Vegan loaded nachos!
Tried to post this a couple weeks ago when I made it, but I think there was a glitch on the app or something. Also know this will be rejected from other subs for some reason XD (they always are).
I ordered loaded nachos from an Indian/ Mexican fusion place and was disappointed. So I made my own, and they turned out awesome! Chana masala, Violife sour cream (first time trying, and I think it's a good sub. Texture is more like yogurt, though), Violife mozz (it's just OK. Only vegan cheese I had on hand. But worked well here), homemade tomato salsa, cilantro lime jalapeño sauce, hot sauce, red and white onion, and cilantro.
This was definitely a 10/10. Best thing I've eaten for awhile.

2024.05.16 16:07 Notadabatahu What is the combination of vegetables to be used in Sambhar to be eaten with idli?

I am from Bengal and my mom have no idea how to cook South Indian food btw.
Basically we will be making idli and sambhar, sambhar for the first time. My mom usually use YouTube as a guide but it seems different people has used different stuff in sambhar. Of course most of the ingredient like onions, tomatoes, sambhar masala, tamarind, dal, etc are the same but they differ when it comes to the vegetables. Some puts potatoes, others don't. Some add brinjals (eggplants), others don't. Some are using lau (bottle gourd) or pumpkins too. Drumsticks seem to be common. Which combination should we use? Is any of the above compulsory? I frequent a South Indian restaurant but their sambhar never contains anything apart from beans and onions. So, which one is it?

Etymology and other trivia:
  • Jariot is a portmanteau of jari (Japanese for "gravel") and chariot.
  • The Gray in Gray-Bronze Dragon seems to be a contraction of great.
  • Hybridrive is a portmanteau of hybrid and drive—a mass-storage hardware device in which the mechanism for reading and writing data is integrated with the mechanism for storing data.
  • Releaslayer is a portmanteau of release (the OCG term for Tributing), lily, Lilith, and slayer.
  • Inko is the Japanese name for the true parrots
  • Mekuru is Japanese for "to turn over" or "to flip over," and is the OCG term for excavating.
  • Ku comes from baku—a Japanese supernatural being resembling a tapir that is said to devour nightmares.
  • Cyberspyce is a portmanteau of Cyberse, cyberspace, spy, and spice.
  • Hotpot is likely based on BellaBot—a versatile service robot with a cat-like appearance for serving guests in hotels, restaurants, bars, and events. A hotpot is a mixture of meat and vegetables, sometimes including sliced potatoes, cooked slowly in a covered dish inside an oven, or in a special heated pan.
  • Demeter is the Olympian goddess of the harvest and agriculture, presiding over crops, grains, food, and the fertility of the earth.
  • Garam masala is an aromatic mixture of ground spices used in Indian cuisine. The rest of the Cyberspyce monsters are mostly named after spices used in this mixture.
  • Dark matter is a theoretical substance existing in space that does not give off any light.
  • The yell used in Dead-Yell's name is Japanese wasei-eigo for cheering (esp. for a school sports team).
  • Craydoll seems to be a portmanteau of cradle and doll.
  • Hazardoll is a portmanteau of hazard and doll.
  • Freya (Fureiya) is a pun on furē (the Japanese pronunciation of "hurray"), a phrase commonly shouted during cheering, and Freya or Freyja—one of the preeminent goddesses in Norse mythology.
  • Gareking is a portmanteau of gareki (Japanese for "rubble" or "debris") and king. Machine (Mashin) is a pun on the Japanese word mashin (meaning "devil" or "demon god").
  • Geist is German for "ghost."
  • Imperial Guard of the Wise Emperor has a similar name and effect as the OCG's Imperial Guard of the Flame Emperor (Royal Firestorm Guards in the TCG).
  • Tribern is a portmanteau of tribe (the OCG term for "Type") and wyvern.
  • Fadrawnir is a portmanteau of Fafnir (a lindworm from Norse mythology) and draw.
  • Sumskull (Tasudokuro) is a pun on the Japanese word tasu ("to add numbers").
  • Swellskull (Masudokuro) is a pun on the Japanese idiom masumasu ("more and more").
  • Beidai is based on Daikokuten—one of the Seven Lucky Gods and the god of commerce and prosperity. He is sometimes considered the patron of cooks, farmers and bankers, and a protector of crops. He is also often depicted as riding on a rice bale, hence the kanji for "rice" appearing in the card name. Beidai is also used in the Japanese phrase beidaitōryō, used to refer to the President of the United States of America, and fittingly this card's artwork is drawn in the style of an American comic book.
  • God Demon Beast - Garzett is a reference to God Mazinger—an anime, manga, and novel series created by manga artist Go Nagai.
  • Karipandrapery (Karīpandoraperī) is meant to sound like a typical name for a Hindu deity and is a portmanteau of Kali (a major Hindu goddess associated with time, change, creation, power, destruction, and death), karē-pan ("curry bread"), Pandora, and drapery (due to all the Cyberspyce cards also having a cloth motif).
  • Enigmata is a plural form of the word enigma. It is also a pun on the Latin māter ("mother").
  • Enigknight is a portmanteau of enigma and knight, while Zuwieger is a pun on Zuwijo (a character from the GO RUSH!! anime) and Sieger (German for "victor" or "champion").
  • Tribe-Mirror Dragon's name in Japanese (Toraibumirā Doragon) is made up of sounds from the other FGD-related monsters in this set: Gray-Bronze Dragon (Gureiburonzu Doragon), Water-Mirror Serpent, and Fusionic Tribern.
  • Spycecloth (Supaisukurōsu) is also a pun on cross.
  • Hybridrive Bumper is a reference to Jointech Bumper, which has a similar effect.

2024.05.14 22:41 Noressa Collecting Okra ideas before the season gets going

My 6 year old has discovered a love of Okra since she was 4, which has led to more and more plants. 2 years ago I had 2 plants, last year I had 6 plants, this year we're closer to 12. Knowing that last year I got 1-2 pounds per week during peak harvesting seasons, I'm looking for ideas for Okra to introduce her to more flavors.
So far I know fried okra (we have both done air fryer, oven baked and fried in an oil frier), this is by far the one we do the most often.
I don't have a gumbo recipe yet, but if anyone wants to share one you think would be good for a 6yo palate, I'm happy to try it!
Ideas I've come across so far:
Is there something else I'm missing? Also I'm not tied to any one recipe, this is trying to get a huge variety to give her different world tastes to a veggie she loves. I'm happy to take suggestions and hope this summer will be... fruitful!

2024.05.14 19:04 stayinyourlaneson First time watcher, just finished season 2... I’m gobsmacked.

Dearest gentle reader, oh my GOODNESS. I’ve been cooped up in my room for the past week and got really bored so I decided to watch the show. I knew for a while it had existed because it’s quite hard to not notice Simone Ashley and Charithra Chandran being praised to high heavens as leading and positive South Asian representation on my Instagram feed, and rightly so. It’s not often you see darker skinned South Asian girls on mainstream telly so it means a lot to the wider community. I also am a big fan of Derry Girls so naturally I love Nicola Coughlan (who on earth doesn’t?) and wanted to see her strengths and acting prowess beyond the hilarious Claire Devlin.
It should be known too that I actually watched Queen Charlotte around the time it came out despite my severe lack of Bridgerton knowledge. Which obviously means QC is one of my top 5 favourite characters. The amount of love I have for that show… but that’s another post, another time.
Anyways! Sorry, I talk a lot. I started watching Bridgerton on Friday evening. The first episode was… admittedly hard to get through. But I have a thing where pilots are always hard for me to get through so it would’ve been a miracle if the ton was any different. Season 1 generally was… okay? There were certainly moments where I was wanting to scream at Daphne and Simon to just admit it all. I loved the character development not just of the leads but the families and individuals. Simon’s backstory had me gagged. Lady Danbury is bloody phenomenal. I was annoyed at Daphne from when THAT bedroom scene happened and viewed her as selfish - but then again that’s the thing, this series just goes to show how many layers there are to a person and to a relationship. Anthony pissed me off the entire time, what a dick. I’m in love with Benedict. The Featheringtons are hilarious. Unpopular opinion but I really quite like Portia, she’s fantastic. The Penelope twist had my jaw on the floor. And then it made SENSE!
And then! Season 2! Ohhhh I was so excited to watch this one. First episode didn’t disappoint at ALL, in fact I’d argue it was better than the entire first season. No I will not be elaborating! I think I could honestly talk about season 2 for so long, I just want to analyse it all. Everything. Every character we’ve seen, every scene, every plot line… the music was beautiful. The set design, the costumes, THE WIGS! Oh everything is perfect. The little nods to Indian culture throughout season 2 have made me emotional I think. Kate telling Lady Danbury she despises English tea (I get it, sister) and then making her own masala chai. The intimate haldi applications between the Sharma women, the significance it holds. What completely set me off crying was when Kris Bowers’ rendition of Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham started playing in the background. It’s a track from a movie with the same name which is a timeless classic in Bollywood. Ask literally any Indian family about K3G and they’ll smile and tell you about it or hum the choral tune of the song (it’s insanely catchy). Undoubtedly there will be many articles online that tell you why it is so important and emotion-inducing that that song was played in the background at that moment - definitely it’s clear in the comments section of the official YouTube audio.
Anyways AHHHHH SEASON 3!! I’m so so so excited. I love a slow burn friends to lovers trope. I’m so ready for this! The trailers and the teasers are PERFECT and I cannot wait for Penelope’s moment.

2024.05.14 13:35 SarvGarg Tom Ford Noir de Noir

Tom Ford Noir de Noir
Noir de Noir is categorized as a Chypre fragrance and was launched in 2007. It was created by Jacques Cavallier, Harry Fremont, and Olivier Cresp, so you already know it was going to be a heavyweight.
The box presentation is excellent, but the bottle itself is a bit of a letdown. While the dark-hued glass is beautiful, it scratches easier than my social anxiety. The golden sticker on the front is also prone to scratching, which might be a turn-off for those who prefer pristine packaging or haven't achieved peak "adulting" yet. The cap bears the brand name in gold and boasts an above-average atomizer.
The year is 2018, and my sister is in SG. With my birthday approaching, she asks me what perfume I need because that's what everyone assumes I want as a gift. "Noir Extreme" is what I requested. Lo and behold, she's confused and gets me "Noir de Noir" – a classic sibling move. I assure you I did not make any fuss about it; do not believe what my sister has fabricated about the issue.
I was always aware of this perfume but never really cared much about it. After watching YouTube reviews where everyone praised it as dark, seductive, mysterious, sensuous, and other terms borrowed from an erotic novel, I received the perfume. Upon the first spray, I'm like.. TF (not Tom Ford, the other TF), it smells like pan masala gulkand. It took me some time to understand the intricacies of this beauty.
To my nose, the perfume opens with a tiny hint of cold spices and roses—a dark dense rose syrup like gulkand in paan. The spices mellow down to reveal all the rose goodness and what appears to be a dark chocolate note, which I suspect is the truffle and vanilla as I have no clue what this fancy dirt mushroom even smells like. There's also some woodiness that can hardly be classified as oud. The mid lasts for a very long time, we're talking 4 - 5 hours, which is roughly the same amount of time it takes to explain this fragrance to a certain person who only likes vanilla body spray from Sol de Janeiro.
Finally, in deep dry down, the rose note starts to fade, but never really goes away completely; gourmand vanilla makes its presence felt even more, and the earthy nuance gets bolder with patchouli.
Do not make the mistake of judging this perfume with the first sniff; you need to let it complete its transitions. Every stage tells a different story. Give it some time and you'll fall head over heels for this.
Performance is insane, to say the least. Two sprays and you're set for the day; any more and you'll be applying for a restraining order against yourself. It projects heavily for 3 hours straight, with sillage for another 2 to 3 hours. It stays over 10 hours on the skin and will require hand sanitiser to remove it. On clothes, it will last until you wash them, twice, with hot water.
Strictly a winter scent, do not dare to even look at this bottle in summer unless you want to invoke the Geneva Protocol on chemical warfare. It's ideal for casual settings, date nights with two sprays under your shirt, and perfect for open-air Indian weddings. Those with an affinity towards dark roses will appreciate it as it's perfectly unisex.
Should you get it? Well, first and foremost, you must like roses – dry and dense. It's not your regular rose fragrance; there's nothing fresh about this rose, nor is it your typical rose oud oriental fragrance. Be very intentional about this purchase; a blind buy is not recommended.
If you're looking for an alternative, Armaf CDNI Women is a very good replica at the price. However, it's only a mirage compared to the original.
TLDR; An intense dark rose and dark chocolate unisex scent with vanilla and patchouli, meant for colder weather only.

2024.05.12 20:49 Th_rowa_wa_y Anyone have recipe/spice blends that match Taste of India's?

I'm working on improving my ability to cook and wanted to start learning how to cook some Indian food since Taste of India is my favorite restaurant in town. However, that said, I've also had the experience of the wildly different spice palettes Indian restaurants can have since I tried India Garden at the recommendation of a friend and hated the spice/flavor palette they use (no offense to their cooking ability, I just don't like whatever the flavor difference is).
I'm not a super experienced cook so I don't know how to specifically identify the flavors. The other day I tried cooking lamb kadahi with the help of a family member who has cooked Indian food before, but the flavor came out more similar to India Garden, and my suspicion is the Garam Masala bought from Bloomingfoods might be why since the smell of it reminded me of the taste of India Garden. If I had to try to describe the flavor I don't like, I'd say it's a kind of stronger herb-y, almost similar to mint (?) kind of flavor that I really don't enjoy, that seems to be completely absent in Taste of India's food.
So, does anyone with more cooking experience have any idea what might be the difference?

Curry Love review!
tried curry love today! very impressed! went 30 minutes before they opened and Felix (the owner) was so welcoming and excited to have me there. I got the 65 small plate and it was very very good. personally i think the 65 wrap is better than the plate, but you cant go wrong either way! i told him how passionate i am about good food and he let me try a few other things they had! the panner marsala was really really good, as well as everything else! you can taste the love that goes into the food. so much flavor in every bite. i was a little apprehensive of the price bc i am a broke college student, but it was well worth it especially with the naan
go check it out if you can!

2024.05.11 03:29 InvisibleTapefor2_99 DINO vs JOHN

DINO vs JOHN
Dino Morea and John Abraham... Both supermodels, actors, hansome men, well educated, part keralite, Indians with part foreign ancestry, exs of Bipasha Basu and given less credit than they deserve at times.
Why did one succeed while the other not as much?
Personally I have always been a fan of John and never really thought of Dino other than knowing that he is a good looking guy who also was a supermodel like John. Infact it was just recently that I watched a film of his for the first time (Raaz) and also another one (acid factory). Overall I liked both and was impressed by Dino's acting.
Though a fan of John simply because of his charm in films like Taxi 9211, Kaal, Garam Masala and ofcourse Dhoom I never thought of him as a good actor and by that I mean even if he had to play himself in every movie I always found that in many scenes he is not very good at emoting the way it's needed for that scene. Because of this when I came to know of Dino and how many said that he can't act I thought the same of him because probably that was true and by chance too I never watched any of his films growing up.
Recently though I watched an interview of his with Siddharth Kannan and I was impressed by his narration of his career and life and hence decided to give a movie of his a try (Raaz). And man....... I felt guilty! Because I am a fan of John but I just suddenly found myself rooting for dino simply because of his skills (sorry that I am more than two decades late Dino, lol). I mean he is definitely a way better actor than what John is even today and I from what I saw I guess he is alright when it comes to dance. But considering his good looks, decent acting and considerable dancing skills (then) I found it difficult to understand how this guy didn't get more fame and success than John because atleast wrt merit even though I am (still) a fan of John this guy definitely deserved it more.
What do you guys and gals think? How did this happen?????
Getting toJohnt there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he has improved as an actor and when it comes to action he is easily atleast one of the best action stars in Bollywood. He has that aura of a tough guy now in his action films whom you shouldn't mess with and he is really good at that. Also he has chosen and done pretty impressive movies, few of which I have mentioned above and another that comes to mind is kabul express. One more thing that I realised as a fam and what got reinforced seeing dinos career is that John actually took a pretty smart decision by trimming his hair and bulking up (though yes in the past I disliked that he did that because John with long hair and a less muscular yet strong figure was the ideal for what boys wanted to look like and girls wanted to date, haha but yeah it's the truth) and marketing himself as an action star because that really helped him not only survive but also become a star and known face in the Bollywood industry (we can see a similiar action star John in Zinda opposite Sanjay dutt).
I watched another film (acid factory) starring dino and I in total I liked his performance in that too. Personally I think as a person dino isn't as smart and calculative as John and John though he tries to show he is all humble and "middle class" I strongly think that he exaggerates at times.
I would like to see both of them in an action movie together because I think that would be great. If John plays the villian then it could even possibly be a great revival for dinos acting career (I know he is in the Empire and many have praised it but I haven't watched it). Even if John is the hero it would still be nice to see them together sharing the screen though we all know how good a villian John can be (case in point, especially dhoom).
Finally I forgot to mention in the beginning that both also became producers about almost the same time and there too smart man John has succeeded better.
Hmmmm..... I guess this is it and incase I have missed anything I will try to edit and add it later if allowed or I will comment below also under the modbots comment. Haha I better go to sleep now, it is almost 7......
fingers crossed I hope the mods approve this post because I really want to know your views on this too......I am really liking this community and more so for all the wonderful movie suggestions that I got from here. Thanks guys and gals.thank youuuuuuu. Happy smiley
