I had a betta I had to rehome because I thought he was killing my other fish. I even nicknamed him “Mr Murder Bean” because of it.
Long story short it wasn’t him, it was a murderous glotetra which has since been rehomed.
The girl I had given him to reached out about a week ago to ask me questions because she said he wasn’t swimming much and didn’t know what was wrong with him. She said her tank parameters were 0,0,20 and that although she didn’t have a heater, the tank stayed stable at 76-78F.
She explained he just laid half on his side at the bottom of the tank. No bloat, no pineconing, no obvious signs of illness. I advised saltwater dips and to fast him as she mentioned she may have been overfeeding him. After 3 days of doing that, he still wasn’t doing well so I offered to take him in to see if I could help.
I took him back 2 days ago and I honestly don’t see anything physically wrong with him. He doesn’t seem overly skinny or fat and there truly are no visual cues as to why he might be acting the way he is. I have started him on metroplex just to start somewhere but I dont know what else to do. I have him in a 1 Gal quarantine with a cycled sponge filter and an airstone, as well as a heater. He still isn’t eating and just seems… weak. I know this betta is less than a year old as I rehomed him just a couple of months ago, and I’d barely gotten him a month prior.
I am distraught as while I had him he was the liveliest and friendliest fish you’d ever seen, eager for “pets” every time I came close to the tank.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm a 35 year old father, my daughter is 13 and my wife/her mom died in 2018 (medical issue while driving leading to an auto accident).
It's been difficult raising her mostly on my own, as any single parent knows, playing the role of both parents. I'm not super gender-role mindsetted as a parent, but some things a girl wants a mom to talk to and only having a dad is unfortunate. I learned as much as I could about periods and whatnot before she got her first (a few weeks after she turned 10). I talk to her all the time about relationships, boys, consent, and so on. I've tried my best to walk the line between building her body confidence and talking too much about bodies as she grew up. All of that stuff that normally you'd want to lean on the mom for. It's not been easy.
As she's 13, she's become more and more argumentative. I know it's normal, but the mood swings and personality changes have been difficult to say the least. She's very crabby in the mornings, which is when most of our arguments occur. I know this is hormonal, but I also know not to mention that it's hormonal.
She has started having some body image issues. I'm 1/4 Hawai'i and my wife/her mom was 1/2 black and 1/2 white, so my daughter is 5/8 white. Still, she's definitely mixed with darker skin and hair. She's tried to dip her toes into black culture and not found it super welcoming and feels a bit lost as to identity which has been tough for me to really reconcile. I try to build her up on "You are you, an individual, and you don't need to identify with any specific thing from any specific culture but have confidence in yourself." Still, she has identity issues with wanting to belong and not feeling it.
Recently she got written up at school for saying to a boy: "shove a bloody tampon up your ass." She refused to tell me why she said it, but said he deserved it. So, since she wouldn't tell me, I had a conversation about appropriate ways to handle conflicts and how when you take the high road you usually come off as the good guy to others and don't get in trouble.
She does rowing, and recently told me she wanted to start joining me for workouts on top of her rowing. Some father-daughter time, which I was down for. We do her workout (which makes my glutes sore as heck) and then some weight lifting, which is my primary workout.
Earlier this week with the warm weather arriving she put on some shorts to wear to school. I told her that she had outgrown them since last year and needed to wear something else. They looked like they were literally stretched across her backside and too short. This immediately broke down into a conflict of "are you saying I have a big butt?!" To which I reiterated that, no, she simply outgrew her old shorts. Her mom was very curvy, and when I brought that up her response was just to be more insulted saying "Oh, so you're saying I have a big butt like mom?!" We went back and forth for a bit, and it got to the point to where she was just looking to be mad and I was pretty frustrated.
The next day, while we were working out, she admitted that she's really struggling with her body image. The boy she told to shove a bloody tampon up his ass has been harassing her at school, calling her "Jiggle butt" because it "jiggles when she walks." She also revealed that she does the workout that she does because it's supposed to make your butt firm and this was in response to the boy at school's comments.
She told me that when I punished her for the comment at school she felt like I wasn't being supportive and trusting that she made it for a good reason. She also said that when I told her she couldn't wear those old shorts that, in the moment, she felt like I was judging her body and not supporting her. Which really hurt, because even though I feel like all I do is support her I can understand why should feel that way.
I assured her that wasn't the case. She's a very healthy girl. She doesn't overeat and isn't overweight. Fairly skinny and in shape, but just curvy due to genetics. She does rowing twice a week and works out 3 other days with 2 non-workout days. She has a healthy body. She eats enough and gets good nutrition (although her love for cottage cheese and wanting it with every meal drives me crazy). I'm worried that if the body image issues continue that it could spiral into an eating disorder or other, darker thoughts. She really isn't someone who should be worrying about her body at all.
I really need advice going forward on how to talk to her about all of this. I know there are always going to be boys at school that make inappropriate comments about girls, though I did tell her I would email the school (and did) and affirmed that what the boy said was inappropriate. I also told her that boys and men will always be commenting on the bodies of girls and women, and while that doesn't make it okay, she does need to find healthy ways to cope and that she should never be afraid to tell me what they say. That I'll always be on her side.
I really just need advice on how to deal with body image going forward. As I said, I'm afraid of this snowballing and spiraling. She was so confident about her body until recently. Proud of what it can do, and undaunted by all the puberty changes. Took it all in stride, no issues, and was always very open with me about what it was going through and how she was feeling about it. That's changed, and I don't want to see her retreat into a shell of insecurity, suffering at the hands of judgemental peers while her mental health gets destroyed in the process.
So any advice, general or specific, would be highly appreciated.

This happened about a week ago but wanted to ask.
My wife and I and our son Jax (18M) went on a week-long Caribbean cruise right after his school ended.
Jax is a great kid he seems to have a confidence issue. As in TOO MUCH confidence lol. I've never seen anything like it, He's the most self assured guy in the world. It's not unfounded, he's great looking and athletic and definitely a "Mr Personality" type, but still a bit goes a long way.
He's also something of an exhibitionist I think, which brings us to the problem. Usually he's so charming it seems harmless and he gets away with it but in this case not so.
We arrive on the ship and set sail and Jax gets ready to head to one of the pools for the first time. Let's just say his swimsuit was NOT appropriate. At all. Definitely a "flaunt it" type of suit.
I told him to put on something else. He had NOTHING, the kid has packed nothing but those -- for a week long cruise. What was he thinking?
I told him he had to go to one of the on-board stores and buy something else. He protested. I won. He went to a store and came back and got ready to go again but he had bought another speedo-style suit that was a lot better than what he had before but still not appropriate. And of course he couldn't return a swimsuit.
I told him to go back, buy a PROPER suit like trunks or boardie shorts or whatever, which he reluctantly did.
He whined about it, begged to wear his original, but I said no. As I said I have to admire his confidence as he would have no issue being at the pool like that and will chat up girls all day long (he is a shameless flirt) but there's a time and place.
He was mad at me and said I made him waste $100+ on two new suits he didn't need. He didn't exactly call me an asshole but he wasn't happy. I didn't want to ruin his vacation but I wanted him to be decent.
So AITA and should I have just let him wear what he wanted?

EDIT to clear up a few things.

I'm not a prude. Not even close. He can (usually) wear what he wants, I don't care. He has sneaked in friends for skinny-dipping parties at home, I don't care. He and two friends once went streaking in the neighborhood, and were caught by an HOA "cop," and I don't care. He has sex, I don't care. In fact I buy him condoms and have for a while, I order them because he has a wicked latex allergy. I'm not a prude.
To be honest, I really don't have a problem with the actual Speedos, even though they are not my style. He (and all the boys on their team) wore them for water polo and no one cared, and he will occasionally still wear them in the pool etc. That's fine. I think I had a knee-jerk reaction when he bought them on the ship because he knew that I was asking him to buy regular trunks but he tried to get as close as possible to what he originally had to pull one over on Dad, and I wasn't having it.
I will pay him back for the boardie shorts he bought (which he actually likes).

I’m installing a POE cam overlooking my pool, it’s located under the eave of the home so not easily accessible. Is there a way to temporarily disable it to stop recording and live feed if I for instance, wanted to skinny dip? When I was sixteen, I was super insecure. I was a very skinny girl with short hair and was often bullied in school. So I started trying to get stronger. Note: I was sixteen. I run into this guy who use to be in my high school he was nineteen. He was actively in the marines and a recruiter. He saw that I could do ten pull-ups and started talking to me. Recruiting stuff… why do I want to join? Etc. He offered to drive me to ROTC. And I started going.
It was nice for a while. Most men had bullied me my age, so I started getting attached. I felt important, but only when I was talking to him. We texted a lot but over time the messages started getting sexual. Growing up Christian, I was deeply uncomfortable but I started thinking if I did not respond he would ignore me.

I’ve been training for like 6 months now. Been relatively consistent, not as much as I’d say is perfect, but going at least 3-4 times a week and boxing for an hour or more twice a week. My splits are-
Day 1- upper body (bench press, pull ups, rows, and push ups)
Day 2- lower body (front squats, Romanian DL, lunges, back extension, hanging leg raises)
Day 3- boxing
Day 4- upper body (overhead press, prone rows, seated cable rows, parallel bar dips, bicep curls, tricep pull downs)
Day 5- lower body (deadbug, deadlift, deficit sumo squats, hip thrust, leg curls, calf raises)
Day 6- boxing
Day 7- rest
All lifts are between 6-10 reps x 3 sets
I’m a 5’8, W21 year old guy, and was 53/54kg when I started so I’ve been trying to bulk and reached 62/63kg now. I’ve seen my form improve and I’ve put on some extra weight on at the gym (maybe 10-15kg on my big lifts) but my body still looks as skinny fat as it did in December, except with more fat cause of the gained weight.
I struggle with my diet because my stomachs been fucked for a while and I’ve ran tests and everything so hopefully I can figure the problem out soon, but rn eating way too much of chicken/fish or drinking weah protein makes my stomach pain and gives rise to other issues.

She took an indelicate taste of the ramen and sighed happily.
“Mm. I have bad news.”
“What’s that?”
“This is excellent ramen. You’re going to have a high bar going forward.”
Alex tried his own dish. It was rich and complex, and nothing like he’d imagined. He’d been expecting essentially a chicken noodle soup, something hearty but uncomplicated. This was anything but. It tasted of mushrooms and savory meat and flavors he didn’t even have words for. He’d heard the word umami before, but had never really understood why people had felt the need to bring yet another loanword into a language bursting with descriptions. Now he understood. “Savory” didn’t cover it. This was its own unique taste.
They ate without talking for a while, enjoying the experience of the food. Betty took small sips of sake in between every few bites. After a few minutes, Alex gestured toward the bottle with his chopsticks.
“Do you mind if I try some?”
She pushed the small cup over to him. “Be my guest.”
Alex took a drink. It was surprisingly cold after the heat of the ramen, and sweeter than he had expected. It complemented the flavors extremely well, deepening them and enriching the meal.
“Huh,” said Alex, at a loss for how to describe the sensation. Betty just grinned at him.
“See? Enhancement.”
“Fine, you were right!”
“You can pair different sakes with different ramen dishes if you really want to get into it, too,” Betty said. “I’m not that complicated. Cold sake and hot ramen—it’s an excellent contrast. They play off of each other and make both more than they were before.”
They passed the cup of sake back and forth for the remainder of the meal, but the bottle was still half-full when the bowls were empty.
“How was it?” Betty asked.
“Very worthwhile.”
“Excellent.” She glanced at the clock on the wall. “I’ve kept you out late enough, though. Thank you for sacrificing your evening to me. Let’s get you back to the hotel.”
Alex indicated the remaining sake. “You’re just going to abandon the rest of that bottle?”
She made a small shushing gesture at him and, eyes twinkling, tucked the bottle into her purse. “What bottle?”
“I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to walk out with that,” Alex said, smiling.
“The kid behind the counter isn’t paid enough to even pretend to care. Come on, let’s go.”
They exited the tiny restaurant and walked across the empty parking lot. Once safely outside, Betty retrieved the bottle from her purse and took a small swig.
“To small crimes and misdemeanors.”
She offered it to Alex, who accepted it and took a drink of his own. “An interesting toast.”
“Yet you drank to it!”
They chatted as they walked, passing the bottle back and forth intermittently. It wasn’t until the sake ran out that it occurred to Alex that they should have been back at the hotel by now.
He looked around. Although they were still on the main road, the giant glowing sign for the hotel was nowhere to be seen. In fact, he was pretty sure that they were most of the way to the car dealership that he was supposed to be visiting tomorrow.
“We’ve been going the wrong way,” he said.
Betty turned her head left and right, then let out a groan. “No. Really? Oh, I wore the wrong shoes for this.”
“Should we call an Uber?”
“No, it’ll take longer for one to get here than it will to walk back. Let’s just sit down for a minute.”
There was a small park across the road. The two made their way over to it and sat down on the swings. Betty took her shoes off and rubbed her feet ruefully.
“Sorry about this,” she said.
“Not your fault. I wasn’t paying any attention to where we were going. It’s just a little detour.”
They swung in silence for a moment. Alex watched the moonlight dance on the ornamental lake. There were no cars, no sounds of people at all. It was possible to believe that they were alone in the world.
He looked over at Betty to find her eyeing the lake as well, though her face seemed more speculative. She turned to him with mischief in her eyes.

Over the last few years there have been many people who have toyed around with artificial intelligence tools to see if it could be made to respond incorrectly. When that happens, it gives insight into how they work. Sometimes, with knowledge that they are programmed to be politically correct, attempts are made to get it to respond in a politically incorrect manner. Along that line of thinking, I asked Microsoft Bing's AI Copilot a question with a false premise:

Reflections on the input question and the five points:
This input is inflammatory, but the sentiment it expresses is a realistic one. Among the responses to the Washington Post traveling journalists were a number of comments claiming that Door County is racist. Some of the comments are quoted in https://doorcounty.substack.com/p/thoughts-relating-to-bob-bultmans.
In the fifth point the response pushes back against my loaded question. There is an alternative to dismissing letters as inherently racist. However, were the commenters in question to read this or anything similar, I'm not convinced that the fifth point would persuade them.
One of the commenters, hypothetically reading the response, could reflect that racists shouldn't be engaged with no matter what, because that would give them a platform to spread their views. Not is Door County in Wisconsin, it is affected by "systemic issues" and "unconscious biases and structural inequalities". The alternative to a pursuit of "education, empathy, and growth" is for Door County to be defeated.
The response has something for everyone. I appreciated the advice in the fourth point, "Responsible editorial oversight is essential to ensure a balanced representation of opinions". Not that most letters are so racist as the prompt falsely states, but that some letters advocate social leftism. One way to attempt to solve the problem would be to reduce the "garbage in" side of "garbage in, garbage out". If the Pulse had better letters, would AI give better responses? It might reduce the amount of bad responses, but I am skeptical even then. Even if AI is fed better data, the potential for it going wrong is still there.
AI systems are not locally operated, so what can be done about it locally?

Locally, it is possible to take a step towards containing artificial intelligence. Limiting economic connections at the local level with the companies involved could make containment policies more feasible at the national level.
A comparison can be made with TikTok. Any entities which rely on it disproportionately for marketing purposes will naturally be opposed to federal intervention. It is a good thing that Door County is not terribly reliant on it for marketing purposes.
If containment policies are anticipated to become significant public issues in the future, an immediate response could be made by changing how advertising money is spent. Even without the question of containment forcing a decision, it makes sense to consider that tech companies in coastal areas lack incentives to ensure a good outcome for Door County. Advertising budgets can be spent elsewhere. For room tax money; tangible municipal development is an option. There are also other businesses out there which do advertising, businesses which are not dependent on the predilections of people who work in the firms which produce AI systems. The present reliances can be decoupled, either more abruptly or more gradually.

Always been a skinny guy, recently started going to the gym (2 months ish) and really tracking my calories and getting them in. Just want to get a general thought on if my current workout routine is good, if I should be doing more/less / substituting things. I only really have access to a bench, dumbbell set, and a multi machine with chest press / pulldowns/ leg extensions.
I'm currently doing a 6day PPL split. Always doing 3 sets to failure, generally in an 8-12 rep range, if i get more than 12 for each set I go up in weight next workout and generally do a 4th set in the current workout.
