Has anyone tried www.trustedhousesitters.com or a similar platform (House Sitters UK, Pawshake, etc)? How easy is it to find good enough accommodation in popular places like London 10 days in advance on such a platform? Trusted House Sitters costs €120 to sign up (annual membership fee), and before I invest that money and the time to create a profile if it actually works.
Also curious about www.homeexchange.com. As far as I understand (haven't signed up yet), you earn "guest points" by hosting people (or paying money) and then you can use them to "pay" for accommodation while traveling. Has anyone used that?
More context (optional): I'm coming to London for a week for a conference (28 May - 3 June). Hotels are super expensive, and I'd much rather find a cheap or free place in return for taking care of a pet. I love cats especially (I used to have one myself) but also all other animals (dogs, birds, guinea pigs, ..), even exotic ones like squirrels, and animals tend to like me too.

Hey everyone! So I have been feeling for 1-2 years like litigation life really isn’t for me. I have done almost ten jury trials and nearly twenty bench. I do get a rush and love when I win, but the lead up to trial causes me a lot of stress. I have learned I really don’t like fighting. I have been very dissolusioned as well about this field.
I think back to before I was a lawyer in 2016. I wish I could feel that free and happy again. To be able to travel without being so worried about my emails and deadlines. I get anxiety constantly over sending and receiving emails. I dread when the phone rings.
However, I make a great salary. And when I look at other possible moves, they never pay as well as a litigator. At this point, I’m willing to stay a realistic cut for peace of mind and happiness.
Can someone suggest somewhere I can take my skills and experience, get to work in a more collaborative and pleasant environment (not my office but the field in general)?
I might add that I am pregnant successfully for the first time in 6 tries. I recently made the switch to a private personal injury firm thinking that I would never be a mom. Now this is adding to the dynamic.

TL;DR: Avoid Cleansheet until patched and even then, think twice.
I was pretty excited about this shadow drop -- a football keeper game with realistic physics. It's the kind of game I wish there was more of on the PSVR2, something sporty and a different kind of experience with physicality and dimensionality. But there are so many jaw-droppingly terrible things about it. Be careful what you wish for in terms of developers porting their games over...
First the good, as there is a fun experience in here somewhere (as reviewed on other systems). In the main mode you're in net as a play develops in front of you and eventually a shot comes your way. The players are motion captured and it feels realish as they pass the ball from side to side or send in a corner, dodging your motion caputred defenders or some cutouts, and then finally let a shot (or header) rip.
The net isn't full size (although there are three size settings) and there's no real positioning to do, but tracking the play and then reacting to the shot is pretty fun. The ball comes in quick and some shots have spin and bend on them. The players shoot it right next to you a lot instead of picking out corners but that's probably by design because nobody's going to dive for a ball low and to the side. You get 10 random plays at a time and then it gives you an "analysis" of each which just shows you the final path of the ball and how you did. Fair enough.
Now the bad, as the game absolutely collapses beyond this concept. Oh, where to begin. Well, first there's the stuttering. Every much every shot is going to have what looks like a missing couple of frames at some point along its path, and on some longer plays there will be 3-4 such jerks before it gets to you. It's quite jarring in VR when the ball is flying at you at high speed and in a game where the whole point is carefully tracking and reacting to the shot it's so annoying as to be almost unplayable. I don't understand how anyone could play test this even once and think "seems good enough, let's roll".
Then there's the quick reaction mode that fires ball after ball at you from various circles arranged in front of you. But they come RIGHT AT YOU to the point where it's nearly impossible to not save them. Seriously, I got to 370 with no misses on the hardest setting/maximum goal size before calling it quits. And I wasn't even trying, just casually slapping them away like flies at the end. There's just nothing to it. I saw some guy on the leaderboard (of six people so far) get up to 750 but I would bet it was only boredom or life calling and not actually letting in the 10 shots that ends your run that made him stop. A total waste of a mode, you can only think that they tried to recalibrate the difficulty for the psvr2 and blew it somehow. Not fun. Totally embarrassing, really.
Then, there are the microtransactions, and they are pretty bad. Want to face only headers in the main mode? That's another 1/4 the price of the game! Free kicks? another 1/4! Penalties? 1/4! Want some gloves that aren't basic red or blue? That's 1/8 for each (uninspired) pair! A ball that isn't plain white? Same! Especially when the modes are so lacking and broken, walling more variety in shots and some incredibly basic cosmetics behind more cash is somewhere between maddening and hilariously misguided. Sure whales beach themselves now and again, but not like this...
Next, the throwing mechanic is one of the worst I've ever seen in a game. There's a tutorial but It just doesn't work, you just bonk the ball in front of you or weakly forward. Underhand, overhand, it doesn't feel real and it just impossible to throw far or accurately. I guess the bright side is the only place you would ever throw the ball is in the "play area" that has various targets which will keep you occupied for about two minutes (throwing and using a catapult thingy) before you never go back. The Quest version has two other modes ("Goalie wars" and "Target Clash") that probably used throwing (or even kicking) more which they dropped for the PSVR2 version. (It also seems there's an unimplemented placeholder for "training sessions" in the main mode as it's a menu that just says you don't have any saved and has no indication how to get any).
I guess this is minor compared to the other technical problems, but as well as open-handing the ball they also implemented grabbing it, and punching it away -- but there's no point to them. In real football, you might choose to punch the ball out of necessity as it's traveling too fast and you can't catch it cleanly. That is not the case here -- you can one-hand slap (or even backhand) even the hardest driven shot, it makes no difference. You also palm balls with one hand (?!?) by pressing R2 to catch them but why you would ever do that other than to hear the weird sound it makes I don't know. There are no rebounds or handling required. Open handing everything is definitely the way to go, as it covers the most space.
Anyway, there you have it. Assuming they patch the stuttering, this is a very limited game with some strange gameplay decisions. As of now. it's an avoid at all costs.

I just finished Medium and I must say the pull of the story was excellent. As soon as the scene with Jack occurred, I was all in. I needed to know where the story went. The pacing, atmosphere, sound (play with headphones as recommended), and unique concept (two dimensions at once) were delivered in an excellent manner.

I enjoyed checking every item and reading every file. The mysteries became very intriguing and kept me enthralled. Sadness was a very interesting character and trying to find her name so you could set her free was a very strong plot point. The Maw's delivery was excellent. Voiced by Troy Baker, it always felt disturbing and one of the only enemies that made me feel anxious as I ran from it. You really couldn't make any mistakes to get away as it truly, desperately wanted to catch you. The mysteries of what it was and where it came from also pulled me in.

I was a little confused about Thomas's office in Niwa but then I noticed the circle of salt around his desk. That combined with his memory stating something was coming tells me that he survived the Maw attack by surrounding himself in salt I'm a hurry (broken salt container in his desk). Some time later it seems he called Marianne and went into the spirit world using the symbols in the secret room (Marianne said those symbols felt like a curtain blowing in the wind). It makes sense given Thomas decided he was going to find his other half after setting Marianne's arrival in motion. It also makes sense on why he was nowhere to be found. The after credits proves it was the real Thomas in the spirit world as he was holding the watch his wife gave him on their 10 year anniversary. Again I love the details.

Now for the small problems I have with the story. The third act just kind've threw in some new plot device without much set up. Henry literally came out of nowhere but was central to everything that happened. This as opposed to Richard who was set up for some time before the big reveal. Even going back as seeing the memory of the nurse killing him makes sense once you learn where the Maw came from. The Maw's first victim was the man who helped create it. But Henry just showed up, attacked Thomas, set fire to the house, trapped spirit Thomas, then died. His short encounter was near impossible to predict and just as easily disappeared leaving us dealing with the damage dealt. Henry's involvement just felt rushed compared to everything else. There's so many unexplained parts of his involvement.

I get that he doing Thomas by noticing the article of Richard's vegetative state. His motivation seems to be that he's a dedicated government agent and just loves his job?

Why did he want Thomas to show his power rather then just arresting him?

How did Henry lay that trap for spirit Thomas without knowing what Thomas could actually do?

How did spirit Thomas even survive? I'm guessing real Thomas killed Henry before the beast could finish spirit Thomas but also left him trapped in Henry's mind.

Then there's Lillianne. Where was she living this entire time? How did she survive? Was she just checking the lake every day for years? She had some very distinct bandages on her legs and arms. Seems like a detail that should have an explanation.

Was Sadness just a manifestation of Lily, like the Maw? Is she like the child inside your mind that if Marianne sent away, would've put Lily in a vegetative state? Why was she missing an arm? I think trying to discover her death was a draw of the early game just to find out she's just a red herring there to motivate Marianne into finding the truth. I particularly liked the part where you're following the blinking lights as Sadness' only was to tell you where to go. It felt very supernatural and ghostly which helped set the tone. It put a damper later when you find out her role in all this.

As you can see most of my questions are elements introduced in the third act. The ending although faded to black didn't leave many options. Marianne killing herself would solve nothing. Killing Lily and sending away the May is the only solution. Some claim Thomas might've showed up and killed Lily to fulfill the dream, but he's not even in their realm. Since Marianne is no idiot, she either killed Lily or didn't shoot anyone. If she didn't kill Lily then maybe she thought of another way to get rid of the Maw. But obviously we have no idea so it's have to assume Lily is dead and now Thomas continues his search for his spirit half who may now have died protecting Marianne. Great story that could've been a masterpiece. Still a great game overall.

Long post (sorry in advanced).
Seeking advice on the best next steps for my situation. I (43f) have been married to my husband (41m) for 17 years (together for over 20 years). During those 17 years we separated at year 4 (lasted about a year) because I felt like he wasn’t meeting my expectations and sharing the mental load with our 3 young children at the time (he would often play video games after he got home from work instead of helping with the kids). We tried marriage counseling prior to separating but ultimately spending the year apart (and divorcing) helped us grow to the point where we felt life was not worth living unless we lived it together. 1 month after our divorce we started dating again and we remarried on our original wedding anniversary the following year.
This new marriage was better than the first- we were kinder to one another, communicated our expectations and needs (or so I thought), and we brought another child into the world. Together we are raising 4 children (2 in college, one in high school, and 1 in elementary). I felt like we were always on the same page. We constantly talked about our dreams and life goals, we went on vacations, he encouraged me to go back to school and helped out by taking over the cooking and cleaning. I would ask him what he needed from me and he would communicate that to me. I truly felt like we were stronger than ever. This is the marriage people dream of.
Last year, my husband encouraged me to go back to school to continue perusing my career goals. I got into a doctoral program for my field and he said he would support me however I needed. He works full time from home- and I work 2 part time jobs (one of which helps pay for my schooling). Well, I’m 1 year in with my program and about 3 weeks ago (right before finals) he tells me he’s unhappy with our marriage and his needs are not being met. He told me he needs to feel desired and valued and wants to be prioritized, have more sex, and more help with the cooking and picking up our youngest from school/sports. I dropped everything (happily) and stepped up to the plate. We had sex daily, I went back to cooking for the family every night, picking our youngest up from school/practice, and I only did my school work during his working hours so my weekends were free to spend with him. I even told him I would be happy to quit chill altogether because none of that means anything to me if he’s not by my side.
After about 1 week of this he reveals he’s not in love with me anymore and that he’s emotionally checked out because he had been feeling like this for years. He said he doesn’t want to have sex anymore, and he doesn’t want me around all the time, and now I’m cooking too much and not giving him the opportunity to cook, too. When I asked him why he didn’t communicate this to me sooner, he said he didn’t want to “stress me out.” He acknowledges that his communication is and always has been poor (although I thought it was better this time in our marriage). I suggested couples counseling- we went to one session and he tells me he’s not interested in putting the work because it’s too hard when he’s not in love with me. I told him I will continue to show up for him and our marriage because I believe in us and this amazing life we built.
It’s been only 3 weeks since he told me he was unhappy and last night he said he’s done. We had a long talk about what brings him joy in life and he couldn’t think of anything. I think he may be having a midlife crisis and he’s projecting his unhappiness onto me. He agreed to continue to go to therapy to work on himself and figure out “who he is” but doesn’t want our marriage to complicate this process. So now we are trying to figure out what life looks like during this process. We are going to try and cohabitate for the next few years and coparent and I’m going to attempt to continue with school (and work) so I can better support myself and our kids when he leaves. I’m hoping during this time he will come back to me but this is where I’m probably delusional. I know I need to let him go but I still have hope that we can be amazing together. He said he’s broken and I deserve better.
I should also mention that he revealed to me that prior to him telling me he was unhappy he had been jacking off to pornhub 2x a day. He said he built up resentment towards me during this time because he wanted to instead have sex with me. I reminded him that he never communicated this need to me and I would have been happy to step it up.
I keep telling him “I wish I had known.” It hurts my heart to hear my partner was hurting for all this time. All he had to do was tell me what he needed and give me the opportunity to meet his needs. But he never gave me that choice. I’ve been completely blindsighted, and I am completely devastated. I still have hope. Should I even continue to try and save what he thinks is lost?

I finally did it!! Don't mean to be long winded....who the hell am I fooling I'm going to be long winded. Finally got my Marisa to Master. Been fighting in the streets since SF2, I can remember being 12 years old walking up to the machine seeing a crowd around it an when I finally could see between everyone, thinking to myself "wow 6 buttons how the hell do you play with that many buttons". Popped my quarter in an waited my turn, of course I picked Blanka (because what 12 year old doesnt like a green beast). Got totally destroyed, who knew that random day would lead to me making this post 30+ years later.
Since then I've played every SF game, but USF4 I definitely played the most, at one point I was well over 140K online fights, I've played that game for 8 hours stretches an still wasn't tired of it. Was never truly "that good". Got Ryu, Ken, Akuma & Gouken to about B rank. Played it for 10 years solid, I'm not the type of person to play many other games so it was exclusively SF an occasionally God Of War if a new one was released.
Then SF5 came out, played that for countless hours, but Ultra Gold was the highest I could get with the only character I used, Ryu. After playing SF that long muscle memory becomes your best friend an worst enemy. I was never crazy about any other fighting games, Tekken is cool just never really like the dynamics of it, Mortal Kombat is way over the top.
Fast foward to SF6, finally told myself I was going to make a change an not use a Shoto, saw Marisa command grab an said "YUPPPP that's who I'm using". Been using her since release day, it was tough unlearning the Shoto muscle memory as well as the new game dynamics. So I played alot of Casual, the placement matches put me at about mid platinum an I just chipped at it from there. It kind of helped that the game was new so people were just learning to deal with her superman punch etc. Worked my way to D4 an was there for months I wouldnt play Ranked because I was scared to lose points an rank down. My 15 year old son would keep telling me play ranked, I would do a couple matches lose then go right back to Casual. Finally the last couple months I snuck into D5. Starting fighting against more Master rank players an realize they arent as scary as I thought they would be.
So last night I made the final push, I would mess around on my phone while the match loaded it an made a conscious effort to not focus my eyes on my opponent rank, while still out the corner of my eye watching how much health they have left. An I wouldnt look at my points when I won, to help with me not being nervous. Then boom around 11:45 pm last night those magic words popped on my screen after I beat a AKI. I've been smiling like a kid on Christmas ever since. I fuckin did it!!
I'm at work doing nothing for the next 6 hours feel free to ask me anything, Im far from the greatest SF player, hell I'm ok with being the lost ranked Master player. But its nice that I can't rank back down now lol.

I'm having trouble beating the Data Luxord fight in the LimitCut Episode in the KH3 DLC. Or, not so much trouble as it is I can't progress past a certain point in the fight. All of the mechanics of the fight go off without a hitch except the one where Luxord summons six (6) cards in quick succession, two at a time, charged with various elements (lightning is usually first) that you have to either dodge or destroy with the same element before they are able to damage you.
 
When this mechanic happens, much of the time, he'll summon the first two cards and I can see the element they're charged with. However, the cards do not move. They sit there until destroyed and nothing else happens. Some other cards may pop out of nowhere and land face down on the field, but that's it.
 
I can't interact with them, Luxord doesn't come up again, and I have to wait for the timer to run out because there's no way to end the fight otherwise. Sometimes it does go off normally, but when he does the mechanic again, same problem. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, how is it fixed?

So for sake of saving myself retyping, this is my review of the company. I will quickly answer and questions. I just dont know where to go at this point.
I will begin with two simple facts; Topline was recommended to me by a competitor of theirs to make sure the job was done the right way the first time, and that this is my first google review.
Salesman was pushy but professional, so he was a salesman. I waited for the estimate all day even though he said it would be to me in an hour, ended up texting him around 8:30/9 pm asking about it. He called me, he was very apologetic and excited, and a little strange but I got the estimate. We took our time looking at other companies and finally settled on Topline. We were then told the unit we were quoted for was out of stock and were offered a “free” upgrade which made us a bit leery. I told my salesman I’d would rather have another company come out just to verify my air handler was functioning before me made our decision. He told me that was part of the install and we signed.
April 19th- Dylan and his apprentice came out to install and did great. Nice guys, pretty knowledgeable, surprised they matched the outdoor unit with our indoor unit. Also forgot to set the unit for 2 ton, adjust the O/B setting on the air handler, and apparently had no idea there was to be a diagnostic on the air handler because it wasn’t (this becomes important later). Heat worked great when they left but too cold to test AC.
On the next warm day I tried to use AC and it did not work. Frost protection on air handler shut system down in less than 5 mins of operation.
May 2- Sebastian was sent out to be here between 12-4. Didn’t arrive until sometime around 5. Very professional and intelligent, unable to diagnose the problem, was told to add 7 pounds of refrigerant, and remove the frost protection sensor on my air handler. Luckily noticed the 3 ton setting. Left my home around 9 pm. I was in the attic and outside with him the entire time.
May 3- I took it upon myself to call the manufacturer of the new unit to confirm it was compatible with my system. He believes it is way over charger.
May 5- Igor came out, again professional and intelligent. I suggest on the phone prior we at least attempt to remove some refrigerant before they lose money on this job and have to give me a new unit. We agree, the coils do not freeze and at 6 pounds the AC was working… for the night. The next day the AC could not keep up and lower the temperature in the house.
May 7- Igor came out tried everything he could, but landed on an issue with my air handler and was instructed to purchase a new TXV valve for it. I was told initially that my air handler was going to be checked out, to confirm it was all in working order. That was never done so we really have no way to know if the TXV is a problem, or was a problem. Unfortunately this week has been incredibly busy for Igor and I will not see him again until 5/17.
An entire month has passed without me able to use this unit, well beyond the chance of me being able to prevent payment from the financing company. We have gotten no return calls from the office with any of the issues we’ve had. They’ve been paid, so I assume they don’t care enough about the customer to ensure that their service works. Only the technicians have been willing and able to communicate. If we ended up paying out of pocket for an expensive part and it doesn’t fix the problem, well then we obviously have to escalate this.

I’ve been reading recently about the recent fiasco with the Ligue 1 red picks. I myself stopped playing the game after the TOTY Messi incident, although I imagine that the recent incident is much more pervasive given the amount of time that the “glitched odds” were available.
In any case, I don’t need to rehash why the above mistakes are bad for the health of the game, which has been discussed in detail on this Reddit and by content creators (NickRTFM). Overall, we all understand that the gameplay has been very weak, the game has become increasingly pay to win (with the most ridiculous store packs in history), and there is no indication of reverse course on the part of EA.
If you want to actually affect meaningful change on EA, you need to stop playing the game entirely and uninstall it. I think this is particularly hard for the player base at this time because TOTS has been one of the most fun times to play FIFA in the past. This is of course not mentioning the addiction / rat race that many of the community suffer from, largely driven by the quasi-gambling aspect of packs. However, if you continue to support this game with your time (even with a points boycott), then EA’s player base metrics will still be favorable and they will see no reason to change course. If we all put this game down for one summer, kept it off our computers and consoles, then that would bring into question the potential impact on the next title in the developers eyes.
As I mentioned, I myself quit the game completely during TOTY after being a dedicated weekend league player for the preceding 2-3 years. I was also a regular points purchaser ($200-$300 per game cycle). Although there is no alternative football game of even remotely similar quality, there are plenty of games of other genres with strong development teams that would be more deserving of your time, money, and attention.
In short, the player base still has the power to change the game, but the most effective route would be a total boycott for the next 3-4 months (play no game play modes, not even pro clubs or kick off, and completely uninstall), which would send a strong message to EA ahead of next years game and force them to make changes. The timing is perfect because there is a competing FIFA branded title in development (which will likely be shit, let’s be real), which will place additional commercial pressure on EA to maintain its current near 100% market share. Needless to say, you should also not pre order or buy EA fc 25 unless EA publicly addresses these issues / commits to building a strong user experience.
TL;DR - uninstall EA FC now and take a few months long break if you want to force the developer to address core gameplay issues. They are nothing without the player base, so we should leave an impact on both their finances(boycott points and the new game), and their operational metrics (daily active users) for a meaningful period of time.

Thank you Julie, it was only a week ago here on the historic Cape Canaveral launch site, that the reconstructed Saturn V rocket was launched by the UNSC International Space and Aeronautics Division on the two thousand and fifty first anniversary of the original Apollo 11 mission. On board The reconstructed rocket were astronauts Fleet Admiral Adam Vir, head of the UNSC deep space exploration division, Captain Warren Richards five year veteran and historical aeronautics expert, and Mary Chavez, six year shuttle pilot veteran, and communications specialist.
The reconstructed Saturn V rocket took off thirty minutes behind schedule at 10:03 GMT July 16 after delays attributed to engineering standbys. However, reports by UNSC investigation early this morning indicate that the delays were called for by engineering head Jade Clein who noticed something strange during her final checks of the Saturn V recreated rocket.
In an interview early today, flight director, Aaliyah Seif of the Apollo re-creation mission informed outlets that there was evidence of attempted tampering on the hull of the Saturn V rocket. The tampering case in the shape of these small silver tape strips covering loosened bolts along one of the Saturn V side panels. Engineers stated that the tape was not heat resistant and would have burned off in time to rattle the bolts loose and, likely, cause a devastating spin that would destroy the rocket.
While this attempted tampering was thwarted, the mission would only become more dire. A sudden and shocking report by Mericanda News 5 showed an uncut image of an unknown alien hybrid woman claiming that the UN President had ordered the attempted assassination of Admiral Vir, in conjunction with an audio recording by Admiral Colter Massie, Head of the Galactic intelligence division and known isolationist, that admitted to the attempted assassination of Admiral Vir, and the acquisition of twenty Thunderhawk’s, which were used to harry the Saturn V on its way to the moon. Admiral Kelly, longtime friend of Admiral Vir, corroborated the story, saying she caught General Massie just after he ordered the deployment of the twenty Thunderhawk’s. During their conversion, he attempted to kill her, before being detained by two members of Admiral Vir's crew, and was later seen being escorted into custody by Military Police.
Indeed, footage has been captured from the hull of the Saturn V, showing approximately twenty Thunderhawk’s attempting to destroy the rocket while Rundi remote piloted drones and an unknown group of what appear to be racing jets, fought back to delay the attack, while word was sent to the UNSC to deploy F-90 Darkfire pilots to assist. This all after communications between Houston and the rocket were sabotaged shortly after leaving orbit. The F-90 Darkfire pilots were able to arrive on time to rescue the rocket, though a hole was reportedly torn in the hull, sucking Admiral Vir out into space. Luckily, he was later recovered and returned to his ship without any injuries. Patch teams were then able to repair the torn hull and the astronauts completed their mission landing to crowds on the moon and returning to earth on time, landing in the Pacific Ocean only nine miles away from the waiting ship.
All three astronauts were recovered and are reported to be in good health.
The investigation into the UN president's involvement is still ongoing at this time, however preliminary reports from the Global Bureau of Investigation suggest evidence is both staggering and damning to the current UN president, who earlier today, attempted to cut all ties to the sabotage efforts, saying she was framed. Political experts report that, even assuming her innocence, she will likely not last to the end of her term.
International News Network was able to interview Admiral Vir shortly after his landing while still on board the rescuing ship UNSS Victory.
Here is what the Admiral had to say:
"I find it... Really very disheartening that someone we all trusted, and someone that we all should have looked up to could do something like this. It really is a heinous demonstration of what political corruption can lead people to do."
"And how do you feel, personally about all of this?"
"Personally, I... well to be honest I am hurt and appalled. Not to mention that I fear for the safety of my family and my friends. Every day I wonder if my involvement with them is going to get someone I love killed... The thought haunts me, but I hope after all of this is over I... and all of us can breathe a little easier."
"Were you scared?"
"I don't think that even needs to be a question. Of course I was scared, getting sucked out of your spaceship isn't ideal."
"What do you hope will happen now?"
"I hope that justice can be upheld to those who deserve it."
"What do you have to say to the UN president."
”...”
”So?”
"I have nothing to say. Wouldn't want to waste the air.”

What followed would be one of the largest scandals in recent political history. At some point an unknown number of classified government documents was leaked onto the internet, and after that it was all over for the Presidency. Thousands of enterprising humans, and aliens alike, viewed the documents to discover all the underhanded and dirty things which had been going on in the UN governmental body over the past few years. Forensic accounting experts (mostly Tesraki), uncovered plenty of fiscal tampering which shed light on plenty of isolationist related projects and bank accounts. There was even evidence that they had something to do with the original assassination attempt against Admiral Vir so many months ago. The drama had even managed to capture the attention of Rundi political experts and Vrul computer science geniuses, and together they unearthed a world of unfathomable, but not unexpected corruption. The process to remove the UN president from office was probably one of the fastest movements of human government ever seen by UN congressional leaders, who were likely trying their very best to distance themselves from association with the president, who despite not being the only one involved, had become the political scapegoat for everyone else that had a supposed link with isolationism.
Even the VP fell under suspicion and was watched closely for the rest of his term.
Admiral Massie and the UN President were placed under arrest and set up for court dates in the nearing future, though everyone saw a long and arduous litigation process ahead. Even Ramirez's family had filed for damages against the government after the news came to light, confirming that their son had been shot as collateral in one of the UN presidents plans to assassinate Admiral Vir. They settled out of court to the tune of an unknown, but impressive sum of money.
No one really knew how much, but a couple months later Ramirez's younger sister was seen training at one of the most prestigious Olympic academies on earth.
Ramirez himself was suddenly able to afford housing on the moon in a condo just next door to his best friend, though no one else inquired further.
The Rundi chairwoman came forward with her own investigation, admitting to being suspicious for a long time though she feared accusations without proper proof. Admiral Vir was seen having lunch with her not so many months after the events took place, suggesting that the trust between the two of them had not been completely dissolved. With much of the isolationist element gone from government, public policy began to lean heavily towards integration with the alliance. The occasional isolationist demonstration or protest was held, but none of them managed to gain traction.
Admiral Vir was finding himself more important than ever, though it was to his chagrin that his ship was grounded for the intervening months while the investigation continued.
No one was entirely sure what the future held.

Admiral Vir stepped into Admiral Kelly's office. The last time he had actually visited her here had been over a few years ago, before his promotion to captain of the Harbinger. It seemed so distant now, and he never expected to walk into her office with a star on his shoulder. She stood as he entered, and the two of them shook hands, ignoring all the stuffy formalities that usually come with the meeting of two military officers.
The wall behind her was decorated with a myriad of metals and awards she had received over her career, and he couldn't help but note the slight tinge of grey he could see forming in her hair. He knew that feeling, he was going prematurely white much to his chagrin. She stood and the two of them shook hands.
"Vir."
"Kelly."
She motioned him to sit, and he sat, sighing lightly as he had been on his feet all day consulting with political figures and other members of the UNSC.
"A strange couple months wouldn't you say?”
"Tell me about it."
Kelly reached under her desk and withdrew an amber bottle which she placed between them,
"I always forget; do you drink?"
"On occasion."
"Well consider this an occasion."
She said, popping off the top and pouring two glasses for them. She handed his across the desk and he leaned back in his seat cupping the cool glass in both hands.
She swirled the amber liquid around in her glass,
"So what are your plans after all this?”
He took a sip of water warmed by the burning liquid,
"Hoping things will go back to normal and I can go back to traveling the galaxy."
Kelly grunted,
"A simple man with simple motivations."
He laughed,
"Sometimes I think a stupid man with simple motivations."
She chuckled then grew serious,
"A lot of people make the mistake of assuming simple people don't have the intelligence to match. Some people assume that trusting means gullible means dumb. Just because we are trusting and expect others to do the right thing is not necessarily a fault. I believe there is a kind of beauty in assuming the fundamental goodness of humanity."
Admiral Vir shook his head,
"How can you after seeing what we have seen?”
"How can you not?"
She shrugged,
"We always knew that politicians were corrupt, but think about everything else we have seen."
Admiral Vir nodded slowly,
"The enthusiasm for the Apollo 11 recreation mission, the people who flew up to help us. All of those people who went digging through years of information just to uncover the truth."
She raised her glass,
"Precisely. Goodness in humanity is all around us, but we tend to overlook the good in favor of the bad."
She placed her hat on the desk and sighed,
"It is up to good people to keep their goodness going even when it might seem easier to give into the bad. I have and will always believe in the fundamental good of humanity. Some may call it naive, or even stupid. Others have said I have a romanticized view of a species that is fundamentally broken."
She turned her head to look out the window, a contemplative expression on her face before turning back to look at Adam.
"You understand me, I think."
He nodded slowly.
"People need to be believed in. You tell someone for long enough that they are fundamentally bad at their core and they will begin to believe you. For thousands of years pessimists have gotten it into our heads that we are no better than animals, worse even since animals don't fight in wars. But I believe that is wrong, I have seen people, I have met people, and I have interacted with people who prove to me that humanity cannot just be fundamentally bad or else these people wouldn't exist."
She tapped her nails against the glass,
"I think it is easier to corrupt purity than wash away a stain."
He listened quietly as she continued.
"Humans are born good, Adam, and life stains us. We aren't born stained while some of us are wiped clean."
She shook her head,
"Doesn't make sense to me."
She caught him with a look, pinning him to the spot with her intense stare,
"People like you convince me of this every day."
"Me!?..."
She held up a hand.
"Adam Vir, I am convinced that the best outcome this universe ever had, was when a happy go lucky science fiction freak was lucky enough to be the first man to meet aliens. Any other way things would have gone horribly wrong."
She leaned across her desk,
"The universe needs men and women like you, and not only that but the universe needs people who are going to support men and women like you."
She sat back,
"Which is why I have made a decision…"
He raised an eyebrow in curiosity, not entirely sure where this could be going.
She smiled,
"I have decided to run for UN President."
He nearly spit his mouthful of expensive scotch onto the table, but managed to choke it mostly down.
Eyes wide he set his glass down,
"Are you serious?”
She smiled,
"Seriously serious."
"Well shit, you have my vote for sure."
He raised his glass to her,
"I couldn't think of a better outcome."

Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

Hi everyone, I’m using a throwaway for this because I don’t want this attached to my main account. I hope this isn’t too blog-y or anything for this sub, I’ve just really needed to get all of this off my chest and I’ve been thinking about it a lot over the past few days. I also hope it can be a warning for anyone who sees it and has gone too far into the online system community.
This is a fucking novel and I apologize in advance. I just have a lot I want to get off my chest, and I also hope that it could potentially be educational to anyone in the system community hate-reading this sub.
Quick warning for brief mentions of suicidal ideation and self harm.
I’m 23 (turning 24) this year, and I started to believe I had DID in 2019, when I was 18 (about a month or so away from turning 19). I had just started college. For context, writing has been my main hobby ever since early childhood, and I was also into roleplaying my original characters. I was EXTREMELY connected to my characters, I basically thought about them all the time. I spent the majority of my free time developing them, thinking about them, and writing or roleplaying. I even wrote and roleplayed during high school in the middle of class.
I started to believe I had DID whenever I talked to someone else about it and started to feel like my connection to my characters was abnormal. My main thought process was that I was so attached to them that it actually affected how I behaved. For example, if I was fixated on a certain character, I would find myself acting more like them or dressing more like them. I also started to over-analyze past behavior; the main thing that came to mind were the times when I was 14 and I would “talk” to my characters in my head, and there was also a particular instance where my handwriting would change to look more like how I imagined a certain character’s handwriting.
I also started to overthink because I had both childhood trauma and (then-recent) trauma from my teenage years, and during those events, I always used writing and roleplaying to cope. I was already prone to dissociation and had an extremely overactive imagination.
Within a day or so of starting to think I had DID, I “switched.” Basically one of my characters “fronted” for a little over an hour, and then I came-to with barely any memory of that past hour. Of course, prior to thinking I had DID, I never had any large memory gaps or loss of memory that caused me or anyone else any type of concern. The only things I ever struggled to remember were things related to my trauma, which is normal (to my knowledge anyways).
So after this I became pretty convinced I had DID, and then I discovered DissociaDID within a few days of this. I thought she was a legitimate source of information and an accurate portrayal of DID, because before her, the only other portrayals of DID that I saw were either horror movie shit or very extreme cases. I saw myself a lot in her because she was around my age, queer (like me), and a little alternative in her presentation. So I binged her videos and this only further fed into my delusion.
This was all within the span of a week. I had therapy on that Friday so I talked to my therapist about it. I’d also like to note that my therapist had been seeing me pretty consistently since I was 12, and had never caught on to anything that could signal that I had DID. When I told him about everything I was experiencing, we looked at the DSM entry for it together, and he basically told me that he couldn’t diagnose me and he had no experience treating DID, but if I was experiencing everything that I said I was experiencing, I should try to find a specialist or a psychiatrist. He gave me a few numbers but I was too scared to contact them. I also never brought up DID or my “alters” again with him because I was too embarrassed to, even though I continued to see him for the next year or so.
I also got more involved with the system community, specifically on tumblr. I didn’t use tiktok and I tried to keep my more personal accounts like instagram separate from what I was going through because I didn’t want my family to find out. The next few months were really turbulent and I went through a lot of “splitting” (aka making new roleplay characters and then becoming convinced they were actually alters making themselves known to me), and at one point, I stopped the medication I was taking for my anxiety and OCD because it was making me gain weight.
I’m bringing up my OCD because I believe it was relevant in the DID symptoms I was experiencing. My doctor and my therapist both agreed that I had OCD, and my doctor prescribed me seroquel to treat it. If you don’t know, seroquel is an antipsychotic. I started it a few months prior to the whole DID shit. I think my OCD is relevant because I have a history of intrusive thoughts, especially with anything causing me stress, and I think the instances of my “alters” talking to me were really just intrusive thoughts related to my OCD. Even now, I got an intrusive thought in a different voice that said “why don’t you believe I’m real?”.
Anyways, I quit taking seroquel and my mental health got terrible, and I ended up dropping out of college a few months into my very first semester, which was a decision exacerbated by the fact that I was convinced I had DID. This was towards the end of 2019, and then ofc 2020 happened. I spent the vast majority of 2020 completely isolated except for my immediate family, like a lot of people, and I didn’t have a job or school, so I was just locked inside on the internet all the time and further fueling my DID delusion. Ironically though, I stopped going on system tumblr at all, and around mid-2020 I discovered the DIDcringe sub. Which is pretty fucking hilarious because I was a little active on there for a few weeks or so, and I HATED system tiktok, I hated the endo shit, I was just shitting on these people because I thought I was better. I considered myself “medically recognized” and better than everyone in those tiktoks because I didn’t have fictives from anything outside of my own characters, I didn’t cosplay, and for what it’s worth I actually did research DID and was distressed by my symptoms. So I thought this made me genuine and different from the tiktok and tumblr fakers. I was really disgusted by the impact of the DID trend and even tried to make a tiktok account dedicated to spreading accurate information about DID, which again is fucking hilarious because I was neck deep in the delusion myself, but I ended up deleting the account before I even made my first video because I got paranoid about my family finding it.
I ended up going back to college in the fall, which ofc was all online because of the pandemic, and around that time I also tried to reach out and join some system discord servers that didn’t allow endos. Even the anti-endo ones were full of the kind of shit you see on this sub, and in both of the ones I joined, I was one of the older members even though I was only 20 at this point. So I left both of them because they were both terrible. Then some more shit happened, my mental health got terrible again, I dropped out of college again, my DID delusion kept getting worse but now I had a superiority complex about it because I thought that I was better than the teenagers with 500 MCYT fictives.
2021 rolled around and my mental health was all over the place, I got a job, I planned on going back to college but I was in a shitty situation with therapy and I was getting worse and worse. Basically, I stopped seeing my old therapist (at his recommendation) because I wanted to try a different EMDR therapist. I started going to the different clinic, but they were worried about giving me EMDR because I told them about the DID symptoms and they had no experience with treating someone with DID. I stayed in regular therapy but I barely saw my therapist, and they ended up discharging me because I missed too many appointments due to the fact that they were online and my connection was usually shitty. So I had no therapy and I was getting worse until I almost attempted suicide in May 2021 and ended up in the ER. Part of the reason why I was in such a bad state was because I felt so alone and scared about what I thought was DID, and I was terrified of never being able to have a normal life.
After the ER, I ended up being able to go to an intensive outpatient group therapy program, which helped me a lot, but again I never talked about DID in group therapy because I was too embarrassed. I told my new psychiatrist about what I was experiencing, and he diagnosed me with PTSD, but he didn’t diagnose me with DID because he wasn’t sure if I had it. This didn’t deter me though because I was two years deep into the delusion that I had it, that I knew my own brain better than doctors, that nothing else could explain my symptoms. And I also thought that he couldn’t diagnose me after one brief visit anyways, so I continued to think I had DID.
I ended up going back to college that fall, and I did really well. Around 2022 I started to get involved with the more “scientific” side of system tumblr and followed a lot of anti-endo blogs. At one point I even made a syscourse blog and got kind of hyperfixated on it which was extremely bad for my mental health. I read a lot of papers about DID and even tried to read a book about it (First Person Plural) but my attention span was just all over the place and I couldn’t focus on it. But I considered myself relatively well-informed about DID, which makes this all even more embarrassing to me, because I couldn’t see my own bullshit.
The worst was when I started delving into RAMCOA uncritically, and due to the way the community talks about it, I started to become scared that I experienced something RAMCOA-adjacent and couldn’t remember. Specifically, I became fixated on this memory of going to my grandma’s church when I was three, and I couldn’t remember what I ended up doing during bible school, so I became convinced something bad could have happened. I had dread surrounding the memory, which I took as a sign that something bad happened, even though the dread was probably just from all the conspiracy theory shit I was reading about children being ritualistically tortured.
There’s not really a climatic end to all of this. I just stopped “switching” more and more, stopped hearing alters, and even when I did think I switched, I wasn’t fully disconnected from myself and still had most if not all of my memories of the switch. I noticed more and more that, during switches, my alters never acted completely independently of me, even if I was convinced I was someone else. For example, my fight or flight response is typically fawning, and during fights, my supposed alters (even the “angry” or assertive ones) would always fawn and act like me when I was panicked. I chalked it all up to me being “co-conscious” and “bleeding through.” But I could never do something completely different from what I would normally do, like yell at people or start fights or physically self harm.
My long term boyfriend and I broke up in 2023 and I also fell out of a friendship in 2023, which were both really stressful and upsetting events for me, but I started to think I didn’t have DID around this time because, if I was going through something this stressful and basically felt awful in every aspect of my life, wouldn’t I be splitting or at the very least switching more? But I wasn’t at all, if anything all of my symptoms started to go away even more. I stopped thinking about it and it all just kind of stopped in general.
I think there was a combination of things happening that made me convinced I had DID. I already had PTSD and dissociative tendencies, so that didn’t help at all. I’ve had dissociative episodes so bad that I couldn’t move. I have other mental illnesses that could explain the intrusive thoughts that I thought were alters. I have both body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria, as well as generally just a lot of self-loathing and hating myself, which fueled my desire to be literally anyone other than myself. I have an extremely vivid imagination and let my anxiety get carried away a lot. I also think I was just young.
So that’s how I lost five years of my life to thinking that I had a severe mental illness that I almost definitely don’t actually have. It’s had a very negative impact on my life. It made me isolate myself from my family and friends, the stress from it made me drop out of college twice. It made me suicidal. I don’t drive because, when I had time to start working on learning how to drive and getting my license, I was terrified I would switch behind the wheel and get into an accident, so now I’m nearing 24 and I can’t drive. It made me delay getting testosterone for my gender dysphoria because I thought that my dysphoria could be linked to just having alters of different genders, so I shouldn’t have transitioned because it could have been DID-related. It made me scared to write and roleplay because I thought I would end up developing introjects of more of my characters. It made me dissociate more heavily and actively indulge in dissociating and triggering myself because I thought it made me more “valid.” It also just made me so disconnected from myself that I barely even knew who I was for five years, I was just a shell of who I used to be and fucking miserable, while actively forcing myself to be other people to cope with the fact I hated myself. Which is ofc the worst way to cope with hating yourself.
I’m just so embarrassed now because I genuinely thought I was better than this and that I was above all of the people misinformed about DID. I even considered myself relatively well-educated on it. I guess that just shows that we can convince ourselves of wild shit. I wish I didn’t spend five years of my life actively making my mental illnesses so much worse, and I wish I didn’t fall into a community that not only enabled but encouraged it.

TW: Reference to past abuse of my brother
My (14M) foster brother, Jed (12M) comes from a pretty rough background. Luckily he's been out of it and in therapy for a few years, and is overall doing pretty well. If I thought any of this would make him backslide I would absolutely suck it up. But my parents are always worried about him feeling loved and secure, almost past the point of practicality, while not giving a damn about me feeling loved or secure.
So far, he's lived with us for a year and will likely live with us forever or will be adopted by my parents. They're seeking parental rights termination right now, and I really hope it goes through. I'm sulking right now about this whole thing, but I don't want my brother tossed around the system again.
My parents definitely worry about Jed's mental state all of the time and mine... never. I did try bringing this imbalance of attention in family counseling towards the start, but the therapist just sort of smirked and told my parents that 'these sort of issues are common for biological children who need to adjust, especially if they've been given more than their share of attention previously.' We've had other issues with him, but my parents definitely agreed with him there.
Jed has gotten into a sport where most of the competitions and trials match up with mine, and they go to Jed's every single time. Even when they agreed to go to a particular one of mine. The only time they even compromised was the biggest competition of my last season, when my mother came to my competition and Dad went to Jed's (normal) match.
It's gotten to the point that I'm happy I'm so far away from people during competitions, because I'm crying during more than half of them. My teammates have noticed I'm upset at practice and been really sweetly concerned about it, but I don't want to ruin anyone's days by being seen crying over nothing during a meet.
It's frustrating as blazes and I don't know what to do. I've complained about it, but always tried to keep it out of Jed's earshort before now. But last night at dinner I snapped at my parents and said they were being unfair and spoiling Jed at my expense. This kicked off a whole argument and they've said they won't come to anything of mine until I learn some humility.
I talked to my friends about it, but they're obviously going to be biased in my favor, so I wanted to check a broader opinion. I'm terrified I hurt Jed, but I didn't see him seem particularly hurt, just offended, so I mainly just feel frustrated and self-pitying and kind of scared to go home.
I'll also say my parents focused on my sister (21F) a lot when she was living with us because there's this whole thing about eldest daughters. Which I get in theory, but guys. My sister is a total sweetheart who has done no communal chores in her life. She isn't oppressed. I cook for all of us, clean, and handle the laundry, and I have no objections to it, but I'd love some of the credit she's getting for nothing but gender, birth order, and tumblr posts. They mainly just told me I'm spoiled but occasionally said I'd get more attention once I was the only kid in the house, something that lasted all of thirteen months. Am I the AH here?
