2024.05.15 11:29 Mottiiiiiiiiiii Storage metadata

Hey,
I'm wondering how to add metadata to files in Supabase Storage. Is this even possible? I can find a few code snippets on the internet where there is a metadata field for storage. However, this does not work for me. Could it be that this function has been removed? If so, how do you deal with metadata for files? For example, if I want to add tags or categories to images. Do I really have to manually create an extra table with a reference to the file?
Thanks, Adrian.

2024.05.15 10:59 Lord_PanDA_ How to Control Your Roku With an LG TV Remote

How to Control Your Roku With an LG TV Remote
After a lot of testing with my LG Magic Remote and Roku Ultra & Roku Express 4K+, I've put together a guide on how to seamlessly control your Roku with an LG TV remote.
NOTE: If you’re looking for a more detailed step-by-step guide complete with demo images, just check out the hyperlink under the section's name.
Can LG Magic Remote Control Roku?
Yes, the LG Magic Remote can control a Roku device using infrared (IR) technology, as long as the Roku is connected to an LG TV.
This setup allows basic navigation like volume control and switching between channels, but lacks some specific Roku remote functions like the Asterisk (*) button for more detailed app interactions.
Connecting Your Roku to the LG TV:
It's straightforward: just ensure both devices are powered and connected via HDMI (or directly insert a Roku Stick). Switch your LG TV's input to where Roku is connected, and you're all set to use your LG remote for Roku controls.
Mapping LG Magic Remote Buttons to Roku Functions:
You'll get basic command functionality with your LG Magic Remote on Roku. However, for actions like fast-forward or rewind, you'll need to use the center scroll button instead of the usual fast-forward and rewind buttons. It's a little workaround but still functional.
Alternative Way: Use the Roku Mobile App:
If your setup doesn't support an LG Magic Remote or if you prefer more flexibility, the Roku Mobile app is a great alternative.
It works with any Roku device connected to the same Wi-Fi network and offers all the features of a physical remote, plus additional ones like Private Listening and a virtual keyboard.
Full article here: https://pointerclicker.com/can-lg-magic-remote-control-roku/
For anyone trying to simplify their setup or reduce the number of remotes on their coffee table, controlling your Roku device with an LG TV remote is totally doable and effective.
Have you managed to use your LG remote with Roku? What was your experience like? Let's chat in the comments!

Something Does not feel right!? ft. Next.js 14 Server Actions
[Picture 1]: I saw a few youtube tutorials that show this way of adding 'click' handling for 'delete' action on server components using "Server Actions".
If I was using only one button per page, table, or even row it would've been fine. But...[see Picture 2].
[Picture 2]: I just created this kind of functionality to try it out. I added 3 buttons per row, that can be clicked to call different actions.
Problem: I feel like the syntax to do this is... wrong. I was not able to do it with a cleaner syntax, maybe I didn't searched properly. Is there a better way to do this?
Possible Solution(s):> 1: Maybe I should Make the button components 'client side'.
--- Slightly off topic, Is this the reason people are comparing the 'server actions' to 'PHP'?

2024.05.15 10:35 Comfortable-Gur-1603 How do I explain to someone they are being microagressive who doesn't want to understand

I recently had a issue with someone I know. For context, I'm biracial with a black dad and white mom. My mom is super racist towards woman of color. My dad also has his issues with his own race and towards the jewish community. So Ive heard and seen my fair share of racism. Especially even towards me on both sides of my family. So I'm quite sensitive to it.
I was hanging out with my boyfriends mom and she was complaining about her boss. She explaind to me that her boss pays her using cashapp. Which I replied, "That is a bit shady" to which she answered, "Well, he's black. So. " she said sarcastically. I kinda just looked at my boyfriend and raised a eyebrow. What did he being black have to do with any of that? But my mouth shut since I was in her house.
On another occasion. I was expressing my more southern taste in food. I was telling her that I enjoy alot of soul food other people might find a bit off putting. For more context, this is a white family. They only have 1 black member who was adopted in. She proceeded to say, "What? Do we have to start bringing grape koolaid and fried chickens to the functions for you and (black cousins name) ?" Which she laughed at. But I was like, what? Once again, said nothing. Just told my boyfriend in privet it made me uncomfortable.
Finally, I'm over her house again. I was sitting in her dining room table. But her husband was watching this movie from the 90s or 80s. It looked like it was about a white guy teaching africans how to play basketball. It was... what it sounds like. But I didn't pay much mind to it since I think its okay to indulge in dumb movies that havent aged well. No thought into it. Then a scene in the movie starts playing. All the africans start chanting and dancing in a very stereotypical fashion. She proceeded to look at me and go "what?" Then looked over at the tv. She said, "You watching your people up there?" How was I suppose to take that??? So I kinda just sighed and walked out the house and left.
Eventually I did vent and try to talk it out with my boyfriend and his brother. I told them directly, "your mom is microagressive" this did not go over well. As eventually, the brother did bring it up to the mom. He was insulted I called her micro racist. Which I didn't. I don't even think thats a thing. But she was super angry I called her 'racist' since she has a black nephew and has dated black men before. Classic.
But even still, I think they don't know nor understand what it means to be microagressive. That its usually done without any intent or thought. But this whole thing has spiraled out of control. I feel I can't talk to her about because shes too angry about being perceived as racist. She isnt showing any sort of care or wanting to learn or be educated on my perspective.
I can't drop her as much as I would want too because it's my boyfriends mom and he wants me in her life. But because they are not a minority, let alone of mix race. I feel they are very obviously to some of things they say to me. Call me a snow flake, I just don't enjoy those types of jokes.

Transform your outdoor living space into a cosy, stylish retreat with the perfect outdoor rug. Whether you're looking to add a splash of colour to your garden, patio, or balcony, the vast array of designs, sizes, and colours available means there's something to suit every taste and style. Choosing the right rug isn't just about aesthetics; it's also about durability and maintenance. Fortunately, modern outdoor rugs are designed to withstand the harsh South African climate, from the blazing summer sun to unexpected rain showers. They're water-resistant, UV-resistant, and easy to clean, ensuring they remain a vibrant and functional part of your exterior decor year-round. Dive into the world of outdoor rugs and discover how you can enhance your outdoor living space with just a few clicks.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

WHY CHOOSE OUTDOOR RUGS?

When deliberating the aesthetic and functional enhancement of your outdoor living areas, outdoor rugs stand out as an exceptional choice. Integrated with the vivid yet harsh South African landscape, these rugs bring comfort, style, and protection to your patios, decks, and balconies. With an abundance of options available, understanding why to opt for outdoor rugs can guide your decision toward creating a more inviting outdoor space.

VARIETY IN DESIGN AND SIZE

Outdoor rugs come in a vast array of designs, sizes, and colours. Whether you are looking for a large rug to cover extensive areas or a small accent piece, there's something for every space. Favourites like the India Ink outdoor rugs introduce an artistic touch with their unique patterns, embodying both traditional and contemporary designs that sync beautifully with the South African decor ethos.

DURABILITY AND EASY MAINTENANCE

Crafted to withstand the elements, high-quality outdoor rugs are made from durable materials resistant to sun damage, rain, and wear. This resilience ensures that your rug remains vibrant and intact through seasons. Maintenance tips for outdoor rugs usually include simple cleaning steps, making them practically effortless to care for. A quick hose down or a gentle scrub can keep them looking fresh, enabling you to enjoy your outdoor setting without worrying about upkeep.

ECO-FRIENDLINESS

Acknowledging the global shift towards sustainability, many outdoor rugs now feature eco-friendly materials. Choosing these environmentally considerate options not only elevates your outdoor area but also contributes positively to the planet. It's a thoughtful consideration for those who value green living alongside aesthetic appeal.

COMFORT AND PROTECTION

Beyond their decorative appeal, outdoor rugs offer a layer of comfort and protection. They shield your feet from hot or rough surfaces, making outdoor areas more accessible and enjoyable. This comfort encourages you to spend more time outdoors, soaking in the beauty of your garden or enjoying the view from your balcony.
When selecting the best outdoor rugs for your South African home, consider design versatility, durability, maintenance ease, environmental impact, and the comfort they bring to outdoor living. These factors ensure that your chosen rug not only enhances the beauty of your outdoor spaces but also supports a lifestyle that appreciates the outdoors.

SELECTING THE PERFECT OUTDOOR RUG

When you're considering enhancing your outdoor space, particularly in South Africa's unique climate, selecting the perfect outdoor rug becomes crucial. The aim is to combine durability with style, ensuring your garden, patio, or terrace reflects your personal aesthetic while standing up to the local weather conditions.
Start by considering the material. High-quality outdoor rugs, often found in collections like India Ink outdoor rugs, are crafted from materials that resist fading, mildew, and staining, making maintenance a breeze. Materials such as polypropylene or recycled plastic are not only durable but are also eco-friendly, aligning with sustainability principles.
Design plays a fundamental role in your selection process. The best outdoor rugs offer a wide range of styles, from vibrant and bold patterns to more subdued and natural tones, ensuring there's something to match every decor style. Whether you're leaning towards a contemporary look with hip Moroccan-inspired prints or preferring the timeless appeal of natural flatweave designs, there’s a rug to fit your outdoor setting.
Size and shape are also key considerations. Measure your space beforehand to ensure the rug fits well and complements your outdoor furniture arrangement, creating a cohesive look. Round rugs might suit smaller patios, while large rectangular rugs can define seating or dining areas in spacious gardens.
Lastly, think about care and maintenance. Outdoor living in South Africa can be dusty and windy, so opting for easy-to-clean rugs that require minimal maintenance can save you time and effort. Look for rugs that you can simply hose off or wipe clean, keeping your outdoor space looking its best with minimal fuss.
By keeping these factors in mind - material, design, size, shape, and maintenance tips for outdoor rugs - you'll find the perfect rug to enhance the beauty and comfort of your outdoor living space, combining style and functionality seamlessly.

PLACEMENT TIPS FOR OUTDOOR RUGS

Selecting the perfect outdoor rug for your South African home involves not just finding a design that speaks to your style, but also placing it strategically to enhance your outdoor living spaces. Whether you're looking to define a seating area on your patio, add comfort underfoot in a sunny garden spot, or welcome guests with style on your balcony, following these placement tips ensures your outdoor rug serves both functional and aesthetic purposes effectively.
Firstly, consider the focal point of your outdoor space. If you're aiming to create a cosy outdoor living room, position your rug so it anchors your seating area. This not only adds a layer of comfort but also visually ties together your outdoor furniture, creating an inviting atmosphere. For spaces like patios or terraces, make sure the rug is sized appropriately to fit all furniture comfortably, ideally with all legs on the rug to prevent tripping hazards and ensure a cohesive look.
In sunny South African gardens, placing high-quality outdoor rugs under dining tables or in shaded areas can protect your feet from hot surfaces while adding a touch of elegance. Opt for rugs from renowned brands like India Ink Outdoor Rugs, known for their durability and stylish designs, to ensure your outdoor space looks its best throughout the seasons.
For balconies and smaller areas, choosing the best outdoor rug that complements your decor while maximising space is crucial. Round or oval rugs can soften the appearance of square balconies, making the area feel larger and more welcoming. Additionally, maintenance tips for outdoor rugs are paramount; selecting materials such as polypropylene ensures easy cleaning and longevity, essential for the South African climate.
Lastly, to enhance the safety and extend the life of your outdoor rug, consider using a non-slip pad underneath, especially in high-traffic areas or on smooth surfaces. This not only prevents accidents but also protects both the rug and the flooring beneath.
Incorporating these placement and maintenance tips into your outdoor decorating strategy guarantees your outdoor rugs not only elevate the beauty of your South African home but also offer practical benefits, making your outdoor living spaces more enjoyable year-round.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

Maintaining your outdoor rugs in South Africa does not have to be a daunting task, especially when you choose high-quality rugs designed to weather the varying elements. Following specific maintenance tips can ensure your rug remains vibrant and durable, complementing your outdoor space for years to come.
Firstly, reference the manufacturer's cleaning instructions for your rug. High-quality outdoor rugs, such as those from India Ink, often have tailored advice to keep them in prime condition. These guidelines are invaluable for addressing any unique maintenance requirements.
Outdoor rugs are engineered to resist water and dry quickly, thanks to synthetic materials in their construction. However, to extend the lifespan of your garden rug, it's wise to add an extra layer of protection during long bouts of rain or heavy precipitation. Positioning the rug under a covered patio or using a waterproof cover when it's not in use can significantly reduce moisture exposure, keeping the rug in top shape.
Regular cleaning also plays a pivotal role in maintaining the aesthetic and functional integrity of outdoor rugs. A simple routine of shaking off debris, vacuuming, and spot cleaning will prevent dirt accumulation. For more thorough cleaning, a mild detergent mixed with water and a soft brush can remove tougher stains without damaging the rug’s fibres. After washing, ensure the rug is completely dry before placing it back. This prevents mould and mildew growth, which can be detrimental to the rug's condition.
In addition, flipping the rug periodically can prevent uneven wear and sun fading, especially in South Africa’s sunny climates. This practice ensures all parts of the rug face exposure evenly, preserving its colours and structure.
By incorporating these maintenance tips for outdoor rugs into your care routine, you ensure your outdoor living space remains inviting and stylish. Whether it’s a cosy seating area in your patio or a vibrant addition to your balcony, a well-cared-for outdoor rug enhances the charm and functionality of your outdoor settings, making every moment spent outside even more enjoyable.
Choosing the right outdoor rug for your South African home isn't just about style; it's about creating a durable, inviting space that reflects your personal taste while standing up to the local climate. With the right materials, size, and shape, you've got a plethora of options to enhance your outdoor living area. Don't forget the importance of regular maintenance to keep your rug looking its best. By following these simple care tips, you'll ensure your outdoor rug remains a vibrant and practical addition to your home, ready to withstand the elements and daily life. So, go ahead and select a rug that not only complements your outdoor space but also promises longevity and ease of care. Your perfect outdoor setting awaits.

2024.05.15 09:39 Truth-Media-Central Marjorie Taylor Greene proceeds to impeach House Speaker Mike Johnson

This is all about Mike Making a private deal with the president.
House Democrats announce they will bail out House Speaker Mike Johnson if Marjorie Taylor Greene proceeds to impeach him.
Speaker Johnson tries to avoid questions about Marjorie Taylor Greens letter to impeach him. House Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries, Pete Aguilar and Katherine Clark said that the House Democrats are trying to save House Speaker Mike Johnson's speakership. He (Hakeem Jeffries) announced that he would eliminate any efforts to impeach Johnson amid threats from Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and other hardliner Republicans. At this point (Hakeem Jeffries), said "with our national security mission complete", however, what he really meant was "Now that we passed the aid bill for Ukraine, Israel, Indo-Pacific and TikTok" it's time to turn the page he said.
Green said he would move the motion to recall Johnson to the owners "If Democrats want to choose a speaker (and some Republicans want to support a Democratic speaker) , I'll give them a chance. “All Americans see the truth and focus on our elections,” he wrote Tuesday. “Americans deserve to see Fine Gael on full display. I threw them a party! Johnson argued that he needed Democratic support to maintain his position and asked for no other aides at a press conference held shortly after the Democrats' announcement. "I have to do my job," Johnson told reporters. "We must do what we think is right, and what the country needs now is for Congress to act." country," he said, as he sought support to hold the gavel. Johnson said he did not ask for help from Democrats because he was still talking. "I didn't ask anyone who helped," he said. "I don't care about that at all. "I'm committed to getting this done and passing legislation," he said. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who joined Greene earlier this month, told Democrats on CNN: "If you want to get rid of it, Johnson, that's a gift," he said, specifically focusing on our efforts he referred to House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is truly committed. Who should be our enemy now that Mike Johnson is back from Hakeem Jeffries? Meanwhile, Greene did not answer CNN's questions but said, she and Massie would continue to talk about efforts to oust Johnson at a news conference. Democratic leaders announced the decision at the end of the congressional session. House Republicans told CNN that the effort behind the proposal to remove Johnson as speaker "failed." "No, he's dead." Representative. Rep. Kate Carmack, R-Fla., said when asked if there were any threats regarding hotel week. Oklahoma Republican Kevin Hern, who left the House Republicans' weekly meeting before the Democrats' announcement, downplayed a motion to withdraw the threat, telling reporters: "Nobody's talking about it. He met with Greene to withdraw the threat." He said he had not yet discussed his proposal.
House Democrats announce they would save Speaker Mike Johnson if Marjorie Taylor Greene triggers her effort to oust him.
Speaker Johnson tries to dodge reporter’s question about MTG’s motion to oust him. House Democratic leadership announced that Democrats would kill an effort to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson from his position, amid threats from Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and other hardliners.
“At this moment, upon completion of their national security work, the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of Pro-Putin Republican obstruction. We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed,” the leaders wrote in a statement. However, Greene suggested she will move forward with the motion to vacate Johnson in order to put members on the record.
MTG said If the Democrats want to elect him Speaker (and some Republicans want to support the Democrats’ chosen Speaker), I’ll give them the chance to do it, I’m a big believer in recorded votes because it puts Congress on record and that allows every American to see the truth and provides transparency to our votes. Americans deserve to see the Uniparty on full display. I’m about to give them their coming out party she said.
Johnson defended the fact that he needs Democratic support to remain in his job and that he did not request assistance from the other side of the aisle after the Democrats’ announcement.
“I have to do my job,” Johnson told reporters. “We have to do what we believe to be the right thing, what the country needs right now is a functioning Congress.”
When pressed by CNN if he would be comfortable relying on Democratic support to keep the gavel, he said, “You hope you have the support of everyone, the entire country.”
Johnson said he did not request the assistance of Democrats as he hangs on to the speakership. - I’ve not requested assistance from anyone,” he said. “I’m not focused on that at all. I am focused on getting the job done and getting legislation passed, he said.
Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie, joined Greene’s effort, telling CNN that the Democrats’ promise to save Johnson will only help the effort to oust him. If you want to get rid of Johnson, that's a gift, he said, pointing to House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries in particular. That was really a gift to our effort to have Mike Johnson endorsed by Hakeem Jeffries, the person who’s supposed to be our foe?
Meanwhile, Greene would not answer questions from CNN but said that she and Massie would speak more about their effort to oust Johnson at a news conference.
The Democratic leaders announced the decision as House Republicans told CNN that the effort behind the motion to vacate Johnson’s speakership is “dead.”
No, it’s dead,” Republican Rep. Kat Cammack of Florida said when asked if there has been any movement on the threat since the weeklong House recess.
Oklahoma Republican Kevin Hern, exiting the House Republican weekly conference meeting before the Democrats’ announcement, downplayed the motion-to-vacate threats and told reporters, “Nobody is talking about it.

Testing Out Remington's Upgraded 870 Fieldmaster Shotgun
870 Field Master
Hey there fellow shotgun enthusiasts! Have you heard about Remington's latest iteration of the classic 870 pump-action shotgun? They just reintroduced the 870 Fieldmaster with some sweet upgrades over the standard Express model. We're talking a classy walnut stock, sling swivel studs, drilled and tapped receiver, and even three choke tubes right out of the box. All that for just a Benjamin more than the Express. I took this fancy new Fieldmaster out to the range to put some shells through it and see if these upgrades are more than just superficial. The initial impressions are promising - the action cycles smooth as butter and it ejects shells like a champ thanks to the improved barrel and chamber finishing. The walnut stock also gives it a refined look and feel. This is shaping up to be a winner, but stick around as I put it through its paces to see if it holds up over time!

When you first pick up the new Remington 870 Fieldmaster, you'll immediately notice the premium feel. Compared to the 870 Express, the walnut stock and metal finish are a big upgrade. The wood-to-metal fit is tight, and the deep, rich walnut hue gives it a classy look.
870

Smooth Action and Reliable Performance

At the shooting range, the Fieldmaster performed flawlessly. The action is buttery smooth, and shells ejected effortlessly after each shot. The trigger has a clean break, and the recoil pad helps tame some of the kick from the 12-gauge shells. The Fieldmaster comes with three choke tubes (improved cylinder, modified, and full), allowing you to customize your pattern for different types of targets or game. At 25-30 yards, the modified choke tube produced nice, even patterns.

Built to Last

While the Fieldmaster hasn’t been out long enough to determine long-term reliability, if it’s anything like the original 870, it’ll last generations. The receiver is milled from a solid billet of steel, and the barrel has a tough matte blued finish. All components are built to strict tolerances, so you know each part will work together perfectly.
For an additional $100 over the 870 Express, the Fieldmaster is worth the extra coin. You get a shotgun that handles and shoots like a dream, has premium components built to last, and looks like a shotgun that costs twice as much. If you want an affordable, dependable pump-action shotgun, the new 870 Fieldmaster deserves a spot at the top of your list.

How the Fieldmaster Improves on the 870 Express

The biggest thing you'll notice with the Fieldmaster is how smooth the action is compared to the Express. Remington has made improvements to the machining of the barrel and chamber, resulting in shells ejecting effortlessly. The slide glides back and forth without a hitch. For a pump-action shotgun, it's practically silk.

Premium Wood and Metal

The Fieldmaster also upgrades the materials. Instead of the hardwood stock and basic finish of the Express, you get a handsome walnut stock and forend. The receiver has a matte blued finish rather than just a basic matte black. These premium materials make the Fieldmaster feel like a high-quality firearm from the moment you pick it up.

Added Features

In addition to the improved action and premium materials, the Fieldmaster includes features missing from the Express like a drilled and tapped receiver, sling swivel studs, and three choke tubes (cylinder, modified, and full). The ability to mount optics and the inclusion of multiple choke tubes provides added versatility for both hunting and target shooting.
Overall, the Fieldmaster is a noticeable step up from the 870 Express in terms of build quality, materials, and features. For the extra $100, you're getting an 870 that handles and shoots like a dream with some useful extras. If you want an affordable, all-purpose shotgun that will last a lifetime, the Fieldmaster is worth the investment. The improved 870 platform combined with that walnut stock is hard to beat.

Range Testing the Upgraded 870 Fieldmaster Shotgun

Accuracy and Pattern

When you first take the Fieldmaster out to the range, you’ll likely be impressed with how accurately it shoots. At 25 to 50 yards, the three choke tubes—improved cylinder, modified, and full—provided tight shot patterns on the target. The smooth bore and polished chamber of the upgraded barrel seem to help the shot stay together as it leaves the muzzle.

Reliability

The true test of any shotgun is how reliably it cycles and ejects shells. During several rounds of shooting, the Fieldmaster performed flawlessly, extracting and ejecting shells cleanly after each shot. The action felt smooth and didn’t bind up or jam at all. This type of reliability and smooth functioning is what you hope for in an upgraded gun.

Handling and Feel

One of the biggest improvements with the Fieldmaster is its upgraded furniture and metal finish. The walnut stock and forend feel solid and comfortable in your hands. And the blued metal finish on the barrel and receiver looks sharp and high quality. The Fieldmaster just feels like a premium shotgun when you shoulder and shoot it.
Overall, the initial range testing of Remington’s 870 Fieldmaster showed it to be a noticeable upgrade over the standard 870 Express. With its tighter shot patterns, smoother action, and upgraded fit and finish, the Fieldmaster would make a great all-around shotgun for upland bird hunting, waterfowl hunting, or sporting clays. While more long-term testing is still needed, the first impressions of this reintroduced shotgun are very positive. For an additional $100 over the base model 870 Express, the Fieldmaster seems worth the extra investment.

Conclusion

So in the end, the Remington 870 Fieldmaster brings some nice upgrades to the table compared to the Express model. The premium walnut stock and metal finishing look great, and the three choke tubes add versatility. While the Fieldmaster costs more, the initial performance indicates it’s a worthy successor to the 870 legacy. The true test will come through long-term use, but if you want a refined 870 with some classic styling, the Fieldmaster deserves strong consideration. Time will tell, but the foundation is solid for this reinvigorated shotgun.

2024.05.15 07:57 TwoToOblivion Data Management - Applications - D427 (Dan's Guide)

Start Date/End Date: 4/19/24 - 05/13/24 (~3 Weeks)
Study Time: 10-20 Hours
Coaching Report
Overview:
As many of you probably will, I took this class immediately after D426. I thought I was gonna finish this class much quicker than I did. Most of the reason it took me longer was due to unrelated things occurring in my life, but I digress. If D426 is the "why' behind SQL, this class is the "how." The exam is 25 questions long and more than half of those questions will have you actually writing SQL statements. This was a big adjustment because when studying for D426, I didn't do any labs. Writing SQL statements was something that took a while to "click," but when it did, things got a lot easier. Knowing when to use quotes, parentheses, and commas was my main issue.
Studying:
I recommend using the Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 labs in Zybooks. If you need to, you can also read over Chapters 1 & 2, but the labs should be your main focus. These labs are very similar to the questions in the Pre-Assesment, which was similar to the Objective assessment. When I first did these labs, I would look over the corresponding lesson and try to answer them on my own. 9/10 times, my statement was wrong. I then checked this quizlet for the correct statements (since Zybooks won't tell you). I would review it and try and figure out why their statement was correct and why mine was wrong. I went over all the labs at least 3-4 times before taking the Pre-Assesment. Once I took the Pre-Assesment, I used ChatGPT to get the correct answers for the questions I missed (since once again, you can't see what the right answers are). Be aware that in my experience, there are a couple of questions on the PA (and probably even the OA) where you can answer the question 100% correctly but still be marked wrong because you didn't do it the way they wanted you to. This is my biggest issue with this class and I really hope this gets fixed.
Exam:
As for the exam, my biggest piece of advice is to run a second statement to check your answers. If you have a question where you need to create a table, add columns, or update data types and need to review the Columns/Data types, run a second statement where you type
DESCRIBE table_name
If you have a question where you're inserting/changing/updating rows & values and want to see the data within a table, run a second statement where you type.
SELECT *
FROM table_name
You can also do this before and after your initial statement to ensure that the data actually changed. If you do this, MAKE SURE TO DELETE THE SECOND STATEMENT AFTER TESTING IT. I also ran my code again after deleting it just to be safe. If you don't delete your statement, the question will probably be marked entirely wrong. Also, don't worry about this taking up your time, you get like 4 hours for this exam.
In addition to what's in the labs, you should how to write different aggregate functions (Min, Max, Sum, etc.) and how to delete a table entirely. There are also multiple-choice questions, but it's probably less than 10. If you passed D426, these shouldn't be a huge deal. They'll probably be similar to the ones that appeared on the PA.
Conclusion: I actually grew to sort of enjoy writing SQL statements after this class. However, the questions can be very tedious and I don't believe there is much partial credit. You have to be very careful not to make any typos and to answer the question how you think they want you to answer it. I think this class would work far better as a Performance-Assesment rather than an objective one. Something where you have to create a project in SQL would be much more enjoyable in my opinion. But as of right now, as long as you review and understand the labs and Pre-assessment, you should be able to pass this one.

2024.05.15 07:25 Sin-God A New Chain: Another Day Another Dollar

A/N: This incorporates a new build, with additional drawbacks and perks. I added a few gamer functions, as well as Lightning Quick, Brute Strength, DPS, and Rogue. More details are available over on Spacebattles (I also edited the original chapters there to reflect the changes).
Within minutes of entering the building and clocking in, I'm speedily typing away at my computer. There are stacks of papers on my desk that I am dedicatedly transcribing and digitizing.
This is my job, at least on most days. I have to take sheets of paper, invariably assorted forms related to insurance, and digitize them. In minutes I have already done this to a few different types of forms, from applications to the paperwork regarding claims and investigations into claims. "Speed Typist" mixed with "Lightning Quick" allows me to easily breeze through even dense forms and shift between the programs I need to use for each type of form. My job is hilariously, almost offensively, easy and I have already heard that we have a backlog so I have plenty of stuff to go through.
As I type I begin to think about each of my gamer perks as well as my system. Every few minutes I'll "mistype" thanks to "Buggy" and I'll spend a split second going back and fixing my mistake but between "The Devil's Own Luck" and "Lightning Quick" I'm able to fix my mistakes in a span of milliseconds. While I type I use "Observe" every instance I can, throwing in a tiny burst to the overall amount of experience I gain.
I use my enhanced mind's passive ability to follow two trains of thought while I work. As far as anyone can tell I'm diligently doing my job, but in actuality I'm exploring my system. Through passive, almost imperceptible gestures, mostly due to how fast they are, I am messing around with my rather system.
I whittle away the hours I need to spend at my job doing this. During this time I get a few of my skills to level up a few times, thanks to my decision to faithfully and diligently hone some of my other abilities like "Observe". Eventually lunch rolls around and Amy sneaks up behind me so she can surprise me and draw me away from my work. I feign surprise when she reaches me up and taps on my shoulder, and this is a perfect chance for me to try something out.
I make small talk and I silently activate my ability to pause reality while I'm in the middle of a sentence. The world freezes around me and I get to see Amy freeze as she reacts to what I'm saying. I have a reason for doing this, it's all for the sake of experimenting with some of my more intriguing abilities.
I focus on Amy even as I interact with my system's UI and I activate my "Gacha" mechanic. In my mind's eye I can see a logo representing a capsule machine beginning to stir to life and spin some of the capsules containing various awards, and I think about two enormously powerful perks: "The Face" and "Silver Tongue".
These two charisma enhancing perks are incredibly valuable tools in my repertoire and I have yet to meaningfully use them. One of them, "Silver Tongue" is not as directly powerful as "The Face" but it offers me broad knowledge of psychology, enhances my charismatic intuition, and makes me incredibly attractive. The real powerhouse of a perk is "The Face". By focusing on people and thinking of something I want them to believe or persuade them to do I have a supernatural intuitive sense that allows me to know the best sort of argument I could make to achieve that goal. To test this I study Amy while wondering if there's any way for me to convince her to go on a date with me, and after a split second of thinking I begin to feel vague intuitive senses of what I could say and do that would make her see me as a potential romantic interest, and I know that doing that before I ask her out would guarantee success if I wanted her to go on a date with me.
I immediately shift tactics and try to see if I could persuade her to give me 100,000 dollars, and I am unsurprised when I do not gain any vague sensations about how to make that happen one way or another. "Worth a shot..." I tell myself, and if I could smile more I would. Both of these perks are strong, but I'm clever enough to recognize that they become even stronger when I add "Beautiful Mind" and "Well of Wisdom" to the mix. WoW is especially handy in a combination like this, since it allows me to pick and choose the most efficient route to my desired outcome. This is especially true if I mix it with my ability to pause time, since I can give myself breathing room and contemplate how to most skillfully word my arguments and present my positions.
The gacha machine, or some abstraction of one, in my head slows to a stop. When it does a symbol of a capsule pops out and I am delighted to see that I've won a mundane iPad like device, a handy thing I can use as a computer for the time being! This is quite handy, and I can see this particular mechanic becoming something life-saving in a moment of desperation with the right amount of luck. The decide immediately fills a slot in my inventory, and I make a mental note to pull it out and use it later.
I unpause time and over the course of the next few minutes I use my skills, mixing all of the aforementioned perks and functions of my gamer skills as Amy and I walk over to the cafeteria. It is only when we're sitting through the door into the cafeteria that I sense an opportunity to ask my friend something.
"Hey, do you want to try a soup I made? I like it but having a second opinion is always good." I remark, causing her eyes to brightly light up. I grin at her and we walk over to the same table we ate at yesterday. I hand her the small container I'm holding my soup in, and she looks at it. I see her inhale and watch as her eyes light up. We're the first of the people to arrive at our table so no one else sees this. The container I gave her also has some silverware which she uses to go ahead and take a sip of the soup. I am delighted when time freezes and I get a notification alerting me to the acquisition of a new class: that of a chef. I immediately equip it even as I click through the drawback that appears before me. This also confirms that at least in some cases what is needed for me to get a class is for me to do stuff in front of others or at least involve them in some way.
As time resumes I see Amy's face light up.
"This is delicious!" She states with a delighted and sincere grin. I light up as she tells me this and I lightly cheer. This is excellent news, and my acquisition of this class is very fascinating. When it comes to classes I have a unique ability to get them to "Prestige" once they reach a high enough level, and given my current build's focus on support, buffing, and healing, if I can master a class like that of a chef I can do a lot.
"I'm so happy you like it!" I exclaim, sincerely. It really does taste quite good, but my whole body is enhanced and I'm superhumanly sensitive to things like taste so there's no guarantee that what I taste will be what others taste. That said, cooking is an absolutely incredible skill so if I can master it... Well, I'll always be able to prove my worth in almost any situation involving other people. Cooking... is a cracked skill to have in real life.
Our friends join us and as they do Amy turns to them and hands one of the women the container. Mary looks at us quizzically and Amy pantomimes for her friend to try the soup. Mary's look of confusion only becomes more apparent, but she still dutifully does as she's been asked, using her own silverware to do so. Her eyes light up as well and I feel how much experience I have as a cook slowly increase, which brings a smug smile to my face.
"This is delicious! What is this?!" Mary asks, and I grin and point at me. She smiles, impressed, before handing it back to me.
"I made this soup last night. I liked it but I didn't know if I was going crazy or not." I remark, and that gets a laugh out of Amy.
"Well, if working at an office ever gets boring you could make a living as a chef. This is amazing!" She states, and I can hear the honesty in her voice. It's kind of nice how much she likes the stuff, and a part of me wouldn't mind making more food for her if she's gonna be this enthusiastic about what I give her to eat.
It's hard not for me not to beam at my companions in passive delight the whole time we're eating lunch. The lunchroom conversation is kept simple and we simply inform each other about upcoming plans and light gossip, all of which I've heard before thanks to my enhanced, and growing, senses. Super Sensory is a strong enough perk by default but because of my ability to expand every facet of myself, coupled with the universality of "Master of All" I am just passively growing in my ability to hear stuff. Seeing as I am uncapped I could see myself someday hearing every conversation in this building, almost certainly by the end of the year given how all of my growth is linked together and builds on each other.
Lunch comes and goes in a blur and in minutes I'm back in front of the computer. In front of the computer I'm a blur, my fingers strengthened by Lightning Quick and Speed Typist. I whittle away the hours diligently doing my job, distracting myself and minorly doing other things by making use of my dual trains of thought, and even when I overcome instances of "Buggy" every few minutes I still find myself grateful that I took the drawbacks I did. This work would be... less than fun otherwise. By the time my workday comes to an end and I find myself outside of the office I've filled out hundreds of forms and diligently pushed various skills of mine to new levels. Colleagues of mine are walking around me and also leaving the office. I casually pause time. making use of my pause ability again, and I begin to think of what to do and where to go next.
"I suppose now's as good a time as any to go and see about volunteering..." I eventually realize as I think about the various things I can do from here. I momentarily wonder where I should go to try and do that before I remember what I told Amy and the others yesterday about how I volunteered at a clinic. WIth Healer volunteering at a hospital would be good for me, even if I couldn't do as much good as I'd like too since I am not a doctor. I unpause time and smile as I reach into my pocket, use "Inventory" and retrieve my cellphone.
"Where is the nearest hospital?" I ask aloud, into the phone. Some of the people walking past me glance at me curiously and I smile sheepishly as my phone begins to tell me where to go. I begin to walk in the direction the phone indicates, happy to have a chance to begin to do some good.
The walk isn't terribly long. It turns out that the hospital is in a part of downtown that I didn't explore last night, and I reach it less than five minutes after I start walking, just in the opposite direction of where I was going before. The hospital isn't huge, which surprises me since I don't seem to be living in some small town but in a decently sized city. I walk into the main entrance and step into a large lobby where a decent amount of foot traffic seems to happen, judging from the footprints I can faintly see on the floor beneath me. I walk up to a receptionist desk and the man behind it doesn't bother looking up and instead taps the clipboard in front of him. I glance at it and laugh when I see that it's a standard questionnaire for people who are visiting a hospital for normal, health-related reasons. My reaction surprises the man, and to be fair it's definitely odd for someone in a hospital to laugh at the sight of a hospital questionnaire.
I am laughing at the questionnaire because it's amusing to think about the possibility of getting sick, I'm a gamer, and while normally that'd conjure images of nerds and geeks in my case it means that my health is protected. I have two very powerful perks/features that wildly mitigate the dangers of sicknesses: "Tough As Nails" which guarantees that it'd take something supernatural or almost supernatural to stand a chance of even slowing me down, and "Gamer Body". Gamer Body is interesting in this context since it gamifies negative conditions and allows me to, quite literally, sleep them off. Even something like losing a limb can be cured with a night of sleep thanks to my abilities which feels radically overpowered given how little it cost. I have other perks which further lower my odds of being negatively affected by sicknesses, such as "The Devil's Own Luck". I also have my magic, which includes spells that completely heal and purify the body, and would work on me just as readily as they'd work on other people.
"I'm actually here to learn how to volunteer? I'm new in town and I used to volunteer at a clinic in my home town so I wanted to see if I could volunteer here." I explain, which causes the guy to look up at me. When he does his eyes widen, and I smile awkwardly. I consider feigning ignorance, or perhaps innocence, but I know what's going on. He wasn't expecting me to look the way I look.
My new looks are something it is taking me a beat to get used to. I was only okay looking before, but now my looks are hyper idealized, and I am a conceptually handsome version of the very best I could have ever looked, and it is a bit jarring. It's more jarring for me, knowing that before I was an at best average-looking guy before coming to this world and gaining this new form. I allow the man a beat, before I clear my throat and the sound snaps him out of the daze he was in.
"Oh! Sorry, man, I just assumed you were sick. Umm... Yeah, let me give you a packet." The man says, before reaching under the desk in front of him. I smile lightly as he rummages around the interior of the space that separates us.
My powerful senses allow me to easily notice all sorts of stuff occurring around me. I can hear the vital processes in the bodies of the people closest to me, such as heartbeats and the smells of sweat, as well as other bodily fluids. Many of the people in this area of the hospital are sick, and truthfully if I could I'd heal them all.
One of my reasons for coming here today is to give myself a means by which I can help and heal people. This is, mildly, altruistic but more than anything else I want to master the power to heal people before I leave this setting. In the right setting, being a healer is absolutely a pivotal method of interacting with my environment and also getting allies, as well as staying alive.
The man eventually hands me a packet, along with a pen to use to fill out parts of it, and I smile at him as I take it. It is filled with information, including an application to fill out, and I thank him as I walk over to the waiting area and begin to fill it out. The questions are simple and ask for basic information about me. I fill it out, though a part of me is curious how this'll mesh with my drawbacks...
When I finish filling out the form I hand it to the man and he gratefully takes it. He explains that I'll be contacted by someone named "Ms. Jimenez" soon, and that she oversees the volunteer program. I delightedly thank him for that information and begin to head out of the hospital.
In minutes I'm part of the way home. I am a decently fast walker, though that's something I'd like to work on more in the days to come. The sun is quickly descending, and the moon is already visible in the night sky. I'm approaching the row of apartment buildings that include the building I live in. As I draw nearer and nearer to it I spot a lone homeless man sleeping next to one of the apartments. He is clearly asleep and my observation ability only confirms this. It also reveals that the man is sick, and when I glance at his hit points I see further confirmation of that, as he's down a few of them. I am walking towards him, and as I move I see a nice opportunity for me to try something.
I silently activate "Rogue", one of my more odd perks, and I feel my presence become much more subdued and difficult to notice. I approach the man, and I shut my eyes. As I walk towards him I allow myself to be guided by Super Sensory and only stop when I'm right in front of the man. I kneel and I focus on my spellbook icon, allowing me to see my list of spells. My senses allow me to be confident that the figure is still asleep when I gently move my hands so that they are in front of him. Time freezes as I gain a "Stealth" skill, and while time is frozen I swap my class and become a mage so I can gain valuable experience before I deactivate "Tutorial Sprite". I allow time to resume and smile as I trigger a spell for the first time, one of healing.
For me to activate the spell requires nothing more than for me to have enough magic points and an applicable target. This particular spell is my more advanced spell and it can work on all sorts of living targets. It is named "Intermediate heal" and the fact that I have it is a sign of one of my purchases; Healer. I feel my points of arcane energy be converted into sacred, restorative energy and I open my eyes in time to watch my hands begin to glow as energy leaves me and enters him. I look at his hit points and watch them begin to slowly increase even as I hit him with another instance of "Observe". I do so just in time to feel time freeze as new notifications appear in my mind's eye. One of the first notifications is that I have just earned experience for the "Mage" class, which becomes experience for everything thanks to Master of All, while another indicates that I've just unlocked a quest to become a healer! I study these notifications with a proud grin as this marks an important milestone in my journey. The fact that the class I want is locked behind a quest is interesting and I make a mental note to study the quest as I head home.
I unfreeze time, notice that the man is already visibly healthier, and turn to make my way back to my new home. It takes only about six minutes before I find myself stepping into my apartment. Now I can play with my new toy from earlier!

2024.05.15 06:25 Stanley232323 Daily Community Tiering Post Day 28: A whole lotta Geng' sh*t. It's Gengar/Mega Gengar/Dynamax Gengar!

Hello again everybody!
Before we get started on today's post the current voting for Toxtricity/Dynamax Toxtricity had a surge of votes for A tier come in that has almost caught up to the number of Abstaining votes, so there is still a chance we end up Tiering the Punk Rock poison lizard off of the vote but at the moment it's most likely that it will go back on to the radar list for a future vote. There is still plenty of voting time however so if you haven't voted on that one yet click the link below and scroll down to the comments to find a link to the post or sort the SubReddit by the "Tiering/Voting" tag to find it and cast your vote!
Like with all previous votes I'll continue to check the numbers and if anything changes I'll update it on tomorrow's post.
(Please note that this voting/tiering is centered around Classic as after a certain point in Endless only about 5 Pokemon and 2 abilities are truly viable.)
So current tiers are:
S tier - Garganacl, Cloyster, Skeledirge, Gholdengo, Tinkaton
A tier - Gyarados/Mega, VenusauMega/Dyna, Aegislash, Corviknight/Dyna, Excadrill, GardevoiMega, Toxapex, ScizoMega
B tier - Kanto-Persian/Dynamax Kanto-Meowth, Weavile, Starmie, Rhyperior, Quagsire, Mamoswine
C tier - Linoone
F tier - Dustox
With that being said let's get to today's vote!
Today is day 28 of tier voting and today we will be talking about the OG Ghost Pokemon from all the way back in the first generation that has long been a fan-favorite and competitive staple. Gengar has a typing that was unique to its evolutionary line all the way until the generation 9 DLC added the mythical Pecharunt with the same type combination. On top of that its base form has a really good Special Attack stat and a very good Speed stat to go with it despite being pretty frail defensively. Its Mega form boosts that Special Attack and Speed to ridiculous heights and even gives it a little more bulk to work with as well. On the flip side, this game gives its Dynamax form a little different stat spread which trades off some of its Speed to give it some surprisingly solid bulk on a Pokemon which hasn't been known for its survivability historically. Gengar has a good movepool with good coverage even before this game gives it even more options to choose from in the form of egg moves. Although its Passive Ability isn't the greatest (mostly since it doesn't work on Boss Pokemon, however it does synergize with Mega Gengar's ability well) with those stats and movepool it really doesn't need its Passive to still be strong.
(Please note that Pokemon with Mega/Dynamax evolutions will be tiered as one Pokemon and not tiered separately for their Mega/Dynamax form. Different variants such as Alolan Persian vs. Kanto Persian will be tiered separately however.)
(Also here is the post with rules for voting/tiering posts and a little more explanation about them in general: https://www.reddit.com/pokerogue/s/0LNZhPPzR9 Links to past votes can all be found here as well in comments added to the OP with each new vote)
And here is a quick reminder of what each tier generally means:
S tier: Top tier, can make or break your entire run, essentially the cream of the crop
A tier: really strong but not quite top tier, maybe slightly outclassed or has a slight weakness holding it back
B tier: solid choices that can make it to your endgame team, might be reliant on team composition to truly function well or might just be outclassed as well
C tier: usually early-mid game Mons, ones you don't really want to take to end game if you can avoid it, usually pretty decently glaring weakness but something redeeming enough to keep from F tier
F tier: no reason to use in end game unless you're doing it for a meme/joke
Abstain/No Opinion: this will be a voting option mostly just in case someone accidentally votes and then can't remove their vote (I've noticed that happens on Reddit sometimes) or for Pokemon people haven't unlocked/used to their full potential yet. If Abstaining votes outvote each individual tier then the Pokemon will be tabled for the time being and another vote will open up for it later (can mostly see this happening with Legendaries).
(Data in parentheses is for the Mega form) [Data in brackets is for the Dynamax form)

2024.05.15 06:16 superhoffy We need to wake the hell up

Social Media and smartphones are warping how we see the real world and our reality is losing nuance rapidly.
Take the man or bear debate as a recent example. The whole premise is unhelpful and based on a glaring falsehood. It's like a 13-year-old's first essay on a topic they know next to nothing about. I'm pretty sure actual survivors of sexual abuse don't give a single damn about this "dilemma". They have real issues to deal with that those of us who are engaging in this discourse have the privilege of not having to deal with. All this fad is doing is spread the paranoid notion that there are male predators waiting around every other corner. How is that helping survivors of abuse with real trauma and fears that they carry with them in public places on a daily basis? It is absolutely not a show of solidarity to those who have actually suffered, yet people do genuinely believe they are "raising awareness", or "taking a stand".
I mean it's a far-less improbable yet ironic scenario to imagine someone walking the dim city streets at night alone with their necks bent square over their smartphones, going round corners oblivious to their surroundings while texting "I'll take the bear lol". Those same people will say they're afraid to walk alone at night and they yeard for the bear. I made that scenario up, but I've literally seen people bumping into walls and into other people in a smart phone-induced trance and just continuing like nothing happened and I've also seen people gleefully (not ruefully) opt for "the bear". What I mean is a lot of people are claiming to be terrified when they're not.
Like with the Tik-tok trend that's been dangerously telling people they have "high-functioning anxiety" without professional diagnoses, where if everyone is mentally ill then no one is mentally ill1, it also stands to reason that if everyone is afraid, then no one is afraid. It's a dangerous way of "showing solidarity" to let pervade through society. I'm no Jordan Peterson fan, but this is a good example of the dangers of fake solidarity*. It's not just fake; it's damaging.
The whole bear vs man thing just seems to polarise people into two camps who perceive the other either as man-haters or rape-apologists. But you know what? it's not even close to being real and does absolutely nothing to bring people of differing views any closer to understanding each other. I also 100% guarantee you that those who "choose the bear" don't actually practise what they preach in their lives to even the slightest degree. One example I witnessed was at a recent social occasion where a female high school teacher whom I know quite well told her boyfriend and father to ask her if she was alone in the woods, what she would prefer... Before she even said the words "bear", or "man", I knew where where we were heading and intuitively knew what her answer was going to be.
It wasn't a debate from the very beginning. It was more like a joke - a weird joke about sexual assault told in the first person. Before she'd even got to her supposedly mind-blowing punchline (which was, in case you're a bit late to this party, "I'd choose the bear because the bear won't rape me!"), everyone seemed to know what it was going to be. Given the expectant grin on her face when she said these impactful words, It didn't turn out to be the “gotcha” she thought it was going to be. This was quite an awkward experience. I can only guess that the "gotcha" aimed at the men in the room was supposed to educate them to be ashamed to be male on the spot. It didn’t. I explained why I thought the whole thing was flawed and I was informed I needed to lighten up. I was definitely mistaken in thinking that it was a chance to talk philosophy (is it ever these days?), but perpetuating the idea that "male rapists are everywhere" while simultaneously trivialising real suffering of abuse goes completely unchecked because when we engage in this form of discourse we reduce ourselves to vacuous, infantile creatures who ironically think they're acting like fully-developed adults. Rape is light-hearted; yet - and this is where the cognitive disonance gets really odd - you're either standing up for it or you're standing up against it, but no matter what side you're on, it's funny. Instead of thinking, "why is she grinning?!", we're thinking, "what side am I on and how can I also somehow make it funny?". When in reality, it's surface-level shock-value statements with zero nuance that we allow to insincerely represent us (the wide-grinning rape denouncer doesn't practise what she preaches: she isn't a raging man-hater; she's a decent person, but for some reason, she's adopted an inane comic-strip view on something as serious as rape - and incredibly, it's all in the defence of victims!).
And this way of engaging in discourse is everywhere. On Reddit, Facebook, Twitter etc., the finger-pointing and artificial coralling of all of us into fake dualities of misogynist vs virgin-for-life simp, misandrist vs patriachy-enabler, racist vs communist and many others are rife and it's finding its way into real-life discourse at the dinner table, the classroom and the office.
If we artificially and insincerely self-separate into these 1s and 0s, are we making it easier for the A.I. on our devices to "understand" us, classify us, manipulate us and ultimately annihilate us?
OK, maybe I went too far there, but is this jarring lack of nuance really the only way we want to "talk about" serious topics now? Is it only going to get worse? I feel like it wasn't long ago you could have real discussions about issues, but this art is dying - and rapidly. You can probably sense my frustration at how society is organising itself right now and I'd love to know if anyone has any suggestions on what we can do to encourage healthy conversations and debate with each other. Maybe I'm the problem. I used to be surrounded by people who took part in stimulating, nuanced debate and now I'm not. We used to tolerate different viewpoints and we didn't confront and "block" each other on a hair-trigger. Maybe I'm old and the kids are actually all right. Let me know.

2024.05.15 05:52 StarTechUP_Inc PostgreSQL vs MySQL: 10 Key Differences

Read the full blog here!
If you are in the midst of choosing a database management system (DBMS), you have two top options: PostgreSQL and MySQL.
Both databases are open-source and have a large user base, making them popular choices for many web applications.
But which one is better for your specific needs?

MySQL Database

Firstly, let's take a closer look at MySQL.
MySQL is an open-source relational database management systems (RDBMS) made by Oracle. It's designed to help users efficiently store, manage, and pull up structured data. Boasting its versatility, MySQL is being used for everything from small projects to big websites and even massive company solutions.

Why choose MySQL?

MySQL is a go-to choice for companies when it comes to software as a service. If you're looking for reasons why, here are a few of them:

PostgreSQL Database

Now, we look at PostgreSQL, another popular open-source RDBMS.
PostgreSQL, or "Postgres" for short, kicked off back in 1986 at the Berkeley Computer Science Department, University of California. It's an object-relational database management system (ORDBMS) that's packed with powerful features and really nails standards compliance.
It's common use cases are:

Why choose PostgreSQL?

Among the relational databases, PostgreSQL has been gaining popularity over the years due to several factors, including:

Key Differences of PostgreSQL vs MySQL

Popularity
The popularity of PostgreSQL and MySQL is soaring thanks to the cloud, which makes things easier to set up.
In 2023, PostgreSQL was awarded the Database Management System of the Year by DB-Engines.
While PostgreSQL is the go-to for professional developers, learners are still big on MySQL, with 45% preferring it over PostgreSQL.
Data types
MySQL and PostgreSQL both handle a bunch of data types, from the simple to the more complex ones.
MySQL supports various data types for different applications, including Integers, Characters or Strings, Dates with Timestamps and Time Zones, Boolean, Float, Decimal, Large Text, and BLOB for binary data (like images). However, it doesn't support geometric data types.
On the other hand, PostgreSQL supports traditional SQL data types (e.g., Numeric, Strings, Date, Decimal) and unstructured types (e.g., JSON, XML, HSTORE), network data types, bit strings, etc. It stands out by supporting ARRAYs, NETWORK types, and Geometric data types for spatial data, thanks to the PostGIS extension, an open-source extension for advanced spatial functions.
See the complete details here.
License
MySQL's community edition uses the GPL license, which is pretty open.
On the other hand, Postgres goes with the PostgreSQL license—it's liberal, kind of like BSD or MIT licenses.
Despite MySQL being all about GPL, some users worry since Oracle owns it. That's actually why MariaDB was created as a sort of branch-off from MySQL. Oracle still owns MySQL, but the community rallies behind MariaDB.
PostgreSQL has been free to use and distribute since its inception. It's never been owned by any enterprise company unless you count the 1986 Berkeley Computer Science Department as a company.
Queries
MySQL uses a proprietary SQL database language, which is straightforward to learn and implement.
In contrast, PostgreSQL uses the standard SQL dialect that beginners may struggle with at first but will reward them in the long run since they'll have a solid foundation for other databases like Oracle, SQL Server, and others.
Database performance
MySQL performs better with simple SQL queries, while PostgreSQL excels at complex ones. However, for most workloads, Postgres and MySQL have similar performance, with up to 30% variation. Regardless of the database, missing an index can degrade query performance by 10x to 1000x.
MySQL has always been faster than PostgreSQL due to the way it implements data structures and locks tables, which usually leads to performance issues when dealing with large databases.
However, with its advanced indexing functionality and MVCC model for concurrency control, PostgreSQL can outperform MySQL on complex queries and large datasets.
Security
MySQL and PostgreSQL both have excellent security features. They both support RBAC.
They also support secure connections through SSL, advanced authentication methods like Kerberos and LDAP, and encryption at the column level.
However, PostgreSQL has a slight edge over MySQL in terms of security. It uses its client authentication system to perform user authentication, while MySQL relies on the host operating system for this task, which can be more vulnerable.
Architecture
MySQL is a relational database, while PostgreSQL is an object-relational database with advanced data types and inheritance for objects. However, this complexity can make PostgreSQL more challenging to use.
PostgreSQL comes with one ACID-compliant storage engine, while MySQL gives you options with 15 different storage engines beyond its default storage engine, InnoDB. This huge selection means you can easily find one that fits your specific needs.
Storage
Data storage is essential for any database. PostgreSQL and MySQL offer various data storage options, including Tables and Indexes on disk. This section looks at two storage options: common storage and pluggable storage.
PostgreSQL supports tablespaces for storing Tables, Indexes, and Materialized Views in various locations, improving I/O efficiency. However, it doesn't offer pluggable storage engines yet.
MySQL also uses tablespaces (within the InnoDB engine) for efficient I/O distribution by grouping physical objects. Unlike PostgreSQL, MySQL supports pluggable storage engines, enabling it to meet specific needs to store data for different applications, such as OLTP and Data Warehousing.
Replication
MySQL supports primary-replica and multi-replica replication, copying data changes from the primary to replicas using SQL. This asynchronous replication could affect performance and scalability.
MySQL replication allows replicas to manage reads and writes, ensuring continuity after a primary crash. However, syncing changes when transitioning a replica back to primary can slow the process, particularly with lengthy SQL operations.
PostgreSQL replication uses WAL files for fast, reliable, and manageable replication, outperforming MySQL's. It supports primary-replica and multi-replica setups, including cascading replication, with options for synchronous or asynchronous modes. Asynchronous allows for read requests on replicas, while synchronous replication ensures consistency across replicas and the primary but slows down transaction commits.
Community support
PostgreSQL and MySQL are both open-source databases, which means that they have a large community of developers who contribute to their development. However, the size of the community differs for these two databases.

2024.05.15 04:14 unicacher What the Sigma?

Knock on wood, so far this year, I haven't heard a single Skibbity Toilet or Alpha Male nonsense. Today, I had one of my less focused students start blurting out, "What the Sigma? What the Sigma? What. The. Sigma?" You know the behavior. Say something you heard on TikTok and then look to see who responds. Say it again, doing your absolute personal best to get attention. More effort than you've ever given a single assignment or locating a pencil of any functionality.
A couple of kids chuckle and look to me for a response, so I ask the kid, "What does that mean?" This, of course, is his cue to repeat it two more times.
I ask him again, what does the Greek letter Sigma mean to you in this context. Again, "What the Sigma?" as if he's owning the room.
Naturally, I Google that crap, to the utter astonishment of all the dingbats. Perhaps they believe I've never heard of the Interwebs.
According to all of the reliable sources (I found them on the Internet, so they must be correct), a Sigma is equal to an Alpha, but living away from the pack. I shared this with the class and then clarified with my student, "So, you're a Sigma, on par with the Alpha, right?"
"Ummmmm..."
"If you're the Sigma, you're basically a pack leader, like an Alpha, right? You're the boss. Everybody follows you. You are the best at everything and everybody knows it."
"Ummmmmmm...." A couple of "Ooooohs" from the peanut gallery tell me that the burn has landed. My A kids are having a nice chuckle at the moment.
"Now, dear children, let's all appreciate this moment of irony." At this point, I resumed my normal teaching activities, but a bit more dramatically than usual. We're in a wood shop, so most of this is monitoring traffic, giving safety reminders and generally saying things like, "Next you're going to the table saw," or, "Before you jump into that could you pick up those three things." We have a well-oiled machine and kids were quick to respond to my requests and move on with whatever they were doing.
The irony was entirely lost on my poor Sigma, but everybody else in the room understood that the hierarchy had been quietly affirmed.

2024.05.15 04:03 Jyontaitaa Fixing dreadnoughts

These suggestions are from my readings of Horus heresy novel series.
Dreadnoughts are often amongst the oldest marines in the legion even way back in 30k. They are often presented as disoriented due to age, due to being awaken from a long slumber, due to their injuries and the quirks of the interface.
I don’t think the bs and ws of 5 is justified. Should be 4 or even 3 for bs honestly. A dreadnought without close combat weapons should certainly have its weapon skill nerfed.
If you are fielding lots of dreadnoughts it should be a rare event, they are often deployed at times when man power is short. They have awoken recently from a slumber and are disoriented. How about having a d6 table roll similar to the militia gene crafted rule to see how functional they will be? Or passing a leadership test before taking each action moving/shooting?
How about giving the little guys a chance to take this thing down. How about reducing strength and toughness by 1 for each wound lost. Surely bolter fire could become a more realistic weapon to take down a dread as it becomes increasingly damaged by heavier weapons?
Just some thoughts on how to fix these units for fairer play.

Can't insert row into table please help ;-;
Hey guys, I hope you are all doing well! I am currently facing an issue that idk how to fix. Here is the error: new row violates row-level security policy for table "Posts".
Tech I am using:
  • Next js 14
  • Supabase
  • PropelAuth for authentication.
I am following this guide (https://www.propelauth.com/post/authentication-with-nextjs-13-and-supabase-app-router).
I created a supabaseClient.ts file:
import {createClient, SupabaseClientOptions} from '@supabase/supabase-js' import {UserFromToken} from '@propelauth/nextjs/client'; import jwt from "jsonwebtoken"; export default async function supabaseClient(user: UserFromToken) { if (!user) { throw new Error("User not authenticated"); } const jwtPayload = { "sub": user.userId, "email": user.email, } const supabaseAccessToken = jwt.sign(jwtPayload, process.env.NEXT_SUPABASE_JWT_SECRET "", { expiresIn: '15 minutes' }) const options: SupabaseClientOptions = { global: { headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${supabaseAccessToken}`, } }, auth: { persistSession: false, } } return createClient( process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_URL ?? "", process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY ?? "", options ) }
I have a route.ts file at app/api//post:
export async function POST(request: Request) { try { const user = await getUserOrRedirect(); const supabase = await supabaseClient(user); const insertData = await request.json(); console.log("INSERTDATA:", insertData); const { data, error } = await supabase .from("Posts") .insert([insertData]) .select(); handleErrorResponse(error); console.log("DATA:", data); return NextResponse.json(data, { status: 201 }); } catch (error: any) { handleJSErrorResponse(error); return new Response(JSON.stringify({ error: error.message }), { status: 500, headers: { "Content-Type": "application/json", }, }); } }
I did some logging:
INSERTDATA: { id: 'bc9a409d-27ab-41f3-acaa-c1ca295cfcf1', title: 'baseball', topic: 'sport', thumbnail: '', content: '[{"id":"1","type":"p","children":[{"text":"baseball sport"}]}]', tags: [ 'ball' ], user_id: 'acfacc9a-d279-4d1c-a10e-86b2ae529ddb', created_at: '2024-05-15T01:29:30.774Z' } Supabase error: { code: '42501', details: null, hint: null, message: 'new row violates row-level security policy for table "Posts"' }
The supabase access token and jwt payload token are both defined too (logged).
In supabase, I have the following policy for insert:

40 card kitchen table old school
Hey, I know this might not be everyone's cup of tea but my wife and I play casual / kitchen table most of the times we play and we usually just make little 40 card decks with a limit of x2 of any card. Recently we wanted to put the "old school" spin on our kitchen table "format" we play and these are our first two decks.
Not super optimized and we often will favor art we like over functionality. Most of the stuff is unlimited with a few revised things and the mox is a proxy / fake that came in a bulk collection I bought (and knew it was fake, it was disclosed up front) so I tossed it in for fun because I don't have any power.
The hope is that they will be semi balanced against each other but if things need to be adjusted we will.
My brother played back in the 90s and he's gonna build one too so we can play multiplayer!
I know this is not everyone's thing but I just wanted to show my decks! I can't wait to try to get more beta basic forests haha!

2024.05.15 02:22 Weird-Associate-1213 So many similar calculators but... Which one is best? CS student looking for help

Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone can help me with this: I'm starting my first intro classes for Computer Science and my calculator is pretty outdated (it's called "Cifra SC-820" for any curious minds) so i'm looking to upgrade to a new one that'll hopefully get me through the rest of uni :) I've been told several times Casio is kind of unbeatable, so given that some of them are in my budget + available in my country, i'm leaning towards that brand. As far as i'm aware, the only limitations in my class/tests are graphing calculators, which are forbidden, but most other things are allowed (as long as I can also explain the process, but that's 100% on me)
If it helps, the models i've been looking into are the following: fx-570la Plus 2, fx-570la CW, or similar ones
For starters I'm mostly looking for a durable option that contains natural textbook layout, manipulating fractions, solving quadratic/cubic/etc equations... hopefully a table function, maybe calculating limits, working with complex numbers, maybe vectors, matrices, and similar algebra and calculus stuff :,) Something that'll give me a nice hand with all of that and anything that may come my way in the rest of advanced calculus, algebra and computing classes. I don' really care for solar charging ones to be honest, unless they drastically affect the calculator's lifespan. Regarding the CW, I'm mostly worried it'll be extremely complex to use in comparison to the other one!
I tried narrowing it down as much as possible, but most calculators, specifically these ones, look really similar to each other, so i'm having a hard time finishing my decision, any help is extremely appreciated!
TLDR; Which would you reccomend for a CS student that'll face advanced calculus, algebra and computing classes?
