm really starting to understand an even bigger elephant in the room and I would guess that a lot of it has to do with the state of men and the fact that women are increasingly walking away from relationships because they no longer want to be a maid, hooker, nanny and servant. Women want equality and equity and they aren't getting it. Women work more hours on average than men if you include family responsibilities and domestic tasks and not just paid employment. Women are also still being paid less. We haven't reached the degree of equity needed so that women can have multiple children and further her career. Women already have to work harder than men to achieve the same goals. Women still have to face systematic misogyny and becoming a mother inevitably increases the misogyny women are subjected to in the form of idealized motherhood. Women are held to higher moral standards than men and men get away with lackluster parenting because people expect them to be incompetent. If a man 'babysits' the child for a few hours over the weekend everyone pats him on the back. Men just have to do the bare minimum and they get a trophy. For the first time in history women finally have choices and more and more of them are opting out when it comes to having anything to do with men.
The statistics surrounding men paint a frightening picture. I will provide links here

The prevalence and seriousness of incestuous abuse: Stepfathers vs. biological fathers
According to this study a whopping 1 in 6 stepfathers are nonces and 1 in 40 women are sexually abused by their biological fathers. To make things even more shocking these numbers are underestimated, since the study only highlights women, it doesn't cover men who were sexually abused as boys by their male parental figure. Considering the fact that 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused by the age of 16 and some of those abusers are male parental figures, the numbers are even higher than this study suggests.

Violence against women and girls – what the data tells us
https://liveprod.worldbank.org/en/data-stories/overview-of-gender-based-violence
Domestic violence perpetrators - women vs men
women’s violence usually occurs in the context of violence against them by their male partners; (b) in general, women and men perpetrate equivalent levels of physical and psychological aggression, but evidence suggests that men perpetrate sexual abuse, coercive control, and stalking more frequently than women and that women also are much more frequently injured during domestic violence incidents; (c) women and men are equally likely to initiate physical violence in relationships involving less serious “situational couple violence,” and in relationships in which serious and very violent “intimate terrorism” occurs, men are much more likely to be perpetrators and women victims; (d) women’s physical violence is more likely than men’s violence to be motivated by self-defense and fear, whereas men’s physical violence is more likely than women’s to be driven by control motives; (e) studies of couples in mutually violent relationships find more negative effects for women than for men
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2968709/
When you look at men as a whole group an unfortunate number of them do not make suitable husbands and fathers.
You can't blame women for 'picking wrong' when the statistics are this terrible. Now women have had the choice, they have had enough of men.
So what do you even suggest? Get all the 'good' men with emotional intelligence, kindness and integrity and allow them to take multiple wives? Make it easier for women to exist as single mothers? Because men as a group are failing women and children and enforced monogamy means that a high proportion of women and children will suffer abuse.
Because at this point, if I were a single woman, I would rather SHARE a husband that was a decent person or be single as opposed to having a pool of potential predators and abusers to choose from. That's how bad men are.

2024.05.29 06:30 mardian-octopus Can I dispute my medical bills on the basis of not given the right information?

Hi everyone,
I need some advice. I just recently visited my primary care to establish care. During the visit, I was asked to do some blood work. I checked with the nurse, if it will be fully covered by my insurance, they told me that it will be, as part of the preventive care. I even asked them twice.
I then agreed to proceed, only to find out couple weeks later I am now being charged for the that. I called my insurance to clarify, they told me that it is not covered because I was a new patient, the full coverage only applies for established patients. They said it is correctly billed.
My question is: is there any way I can dispute this? I feel like I'm not given the right information, and I only agreed to do the blood work based on the information given to me that it will be covered. I would have declined if they told me otherwise (I was even asked to check for some markers for previous medical condition that I had, and I declined when I was told it is not part of the coverage). I just feel this is very ridiculous, because I did not have any concern or I need my blood tested.
Am I at fault here? if I am supposed to pay because I was a new patient, I think the nurse should have told me that, as they knew I came as a new patient. Unless if I did not ask.
Can anyone suggest what I should do? Thanks.

As I was scouring the market for a stylish picatinny sling mount, I stumbled across the Allen Citadel Tactical QD Picatinny to QD Black 10846. I was immediately drawn to its sleek design and time-tested rugged manufacturing. The black aesthetic blended perfectly with my weapon and added an authentic touch to my outfit.
The fast QD design for M Lok handguards was a game-changer for me. It made it incredibly easy to detach and reattach my weapon as needed. The use of the push button QD swivel allowed for a smooth and secure attachment to my weapon, without causing any damage to the sling mount. It was like having a reliable and efficient partner by my side during my outdoor adventures.
However, I did notice that the Allen Citadel Tactical QD Picatinny to QD Black 10846 was a bit bulky, which made it slightly more challenging to store when not in use. While this was not a major issue, it would have been great if the designers had found a way to make it more compact.
Overall, this Allen sling mount proved to be a reliable and functional companion during my adventures. Its black finish complemented the look of my weapon and made it stand out without being too ostentatious. I appreciate the fast QD design as well as the push button QD swivel. Despite the slight inconvenience of its bulkiness, this Allen Citadel Tactical QD Picatinny to QD Black 10846 is well-suited for outdoors enthusiasts and gun lovers alike.

🔗45-Degree Offset Rail Mount for Tactical Accessories

Imagine you're in the heat of the moment, aiming down the sights of your rifle, trying to take out a target from around the corner. This is where the NcSTAR Mount shines. Its 45-degree offset angle allows you to mount your lasers, flashlights, or red dot sights at just the right angle for a clear view down the barrel.
The offset canted design of the mount adds a level of versatility that's not often found in other mounts. It eliminates interference with vertical grips, hand guards, optics, and other accessories, making it perfect for a wide range of uses. Plus, the ergonomic design gives easy access to on/off switches for your accessories, which is a game-changer when you're in the thick of it.
But let's not forget the solid construction. The NcSTAR Mount is made from hard-anodized aluminum, which not only adds strength to the mount but also makes it resistant to corrosion. And the single-slotted thumb nut secures the mount to Weaver Style or Picatinny rails quickly and easily.
The NcSTAR Mount isn't just a device, it's a tool that could give you the edge you need in tense situations. It's a reliable, solid piece of equipment that's easy to use and a pleasure to work with. And the reviews from other users certainly back this up - they've praised its quality, price, and performance. So, if you're looking for a reliable, dependable, and versatile mount, the NcSTAR Mount is definitely worth considering.

🔗Specialized Swat Black Computer Mount for Lightweight SWAT Tool Kit

https://preview.redd.it/4tcq4bpgma3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d6c96e95acc87a374c2238c1ebe3c124f92877d
I had the chance to try out the Granite Tool Design Scope Computer Mount, specifically made for Specialized SWAT Black bikes. When I first received it, I was intrigued by how lightweight this mount was, weighing just 15g. It certainly didn't slow me down during my rides.
One of the unique features of this mount is that it's easy to install at home without needing any specialist tools. Plus, it didn't interfere with the SWAT system, which is a definite plus! However, one downside I noticed was the compatibility - it's only made for Specialized bikes with the SWAT concealed transport tool kit.
Overall, the Granite Tool Design Scope Computer Mount is a good choice for those looking for a lightweight, easy-to-install mount for their computer on their Specialized bike. If you don't fit the compatibility criteria, it might not be worth it for you.

🔗Sons of Liberty Quick Detach M-LOK QD Socket

https://preview.redd.it/qc24co4hma3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d5f0984cdb51a9dca0efcbe6996645c42f158e8
I've been using the Solgw Aluminum M-LOK QD Socket Black for my sling and it has become my go-to accessory. The sleek black finish adds a touch of sophistication, while the lightweight yet strong design ensures that it won't fail me when I need it most.
The positive lock up mechanism allows me to secure it with confidence, even in the roughest terrain. However, the one downside I've noticed is that it can be a bit tricky to attach or detach at times due to the QD mechanism. Overall, this socket has proven to be a reliable addition to my daily gear setup.

🔗Explore Scientific Mini Scope Mount for Telescopes

https://preview.redd.it/hd7mh5hhma3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dedad265807a1399d8d7f3ff385ab0d0d8b6798
As a stargazing enthusiast, I recently tried the Explore Scientific Finder Scope Base and was astounded by how convenient and reliable it was. It's the perfect addition to any telescope, providing a stable base for mounting the finder scope of your choice.
The highlight of this product, for me, was the ease of installation. It literally took me a few minutes to set it up, thanks to the provided mounting screws. The knurled knobs on the base really make locking the finder into place a breeze.
However, it's not all smooth sailing. One inconvenience was the lack of lock washers in the box which, although not a deal-breaker, would have been a nice addition for added security.
Overall, the Explore Scientific Finder Scope Base was a pleasant surprise in terms of functionality and ease. Despite a minor hiccup, it's a winner in my book for those who enjoy stargazing and want their equipment to be secure and robust.

🔗Reptilia Flat Dark Earth 34mm Mini 14 Scope Mount

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Reptilia Aus Mount, a 34mm scope mount with a Flat Dark Earth finish. This bad boy boasts an anodized finish that adds a touch of durability and style to your setup. The mount is designed for a bore height of 100-155, making it a versatile choice for various rifles.
Using the Reptilia Aus Mount in my daily life has been a breeze. The sleek design fits seamlessly with my Mini 14 setup, and the secure locking mechanism ensures that the scope stays firmly in place. One thing that stood out to me was the anodized finish, which not only looks great but also provides protection against the elements.
However, there were a couple of minor drawbacks. Firstly, the installation process could have been a bit easier, especially for beginners. And secondly, the price point might be a bit steep for some users.
All in all, if you're looking for a high-quality scope mount with a stylish finish and great durability, the Reptilia Aus Mount is definitely worth considering. Just make sure you're comfortable with the installation process and are willing to invest in a top-tier product.

🔗5.5" Quick Detach Scope Mount for Aimpoint Micro Footprint

I've been using the Reptilia ROF-90 for a while now, and let me tell you, it has made a real difference in my shooting experience. This quick detach scope mount fits seamlessly with the Aimpoint Micro footprint and even works perfectly for my 30mm optic. The anodized black finish not only looks sleek but also blends well with my rifle's overall appearance.
It's amazing how much it enhances my accuracy on the range. The only drawback I found was that it felt a bit heavier than some other mounts, but overall, it's a small price to pay for the added stability it provides during my shots.

🔗Quick-Transition 30mm QD Optic Mount

https://preview.redd.it/b645drwima3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c20af691a142c7d8813b03fed58954964447ccfb
Whenever I hit the range with my trusty Super Precision 30mm optic mount, I've grown to rely on the Reptilia ROF-90 30mm APNT Micro. With its drop-in upgrade, I've found it a reliable addition for my tactical setup. This 30mm quick detach scope mount offers a mounting point at 90 degrees, allowing for a swift transition to my AIMPOINT Micro when I need to engage at close range.
It's a versatile piece of gear that's never let me down.

🔗High-Quality 30mm QD Scope Mount with Anodized Finish

https://preview.redd.it/rwvi4lljma3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2aea9d64af5a4ae197e9096efe050b5556d312c4
AUS Mount from Reptilia, for 30mm diameter magnified optics, is a beautifully crafted piece of machinery. This product is the result of a 2-year development program and it truly shows in its design and functionality. The finish, an Anodized Flat Dark Earth, gives it a sleek look that blends well with various M1913 Picatinny rails it can be attached to.
This AUS Mount stands out due to the custom bolt mounting system with an anti-snag, spring-loaded, nitrided steel clamp. The clamp can be tightened using either a 5/32 hex or a flat blade driver for a low-profile, streamline design. The single piece of billet 7075-T6 aluminum, which it is made from, is further enhanced with the MIL-STD Type III Class 2 hard anodize coating.
The AUS Mount is compatible with all of Reptilia's existing 30mm ROF line and will also work with several new ROF products launching soon. Despite its robust build and advanced tech, it is surprisingly lightweight and compatible with different optic configurations.
While there is no denying the AUS Mount's capabilities and aesthetic appeal, users might still find the price a bit steep. Overall, this product is worth the price tag for those who prioritize high precision, durability, and a stylish touch in their magnified optics.

🔗Precision Scope Mounting Kit for Marlin 336

https://preview.redd.it/ozkhbzjkma3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32fa05013864f1720995d1a72ab1c78ab95257b6
I recently had the chance to try out the Wheeler Scope Mounting Kit Combo, and I must say, it provided a smooth experience while mounting my scope. The highlight feature that stood out for me was the "F. A. T. Wrench Torque Screwdriver" – it allowed me to tighten screws with a precision that I haven't experienced before. The wrench-bit set was easy to use, and the 10 bits provided made it a versatile tool for any mounting setup.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks that I encountered during my experience. The level-level-level didn't quite live up to my expectations. Although it was functional, it could have been more precise, making it easier to achieve a level scope. Additionally, the plastic case for the set was a bit flimsy, which wasn't ideal for storage and transport.
Overall, the Wheeler Scope Mounting Kit Combo proved to be a helpful tool for securing and aligning my scope. While there were a few issues, such as the subpar level and case quality, the positive aspects like the F. A. T. Wrench Torque Screwdriver made it a worthwhile investment.

🔗High-Quality 30mm Quick-Detach Scope Mount

https://preview.redd.it/tnxiehwkma3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9ec6425a18a33e8c36cb6cfa1bf8040619fcba1
As a hunter, I often find myself in need of a durable and adaptable scope mount. Recently, I stumbled across the Samson Rapid Precision Mount, a 30mm Qd Scope Mount by Samson Manufacturing Corp. This black beauty grabbed my attention, and I decided to give it a try.
Upon first glance, I was impressed by its sleek design and solid construction. Easily attaching to my rifle, it proved to be a reliable addition to my hunting gear. Its adjustable height was a game-changer, allowing for a clear and accurate view of my targets. However, I did notice a minor issue when adjusting the elevation - it felt slightly sticky.
Despite this minor hiccup, the Samson Rapid Precision Mount exceeded my expectations in terms of durability and flexibility. Its ability to lock securely in place while still being easy to adjust made it a well-rounded contender for any hunting expedition. However, those with tight budgets may find their wallets reluctant to part ways with the premium price tag.
Overall, the Samson Rapid Precision Mount is a top-notch choice for hunters seeking a robust and adjustable 30mm Qd Scope Mount. Despite the minor issue with the adjustment, this versatile mount has proven to be a reliable companion on my hunting adventures.

As a reviewer, I tested the Trijicon Cantilever Mount, Q-Loc, 30mm, Anodized Finish, Black, 1.93" Bore Height AC22051. It impressed me right off the bat with its sleek black anodized finish, which perfectly blended with my riflescope.
This mount is solid and secure, providing a dependable hold even when I took aim under recoil. Yet, it stands out for its quick-release function. With a simple quarter-turn motion, I was able to detach and re-attach it effortlessly.
The Q-Loc feature makes it incredibly convenient for frequent adjustments or storage. The Trijicon Cantilever Mount does have one downside: it's slightly heavier than some of its competitors. But overall, it was a reliable and functional addition to my setup.

I recently tried out this versatile PH Adapter Mount Clip Bracket for my photography needs. The durable and stable rubber holder allowed me to easily switch between different mobile devices, and its size adjustability was quite helpful.
One thing that stood out was the curved groove design, which effectively stabilized my mobile phone while preventing it from getting stuck. The shielding design connected to the tripod helped avoid light leakage, which is a crucial factor in photography.
The wide range of application made it suitable not only for spotting scopes and binoculars but also for field observation and appreciation. The adjustable focus and tightness made it easy to imagine and use in various situations. While the ABS material is solid, it's essential to note that there might be slight errors due to manual measurement and monitors.
Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it to others looking for a stable, versatile option for their photography needs.

When buying a 30mm QD scope mount, you ought to consider the size and weight that will not negatively impact your weapon's balance or the overall functionality of the scope mount. A lightweight yet sturdy mount will not affect your rifle's accuracy or weight distribution, making your experience with the scope mount more comfortable. Make sure you check the specs provided by the manufacturers to ensure the mount is light enough for your liking and still provides the required stability for your scope.

Durability

A 30mm QD scope mount needs to be built with durability in mind. This means that you should look for mounts made of quality materials that will withstand the rigors of outdoor usage, provide consistent accuracy, and have a good level of resistance to wear and tear, giving you value for money. Opt for mounts that are designed with precision engineering and made from materials such as aluminum, steel, or titanium, which offer durability and reliability.

Compatibility

Before purchasing a 30mm QD scope mount, it is crucial to verify that it is compatible with your desired scope, rifle, and turret assembly. Check the manufacturer's specifications or consult with a knowledgeable person to ensure it fits your firearm correctly and securely. This will help prevent scope creep and maintain the scope's zero setting while in use.

Ease of Use

The best 30mm QD scope mount is one that is easy to install, remove, and adjust your scope. Look for mounts with Quick-Detach (QD) mechanisms that enable a swift and simple action without requiring any tools, thus reducing setup time and increasing convenience. This would save you time and effort, especially if you frequently switch between scopes or need to use different weapons.

Price

The price of a 30mm QD scope mount depends on factors such as the materials used, design, brand reputation, and additional features. Set a budget that suits your requirements and preferences, but do not compromise on the quality of the mount. Research various brands and models to compare prices and features, as this will help you make a more informed decision.

Additional Features

Some 30mm QD scope mounts come with additional features and customization options, such as adjustable cant or windage dials, which can further enhance accuracy. Other features, such as anti-glare or fog-resistant coatings, can improve visibility in outdoor conditions. Consider these extra features when selecting your mount to optimize its performance and suitability for your hunting or shooting activities.
By following this buyer's guide and weighing the importance of crucial features for a 30mm QD scope mount, you will have a comprehensive understanding when choosing the perfect mount for your needs. FAQ

How do I choose the right 30mm Qd Scope Mount for my needs?

The first step is to consider the type of shooting or hunting you will be doing with your rifle scope. Various 30mm Qd Scope Mounts are designed for different purposes. Mounts designed for tactical shooting usually have sturdy, rugged construction, while those made for long-range shooting often feature adjustable height and tilt. If you plan on using the scope for both purposes, look for a versatile mount with a lot of adjustment options.

What is the main difference between 30mm Qd Scope Mounts and 1-inch scope mounts?

The main difference is the diameter of the scope ring. The 30mm diameter suits larger rifle scopes with larger objectives, which can provide a wider field of view and better light gathering capabilities. On the other hand, a 1-inch scope mount is more suitable for smaller rifle scopes, which are typically preferred for shorter-ranged target shooting or hunting.

What is the difference between "Quick Detach" and "Permanent" 30mm Qd Scope Mounts?

Quick Detach (QD) mounts allow the scope to be easily removed from the rifle, which can be convenient for switching scopes or during transportation. These mounts use a lever or knob to release the scope from the rifle. In contrast, Permanent mounts are designed to be fixed in place and are not meant to be removed without disassembling the scope mount.

What are some features to look for in a high-quality 30mm Qd Scope Mount?

  • Rugged construction: A good scope mount should be able to withstand recoil and outdoor conditions without getting damaged or breaking.
  • Adjustable height and tilt: If you plan on using the scope for long-range shooting, it helps to have adjustable height and tilt features to make sighting in easier and more accurate.
  • Easy-to-use locking mechanisms: The mount should have a secure locking mechanism that allows quick detachment without the need for extra tools.
  • High-quality materials: Look for mounts made from materials such as aircraft-grade aluminum or steel, which can provide strength and durability.

Are there any downsides to using a 30mm Qd Scope Mount?

While there are many benefits to using a 30mm Qd Scope Mount, they can be heavier and bulkier compared to 1-inch scope mounts. This can be an issue for shooters who value portability or need to travel light, as extra weight can affect the overall balance and handling of the rifle. Additionally, high-quality 30mm Qd Scope Mounts can be more expensive than 1-inch scope mounts.

2024.05.29 06:30 pearldeluna I love my father as a father but not as a dad

Okay so bit of backstory, my father is definition of rags to riches. He's very classist and i[16f] take after him, both physically and ideologically. I've learned lots from him.
And ik he loves he and i do feel his love but he's just not the best dad. I am youngest child so i am the scapegoat of the family. Times and times i've found myself sacrificing my own feelings so that it won't ruin others mood. Which has now became a habit by now. I choose not to speak about my feelings because i am afraid it would ruin others mood. My sister and i have a 6 year age gap and my father wanted her to fulfill his dream, the one which he couldn't achieve due to lack of funds and his parents not being supportive. She failed and failed so she had to take a different route. But they invested lots of time in her and sorta forgot me. I had to sort things out for myself. I had to all the cleaning, dishes, laundry and cooking because my sister all of them would be ar work. I am doing this since last year but now i don't because we have maids as my academic year is starting next week.
This happened recently i was shifted to my sister's room because my grandmother (his mom) who is pretty bed ridden was shifted there so that my grandmother and my grandmother's caretaker would use it. He did not even asked me if i wanted to leave, i was told and shifted. Last weekend he and my mom forced to go to some baby shower where i did not wanted to go but i only went so that my mom won't feel awkward there. Again, i disregard my feelings and forced myself out of house. When we came back and i was telling how it was being he asked. He called me dumb saying idk how to answer. That too in a solmen tone not a teasing one.
Last night i was making coffee because i kinda need it before night idky i just need it. He yelled at me saying it wasn't the time. I do get his point because surely it was late and i would usually sit in my parents room after making my coffee because my sister would be sleeping in hers. They need to wake up early. He started saying how selfish i was to not think that they need to wake up around 4 and they would get less sleep because yk if i sit there i would switch on lights.
Now i do understand him and know i was wrong. I may have overlooked their side and he could've told that to me. There was no need to yell. But to call me selfish is just outrageous. Tbh i just kept quite let him yell at me. My parents do fight infront of me and my siblings, i've witnessed more of it because it was in early days and during those times she would've either been at school or busy.
Ik i am traumatized to a point where someone yells at me i cannot look at them in eye, i feel panicked and stuff. But when yesterday my father yelled at me, sure i felt terrible but also idk i just felt nothing. Younger me would've panicked but these times now i get yelled i just don't feel anything. Mind you this year is very important for me academically so if i won't get good grads i will be yelled at and i am just desperately clinging onto the hope that i get good consistent marks this year so i leve.
This was just a rant i needed to do because i am afriad of opening up to my frnds and potentially burdening them with my problems when they are all burnt out sm academically rn. Idk if he gave me daddy issues (i guessing yes) but yeah i just want to leave asap.
