2024.05.13 15:39 foreverdownvoted1 So here’s a short Miata story.

I pulled up to the Lake Mart gas station convenience store and parked near the entrance in front of the ice machine. It wasn’t a parking spot but I have a small car, a Miata, so I figured no one would mind, plus I would just be in and out real quick - all I needed was a pack of smokes and two white Monster energy drinks. I flung open the door and got out with ease since I had the top down(when the top is up it’s like crawling into a coffin which is kinda cozy in its own way but still hard to get in and out of). I was wearing cheap, black Amazon sweatpants and crocs and a very expensive beige long sleeve V cut sweater. It was a mismatch of the highest order but I didn’t give a shit. “That ain’t a parking spot buddy!” I hear coming from the Ford F-250 filling up with poor-grade 87 unleaded at the pump, the truck isn’t even a manly diesel. I glare at him and yell back: “How’s the ride in that thing? Probably bounces you around a lot on these roads and reminds you of riding your boyfriend.” A very overweight shit kicker type of fella walks around from the side of the F-250. His boots were covered in dried mud along with his Carrhart overalls. It wasn’t fresh mud but definitely from the previous week’s worth of laboring somewhere horrible. “What did you say to me!?” He bellowed. There was some sort of food stain on the front of his T-shirt, possibly mayonnaise or some other condiment. Strange tho since it was only 7:00AM so he clearly wore the shirt the day or days before. “Oh, sorry.” I said to him after seeing his size. “I didn’t realize you were so big, you must be more of a doggy style power bottom type.” “What the fuck does that mean?” he said to me. “It means you’re too fucking fat to be on top of your boyfriend. He rails you from behind.” “Oh that’s it you fuck!” he yelled and started to run at me. Oh shit I thought, I really let my mouth get me into a situation for no real reason. But actually, no fuck this guy, he started it by telling me I can’t park in front of the ice machine. That’s clearly a violation of the Bill of Rights and flagrant treading on me. He was fairly fast for a fat guy but I knew I was faster and had more endurance. I stood there at first near the front of my Miata and he was running full speed and as he closed the distance he stretched his arms out with the intention of grabbing me(to probably try and make out with me). At the last second I strafed to the right behind the safety of the front left panel of my car. Him being inertia laden, was unable to change direction in time to grab me. His arms flailed to his left at me but missed by a wide margin, He contorted his body in trying to grab me in such a way it forced his legs to cross with the next stride and he tripped over his own feet, took two awkward stumbles and ate shit on the asphalt parking lot, landing on his right shoulder before tumbling over himself and into the ice machine. “Dude you just ate shit!” I said to him pointing and laughing. “You’re probably used to it though when you eat your boyfriend’s ass every night.” “You fucking goddamn…” He said as he got to one knee. “Oh no, don’t propose to me, I’m already in a committed relationship…with your mom.” I replied. He finally got to his feet and despite it being only 50 feet that he ran, he was already wheezing. He reached to his right pocket and pulled out a small pocket knife, maybe 3 inches long only but long enough to do some serious damage, then charged at me again. I ran to the rear of my car and put the car between me and him, he tried to slash at me across the trunk but I easily dodged it as he came up feet short. He started chasing me again and I ran to the front of my car and as he ran up to me again, I ran to the rear of my car like a toddler playing “you can’t catch me”. I started laughing at this thought and each time he ran a pass at me I said that to him. “You can’t catch me big fella! You can’t catch me!” I didn’t have to put forth too much effort but I could tell it was taking its toll on him. He had the stubbornness of a retarded mule and refused to give up to save some sense of pride and honor. We played this game for maybe five complete laps around my car before he realized he had no chance of getting to me. He paused for a moment to decide what to do next to save face and not look like such a fat bitch then it donned on him. “You little fuck.” The sweat was pouring down his forehead. “You got a spare tire in the trunk of this shitbox rice burning beanermobile?” He said and eye’d up my right front tire and pulled his arm back. There wasn’t much I could do so as he began to lunge his arm forward to puncture my tire, I let out the loudest and highest pitch rape scream I could make. It was an ear piercing banshee scream and it must have startled him because he missed the tire and hit the fender causing his sweaty hand to slip from the grip and violently slide down the grip and onto the blade of his knife cutting a large gash in his fingers and palm. “FUCKKKKK!” he screamed, still clutching the knife. The Indian clerk that owned and operated the store must have been alerted by my banshee scream and came rushing out the door. “What going on here!?” he yelled, looking concerned and confused. He saw I was standing there and recognized me immediately. I had to be one of the biggest spenders at the store, buying at least a pack of smokes a day and two energy drinks like clockwork and very often getting food for lunch and always paid cash which they loved. They liked me and knew me as well as you’d know a frequent customer. He saw the fat fella was holding a knife but also bleeding. “He chased me and tried to slash my tire.” I said and the clerk nodded and believed me. “That’s not a parking spot!” the big fella said. “He park there every day, never cause any problem. You buddy, you not welcome here. Go now, leave or I call the police!” The big fella glared at me holding his bleeding palm with his other hand now to apply pressure. I didn’t say a word, I just grinned at the big fella and he turned around and went back to his truck, got in and drove off, peeling out with one wheel as he left. I went inside and the clerk apologized to me for the behavior of the big fella even though it wasn’t his fault obviously. I assured him it wasn’t an issue and got my normal supplies and left. I got in my car and hit the vape(I won’t smoke in the car), started the engine and put on some Tool. My adrenaline was still high so I took a deep breath, hit the vape again, and started the engine then pulled out of my personal parking spot. I pulled out onto the road, looking both ways first but not paying attention to the vehicle far down the road and started my short drive home. It was one complete Tool song for the round trip if I drove like a sane person and I causally accelerated. I hadn’t made it a mile before I noticed a F-250 in my rear view mirror growing in size rapidly. It was the big fella and he was going to run me down in a way that wouldn’t exhaust or embarrass him. “Oh fuck” I said and took another vape hit then downshifted into 3rd gear and put the pedal to the floor. The Miata’s engine woke from its slumber and quickly ran the RPM’s up to 6000, putting me back in my seat the entire time. I shifted into 4th and floored it again. The road was awful and full of potholes but the sporty nimbleness of the Miata made avoiding the major potholes and bumps a fun exercise in technical driving. The big fella had a huge run up on me however and was still closing the distance on me even though I was speeding along at close to 90 miles per hour. Either he was an idiot or didn’t know the roads or likely both but as I glanced in the rearview mirror I could see the truck take hit after hit from the potholes. It lurched and bounced each time but the venerable American truck took each hit in stride and held its ground with me. I was doing 105 MPH now on a shitty backcountry road in a 45MPH zone and the F-250’s speed limiter likely kicked in at that speed so I maintained 105 as we approached the curves. I was nervous because I had only one option and that was to navigate a downhill S-turn meant for 35MPH at 105MPH while avoiding potholes that would tear off one of my tires. If I slowed down any, this maniac behind me could plow into me or give me the Pitt Maneuver and spin me out which would inevitably lead to a rollover where I definitely would die. “Fuck it” I said, grabbed another gear and started pulling away from the F-250. There was another option that just came to me ¼ mile from the S-turn and immediately opted for it. Despite the pain of sacrificing it, I lobbed a full 16oz can of white Monster out of the top of my car like a hand grenade. It crashed into the truck’s grill and penetrated through the grill and into the radiator like an armor piercing anti-tank cannon shell. A plume of steam erupted from the truck and I let off the throttle only to see him start gaining ground. I put it to the floor again and clenched my asshole as I was seconds away from barreling down upon the S-turn. I could see far enough ahead that there was no oncoming traffic so I steered as far left as I could to get the best angle entering the turn. The car’s lane detection warning system beeped at me and I told it to fuck off, I was racing for my life here. I tracked into the turn, apexed in the corner and tracked back out into the next turn. I felt myself get lighter when I entered the turn because it was downhill but the Miata stayed true and glued to the road like a Formula 1 car. In the first part of the S-turn, I had to keep the center line in the center of my car because of the massive canyons in the asphalt on the right tire track that Penn Dot hadn’t addressed in several years. There were more potholes but they were minor and at this speed the car glided over them. I had made it halfway through the S-turn and now steered left again and apexed perfectly in the outward curve and accelerated out of it. The next stretch had mild curves that I wasn’t worried about and I got back in my proper lane, now about to check my mirror to see what the big fella’s fate was. I heard the tires squeal as he tried to slow down to make the first curve of the S-turn. He knew nothing of racing despite having decals on his back window of some local hayseed race car driver. When he braked in the middle of the turn, all the weight shifted forward and he lost all rear grip. Combining that with trying to steer right, caused the rear end of the truck to slide out from behind him and he spun 90 degrees. The left front tire caught the canyon pothole and sent the truck into a barrel roll down the hill. I watched it all in my mirror and I slammed on my breaks. The truck barrel rolled at least a half dozen times before hitting the left side guard rail and bounced into the middle of the road. Steam was billowing from the front of the truck and I could see all the airbags had deployed. I pulled the e-brake, did a half turn to slow down and stop, smoke seethed from my tires and when the car came to a halt in the middle of the road, I put on my 4-ways. I then heard a woman yell to me from the nearby house. “Oh my god!” She yelled. “Are you okay!” She saw the smoke and must have thought there was a fire or something coming from my car. “Yeah I’m fine, but that fella probably isn’t” I said motioning to the heap of metal that used to be a F-250. “I saw the whole thing! I was getting my mail when I heard an engine revving”, the woman said, “Why were you going so fast!? Racing?” She was accusatory and slightly distressed or even angry. I turned my head away from the wreck and looked at her. She was in her late 20s, blonde hair, large and possibly fake breasts, blue eyes and wearing the cutest and most sensual peach colored sundress. If she had makeup on it was minor at most and her face held the natural beauty of an entire Miss Universe contest. “I was racing for my life. The guy is a lunatic, he tried to stab me at the gas station then started chasing me. I knew he couldn’t handle that turn but I knew my car could. Looks like I was right.” I said to her. She looked at me seemingly satisfied with my response but asked, “Why did he try to stab you?” “Because I called him gay.” She laughed and smiled thinking I was joking and was about to say something else when we both heard the big fella yell for help. “We prob should check on him” I said and took a deep hit from my vape exhaling more white vapor than was coming from the wrecked truck. A car pulled up and the driver asked if anyone called 911, I said no and he started dialing. “I’m Michelle”, she said and extended her left hand to me to help me out of the car. She presented her left hand palm down so I could clearly see that she didn’t have a wedding ring. I took her hand and got out of the car then released her hand. It was just a short moment but it lasted for decades. I felt an electricity in her touch, the softness of her skin but the strength and firmness of an unyielding woman who was not unsure of herself. She was breeding stock and with each step she took, her breasts bounced slightly and jiggled revealing that they were indeed real and without a doubt perfect. “I’ve never seen anyone drive that fast through that turn before.” she continued. There’s at least a dozen wrecks here a year from people doing the speed limit and you were going how fast?” “105” I replied. “Maybe 110 when I finally hit the brakes.” “You’re insane.” She said and smiled, then adjusted her sundress, undoing one of her buttons revealing a little bit more cleavage. Her nipples were perky and nearly penetrated the fabric. “Its hot this morning…What kind of car is that? It looks German.” “It’s a Miata. Its basically a super car. It has 180hp but don’t let that fool you, the car only weighs a little more than 2200 pounds. Okay, so you've got to understand why the Mazda Miata is such a big deal—it's not just a car; it's a whole vibe! Picture this: It's super lightweight, right? That makes it incredibly fun to drive; it’s like it's practically gliding along the road. And it's got this perfectly balanced rear-wheel drive, so it handles like a dream, especially on curves. Seriously, it's like dancing... but with a car!” I paused for a few moments to catch my breath then added “Plus, it’s affordable, which is crazy considering how sporty it is. It’s like the everyman’s sports car. You can actually own a roadster without breaking the bank!” “Oh well, that’s nice I guess.” She said and continued, “I have to go now actually, I need to…like do some…chores…I mean get ready for work. Bye.” She buttoned up her sundress then ran off back to her driveway. “Are you a fucking idiot?” I heard the big fella yell. I watched as Michelle sprinted up her driveway, not looking back once even though sirens were blaring and the firetrucks and ambulances had arrived. “You had her melting in your hand and you sperged out like a retard about your car? What the hell is wrong with you? I don’t even want to kick your ass anymore, that was the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”

2024.05.12 23:47 matte_purple Uniform Ranker 2023: West Virginia Mountaineers

Howdy to the beautiful people of CFB! Welcome to my ranking of the 2023 uniforms for West Virginia Mountaineer Football! I thought I would rank WVU after their new uniforms were released a few weeks ago. I intend on ranking most of the Big XII teams and new PAC additions (Arizona and Utah) soon. In fact, I already covered Colorado, ASU, Oklahoma State and TCU if you want to scratch that uniform itch. If you are interested in my thoughts regarding the Big XII uniform season, check out my 2023 Season-in-Review Post or my recent 2023 Uniform Awards post, or recent 2023 rankings, which are all up top in my profile. If you want to go back further, check out these 2022 posts: 2022 Uniform Awards and Big XII Uniform Tracker 2022: Season-in-Review. (Sorry for the hyperlink inconvenience, but Reddit hates when I put links in the top paragraph, for whatever reason.) But for now, let’s check out what the Mountaineers donned in their much-improved 2023 Big 12 season, featuring some facts, stats, and history. Plus, we’ll maybe have a look at their new 2024 suits towards the end! As always, feel free to disagree with me or tell me if my rankings hit home. I’m interested in hearing what you think, or in seeing how y’all would rearrange the rankings!

I’m u/matte_purple, and let's 3,2,1 go!

11. Yellow/Yellow/Yellow - Week 4 vs TTU (W, 20-13)
Link: https://imgur.com/gwCbBKT
The Gold Rush tradition in Morgantown started in 2007, and has had a pretty interesting history, including a College Gameday appearance, a 2012 heartbreaker against OU, a 2013 30-21 smash of No. 11 OSU, and several other wild finishes in WV. While I love the history and the crowd involvement, this 2019 jersey template is just too blank to properly allow gold uniforms to shine (I know I put “Yellow” in the combo, that's purely for convenience, I mean no disrespect at all). The new 2024 uniforms - which we’ll showcase at the end - do a much better job of providing a structure to the Gold Rush look, but these are, again, simply too much and too bold.
10. Yellow/Gray/Gray - Week 2 vs Duquesne (W, 56-17)
Link: https://imgur.com/pE4X5Er
Ah, the gray. We’ll see another gray example later on, but I think the gray suits just work out better when mixed with blue. The yellow creates an odd balance, and makes the suit feel top heavy. Yellow pants may have helped the look, but I’m not sure I like that idea, either. I do like the complementary yellow font outline to the helmet, and hey, it was a brand-new look! That’s got to count for something.
9. Blue/Blue/Blue - Military Appreciation Week 10 vs BYU (W, 37-7)
Link: https://imgur.com/fkLoxWr
Nothing inherently wrong with this look, I think that, again, it falls victim to the monochrome pitfalls of this 2019 update, just like the yellow/gold. The Military Edition state outline is an awesome touch, and the blue really isn't that bad compared with an all gray or all yellow, it’s just not a top pick. This same uniform and decal combo was worn in 2022 against OU, so it must be a tradition thing. The choices start getting a lot harder from here on out.
8. Blue/White/Yellow - Week 1 at Penn State (L, 15-38)
Link: https://imgur.com/11U3r4t
For some reason, this is always a WVU fan favorite. For the life of me I can’t figure it out. Anyone who has tuned in to my tracker knows I don’t really like tri-color looks, and this is another instance where it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe I need some convincing, maybe I’m wrong, who knows? It just doesn’t work for me. On another note, how did WVU select the Mountaineer as a mascot? Well, it's built into the location. West Virginia is known as the Mountain State because it is the only state entirely within the Appalachian Mountain region, out of the 13 states that the Appalachian Mountains pass through. Thus, residents are known as Mountaineers. The word is even featured on the state seal/motto - Montani Semper Liberi (English: "Mountaineers are Always Free"), which has remained steadfast since the state’s founding in 1863. This same phrase is embroidered on the inside collar of the uniforms, new and old. As far as we’re aware, WVU sports programs went by “the Mountaineers” starting in 1890, and have continued ever since!
7. Blue/White/White - Week 7 at UH (L, 39-41)
Link: https://imgur.com/YMpguqt
This was an absolutely psycho game to watch, featuring UH’s wild tip drill antics wearing their black alternates. Here, WVU wore a mostly white uniform capped off by their blue “Cue Country Roads” helmet introduced in this year’s Backyard Brawl. And yes, this look is clean. The font differentiates the white nicely, the helmet is busy enough to compensate for some of the stark white, and the suit is - of course - helped by a night game against a team wearing black. I won’t blab anymore, they're nice. The white is just a little bit too simplistic here. Pant stripes will definitely help in the new suits.
6. Blue/Gray/Blue - Week 13 at Baylor (W, 34-31)
Link: https://imgur.com/e3tfaj6
One of the more eclectic away combos I’ve ever seen, this look makes me sad that the gray has been officially put out of commission. It’s actually the first time WVU wore gray on the road and only the sixth gray game usage since 2019. It definitely works better as a road combo against the dark green of Baylor. The blue looks great sandwiching the gray suit, but the yellow outline feels a little out of place in this uniform as opposed to the white or blue majority uniforms. Lots of upside, but just enough complaints to keep it at the 6 spot.
5. White/White/White - Week 11 at OU (L, 20-59)
Link: https://imgur.com/c1pLWOM
I can’t get over these beautiful helmets. West Virginia’s helmet is a work of art. Using the decal popularized by the “Cue Country Roads” uniforms from the past two years on an otherwise clean white shell was a stroke of genius. The more detailed logo draws the eye compared to the stark white jersey and pants, while the large blue numbers help in breaking up the field. Still, this look may have looked a little bit better with some blue pants, or at least more blue accessories like shoes, belts, and gloves. The blue facemask is a start, but yeah, I like this look a lot. Still, the helmet puts these way up on my list.
4. Blue/White/Blue - Week 9 at UCF (W, 41-28)
Link: https://imgur.com/LbwU4O0
While I like the blue/gray sandwich in #6, this is definitely a more improved version. The overall flow of the uniform feels better here. No outline on the numbers helps keep things clean and matches the top and bottom nicely. How did WVU originally pick their colors? Simple. They’re featured in the state seal. These colors were adopted by the school in 1890, inspired by the West Virginia state seal, featuring a boulder that has been inscribed with the state’s founding - June 20, 1863. In front of the boulder lies two crossed rifles and a Grecian liberty cap as a symbol of the state's fight for liberty. The two men on either side of the boulder represent agriculture and industry. It’s as simple as that! This program really does represent state pride like no other. We're almost to the top spots!
3. Blue/Blue/Yellow - Week 8 vs OSU (L, 48-34) and Week 12 vs UC (W, 42-21)
Link: https://imgur.com/lU29RgY
Ah. The podium is here. These next three picks were all highly debated and could very well go either way. This look is obviously the most traditional of the wardrobe, and has been worn three times since I started tracking publicly in 2022. And of course, it’s one of the most recognizable combos for the Mountaineers in general. For me, I am especially reminded of Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, and Geno Smith lighting up the scoreboard against Baylor with Terrence Williams in 2012. I was just beginning to enjoy and follow college football more often, and this game really sparked an interest in me, especially as 2012 was a good KSU year AND WVU’s Big 12 opener. The yellow pants provide a great contrast to the blue. And the flying WV logo is one of the few “letter logos” that I think works really well. You just can’t beat it despite the pitfalls of the 2019 template. The 2024 version will be a sight to behold and could very well cement itself in first place next year. Beautiful, classic, and a no-brainer pick for a medal.
2. White/White/Blue - Week 5 at TCU (W, 24-21)
Link: https://imgur.com/w8cFhTK
What sets this one apart from all the other away combos? Unlike a lot of the other WVU suits, this one almost completely removes yellow while still feeling balanced in color. The only yellow on these are splashed on the helmet and hip logo. The blue may originally seem to weigh the look down, but once you add the large blue logo on the helmet and balance it with the almost all white on the rest of the suit, you get a magnificent away look. It combines the benefit of a crisp white out with the “semi-symmetry” - if you will - from a X/Y/X sandwich look. Just beautiful, and the most “modern” feeling of the year’s combos.
1. Blue/Yellow/Blue - “Cue Country Roads 2“ Week 3 vs Pitt (W, 17-6) and Mayo Bowl vs UNC (W, 30-10)
Link: https://imgur.com/prhh2wU
And finally, first place! Last year, we saw the amazing and incredible away version of this uniform. This year’s home version featured a perfect gold usage which felt balanced yet bold. The symmetrical blues, liberal use of gold, sublimated WV road map, the consistent striping on the helmet and pants, “Mountaineers” wordmark on the chest all topped off by that immaculate gold WV state outline is oh so wonderful. I mean, how is it possible to kick this much ass? It’s everything wonderful about the away uniforms added to a more traditional color scheme that, wow. Honestly, the picture itself does a great job. Creative, symmetrical, and a color scheme everyone loves, this is a grand slam design.
Bonus: Let’s check out the Mountaineer’s brand-spanking-new 2024 collection!

The 2024 suits honor the past traditions of WVU uniforms while also improving on the initial 2019 update through the new Nike F.U.S.E template. They maintain the updated 2019 color scheme and font, feature the fairly new state-outline WVU logo from the 2022 and 2023 “Cue Country Roads” alternates (both on the collar and helmet options), and add on some striping, shoulder accents, and wordmarks. The Flying WV returned to the sleeves for the first time since 2012 with wide acclaim. Also a feature of the Don Nehlen era are the pants stripes dating back to the 60s-90s. The most controversial piece of the uniform are those USC reminiscent 2007-2012 shoulder accents. My overall thoughts? It's a great update. 2019 was far too plain. The color scheme helps, but here the colors get a wonderful structure to build upon. The WV sleeves, the wordmark, and pant stripes are amazing touches, but I think the shoulder accents just add a little too much clutter to an otherwise perfect front. Overall, the helmets are mostly unchanged, the jerseys are a slight improvement, and the pants are a massive step up. I’d give the update an 8/10! Additionally, the Mountaineers released an inspired “Coal Dust” alternate honoring the storied tradition of West Virginian coal mining. They use a unique and fascinating coal pattern pulled straight off an actual coal mine tour, incorporate a black and white state-outline logo on the helmet that is to die for, and use gray/white vertical stripes in a way that tastefully mimics high visibility vests worn by miners. The center stripe on the helmet is my favorite touch, featuring the coal pattern used on the uniform, but with a white to transparent gradient mimicking the light of a miner's headlamp. I mean, this is a blackout look done right. I am so excited to see these in action. Combined together, the main and alternate looks for WVU are all very exciting and definite improvements!
If you’ve got some time, send a nice email to the athletics department design team of Kristin Coldsnow, Matt Wells, Michael Fragale, Joe Swan and Steve Uryasz, who designed the brand new 2024 look. The team worked in conjunction with football equipment managers Dan Nehlen and Austin Blake, who also deserve some praise for the fantastic job they are doing. The EQ room is a tough place to work, and these fine folks kill it day in and day out.
Well, I think that does it! I hope you enjoyed my 2023 season WVU Football uniform rankings. What a surprising and exciting building season for the Mountaineers. I’ll be slowly releasing more rankings for each of the Big XII teams as the offseason goes along. Again, feel free to comment or message me with any suggestions or changes to the rankings! Do you think WVU’s new suits are an improvement? Did your favorite suit seem properly ranked? Let me and all of CFB know! Have yourself a great Sunday and I’ll see you soon!

2024.01.31 04:16 CNC_Precision Why are complete RC kits so hard to find now.

In high school (2000) my shop teacher had two kits in the classroom that were complete die cut balsa kits with all plastics and decals.
One was a F4U Corsair and the other a P51D. He gave me the P51 to build and wouldn't give me the Corsair until I built the P51. I didn't know what I was doing and used 2part epoxy on most joints. Like a dummy.
Either way that summer that teacher passed on and no idea what happened to that other kit. But the interest has remained and I bought a "slowpoke" kit and built it and then got busy with life again and now I'm wanting to build again. I find I enjoy the build more than the flight. I own a cabinet shop now of that lends to that.
But looking online all of the cooler kits are non existent. I like the BeechCraft Bonanzas. Cessna 182s. Bipes. Specifically the Pitts. But those kits are impossible to find. I see alot of what's called a short kit on ebay. But I prefer an all balsap die cut kit with plans and plastics.
Where have they gone?

2023.09.23 21:20 matte_purple 2023 Week 3 Big XII UniTracker - Well, at Least the Gang Dressed Up

Hello CFB! Welcome to the 2023 Big XII Uniform Tracker in Week 3! Sorry for the lateness of the tracker this week. We’ve got some great games, and some frankly not so good ones. At least we can have some good looking uniforms! In case you are unfamiliar with how my tracker works, I catalog every Big 12 team’s uniform combination week-to-week, and also look at the opposition’s threads. I also compile our future institution’s looks in Arizona, Colorado, Arizona State, and Utah. I provide a few of my thoughts on the game, the uniforms, and a brief history of the rivalry and/or fun facts. It’s the last week of the non-conference schedule and we have some very interesting teams to review, so let's get to it!
I’m u/matte_purple, and let's 3,2,1 go!
Kansas State University Wildcats at University of Missouri Tigers (MIZ Wins, 30-27)
K-State: SilveWhite/Silver (Link: https://imgur.com/a/gooabtU )
Mizzou: Yellow/Black/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/pkLY0Yt )
Well, it sure is hard to be mad losing the game on the longest field goal in SEC history. It is much easier to be mad at how both teams fumbled multiple chances for a resounding victory. In what turned out to be a war of attrition, K-State lost star backfield performer Deuce Green for the season, while also setting RB Treshaun Ward and QB Will Howard into “Questionable” status. QB Brady Cook of the Tigers is also questionable. Not the outcome I hoped for as a K-State fan, but an important step for both teams. We’ll see how each reacts next week.
Obviously, K-State stuck to their guns. The Wildcats wore their white jersey sandwiched by silver helmets and pants. This time last year the ‘Cats released an alternate helmet featuring a retro logo, but it was only worn once. The last alternate was worn in 2019. Safe to say the current staff likes the traditional look, as do I.
Okay, I’m not trying to be a sore loser here, but Missouri did not execute their uniforms as nicely as I had hoped. I mean come on! You have an old Big 8 rival coming to town, wearing the same thing they wore against the Tigers way back in 2011, and you wear the okay oval yellow logo on a yellow helmet? The game was supposed to be all-gold from the fans, why not wear a White/Yellow/White suit they wore last year in Week 11 with the “Block M logo?” Or how about the Black/Yellow/Black versus Vandy in 2022? The only yellow in this suit was the helmet, and I think they missed a perfect opportunity to mix a great alt color, which matched the crowd theme, while ALSO playing a historical opponent. Despite the missed opportunity, Mizzou still has a good look. They updated their uniform in 2021, but added the “Mizzou” wordmark on the chest to their look in 2022. Aside from being cluttered on the front, the Tigers honestly have great fashion sense.
Iowa State University Cyclones vs Ohio University Bobcats (Bobcats Win, 10-7)
ISU: Red/White/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/l7P86BI )
OHIO: Green/Green/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/U7qk39u )
Yay for us, it's another Big 12 loss! A non-con game worse than El Assico is not normal, but there hasn’t been a lot of that going around. ISU thrust second-year Becht into the QB role after Hunter Dekkers had his gambling issue. He was 17-24 for a career-high 233 yards, but the interceptions were critical. Missed kicks abounded. Plus, some Iowa State players had been sick the past 48 hours, possibly from food poisoning, making the already poor performance even worse with context. How do Cyclone fans feel about the program right now?
The Cyclones wore this Red/White/Red look only twice last year. WHile I like the all-white look ISU puts out, this may be one of my more favorite away looks they produce. Like I said last week, I especially love the back helmet bumper, featuring the remarkable and powerful words “I Will” in Jack Trice’s own handwriting. If you don’t know the story, I’d encourage you to look it up! On October 5, 1923, the night before his second college football game, Trice wrote the following in a letter at a hotel in Minneapolis (the letter was later found in Trice's suit just before his funeral). Here’s an excerpt, but PLEASE look it up for a powerful story.
“My thoughts just before the first real college game of my life: The honor of my race, family & self is at stake. Everyone is expecting me to do big things. I will! My whole body and soul are to be thrown recklessly about the field tomorrow. Every time the ball is snapped, I will be trying to do more than my part.”
I don’t know how I haven't looked more closely at the Bobcat’s uniforms before. They have such a unique look, and I love the color scheme they have chosen. I do like when they throw black into their suits, but this was still simple and clean. The slightly curved OHIO wordmark on the helmets has been a constant for the football team’s entire history, and while it looks a little plain, you have to appreciate the dedication. Good work and good game for the Bobcats. I love a Christmas-ish color scheme!
Baylor University Bears vs Long Island University Sharks (BU Wins, 30-7)
BU: Green/Green/Green (Link: https://imgur.com/a/97DZrYt )
LIU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/joVcrqe )
Baylor had two pretty high octane non-conference games. While a few people thought LIU would be a gimme game, Baylor could not afford to make any mistakes. They finally notched a win on Saturday. The SHarks had only 183 total yards of offense, and had one interception thrown by their 4-10 for 41 yds QB Chris Howell. Baylor desperately needed something after a rocky start, and will hit it hard versus highly ranked Texas this next game.
The SHARKS? Are you kidding me? I was surprised to learn through my research that there are only a handful of schools that use the sharks as their mascot (give or take two if you count Ole Miss’ Landshark and UNLV’s shark mascot) These New Yorkers look good. I love the Charger’s-esque color scheme, despite the outdated look of the suits. I think if the colors popped off the suits more, or maybe if LIU went with blue lids or pants, I would have liked it a little more. The large pant stripe and collarbone stripe are ancient by football fashion standards, but that logo is sick as hell. I’ll give them a pass.
Baylor wore all green. It had to show up. The Bears wore this combo a whopping 5 times last season, but learned their lesson, presumably only scheduling it one more time this season. Green and Gold are the colors, which necessitates some yellow/gold combos. All-green is just so boring. Baylor fans, in general, seem pretty displeased with the current administration, so we may see some fun alternates or big ideas come forth to win back the fanbase. At least they got a win!
University of Oklahoma Sooners at University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane (OU Wins, 66-17)
OU: Red/Red/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/K4asUTE )
TU: Gold/Blue/Gold (Link: https://imgur.com/a/xHPAJJx )
The Sooners are a force to be reckoned with this year. They smashed Tulsa to bits, Dillon Gabriel was 28-31 with an interception. Three of his receivers had at least 100 yds. 10 plays went for over 20 yards. OU isn’t here to mess around, and will likely continue to seek revenge for their disappointing season last year.
What is there to say about OU’s combo? The crimson and cream is a tried and true classic. It almost feels wrong to change them up. They did it twice last year (and despite the looks being good, it felt strange). We’ll see if they wear more this year, but I honestly doubt they’ll deviate.
I’ll say one thing about Tulsa: they got the gold usage right. You see so many teams move from gold to yellow, and it can really tear an identity apart. The Tulsa crew kept with it, and I love it. The traditional script “Tulsa” logo is clean, the blue is striking against the gold, and the Red Flag logo is amazing. Slap that on some combos next time, Tulsa! Not a huge fan of the words on the legs, but at least it’s different. Other than those few nitpicks, it looks exceptionally clean.
University of Central Florida Knights vs Villanova University Wildcats (UCF Wins, 48-14)
UCF: Gold/Black/Gold (Link: https://imgur.com/a/MJzQoxc )
Villanova: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/pVSOtyU )
The Knights dominated this one pretty easily, it seemed. Villanova only scored in the 4th quarter, and QB Timmy McClain (absolutely goated name) looked like a star with 321 pass yards and two touchdowns for the Knights, adding an additional 44 rush yards. They open Big 12 play next week against K-State, and will look to make their mark on the conference.
Don’t bite my head off too quickly, but I kind of forgot that Villanova had a football team. I was pleasantly surprised to see their suits, but they gave off a retro look that looked only semi-decent. The wide stripe on the leg with “Villanova” in writing is not quite what I would go for. Replace that with the same striping you have on the shoulders. The font is also kind of “meh.” I like the way the numbers are outlined, but overall, a pretty average uniform.
The Knights wore a fantastic look. My word. I know cursive logos are coming back into the zeitgeist - which tends to create some kitsch - but these are just sublime. The logo was first introduced to a football helmet in 2021 on a white shell, and it only had the script logo on one side. This is the first time it’s shown up on black and also the first time it’s shown up on both sides f the helmet. My only gripe is I need more of the gold. That sweet, shiny gold metallic sheen on those black helmets on THAT logo would be just perfect.
University of Cincinnati Bearcats vs Miami (OH) University RedHawks (Miami Wins, 31-24 OT)
UC: Black/Black/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/uIaGrMg )
Miami: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/OaEiBhN )
Adding to the Big 12 misery, we have the RedHawks breaking a 16-game losing streak in the Battle for the Bell. Ending it on an interception after the monster 2-pt conversion effort in the 4th quarter, while simultaneously putting only 9 points up in only 3 of the 4 trips to Miami’s 10-yard line is a rough, rough spot. Hopefully it fuels a fire against Oklahoma next week. Miami will play against Delaware.
These Miami uniforms are the exact opposite of the other Miami uniforms: stark white, a distinct lack of color, and angular block font. The only distinguishable feature on this uniform is the shrunken “Miami” on the front of the suit. Why is it so small? No clue. If you removed that, the uniform looks like it would belong in a Hallmark movie where a highschool QB has to save the town’s Christmas parade or something. Plain and simple.
Cincy has the same coloration as Miami, but has more recognizable suits. The main part of this is - of course - the overdose of the C-Paw everywhere, but that works in UC’s favor here. The red shoulder cuffs and collar continues to be my favorite part of these, but I think if i were a bold EQ manager, I might have tried out a red facemask. I don’t know if that is blasphemous for the Bearcats, but it sure would look cool. Tough loss, but at least they looked sharp.
Oklahoma State Cowboys vs University of South Alabama Jaguars (Jaguars Win, 33-7)
OSU: Black/Orange/Orange (Link: https://imgur.com/a/HS7Nug7 )
USA: White/White/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/hdYmpK4 )
So, the final whistle finally blew, and all I’ll say is this: OK-State better figure it out. This was miserable for all involved. An inexcusable loss that calls for serious action. I won’t bore you with more analysis. Onto the uniforms:
OSU wore a pretty “normal” look, I’d say. This is what a lot of people tend to think of when you say “OK-State Cowboys.” This is the second time we’ve seen the new orange jersey in 2023, and I couldn’t be happier. OSU won my “best season uniform award” last year thanks to their variety, logo diversity, and overall design, but I always wanted more orange consistently. We might just get that this year. Another note, the original brand logo has shown up twice as well. I wonder what they’ll wear against Iowa State next week.
South Alabama has a very Sun Belt-y uniform. Take that how you will. The script “South Alabama” on the helmet is a little clunky and somehow plain, the font used is weird, the weird broken up stripe on the legs and the only shiny piece of the uniform being the facemask turns this whole uniform into a bit of a mess. But I’ll bet they’d wear rags if it meant continuing to be at the top of the conference. Absolute domination by the Jaguars.
Texas Tech University Red Raiders vs Tarleton State University Texans (Tech Wins, 41-3)
TTU: Black/Red/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/aqhpD7i )
TSU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/MHZlJ3z )
The Texans from Stephenville square off against the *ahem* other Texans of Lubbock. And finally, Texas Tech didn’t have a wild heart-stopping game in 2023. Tarleton State trailed 41-0 until Adrian Guzman's 21-yard field goal with 5:04 left in the game. It’s worth mentioning that a scary injury occurred before that kick. Texans WR Jaden Smith was taken off the field on a stretcher after being down near the goal line for several minutes after treatment from medical staff, but was discharged from the hospital later that night. Thank goodness he’s okay. Overall, Tarleton was just outmatched, and the Red Raiders finally notch a win on their gun.
Damn it I love it when a purple school uses purple. The Texans wore icy-whites with purple accents and it looked beautiful. I will say, the helmet logo seemed off? Maybe it was how the broadcast looked, but I felt like the logo needs thicker lines and a bolder purple. It seemed lighter somehow. Other than that, I have zero nitpicks.
I usually love when Texas Tech wears throwbacks. These 60’s throwbacks are no exception. While they aren’t my favorite TTU throwbacks I’ve seen, they are very, very nice. First, I should mention I am a big proponent of Leveling the Bevel. Second, I love how the gray facemask offsets the suit. Third, I think they may have missed the mark with the white pants. Black pants would have really shot these to the top of my Texas Tech favorites. I would love more thoughts on these from Tech fans.
West Virginia Mountaineers vs University of Pittsburgh Panthers (WVU Wins, 17-6)
WVU: Blue/Yellow/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/KvCAfwS )
Pitt: Yellow/White/Yellow (Link: https://imgur.com/a/0oJDq7R )
The Backyard Brawl is back and better than ever! After the Mountaineer’s heartbreaker game last year, WVU came ready to fight. But this was an ugly fight to be sure. In the 106th Backyard Brawl, WVU’s CJ Donaldson and QB Garrett Greene both had injuries, but the Mountaineers stayed scrappy. After an early game surge by Pitt, the Panthers stalled in the second half, and Abilene Christian transfer Tyrin Bradley unleashed a game-changing sack on Pitt QB Phil Jurkovec with less than four minutes remaining, locking up a win for WVU. While not as high octane of a game as last year, I still had great fun watching this. What does everyone say? ESP?
We discussed Pitt’s look against Cincy just last week, and I have similar thoughts. Pitt’s colors look great after their 2019 refresh. I especially like the font, with those steep curves designed to resemble a particular cathedral in Pittsburgh. It's a noticeable, fun aspect of the uniform. There’s also the subtle design on the leg stripe, which is neat and eye-catching. The colors pop very nicely, but this is the first time I’ve tracked their away look. I think I like the home look more, honestly, which brings us to WVU’s look!
WVU broke ot the home counterpart to the “Cue Country Roads” uniforms worn last year. ANd I’ll be honest, I like the away version better, but these are still just fantastic. The sublimated road map, the incredible state outline logo with the Flying WV on the inside, the consistent striping on the helmet and pants, all topped off by the “Mountaineers” on the chest. This isn’t as retro as, say, the new OK-State suits or Texas Tech throwbacks, but they aren’t meant to be. They give off a touch of modernity and provide that heightened importance for the rivalry. I know I said I liked the white version more, but these are in contention for best alternate uniform this year.
Brigham Young University Cougars at University of Arkansas Razorbacks (BYU Wins, 38-31)
Arkansas: Red/Red/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/bxbW6Kv )
BYU: Blue/White/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/Xrj8LfP )
A massive win for the Cougars! BYU had a rollercoaster game, rallying from a 10-point deficit late in the third quarter and capitalizing off of some wild Arkansas penalties. The Razorbacks drove inside the BYU red zone in the final 20 seconds with a chance to win it, but stalled with four penalties including one on the final play to end the game. Also, did you know BYU is 3-1 in its last four games on the road against the SEC? They will be a solid force in the new Big XII. Donald W. Reynolds Stadium is a hell of a tough field to play, but the boys in royal blue got the job done.
This is the most classic matchup I could have possibly dreamed up. The iconic red vs blue, the simple stripes, the fact that both of these teams tend to go pretty traditional on a regular basis. It’s a match made in heaven. BYU wore this same look against Stanford last year, and in my opinion it’s only topped by the away uniforms with royal blue pants. This is as close to perfect as BYU can get uniform-wise. Arkansas wore this same look Arkansas wore their normal home duds, complete with shiny bucket and fancy three strip britches. I love their mascot and logo history, and they love to stick to their guns.
University of Houston Cougars vs TCU Horned Frogs (TCU Wins, 36-13)
UH: Red/Red/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/T8MLGCz )
TCU: Purple/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/XSdas8k )
Houston fought hard, but was outpaced by the Frogs. TCU’s secondary showed much improvement against the Coogs, and ended the day with six sacks and eight tackles for loss. Tack on a 314 yd game with 2 TDs from QB Chandler Morris, and you’ve got a pretty airtight recipe for success. While the Big 12 opener was spoiled, Houston will have a shot at retribution against Sam Houston next week, who played close against BYU in Week 1.
NEW HELMET ALERT! And it finally happened. I have been itching for the Horned Frog logo to find its way onto the helmet without the “TCU” wordmark. These look so damn sexy. Complete with the red eye I love so much, on a field of purple, man these are just excellent. I think I like these more than the traditional 2019 helmets worn usually. Add this to the repertoire with the “Sooner Slayer” uniforms from last year and I’m in paradise. I will say this, I’m not a huge fan of the white with purple lids, I think the flow is just a little clunky. I would have preferred purple pants. Oh well, the helmet keeps me satisfied.
Houston wore probably my least favorite combo of theirs. Houston already has some pretty basic design elements, and adding them to an all-red block of color makes those elements seem more pronounced. Honestly, I hope they didn’t peak with the throwbacks from Week 1.
University of Texas Longhorns vs University of Wyoming Cowboys (Texas Wins, 31-10)
Texas: White/Orange/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/SCspBi3 )
WYO: White/Yellow/Yellow (Link: https://imgur.com/a/e8BvWVp )
While the game was a slog for much of the duration, Texas really turned on the gas in the 4th quarter. WR Xavier Worthy caught a 44-yd TD pass early in the fourth, DB Jerrin Thompson added a pick-six minutes later, and Texas pulled away with a 21-point gap, it just took a little time! Texas yet again looks pretty tough. Watch out for them in Big 12 play this next week.
The third appearance of the Wyoming Cowboys on this tracker (also spotted against BYU last year), and the second where they wore an away uniform. It’s the go-to away look for the Cowboys, and it’s a great look. For some reason, Wyoming gets trashed for their color scheme, but I actually quite like it. Did you know that the helmet logo has stayed mostly the same (aside from some color variations) since 1988? I also really enjoy the font of the bold WYOMING on the front. Great look from the Laramie Gang.
Texas wore the classic. What is there to say about it? Although, here's a fun fact for you: On November 2, 1971, the university’s Student Senate unanimously approved a resolution, introduced and supported by Student Body President Bob Binder, to poll UT students about switching the University’s mascot from the longhorn to the armadillo. What ensued was a yearlong national discussion regarding the change. When asked, Binder claimed that the armadillo was a “peaceful and ecologically minded animal, and cheaper to maintain than a longhorn.” Texas A&M mocked the move by releasing two orange painted armadillos on the field before the Longhorn marching band performed in College Station.
University of Kansas Jayhawks at University of Nevada (Reno) Wolf Pack (KU Wins, 31-24)
KU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/Vuw8oAO )
Nevada: Gray/Blue/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/XYO1NMH )
Well, KU is 3-0 again! RBs Neal and Hishaw Jr. combined for 137 rushing yds and four TDs, QB Jalon Daniels threw for 298 yards, and Kansas pulled away from Nevada in the fourth quarter for a 31-24 victory. Helped by the fact the Wolfpack couldn’t cross midfield on their last two possessions, KU survived a possible scare and will move on to BYU next week! Nevada will have a chance to strike back against KU in 2029, when their next game is scheduled.
Thank goodness KU ditched the Trajan font. Their icy white uniforms that were released in July look great against the silver and navy of the Wolf Pack. This was my favorite look of theirs last year, and their new uniform template made it EVEN BETTER. Hot damn, even I get excited for what KU is doing with their program.
Nevada wore uniforms from their 2019 refresh, and they looked good! The shoulders look a little 2008, but I love the color scheme. Silvegray gets a bad rap in the uniform game. I won’t say too much more, but I loved the contrast.
BONUS UNIFORMS! Let’s have a look at our future four-corners Big XII teams as well!
University of Colorado Buffaloes vs Colorado State University Rams (CU Wins, 43-35 OT)
CSU: Green/White/Gold (Link: https://imgur.com/a/9Rpat4t )
CU: Gold/Black/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/yG2ksY3 )
Now look, despite the record, and CSU having only 4 wins against the Buffaloes in the past 20 years, the Rocky Mountain Showdown continues to be a great time. This was no exception. It set records for night-game viewership for good reason. A trip to OT in a game where the underdog leads for the majority of the game? Count me in! A 23.5 point underdog, the Rams led for a large chunk, but unraveled, especially considering the 17 penalties for 182 yds. I thought the Buffs might have fallen, but alas, Prime Time does it again.
This is the first time a gold helmet shown up this year for the Buffaloes. And I am so glad it showed up. It’s an iconic part of the program. This whole suit is very classic, and I’m sure it was by intention. The Rocky Mountain Showdown is a big deal, clearly, as CU rushed the field. A great look by the Buffs, and I’m sure they'll look even better through the season.
CSU’s uniforms need an update. The tri-color is not my speed, the “Colorado State” wordmark on the chest is small and pushed down by the template, and there aren't any real distinguishable marks outside of the ram horn helmet. I do love their Ag Day throwbacks, incorporating the original colors of “Alfalfa Green” and “Aggie Orange'' but it makes sense they'd wear something more standard here. Oh well.
University of Arizona Wildcats vs University of Texas El Paso Miners (Arizona Wins, 31-10)
U of A: White/Blue/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/25REvmf )
UTEP: Yellow/White/Yellow (Link: https://imgur.com/a/f6vgz5P )
Arizona forced the Miners into a fumble, a turnover on downs and seven punts in 10 drives before scoring a late touchdown, and the Wildcats struck hard after their heartbreaker loss. QB De Laura led the way after throwing 4 INTs last week, hitting 23-29 for 285 yds and 3 TDs in Arizona's 14th straight win over UTEP. Arizona clearly wanted to win this game.
Arizona really likes to stick with the “Desert Swarm” look, this time they changed up the blue pants for white. I like this a little bit more. I think the white helmets and white pants are a professional and classy look. If you want more of the history on these uniforms, go check out last week’s tracker.
UTEP wore a very yellow look, but I think the white jersey did wonders. I love the blue and yellow combo when it is put to good use. The font is FINALLY a good size and spaced correctly on the chest, and “Miners” is just a cool concept in general. I like the classic striping on the shoulders, and no striping on the legs is good for versatility. A nice suit, indeed.
University of Utah Utes vs Weber State University Wildcats (Utah Wins, 31-7)
UTAH: White/Red/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/QB5hLBK )
WSU: Black/White/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/tuLnLfW )
After the 2022 departure of Jay Hill, the winningest coach in program history, the Wildcats are now led by coach Mickey Mental. While he shot off to a good start at 2-0, his game against Utah was his first loss suffered while heading the Ogden program. Utah notched some impressive chunk plays, the rush attack was solid, and some big turnover plays led to a pretty simple victory for the Utes. Utah will need to gear up for an Oregon State with something to prove next week.
I love the look Utah bought here. The white lids are so nice with the iconic feather-and-drum logo. They provide a much needed brevity to the all red of the standard uniform. This rendition of the helmet hasn't been worn since Week 10 of 2021. I like these quite a bit more than the all red, but I’d love to hear thoughts from more Utah fans.
Weber State had a pretty good flow to their uniforms, but I was hoping for a little bit more purple in there. Maybe a purple facemask or a little purple outline on the helmet logo? The one distinctive feature on these suits is the logo on the shoulders. It’s a little small for my taste, but it adds some spice that is necessary for the uniform. Good work to the Wildcats for hanging in there and looking good doing it.
Arizona State Sun Devils vs Fresno State University Bulldogs (Bulldogs win, 29-0)
Fresno: Blue/White/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/t6ELRHG )
ASU: White/Maroon/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/fw95nyS )
Arizona State was shut out for the first time since 2008 and the first time at home since 1988. Both those games were against USC, who they play next week in their PAC-12 opener. Fresno State forced 8 turnovers. EIGHT. Another wild game that just wrecks a fanbase. I’ll move on to the uniforms.
Fresno State rocked a cursive logo on a field of navy. The look contrasted so well against the Maroon from Arizona State, which raises their stock a bit in my book. Other than those great helmets, the Bulldogs wore a pretty plain look. No striping on the shoulders or pants, and the “Fresno State” on the front is pretty small (like many of the ones covered this week). Can’t complain too much.
Okay, now don’t get too mad at me, I would have much preferred a full body Sparky logo on this helmet. Aside from that, I have very few gripes. I LOVE the white on this combo. Mixed with the dark maroon and the crisp white outline on the yellow numbers, the flow of this uniform is something to behold. I mean this looks GOOD. In the history of Sun Devil football, this is the first time that Sparky in any form has ever been on a helmet color other than gold. Last year,, was the first time the large Sparky face decal was used on an ASU football helmet, but that was a gold shell. Professional, stylish, great contrast to Fresno State, and crisp under the lights, this may be one of my favorite matchups all year.
And hey there we have it! Week 3 is all wrapped up! Again, sorry this is so incredibly late. A tough set of games, but the Big 12 will get better! I hope you enjoyed reading. Look forward to the next edition coming out soon! What did you think about those suits your team wore? Let me know and comment your thoughts. See you soon!

2023.09.04 01:53 matte_purple 2023 Big 12 Week 1 Unitracker - The Gang is Back in Action!

Hello CFB! Welcome to the 2023 Big XII Uniform Tracker in Week 1! Ladies and gentlemen, FOOTBALL IS FINALLY HERE! I am just ECSTATIC. In case you are unfamiliar with how my tracker works, I catalog every Big 12 team’s uniform combination week-to-week, and also look at the opposition’s threads. I also compile our future institutions in Arizona, Colorado, Arizona State, and Utah. I provide a few of my thoughts on the game, the uniforms, and a brief history of the rivalry and/or fun facts. (Sorry if the tracker feels so long, I didn’t anticipate covering 18 teams come September!) This week our teams start a long season, dueling against some exciting teams. And WOW were there some terrific games. Let's see how they fared, what they wore, and discuss how they looked as well! Thank goodness it is college football once again!
I’m u/matte_purple, and lets 3,2,1 go!

University of Central Florida Knights vs Kent State Golden Flashes (UCF Wins, 56-6)
UCF: Gold/Black/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/Dic1H9H )
Kent: Yellow/White/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/64iS7zK )
The very first Big 12 game of the season came from a school in Central Florida, of all places. Strange times we live in. But I sure am glad to see John Rhys Plumlee and the Knights whip up on the Golden Flashes, racking up 723 yards of total offense. Nothing else to say, except for a hearty congratulations to the Orlando boys on their Big 12 debut! UCF wore these same suits twice last year, against Louisville in a loss and Georgia Tech in a win. These are in the upper tier of UCF’s regular uniforms, for sure. While I’m not a huge fan of the pegasus logo, I love the front-facing knight that's all grayed-out. The back lettering on the names is also a little hard to read for a night game. I’m also a big fan of the unique stars on the pants in lieu of a stripe. Great look for UCF!
I have covered Kent State’s uniforms before, in their loss to OU last year in Week 2. And similar to that game, these uniforms are simply too busy. The weird “harness stripes(?)” with the school name on it, the Kent State logo on the center collar with the supplementary logos scrunched close to it, theres a lot going on. On the bright side, I like the helmets. Very stylish, and far better than the helmet worn last year. Fun fact, did you know Nick Saban graduated from Kent State? Saban played DB under coach Don James from ‘70-’72. Another interesting aside, Kent State was known as the “Silver Foxes” from 1920-26, but began calling themselves “Golden Flashes” after the president of the university (and founder of the Silver Fox epithet) was fired after moving to no longer accept any transfer credits from other universities.

University of Kansas Jayhawks vs Missouri State University Bears (KU Wins, 48-17)
KU: Blue/Blue/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/nAZFREU )
Missouri: Gray/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/bTPU2ZE )
This time last year, KU was playing against Tennessee Tech in what would end up becoming a pretty great season for the Jayhawks. The ceiling is significantly higher for KU this year. Just like last season - smoking the Golden Eagles 56-10 - this game showed a high power offense, KU running over the Bears 48-17. Preseason Big 12 OPOY Jalon Daniels was not under center for the game due to back tightness, but his backup QB Jason Bean still did a great job. The Jayhawks and Bears were neck-and-neck in the first half, but KU ran away with the game in the second half, scoring 31 points to the Bear’s 7.
Onto the uniforms, the Bears wore a very classy look. What can I say, I like the gray. The only strange detail were the maroon shoulder lines flanking the collar. While those were a little odd, they are unique and don’t detract from the uniform too much. The rest of the uniform is fairly standard, but I sure do like the maroon abstract logo with the gray backing.
New Uniform Alert! KU refreshed their look in July, releasing their uniforms to wide acclaim. They look clean and modern, perfect for a team that has some high expectations this year. While the new Adidas template as a whole has lots of teams looking similar, you really can’t go wrong with the classic meets modern uniform they’ve been putting out. I’m not quite sure I’m a fan of the all blue everything, but I love the block text, the bold Kansas on the front, and a noticeable lack of Trajan Font! Please, KU Athletics, don’t use that on a football helmet ever again. I hear we may see a special uniform next week for the Jayhawks, so stay tuned!

TCU Horned Frogs vs University of Colorado Buffaloes (CU Wins, 45-42)
TCU: White/Purple/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/tUZlrza )
CU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/sdcaWRQ )
Wow. I don’t even need to tell you how this game went. It’s been posted everywhere. This one was circled on the calendar for a long time, even BEFORE the great realignment scourge. A classic Big 12 story, am I right? I know this game will get lots of discussion here, so I wont beat a dead horse and we’ll just move onto the uniforms.
Last year, Colorado wore a traditional helmet with a “semi-throwback” that honored 1970-1972 WR and NFL Hall of Fame inductee Cliff Branch. This year, they switched it up (obviously, as last year was a home game in Boulder). They wore their all white stunner, which is the first time a white helmet has been worn since 2019! I personally love this look. It’s such a role reversal. You think of CU and you think of the iconic black and gold. The gold numbers outlined in black made the look. These are excellent. Very excited to track them this year.
TCU wore more white than I had expected, but I’m pretty sure every TCU home opener for the past few season has opened with this combo. Must be a little tradition. The TCU v CU matchup last year landed on my Season Awards list - nabbing 3rd best OOC uniform matchup. There definitely wasn’t as much contrast in the matchup this year, but both teams looked very clean. I especially liked the shiny silver and purple chrome on TCU paired with that sweet, sweet CU gold. No noticeable changes from last year, except for the Horned Frog on TCU’s lids having a red eye. Nice touch!

University of Oklahoma Sooners vs Arkansas State Red Wolves (OU Wins,73-0)
OU: Red/Red/White (Link:https://imgur.com/a/45AZx0Q )
ASU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/O1U5b9t )
Arkansas State has played Big 12 teams off and on for quite some time, most recently inflicting blows to K-State (2020) and UCF (2016). This week, the Red Wolves had a chance to bid farewell to a team exiting the Big 12 before they play their Sun Belt schedule. Sadly, OU was ready to avenge last year’s season. The Sooners trounced the Red Wolves 73-0, QB Dillon Gabriel putting on a show. In fact, it was OU's largest margin of victory in a season opener since 1917. Maybe the rest of the Big 12 should watch out for the big bad Sooners.
The classic OU crimson can’t be criticized. Just an all-time look, and it sure does work. Arkansas State, on the other hand, looked… off. I think the three things that weirds me out are the black stripe across the center of the helmet and the small and skinny font of “Arkansas State” on the chest. The crying wolf logo always weirds me out. It looks like it was released in 2008 after rebranding from the Indians. I like the “Patriot Stripes” on the shoulders. Otherwise, a very, very simple and clean look. Not the worst I’ve ever seen.

Iowa State Cyclones vs University of Northern Iowa Panthers (ISU Wins, 30-9)
ISU: Red/Red/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/I7kvMH9 )
UNI: Purple/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/Ybj3SN0 )
The Panthers of Northern Iowa made the trek 100 miles southwest to Jack Trice Stadium in this home state classic. UNI has never played a home game versus the Cyclones, but have won in Ames before, with a total record of 5-16 against the Loyal Sons of ISU. Make that record 5-17
If you can’t tell by my flair, I happen to love purple uniforms. These are no different. The Panthers had different uniforms the last time they beat ISU, in 2013, but I can’t tell you when they were refreshed. These are pretty basic by most standards, except the striping on the pants, which seems a tad out of place. They are reminiscent of the 2012-ish tapered strip worn by loads of teams, but the Arizona Cardinals come to mind first. While I’m not a fan of that, I do like the helmet. UNI has experimented with multiple helmets, but I most prefer the one released in 2022, which they are wearing here. It looks like other purple renditions but has a lighter outline around the whole logo. It’s a look that pops, and I’ve definitely seen uglier helmets. Good work to the Panthers!
I dog on Iowa State’s uniforms, but a lot of that is the rivalry talking. They wore a similar White/Red/White combo versus SEMO in their home opener last year, and I have the same thoughts. The font is different for sure, but it represents the wind current of a Cyclone, and adds the right amount of uniqueness. I think the front is a little busy, especially with the Captains patch. I think it would be a neat touch to move the Jack Trice logo where the Block I logo is. Otherwise, great execution for both teams.

University of Texas Longhorns vs Rice University Owls (Texas Wins, 37-10)
UT: White/Orange/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/i9lPRx7 )
Rice: Blue/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/1yDN3kX )
Texas, like every year, has some big shoes to fill. The bar is high for the Longhorns this year with Quinn Ewers at the helm. Those expectations did not slow down the Burnt Orange Faithful. While the Horns were a little slow in the first half, they worked out the kinks and grabbed 21 points in the third quarter alone. WR Xavier Worthy led all receivers with 7 receptions for 90 yards. Ewers finished the game with 3 TDs and 260 yards on 30 attempts. Nothing feels better than 1-0.
Rice wore a mostly white look, tacking on a blue helmet with the gothic “R” logo and a gray facemask. But I’ll be honest, have some of the most bare-bones jerseys I’ve ever seen. Aside from the logo on the helmet, which is fine, there’s nothing else on these uniforms. No stripes, logos, or fun aside from “RICE” on the front. Stormtrooper uniforms only work if you add a little extra flair. Texas has burnt orange, just splash a tiny bit of blue in there somewhere, ya know? Speaking of Texas, they had some minor changes to the look last year, namely they got rid of the TV numbers on their shoulders and removed the ‘Horns logo in the center. Texas hasn’t changed anything since. Still the gorgeous burnt orange we see each season!

Kansas State Wildcats vs Southeast Missouri Redhawks (K-State Wins 45-0)
K-State: SilvePurple/Silver (Link:https://imgur.com/a/jP8AbjS )
SEMO: Black/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/NkHQ5aH )
The reigning Big 12 Champions had a day against the Redhawks. QB Will Howard joined a list of only 5 other Big 12 QBs who have a rushing, passing, and receiving quarterback in a single game. Howard did it in one quarter. The last QB to do it was Jalen Hurts in 2019. There is still plenty for K-State to work on. Will Howard had one pretty egregious interception, and some starters were out due to injury in camp. But the Wildcats looked good. Of course, their suits looked good, too! K-State is not known for their alternates, and this game was no different. Silver sandwiching purple is a good look, if a little traditional. Maybe we’ll see some fun helmet alternates, but EQ manager Al Cerbe has gone on record saying he likes what Bill Snyder started. Oh well, the ol’ reliable does it again.
SEMO wore a new uniform than what I saw last season! I liked the upgrade! They improved their shoulder striping to something more classic, but also added a slightly vintage “faux-collar” stripe. Different, but not in a bad way, and one of the better Under Armour templates out there. I think the black helmets really sealed the combo. A nice logo accented in red, encased by that sharp black against the silver K-State wears. SEMO has a bright future ahead of them, as defending Ohio Valley champions, who are ranked as high as No. 9 in some FCS polls, the “Brick by Brick” on the back helmet bumpers (the unofficial mantra of SEMO HC Tom Matukewicz) really holds true. Let's see how they play against Lindenwood next week.

Baylor University Bears vs Texas State University Bobcats (Texas State Wins, 42-31)
TSU: White/White/Maroon (Link: https://imgur.com/a/KLnFiKO )
BU: Yellow/Yellow/Green (Link: https://imgur.com/a/CAJbGWJ )
Baylor had a disappointing season last year. After winning the conference title in 2021, they faced a challenging road schedule, injuries, and a gauntlet at the end of the 2022 season. And then this game happened. Texas State was a 27.5 underdog to the Bears. Last year, Baylor beat Texas State 42-7 in Week 3, but this year the Bobcats struck back and clawed their way to a 42-31 victory in GJ Kinne’s FBS debut. Kinne brought in 71 new transfers and notched Texas State’s first ever win against a P5 opponent. But well wishes go out to Baylor QB Blake Shapen, who will have an MRI for a knee injury soon. A tough loss for Baylor, but good motivation for next week’s home game against the Utah Utes.
Last year the Bobcats wore an all-white look that was incredible. Maroon and gold are a great complement to one another. This year, they rocked some maroon pants which were okay. To make up for the whelming pants, Texas State put some gold chrome on both their helmet logo and helmet stripe, which they’ve added off and on since the logo was revamped on helmets in 2003. I really, really like this addition. Looks like we know who claims the real gold color! My favorite little detail is the traditional helmet warning sticker filling in an outline of Texas on the back of the helmet. It’s just neat! Baylor did not disappoint and went with a never before worn combo since the 2019 refresh. Damn, it looked nice. Baylor really messed up last year, wearing far too many all green uniforms. It’s nice to see some variety.

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs University of Central Arkansas Bears (OSU Wins, 27-13)
OSU: White/Orange/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/icF0b59 )
UCA: WhiteWhite/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/vA9usFT )
Okay, I was hyped to see this matchup. Not just because of OK-State’s new and improved uniform look (which was already one of the best in the Big 12), but also because I love the UCA Bears. Conway is home to three institutions of higher learning, earning it the nickname City of Colleges. UCA, Hendrix College, and Central Baptist College are all fantastic universities in a fantastic town. But I digress, OK-State has a lot to prove this year, and they did okay against ASUN’s middle-of-the-pack Bears. The game was a little closer than I expected, likely owing to a three QB shuffle from OK-State, but they found steady success.
The Cowboys wore their brand new refreshed uniforms in the home opener classic, Orange and White. The Pokes have worn a white helmet to start since 2016. These things are beautiful. Essentially the modern version of the 1980s style, with OK-State on chest in “barbed wire” font, numbers on shoulders for the first time since 2005, and those clean retro stripes, wow. While I am sad the Phantom Pete logo is gone from the pants, you can't beat the classic brand. I am also glad they removed the gray cowboys stripe from last year and kept the pants clean. Absolutely incredible. All while paired with the classic OK-State brand logo helmet. These won’t be my favorite look, but they are very, very nice. My one complaint is the new Nike template pushes the chest text down a little further than it should be.
Onto the Bears, I really love the striping on the helmet paired with the purple logo, but I wish there was more of that striping incorporated throughout. These uniforms are really pretty plain otherwise. Fun Fact: UCA’s women sports teams are called the “Sugar Bears.” I love it.

West Virginia Mountaineers at Penn State University Nittany Lions (PSU Wins, 38-15)
WVU: Blue/White/Gold (Link: https://imgur.com/a/mYipbxZ )
PSU: White/Blue/White (Link:https://imgur.com/a/HS95olX )
This was the first time these two regional rivals played since meeting every year from 1947 until 1992. Penn State’s deep, experienced roster is expected to contend for the Big Ten championship, which left the Mountaineers very little wiggle room. Penn State outpaced WVU 405-198 yards through three quarters and a stalwart Penn State defense forced four punts and three turnovers on downs. WVU QB Greene played relatively mistake free but didn’t get a lot of help from his skill players, who went 10 of 18 on attempts. The Mountaineers will have to do something quick, but hopefully they can wrap it all together before playing Duquesne and Pitt at home.
WVU wore their classic blue helmet and tossed in a little bit of color with their yellow (gold) pants. This combo was worn once successfully since their refresh, and the record for it is now 1-5. I like this look. WVU tends to have some pretty tame combinations, but they really know how to spread around the different combinations to good effect.
Penn State has some divisive helmets. It seems to be a 50/50 split on the plain white helmets. They have done a good job of basing their brand off of it, similar to an Alabama-type. Penn State has not had a logo on their helmets since the university’s football program was born. I like the history, and I like the commitment. It takes a special team to become iconic for simplicity.

University of Houston Cougars vs UTSA Roadrunners (UH Wins, 17-14)
Houston: White/Blue/White (Link:https://imgur.com/a/72iNnZh )
UTSA: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/ULyU1is )
Drip alert! I knew Houston would be hot this weekend, but I didn’t know that applied to the uniforms! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. In this battle of new conference members, the Big 12 won out, with ex-TTU QB Donovan Smith completed 22 of 34 attempts for 233 yds without a turnover. Pretty dang good for such a low scoring game. Houston also had three picks, and while Houston’s kicker Jack Martin missed one FG, he redeemed himself with one that ended up putting the Coogs over the top.
Obviously, the Cougars uniforms are an homage to the hometown football team, the Houston Oilers. These are incredible. I love the special emphasis placed on the striping. For one thing, it’s consistent through the entire uniform. I also love the sharp “Houston” font used here, also used in Week 1 against UTSA last year. I really can’t say anything more about them. They are excellent. The look is a tribute to the rich history of a football-mad city, not a reminder of a franchise leaving a fan base behind. Perfect for a Big 12 opener!
The Roadrunners wore icy whites for their trip to Houston. While the numbers and “UTSA” on the front aren't my favorite style, I just get a kick out of the shoulders. The Roadrunner logo in blue differentiates the uniform from every other “stormtrooper” uniform out there, while making the school the focus. It's whimsical and menacing at the same time. *Chef’s kiss*

University of Cincinnati Bearcats vs Eastern Kentucky Colonels (Cincy Wins, 66-13)
CINCY: White/Black/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/NFUEFDF )
EKU: Red/White/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/1rDf4F2 )
Admittedly, I didn’t get to watch this game, so I’m flying by the seat of my pants on this one. Cincy had this one pretty well in the bag right off the bat, scoring 21 in the first quarter to EKU’s zero. It was downhill from there. In less than three quarters, QB Emory Jones hit five different receivers going 19 of 23 for 345 yds. While he was at it, he ran for two TDs, accounting for seven total in Nippert Stadium. Fun fact, The Bearcats have won 22 consecutive home openers. Three of those opening victories have been against EKU's Colonels. Tough luck for the Colonels!
Cincinnati donned new uniforms in their Big 12 debut, and I really like them. They look very modern. My favorite touch is the bright red outline that really pops against the simple black jersey. ANd I know it's a controversial helmet choice, the supposed white lid curse and all, but this looked very, VERY good. Nice font, I think that the C-Paw being on both the “Cincinnati'' wordmark and the collar AND the pants is a little overkill, but it's a small gripe. This is one of my favorite “normal” looks in the new Big 12.
EKU had a pretty standard set, seems like a pretty plain Nike template. I like the color! I did some sleuthing on the mascot and found some fun tidbits. Eastern athletes went by the moniker “The Maroons.” until 1963. They tried to switch to “The Leopards,” in an attempted mascot change during the 1920s. However, a plan to buy a leopard from a zoo in Memphis fell through, and we remained The Maroons. In 1963, President Robert Martin altered the mascot to The Colonel, in an attempt to tie the university to the 1812 based Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the philanthropic brotherhood closely tied to Kentucky’s governorship. Neat!

Texas Tech University Red Raiders at University of Wyoming Cowboys (WYO Wins, 35-33 2OT)
Tech: Black/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/aZI8NYF )
WYO: White/Yellow/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/MzYjZkY )
Two rough-riding, stubborn horsemen draw their pistols on a windswept prairie. One donning a neckerchief of yellow, the other a bandana of red. I am a sucker for quintessential western schools duking it out on the gridiron. And my goodness, did this deliver. An absolute barnburner that went to 2 OT, Wyoming’s QB Andrew Peasley completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to TE Gyllenborg on a fourth-and-7, and RB Sam Scott found the 2-point conversion as Wyoming smoked Texas Tech 35-33. HC Craig Bohl said it best: “Peasley is tough as boot leather.”
Wyoming is always trashed as having horrible colors. But I actually like the color scheme. Especially this combo. Paired with gold and accented with beautiful white helmets, not fancy, but classy with an element of toughness that embodies their home. I’ve always liked the Bucking Bronco logo, it’s identifiable and proud. The font is also old-timey and fun. In fact, the entire population of the state identifies with it, making these uniforms are about as close to perfect as you can get for a football team in Wyoming.
TTU wore a fine combo. I think that Texas Tech’s throwbacks are so damn good that every other combo they put together is just okay. I think black pants might have made this look a little more finished, but the weird split color shoulder and leg stripe turns me off of these.
Lots of people said Texas Tech was going to be special this year, and boy I am starting to see it manifest. Even with the hard loss and some tough mistakes, this was a tough environment against a pretty rough and tumble team. Maybe I’m being easy on them, but it could well light a fire under them when they play Oregon next week.

Brigham Young University Cougars vs Sam Houston Bearkats (BYU Wins, 14-0)
BYU: Blue/Blue/White (Link:https://imgur.com/a/85SZSwm )
SHSU: Orange/White/Orange (Link: https://imgur.com/a/yGDchGr )
Saturday’s game was the fewest points scored by BYU in a victory since a 6-3 win over Utah State in 2012. There were worse performances by Big 12 teams, but this game was a little bit of a slog. But let’s keep things positive: this was the Cougars’ first shutout since they beat Savannah State by 64 points in 2014 and first over an FCS opponent since they blanked Hawaii in 2012. 1-0 is not a bad spot to be. Next week vs Southern Utah (who we just saw) will be another litmus test for this squad.
The Sam Houston Bearkats are a new addition to the FCS, and I really am quite smitten with their style. It seems like they managed to find an orange that has not been used in college football yet, which I am very happy about. Other than that sweet color, this seems like a pretty bare-bones combo. SImple logo, but my favorite bit was the (936) on the front helmet bumper, which is of course the area code for Huntsville, Texas. Did you know the Bearkats play for the third oldest institute of higher education in Texas? Pretty neat. BYU wore arguably my favorite look of theirs that I’ve covered. I mean DAMN. Those white pants really accentuate the color so well. Maybe not the most traditional look BYU has in its arsenal, but still very nice.

BONUS UNIFORMS! Let’s have a look at our future four-corners Big XII teams as well!

University of Utah Utes vs University of Florida Gators (Utah Wins, 24-11)
UTAH: Red/Red/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/XMMgFwm )
GATORS: Orange/White/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/Mkw4sh9 )
Thursday night football, baby! This game has already been talked about to death, o I’ll go ahead and move onto the uniforms.
Red is such a tricky color to pull off as a block. Meaning, all-red uniforms are either really good or really bad. I don’t like Iowa State’s look, but I think Utah tends to add enough black to their suits to break up the aggressive color scheme. The unique striping is also a welcome change. I will say, I think I prefer a white helmet for the Utes, but I’m also not privy to the traditions as much. Hopefully I can learn more about them before their official entry next year.
Florida released a uniform schedule before the season, so if they ever show up again, I’ll know exactly what they are wearing. This suit seems to be their most common away uniform, and its a classic! I love the cursive Gators logo, outlined in blue. While I’m not normally a fan of tri-tone outfits, I think I can make an exception on this one. Also, I like that the color scheme speaks for itself. No “Florida” or “Gators” on the chest speaks to how recognizable the brand is. Also, Jordan school. Cool.

Arizona State Sun Devils vs Southern Utah University Thunderbirds (ASU wins, 24-21)
SUU: White/White/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/HeBsWzK )
ASU: Yellow/Maroon/Yellow (Link: https://imgur.com/a/nVQ8xZl )
While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen ASU on the tracker, I couldn’t be happier to cover them as Big 12 members. I have some family in the Southwest that roots for the Sun Devils, and I’ve always had a soft spot for the maroon and gold clad. ASU won against the Thunderbirds, but it was not a pounding like the fans might have hoped for. The sandstorm and rain delay did not do the Sun Devils any favors either. But a 1-0 start means Dillingham has some good material to start with in Tempe. Dillingham was a terrific recruiter and offensive coordinator at a high level for several years at Memphis, Auburn, Florida State, and Oregon, but now he really gets to grow into his own program. He’s also a Valley native and an ASU graduate, so here’s hoping for a good tenure.
ASU released new uniforms under the new regime! They wore what I consider to be their standard look, but with a twist! Since the 2011 rebrand, the Sun Devils have always worn their traditional gold/maroon/gold combo for the first home game of the season. The old uniforms had a sublimated Arizona flag on their front that was removed in favor of a simpler design. But don’t worry, the flag still makes an appearance on the sides of the uniforms. I also love the Pat Tillman shield on the collar. A departure from the chrome maroon and gold scheme from last season, the helmet features standard matte maroon decals with gold trim and a thin maroon border. The main issues I have with the new look are as follows: the flag, the pants logo and the shades of gold. The sublimated flag on the front of the jersey was excellent, and moving it feels a little odd. The large pitchfork on the pants is another strange addition. I think a smaller, more traditional logo on the pants would have fit better and helped tie in the different combos ASU uses. The Adidas/Pac-12 logos are a pale gold, the helmet being brighter, and numbers on the chest and back have a flame pattern that intentionally has varying shades in it, ending with the pants, which are pretty close to matching the helmet’s shade. This is really only noticeable in the close shots, though, so I’m not horribly peeved. Other than those few small gripes, what’s not to love? Arizona State has always been a strong uniform contender, and we will have lots to talk about throughout the season.
SUU had some pretty simple but clean uniforms. I won’t talk about them too much since I gushed over ASU, but the no frills red pants, professional looking white helmet with a good clean logo, and plenty of red sprinkled throughout. The “Southern Utah” on the chest is a little low because of the template, but we’ve seen that with a few teams already. A great fight from the Thunderbirds!

University of Arizona Wildcats vs Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks (Arizona Wins, 38-3)
U of A: White/Blue/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/om5nxAD )
NAU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/EeDHTpj )
Well, well… another Wildcat fan base joins the Big 12 fray. The Tuscon boys met up with the Flagstaff crew for a late game by Big 12 standards, and the result was a drubbing. Arizona limited NAU to 264 yards while forcing a turnover, recording eight tackles for loss, making three 4th-down stops—one on the goal line—and blocking a field goal attempt that was returned for a touchdown. QB Jayden de Laura accounted for 4 scores, three passes and a long TD run, finishing with 332 yards of total yards that included 255 on 18 of 24 pass attempts. They wore their revamped “Desert Swarm” look brought back in 2021, and they look great. There’s a reason that they returned, it’s because they are iconic.
The Lumberjacks have a LOT going on in their suits. Let me get to the good first: That throwback logo is BEAUTIFUL. Based on the 1968 primary logo, these look so good. Their helmet was one of my favorites from the whole week’s tracker. Now the bad (and maybe the ugly). The weird mountains (maybe?) on the side of the pants, the collar has a black and yellow braided cord design, and there’s a random blue spot on the shoulders. Now I get it, maybe it sounds like I’m picking on the little guy. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I think NAU and Flagstaff are awesome places to visit. Fun Fact: The elevation at street level is 6,880 ft. above sea level, the highest among NCAA Division I FCS football stadiums. The Lumberjacks is also a fantastic team name, with tons of options for iconography. But they aren't exempt from uniform scrutiny! Simple is sometimes better.

Aaaaand that’s all folks! Week 1 is all wrapped up. The first week in what is going to be, I’m sure, the best season of football yet. I apologize for the length of the tracker, but hopefully it was a fun read! Please let me know if you find any mistakes, and they will be remedied quickly. What did you think about the uniforms from this go-around? Let me know in the comments! What is your team going to wear next week? As always, thank you for your support, can’t wait to see you next week in the Big 12!

2023.06.07 06:35 Ok-Falcon-3075 (FNV) Brave New World not overwriting all vanilla VA's.

I don't know what happened, but before it was all fine, but now? It seemed like something overwrite it. I thought it was YUP + DLCs it tends to do that. My loadorder or (Plugins) is sorted out by LOOT and now it's all in alphabetical order (And I am talking about the plugins list, the one with archives, data, etc) I am still new to MO2 and I have been trying to manually drag the plugins, but that doesn't seem to work as MO2 won't let me. In my Modlist I have put Brave New World to the bottom but the problem still occurs. Any help? This is my load order

I decided to buy a model kit of Easy Eight from "Fury" movie. I love this film (dvds and blu-ray's are my hobby so it was obvious I will get movie kit). Some tips maybe?

2023.04.16 00:08 matte_purple Uniform Ranker 2022: West Virginia Mountaineers

Hello ladies and gentlemen of CFB! Welcome to my ranking of the 2022 uniforms for Mountaineer Football! I intend on ranking each Big XII team and new addition (BYU, Houston, UCF, and Cincinnati) soon. If you are interested in my thoughts regarding the Big XII uniform season, check out my 2022 Uniform Awards post and Big XII Uniform Tracker 2022: Season-in-Review post (WVU shows up quite a bit there). If you want to see more rankings, I just reviewed KU a few weeks ago, and the Cowboys before that. But for now, we’ll check out WVU’s uniforms from 2022, featuring some facts, stats, and history.
Give it up for Dan Nehlen and Austin Blake of the WVU Football Equipment team. Nehlen has been a member of the Mountaineer football staff since 1981, first as a student manager, then the assistant equipment manager in 1986 and the head equipment manager since 1988. His son is also an offensive FB analyst. They put together a very special product for each and every game. Cheers to a usually thankless job.
As always, feel free to disagree with me or tell me where my rankings hit home. I’m interested in hearing what you think, or in seeing how y’all would rearrange the rankings! I really enjoyed learning more about WVU’s history and tradition. Every time I do a ranking like this, I learn to love the Big 12 even more. I hope you enjoy the read!

I’m u/matte_purple, and lets 3,2,1 go!

12. Yellow/Yellow/Blue Week 2 vs KU (L 55-42)
Link: https://imgur.com/M8cVSSG
Ah, yellow. Usually, it shows up because schools either can’t or get tired of “gold” colored equipment. Baylor and WVU tend to be the only Big XII schools that use it in any meaningful capacity, and both transitioned from gold to yellow. Sort of. The colors were adopted by the school’s upperclassmen in 1890. The choice was sourced from the West Virginia state seal. Additionally, the words “gold and blue” are sung in the first verse of “Hail West Virginia,” the university’s fight song.
The WVU legislature actually lists their “gold” color as Pantone 124, so I’m not quite sure. I may need a fan/alumnus to enlighten me. Regardless, the uniform matched well with “gold rush” from the fans, but it just doesn’t match up with me. I think it’s the yellow helmet that does me in. Again, not a bad uniform, just not my favorite. Another interesting note: this combo was also worn in 2016 when WVU beat Kansas State for the very first time in the Big 12.

11. Blue/White/Yellow Week 10 @ ISU (L 31-14)
Link: https://imgur.com/kmSitcB
Rereading some of the comments from my past rankings leads me to believe that tri-color is equally disliked by most uniform fans. I would love a few more opinions on this, because I can’t stand it. Think about it. All the best “hard-hitting” classics in CFB fashion wear 2 main colors, with only a few other accent colors throughout. Oklahoma, UCLA, LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Michigan and a bunch of other traditional styles all adhere to this. Maybe I’m just over analyzing, but it seems like an X/Y/Z combo will always underperform to a X/Z/X or Y/Y/Z. Regardless, the blue helmet is nice, but the lack of symmetry and overall flow while paired against the bold cardinal red of ISU knocks it down a few pegs.

10. Blue/Gray/Blue Week 3 vs Towson (W 66-7)
Link: https://imgur.com/o1oFefH
I should mention again that these uniforms are not bad. I ranked WVU as one of the most improved teams uniform-wise in the Big XII in my 2022 Awards post. Gray is just another tricky color to work with. The color has been used pretty consistently through the past decade of Mountaineer sports, similar to OK-State, Oregon, and Arizona State. The team first experimented with grey in a 2010 Nike Pro Combat look that intentionally “smudged” some grey on black number fonts to simulate coal dust (as West Virginia is known for its historic coal mining). Grey helmets fell out of favor after the 2012 season. I’m just glad grey was only a jersey color. I do like the symmetrical blue, and it helps that the Mountaineer beat the brakes off Townson.

9. Blue/Blue/Blue Week 11 vs OU (W 23-20)
Link: https://imgur.com/L9OneMC
Hey man, I love a nice, cool monochrome look. KU put together a decent one, and OK-State's all orange Homecoming look topped my Cowboy list. These are special in that they have some Star-Spangled decals scattered through the look as well. Much like KU, though, I think a different facemask would have been a great addition. Imagine a great yellow accent on each piece of the uniform? But now that I mention it, I haven't been able to find a single example of WVU using their secondary color for a facemask. I hope it makes an appearance next season!

8. Yellow/Blue/Blue Week 12 vs K-State (L 48-31)
Link: https://imgur.com/x1631OU
We’ve already talked about the yellow helmet in the #12 spot. While it’s not my favorite helmet, I actually quite like it with the blue jersey and pants, hence why I put it above the all-blue suit. It especially seals the deal when yellow accessories are used. Yellow helmets have been a staple of WVU football for a while now, this same lid has been worn at least twice every season since 2013. It first appeared in the 1960s, made a reappearance in 1973-1978, meaning WVU went a full 35 years before putting yellow back on. I think there’s a reason, blue just looks too damn good.

7. Blue/Yellow/Blue Week 7 vs BU (W 43-40)
Link: https://imgur.com/ybTY931
This was a slugfest game but had some fun moments to watch. A blocked field goal taken to the house, two fumble recoveries, and a few other defensive follies helped the Mountaineers to a relieving win. Speaking of wins, blue helmets saw wins in 6/8 games they were worn. Pretty good, I’d say. The yellow is accentuated nicely by the navy, the simplicity of the design and overall lack of frills is refreshing. It was especially fitting that these were worn for WVU’s annual “Stripe the Stadium” game. A great compliment to the traditional Blue/Blue/Yellow uniform. This combo was also worn against Texas Tech in 2017, K-State in 2018, Texas in 2019, and Oklahoma State in 2020.

6. Blue/White/White Week 13 @ OSU (W 24-19)
Link: https://imgur.com/OuPZja0
First, I’ll say this. I know it's an unpopular opinion. I don’t like the WVU Stormtrooper look. I think it is one of the few cases where more yellow might actually look better. Especially if you add a blue facemask to break up the white. All that being said, this is a great alternative. All of the benefits of a crisp white look while not being too much. West Virginia has worn this uniform in 2013 and 2021 against Baylor, in 2019 against Kansas State, and in 2014, 2016 and 2020 against Texas. One thing I would love to see next year is some sort of alternate logo that incorporates the Mountaineer mascot, or maybe some sort of “‘Eers” logo. What do you think? But damn is the Flying WV logo good.

5. Blue/White/Blue Week 5 @ UT (L 38-20)
Link: https://imgur.com/uTfRu5n
This game was one of my favorites overall uniform matchups from the season. In fact, I rated it as the third best uniform matchup of the Big 12 season, behind Farmaggedon in Week 6 and Bedlam in Week 12. Burnt orange and navy blue were totally meant to be. A very pleasing game for the eyes. The symmetry really helps too. I think that if the “Cue Country Roads” uniforms weren’t such a factor in this ranking, this would be my favorite away look. With the fate of the special uniforms unknown, I suspect these will continue to be the most used away look, barring more alternates. Just one short gripe: I think the center collar Flying WV should also be gold, just to keep the continuity between the hip and helmet logo.

4. White/White/Yellow (Country Roads #3) Week 8 @ TTU (L 48-10)
Link: https://imgur.com/1UxXZMV
Okay, if you are involved in the college football uniform sphere at all, you know about the unbelievably awesome “Cue Country Roads” uniforms released in June of 2022, ahead of the Backyard Brawl. But these were actually supposed to be a one-off uniform especially for that game. However public praise for the combo was so great that they were worn two more times, with different pants. These looked AWESOME, hence the #4 spot. But the alternate uniform looks better with white and blue pants. Plus, the red and black of Tech detracts from the glory of these alternates more than the other matchups as well. Tough, but still one of the better combos from the season.

3. White/White/Blue (Country Roads #2) Week 4 @ VT (W 33-10)
Link: https://imgur.com/YrjHJ6b
These are just incredible. You’ll get to see me gush over these fully in the final spot, but for now I’ll say this: The only reason these aren’t tied with the #1 or #2 spot is because I think the pants detract from the overall design of the stunning alternate uniform. I personally think that the blue would have looked better than the original white pants but the flow of having the pants double yellow line makes more sense and completes the uniform better. But if the pants had some of the road map look to them? Oh damn, we’d be in trouble.

2. Blue/Blue/Yellow Week 9 vs TCU (L 41-31)
Link: https://imgur.com/tgwCh8r
This combo has been popular since the 2000s onward, but the 2019 refresh removed some of the more flash accents from previous renditions. I appreciate how these uniforms really feel classic from 2012 but also smoothed out the out-of-date kinks. When I see these, I think WV more than any other look, except for maybe the top entry...

1. White/White/White (Country Roads #1) Week 1 @ Pitt (L 38-31)
Link: https://imgur.com/Me5eWZ3
Cue Country Roads. Whether or not you are a WVU fan, a John Denver fan, or even a country fan, the words and song just scream Mountaineer. I know, there’s the whole thing about it not being about West Virginia but WESTERN Virginia, and that still doesn’t change my mind. These are beautiful. They are an incredible encapsulation of West Virginia as a culture, mindset, and symbol for an often neglected and ridiculed group of people. The look was designed in-house by Kristin Coldsnow from Fairmont, WV, the athletic department's lead graphic designer. The uniform was released on June 20 — again fittingly being West Virginia’s 159th birthday, were worn on the season opener — and mimicked the logo design from WVU’s 125th anniversary helmets back in 2016. This is the first new uniform for West Virginia’s football team since the program makeover in 2019. Now of course, the coolest thing about these uniforms are the “country roads.” The numbers, collar, sleeve caps and stripes all included a sublimated roadmap of Interstate 79 – the highway that leads from Morgantown to Pittsburgh – and other notable roadways throughout the state. Excellent timing, message, style, and a perfect balance of white, blue, and gold. It sucks that these ended in a loss, but it was a great game. Plus, these uniforms ended up being a combo in two more games. One of the best uniforms EVER.

Well, I think that does it! I hope you enjoyed my 2022 season Mountaineer Football uniform rankings. If anyone from WVU’s EQ team sees this, just know I very much appreciate your incredible creativity and hard work this past year. I’ll be slowly releasing more rankings for each of the Big XII teams as the offseason goes along. Again, feel free to comment or message me with any suggestions or changes to the rankings! Did your favorite look seem properly placed? Is the gray look underrated? Let me and all of CFB know! I’m going to catch a baseball game and start on the TCU rankings!
Hope to see you next time! Go Mountaineers!

2022.10.19 02:22 Max169well Ranking the 1996-2004 CFL Uniforms!

So to finish what I kinda started in 2020 in that it is part of a series as I already did the 2005 reebok redesign, The 2012 sequel and the 2016 Adidas/2019 New era uniforms (there was very little change between the two). I will be moving on to what I call to the minimalistic era for uniforms. Now I know not all uniforms were minimalistic but it is still the beginning of the template era of the CFL uniforms as the trend with many teams who kind of having the same dull look, that being a plain jersey with a logo, maybe some striping on the collar and a generic font. But to say Alternate and throwback uniforms started to take off in this era as they became popular through the North American sportscape but did not fully catch on for this era. The next era is when you will get a full implementation of Alts and throwbacks in the CFL.
This era was kicked off in the dust of the American expansion and will still see some tectonic shift in the league. This era also brought us two of the most epic uniform sets in the league. This is also where BFBS kicked in (mainly in the turn of the millennium). Though to be honest, this is where you will see a middle of the road kind of ranking as this isn’t the league’s worst era, just its most bland era. So the bottom few aren’t the worst of all time by any stretch but just too simplistic for my taste to be considered a great uniform. This is also the era we start to see add patches. Which for the most part were beer companies like Molson or Coorsbefore we would get the Rona or Scotiabank patches but we also saw the change of the league logo from the classic 2D helmet to the clean modern one in 2002 before the Grey Cup. To celebrate this both Edmonton and Montreal (they wore the French version) had worn the new logo on the left side with the old logo still in it’s place for the last time in the collar just before the new one would be settled there. To note in 2003 they added the Divisional logos to the helmets, it was cool but discontinued them towards the end of 2004. The Canadian flag would also start to pop up on the helmets and in 2001-2002 a white decal with the flag and the government of Canada’s logo would also be donned.
Also the Radically Canadian patch was born in this era and the teams participating in the Grey Cup wore the patches up until 2002. I really wish they had kept that going but we know they would be replaced with the ads. This is also known for its parade of uniform manufacturers like Adidas, Starter, Puma and Reebok (which were actually puma jerseys with the Reebok vector sewn over). As mentioned before, there is some overlap in previous eras with these uniform and while I will get to those in their time, I will also put them in this era too as most did last the time. So, let’s get started shall we?

9: BC Lions

The Lions of this era was drastically different from the Lions of the next eras, that being dull, to add to the sterile atmosphere of BC place at the time. But also whereas BC would be smart in 2005 and going Orange as their base, the Lions were black and silver and very little orange to make it pop. This set has its roots in the 1988 redesign and refined in time for the 1996 season with the removal of the helmet stripe, this is again the main culprit of the simplistic template that you will see. Up until the 2004 season, a silver dome, with silver pants (with orange on black striping) and a white and black jersey (which in the black jersey, they would win the Grey Cup in 2000). In 2004 they brought in very bland black pants with no striping but a small orange lion paw on the side. Most famously worn in Lions loss to a more superior dressed Argos in the Grey Cup. I may add though they brought in an orange jersey akin to their first uniforms for their 50th anniversary in 2003. Though it was just the jersey, the pants and helmet were the regular silver (or aforementioned black pants) but later in the season added a black paw as the logo.

8: Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan also falls in this camp too. A plain jersey with a logo on the sleeves. But unlike BC they brought in contrasting pants and that bomb ass helmet wrap which helped its rating but still kinda bland enough for this spot. This set also like BC had its roots in their late 80’s uniforms (like ones they won the cup in in 89) but again more simplified in 1990 Their main look in the era was for home, Green jersey over silver pants (which has a very New York Jets vibe to it) while on the road would go for a white over green look which was the set they wore when they lost to the Argos in 1997, the only Grey Cup appearance of the era. But also the set they wore on June 28th 2002 when they took on the newly christened Ottawa Renegades (which was my first CFL game, not really important, though I’d mention it). Other times they would go white over silver which again is bland but meh. The main reason why they are ranked low is that BFBS jersey. Why? It’s just not my thing. Sadly it would stick around until 2006. They normally wear the jersey in the latter half of the season and for that it’s almost always at night. Any combo of pants with it would look bad. This is also where I mention that they would pair the two home and away with the black pants starting in 2002. The away set most famously worn in this game! At least though they kept the helmet wrap.

7: Winnipeg Blue Bombers

I’m gonna level with you all, this jersey betrays the way the actual uniform would come together. Which is a pretty solid uniform but as a jersey it is bland too. I give it points over the other two but not by much as I say. Born in 1995 with the ditching of their more traditional look, this one started out the worst in the era with zero gold on it what so ever, the blue helmet, jersey and pants look for the home uniform just was so bad (though the lightning bolt on the side looked cool). This was also worn with the away uniform too. But the away was also supposed to be white on white. The White pants were also worn at home as well. Somehow I found they added gold pants to the blue dome look. But thankfully in 1999 they brought back the Gold dome and pants which was worn at both home and away which elevated the look to pleasant. (Again like I said, this wasn’t the worst era for uniform just a bland era) Really not much else to say about it, thye didn’t touch it after 1999 until 2005 but can’t put it in the best half. Though I have always like this picture from 2001!

6: Montreal Alouettes

The Als return from the dead and arrive fresh off a cup victory in Baltimore to the cavernous Olympic stadium in a bland look that feels the same way as Winnipeg’s (Seriously what was with the dark bland looks on bright ass Astroturf). They started off with Silver pants for home and for away uniform as well. Montreal would revamp their helmet in time for the 1998 season along with adding contrasting navy pants for the away and in 1999 introduce their most recognizable uniform outside of the 70’s as an Alt along with a simplified white stripe on the pants and with that old ass Moslon Ex patch before in 2000 keeping it as the main look (a look they would not tamper with until 2008) with the accompanying away uniform (along with a loss to BC in ref ball fashion in the Grey Cup that year) to kick off their dominance over the East. That same year Montreal would fall in the BFBS category by adding a bland black alt. This one would be around till 2006 (with a brief retirement in 2005) and would be used in the most ugly ass looking CFL game of all time (Yeah I know this is 2006 but I was at this game so fight me). Also that year they would wear a navy blue throwback (?) vs the Stamps to celebrate CBC’s 50th on TV? I say this cause while yes the game exists and I found photos and hell the full game on youtube, I have yet to find any evidence of Montreal wearing a navy blue jersey in the 50’s. To note, loved the logo unveiling mural just outside the Bell Centre, this was up will it was covered by a condo earlier this year.

5. Ottawa Rough Riders/Renegades

Sadly like the era after it, an Ottawa team dies after its first year. The only season they returned from their wandering in odd as fuck designs land, they return to the old red and black look. Though not the classic look of old. It still a solid look, the log driver is a good helmet logo that would rank up with Jason and the home and away which has a great feature of not being a white jersey but a kinda grey/silver base but is a great modern look and adds some points for the creativity. And this was their 120th Season which makes it even more sad that they went the way of the Dodo right after but still a very solid look. The Renegades on the other hand, again a solid and classic football look along with the logo! They take the base template of the era and add to it. Stripes on the sleeves! (It really goes a long way) The main look for the home uniform was a black jersey over white pants and the away uniform was white over black. Sometimes they would go monotone which the all black look was okay but the all white one was not alright. Overall though unlike the play on the field for the Renegades, Good showing. There was no alternate uniform in this set. An oddity is that in promoting the 2004 Grey Cup game which would be held in Ottawa (who still has the DVD?) the team would wear the Grey Cup logo on its jerseys

4. Calgary Stampeders

This is the era in which due to the vacuum of Ottawa not being in the league they really embraced black as a colour that they could use more of. I don’t blame them for doing this but they really should embrace red, white and silver more. But this era started out with Calgary fitting the mold set out by Saskatchewan and BC. Simplistic with zero details on the jersey 9 in home and away ) but with a helmet stripe. In 1994, they moved the stripe to the sleeve cuffs and added the logo for the home. It’s simple yet not a bland as BC’s.
Before their labour day game vs Edmonton, Calgary took to the field in warm ups wearing their regular red uniforms, but when they busted out game time, they were clad in a black jersey, the term they used to describe the jersey was it was their “outlaw jersey” and from there a great CFL tradition was born (I’m actually being serious about this, like I want Calgary to stop wearing black but this is the exception)! They of course wore it with the white pants as well as the red pants and this jersey they would also wear when they beat Hamilton in the 1998 Grey Cup.
In 1999 they would change up the striping and usher in gen 2 of the Outlaw jersey. With red on white UCLA stripes. This jersey would last till 2004. In 2000 the Stamps created in what is the third best jersey of this era in an update to their away uniform (probably cause they lost two Grey Cups to Baltimore and Hamilton/https://www.thespec.com/content/dam/thespec/sports/2017/11/23/a-team-made-up-of-championship-moments/B823658489Z.1_20171123143847_000_G9420G3SD.2_Gallery.jpg) in that one) which didn’t feature anything but numbers and changed it. Adding a red stripe at the sleeve cuff to match the home uniform, but moved the numbers to the sleeves and on it’s shoulder added the horseshoe secondary logo akin to Hamilton and Toronto. Black pants would also be added to the rotation and would be worn with all 3 jerseys through the era. They would also wear this logo on a helmet for a game in 2003 which a lot better of a concept than their stupid black helmet. They would also win the Cup vs Winnipeg in 2001 with this uniform. In 2004 they would pair red pants with it. Calgary would also bring in two throwbacks, a red one worn in 1998 to celebrate the undefeated 1948 team and a white one in 2001 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CBC on TV. So Calgary would be the first team to wear a throwback in the CFL.

3: Edmonton Eskimos

To simply put, consistent. They did not change their uniform at all in this era and in fact lived on (with some tinkering starting in 2005) till 2012 and brought back from 2016-2019. Is the one it replaced in 1996 better? Yes, but this is still solid. This era saw only three looks (minus a reprise of a retro helmet in 2003) Green on yellow, or White on yellow or white on white This is double edged for me cause I would have loved to see some alt but also the constancy in look and tradition needs to be appreciated. They had unveiled a bomb ass alt logo too in 1996 but even the polar bear couldn’t stand the snow and save them from Flutie and the Argos in Hamilton that year/https://www.thespec.com/content/dam/thespec/sports/ticats/2021/12/09/the-1996-grey-cup-game-was-at-the-same-time-forgettable-and-unforgettable/flutie_blugh_1.jpg).

2. Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

This is where we get into some of the best looks in CFL history. The home jersey is easily top 3 again for me. But does suffer from a break from the norm. The away is also a solid look. Now they came into this era as another hold out from their classic uniform until 1997 where in 1998 blasted with success (but add in a loss to Calgary in 98’) before quietly becoming a joke in the latter half. But their uniform is a bit inconsistent. The look for the most part at home anyways is Black on yellow and away is white on yellow. In 2001 they introduced black pants with a simple yellow stripe and wore it mostly with the black jersey but did wear them with the white jerseys too. In 2003 there was a change for the worst (to go along with their record), the elimination of the yellow stripe on the helmet, which just looks bad. The Yellow pants however received an upgrade. The big point I want to make is the big tiger head and tiger stripes is amazing and a big product of its time but a copy of a much better look in not too far down the road from them.

1. Toronto Argonauts.

I’m just gonna say it. The away uniform is the best uniform in the league’s history. The home while also good just doesn’t work for me. But both were solid and didn’t change at all (Blue over white and White over white) and the away capped off this era with a Grey Cup in 1996, and ended it with one in 2004. The Home also saw a Grey Cup in 1997. The funny part is though the concept is a hold over as well (for one year). Anyone remember these? While glorious, it’s just like the NHL alts at the time, over designed. But the uniform they had for this era was well designed. A bit bold with the Jason on the shoulder but also restraint (odd how they had the TM on for while). Two classic stripes on the sleeves (what their jerseys could use now), the pants striping is nice with the bolts, and that alternate logo and the Jason Argo on the helmet is mint. Easily the best of this era.
I'd love to know your rankings or opinions!

2022.09.05 01:26 matte_purple Big XII Uniform Tracker: Welcome Back!

Hello CFB! Welcome to the 2022 Big XII Uniform Tracker! Here we are, FINALLY, at the beginning of the brand new 2022-2023 season, with our Big XII crew taking on some talent from some other conferences. Let’s take a look at all the uniforms from these matchups!
As is the uniform tracker tradition it seems, let's put on some music for the read.
Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5NoQg8LdDk
I’m u/matte_purple, and lets 3,2,1 go!
**Oklahoma State Cowboys v. Central Michigan Chippewas (OSU Wins, 55-48)**
OSU: White/Orange/Orange (Link: https://imgur.com/a/sR3o1rV )
CMU: Maroon/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/8wyuFmd )
First off, let’s acknowledge the true revenge game this was. Everyone remembers September 10, 2016. The Pokes were looking to do some good old fashion vengeance in this game. I always look forward to the variety of Oklahoma State’s uniforms, and they obviously had some fun for this matchup. This combo was not worn once in the 2021 season, and featured the entire Pistol Pete decal on the helmet, accompanied by all orange. Some people take issue with the monochromatic uniforms, but I really don’t mind. Oklahoma State has had some Oregon levels of variety recently, which is fun for fans and uniform lovers alike. As a fairly recent OK-State fan myself, I’m excited to see what's next. A strong start to a strong season, here’s hoping for even higher uniform heights.
The Chippewas had clean looking uniforms, with solid colors throughout, and the single maroon “Fire Up!” on the leg. I would love to know the significance of it. They looked good in uniform, and on the field. CMU brought a very spiffy look to the party. The all-time series for the Chippewas is now 1-2 against Oklahoma State.
**West Virginia Mountaineers at University of Pittsburgh Panthers (Pitt Wins, 38-31)**
WVU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/ChX9T2i )
PITT: Yellow/Blue/Yellow (Link: https://imgur.com/a/Rn5zI55 )
The Backyard Brawl, the highly anticipated return of a classic rivalry. The two Blue-Yellow teams faced off in the 105th meetup for both teams. Boy, let me tell you, it was a stylish game. West Virginia has plenty of uniform options, but they marked the rivalry with a special edition jersey – their “Country Roads” uniform – that I wish they would add to the closet full time. I absolutely love the state outline around the flying WV on those helmets, and the actual road designs on the uniforms were subtle on the field. Excellent job by WVU equipment. This is the first new uniform for West Virginia’s football team since the program makeover in 2019. It provides a nice contrast to the bold yellow and blue of Pitt’s uniform, which, by the way, is a classic combo.
Pitt’s colors look fantastic after their refresh, also from 2019. If I had to nitpick one thing, the font is just a tad off. I know the steeper curves are supposed to resemble a particular cathedral in Pittsburgh, I know, but it's pretty unnoticeable. The colors pop very nicely, and the Panther’s looked dashing in their nail-biter victory over WVU.
**Texas Christian University Horned Frogs at University of Colorado Buffaloes (TCU Wins, 38-13)**
TCU: Purple/White/Purple (Link: https://imgur.com/31xiv5w)
CU: Gold/Black/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/WXgfQk8 )
Old Big XII vanguard versus the new Big XII, each about a decade removed from their conference movements. There are no more close games here in the Big XII slate. The team in purple did a decent job of putting the Buffs to rest, leading 24-6 in the fourth. Both teams showed up with some nice uniforms too. I have always thought that of the “horned” uniform collection, the white look was the best. I love the accents on the neckline, and the purple helmet with the black facemask has such a sleek look. While I prefer the white helmets to the purple ones, they are certainly better than the red/purple alternates I’m sure we will see this season.
CU had a classic combo, putting gold lids on top of an all-black base. This look is a “semi-throwback,” as they’ve been wearing the same black and black uniform since 1987, when it was introduced. The logo is also a throwback. The helmets were picked to honor Cliff Branch, who posthumously became CU’s first inductee to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I’ve never had issues with any of Colorado’s uniform combinations, and these are some of my favorites that they’ve put on. Tough loss for the Buffs, here’s hoping for a win against the next one!
**Texas Tech Red Raiders v. Murray State Racers (Tech Wins, 63-10)**
Tech: Black/Red/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/fUPiECd )
MSU: Blue/White/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/GpuZU31 )
The Red Raiders crushed their Kentucky opponents in a comfortable victory over Murray State on Saturday night in Lubbock. It was most certainly the widest margin in the Big XII, with Tech smoking Murray on a highlight filled game. I won’t mention it any more than I have to, but I hope Shough gets better, fast. As a K-State guy, I know how QB injuries can be.
In such a one-sided matchup, I tried to take a closer look at the uniforms. Tech had what I consider to be their best CURRENT uniform look. Most Tech fans will agree with me when I say we need the classics back. The look is fine, but odd additions like the Under Armour shoulder stripes, bits of red on the pant stripe, and of course the dreaded bevel T slightly lessen the effect. Despite this, the uniforms looked alright! No other complaints from me.
Murray had some plain white uniforms and blue pants, but what struck me as unique was the helmet stripes up top. I like the stripe a lot, though I can’t quite tell what design it’s supposed to be. It’s rare to see anything drastically different on a helmet stripe like that. I also like the logo on the helmet (only featured on one side). It is clean, unique, and features the racers mascot well. Here’s to some good luck for Murray State’s remaining schedule.
**University of Kansas Jayhawks v. Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (KU Wins, 56-10)**
KU: Blue/Blue/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/H8Xk3Q4 )
TTU: White/White/Purple (Link: https://imgur.com/a/iZ6NfFo )
I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect KU to have a blowout game go in their favor. They deserve to celebrate this week. A surprisingly lopsided matchup, KU rocked easily their best look. They have a habit of wearing horrible combinations, but luckily, they went with an easy decision choice for this win. I like it when they forgo the “KU” Trajan logo on the helmets for the Jayhawk, as can be seen in some of my previous posts. I also enjoy the subtle red around the edges of the uniforms. The font, of course, still looks off on their uniforms, but I prefer the clean look of the blue to a change in font. We’ll let them fix one issue at a time. Kansas did a great job and got a W! Here’s hoping for more for this burgeoning KU team.
The Golden Eagles had remarkably simple uniforms, with a different shade of purple. I don’t have too much to say about them. I do like the logo on the helmet, and the all-white facemask, helmet, and jersey combo is good and simple. If I could change one thing, I would make the “Tennessee Tech” on the front solid purple, not outlined in yellow. I do appreciate purple pants. Any time a purple team shows off they have purple, I get happy.
**Texas Longhorns v. University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks (UT Wins, 52-10)**
UT: White/Orange/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/vq6Nv7C )
ULM: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/Soqknxo )
The Longhorns are off to a good start, with the Warhawks of Louisiana not being able to keep up with the burnt orange faithful. Superstar Robinson did it all, as he typically does, with both a rushing and receiving touchdown. It was his fourth career game with both, and he accounted for 111 total yards on 13 touches. He rushed 10 times for 71 yards with a 9-yard score and caught three passes for 40 yards. However, the Longhorns looked good, as always. I don’t think I even need to discuss their uniforms, as iconic as they are. They wore their classic burnt orange tops and white pants which haven’t betrayed their style yet.
I really like the cleanness of ULM’s uniforms as well. An uncomplicated design with a classy yet traditional shoulder stripe accent. I’m not a huge fan of the helmet logo, and I wished that the maroon would show up a little more, but other than that, it was an inoffensive look. (Side note: The maroon worn by the Warhawks is officially called “Warhawk” as a color. Neat)
**Oklahoma Sooners v. University of Texas El Paso Miners (OU Wins, 45-13)**
OU: Crimson/Crimson/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/cK1Cq1X )
UTEP: Orange/White/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/gXEKXeX )
A new QB and Head Coach rose to the occasion to fix last year's “disappointing” season in a win against UTEP. Oklahoma is back on the grind with their timeless crimson uniforms. I have nothing to say about the normal armor OU has on. They jumped on the board quickly with a five-play, 75-yard drive that took just over a minute and culminated in a Dillon Gabriel 12-yard touchdown run. It was all easy going from there. Let’s see what the SEC-Big XII hybrid has in store for us this season.
UTEP came dressed in some unique suits. The helmet has a new logo featuring the 915 El Paso area code and a pickaxe. I dig it. They add a nice bit of variation to the otherwise “stormtrooper” look with the blue facemask, yellow-orange and blue accents on the shoulder stripes and numbers. Nice and clean. I wish them luck against NM State.
**Kansas State Wildcats v. University of South Dakota Coyotes (K-State Wins, 34-0)**
K-State: SilvePurple/Silver (Link: https://imgur.com/a/20HzE6t )
USD: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/exXPwWF )
Malik Knowles raced 75 yards on a jet sweep for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and the Kansas State Wildcats dominated the South Dakota Coyotes. In a defensive showcase against the Coyotes, K-State donned their regular uniforms. Heisman dark horse Deuce Vaughn had 126 yards on 18 carries, and one TD. Similar to a few other teams in the Big 12, K-State likes consistency in their brand, and they don’t often deviate from these colors. Adrian Martinez, Deuce Vaughn, and the familiar Collin Klein have a lot to show in the coming season.
The Coyotes - despite the loss – looked nice. The uniforms were clean but lacked anything show-stopping. I did like the font, and the striped pants paired well with the shoulder stripes. I did like the logo on the helmet. It looked nice and added a bit of eye-catching chrome to the look. Simple is better than a try hard uniform.
**Iowa State Cyclones v. Southeast Missouri Redhawks (ISU Wins, 42-10)**
ISU: White/Red/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/SKX3ZGZ )
SEMO: Black/White/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/4ClhISB )
Iowa State kicked off the season in a classic uniform combo that utilized the team’s colors. Xavier Hutchinson and Hunter Dekkers connected for three touchdowns, establishing a nice offense. Aside from the font and its weird lines, the uniform looked good. White/Red/White will look good regardless of secondary color. Not the best uniform in the Big 12, but one of the better choices in ISU’s repertoire. I wish that ISU would use other logos aside from the Block I.
The last time Southeast Missouri played against a Big XII opponent was against Kansas in 2017. This was a notably less close game than the last, however, but the uniforms were improved. SEMO’s uniforms were updated in 2017, and are a clean white, with a red stripe on the lid and the Redhawk logo displayed on each side. The shoulders are only halfway red. They also featured an odd red diagonal stripe on the front of the black pants. This is something I haven't seen in a uniform before, but I don’t know if I like it or not. It almost looks like a harness for a zipline, or something like that. The contrast between the two opponents was sharp. Beat the Southern Illinois Salukis next week!
**Baylor University Bears v. State University of NY at Albany Great Danes (BU Wins, 69-10)**
BU: Green/Green/Green (Link: https://imgur.com/a/GDL0Tqv )
SUNY: White/White/Purple (Link: https://imgur.com/a/kCIPcLG )
I just want to say, I have always loved the Great Danes as mascots. Mix in a little purple to the equation, I am a huge fan. I didn’t see anything mind blowing about this game, aside from the blowout itself, which was the largest margin of defeat in program history, surpassing the 65-7 defeat University of Albany suffered against Hofstra in 1990, when the Great Danes were still Division III. According to BaylorUni on twitter, the Bears are now 11-3 in all greens since their rebranding in 2019. Again, the monochromatic works for me, especially in green. I do wonder how a yellow facemask would look, though.
Albany looked good as well. There have been a surprising number of purple teams this week, and out of all of them, this one is the simplest. Purple logo, purple and yellow shoulder stripes, purple numbers, and then white. Simple and clean, per the usual trend. At least they looked good in the loss.
BONUS UNIFORMS! Let’s have a look at our future Big XII teams as well!
**Brigham Young University at University of South Florida Bulls (BYU Wins, 50-21)**
BYU: White/White/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/3SNcelI )
USF: Gold/Green/Gold (Link: https://imgur.com/a/dPuIiLJ )
Despite a solid effort from the Bulls of South Florida, BYU ran up the scoreboard early on, featuring Nacua taking the first play of the game from scrimmage 75 yards for a touchdown just 11 seconds into the game, and No. 25 BYU rolled to a 50-21 win.
USF wore their new-ish home uniforms, and I like the chrome accents, but the color scheme does get to me. It looks like old Baylor colors but more faded. The pants also seem to be a slightly distinct color than the helmets. It's always tough to get good gold threads, which is why most teams have reverted to yellow. Other than that, the uniforms looked alright.
BYU came in looking with their all whites and navy accents. I much prefer the royal over the navy, and I also would have liked a little bit more color on the pants. None of BYU’s uniforms are bad, but there are better ones.
**University of Houston Cougars at UTSA Roadrunners (Houston Wins, 37-35)**
UH: White/Red/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/JYsa2wK )
UTSA: Navy/Navy/Navy (Link: https://imgur.com/a/DDfUOx0 )
Can I start by saying that I am hyped to have Houston in the Big XII? This game was a fun game to watch. 3 OT in an edge-of-your-seat match, Houston quarterback Clayton Tune leapt over a defender to score on a 13-yard run and the 24th-ranked Cougars escaped with a victory. Also, these are some drippy uniforms. In an ultra-rare occurrence, we have seen a color-on-color uniform game. Houston’s white caps with “HOUSTON” in bold on the side, and the bright red is a fantastic look. Aside from the 4-5 small logos on the front of the jersey, these are very nice.
The navy blue of the Roadrunner’s buckets, with the pop of the orange first and foremost contrasted well with the Cougars on TV. The Cougars have a crispness in their uniforms with the red/white contrast, whereas UTSA’s muted scheme melds together, but stands out because of said muted uniform. Also, UTSA has those unique shoulder pads with the enlarged logo. Super cool concepts, I cannot knock them at all. A huge offensive performance from H-Town and QB Clayton Tune. I can't wait to follow both teams more.
**University of Cincinnati Bearcats at University of Arkansas Razorbacks (Hogs Wins, 31-24)**
CIN: Black/White/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/azPvcRT )
ARK: Red/Red/White (Link: https://imgur.com/a/3eULmsc )
Cincy hasn’t beaten a current SEC member since beating Vanderbilt 31-24 in 2011’s Liberty Bowl. The Bearcats could not get it done this time either. The #19 Hogs powered through for their first season-opening win over a ranked team since 1975 with a 31-24 victory.
Despite the loss, the Bearcats are going to be a formidable team this season and will obviously look to replicate the success they had in 2021. They did so in uniforms that were identical to the ones they wore in the college playoffs (sans the Cotton Bowl Patch). I have the same problem with these that I do Texas Tech: where’s the red? I see some on gloves, wraps and headbands, but I need more than just white and black! Despite this craving, these Under Armour unis look good and clean, and I like the accenting on the chest/shoulders.
Arkansas wore their normal home duds, complete with shiny bucket and fancy three strip britches. Good ol’ fashioned Arkansas uniforms. I can’t say anything bad about them! Woo Pig Soiee.
**University of Central Florida Knights v. South Carolina State Bulldogs (UCF Wins, 56-10)**
UCF: White/Black/Black (Link: https://imgur.com/a/UGAwxVo )
SCS: White/White/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/bpkT187 )
I have heaped my praises on the equipment team at UCF for a long time. Three weeks before their matchup, they gave an early uniform release, showing off three uniforms they will wear during the season. I am personally a major fan of the ones they wore during the game, dubbed the “Black-on-Black” uniforms (very original). They don’t call it Drip U for nothing. Featuring a shadowy Pegasus silhouette on the shoulders, and a subtle three stars on the legs in lieu of a traditional stripe. It also has a sword outline functioning as the helmet stripe. I’m a major fan.
SC State had some good-looking unis. Officially labelled garnet and blue colors, they looked like the team that the heroes in a HS football game movie play against in the championship. Old school, but not bad at all. In fact, it's refreshing to see an old school look pulled off in this day and age. On an interesting note, they have always had this same logo. And it looks classic, but good!
Aaaaand that’s all folks! Week 1 is all wrapped up. Not a bad week, either, as the Big XII went 9-1 total, with the new additions going 3-1.
I hope you enjoy yourselves this week, can’t wait to see you next time! If you liked this post, have anything additional to add/suggest, leave an upvote, comment, or message me! See you next week in football’s greatest conference!

2022.03.21 17:26 Lyonmanes [FNV] Fallout TTW FPS problem

Hello.
I've been playing a modded TTW playthrough with over 24 save hours now and I've started noticing a gradual FPS drop after playing with the save for 5 to 10 minutes. My normal FPS stays around 70 to 80 FPS but after those 5 or 10 minutes it drops to around 45 FPS and the only way to bring it back up is to switch the cell but it only helps for a minute before the FPS drop occurs again. The FPS drop happens everywhere and carries over to other cells too. Reloading the save or fast traveling doesn't help either. I already eliminated ENB from possible factors and my 4gb patch should be intact and working. My modlist is 90% based on Fallout NV's Nuclear modlist and I only play with mods that are already TTW compatible or they are converted to it so it shouldn't be a TTW to mod related incompatibility. I haven't removed or updated mods mid playthrough so it shouldn't be a mid playthrough mod manipulation related problem either.

2019.01.17 00:21 RISCfuture DCS: CE II first impressions

Hey, just loaded up the CE II for my first few flights, and I'm pretty disappointed in what it is vs. what I thought it would be. If you're looking for an aircraft at Yak 52-level quality to fly right now, I would hold off. Here are my thoughts:
I realize this is still not a released project, but neither is the Yak, and I kind of expected I'd be getting something that felt like the Yak in terms of level of quality. I'm sure M3 can only improve the quality of the CE II from here, but as of right now I would recommend against flying it.

2018.12.07 07:17 ExoticRPGs Fallout 4 Face Paint Bug

So I have been having this issue for the longest time where face paints that are from a DLC or mod refuse to load their textures, instead showing the last vanilla face paint that was highlighted. All of the vanilla ones seem to work, but when I try to apply a child of atom face paint from Far Harbor for example, it simply won't load its texture properly. 2018.07.01 22:35 Yzalirk Fallout 76 - Thoughts From A Nobody

Hello all,
With the announcement of Fallout 76 a few weeks back, I have noticed quite a bit of outrage among fans in the Fallout community while watching videos uploaded by popular Fallout YouTubers. That inspired me to create an account here on and share some thoughts I had that could put some people at ease. I feel that these YouTubers hardly think outside of the box on things that may or may not be implemented into Fallout 76.
Among those was the confirmation of no human NPCs. Note the key word here being human. That is why I have been speculating on four possible alternatives on who, or what, we could be interacting with that I have heard no one mention yet.
  1. There is the obvious idea that NPCs could be replaced with Ghouls or some variant of Ghouls like the announced Scorched characters. The idea is that they have not completely went insane and retain some social and communicative skills. They technically are not considered human and look relatively different than an average human.
  2. The next idea is a bit of an oddball one but focuses primarily on any life within the Greenbriar Hotel. As we saw in the Nuka World DLC for Fallout 4, John Caleb Bradburton was basically a head in a jar being kept alive with advanced technology. Perhaps the same case could have occurred with important political figures before the Great War.
  3. Another strange idea too but debatable who is to say this is not another Mr. Robert House scenario? We could meet certain characters of significance in the form of Securitron type of robots with faces projected on a screen while the physical form of that person is in some sort of stasis pod. Bethesda hardly uses anything as canon that they did not create, at least I think, so this could be less plausible.
  4. Lastly, they could be like that of the scientists from Big Mountain in Fallout New Vegas's Old World Blues DLC. This is probably the more crazy idea of the bunch but is still just a thought.
Those are my ideas regarding NPCs based of what has been seen in the Fallout universe. Again, it is all speculation based on the idea that no human NPCs are in the game. I personally think these would be an interesting take on the matter rather than communicating with an intercom or only terminals and notes.
Another thing I want to touch on briefly is the main quest. I believe the main quest will granted by that of the Overseer and will eventually bring you to all regions of West Virginia. There will also be smaller main quests in all regions to help tie into the actual main quest. I am unsure of what it is but it could possibly be looking for other Vault Dwellers who left earlier than you, the player, or for trying to secure West Virginia and rid it of hazardous flora and fauna hence the reason for nuclear missiles at the end of the game. A step to rebuilding the world is cleansing it of dangerous creatures and reviving industries, like that of the steel mills in The Pitt.
On the subject of nukes, I see the stereotypical response that edgy twelve year old children will blow everybody up left and right is I think not entirely true. Thinking logically here, it would not be easy to assemble a code to do that for a specific launch site. There is probably multiple sites, i.e. Site A to Site D. You would need to accumulate a big code for Site A using only Site A specific codes. That means they are not universal and will only work for its specific launch site. They could be more rare than Legendary drops. That being said, why waste such an opportunity to blow up somebodies shack that will not be entirely destroyed? It seems the whole point of the nuclear missiles is to seal Scorchbeast fissures and create high level zones to collect more valuable stuff. There is the possibility of you nuking an area far away only to be ransacked by another group who is closer to it. My only concern with this is what can and cannot be nuked. It would not be fair if the area right outside of Vault 76 gets nuked and new players immediately die to radiation or stronger enemies.
One of the things I was most excited for was the settlement feature. That changed a bit when I heard there will be a small building capacity to primarily support a player house, some defenses, and crops. Basically what we see in the gameplay. That disappointed me a lot because I love building big settlements in Fallout 4 but I understand there are limitations. For me, that begs the question - will there be a group build capacity? By this, will the building capacity increase when you are in a group? Alternatively, will there be Perk Cards that increase the limit? It seems that one of the major points is to rebuild civilization. How is that possible when all you can build a small house? I want to be able to create settlements like Megaton or Arroyo. Even if my friends are not great builders I would not mind taking the reins and building for them if there is a group capacity. One of my dream goals was to create a town, a safe haven if you will, for players to come barter and stuff. Once I play the BETA and see what it is like, I will provide further feedback.
On of my favorite things I liked that was confirmed was the Perk Card system. I feel it emphasizes roleplay and character specialization very nicely. It did not make sense in Fallout 4 that you could eventually become a master at everything rendering your initial build late game. Players can specialize as Doctors, Cooks, Carpenters, and so on. That means everyone will play a pivotal role within the world opening up many avenues for trade and teamwork. If I could be the best at everything, why would I need to barter for Stimpacks when I can make them myself? I just hope with the system you are not always limited to who you are in the case you do not want to make several alt characters. Again, further feedback and thoughts will be provided once the BETA is released.
The only role that seems to be useless is being a Raider. The whole point of being a Raider is to kill and take from people. The reward is just not there based on what I have heard and said. You cannot steal or loot from players and that is very reasonable. I would get very annoyed if someone stole my Two Shot Missile Launcher too. But to get rewarded with eight caps for killing another player just seems to be a waste of time and ammunition. That is why I wonder if Raiders can steal from the vending machines we saw in the settlement building gameplay. It gives players an incentive to add defenses to their settlements and seems like fair game when a player is offering an item.
Another unique system that was mentioned was Mutations. I think there are many opportunities with this. Players, if they choose to, can finally become Ghouls. The Fallout 4 perk Ghoulish I think provides a nice standpoint for this as they work like Traits from previous installments. The trade off would probably be along the lines of being healed by radiation and loosing Strength or Charisma. I hope there will be an option to look like the Scorched for reasons. Also having blistered skin like Pitt Raiders and Slaves you see in Fallout 3 would be cool. Not every wasteland inhabitant is beautiful so having these opportunities to give your character more personality goes that extra mile. I would definitely use this for my Pitt Raider inspired character and tribe.
All thoughts aside, as I cannot think of any more at the time, I want to share some ideas for what I want to see. I will try to keep them as brief as possible. So if you are reading this Bethesda, take note!
  1. More Power Armor Customization. I loved that Fallout 4 added this but there just needs to be more. I downloaded a mod that allows for decals to be added to the Power Armor itself which was really cool. It gives the armor more character. The paint jobs are nice and all but we are living in a post-apocalyptic world and Power Armor should reflect that. There should be different coats of paints with rust as well as tribal and raider themes for the classic T-45 and T-51 Power Armors. I love those suits the most and if I could rock something like the Tribal Power Armor from Fallout 3, I would be ecstatic. The paint scheme on it was awesome but the use of a Brahmin skull to replace one of the pauldrons was nice. Even the Scorched Sierra Power Armor from Fallout New Vegas was nice with the Yao Guai head on the shoulder. Stuff like that is what I want added the most. This being a multiplayer game, there should be tons of customization options.
  2. More Weapons. I am talking heaps, including weapons from Fallout 3 like the R91 Assault Rifle and the Chinese Assault Rifle. The Fallout 4 Assault Rifle was lame and felt more like a Machine Gun than a proper Assault Rifle. I also really enjoy melee weapons in Fallout 4 so if I can use stuff like a Bumper Sword with rusted tribal or raider T 45/T-51 Power Armor to get fulfill that wasteland warrior feel I am set.
  3. More Character Customization Options. I want to see more beard and hair styles as well as war paint/face paint. If my character could have a long Nordic beard with braids and rings, that would be badass! A few options would be great. Now combine that with some war paint and success.
  4. More Building Options for Settlements. I downloaded mods in Fallout 4 to add assets to build in my settlements, like destroyed cars for makeshift walls as well as exclusive vendor signs and wall vents or exhausts you see on buildings. Pretty much what I am asking for is that most things you find in the game can be made with the exception of tall buildings. If you want to live in a trailer, you should be able to do that! Or if you want to turn your settlement into an ammo factory, you have that option!
  5. Legendary Crafting. Maybe this is too much but if you have something with a trait you like, you can approach a master crafter who will put said trait onto another weapon or armor piece. Same applies with Power Armor because there were hardly an Legendary Power Armor pieces.
Thanks everyone for reading, have a great day!

2017.09.17 18:35 CockADoodleBOOM 2017 Big XII Uniform Tracker Week 3: PONIES! DEVILS! ANGRY WAAAAAVE!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD AFTERNOON, /CFB! Welcome back to another edition of the Big XII Uniform Tracker, THE premier weekly discussion thread for Big XII uniforms and the teams that wear them!
It was a mixed bag in the conference this week, with Texas Tech surviving, Oklahoma State going supernova, and Texas punching above their weight, but losses by Kansas State, Kansas (again), and Baylor (again again) made it just an okay weekend for the conference as a whole.
Here’s our music to read this post to.

LET’S

DIVE

IN

Oklahoma State Ball Oklahoma State (Paisley/White/Black) @ Pittsburgh (Gold/Navy/White) Pittsburgh Ball
PAISLEY BACK! For the first time since the Alamo Bowl, OSU has pulled out their dope paisley helmets, this time with the understated black facemasks. This is a great look. Like, seriously. I love the balance, and the paisley accents on the jerseys pair so well with the paisley helmets. We’re three weeks in, and OSU has pushed all the right buttons thus far this season. They’re the early favorites for Team of the Year.
Pitt’s 2016 uniforms refresh has grown on me, but I still think Pitt is one of those teams that should keep the mixing and matching to a minimum. Gold/Navy/Gold is just so good! There’s no need for the white pants here! This was still a fine look, but gold pants would have really put it over the top.
Regardless of Pitt’s pants situation, this game looked good as hell. OSU 59-21 PITT
Delaware State Ball Delaware State (White/White/White) @ West Virginia (White/Navy/Navy) West Virginia Ball
Last time we saw this look, West Virginia was running over Kansas during the 2016 season. It’s still an excellent combo. I would prefer gold helmets, but the white ones look really crisp when paired with the dark navy parts. It’s kinda weird because I associate this combo with Big XII conference games later in the year, but this time it’s being broken out in mid-September. shrugs
I wish Delaware State wore red for this one, but that’s about all I have to say about that.
WVU continues to be pretty good at the uniforms thing. WVU 59-16 DSU
Iowa State Ball Iowa State (White/White/White) @ Akron (White/Navy/White) Akron Ball
The most interesting combo in the conference this week! Iowa State came out in all-white for the first time since the 2016 El Assico, and it looked pretty solid. Though, I just wish that the helmet stripes matched the rest of the uniform. When the shoulders and pants have the same cardinal-gold-cardinal pattern, you HAVE to continue onto the helmet. The white-based helmet decal is interesting, though.
Akron, guys. Here’s all I have to say: if you’re gonna be shit at the football thing, you might as well do something at least moderately interesting with your look. That wasn’t the case here.
Meh. ISU 41-14 AKRON
Baylor Ball Baylor (Gold/White/Gold) @ Duke (White/Blue/White) Duke Ball
Returning from the 2016 Oklahoma game, it’s Gold/White/Gold! I would have preferred to have a little green somewhere in here with Duke going with a more white-based look, but I consider it a minor win anytime Baylor wears their gold helmets. I like the balance here a lot, but I can’t help the feeling that with the gold paws on the sleeves, this is a bit too much gold. It’s a competent look overall, but I can’t deny that Gold/White/Green or Green/White/Gold would have been a better alternative.
Duke went full Colts in this game, and despite my position of FTC, I can’t deny that this is a good look. I’m honestly just glad Duke didn’t wear black in this game. When they stick with blue, they’re one of the best-uniformed teams in their conference.
This looked pretty good! I would have made some adjustments, but it ended up still looking pretty solid overall. DUKE 34-20 BAY
Kansas Ball Kansas (White/White/White) @ Ohio (Green/Green/Green) Ohio Ball
In the wild world of Kansas combinations, all-white is one of their better ones. I’m still never quite pleased by the retro Jayhawk on the side of the white helmets (it should be the current logo, imo), but regardless, this is a pretty strong look. I just wish Kansas played better in it.
Ohio’s White/Green/White combo is legitimately one of my very favorite looks in this sport, but I understand why they opted for an interesting all-green combo this time around. With Kansas going all-white, all-green makes a lot of sense. A lot of teams have matte helmets, but these green ones by Ohio are weirdly some of my favorites. They’re just a lovely shade.
This ended up looking fine. I’m not particularly a fan of “all one color” vs “all-white” games, but this one was pretty alright, all told. OHIO 42-30 KU
SMU Ball SMU (White/Red/White) @ TCU (Purple/White/White) TCU Ball
TCU decided to do a white-out at home this week, which was pretty cool I guess. And this combo looks pretty good, too, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that they should have just worn all-white and been done with it. Like, you all wear all-white basically every week already; why not just do it again? The shiny purple helmets just felt like they were half-doing it.
SMU is out here, guys. Very quietly, they’ve put together a STRONG uniform set, and this White/Red/White combo in particular was excellent. From the red chrome facemasks to the impeccable sleeve striping to the dope Dallas skyline helmet decals, these are some dope duds for the Ponies. I’m super in on SMU right now.
This ended up being a pretty solid-looking game, but it just kinda looked like an SMU home game the entire time. TCU 56-36 SMU
Tulane Ball Tulane (White/White/Grey) @ Oklahoma (Crimson/Crimson/White) Oklahoma Ball
ANGRY WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE!!!! OU 56-14 TULANE
Kansas State Ball Kansas State (SilveWhite/Silver) @ Vanderbilt (Gold/Black/Black) Vanderbilt Ball
Vandy’s matte-ish gold helmets looked awesome in the promo pictures, but I was less enthused when I saw them in action. The gold was almost too gold, and it looked kind of green from some angles. That being said, I really liked the nod to Vandy teams of old, as that Gold/Black/Black combo is what I immediately think of when I picture Vanderbilt football. It was pretty okay overall.
Kansas State looked good. VANDY 14-7 KSU
Arizona State Ball Arizona State (Gold/Maroon/Gold) @ Texas Tech (White/White/White) Texas Tech Ball
Texas Tech did their home whiteout the correct way. They actually wore all-white! Tech’s all-white is one of the stronger all-white combos in the conference, as they have enough colored accents to where even if I’m just flipping channels, they still look like Texas Tech even when they’re really not wearing their colors. This was good.
Arizona State should just go back to wearing this combo every week. It’s so perfect. It’s so bright. It’s so Arizona State. I love it a lot, from the balance to the colors to the pitchfork accents. Great work by ASU. TTU 52-45 ASU
Most of the time, I think this would be the best-looking game of the week. But I think this time, it’s second only to…
Texas BallTexas (White/White/White) @ Southern Cal (Cardinal/Cardinal/Gold) USC Ball
This was just classic. SO CAL 27-24 UT (2OT)
As per usual, here are all the individual team trackers, updated to include this week:
Baylor Ball Baylor
Iowa State Ball Iowa State
Kansas Ball Kansas
Kansas State Ball Kansas State
Oklahoma Ball Oklahoma
Oklahoma State Ball Oklahoma State
TCU Ball TCU
Texas Ball Texas
Texas Tech Ball Texas Tech
West Virginia Ball West Virginia
AND WITH THAT, that is all I have for the Week 3 edition of the 2017 Big XII Uniform Tracker. Smash that upvote button if you enjoyed this /CFB original content, and throw a comment down below if you have something to say.
Next week, we’ll have our first conference games! Oklahoma will travel to Waco to play Baylor, WVU will be at Kansas, and Oklahoma State will host TCU. Texas Tech will play their nonconference finale at Houston in a game that probably should be a conference game. Texas, Iowa State, and Kansas State will all be on bye weeks, but we’re still gonna have fun without them.
See you all next week!
Baylor Ball Iowa State Ball Kansas Ball Kansas State Ball Oklahoma Ball
Oklahoma State Ball TCU Ball Texas Ball Texas Tech Ball West Virginia Ball
