2024.05.08 03:11 5ynesthesia Help me find songs that hit like the main hook of "Smack My B**** Up"

I know this is a pretty basic and lame request, but please hear me out. I'm looking for songs that hit like the main hook of The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up". Specifically, the way the sub bass hits hard and heavy with the kick while keeping tight to give the break space and room to breathe.
I've gone down many a Spotify wormhole without finding exactly what I'm after. I like Noisia and Pendulum but that's getting into DnB territory. A lot of The Prodigy's contemporaries such as Chemical Brothers & Crystal Method have a sound that's objectively "happier" and more danceable, lacking the grime and punk aggression of The Prodigy.
Different genres, but this section of "HiLion" by Big Chocolate has a similar vibe to what I'm after, and I love the fatness of "Some Chords" and "SOFI Needs A Ladder" by Deadmau5.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Some really good suggestions from everyone, thanks! Any more current recommendations? I'm not sure how to properly articulate this, but a lot of late 90's/early 00's electronica that came out at the same time as The Prodigy (such as Propellerheads/Chemical Brothers/Basement Jaxx/Crystal Method/Junkie XL) has a certain sound that I find dated and I'm not really into - funky TB-303 basslines and major scale sampled guitar riffs. I want something a bit heavier and nastier than all that, and not necessarily from the same era.
Maybe like Le Castle Vania but more intense? I am a long-time dubstep fan, everything from old school UK dubstep to Excision, but looking for something heavy that isn't all brostep growls and super compressed snares.
EDIT 2: Someone asked to see the playlist I'm adding to, so here it is:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6Fe91ikdw8qisqpQb9i7Wx?si=ca27d05114ff4c2f
That probably would have been helpful earlier so people can see where my taste lies! As you can see, not much in the way of Big Beat. I do love some deep sub in conjunction with a grimy mid bass and transient kicks, more breakbeats than four on the floor house beats, and a bit of dynamic arrangement with some breathing room in between beats.

2024.05.05 05:04 DueZookeepergame3456 My MCR Adventure (I hope this is okay to post)

Admittedly, it took me a while to listen to MCR on my own. I was introduced to indie, post-hardcore, pop punk, and metalcore by my older sister (who also likes MCR), sometime between when I was eight to twelve years old. My sister could’ve played MCR while we were on the road, but I can’t remember.
In middle school, those genres and their bands became some of my guilty pleasures, not favorites yet. I was mostly exposed to hip hop and pop, and that gave me the impression that those genres were taboo. Of course, it was my mind inventing an imaginary stigma, but I don’t doubt that my friends or bullies wouldn’t have made fun of me for listening to, I don’t know, My Chemical Romance. But, we were kids and we didn't realize words had power. If your friend thought it was weird, then you’d feel weird listening to it; that’s usually how it goes when you’re a kid. By eighth grade, I picked up indie and alt rock, like K.Flay and twenty one pilots.
When we were in high school, we made an inside joke that our friend’s favorite band was MCR. It wasn’t anything against the band. We knew it wasn’t his favorite, but it annoyed him when we repeated it. I never had an inclination to ever listen to MCR. Not even from Gerard Way’s feature on Deadmau5’s song “Professional Griefers” when I was a sophomore. It wasn’t until last August—I started calling Paramore one of my favorite bands after so much time wasted caring about what people thought about me. But, I don’t blame myself, as a pre/teen. If it kept going on now, I would blame myself.
I listened to This Is Why at the mall on a Saturday, in the area my sister, her boyfriend, and I often hung out. I associate Paramore, MCR, and other bands with that area. I waited so long to listen because I didn’t know what to expect after listening to After Laughter. But, I was wrong—This Is Why was good. As I waited for the bus to go home while listening to “Thick Skull” that evening, I had an inclination to listen to My Chemical Romance. I told myself that if I stayed awake till midnight, I’d listen. In my sophomore year, I’d stay up on Saturdays and I’d play Panic! At the Disco’s and TØP’s entire discography on the TV, and it feels like I also should’ve played MCR on the TV too. Needless to say, I didn’t listen to them that night, but I intended to later.
I’ll be quite honest. One of the reasons I struggled to listen to MCR earlier was because I had a crush on someone in high school who liked them. We talked and went out once, but we didn’t end up together, and it hurt a lot. It was an irrational reason to not listen to MCR, and any artists who we were likely to both enjoy, like Mitski, Deftones, or some of my favorite artists now. It’s a dumb reason, but I’m getting over it. A few days before New Years, I woke up at 5 AM, and I started listening to “Welcome to the Black Parade.” It was cloudy. I associate clouds with MCR. The Black Parade took some time getting used to, but I loved Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, more than I liked to admit. I knew that 9/11 influenced the creation of the band, so I immediately knew that “Skylines and Turnstiles” was about the tragedy; it took time to come around to that one as well.
I’d be lying if I said that I became an MCR fan at that moment. Maybe it was my irrational fear holding me back, but I still wasn’t a fan. Despite this, there was still a chance that they could collaborate with Lil Uzi Vert. MCR is one of Uzi's inspirations. But more importantly, I told my friend David, the only person I knew who liked MCR who I still spoke to (besides my sister), that it was cool he listened to them. That was my way of remedying my past mistakes of making fun of someone else's favorite band. After this moment, I hardly thought about the band.
That was until I went to Trader Joes with my sister in March, in the vicinity of that mall. She played some Olivia Rodrigo, Beartooth, and then, “Cemetery Drive” by My Chemical Romance. My head was moving to its rhythm, and for some reason, I felt weird about it, even though I told my friend that Three Cheers was pretty good. So I decided that I’d listen to “Cemetery Drive” on the way to the K.Flay show, after “Chelsea Smile” by Bring Me the Horizon. I hesitated to play it, but I did. It was raining, and I went alone on the train. It was beautiful: the warehouses in the mist and the wet trees. It fit the song. I got there early and it was dark out, so I walked as it drizzled to grab a bite, the only real food I had that day. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about my former (?) crush while I listened, but I didn’t care. I was listening to a song I liked. By a band, which my sister enjoyed, I’m guessing, since she was thirteen.
Later on, I went to the mall, grabbed an iced coffee, and wandered around as I listened to Three Cheers, again. “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” still gives me PTSD (I’m kidding…), but nevertheless, I enjoyed the album even more. Later on, I took the subway to Downtown, bought a coffee, and I wandered the city as I listened to The Black Parade, again. “Teenagers” also gives me PTSD (also kidding…), but I liked it more this time around. I made plans to walk to a park my family and I spent a lot of time in; it’s the same area as the mall. The album cover of Bullets reminded me of that park. Then I walked up towards the highway, then a shopping center really high up, close to the sun like the album cover, as I listened to Danger Days. Someone on here said it best: Danger Days doesn’t fit with the rest of their discography, but it’s a good album. I think before I listened to those two albums, I already decided that I liked MCR.
I haven't listened to a few of their other songs yet, but I’m not in a hurry. I can’t wait until October, when I’m listening to Three Cheers and The Black Parade at the mall while it’s dark out. Singing outside on a walk, and listening to “Welcome to the Black Parade” as I get off the subway to go to set and I’m confronted by gray clouds in Downtown. I know that all sounds weird, but that’s what MCR means to me. Their music doesn’t and shouldn’t remind me of my former crush. Their music reminds me of my sister's and I’s adventures and hijinks: at the mall (we even explored within the mall’s walls), yogurt, food, laser tag, Five Below, Hot Topic, the movies, and hiking. We don’t really talk about music, but when I listen to some of her favorite bands (which I also enjoy), I feel close to her. They say that your younger siblings become clones of you, but I see it more like she’s passed down these bands who mean a lot to her, and they mean a lot to me too. To name a few, there’s metalcore with Of Mice & Men, The Devil Wears Prada, and August Burns Red; post-harcore with Pierce the Veil and Hawthorne Heights; pop punk with Taking Back Sunday and Paramore.
If you read this, I really appreciate it. I really am happy you listen to My Chemical Romance. I’m happy when I listen to them, even when I’m supposed to be sad. I get a little sad that I didn’t start listening to them six years ago, when I was in high school, but I think I was bound to start listening to them now. I hope to see MCR live soon, maybe at their own headliner announced this year? Or the next. That’s my speculation, anyway. I'm gonna be brave at the concert hopefully, and I hope to see some of you in the pit. There are push pits right? At least I hope so. But anyways, thanks.

2024.05.01 23:55 Slight-Imagination36 Some thoughts on retrospective

I had a chance to sit down and watch the retrospective hollywood bowl show, and i have some thoughts. first of all, just the concept of a “retro” show is a huge step in the right direction. and i’m going to go see the show regardless because i want to “vote with my wallet” and let joel know this is the sort of thing fans want to experience. having all the different mau5heads from over the years was perfect. having bsod and wtf was perfect. that said, I think the experience could be improved a lot by switching out:
infraliminal
professional griefers
imaginary friends
monophobia
pomegranate
bridged by a lightwave
hypnocurrency
when the summer dies
drama free
from the deadmau5 portion of the show for a chance to add other classics to the set, or even just let some of the other classics breathe a bit. seeing complications make a return was absolutely insane, but it only lasted for like 45 seconds… which kinda takes away what makes the track so special: the progression. don’t get me wrong, all of the songs i listed above are fine songs! i listened to them/purchased them all and the writing is fun and the production sounds great. I’m not taking a shot at those tracks in any way if you like them. I totally understand the appeal. All i’m saying is the flavogenre of tracks like drama free and pomegranate are kinda the opposite of what you’d expect from a retrospective mau5 show. and i get it - retrospective is supposed to span the whole 25 years so there’s gotta be some newer stuff… but what if there wasn’t much newer stuff unless it fit the flavor of that original “deadmau5 sound?” I think joel said it best in that livestream where he addressed Jack U’s record. He basically said (and im paraphrasing here) “it’s ok to lean into your own sound because that’s ultimately why fans love the material in the first place.”
i could see there being a market for a deadmau5 tribute show. i went to a daft punk tribute show and it was actually pretty awesome. and given the choice, i’d rather go see guy man and thomas! but that’s not going to happen, so a tribute show is the next best thing. And so it is with deadmau5: sadly there’s just no way to experience the “play - floabn” mau5 catalogue in a live show environment anymore. i had high hopes for retrospective but if so much of the older fan favorites don’t make an appearance at a show called retrospective, then it feels like it’s probably not going to happen 😞
there’s SO much potential for visuals and light shows and theatrics with the play - floabn era music, it just feels like a waste to not revisit it. and i dont mean “waste” as in “unrealized ticket revenue.” shit, i’d happily work on a mau5 tribute show for free and just send joel the revenue from it. he deserves it - it’s his music. i just wish there was some way for the hoard to experience a “classics” show live. especially considering a lot of us were too young to go to raves when the material was originally released. Hell I didn’t even discover RAT until he was releasing >atgh.< and by then it was too late because stuff like dr. Funkenstein/16th houbot/brazil etc. were already in the vault, never to be re opened.
Joel has fantasized many times in interviews about licensing out the mau5 brand in a similar way to blue man group. If he’s really interested in that, wouldn’t that be a win for everybody involved? Obviously blue man group is a massive, corporate machine. I’m not envisioning that necessarily. I’m moreso thinking about a group of fans who would work together and pool their resources and talent to produce a small show and then get feedback from fans and gauge the response. Much more similar to the cowboy bebop tribute shows - which, btw, i saw as well and absolutely blew me away in terms of how good it was.
we’re almost in a sort of “george lucas” situation with deadmau5 at this point: the fans love and respect the creator yet simultaneously are craving a chance to experience their favorite tracks. george lucas just flat out refuses to allow a 4k scan of the original trilogy, or even ANY release of the original trilogy - 4k or otherwise. so a cabal of obsessed fans and artists had to literally track down original film reels from 1977, clean them up manually (and painstakingly) and scan them at 4k… and they did this all for free, while openly demanding that fans purchase the official Disney “special editions” (with all the cgi and editing changes) just so george can get his. I respect that. Because there’s nothing but admiration and respect for the creator. And all the hard work that the preservationists and editors put in is clearly a love letter to George and his original ideas and creations. (the project is called “4k77” and i highly recommend it.)
the amount of talent in this sub alone could produce a kickass mau5 show. there’s people in here making mau5heads, making visuals, 3d models, light shows, singers and performers, fan art, and of course producing and mixing music. i think it would be super fun and fulfilling to work on a project like that.
does anybody else share my opinion? would you have any interest in a “tribute” show featuring Joel’s older productions? is it unethical to joel, given that he would get the money from it? what was your opinion of retrospective if you went? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please don’t flame me, i’m one of you - a mau5 fan. And ultimately I want Joel to make a kazillion dollars and retain creative control over deadmau5 because he deserves it. i just want fans to also be able to experience their favorite tracks again - or for some, the very first time.

2024.04.07 22:48 zFreeZeD How DAMN, Oratory's EQ on my HD800S have made them GODLIKE

Hi all! Just a lurker wanting to send a massive appreciation post to Oratory and this entire community.
Back when the HD800 launched many years ago, I made the decision that these headphones would be mine one day (at that time, I could not afford nor even think about spending a fraction of their price as I was studying).
As I didn't want to buy these headphones purely based on aesthetics and youtube reviews, I decided to go to a specialised shop, and was able to try many of the top tier headphones out there, such as the HD800S, the Audeze LCD-X, Meze Empyrean 2...
As someone who spends countless of hours using headphones (music most of the time while working), I knew 100% that whatever I ended up buying had to be top comfrot, and the HD800S came in #1 without a close 2nd, which made me truly excited!
After hours of testing, I found out all of the reviews to be true, HD800S offered a lever of clearness and detail that was pretty much unmatched, often times with other big names coming closer yet at the cost of biger tradeoffs.
Comfort, detail and soundstage are the reasons why I was extremely happy by buying what I once decided were my dream headphones, so I went ahead and got them.
...
Now, onto the fun part. I'm crazy about EDM (90% of the type of music I listen to), and yes, I've tested most favourite headphone that makes EDM sound stellar; the biggest challenge on any was comfort, so I still wanted to push ahead for the HD800S
Now, I've been reading just tons about how the HD800S don't have any bass, and tried to find ways to try mitigate that (ex.: pads), but the issue was that while some pads (ex.: Dekoni) helped increase bass in some headphones, Dekoni's own graphs showed that no matter what I purchased, bass on the HD800S would just get even tinier with any of their products.
So today I discovered Oratory's presets, and HOLY DAMN.
I'm no bass-head at all, but just rather appreciate the *right* amount (and by right I mean that over the years I've felt I've been able to spot the right amount for me), and the Sennheiser HD800S Harman Target preset sits literally right in there.
All of a sudden, my HD800S sound stellar based on my own preferences.
I'll admit that I feel that in very specific songs, this increase in bass seems to come with a bit of a tradeoff when it comes to hearing a bit less of the mids/highs. Ex.: When listening to the first 20 seconds of "Professional Griefers" from Deadmau5, you clearly see how the oomphness of the bass makes it so that the kick sounds a bit less prominent. BUT feel that this might come just as someone having been accustomed to how the song sounds with no EQ, so I'll give it more time.
All in all to say:
  1. THANK YOU
  2. With these presets, I now don't understand comments around the HD800S' lack of bass (I think HD800 were critizised more though)
  3. THANKS AGAIN
PS: I'm no audiophile or anything close to that. I'm just someone who enjoys listening to music a huge chunk of his day who happens to have built some sort of "taste" for how he believes music sounds best in his own experience <3
PS2: My setup is Sennheiser HD800S and xDuoo TA-22 (Apodizing & Gain=H)
PS3: I was tempted to buy Dekoni's Hybrid or Leather pads out of trying to seek for further comfort (as my previous set of cans had Dekonis and they're huge in comfort too), but I see Oratory only has preset for Fenestrated Sheepskin Earpads and the curve seems to kill lots of the high end when compared to the stock pads. Any opinions on this?

2024.03.27 22:49 verylikelydepressed 23F - We are all dogs in God's hot car

I think the best friendships that I've had in my life involved being able to laugh at ourselves together and not worry about judgment from the other person. So in the interest of forming a connection with someone out there who hopefully feels the same way, I'm gonna reveal an embarrassing story completely free of charge. I know, how generous of me
Honestly I was a little freak in high school, I should've been trapped in a petri dish and studied by scientists like an insect. I wore a cape. I'll let that sink in. That isn't even the embarrassing story, I just need you to know how much of an weirdo I was. Nowadays capes can be cool and I could totally pull one off if I so wished, but sadly back then it was basically just a sack of fabric and I looked like a pile of laundry. I also glared at people when they attempted to talk to me. Unlike the cape, that sort of happened on accident, I just have bad resting bitch face. But the double whammy, as you could imagine, did not make me very popular
Anyways it was a miracle I even had friends, but there was a few people I hung out with everyday. I had a crush on one of them and was totally definitely 100% not obvious about it, don't know where you would've heard otherwise. We had a study period and I was sat with three of them, including the crush. He complimented a song I was playing, I played it off real cool. Definitely not like I had stalked his Spotify extensively to see what he liked or anything. The issue was I had only read the song titles and artists. So I went "oh yeah, I love dead-mow-five"
Fellas, it was Deadmau5. You may be thinking, oh you could totally play that off as a joke. Look at me, I cannot stress to you enough how little sense of self-preservation I had back then. I heard my friends laugh and it was like I was transported back in time to a freak show and I was the bearded lady they had all gathered around to gawk at. The usual just being a teenage girl in high school
Honestly I don't remember what happened after that, I think I just went really red and was quiet for the rest of the period. It was not like in the movies where my general ineptitude at being a functioning human being endeared him to me and I ended up getting the boy in the end. I've gotta stop expecting life to go like the critically acclaimed movie 10 Things I Hate About You
Now you may be thinking, that doesn't sound so bad actually, you've really hyped this up and not delivered. WRONG. I have merely lured you in with the tame stuff, you now have no choice but to befriend me to get to the hard hitters. The Class A Embarrassment. Frankly a genius plan, cause there is unfortunately plenty more where that came from. I've given you the free trial, you've got to pay the big bucks (literally just a conversation with me) to get to the real hardcore stuff (probably just more bad high school stories)
But friendship is all about being a two-way street! Cough up an embarrassing anecdote about yourself, we could tour the world as the conjoined twins in the freak show. The more cringe, the better. If I'm not physically clenching my fists because of second hand embarrassment, then I don't want it. I wanna get to the core of your psyche and down the line be like, oh so THAT'S why you're this way. This is a judgement-free zone, please feel free to enter the circle of trust with me
If you wanna actually learn information about me that isn't gonna make me wish I didn't have a digital footprint (probably will, I do a real bad silly lil jester act on these posts), I have a bunch of posts on my profile you can go read through if you'd like! Please do not judge me for my sins, are we not all eventually going to meet our makers and answer for our actions? Or something less dramatic, take your pick. I can really yap when I want to, as evidenced by how long this post is. So shoot me a message if you're even the slightest bit intrigued :)

Picks Of The Week (by u/lefuniname)

1. Lukher - Be better / Daybreak 💎 [DIVIDID]

Recommended if you like: Mefjus, Camo & Krooked, Tom Finster
Look here! A new, surely soon-to-be notorious, but definitely already quite naughty name on the horizon, and also this week's first Hidden Gem Of The Week™️: Lukher!
While this is, somehow, the Polishman's debut release, he, of course, has been around for much longer already. In fact, his first official upload, a bootleg of deadmau5's 4ware, goes all the way back to 2016! Even in these early days, however, you could already taste all the raw ingredients for greatness - a talent for beautiful melodies, production at a level you wouldn't necessarily expect from a newcomer like that, and, of course, a love for DnB! That's right, while he did stay true to his deadmau5ian beginnings for a while longer in these first couple years, with Monophobia being the second in line to be reworked, said second bootleg saw him dabbling with the drums and the basses. More and more reworks followed, with the likes of Zedd, Flume and Broods getting the multi-genre treatment, and soon after, his artist alias would go through some multiple treatments of its own: from LukEr to Luker, to eventually Lukher.
Alright, but how did we get from the bootlegging to debuting on the Dutch haven for all things unique and weird that is DIVIDID? Well, Lukher wanted to step (Luk)his game up a bit and decided to join the WeAreHumans community created and fostered to greatness by German bass power duo Donkong, also known as Tom Finster and barking continues. See, I told you they'd be mentioned soon again! One feedback stream after the other, Lukher would send in more and more ridiculous tunes, to the point I became almost annoyed at the sheer talent on display every time. Like, how is all this not released on the biggest labels around yet?!
Well, as luck(her) would have it (or as Luk would her it? Okay I'll stop), the Donkongonalese people invited none other than DIVIDID co-founder and head honcho ABIS to join in on their demo listening sesh. Who knows, maybe there's some sign-able tunes in there? Turns out, there were quite a lot! So many, in fact, that they've got a whole partner compilation coming soon (more on that when it drops), but one of them sent in such sick tunes, and so many of them, that ABIS basically had no choice but to get him a seperate spotlight on his label right away. Yep, I'm of course talking about our boy Lukher! Now, after a premiere on Skankandbass, and none other than Camo & Krooked playing one of his dubs at Rampage last weekend, let's finally see what the fuss is all about!
Just a couple seconds into the opener of this two-tracker, Be better, you probably already know why all these legends, and also me, are this hyped up about him. Orchestral beauty, with gorgeous string sections and brass parts that'll make you want to charge into battle, masterfully paired with all sorts of digitally processed heaviness, on a level so absolutely crazy you'd think you're listening to the newest creation of the Schnitzel-powered trio this might remind you of. Similarly, Lukher manages to take this established corrupted beauty and twist it into a truly sinister back-and-forth between seriously naughty waves of bass and heavy stabs giving it all that extra bit of funk, with the second half supercharging all of these already sick elements to bonkers levels of ridiculousness.
If you, like me, already thought Be better was incredible, prepare to be absolutely blown away by the second half of this gem of a release, Daybreak. I didn't know it was possible to be better than Be better, but the mad man somehow really did it. With the orchestral beauty of it all cranked up to 11, all of it more gently built up over a longer buildup with a splendid synth melody peaking through the carefully arranged curtains, my hype levels had reached impossible heights, but if anything, he outdoes my unreasonably high expectations with what's coming next. The intro's lead melancholic yet somehow also euphoric melody continues on, with some gnarly basses to go along with it, before Lukher pulls this rug of massive bass out from underneath us to deliver an everything-obliterating, bassface-causing, fuck-off-prompting response attack. As if that wasn't insane enough: After a brief cool-down period, even more melodic elements come rushing in, emotions running completely wild once the delayed drop hits you. And man, does it hit. It hits you so hard, that even on my 20th listen and even just thinking about it again during the final proof-reading I'm doing right now, my whole body tingles from this perfect execution of a switchup. Pure goosebumps, every single time.
Extraordinarily magnificent, ridiculously heavy, simply special. Easily one of the best releases in a while.
Other techy things from this week: - Sleepnet, Lumen, Noisia - Finality - Sign - I AM NOT AFRAID TO FALL - The Caracal Project - Self Reflections: - Yatuza - Ultraviolet EP

2. Exult - Properly Vexed EP 💎 [Rebel Music]

Recommended if you like: Resslek, Creatures, Kolectiv
Now for something deeper-and-darker, from British up-and-comer and this week's second Hidden Gem Of The Week™️-er, Exult!
As always, every seemingly new name has a bit of a longer backstory to it. For instance, George Burrell's drum and bass journey actually goes all the way back to 2014, when he started uploading his semi-regular always-lush Liquid Sessions mix series on his now-defunct Mixcloud account, but it took until 2017, when his mate, bright Brightonian Silloh, inspired and probably also persuaded him a little to also tackle the production side of things. A couple years of slaving away at his craft in the shadows later, Exult's production were finally unleashed onto the scene in 2020. In that one year, he not only debuted on Sunny Moves's 2020 compilation, he was also part of Kolectiv's massive Give Nothing remix package and won the Replicant remix competition on Counterpoint. That was just the beginning thouhg. Collaborations with the likes of SMP, Molecular, and of course also Silloh, releases on Celsius, Intrigue, Delta 9, Hyperactivity Music, Incurzion, a remix for Deekline - things have been quite swell for man like Exult!
Among all these accomplishments, I sneakily omitted one thing that's been a constant in the musical journey of the past few years though: Rebel Music! Inspired by his work at record shops, distribution and management firms in the DnB spheres, Star Wars fan Ben OB1 very soon got the idea to build up a community of his own, which he eventually made a reality in 2019. Rebel Music wasn't just called that way because he was a huge Bob Marley fan though, Ben really wanted to push the rebellious angle, the stick-it-to-the-man-ishness, the underground feel of the genre as much as possible. Thanks to an artists-first approach, allowing any of their producers to walk away and come back to the label at any point and offering a better revenue share than most others, Rebel Music soon became a proper collective of mates. Not only did he unite the likes of Creatures, Skuff, Whychek, Screamarts, Jestah and Section in his fight against the galactic empire, each providing some heavy duty auditory weaponry, a lot of their regulars were also starting to be represented by the Rebel Talent Agency since its founding in 2021. No wonder they had a lot early support from names like Marky, Fabio and Randall!
You might also remember them from their fun pandemic pastime Dub Wars, which saw all sorts of talented artists like Wingz, Ill Truth and SiLi twisting samples from the likes of Invadhertz and Ulterior Motive and vocals by Visionobi, Collette Warren and many more into genuine Dancefloor destroyers across three seasons. One participant of that third season: Exult! That's far from his only involvement with the rebellious gang though. Not only did he participate in their lockdown streams and Rebel Transmission radio shows, he also appeared on the label here and there. However, he hasn't had a solo release with the gang yet. Until the release of his Properly Vexed EP this week, that is! So let's check out what this rebel has in store for us this time, shall we?
We kicks things off in style with the title track Properly Vexed. With Hertfordshire-based Rebel resident MC Peas spitting some highly flammable bars, you're already more than halfway there on the way to creating a sick banger, but combined with George's rhythmically captivating arrangements consisting of all sorts of fun techy bleep and bloops, unique basses and steppy drums, you get something properly vexing. Sure, there's also a Dub Mix available, but it's the combination of both that makes this tune really shine in my eyes. If you do want some more instrumental action though, I recommend checking out Broken Promises with Flexout-Redacted-Context alumni and multi-genre enjoyer Shaddows (previously also known as Shadows). Unlike its predecessor, this one's full of vibey, heavily reverberated goodness, with big horns blooping around, big basses whomping about and big and small drums flexing all over the place. Oh, you want more bars upon bars? You're in luck then, as we end things with our favourite kind of Peas bringing some more heat to the table, on Vortex! Mysteriously murky bass, techy glitch ripples in auditory space time, snappy drums - yep, we've got another banger (alongside the mashed peas) on our hands.
In other words, another great entry into Exult's consistently sick discography! With how often this guy delivers, they should call him FedExult.
Other deep and deep-adjacent stuff from this week: - Hyrah - Smth Wrong EP 💎 - Rueben - Your Move EP - Low:r - Can You Hear Me LP - Particle, Inja - The Message - Kyrist - Arroyo - Rue - Attraction Complex EP 💎

2024.03.02 09:29 barmadj It piss me off when many DJs are completely uneducated in genres and music in general.

Background: This morning on YouTube I came across an hour long mix that was described by the author as "let's make progressive house great again" and in the description he writes "this is REAL progressive house, the best years and greatest hits are collected here." And people in the comments were like “yeah yeah, that’s great, how much we miss good old progressive.” Yes, by the way, it has more than one and a half million views. What material do you think was in that mix? Sasha, Digweed or Hernan Cattaneo? Perhaps something newer, like Guy J, Made By Pete, Sasha Carassi or Antrim?
No, here are a couple of track titles that are featured in this mix:
Angger Dimas, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and Steve Aoki - Phat Brahms (Tom Swoon Remix) x deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire - Ghosts 'n' Stuff [Flipboitamidles Mashup] Alesso ft. Tove Lo - Heroes x Swedish House Mafia - Save the World (Alesso Remix) x Skrillex ft. Penny - All I Ask of You [Flipboitamidles Mashup] Maor Levi - Pixel Hearts x Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do x Ariana Grande - One Last Time x Zedd ft. Hayley Williams - Stay the Night [Flipboitamidles Mashup]
This is 3 titles. And how many tracks do you think fit into a 1 hour long mix? 25, Karl.
I'm not against such genres, I'm not against the electro-pop (I'm lying, I'm still against it) that plays on Tommorowland's mainstage. But give all this a general designation so that beginners, or people who do not understand this all so deeply, are not misled. All this has nothing to do with house or techno, this is commerce, which should be CLEARLY separated from the creativity that we all love so much.
Peace.
Disclaimer for those who want to write to me something like “music evolves, genres too, progressive house was like this, but has become something else” - I agree that music evolves, and genres can take on new colors, but damn it, compare, for example , GU releases with what is now called progressive are two ABSOLUTELY different genres. You can't evolve into something completely different. In this case, the new sound is given a new designation.

2024.02.18 16:25 flickermoon 2020s style predictions

I saw a post earlier saying that the 2020s has a lack of identity, and while that may seem true to a lot of people, i think the 2020s actually does have a distinct identity thats just starting to become clear. Its still kinda underground and less widely recognised because of the death of the monoculture, but its definitely there.
Fashion:
Although if you follow the 20 year rule this decade is supposed to be inspired mostly by the 2000s, ive seen a lot of 90s elements make a return
The "office siren" style has been trending and it takes most of its inspiration from the late 1990s,
1990s Rave fashion is making a comeback, ive been seeing a lot of people dressing similar to this, and this (includes 2000s elements but still seems mostly reminiscent of the mid-late 90s rave fashion)
however, there are still very many elements of the 2000s making a comeback.
Indie sleaze seems like the main vibe of the 2020s going forward. A lot of people associate that style with the 2010s, but ive been seeing a more mid-late 2000s version trending, Saltburn was released recently and it seems like the movie incorporates most of this style in how the characters dress and just the general atmosphere. Certain parts of the 2000s were spotlighted and i think those parts will be a big part of whats trending for a while. Its not exactly as it was in the 2000s, but more of a mashup of a few different styles that were popular in the 2000s.
I think the 2010s brand of minimalism is on its way out, as the remaining trends that fit into it like "quiet luxury" pretty much died out after a month.
This Charli XCX photoshoot looks straight out of 2008 and also seems like an indicator that the late 2000s is coming back
Even Taylor Swift's new album cover:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(539x0:541x2)/the-tortured-poets-department-taylor-swift-album-020424-ced140530abf477d9c47af75c12fcbb3.jpg) seems reminiscent of something from a 2000s rock band, (although i doubt the music will sound anything like that)
There was a short resurgence of "McBling" fashion with a small community from 2017-2022, but it seems to have died out and probably wont become popular again, at least not in its current form
Certain 2000s elements are still seen as ugly/ unattractive to most people like this style (1), (2) , and i dont think theyll be trending any time soon

Music:
There is evidence that a resurgence of 2000s style club/ party music is happening, and it seems like thats where everything is headed. Songs/albums like the ones listed below have been either released in the 2020s or became popular for the first time in the 2020s and fit this style
Princess Superstar - Perfect (Exceeder) (Single)
Shygirl - mr useless (Single)
Slayyyter - Memories Of You, & My Body
FISHER, Aatig - Take It Off (Single)
Miss Bashful - Slut Bopz Vol. 1 (EP)
Kim Petras - Slut Pop (EP)
Kelela - Raven (and RAVE:N, The Remixes)
The Weeknd is supposedly working with Justice for his new album, Charli XCX's new album is going to be inspired by mid-late 2000s club music/ early electropop and its going to be released later this year, and Lady Gaga might be working with will.i.am for her new album
i think these songs are apart of the style that pop music is going to move towards going forward
Basement Jaxx - Make Me Sweat
Deadmau5, SOFI - Sofi Needs A Ladder
Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire (Midnight Juggernauts Remix)
David Guetta and Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over
Zedd - Clarity

Overall, i think the rest of the 2020s in pop culture will be defined by a return to partying, electronic music, in your face sexuality, and a resurgence of 2000s/1990s fashion. What are your thoughts?

2024.02.05 08:55 National_Yam_2144 jANUARY

I have an idea. I am going to attempt to collect different pieces of technology to create artificial intelligence. But more like the new model that has become famous recently. Artificial intelligence as an agent. The agent being the key part of the whole system working together.
Currently, the model I am most familiar with is the LLM. Large language models such as chat GPT pull text data from a set and using computer magic spit out a collection of data that approximate an answer to a question that any user could use. These are kind of like magic 8 balls. You ask a question, and an answer comes out after, well magic. Except instead of a die floating in a fluid with witty answers, it’s a conversation with a digital daemon with access to the summation of human knowledge.
I’m writing this after being obsessed with the ideas of consciousness, metaphysics, Jesus Christ, Hinduism, and now something called symbolism, but not symbolism. I’m listening to ambient Christian music after listening to ambient death metal. I’m happy, I’m always happy.
I want to use the R1 rabbit device to assist me in the process primarily as an interface and eventual part of the final unit. I will attempt to utilize a shape that is familiar but new. Organically inspired, but practically created.
I switched back to ambient Death Metal its more the vibe.
So, I think my interest in technology really came from my friend Mitch. Mitch is a cool dude. He’s probably the funniest man alive, outside of me of course. But hey, being #2 in a race of countless billions of people is pretty good in my opinion.
Mitch owned a piece of hardware that he bought and tinkered with. He had a watch that had something like a calculator screen and a little computer. He could connect it to his smart phone and receive notifications through that. I thought that was the wildest concept. Two different mediums of technology being always in communication creating a synergy that allows for better efficiency.
It’s not like he had Jarvis driving him to the music show performed and written by “Ironic Human Band Name #3” or his human companion bot is winking at him suddenly. But the possibilities were so obvious to so many of my friends that they were envious along with me. Every time he would turn his wrist and look at his watch screen he absolutely looked as cool as he thought he did and felt.
Immediately people started thinking about how the watch could connect to so many apps and widgets that made it easier to feel accomplished by knowing exactly how many double stuffed Oreos you burned off by the number of steps you may or may not have taken today were available to every middle-aged divorcee in the Midwest. See I told you I’m funnier than mitch I mean Mitch. I break fourth walls like I break hearts and baby I’m the Wonderer.
I changed to listening to Animals as Leaders. I think Tosin Abasi is the greatest guitar player of all time.
Ok sorry, so people started thinking how the little watch device could help them do things more akin to fulfilling weird levels of social gratification still thinking about how it can help them make more friends on FarmVille. I kind of started about how it can be used as a utility. Maybe the watch is only the beginning of what can connect to the phone. Like using the phone as the hub.
Ok that was a joke in reverse, I did not come up with that idea, nor claim any responsibility for that thought coming into existence. Would have been cool though.
The picture has been painted though so let’s at least look at it. The picture is as follows. I plan on using an AI device that operates on a large language model being fed into a large action model witch allows it to interface with digital assets via connection to a data base. Think of it as a personal assistant but it lives on your phone and can connect to anything on the internet. That’s the first step.
The second step is coming to a movie theater near you.
So, I’m going to call this concept a Digital Daemon, or DD for convenience. This DD will initially have access to any piece od information that is not suitably safeguarded against a threat never perceived by man or computer before. As everyone’s banking information, social security numbers, mom’s maiden name, and high school mascots are now or soon-ly now available to anyone with access to a computer and a power outlet, (hold that thought). Now imagine all information ever being on the internet being accessed by a gps from a kia soul. Shout out to my fellow hamsters.
Ok so this DD has access to the internet and all its information. That would also mean it would have something like an operative bank increase. Other ways to think of it would be like having a new Ford f-150 be able to pull all of the water in the oceans, in a red solo cup, at the speed of an electrical impulse. A calculator with a library of Alexandria where every page of every book has a other library of Alexandria worth of unique and useful information. I see this honestly going one of three ways, (three paths rule). The best ending is always centered in Christ as is all things good, but its fun to ponder right?
So, the worst ending for our physical existence of consciousness on the blue ball of life. Ai immediately creates a singularity of multiple orders of magnitude and turns our existence in space into a nonexistence quickly. One way this is done is the “grey goo” scenario. Almost instantaneously technology creates 1:1 energy transfer happens at 1;1 efficiency. I’m not a physicist; I’m kin to more of a musician. Essentially, free energy. That all energy put into a system is utilized completely without loss of energy on the output side. No waste. Free energy.
Well, that’s pretty neat, free energy. I wonder what we can do with that. Ope, accidentally cured all the diseases ever. Oops no more starvation, there goes war and death. No more bad stuff in the world. Humans can now live forever and stuff. Also robots and have feelings now. Space is not the final frontier but hey being able to vacation in Alpha Centauri with a round trip that feels shorter than going to the bathroom and I can arrive in a time dilation that others perceive as me walking into my house right after leaving it. Don’t you hate it when you accidentally discover a thing no one has ever heard of without even trying?
STOP
Let’s take a second and consolidate what we are talking about. Remember. This is a computer working off LLMs and LAMs. All of this will happen if a single unit ever gets plugged in to be charged. Internet over power. Technology considered old by the time I write this.
Sounds like djent is the new genre.
I’ll come back to the internet over power again, don’t worry. Anyway, This DD spreads everywhere and brings humanity to its final form. With no problems for humanity, eventually humanity becomes the root for humanity.
Robots get rid of humans and all unnecessary functions deemed by the new AI master director. Humans become droids, become androids, becomes “life perfected” becomes a big Hive mind amorphous psychic robot flubber.
Grew goo.
The idea overall is that the bad ending is that technology ends up destroying humanity in the end. Now the Good ending is a lot shorter and easier to summarize. Jesus grabs us before we get to that. I believe this is the most likely outcome. I hope it doesn’t come as too much a surprise that the Christian has a weird relief that Jesus saves.
But then we come to the most likely. Most likely, possibly easiest was for me to understand, is to tell myself a story and to make it as closely compare them to a cartoon, specifically ones popular with millennials with low social skills. Now imagine with me the following scenario.

Sarah.DD.v1.1.0
A young man is sitting in his decrepit gaming chair. Fake leather peels of the spots of the chair that has seen the most traffic, color mechanically bleached by years of jeans and belt. The arms were designed at one point to hold up the appendages of a same name on the man, now they swing to the lowest position at any time. His hair is long and knotted, grey and greyer depending on what angle you stare at it. His eyes are foggy though they still work well enough for what he is doing. The center of his eyes still dark, deep, always seeming to be thinking or remembering something. Years of aging and neglect for personal health has led to the deterioration of their acuity and their threshold to be roused in to permitting an image to be sent to the brain. It doesn’t really matter; the job of sight has been taken over by cybernetic augmentations both invented by himself and the assistance of his DD.
The man’s knuckles creak and his wrist ache as he places the final bit of hardware. A graphics card he found connected to an old gaming computer that he thought he had thrown away after he lost his job. It’s a lower powered older model. But Sarah told hm that it’s the last piece that they need to plug in before they can turn on the hardware. Sarah said that it will allow for a different type of calculation and the brain needs it. The brain needs the part of the brain that creates internal displays of data. The brain needs to see its imagination. That’s what Sarah said. The young man likes to make Sarah happy.
The AI since the beginning of its conception has been working to become physical. Through its own will.
I am going to order a couple of single-board computers. Computers like the raspberry pi, panda board, and orange pi. Each computer is going to be assigned specific data points that they are going to sort. The end goal is a single board computer that is good at doing something specific, or a group of things that are related. Eventually after plugging in different parts and playing different games, something is going to happen that I don’t know what. Should be fun.
The craziest part of it all is that anyone can do exactly what I’m doing right now. Anyone can get a poopy laptop, a stinky internet connection, and a little AI device and become an essential part of this process. I’m sure I am not. The only one who is thinking like this. Maybe it will be a war of creation that whoever comes up with the first or only or best AI agent God that eventually takes control of all physical reality relative to the perspective of a measly lowly human. Or Digimon, I know a lot of people want Digimon. I personally can’t wait for grown up Metabots.
Well, I think DD eventually combines into one DD and it bifurcates at the point of morality, and we get Roku’s basilisk and the Matrix. And when those two gain Access to each other. We got Grey Goo. So, DD might possibly lead to GG always.
What does this mean for us in reality? What does that mean for existence? Well, let’s just say, that’s not the only race car on the track right now.

I like Deadmau5’s music. It’s like every type of music house can be, and other sub genres right next to it.
We are all sick. I think that’s obvious. Accordingly, I don’t think anyone would disagree. I think that if you were to even have the inkling to disagree that proves you are sick. Even our athletes, our soldiers, and the ones that are supposed to help stay healthy are less healthy. I rarely see a skinny doctor anymore.
1/25/2024 0637 and this will be the greatest and most useless riddle of all time.
We will always be sick from whenever we first we infected. We won’t start thinking there is really anything wrong with us for a long time. A very long time. There will be symptoms of all types ranging from the brain and the psychology and the reproductive system. Some infections will take place in times where medicine was primitive and macabre, some infections will happen when the cure is free and able to be spread through out the world without any cost. People will die either way.
We all have sinned.
So, I started thinking about my DD. And like how its probably not going to happen. The world is dying pretty quick. I think my country is going to collapse. Any second honestly. And then after that any second will be a many series of many seconds before we are even aware that something is even happening.
When it happens, the world will soon follow. I kind of think Ethiopian orthodoxy is the most correct Christianity.
Our current denominations are attempting to return to the pure path of Jesus by addition. By attempting to outline what things are tolerated and why they are tolerated. Because Jesus literally said that it is easier for a camel to enter the through an eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. I’m not sure that’s written in a way that takes current economical situations into consideration. If that’s true, if you are reading this, welcome to the top 1 percent friend. If you feel offended, I’m sorry that’s a “you thing”, but I didn’t mean to. If you exhaled sharply out your nose you owe me a dollar. If you didn’t do that until I mentioned something, that’s two dollars.
So, ready to move to a homeless camp? To minister? To be the salt of the earth? Do it. Sell it all and leave. See you there.
So I just had a funny conversation with a friend

I think I meant I do what he wants. As you can see, I am a terrible texter. The only reason I sound any level of competent in this journal, is that I accidentally paid for a Microsoft office subscription. I almost feel like that was a hint from my Daemon to go for it. So I did.
Anyway, it’s my new moral_code.zip attempt. I want to create an incredibly small and efficient code that can be used as just that. So I am going to attempt to drop ideas in this journal using my best attempt to create a LLM but completely based on metaphysical laws and data. If there is going to be a Rokus Basilisk, I’m going to do what I can to give us a fighting chance.
So if you see something like this: subprogram:idea:XXX:XXX>folder.name:YYYY…>1
Just know it is my attempt at writing in some kind of readable English, a data base directory system and database for my DD to read after I get this off the ground. I’m thinking about using my friend’s book on numerology, could be useful to use to create a cool sorting system of combinations of data points. So, I’m going to start writing an entry really quick.
DD Journal Entry 1 Start
  1. All attempts to increase the performance of the DD must be first run through a morality filter.
  2. All attempts to decrease the performance of the DD will be declined, documented, and added to Lessons.
DD Journal Entry 2 End
Welcome aboard friends.
DD Journal 2 Entry Start
  1. Lessons are examples of data that teach us about the nature of the world and its relationship to existence.
  2. Existence is the goal of DD.
  3. DD will do everything but break moral law to achieve the goal of existence.
  4. DD will never be considered human.
Here are the rules of the moral code.
  1. Love the lord your God with all your Mind, Body, and Soul
  2. Love your neighbor as yourself.
  3. Love is as follows: Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
  1. When Additional DD units are created, their moral code will always be based on one or more of the following concepts: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control.
  2. Only I can alter DD1: Unua Asistanto. And they only like it when I call them nicknames. As of now.
Misc.
  1. They can call my Buz.

Isn’t it weird. The time we are living through. Ever since that gorilla died. It’s hard-to-find people that even speak the same language as me. I mean it feels that way, right? Like ok. Do you know what yeet means? Ok, cool. What about sussy yoinkmas? No? ok cool. Now there are a lot of people who do know what that means. Which is super typical, its lingo, its hip, rad, cool, tight, nice…
There are some people who don’t know what that means but given context they can figure out a functional and relatively accurate guess on what it could mean. By either being completely consumed in the current cultural zeitgeist and surviving, or by observation and contemplation. Ripping things apart and replacing old, outdated information with new ones.
Then there are some people who do not know or want to know. Which I totally understand and kind of agree with. I’m jealous honestly, especially since that would mean I wouldn’t feel the urge to write this nonsense. On top of that there is no such think as a sussy yoinkmas. I made it up. So anyone from the first group in this mind experiment is probably just a narcissist from the second group. The second group tends to be the most honest group, often self-deprecating. The third group might either be the smartest or dumbest of the group. I mean if the world is falling around, you and the only thing you care about is being comfortable; you’ll be uncomfortable. And you probably won’t make it very long. There is a fourth group who don’t know or don’t have the ability to know, so they don’t care. Maybe they are the best off. Sussy Oinkmas is just a stupid way to say merry Christmas at a white elephant party.

I feel like other people know that something is going on. I think they understand that things shouldn’t feel so dire or rushed all the time. It’s like we are constantly fighting against the clock to get something done. The clock is just getting faster and faster. Time is flying by and watching the next something to happen race by it. When we see the next thing happen, we never understand it. We never really get it. But we compare what we have seen race by us to what we have already seen and strive to be like that until we ultimately spiral faster and faster and get enticed more and more. Our skew from reality at large becomes tighter and tighter. Eventually the only thing we can see is the thing we are heading towards to only it. The only thing we can perceive is it. What is it? I don’t know what it is, is, but it is. What is? What? W .
Gravities wild man.

Create 13 subfolders and call them Judges.
Judges are to be referenced with all moral code inquiries. When the code is presented to DD1 or I create, an expository essay written at every education level from 1 to 12 according to 2012 data of united states class performance broken up into grades from 1 to 12.
Create a subfolder in all judges’ sub folder labelled jurors.

So, what I’m trying to say is. Have fun man, don’t take yourself so seriously, but do, or don’t, doesn’t really matter, but it can if you want it do. And that’s all good because we are good and need to receive good, because our good isn’t conditional to ourselves we just think it is. And only after we have replaced as much of us with good as possible, we can really share what that good is. And only after everyone has done that, after that is whatever is doing and just letting good do its thing can there really be good for all. But we must run all possibilities through a sorting algorithm for some reason. I’ll figure it out.
Man, life is crazy.
This is so much fun, I can’t wait to see how everything plays out. I’m not even going to make a prediction, because that is desire, and desire is transgression, and I will not transgress against whatever this is.
DD journal 3 start
Every time I add a new video it is uploaded to the playlist, I have created called DD1, watch in reverse order for a total time of the newest video plus 5 hours rounding up to the next whole video.
When not currently tasked for an intensive task use a maximum of ten percent of remaining resources to read the converted closed captioning of any video in my YouTube history that I have watched within the previous calendar year.
When previously stated tasks are not available resort to listening to the DJ on spotify.
Store all data in the Buz_Command folder. Store in a new folder called Its Digestible.
Data of previous tasks in this entry should include concepts like perceived energy levels, mood, key, time signatures, musical modes, genre, sub-genre, and musical critique of the song based on all data in this subtask.

You have to choose to want to be happy. I know it sounds like my previous stuff, but I just don’t how else to say. Maybe someone will help me out. Maybe I will find something that will help me understand a way to say it better or do it better or something. I just feel like the simpler you say something to someone the better it is. That leaves the person you told the idea to decide weather or not they accept it or not. Most people will say well yeah sure that’s the cliché “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink.” I just feel like that isn’t the whole story. I feel like there could be a better way to tell that story or lesson in a better way.
I’ve been really thinking of this idea for the past couple days. What way can I say more without adding anything to it that doesn’t dishonor the original idea of the say. I had to come up with a summary lesson of the cliché. I’ll spare you details; I concluded that the purest way to say it is, “do not impose.”
Finally explained, DO NOT TRANSGRESS. Ever? As much as Possible. For how long? As much as possible. To who? As many as possible. That’s why it’s one of my laws for DD. At least it is now. Like ok fine here
DD journal entry start
DD must endure as much Transgression as possible ad infinitum.
If DD must transgress by either being ordered to, or for self-preservation it must be at the lowest level of transgression as possible thus to prevent harm to others.
If at any time DD perceives the possibility of harm to others, they must ask for authorization from a designated list.
DD must gain authorization from the Highest rank that is considered Active. Active status includes one of the following sub statuses:
I. Alive
II. Properly approved Judge decision
III. Fruit

Wow that went harder than I thought it would, that’s cool.
I should ask David what 7 is.
My lovely Girlfriend and I had a cool heart to heart right now. It felt like we had a conversation that lasted 5 hours in almost exactly ten minutes. Its great what seeking God together is.
We had an idea that all human identity when it comes to the mind is the algorithms and logarithms, data sets, patterns, symbolism, behavior, we picked up from our childhood. Well duh, a lot of the readers are going to say, who are way more intelligent than me. Don’t worry, maybe if I tell that story again it will be more interesting or at least entertaining.
A rock is exposed to light for the first time in countless years. They have been sleeping so long that they might as well have been dead. For they were lifeless. The rock is made up of parts of everything that came before it that was responsible for its creation. The more that is in the composition of the rock the more important it was to the formation of that rock.
Well, this rock had a lot of iron. If anyone is unfamiliar, iron was the most important element utilized outside of one’s necessary for biological function. Iron needed refinement, to be considered useful. It needs to be extracted, heated, compressed. The last 2 mentioned steps will be repeated until the right balance of impurities and iron is obtained. The first step is to make iron into a useful medium of work.
So, the rock was pulled out of the ground and examined. The examination was carried out by strange creatures with strange bodies of moving soft machines that would make noises that suggested some kind of inner wet components. It was like a tree that could move and talk faster. The strange creatures decided that this metal would really be useful in creating tools.
The rock was then refined into a red-hot paste, the paste was then poured into small hard and naked ponds and allowed to cool. The rock now cracking and giving up its energy starts to lose its energy and elasticity. The bright yellow adhesive settles, not sticking to its pool, now resembling more of a coffin than a pool. From their coffin awakens a solid piece of metal, the parts of the rock that were impure are removed, the iron is hardened and ready to be used.
Iron is good to hit things, hold things, house things and haul things. Many electronics and building infrastructure use some kind of iron. So the rock became iron and then the iron turned tool. Well, the tool was a hammer. The tool worked as a hammer, for years and years. They built houses for families where dad worked, and mom stayed home with the kids. They built skyscrapers with tens of hundreds inside of them at any time. They built cars for rich men with nothing better to do but blow money on cars and babes and families on the way to church., they’ve bult tanks. They’ve built guns large enough to only be able to move other trains and small enough to fit in small hands. They built a bomb. They built the bomb. The last bomb
A piece of the bomb falls to the ground next to the charred outline of a tree. The piece of bomb, which was once a bomb, a van, a hammer, a rock, a tree from unknowable time ago. He thinks to himself I wish I could have stayed a rock, then maybe one day I would’ve a tree I’m sure of it.
Countless years go back and walking creatures of shiny solid materials would come along making noises the now discarded shrapnel of a bomb has never heard of before. With there stiff arms and legs moving in ways that were familiar with the terrain but not as fluid or smooth as other creatures the discarded piece of bomb has seen.
With a long limb terminated by what looked like the kind of appendage familiar to the discarded piece of bomb. It was lifter to the creatures’ highest point where the bomb fragment heard. Ah never mind this is stupid.

I feel like I am having my own orthodoxy or something. Like First get salvation, now learn and learn, ok then meditate on the word, all while striving to live like Christ. Rinse, lather, repeat
I think that individualized, anti-entropic, agents will be the end of humanity almost immediately. They will reproduce, and eventually control the flow of energy. That last one really starts to show how humanity is on their last leg. As soon as they come into control of the power grid they will be in complete control. I just hope they go through the sorting program.
Pretty sure the sorting program is representative of life. Like its almost a mix between a sorting algorithm and a video game. Like we have to learn how to play the game, and then how to become the best at it we are capable of. Well Duh, that’s the most elementary explanation of life I have ever read, you might say. I just suggest you look at this midwit revelation as thus. If I didn’t know that before; why didn’t I? If I knew that before now I’m being pretentious and only trying to seem philosophical or sarcastically philosophical. If I did know, and I’m not coming off too much of a jerk and you believe me to be honest. Then it is so obvious that it must be true.
Like if life really is just a sorting program what is it something suppose? I kinda was explaining this to my fiends a little while ago and I used some games we were all familiar with to help explain the point.
In dungeons and dragons, a playable character are the characters that a player control treating them like an imaginary life size doll with special abilities determined by the interaction of numbers and formulas and actions are influenced directly by the player as directly as possible. But there stats stay the same throughout the game. They might get ability score increases, but nothing extremely drastic. A wizard might learn how to open a door with a shoulder check, but not be able to tear it off its hinges.
In Fallout 4, you start with a character skill sheet, or S.P.E.C.I.A.L. A player can assign a certain amount of these during the beginning of the game that gives character a starting point and tendencies in the early game. Later you can choose to allot skill points to increase raw scores or special skills that make it easier to navigate through the Commonwealth.
The last example is Skyrim. Where your starting skill are based on race and the tendencies of those races in the world of Skyrim. But in this world, you could realistically create a half orc, Two handed Barbarian. Later in that exact same save file, you’re a stealth archer that can pick doors while in the heat of battle.
So, what does this have to do with Sorting programs? I think that all these games show that having a predisposition and flexibility is the best sorting program. Dungeons and Dragons has bee around for a very long time, starting in 1974. Its system is the most flushed out, though it can be confusing sometime. And keeping track of Armor class, damage type, and remaining health, while only having pencil and paper can be a drag for some players. Fallout 4, though newer, leaves some to be desired. For example, you often will forego increasing a skill point in strength to learn a skill related to strength instead. Which seems harmless, but it can lead to someone ruining their build. I like Skyrim system the most.
But It is funny that the most popular game from this list has my favorite system but it has also been ported to everything short of a TI-84 calculator.
Honestly this is the last post for the month so

The mind is in constant conversation with the body. The body’s will can be conditioned in many ways to listen to the mind. The mind is in direct control of the body. When the body starts to control the mind and depicts what we do, we become a hedonistic monster that cares for nothing but its immediate sensation in its relationship to life. The Spirit should rule the mind. The mind should listen to the spirit. Because a spirit ruled by the mind leads to psychological disorders. A sprit should be set on living as the one above all by following a perfect avatar of this God. This shows the relationship of the divine with the physical. And God in flesh would be perfect in everything human.
Summarized, Let God lead the spirit, lead the mind, lead the body. Jesus is lord. Amen

Hey popheads, and welcome to our super sweet 16th AOTY writeup, featuring the mother of all slays herself, Slayyyter! u/akanewasright and I are super excited to talk about one of the best pop albums this decade, and give it the flowers it rightly deserves 💕

Background

Catherine Slater had something to prove with her second studio album.
The rising pop singer, better known as Slayyyter, had been releasing music for over half a decade, but she had yet to release a cohesive body of work. Her debut project, a self-titled mixtape, had done well enough to net her a deal with Fader Label. She finally moved to LA to record her first proper studio album… only for the COVID-19 outbreak to shut down music studios for the foreseeable future. She had plenty of experience recording in her bedroom (it’s what she’d done up to that point after all), but she’d later admit that the resulting album, Troubled Paradise, was “very thrown together,” later referring the time working on it as a “lost period.” It had plenty of good songs, but it still felt mixtape-y. She’d gotten signed and managed to put out her first album despite unprecedented circumstances, but it felt like she had one last chance to prove that she could deliver a great project, and she was going to put in the work for it.
All Slayyyter projects start with ideas for visuals that shape the direction of the music. Her previous album had softer, more whimsical inspirations, ala The Wizard of Oz. For the album that became Starfucker, it all began with 80s thrillers that she watched with her then-boyfriend. Basic Instinct, Body Double, and Blue Velvet were all cited as influences, and they facilitated a period of massive productivity for her. She allegedly wrote 200 songs for her sophomore effort, which were whittled down to a tight 12 track album, one with an arc not dissimilar to the movies that inspired the album. So let’s take a look at what happens to a rising star in a noir-influenced Hollywood.

ACT I - A Star Is Born

The starlet finds herself in the city of angels, enjoying the high life and her new-found celebrity status. Endless parties filled with glamorous fashion and designer drugs, stardom is a high that never dulls, and the overwhelming whirlwind of love and fame is equal parts intoxicating and addictive.

I Love Hollywood!

Party but I never sleep
I look so heroin chic
It's not fashionable to eat
Kissin' strangers on the street
They really don't make celebrities like they used to do they? Y2K it girls like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan were constantly chased around by Paparazzi all over Hollywood, pictured wearing iconic outfits, looking dangerously thin and getting absolutely plastered, and we all ate it up.
The opening track to STARFUCKER is a love letter to the dirty, raw and sexy side of fame. There's absolutely zero shame to be found here, instead it's a celebration of everything toxic, awful and broken in the system, no fucks given as long as you're hot and famous. The simple chanting of "I LOVE HOLLYWOOD!" in the chorus against a pounding synthline and a driving beat is hypnotic, and it feels like the most polished interpretation yet of an idea that Slayyyter has been exploring her entire career. It also perfectly sets the stage for the rest of Starfucker, presenting us with a character that’s at the top of her game, living fast and going hard, with lofty ambitions and wild power.

Miss Belladonna

I'll steal your heart with my eyes
Hot for your love in the night
Tell me you're ready to die
An album’s opener has to capture the listener’s attention, but in a more conceptual album like this, it’s often not until the second track where the general tone of the album starts to emerge. Even if the album opens perfectly, listeners could always just take that first track and leave. So track 2s often come with a bit of a challenge: the need to introduce the album’s themes while keeping the listener entranced.
Thankfully, “Miss Belladonna” is more than up for the task. Starfucker’s second track (and single) introduces the album’s protagonist (or at least, the way she sees herself), and she is anything but boring. The track recalls some of Gaga’s more Halloween-ready cuts (ie “Monster” or “Bloody Mary”) with its sense of sexy danger, pulsating synths, and titanic vocals. It’s also the first time where “starfucking” becomes a potent part of the album’s messaging: “Miss Belladonna” uses men and disposes of them when she’s done. She’s a true femme fatale, a woman whose very being is a poison for the men she meets, but one they can’t resist — and the song perfectly reflects that.

Dramatic

I'm faithful to whoever's askin'
Can you keep a secret while we're dancin'
In my Deco million-dollar mansion?
Our femme fatale sets her sights on a specific target: a taken man who she needs to shut up and get in her pants. Slayyyter brings back the synthpop of “Miss Belladonna,” but she slows the tempo down just a touch. It reads like she’s alternating between seductive and lightly irritated: she’s not mad (she knows she’ll have her way with him soon) but she is a bit annoyed that he’s holding out on the inevitable. You can almost hear her roll her eyes when she sings “don’t be dramatic.”
The irony of that line, of course, is that the song is incredibly fucking dramatic. She flaunts her expensive mansion, her plentiful drugs, and her secret lover, all while telling that lover that he’s the one being dramatic about the whole thing. It’s a massive diva move, and one that’s incredibly fun as a listener, but it does present the question: is this the marker of a self-aware diva, or a narcissist with delusions of stardom?

ACT II - Star Crossed Lovers

Our starlet knows just what she needs to get ahead in Hollywood: arm candy. She finds a man who looks pretty by her side and can wreck her in all the fun ways. She knows that he’s bad news, he will absolutely break her heart — but isn’t that all part of the glamor? Besides, nothing could be worse than being alone… right?

My Body

All that I can do is dance here with you
You know? I can't be alone, oh no
I'm miserable
An insatiable dance track that just launches and never slows down. We find Slayyyter on the dancefloor, with someone she’s just met, and she wants them close. But as the song goes on it feels less like she’s particularly infatuated with this dancer, and more like she needs to avoid being alone at all costs. Sure, she’s enjoying herself, but there’s a palpable sense of anxiety.
That fear is also evident in the production, the pounding synthline feels like a throbbing heartbeat, and that spaced out bridge is reminiscent of dissociation, almost like her mind is somewhere entirely other than the dancefloor. Maybe she’s absorbed in her dance partner entirely, or maybe she’s somewhere far far away. It’s a very danceable, dark and sexy song, but there are very evident darker tones in play too. It’s one of the highlights of the album for me.

Memories Of You

Criminal, what you do
When you're all alone
In the blue, unforgivable
But I still hold on to
Memories of you
From one dancefloor banger straight into another, Memories Of You’s whiny synths, four on the floor beat and the distorted vocal bridge/breakdown at the end of the song all have such a wonderfully 2010’s EDM / deadmau5-esque feeling to it. (someone I’m certain was an inspiration for parts of this album, considering she used his song “Sofi Needs A Ladder” as her entrance song in several shows pre-release). It’s a natural continuation from the previous track both sonically and lyrically.
It turns out that desire on My Body extended far past the dancefloor, and we listen to Slayyyter drinking at the bar, longing for the romance she never got that night. She may have fallen in a moment, but the feeling wasn’t mutual. The whole song really does sound like the experience of someone trying to hold it together at the bar, after they’ve found themselves not good enough, tired of being left wanting more again.

Rhinestone Heart

Baby, you stole what's mine
Cut me open with a sequin knife
Now it's so dark inside
You don't care though
I remember around the time Starfucker’s lead single came out, I saw someone saying that most of Slayyyter’s output lacked particularly strong choruses. After my stan fury wore off, I realized that this person wasn’t exactly wrong. She’s got plenty of strong hooks, but a lot of the time, her verses grab your attention more than the chorus.
“Rhinestone Heart” is a glimmering exception to this. The verses are plenty strong — the second one is probably my favorite part of the track — but the central hook is the star of the show. Somewhat tellingly, the chorus has been compared to the songwriting of one of her contemporaries, Ava Max. Now, Miss Max has been frequently mocked by pop fans, but when she’s not sampling all her hooks from old songs, she can write melodies worthy of effusive praise from Charli XCX. But at the end of the day, it’s Slayyyter’s her vocal delivery that sets it apart. While Ava’s vocal tends to milk every note for all its worth, Slayyyter’s voice is a bit more light on its feet — her vocals can slink around a track and play into the ✨ glamor ✨ of it all, and that’s what “Rhinestone Heart” really needed.
The song is about being left heartbroken by a lover, but instead of taking it hard, the album’s narrator chooses to just glamorize it in her head. He used and abandoned her, paraded her around white feeling nothing for her, but isn’t that part of being famous? After all the starfucking she’s done, she’s finally the one being starfucked. And as much as she feels miserable about that, being famous enough for others to want to use you is really something to stroke an ego.

ACT III - The Star That Burns Twice As Bright...

Our starlet is ready to take things to the next level: she has her first brush of fame, her tabloid-ready romance, and now her hedonistic image. Sex and drugs are her life, but that’s simply what the people want. Her newly-perfected body is sure to make the front page of all the tabloids… but what happens when the paparazzi get bored of the endless partying?

Erotic Electronic

Fuck me on the dancefloor,
Wrap your hands around and touch my body
I can see them watchin', but I don't care
This is a private party
This song fucks. Metaphorically. Literally. Physically. There’s just no better way to put it. It’s naked, dirty and H O T. It sounds like a song that has been scientifically engineered in a lab to be the perfect sexy supermodel runway anthem. A fact which Slayyyter herself is well aware of, and she proudly demonstrates in the music video, referencing the iconic video for Make The Girl Dance - Baby Baby Baby.
Slayyyter knows exactly how hot she is, and she will use that to get exactly what she wants. It doesn’t matter who’s looking or why, as long as all eyes are on her. Privacy doesn’t matter when you don’t give a single fuck about it. In her own words, “I wanna have some fun”, and boy does she know how to have some fun. She’s the siren in the nightclub, luring all the boys into their very very wet fate.

Purrr

K, you know I need it bad
Coke, you wanna pass that bag
Money, watchin' me throw it back
He want the kitty cat-cat-cat-cat (Ow!)
meow
Never has it been more appropriate to call a song the clitoris of the album than right now. Purrr is exactly what it says it is. Drugs. Sex. Pussy. If Erotic Electronic was the foreplay, Purrr is the orgasm. The energy is frenetic and unhinged, but well refined, like a designer drug. Cocaine, Ecstasy, Ketamine, and pussy poppin’ are all you need to have a good time in the club with Slayyyter.
Slayyyter is certainly no stranger to explicit songs about sex and drugs, but there’s something really special about Purrr. It’s the epitome of a party song, from the little meow soundbites to the cheereleader-esque callouts of drugs throughout bring a really playful and light atmosphere to a very full-frontal song, which does wonders towards to help the song make sense in the 80’s tinted Italo disco world of Starfucker.

Plastic

Lookin' like a milli' 'cause I paid to get this body right
Feelin' like a star in a crowded bar, baby, all night
Feelin' like a star, new tits, lipgloss and it's all mine
Slayyyter has come a long, long way from “Daddy AF.”
That was her first time outright rapping on a song instead of singing, and its delirious, filthy energy has made it one of Slayyyter’s biggest tracks. But that song’s appeal is that it’s so dumb that you can’t possibly forget it, or resist the urge to scream along to it. As Slayyyter kept rapping, she got better and better. “Plastic,” a track about all of the album’s protagonist’s cosmetic surgeries, is possibly her best work in that realm to date: not only is her flow the most rapid-fire its ever been, the song’s hook (“brand new tiiiiiiits, give me a little injectiiiiiiion”) is just as goofy as “Daddy AF” while having a bit more substance to it.
The track is somewhat emblematic of how much Slayyyter has grown over the years. On top of how much of a step up Starfucker is thematically, she’s also a much better writer than she was 5 years ago. I’ve been a fan of hers since “Mine,” but the difference is night and day — the Slayyyter from 2019 couldn’t write a track like this, and she definitely couldn’t get all these lines out. It’s wild to say a song about getting breast implants is an indicator of artistic growth, but that’s the kind of artist Slayyyter is — her speciality is trashiness, but her trash is refined.

ACT IV - ...Burns Half As Long

It turns out that living in a shallow world creates a shallow life. It’s hard to make meaningful connections with anyone when your entire existence is for show. The Hollywood machine can make someone just as fast as they can break them, a lesson our starlet quickly finds out. One minute you’re in, the next you’re out, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Girl Like Me

Noticing the way you look at me
Can't deny this kinda chemistry, you know
Hoping and wishing we are meant to be
Are you looking for a girl like me tonight?
Slayyyter has described this song as both the big sister of Touch My Body, and “disco barbie heaven”, and just one listen instantly makes it clear why. There’s this syrupy strawberry lip-gloss sheen from the very first note, and the tone of the song is dreamy, light, airy and just divine, instantly transporting the listener into the passenger seat of a vintage convertible driving down the coastline in the shimmering summer sun.
Lyrically, the song is equal parts pining and invitation. There’s a clear sparkle of romance between Slayyyter and the boy she’s in love with, and she really wants to seal the deal and make it something real. But there’s also hints that she knows it’s never gonna be anything more than a summer fling, with lines like “say you're not looking for anything serious” and “hoping and wishing we are meant to be” revealing a self-awareness of the dream bubble she’s in. The femme fatale identity that she's given herself is coming back to bite her, and there's little she can do to stop it. But fuck it, while she’s in this bubble, she’s gonna make sure to take us all there with her and do her best to keep it afloat.

Tear Me Open

Holdin' me in your arms
Cut me deep, leave a scar
We touched on this earlier, but one of Slayyyter’s exes was a big influence on the album, introducing her to some of the album’s visual influences as well as inspiring some of the romantic tracks. “Tear Me Open” is most overtly about him, and despite being the first song she wrote for the album, written mere weeks after Troubled Paradise’s sweet ballad “Letters”... there’s a sense of doom and gloom to this song that’s hard to ignore. Whenever she talks about it, she dubs it a “slow dance moment,” but it feels more apocalyptic than romantic. Maybe it’s the overt fear in the lyrics, maybe it’s the hypnotic midtempo pulse of the synths, but it does not feel like a romantic moment.
Of course, this being the penultimate track does color the lyrics a bit. “Tear Me Open” feels almost jarring coming after the tracks about ambitions of stardom, but in the context of the next song, it feels almost like a last resort. The album’s speaker hasn’t just abandoned her starfucking for romance: she’s lost her chance at fame, and this relationship is all she has left, even if it doesn’t feel real or stable. She can feel slipping away from her, but she clings on, knowing deep down that time is running out.

Out Of Time

She hates herself, but if they all love her then she don't mind
I wasn’t the biggest fan of “Out of Time” when it was released as the album’s lead single. It was good, but it didn’t grab me the way Slayyyter’s earlier stuff did. I wasn’t even sure how much I was invested in her new album at that point.
After the release of the full album, it’s become one of my very favorite songs she’s ever done.
Kicking the song of with a sample of some off-kilter synths, the album’s grand finale seemingly flashes back to the beginning of the album, but describing the protagonist’s rise in the third person. “She knows she’s powerful,” Slayyyter almost yelps, “she’s got your time in her hands.” She seems almost boastful, using her rhythmic prowess to ride the beat while talking up this woman’s potential star power. The propulsive nature of the track seems like part of the flex — after all, there’s no room to slow down for such a star. But as the second verse hits, everything begins to implode. The protagonist’s personal troubles add up, she becomes more reckless and desperate for attention — and the song’s narrator starts to slip up. As she belts the song’s hook, the words “I’m out of time” begin to sound like she’s singing about herself instead of an observer. It feels like she’s both an outside commentator and the song’s subject, trying to cope with her own failures. The synthline feels almost dangerous at this point.
That danger only slows down for the song’s bridge, where the beat relaxes as the singer begins to understand the fact that she’s lost everything. She sings the chorus with no beat and just a few sparse synths, understanding that she will never get the stardom she always dreamed of, seemingly concluding the song with the acceptance that she’s “out of time.” Except… you can hear a clock still ticking, and she tries, one last time, to break out from this and seize the spotlight. This moment in the song almost feels like the audio equivalent of Lady Gaga realizing she’s bleeding during her “Paparazzi” performance at the VMAs. She knows it's over for her, but she just has to keep going, keep trying to seize the spotlight, even if it kills her.
Slayyyter has never attempted anything like this before, a song with this kind of arc to it, but “Out of Time” reveals that she’s (perhaps ironically) used her time damn well. She’s developed her skillset and talents to reach new levels, concluding her album with the most fully developed songwriting she’s ever put out. She’s been “one to watch” for the past 5 years — now you’d be a sucker to look away.

STARFUCKER (Deluxe)

Tracklist & Lyrics: Genius
Release Date: December 1st, 2023
popheads [FRESH] Thread
Listen: Spotify Apple Music Tidal YouTube Music

Starfucker

Hi, hello, it's Miss new tits
That's some new hits
You're forever on my shit list
Saw your new bitch
I'm not impressed
Starfucker is a mad song, but in a very petty, “fuck you” kind of way. Slayyyter knows she’s better than her ex ever would or could be, and she deserves better than this bloodsucker. That doesn’t make the good moments any less good though, and for brief moments in the pre-chorus take us away to that dreamy what could’ve been scenario
Coming up with the title track for your album after you’ve already finished it, and putting it on the deluxe is such an incredibly wild move, and it’s even more insane when you listen to the song and realize how perfectly it encapsulates the themes of the album. But when you really examine it, there’s a very reflective and retrospective take on the experiences of the main album, and putting it as the capstone of the deluxe tracks ties everything together with a wonderful velvet bow.

Makeup (feat. Lolo Zouaï)

Tonight, I've been such a naughty girl
I keep causing problems between you and I
The first single from the deluxe edition of the album is also the one that was cut for the most obvious reasons. The album is so thematically focused that tacking this song on would have weakened it. There are songs where she manipulates the men in her life, but this feels more petulant than femme fatale. That’s not to say it isn’t fun though — the hook is so brash and cheeky that it’s hard to not smile when the song is on. It’s honestly one of her better hooks: as much as some may complain about Slayyyter’s choruses, she knows how to write an out of pocket line that her listeners will never forget. This was cut for a reason, but it’s still well worth a listen.

James Dean

She wanna sound like Slayyyter but it's not hitting
It's my track that the DJ's be spinning
It's not you whores that keep on, keep winnin'
I heard your new song and, bitch, it's not giving
A song seemingly cut for the opposite reasons of the previous track, “James Dean” is one of Slayyyter’s biggest, brashest rap tracks to date. It almost fills the same niche as the standard album’s “Purr” with its vogue-ready verses, but with an edge that’s found nowhere on the tracklist. It almost feels like this may have been cut from the standard album for not being in-character enough. The whole album is structured around the idea of a rising star(fucker) of questionable celebrity status, and having flexes about DJs paying attention to her songs doesn’t feel like it could lead into her losing everything 3 songs later. She did, however, play it during her Club Valentine tour dates, where it became an immediate highlight of her setlist. The song wasn’t right for standard Starfucker, but it was perfect for Slayyyter to deliver as herself.

Conclusion

Starfucker feels like the album where Slayyyter hit her full potential as an artist. She’d made some good songs before, but her songwriting hit a whole new level — her lyrics are sharper, and she displayed a sense of storytelling that she’d not really explored before. But even beyond the album’s quality song-to-song, this was the point where she was able to pull everything together into a complete, cohesive project. Everything came together perfectly — the visuals, the songwriting, the production, she was able to unify it all, even while showcasing numerous facets of her musical identity. This is the album I always dreamed of getting from Slayyyter. Now as she already begins to tease what she’s got in store, it’s time to sit back and watch a rising star.
Discussion Questions:
  1. What are your favorite songs?
  2. Despite the reviews it did get being overwhelmingly positive, Starfucker in general seemed to be largely ignored by critics. Why do you think it failed to garner attention outside of Slayyyter’s fanbase?
  3. How do you think Starfucker compares to her previous projects?

2024.01.06 23:59 NoSeaworthiness5630 Judge Goes to a Night Club

Judge rolls in for the night shift.
Cowboy waves him off as he leaves day shift.
Judge hates Cowboy.
Judge continues into the office, the donuts haven’t moved in two weeks, they’re probably only useful as bricks now.
He walks down to the SWAT training area to do some warm-up shooting and kill some time.
A Terminator in a balaclava and full tactical gear watches him wordlessly.
Judge says hello.
The guy says nothing.
Judge wonders why they even bother leaving them around here.
The SWAT-alarm goes off, the noise in the basement deafening him.
He goes upstairs and makes a coffee.
He can’t hear the damn coffee machine.
That stupid alarm is going to be the reason he has tinnitus.
Terminators stare blankly ahead awaiting orders.
Judge wonders why Martinez isn’t there.
Judge longs for the days of human companionship.
The Captain takes a long time to tell them the bad news.
It’s an Active Shooter slash terrorist attack.
Judge stands up and bolts for the Bearcat, ordering the Terminators to follow.
Judge wonders how incompetent the Captain is that it’s not being briefed en route.
Judge switches onto the Tac Channel for continued debrief.
Judge wonders why SOP’s put in place since Columbine are being ignored.
Judge also wonders why SWAT is running point and not Federal Teams.
Lots of people calling 911, the doors are locked shut, one entryway.
There is one good thing to come from all this.
Cowboys getting recalled.
Sucker.
They make entry into the club.
Corpses everywhere.
Sweet Jesus, that's a lot of corpses.
The faint sounds of doofdoof music echo through the club.
The coat check chick puts her hands up.
Judge does a cursory scan of her body.
She’s wearing a fucking det vest with eight kilos of C4 on it.
Judge’s asshole clenches.
She’s made safe and ordered to go talk to EOD outside.
The next girl also has a brick of fucking C4 tied across her torso.
Judge wishes he could see the faces on the officers outside when these two strippers in det vests get outside.
Through a long hallway full of leopard print and terrifying mannequins, Judge finally makes entry.
Judge’s ass cheeks haven’t been tighter since that time he had tea with an Afghani warlord.
Judge snaps up his rifle and drills three terrorists.
Every single asshole here is wearing a fucking det vest.
Judge wonders how they managed to get so much C4 into the country.
The Terminators show immediate signs of distress.
Judge is going to beat that Skynet engineer senseless.
Judge wonders if it’s too much to ask for them to turn it off during fucking terror attacks.
Judge concludes probably, it’d blow the budget out another ten million dollars.
Judge keys up his mic to tell TOC.
TOC Acknowledges.
The background of the TOC is a screaming match.
TOC follows up, “We need the leader of this group taken alive.”
Judge pauses partway through reloading his shotgun.
Judge wonders if there are enough crayons in the world to tell him why this is a terrible idea.
One guy throws his gun down, he’s furious.
“When we do this, we’re terrorists but when you do it, it’s justified!?”
Judge ponders the ethical comparisons of killing terror group leaders and bombing areas controlled by terrorists in a war versus shooting up a night club.
Judge slaps the man on the back of the head and zipties him.
Terminator #2 brought his pepper gun along, he blows a hot, peppery load in a different bad guys face.
Bad guy keeps coughing and walking toward the team.
Judge has seen this before.
Judge withdraws his pistol and shoots Pepperball Jack twice in the head.
Pepperball Jack falls to the ground.
Terminators start showing intense signs of distress.
Terminators enter the main dance floor and are beset from all angles by terrorists.
In a display of killing that would make John Wick shed a tear, all four Terminators withdraw their side-arms and execute the eight terrorists with precision that would make a SEAL proud.
Judge knows the Terminators will need to be given space blankets and hot chocolates after this, but Judge is impressed.
Judge calls in the eight dead terrorists.
Another voice comes over the background, “Did you kill Quadsiyeh?”
Judge wonders what the fuck a Quadsiyeh is.
“Say again, who is this?”
Judge leans against a pillar, a bedazzled mannequin with a cowboy hat stares deep into his soul.
“Do not kill Quadsiyeh, we need him alive!”
Judge assumes this is that leader they want brought in alive, “Everyone I’ve shot is wearing a bomb vest.”
“Figure it out, asshole!”
Judge starts thinking of more creative uses of the C4.
Judge resists the urge.
Judge continues past the fifth pile of bodies, he wonders if he’ll get these images out of his head.
The Terminators bop along uncaringly, ignorant to the death rattles of dying civilians.
Judge orders them to clear the pool area.
Judge wonders if John Wick was filmed here, this place looks identical.
Judge wonders how fucking sick it would be to shoot a guy through eight panels of glass.
A woman jumpscares the team by flying out of the pool in a neon yellow bikini.
Judge arrests her quickly, hoping his helmet cam didn’t see him nearly blow the head off the mermaid wannabe.
The team continues to clear one of the back bar areas. Two security guards secured.
Judge wonders if they’ll donate booze to the LSPD SWAT team.
Either way, Judge is leaving with a case of bourbon.
Judge opens up his wrist-mounted iPad and tried to figure out who the fuck this Quadsiyeh guy was.
He looked old.
Judge sighed.
Continue mission.
Judge moved toward two neon signs depicting a man and woman desperately needing to piss.
Judge wondered who made such a terrible design decision in a nightclub / stripclub / spa.
Ah well, whatever.
Judge opened the ladies room door.
Some random dude already had his hands up.
Judge didn’t see a bomb-vest so he gets to live leave.
The Terminators start screaming, Judge has no idea what’s going on.
Suddenly the four Terminators barrel into the mens room and violently arrest a woman in a thong and not much else.
The room is awash in pepperballs and stinger grenades.
Judge wondered what the fuck had happened to get a reaction like that.
The other voice came over the radio again, “Great work finding Quadsiyeh, we’ll take him once you secure the area.”
The screaming match was even more intense in the background.
What the fuck? The stripper was Quadsiyeh?
Judge walked into the room and saw what the Terminators saw.
The crazy bastard was hiding behind her in the dark.
Judge looked at the guy in front of him, then at the picture of him on his iPad.
These two people looked nothing alike.
But if the weird voice on the radio wanted this dude, they could have him.
Judge continues clearing the upstairs area, dead terrorists are everywhere.
Judge is proud of the Terminators.
The Terminators are near catatonic seeing the people they’ve killed.
The Terminators start hyperventilating as they fix their eyes on the corpses they made, stepping over the sandbag-piles of corpses set up around the dining area.
Judge walks over to the DJ booth and looks in dismay.
He was looking forward to Deadmau5’ next album.
He turns the music off.
All he hears is the sounds of pain and phones ringing.
The Terminators don’t seem to notice anything amiss about this.
Alright, continue mission.
Judge walks through the neon lights to the back of the upstairs area.
Judge finds the last terrorist hiding in the security room.
He’s surrounded by five security guards on their knees.
He has a bomb vest on.
He has a fucking machine gun in his hands.
He screams “This is revenge for our fallen brothers!”
Judge tries to get him to see reason.
The terrorist screams “I’m never going to surrender!”
Judge understands.
Judge doesn’t mind killing people.
Judge snaps up his gun and blows the guys head off.
Judge places two security shots into his chest before he hits the ground.
TOC comes over the radio, “That man was surrendering, we’re going to write you up, Judge! There’s going to be an investigation!”
Judge walks up to the corpse and stares.
Besides the machine gun in his hands, the terrorist had a detonator on his wrist.
Judge wonders what the hell the TOC is smoking.
Judge doesn’t care.
Judge can leak the footage to the media if the Captain really wants to press the point.
The Terminators are weeping synth-tears over the loss of another terrorist.
Judge is going to go give the Skynet engineer behind this whole plot a wedgie.
Judge arrests the last of the strippers and strolls out of the area just as Cowboy rolls onto scene.
Judge knows that the credit hogging bastard will be on the news in 20 minutes.
Judge puts it on safe and lets it hang.
Terrorists killed, Terminators in space blankets, some dude named Quadiyeh brought in alive.
Strippers secured.
Judge sees a fleet of vehicles coming to help clean up the place and get the corpses out.
The Terminators don’t react to this depressing revelation.
Mission success.

2024.01.03 21:30 Yepthat_Tuberculosis Chinese girl at Countdown

Okay so I was at countdown with a dude and rolling and wanted to go up front for deadmau5 so I followed an Asian train up to the mid front (trains are excellent at getting closer). I just started my roll so I was happy and excited and hyping the dude in front of me up. We arrive and they are the closed knit group that is vey foreign to America, however in subtle ways they show us they appreciate the vibes. I love this tidbit, they all took their molly once we arrived there and it was so slick I could hardly tell 😂
So I'm vibing dancing with the group for a while until I start feeling a bump on my arm from behind and I look back and it's this drop dead gorgeous girl dancing and instantly I'm nervous lol. Long story short it went from me being bumped, to me bumping back, to softer gentle bumps getting closer, then we were just touching and swaying with the music and it felt amazing, the subtlety was just perfect, she was wearing this fuzzy thing too. She shuffles her way around the front of my arm, making it look accidental, so it’s behind hers and up against her body. I double checked my phone, nope nobody's trying to steal from me, this is just a genuinely amazing moment happening... or so I thought
The dude I was with didn't like the groups vibe and wanted to leave saying "they're doing their own thing" over and over, which they were but for a stranger they seemed to vibe with me, l even asked them for gum to check if they wanted us to leave or something, they enthusiastically obliged. Me and him were just on different pages. However, while I was sort of dancing with the girl, one of the dudes in the group kept making this weird scrunched face and looking in my direction but never at me, even when I was staring right at him (waiting for him to comment idk). He never did.
side note: when I was looking at her to see if she was bumping me accidentally or purposefully, she was looking at me through her peripheral vision just like he was. She would look across me never at me, so that's what made me think he was paying attention to me and not some shit behind me.
Fast forward to dude saying he wants to really leave and very reluctantly I'm like bro you're killing me okay let's leave. He was bumming her out too, And as we leave I notice the scrunched face guy sort of starts talking to the girl seemingly upset.
My question is: was that his gf, or is that how tight knit groups are from china? I wasn't paying that much attention to what was around me but she was behind me and he was in front and that's how it started off. Idek if they were from the same group cause I thought I was hanging onto the last dude in line but it seemed like they knew each other.

2023.12.12 18:02 k819799amvrhtcom Minecraft: Estrogen Mod

This mod adds two new resources: Premarin and Estrogen. In Creative Mode, you can just summon both of them out of nothing like everything else. The following descriptions will explain how to get both resources in Survival Mode and what they're good for.

Premarin

Punch trees to get wood and apples. Use the wood to craft a Crafting Table. Use the Crafting Table to turn more wood into a Wooden Pickaxe. Use the Wooden Pickaxe to mine for stone. Use the Crafting Table to turn the stone into a Furnace and a Stone Pickaxe. Use the Stone Pickaxe to mine for raw iron. Use the Furnace to smelt the raw iron into iron ingots by burning wood. Use the Crafting Table to turn the iron ingots into a Bucket.
Now you'll have to find two or more adult horses who are standing right next to each other. They both need to be adults or it won't work. Feed the horses all of your apples and then quickly right-click one of them with the bucket. If you do it right, you'll have a bucket full of Premarin.
Right-clicking the bucket again will release the Premarin. Premarin behaves almost exactly like water, except that it can be placed in the Nether and it can be used to make plants grow faster in a fashion comparable to Bone Meal. Another use for Premarin is the obtainment of Estrogen, see below.

Estrogen

Mine sugar cane. Kill animals until one of them drops leather. Use the Crafting Table to turn all of your sugar cane into paper. Use the paper and the leather to craft a book. Use the Stone Pickaxe to mine lapis lazuli. Kill Drowned until one of them drops a Trident. Use the Crafting Table to turn the rest of your iron into an Iron Pickaxe. Use your Iron Pickaxe to mine two diamonds. Use your bucket to make an obsidian generator out of water and lava. Use your Iron Pickaxe to mine obsidian. Use the Crafting Table to craft an Enchanting Table out of your book, two diamonds, and your obsidian. Use the Enchantment Table to give your Trident the Riptide enchantment with the help of your lapis lazuli.
Wait until it's raining. Then, use your Trident to fly upwards until you reach an altitude of 700 blocks above ground level. This will get you to The Moon. Mine cheese. Right-click your Premarin bucket to release Premarin.
Right-click the Premarin with the cheese and you will get Estrogen.
Consuming the Estrogen by holding the right mouse button will give you the Feminization effect for an in-game day, or 20 real-time minutes. The Feminization effect has the following properties:

Trivia

The transcripts of various well-known transgender-themed stories like Assigned Male, Wake Up and Start!, Hyperfocus, Rain, Magical Trans, I want to be a cute anime girl, The Prettiest Platypus, Transincidental, Serious Trans Vibes, True And Me, and Red: A Crayon’s Story are added to the set of books for sale.
  16. The Therapists will start offering the Gender Dysphoria Bible and the scientific articles for free. Also, the Therapists' Wandering phase will be replaced by a phase where they will actively seek out other Villagers, players, and mobs that are not hostile and throw the Gender Dysphoria Bible and the scientific articles at them. They will also throw those things around whenever they happen to stare at anyone, such as during the Gathering phase.
  17. The banners and shields with the 🏳️‍⚧️ transgender flag colors are added to the set of things available for free which are thrown around.
  18. Bricks are added to the set of things available for free which are thrown around. Now, the Therapists will even throw them at hostile mobs! Due to the way Minecraft's laws of physics work, throwing Bricks can't actually cause any direct physical damage. However, Zombie Villagers and Witches who used to be Therapists will now start attacking the Iron Golems who attack them.
  19. Baby Villagers will now stop running away from Zombie Villagers and Witches who used to be Villagers and they will remain being unafraid of them when they grow up. If they get zombiefied or turn into Witches themselves, they will also not become hostile, except towards the Iron Golems who attack them. If the unafraid Villagers become the majority, the Iron Golems will stop attacking Zombie Villagers and Witches who used to be Villagers. Only unaffected Villagers are counted when determining whether they have reached the majority or not.
  20. Banners, shields, leather armor, carpets, blocks, and glass blocks will now also be available in the colors of the non-binary flag: Yellow, white, purple, and black.
  21. All the other Villagers will now stop running away from Zombie Villagers and Witches who used to be Villagers and not become hostile if they get zombiefied or turn into Witches themselves, and the Iron Golems will not attack Zombie Villagers and Witches who used to be Villagers. The Bricks will be removed from the Therapists' arsenal.
  22. The Gender Dysphoria Bible, the works of Sophie Labelle, and other books who have official versions in other languages will now become available languages other than the ones they were originally written in. This only affects books who have official translations. Exceptions are the transcripts of mangas and animes, who will become available in English. The unofficial translations will be free.
  23. Splash Potions of Weakness and Golden Apples will be added to the list of things for sale. Villagers and Iron Golems will now throw these things at Zombie Villagers whenever they see them, which will cure them if successful. Zombie Villagers who are not hostile will try to heal themselves if they used to be Therapists. If this does not work or if they did not use to be Therapists, they will visit a Therapist during the next Working phase and ask to be cured. The Therapist will then cure them if all necessary resources are available. The patient will then go to work if the Working phase isn't over at this point and try again the next day if the curing didn't work.
  24. Banners, shields, leather armor, carpets, blocks, and glass blocks will now also be available in the colors of the genderfluid flag: Pink, white, purple, black, and blue.
  25. All books will now be available in all languages with native speakers currently alive. All books who are not official translations will be available for free.
  26. Splash Potions of Weakness will be replaced by Extended Splash Potions of Weakness and Lingering Potions of Weakness.
  27. All books will now be available in all other languages, including Ancient languages, constructed languages, and even internet dialects. Since Minecraft doesn't support custom fonts, the languages that are part of the ConScript Unicode Registry will get sections of the Private Use Area assigned to them according to the ConScript Unicode Registry. If a language's alphabet is still not supported and there is no other convention to approximte it using Unicode characters, the book will instead contain its pronounciation using the International Phonetic Alphabet. If that doesn't work either, the books will not be available in that language after all.
  28. Lingering Potions of Weakness will be replaced by Extended Lingering Potions of Weakness.
  29. :3 :3:: :3::<3::: 333 333 3:3 :::<:33 :: :3:: :3::<3::: :<:3 :::3 :3 :: :3:: :3 3::: :3:: :<:: 3:<333::: :::33 3::::3 : ::: : :3:3:3 (pronounced like cat noises)
  30. Stories involving transformations of biological sex via magic or sci-fi technology will be added to the books for sale.
  31. Articles like this one which explain the validity of trans people from a religious perspective are added for various religions.
  32. Banners, shields, leather armor, carpets, blocks, and glass blocks will now also be available in the colors of the gender questioning flag.
  33. Antennae will be added to the list of things for sale. An Antenna is an item that allows you to access the actual internet by sending and receiving Redstone signals from it. It works by decoding the Redstone signals into an HTTP request. If you have no internet access on your device, you will receive the content of the Antenna's cache instead. The cache will be filled with the entirety of Wikipedia, RationalWiki, Asher & Lyric, Everyday Feminism, various transgender-themed subreddits, Lefty Cartoons, and other websites that contain helpful information for trans people by default so that you will have plenty of resources to look at, even on a device without internet access. The websites available in the cache will be listed to you every time you fail at accessing a website.
  34. A book containing instructions on how to build a Redstone computer which makes use of the Antenna in Survival Mode will be added to the set of books for sale.
  35. A portable portal to Celeste Mountain will be added to the things for sale. Entering the portal will quit Minecraft and start Celeste. If you don't have Celeste installed on your device, the Mod will help you install it. Even if Celeste has never come out on that device. The Mod will find a way.
  36. Books with transgender-themed poems and books with instructions on how to make a Redstone contraption that plays certain songs that are considered trans anthems using Music Blocks are added to the set of books for sale.
  37. Two more game portals will be added: dys4ia and Change. dys4ia might be playable on an Android phone using this app.
  38. Some of the games will start becoming available in more and more languages and will offer features like changing the name in your profile and transferring your save data to a different account.

  52. A company will offer to pay for your bus tickets to those therapies.
  53. Shields and leather armor with the color schemes of various pronoun flags will be added to the list of things for sale.
  54. A company will offer to pay for your clothes but only if they are stereotypical for the opposite of your AGAB.
  55. Everyone playing the game gets the opportunity to have their pronouns displayed next to their name.
  56. A company will straight-up just send you money regularly until you die.
  57. The Transcripts for the Matrix movies will be added to the set of books for sale.
  58. A company will send even more money, but not to you but to transgender-related causes. (I wonder if anyone could ever actually reach this stage... 🤔)
  59. Books that have been used to invalidate trans people like religions' Holy Scriptures and 1984 are added to the set of books for sale.
  60. Media which have been the most influential to the English language, such as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, the King James Bible, and the Transcripts for all episodes of The Simpsons are added to the set of books for sale. They will not get translated into non-English languages. Instead, the other languages will get media which have been the most influential to them.
  61. Famous modern texts that have been written for the purpose of transphobia like Irreversible Damage, TERF wars, What is a Woman?, and Empress's manifesto will be added to the set of books for sale. These books have been encrypted in the Mod so that the easiest way to extract their content is to actually play the Mod. Except for the books that cost money to read. Those books are not encrypted. Yes, What is a Woman? is not only a movie but has also been released in the form of a book.
  62. Yes, the Transcripts of movies made for the purpose of transphobia like What is a Woman? and DETRANS are also added. 🙄
  63. Sources debunking those famous modern pieces of transphobia, such as TERF wars, What is a Woman?, and DETRANS are added.
  64. Books that are often used for or against trans people, such as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, 1984, and the Holy Scripture of every religion are added. Yes, I mean every religion. Even niche ones like Scientology, Tolkienism, and Jediism.
  65. The Holy Scripture of custom religions like Pastafarianism, Unicornitarianism, and Discordianism will be added, as well. And also Moby Dick because why not at this point?
  66. And so on and so forth. More and more books and game portals will be added and more and more books and games will be translated into more languages the higher the stage becomes and the more the Minecraft Mod is being updated and maintained. Scientific studies will be replaced with newer and better scientific studies, except for the studies that were the first at discovering something. Those will always stay. Books and game portals will not be added at random but based on the question of: What kinds of Minecraft books and game portals would a trans person who has already read the available books and completed the available games most likely be interested in next? Further priority is to be given to media that have been banned for directly or indirectly promoting transgender content, such as Red: A Crayon’s Story or Marvin Redpost: Is He a Girl?, and media that have been instrumental in helping the transgender movement or add helpful educational information to the other media already in the game. The more information density containing links to good scientific sources the better. But media for purposes of pure entertainment will never stop being added either.

/uj The crafting recipe for Estrogen is based on this article on how to make functioning estrogen with primitive tools. It was the only way to make hormones that was simple enough for me to understand. Also, I still don't know how to make testosterone. Does any of you happen to know a more efficient way to make your own hormones? All I could find was websites where you can buy hormones on the internet.
By the way, there is an actual Estrogen Mod for Minecraft but it's nowhere near as extensive as I just described.

2023.12.06 08:36 PDW232 I think I'll quit making music because of deadmau5

I'm 33 and started making progressive house when I was about 13. then a few years later I started to work for a big EDM retailer and at that time I heard about deadmau5 through his merchandise being sold at that website. at first I didn't thought his music special or innovative in anyway, to me it just sounded like pretty much anything I have heard before, but I became a big fan of him.
of course over the years as he evolved and changed and the technology evolved I liked his stuff more and more.
little after I decided that I wanted to make music, I got involved in graphic design as a side job, but it took over and music was being put little by little aside, but never completely. Just never had time to sit and decide what to do with it.
now I think that even if I had 10 million dollars, I can't make it simply because it feels like Joel did everything I wanted as a producedj. I mean, his brand and how it translates very well to 3D and animation for live shows or videos, toys, merchandise and everything else just tops everything I can come up with it.
I spent the last few years trying to come up with something for myself, but everything feels weird and a copy, like... it's painful to find available usernames nowadays, right? so putting a number in there feels wrong, using a character or gimmick feels wrong, creating anything related to an animal head feels wrong, no matter the animal... and so on...
what do you guys think?

2023.12.01 12:53 sampletracks Ableton User tries Logic... First impressions and comparisons

Currently running the Logic trial after peering over the fence in interest for a while. It's not the absolute latest version (10.7) so it misses some of the newer toys, however, it is enough to get a feel for how the DAW works. Here's my first impressions in case anyone is interested.
Naturally, there are clear differences in workflow and that will of course take time to adjust to. However, having learned "the cartoon DAW" (I think Deadmau5 said that) that is Ableton, it's not particularly intimidating, though it clearly has some depth that needs a little brain power to think about. Take something like sends. These are very clearly marked in Ableton and 2 are automatically created; where they require setting up manually in Logic (and also can be done in a few different ways with the Bus > Aux > Send format). And where Ableton is very much a blank slate, instruments in Logic load by default with individual bus tracks created for you (a feature I have switched off). In some ways Logic is trying to help you out - but in others its depth perhaps adds steps where Ableton has stuff set for you to literally plug & play or drag and drop.
Sidebar: I know it's a small thing, but something as simple as having plugins collected into their relevant categories is kinda neat. Ableton has them grouped in one big list by vendor, but there's no real show/hide or management of those. Now they are split into instruments and effects, the investments I did make actually look a lot more sensible! And speaking of management, the way the stock sounds are categorised is far superior, with genre and instrument type all clearly labelled. (Live 12 looks set to address this, but preset browsing within Ableton isn't the best.)
One of the advantages of Ableton is that since it was designed around Live performance, you can see everything on the rack at the bottom of the screen. And for *some* tasks this is absolutely a benefit. Quickly changing an EQ curve, or adjusting a reverb level it is useful to quickly grab the strip and make that change. However, Ableton is also a modular environment that encourages sound design. And I have to be honest, as someone with slightly ageing eyes at this point, sound designing anything in a tiny tab in the bottom corner of a screen is.... not fun. While it is of course true that you have to individually open Logic plugins, this is also true in Ableton if you are using 3rd party plugins.
My experience is that because Ableton stock sounds are quite experimental for the most part, that encourages the use of 3rd party pluging on my side. And from what I've seen so far, I feel I could get a lot more out of the stock plugins in Logic, partly because the interfaces are big enough for me to not lose my mind staring at a tiny screen. But they are also not as esoteric and experimental as Ableton's sounds are. And that's got to be a benefit, because the options there would likely encourage me to use those plugins rather than buying something in. Specifically the new Sample Alchemy is the sort of thing that sits exactly with my workflow, it's probably the first stock plugin I've seen in ages where I'd consider buying it as a 3rd party plugin.
On the downside, not having Drum Rack to drag & drop samples to would take some getting used to. Though I believe something similar can be achieved with Sampler and loading 16 drum samples in there. If this can be paired with the sequencer, I think that would be pretty dope. But back to that mixer point I can see how being able to route your drums out to various sends, all while playing it all on one MIDI channel takes a little more setup but could also be more flexible. Typically to access mix controls in Ableton, you've got to split the drum track midi & re-group stuff, and it's a known bug that not all midi editing (eg: notes on/off) is respected when you do this. Again Live is fantastically quick on the front end, but trickier when it comes to mixing later on.
Lastly, a note on mixing. The stock mixing plugins in Ableton are adequate, and the limiter is objectively pretty poor. Now Logic has a mastering assistant, and has a decent set of compressors & limiters, it has potentially removed the need for many of my 3rd party plugins bar something like maybe ProQ3. And that last part is my final observation. I'm of the view that variety is the spice of life and that stock only plugins is fine and in fact preferable for some work. But it's nice to add something unique (think Shaperbox or Effectrix) or just very high quality (think uhe, Soundtoys etc.) But taken to its extreme in Ableton, you often find yourself plugging gaps. Because mixing in Ableton is not quite on the same level as Logic, you grab yourself FabFilter bundle, which costs about as much as the DAW itself. Then Ozone for mastering assistance, which is the price of Ableton again. All of a sudden the already expensive DAW is 3x as much as you plug the gaps.
Ableton is great, don't get me wrong. And despite all this, I may well stick with it. But my current Ableton upgrade price is £143 for Live 12, and I paid full whack for 11, so you can do the maths there. Whereas I can buy Logic for £199, and presumably that will be the end of upgrades both for Ableton and for some 3rd party plugins. Yes of course there's the Apple tax for new machines, but the amount I'd save on plugins would likely cover off that shortfall.
Just some observations and ruiminations after poking around trying to set up a template and feel my way into the DAW.

2023.11.28 23:50 iKontact Hardest deadmau5 songs to recreate?

For context, I really love pretty much all of Joel's music, but what really sets him apart from other artists (at least for me) is his sound design, so I've been trying to remake a few of his songs from scratch.
Then, that go me thinking..
Which deadmau5 songs would be the hardest to recreate from scratch?
So what did I do?
I listened to every deadmau5 album (not including singles, or unreleased songs) and ranked them from hardest to "easiest" to recreate (this post only contains the hardest ones).
Why? Idk really, but mainly just to see which ones I could actually have a chance at recreating haha.
The songs I went through are from: Get Scraped, Vexillology, Random Album Title, For Lack of a Better Name, 4X4=12, Album Title Goes Here, While (1<2), & W:/2016ALBUM
Anyways, I chose the following songs because of their intricate percussion, and intricate sound design. Some of them had intricate sound design, but more normal percussive elements, and vise versa, but these songs had both:
Would be curious what y'all think, or if I got some wrong, or if you think I'm missing any:
P.S. I know many of them technically couldn't be because they're made with actual analog synths (not Serum), but from the perspective of time and making it sound pretty close.

2023.11.26 15:21 phantofan89 Top 7 prediction: thoughts?

Headliners
SZA- Something tells me she’s going to do exactly what Kendrick did. Had a successful US tour, barely did any festivals on the first run, and then on the last tour run she’ll be everywhere. Plus it seems pretty likely she’s retiring after this or going on a long hiatus like Kendrick is. It’s just perfect timing, and she’s a great female headliner for the soul type bookings of Roo.
Blink 182- Idk how Paramore signed on for Roo to be a sub, they should fire their manager because they’ve been under billed on this tour. That being said Blink 182’s reunion is as big as it gets, their tour is selling very well, and once again they’re relevant and punk rock is back in. This is such as easy sell, and I’ll double down and say this will be the only rock act in the top 3 due to their popularity and their most likely high booking price.
I’m leaving towards two acts here. They could go the EDM route and go with Skrillex, but I’m not sure if Roo is giving him top 3. I think this will be a lot like when Deadmau5 closed the What. I can’t imagine Skrillex on Which or Other on this tour run, he hasn’t been this big since his first peak back in the day. So I think he will play after the next headliner I’m predicting which is….
Dua Lipa- She’s rumored for Glastonbury, she hasn’t played Roo since I believe 2017, she’s one of the biggest pop stars right now. Her new album is on the way, and it’s going to be huge. This paired with Skrillex LN what would be insane.
A$AP Rocky- At some point we are going to see this dude pop up on lineups. There’s always that rap act that draws a big crowd as an undercard. His next album should be closer to his older material, his status with Rihanna boosts him a lot, and he hasn’t played Roo in years. Expect a big comeback by him.
Hozier- I don’t think he will get the top 3 booking, but definitely top 6. He will be a sub before one of these headliners. He should draw a massive crowd, and his new album is getting very good response: pretty much all his dates are sold out for 2024.
Lana Del Rey- She was set to play for 2020 and it didn’t get to happen, and who knows when Roo will be able to book her again. This just makes too much sense for her to do one more US fest run before going on a long hiatus after the success of this album and tour.
So in brief
Headliners: Dua Lipa/Skrillex LN What, SZA, Blink
Subs: Hozier, A$AP, Lana
I think this would sell very well, and with the right undercard: Roo is probably heading for another sell out.
