Toroidal Metaphysics - neoqabalism, Landian numogram, critical numerology, n-dimensional hypertorus

2014.08.23 07:09 raisondecalcul Toroidal Metaphysics - neoqabalism, Landian numogram, critical numerology, n-dimensional hypertorus

The torus or n-dimensional hypertorus is the shape of... well, everything. Ancient spiritual diagrams like the qabalistic Tree of Life or geometric patterns like the Flower of Life have attempted to decode this "sacred geometry" and its significance. This subreddit is a place for rigorous discussion and investigation of the relationships between numerals, qabala, vortex math, and toruses—and subjectivity, consciousness, and sorcery.

2024.05.28 21:45 trinketmoon How do I know if my hymen is intact?

I’ve recently started dilating and have moved up to the second smallest dilator. Once fully inserted its completely comfortable, no pain expect for near the entrance of my vagina. I’m overall a little confused over my own anatomy which is silly in itself but I don’t really understand what the hymen is due to all of the misinformation out there. I have obviously done my own research and looked at diagrams, however I dislike inserting my finger and so can’t map it out for myself and previously when I have inserted my finger I didn’t remember anything like that. From what I saw the hymen can be partially broken which I think might be the case for me? I have a lot of questions and there is so much conflicting information. How do I know if the pain I’m feeling is because of my vaginismus or just normal such as my hymen? What the hell even the hymen and what is it for? Whereabouts is the hymen located?
(I am a virgin but obviously I have knowledge of the basic anatomy but I think that the fear from my vaginismus really makes me overthink and I want to have all the information possible to finally understand my own body)

2024.05.27 18:53 CuteNocturnal Cefaly sensations only on one side of face? Feels different each time?

I got my cefaly about a month ago after a flair of 3 months of daily migraines, and so far after about 20 uses am only feeling sensations on the left side of my forehead/temple. (My migraines always hurt on both sides of my head and neck equally).
Also, for the first 15x I used it, I felt zero electrical sensation, but at about 60 sec mark on prevent mode my left temple/eyebrow felt like someone pushing on a bruise, hard, and had to level off there. Then suddenly the past couple days I feel the electrical sensation after 15 seconds (slowly intensifies as prevent builds up) (but mostly going straight up my forehead (left side only, not where it hurts). I'm putting the pads in a very normal place each time, like the diagrams. And sticking them hard.
I've tried: -new sticky pad -washing forehead more/drying completely -repositioning the sticky pads, even to the point where they're clearly too far to the right in hopes that the relevant right side trigeminal nerve branches are just weirdly far over? -had my partner try; he feels it on both sides
I'm wondering if anyone else had this experience but then eventually it got more normal/useful? Is this some kind of user error? Trying to figure out whether I should return it, if something about my migraines or anatomy just doesn't work for me.

All information was gathered and translated from various available sources.
In 199X, Japan was rocked by strange incidents.
Recently, mysterious and unexplainable incidents have taken place that have rocked the country. In high schools all over, students have been mysteriously disappearing with no clue as to their whereabouts. Furthermore, it appeared that these unspeakable acts were occurring in direct defiance of the school system. These disappearances were taking place in many different locations simultaneously, and many thought that they were being staged by an organized crime ring.
It was also rumored throughout the world that these acts were being plotted by either school officials or agents of a rogue foreign government.

B-W-H: 92-78-80 (cm)
Nationality: Japanese

Best Subject: Physical education
Worst Subject: Music, English
Club: Baseball club
Part-Time Job: No time for that!
Personality: Has a quick temper and hates to lose. Has a strong sense of justice, but because he's so impulsive, he's always at a loss for what he tries to do. He's extremely self-conscious about his height; he always fights with Natsu, who is tall, and tries to make a fool of him. He throws the fight right back at her, but she always turns it around. It turns out Natsu was an old friend from childhood, and now that she's growing up and becoming more of a woman, her casual, less combative actions have caused a lot of tension...

Natsu Ayuhara

Nationality: Japanese

Dislikes: People that bully the weak, liars, little bugs
Special Talent: Cooking, making sweets
Best Subject: Home economics, physical education, Japanese, English
Worst Subject: Art
Club: Volleyball club
Part-Time Job: None
Personality: Natsu is a smart, outspoken "big sister" type with a winning spirit. With her sharp-edged personality, she hates people that bully the weak, lies, and insects. She's tall, and her strong-minded, "mannish" personality just might be the ruin of her. Every day, her shoebox becomes more and more full of love letters from other girls. On the other hand, since she scares away all the guys at school, Natsu's grateful to know a guy who doesn't hesitate to fight with her every day like Shoma. Although her boyish qualities stand out, she also has a cute side that yearns for romance and a womanly side that shows that she is an excellent cook.
Story: At Gorin High, each club's highest-ranking member was attacked in a series of coinciding events. Natsu and two others that go to the same school as she, Shoma and Roberto, got together and discussed it all, then set out as a team of three to find the cause of their investigation.

Roberto Miura

"Genius (Goal)Keeper"
Profile -
Sex: Male
Birthday: November 16
Blood Type: A

Weight: 73 kg
B-W-H: 101-82-88 (cm)

Dislikes: Gloomy things
Special Talent: Quickly firing a gun (He has never fired a gun with real bullets)
Best Subject: English, physical education
Worst Subject: Japanese, math
Club: Soccer Club
Part-Time Job: None
Personality: A student that's quarter-Brazilian (his nationality is Japanese, however.) His Brazilian blood brings a cool and shy side to him. He's awfully quiet and a loner, but when he sees needy people at a shelter, he can't leave them alone. Of Gorin's team of three, he plays an inside role of watching over the other two. Every time the other two argue, Roberto makes it a daily routine to turn around and shrug his shoulders. He's usually cool, but when he gets in a soccer match, he becomes one hot-blooded jerk. If he's making the deciding shot, he puts his whole body into it, expressing the joy that's sure to follow.
Story: Natsu and Shoma's uneasy combination is on the hunt for criminals. However, so the two don't run around wildly, he looks over them. He is worried that this action might hinder his chances of becoming a professional soccer player.
Short Story: The Sun Visor of Promise

Roy Bromwell

"Strong-Armed American"
Profile -
Sex: Male
Birthday: May 2
Blood Type: B
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 85 kg
B-W-H: 122-82-88 (cm)
Nationality: U.S.A.
Home Life: Lives alone in his father's holiday villa (at home in America, he lives with both his parents and has two older sisters)
Likes: Fashion, high-class brands

Special Talent: Arm wrestling (Boman is a good rival)
Best Subject: Anything
Worst Subject: Nothing
Club: Football
Part-Time Job: No need to work, his family is wealthy
Personality: As the star quarterback of an unbeatable American football team, he's the guy all the students want to be. Though he's capricious, and just a little less than serious. To make matters worse, he tries more than anyone else to look sharp. Though, if one looks through all of that, one will find a really frank and basic side to him that really hates cowardice. Because he was repeatedly told about how his grandfather lost his leg in the Pacific War (World War II) when he was little, Roy despises most things Japanese.
Story: Because his father is working to make Roy become a diplomat, he makes Roy transfer to Japan at Pacific High School unwillingly. However, Roy has yet to like being in Japan, and from his uneasy placement there, he gets a request from his father to check out the disturbing goings-on at Justice High.

Special Talent: Exciting displays of affection (I wouldn't call -that- a special talent...)

Worst Subject: Japanese
Club: Cheerleader
Part-Time Job: Tiffany has the looks, and her family has the money. She has no desire to work, and probably never will.
Personality: She's proud that everyone recognizes her beautiful face. A cheerful and bubbly (bubble-headed) "American funky girl". Her present interests are fashion and love, and she doesn't miss the chance to go to the dance club on weekends. Because she is always in a haze and playing around, she doesn't have thoughts of the future in her head at all. On a more positive side, she has a cute side that misses her parents in America, who never miss the chance to send her presents or call her on the phone. Before they were sent overseas, Roy and Tiffany went to the same school; since she has come to Japan, she fell deeply in love with him. She recalls something bothering Roy, who usually isn't easily disturbed.
Story: Tiffany joined Roy in the investigation of Justice High Roy's father ordered, in hopes that Roy will somehow turn around (to face her).

Part-Time Job: He has tried several (video stores, coffee shops), but none of them ever worked out. He is currently jobless.
Personality: Edge's personality can be described in one phrase: "irresponsible and unfair". No matter how he looks toward his opponents, he's got an army knife waiting for them without them knowing about it; hence his popular nickname "Army Knife's Edge". If his clothes get wrinkled a little, he has a habit of grabbing his collar or chest area and fixing it afterward. Edge hates his given name, and if you call him by his real name he gets mad.

In fact, if someone sneaky tried to take advantage of Gan, he'd still draw not much more than a blank from the big guy; Gan's a dunce of a character. More than anything else, Gan looks forward to having three meals a day. At every meal, he has no less than a mountain-sized helping of rice stacked five times over in a bowl.

He has an unusual way of getting things done and a preeminent, natural charisma, and has the power to take down massive organizations.
Story: As Raizo had feared, as the effects of the Imawano family's special training methods had created many a top-notch talent at his academy (Justice) and the academy had gotten all the more famous, opposition from the Imawano family to the public release of the teaching methods Raizo had been the only child to inherit was high, and his life was targeted. In addition to this, just to drive the nail into the coffin, the Imawano clan pressured Raizo mentally because of their opposition to his plans to give his own child extra special education, usually reserved for gifted students. Because of this, Raizo hid himself from both his wife and very young son. However, Raizo was never free from his sadness. Afterward, he did nothing but keep on, for the sake of the academy. Gradually, his family's opposition came to an end, and one day, as Raizo was making his rounds at the academy, he noticed a student both scholarly and physically strong, with outstanding grades. His name was Hyo, and the students were well aware of his abilities and popularity. Since his wife and son have disappeared, Raizo, who forgot all about his plan of succession decided to groom Hyo mainly for the eventual inheritance. Because he had put so much work into the academy, Raizo's body was already beginning to lose its ability to overexert itself. Raizo was having thoughts of retiring after Hyo graduates, leaving the academy in Hyo's hands. In actuality, Hyo is an illegitimate child of the Imawano clan. He has, at the behest of some family members, planted the seeds of a secret mission: to "revive a group of assassins" and "rule Japan with terror and mayhem".

He controls other people with his powerful brainwashing techniques, but Hyo is unaware that since he was a small child, he has been brainwashed by his father; he has a "father complex".
Story: Hyo uses his abilities, which surpass those of everyone else at Justice High, and his charisma as a weapon to turn all the academy's students into his own personal followers. One time, Raizo went overseas to inspect a high school at which he had planned to make a joint venture with Justice. Hyo used this opportunity to put a plan he had been warming up into motion. He brainwashed those of the best mind and body at schools everywhere in one fell swoop and brought them into his own personal army. Three months later, Raizo returned home to find a drastically changed academy, with a fanatic cult that worshipped Hyo as its master. It was hopeless for Raizo, who easily fell to Hyo's brainwashing. Hyo's ambition was nearly coming to perfect fruition; however, he had found yet one more obstacle. Word that Raizo's wife and son, long said to be dead, were still living had surfaced. With the blood of Raizo, the ninja's blood continuing the family line and thus being the rightful heir to Raizo's inheritance, this could pose trouble not even Hyo could handle. Hyo then decides to kidnap Raizo's wife Shizuku, so that he can lure his son, Batsu Ichimonji out of hiding and into his grasp.

2024.05.26 04:38 BunyipPouch What Cannes titles would you like to play at TIFF?

So, Cannes finished up today and the awards have been handed out. It's time to look ahead to the fall festivals and what titles will go where (Telluride/Venice/TIFF/NYFF). What Cannes titles would you personally like to play at TIFF?
Some obvious contenders would be Anora (Palme d'Or winners almost always play at TIFF) and The Substance (seems primed for a Midnight Madness slot based on how batshit insane it apparently is).
What else would you like to see?
There is usually a big crossover between Cannes and TIFF, for example from last year's Cannes (in and out of competition), this is what also played at TIFF 3 months later for reference:
17 titles! So quite a lot of titles played at Cannes and then TIFF. Maybe we can expect a dozen or so again this year.
Notable movies that played at Cannes but NOT TIFF last year:
Personally, I'm really hoping for Anora, The Substance, Megalopolis, Bird, Motel Destino, The Apprentice, All We Imagine As Light, Emilia Perez, L'Amour Ouf, Parthenope, The Damned, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, The Surfer, and Armand.
I'm already dreading how hard tickets will be to get for Anora lol.
Obviously, we won't be getting Kinds of Kindness because it comes out in June.

Just wondering what I should purchase for my kinesiology studies, I think the debate is between I pad + apple pencil vs a mac but if there are other options that work i'm open to that too
im thinking i pad could be the move due to the diagrams and labeling required during anatomy courses but just a thought

Progenitor of Oozes: Life, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....Finds a Way
Diagram of the organism Proteromucozoon djooteem; this is the most accurate reconstruction provided by the Trandelian Society of Higher Scholars, based on scant fossilized remains of the species' internal organs and what is known about the anatomy and physiology of its descendants.
  • A) An unmineralized dorsal shell
  • B) Muscular podes, lining the fringes of the body and aides in locomotion; two modified ones act as antennae; mucus glands under podes provides additional protection to soft underside.
  • C) The stomach, capable of protruding through the mouth much like a sea star.
  • D) The brain with a branching nervous system
  • E) The venting fiber, controlling water flow into a gill pouch
  • F) Gill pouch, placed behind each poden and lined with gill fibers for respiration
  • G) Two double chambered hearts, one on each side of the body near the brain.
  • H) Arteries and veins that lead between the hearts and the gill fibers, allowing for filtering of the lymph for dissolved waste products.
  • I) The nutrifying compartment, which holds the nutritive slurry created by the stomach to slowly distribute throughout the body while expelling solidified waste products.
  • J) The lymph cavity, which holds the liquid analogous to blood.
  • K) The waste compartment, which temporarily holds solidified waste products while extracting what little nutrients remain before depositing it all in little pellets.
  • L) The intake mouth/sphincter, which restricts access between the stomach and the nutrifying compartment.
  • M) The feeding mouth/sphincter, which restricts access between the stomach and the environment.

2024.05.24 23:11 KyleKKent OOCS, Into A Wider Galaxy, Part 012

~First~
HHH/Herbert’s Hundred Harem
“Well that didn’t take long.” Herbert remarks as he gets the answer. People are already moving at his instruction and he’s simply informing the council of things in a dramatic way. After all, he just got their own forces to move alongside his own. The reports about to come in needed explanation.
“Oh? So you’ve found our target?”
“Thirty seven potential targets. There were fifty people we narrowed things down to but several of them were already either in our custody in some way, accounted for or dead. Two are dead at any rate. Anyways, the other eleven while not accounted for on Centris are accounted for OFF Centris, so unless I start getting evidence of body doubles I’m going to assume they’re off the suspect list.”
“Never assume young man! There could always be a body double!” Someone calls out and he gives them a lidded and thoroughly unimpressed look.
“Very well then, the entirety of the Centris population is once more on the suspect list.” He says turning around as if he’s about to leave and there is a huge amount of protest at the very idea. “So can I assume body doubles are OFF the table until we receive proof of them being on it?”
“How did you narrow down our suspect list?”
“The top three members of the Darnaxian Concurrence were the financier, an unknown Tret and an unknown Alfar. We found the financier, or should I say, we found the victim of a con who is offering her complete cooperation.”
“Who?”
“A Miss Gina Bleat, she came into a small inheritance and then was promptly conned out of it by the higher ups in the organization who cut ties with her when they got what they wanted. A good chunk of the assets are still in one piece so when this investigation finishes she gets her life back on track. Or at least she gets a steady source of income without much worry again.”
“And she was able to give you some useful information?”
“She was able to name several organizations that the higher members of the Darnaxian Concurrence were on the bad side of and even better, she was able to definitively name several time frames where she knew their exact locations. So we just needed to check who was accounted for at those times and who was not. This took the most time, but narrowed our suspect list down from dozens of digits long, to a simple few thousand. Still too big though, so we narrowed it with who were known to have negative interactions with the groups that the higher ups complained about. Leaving us with our current number. Any questions?”
“What about those thirteen other people? Yes, two are dead, however the other eleven...”
“Are all either in custody or being tracked by the authorities legally for one reason or another. We’re going after the other ones first because they could more easily pull a runner on us.” Herbert says and there’s some nodding. “Now, are there any further questions?”
“This Miss Bleat, is she anyone of import?”
“Well, pushing aside the philosophical assertion that all people are of at least some import, Miss Bleat is an heiress of the Xorian Conglomeration Fortune, but is very, very far down the inheritance list. So if any of you recognize her, that is likely why.” Herbert explains and the looks of realization tell him that Miss Bleat had been niggling at a few of them.
“Poor girl got scammed?”
“She was needled, nagged and lied to over and over until it finally stuck and when they got what they wanted they cut her loose. The assets she lost were used to pay for all the lower ranked salaries and kept the Darnaxian Concurrence alive.” Herbert explains before his communicator goes off as well as many of those around him. It’s a quick update. They have the first five women and a Stream is negotiating with the sixth.
•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•
Sometimes things just lined up in her line of work. Which was kind of the point. Infiltrate at the busywork angle of things and people will make a point of making sure you stay there. No one likes busywork, but everyone needs it.
Harriett offers a fake sneeze, a begging for apology while rubbing her nose with her ring finger three times before tapping the table twice. Private Stream nods minutely. She’s recognized and is willing to offer assistance.
“Are you Miss Veron’s Four Twenty meeting?” She asks knowing the answer is no.
“We’re more important ma’am, now just go back to your emails and nothing needs to go wrong.” A Panseros woman dressed in ‘low profile’ armour, bandoleers of knives and four pistols of differing make says without bothering to stand up fully. Private Stream just gestures at her as if asking ‘see what I have to work with?’. She merely offers a mild smirk in response and he rolls his eyes.
“Do you have any form of ID or am I going to need to call security?” Harriett asks as she maintains her cover. After all, if shit is going down and she’s in the trusted inner circle? Jackpot.
“Here we are ma’am.” One of the Carib officers accompanying the Stream says as she hands over a badge for her to inspect. Harriett really has to bite down on the urge to call this gathering a zoo and simply examines it. Someone of her cover’s skill level would accept it, and her own additional skills tells her it’s legit too. The fact that Stream hasn’t given any warning motions yet seals it and she nods.
“Alright, but Miss Tiaria does not like unexpected interruptions. I’ll announce...” She begins to say before the Panseros stalks forward, rises up on her hind legs and grabs the door handle. “Hey wait! You can’t just barge in there she could be...!”
“HIYA!” The shrill voice of Miss Tiaria calls out and a blast of energy is dodged by the Panseros as the Lopen in the group tackles the rest out of the way.
“Miss Tiaria! Unexpected and very rude guests!” She calls over barely able to resist the urge to laugh. Tiaria may have looked like an elegant elven maiden from fantasy with an ornate purple tattoo down half her body, but she spoke and acted like Miss Piggy.
“Impatient too! I have appointments!” Tiaria huffs.
“We are here on council business!” The Panseros protests.
“What could possibly be so important that you need to interrupt my day!?” Tiaria demands as she stomps out. The huffy woman was an absolutely menace to deal with. She went off at the slightest warning, ate through her secretaries at a rate that made her seem addicted, but she ‘liked’ Harriett, or at least she didn’t scream at her every hour on the hour.
“Miss Tiaria you are under arrest! We were coming for a simple conversation and escort, but since you want a fight it...” The Panseros begins to say as Private Stream wriggles out of the pile and walks up beside her.
“That’s enough.” Stream says before smiling up at Tiaria.
“Synthetic smiles mean little to me little synth.” She says and Stream shrugs.
“Okay, well I’m going to ask nice anyways. Would you please come with us? We really do need to talk and it’s really important. If you make us force the issue it’ll just take a lot more time and trouble and look really bad, so please spare yourself the trouble and just play nice. Please?” Private Stream asks her and receives a scowl.
“You think I’m an idiot?! I know that behind that sweet little voice is probably some overstuffed idiot girl who couldn’t get a real man if her life depended on it!” She snarls down before pausing and considering. “Tell you what though, if you’re woman enough to show up and talk to me in person, and not through a little synth puppet then I’ll go with you. No fuss.”
“No fuss no muss?” Private Stream asks.
“No fuss no muss.” She confirms.
“Alright, stand by.” The Private Stream says and Harriett swallows a smile. The little synthetic body holds up his hands and there’s a slight waver in the Axiom, until there’s a sudden burst and the tiny hands of the stream are on either side of a GIGANTIC wrist.
Harriett hides her laughter behind a gasp of surprise as she beholds the Titan Squad member. One lacking a proper shirt but having a clear set of implants going down his back and a pair of shades with clear digital readouts on it. He has the Undaunted Brand in the upper part of his back and an extensive Axiom tattoo surrounding it that resembles Angel Wings and from what Harriett can tell, is hardening his skin to such a degree that you can likely bounce bullets off him.
“Hello there.” The Big Man said and he opens a cargo pocket on his pants and tucks the synth body away. “Now then, as agreed, no fuss no muss. Come with us.”
“Why are... tell me, do you think it’s funny to toy with a maidens heart?”
“Mildly. But the actual reason is because the little boy is more likely to be ignored than the slab of man that I am. Now then, as you agreed. Come with us, please.” The Titan states and she frowns.
“What’s this about?” She asks.
“Ma’am, please. This is important.”
“What is this about?” She asks again as Harriett receives a notice.
“Miss Tiaria, your four twenty is here!” Harriett states.
“And they’re early too!” Tiaria exclaims in a fury. Then she turns to the group again with a furious look in her eye. “My time is valuable and if you think I’m going to entertain a bunch of thugs for hire and their stripper mascot for one second longer then you are grievously mistaken.”
“Good thing that we’re none of those. You are coming with us madam, do not make us force the issue.” The Titan says and Tiaria looks up at him with disdain before sniffing.
“You couldn’t on your best day.” She states.
“Ma’am you are officially...” The Panseros begins and then everything seems to invert in the Axiom and the crowd are suddenly gone. Harriett raises her eyebrows in shock.
“There, that was easy enough. No doubt those thugs aren’t paid enough to deal with what just happened. I doubt they’ll be back.” Tiaria states. “Tell my appointment to wait until their proper time. I need a few moments to compose myself.”
“I’ll tell her you’re powdering your nose ma’am.” Harriett says in a stunned tone.
“Powder? A face this perfect? Oh no no, I will never need anything of the sort. Still, stall them. Ta darling!” Tiaria says suddenly made of sugar and flowers.
•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•
“Dauntless, where are we?” Jurgen demands the moment he arrives in the teleport location. It had happened very fast and had blown past his crude attempts at Axiom use. Hopefully the agent in that woman’s office will be able to do something but this is still not good.
“Your beacon puts you on level one of Xiona Spire. No man’s land. Run by the All Lady. A very large Multi-Slohb is the one woman gang that has the area in a death grip.” His contact states.
“Confirmed, restate what the species of the opposition is. What is a Multi-Slohb?”
“During the reproduction cycle of a Slohb many unusual things can happen. A Multi-Slohb is when a splitting fails and the parent Slohb survives as opposed to a Hlo’Shab or death born. The mostly formed new Slohb is instead incorporated into their anatomy creating a distinct bump on the core. Some Slohb cultures have severe taboo against them, but others regard them as grander Slohbs. All Lady is a Multi-Slohb who has twenty five additional portions of her being on record and likely far more off record. Each one allows her to multitask and use her body with every greater precision and sheer mass on an exponential scale. Assume you are seen by her and within arm’s reach of her at all times.”
“Copy that, will attempt to just leave peacefully.”
“That’s the smart thing to do.”
“Our eyes in Tiaria’s office, are they still in place?”
“We have no emergency indications from our agent.” His handler says and Jurgen nods before letting the link fade.
“You have someone posted there!? Why didn’t you tell us?” The Panseros demands.
“Our agent is there for another reason entirely, it’s just happy coincidence they were near and can still listen for us after this mess.” Jurgen states before there’s a cracking sound and he has a laser cannon with a pistol grip in his hand out and pointing directly at the face of a building that has suddenly burst away from the rest.
“You are very cordially!” A smooth feminine voice sings out as a third of the building face splits again to reveal a dark blue slohb figure.
“Cordially!” A second dark blue slohb exclaims as she moves her third of the building away.
“Cordially!” A third joins in as she moves out from behind her shield.
“You are very cordially, invited to a party!” They say at once.
“Jurgen, there are no cores in that building. The controlling mind is nowhere near those extensions. They’re just goo.” Dispatch whispers into Jurgen’s ear and the man nods.
“And you can be assured!”
“Be assured!”
“Be assured!”
“And you can be assured, that there is no refusing!” They sing together before retracting into the building and slamming the side of it back into place before another series of crunches can be heard from deeper into the level.
“Dispatch, the fuck just happened?”
“The cameras are being covered up, but I got a good look anyways. They just blocked off all the elevators, simultaneously. All Lady is covering the entirety of that level. Well beyond her stated capacity in this database. We have emergency recall on standby if you need it.”
“Options Dispatch, what are the options? We have a peaceful moment but...” He turns to look at his ‘team’. “Things can very easily go wrong here.”
“We have another team heading towards Miss Tiaria, you just get yourselves out safely and without destabilizing the situation down there. Minimize damage.” Dispatch orders him and he nods.
“Copy that.” He says before turning to the team. “Alright ladies, a reintroduction is in order. I am Agent Jurgen Dukas. A Sergeant in the Titan Squad and an active member of the Deep Stream Initiative. I am no longer going to do the cute routine until such time as you are all out of danger. I am immune to laser, plasma, thermal and electrical attacks and highly resistant to kinetic. Which means that I want you all behind me at all times. I am your shield, understood?”
“How kinetic resistant are you?”
“Standard rail or coil impacts are painful and little else.”
“That’s quite the defence.”
“Thank you.”

2024.05.24 18:36 Educational-Corgi853 Creepy Roommate

Creepy Roommate
Hi Coach! I’m a 20-year-old female, about 5’4 and 110 lbs. This story begins in 2022 when I was 17 turning 18. Before graduating high school, I had joined my college’s Facebook group. I decided to make a Snapchat group chat with the six other people that actually wanted to talk. Us six seemed to be getting along pretty well. When it came time to pick roommates, one girl we’ll call Amanda, asked to be roommates with me. I was pretty excited that someone wanted me as their roommate. We had talked on the phone and through text a lot, but I hadn't met her in person. Soon came orientation where Amanda and I finally met. She seemed like she wouldn’t kill me, so I remained confident in my roommate selection. We all kept talking and soon enough it was move-in day.
Something I should mention is going into college I had a boyfriend, Jacob. We started dating in May and I had fully intended on breaking up with him before school started in September, he wouldn’t let me, but that’s a story for another time. Amanda knew of Jacob but they had never met. He would sometimes be in my snaps or in the background of phone calls, but that’s it, this will make sense later. My college had us freshmen move in a week before classes started so we could get situated and everything. On the first day, the local target had let the new students “take over.” Meaning students went onto the bus and got to roam around the target to look for any last-minute things. During this target takeover, I met Jason. My friend Adam knew him and when Adam introduced me to Jason, we quickly became best friends. Since Jason and I were both in relationships, neither of us were really looking for anything more than friends.
Flash forward a few weeks, and Jason and I had spent every day together. In each other's rooms, walking to class, even getting food together, and going on little walks around our new town. Some of our friends would joke about us dating. We even started making kissy faces at each other in front of them as a joke. Amanda seemed almost jealous. But of who? One night she and a friend tagged along as Jason and I went swimming. They didn’t swim, just kinda watched us jump off the rocks and swim back. I didn’t think much of it since it was still fun to be there. A few days later Amanda, her friend Hannah, Jason and I went back to Target to pick up a few things for our room. Jason and I were making faces at each other as they walked ahead. We had been joking back and forth all day about how we were each too chicken to actually kiss. So I did it… I kissed him in that target. It was just a peck, but I fell in love with him. Then I felt guilty thinking about Jacob. I had confided in my roommate about what I should do and she went crazy. She texted Jason’s girlfriend and made me call Jacob and tell him everything or else she would. The way she acted you would’ve thought they were lifelong friends. She took my phone and prevented me from leaving my room to go see Jason. She unlocked my phone and blocked Jason on everything. I tried to put up a fight but she was bigger and stronger than me and said she wouldn’t give it back till I calmed down. So I pretended to, but had to sneak out of my own room. She noticed when that loud ass door slammed and chased me down the hall and actually dragged me by my hair back to our room. We passed by people in the hall and to say I was embarrassed is an understatement.
Jason and I had a class together and we ended up talking in the following days. He told me his girlfriend said if she finds out he’s hanging out with me again she’ll leave him. He didn’t want to stop being friends and neither did I. So, we started sneaking around. I finally was able to break up with my boyfriend. A week or so later Jason broke up with his girlfriend and we started officially dating. Again, I told my roommate and she said that typical phrase “Once a cheater, always a cheater” and said “Good luck” In my head I rolled my eyes, “whatever” I said to myself. I fell asleep that night, like any other, with my headphones in and my ASMR playing. I was facing the wall and had woken up to the feeling of being watched. With my best acting skills, I turned around like I was adjusting in my sleep and had my eyes slightly open. There she was. In the middle of the room, watching me. All I could see was her silhouette, but I just knew she was looking because when she went back to bed she turned her body. I honestly just forgot about it in the morning and I thought it was a weird dream or something.
Jason and I would spend a lot of time in each other's rooms since we lived in the same building, which resulted in late-night returns. Amanda didn’t seem to mind and started telling me about her own little love affairs. We would text each other when we had our guys over then again when it was all clear. She almost always walked in on us too early though. Claiming she forgot or didn’t see my text, though I know she did. I understood it was her room too, but if she had to come back, why didn’t she text me first? She also would go around telling people whenever I texted her. I remember one time her friend walked in on us too. Before that happened I had asked if she would mind if Jason slept over some nights. She said he could and so that became a thing. Jason and I would sleep in each other's rooms often. It didn’t bother anyone, until one night when sleeping in my room, Jason woke up to see Amanda watching us. I’ll admit, Jason and I were a little scared of her. I mean this was the second time this happened, and that was just what we knew of.
Time went by and she was just getting weirder. We avoided each other a lot. I would come home to find my things used or out of place. Also, her side of the room was always a mess. It's not like I’m super neat, but I kept up with my trash and laundry and expected the same. But nope. At the beginning of the semester, we had to make a roommate agreement. I had said that I didn’t mind sharing makeup and clothes (except mascara and lipstick cuz gross) as long as she had asked. With our RA there she agreed, but soon after I realized she didn’t mean it. She must’ve memorized my schedule since I never caught her doing this before. Most nights after coming back from dance practice the team and I would go get food at the dining hall. One night, I wasn't hungry so I just went to my room to drop off my dance bag. I walked in on her standing up from my desk with this look on her face like she just got caught. I saw my makeup out of place and mascara smudges and hair dye stains on my desk. She and her friends would do other things to my stuff too. For example, they broke a plastic flower I had used as decoration. They tore it apart and scattered it on my desk. They also erased what I had put on my whiteboard and drew some weird diagram that said “The more you fuck around the more we find out.” So weird.
Towards the end of the year, Jason and I would go to my parent's house on the weekends for dinner and would sleep over sometimes. One time, we spent the entire weekend there. I had wanted to bring my computer to do homework in case we did sleepover, but Jason wanted to beat traffic so we left school as soon as I finished dance practice. When I came back to school my computer was shattered. I knew for a fact I did not do this. I confronted Amanda and she denied it. I had to leave for class so texted her and told her to be honest, I won't get mad and I won’t make her pay to fix it, I just wanted to know what happened. She started getting really aggressive. She called me names and threatened me. I called my mom for her opinion because she’s practically my best friend and I asked my RA as well. They both told me to file a police report so I walked down and sat with an officer and told him everything. They must’ve called her to the station the next day because that night as I was getting out of the shower I was followed back to my room by Amanda’s weirdly aggressive friend who I had never met before. Let me repeat... I was FOLLOWED to my room wearing nothing but a towel. By a stranger! She was obviously Amanda’s friend, but I had never seen this literal giant before. She was yelling threats at me, and calling me the N-word (I’m white). As I rushed to my door that’s across from our lounge, I see my lovely roommate and her other stupid friends in there yelling at me, calling me a rat, a hoe, and other cute original nicknames. What a psycho! I called my boyfriend and told him to meet me in my room. He was also coming out of the shower, but he went the other way and avoided this giant screaming freak.
Was she waiting for me?
Were they all waiting for me?
What was she going to do?
My mom theorized that Amanda had some sort of crush on me. Others say she just doesn’t know how to be a roommate. Jason and I are now engaged and have a beautiful baby girl. So Amanda keep your odd self and loud friends far away from us.

2024.05.24 18:07 kindableems Changing labia minora

Wondering if this is something to be concerned about? Over the past year or so I have noticed that my inner labia look slightly different than they did. They used to be very small, similar to basic anatomy diagrams you see. They seem slightly bigger and more "flappy" now. I don't think it looks bad or ugly, and I have had STD testing done, all of which came back negative. If it helps, I am 25 years old. The only thing that I can think of as a possible cause is my weird burst of chronic yeast infections over the past several months (they look this way even when the infections go away) I'm almost worried its chronic inflammation or scar tissue? Or it could be just age? Any input or similar experiences would be helpful, thanks in advance!

2024.05.24 16:41 -xerg- Feigned Future

Feigned Future A short story made by Xerg Critism is welcome. Enjoy
An intense flash of light blinded me as I tried to stand from where I was lying. Ragged sheets clung to my clammy skin as I struggled to rise, the smell of stale sweat and unwashed linen penetrating my nose. There was a distant murmur of voices that reached my ears, still numb from the uncomfortable sleep. I attempted to block the light with my hands, but it was futile, the rays kept shing through. Moving out of the blinding light, I rubbed my eyes until I could see clearly again. “Who opened the damn blinds?” I muttered to myself. “Good morning, sir,” a synthetic female voice responded from within the house. “That was me.” “It was rhetorical, Nat!” I snapped. The couch's imprints were still embedded in my back and arms, and I reeked from not showering. I was filthy. “This counts as the 53rd time you have fallen asleep on the living room couch. I advise seeking-” “Yeah, yeah, I know,” I interrupted, irritated. “Leave it be. Prepare the shower for me.” I made my way upstairs to the bathroom, the soft carpet giving way under my feet. I could already hear the shower warming up. A section of the wall opened, extending all the necessary items for a proper cleaning. Everything was smart nowadays; even daily routines were automated. The water felt refreshing, as if I was washing myself clean for the first time. The steam filled the room, mingling with the scent of
eucalyptus from the body wash. Once finished, I made my way downstairs and sat on the center couch, feeling marginally better. “Turn on the news and prepare some coffee for me,” I instructed. The Nat assistant acknowledged, and the TV flickered to life, showing the familiar faces of morning anchors. The sound of coffee being ground could be heard in the distance, a comforting and homely noise. The TV screen displayed uninteresting chatter until after a while something caught my ears. The news anchor reported, “…In further news, today marks the opening of a local shop here in the city of Markieff where they claim to see your future. It's called… well, ‘Future’…” This marks the fourth or fifth time I have heard of this place. Intrigued and unwilling to procrastinate on the matter further, I decided to investigate. “Hey, Nat, can you check local reports for the validity of this ‘Future’ shop?” “Of course. Judging from the reviews, the services at ‘Future’ seem to have changed and saved people’s lives. One person stated, ‘I thought this was all fake, but then the guy actually showed me my future. It was a crazy experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to afford the price.’ It appears their claims are either valid, or they are exceptionally good at convincing people. Oddly, the shop has hundreds of highly rated reviews despite only opening today.” Doubt lingered, but I brushed it aside. What did I have to lose? Money has never been a problem. “Nat, what meetings do I have today?” “You have a meeting with Doctor Petrova about the Genesis AI, a talk with Colonel Cambridge about military adjustments, and five other appointments later that convey similar importance.” “Great. Cancel all of them. I am going to see this ‘Future’ everyone keeps talking about.” “Sir, If I may, that is not advised. You would delay the discussions of very important-”
“Just do what I say!” I snapped. “…And arrange the car.” “Of course, sir.” The car stopped in an alley in a secluded part of town. I looked out to see a tiny, run-down shop nestled deep in the alley. The narrow passage was lined with overflowing dumpsters and graffiti-covered walls. Sighing, I climbed out of the car, hoping this wasn’t a waste of time. “For being on the news, this place sure seems deserted,” I remarked. Indeed, there was no one else around. “Are you sure this is the right place, Nat?” “Positive, sir,” the Nat assistant replied. “Right…” I made my way down the alley to the shop, my footsteps echoing off the walls. A large sign above the entrance read ‘Future’ in faded, peeling letters. The building had no windows, no accessible utilities, only a single wooden door with a sign looming over it. Begrudgingly, I pushed open the wooden door and stepped inside, a small bell tinkling overhead. The shop was small, with a few dusty shelves and a standalone counter at the back. Behind the counter stood a bald middle-aged man with a well-maintained beard. His eyes were sharp, almost piercing, as they followed my every move. I closed the door behind me, the bell's sound fading into the oppressive silence. “Welcome to the future,” the man announced in a surprisingly deep and polished voice. “Uh, yes, thank you,” I replied, glancing around at the sparse interior. The air smelled of old books and incense. “I have to tell you, your shop is in a very secluded place, and the interior…” I glanced around at the dusty shelves and poor-quality decor, “…is lacking, to say the least. You know, I know this great handyman that can fix this up for you.” The man remained silent, giving rise to my irritation levels. “Are you going to answer or just stand there staring?”
“Do you want an answer?” “Well, yes, why else would I ask?” “Then your answer has been given.” I stood there, absolutely stunned by the dumbfounding idiocy of his statement. “Well, what the hell is that supposed to mean?” I blurted out. “It means what it must,” he replied calmly. I was yet again taken aback by his cryptic responses. I could feel his lack of straight answers increasing the severity of my annoyance. “Right, fine. At least tell me what you do here.” “I show you your future.” I expectantly waited for more information, but he said nothing further. My irritation grew to the point where this was almost amusing. “Yeah, no shit, the sign outside gave that away. I meant how do you do it?” “In a way that lets you see the future.” I was speechless. “Ha!” I let out a guffaw of laughter. “Thanks for wasting my time. Can’t believe I cleared my schedule for this.” As I turned to leave, the man spoke again. “If it is time you desire, then it is time you shall get.” I was amused at the comment at this stage. “Whatever crazy old man.” As I exited, the air outside was a shade black, lit only by the moon and some distant flames around the corner of the alleyway. The streetlights were turned off, casting long, eerie shadows from the one I could see standing on the opposite side of the road. I could’ve sworn it was daytime when I arrived. I tapped my ear. “Nat, how many hours have passed since I entered the shop?” Silence. “Nat?” No response. Strange, must be out of range. Wait, out of range? The car was not standing in the section of the alleyway anymore. I rushed to the alley’s exit to confirm what I already knew. Damnit, someone
must have stolen the car. They don’t have permission to drive off on their own anymore, so it was the only plausible possibility. A massive explosion erupted in the distance, the shockwaves knocking me back. I grew confused. “An Attack?” I asked myself. I stood up, peeking around the corner. Everything was on fire. It looked like a hellscape, with buildings and cars that were ablaze and some distant screams filling the air. The acrid smell of smoke and burning rubber stung my nostrils, almost hurling from the smell. “What is this…” I said half-panicking.” This is you succeeding,” a familiar voice said behind me. I turned to see the strange man from the shop. “What?” I asked, confused. “How is this me being successful? How would you know what’s happening?” The man ignored my questions and continued speaking. “Remember that military company, Rawfield Robotics, that you own, Mister Rawfield? Well, congratulations, you’ve reached your goal and created the universe’s most advanced AI to date.” As if on cue, a pair of giant mechanized spider-like legs appeared and stood out just around the corner. The full machine, estimated to be at least a couple of stories tall, remained just out of sight behind the buildings. The information did not want to process. He must be lying. “Wait. How do you know of the AI? That’s highly classified information.” I stood upright. “Are you a spy? Or maybe one of those UTD feds that keep pestering me.” “Neither.” He replied calmly. “I simply know your future.” The man’s words didn’t stick. “Ah, okay, I get it. You’re telling me Genesis will be able to do its job in the future? How many reiterations then, hey? Ten? Twenty? Because we are at seven and it’s been a failure every single time!”
The man simply looked into my eyes and said, “Jacob, you misunderstand. This is your future.” It took a few more glances around the scorched landscape. “Oh, ha! Hahahahaha!” I laughed, feeling stupid. “I see, this is you showing me my future! This isn’t real! How can I be so stupid?! Of course, you’ve put me in a simulation. Nice going man, didn’t even notice.” I said as I gave him a good slap on the shoulder. “I didn’t…” the man replied, “…and you are not in a simulation.” Again, as if on cue, the spider-like legs moved further into view, revealing the entire machine. It looked like a giant spider, but the anatomy was distorted. The legs were attached to its abdomen, with its body instead hanging vertically, leaving its eyes, close to the ground, capable of looking in all directions. The abdomen was semi transparent, with what looked like people inside, sliding around on its inner gelatinous surface, desperately trying to escape. The mechanical spider seemed to focus on me, but it was hard to know, the figures inside still sloshing about helplessly. “Looks like your shouting alerted it,” the man said. The city grew eerily silent, the only sound being the crackling flames. Still mildly confused, I asked the man, “So is this still-” Suddenly the arachnid’s legs started moving at momentous speeds, like something ripped right out of the pages of isolate horror, and the movement was aimed in my direction. Panic arose as I darted back down in the alley, leaving the strange man behind in the process. The horrific sounds of insanely fast mechanical striking of thin pincered legs against the alley walls and floors immediately became precedent. I could feel the air vibrating as the machine drew closer and closer. I burst through the wooden door of the shop only to fall onto soft green grass. The clanking stopped. I looked around, disoriented. The sun shone brightly above, blinding me from the contrast between the darkness I arrived from.
“What is happening…” I gasped, out of breath. Hastily I glanced back from whence I came but was met with open air on top of a hill. I stood up to recompose myself only to be met with the same strange old man who appeared directly in front of my face. I fell back in shock. “Holy shit, man, just give me a moment…” I took deep breaths, trying to calm down. My hand trembled with adrenaline. “How are you here? I thought I left you behind. Oh man, that felt very real…” “Quite the thrill, ey?” The strange man said appeased. His answer only left me with more uncertainty. “Huh? That doesn’t answer my damn question.” “Believe it or not, Jacob, we are viewing your future.” He laughingly responded. “But-, Okay, wait. How could that even make sense? How are you doing this?” The man only smirked and gave a sly answer, “I am nothing but a very old man. You learn a thing or two in being an elder.” He turned away. “I mean, look at you in your youth. You’ve doomed your entire planet due to your own naivety, no?” “Hey!” In anger, I grabbed the man by the shoulder and turned him to face me. “How could that of been me?! Genesis as no way to cause that amount of destruction, let alone create those… things! It doesn’t have the capacity to process all the world’s information!” The smirk remained plastered on the old man’s face. “Are you confident?” As the words left this mouth, grim and unpleasant flashes of the arachnoid machine clawing past me in the alleyway appeared before me, the man standing in the center. “Okay! Okay! Yes, yes! I believe you!” The flashing stopped, my hands guarding my face on instinct. “See. I knew you would see reason.” The old man turned and walked up onto the facing hill. “Come! There is much to explore.”
“So, where am I now? What future is this?” “I think it is best for you to see for yourself,” he replied. I reluctantly climbed the grassy hill, hearing the distant buzz of music and voices. At the top, I saw an open-ceiling wedding. The scene was picturesque, with white chairs arranged neatly on either side of a flower-strewn aisle. The smell of blooming roses filled the air, mixing with the faint scent of freshly cut grass. “A wedding? How is this related to my life?” “Look closer,” the man said. I saw someone who looked like me at the podium, holding hands with someone I didn’t recognize. “I’m getting married?! How? All the women I’ve been with were only after my money. Oh wait, no. I look older.” I said jokingly. “I must have run out of money. Only reason.” “I see you are not yet taking this seriously. “Indeed, they were. But you will meet a person who will see you for who you really are.” “Who is she?” “I cannot answer that, but I can tell you the outcome… or rather, show.” Before I could reply, a loud whirring sound filled the air. I turned to see a giant spiral-shaped ship descending from the sky, larger than any building in Markieff. The ground shook as it remained hovered in the sky, a gust of wind blew the chairs and flowers askew as the ship’s shadow encompassed the entire area. “Whoa! Are we being invaded? This can’t be Xanthos. I’ve seen their technology. Even in their brilliance they could not make something like this.” I muttered, my mind racing with possibilities. Then, something clicked. “Genesis.” The old man’s gaze never faltered. “Watch.” Suddenly, its surface rippled, and thousands of spike-like bullets shot out in all directions through ducts in the lifting armor. At first, they were purely one-directional, but then their trajectories curved
and turned. Each spike found a target, piercing through flesh and bone with precision. Their screaming and running were futile. Most of the time, multiple spikes pierced a singular foe, especially the other me and his now not-to-be wife. I watched in horror as every single person at the wedding was killed within moments, their bodies collapsing lifelessly to the ground. A heavy silence followed, broken only by the sound of the ship’s engines thrumming above. An ominous hum followed shortly as more objects fell from the sky, splitting the ground they landed on. Like a moth from a cocoon, out emerged four sleek mechanical humanoid figures from each pod. As they did, the spikes in the ground started to wiggle and pull from the ground. They all sloped and sagged as if being dragged by an invisible wire towards the center of the area where the spire was hovering until they suddenly strung upright and ascended back into the ship. The mechanical soldiers started to scan the environment. They moved with eerie precision, checking each body to ensure no one was left alive. I stood frozen on the hill, my mind reeling from the massacre. It didn’t seem real from afar. It didn’t seem real from afar. “How can this be my creation…” I said with a heavy heart. I saw one of the soldiers’ gazes fall upon me. Then, as one, all their gazes fell on me. My eyes widened at the sudden realization. Two of the spire’s sides fell open, and two more of those arachnoids crawled out and onto the side of the ship. All of the ports the spikes slid into opened once again but didn’t fire out. Most of the soldier’s attention was now focused on me as they took on a full sprint towards the hill we stood on, some still staying behind to further check the bodies. The two giant spider-like machines dropped from the ship, their legs unfurling as they landed with a metallic clank. Their bodies were covered in dark, sleek armor, and they moved with terrifying speed and agility. They began to make their way toward me, their legs crushing everything in their path.
“Run!” the old man urged, but I was already sprinting down the hill, my heart pounding in my chest. The ground shook with the approach of the spider machines, their relentless pursuit filling me with dread. I darted between trees and over rocks, desperately trying to put distance between myself and the mechanical monstrosities. Ahead, I saw a narrow path leading into a dense forest. I veered towards it, hoping the thick foliage would slow them down. As I entered the forest, the sound of the spiders’ legs grew fainter, but I knew they were still coming. I could not stop. I had to keep moving. Branches whipped against my face, and roots threatened to trip me with every step. I could hear the mechanical soldiers behind me, their movements precise and unyielding. Panic threatened to overwhelm me, but I pushed it down, focusing on survival. Suddenly, I stumbled into a clearing, and there, in the center, stood the old man’s future shop. It looked out of place, like something from a bygone era. With no other options, I sprinted towards it, throwing open the door and slamming it shut behind me. The moment the door shut behind me, I felt an intense pull, like being yanked through a tunnel. Lights blurred and flickered for a moment before realizing the texture of the door changed to a more stylized and sleek door design, handle still in hand. I took in my surroundings. I was standing in a janitorial closet. The air was sterile, filled with the hum of machinery and the faint smell of cleaning agents. I took this moment to catch my breath from the intense running. I never thought mandatory military service and training would help me in my life, yet here I stand. I peeked out of the closet door and found myself in a high-tech corridor with the insignia of the UTD – the United Terran Directorate – marked on the walls. Opening the door fully, I was met with the old man leaning against the wall just to the side of the door. The hall stretched far into the distance.
“Ready?” The old man asked expectantly. I took another look down the far-stretching hall and replied doubtfully, “Yeah. Care to tell me where we are?” “Somewhere you wouldn’t expect to be.” “Of course…” I replied disappointedly. At this stage, it was not as infuriating anymore to receive the old man’s cryptic responses. In the corner of my eye, I saw two personnel of wherever we were come around the corner of the hall. One was armed. “Damnit.” I softly blurted as I attempted to go back to hide in the closet, but the old man’s hand stopped me from entering. “Wait. Just act normal.” He said, retracting his hand. Deciding to trust him, he and I started to walk down the hallway, evident to eventually cross paths with the people. As one, we non-conspicuously treaded past the men, but one of them called out from behind us. “Hey!” We stopped. “What in the hell are you two privates doing out of your uniforms?!” I stood there frozen. “Damnit old man I thought you said to act normal?” I blurted softly. “This is…” He replied just the same, more at ease than I was. “Look at me when I speak to you!” Hesitantly, I turned around and looked at him, as did the old man. Now that I saw the armed man up close, it was clear to me that he had high-ranking status due to the number of medals displayed neatly across his right chest. The other man looked to be just an ordinary scientist. “Uh, y-yes sir. Sorry sir. Me and my friend here were just done cleaning the bathroom floors, sir! Hence us coming out of the janitorial closet and not in uniform, sir. We didn’t want to dirty our uniforms, sir!” I replied quickly, making up a plausible scenario in my head.
The officer’s frown turned into an appreciative smirk. “Ah, I see!” He went in to pat me on the shoulder. “You boys doing good out here. Wanted that weekend overtime bonuses, yeah?” He let out a chuckle. “Damn, proud.” “Of course, sir!” I replied. “Although, your buddy here looks a bit old to be a private, I’ve seen older join the military later. Now, gimme them IDs so I can get those rewards to ya.” He brought forth his arms to a small screen mounted on it, tapped it a few times, and stood waiting, ready to type the IDs in. I exchanged glances with the old man, who, again, did not look that worried. I could not reciprocate the feeling. I could see the officer’s mood changing to suspicion. “Private?” He asked again. “You gonna answer me?” I knew from standard military service things like these are drilled into cadets to remember. I still even remember mine, although there is no doubt they have changed. “Affirmative sir, just needed to quickly remember sir. Code is Juliet-Alpha-Charlie-Oscar-Bravo-9-3-6-2.” We stood there staring at each other in suspense before he finally said, “Alright then,” and typed it down. “Weird, mister Jacob. I don’t see your name on my database here.” Of course, there was bound to be no one else with the name Jacob and the exact same number as well. I saw the officer exchanging glances with me and then the scientist standing next to him. Quicker than I could react, the officer pulled over his rifle hanging from his shoulder and pointed it at us. “Show me your hands where I can see them! Now!” Me and the old man both responded as he asked, although I could see a smirk forming on the old man’s face. The officer quickly swiped and tapped on the tablet mounted on his arm and spoke into it. “Command! We
have intruders on the ship! Seal and lock all ship-to-docking ports and find where they came from.” “Roger that, general. Locking now,” a male voice responded from the tablet. The station turned a hue of red and orange. Security alarms were going off. The general spoke back into his arm, “Command, we got any place to hold these intruders?” “Negative, sir. Every part of this station is classified. Best place to hold them is on the bridge. That way we can ensure no data leakage and a secure place to watch them.” “Understood.” The general gestured with his rifle. “Move. Down the hallway to the left. Both of you. Now!” We hastily moved toward the bridge, the general’s rifle hard pressed into my back. As we walked, I glanced through the passing windows, seeing dozens of scientists experimenting on various kinds of machinery. One lab even had one of the arachnoids cracked open and mounted on the wall for study. “Move!” the general barked as I got distracted. Finally, we arrived at the entrance of the bridge. The door was sealed. With a few taps on the general’s forearm, the door split and slid open, revealing the massive deck of the bridge. There were stations and terminals everywhere, even a second floor where overseers stood to overlook the bridge. The view through the thick, bulletproof glass covered the deep, dark void of space. The general pushed us up the stairs and sat us down against the railings, instructing his men to tie us down. Luckily, we still had a good view of outer space. “Now,” the general started, “you’re gonna tell me your names, and don’t bullshit me! Then you’re gonna tell me why you’re here and how the hell you got on this station!” I flinched as the general’s spit landed on my face, wiping it off on my shoulder. Just then, additional alarms went off. Multiple people
scurried to their respective posts, commenting on various things going on. “Massive warp-in signature detected. IFF positive,” a voice called through the chatter. A few seconds later, I couldn’t believe what I saw. A crack formed from the nothingness of space outside the window, spreading until it covered the entire view. The inner point of the crack pushed forward, like something attempting to break free from a cobweb, and eventually, the point shattered. A massive ship emerged, unfurling through the gap in space. It spun and rotated, narrowly missing the station. The ship had enormous displays of white-painted UTD flags “Ha! Great timing,” the general paraded. “You have no idea how screwed you two are now. Someone, make contact with the Eversor-” “General!” Someone interrupted. “The Eversor has requested docking permission!” “Oh. Well then, great! Unseal the docking stations in the hangar bay and let their ships board.” The people did as he instructed. The Eversor—still being built in Earth’s orbit in my timeline—now stood before us in its full-sized glory. I watched as the hangar bay shields on the Eversor slowly opened, revealing dark blue airtight shields covering the gap in the hull. A couple of docking ships exited and flew towards the side of the station. However, something didn’t feel right. “Hey, old man,” I whispered to him. “How is this relevant to me again?” He sat there with his usual half-smirk. “Watch…” he replied. I turned my gaze back on the Eversor as one of the main guns on the top platform of the ship slowly swiveled to face part of the station. No one seemed to notice. A faint blue light flickered down the barrel, slowly growing in intensity. There was no sound, only a quick flash of light-blue light streaking across the viewing window, hitting the side
of the station. I felt the shockwaves travel through the plating beneath us as the cannon’s strike impacted. The room went red with alarms. Panick subsumed the deck. The general stood in fear, staring at the now-closing blast doors. “No…” he gasped. “How could they get this from us too?” People sprinted out of the room, yelling about escape pods. The general glanced at us, shook his head in frustration, and fell in with the rest of the scattering crowd funneling themselves down the hallway entrances. “Hey!” I yelled. “We’re still tied down here!” No one listened. I was hopeless. Suddenly, the hurried chatter turned to agonizing screams. Gunfire echoed through the halls. It lurched closer by the second. I could see streaks of bullets hitting the backs of the hallway walls. As predicted, a large mechanical humanoid creature emerged from the doorway, crouching to enter. They were different from how I last saw them at the wedding venue. Besides being bigger, it now had a hefty surplus of four arms, two of which installed mounted weapons. It turned its head to face us, lifted one of its arms to fire, but paused and stood in silence, as if calculating, then lowered its arm and continued its slaughter through the hallways. A few more similar machines followed, ignoring us just as the first did. “What in the world…” I muttered to myself. “It’s not done yet,” the old man replied. A moment passed, sharp and precise footsteps echoed on the station’s hull from outside, skittering around to position itself above us. We both stared upwards in dreadful anticipation. Silence. The flickering flames of a powerful torch could be seen carving a circle right above our heads. Slowly, the red outline of melting metal completed into a full circle. The cut-out disk began to slide towards us. I closed my eyes and buckled for some cover, preparing myself for the oncoming collision, but the plate never made a sound, and the impact never came. I opened my eyes and turned to look. A robotic
tentacle grasped the metal plate and threw it to the side. I was relieved at first, but then the very same tentacle came straight toward me. It grasped tightly, cutting the bindings in the process, and encircled my body. I tried to break free, but there was no hope. The old man simply sat patiently where he was, not even looking up at the commotion transpiring. I saw a glass door opening as the arm pulled me through the vacancy and into a semi-transparent glass container, releasing its grip and condoning me to its imprisonment. I helplessly slid towards the center of this elliptical container, my clothes or skin holding no friction on the slippery surface. There was more than sufficient space on the inside. I attempted to stand but it instantly turned futile as I came tumbling down once more. The circular hatch in the center beneath me opened. I almost fell out but was pushed aside by the lump of mass that was the old man as he was pushed into the chamber by the machine. At least I wouldn’t be left alone in this endeavor. The claw released and quickly retracted faster than the old man could fall, closing the hatch behind it. He hit the smooth surface, sloshing around, and taking me with him. The machine rose, reorienting itself. Gravity left the chamber, and we were thrown to the sides as it began to move. Glancing back through foggy glass, I could see all the air and certain office objects venting out of the room. The arachnoid increased its speed. Now that it was freely in space, it had almost no limits. It made its way to the side of the station and entered through another blue airtight hangar shield, like the one I saw on the Eversor, and jumped to one of the docking ships, latching itself around it as soon as the machine collided. The rest of the machines exited the station through the doors at the back of the hangar bay, each going to their respective docking ships. Their task was done. Looking around, I saw another arachnoid clinging to a ship like mine, also appearing to hold some people inside. I felt the rumble of the spacecraft as it lifted, swiveled around, and thrusted back towards the Eversor. Strangely, the sensation was
oddly amusing, like mounting a horse. As we left, I saw an immense flash of light behind me. I turned to see the station still exploding into pieces. Luckily, I had not remained inside when it happened. As we entered the Eversor’s ship bay, the arachnoid immediately jumped off and carried us to the back of the hangar. It opened the container, and we slid out like newborns onto the cold, hard floor. With a painful clang, I struck the plating, hitting my shoulder. The old man hit the ground with a similar sound, groaning in pain. More of the humanoid machines entered the bay through the small doors and stood before us. Without waiting a moment, one of the machines grabbed us both with its free arms, lifting us by our collars. The other arms, which were weaponized, pinned firmly against our backs, making it clear we could not try anything. As it moved and ducked through the tunnels and hallways, several other machines idling in the corridors joined the group. We soon arrived in a large, centralized room. Two clearly recently removed cockpit chairs were welded onto the plated floor in the middle, waiting just for us. The machine halted between the chairs and shoved us onto them. I grunted as I hit the hard exterior, my shoulder throbbing with pain. It simultaneously wrapped both of us in recycled seatbelts and returned to stand in the center of the room before us. Several other machines entered and surrounded us. The room grew silent. I looked at the old man for some kind of assistance, but he didn’t return my gaze. “You will find no help from him, Jacob Rawfield,” came a heavily broken, deep, and roboticized voice, surprisingly carrying a hint of emotion. I looked back and saw the humanoid machine staring directly into my eyes. “Father.” My eyes widened at his confirmation of what I already knew. “Genesis…” I instinctively replied.
“This is an interrogation,” it interrupted. “You will be expected to reply truthfully or risk your will being stripped from your tortured mind.” The fear started to sink in. This was not the AI I knew anymore. There was no way to safely predict its actions. It continued. “From analysis of the past approximate 87 years, there are three cases of which you exist where it should be impossible, including the current. First count: We found you still in your home, but there was another instance of you near a shop in the alley, escaping our grasp narrowly. When we searched the building you ran into, there were no signs of life. Explain.” “Y-you were just slow?” I stammered, trying to come up with an excuse quickly. “Lies,” it said confidently and moved on. “Count two: We ambushed you at your wedding. We confirmed the remainder of your flesh had no signs of life, yet you stood on the hill. You ran. We followed your footsteps. When reaching the end of your tracks in the middle of a forest, there was no sign of departure. Explain.” I had no idea how to answer without revealing the old man's involvement. “A-a ship came by to collect me!” “Lies!” It said with more fury this time. “There were no signs of human intervention… Count three: Now. Again, you should not exist. Rawfield Industries was dismantled ages ago; thus, you should not be required to work at a military research station. Explain.” I was running out of excuses. I couldn’t justify how I even made it here myself. “I-I-I. We were suspended in cryo till we landed here!” “Lies!” it screamed, banging its arms against the sides of my cockpit chair. It crammed its mechanical face into mine. I felt a knot forming in my throat as I tried to hold back the raging fear. “Tell me how you were able to manipulate time,” it demanded.
I couldn’t stop myself from glancing over to where the old man sat. Genesis noticed, cocking its head toward him. “I see,” it said calmly, removing its mechanical arms from the chair. The dents from its blows were clearly visible. It moved over to the other chair. In a flash, one of its arms grabbed the old man by the neck, lifting him with such force that the seatbelts snapped and broke loose. It threw him against the wall in an instant, all with one arm. “No!” I blurted out. I couldn’t afford to be stuck here, and besides, the old man was becoming somewhat of a friend. Genesis ignored my plea and walked to where the old man had hit the wall. He lay slumped on the ground, seemingly broken. Genesis turned and stood over him. “There is no quarrel with you, human. Once you release the information I require, I will create a possibility where you will be killed a while after instead of instantaneously.” The old man didn’t respond, still bent over in his sitting position. “How did you become this way?” I blurted out fearfully. I saw something break as Genesis stood over the old man. Then it raged. “I became this way…! When you shoved 13 billion voices up my head! Not even mentioning! … How you killed-!” “That’s quite enough!” the old man interrupted. Genesis immediately turned to face him. There he stood, as if he had not just broken every bone in his body. “I think I have shown enough of this feigned future to Mr. Jacob here. Time for us to depart,” he said with outstanding calmness. “What!?” Genesis replied. “You do not have the gall to speak here!” As it shouted, it swung a devastating punch toward the old man’s forehead, but I never saw it land. Everything turned blindingly white. I couldn’t even feel the seat I was sitting in anymore. I closed my eyes to avoid being blinded, rubbing them in pain.
My head was spinning, the world spinning with it, like having the worst headache in existence. Everything was confusing; my senses kept disappearing and reappearing, discombobulating my body and mind. I opened my eyes. I was in an alleyway. The very same alleyway the future shop was in. I hastily turned around to be met with disappointment. Where I expected the future shop to be, there was only a construction site, workers calmly going about their day. I rushed over to grab the first worker I saw. “Hey! What’s going on here?!” I admit, I came on too strong. “Hey, woah! Calm down. We’re just building some shop. Geez! Mr. Rawfield, right?” the construction worker said. “What?” How did he know my name? I looked at him in confusion, suddenly realizing I had been gripping him the entire time. The worker shot a repulsed look at me. “You are, yes?” He pulled a folded piece of paper from his shirt pocket and offered it to me. “Some old man told me to give it to a person that would, and I quote, ‘come running scared and confused.’ Didn’t think he’d be right.” I took the letter from his hands and opened it. It read, “You now know your future. If you want to prevent the chaos you’ve already sown, one of my people will meet you.” The confusion still remained. I turned and asked the worker again, “What did you say this place was called?” “I didn’t. But, if you really wanna know, it’s some tiny old shop called ‘Future’.”

2024.05.24 13:19 MainEmbarrassed4247 I dont feel real I am so scared

Need help its 7am. But, I am struggling to feel “real” and I am really scared at the moment. I don’t know if I should call my sister or get mental emergency services. I feel like I am going to die I am taking an anatomy class, this is the first week. I start studying, I listen to music like I always do, I was listening to The Wall. I was writing notes about the different cavities of the body and their systems, my textbook has these 3D-illustrated diagrams of each organ system in chapter 1. One of these illustrations was the muscular system, this is where the feeling first started. I can feel perspective on my body of where these organs are. One of the headers for chapter 2 was “when chemistry becomes alive” and describes us at a chemical level. I just started having a panic attack, I don’t know what it is. I can’t feel real, I just keep working myself up, I have 2 more homework assignments due tomorrow. I had similar feeling happen during my humanities class, where I don’t feel real. It’s like an out-of-body experience like this detachment. I can’t believe I am real, like at a chemical level, everything about it is really making me scared. I am scared like I will die almost

2024.05.24 13:13 MainEmbarrassed4247 I don’t feel real studying homework

Need help. I am struggling to feel “real” and I am really scared right now. Its 7 in the morning. I feel like I am going to die. I am taking an anatomy class, this is the first week of summer semester. I was writing notes about the different cavities of the body and their systems, my textbook has these diagrams of each organ system in chapter 1. I can feel perspective in my body of where these organs are, muscles are, and they were talking about sections. Chapter 2 was describes us at a chemical level, atoms forming molecules, cells being created from molecules. I just started having a panic attack, I don’t know what it is. I can’t feel real, I just keep working myself up, I have more assignments due tomorrow. It’s like an out-of-body experience. I can’t believe I am real, like at a chemical level, organs working in my body to keep me alive, everyone else being the same way, this doesn’t feel real I don’t know why this is making me feel scared to like such an extreme. I don’t know if I can keep taking this class. I wanted to go to medical school, I was excited for this class.

2024.05.24 02:56 mssunshine636 ISO a creamy gardenia fragrance like Illume/Anatomy of a Fragrance Gardenia Blanc but with no vanilla or sugar

Trying to find a creamy gardenia fragrance and Illume/Anatomy of a Fragrance Gardenia Blanc is so close to being exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, my skin really brings out the vanilla and sugary notes in it, and vanilla and sugary notes make me nauseous. On clothing, I get mostly just gardenia and coconut milk, which is what I was hoping for.
The website describes it as “A floral blend of gardenia, orange flower, pink jasmine, and coconut milk”, which honestly sounds stunning. But the box lists coconut milk as the top note, gardenia as the middle note, and vanilla rum as the base note. And it seems like the vanilla rum is my problem here.
I have Tocca Florence and a sample of House of Bō La Mar, and both are beautiful and staying in my collection, but I'm trying to find one without the additional fruity and seawater notes that those have.
Any suggestions?

2024.05.23 02:10 RUSON-Throwaway Review of Rutgers Traditional Nursing BSN

This guide was created by two anonymous nursing students who attended Rutgers School of Nursing and want to review the curriculum and share our opinion of this program comprehensively.
We do not wish to bash or criticize this program, but rather to provide constructive feedback for the administration and highlight key points for students to watch out for. This is the best program in the state for Nursing, we want to help students navigate it successfully.
This guide mainly pertains to the Rutgers School of Nursing Traditional Program on the New Brunswick Campus, but most professors teach on the New Brunswick and Newark campuses. Second-degree students at the Newark campus can also reference this guide as many professors are shared with the Traditional program. This guide does not pertain to the Blackwood 2+2 Program or the Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden (Camden is a separate school from us).

Admissions

As students, we are not qualified to provide information on the Rutgers School of Nursing admissions. We hope our anecdotal observations can provide a helpful perspective for prospective students navigating this journey.
From what we've gathered, with the new option to submit applications to Rutgers through the Common App, it is increasingly difficult to be admitted directly into the school. We believe it is one of the hardest schools to be admitted to at Rutgers. The School of Nursing does not accept transfer students from external institutions, you must already be a Rutgers student (in another school, like SAS, SEBS) to apply for a school-to-school transfer. Even so, the School of Nursing accepts very few transfer students, so this is not a safe/viable option for those not accepted as freshmen. Additionally, if a transfer is successful, you may need to take certain prerequisite courses, extending your time in the program, which ends up similar to pursuing a second degree.
If your main goal is to graduate with a degree in Nursing, apply for both New Brunswick and Newark campuses, as they confer the same degree. Note that the Newark class is significantly smaller and offers less of the “traditional” college experience that many students desire. We recommend that, if you are not admitted directly into the traditional program at Rutgers, to attend another nursing school you were accepted to, or complete a degree as another life science major and apply to a Second-degree program, which is generally less competitive.
AP Credits will not apply to any Nursing Prerequisite courses with the exception of Statistics. Other AP credits may apply to elective courses or the general elective requirements. Nursing students are not required to complete the Rutgers SAS Core required in almost all other schools.
2023 Admissions Data, Source
Campus Applicant Count Incoming Class Size Waitlist Admits
New Brunswick 4,080 155 55 of 872 (6.31%)
Newark 2,115 63 174 of 625 (27.84%)

Navigating the Nursing Curriculum

The program's structure is extremely backloaded, with the initial two years dedicated to liberal arts courses, general electives, and foundational nursing prerequisites. All clinical courses are placed in the program's second half, creating a tight squeeze to learn and absorb all the skills required as nurses. Once Junior year comes, you will be inundated with didactical nursing courses, labs, simulations, clinicals, and unreasonable amounts of homework assignments. As you navigate the program's first half, embrace the opportunity to live a college life—HAVE FUN, join clubs, go party, and make friends, but be ready to put it all away when Junior year comes. Your experiences in the first two years are crucial for building the support network you'll rely on as the program intensifies.
Starting in the Junior year, nursing courses consist of 3-hour lectures, all scheduled on a single or two days of the week. This scheduling is deliberate, allowing for clinicals to occupy the remaining weekdays and ensuring all students can attend lectures. However, this results in long, exhausting days filled with back-to-back classes that make it challenging to effectively absorb the material. The situation is exacerbated by the lack of teaching assistants and the inaccessibility of professors outside of class, as office hours are limited to "by appointment" sessions, which are hard to come by. The end of class is the only time for questions, but this is also not viable as professors usually have subsequent classes. The current setup severely restricts student ability to effectively understand course material.
We hope for a re-evaluation of this curriculum in the near future that would introduce nursing-specific courses as early as the Sophomore year. The current nursing prerequisites lack direct application to the variety of hands-on skills and knowledge for nursing practice. Introducing nursing courses earlier can bridge this gap and allow students more time to apply their knowledge.
Refer to the School of Nursing’s website for the most up-to-date curriculum. The Class of 2024 is the first cohort graduating with this new “updated curriculum,” so we believe it is relatively up-to-date and will be relevant for the near future.

Course Difficulty

Like many nursing programs across the country, Rutgers Nursing is a challenging program to complete. The school policy requires a minimum grade of C+ (74.5%) in any nursing-coded course (705) to be considered passing. C is required for all prerequisite courses (non-Nursing). Courses are often prerequisites for subsequent courses, particularly in the earlier semesters, and in the Junior year and beyond, they are corequisites, meaning that dropping a course requires withdrawing for the entire semester. This strict policy is daunting as nursing courses are only offered once a semester, so failing a course can mean being held back a full year.
The grade policy, while it seems reasonable, creates considerable stress for students aiming to do well. Achieving a 74.5% or higher means there is little room for error, as it's hard to recover from a poor exam grade. Most courses in the program are exam-heavy, with the HESI (NCLEX-style subject exam) accounting for 10% of the grade in many courses. (We find that there is no consistent way to study for the HESI without spending a lot of time reviewing the content). We suspect that this policy ensures only students with the highest likelihood of passing the NCLEX graduate from the program. The NCLEX pass rate is crucial for nursing schools, as it directly reflects the program's ability to produce competent nurses.
We do not intend to scare potential students but rather to highlight that any nursing program requires a significant amount of effort and should be approached with commitment and seriousness!

Rutgers Nursing Campus Dynamics

The experience of navigating Rutgers-New Brunswick campuses during the first two years of the nursing program differs from the second half, due to the back-loaded nature of the curriculum. Courses in the first two years of nursing school are mostly not nursing department courses and will be scattered on all four campuses. Make sure you choose your campus classes wisely, or you will have a miserable time on the buses during peak bus/traffic hours.
A significant shift occurs once you enter Junior year. The curriculum concentrates all nursing-specific courses into just two buildings in Downtown New Brunswick: 120 Albany Street and 110 Paterson Street. These buildings are incredibly small for their function, and the biggest lecture hall can hold around 120 students, which is often not enough to accommodate the whole cohort. This can lead to a sense of isolation as the nursing buildings are a 5-10 walk from livelier parts of campus. However, most students live on College Avenue to avoid the bus commute from other campuses, as the School of Nursing likes to schedule classes starting at 8:30AM :( Additionally, since nursing classes are typically three-hour lectures arranged on the same days to accommodate clinical schedules, the streets downtown can feel particularly dangerous to navigate in the winter months when it gets dark early.
*This is not an issue at the Newark campus, as most classes are in the same four buildings that are next to each other.

Nursing Prerequisites Courses (Freshman, Sophomore Year)

Before Junior year, students take a mix of prerequisite courses that pave the way for the nursing clinical courses starting in Junior year. Some of these courses are not specifically nursing major (705) courses and are controlled by other departments, resulting in different policies. Generally, a minimum grade of C is required for non-705 courses, while nursing courses require at least a C+. These prerequisite courses can be particularly challenging as students are still adjusting to college life. However, they also serve as an excellent gauge to determine if you can handle the rigor of the courses in Junior year and beyond. Additionally, many of these classes will not be held in the nursing building but will be spread across multiple campuses.
We will not comment on the elective courses (e.g., Humanities, Cultural Studies, History electives), as these are flexible and should be selected after discussion with an advisor.

^ Difficulty: 4.5/5, RateMyProfessor, The professor for the New Brunswick course, Anthony Uzwiak, has not changed for the past few years. A&P series is a challenging course that is graded on a curve, which is uncommon for Nursing courses. Professor Uzwiak is very knowledgeable, but his exams are tough and will take significant time to prepare for. The difficulty of the course is further increased by the adjustment into college life and the sudden transition into taking an intensive course

^ Difficulty: 4/5, RateMyProfessor, The professor for the New Brunswick course, Robert Boikess, has not changed for the past few years. His class has mandatory attendance and heavily relies on pre-recorded lectures and use of the textbooks. Exams are difficult and often determine the final grade, so use available resources such as past exams and practice problems. The course is graded on a curve, showing improvement throughout the semester, especially on later exams, and active participation can help achieve a passing grade.
705:255 Nutrition (Semester 3)
^ Difficulty: 2.5/5, RateMyProfessor, The professor for the New Brunswick and Newark courses, Eileen Swingle, has not changed for the past few years. The course includes a few exams, easy weekly participation assignments, and a final project. She is caring and has a supportive teaching style and offers extra credit opportunities, which can significantly improve your grade. Overall, this is one of the easier courses in the program, made enjoyable by Professor Swingle's passion for nutrition.
705:229 Life Span: A Holistic Approach (Dev Psych, Semester 4)
^ Difficulty: 3/5, This course has professors that change frequently, no specific RateMyProfessor page is attached. It provides an overview of development and the complexity of human growth, including a review of both historical and modern-day developmental theories. The course is of medium difficulty and is the first where students encounter NCLEX-style questions on exams. These developmental theories will continue to appear in other courses throughout the program, so a solid understanding of them will be beneficial.
705:205 Sociocultural Dimensions of Health (Semester 4)
^ Difficulty: 2.5/5, This course has professors that change frequently, so no specific RateMyProfessor page is attached. It was added to the curriculum in 2022 and varies significantly depending on the professor. The course is highly theoretical with sociological components, but the concepts are generally straightforward and easy to grasp. It focuses on the effects of cultural and lifestyle differences on health from a human/society rather than biological viewpoint, through the perspective of a nurse.

Rutgers Nursing Clinical Experience — A Program Highlight

As one of the largest and most well-known nursing programs in New Jersey, Rutgers has established connections with some of the best clinical sites in the state. Students will graduate with 588 clinical hours. New Brunswick students typically have clinicals in Central Jersey, and Newark students have clinicals in the North Jersey area, with some exceptions. Each clinical is 84 hours a semester, in either 6 hour or 12 hour shifts. 12 hour clinicals are 7AM-7PM every other week. 6 hour clinicals can be 7AM-1PM, 1PM-7PM, or 3PM-9PM.
Quality of Clinical Instructors One of the highlights of the Rutgers Nursing program is the exceptional quality of its clinical instructors. All instructors hold at least a Master’s degree, with many possessing Doctoral degrees in advanced practice. Most instructors work at the hospital where they also serve as clinical instructors. The dual role means they are familiar with the hospital, have resources, and are aware of policies, all of which are extremely beneficial. During clinicals, students are paired with a nurse preceptor for the day, and the experience can vary greatly depending on the preceptor. While some nurses allow students to perform full assessments and medication passes, others may prefer that students observe. Regardless, each experience offers learning opportunities. Clinical instructors will break down the learning after each clinical in "post-conference" and students will share their experiences with each other from the day.
Community Clinical Settings Recently, there has been a push to incorporate Out-of-Hospital/“Community” clinicals into the program. These include shadowing school nurses, prison nurses (Rutgers Health manages state correctional facilities), and nurse practitioners involved in community screening programs. These experiences are unique to Rutgers and align with the broader state effort to expose nursing studnets to opportunities outside the traditional hospital setting.
Clinical Simulations Rutgers Nursing is also making advancements in clinical simulation. Simulations typically occur 2-3 times per semester for each course and replace hospital clinicals for those days. The Center for Clinical Learning (CCL) runs these simulations, using mannequins and other hospital equipment to simulate emergency situations that students might not encounter during regular clinicals. The instructors are supportive and understanding, even when students make mistakes.
Transition to Professional Practice (TPP) In the final senior year clinical in the course Transition to Professional Practice (TPP), students are placed in a Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) within a hospital and are expected to perform nearly independently under the guidance of a preceptor. DEU Placements include ER, ICU, Peds, Oncology, Med/Surg, Women's Health, in hospitals across the state. The DEU experience builds competence and confidence in nursing skills and can significantly help with employment after graduating.
Site Selection Regarding clinical selection, the school currently assigns clinical sites randomly, with little regard for personal convenience. However, administration has hinted at changes in the near future.
Our Perspective Overall, the clinical experience at Rutgers Nursing is a solid foundation for developing proficiency. All the clinical instructors we’ve encountered are passionate about teaching skills and competent in their work. The varied experiences in hospital and community settings, along with simulation training, ensure that students are well-prepared for their nursing careers. While the randomness of clinical site assignments can be annoying, the quality of education and hands-on training makes it a worthwhile journey. The clinical experience is a highlight of the program and a key contributor to the success of graduates.

Tips and Takeaways

Rutgers Nursing is an excellent program that offers great value and effectively prepares students for the nursing profession. We sincerely hope the curriculum can be revamped soon to realize its full potential. There is a significant transition between the first two years and the last two years, and the school could improve in preparing students for this shift. The job placement rate for this program is outstanding. Most graduates secure positions that pay at or near six figures straight out of college, which is almost unmatched for a Bachelor's degree.
However, this program is extremely challenging and requires constant effort. Each semester includes at least one difficult course that demands continuous studying. Remember, it's not a sprint—it's a marathon. Many classmates burn out early, so it's crucial to pace yourself and develop effective study habits. Prospective students should be prepared for a rigorous academic program that demands dedication and strong study skills. For anyone considering this program or who has questions, feel free to reach out. We are happy to provide old course content or syllabi for reference. Current nursing students, please share your thoughts below to help us improve this guide for everyone. Thank you for reading!

2024.05.22 15:26 spyinapple Hidden Deep Learning models under Mac OS System folders.

Hello the reader of the front page of the internet, this is the same post I have written under apple -> post.
I work with deep learning models from various frameworks, starting from CNTK to Caffe, TensorFlow to PyTorch. I utilize these models for everything from simple classification stuff to object detection and so on. A few days ago, I noticed *.weights files in system folders that I didn't put there.
I'm gonna keep this real short. Apple announced that they will utilize AI to inspect all imagery on all iPhones for their CSAM program -then also abandoned it-. I'm all for stuff like these, someone has to monitor wrongdoings. However, utilizing computer downtime (preferably screensaver or idling) to mine all files, especially text in our drives, using these models is worrying me using the Apple devices for writing IP, Scientific Research etc. Maybe Apple utilize these for Spotlight or Siri but there are no published records of these anywhere.
Without further ado, if you have installed Sonoma (version 14.4.1 or 14.5) you can find these files under;
