2024.05.18 17:59 S0ng81rd Part 23

My Dad is bringing up a very important word,
"No"
Actually, I think that was his favorite word.
I had a great habit of using it when I was under his roof. What he said is usually what happens first. He was the head of the house and the leader of his own reality. When he was intoxicated or not, what he saw and thought in his mind came to life, even when it never took place in real time.
Why did I give him so much respect when he clearly was showing me toxicity in our relationship at home?
He pretended to be a person of high stature when we are in public. No one would have guessed his bad habits with substances at home and the way he acted behind closed doors. When I reached out for emotional support at school or church, I was mostly shunned by anyone that listened to my story. They taught me that my feelings were wrong and asking for help gets me in trouble. When I told my mom anything, she was busy at work and came home tired. She trusted everything my father would tell her and I got in trouble for speaking out for his behavior. I was kept at home and if anything that could get me out of the house was already planned to be declined if I asked to do anything.
It was hard to please anyone at this point.
I kept my room spotless and vacuumed everyday, just so my dad couldn't say no and tell me to clean my room if I had a friend standing next to me wanting to hang out.
I had one friend in my life that saw my father for who he really is and he scared her pretty bad. He chased me to her car when I was trying to leave my house, he was on oxy at the time. My friend hesitated and kept the car in the driveway and told me to go do what he said. I wanted her to drive as fast as she could away from him, because he took the battery out of my car and I couldn't leave to be with Suz.
Well, after that incident, I lost my friend. She told her parents what happened and she broke all contact with me and stopped talking to me at church. Rumors went around and her mom I sang with on stage started to be disrespectful towards me.
I learned a valuable lesson that day....
When you feel safe enough to speak out and let someone see your true self, you scare people away.
When I trusted someone, I was abandoned when they saw my life for what it is.
The truth was hard to swallow and I had to stay around my father regardless of trying to find help in some form of way I felt heard. I tried to be emancipated, I went to church and sought out resources, I researched about how to prevent suicidal tendencies, I was speaking to a child psychologist. I was working on being more respectful towards my parents, but when my dad got high and made up stories to be angry and attack me. I had no way to protect myself and prove that it was just my father being an addict going through a psychotic episode.
This is why the Lord forced me into psychology.
I didn't want anything to do with it! (Working in a psych ward.... It sucked.)
Suz was the first person to really allow me to learn how to understand it with her version of explaining reality. She is a psychic medium. A very good one! She was very outspoken, rude and funny.... I can take the hard criticism. Nothing amounted to the trauma my father already caused me to feel. I survived high school band.... My director was exactly like my father and I was verbally abused at school by certain individuals.
I kept it all to myself and I planned very strategically my way to "heaven". I kept a journal on purpose for someone to find later. I wrote about everything I was feeling and how I was being treated, my poems, other interesting facts about spirituality, death and dying.
Suz taught me how to have a "book of shadows"..... Well, she is a witch..... It shouldn't be scary when I say that, she was a very proud "light witch". She only worked for the good of humanity. Christianity shuns such practices, but it really is part of the culture before religion became a thing. She taught me so many things that my Dad made me swear I would never get involved in.....
My Dad went into psychology after he decided he wasn't going to be a pastor. His past marriage was a major roadblock for him that he lost faith in God and didn't feel it was right for him to lie on stage to other believers when he wasn't being honest about his own walk in faith anymore.
A divorce would literally kill my soul. I can't imagine what betrayal feels like until you promise your life in vows to someone and it doesn't work out....My Dad made sure to show me that marriage is a special connection and I had to be very cautious who I accept as my spouse. I never forgotten how important it was for him to see me with the right man, but he was so overprotective, he never allowed me to learn how to date or even go to a school dance.
I blame the drugs for interfering in our relationship as a family. My Father was a very smart man, until he took a pill, shot up, or drink... My dad worked in anesthesia, he knew how to mix his own concoction and by pass the system to get his fix. He was forced to retire don't worry, but his knowledge to get drugs was phenomenal all that he knew about medicine.
It really sucked that he knew psychology and ways to manipulate people to get what he wanted. He was a very skilled hypnotherapist on top of that. My family is the result of a head narcissist raising more products of himself.
If you see my family now, we are estranged for good reasons, but they still hurt me personally. I really tried to keep us together after my father passed away, but the rest of my family chose to ignore my advances to keep in contact. I'm not even invited to the family reunions.
It's okay, because we have a lot of family history of incest and "S.A." and I understand why we are not invited.... I know a lot of things about our family after my father passed away. I know why he turned to be a pastor and then went in psychology to help himself and others, but then he lost his way and turned to drugs to mask his pain. The enemy stepped in and my Dad gave into his weaknesses..... He tried and he fought hard. Even when he attacked me my whole life. I still sat there and listened to him and I was forced to listen and not leave the room, but then God showed me to talk back to my Dad.....
So, I started to read more about the Bible and relate to him.
That's why I went to church...
I went to church 4 times a week to get away from the house, but to also just understand why I want to end my life and know that I would go to heaven if I actually tried it.....I was worried about my Mom and how my actions would affect her, she was a big reason why I stalled my plans and then my Dad had this wise idea to get me to work at a mortuary. Told me to walk into one and ask for a job.
Crazy how I jump topics all of a sudden, but this is how my Dad and I got along with each other. Weird and comical. lol
If it wasn't about music, it was about spirituality. I was into a lot of death related shows because I was suicidal. If you remember any of these, they came out around the time I was in high school.
Six Feet Under
Dead Like Me
Dr. G Medical Examiner
1000 Ways to Die
Ghost hunters
Crime Scene Clean Up Crew shows.
I would walk in the dining room while he was chillin in his hospital bed. Watching Finding Big Foot.
"Hey DAD! check this out."
It was a nice distraction to his day. It brought up his own fears with common daily interactions because of my odd obsession with the topic of dying.
My father at this point in his cancer diagnosis, he was on something they call,
Palliative care.
My mom explained to me that it means he was going to die. Lovely how blunt my mother is, but that's how she said it without sugar coating it....
But it was in a way it would be under his terms. My father at this point died once while receiving radiation therapy. His heart stopped and was revived. When he woke up angry and violent towards at the medical team. He yelled at my mom that he was ready to "go". So, after that incident he got the right person to sign him up for his new journey to his death.
That was a weird way of telling you what palliative care is, but that's how I found out and understood that he had a "DNR" to his name after that incident. Sometimes he was in a hospice home for a few months to give us a break at home dealing with his drama.
My Dad was surrounded by death, so it made me really research death and dying very deeply. I was afraid for anyone to see the books I read because they were about taboo topics you shouldn't see a teenager obsessing over. Death and dying, crossing over, letting go of loved ones, suicide survivors, decomposition of human remains, the death process, how a body is embalmed, what medical examiners while cutting open a corpse.
Then I got into the spiritual side of things that involve the devil and crossing over. How to avoid walking back towards hell when you are deceived by dark forces. How to fight your inner hell and not be trapped in that mindset when you are passing away.
I would have the craziest dreams after learning about these topics. But in a weird way, all I wanted to do was sleep to escape my reality. I would talk to my Dad about the stuff I found about those topics and it helped him be closer to me as a father. Something my little brother doesn't understand and ridiculed about me when he criticized my relationship with him. He had his own way to being with Dad, but my way, was with deeper meaning and serious topics. Stuff only Dad and I knew what that meant. It wasn't supposed to make sense to my mom or brother the special talks we had when he was in pain laying in bed.
I showed my Dad the other side to life....
I helped my Dad not be afraid to die, and do it with dignity and strength.
I helped my Dad understand that his addictions didn't ruin our connection as father and daughter and that I wanted to forgive him for his past before he died. He really appreciated my understanding that the drugs turned him into a different person, but inside of him, God was always there. My father told me, because of me, I allowed him to find love for God again and he was closer to his Mom because I showed him to not be afraid of my friend Suz.
That my friend wasn't evil and she taught me so much about angels and spirits, he was learning about them because I had the best mentor in the world. She helped me find my relationship with my Dad, that brought me to be closer to God and because I learned about God in a metaphysical way, I helped myself grow in my own understanding to where I wasn't going to end my life.
I found a reason to live even through the pain of watching the enemy run through my family and take away everyone and everything that means something to me.....
(I would like to post this, but I know it's not ready. I have so much to say and I know my story will help someone else not be afraid.)
I am still writing my story.
This is the book I was supposed to write about....
The one about death and dying.
Not about my background in psychology.
*That is a message for someone else. hint hint... That is your topic to write about. I hope you receive that message with understanding and go forth wisely. You asked me to remind you, so I am, quietly...
I am working with others in a way the Lord leads me.
It takes up my energy from writing and I have to prioritize what is more important. When it comes to someone's transition. I feel led to help someone cross over. I've done this since I was a child. No one taught me to understand how I do this. I also dream about meeting certain individuals and speak to them about life and death, God allows me to remember my dreams and I share them with the people it is about.
Most times, God will send people to talk to me and then I learn about them dying or having a terminal illness that is difficult to get through. That is where I am reminded of my life with my father and my jobs in the medical field and bring up all that I learned about death, dying, spirituality, religion, crossing over, eastern medicine, etc....
Then I become friends, or we have nice conversations that are very engaging and healing in general. I am later told that I have helped them in some way and they are happy to have met me. Then my dad shows up in my presence and shows me how I am doing what I am supposed to and to trust my gut feelings from now on. He promised me when he was alive, he was always going to be by my side and teach me about life.
Now I finally understand what he meant by that and I now that I know how to
"Listen with my HEART"
That is how he spoke to his mom before he crossed over. I taught him how and he was able to go deeper with it since his soul was ascending and leaving the physical body. The dream state plays a big part of crossing over and communicating with loved ones. That is where my gifts come into play. I am sensitive enough to feel him and learn his lessons that he encourages me to write it all down.
I'm not the writer I wish to become yet, but as long as it's getting out there for someone to find, that's all that matters.
Don't forget to realize that we are all dying. Don't allow your diagnosis or reality to have you feel stuck in misery until you die. Don't allow the pain and confusion to stop you from gaining understanding to the karma you're experiencing.Being a medium for me has been traumatizing, because I had to earn my way to understanding. I had to experience hell in order to seek solitude and want to create peace with my sanity and not let the forces around me cause me to go insane. I went "within" so I can heal my trauma and know what triggers me to thinking about the negative side to things.
That is all the enemy fighting with you spiritually.
When we die, we lose our vessel, not our spirit.
We are the spirit having the human experience.
This isn't forever.
Thank God for that!
Pain does end, but learn what the pain wants to teach you about life around you. You will help someone else with your story when you're meant to cross paths.
Everyone in your life is there to teach you something.
Are you ready for the lesson?
Are you ready to understand your lesson?
So, it's crazy how I end up writing these posts, but they are all for a reason that I don't understand right now, but I'm doing as I'm told.
I'm not afraid of death, I'm not afraid of anyone stalking me because I speak of life in a way no one else has, because this is my story.
I don't know why I wrote it this way before I got here.
My destiny, I mean.....
I know my purpose now and of all the things I pushed away in my life, God forced me to go back into it and learn more about myself. The things I didn't want to face and be reminded about my Dad.... I just want to live my life in peace. I didn't want to think about my past love, but I meet people that remind me of my life back home and that person in particular.....
So, it's all hitting at once. It's a slow process, my father has been gone for 11 years now. I'm getting the hang of it now...... Writing this isn't a race for me, the lessons are exciting to finally understand why I went through them, but again.... Time helps me explain things better when I see it in a different perspective. I couldn't have accomplished that goal until I went through the pain and worked on my character to change my outcomes to my problems. I had to change myself first.
I hope those that are part of this journey with me understand that I am only putting out there tools to help them succeed.
I'm not going out of my way to create another trauma bond or narcissistic injury towards anyone. I love them very much and I want them to work on themselves and gain abundance correctly, not with the use of black magic and occult practices.
That's another story for another day. Suz wants them to know that she was in my life to warn me about my lessons in my future, but I can't run from them. I am here to learn lessons and teach others how to learn theirs.
That's all this is about.
Life is a stage, how do you want to play it?
I choose to grow and allow myself to see the positive to where I feel the emotion of bliss, love, joy and acceptance of all things coexisting together.
I be back soon,
I hope you have a nice weekend.
<3,
Tina,

2024.05.18 17:00 Big_Win844 The Reality is Hitting Your Goals is Weirdly Simple (After You Apply These 3 Strategies)

It's Q2 and albeit 90% of people have given up on their goals.
The new year came with a bang: - You aimed high - Reached for the stars
But the reality of how much works it takes to reach your goals settle in.
You make yourself feel small, Cave into the excuses, And end up wishing you never created goals in the first place.
My goals so far for this year: 30 podcasts -> 73% accomplished 10,000 email subscribers -> 25% accomplished $1,000 days -> 2% accomplished (may need to pivot, idk)
Am I beating myself up over it?
Well, that's a conversation between me and me.
But there are three strategies I've implemented to take the pressure off, but stay focused towards my goals.
Quality > Quantity Having a long "goal list" is not a badge of honor.
And if you do have a laundry list of goals, I would challenge you to ask yourself if these are really "outcomes" you're striving towards, or "tasks" that just need to be done.
The point of goals is not to have more goals.
Goals are meant to give you direction.
Whether or not you accomplish them is a different topic.
People need direction in their life, if they don't have direction there's no motivation to move forward.
Goals = direction = motivation.
Forget the Timeline, Find The Joy I'd feel like shit everyday for not hitting X goals by Y date.
It would eat away at me: "WTF are you doing Tina?" "Why haven't you gotten there yet?" "X person already made Y dollars, they're clearly better than you"
Two things: - Keep your head down and fucking focus on yourself - Turn off the notifications, and unfollow everyone
This is all easier said than done.
But there is a real truth in "enjoying the journey vs. reaching your destination."
I've realized that when I focused less on the destination or timeline on when I hit X goal, I can allow myself to be surprised when I do reach my goals.
It also takes the pressure off.
Being in a high pressure situation is not the best for everyone, and it certainly isn't for me...be kind to yourself.
Your Habits = Your System I was chatting with my personal trainer. I was pissed off that I didn't lose X pounds this week. And then she said: "If you're pissed off, let go of the thing that makes you angry"
The thing that made me angry? Not losing X pounds.
Metrics are good to a point, but they can be toxic as fuck if you judge yourself too harshly when you don't meet them.
What works instead? Focus on the habits that get you to the goal, and let go of the metrics.
I've been building up my: - writing habits - protein intake - strength training
The results so far: - 12 emails/mo -> 5x'ed my revenue - Feel fuller -> no longer have my hangry moments - Leaned down -> my biceps have been poking out ha!
Reaching your goals doesn't need to be daunting.
These 3 strategies can help you take the pressure off and reach your goal sooner.

2024.05.18 06:46 SteelMoonSpur Does my ideal looter game exist somewhere?

Iā€™m looking for a PC multiplayer supported game that has very robust loot with infinite progression (not shorter run based like roguelites). Ideally not a First Person Shooter. Loot should be similar to the Fate series, where thereā€™s a constant chasing of the next big item, ideally with 6+ modifiers on exceptional items. Microtransactions should be minimal.
Deal breakers: Heavy PVP focus Release Date before 2014 Permadeath Focus on crafting of items instead of looting them MMO
Games Iā€™ve played or looked at already:
Gameplay is too slow
Loot is ā€œScavenge-yā€ and not rewarding enough
Closer to what Iā€™m looking for

2024.05.18 06:15 SwiggleMcDiggle Ryunosuke Naruhodo

Gonna freely spoil main series games up to AJ and the Chronicles Duology.
At this point in the rankdown, we're left with heavy hitters. Even the bit parts, the Caidins, the Menimemos, etc.- they all pull pretty crucial weight in bringing the often cacophonous story of DGS to life. (except olive green, but i don't have that cut in me right now). So now, it is time to kill our darlings.
Let's begin!

There Goes My Hero

Travis Touchdown: "Wait a sec. You want me to tie up all these loose ends? I don't think so." Henry: "You're the protagonist. I'm just a cool, handsome foil who happens to be your twin brother. Hate to say it, but it's your job." -No More Heroes
For all the good the medium has done us it's often hard to deny the mainstream appearance of the visual novel as something of an artistic ghetto (especially when directly compared to its non-visual counterpart). Even a reader who attributes no value at all to prose or literary theory can't deny that, for example, the prevalence of casual sexual violence in visual novels is at the very least a bad look. At risk of belaboring the point- this isn't a Japan thing, or at least not entirely. Visual novels specifically, with so much of their artisanal and traditional roots housed in good old 1990s ecchi and dojinsoft, have evolved let's call them "adaptational features" that linger even in the genre's gelded contemporaries. Even nonsexual, "serious" VNs like sci;adv still retain things like heroine routes and adapted reputation systems from the dating sims of yore.
Horny media in general has a protagonist problem. I'm not gonna go through the mechanics of it, but if even the neanderthals in animemes have figured it out, I'm comfortable taking it as a given. Let's be honest with ourselves, this trope extends far outside the explicitly pornographic. While SAO Kirito and John NGNL aren't literally faceless, their lack of distinct identity outside of the power fantasy they're designed to conjure is plain as day. This tendency to starve protagonists of distinguishing features so that a player can more easily see themselves in them is narrative poison, as far as I'm concerned. Joel and Ellie from the Last of Us are fifty times easier to put my shoes into than Yu Narukami or Byleth, because the former two are humans that interact dynamically to their surroundings in a tangibly compelling way and the latter two are factitious wooden planks that drain the intrigue and charisma from every scene they're heavily involved in.
All this to say, the term VN protagonist is not a compliment. And the term "VN protagonist" fits Ryunosuke to a T.
I'm going to write a pretty extended breakdown of this guy over the course of two pretty damn long games, but for the sake of a hypothetical uninformed reader, I want to make it explicit that for the vast majority of his time onscreen Ryunosuke's presence is an extremely functional one. Maybe this paragraph is the only one you need to read, because to keep it a buck fifty most of the stuff Ryunosuke does is, like, seeing zany stuff and going, "What the crap!?" or being in trouble and being like "Oh jeez, this is tough!" or articulating the logic the player has already figured out. If a quip needs to be said to reset the emotional tone of a scene, more often or not it's coming out of Ryunosuke's mouth. If the case wants to remind the player of an old clue, the writing team's first instinct is to have Ryunosuke think it to himself. When the game wants to instruct to you how it wants you to feel about a character, Ryunosuke will make some remark about how he feels. This stuff is the blood and bones of storytelling, but honestly Chronicles is so much more inelegant at exposition than most other games in the series and that often hurts Ryunosuke the most. Whereas a lot of Phoenix's dialogue simultaneously serves 2 or 3 purposes, basically everything his ancestor says is uncomfortably on the nose.
Ryunosuke is himself one of the duology's primary selling points, that being his nature as the genesis of the Wright dynasty. Even as a teenager I was kinda skeptical of this premise. I was satisfied with the fact that Wright derived his legacy from Mia Fey and Miles Edgeworth- two people who, by circumstance, came to defend him when he was at his most helpless. The fact that Phoenix was a living soyjak before the grace of his defenders elucidated him to the value of protecting the weak and awakened a burning desire for truth and justice within him was really powerful to me. But I was willing to trust the plan with Ryunosuke, and I was even excited to see how this theme would be iterated on in a different environment. So you can imagine my fucking surprise when Ryunosuke is tricked into defending himself in court and spontaneously realizes that yelling Objection feels uniquely right. The game even goes out of its way to describe this feeling as animalistic, to make it even more clear that this desire within Ryunosuke is part of his inbuilt biology instead of like related to anything sentimental or any bullshit like that.
I also found his presence and banter with other characters really limp. Phoenix and Maya are a classic-style straight man funny man duo, but the dynamic is layered and lived-in. It becomes evident that while Maya is legitimately eccentric she is poignantly aware of the levity her eclectic behavior provides to Phoenix's life, and it's her way (and an effective way at that) for protecting and caring for him and the found family they establish. Phoenix's relative seriousness isn't him being a hardass, but instead comes out of the neuroticism that keeps him rooted as a rookie defense attorney throughout the first three games, which is essential to his characterization as every part of the trilogy relies upon the assumption Phoenix is not yet a fully-formed defense attorney. Chronicles reverses this dynamic, placing Susato as the by-the-books straight man, and Ryunosuke as the weirdo in their interactions together. But what this often results in is the milquetoast facets of Ryunosuke's personality being hyperaccentuated, and the two leads don't really have any chemistry. Ryunosuke does play the straight man to Sholmes, Iris, and Gregson, but none of them have an interesting back and forth. In G1 the other character does something and Ryunosuke is like "wow, that's weird!" and in G2 the other character does something and Ryunosuke is like "wow, that's weird! gotta love it, though."
If there's one thing I've seen people heap praise onto Ryunosuke for it's his "emotional journey." I don't see it. I would absolutely love to ignore it to further facilitate my point, but seeing as this is the penultimate writeup I'll make for this rankdown, I suppose it's worth some due diligence.

The Tale of Ryunosuke Naruhodo

"Men who are trapped by the chains of ā€˜maybeā€™ will never reach their dreams." -Ancient Chinese Proverb
The first two cases of the duology are honestly some of the most bizarre storytelling in the entire series in terms of the protagonist's arc. Through an insanely convoluted set of coincidences that would make the Soseki cases balk, Ryunosuke Naruhodo has the dubious honor of being the only AA MC to accidentally become a defense attorney. That doesn't bother me by itself, but it's a frankly bizarre amount of effort to establish this specific relationship between Ryunosuke and the law by the beginning of G1-3. In short: Naruhodo has demonstrable talent with the law, but he's still a fish out of water, and he's largely doing it out of devotion to his past and present friends. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles takes about 10 hours to get to that point. Ace Attorney 1 gets there in less than fifteen minutes.
The rest of Ryunosuke's arc in the first game sidelines his devotion to Asogi to focus on how he learns to pursue the truth at any cost. Ryunosuke's first trial upon arriving in London is a tragedy, and it drives him to unceasingly chase the truth, even at the cost of his own immediate prestige and legal career. It might just be me, but this arc feels extremely unearned. Every single other protagonist in the series also doggedly pursues the truth. Perhaps more importantly, Ryunosuke never really personally struggles with finding the truth or the consequences of him doing so. He accepts blame in G1-5 for allowing injustice to happen in G1-3, but it's an empty gesture. There's just no way to read G1-3 in a way where Ryunosuke is complicit in injustice coming to pass. Like, what the hell was he supposed to do? Refuse to defend this guy because the vibes were off? The judge literally ends the trial prematurely in McGilded's favor as you stand there helplessly. Because of that, Ryunosuke accepting the blame for what happened two cases later reads a lot less like reconciling any sort of personal values and a lot more like he's just letting the system fuck him in order to save Gina. I guess he also reveals state secrets? But he just gets like a finger wagging at that lol gotta love London.
He doesn't really fare that much better in the second game either, treading water for the first few cases. Ryunosuke's exile presents a unique opportunity- to explore a declawed AA protagonist, to see how they navigate the world when they are not just separated but completely divorced from their beloved Lady Justice. The first game even opened the door for this by having a case without any trial segments and expanding the meaningful interactions that can happen during investigation. Naturally, G2 timeskips over this period straight into another case that Stronghart gives him.
G2-3 does feature what is probably Ryunosuke's most memorable moment in the driver's seat, when he chooses to go after Sithe even after he's already proven Harebrayne innocent. And I want to make it clear that this moment is absolutely phenomenal. The way the music, animation, and the puzzle-solving come together produces a moment with blinding white hot energy that makes my blood pump harder than maybe anything else in the damn game. But, again, for the purpose it plays in Ryunosuke's journey as an AA protagonist, it's pretty fucking disposable. AA has played around with the idea that there's more to finding the truth than just getting your client declared innocent since like, Turnabout Samurai day 3. And choosing to pursue Sithe isn't even Ryunosuke's idea- Sholmes has to have a mysterious moment of seriousness where he has to spell it out to Ryunosuke in advance.
A lot of ink has been spilled about how Susato essentially disappears as a character with agency after the sixth case out of ten, and that's true yeah lol. But I'd invite you to seriously consider how little Ryunosuke's decisions matter in the second game. There's just so much going on, so much to watch, so much to barely keep a lid on, that Ryunosuke ends up just standing where people tell him to stand for the length of the game. His relationship with Asogi, Sholmes, and Stronghart adds a lot of emotional weight to the final trials, but scarce little comes from what Ryunosuke actually does. Instead, it's that he happens to be there at all, vaguely doing lawyer things. Even in the final climactic sequences of the game, it often doesn't even feel like Stronghart is really fighting you, more often he's fighting Asogi, Van Zieks, or one of the other witnesses. And don't get me started on the very very end. For all that people argue Phoenix Wright takes the wind out of Apollo's sails in 4-4, at least Phoenix doesn't literally show up in the climax of the case, dance around, and personally deliver the final blow to villain.
Listen, it's not impossible to to weave a meaningful, even interesting story out of the shit that happens to Ryunosuke. But I keep finding myself wondering whether any of this shit actually has anything to do with Ryunosuke as a guy or just the inherent consequences of the circumstances he's found himself in. At all parts of Ryunosuke's arc, the writers wanted to have their cake and eat it too. The game expects you to believe that Ryunosuke has a near-divine aptitude for the law as he discovers something akin to a bloodlust for the truth in G1-1, and yet at the same time he's a reluctant entrant to the legal system who makes his decision to pursue the law in order to fulfill the legacy of a friend. Ryunosuke has to learn a vital lesson and accept blame for the truth being lost in the past in G1-5, and yet the game is too afraid of making him any rougher or less relatable to make him actually culpable of anything going wrong in the tragedy of G1-3. The game thematically positions him as the humble, foreign cure to the disease spreading in London, and yet at the same time it feels reluctant to give him any distinct value or trait that makes him successful at what he does.
Every part of Ryunosuke's journey is prescribed to him. Yujin tells him to raise his hand up in G1-1, he's forced to defend himself in G1-2, Asogi leaves behind the perfect spot for him to fill, and Stronghart assigns him to McGilded in G1-3. He's handed desperate, transparently innocent clients that are ingrained into his immediate social vicinity in G1-4, G1-5, and G2-2. In G2-3, he's handed Harebrayne's case by Stronghart, and he has his important decision dictated to him by Sholmes before the second day of trial. The finale of the game being to defend the edgelord prosecutor (who's really not so bad of a guy after all) does not do anything to dispel the feeling of going through the motions. And then he goes back to Japan.
Did he really gain anything in London? Did London really gain anything from him being there?

The End of a Hero

"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world." -Skibidi Toilet
The widespread response to Ryunosuke kinda... shocks me? Even given everything I've written, I don't think bro is like bottom 5, but I've seen people say that Ryunosuke is like one of the best characters in the game. And, like, what? I legitimately believe that Phoenix is one of the strongest characters in the OT, but Ryunosuke? Did I play the same game as everyone else?
His banter on occasion feels a little bit more lived in than Ryunosuke's, but for every remark he makes that expands the world, he'll make 3 more that recap obvious information and pad for time. He often feels like he collects points with the community simply by being around, but his presence never feels crucial. When the player is placed in Maya's sandals in 2-4, there's an extra layer of discomfort from being distanced from Phoenix's perspective that adds to Maya's anguish. When the player occupies Mia's perspective in T&T, it adds a layer of uncanniness to the proceedings that finally reaches its cartharsis in the tragic end of 3-4. But it never feels unnatural to leave Ryunosuke's perspective to do a filler case as Susato or do a set piece as Sholmes and Mikotoba. Ryunosuke's presence is never missed.
At the end of the day, I don't need a protagonist to be deep. The phrase "simple but effective" is perhaps considered blasphemy around here but the enduring power of Indiana Jones and Rocky Balboa is not lost on me. But I do need a protagonist to be something. What did they really do with Ryunosuke? He was sold as a rebirth. When I first played the games, I felt he was a rehash. Having matured in my love for the franchise, he feels like a regression.
There's a cruel, brutal pragmatist in me that has been playing the Devil's Advocate in my head the entire time I've been writing this cut. While this whole rankdown business is about separating characters and evaluating them purely as individuals, no individual part of a story exists exists without context. At the end of the day, the goal of writing a character isn't necessarily to make them the intrinsically "best" character possible, but instead to elevate and make the best possible contribution to the story they're a part of. It's an unsexy thought for sure, but there's wisdom in it. If you caught me on vacation with a beer in my hand, you might even get me to admit the following- in a story that's more about a place than it is about any one person, perhaps the most functional protagonist is one that can most efficiently witness the environment around them. After all, being an avatar for the player is perhaps the single most important role for a video game protagonist, and so it's okay for a hero to exist largely as a focal lens.
And perhaps that's true. But I'm not gonna be putting them on any of my top 10 lists.

This story is one of the creepiest true stories I've ever heard, it's a story that makes you wonder about what people's true intentions really are. Most of us have at least one person in our lives that we feel we can trust with anything and everything, but no matter how much you trust somebody, you never really know what's actually going on inside their head, do the words they tell you really match the thoughts that they're having behind them. No matter how much you trust somebody, you never really know what they might be thinking, or what they might be doing in their spare time.
Our story today starts off in December of 1986, in a small town in Massachusetts.
Frank Bowen lived together with his two young daughters, Tina(15), and Karen(9).
Recently they had just lost their mother to cancer, and it was a very hard time for everybody.
To make matters worse the household was now only under one income, so Frank started to work more and more hours just to make sure they could still get by.
Because of this, he began leaving the girls home alone more often than usual.
One evening, while Frank was working, Tina and Karen would be at home continuing to find ways to cope with the loss of their mother.
That night they attempted to find further closure, their way of doing this was by bringing out a Ouija Board and conducting a seance, hoping that in doing so they would be able to speak with their mother one last time.
They tried for many hours, but sadly nothing was happening, the idea seemed like it was turning into a dead end.
Eventually, feeling tired, emotionally drained, and hopeless, they decided to give up and head to their bedrooms to get some rest.
Some hours would pass until the 2 girls would be woken up by a startling sound.
They sat upright, listening closely... It sounded like a quiet tapping sound, but where was it coming from?
Staying quiet and listening even closer, they waited, trying to figure out what was happening.
They couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was coming from, but it sounded like it was coming from inside the walls... and as they listened the knocking would only grow louder.
Both of them came to the realization that the seance must have actually worked, they thought to themselves their mother must have actually heard them.
When their father Frank would later come home they would tell him all about the experience.
He didn't believe them and brushed it off entirely, the intense stress from their loss must have been taking it's toll, playing mean tricks on their imaginations in an attempt to find peace.
Concerned he told his daughters that if this were to continue, he would be taking them all for counselling.
He wished for his daughter's peace of mind, it was all too much, and he wished for their family's troubles just to discontinue... Unfortunately, continue it did.
Night after night, again and again the girls would be awoken by the same unnerving knocking sounds that they heard before. Each time they would scream for their father, but every single time he would arrive the sounds would come to a halt. He opened the door, he listened... Silence was all that he could hear. His concern for them would only increase.
Over the next few weeks, things would only seem to escalate as the events they experienced became stranger and stranger. The knocking became more consistent, it was to the point that it was ruining the girls sleep, it was driving them insane... Though, that wasn't the only thing that was happening.
Their possessions began to... disappear... somehow... misplace themselves.
Items that they were certain were in different places the day prior, would be found thrown across the floor or moved to a different location. They would come home to find furniture moved to the other side of the room, seemingly all on it's own.
They were all experiencing the same thing together, but their father Frank wasn't buying it.
His daughters insisted that they had nothing to do with it and that it must be a ghost, but he couldn't get himself to believe such a ridiculous idea.
He truly believed his daughters were under such emotional distress, that they must be the culprits for all of this.
The knocking would continue into the new year, but on one January evening, something was different.
It didn't sound like the knocking was coming from the walls this time... it sounded like it was coming from the basement.
Terrified but curious, they grabbed a kitchen knife and shakily made their way down to the depths of their home. When they got to the bottom, the noise had ceased. They froze as they saw something that they knew wasn't supposed to be there.
On the basement wall, written in dark red, was a message they wished they never saw: "I'm in your room. Come and find me".
Horrified they ran out of the house as quickly as possible, making their way to their neighbors to tell them what happened.
When their father arrived they explained to him what happened, but again he just thought that they were doing this as a failed way of coping, the stress manipulating their minds into doing crazy things.
Following this he would send them for counselling, but things only continue to get worse.
Many weeks later the girls would hear even more knocking... this time the sound emanating from behind Tina's bedroom wall. Upon entering Tina's room they were met with another horribly red message sprawled across the walls: "I'm back. Find me if you can".
Fearful for their lives they went over to a neighbor's house once more, calling their father to come home.
When he got home this time he was furious, still blaming his daughters for all of this he stormed inside to prove that there was nobody there.
When he got inside, more had happened inside the house than the girls had originally explained.
He started to understand that something else was going on, somebody else must have been in here.
Frank entered Tina's room by himself, and when he did there was an extra message painted across the walls: "Marry me".
He stared at the wall in disbelief as his mind raced, trying to piece together what was happening.
That's when he noticed something... On the other side of the room, a figure stood dressed in the clothing of his now deceased wife. Blonde hair hung down across the figure's shoulders, draping down to the hatchet that was held in it's hand.
Although that part of the story doesn't end there, we're going to need to go back to a time before the knocking began, the family would receive a phone call from a boy named Danny.
Danny would say that he got their number from a friend that went to the same school as them.
The picture Danny would paint of himself was that of a blonde, attractive, fit, and smart boy that lived in the area. It was innocent enough and no alarm bells were raised, after a few phone calls Tina and Danny began to grow closer with each other. He seemed like a nice guy, so one night, they organized for a date.
The day for the date came by and Danny arrived at Tina's doorstep, she excitedly opened the door to greet him but quickly stopped in her tracks. Danny was nothing like he explained...
He wasn't attractive at all, his hair wasn't blonde, it was dark and greasy, and his appearance just looked disorganized. She decided to forget about it and they went out for a bit anyway. It only lasted a little over an hour before she got herself out of there.
During their date the passing of her mother was brought up, and Danny seemed to take an unnaturally high interest in the subject.
Tina would later say that it was like Danny was obsessed with the passing of her mother, questioning her often about how much she had suffered when it happened.
Having a bad feeling about this, naturally Tina didn't go on another date with Danny, she wouldn't pick up another call from him, and that was that... Or so she thought...
Danny was a very psychologically disturbed individual... He had a very bad upbringing. He suffered an extremely traumatic childhood which warped his mind to an unrepairable state at an early age. His father would often abuse him, physically, emotionally, and sexually. He struggled to make friends, he struggled with his grades, and he didn't have proper habits for hygiene. Most people at school thought he was creepy and weird. Concerned with his obviously abnormal behavior, school officials referred him to a psychiatrist... This same psychiatrist would sexually abuse Danny also, for an entire year.
Seemingly everybody he trusted betrayed him.
He turned to crime, and he began spending his evenings breaking into people's homes and stealing from them.
By 15 his behavior got worse, and he wouldn't just break in and steal things anymore, now he would move things around and leave things behind... Misplace things, make people wonder if somebody had been in their house.
He was conducting a psychological game that he enjoyed, he was doing it just to mess with people, but subtly, not so obvious that you were 100% sure of yourself, purposely in a way that he knew you would be questioning yourself, where the only thing you were left with was confusion and uncertainty.
By the age of 17 one of the homes he had broken into belonged to friends of Tina's family... It's speculated that this is how he obtained her phone number to begin with.
Coming back to where left Frank, he's in Tina's room, he just saw a bloody message painted across the walls saying "Marry Me", and on the other side of the room, a figure stood dressed in the clothing of his now deceased wife. Blonde hair hung down across the figure's shoulders, draping down to the hatchet that was held in it's hand.
The figure lunged at him, struggling with him for a few seconds until eventually pushing past him, somehow leaving him unharmed. As Frank turned to lay eyes on his attacker, they were nowhere to be seen... It was as if they had just disappeared into nothingness.
Frank ran to the neighbors as fast as he could and the police were called to the scene, but when they arrived they couldn't find anybody else in the house.
Frank was horrified, he didn't know what to do. For the time being they stayed with relatives while Frank figured out what to do next. 2 days later he would come back to the home to grab a few things, as he arrived, before he got out of the vehicle he noticed the same figure that attacked him was standing in view of the window. Frank began to panic as he called the police once again.
What happened next even scared the officers.
This is a quote from one of the officers that arrived on scene:
"When I opened the door, on the right-hand wall, I saw a knife sticking out of the wall. And I see it's through a picture - a family picture - written on it was 'I'M STILL HERE. COME FIND ME.' Now the hair goes up on the back of my head. On another wall, I saw another picture saying 'I'M GOING TO KILL YOU ALL' with a knife through it." - Officer Bezanson
They searched the house more thoroughly this time. Behind the washer and dryer, they found a piece of wood that was hiding a crawl space that led through the entire house.
Speaking about the state of Danny and Tina. Danny didn't like how his calls were being ignored.
When he was rejected, he broke into her house, happened to stumble across the crawlspace, and for about a month he would torment them while lingering in the walls of their home.
He would knock and tap on the walls, he would listen to them talk, he created peepholes in all of the rooms so he could watch them whenever he wanted. Those red messages? He was using ketchup to make it look like blood just so he'd get inside their heads. That figure that charged at Frank wearing his deceased wife's clothes? That was Danny, he dressed himself up, put makeup on and a blonde wig, attempting to look like their mother. Whether he was doing that to actually convince the children that he was their mother's spirit, or if he was just trying to scare them is unknown.
The very last time the police were called where they found the crawlspace, they would find Danny curled up inside.
He would be charged with armed assault, sent to a juvenile detention facility for the next 10 months, and be released through a $10 000 bail in October 1987. This decision would ultimately lead to the death of 3 people in the near future.
Andrew and Priscilla Gustafson were a young couple who had been living in the small city for the past 5 years. They lived there with their two children Abigail(7), and William(5)... and she was currently pregnant awaiting another child.
They lived roughly half a mile from where Danny lived.
Not even a month after Danny was released he would break in and steal items from their home just like he did to many others. He would continue to do this to several homes in the area in the following weeks.
On December 1st, Danny would return to the home while everybody was gone.
Andrew was at work, Abigail was at school, and Priscilla was out to pickup William.
The last time Priscilla was seen alive was around 1:00 Pm when she was picking up William from the babysitter.
Danny heard Priscilla enter the home, and instead of leaving like he usually would, he took her to the bedroom, locked William in a closet, then proceeded to sexually assault her, until he decided to shoot her twice in the head. He obtained the weapon from a neighbors home that he robbed earlier.
Then he took William out of the closet, drowning him in the upstairs bathtub, and went to leave like nothing happened. Before he left Abigail returned home from school, so naturally being the horrifying monster he is, he drowned her in the downstairs bathroom before leaving.
Around 5:30 is when Andrew Gustafson would return home, and he would find the gruesome bloody leftovers of what had transpired in the main bedroom. He called the police before searching anywhere else.
Andrew would later say:
"I was too afraid of going to look for my children because I was afraid Iā€™d find them dead... It was so shocking and unbelievable. I screamed. I wailed.ā€
Officers had a feeling that Danny had something to do with it from the very start.
A police lieutenant was on the search for Danny, a resident of the area he was in felt like something was wrong so she went up to him and asked him if he would be with her as they walked into her home.
She would later say:
"I drove into the driveway and into the garage. I immediately drove back out and sit in the driveway feeling extremely uncomfortable,"
When they entered the home, Danny was there... He jumped out of one of the windows and got away as he ran into the forest.
Danny would later force a resident of a different nearby street into her car, but he would escape again after the resident had jumped from the vehicle.
Later that evening and 48 hours after the search began they would finally find him hiding in a dumpster nearby.
Hair from Abigail was found on his sock, sealing his fate in relation to the murders.
Upon hearing about what had happened, Frank Bowen would say:
"If Daniel LaPlante does not get convicted and gets out again, I will personally kill him."
"You can't imagine what kind of fear we have been living in. He is mentally insane. There is no question about it,"
"And now, I am financially broke and emotionally disturbed and trying to put my life together again."
In 1988 Daniel LaPlante was found guilty of all three murders and sentenced to 3 life sentences, with the possibility of parole after 45 years.

2024.05.18 01:43 Leather_Focus_6535 The currently 105 inmates executed by Florida since the 1970s and their crimes (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 2, cases 53-105]

This is the second half of my list for Florida's execution roster. As stated in the first part, I split it into two halves in order to follow reddit's character count limitations. Link to part 1.
The currently 105 executed offenders, cases 53 to 105:
53. Aileen Wuornos (~1974-2002, lethal injection): Wuornos murdered 7 men between the ages of 47-65. She was a street prostitute that enticed her victims with promises of sexual favors. After a victim was entrapped, Wuornos shot them dead, and robbed them of their money and their vehicles. Although Wuornos initially claimed that she killed the victims in self defense, she later admitted that they were murdered for their valuables. Her criminal history was extensive, and she had several convictions for armed robbery, assault, DUIs, reckless discharge of firearms, and disorderly conduct. She was also accused of domestic violence by an ex husband, and he placed a restraining order on her within weeks of their marriage.
54. Linroy Bottoson (~1971-2002, lethal injection): In a robbery of a post office, Bottoson stole $14,000 in money orders and $100 in cash, and abducted the post mistress, 74 year old Catherine Alexander. After holding her captive for 3 days, Bottoson stabbed Alexander 16 times, and ran her over with his car. He had several robberies on his criminal record.
55. Amos King Jr. (~1972-2002, lethal injection): After he escaped from a minimum security prison, King broke into the home of 68 year old Natalie Brady and assaulted her. She was raped, stabbed, and savagely beaten in the attack. King then set her house on fire, and returned back to the prison. At his arrival, the prison counselor confronted him about his absence and bloodied clothing. He was stabbed 25 times by King, but managed to survive his injuries. Despite her injuries, Brady managed to crawl out of her burning home, but succumbed to blood loss shortly before help could arrive. King had a previous conviction for robbery.
56. Newton Slawson (1989-2003, lethal injection): Slawson went over to the home of the Wood family (consisting of parents, 23 year old Gerald and 21 year old Peggy, and their children, 4 year old Jennifer and 3 year old Glendon) to buy some cocaine. During an argument over the transaction, Slawson shot and killed Gerald, Jennifer, and Glendon, and wounded Peggy. Slawson then stabbed Peggy (who was 8 months pregnant) with such force that he tore her unborn child out of her womb.
57. Paul Hill (1994-2003, lethal injection): During an attack on an abortion clinic, Hill shot and killed John Britton, a 69 year old abortionist, and his bodyguard, 74 year old James Barrett. Brittonā€™s wife, 68 year old June, was also wounded in the shooting. Hill was a hardline pro life activist and Christian fundamentalist, and saw ending abortion by any means necessary as his personal divine mission.
58. Johnny Robinson (~1980s-2004, lethal injection): Robinson and his teenage accomplice picked up 31 year old Beverly St. George when they found her broken down on the side of the road. They then raped St. George and shot her to death. He tried to claim that they had consensual relations and St. George was hit by an accidental discharge during intercourse. If Robinson's "recollection" was to be believed, he then shot her again to cover up an "accidental" shooting of a white woman. The courts weren't convinced by the defense, and the accomplice admitted that the murder was entirely deliberate and calculated from the beginning. Robinson had several rape convictions and accusations before St. George's murder.
59. John Blackwelder (~1970s-2004, lethal injection): While incarcerated for molesting a 10 year old boy, Blackwelder tied up his cellmate, 39 year old Raymond Wigley, under the alleged pretenses of a bondage session and strangled him to death with makeshift rope. According to Blackwelder, Wigley had been sexually harassing him, and he wanted to put a permeant end to the unwanted advances. Blackwelder had several sexual assault convictions dating back to the 1970s, and was also previously convicted for threatening former vice president Dan Quayle. His victim was the accomplice of another executed offender, John Marek, and was serving a life sentence for assisting him in the torture murder of a woman [for more details on Marek and Wigley's crimes, please see section 68] at the time of his own death.
60. Glen Ocha (1999-2005, lethal injection): Ocha picked up 28 year old Carol Skjerva from a bar and they had sex in his home. However, Skjerva allegedly made mocking remarks towards his genitals and threatened to tell her fiance of their encounter. In a drunken rage and under the influence of ecstasy, Ocha hung her with rope from his kitchen door.
61. Clarence Hill (1982-2006, lethal injection): During an attempted bank robbery with an accomplice, Hill engaged in a shootout with the responding policemen. One of the officers, 26 year old Stephen Taylor, was killed and another was wounded.

63. Danny Rolling (~1960s-2006, lethal injection): Rolling murdered a total of 8 people between the ages of 8-55. In 1989, Rolling stabbed 55 year old William Grissom, Williamā€™s 24 year old daughter Julie, and his 8 year old grandson Sean to death in their home. Julieā€™s body was ritualistically mutilated and posed during the attack. A year later, he shot his estranged father, 59 year old James. Although James survived, he was left permanently blind. Rolling then burglarized several student dorms in a week long rampage. Five students, 23 year old Tracy Paules, 23 year old Manuel Taboda, 18 year old Sonja Larson, 17 year old Christa Hoyt, and 17 year old Christina Powell, were bound, raped, and stabbed to death. Only Taboada was spared from any sexual abuse. As with Julia Grissom, Rolling posed the female victims into provocative positions and mutilated their bodies. Roiling decapitated Hoyt and placed her head on a cabinet shelf for the sole purpose of shocking witnesses stumbling across the scene. He had a long history of robberies, assaults, and voyeurism, and some of his earliest convictions occurred when he was a teenager.
64. Ɓngel DĆaz (~1960s-2006, lethal injection): In his native Puerto Rico, DĆaz stabbed an unidentified man, who was a director of a local drug rehabilitation center, 19 times while the victim was asleep. DĆaz was sentenced for second degree murder, but he escaped after beating a guard near death, and fled to Florida. During his stay in Florida, DĆaz and his accomplices robbed a strip club at gunpoint, and shot and killed the manager, 49 year old Joseph Nagy. After Nagyā€™s murder, he and his accomplices relocated themselves to Connecticut. However, they were arrested for a possession of illegal firearms charge. DĆaz and 3 other inmates briefly managed to escape by beating up a guard and threatening another at knifepoint, but were quickly recaptured. After a cellmate testified that DĆaz confessed to Nagyā€™s murder, he was deported back to Florida and sentenced to death. His execution sparked controversy, as it took him 34 minutes to succumb to the lethal drugs. DĆazā€™s other criminal convictions include shooting and injuring an officer during an armed robbery and several drug possession charges. Authorities also suspected him of being involved with several Puerto Rican nationalist insurgent groups.
65. Mark Schwab (1987-2008, lethal injection): Schwab lured 11 year old Junny Rios-Martinez into a motel room by posing as a photographer for a surfing magazine. He bound Rios-Martinez, anally penetrated him, and smothered the boy to death with a pillow. Schwab also had a conviction for the sexual battery of a 13 year old boy, and he was released after serving 3 out of an 8 year prison sentence months before Rios-Martinez's murder.
66. Richard Henyard (1993-2008, lethal injection): Henyard and his teenage accomplice carjacked 35 year old Dorothy Lewis, and her two daughters, 7 year old Jamilya and 3 year old Jasmine. The pair raped Dorothy, and shot and killed both of her daughters. Dorothy was also shot in the head, but was able to survive. Dorothy recounted that she tried praying for her and her children's safety, and Henyard taunted her by mockingly claiming to be Satan himself.
67. Wayne Tompkins (~1980s-2008, lethal injection): While helping his girlfriend move from their home, Tompkins made sexual advances on her 15 year old daughter, Lisa DeCarr. When she rejected him, Tompkins raped and strangeld her to death with a bathrobe, and tried to report DeCarr as a runaway. Tompkins also had several sexual assault convictions and accusations prior to the murder. One incident involved him abducting and abusing a gas station clerk.
68. John Marek (~1980s-2008, lethal injection): Marek and his accomplice, Raymond Wigley, picked up 47 year old Adela Simmons. They forced Simmons to perform oral sex on them, burned her fingers and pubic hairs, and strangled her to death with a bandana. The pair then dumped her body near a beach. Marek was sentenced to death for Simmons' murder, while Wigley was given a life sentence. While in prison, Wigley himself was strangled to death by the above mentioned John Blackwelder.
69. Martin Grossman (1984-2010, lethal injection): Grossman was given probation after a spree involving the burglary of an ex girlfriend's home and stealing cars. While out shooting a stolen handgun with a friend, they were confronted by Margaret Park, a 26 year old wildlife ranger. Wanting to avoid being arrested and put back into prison for violating his parole, Grossman and his friend attacked Park with a flashlight. They wrestled her service pistol away from her and shot and killed Park with it. Due to Grossman being Jewish, his death sentence outraged several Jewish organizations across the globe, and they petitioned ceaselessly for his clemency.
70. Manuel Valle (1978-2011, lethal injection): While driving a stolen car, Valle was pulled over by Louis Pena, a 41 year old police officer, for a traffic violation. In the confrontation, Valle shot Pena and his partner. Although Pena was killed in the shooting, his partner's life was saved by a bullet proof vest.
71. Oba Chandler (~1960s-2011, lethal injection): Chandler enticed a woman, 36 year old Joan Rogers, and her two daughters, 17 year old Michelle and 14 year old Christe, with the promise of a boat ride. On board, he bound the family with rope and raped all three of them. Chandler then tied concrete blocks around Joan and her daughters' necks and tossed them into the ocean to drown. He also raped and strangled 20 year old Ivelisse Berriosā€“Beguerisse after abducting her from a mall, and was linked to the murder by a 2014 DNA test 3 years after his execution. Chandler was an inveterate sexual predator with a very long criminal history, and was first arrested for car theft in his early teens. Many of his other crimes include several convictions of armed robbery, burglary, rape, counterfeiting, and kidnapping. In one incident, he broke into a coupleā€™s house, and sexually assaulted the wife in front of her husband. One surviving victim, a 24 year old Canadian tourist, helped investigators tie Chandler to the Rogersā€™ murders with her reports.
72. Robert Waterhouse (~1966-2012, lethal injection): In 1966, Waterhouse snuck into the home of 77 year old Ella Carter, and raped and strangled her to death. He was paroled after serving 8 years of a life sentence. A few years later, Waterhouse picked up 29 year old Deborah Kammerer from a bar and assaulted her on a nearby beach. He stabbed and violated Kammerer with a broken bottle, shoved a tampon down her throat, and drowned her in the ocean waters.
73. David Gore (1981-2012, lethal injection): Gore and his cousin abducted and murdered 4 teenage girls (17 year old Ying Hua Ling, 17 year old Lynn Eilliot, 14 year old Angelica LaVallee, 14 year old Barbara Byer) and 2 grown women (48 year old Hsiang Huang Ling and 35 year old Judith Daley). The victims were kidnapped through force, picked up while hitchhiking, or tricked into thinking that Gore was a police officer detaining them. They were then tied up, raped, and shot or strangled to death. The cousins dismembered the bodies in their attempts to destroy them and buried the scattered remains in shallow graves. Two of their victims, Ying Hua Ling and Hsiang Huang Ling, were a mother and daughter pair of Taiwanese immigrants, and the cousins murdered them together. A 7th victim, 14 year old friend of Eilliot, was also abducted and sodomized, but she managed to escape with Eilliot's help.
74. Manuel Pardo Jr. (1986-2012, lethal injection): Pardo was a corrupt cop heavily involved in the drug trade. After his department fired him for his abuse of power and suspected tampering of investigations, Pardo went on a crime spree. He shot and killed at least 9 men and women in robberies and interpersonal disputes. The victims he murdered in robberies were 39 year old Ulpiano Ledo, 37 year old Luis Robledo, 33 year old Mario Amador, and 28 year old Roberto Alons. In every robbery incident, he stole the victimsā€™ credit cards. Pardo killed 28 year old Fara Quintero in an argument over a ring he pawned to her and 30 year old Sara Musa for refusing his demands of buying him a VCR set with a credit card stolen from one of his previous robberies. Another victim, Michael Millot, a 38 year old Haitian refugee that took up work as a gunsmith, was slain out of Pardoā€™s fears of him being a police informant. His last murders were 40 year old Ramon Alvero, a drug dealer that he work for, and Alvaroā€™s girlfriend, 38 year old Daisy Ricard. Pardo turned on the couple after Alvaro stiffed him of a meeting. He shot Alvaro dead, but Padroā€™s gun jammed when he tried to shoot Ricard as well. As he was beating Ricard to death with his gun, it discharged and hit Pardoā€™s foot. On death row, Pardo tried to fashion himself as a vigilante trying to rid Florida of all drug related crimes.
75. Larry Mann (~1970s-2012, lethal injection): Mann ambushed 10 year old Elisa Nelson while she was biking from school to a dentist appointment. He raped Nelson and beat her to death with a pipe. Authorities also initially suspected Mann in the murders of several girls in the area, such as 16 year old Janie Sanders and 13 year old Rose Levandoski, but the current thinking is that another (still unknown) predator was likely responsible. Although he had convictions against adult women, Mann was a pedophile with a history of mostly preying on young girls.
76. Elmer Carroll (~1972-2012, lethal injection): Carroll broke into the room of 10 year old Christine McGowan. He raped and strangled the girl to death, tucked the body underneath the bedsheets, and stole her stepfather's construction truck. McGowan's body discovered was by her stepfather when he came to check on her. At the time of the murder, Carroll had two separate convictions (including one against his then 5 year old niece) for child molestation and was first accused of rape at the age of 16.
77. William Van (~1971-2013, lethal injection): Poyck Van Poyck and another man, Frank Valdez, ambushed a prison van that their incarcerated friend was being transported in with the intent of freeing him. The pair shot and killed a guard, 40 year old Fred Griffis and wounded another. Despite overtaking the van, they were forced to retreat without their friend with the arrival of police reinforcements. Both were captured after a brief shootout with the police and were given death sentences for Griffisā€™ murder. The case sparked controversy when Valdez was beaten to death by other prison guards in his cell. The officers involved were all fired but acquitted for murder in their trials. Van Poyck had several convictions of armed robbery on his record.
78. John Ferguson (~1960s-2013, lethal injection): Ferguson was the mastermind of the Carol City massacre that his above mentioned accomplices, Marvin Francois and Beauford White, participated in. He also committed a series of murders on his own. Two of his other victims, 17 year old Brian Glenfeldt and 17 year old Belinda Worley, were a couple that were ambushed in the parking lot of an ice cream shop. Ferguson raped Worley, shot her and Glenfeldt dead, and ran off with her jewelry and Glenfeldtā€™s wallet. Another couple, 82 year old Katherine and 75 year old Raymond Perry, were assaulted by Ferguson in their motel room, robbed, and shot dead execution style. Authorities also believe that Ferguson was responsible for the murders of James Ward, a 40 year old runaway from a mental institution, and Joseph Walters (age unknown), but was never convicted of them in court. Ferguson had a troubled upbringing, was stealing cars at the age of 13, and convicted for the attempted murder of an officer. Due to allegations of him being a schizophrenic, his execution was delayed numerous times, which is why he was put to death decades after his accomplices.
79. Marshall Gore (1988-2013, lethal injection): Gore abducted and murdered two women, 30 year old Robyn Novick and 19 year old Susan Roark. Both women were last seen in his company, and they were raped, beaten, and stabbed to death. He also carjacked 32 year old Tina Coralis while she was driving with her 2 year old son Jimmy. Gore raped Tina, beat her with a rock, slit her throat, dumped her on the side of the road, and drove off with her car while Jimmy was still in it. Tina survived the attack and notified the police about her kidnapped son and stolen car. The police were able to rescue Jimmy unharmed and capture Gore without incident.
80. William Happ (~1980s-2013, lethal injection): Happ dragged 21 year old Angela Crowley out of her own car window in a convenience store parking lot. He anally raped and strangled Crowley to death with her pants. A corner's report mentioned that Crowley received over 20 blows to her head during the assault. Happ had several convictions of armed robbery, one of which pertained to an abduction incident.
81. Darius Kimbrough (1991-2013, lethal injection): Kimbrough climbed into the apartment window of 28 year old Denise Collin with the help of a ladder. He raped and repeatedly slammed her head against the wall. She was found bloodied and nude by the paramedics called to the scene. Collin died of her injuries in the hospital a day after the attack. Her murder went unsolved until samples of Kimbroughā€™s DNA were collected from another one of his rapes. With the presence of additional pubic hairs found in Collinā€™s room, at least two other men were also certainly involved, but they remain at large to this day.
82. Thomas Knight (~1960s-2013, lethal injection): Knight began his string of murders by abducting his former employer, 64 year old Sydney Gans, and Sydney's wife, 60 year old Lillian. After her forced them to withdraw $50,000 from their bank accounts, Knight shot the Gans' dead. He was apprehended and, but he managed to escape from jail while awaiting trial. While on the run, Knight gunned down a clerk, 54 year old William Culpepper, while holding up a liquor store, and $640 from the cash register. A month later, Knight was recaptured following an armed standoff with police, and sentenced to death for the Gan killings. On death row, he stabbed a correctional officer, 48 year old Richard Burke, to death with a sharpened spoon over the prison allegedly barring him from seeing his mother. Knight had numerous theft and burglary convictions that date back to when he was 9 years old.
83. Juan Chavez (1995-2014, lethal injection): Chavez accosted 9 year old Jimmy Ryce when the boy was dropped off at a stop by a school bus, and abducted him at gunpoint. He took Ryce to a trailer on his employers' property and raped him. When Ryce tried to signal a passing helicopter for help, Chavez shot him in the back of the head, and muffled his cries as he died. The body was then decapitated and dismembered, and Chavez buried the remains near his trailer.
84. Paul Howell (~1990s-2014, lethal injection): Howell was part of a drug smuggling gang. One of the members had a falling out with the ring and made an agreement with law enforcement to testify against them. Howell constructed a microwave bomb to assassinate the witness in her home, and he assigned an associate to carry out the hit. As he was transporting the bomb to its intended destination, the associate was pulled over and detained by deputies. While being processed, the bomb detonated prematurely, and killed a deputy, 35 year old James Fulford, Jr.
85. Robert Henry (1987-2014, lethal injection): As part of his plan to assault the gas station that he worked at, Henry tricked his co workers, 53 year old Phyllis Harris and 35 year old Janet Thermidor, into thinking that a robber was holding him hostage. He duped the women into allowing themselves to be tied up and gagged, as Henry claimed to them that the fictitious "robber" was forcing him to do it. Both women were beaten with hammers as Henry ransacked the stationā€™s store. After he stole a total of $1,269 from the register, he poured gasoline all over the building, and set it on fire. Thermidor and Harris were burned alive in the blaze and died of their injures, but Thermidor survived long enough to identify Henry as the assailant.
86. Robert Hendrix (1990-2014, lethal injection): To prevent his cousin, 25 year old Elmer Scott Jr., from testifying against him in a then upcoming burglary trail, Hendrix broke into the home that he shared with his wife, 18 year old Susan, with an accomplice. He shot Susan and Elmer, beat them with the butt of his rifle, and slashed their throats. In the case that he was about to be tried for, Elmer and Hendrix burglarized a home together, and Elmer agreed to testify against him in exchange for a reduced sentence.
87. John Henry (~1975-2014, lethal injection): In 1975, Henry got into an argument with his first wife, 28 year old Patricia Roddy, while they were driving with her daughters. Henry pulled over and stabbed Patricia to death in front of her children. After he plead guilty, Henry was given a 15 year sentence for second degree murder, and was released in 1983 after serving 8. Shortly after his release, he married 28 year old Suzanne Overstreet. As what happened with his first wife, he fatally stabbed Suzanne during an argument in 1985. He then took his stepson, 4 year old Eugene Christian, to a chicken farm and stabbed him to death as well. Henry also had several convictions for the possession of drugs and illegal firearms.
88. Eddie Davis (~1980s-2014, lethal injection): Davis kidnapped his ex girlfriend's daughter, 11 year Kimberly Waters, from her home and gagged her with a rag. He took the girl to a trailer that he used to live in, and raped and strangled her to death. His criminal activity before the murder included several arrests for burglary and autotheft.
89. Chadwick Banks (1992-2014, lethal injection): Banks shot his wife, 30 year old Cassandra, in the head while she was sleeping on their couch. He then crept into the room of his stepdaughter, 10 year old Melody Cooper, and sexually assaulted her. Melody was also shot dead during the abuse.
90. Johnny Kormondy (~1989-2014, lethal injection): Kormondy and his two accomplices invaded a house that Gary McAdams, a 38 year old banker, shared with his wife, 38 year old Cecilia. The couple were ambushed after they returned home from a high school reunion. Gary was shot and killed by Kormondy, while Cecilia was forced to orally copulate the other intruders. Several items were stolen in the robbery, but my sources didnā€™t disclose any specifics. Kormondy had several previous convictions of robberies and auto thefts, and the earliest occurred when he was 14.
91. Jerry Correll (1985-2015, lethal injection): Correll shot and killed his ex wife, 25 year old Susan, their daughter, 5 year old Tuesday, Susan's sister, 29 year old Marybeth Jones, and their mother, 58 year old Mary Lou Hines. All four victims were murdered in a home they shared together.
92. Oscar Bolin (~1977-2015, lethal injection): Bolin was sentenced to death for the abductions and murders of 26 year old Teri Matthews, 25 year old Natalie Holley, and 17 year old Stephanie Collins. All 3 victims were kidnapped while they were getting off from work, raped, and killed in beating and stabbing attacks. He raped and strangled a fourth victim, 30 year old Deborah Stowe, to death in Texas, but wasn't charged due to already facing the death penalty in Florida. Bolin also took part in the non fatal abduction and gang rape of a waitress in Ohio, was charged for kidnapping his girlfriend (which were later dropped by the courts), and had several theft convictions that started when he was 15.
93. Mark Asay (1987-2017, lethal injection): Asay shot and killed a black man, 34 year old Robert Booker, during a racially charged fight that he picked at a bar. After Booker's murder, Asay, his brother, and their friend went cruising for prostitutes. They encountered a cross dressing sex worker, 26 year old Robert McDowell, they were acquainted with and picked him up. McDowell was also shot dead by Asay when they got into an argument over payment for an oral sex act.
94. Michael Lambrix (1983-2017, lethal injection): While intoxicated, Lambrix beat one of his friends, 35 year old Clarence Moore, to death with a tire iron, and fatally strangled another friend, 19 year old Aleisha Bryant, with a t-shirt in their trailer. He was previously arrested for welfare fraud and was detained for an unspecified "unrelated charge" during the murder investigation.
95. Patrick Hannon (1991-2017, lethal injection): 27 year old Brandon Snider vandalized the bedroom of his ex girlfriend while she was away on vacation. The ex girlfriend's brother was friends with Hannon, and he convinced him to launch a revenge attack on Snider with the help of another friend. They broke into Snider's apartment, stabbed him, and slit his throat. Snider's roommate, 28 year old Robert Carter, witnessed the murder, and tried hiding underneath his bed. Hannon dragged Carter out and shot him to death.
96. Eric Branch (1991-2018, lethal injection): In 1993, Branch abducted and carjacked 21 year old Susan Morris. He raped, beat, and strangled her to death, and then buried Morris' body in a shallow grave near a nature trail. Branch used Morris' car to flee back to his native Indiana, but was captured for a traffic violation. A registered sex offender, Branch had previous convictions for sexually abusing a 14 year old girl, and raped an unidentified woman 10 days before Morris' murder.
97. JosƩ JimƩnez (~1990-2018, lethal injection): JimƩnez fatally strangled Marie Debas, a 32 year old French woman who was allegedly in a relationship with a Medellin cartel drug runner, during a burglary of her apartment. Two years later, he burglarized the home of 63 year old Phyllis Minas, and stabbed her to death.
98. Bobby Long (~1990-2018, lethal injection): As the ā€œClassified Ad Rapistā€, Long raped over 50 women. He was given that epithet due to contacting and luring his victims through classified ads. After one of his victims sought charges that initially convicted him (though were later dropped on appeals), Longā€™s pattern of sexual violence escalated to murder. Long murdered at least 10 women and teenage girls between the ages of 18-28 and non fatally assaulted a 33 year old woman, Linda Nuttall, and a 17 year old girl, Lisa McVey. The victims were picked up through hitchhiking, forcibly grabbed while walking alone on streets, or were prostitutes lured with promises of payment for sexual favors. Longā€™s sparing of his last victim, McVey, provided to be his downfall, as it was her meticulously detailed reports that led law enforcement to him.
99. Gary Bowles (~1970s-2019, lethal injection): Bowles lured 6 men, 72 year old Milton Bradley, 59 year old John Roberts, 47 year old Walter Hinton, 47 year old Alverson, 39 year old David Jarman, and 38 year old Albert Morris by prostituting himself to them. Once a victim was enticed, Bowles strangled them, and stole their credit cards. He also had several convictions for armed robbery, hospitalized his stepfather in his early teens, and served a 6 year prison sentence for sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
100. Donald Dillbeck (~1979-2023, lethal injection): In 1979, Dillbeck stole a car, and was pulled over by a deputy, 31 year old Dwight Hall. After a prolonged chase and scuffle, Dillbeck shot and killed Hall with his own gun. He was then given a life sentence for Hall's murder. Dillbeck escaped from prison in 1990, and stabbed 44 year old Robbie Vann to death while trying to seize her car. The pursuing officers recaptured him shortly after the killing, and he was sentenced to death for Vann's murder.
101. Louis Gaskin (~1986-2023, lethal injection): Gaskin started his burglary spree by breaking into the home of couple, 56 year old Robert and 55 year old Georgette Sturmfels. He shot them both dead, and stole their lamp, VCR set, and some jewelry and money. His second target was a house owned by 38 year old Joseph Rector and his wife Mary (age unknown). Although Gaskin shot Joseph, the couple both managed to escape him with their lives. Due to him wearing a ninja costume as a disguise during the robberies, he was dubbed as the "Ninja Killer" by media outlets. Gaskin also had a few robbery convictions at the time of the murders.
102. Darryl Barwick (1983-2023, lethal injection): Barwick stalked 24 year old Rebecca Wendt as she was sunbathing in a pool, followed her to her apartment, and forced himself inside to rob it. He stabbed Wendt 37 times and raped her. At the age of 16, Barwick had committed a similar act of rape and burglary against an unidentified woman, and was released from prison 3 months before Wendt's murder.
103. Duane Owen (1984-2023, lethal injection): Owen raped 14 year old Karen Slattery while burglarizing a home she was babysitting at, and stabbed her to death. 104. James Barnes (~1988-2023, lethal injection): In 1988, Barnes invaded the home of 41 year old Patricia Miller, and tied her up with her own shoelaces. She was sexually assaulted, beaten to death with a hammer, and Barnes set her bed on fire to destroy any evidence of the crime. 9 years later, Barnes strangled his estranged wife, 44 year old Linda, to death in her home, and stuffed the body into a closet. He stayed in the house until he was arrested by police officers. Barnes also admitted to the shooting deaths of Chester Wetmore, a 14 year old runaway, and Brenda Fletcher, a 50 year old prostitute, but was never charged for their killings. According to Barnes, he killed both victims for stealing from him.
105. Michael Zack III (1996-2023, lethal injection): Zack befriended two women, 40 year old Laura Rosillo and 31 year old Ravonne Smith, while hanging out at bars. He lured Rosillo to the beach with the promise of drugs, and assaulted her with a tire iron. Rosillo was raped, strangled to death, and he buried her body in a sand dune. A day later, he tricked Smith into letting him inside her house. She was smashed in the head with a glass bottle, raped, and stabbed to death. Zack then fled with her car, television set, VCR, and her purse. On a different note, when he was a child, Zackā€™s older sister dismembered their mother with an ax over an argument regarding the sisterā€™s boyfriend. He used that story to gain the sympathy of his victims. His sister (who was simply institutionalized rather then incarcerated for the murder) also testified about their stepfatherā€™s alleged abuse of them at his trial, though the prosecutors debunked most of her stories.

Note: for some games from humble I might ask for gift links. There is a rumor 3 years ago that humble bans users due to making gift links only. I make gift links every week, never have any issues. I have no idea why humble would ever ban its customers for using a feature it provides to its custimers.

Here is a guide how to make gift links from support.Humblebundle.com: https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/202712460-Purchasing-and-Sending-Gifts

I do not believe humble teaches you how to make gift links, so it can ban you, lol

2024.05.17 20:43 swtogirl [New Updates] The Epic Saga of 2 Brothers and a Truck

I am not the OP. That is u/No_Chrysler-4-Me. Originally posted on EntitledPeople and pettyrevenge.

There are two previous BORUs I posted last year:
First Post Jan 8, 2023
Second Post Jan 8, 2023

Trigger Warning: Domestic Violence

Editor's Note: THIS IS VERY LONG! OP posts a lot about his family. I will include links to other posts at the bottom of this BORU, but I will keep this post focused on the brother and OP.

TL;DR of the above BORUs: OP's older brother is lazy and a cheapskate. OP bought a truck, an '03 Toyota Tundra. Brother gets jealous and buys a 01 Dodge Ram 1500, but it's crap. OP tries to help brother fix up the truck despite warning him not to buy it. Once it was running a little better, brother challenges OP to a race. Brother loses and becomes obsessed with practicing racing, ruining the truck further. Eventually they go camping, have more shenanigans, brother finally blows the transmission. Brother has to drive his ex-girlfriend's minivan, which he hates, tries to LS Swap the Ram, but no one will lend him the money. He eventually sells it. Brother doesn't stop there. He NEEDS a truck, so he has the brilliant idea of chopping the minivan up to make it into a truck. He needs money to Frankenstein the minivan, no one will pay, but eventually he cuts it up, uses recycled wood to make the truck bed, etc. He calls it the "Mini-Ram."

My brother sold the Mini-Ram and got a Silverado. That was fine. It's what happened after that made things worse May 5, 2024

I've been gone for some time. But I'm back with a bad one. I've spoken before about how my older brother competed with me needlessly. And he did a lot of beyond stupid shit. Well he finally pushed the whole family over the edge, and got disowned. And I'm going to be explaining a lot of what happened the past year, and then some from before that. But it's too long for one post.
Well going back more than a year. Some may remember my brother getting a free minivan from his ex after the Dodge Ram truck I warned him not to buy became a moneypit. I helped him work on that truck and even repaint it. And I helped him remodel his camper trailer too. Why? Because he's my brother. And I guess some part of me deep down kept hoping he'd one day change. But he tried to take credit for things I did. Especially with remodeling the camper. And he had tantrums when called out on his lies. He also became temporarily obsessed with my truck, and even implied he'd just take it from me because he hated driving a minivan. He referred to it as a chick car. He acted like a complete child because I refused to trade vehicles, and even got our parents involved. It was just a really stupid and needless situation that my brother tried to make a hill to die on.
It started when my brother bought his Dodge Ram simply because I bought a Toyota Tundra. He had a perfectly running Subaru Baja before that. Then he said he wanted a man's truck and bought the worst barely running pile he could find that was also overpriced considering the condition. He could have at least aimed for a diesel since he wanted a dodge so bad. Lots of dumb shit happened after that. Including my brother wanting to LS swap the Ram after destroying it's engine and two transmissions. But I'm pretty sure the person who offered to do the LS swap for him was a scammer. Not to mention LS swapping any vehicle basically means replacing the ECU. But it never happened anyway since the engine and transmission my brother wanted sold before he could get them. And he had no running vehicle anymore. So my brother's ex, whom he has a young child with, gave him her old 90s Ford Windstar van. It was admittedly an ugly, dent riddled POS with the rear window busted out. But it still ran and drove surprisingly well, considering that's not one of Ford's better vehicles. And then my brother decided to cut it up into some sort of van/truck. Or a ute as they're called in some places. But he made this thing ugly. Lots of spray foam, recycled wood, and rattle can paint. Even mismatched sub-lights above the cab. He frequently raided the junkyard for parts. And he even glued a Ram badge onto the grill of that van/truck. He called it the Mini-Ram. Lots of stupid cheap mods done to that vehicle too. Someone once asked me how ugly the Mini-Ram was on a scale of 1 to 1000. And I said about a 667.
My brother did a lot of other dumb things in this time. Like following me camping just to piss me off. He was a general leech who stole power from my generator, and tried to steal beer from my camper fridge repeatedly. He was so brazen as to just walk right in, and then tried to pretend to be so drunk he didn't realize what he was doing when caught. I've spoken many times about how he stole booze from me. Until my friends and I revenge pranked him and his near equally douchey friends with a growler full of laxative tainted beer. We admittedly used way too much laxative. But my brother never stole from me again because I threatened to tell everyone about his humiliation. He crapped on his own shoes squatting in the woods. And that's just a bit of it.
Eventually my brother seemed to learn his lesson. He sold the Mini-Ram to someone who actually paid him well for it. And no, I don't know what they did with it. And I don't care. But, when the 2K he sold the Mini-Ram for was combined with his savings, my brother had a bit over 4.5K to buy a better vehicle with. And he spotted a 99 RWD Silverado truck with an extended cab for sale online. He really shouldn't have sold his only method of transportation before having a replacement vehicle ready. But I couldn't fault him for taking the deal when presented, considering what he sold. And as much as my brother annoyed me, I still cared about him enough to help. He showed up begging me to drive him over 60 miles to look at this truck he found on Market Place.
So I reluctantly drove him out to see this truck. It wasn't that bad actually. Save for the rough mismatched paint, the rusty hood, the dents, the cracked windshield, and.... Actually, I guess it was kinda that bad. But not compared to the clapped out Ram my brother bought previously. The Silverado had a manual transmission, which we both confirmed shifted great as the records showed it had been rebuilt a few years before. The engine had been swapped at one time too. So it was kinda hard to gauge the odometer as it had not been rolled back for the new engine. It was at about 350.000 miles, but those numbers don't really mean jack when the engine and tranny have been replaced or rebuilt. Admittedly the engine ran like a top. The tires on the truck were in pretty damn good shape too. And on steel rims. Which I like. Very practical. I asked my brother if this was the manly kind of truck he'd been looking for. And for once he spoke logically and said that he'd rather have this than risk what happened with the Ram again. Fair enough. Besides, Chevy trucks are cool and reliable. I've always liked them. Like a rock as they say.
My brother and I scrutinized this truck in detail like a pair of pawn brokers, and talked the price down to 3K. They wanted 4K. But we could hear a sound while test driving it that was either bad ball joints or wheel bearings. We jacked up the wheels, and the bearings felt and sounded fine. But the ball joints were pretty bad. And that's not a cheap fix unless you can do it yourself. The truck was owned by the seller's father, who'd passed away a year prior. So the guy took 3K for it after we listed the problems. After driving it back, I insisted my brother get the truck to a mechanic ASAP. And he listened that time. The mechanic said the ball joints were about to come apart, and it's have caused a very bad situation if they had. And it cost him a grand to get them replaced. The truck also needed new plates ant the title registered. Which ate up a lot of the remaining budget. Then came the paint. My brother wanted the Silverado painted black right away. I told him to wait. But he didn't listen and DIY'd some body work, and then rattle-canned it with Rustolium turbo cans. The paint was full of orange peel, and overspray. He didn't even use primer. And the truck looked kinda mediocre. Then the southern weather had at it. Already numerous chips, scrapes and fades. Whatever. I stopped caring.
You'd think that'd be the end of this part. But no. There's more. What's behind door number 3? If you guessed a dumbass with a knife stuck in his ass. Then you'd win the gold! Yeah that's right. My brother got a knife in his ass.... How? How else... He and his friends all got high and decided they were gonna go outside and build a fort in the back yard of the house they rent out of scrap they found laying around. My brother while stoned wanted to show off how he can flip out a butterfly knife really fast, and decided he was gonna act like he was in an action movie, and did some sort of stupid thing where he was running and flipping out the knife really fast. The ground was wet, he slipped, and somehow got the knife in his right butt-cheek. They called me to come take him to the hospital because they were all too stoned to drive. I had to lay my brother down in the bed of my truck on a mattress because we were too scared to pull the knife out, and I drove him to the hospital like that. They rushed him in, and thankfully he only needed about 5 stiches on his butt and some antibiotics. Then I drove him back home the same way, and he insisted I take him to a drive through. He also tried to get me to pay, because...reasons! I told him to buy his own damn food.
After that there was more dumb BS that I won't bother getting into. But eventually my brother was seemingly getting bett...er...less bad. He was a bit sore his Silverado wasn't a 4X4, and my Tundra is. But being RWD kept him from trying to take it off-roading. He did try once, and had to pull the truck out of mud with a come-along. And he didn't try it again. He did want to drag race my truck again too. I said hell no. Not gonna risk either of our piles breaking down. And he was a complete douche about that too. I told him to stop acting like his dick was bigger than it is, and act his age. He didn't take that well. But he seemingly really was improving. Even being a much better dad to his daughter. Things got pretty good for him. Until I decided to buy a house. That's when the serious drama started.

My entitled brother threw a massive fit, just because he was mad I bought a house May 6, 2024

Yeah, I'm aware of several similar stories involving entitled family members wanting houses they have no claim to. But I guess this shit really happens. And it's no picnic when it does.
I suddenly became a homeowner some time ago because friend of mine's grandfather was moving to Florida. And his house was ripe for picking. I knew the old man well. RIP, he passed a few months later from a sudden stroke. Anyway, he offered the house and property to me for 200K. I practically ran to the bank to apply for the loan. The house is a manufactured home from the 80s. But it was remodeled repeatedly by the former owner, and has a separate garage building. The home and property could have gone for more. But he offered the house to me because he knew I'd take care of it. I had 30K saved that made a good down payment. And I was happy to leave my apartment. I'd wanted to eventually move out of there after what my cheating ex did anyway. But that's a story for another time.
As for my brother. Well he went bonkers when he found out I bought a house. He had this repeated history of copycatting me for the past decade. But this... There was no way in hell he could copycat buying a house with his terrible credit and inconsistent income. And he got in an argument with me over how I was just trying to make him look bad by doing something he couldn't. No, I just wanted a damn house. And the price was too good to refuse. Then he told me I should have turned it down because...(He had no good reason) I could practically see his screws getting looser with every dumbass excuse he made as to why I shouldn't have done it. But I pointed out all those excuses were just because I did something he currently can't. And when I bought the house, it had nothing to do with him. I just wanted to be a home owner for the security and extra space. I finally don't have to store my camper at my parents' house. And I have a garage that I can store stuff and tinker in.
I bought a camping cot, he bought a camping cot, went to the gym, he went to the gym, bought good booze, he bought good booze (Or stole it from me), I bought a new TV, be bought a new TV, I bought a truck, he bought a truck, I bought a camper, he bought a camper, I bought a used portable DVD player, he bought a used portable DVD player, I went camping in a specific place, he went camping in that specific place, I bought a house, he...(404 Error! Insert tea kettle noises and Benny Hill chase). He also acted like a complete child toward me when he built his Mini-Ram thing. He actually confronted me and said it was keweler than my boring Tundra, because it was something original. I swear, he did the dumbest mods to that vehicle. Like putting twist studs in the suspension coils to raise the ride height.
Well after weeks of openly fuming about me being a home owner, my brother suddenly acted like he had another brilliant idea. He wanted to move in with me. I laughed at him. Then he ended up demanding I rent one of my rooms to him. And for only $200 a month (Utilities included) because he shouldn't have to pay any more than that since we're family. He flipped his lid when I said fuck no! Then he got our parents involved again. Only this time they actually sided with him at first. Though it was mainly our mother. She and my brother showed up demanding I let my brother move in. And my brother had a shit eating grin on his face that I could tell he was thinking he was getting his way thanks to mommy dearest. I said "FUCK NO!" to both their faces, and my mother cried that I was using foul language to her and being an ass when I had the space now. I called my dad, and he told my mom that he'd warned her I wouldn't do it. And to leave me the hell alone. Mom whined my brother was living out of his camper next to a shabby house he was renting space from. I said that wasn't my problem to fix. And my brother has proven countless times that he cannot be trusted. My brother was fuming to the point of being red with veins popping out. My mom tried one more time to convince me with tears. And that just made me angrier.
I went on a rant that was something like this. Bro can't buy a house, so he wanted to invade mine. I refuse to ever live with my brother again. I would sooner live in the woods without electricity than with him. He's intentionally irritating as all hell. And if I had him as a roommate, I just knew he'd steal my booze, take my stuff, and invade my privacy none-stop. Not. Fucking. HAPPENING! No matter how many tears mom tries using on me. My mom broke down and finally conceded she'd never convince me after that rant. And she had to take my brother by the hand and leave with him because he initially refused to go, and kept begging her to turn back and make me let him move in. And then I yelled to him that it was a laugh that he called me a mama's boy before. Because he'd become exactly that. And this was just like the time he tried to get our mother to make me trade vehicles with him because he felt ashamed to be driving a minivan. He yanked away from mom, then told me to go fuck myself and the horse I rode in on. I laughed and pointed out I didn't ride in on anything, because I was already home. But his rattlecan horse was waiting for him in the driveway. He flipped his lid again, and looked like his head was going to explode. But mom got in front of him, and told him to just go. Then he drove off in his rattlecan Silverado without her. He'd driven her there. And then I had to take her home.
While taking her home, I made things very clear with my mother over why I could never trust my brother again. And his life was not my burden to bear. And then told her how little my brother was offering for rent anyway. Which he'd conveniently not told her. Then I later rented that same room to one of my best friends for $600 a month, and he pays for utilities. The other two rooms are my bedroom and a home office. There's an extra room in the separate garage too. So my mother tried to make me let my brother live in the garage instead. There's enough room in it's storage room for a bedroom. Again I said fuck no. And that's since been turned into another friend's rented room with a bit of a plywood remodel. Yeah, I kinda rented both the spare bedroom and garage room out to friends out of spite. But I wasn't letting my brother live with me in any capacity!
My brother later ended up having a complete meltdown in front of our parents over how he's the older brother. He should be the one who owns a house first. He's supposed to be successful, and I'm supposed to be the big loser in his shadow. Our dad poked him with his cane and told him that's not how life works, and they had a big argument. They told him to get out and not come back until he's cooled off and learned that he's just being a pointlessly jealous asshole.
The next part I post, my brother did the dumbest thing of all.
Edit: I came home late to over 600 comments, and still more pouring in. Far too many for me to answer. So I'll clear some things up here. Yes, I am no contact with my brother. And he's NC with the rest of the family as well. I do have cameras inside and outside my home. And a dash cam too. My brother knows this, and has stayed the fuck away since he left town. I'm told I'm an asshole too. Not arguing that, because it's true. I'm not exactly the nicest guy. But have someone like my brother in your life, and see how peachy you turn out.
Some have mentioned to having siblings just like my brother. Sadly I know very well people like him are increasingly common these days. My dad said a number of times that my brother probably would have ended up dead in an alley if he lived here 50 years ago with the way he behaves. As for our ages. I'm 30, and my brother is 32. I have not given my parents a spare key to my house. One is with a friend, and another is very cleverly hidden.
My house is a manufactured home. But it's not in a trailer park, and has been significantly modified with new siding and a new roof, and has a separate garage building. The previous owner was a former general contractor, and he loved to build and repair. And yes, I do have good insurance.
I keep seeing comments about a clock radio. Pardon me for not getting the reference. But I do own a digital alarm clock that has a built in CD player. Currently plays Tina Turner's Proud Mary to wake me up.
My brother and I were raised pretty evenly. He was always a jerk. But went full asshole after moving out. But our mother didn't favor him. She chewed him out plenty. And she didn't normally side with his stupidity. She just wanted him to live in a better place than in a camper next to a house filled with potheads. Addition: My brother willingly moved into that camper. He was renting half a room in that house of potheads. Then convinced the landlord to let him live in his camper on the property for the same price instead. And he bragged about his camper a lot. Which he has a full gaming center in, complete with PlayStation. He only wanted to invade my house to piss me off and make his cost of living even lower. He also doesn't like camping nearly as much as me. He mainly liked just pissing me off by following me. He loved to make me miserable. In fact, he felt entitled to make me miserable. That's the kind of person he is.
Do I have a restraining order against my brother? Not really. Just didn't bother. Because even if I did, it'd only be for like a year. And my brother wouldn't let something like that stop him if he was truly determined anyway.

My entitled brother lost his mind and attacked me, his ex, and our father. That got him disowned by the family. But not before I beat the crap out of him May 8, 2024

Warning: Contains domestic violence, small town drama, and idiocy. Read at own risk.
My brother's major downhill spiral started with jealousy over my house, but only got worse thanks to this next part. He started smoking pot more heavily and drinking harder. And that was making him more aggressive and violent. He got in a brawl outside of a bar for reasons I still don't know. But he got his ass handed to him on a platter. He eventually found out his ex has been seeing someone else. And ironically that someone is another friend of mine. Which was news to me. But it's not like he wasn't around my brother's ex a fair bit. They're both fairly social people, and were also friends for years. Once the secret was out, he confessed to me it wasn't planned. But my brother's ex Sara (Fake name) and my friend just clicked one day about a year ago. This sorta thing can only happen in a town like ours. I admit, Sara is very beautiful. But I've always seen her as a big sister figure ever since she started dating my brother in high school. So I never thought of getting with her myself. She kept her new boyfriend a secret for some time. I didn't even know until someone else spilled the beans. And the word traveled. When my brother found out, that was the last he could mentally take.
My brother was hoping for years that Sara would take him back. But no such luck there. When he lost his mind over the fact my friend was dating Sara, he started hunting for the poor guy. My friend is not a fighter, and a self described beanpole. So that's what I'll call him. Sara seems to like Beanpole because he's everything my brother is not. He isn't really a brave person. And came to me when he found out my brother was looking for him. He has a rather distinctively painted car. So it's easy to spot. My brother caught wind Beanpole was at my place, and came roaring his truck down the street.
When my brother showed up to my house, he started screaming and banging on my door because he wanted to kick Beanpole's ass. And when I refused to let him in, he attacked me. We had a redneck brawl right there in my front lawn. I want to say I won. But the fight only stopped when one of my friend/tenants yelled he was gonna call the cops. I sucker-punched my brother while he was distracted, and told him to never come back to my house again. And if he ever tried to hurt Beanpole again, I'd make sure he'd up in the hospital with two broken legs. This was backed by the other friends/tenants I had there. My brother is an idiot. But even he knew that pissing off my entire friend group was not a good idea. So he picked himself up off the ground and started leaving. But he clearly looked like he wanted to do something to my truck because he stopped and just stood there staring at it with his hands in his pockets, like he was debating scratching the paint with his keys. I yelled at him that I have CCTV. But then he turned around, pulled his pants part way down, and started rubbing his ass directly onto my truck's passenger side door. Then he forced out a nasty fart and said he sharted a little, and laughed like a nutbar when he took off. I immediately got the hose. I'm just glad I didn't leave windows open or doors unlocked. Otherwise he'd have done far worse. And the smell of what he did was pretty much what you'd think.
Everyone already knew Sara was never going to take him back. She avoided dating for years because my brother is so unhinged that she knew he'd do something like this. That's why she and her new boyfriend kept it secret. I went to ice my bruises and call Sara. But my brother was already calling and texting her. Over and over again, he wouldn't stop. He was begging she break up with her boyfriend and take him back. He even said he wanted to marry her and move to the northwest. Not sure why he specified that part of the US. Maybe because we live in the southeast. But she flatly told him no, never again, not happening even if hell froze over. He cried that it wasn't fair, because she was his first love (she wasn't), and they have a daughter together. Then he started sending her flowers, love letters and gifts. She sent them all back. Then she announced online that she and Beanpole had been dating for some time, and recently made plans to eventually move in together. That's when my brother really went off the deep end.
A few hours after he saw that post, my brother got wasted and then barged into Sara's parents' house by body ramming the back door. He actually cut his face because the door had a glass window. But he was so drunk that he didn't notice he was bleeding. Sara understandably freaked out, and my brother grabbed and tried to force her to kiss him. She pushed him away and he hit her for refusing him. He slapped her and threw her to the floor really hard like an angry pimp wanting his money. And his daughter saw it all and started screaming at the top of her lungs. Sara screamed too, and my brother fled. Police were called, and Sara was taken to the hospital. My brother threw her down so hard that she had a dislocated shoulder. My brother was found by police at his camper, where he was even more drunk than before, and half his face was covered in blood. He had to be taken to the hospital, where he got stitches. Then taken to jail. He got charged with trespassing, breaking and entering, and assault. (Surprisingly not DUI too, as he'd actually walked there) When our parents and I found out, well the family finally couldn't take it anymore, and went into an uproar. Our parents had it out with my brother after he bailed himself out from jail, and then he tried to fight our dad when they argued. And no surprise, he tried to blame everything on me.
My brother actually said I let Beanpole steal his woman. But couldn't really explain how. He also refused to believe I did not know until recently. Then he said that Sara was supposed to be his. Dad not only disagreed, but told my brother that he was a fucking disgrace, and that was an absolutely disgusting way to talk about Sara. She's not his property. And then my brother shoved dad as hard as he could. Dad got knocked to the floor, and my brother started kicking him. Dad isn't a small man. But he's old with a bad back and a bad knee. And needs a cane just to get around. Since we knew my brother would only have gotten crazier if he saw me, I was hiding in another room with the door cracked and listening in. I knew he might do something crazy. So I insisted on secretly being in the house when he was confronted. And I'm glad I was, because I came to dad's defense before my brother could do too much damage. I knew we were roughly even in a fight. So I ambushed and hit him in the back with a rubber mallet, and then beat the shit out of him. No police were called that time. I attacked him in defense of our dad. So he probably would have been screwed if he tried to get me charged anyway. And then he'd have gone right back to jail. Someone also once asked me if I enjoyed beating up my brother that day. I did not. I was just in an adrenaline fueled rage protecting my dad. But all things considered, I could have done far worse to my brother with that rubber mallet, as he only really got bruises. My dad gave hm a good smack in the face with his cane too though. But it's just hollow aluminum. Not exactly a damage dealer.
Our parents (mainly my dad) disowned my brother as I threw him out the door. And he spent some time crying on the porch and saying he was sorry and didn't mean it, then switched to saying we could all regret this, and we could go fuck ourselves before finally leaving. My mother spent hours crying. She'd stuck up for him before, and this was how he repaid her. My brother managed to avoid real prison time, or a trial for attacking Sara by taking a guilty plea deal. He signed away custody of his daughter. And Sara got a restraining order against him. My brother got a fine, somehow only a couple months in county jail, probation, has to abstain from alcohol for six months, and he had to pay for the property damage. Sara's dad already put in a new door, and billed my brother for it. My brother also understandably lost his job due to the situation.
Our mother secretly kept in contact with my brother, and agreed to look after my brother's truck and camper while he was serving his two month sentence. And she didn't ok it with dad first. He was pretty pissed at her for going behind his back. But she reasoned that it would be the last thing they ever did for him, because she didn't want my brother to have no place to go after getting out of the clink. And even she made it clear it was the last of her good will towards him too. Once my brother got out of jail, mom drove his truck and camper to a store to meet him, and gave him back the keys. She told me there was barely a word of thanks from him. Mostly just grunts when she tried to get him to talk to her. Dad said he still looked like an ungrateful sod. After that my brother lived wherever he could park his camper for a while until one of his remaining friends somehow got him a new job as a welder in another town 40-ish miles away that he was having to commute to with his camper for a while. But he was back every weekend. Apparently he only got the job by agreeing to work for less than what the job would normally pay. So he could move there permanently as soon as he got the ok from his probation officer. Which said officer didn't make easy I heard. I don't know the red tape of it. But he managed to pull it off. He can't leave the state. But he could still move to another county it seems. He's probably renting a space in a trailer park right now or something. And maybe he's back to doing his side hustle of hauling trash for people.
Before leaving town, my brother showed up outside my house to give me the double middle finger and dance around like a monkey while cursing at me in the street when he knew I was watching from the window. I guess it was his stupid way of trying to get in a last laugh without breaking the law or something. But then I got an idea. I've heard plenty of people say to kill with kindness. So I tried it in my own way. I grabbed an unopened bottle of my favorite honey whisky from the pantry because I know my brother really loves that stuff too. Then I went outside and walked right up to him, and shoved the bottle into his hands. I think it was the last thing he expected me to do in the moment. And I know he'd NEVER willingly break a bottle of good booze. Especially when it's free. Then I told him to have a drink on me to start his new life. I could barely keep myself from laughing when I turned to walk away. When I looked at my CCTV footage later, he actually stood there looking really glum while just staring at the bottle, and then moped back to his truck.
And then he was gone. Off to start his new life as a career welder. My brother is a childish, narcissistic, misogynistic, asshole to an extreme degree. But he's actually damn good at welding. Both with steel and aluminum. Mostly self-taught too. It's practically his only real talent. He's even done basic forging and auto body work. I've seen him do shit with scrap metal I wish I could. But that's the only real compliment I can still say about him. Maybe he'll make a decent new life and career for himself doing metal work elsewhere. He's better off away from us, just like we're better off away from him. He deleted all his social media, and I assume blocked us on everything. Not that we'd bother to contact him. One of his few remaining pothead friends in town told me my brother wants to legally change his name when his probation ends. Knowing him, he'll likely do it.
Things are much more peaceful and far less dramatic without my entitled leech of a brother here. Some part of me missed him for a while. But he's just a terrible person. And the only one who's still missing him, is our mother. She's still kinda broken up about it. But dad has been unwavering that they did the right thing by disowning him. He made his own bed. Now he's lying in it. I doubt my brother will come back any time soon. And if he does, he will not be welcome.
Edit: Got home and cracked open a bag of salt & pepper pork rinds, and was half expecting hundreds of comments like last time. I'm thankful it wasn't. Still, I'm also thankful to everyone who gave their support. To answer some questions I got in comments and DMS. I've got cameras inside and outside my house. Beanpole and Sara are still dating. But they've put off moving in together for now. My niece is doing good. But says she has no daddy anymore. My brother was barely a father to her anyway. Yes I know it was a bit much giving a known alcoholic a bottle of booze. And good booze at that. But I knew he wouldn't be able to drink it for months anyway. Which is why I was trying so hard to hold back laughter when I gave it to him. Besides, he's just gonna drink like a fish on his own dime when his court ordered sober time runs out.
I'm hoping this is the last post about current antics involving my brother. Maybe I'll tell other past stories about him. Or the story of my cheating ex. Still couldn't bring myself to post that. I typed it out and everything. But I guess it still ate at me because I really liked that woman. And yeah, this situation with my brother eats at me too. But he's toxic. And I'm better off without him in my life anymore.

2024.05.17 07:23 SteelMoonSpur Infinite looter with huge stat descriptions

Would you be willing to share how you first became aware of 30 Rock?
Watched from the beginnings - NBC preview probably?
Promo for show premiere on nbc
Iā€™m old! Watched that shit when it premiered
I was first aware when the news hit that Tina Fey was developing a show with Loren Michaels that would star her and Rachel Dratch.
My brother, who has the best taste in all things, recommended it to me.
On tv
watched w parents when it was first airing
my brother recommended it
On my Newark to Atlantic City Flight
I randomly chose it as something to watch on Netflix while I was running on the treadmill...after a couple episodes I was like WTF is this??!
Trailers on NBC
Donā€™t remember
Butt stuff
Watched the show during its original run on NBC. Now touch the peacock!
When it premiered on NBC
I saw the episode where Tracy makes the Jefferson trailer when I was like 12 or so and my friend told me it was funnier than family guy
Back in high school! The episode where Tracey says don't make me show you the back of my hand and there's a sticky note that says 'please be nice to me'
Buying episodes on iTunes back in 2009
during season two my friends were making jokes from the show
Thursday night line-up on NBC when it first aired

By being alive when the show premiered
I happened to click on it on Netflix and was excited by the lack of laugh track
Stumbled across it on NBC. F-ed up scheduling meant I missed episodes. Thank God for streaming. I've been through it at least 7 times
By watching television..?
I literally can't recall, but I've done dozens and dozens, if not hundreds, of complete rewatches.
Older brother introduced me to it
Tv
Was an acting major and was low key in love with Tina Fey.
Iā€™m a boomer (30) so I watched the show when it originally aired because I loved Tina Fey. My middle school crushes were Tina Fey, Gopher, and Kermit the Frog
NBC Thursday nights, we peacock comedy
I was super broke in my early 20s with no access to broadcast TV, but just got a Roku and Netflix - and there was the glory that is 30 Rock. It was my comfort show while dealing with my now ex-husband being deployed while my kids were very young. It was my comfort show during my divorce (and for my older kids, too). It will always be my favorite show of all time.
When it was on Tv I watched it.

It was on NBC Thursday night, their comedy night. I always watched.
When I was a kid, my parents watched the office when it was on right before 30 Rock. They didnā€™t watch 30 Rock, but theyā€™d leave the TV on for background noise. 30 rock came on after bedtime for me, but I was a curious and devious 9-year-old, so I would sneak out of bed and watch the living room tv from the upstairs landing until I got caught. The furthest I ever got into an episode was about 10 minutes and I always wanted to watch more of the show. As an adult, I finally got the chance to watch full episodes, and Iā€™ve watched the series through multiple times since.
The show started when I was in high school and my friends loved it. That's how I knew about it, but I didn't actually watch it until a couple years after college when I saw it on Netflix.

I was doing a study abroad program in the South of France and was frantically torrenting any American show I could because of the homesickness. I watched the first episode of season 1 and was booked before she had finished giving away all the hot dogs. Binged through all of the first season (I'm originally from the Cleveland area, so all of the Cleveland positivity toward the end had me giddy!) and then season 2 began and I faithfully got the episode every week... Then the writers strike happened :(
I watched the first season AT LEAST 25 times through before I came back to the USA. And several dozen more times (plus all the other seasons) since!

2024.05.17 01:23 AudraOnReddit Survivor Season 27 Blood v Water

Just finished Season 27. Been watching from the beginning, in order.
Curious to hear what other people think about this season (no spoilers for subsequent seasons, pleeeease.)
I'll start at the end because it was maybe the best tribal council I'd ever seen. All three finalists made good speeches. The jury asked good questions. I went into FTC assuming it was a runaway for Tyson, but after hearing each finalist's speech, I felt as though each one of them would have been a deserving winning, and the runners-up might have won if they were up against lesser contestants from episodes past.
I started w/that because Blood v Water is third from the bottom for me. I didn't like a lot of the emotional "tough decisions" which were the point of this season. I'm not a mom, nor did I know my mom, so all the Ciera-Laura stuff was boring (at best.) But I totally get why others might have liked those bits.
Here are some of my thoughts:
Gervase - I was so glad to see him back! I loved Season 1, and when I read about it, I'd read that Gervase had been trying to make alliances but the young guy(s) didn't want to form alliances. So, he was kind of SOL. We didn't see any of that. He came across that season as just a jokester. I remember being impressed with his FTC speech because it was really good, and I was surprised because he'd seemed like just a goofball until he made that great speech while he was voting (about how Sue had no right to be so angry about Kelly's "betrayal.") He was so right. And I thought man, that guy is smarter than he seemed. So it was great to see him get another shot. I was glad he made it to the final 3. I agree with his FTC speech. I think he played a great game (except he was surprisingly bad in the first challenge.) I agree with everything he said at FTC.
Tyson - In his first season, I loved his sense of humor and his style. I think he's the funniest player ever (to "date", meaning to Ssn 27.) But my opinion of him sank when he was mean to that blonde girl in whatever season that was. The girl who had the flu (I was pissed that she came on the show with the flu. Can you imagine spending 10 yrs trying to get on the show, and then sitting on the boat next to someone who was hocking up phlegm and had a 100 degree fever?? But then I warmed to her because she was mentally so strong, and kept fighting, and I really liked her by the end. I forget her name. But Tyson told her to her face that she was "not smart enough" to something, something. And it was mean.
I always give the mean players a second chance, and hope that when they watch themselves they regret things like that. It's great to see returning players come back who have grown and become better. And Tyson did. He regretted being mean, and in his 2nd season he was not mean to anybody (that we saw.) So, when he came back a 3rd time I was happy. And I was really glad he won. I'd have been happy if it was either him or Tina. They're both great in different ways.
Monica - I liked some things about her. The best was her FTC speech. People kept asking her over and over to show her true self (she already had!) And I loved when she said, "Have you people never met a nice person before??" That's up there in my top 3 FTC speeches. I liked her husband, Brad, and I loved her relationship with him. They were sweet together. But I understand why people were saying she was annoying. I think she may be in the lower percentile of survivor contestants when it comes to IQ (along with Erik and Christina.) And that made some of her spiels annoying and caused her to bug people by talking too much about strategy. It was as if she wanted to prove that she was a great strategist. What she was great at were the physical challenges. Really impressive! She's a neat lady. Didn't deserve to win, but I'm glad she made it as far as she did.
Tina - I love Tina. She amazed back in Ssn 2 when she swam across a crocodile infested river in the middle of the night to find the can of rice that had floated away in the flood. Nobody else did anything like that. I wouldn't have gone in that river in the day time let alone in pitch blackness. And she found it! And then she stood on that post in the freezing weather above the water for over 10 hrs - that's nuts (in a good way.) And she impressed me again in this season. I was bummed when she got out, but it had to be her or Tyson because they were the biggest threats for best player in the end, and Tyson had immunity, so it had to be Tina. She always handles everything honestly and like a champ.
Katie - was someone I would like IRL, but, unfortunately, she was a little boring for Survivor and she was terrible at challenges. I was SO glad when her mom chose NOT to let her win on Redemption Island. If Tina'd let Katie win, I'd have wanted to barf. But I liked Tina and Katie's relationship a lot.
Which brings me to Ciera. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I couldn't stand Ciera. She sucked at challenges throughout the first half of the game, bringing her team down. And then her mom got voted out in a large part due to the fact that the returning players knew that Laura would never sacrifice her daughter for the team. And they thought Laura might have a shot at beating Brad at Redmptn. Isl. but I think that was the lesser of the reasons. So, Laura got voted out basically because of her relationship with her daughter, and then Ciera has the nerve to say, "My mom got voted out already. I'm still here. The fact is, I'm a better player than my mom." And then there was all that sappy shit with Ciera crying over voting out her mom. Ugh - I started fast-forwarding her parts. She seemed to me to have the mentality of a teenager who thinks they know it all, and thinks they're so much smarter than other people when they're not.
Laura B - She was really, really impressive in challenges and on Redemption Island. I wasn't too enamored with her in her 1st season mostly because of how she was with Shambo (who I loved.) But I'd be happy to see Laura again if she wasn't there with her daughter.
Rupert - I always love Rupert. His wife is sweet, too, and it was nice she got to play.
Candice - I don't know if I'm in the minority here. Probably. I can't stand Candice. I was stoked she got voted out first, and then bummed that I still had to listen to her on Redemption Island. Her plusses: she has a nice husband, and she doesn't say "no" when Survivor calls her after someone else backed out. Her image of her own self is highly inflated.
On the Wiki, I read a list of people who Survivor had asked to be on the show. Ah, I would have loved to have seen Earl again, and RC (loved her), and even Jerri (Another who I didn't like their first season, but they learned and grew.) Pleeeeease no more Candice.
Who am I forgetting?
Oh yeah. Colton. Strangely, I don't mind Colton. I didn't like when he was mean to Christina in his first season, but you can tell with him it's an act, and that it's coming from a place of insecurity. I believe he's a nicer person on the inside, and I believe he probably continued to grow. What I didn't like was how he curled up in the fetal position on his fiance's lap like a baby. That was just weird. And I don't mean because they were two men, I'd have felt the same way if Kat did that to Hayden.
Caleb. Just like everybody, I kept thinking, "Why would such a normal, likeable guy like Caleb get engaged to someone so different from himself? Someone who can't seem to stop himself from saying mean things about people and acting like a baby.
Kat - I was impressed with her mostly because she was yet another example of someone who watched themselves and grew. She was a lot calmer this time ā€¦ up until she got voted out. She lost me with her little meltdown about how her boyfriend was going to break up with her because she got voted out of Survivor. Ugh. And then the big question over whether he would switch with her or not. If she was a nice, level-headed person she would have right away said, ā€œDonā€™t even think about it, Hayden. You stay in this game.ā€ But she waited and they made a big, sappy scene about it ā€¦ I got the feeling she was testing him. Insecure. Blah.
Hayden ā€“ I liked him.
Aras ā€“ I didnā€™t remember him from his season. I had to rack my brain, and then I had a vague memory of thinking, ā€œOh yeah, I think I thought he deserved to win.ā€ But when I first saw him, I thought, ā€œThis is returning player?ā€
Vytas ā€“ I have a feeling heā€™ll be back. I really liked him a lot. Good, smart player.
All around, I didn't like the "Blood v Water" schtick ā€¦ but Tyson was great, Tina was great, Rupert, Vytas, and some others were good, and FTC was really good, so those things saved it from sinking to the bottom of my list.
