2024.04.29 14:55 RedRobin2988 Thinking of starting a unique PvP/Anarchy-lite server, but I want to gauge interest here first

Here's my idea: The entire map is a 2500 x 2500 desert map and there are no rules - with the exception of hacks and cheats. The realm is revolved around PvP and raiding bases; however, as I said this will be anarchy-lite because players will be given adventure-mode land protection ONLY if they build above-ground compounds. No chest protection, so players must build their own vaults. No ender chests and no shulker boxes. No protection will be offered to deep underground bases. However, once a week there will be a *Global war* period in which ALL protections are disabled and one can raid, kill, loot, etc., to their heart's content. And TnT will be enabled in this period.
Because the entire world is a desert, acquiring items like grass blocks, saplings, wood, seeds, and other scarce resources will be available at spawn via shops. However, they will come at a hefty price of diamonds.
This is meant to be a hardcore survival experience and players will likely have to build compounds and cooperate if they don't want to die from starvation, monsters, or other players.
Please comment below if something like this would interest you!

2024.04.29 14:48 Sparrowflop Struggling with my post 50 build, help?

I hit 50 over the weekend, mostly been doing public events and story lines, just having fun.
I thought I'd aim for a shotgun build at 50, but I suspect I need power armor to really pull it off - I have the cold shoulder, because I thought it was super awesome. And it is. But man am I taking a lot of damage and just eating through my stimpacks.
I stacked up all the shotgun cards at 3, then went for skeet, enforcer, and luck cards like four leaf clover and grim reaper. Doesn't seem to leave enough for power armor benefit cards, so I'm not sure where to focus.
I completed the BOS and got the ultracite armor last night, but haven't made it (I'm out of friggin screws again) - is it worth running? Or should I just use a T51 set I put together by salvaging parts?
Also, where can I get power armor frame plans? I'm having to use whitehall mall to work on mine right now, which isn't horrible, but I'd like to be able to do it in my camp.
Or should I just scrap the whole thing and run a rifle based build, rifleman or commando? I'm kind of burned out on the 'run face first at the enemy taking damage then kill one at a time and if they are 5 feet above me on a railing I'm screwed' thing. It was fun when I had a vamp combat shotgun, because I could literally facetank anything I've run into in almost no armor.
If rifle is a good idea, I snagged the plan for the railway rifle off a vendor last night and could build around that.
Talking about builds in general - is it worth taking the 3 cards of Lockpick and Hacker? It doesn't seem like there's ever critical stuff in locked rooms/boxes, and I'm almost always capped on weight of gear to dismantle. Story stuff always seems to just make you take the long route regardless.
If I scrap the shotgun idea, what's good armor to aim for? Combat armor? I've mostly just been running whatever I pick up. I tried wearing all crafted gear but I couldn't get the templates or mods as fast as I leveled.

I painted a border for an old damaged frame. Bougainvillea’s for my late cousin 🩷
It’s been a while since I painted with watercolours properly, but I came across this old frame when redoing my bookshelf. It’s of myself (kid) and my cousin, when I was younger, shortly before she passed away. The photo is beautiful and means a lot, but as a kid, I’d covered it in stickers, then impulsively ripped them off as a teen. So for years, it’s sat with yellow stains all over it until I found it again on the weekend.
My first thought was that I could just go buy a new frame. But then I thought, why not make a unique one? And, honour the memories inside.
So I measured up the paper and cut it to shape. Then, got sketching.
The design is of a bush out the back of my childhood home, a bougainvillea flower, with a little ladybug perched atop. My cousin and I used to rescue ladybugs from the backyard pool, and rest them on the bougainvillea bush.
It may not be perfect technically, but the finished result makes me so happy. 🐞

Considering to buy a Speedy reduced 3510.50 that has had the case and dial replaced by Omega. Is there any demerit for this?
The seller is saying that he had the watch serviced by Omega in 2020 with the following:
Overhaul service New case New dial New hands Re-engraving of serial number on new case
Omega returned the old dial and hands and he shared the paperwork for the service.
No box or papers other than the service documentation with an ask of $2600.
Anything to look out for?

Different qualities of Elena’s vervain necklace
I have these 3 versions of the locket. Different qualities for different prices. I even found a box similar to Stefans. Left: Very cheap. Less than 10$US. Alloy metal, glas stone. Kinda oval shaped. Middle: Medium priced. Less than 100$US. Supposedly Sterling silver, but maybe just plated. A bit on the small side, but still nice. Right: The creme de la creme. Very expensive. Around 600-700$US. This is handmade from solid Sterling silver with genuine garnet stone. The best replica on the market. True to size and flat backed like Elenas. Also quite thick. It doesn’t fit in the box! 😭

2024.04.29 14:33 pohltergiest Resting in the shadow of Fuji

Resting in the shadow of Fuji
The morning helped to explain the night, both of us far too tired to be roused at all. Stress made for long but only semi restful sleep as the toll of the ride fully made itself known. Truly we found our limits on this ride, and the backlash will take a few days to recover from. Luckily we were smart and prepared for a morning in bed, we found a silly chocolate cereal, soy milk, coffee in a carton, bananas and orange juice for breakfast. We may have used the kettle to warm up the coffee, don't tell the hotel.
The morning was spent rolling around in bed, eating out of mugs, and reading reading reading. I haven't done this much reading since I was a kid, I don't think Bryce has ever read so many books in a row, ever. Granted they are Halo books, so not exactly the densest reads, but I won't begrudge how much reading he's done. I often write for an hour every night, and need silence while I'm writing, so he's been reading like a worm for months.
An hour before lunchtime we became restless, only so much rolling around in bed one can do. We decided on a Taiwanese place for lunch, and needed to pick up batteries for our headlamps and a cardboard box for mailing. We found the box and batteries at a grocery store and hit up the Taiwanese place. If it was a culture shock to come to Japan, it's double when confronted with Chinese manners, which are bad to say the least. From the shouting across rooms, to jabbing fingers at people, to the lack of pleasantries altogether, it's a bare bones experience. I suppose if you despise the hand wringing nature of manners then it's great, but I enjoy a veneer of professionalism when I eat. Each their own. The food, however, was fantastic, as usual. I could almost put up with the loud, annoying people and the racket they constantly produce to enjoy the food.
After lunch we pedaled down to the lake to return to a park we had passed on the way in that was hosting, of all things, a Japanese horse archery tournament. It was free and I wanted to witness some more festivals specific to Japan and this one had it in spades. Maybe I need a guide to really appreciate it though, as I couldn't parse anything that was being said. From what we could gather though it's essentially an extended Shinto ceremony with everything from the targets to the judges to the archers and the horses being blessed over and over. Priests in robes were swinging rods with folded rice paper each time the archers passed. It was funny seeing the younger priest getting constantly corrected by the older priests and watching him sweat cause he couldn't hold the arrows high enough.
There were four archers who rode in a line and had two targets to hit, it must be very difficult as around half the time they missed the targets altogether. There were some bullseyes, much to the crowds delight. The outfits may have been the best parts, the style and materials hundreds of years old. It looked like they had leg guards made of deer pelts.
After an hour we tired of hearing but not understanding all of the explanation that was said by the announcer, and headed out. We wandered over to the shrine nearby, which happened to be the oldest in the Fuji area. We were just too tired to really appreciate any of it and after a furtive search for attractions to match our energy, we decided it was time to hang up the riding shoes, get a pile of snacks and head back to the hotel, not to return.
Bryce was even fully out of it, leaving me to select snacks for our noshing, which is never a good place. When I'm hungry and loopy from over exertion I tend to want to cover every possible snack angle rather than get a total amount of snacks that is reasonable. I'm going to want something chewy, something crunchy. Something sweet, something sour. Chocolatey smooth, and beverages to match. It is always overboard, but calories in is calories in. Our previous three days of riding definitely topped the 10000 calorie mark, so get it in.
We ordered pizza for dinner again, and as I was waiting in the lobby I saw two tour buses empty their horde into the hotel and I understood the oddly large lobby as a flood of yammering tourists with their luggage mobbed the front desk and the elevator. Beleaguered tour guides were yelling over the din in rapid Mandarin as the group made zero effort to let people out of the elevator they were all trying to get in. Good grief. The pizza was half cold when it arrived and was generally pretty sad, but I was glad I didn't have to wait inside with that mob.
Bryce caught up on his scrapbooking and we got a proper rest day today for our poor bodies. We start another tour tomorrow, this one heading south to Hakone and if fortune favours us, down the peninsula and to the islands. I'm hoping that leaving the Fuji area before the main holidays of golden week will work well. Fuji is even more than it's cracked up to be, which has been in general 50/50 here in Japan. Half of the things we've read and seen pictures of are larger than life and breathtaking beyond description and the other half are puffery. I imagine that ratio is unique to all places, and Japan is likely better than most. Fuji though. 10/10. Amazing to look at, want to return and climb it. Also do the paragliding. Maybe you, dear reader, would like to come with?

2024.04.29 14:33 Toumuqun What am i doing wrong?

Sorry if my formatting is weird, i am on mobile.
So I've only played three times ever, with my friend who lives across the country, and im trying to start dming so i can play both at home, and more frequently than my dm friend has time for. Ive watched Matt Colville's "Running the Game" series half a dozen times; I enjoy just considering playing, as well as actually playing, so watching matt is half entertainment, half education for me.
I have several roommates, and one of them is an avid gamer. So i asked him what kind of dnd setting/theme he would like to play in, and he said "zombie apocalypse/survival." He says no video games get all the aspects of that situation right, and since dnd is so malleable, it seems possible, and it would be nice to see a decently realistic zombie survival game. He would be the sole player.
So i spend some time thinking about and developing the specific game mechanics he wants- creating a character sheet with abilities and skills that fit into the kind of play he wants, prioritizing stealth, crafting, nomadic survival (he says he doesnt want an HQ or even npc followers/a group, he wants to be a lone survivor); even adapting skill systems from fallout and the last stand series to a ttrpg friendly system. I also make a setting that the player likes and has agreed to (1980s, rural TN woods, which is the area we live in. Ive even thought it would be cool to include real history as easter eggs, such as actual cherokee myths come to life, or the "new road" built in 1981 that now serves as our real life main city highway in 2024, stuff like that.) i think itll be neat.
Anyway as the game mechanic was taking shape, i began to see how gameplay would look, and it was.. less than pleasing.
See, this player doesnt like play acting, so no Roleplaying dialogue, and also finds it tedious to go into too much detail (eg. "you find yourself at the mouth of the cave, water still dripping along the top slope from the morning's dew. Faint echoes of the drips reach your ears from within, as your eyes adjust to the darkness. What do you do?") He doesnt like that, and claims to prefer "okay youre at the cave, its dark. What next?" kind of thing. Which im fine with, hes the player. But also, without those descriptive words, the whole game experience seems too.. zoomed out.
Its like youre just holding a paper game controller (the character sheet/map,) pushing paper buttons (taking an action, or traveling). He said he would enjoy just experiencing survival with the threat of zombies, but it seems to me like that ought to be merely set onto a story/adventure, not the entire game. Otherwise it becomes a 3rd person strategy game/inventory manager where you almost guide the actions of an npc, like in wargames, instead of playing as a PC.
How can i give this player an adventure when it seems he wants to avoid quests? It should be noted that i pitched 3 different setting choices and he picked the 1980s TN woods. (The other 2 were 1- a combination of "The Most Dangerous Game," and "The Hunger Games," where in 1850 a billionaire group drops him on a private island inhabited by other survivors and zombies, just so they can watch the events unfold, and 2- 1585, Roanoke colony- the REAL reason they went missing, zombie attack!) Both seem laden with strife, quests, deeds... adventure! He picked the one where he can, as he puts it, "enjoy the game, not pine after some endgame goal." Which is cool, smell the roses, yea?
My question to you all is- how can i introduce a real ADVENTURE into the setting he chose? And do you see any red flags in what ive told; am i doing something wrong? Ty

2024.04.29 14:27 throwaway_downfella Young guy feeling really really depressed

Unsure if this is really the right place. feel free to ignore lol. I guess I’m just looking for advice or tips from people who’ve been through it or still are.
I’m an early 20s dude going through it pretty rough right now. Not suicidal or anything so please don’t call the cops or anything on me! But I have felt that way a couple years ago.
I constantly feel down, like most of the day most days. Since 2020 maybe, with some happy stretches. Sometimes it’s just a little feeling in the back of my head, other days I’ll just sit there on my phone for hours doing nothing at all. Sometimes especially when pissed or it’s too much I’ll go for a walk, put some music on and alternate between giving in to feeing sorry for myself than beating myself up over it. It’s like a constant pressure in my head and heart. Just sadness
it’s so strange; i’m financially sweet as, plenty of mates, loving family, doing well at uni, job interviews lined up, enjoyable hobbies, dress pretty well, in reasonable shape, spin a good yarn etc. Pretty outgoing guy, love keeping people entertained. Not showing off by any means (got a receding hairline, probably could lose 5kgs and can’t seem to attract a girl to save my life), just saying that there’s nothing obvious I have to fix, i’ve spent hours thinking about this.
I have had a couple long term gfs, but mostly single these past couple years apart from a recent fling which ended pretty shittily for me. This is definitely a big part of my current blues - no luck on the apps (satan’s gift to men), out in town, even house parties. I reckon I tie my mental health to being in a relationship or being desired by someone - when it happens it’s great but when it doesn’t it fucks me up
but even when I was in a great relationship I would sometimes just want to give up?
told myself I’d give the usual advice a go - have tried going to the gym, running, deleting social media, spending a bunch of time outside, keeping busy with uni, talking with mates (us kiwi men really are useless at this haha), drinking (purely socially, I stopped drinking entirely for a bit and thought it might fix everything, nah). It all just helps temporarily.
Have yet to go to the gp, have heard horror stories about the mh system. Tempted to make an appointment to see about some pills, but that’s honestly really scary to me
To whoever reads I hope I don’t come across like a privileged kid complaining. I realise I’m bloody lucky to be where I am.
Chur and thanks in advance

Making Waves: Keeping Your Boat’s Engine Shipshape. Sailing the open seas is a thrilling experience, but proper marine engine maintenance is crucial to avoid unexpected breakdowns. Maintaining your boat’s engine will ensure a smooth journey, prevent costly repairs, and prolong your engine’s life.
To keep your marine engine in top condition, it’s essential to perform regular maintenance checks. First, check the oil level and change it as recommended by the manufacturer. Inspect the fuel filter and replace it if there is sediment or contamination present. Check all belts for tightness and wear to avoid slipping or breaking. Keeping your engine clean and free of debris is also critical, as dirt and dust can cause overheating.
Remember to keep an eye on your engine’s temperature gauge and take note of any significant changes or overheating. Overheating can damage your engine, and it could be caused by several factors, including a faulty thermostat, low coolant levels, or a worn pump impeller.
Finally, don’t forget to winterize your boat’s engine if you live in a cold climate area. This process will protect your engine from freezing and save you from costly repairs due to damage from frozen water.
Regular marine engine maintenance is key to keep your boat running at its best. By following these simple steps, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable voyage for you and your passengers.

Making Waves: Keeping Your Boat’s Engine Shipshape.

COOLING SYSTEM

Next to your engine’s oil, the coolant used is of paramount importance. Understand that engine coolant is much more than merely an antifreeze product. Modern engine coolants are a complex blend of chemicals that help to minimize corrosion, raise boiling points, lubricate, neutralize engine by-products of combustion, and keep things from freezing. This is another area where following the engine manufacturer’s recommendations for acceptable coolant products is extremely important. Basic service intervals for changing engine coolant will vary now that “long-life” coolant is available, as long as the engine manufacturer allows for their use.

AIR INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM

The procedures here will vary depending on the manufacturer and the equipment installed on your engine. If you don’t have a turbocharger, things will be a bit simpler.
Walker offers a wide variety or high-performance air filtration that replaces the standard paper elements found on many marine engines.
Direct replacement for the stock paper air filters commonly found on Cummins, John Deere, Caterpillar, MAN and other marine diesel engines. These filters allow 20% more airflow to improve engine performance and help boost fuel economy. Water and moisture resistant, these filters are also washable, so service life is longer than the stock paper air filters. Depending on model, preconditioned with red or blue oil for maximum dirt capture and engine protection, filters are tapered or cylindrical in shape depending on engine selected.
As for the exhaust system, cleaning and/or replacement of the exhaust seawatemixing elbow at the exhaust riser may be required. Typically, these are made of cast iron and in the saltwater world rust will be a concern. Some manufacturers recommend checking these each season by removing the rubber hose that connects the engine seawater cooling hose to the mixer at the elbow of the exhaust riser and looking for excessive rust. If it appears to be rusty, or the passageway is partially blocked, you should remove the exhaust riser and clean it out thoroughly. Marine Diesel Engine Maintenance Schedule

2024.04.29 14:12 The-Mr-E Walk Me Home Part 10 - Taxiderm 🚕

SYNOPSIS: Walking your OP monster girlfriend home is easy. No one messes with you. Getting back to your house on your own? That's the tricky part.
Norman's most recent battle comes to an abrupt end ... and now there's a taxi alone in the middle of the street. Wanna hazard a guess that it's more than meets the eye?
First Previous (See NEXT>> in comments)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Norman stared at the taxi nonchalantly. He glanced about for something to climb, some barrier to get beyond. They were there, but not close enough. He sighed, equipping one hand with a flashbang while the other held the smitelight.
“Guys? If you ever see this and you’re too far out in the open? Don’t act differently. Don’t panic on the outside. Don’t raise or lower your voice. Don’t run. It senses changes in behaviour. Don’t let on that you know what it is.”
The taxi inched towards him.
“Notice that it doesn’t have an engine … well, perhaps it does, but it’s not using it,” Norman explained. “It’s mostly silent. You can hear the wheels a bit, and the squeaking, creaking metal. Listen closely and you’ll hear the flesh moving around on the inside. You can’t see through the windows and the headlights are off: telltale signs of what you’re dealing with. I say not to run because it can go from 0 to 60 faster than any car. The mere fact that it favours taxis suggests that it knows what it’s doing, to some extent. If you just wait for it on the sidewalk like so, it will approach to ‘pick you up’ like any other taxi, keeping up the act until the very last moment. I’m doing the same. The smitelight should drive it away. That’s not what I have in mind this time.”
The taxi squeaked to a stop in front of Norman. He armed his flash grenade.
“Taxiderm,” Norman answered.
It’s door flew open. Inside was a writhing mass of tentacles, tightly packed. The last glimpse of The Neighbourhood Watchman’s face could be seen as it sunk deeper, a tentacle wrapping over his frantically wide eye. Norman drenched it in smitelight. Emerging tentacles recoiled in agony. He tossed in the grenade and slammed the door shut. The taxiderm jolted as amber light flashed through the windows, illuminating its innards like an X-Ray. Norman stepped out of the way as the door swung open. Out poured juices, dead tentacles, Papooshie and a disoriented The Neighbourhood Watchman. Satisfied that his work was done, Norman sprinted away. The pair didn’t look to be in any fighting shape. Apparently, The Neighbourhood Watchman didn’t share that opinion.
“S-SHTAAAAAAAPP-!” squealed The Neighbourhood Watchman, fruitlessly reaching for Norman.
“Shaddup!” Norman interrupted. “I saved your life. The least you could do is stop attracting predators.”
“Papooshie needsh hish protein!” whined The Neighbourhood Watchman.
“And now you have a car full of protein. Be happy and grateful!” Norman snapped. “If you weren’t human, I’d make sure you never menace the streets again.”
The Neighbourhood Watchman’s lip quivered as he entered an outraged seizure. He sputtered. The sounds he began to make? Maybe, just maybe, there was a word or two in there somewhere, if you dug deep enough through the inarticulate tirade of swinish squealing.
Finally, The Neighbourhood Watchman calmed down enough to form relatively coherent sentences. “W-WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!? ‘MENACHE THE SHTREETSH’!? I AM THE LAW! I AM- ack!”
His rant cut short when Papooshie’s dog chain yanked him back as the creature buried himself in the taxiderm’s meat, feasting to his heart’s content. “Papooshie, nooo! What if it’sh not gluten free? You’ll get wormsh!” griped The Neighbourhood Watchman, before turning his fury upon Norman. “Thish ish YOUR fault, Perp! Hey! ARE YOU LISHENING!?!”
Having tuned out the nonsense, Norman chatted with his viewers: “So, anyway, taxiderms are like a hermit crabs. They find taxis to nestle in like shells, luring victims. More vulnerable to light than most nyctals, so that’s nice.” “STAHP IGNORING- mmph!? MMMPH!!!”
The Neighbourhood Watchman’s porcine squeals were stifled into oblivion as Papooshie dragged him into the meat.
“I have a limited supply of flash grenades. Besides, it takes a moment to deploy them,” Norman whispered, switching back to stealth. “Not always feasible in a pinch. ARN74, are you-? Have I done something to offend you personally?”
_CHAT
“I don’t think you’re that irrational,” Norman replied. “C’mon, talk to me.”
_CHAT
Norman raised an eyebrow as he peeked past a corner. The coast was clear. He continued running.
“Explain,” Norman requested.
_CHAT
“I see your point,” Norman pondered. “Yes, I do feel a sense of duty to pull my weight in this relationship. Amy’s juggling so much as it is. If I don’t get this right, I’ll tie her down babysitting me. Even so, it’s not about proving myself so much as proving what we can do as a whole. Imagine if everyone could do at least half of what I did tonight. Then the night is saved, just like that.”
_CHAT
Norman gazed into the distance at the sound of rain sweeping across the landscape.
_CHAT
“You seem to believe you know her really well,” Norman commented, removing a camera drone from his backpack.
_CHAT
“You’re not entirely wrong,” Norman admitted, sending the drone into the sky. “Those are a lot of presumptions, though. You assume I haven’t seen Amy’s other sides.”
_CHAT
“She systematically tried to ruin my life for several months shortly after we met,” Norman stated point blank.
_CHAT
Norman shrugged. “Same reasons why you don’t like me. She thought I was a self-righteous straight arrow who thought he was clever. She wanted to prove that I wasn’t. As she puts it, I ‘saw straight through her’, and she hated that. I guess you could say she was trying to eliminate a perceived threat.”
_CHAT
“It’s not exactly a secret. The whole campus knows, and she talks about it without hesitation. Amy really doesn’t like when I sugar coat the story,” Norman noted. Gazing into the distance through the drone’s camera, he gave it some instructions through gestures on the nightsight’s augmented reality.
_CHAT
“It’s not a deal-maker per se. I like her because she’s the most beautiful soul I’ve ever seen,” Norman explained. “Well, second most beautiful, maybe. She knows what she’s capable of, yet she grows past that and just keeps trying. Warping my morals to facilitate her would be the last thing Amy wants. Even if that wasn’t true, revolving my ideals around her wouldn’t help. It would just set us both back.”
ARN74 did not respond.
“So, how did you get Night Shifted?” smirked Norman.
_CHAT
“You don’t know Amy personally, but you have a high emotional investment in her situation,” Norman reasoned.
_CHAT
“Guys, please don’t kill each other. It’s not nice,” Norman requested glibly. The drone’s readings concluded.
“Alright, guys. Radio silence in a bit,” Norman declared. “Rain means it’s hard to hear anything sneaking around, not to mention less visibility. In the savannah, lions take advantage of this. However, human senses are dull, and I’m not hunting. Ladies and gents, welcome to Hard Mode.”
