Patterns of Gender-Based Violence in Conflict-Affected Ukraine: A Descriptive Analysis of Internally Displaced and Local Women Receiving Psychosocial Services

Arbitrary Displacement Is a Structural Rot that Hegemonizes Economic Abuse and with it Economic Collapse
Checkpoints for the displaced showed the most violence, literally predating on women when they were the most vulnerable by armed men.
Almost 8% of violent incidents against displaced women occurred at checkpoints or at reception centers for internally displaced persons (IDP) and 20% were perpetrated by armed men.
Majority of Ukrainian female respondents described their household economic situation as bad or very bad (59%)
A survey of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine found that a majority of respondents described their household economic situation as bad or very bad (59%), and only 22% held regular employment (Roberts et al., 2017).
Women fleeing violence are most likely to be exposed to sexually violent men exactly at the moments they were most expecting protection. This suggests a pattern of men who watch for the female victims of their enemies, and then violate them when they come to them, simply out of nationalist/ethnicist hate crime, with no care about their status as a victim.
Meta-analytic findings estimate a 21% prevalence of sexual violence among female refugees and IDPs (Vu et al., 2014).
A 2014 national survey conducted shortly after the start of the conflict found that 19% of 15–49 year old women had experienced violence since the age of 15 compared to 17% in 2007 (Martsenyuk et al., 2014).
Displaced women were more likely to experience sexual violence
Furthermore, we hypothesized that among GBV survivors: 1) proportionally more violent acts against displaced women would be non-domestic and associated with combat operations (i.e., demobilized and active governmental and non-governmental soldiers); 2) displaced women would be more likely to experience sexual violence than local women; and 3) patterns of reporting and referrals would differ depending on a woman’s residency status.
UN Women’s Framework for emergency response and preparedness (UN Women, 2013) was used
The adaptation process followed the recommendations of the GBV-IMS Rollout Guidelines (UNFPA, n.d.) and the UN Women’s Framework for emergency response and preparedness (UN Women, 2013), and entailed piloting the tool with several mobile teams and incorporating the feedback from the field.
Definition of internally displaced person
Ukrainian law defines an internally displaced person as “a citizen of Ukraine, a foreigner or a stateless person who is in the territory of Ukraine legally and has the right to reside permanently in Ukraine, and who was forced to leave his place of residence due to armed conflict, temporary occupation, widespread violence, human rights violations or emergencies of natural or man-made nature” (On Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Internally Displaced Persons, 2014).
Forced marriage with economic abuse followed with rape and sexual assault
Determination of GBV type was made by mobile team members using the GBV-IMS classification tool (UNFPA et al., 2011). The form instructs providers to select only one GBV type per case based on a series of questions asked in a specific order, as follows: 1) rape (if any type of penetration occurred); 2) sexual assault (if there was unwanted sexual contact); 3) physical assault (if there was physical battery); 4) forced marriage; 5) economic violence (in cases of denial of resources, opportunities, or services); 6) psychological or emotional abuse (if the incident involved insults, name-calling, and humiliation); and 7) no GBV (if none of the above). If, for example, a woman reported experiencing unwanted sexual contact, the provider would classify the case as “sexual assault” and continue to the following section.
One in five women who experienced violence were unemployed, showing these violent perpetrators may keep their victims from employment or sabotage their employment purposefully to put them in harm’s way.
More than one in five (21.6%) women who experienced violence were unemployed, with no differences between the groups. Overall, slightly less than one-third (30.7%) of the women engaged in unpaid labor such as elder and childcare, with significantly higher proportions among local women. Proportionally more displaced women had a professional occupation (24.6% vs. 20.0%, p<0.001).
78.3% of women reported that a man raped them. Half of the women reported psychologically abuse in addition, showing many rapists are psychologically abusive before and after as a tell-tale sign.
More than three-quarters (78.3%) of women reported that a man was the perpetrator. In nearly half of the cases, the perpetrator was an intimate partner (49.5%); and in roughly one in five (21.8%) a family member. Psychological abuse (48.4%) was reported by almost half of the women (See Table 2).
Compared to local women, proportionally more displaced women reported an incident of rape or sexual abuse (3.1% vs. 2.1%, p<0.001) or economic abuse (23.4% vs. 14.4%, p<0.001).
Gender based violence affects one million women annually in Ukraine
GBV is a grave human rights violation that affects an estimated one million women annually in Ukraine (Barrett et al., 2012). Social disruption and frail economic conditions in humanitarian settings further aggravate women’s vulnerability to violence, particularly for displaced women (Stark & Ager, 2011; Stark et al., 2017). This analysis supports our primary hypothesis that the experience of violence differs by survivors’ residency status. Specifically, we found differences in terms of relationship to the perpetrator, type of violence experienced and access to care between local and displaced women.
Checkpoints, or borderlines, nebulous zones of power shifts were huge points of violence to Ukrainian women, showing power shifts are often signaled by violence, especially to the most vulnerable.
Notably, 20.0% of displaced women in our sample experienced violence at the hands of armed men compared to 5.3% of local women. We also found that checkpoints between government-controlled and non-government–controlled areas and IDP reception centers posed a particular risk for displaced women in our study.
38% more displaced women reported experiencing sexual violence than local women, meaning people were actively preying on people who were displaced, not protecting them. This shows Ukrainian women are at huge risk of opportunistic rape by the very men pretending to be safe.
Whereas sexual violence was the least common type of reported violence, 38% more displaced women reported experiencing sexual violence than local women.
Ukrainian women come from a long history of corrupt police, so they did not report to the police because the police do not work for them and never have. That is not their fault; it is their country and area’s fault.
Studies in conflict-affected Ukraine found that a majority of survivors were unwilling to report GBV incidents to the police, particularly among internally displaced women (UCSR, 2018).
Because of this violence around the very people that were supposed to protect them, Ukrainian women are less likely to file a police report. Displaced women were even more unlikely. It is an intelligent decision to not have a faith that has been factually and with evidence violated repeatedly.
we found that displaced women were less than half as likely than local women to have filed a police report.
Younger women seek gender based violence services more than older women, showing Ukrainian women are often being targeted for their fertility and not receiving justice can help them remain to be seen as a fertility commodity instead of a human being, making European countries very wary of the nation seeing how their women are treated. Women's rights feature largely in European economic inclusion.
For example, among GBV survivors in Ukraine, younger women seek services for GBV more often than older women (41% of those aged 15–29 vs. 26% those aged 40–49) (Martsenyuk et al., 2014). Therefore, this analysis is not representative of all women experiencing violence.
Domestic violence within the ranks of the warring country increased during war for Ukrainian women, instead of coming together in solidarity and mutual support
Studies in complex emergency settings have found stigma among GBV survivors, normalization of domestic violence during times of conflict, unwillingness to report men living in the home for fear of forced military recruitment, and reluctance to involve law enforcement as major reporting barriers, especially among displaced women survivors of violence (Ager et al., 2018; Stark & Ager, 2011).

2024.05.14 06:12 Sad_Grape_7223 Sad my group completely hated an NPC and not sure how to navigate them back to the story

Mostly just need to vent.
So my table has one large mission as the main arc, but currently focused on an integral smaller mission within the larger mission. Main mission cannot be completed without this second one.
My table got a bit derailed tonight when a PC forgot about the mini mission (despite that being the whole previous hour….a bio break and short rest for for the in game characters made them whoosh forget that & they showed up at our next location super aggro and demanding my npc lead them to character needed for the main mission.
I tried to get them back on track, mentioning that that character wasn’t there. Why were they at this building (hint hint) and one poor PC tried to speak up but no one was listening.
I knew my npc had a hook to make him instant friends with a PC, so when they finally asked about a character involved with the mini mission I started my 3 sentence paragraph to give needed information. I wasn’t 6 words into my statement & this PC interrupted me and shoved my npc and yelled at him for being sexist (he was calling the 3rd character a rude teachers pet, which is probably the nicest adjectives you could use for this character) I pivoted and tried to have my npc mention the reason they were there and this 3rd character being involved…nope a 2nd pc PICKS UP MY NPC AND STARTED THREATENING THEM IN THEIR OWN HOME
I had to stop the table and remind them everyone was a good aligned character. They just walked into someone’s home, were welcomed nicely, the npc introduced themselves but they didn’t introduce themselves, they started demanding stuff and the got rightful defensive and now he’s being attacked….well my 2 PCs said I made a very unlikable npc and said they wouldn’t change anything.
Okay. Who am I to show horn them into a path. They then guns blazing go into the room with the actual bad guy…no planning or plan…per my module she’s to instantly cast fireball. I stopped the session before she cast anything. I ran the damage and the two PCs closest if they didn’t pass their saving throw would be on death saves…..I don’t want to do that, but I am mad they are being so aggressive.
This is only session 2 and they weren’t this aggressive the first session. Our previous campaign I wasn’t the DM and this group was really murder hobo-y but everyone was on board (it was Shrahd) and the setting more lent itself to that. But even then our DM then would complain we didn’t ask questions or talk to NPCs or try anything other than hit first and go oops we needed that person later.
Frustratingly the main aggro PC is our former DM.
I have talked to him already. He apologized. And promised to let me finish speaking when characters are talking. Especially when it’s obvious I’m reading something prepared (probably important if I wrote it down)…but his advice was to have us “reset” back to when they came inside, but I don’t want to do that.
As sorta frustrated as I am, that’s part of dnd. Having your characters go their path. I’m just not sure how to get them back on track. I want to punish them for going so fast into this, but I know if attack them with this 3rd character then they’ll attack back and probably not hold back and leave the campaign if their character died start of session 3. (I’ve invested $300 into this module and really want to see atleast some of it through) I did metagame warn them that they’re level 3 and they need to start thinking about that before they go attacking everyone they meet. (The npc they shoved and nearly fought was a level 13 wizard…they weren’t going to win that fight).
Guess I’m also frustrated that I’m the only female in the group and they attributed alot of negative female connotations to the one sentence my npc said (called him catty, b**chy, rude, annoying, petty) when they knew the person they were meeting was a part of a known evil organization. But no how dare my nice, welcoming npc not like the evil organization character….when I asked that in the session debrief I was told it was “how I presented him” with my one sentence…I think next time I would stop them and say “let me finish what he was saying before you take that action” but I’m not sure that would have changed anything.
Just sad that I don’t think this group is the right group for this campaign and I’m so invested in the story.

2024.05.14 05:43 Right_Treat691 Trump Says He’d Deport ‘Anti-American’ Protesters in Bizarre Rally Speech

The former president also praised the "late, great" (fictional) serial killer Hannibal Lecter during his rally in Wildwood, New Jersey
While speaking about Israel’s war in Gaza during a campaign rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Saturday, Trump criticized the pro-Palestine protests on American college campuses, saying, “When I’m president, we will not allow colleges to be taken over by violent radicals.”
Trump also alleged the campus protesters are being funded by President Joe Biden’s political donors, echoing a Politico story that Rolling Stone debunked. He has previously compared the campus protesters at Columbia University to the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, although he distinguishes the former as destructive and damaging and the latter group as “unbelievable patriots.”

2024.05.14 04:32 wymbt [iOS App Store] [2010-2013] [a game where you controlled a tiny little glass ball and moved it through obstacles to the end to pass the level]

Ok yall help me. I cannot find this game, no one can even tell me they remember it. PLEASE HELP ME BRO. Ok so it was like a game where you control a tiny crystal ball, or a shiny little glass ball.
The first level started in a cave, you'd move the ball forward and it would enter a little gold or metal elevator that resembled a lamp-like structure.
After the elevator would take you up you'd begin the level, now I barely remember but something specific I remember from this particular level is one of the obstacles was a pathway that went from thick to thin like a tight rope and you'd have to balance.
This game also had obstacles and I think at one point coins? But in later levels? I honestly cannot remember as I was 5/6 years old in 2011. And no it's not the recent game where you control a ball into a hole or through a maze. PLEASE HELP YALL

2024.05.14 04:24 NotTomPettysGirl Ballots in Anchorage mayoral runoff roll in above levels seen in April, with thousands more anticipated on election day

Ballots in Anchorage mayoral runoff roll in above levels seen in April, with thousands more anticipated on election day
Anchorage voters have until Tuesday at 8 p.m. to cast ballots in the mayoral runoff race between incumbent Mayor Dave Bronson and challenger Suzanne LaFrance, former chair of the Assembly.
The candidates emerged as the top-two vote-getters in the April 2 contest, advancing to a head-to-head runoff that has played out the last several weeks.
The Bronson and LaFrance campaigns both spent the weekend door-knocking in neighborhoods across the municipality, and are continuing to campaign with sign-waving and phone-banking efforts to get out the vote as the deadline to return ballots closes in.
Early data shows that voter turnout is on pace with other recent mayoral elections.
As of Friday, the city’s election center had already received and sorted a total of 41,125 ballots. On Monday, election staff were working to process thousands more ballots that voters had returned by mail, in drop boxes and at vote centers over the weekend.
As of 1 p.m. Monday, election staff had sorted an additional 5,700 ballots, and thousands more sat in large black duffel bags awaiting sorting.
It’s likely between 10,000 and 15,000 were returned this weekend, according to Acting Election Administrator William Northrop.
“I’m optimistic that turnout is high,” Northrop said. “Right now we are outpacing the regular election.”
About 4,550 more ballots had been returned by Friday than on the Friday before the April regular election. Ultimately 72,250 ballots were cast in that election.
The 2021 runoff between Bronson and then-Assembly member Forrest Dunbar saw record-high turnout for a mayoral contest, with 90,816 ballots cast in a race Bronson won by 1,193 votes. In the 2015 runoff won by Ethan Berkowitz over then-Assembly member Amy Demboski, 70,650 residents voted.
Election staff are anticipating the biggest wave of voting on Tuesday, the final day to vote.
“If it’s anything like the 2021 runoff, we are going to be looking at 20,000 (ballots) for election night alone,” Northrop said.
Northrop said that Tuesday evening’s preliminary election results will likely include all ballots received at the election center through Monday, and possibly some gathered by election workers from drop boxes and vote centers early Tuesday.
That means a large enough share of the ballot totals will likely be processed in those preliminary results to give campaigns and officials a solid picture of which candidate is ahead, unless it’s a thin margin of a few thousand votes or less separating them. As ballots continue to be received and tallied in the days after Tuesday, margins typically tick up and down slightly, but they are rarely upended. However, if the results are close — as was the case in the 2021 election between Bronson and Dunbar — it is possible for a candidate who is slightly behind in the initial count to edge into the lead.
Neither campaign is likely to declare victory based on Tuesday night’s preliminary results.
Election staff will publish the first preliminary election results after 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Then this week starting Wednesday, they will post updated results daily by about 6:30 p.m. as staff continue to process the ballots cast on Tuesday and as more arrive by mail.
Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by 8 p.m. Tuesday in order to count. Anyone who is mailing their ballot on Monday or Tuesday should go inside the post office and ask a postal worker to hand cancel, or hand stamp, their ballot envelope, Northrop said.
Voters using drop boxes must place their ballot into a drop box by 8 p.m., he said.
In the April election, “we did have a lot of voters who waited to the last minute and also after the election to get us their ballot. Unfortunately, those don’t count. We need them postmarked by election night,” Northrop said.
Also, anyone casting a ballot in person at a vote center late Tuesday needs to be in line by 8 p.m. in order to vote, he said.
Anchorage’s three vote centers are located downtown at City Hall, in Midtown at the Loussac Library, and in Eagle River at the Eagle River Town Center. Vote centers open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and will close at 8 p.m.
Registered voters who did not receive a ballot in the mail or whose ballot was lost, damaged or stolen can go to a vote center to get a replacement ballot.
The runoff election results won’t be official until they are certified by the Anchorage Assembly. Certification is scheduled for May 31, according to the city’s election calendar.
Whoever is elected will officially begin the three-year term as mayor on July 1.

2024.05.14 04:17 Typical_Dweller [wealth & costs] Converting 4th ed. GURPS $ to 3rd ed. world $

So, as far as I can tell, one of the edition changes was universalizing and harmonizing wealth and costs across all campaign worlds. Tech level appears to make some difference for more advanced versions of the same item (TL 5 frame backpack vs. TL 8 one). I think Ultra-Tech also uses some tech level upgrade costs as well. But basically, a canteen costs the same whether you're in 2024 or 1804 because the cost represents an abstract value detached from historical/real-world prices and inflation/deflation. Am I correct so far?
This works well enough so long as there is a listed 4th ed. GURPS Bucks price for any given equipment. But if you want to assign a GURPS $ value to something that's not in the books, that gets tricky.
I'm not going to address converting contemporary, real world prices into GURPS Bucks, since that is its own subject probably.
What I'm looking at right now is taking prices for items from 3rd ed. world books (particularly historical books, though the process should be the same for other settings) and converting them into GURPS $.
So, Old West 2nd edition for GURPS 3rd ed: There's a price list for goods that aren't in High-Tech 4th, or Low-tech 4th, or Basic Set. Stuff like a guitar, or breakfast at a diner. Some of these you can Google, and it seems like the Old West book got it right for the most part (25 American cents for breakfast in the 1870s). So we have good, reliable, balanced prices.
How I'm trying to approach conversion so far: I'm thinking take Old West standard wealth ($200) and compare it to standard TL 5 wealth from 4th ed. Basic Set ($5000) to come up with a price multipliedivisor (x25).
This seems to work with the price of breakfast. Basic Set says a breakfast should be 1% of cost of living. If we assume Social Status 0, that gives us $600 cost of living, or 6 GURPS Bucks for breakfast. The price of 25 cents from Old West conflicts with this. However, if we apply the divisor I got from the Standard Wealth comparison (/25), 6 GURPS Bucks becomes 24 Old West cents. Not bad, so far.
The same process seems to convert prices into each others' general ballparks or neighborhoods, whichever figure of speech you prefer. A TL 5 canteen from High-Tech costs 10 GURPS Bucks. Divided by 25, that gets us 40 Old West cents. Looking at the Old West book, that is pretty close to the listed price of 50 cents.
Sometimes the conversion is more off. Basic TL 5 boots from High-Tech are 80 GURPS Bucks. Divided by 25 that's $3.20. Old West book lists boots as $5.00. So it's almost correct, but not quite.
Is there a better way to go about doing this? I was thinking of basing the multipliedivisor off of Basic Set cost of living vs. world book cost of living instead.

2024.05.14 04:08 Keratomeni Players Found A Teleporter To Strahd's Castle and Want To Go!

TLDR: The players have figured out that Vasili Von Holtz is Strahd and now they went into his house in Vallaki and found a hidden teleportation circle and they want to use it to see where it goes, which Strahd uses to go to and from Castle Ravenloft (K44. Strahd’s closet).
I do not know how I should plan for this, or even WHAT to plan for this. How should Strahd react to them just popping up inside his castle without an invitation. They are only lvl 6 and are now the new ambassadors of Villaki after saving it from Fiona Wachter's evil tyranny. I am mostly using 3rd party content from DM Andy, Pyram King and High Rollers D&D's version of Curse of Strahd, so it is heavily heavily modified so that a player who's already played the base module wouldn't know what to expect.
Strahd has been scrying on the party since they entered Barovia and he currently has Ireena under his spell and has her madly in love with him (Vasili). Strahd knows the party killed Fiona Wachter, not sure how I want him to react to that as well. In my game, he's kind of a loose cannon. The party had 3 days to return "Tatyana" to him when they first entered the village of Barovia, which they persuaded the Vistani they would escort Ireena there themselves, but ended up taking her to Vallaki to hide. Strahd threatened to send in hordes of devils to kill every man woman and child in the village of Barovia if she was not brought to him in 3 days time.
Oh also, Asmodeus is in the background trying to make Villaki into his own personal little Nexxus and wants Strahd in the Nine Hells, so he sort of used Fiona Wachter as a mouth piece and made a deal with one of the players to mark (cut) Fiona's hand with a hellfire weapon Asmodeus gave him, Return's Strahd's Soul to him, and then kill Strahd with the Hellfire weapon. (I got this idea from High Rollers DnD's CoS campaign)!
Any help or new ideas on how to bring everything all together would be greatly appreciated! My biggest concern is what will Strahd do/say when the party teleports to his castle.

2024.05.14 03:59 Amonyi7 I’m starting in a few days and I have too many interesting characters I want to play, help me narrow it down to one!

These all interest me, but I wanted the communities thoughts on what sounds most fun to them, help fleshing the character out, and what would be easy to roleplay. (Sometimes I have an interesting idea, but actually roleplaying it and showing the personality is harder). I’m still newish to actually playing. I’m playing with 6 total players (oof) and i dont know them well. I haven't really received any info about the campaign yet. If your first session starts in 3 days, don’t read this!!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Character 1: Stitch
Class: Moon Druid
Race: Changeling
The character is pretty much Stitch. The idea is to have another character already have a relationship with mine, having just picked me up and thinking im a dog. And he’ll only say a few words at first, but will progressively get better at speaking. This characters bites his toes and rolls around to move around, will be chewing on his own hand, and gain a strong sense of family. He also will be able to change into other characters like, a butler he saw once, who will use vocab like stitch, but talk formally. His moon druid shapes will have the same blue aberration coloring as him.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Character 2: Fire Girl
Class: Wildfire druid
Race: Idk
This character is inspired by Megumin from Konosuba (She shouts “explosion!” and constantly wants to fireball everything, and then falls asleep). I see her holding hands with her pet fire spirit. Wanting to burn everything. Maybe the fire spirit can be like calcifer and talks. And maybe has a “before creation there must be destruction” them going on.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Character 3A: Prodigy Chronurgist girl
Class: Chronurgist Wizard
Race: Harengon
A 12 year old sassy prodigy girl who is shaping the fields of chronurgy magic. Uses Gen Z language. Thinks shes smartebetter than everyone, besides some of the people she looks up to at the academy. “Ugh whatever”. Shes adventuring because she needs field experience for her internship.
Hides her bunny ears under a red hood (like red riding hood, shes kind of fairy tale coded (like alice and the white rabbit too)) because harengons are not a respected race for magic and shes embarrassed.
Her parents are literally two rabbits.
Alternative personality is that shes super hyper and brimming with energy, goes crazy if she gets any sugar.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Character 3B: Old Grandma Chronurgist Wizard
Class: Chronurgist Wizard
Race: Harengon
Or, as opposed to the prodigy girl, this character is an old grandma harengon who’s still got it. She has kids that are rabbits. Jumps around. “When you get to be this old you understand time differently”. Maybe she accidentally ventured into the fey wild as a kid. Dated a fairy prince once. Has a lot of wild stories your grandma sometimes drops on you.
I love this idea, but idk i might get tired of roleplaying an old person at some point
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Character 4: Demon forced to be good
Class: Creation Bard
Race: Tiefling? Fallen Aasamir? Undecided
This character is some powerful old demon lord who is being punished for some reason, and that punishment is stripping him of his powers and forcing him to do good on earth. Maybe he just has to do more good than evil. But he hates that and wants to be evil so bad, but this is the reason he wont… usually. (Im aware of the problems of playing an evil character, or being antagonistic, so this reason should keep him in check i think!) Being good slowly brings his powers back, and he might just learn to not be so evil.
The creation ability is (like gilgamesh from fate) that he obtained so many things over the years, that he can just summon those items from his vault in hell.
He has a purr in his voice.
Bardic inspiration could be flavored as “i suppose i’ll lend you a fraction of my power” snaps
Or “here ill help you” *snaps* “there! Good deed done”
Dramatic character.
Thanks for reading!

2024.05.14 03:29 the_real_joelyroely First campaign questions

I'm making a start with Google Search and I've been doing a lot of reading over the last couple of weeks. I have examples to look at and I've got templates to make use of.
But I wanted to ask real people (online lol) a few questions:
I've got my CPA in mind, plus daily spend. Is there anything else I should be calculating (and how to calculate it) for set up?
The campaign I'll be running is only 6 weeks max. Unfortunately it's not an always-on situation.
I'm planning to start with max clicks for 2 weeks, and then max conversions for the remainder of the campaign.
Thanks in advance ☺️

2024.05.14 03:19 goodgamingair799 Switching off of fighter to maintain Rest Parity in party

I don’t know if anyone else has ever dealt with a problem like this, but the group (6 players) I play with consists of mostly long rest characters aside from me (rune knight fighter) and the monk. Because so few of the party benefits from them and because of the fast paced nature of the campaign, we’ve only ever taken one or two short rests over its course. As for long rests, we automatically get them after leveling up.
At lower levels this didn’t bother me so much, but at 7th level after seeing the paladin dump 3 smites (2 divine plus one spell) into the boss, I’ve been noticing how weak I’ve been feeling in comparison to the rest of the party because we tend to run one or two fights per long rest with no short rests in between.
To fix this (or circumvent it), I decided to retire my current character and make a wizard so that I have access to the same amount of my classes power budget as the rest of the party.
On one hand I’m glad I get to play what feels like a full class now, but I feel bad that I left the monk as the sole short rester, though I’ve never heard her complain about it.
Should I have done anything differently?

2024.05.14 02:46 losspider What are some good ways to use a magic user possessed by a ghost as a villain for a party of 3 level 5/6 players?

Hey all,
I've got a group coming to the end of LMoP, and everyone's had a fine time. Partway through the campaign I had the local healemagic user possessed by a ghost (well, a banshee that I decided could possess people), last seen wandering off into the mountains. I think that if they decide to follow that plot hook it could make for a fun little follow up adventure with some spooky activities in the mountains. By that point, I expect them to be level 5 or 6.
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for either a stock monster that could fill this role effectively, or methods that make sense to beef up the Ghost/Banshee statblocks. My initial thoughts were to give it some more spells to reflect it gaining power by possessing this individual, or the classic "dump a bunch of low level monsters in to help out the action economy".
Thanks!

2024.05.14 02:41 Savings_Ad_2297 39 [M4R] I am the droid you’re looking for if you’re looking for an awesome new best friend!

Hey all! This is a bit weird for me being almost 40 and looking for friends. But here I am anyways lol. Mainly looking for someone to message throughout the day and get to know. Maybe game with if we have that in common. I do work from home so there’s no one to really talk to during the day.
I’m married and have 2 kids, a 6 month old son and a 9 year old daughter. I’m into basic nerdy things. Gaming, star wars, super heroes, DnD, etc. Also trading card games like Disney Lorcana and Star Wars Unlimited.
I watch a ton of Critical Role stuff especially Campaign 3! Currently on episode 74, so if you watch too, let me know! Also like to watch Battle of the Brands on YouTube.
I’m also into movies and tv, some sports, pro wrestling. Collecting action figures and retro games is one of hobbies as well. Anything 80s/90s nostalgia i absolutely love so if you want to talk childhood and growing up back then, i’m down! I miss the good old days where we went to arcades and italian sunday dinners at the grandparents and where the world just wasn’t as nutso as it is today lol.
My kids are everything to me and I do love talking about them. Love being silly with them and spending time with them (when they aren’t driving me crazy 🤪 lol)..I would prefer you be around my age and have kids as well just so we have that stuff in common off the bat! I’m socially awkward most times but very easy to get along with. I’m definitely considered an introvert. But once you get to know me I break out of that awkward shell. I do like to use sarcasm, and mostly like to try and make people laugh because a world without laughter would just be horrible.
Alright i’ll shut up now but I’d like to think i’m an awesome person to get to know and hopefully there’s more you’d like to know so feel free to DM me! (I looove using GIFs so if you message me, open up with a funny one! Especially since then i’ll know you actually read this 😂)
