This subreddit was formed in late 2013 to document World War I, day by day as it developed. It covers social, political, military and cultural developments in combatant countries and noncombatants alike. Its particular emphasis is on pointing out the most striking similarities and differences from the problems humanity faces today.

In this community we will highlight one city, of less than 100k people, a day that would not typically be discussed. We would like to here from inhabitants or visitors about the culture, economy, and politics of said city. 2024.05.14 23:20 B4K5c7N Has social media kind of warped your perceptions of money?

Let me preface this by saying I have almost always been in VHCOL, so I understand that it’s more expensive to keep up in a HCOL area. That being said, I feel like social media has totally warped my sense of money and I am sure I am not the only one. It seems like every other person on here makes 200k by mid to late 20s, 300k or 400k by early 30s, and I have seen countless people who claim to be making seven figures a year. Do I have jealousy for those people? Absolutely not. I want to do whatever I can do to increase my salary.
However, it’s very anxiety inducing seeing so many high income posters lament that XYZ is not enough money. Whether that is $100k is not enough for a single person and akin to poverty, or that anything under $500k a year is not enough to raise a family, or $400k is not enough to buy a home. I’ve seen many seven figure posters say they do not feel financially comfortable. As a result, I have started viewing these high numbers as “not that much”.
In real life, the people I know making these figures are comfortable in VHCOL. But on social media, these numbers are not enough.
Only 5% of the country makes $200k individually. Less than 1% makes seven figures (despite Reddit saying seven figs is standard for dual income professionals). So if high earners cannot swinging it, how is the rest of the population supposed to manage?
I probably need to take a break from Reddit, but I’m sure I am not the only one feeling the trickle down anxiety from scrolling. There are also the increased expectations of the middle class these days that used to be more upper class lifestyles (ie private schooling, multiple vacations a year, living in the most expensive zip code, etc).

2024.05.14 23:14 NightDwellerss Collecting?

I'm trying to figure out what I want to start collecting. I'm thinking on starting with the cheap stuff. My goal is to get to 300mil by the end of the summer in the bank so I can get 100k interest a day. I got my old account back but I hadn't done anything with it. So it'll be 18 this year. I'm playing food club to make $$$ but beyond that I've just been doing dailies and playing solitaire because I'm on mobile and most games aren't mobile friendly.

2024.05.14 22:56 Temporary_Nebula3712 Joining the Air Force Reserves for the training to get a good full-time job?

Pre-emptive TL;DR: Is joining the Air Force Reserves with the primary purpose of receiving tech school training that will land me a good full-time job a viable strategy, and if so, which AFSC's would be the best choices for me to achieve this goal?
I'm 36 years old, married, no kids, in the Atlanta, GA area.
I've been a cop for the last 12 years. I quit a few months ago because almost every time someone else quit or was fired, I was given their job to do in addition to my own, and I was on-call 24/7 and receiving an average of 19 calls per week, mostly during the middle of the night (for no pay)... I was covering 4 full-time different job roles at the time I quit. I covered a minimum of at least two separate full-time jobs my entire last year at that department.
I haven't been able to find a decent job since I quit. I'm making some money doing remote part-time work, but it's not enough, and I'm honestly extremely bored not having enough to do day-to-day. I've been a damn good house husband and my yard and property look great, but I need to get out of this house more often. I made almost $100k last year, and I'm routinely getting rejected for jobs even at $50k or lower. I have extensive experience leading and managing people and units, but it doesn't seem to matter since I don't have any private sector experience. I really don't want to return to law enforcement at all, because my experience, training, and skillset prevent me from being able to stay where I actually enjoy policing, which is patrolling on the streets. I'm not originally from the Atlanta area - I grew up 2 hours from here. I can get a job easily back in my hometown from all the connections I made over the years, but that's too far to commute and it would be financially irresponsible to sell my house here and buy a new one there due to the interest rate climb and all the remodeling I've done in my current home.
I'm considering the Air Force Reserves because 1. I literally have nothing else going on and could easily accommodate the time away at basic training and tech school and 2. I'm hoping if I choose the right AFSC that after tech school I could get hired for a full-time job based on the training from the tech school for that AFSC. I'm aware that there are also full-time roles for Air Force Reserves, but I'm assuming those are difficult to get, especially for someone without prior active-duty service. 3. I want to stay in my house in the Atlanta area for the long term, but I can't sit around applying to infinite jobs for an indefinite period of time. Being away for basic training and tech school is fine, as long as I'm not moving away for good.
My wife is on board with this idea, so there wouldn't be any conflict there. I'm in good shape and health, and have always considered the annual police PT to be a joke, so there are no issues there. I'd love to go active-duty if I hadn't bought a house here 2 years ago. My wife works remotely, so it would be feasible, but the biggest appeal that joining the Reserves offers is the fact that we could stay in our current house instead of moving every few years. We have discussed the possibility of me being activated and deployed, and that's something we can handle if it comes to it, but that's much better than the guaranteed moves that going active-duty would require. If I do join the Reserves, I would be signing up with every intention of doing at least 20 years. I do have a 4-year degree in Education, but from what I've read so far, getting a commissioned officer spot as a civilian seems highly unlikely, especially since I don't have any degree, let alone an advanced degree, in any of the appropriate fields, so I'm only looking at enlisted AFSC's.
Based on everyone's experience, do y'all think that I could use Air Force Reserves tech school to get a decent full-time job?
If so, what AFSC would you recommend as the best path toward a good job? I don't even care what I do at this point, I just want to work, preferably in a career field where I can start at $50k or more with room to grow towards $75-90k in the next five years. I'm interested in cyber security, and being close to the airport in Atlanta I feel like something regarding aircraft repair and maintenance might make sense for me to find a quick job, but I truly just want a new career and don't care what it is. I'm hoping some of you have enough experience with yourselves, friends, or people in your units to provide some insight on which AFSC choices yield the best results on the job market.
I'm considering the following AFSC's:
2T2X1 - Air Transportation - Could potentially land me a job at an airport.
1P0X1 - Aircrew Flight Equipment - Could potentially land me a job at an airport.
2T3X7 - Fleet Management - Could potentially help land me a job with a shipping or trucking company.
2T1X1 - Ground Transportation - Could potentially help land me a warehouse or mechanic job.
6C0X1 - Contracting - Could potentially help land me a job with a construction company.
3E5X1 - Engineering - Could potentially help land me a job with a construction or surveying company.
6F0X1 - Financial Management and Comptroller - Could potentially land me a job in HR for a number of companies or as an auditor or in a financing company.
3F0X1 - Personnel - Could potentially land me a job in HR.
1D7X1 - Cyber Security - Could potentially land me a job in Cyber Security or IT Helpdesk.
1B4X1 - Cyber Warfare Operations - Could potentially land me a job in Cyber Security or IT Helpdesk.
1N4X1 - Cyber Intelligence Analyst - Could potentially land me a job in Cyber Security or IT Helpdesk.
9S100 - Scientific Applications Specialist - Could potentially land me a job in a federal or state crime lab (I have extensive experience in forensic evidence collection and analysis from my law enforcement career, too, but mostly on-the-job training)
3E0X2 - Electrical Power Production - Could potentially land me a job as an electrician.
3E0X1 - Electrical Systems - Could potentially land me a job as an electrician.
3E1X1 - Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration - Could potentially land me a job in HVAC.
3E2X1 - Pavements and Construction Equipment - Could potentially land me a job with a construction or paving company.
3E3X1 - Structural - Could potentially land me a job with a construction company.
2T3X1 - Mission Generation Vehicular Equipment Maintenance - Could potentially land me a job as a mechanic.
2T3X7 - Vehicle Management - Could potentially land me a job as a mechanic.
2A6X6 - Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A6X4 - Aircraft Fuel Systems - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A6X5 - Aircraft Hydraulic Systems - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A3X3 - Tactical Aircraft Maintenance - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A7X1 - Aircraft Metals Technology - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A7X3 - Aircraft Structural Maintenance - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A7X2 - Nondestructive Inspection - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
1C7X1 - Airfield Management - Could potentially land me a job at an airport.
4V0X1 - Optometry - Could potentially land me a job at an optometry office.
4P0X1 - Pharmacy Technician - Could potentially land me a job at a pharmacy.
5J0X1 - Paralegal - Could potentially land me a job at a law firm.
Clearly, I'm not being picky here. Just to reiterate, I would be staying in the Reserves for 20 years unless circumstances dictated otherwise. I'm more than happy to put in the monthly/annual training in addition to a full-time job. I'm aware that I'd likely be far older than most or all of the others in basic training and that I'd be measured by expectations geared towards me being a decade or more younger than I actually am. My parents talked me out of the military twice (after high school and after college), so I've always been interested. I've served my local communities for over a decade, and now I'm looking to serve my country while also leveraging that service into a new career.
I plan on talking to a recruiter soon, but I'd rather have a good understanding of how I want to proceed prior to doing so, and I'd also like to narrow the above list down. Are any of the above AFSC choices likely to lead to a decently paying full-time job soon after basic training/tech school? Thanks in advance to everyone for taking the time to read and respond.

2024.05.14 22:36 Cataclyps- Dreamlessly. Are you waiting for life to happen to you or is life coming from you?

I seem to have lost understanding of most people.
I see it most oftenly among people my age(21-26). Listening to others, feeding off of those motivational bullshit videos, rich people advice, relationship advice... I see people collect all the knowledge, ideas, information and skills on the planet, yet they do not act. I see people not knowing a thing jump head first, some fail, yet some succeed - Knowledge without experience is merely philosophy; experience without knowledge is ignorance. - Not wary of the preacher most bite into his bullshit. Not knowing the sacred irony of this life that those who preach love do not have love, those who preach peace lack peace and those who preach god... Really need god.
There are sacred ironies and causal relationships that cannot be broken and will persist as cynical clichès until either society crumbles or chatgpt has had enough of my psychotic ramblings and decides to go on a thanos quest to bring peace to the planet.
What I am trying to get at is the fact that a lot of people have completely disregarded themselves and decided to wage war on the only person GENUINELY interested in their well being - their own damn self. "IT's YOU VS YOU" "PAIN IS JUST PAIN" - that type of 'hustle' cope bullshit that the vast majority are consuming so that they do not crumble under their own insecurities.
It is not you vs you, it's you and you versus everything else trying to put you down, manipulate you and toy with you. So just about 95% of the world right now.
The moment you decided to wage a mental war against yourself you're doomed. "YOU NEED CONCRETE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT YOUR OWN MENTAL PICTURE OF YOURSELF BECAUSE AFFIRMATIONS DO NOT WORK" who said that ? Some rich guy selling a course..? Is he going to give you that concrete evidence? Only for 500$ when the 'actual' value is 500000000000000$?
You don't need a 10pack to feel good, you don't need a lamborghini aventador to feel enough, you don't have to be 6'+ to be granted permission to carry confidence unconcealed, you don't gotta be making 100k USD+ minimum to be granted access to the dating world.
Reality exists in your head. Anything else is just pure copius bullshit.
The only true way to change your life is to change your mind, your identity. That doesn't start with becoming a millionaire.
Jim Rohn has a saying I'll tattoo on my ass one day - “If someone hands you a million dollars, best you become a millionaire, or you won't get to keep the money.” -
Life comes from you it doesnt happen to you, if you're dead inside... Too bad life will suck until you perish. You want a better life? change. Change who you are. Kill who you are.
The quality of your thoughts determine the quality of your life. A thought that has been thought too often, becomes a habbit, a habbit becomes a lifestyle and a lifestyle becomes an identity. Let me provide an example a lot of people are familiar with :
If the 'love' of your life has decided that all of the sudden you dick is too short and that your best friend's is able to 'satisfy' her better... and you're dumb enough to have made her the sole priority of your life.. You wound up thinking about her daily. She's getting dicked down, but you still thinkin abt her, obsessing, being sad, imagining happily ever after scenarios. You wake up sad, you work sad, you go to sleep sad.
This goes on for 1 month, by this time frame it has become a habbit. Your brain produces chemicals associated with that depressive feeling, after a certain time period the body takes over. The same way you're breathing without thinking about it, you'll be thinking about her without thinking about her producing an insurmountable amount of depression proteins. And before long you'll be grumpy, salty and ridden with hatred individual. - If you want a really good explanation of this read "Breaking the habbit of being yourself - by Joe Dispenza"
The thoughts that you think determine your life. IF you can convince yourself that you're the person you want to be and you emotionally experience that event and you hold it in your head long enough, it will happen.
You will change your external surroundings by changing your internal surroundings.
Ok. had to get this out of me. Bye.

2024.05.14 22:23 Weather-Disastrous Leave good Boss/remote jobfor more pay?

A recruiter reached out to me about a role and I wasn’t necessarily looking but decided to go through with the process. The interview went well and it seems like they will be offering 120k with a 20% year end bonus. This other place seems like it has a great culture and people have been there for a while. They work 1 day from home and the rest in office, but they do 9/80s (get off at noon on Fridays). They seem like they work a lot when needed and currently acquiring some companies so will be busier I’m sure.
Currently, I make $100k fully remote and have the best boss I have had in my career to this point. If I work late, he tells me to take a day off when I want. He does not micromanage at all, he’s super chill, he teaches me new things when a learning opportunity arises etc. the company does not have much room for growth, but I have only been here a little over a year. I hardly work overtime and can coast if I wanted to here.
I’m conflicted partly because I hate having to leave a good boss/remote job, but the pay increase seems too hard to pass up.
TLDR: is leaving good boss/remote job for pay increase worth it?
Edit: LCOL/MCOL

Day 34 of the Best Colour for Each Species Poll Series! Last time Candy Meerca was a strooong first, no argument there. Today is a personal fav, and on it's special day, no less--Moehog!
No surprises with Meerca! Candy is such an incredible design, not just the best Meerca design but maybe one of the best for the colour overall. It won with 35.8% of the votes! Second was the rather stylish Striped with 13.7%, and finally Maraquan with 12.6%. A few honourable mentions, but overwhelmingly in favour of Candy.
Vote for Meerca if you haven't here, or check out the results here!

Okay so as it says in the title Moe is my fav pet. I just think its friendly yet dopey face is adorable, and their story of being servants to Skeiths until they left for a better life is just too good not to root for. Still, I will admit their paint brush options leave a LOT to be desired. Most of them barely change anything about the pet, even Moehog-specific wearables are sort of meh.
Still, I do have my fav colours. Baby, really sweet looking, just seems happy to be there. Christmas, wrapped up like a present, I think this is such a simple and adorable take on a mixed bag paint brush. Darigan, just feels iconic if not the most terrifying or interestingly designed. The Elderlies both look so sweet here, like they'd be really supportive grandparents. Fire has a fire mane which is a nice touch, even if I'm not a huge fan of the colour overall. I've got a Nostalgic Grey that I use as my lab rat and am obsessed with how devastatingly sad he is. Halloween is an icon too, love the Sloth skull cap. Moehog's friendly little eyes look so sweet and sad in the Magma version, like he's on fire but letting you know it's okay. I've also got a Maraquan Moehog, I like that it's vaguely seacow-ish with the sweet pink nose. Mutant is hilarious, my shopkeeper was a Mutant Moehog for a while named Crump, he still has every disease but he's no less loved for it. Pastel was my first dreamie on my return to Neopets last year, I just think the colouring is perfection even if it's a bit sweeter than a pet I'd normally go for. I also have a Water Moe--I think this brush almost always looks great but especially so on him.
Some gripes: Plushie, Tyrannian, Relic, and the Royals are virtually unchanged. They just slightly altered a feature or two, or maybe added some simple clothes. Disappointing given how over the top some pet designs can be in these colours!
I realize that's a lot of text for a rather unpopular pet, but it can't be helped. It's a sweetie and I feel strongly about it. If you feel differently, any particular reason why? I know Moehog's are like the pound troll pet, and they've gained a bit of a reputation for being less desirable, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Remember polls are open for a week, so if you haven't you can still vote on Lenny, Lupe, Lutari and Meerca!

2024.05.14 21:54 woobstah Burnt out

Hello, might seem like a wack question but i got really into daytrading about a or two ago. I was fully aware of the patience and commitment needed but it was perfect for me, i loved it. I have religiously been on the markets testing strategies and loving the process. Ive lost some money (nothing even mention worthy as i passed a funded and got one singular payout which secured most of my losses. But the last days ive really felt burnt out, i dont have the motivation i had. Even tho this is something i really desire and want i just dont get the excitment i had the first year. Im pretty much break even aswell, i started a funded 100k 3 months ago and ive been stuck at max 2% profit and 3% drawdown. But now im at the point where i dont even feel like opening the charts. I also did a mistake by telling people i started trading, including my gf. This makes it hard to "sweep under the rug". And no giving up is not an option
TLDR: im 19 yo soon finishing my apprenticeship. Been heavily into dt for a year but lost motivation. Even though i know this is something i want. I am pretty disciplined as a person. Please someone guide me towards the next step :,)

2024.05.14 21:48 Itsallkosher1 A few quick questions

Thanks for anybody taking the time to help answer.
My gas sedan is over 100k miles and I’m looking to be proactive so I can sell this current car with no issues. KN is toward the top of the list.
I have a family car for road trip or any other expected long range driving, so this would be for around town work and the longest I can imagine is a few times a month maybe driving to an office that’s 150 miles round trip. Sounds like this 210 (or 250 depending on source?) miles of range would be just fine. I have anxiety about having to charge outside the house, but would definitely just get a home charger. Is there a reason most people would charge away from home if they have the home charger? It’s cheaper and easier right?
For charging: what’s the best way to charge? Do I drive 30 miles during the day and plug it in at night to top it off? If I’m driving that on average a day, do I wait a week and then charge? Obviously days I know I’d be at remote office with the 150mi round trip I would charge the night before all the way.
It seems there is no “subscription” or “upcharge” for lane keep/adaptive cruise. It’s standard. How do you like this? I like adaptive cruise control on family vehicle, but does the lane keep allow me on highway driving to basically barely touch the steering wheel?
I know this car doesn’t qualify for the US tax rebate. Any regrets there? Haven’t looked at financing rates recently, but I’m planning on just buying a year or two old, used in cash. But low rate might change my mind.
Anything to look at for used in terms of battery life? A car under 20k miles has been my “used” rule of thumb in the past. Battery life should be basically the same as new at that point, right?
Anything else I should ask myself or anybody want to share? Thankful for any opinions.

2024.05.14 21:42 uCool2230 $CEEZUR, Emperor of Rome set to conquer Solana?

Its been 6 days since launch for $CEEZUR and it keeps going from strength to strength. There has already been a copy with $conqueror duping some of the core elements and then rugging shamelessly at $100kmc.
With an emphasis on growing consistently and organically $CEEZUR went from $20k to $100k mc on the first pump on the 8th of May before consolidating at its new floor of 60k then pumping to 128k on the 11th of May.
Fortunately and unfortunately the coin then again consolidated at its new floor of 60k due to the dumping of 3% by 2 different holders by the 13th of May. $CEEZUR showed incredible resistance at this level and shot straight back up to $120k where it is currently sitting. Personally I think this is great for long term resistance as now the coins top holders now only have around 20% of the supply. There has been very little sell off resistance and it looks as if the project is about to hit a new ATH much bigger than the last in the coming days.
The last thing you want to see is a token sky rocket from launch and a tonne of bots get in and start dumping, so this organic launch on $CEEZUR looks amazing.
The Roman Empire meme is huge and CEEZUR is the first mover. As the community scales and meme creation multiplies this could become massive within the space with degens and normies alike.
The team has said that they will be getting an animator on board as well as applying for coinmarketcap and coingecko in the next 1-2 weeks.
$CEEZUR is doing great before their paid marketing roll out, this is everything I look for in a memecoin, building a good narrative and slowly forming a core community.
120K MC is so small (even though liquidity is realtively high) and this is extremely early, team really seems to know what they're doing in terms of building a long term project, I expect this to be at $2M within the next 2 and a half weeks.

2024.05.14 21:28 Chicagoroomie312 Lagging Compensation - the Other Cause

Obviously there is a ton of discussion these days about the absurdity of the 150 hour rule, terrible working conditions for new hires in public accounting, and myriad other explanations for why noone wants to major in accounting or get their CPA anymore. I think these are all solid points that need to be addressed, however I think perhaps the biggest single reason is that the pay sucks.
Most of the time, when we talk about the shitty pay, people immediately point to greedy partners who just want to cash out etc. There is definitely some truth to that. But in my view that isn't the full story, the bigger problem is that the value proposition of the profession has eroded.
At the end of the day, the AICPA is run by a bunch of accounting nerds who love rules, details, checklists, and flowcharts. Here is a quick non-exhaustive list of the nonsense rules they have added since I started about 10 years ago: 1) lease accounting - now balance sheets are inflated by nonexistent right of use assets and lease liabilities, and cash rent has been reimagined as amortization of the right of use assets (I think? No one has ever been able to explain this to me in English) 2) revenue recognition - best I can tell, somehow management is supposed to identify all its contracts, determine the key milestones in those contracts, and create a system to tell where they stand on those milestones?
Imagine sitting in a room with the C suite of a family-owned business and explaining why your engagement letter has a $50k-$100k add on for this junk. It is not a fun place to be. In my experience what often ends up happening is that CPAs have to do extra work to comply with this sort of bullshit, but clients simply will not pay for it. This leads to crappy hours and stagnant pay.
The AICPA needs to let go of its obsession with accounting in the abstract and refocus on clients and living, breathing, users of financial statements. What do they want and how can people with our skills help them get it.
One last side note: an especially low-hanging fruit is removing the restrictions on contingent fees for tax services. Personal injury lawyers, Venture Capitalists, cellphone bill negotiators, and many other professions rely on contingent, success-based fees. Clients don't want to pay for theoretical tax savings, they want to pay for literal cash saved. To those who say this creates a conflict of interest, I don't understand why it's any worse for us than it is in any other industry. The related restrictions in Circular 230 haven't fared well in court, and that's without any lobbying or litigation from our trade groups. The AICPA should represent our interest for once instead of sticking its head ever farther up its own ass.

I see a tonne of people who have trouble making affiliate commissions who could with a few tweaks be really make consistent commissions....
I see a tonne of people who have trouble making affiliate commissions who could with a few tweaks be really make consistent commissions....

If this is you lets talk about what's really happening :-)

You mindset is wrong

A lot of people have a victim mindset. They come in with the thought of failure right away and blame everything else apart from taking responsibility themselves.

You have unrealistic expectations A lot of people want to make 100k a month...B

Then they are only willing too invest 1 week and $50 to do so. To make 100k a month let me tells you takes investment in time AND money. You can not skip this fast but you can speed it up.

You are not putting in any or enough work.

I just want to earn money with out doing anything... Its is just what people are telling you to get you onto their thing.

You dont get the basics The skills you need to get from 0-5k per month require knowing the basics...and also to go from 5-10k per month requires a bit more knowledge. To many people want to skip the basics and go " straight to what works"...

Well with out the basics nothing works :-) Learn those first

You are missing direction. I see a lot of people just spinning their wheels, not really knowing what they are doing and moving backwards due to lack of direction.

You need to move in the right direction and KNOW its the direction you need to be travelling in!

You are listening to the wrong advice.

Many people only tell you stuff to sell their thing. and people lap it up with out a second thought. It is what You do that makes the sale, not some magic.

Inconsistency

You cant only work when you feel like it. I have been consistent know for years and years. Because I know this is what it takes to WIN!

You need to get all of these aligned if you haven't already.
One of the best ways to align all of these who to work with some one who has conquered all of these consistently and shows up every day.
I have a new mission to help 100 affiliates make their 1st 6 figures online and the challenge is now starting.
If you are interested to getting on our coaching programs and getting the right advice and becoming and a consistent action taking machine let me know by typing 100 below and I will reach out to you.

2024.05.14 20:55 _1017e_ What do you use for email campaigns?

I have been using Sendiportal for to run email campaigns. This has worked well but recently I think we've outgrown it - due to a couple of facotrs
I've tried Mautic but there're a couple issues, mainly that I cannot currently run it on MySQL 8.
I'm seeking solutions that is actively maintained. It could be self hosted or a SaaS (doesn't have to be free). Preferably done with PHP so we can contribute/modify when able.
What are you using?

2024.05.14 20:28 moediggity3 Benefits to getting two cars from same dealership (one lease, one purchase)?

Question for the sales team.
I find myself in need of two vehicles. We have two Jeep products that are approaching 100k miles each. One is long paid off, one has like $10k left on the note.
We want to get into two Toyotas, likely a Grand Highlander for family travel and to be used locally, and either a Venza or a RAV4 Hybrid for my commute, which is about 45 miles round trip 4 days per week.
We’re thinking about trading in a 2017 Grand Cherokee (90k miles) and a 2015 Cherokee (100k miles) and leasing the G. Highlander and buying the Venza or RAV4.
Just a couple general questions, if I came in with that set of facts, is a dealership playing ball? I’m sure it’s enticing to sell two cars to the same person in parallel transactions to a degree where financial concessions could be made, but does the same hold true if one is a lease? Does the fact that I’d be trading in two high mileage cars for this deal help or hurt the overall process?
Been a while since I bought a car, any insight would be helpful!
Edit: I wasn’t expecting anyone to roll out the red carpet or to give me the special price reserved for the primo customers. The answer could just as easily have been “sure, they’ll easily knock a few thousand off the second one if you buy two” and I’d be pretty dumb for not trying to find that out. Just doing my homework here!

2024.05.14 20:21 Ill_Variation_2480 TTPD's new nickname "Female Rage: The Musical" should upset you.

Edit: If you are going to comment on the length of this post, please don't. This is not a simple snark but rather an actual critical think piece about feminism and Taylor Swift.

Introduction

Pertaining to Taylor Swift, "Female Rage" has deviated from its intended meaning after Swift debuted a new performance of The Tortured Poets Department during the Eras Tour. Now, according to Swift's use of the phrase, female rage is interpreted as public backlash against Swift's dating choices rather than as a response to the broader injustices against women and women's rights. This post examines Taylor Swift's flawed feminism, philanthropy, branding, and the controversial trademark petition for the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical". Swift's background as an entertainer, indeterminate politics, and alignment with capitalism over feminism pervades her legacy, again threatening her public tolerance as not just an individual but as a brand.

Once Upon a Female Rage...

If you were cognizant in the early 2010's, you've heard countless jabs at Taylor Swift in the media. Magazines, radio, or online. Music critics did not take her seriously as a songwriter; parents put a woman on an unrealistic pedestal as the ideal role model for their children; she dated too much and used men as lyrical fodder. No matter the story, it inevitably spread, conjoined with everyone's respective opinions, and you'd be left to wonder, "Why does everyone hate this girl so much?"
Taylor's target demographic has always been young or adolescent girls, more so when Swift herself was one. She made music that spoke to the awkward misfit, cultivating a para-social relationship with fans on MySpace, then later twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, where Taylor posted relatable vlogs showcasing the life of a homegrown American girl. Taylor had a delayed public "growing up" and, compared to her female pop contemporaries, Swift never "gratuitously sexualized her image and seems pathologically averse to controversy" (and, apparently, never even had a sip of alcohol until she turned 21). She was more than happy to spin this narrative to allude to an inherent moral superiority above other women in the industry (Better Than Revenge, heard of it?), engaging in the very slut-shaming that she herself endured (the Madonna and Whore archetypes). The victim complex arose with the need to prove Taylor as a different type of pop girl. Based upon her holy and clean image, Swift had been dubbed "a feminist's nightmare", and that "[To Swift] other girls are obstacles; undeserving enemies who steal Taylor’s soulmates with their bewitching good looks and sexual availability." Feminism and Tennessee-Christian country values don't exactly mix, it seems.
Years later, Swift befriended Lena Dunham and thus experienced white feminism osmosis, where Dunham taught Swift that real feminists defend rapists, makes insensitive jokes about rape and abortion, and prioritize all-white casts. Swift then declared herself a feminist in 2014, saying,
"Becoming friends with Lena – without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for – has made me realize that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so."
I suppose the male-centric songwriting subject that permeates Swift's discography contained covert feminism and that we just didn't see that. Perhaps, the "Bad Blood" song and music video were written only in jest and not about poor Katy Perry, for Swift, as a feminist, would "never make it a girl fight" or tear other women down (though all Katy did was date your terrible ex-boyfriend and allegedly steal three backup dancers from your tour). In 2013, Swift said, in response to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's joke towards her serial dating, "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."
There was that time in 2015 Taylor said that Nicki Minaj was "invited to any stage [she is] on" (as if Taylor expects to have access to every stage, award, and platform that Nicki might not otherwise have as a black female artist...yikes!) in response to Nicki's criticism of the white + thin VMA nominations. Later, Nicki responded with confusion, as Swift continued, "It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..". Of course, this 'beef' was 'squashed' when Nicki performed with Taylor at the VMAs, with Nicki quite literally only having 38 seconds of stage time without Taylor. Maybe all that parading around with a legion of famous white women - similar to the way Taylor might've done with her numerous 1989-era handbags - was in fact a stance against gender inequality, and that this display of "girl power" should be enough to constitute Swift as a feminist icon.
Even while Swift says that Dunham informed her feminist outlook, she dances around the exact contents of those beliefs: "what she believes, what she says, what she stands for" is not exactly insightful towards what beliefs Swift might have inherited. Taylor never broaches women's rights topics such femicide, FGM, forced pregnancy & marriage, sex trafficking, women in slavery, women's financial and political oppression, women's educational rights, women's health, or women's autonomy, so we can assume she only gives a fuck about "girls supporting girls" (whatever that fucking means).
Despite some questionable (and sometimes vindictive) behavior, Taylor as a young woman did not deserve every media lashing that she received. We cannot deny that most headlines and criticisms perpetuated a misogynistic rhetoric which has plagued Swift for a majority of her career. Acknowledging events such as the development of her ED, her sexual assault trial, "Famous" lyric and MV depiction of Taylor, and the explicit Twitter deepfakes, for example, as both disgusting and unfortunate things that happened to a young woman in Hollywood does not negate the fact that Taylor is mostly a performative feminist.

Get Your Fucking Ass Up and Be a Philanthropist, It Seems Like Nobody Wants to Be a Philanthropist These Days

In 2013, Taylor Swift cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. The donation amount - $4 million - was the largest individual artist gift ever donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which is, of course, mentioned on Swift's website. The two-story facility features three classrooms, an instrument room, and an interactive children's exhibit gallery. Swift also performed at "All for the Hall" charity shows and has donated numerous artifacts from her career (such as notable guitars, tour costumes, etc) to the museum.
This was over 11 years ago, and it is still the only notable philanthropic contribution Taylor Swift has made.
For a woman of her net worth and stature, and a woman who recognizes the difficulties for women in film and music, you would think that Taylor Swift might establish a scholarship program for women to study the arts or something. Perhaps Swift might even consider becoming a member of organizations that support female artists, or one that supports LGBTQ+ causes (since she is now proudly an ally), yet she remains superficial with her graces. Broader philanthropy, such as donating relief aid to Palestinian women or women impacted by violence and discrimination will probably never receive any financial support from Miss Swift because then she'd be using her money towards philanthropies involving anyone but white entertainers.
She even says herself in Miss Americana, "My entire moral code as a kid and now is a need to be thought of as 'good'." Well, she's certainly thought of as good, though her actions say otherwise. She's more than happy to do a vaguely altruistic song and dance for a clip-worthy interview quote and mass appeasement, then fuck off to one of her mansions on a 20 minute private jet flight, rather than actually contribute to anything pertaining to the causes she has endorsed. Yet, far too many people continue to give a woman such as her their money, time, and energy, and she hoards these resources to herself.

I Like Some of the Taylor's Songs, But What the Fuck Does She Know About Feminism?

Swift continued with her self-proclaimed feminist campaign, positioning herself as a political activist and LGBTQ+ ally in the Miss Americana documentary. The primary focus of the documentary consists of the sexual assault trial, Andrea Swift's cancer diagnosis, Taylor's ED and body dysmorphia, media scrutiny, and, largely, finally speaking up about her politics publicly, mostly her opposition to the 2018 Tennessee Republican senate candidate, Marsha Blackburn, and Blackburn's beliefs. Swift says, following a scene discussing her experience during the trial,
"I just couldn't really stop thinking about it. And I just thought to myself, next time there is any opportunity to change anything, you had better know what you stand for and what you want to say."
We must ask ourselves, though: when has Swift ever spoken up to change anything? Okay, pulling her entire catalogue from Spotify because they didn't pay their artists enough and similarly pulling her catalogue from Apple Music are changes that she leveraged due to her revenue potential and power, but they are not pertinent to the average woman's rights. Moreover, these are issues that directly impacted Taylor's income, which was enough reason for her to protest in the first place. Swift has sold the most units for a female artist in first week sales, is the first female artist with 100k monthly Spotify listeners, is the first female artist to win the Album of the Year Grammy 4 times, and is the first female artist to do X, Y, and Z, all while being inoffensive and family-friendly to boot. The actual Taylor Swift seems unwilling to compromise the brand of Taylor Swift by contributing in meaningful ways to feminist causes, especially if it is for women outside of America and Hollywood.
The reason political anthems such as "The Man" and "Only the Young" of the Lover era feel disingenuous and corporate is because, well, it is. Taylor has taken every opportunity to advance her career or public image at the expense of other women. What is truly genuine to Taylor's outlook on other women is vying for male attention, taking down female competition, and vocalizing feminist injustices only if they directly impact her and her money. Some will argue that it's satisfactory for a woman with such a huge platform to even TALK about feminism, but that just isn't enough. It's even less impressive when you candidly look at the scope of her feminist lens: "If I was the man, then I'd be THE MAN", or "I really resent the ‘Be careful, buddy, she’s going to write a song about you’ angle, because it trivialises what I do", and, of course, "We all got crowns". Feminism, but only when it happens to me. It gets worse when you look at Taylor's track record of copying other famous women and removing other female artists as potential threats to her pop prowess.
It's good for PR to align yourself with certain blanket feminist and political beliefs, therefore good for branding, therefore good for ticketing and merchandise sales, therefore good for business. And Taylor Swift is a business.
She's not a feminist. Taylor Swift is a capitalist.

I Can't Pay Those Sweatshop Workers a Livable Wage or Benefits! How Else Would I Make My Billions?

Recently, Taylor's team filed to trademark the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical" after Taylor said during Paris N1 of the Eras Tour,
"So you were the first ones to see The Tortured Poets at the Eras Tour...or as I like to call it, 'Female Rage: The Musical'."
This trademark petition was filed last week on Saturday, and news comes about just as numerous unofficial fan-made merch designs have cropped up with this phrase plastered on Fruit of the Loom basics. I'm of the opinion Swift's team motioned for a trademark so that they can send out cease & desists to all those that make knockoff merch, which disrupts potential sales for Bravado, UMG's choice merchandising company; however, since it was filed earlier, perhaps Swift has bigger plans with the bizarre use of the gendered phrase. One Swiftie referred to the phrase "female rage" as "a funny Eras Tour joke". Could it be a possible fourth version of the Eras Tour Movie? Whatever the reason, the motion to capitalize off of such a concept is disgusting, but not unsurprising, for a woman that profits on her vain feminism.
Swift, through her company, TAS Rights Managements, has also trademarked over 200 phrases, including "1989", where she owns the property rights to this calendar year on keychains, phone cases, sunglasses, stationary, bags, beverage ware, clothing, entertainment services, your subconscious, and, of course, Christmas ornaments.
The vapid consumerism in Swiftie culture is, frankly, disgusting. Bravado's sustainability statement is non-existent, the quality control is abysmal, and the materials they use are horrible. The materials, such as acrylic and polyester, are made from petrochemicals. This means they are non-renewable, shed microplastics, and are quite toxic in production. The manufacturing process to make all of those lazy-rushed Eras Tour logo graphic tees is a huge blow to environmental well-being. Apparently, though, Swifties don't give a fuck. They sell out products in seconds and either have to face the manufactured scarcity or buy from a scalper that resells for 200% of the already ridiculous retail price. This doesn't include the environmental impact of vinyl records, CD, and cassette production, of which Taylor produces many variants that sell unsustainable amounts.
If we're talking about women's rights violations, why is no one acknowledging the women that work in the inhumane sweatshop conditions that have to pump out fugly t-shirts and hats? The millions of plastic microfiber dander they are inhaling, or the toxic dyes that touch their bare skin? Are they being compensated fairly for their skilled labour and are they in safe working environments? Do these women have minimal bargaining power, and do they have authority over their worker's rights? Is Taylor Swift female raging at their injustices? Does Taylor Swift ever feels bad that her wealth was built on the backs of women of color, disadvantaged by the demands of the global economy and garment industry? Do you think she ever says a little white feminist prayer for them before she goes to sleep at night?
What's even crazier is not that Taylor herself doesn't care, it's that Swifties don't care. There CANNOT BE ethical billionaires. You only make a billion dollars if you are exploiting other human beings for capital gain. Based on public perception of the possible "Female Rage: The Musical" trademark, it seems like Swifties are already asking for merch with this phrase. "If Taylor made it, I'd buy it." Oh, cool. So not only do you champion Miss Swift's avarice and billionaire status, but you also are unashamed to admit to your blind consumption of her music and merchandise, no matter where they might originate in production or sincerity. Just as Swift takes and takes and takes, Swifties' consumerism of Taylor Swift cannot be quelled.
The tortured artist's most vulnerable and sincere poetry...available now in 21 different versions!

I Am Tortured Poet, Hear Me Whinge

Look - even if Taylor's intention is to characterize TTPD as more "tortured" and "angry", the main thread of the album is "I was ghosted by my decade-long situationship with a controversial indie boy and my fucking stupid fans wrote a 'Speak Up Now' open letter prompting me to drop him" anger, which is adequately expressed in the lyrics and performances. The extent of Taylor's "female rage" on TTPD is on tracks such as "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?", which contends with relentless media scrutiny; "But Daddy I Love Him", where Swift firmly states she'll date whoever she likes no matter how "Sarahs and Hannahs" may react; and "The Albatross", a track mythologizing her reputation and the consequences of dating her. Of course, these coincide with deep psychological wounds that formed during Swift's early years in the media, and so, from her feminist perspective, these subjects tackle the misogyny and double standards that she faced.
Yet Taylor Swift still has no grounds to be claiming that TTPD best exemplifies female rage and therefore she, in the context of this album, is female rage incarnate. As the daughter of a stock broker and mutual fund marketing executive, Taylor was born into wealth and allowed privileges like trips and subsequent relocation to Nashville all so that she might get a record deal. Her father even invested at least $120,000 into the then-fledgling label, Big Machine Records, which ensured Taylor's place with Borchetta after leaving her dead-end development deal with Sony. The fact that her parents were able to buy her a fucking brand new guitar for Christmas and pay for music lessons says so much about the financial security and safety of her childhood.
Money is privilege and protection, and despite Swift's experiences with misogyny and loser boyfriends, she does not know what female rage is.
Her rage is derived from her frustrations with her obsessive fans pulling the moral superiority card on Taylor in response to her rebound with Matty Healy. That's literally it. She's just pissed that the monster she created is no longer obediant, it's become a feral, sovereign entity that depletes the world of its natural resources and thinks it is more intelligent than it actually is because it's mommy has started to talk to it with big words. Apparently, 'illicit', 'elegy', 'nonchalant', and 'precocious' are considerably big words for the oafish monster, and I find it strange that this level of literacy is present in a group of fans that allegedly have GPAs of 3.5 or higher, but I digress.
Taylor Swift has never been one paycheck away from destitution. Taylor Swift has never experienced racial discrimination. She may have instances of gender discrimination, but she possesses the ideal white, blonde American beauty standard and therefore reaps the benefits of being a conventionally attractive woman. Taylor Swift has sufficient social capital. Taylor Swift is a billionaire woman prolonging her victimhood though she, as a woman, has mostly had control over her image and music (unlike her contemporaries). Taylor Swift is NOT entitled to be championed for her "female rage", nor should she be. Taylor Swift has never even been the struggling artist, for fuck's sake. I don't give a fuck if she's trying to fill the empty lunch tables of her past. Taylor Swift purporting herself, her unpolished album, and her lukewarm feminism as a musical bleeding with female rage is asinine.

Sigh Try and Come For My Job, Poors

Out there in the world right now is a 23-year-old woman, a recent college grad, who works as a barista. She has to wake up and get ready to go into a minimum wage job because she cannot get a job in her field. She doesn't have healthcare benefits or sick time, so she has to go into work no matter how she's feeling. All day long she is berated by vicious customers and creepy men, and, exhausted from being on her feet, she knows she has to go home to her shitty roommate that never does the dishes and her roommate's shitty dog. To comfort herself, she considers getting a treat, but thinks against it when she remembers that matcha lattes cost $15 and they taste like milky dirt. She knows that she needs to buy groceries this week, and so the woman resolves to go home, but notices that her gas tank is low. She goes to put gas in the car, but the pump stops at $27.86 because that's all that she has in her checking account. The woman, bereft and reeling, sinks into the driver's seat. "Well," she thinks, her head in her hands, "at least I don't have Taylor Swift's job. I just couldn't imagine."
Fame is somewhat of a choice. If at any moment Taylor feels that she is misunderstood, misconstrued, or overwhelmed by public opinion, she can LEAVE the public eye - Lord knows she has the retirement fund and residuals to do so. In "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart", the TTPD song about meeting the demands of your career-zenith mega-tour while in the relationship trenches, Taylor ends the song by rambling,
"You know you're good when you can even do it with a broken heart...you know you're good...and I'm good, cause I'm miserable, and no one even knows!...try and come for my job."
Yeah, obviously we wouldn't know, you recently passed the billionaire threshold and are the most famous and in-demand performer in the world right now. Taylor Swift makes an estimated $10 to $13 million dollars A NIGHT on the Eras Tour. Furthermore, the Eras Tour movie grossed $261.6 million globally, (which, as the producer, Taylor takes home 57% of the ticket sales) not counting the streaming revenue from Amazon Prime Video and the estimated $75 million deal that Disney paid to have it on Disney+. We're not even considering the income from cheap plastic popcorn buckets and drink cups plastered with colored squares in her Era-specific likeness.
It's funny. Taylor Swift often said that being famous wasn't hard, that she "isn't complaining". I'm sure it is difficult to always have to present in a good mood, else you'll end up misrepresented in the media, and I'm sure it's invasive to virtually have no privacy or semblance of anonymity. Still, Taylor Swift shows up each night of tour and performs. For a majority of her career, she has penned her sad songs while on the road. Most of "Red", her breakup album, was written in the thick of the Speak Now World tour. Now, some Swifties say they almost "feel bad" for attending the Eras Tour with Swift's revelations in this song, that they have had a 'dimmed experience' upon hearing Taylor's misery whilst performing. Despite the fact that Taylor said that "this was the happiest she's ever been" at Gilette Stadium in May, the lyrics "boohoo, woe is me, smile for the cameras and make the fans happy!!!" are jarring for Eras attendees.
While Taylor Swift was making double-digit millions a night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and feeling miserable, Ana Clara Benevides Machado passed away due to heat exposure. The concert promoters, Time For Fun, are now the subject of a criminal investigation due to their lack of adequate hydration and safety. Taylor Swift cancelled the Sunday show that was to follow and offered VIP tent tickets to Benevides Marchado's family, which was a kind gesture, but perhaps incongruous to the incident of which they were offered as consolation. Everyone grieves differently, of course, but I'm not sure attending the very show at the very same venue that my daughter or sister passed away in two days prior, where the singer CONTINUED the show despite her death, would be healthy for closure.
There was no female rage at the show as Swift never saw Benevides Machado pass out. There was no female rage towards the disregard for fans as humans while Swift elected to proceed with her Brazil tour dates despite the country being in historic heatwaves (at risk of overheatting herself). If Taylor Swift was so shaken by touring with a broken heart or a fan's passing, she wouldn't have added an additional North American leg of Eras just two months after the Matty breakup. She's brokenhearted but willing to mend the cracks with your money and move onward with her worldwide female rage induced pillaging.
No matter what happens, even if you die at a Taylor Swift concert, Taylor collects a big fat check and flies away. She doesn't know you as anything other than a conversion rate or earning potential despite what her nearly 20-year long parasocial relationship with fans might otherwise indicate. She knows that, while some Swifties are without disposable income, they feel obligated to spend on a "48 Hours Only!" exclusive vinyl variant instead of necessities because they are so entrenched in Taylor Swift's intoxicating celebrity, they'll prioritize materialistic fandom before their needs. This is good enough for her because this means she can expand her real estate portfolio and finance her cat's lavish lifestyles. They're worth an estimated $100 million dollars. Her three cats could pool their net worth and solve world hunger.
While you and I might be denied bereavement leave and barely surviving the current political and economic climate, Taylor Swift has to, instead of gets to, perform for stadiums at full attendance for three nights in a row across the globe. You and I might be replaced by AI at our longtime jobs, but Taylor Swift is threatened with losing more and more money each time you listen to a "Stolen Version" of her songs. If we don't buy every variant of all of her albums, then who is going to pay for the fucking cats?
It is tone deaf to spend as she spends and lives as she lives in this economy, but this is her reality. She was able to donate $100,000 to all of her tour truck drivers, and that's wonderful, but it leads me to wonder about the ethos of the 2020s where one woman can hoard such life-changing amounts of money. Remember in 2014 when she gave a fan $90 ($120 in today's money) to get Chipotle because she had no fucking clue how much it cost? This is a 34-year-old woman who is increasingly out of touch with the reality for working class people and women in general. Normal everyday adults must wake up and go to their thankless jobs, and yet Taylor Swift, despite all her riches, incessantly references the lows of her life and career as a public figure and entertainer to farm sympathy and drive sales. And still, the corporate women have latched onto "I cry a lot, but I am so productive! It's an art!" as their cubicle battle cry.
Do you think that, from up in her private jet, Taylor Swift gazes at the world through her poetic, tortured eyes, and thinks, "All the little people, in their cars, walking, going about their lives...all those girls that don't support girls...do they know that I've made an album about female rage?"

Conclusion/TLDR

Thank you for reading. I would love to hear your critical insights towards this entire ordeal: TTPD, the trademark, the implications of it all.
TLDR: Taylor Swift is a bad feminist and is delusional to think that the TTPD eras set exemplifies female rage at women's injustice.

2024.05.14 20:11 xl826 My Winning Baccarat Strategy

A lot of people ask if you can consistently make money at Baccarat. The answer is kind of. I am a gambling hobbyist and in the last 20 years I've probably made over $100K at Baccarat. I've made more at Blackjack and Poker but those two games are A LOT of work. I like the simplicity of Baccarat where I can chat with the dealers and other players.
So, what's my secret? It comes down to money management and waiting for hot streaks. I bide my time playing the minimums and sit out hands when the shoe is choppy. But when a streak comes in I bet big (but not never the entire bankroll in one shot).
Below are the rules I live by when I play Baccarat. They work for me. I'm sure they'll be many of you that have made money breaking some or all the rules below, but these strategies have made me money and put me in a net positive. Feel free to ask any follow-up questions or even voice disagreement with my list. Good luck playing!
  1. Accept that you will go home a loser sometimes. This is the most important thing I've learned about Baccarat. I can't win every Baccarat session nor can I break even sometimes. It's better to go home a slight loser than being in the hole $10K. If you are to be successful at Baccarat, you need to fully absorb this. It is the number one rule to my success.
  2. I do not employ the Martingale or Fibonacci betting systems. They work until they don't work and when they don't work you're going to lose a lot of money.
  3. I only increase my bets after a winning hand and never a losing hand. Human nature tends to want to increase bets after a losing hand to win money back. The opposite should be done. Increase your bets only when you are winning.
  4. Employ a trailing stop with winnings. By all means increase your bets when you are on a hot streak but ALWAYS put aside money that you will absolutely go home with as a winner. If you don't know what a trailing stop is, Google it.
  5. Never bet against a streak of four or more. I have personally seen a Player streak of 13 in a row (with some ties interspersed) that wiped out an entire table of bettors. If you wan to bet against a streak wait until the streak is over.
  6. Avoid side bets. The payouts are wonderful but they are few and far between. Stick with Banker or Player.
  7. Believe in luck. When I have a streak of bad luck it's bad. I get an 8 and the opposite hand gets a 9. When I get a 9 so does the opposite. But I also get streaks of good luck, I get a three card 1 and the opposite gets a 0. When my luck is bad I just go home to come back another day.

2024.05.14 20:08 Blazin65 First Time at WSOP - What do you think of my schedule?

Sup yall. I turn 40 this year, and I decided to spoil myself with my first WSOP trip. I am going May 27-31st and staying at Paris. The only other plans I have is seeing the Dead & Co. concert at the Sphere on Thursday night. Stoked about that too.
Here's what I am thinking of playing while there, I am trying to see a lot of different rooms while to experience them all:
Monday - $160 at Aria at 1 PM(20k chips, 20 minute levels). Nice low buy-in warm up right when I get into town. If I'm out early from that one, then I am trying to decide between the $200/20k guaranty at Orleans (25k chips, 20 min levels), or the Resorts World Nightly $200/$5k guaranty (25k chips, 30 min lvls). Seems to me like all 3 of these have nice structures for the low buy in amount.
Tuesday - Either the $400/$40k guaranty at Orleans at 11:00 am (40k chips, 30 min lvls), or $600/$30k guaranty at Venetian at 11:00 AM (50k chips, 30 min levels) - If knocked out early then I'll probably play the WSOP $250 Daily (25k chips, 30 min levels) that starts at 1 PM every day - If knocked out later in the afternoon/evening, then probably wont join another tournament because I have to get up early on Wednesday. Maybe a good night for a nice Vegas steak dinner.
Wednesday - W.S.O.P. Event #3 $500 Freezeout at 10:00 AM (25k chips, 30 min levels). First bracelet event for me, pretty excited. I thought the freezeout was a good option because I will not be firing multiple bullets hardly ever, so puts everyone on same page as me. If I'm knocked out of that one, I'm going to play the MGM Grand Event #1 $400/$100k guaranty that starts at 6 PM (30k chips, 30/40 min levels).
Thursday - Both of the Wednesday tournaments are 2 day events. So I'm leaving Thursday open to hopefully be in a day 2, or just hang out and chill that day. Watch some of the pro's play their final tables and get ready for the concert that night.
Any thoughts/feedback on the schedule is greatly appreciated. Also would appreciate any other useful tips for a WSOP newbie as well. Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 20:07 Hungry-Event-5956 Had enough- teacher turning 40. Want to be with my own kids.

I am about to turn 40 and I feel like I cannot handle the stress of my job anymore. I am sick all the time and exhausted. (Yes I work out and yes I eat healthy) My kids are getting older and have big kid problems. I worked through my pregnancies and plopped them in daycare at 3 mos old. I hustled. I have been teaching 18 years. I have another 25 years to go till retirement- age 65. (Yep that would be 43 years of teaching) And no health insurance when I retire- not the good old days anymore.
My work environment is toxic here. I wake up early and get home and I have nothing left for my family. I am emotionally and physically taxed. I am out of sick days. My mental health is tanking bc I am spread too thin. Work is killing me.
Middle School starts next year for one of my kids who has a learning disability/ADHD. My other has health issues. For once I want to focus on them.
I don't care what I do next, as long as it is flexible and somewhat less stressful. I am done breaking up fights, getting cursed at by students and yelled at by my admin and parents threatening to beat me up.
My husbands career pays the majority of expenses. Our gross is $279,000. I make $80k. He is trying to move up so he can start to replace my salary and we are cutting back on expenses by having kids drop travel sports, so I can be home more often and take care of what they really need. They need me- even for the next 8 years, till the first one (girl) graduates. We realize that travel sports are a luxury and the cost of living in NJ is not getting any cheaper. My husband now has to commute two days a week to work, 3 hours total and no longer will be available to get kids on and off the bus like he has been. I leave before them and arrive after they get home. That is also a concern. Since I am the one making less money, I can try to find something else that maybe is hybrid or part time so we don't have to hire someone to watch the kids. I don't know if his 2 days will become 3 or 4. Return to office sucks! Him being home was so nice.
What job can I get that will allow for some flexibility? Any advice from people who are here or been here? I can take the advice!
Also in terms of stats- we own both our cars- 8 and 12 years old, good condition, just hit 100k miles on each. We pay almost $4k in mortgage monthly. We owe $529k on our house. House is now worth $1.5m (due to location and land). Purchased for $721k with very low interest and we are slowly updating it. Biggest expense besides mortgage is travel sports- $10k a year which we are now cutting down to $3k a year.

2024.05.14 19:43 Yuri_Lover23 Question

Would you consider yourself a successful Fanfic (Even if its Smut) writer if you upload any story and it immediately gets 10k reads in a day? That single chapter.
It all feels so surreal to me, honestly.
One one hand, I'm a bit frustrated that my actual Novel, which I had been trying to work on since 2017 but never could due to personal reasons, gets less reads than a chapter of a Smut that I upload.
On the other hand, holy shit, my readers actually like my stuff. Ever since I said "fuck" it and uploaded more stories rather than working on my first successful Fic which has 500+ Chapters, I have found amazing success. They're not done, only around 25 chapters on average (The ones that are a month old) and have mroe then 500k reads, which I do consider a lot.
Many readers have different opinions; some like and want the smut more than anything while others prefer actual plot and character development and would call out some "Inconsistencies" in my MC's actions.
I just find it odd that I could come up with a random story idea (smut), figure out a way to make it work, upload a chapter and suddenly BOOM, 10k reads.
Then my Novel, which doesn't have a lot of Chapters though, is struggling to keep up. But I guess its harder for Novels to gain traction, which I'm fine with. When it does reach the 100k read milestone, it will be a nice feeling.
I'm just saying, I have been writing these Smuts for almost a year now, well the new stories have been out for a little over a month and I have a lot of success in them.
