Hello, I'm using handbrake GUI 20240519140645-5edf59c1d-master on linux (nightly flatpak version). Since it's using SVT AV1 v2.1.0 I wanted to test the variance boost feature however I cannot get it to work.
What I've tried so far:
In additional Options field: --enable-variance-boost=1, --enable-variance-boost 1, enable-variance-boost=1, enable-variance-boost 1

When using enable-variance-boost=1:variance-boost-strength=4 i get [15:55:36] encsvtav1: error parsing option variance-boost-strength: 4.
But when using enable-variance-boost=1:variance-boost-strength=4: I get:

[15:56:39] encsvtav1: error parsing option : (null) 

But all the other parameters set correctly so it seems like the last argument always errors out.

Important Notice: Before you switch to the new beta version of the game, it's absolutely crucial that you back up your save files. Failing to do so could result in the potential loss of your progress. The new strings are not localized yet and stability hasn't yet been thoroughly tested. Some balancing changes are still experimental.
To access your saves on Steam for Manor Lords.

1. Press Win + E
2. Paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\ManorLords\Saved\SaveGames into the search bar.

How to Access the Experimental Branch:

1. Open Steam
2. Right-click on Manor Lords in your library
3. Select Properties
4. Navigate to the BETAS tab
5. Enter the password: veryNiceBasket
6. Select "pre_release" from the "Beta participation" dropdown
7. Wait for the game to update (restart Steam if needed)
8. Launch the game

What's inside:
This update focuses primarily on balancing and bugfixes. Key changes include:

• Militia Squads: You can now hire 6 militia squads even if you already have a retinue and mercenaries employed. Future builds will connect this cap to the Lord's rank.
• Sheep Breeding: The sheepbreeding development branch has been capped, and sheep no longer spawn exponentially.
• Fields, Harvests, and Fertility: Significant improvements have been made to field overlays, crop prediction, and ox and worker behavior for enhanced accuracy and optimization.
• Barter and Trading: Numerous fixes implemented; on-foot traders can now carry 5 items per trip.
• King's Tax and Trade Route Costs: These have been toned down from the levels introduced in version 0.7.960.
• Loserville Bug: Fixed the "Loserville" mercenary bug.
• Marketplace Distribution: Improvements made to the distribution within the marketplace.
• Experimental Feature: Added a "Allow market stall setup" toggle to prevent workers/inhabitants of certain buildings from setting up market stalls.
• Construction Reserve: You can now set a construction reserve for buildings using planks for crafting, like the Joiner's shop.

Gameplay & Balance:

• Capped sheep breeding to 1 new lamb every 10 days max.
• [Experimental] Villagers are only allowed to fetch water from the well nearest their home, except in case of a fire.
• [Experimental] Yield will never increase past 100% growth to keep gameplay intuitive.
• [Experimental] Even at 0% fertility, a tiny yield is still possible.
• [Experimental] Max yield per plant increased from 2 to 4, although the Hunting Grounds policy still reduces it by half.
• [Experimental] Plant yield rate reduced by half to encourage early harvest in emergency modes.
• The militia squad limit is now 6, regardless of retinue or mercenaries employed; future connection to the Lord's rank planned.
• [Experimental] Doubled the fertility regeneration rate on fallow fields and from fertilization.
• [Experimental] Slowed all plant growth by around 30% for balanced gameplay between field and vegetable crops.
• [Experimental] Tree growth rate slowed by around 30% upon player requests for more impactful forest management.
• [Experimental] Archer range increased by 1.5x with damage also increased from 12 to 15.
• [Experimental] Cost of opening new trade routes returned to linear scaling.
• [Experimental] Carrying capacity of on-foot trading post workers increased from 1 to 5.
• [Experimental] Royal tax restructured: No tax for the first 5 years, then 1 Treasury per citizen after 5 years, 2 Treasury per citizen after 10 years, 3 Treasury per citizen after 15 years.
• [Experimental] Adjusted granary and storehouse worker slots to unify to 3 families for lv1 and 6 families for lv2.

Minor Changes:

• Removed optimization where only every nth plant affected the fertility values due to display errors.
• Improved accuracy of fertility overlay colors and crop yield predictions.
• Added missing tooltips to minomajor trades.
• Enabled setting "trade rule" for advanced trades without an established route; items not available will show as NA.
• Reworked the construction reserve system to include various goods like planks.
• Optimized inventory array functions.
• Enabled disallowing certain families or workplaces from setting up market stalls.
• Tuned how "current region" is calculated in the UI for more comfortable building on the edge between two player-owned regions.
• Ensured iron and clay deposits do not generate on steep terrains.
• "MODDED" may now display after the version number to aid bug reporting.

Crash Fixes:

• Fixed a crash related to deleting a building when pathfinding obstacles are being verified.

Bug Fixes:

• Addressed issues with employed traders going to trade points without an open trade route.
• Corrected early movement of farm workers to transport tasks despite available crops.
• Resolved inaccurate predicted yield displays.
• Fixed rotation issues in villagers after dismounting.
• Addressed respect of work area limits by farming oxen.
• Fixed blurry appearance of gilded aventail houndskull helmets in the retinue editor.
• Corrected non-drawing of the forest mask.
• Fixed bandit camps respawning on loading due to unsaved "lastBanditCampSpawnedDay."
• Ensured villagers set up market stalls to sell their produce like vegetables.
• Corrected the wrong apple basket carry animation.
• Fixed wealth transfer issues during barter.
• Ensured bartering traders return the correct number of items based on barter value and carrying capacity.
• Addressed overpacking by bartering traders in their origin region.
• Resolved trading post exports not proceeding after the trader reaches the destination.
• Corrected the distribution of multiple instances of the same good type to a single plot, which left outlying houses undersupplied.
• Fixed crop rotation to fallow causing farmers to harvest invisible itemID_0, which stopped supply dumps from being cleared.
• Addressed issues with villagers staying at homes indefinitely if a bandit camp is spawned, thinking the region is under attack.
• Ensured proper saving of mercenary company arrival regions.
• Stopped granary workers from stealing ale from the tavern.
• Fixed interrupted livestock exports due to sheep herd behavior.
• Ensured livestock trader jobs trigger import tasks when buying livestock from another region.
• Corrected the missing "hunger" popup artwork.
• Fixed a typo in the credits list.

Cosmetics:

• Tuned field dirt UV wiggle to make the huge vegetable gardens less wavy.
• Improved the precision for snapping terraforming meshes like mines or sawpits to the ground.
• Made leaf clumps smaller and disabled the parallax mapping to reduce distortions.
• [WIP] Updated the visit mode character model for the green lady portrait to be female, still in progress.
• Cleaned up combat animations.

Remember how vaults always had rotating +5 whispers attached to one of them so you could farm whispers and paragon Exp at the same time by using the corresponding nightmare sigil? I want the same thing for nightmare dungeons. It is technically possible to do now, but the chances of getting a sigil that corresponds to current whisper dungeons are extremely low due to the high number of dungeons, and you'd never bother to check if you had one anyway. So what i want is a deterministic way to do that, like a "key of nightmares" item that makes a dungeon of your choice into a nightmare dungeon. People will of course use that to speed up glyph farming by taking fast dungeons like the Domhainne tunnels over and over again, but i say let them. I really enjoyed vaults because they were so useful for farming glyph exp, whispers and tuning stones all at once, and i want that back. i hope someone at blizzard sees this.

• Nasdaq: trading flat at 18,665. Support will now be at around 18,350.
• Ger40: Slightly lower today, at 18,600. Some slight profit taking near the highs.
• HKG50: Moving lower again for 2nd day in a row. Now at 19,240. Yesterday, was at 19,750 at one point. So down 2.7% across yesterday and today.
• Oil - hit 80 yesterday on WTI but was rejected off there. Lower today to 78, down by 1.5%. Back to range bound.
• Gold: Trading at 2418, Support at 2400.
• VIX: After getting crushed to 12 yesterday, bounced up off of there, now higher.

FX:

• DXY moving flat today and yesterday, around 104.5
• Had fallen to 100d moving average after CPI then moved higher, bouncing from there.

• Oil - hit 80 yesterday on WTI but was rejected off there. Lower today to 78, down by 1.5%. Back to range bound.

Basic Experience Optimization
Q: I mean, this is just a test, but seriously, there are way too many optimization issues and bugs. Shouldn't your top priority be fixing those before anything else? Like, speeding up the optimization and compatibility stuff... Also, the combat in the game feels too vague, lacking a hit feel. After all, it's year 2024 already and it's not supposed to be that difficult to bring hit feel into the game.
In previous playtests, we found some basic user experience issues that really messed up the gameplay for our players. In our ongoing version upgrades, we'll make sure to tackle these problems head-on.
Our top priority is to improve performance optimization. We will focus on enhancing overall game performance, reducing power consumption, continuously fine-tuning adaptability and compatibility, and addressing any issues specific to different device models that are identified during the playtest.
In the meantime, we will significantly improve the performance of the storyline animations and effects on mobile devices without compromising the overall performance.
Next, regarding the issue of the unsatisfactory hit feel that everyone has mentioned, we've set up a special task force that includes action designers, animators, special effects experts, and sound engineers. They will be working on enhancing the combat hit feel from all angles, such as synchronizing the hits and improving the sound effects.
Regarding the kill sound effect reported, we will add it in the next update to really make the fights exhilarating. In addition, we've made a whopping 120 tweaks and improvements to early-stage quests as well as the accessibility and experience of the daily system in order to enhance the gaming experience to the max. We've also fixed the bugs that players have reported the most in this playtest.
Peripheral System Optimization
Q: I've seen a lot of feedback on daily quests and dungeons already, so let me talk about Professions and casual game modes. I strongly request the inheritance of equipment empowerment!! Also, could you do something about the fishing mechanism? I've fished 100 times and messed up more than 40 of them. It's supposed to casual game, but why is playing it so frustrating?
We've been listening to your opinions about Professions and other PVE modes including the Exploration, based on which we've made some improvements and updates.
Equipment empowerment is a focal issue. After discussions, we've decided that empowerment won't just be a one-time thing any more. Instead, it can now be inherited by the next equipment you put on.
We also received a lot of feedback on the Exploration gameplay in previous test.
As mentioned earlier, we will unhook Inscribed Stones from the Exploration system, bringing Exploration back to its original design intent. Also, we will reduce the grinding required for the Manual of Destiny. On one hand, we will reduce the difficulty and time needed to complete it. On the other hand, completing quests will produce more Destiny Tokens.
Fishing is supposed to be a fun and relaxing activity for everyone, but even fishing enthusiasts have complained that it was too difficult in this playtest. That is why we have decided to ditch one of the fishing techniques while making the others easier, allowing everyone to catch fish 90% of the time. In Tarisland, you'll never end up empty-handed. Finally, World Bosses will now be available across servers so players can team up with those on other servers to take on the World Boss together. No more waiting around for ages! To enhance your social experience, we've made improvements and added new features to Guild, Team Lobby, Team Scheduling, and other social features. For instance, we've increased the maximum number of guild members to 200, optimized the interface and interactions in the Team Lobby, and introduced a scheduling system for teaming up, which will be a key tool to facilitate socializing, making it easier for players to team up and improving everyone's efficiency in raiding.

He was one of the first people to write about the Law of Attraction. Long before Rhonda Byrne discovered the secret that one's positive thoughts are powerful magnets that attract wealth, health, and happiness, Trine already knew it.
5. Authentic Happiness: Using the New Positive Psychology to Realize Your Potential for Lasting Fulfillment by Martin Seligman: I have read about 80 pages and I am enjoying Seligmen's friendly, engaging writing style so far. Also, there are interesting facts about each person's 'range' of happiness being fixed on a spectrum.Great so far. Will attempt to update review when I have completed the book.
6. Happiness Hypothesis: Putting Ancient Wisdom to the Test of Modern Science by Jonathan Haidt: Jonathon Haidt is a terrifically productive thinker about psychology. This is book is a credo and a guide book to your own happiness via an accomplished romp through the psychological literature which Haidt uses to explore the truths of ancient religion. I'm surprised it's not a wild best seller, but I think I know why - it doesn't have an singular and catchy formula for your salvation which you can learn in your lunchtime and hear about ad nauseam on late night TV infomercials. Just well written, well thought out commentary on the formula for a happy and fulfilled life distilled from the psychological literature.
7. It's All in Your Head: Thinking Your Way to Happiness by Stephen M. Pollan, Mark Levine: If you've ever wanted to have a conversation with someone on a normal level about undoing negative thinking patterns, this book is about the closest you'll ever get in written form. The style is conversational, pragmatic, and realistic. Kind of like talking to a favorite uncle or aunt who is just "on the mark" about dealing with life. The book focuses on 8 behaviothought patterns that hinder us from being happy NOW, and provides simple, easy "exercises" to do to help overcome them. It is also one of those rare self-help books that the whole family can read, enjoy, and profit from. In my opinion, this book is better than any other I've read by Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Nathaniel Branden, and many others. If you've ever thought you can be happier, YOU CAN, and this book can help you get there.
8. Handbook on the Economics of Happiness by Luigino Bruni, Pier Luigi Porta: This Handbook provides an unprecedented forum for discussion of the economic issues relating to happiness. It reviews the more recent literature and offers the interested reader an insight into the vast scope of the field in terms of the theory, its applications and also experimental design. The Handbook also gives substantial indications as to the future direction of research in the field, with particular regard to policy applications and developing an economics of interpersonal relations which includes reciprocity and social interaction theory.
9. Freeing your child from negative thinking: powerful, practical strategies to build a lifetime of resilience, flexibility, and happiness by Tamar E. Chansky: This book is excellent for those who wish to embrace Food Combining i.e. what has become known as the Hay Diet. It is where one avoids mixing starch-based foods and protein-based foods in the same meal.
10. The 7 Steps of Spiritual Intelligence: The Practical Pursuit of Purpose, Success and Happiness Volume by Richard A. Bowell: Pioneering researcher and educator Richard Bowell delivers the first and only self-help guide to the power of spiritual intelligence (SQ)-the next evolutionary stage in our pursuit of purpose, success, and happiness.
