2024.05.15 00:23 mtins Dwarf Eureka Lemon Question

Dwarf Eureka Lemon Question
Hello! This is a dwarf eureka lemon tree that I’ve had for a year. I’m trying to determine what, if anything, I should be doing with these limbs. The red lines on the first photo are the main trunk and branches that the tree arrived with - they’ve been steadily growing fine. However, my question is with the blue limb. It shot out while I was away for a couple of weeks and the sub recommended I leave it since it seemed to be happy (photo 2). However, I’m starting to wonder. It’s putting out these huge leaves (that don’t look healthy, photo 4) but no flowers or fruit. The original branches are putting out smaller, darker leaves (photo 3) as well as flowers and fruit (photo 5). The tree gets a ton of light and regular citrus fertilizer. I’m really, really tempted to prune off this lower limb so the tree can focus on the productive branches. Does anyone have suggestions of what I should do?

Team Predictions For MCC Twitch Rivals 2 (Balanced...Kinda?)

Red Rabbits- Shadoune, Serpias, AnsiChan, Coldified
This team seems EXTREMELY good in pvp and it may be a bit op compared to some other teams but I think some other teams have some huge pop-off potential
Orange Ocelots-SandwichLord, Jack Manifold, Bekyamon, Eloise
The long awaited arrival of SANDWHICHLORD!! I feel like he will get a full British team so i try to put him with people that necessarily too op while at the same time trying to go for a fun team
Yellow Yaks-Fabo, LetsHugoTV, Wichtiger, Nooreax
I know basically nothing about this team except that they are all German but I feel this team is more here for fun but i still cant wait to see what the have in store
Lime Llamas-Pete, Tubbo, Aimsey, FitMC
LETS GO THE RETURN OF AIMSEY AND THE RISE OF FITMC!! I think this team will to amazing in team games and especially with Pete as their residential S-Tier I think this team is for sure top 4
Green Geckos-Aypierre, Skyyart, MathoX, TheGuill84
Once again I don't know a ton about this tea, I know they are all French and I have a feeling this team will pop off like CRAZY
Cyan Coyotes-Couriway, Fulham, False, Ollie
COURIWAY AND FULHAM IN MCC...AND ON THE SAME TEAM! It could never happen right...? Now ill be honest i debated swapping Couri and Pete but I knew that the reddit would be after me lol and plus i think with false and Ollie this is one of the more stacked teams
Aqua Axolotls-Shane, CPK, Shubble, LexieMariex
I think this team is just an all around vibe team and at the same time I could see these guys getting top 4 easy. It was really hard to put Lexie on a team but I just felt like she would really just like get a long and vibe more here
Blue Bats-Fruitberries, Owen, Scott, Guqqie
I know, I know "OWENS NOT ON ORANGE AAAAAAAAAAAA" but I'm pretty sure these guys will get a jersey again like the did for rivals 1 and i would really feel bad if he got the same jersey for such a big event and i just think this team is just a really good "team game" team if that makes sense
Purple Pandas-Jojo, Jvckk, Michaela, Snifferish
I know that Jojo REALLY pushed for Jack to get in so its kinda a given that they will be on the same team and I feel like Michaela and Sniff just really round out this team
Pink Parrot-Alex, 5up, JeremyFraiser, Kaelen
Now I'm gonna be honest we know that only 39/40 players got announced and I have a feeling it will be someone like Kaelen and i feel like he fits perfect here but.. If this team were to ever happen they would DECIMATE the event and getting EASY first but if this is true I'm so down to see it

2024.05.15 00:19 Notactuallyashark Ragnar Zion Trail: Review and Recap

Ragnar Zion Trail: Review and Recap
I’ve seen some posts over time regarding Ragnar trail races and thought I’d give an overview of my experience! My team and I just finished the Ragnar Trail relay race outside of Zion National Park this past weekend. This was my first Ragnar. Warning: this post is going to be very long.
Basic Race Overview: Ragnar trails are relay races in which a team of 8 (or 4, if you want to do double the amount of loops with half the time of breaks in between) runs from a central campsite through a series of loops. After start, one runner is always out on the course until everyone has done all of their loops.
For Ragnar Zion, we each ran 15 miles (for a team total of 120 miles). Each one of us had to run three loops: - Green Loop: 4 miles, ~300 ft gain - Yellow Loop: 4 miles, ~650 ft gain - Red Loop: 7 miles, ~ 950 ft gain
Each loop begins from same location which is close to the campsite.
Preparation : Full disclosure, I was not team captain so I don’t have specific logistics of the sign up process. 8 of us signed up January. We had members from 3 different states and 1 from Canada. Some of us were avid runners, others ran a few 5ks before the race. I am a frequent runner and was running 15-20 miles per week mostly on trails. I didn’t do any specific training plan, but I never have even when prepping for a half marathon, etc. I don’t consider myself very competitive and all of us really just wanted to finish and have fun.
Getting there/setting up: for this race Ragnar rented out Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort. The race begins on Friday morning, but the campsite opened at noon Thursday. Our car got there around 4:30pm Thursday which I’m very thankful for: there were very few campsites left in the trees. There was also a “field” area without shade coverage at the ranch but we wanted the more authentic camping experience in the trees.
You dropped your stuff off and were able to load it into a carriage of sorts (meant for horses) to pull up to your campsite while the driver took the car to the parking lot and took a shuttle back. I will say this process was EXTREMELY streamlined and easy, which was a definite theme the entire time during this race.
I should note there was also a “glamping” option in which there was already tents set up for you with electricity, etc. but our group didn’t go for that as most of us were very happy to be camping.
The Resort: Zion Ponderosa Ranch was beautiful and extremely well maintained. There was a pool and a hottub available for use and neither were ever very crowded. There was a couple actual restroom facilities that were extremely well maintained, both near each area to camp. Showers were in the same buildings and warm and free. It was advertised that there was rock climbing but nobody appeared to be doing it all weekend.
There were a multitude of food options; we tried the Mexican food truck and it was legitimately the worst Mexican food I’ve had in my life, but had burgers that were being grilled outside and they were decent. My friends had the pizza inside the lodge once and it took forever to get to them but it was also good. Beer was available from the lodge and also they had a brewery with a stand with draught beer that was awesome, but I forget the name.
The Expo: Tons of awesomeness here! Lots of free swag including nutrition, insole demos, physical therapy assessments and free taping, massages, chirp wheels, hot water and coffee, s’mores…live music, movies. The village was small but definitely effective. There wasn’t campfires allowed in campgrounds however there were bonfires scattered around the resort. Unfortunately no show demos this race though I’ve heard at others there are. Also a store selling Ragnar swag and Zion stuff available to purchase at the lodge.
Race Logistics: And now to the good stuff!! In order to get an accurate estimate of time, the team submitted our 10k road race paces. We ranged from 7:00 to 11:30 miles, most of us clustered around 10:00. Ragnar calculates that pace, bumped up due to trail conditions, to give you a start time for runner #1 and about when each consecutive runner will start. I will say we ended an hour and 45 minutes early so we had to actively estimate when to be ready ourselves! We started at 10:30 AM but the slowest teams started around 6:30 AM I believe and the fastest at 5:00 PM!
When your team’s current runner is a quarter mile from the end of the loop, your team name will be displayed on a screen near the start line to alert you to send your next runner to the transition tent to exchange the bib and belt. This was a very streamlined process also.
The Course: The course was made up of 3 loops. I was assigned as runner #6 of 8, because I wanted to do red-yellow-green. All three loops zigzagged through rocks, sand, and dirt with a couple road crossings. No water crossings. Mostly rocky not a lot of roots, but some. EXTREMELY well marked even in the dark. The trails never felt congested though you always saw other runners. Single tracks in spots, dirt roads in others. Everyone was extremely polite and encouraging. There were photographers posted during the daytime in spots.
  • Green Loop: 4 miles, ~300 ft gain. I ran this one last at 9:30 AM. Finished 47:17 for a 11:54mi average pace. Grassy and very nice rolling hills! This was my second favorite loop but I was very tired by then.
  • Yellow Loop: 4 miles, ~650 ft gain. I ran this one at 11:30PM, and I was the lucky runner who got poured on. Finished 56:55 for a 14:20mi average pace. I was tired and cold so I walked a lot in the dark. This route was very sandy and very very steep in sections but once over the major hill was extremely fun. It was cool to see headlamps in the distance on the red loop too. My teammates said it has nice views!
  • Red Loop: 7 miles, ~ 950 ft gain. I ran this one first at 3:30PM. Finished 1:27:07 for a 12:05mi average pace. Man, I loved this loop. Hilly at first but once I got past that it was a trail runner’s paradise. Very cool sweeping views of Zion vistas as you run along a ridge. Fabulous.
Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the scenery. It was pretty but mostly grass and light shrubbery with distance views of canyons. If you haven’t been to Zion, it did not even close to compare to what scenery is around. However I liked the routes themselves from a runner’s perspective, except yellow, but it was wet and sandy and steep AND dark.
The Finish Line: This part was cute. Most teams ducked into the course at the last moment to finish with their last runner. The medals they gave were wooden plaques and pretty cool, and the backs of them lined up together among your team to say “120 ish miles together, a relay good time”. We also got cotton tshirts included that had a cool Ragnar Zion graphic. A bit bummed we didn’t get athletic shirts as my captain had said she got at a different race before. I was able to exchange my small shirt for a larger one.
Overall Impression: I mean, I LOVED doing this. The vibes were absolutely immaculate; it was truly an all-ages, all-sobrieties, all-abilities type event. The grounds were kept extremely clean and everyone was respectful at camp, and super friendly out on trail. It truly was a well oiled machine, you can tell Ragnar has the experience to put on this type of event successfully. It was exhausting and exhilarating. The only cons were how cold it was, particularly at night (around 40 degrees) and I wish the scenery reflected the beauty of the area a bit more. I would 10/10 do another Ragnar Trail, but I don’t think I’d do this one again (generally not a repeat course runner though).
If you read all that hopefully you got some good information! Feel free to ask any questions!

2024.05.15 00:19 shdjvjvxjv An incident with someone who has a “chronic invisible illness” really shook me up

They’re a nice person. A very preachy, kind of annoying person that will talk my ear off about really stupid shit, but for the most part nice. They’re always talking about their various chronic invisible illnesses (fibro, MS, etc), as well. I’ve always been curious about those types, whether it was actually real most of the time. Of course it is for some, and I know that women are more inclined to suffer from autoimmune diseases (most likely due to hormone levels), but it’s those who are the most histrionic about it that make me want to be a little more discerning lol.
This person started displaying some pretty concerning behavior recently though. Red flags went up for me immediately, but others seemed to be taking them seriously. Next I heard about them is that they went missing for half a day due to having an episode, and from what I heard, it was a surprise to their family and friends.
I did some light research and found that schizophrenia symptoms almost parallel the symptoms of most of these invisible chronic illnesses. That’s just really scary to me. It’s made me wonder how many people who claim to have these diseases are the real deal and how many are suffering from mental illness. Either way, I guess they are sick after all? Are these people self-diagnosing and just neglecting to seek mental help, or are they going to the doctor and getting a diagnosis for their symptoms without a psych evaluation? Either way it makes me sad and worried that people aren’t getting the help they really need. Not everyone is privy to what red flags look like in these situations and are taking things at face value so as to not come off as insensitive or dismissive or offensive, and that’s a huge problem not just regarding this issue but others as well. We need to call things that are clearly mental illness out for what they are. Maybe I’m being preachy and annoying myself by posting this lol, but it’s been on my mind.
I’m really sad for the person who’s been suffering from these issues and didn’t get the proper help until things got out of hand.

2024.05.15 00:17 freeaav My experience with first time bc

Ive been taking the opill for a little over a month now, and i wanted to share my experience so far so others can maybe know what to expect.
To start things off, im 22, weigh about 118 pounds. ive never been on any form of birth control (strict hispanic parents). Im also not super sexually active, my and my boyfriend are long distance so we dont get to see each other often, but when we do, tmi, we have a lot of sex (condom and/or raw). We use the pullout method a lot, and thankfully no surprises. This is one of the main reasons why i decided to start taking the opill, added protection. I also have really bad cramps while on my period, so i did some research and saw there was a possibility of my cramps not being too bad or just getting rid of my period completely (which i dont prefer).
I bought the 3 month supply, and ive finished 1 pack and im on week 2 of a new pack. The only side effects Ive noticed are: slight increase in appetite (no noticeable weight gain, i actually look a little slimmer), tendesensitive breasts, a little bit more discharge than usual, and increased libido(within 3 weeks of starting). Im aware its different for everyone, and i was nervous for weight gain, and increase in acne, but i just learned to not over eat, and keep up with a daily skincare routine.
I started the pills after my period, and i havent felt any kind of dizziness, nausea, or anything like that. I actually felt pretty good. I was hoping to still get my monthly period, for confirmation that im for sure not pregnant, and i did end up getting it! On my expected day i really only noticed some cramping, and the day after that, the bleeding started 3 days after my expected day, and the cramps were still bad. I was going through it at work, had to sit down most of the time, and my painkillers took a little longer to kick in but they did eventually. TMI WARNING, my blood also was a bit chunkier, nothing too crazy but i did notice it a little bit. My periods are usually like 2-3 days, then the rest is just the bbq stage. I started my period last week on Thursday, and usually by this time, I'd be in the bbq stage but my blood is still a normal bright red, not even dark. This isnt common for MY body, and im hoping the bleeding stops soon. At this time i have no cramps, i did have a little breakout but nothing my routine couldnt fix in like a day.
I havent had any kind of sex since starting the pill, but my bf is coming over in June so I'll keep updating if anyone is interested.
But yea this is my experience so far, overall im happy with it, just hoping my period goes away soon🙏

2024.05.15 00:15 CanIBorrowYourShovel DIY repair for Blue Ella /w dead battery (walkthrough inside)

Sorry for the lack of photos, but this one is easy to follow since the repair was so simple. This should be the same for all of the blue headphones with an internal amp
The blue ella has been discontinued, so it's selling for about $110 on amazon, down from its $700 MSRP. If anyone saw my review, I think they're easily the best closed backs under $200 by a country mile right now, with the ability to be used without the internal amp, with it to just cleanly amplify a weak source (amazing for my miyoo mini which has a stupidly weak amp) or with an "analogue" EQ mode that bumps the sub bass and warms it up a bit. I've been using them and adoring them, they're superb gaming cans. HOWEVER, I noticed the amplifier battery was lasting an absolutely wretchedly short amount of time, like 45 minutes. Turns out a battery powered device sitting in a box for like 7 years means the battery isn't gonna be very happy.
However, the repair was dirt cheap and super, SUPER easy. The battery is a very standard 3.7v, 1000mAh unit with the standard charging PCB covered in capton take inside the right earcup. I ordered a replacement one off amazon for $9 along with a $4 roll of double sided electrical tape. The replacement battery is 5x34x50mm, but the original is about 4x36x60 with another 1mm thickness of double sided adhesive foam. But the new battery fits just fine with some double sided tape that isn't 1mm (I used 1mm tape and it was a hair thick, but still worked. regular double sided tape is ideal) and the repair was a snap, only requiring a spudger or something to gently pry the earcup off (a butter knife would work) a t5 torx bit, and two little dots with a soldering iron (you should also get some solder and a little flux, some isopropyl alcohol and a Q tip to clean up the flux) and a pair of pliers or flush cuts to snip the connector off the replacement battery and strip back some wire. A pair of tweezers would be helpful too.
Firstly, remove the earcups (do both sides since it's easy and makes accessing the rest much easier) by gently placing the spudger or device between the brown of the earcup pad and the black plastic trim, and prying until it pops, then just work around, they'll pop right off. The bezel is very sturdy but be mindful of not nicking the pleather cups, they are glued to the frames and replacement pads are only really available through a custom pad maker like Vesper.
Now all we need to work on is the right side. Unscrew the 6 long T5 torx screws holding the driver and its bezel in place. The two short t5 screws just hold the bezel to the driver and can be left in place - removing them makes the whole thing a bit more unwieldy. The driver and bezel come right off, there's no adhesive. Don't lose the foam pad that goes between the driver and the rest of the earcup. Now remove the 2 t5 screws on the little cross brace that holds the battery down and set it aside.
Now we can remove the old battery - Safety dictates that you desolder the battery first - just follow the super obvious two wires to the board, make note or take a picture of which is red and which is black, and desolder them. The solder joints on mine were quite aged, so a touch of flux and fresh solder was necessary, but this is about as easy as soldering work gets. Once the battery is desoldered, use your spudger or pry tool to gently pry on the sides of the battery to release the adhesive. it's not super strong adhesive and mine came free with minimal effort.
Now place some double sided tape on the replacement battery and put the replacement battery in its place. the little battery "tray" makes lining it up easy. Align it the same way the old battery was, with just tape on one side. My new battery had a JST connector, so I snipped it off and stripped the wires back about 2mm. Tin your wires by touching them with some flux and fresh solder. Then I used some tweezers to hold the wire down while I soldered them in. Wipe up any excess flux with a little isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip, make sure the solder didn't bridge between the positive and negative, and put it back together! Don't forget the little cross brace that clamps the battery down first, then orient the foam/drivebezel pack in place and screw it down. Pop the ear cups back on by pressing down on their very outside edge to make 'em clip into place. Charge it up and enjoy!
(one piece of advice when screwing screws back into plastic - when you put the screw into the hole, first turn it backwards until you feel a little bump or click, and THEN drive it in. This prevents cross-threading and accidentally chewing up the threads. And be mindful of not over-tightening. They aren't going to come loose on their own very easily, plastic is a lot grippier than screwing metal into metal, so you don't need to torque anything down.)
If your amp switch ever starts to get wonky, I also discovered in my disassembly adventure that the knob just engages with a regular slider switch like a gameboy uses. You can just touch some contact cleaner in that switch if it ever gets weird.
Overall, I was really impressed at how easy they are to repair and how pleasantly standard the battery is. I was worried that maybe I'd only ever just use them unamplified (which isn't too hard, as I understand they're fostex T50 drivers) but for maybe... 15 minutes of work start to finish, they're as good as new.
Now I just need to see how long these vinyl pads last before I have to get vesper audio to make me some proper leather replacements. I hate pleather.

2024.05.15 00:14 TearsOfLA 15 is a great ending point

I've been rewatching and achieving the series before the site goes down tomorrow, and I've for a long time been "13 is the best ending", but watching through 15, it is a really good ending point. It provides closure not only on chorus, but their actions with freelancer and the lives it ruined, it brought the consequences out of the canyon and showed how it impacted the galaxy at large.
It also showed an alternate path the story could have gone down. The Blues and Reds are what would have happened if the crew chose violence and vengeance, holding on to grudges, and taking the fight beyond freelancer. It puts into perspective that our crew may be stupid, but they are actually good people who made a positive impact on the world around them.
It also provided character closure without invalidating the end of 13. We don't see the fight, and we don't know how it went, all we get is Tucker saying "it was badass, then it was over, and he was gone." We get to see the process of grief that even though they won, they lost their friend, and while they are still sad, they can keep going. The finale with church is touching too; the sentiment behind "don't say goodbye" is nice, but there comes a time when something truly is gone, and it's ok to say goodbye. Epsilon learned it in the memory unit, caboose learned it here, and they don't disservice church's sacrifice by bringing him back.
We even get closure on some beloved side characters. Sister reunites with grif, the chorus group is doing well for themselves, doc airs his incredibly justified grievances, we learn the existence and fate of a number of freelancers, as well as more of their interpersonal dynamics that we missed in 9/10, and locus shows that he really is trying desperately to be better, even when it is hard. We got the Multiplayer character from bgc back, and they were just as funny as they were originally, with an awesome callback to "the beast". Vic is there too, and our favourite insane computer program has some of the beat joke lines since bgc. The only one that we really missed out on was Junior, which would have been great with the whole "Tucker has child support" joke.
It's not a perfect season by any means but what season doesnt have any flaws at all? The process server fell a little flat, it was a good joke, but the buildup was way too much for so little payoff. Carolina and Wash being way too trusting of the Blues and Reds is a little out of character, and the Blues and Reds even allowing Andrew's to be around was kinda dumb (but in character because they are still idiot sim trooper in the end). Donut getting zapped at the end as the setup for the next 2 seasons can be ignored as it isn't left as a cliffhanger to draw you into them, it's just a thing that happens.
The season overall left the story in a good place. There will always be a crowd, I used to be included, that says showing anything afterward devalues the meaning of 13, but living past trauma and sacrifice is why the sacrifice happened at all, and dealing with grief in the aftermath of tragedy is a part of life, and leads to great storytelling opportunities in media, and this was no different. I didn't finish 15 clamoring for more, I didn't feel dissatisfied with the characters or their arcs, I didn't feel like there was something missing. It wrapped it up neatly, and the only part that really gets left behind by finishing here is Washs trauma, which I liked in later seasons, but can be fanon "American Graffiti ending"-ed to flush it out.

2024.05.15 00:14 NDad1988 I've been NC with NDad for 2 years now. Just received his wedding invitation.

I'm in my thirties, but have only recently realized my father is a narcissist. It was hard to figure out because he exhibits behaviors of a Covert Narcissist. He's a major love-bomber, especially after he's fucked up. His rage is biblical and when he sees red, he'll destroy whatever is in his path. When angry at my mother, he ran through her china set (from her deceased gma) and shattered them all against the wall. When angry at my brother, he ripped a monitor from the desk and chucked it down the stairs. When angry at me, he grabbed me by the shirt and threw me against the wall. Countless inanimate objects in our house were obliterated by his fists, some purposefully so for their sentimental value.
Another fun aspect about my NDad, is that he's a Phd. trained psychologist and has been practicing for 30+ years. His emotional manipulation is lethal, he has all the tools.
We went NC Fall of 2021 when our family doctor was arrested for sexual assault.
Among the doctor's many victims, one was my siblings, we'll call them Jordan. When it was happening, my father didn't believe them, despite Jordan saying how "gross" the doctor was and how they didn't like how he interacted with them. When Jordan said they wanted to change doctors (at 16, 10+ years into the abuse), my NDad didn't help. He thought they were overreacting. My mother helped Jordan find a new doctor.
Ndad continued to see the doctor for years, and only stopped once the doctor was arrested and stripped of their medical license. When the news broke, he never brought it up with my Jordan. He just pretended nothing happened, until my Jordan finally confronted Ndad.
When they did, he flipped out. Ndad called Jordan an asshole. Told them "you were speaking in code, how was I supposed to know?" Screamed at Jordan to be nicer. Ndad was hurt that Jordan would suggest Ndad was a bad dad. Jordan hung up, and my Ndad never called back. Reminder: Ndad is a therapist. I don't think that meant he should have seen the signs, but shouldn't he know how to navigate afterward? Shouldn't he understand that his child's health is more important than his experience?
I heard about this, I'm very close to Jordan. When I confronted Ndad on his behavior he said, he deflected. He took some credit for things, but never the big stuff. Never anything that would suggest he acted deplorably.
I kept initiating conversation over the period of weeks, trying to understand. All I wanted was for my Ndad to say sorry. To do something human like "Hey I fucked up. Big time." But the more we talked the more he twisted the narrative. It started with the small poking of holes in Jordan's story, then slowly easing into "it was all a big misunderstanding" and "really we all fucked up, you know?" and finally: "Well you know how Jordan gets. They're very emotional."
It got to the point where I felt like I had to choose whether to believe Jordan or my Ndad. I chose Jordan. Because I know who my father is.
I took space from my Ndad. Shit was crazy in my life, I quit my job, I had just decided to move across states with my then girlfiend (now fiancé). All the while, my Ndad was sending me emails about how awesome I am, how great I am, how much of a hard worker I am, how intelligent I am, and how much he misses me and that his children are what's most important to him, and that it really sucks he doesn't have a relationship with his kids. More than anything he "wants me to heal on my terms, and prays for that healing." During this time, he kept sending emails about "interesting news articles" and books he was reading. Pretending nothing was happening.
In the winter, I told him that I was moving to another state with my fiancé, some 1,200 miles away. Nothing. All the while, he kept emailing me every two weeks or so his "interesting" news articles and updates on what he was doing in life.
That summer, I had my uhaul packed, quit my job and was about to move away from my home state, away from Ndad's state. I still hadn't received anything about it from my NDad. So I asked him, "Did you see that email where I said I was moving away?"
At first he pretended that he he never got it, so I forwarded him the email (of which he replied to with his news articles). He said, "Oh, that one!" then jumped into his love bomb routine: you're the best, you're gonna do great, you're so smart. Etc.
I was confused. How can a father who says that their children are the most important thing in the world to them, ignore the fact that their child is moving away? And if his children are the most important, why does his narrative always take precedent?
I told him: I was hurt. It hurt my feelings that I told you I was moving away and you said nothing. I was confused. It doesn't add up.
He wouldn't even respond. Just moved past it. Pretended I said nothing. Moved onto other topics, "Hey check out this podcast!"
I doubled down and asked him why he didn't respond to my question.
His words (quoted):
You are right to notice that I did not address your question.
Cautiously, respectfully, I have concerns about the strategy you have used to address your pain and experience.
It is rooted in my age, life experience, and my professional skills...
...as your father, I have a responsibility to proceed with respect and wisdom about what I address and what I delay addressing.
I told him I was taking a space in hopes that he'd reflect and understand me. He said, "Sure I understand you're confused. You should take your space."
That was two years ago. He continues to send me emails. All pretending nothing has happened. He continues to love-bomb. This week, I received an email detailing this new woman he's met, how they met, and the date of their wedding. Him and his fiance are making a list of "special people" to invite. His invite says:
Son, you and [your fiancé], of course, are two of my Special People!
It's like nothing's happened. He just wants to return to business as usual. He wants me to come to the wedding and pretend for him that everything is fine. He wants me to just forget everything that's happened. It's always about him. Always.
When I received the email, I felt nothing. Like stumbling upon a complete stranger's invite. I truly wish him happiness. I hope he has a nice wedding. I'm just not going. This feels like another tactic, another instance of him just wanting to move on. He did it in the past with "being in town" and a medical scare he had.
I don't know why I wrote this. Maybe to just vent. More than anything, the part of his narc personality that makes me crazy, and makes me second guess myself, is his ability to "move on." Makes me feel like I'm the one with the problem. It's like he's just waiting me out, hoping I'll get tired of this whole thing and accept him for who/what he is. But I can't. I can't stand the sight of him. And I can't imagine having a conversation with him.
I seldom identify with this notion, but as a man, I have 0 respect for him. Father to son, human to human, how can a man treat someone they "respect" that way? Truth is, I want nothing to do with him solely because I don't respect him.
Thank you for listening, if you've made it this far.

2024.05.15 00:11 The_Lucinator A quick primer on stealth

A quick primer on stealth
Boo
I have seen a lot of people both here on reddit and on discord with questions on stealth or misconceptions on it. As a Docent and historian at the worlds largest private aerospace museum which has a lot of documentation on the subject and a few actual stealth aircraft, which helps in understanding this topic at a deeper level than most. This is meant to be a basic overview of how reduced Radar Cross Section, (RCS) is achieved. I’m not gonna go into detail about other features that matter in stealth such as Infrared signature reduction, or electromagnetic signature reduction both of which are just as critical to a proper stealth design.
If anyone wants to do some light reading on the subject I recommend Stealth by Doug Richardson, or Stealth Aircraft by Bill Sweetman. Both can provide a basic overview of the technical aspects of RCS. If you have a Aviation Week subscription they did a couple of great primer articles on this a few years ago and are also worth reading. There are also numerous academic papers on this topic that can be found if you want something with a bit more meat on the bones. What will follow is even further simplified from those books but should at least be more accessible and easy to understand.
The first thing I want to point out is how Radar actually works as this is something that a lot of people get wrong, and it can lead to many mistaken beliefs about how stealth works. People often think of a radar return as light reflecting off a object, and while in layman's terms this explanation suffices the actual quantum mechanisms are a bit more complicated and while the description is fine for basic knowledge knowing how it works at the smallest of scales is critical for getting your RCS to actually work.
When Radar strikes a object it doesn't just bounce off, what actually happens is that the radar wave induces a current in the material it hits, this then creates waves of the same magnitude as the incoming waves. It is this re-emitted energy that is what the radar receiver actually pics up. The direction of emission is also related to the direction of the incoming energy. One important factor in this is that object with a length/diameter about one half the wavelength will create a much stronger return. This is why some objects are much more radar reflective than others. However this isn't the only thing the energy can do. Sometimes the energy is absorbed by the material struck, this is your standard Radar Absorbing Material (RAM). Another interesting feature of radar is scattering and wave travel. The energy does not have to be emitted right away, it can travel along the object it hits before being re-emitted. Sharp boundaries are more likely to emit this radiation than smooth rounded shapes. This is further compounded by scattering which is how the magnitude of the return varies by the relationship of the wavelength to the size of the object. When they are about the same size (note this means the area the wave can travel not the size of the whole plane) you get what is called resonance which greatly increases the return of the object. When the wavelength is smaller than the object then it starts to treat smaller and smaller sections independently of each other as the object. This is important and will be discussed later.
The goal of RCS takes all of these considerations and more into the equation as some objects are also transparent to radar waves and others translucent. Furthermore the ability of a material to conduct electricity is important because this can help the waves propagate further before emitting. While on the surface this may seem bad and in some cases it is, it also allows for better control of where the emissions come from. Move over the angle of the surface being emitted dictates the strength of the signal and how it changes with direction, think this like a funhouse mirror, the cone/dome of radar can be emitted in a very different direction than it came from. This is not a easy thing to calculate and is a reason that early stealth aircraft were faceted as with the sharp lines were easier to predict where and in what direction the return waves would propagate. This has ironically led to many people thinking that faceted shapes are better for RCS, when in truth the opposite is true, however as stated earlier it is easier to model. This is why flat surfaces such as single vertical tail fins, and turbine blades are such big reflectors. The goal of any RCS is to reduce the amount of stuff making its way back to the emitting aircraft and being able to know exactly how the waves will travel is paramount to a successful RCS design.
To complicate matters further as I mentioned earlier when a wavelength is smaller than the object you are trying to detect than it will treat different parts of the aircraft separately however this can be modified by increasing the distance the wave can travel in a object. This is where the most critical part of any proper RCS effort comes into play. This is one of tolerances. See gaps are the ultimate emitter of waves since they have sharp edges, and break the electrical current flowing through the material thus drastically increasing the chance of emission. This is by far the largest contributor to RCS. It has also proved the bane of countries trying to develop stealth since it is very hard to have manufacturers that can achieve such tight tolerances and it isn't something you can just steal like the shape or RAM materials. Since a plane needs to have at least some moving parts being able to make them close to one another is paramount, having seems be almost non existent on a moving part is very hard. Most stealth aircraft require special tape to bridge the gaps especially the ones between materials with different electrical properties like those around the cockpit. This tape had to be applied every mission perfectly and was (and to some degree still is) the part that added the most to the Maintenance of aircraft like the F-117 and B-2. You can see a good example of this on the photo below of the TACIT BLUE aircraft which was one of the first stealth aircraft.

those dark area's around any hatches is the tape
As you probably well know part what is important is how the aircraft is structured and shaped, What isn't talked about is that most shapes that direct radar waves in a specific direction aren't the most conducive to good aerodynamics, thankfully for early stealth pioneers there are many materials that are very transparent to radar (such as the dome over most maritime radars). These materials can be used to smooth out the airflow and create a shape conducive to good flying characteristics (or even the ability to fly at all). Below is a good example of a photo showing the intricate sub surfaces on a aircraft control surface. You will notice that the underlying sawtooth shape would probably not be very aerodynamic but with the radar transparent leading edge the surface smooths out into the familiar shape you can recognize.

A great example of how the edges are smoothed over to create a clean wing
Another part that needs to be considered is that there are a wide range of radar wavelengths that can be used. What is a good RCS shape to one wavelength might matter a lot less to another frequency. This is why most broadband stealth designs are created and coated with materials the work to harmonize as many different wavelengths of radar as possible into a more cohesive waveform. This is mostly seen in third and fourth generation designs like the F-22 and F-35. You will often note the metallic sheen their paint tends to have and this is indicative of attempts to do this.

Stealthy paint
Not stealthy paint
There is one last effect that is worth noting and that is that if a wavelength is larger than the object then a effect know as Reyleigh Scattering happens and the radar treats the aircraft as one homogeneous aircraft and shape and angles no longer really mater to the return just the size and composition of the object. This is why many countries looking to develop counter stealth technologies often look at low frequency radar as it can get around the shaping of the aircraft as well as issues with things like gaps, though the effectiveness of RAM isn't changed. Ok so you are probably asking why people don't just use long wave radar, well there are two problems while long wave radar has great range due to the energy required for a given distance is proportional to the wavelength it also comes at the price of accuracy and also needing a large antenna to pick up any receiving signals since the reception of radar signals generally requires a receiver proportional to the wavelength. Also effected is resolution which means that knowing that something is out there is easier but knowing where it is, is much harder. The lower resolution can have other unhelpful effects such as combining many small objects (like a flock of birds) into one.

Lastly as alluded to earlier there is a hierarchy to the importance of design features. In general it goes like this. By far the most important one is tolerance of the parts and elimination of gaps. Then in a distant second is RAM and other coatings. Lastly there is shape though unlike the other two this is still required by some degree to any stealthy aircraft whereas you can go without the other two but with a much more easily detectable object. It illustrate this and to show how all of this starts to fit together look below at the four aircraft's. Now rank them in order of smallest RCS to largest.......Scroll down past them for the answer.
F-22A Raptor

Su-57 Felon
F/A-18E/F Block III Super Hornet
KF-21 Boramae (fighting hawk)
Ok good here are the results
  1. F-22
  2. F/A-18 E/F Block III
  3. KF-21
  4. Su-57
so how many of you thought that the KF-21 would be 3rd, or that the Su-57 would be last? This illustrates the importance of both keeping tight tolerances and in the heavy use of RAM and other skin (and some sub-skin) treatments. Both of the planes have shaping that is conducive to having a low RCS but are not able to match the 4.5 gen Superhornet’s latest version due to the latter's better tolerance control and increased use of RAM materials. This much has been admitted by the Korean government which has admitted that the Block one KF-21 which has no RAM and looser tolerance levels than they would have wished. They do plan on incorporating those as well as including a full internal bay rather than the semi-recessed hardpoints it currently has. This shows the difficulty in mastering those two elements since the South Koreans have a lot of experience building and even decent experience designing planes. The Su-57 is a bit of the different case. Teasing out the failings of the Su-57 has taken more work given the Russian government claims that its stealth feature are some of the best in the world. However pictures of the Su-57 during construction shows a complete lack of sub-surface shaping, as well as a lack of RAM coating on many surfaces that should have it. Furthermore riveting and screw attachment of parts are massive no no’s in stealth and the Su-57 has those in droves. Furthermore the engine's turbine blades are visible through the air intake something even the KF-21 avoids limiting the ability to actually improve the RCS. It also has clearly visible gaps at locations where they would significantly contribute to increasing the RCS. Lastly the paint on the plane does not exhibit any metallic properties meaning that it likely is derived from first gen stealth paint, most likely from samples of the F-117 that was shot down in the Balkans. Based on this and knowledge that tolerances have always been a weakness of Russian manufacturing (though in the past this was deliberate as low tolerances allow for more rugged machines) thus the Su-57 probably doesn't have a ton of RCS reduction and is probably on the level of the Eurofighter in terms of RCS.

Ok so now withe the brief overview out of the way you are probably wondering how Flyout's “RCS” system fits into all of this. The answer is not at all. There is almost no connection between the games determination and reality. This can be deduced by the lack of most properties that are needed to define RCS. Some of the notable ones needed are wavelength of the radar used and given radar itself isn't in game we know that's not yet on the table, the electrical conductive properties of a aircraft's paint and skin/structures are very important to any radar return modeling and so far materials used in game are purely cosmetic. There also is no RAM material and even how that works is highly variable in real life but even a massively simplistic implementation doesn't exist so we can cross that out. There also is no setting for tolerances of parts of the plane and given that is the most important contributor to reducing RCS the lack of all these features means that the game’s RCS has no real connection with how real RCS works. Lastly, I don’t expect there to be a accurate system implemented. This is due to the massive computing power needed to model the subtle interactions of radar waves with all of these factors. As mentioned before there is a reason faceting was used heavily in early stealth aircraft despite it being less than optimal. It would take several months of using 1970’s supercomputers specially programed to just do this calculation to get a RCS model for a given aircraft shape. Even then it had to have data from real world RCS testing added to achieve this. While computing power has exponentially increased since then the ability to actively simulate a planes RCS in real time, is still well beyond anything a desktop computer can do. Especially given you would need a completely custom engine just for that part. And none of what I have said touches on other parts that can contribute to RCS like degradation of RAM coatings, or the fact that the exhaust from planes in afterburner shows up on radar (this is due to the lower density of hot air coupled with changes in the airs natural radar absorbing properties due to being at a different temperature). So for everyone out there, don't worry about or look too far into the RCS of your stealth plane be as creative as you want. That being said it is possible that IR reduction could be better simulated in game and might be a possible thing to have added. Real RCS will likely be limited to at best massively approximated stand-in values. Though there is a way to achieve a real world stealth parameter which is visual stealth, ie cammo or other tech that reduces a aircrafts visual signature. Along with some tech (like the hole material that is fictional but renders the plane truly invisible)
Implementing the \"hole\" surface material to a plane in real life
On a side tangent I want to point out that the exhaust phenomenon is something that has effected all stealth aircraft and the main reason the A-12 and SR-71 had no real RCS reduction since the massive amount of air the moved through the planes engines meant they were usually spotted at the maximum range of whatever radar they flew near. And while on the A-12 they tried to eliminate this through a combination of using a cesium fuel additive(which did absolutely nothing), and plasma stealth to shield the air intake so the fan blades would not reflect (which apparently worked ok but used a enormous amount of power, led to airflow disruptions that made the engine both less efficient, even more prone to flameouts, and caused the formation of nitric acid and other corrosive compounds the hurt the engine.). For the reasons I just showed the cesium and plasma stealth systems were disabled on the A-12 by the time it entered its brief service and not used at all on the SR-71, which instead used it’s extreme speed, altitude and what can be argued was the most extensive ECM suit ever fitted to a aircraft at the time, to ensure that any missile that got close could be jammed.
Hope this helps people.

"I'm sure you've heard about the monsters from the movies," I said. "I've seen them. They're not real."
"But, you're saying they are real! You're saying that they're like you and everyone you know is real!"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"I know you know. They look like you, and they're real, and that's why they're real," he said. "But you don't know they're real."
"I'll show you," I said. "I'll show you the monster that lives in my mind, and I'll show you the monster that lives in everyone's mind."
I made my way to the bathroom, the door wide open. I walked towards the mirror, and I was met with a beautiful, pale figure, beautiful beyond my wildest dreams. The creature, covered in dark red hair, wore a long, dirty coat, and wore a pair of black shoes with blacked out wheels. I stared at the creature for a long moment. Then, I turned around, and I saw the monster. I was met with a face with long, pointed teeth, and a long, sharp nose. It had a wide mouth, with a sharp nose, and an almost perfectly round nose. It's eyes were black, and it's mouth was covered by a long, pointed tongue. The creature looked at me, and smiled. It's eyes were blue, and it's mouth was filled with sharp teeth. Then, it turned and looked at me. The creature looked at me with its eyes, and then it turned and looked at the mirror. I looked at the monster, and then I looked at the mirror.
Then, I thought of the monster that lived in my mind.

2024.05.15 00:08 Anesthesia_STAT Spalling, painted brick... What do I do?

House is 102 years old with cedar shake siding and a brick foundation basement with the brick extending ~2-3 feet up from the ground to the siding/wood floor joists. From old Google Maps images, I see the house's brick had been painted a fire-engine red since at least 2007 or 2008--whenever it was first photographed--and that that red was painted over in gray shortly before being placed on the market in 2018. Well, the brick isn't in great shape in many spots, and I'm wondering what my options are. Do I pay a mason a buttload of money to remove the paint and then do the necessary tuckpointing? Is there anything that can be done to 1) protect what I already have (i.e., stop the decay/moisture intrusion) and 2) provide an anesthetically pleasing look (assuming the foundation in its current state is still solid and safe)? Do I do nothing and pray every night my house still stands the next day? Is there yet another option?
We applied paint stripper to a manageable area, and it certainly works, removing both the gray and red paints, but the labor to remove the paint afterward is brutal. I don't want to sandblast or pressure-wash it off with how rough a shape the mortar is in some spots (not to mention some pros who recommend not to use these methods anyway), and I really wonder if we're doing more damage than good with trying to scrape off the paint, particularly at the mortar.
The less we can financially pour into this, the better, but I also can't imagine spending this whole year stripping and scraping off paint little by little every day and teaching ourselves how to do our own tuckpointing...

Has anyone seen a user guide or anything for details on performance view?
I haven’t really pushed my truck at all yet so I’ve stayed low rpm’s (just crossing 500 miles). Maybe I’m dumb but I’m not seeing the significance of the green/red/blue lights at the top of screen…and why is the yellow dotted line at and above 3k rpm’s? Are there settings to change any of this?

2024.05.15 00:06 brightgoldsoul We Don't Know What Binding Vows Are At Play

A lot of people are upset with how binding vows in JKK are used, specifically how Sukuna seems to be the only character **shown** to be using them via the narrator's oracle speech.
But we don't actually know what binding vows are at play in the story.
I'm not trying to express that binding vows aren't being used as a narration tool to move the story forward or explain gaps but I hope with this post to talk about how the story expresses them and why it's very possible all of the characters in these chapters fighting Sukuna could be using them without our knowledge.
Why didn't / don't the main characters use binding vows during or leading up to the battle?
***We'll talk about this last
Who is the one judging the weight of a vow?
But Kenjaku said if you break a vow you just lose the thing you gained?

2024.05.15 00:03 CreatorReality Is this guy I met at a dating app redflag?

Hello, I would like some advice on this situation. I've met online a guy from a dating app and at first we clicked abit. In his bio he's sapiosexual and I like it because he discusses intellectual witty and deep topics. It was a refreshing convo because he engages in sexual topics rarely or sometimes. Which is what I like because most of the guy I talk to would talk sexual. This is where I know what a guy's intentions are.
Okay so he seems really nice. He's got lots of pics and he's attractive.
So here are some of the things that made me abit uncomfortable/icky is:
•Guy uses alot of emojis like every sentence, every chat bubble theres more than two emojis. I don't really mind this and I understand that people use this to express themselves but I'm not rlly used to it. This is neutral flag for me tho.
•Replies in different topics overlapping each other. When I reply I have to answer each topic. It overlaps. Our topics are deep and very intellectual. This is okay. Ngl I like the long messages.
But his way of dealing stuff got me alittle uncomfortable. He sends big ones. And I'm expected to reply the same amount.
•Doesn't answer to all of my replies but whines/complains why I didn't answer some of his questions.
•When I don't answer or if he doesn't like my answer, he judges me and making me feel bad and him being the victim. It's like guilt-tripping was happening in the conversation.
•Words, phrases unintentionally meant to be harmless, he takes it as an insult. Like I said, "You do you." on regarding the usage of emojis and he says I'm mean. Or when there's a Tornado happening in his place and I said, "Stay safe." He said I'm cold/careless.
Latest red flag for me: Wants me to reply to the messages he sent that I didn't reply yet. Well I didn't reply because he hadn't reply as well. And he's doing the same. The questions aren't even a big deal. He just said it's important for him to be answered. Also because he's bothered by the effort that didn't get reciprocated. I was like move on geez. Type it again. Also I tried to tell him to just say those missed messages again but he wont. He wanted me to scroll way up when we've had a whole new conversations before his unanswered messages.
..
What could be the reason behind this behavior? I really like his other vibe talking about movies and he's attractive but I feel like any moment he'll say something that says my words are cold and insulting and I don't want to feel bad. We just talked for like a week. This insistance to answer his efforts with the same efforts is weird.
Should I keep talking to him? Also we've never spoken after I told him it's ridiculous to go back up and reply. I actually went up and double read to see what he's been whining about that I should answer but they're just topics that aren't really relevant like pet peeves or favorite stuff. I mean if he wants to really know then ask again? 🤷‍♀️ Also I deduced that there's like he's displaying a strong desire for validation and control in the conversation. That's redflag?

2024.05.15 00:03 Manifester Career Pivot due to illness- Is this possible

A few months ago I received a diagnosis that halted my career and the best option for me is to make money working from home. Since I found this out I’ve been studying day trading and looking into various instruments and really like the perks of futures.
I came into this without having the expectation I could do this for my main income. However, after hundreds of hours of research and paper trading, the thought of trying to do it full time seams possible. Before this I had little experience studying markets. Threw some money into stocks here or there, but did not have much to invest.
I mostly learned through YouTube. I stayed away from the cringe gurus and stuck to the hard chart analysis and looking at charts until my eyes felt sore. I settled on MNQ and started paper trading with TradingView. I’ve mimicked the conditions as if I was trading for real the best I could. $10,000, risking 2% per trade, each trade starting with 5 micro contracts.
Over the past weeks I profited 3-4k on 5 different 10k paper trading accounts this is after subtracting what would be tradovates contract fees. I gravitated towards scalping with my trades lasting anywhere from 1-45 minutes with most being around 3-5 minutes, looking at a 1min chart. I mostly trade during NY AM, but I have traded overnight for more practice. I averaged about 20ish trades a day. I will admit that when I feel confident I will increase contract size to 10-15 and adjust stop loss to 3-4%. This does not happen that often, but I know this is generally considered a bad habit. I stop trading if I lose $500 which only happened a few times. I monitor trades closely and will exit well before target profit / stop loss if I start to feel less confident. I do let some winners run. I am constantly moving TP/SL during the duration of the trade and will sometimes add contracts. I have news alerts and a trading calendar.
I use a variety of things like S/R, volume, CCI, DOM, price action stuff. I started by just looking at MNQ charts in real time an unhealthy amount mostly starting before NY open and slowly I started to get a feel for how it moves (sometimes).
The fact is I know I am a noob. I write this for seasoned traders that may be generous enough to give their insight. Is it too early to start a real account? Is it just beginners luck or is this how it starts?
I’m really worried about a few things. Im eager to start but cautious. How different are orders being filled for 5-15 micros on MNQ compared to paper trading? Especially with the big jumps on MNQ. Could I get away with continuing to use trading view integrated with tradovate? Is there lag? Am I showing any red flags? Any tips? Gosh it all makes me nervous yet so excited.

2024.05.15 00:00 Obsequium_Minaris Ballistic Coefficient - Chapter 11

First / Previous / Royal Road / Patreon (Read 12 Chapters Ahead)

When dawn broke, the two of them set off again, once more heading north. Pale had made sure to call down another pod once the sun had risen, this one full of winter gear for the two of them – thermal jackets to keep them warm, but more importantly, snow-print camouflage covers for them to throw over themselves if they needed to creep around at night.
"What's the point of this stuff?" Kayla asked as she threw one of the snow-colored smocks over herself, pausing only to tug at it in a few places.
"Makes it harder for them to spot us," Pale explained. "Of course, some degree of combat is inevitable, but that's no reason to not avoid it if we can do so."
Pale zipped up her winter jacket, then reached for her shotgun, topping it off with fresh shells of buckshot. Kayla watched with fascination as Pale slid red-colored shell after red-colored shell into her weapon's magazine tube, finally furrowing her brow in confusion.
"How does it work?"
"Hm?" Pale asked, looking over to her. "You mean my weapons?"
"Yes. I thought you said your people couldn't use magic?"
"We can't. This is pure science." She held up a shotgun shell for emphasis. "To put it simply, my weapon works by setting off a chain reaction of burning chemicals and small explosions, which forces metal projectiles down a carefully-shaped and machined piece of metal at a very high rate of speed."
"But… it's so small. Why does it do so much damage?"
"Because of something called physics. Kinetic energy is determined by a combination of mass and velocity, but between the two, velocity has a much more profound impact on the energy itself. Essentially, you want to make a projectile more powerful? Make it go faster rather than just make it heavier."
Kayla hesitated. "My head's already starting to spin…"
"I will spare you any further explanation, then." Pale slung her weapon across her front, then did a quick gear check to make sure everything was stowed where it needed to be. Once that was done, she nodded over to Kayla. "Lead the way."
The two of them took off at a brisk march through the plains. Snow had started to fall as they had woken up, covering the area in a thin sheet of white that crunched underfoot with every step taken. Neither girl felt the effects of the elements thanks to their new winter gear, but it did make traversing through the plains a bit more difficult, not to mention that as the snow continued to fall, their movement would only be more impeded with time.
And just as well, there was the matter of the tracks they were leaving behind as they walked. Pale wasn't quite sure how to deal with those, at least not yet, but they would cross that particular bridge when they came to it.
As they walked, Pale noticed Kayla had become oddly silent. She blinked, then turned towards her, only to find her staring off into space as they advanced, watching the snow fall down on the terrain below. Pale cleared her throat, and Kayla jumped a bit before turning to face her.
"Yes?"
"Are you feeling okay?" Pale bluntly asked.
"Why do you ask?"
"Because you look awful. Is it the nightmares again?"
Kayla bit her lip, but ultimately nodded. "...Yeah, it is."
Pale's brow furrowed. Unfortunately for both of them, she was no psychologist. It was clear Kayla was going through some sort of trauma regarding the events of the past few days, and while Pale had archives of books related to the subject stored in her data banks, even she knew better than to go poking around in someone's head.
The human brain may have been mapped, but there were still things about it that even her creators didn't quite understand, and the nature of mental illness was one of them. She had already tried to logic Kayla out of whatever mental hole she'd fallen into, and that clearly hadn't worked. No, there was something deeper going on with her, something that Pale didn't understand.
Part of her wished Evie was still here, if only because she seemed to get it a lot better than Pale could.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Pale offered.
"Do you think that will help?"
"Has to be better than letting it fester like this. But if you're not willing, I won't push the issue."
Kayla shook her head. "It's just… I don't know how people do it. I still feel like I'm gonna vomit whenever I see a dead body lying on the ground. How you and Evie are able to not only keep going after that but add more to the pile is… frightening."
"Death is inherently frightening for everyone, even me."
"Truly?" Kayla asked, surprised. "You're afraid of death?"
"Yes, in multiple different ways." Pale gestured to herself. "This body, for one – I worry about losing it, because if that happens, I am going to be stuck floating listlessly through space, stuck in Sjel's orbit until my systems finally burn themselves out after several million years. Then my consciousness will fade away into nothingness, and there will be no remnant of me left behind aside from a shattered husk of a warship. Then again, perhaps that is the fate of every warship – the oceans back on my creators' home planet are, after all, filled with the dessicated husks of once-proud ships of war, many still sealed up like time capsules. I must admit, it would be poetic if I were to join them."
"No, it wouldn't," Kayla countered. "It'd be sad, Pale. You'd just float endlessly through space for the rest of time."
"Not quite. After a few billion years, this solar system's sun would burn out and turn into a supernova, wiping any trace of it from the face of the galaxy. But I understand what you're saying. My point, however, is that death is profound for everyone, even me."
"Why wouldn't it be profound for you?"
"Because I am not alive."
"Yes, you are."
Pale's brow furrowed. "I am not an organic person."
Wordlessly, Kayla reached out and poked her in the shoulder. "Weird, because you certainly feel organic."
"Not what I meant. I was created in a laboratory."
"So? Do you have any idea how many people were created from a drunken romp between an adventurer and a tavern wench? Is being made in a laboratory, whatever that means, really any more inauthentic than a loveless one-night stand that happened to lead to a baby?"
Pale opened her mouth, but Kayla beat her to the punch. "I don't understand why you keep trying to make this point. You are a person, Pale, and-"
"I cannot be a person," Pale growled. "That was not the purpose I was created for. And besides, this conversation isn't about me, it's about you. Stop trying to change the subject."
Kayla grunted, then crossed her arms as she walked. "Fine. You want to talk about what's bothering me? Now you know. I hate the knowledge that what I'm doing is leading to people being hurt and killed. I hate that Evie decided to help us, and made herself and her caravan a target as a result. And most importantly, I hate that it's all so necessary, because if we don't do this, I'll never see my father again. There, happy now?" Kayla crossed her arms, then let out a tired sigh. "I want to go home, but I can't even do that – not only is my father still missing, but my home is gone. I have nothing to go back to. Any friends I had are dead now..."
Kayla let out a small sniffle, and Pale hesitated before reaching out and resting a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm sorry," she said. "I didn't mean to make you feel like this. I understand that you're going through a lot, I just wish there was more I could do to help."
"You're here," Kayla insisted. "And you're helping me get my father back. That's more than enough. The rest… I'll deal with that on my own for now, I guess."
"Very well. But if you need someone to vent to, I'm here."
Kayla sniffled again, but gave her a thin, grateful smile. "Thank you."
Pale let her hand fall off Kayla's shoulder, and Kayla took a breath to calm herself before they continued on.

They walked for several more hours, the snow intensifying all around them before it finally came to be too much. By this time, the plains had given way to hills and rocky mountains capped with snow. Pale paused to examine their surroundings as they climbed a hill, looking for shelter.
"We must be getting farther north," she surmised. "The weather is becoming unrecognizable from how it was back in your village."
"You're right about that," Kayla grunted as she scrambled over some rocks. "Shouldn't be much longer now until we get to the sea. How we're going to cross without a boat, though… I suppose we'll have to figure that out on our own."
Pale nodded. "I am surprised that we haven't run into any opposition yet."
"I've had us staying away from the nearby towns on purpose. I figured that if we were going to run into anyone hostile, it'd be there."
"Smart move," Pale complimented. "And I take it that keeping us out in the open fields for as long as possible was part of that, too? Good thinking."
"Thanks," Kayla replied. She looked around the mountain, her gaze finally landing on an outcropping of rocks. "I think I see a cave over there. Think it'd make for good shelter for a night?"
"It'd be better than staying out in the open. Come on, I'll lead the way this time."

A short while later, both girls were sprawled out inside the cave, their outer layers of clothing hung up on some nearby rocks to air dry. Their thermal under layers kept them warm, as did a small fire Kayla had managed to start using her magic. They both sat huddled around the fire, a set of military rations perched in their laps.
"It'll be hot, so be careful when you open it," Pale warned. "The flameless ration heater included in each may use water to function, but trust me, the food will come out hot despite that."
"What'd you say this one was, again?" Kayla asked, examining the bag.
"Chicken and rice bowl. It should be a lot better than the earlier emergency ration bar I gave you – less artificial, at least – and unlike that one, you can eat this one in one sitting without any ill effects."
Kayla perked up a bit at that. "That sounds nice…"
They both fell silent after that, the only noise filling the cave being the crackling of the fire. Finally, Kayla broke the silence.
"
I just want you to know… I'm glad you're here with me," she said softly. "And not just because you're helping me find my father, either. You're a good person, Pale."
"I am-"
"I know, I know – you don't agree with being called a person. But you are."
Pale's brow furrowed. "No offense, but perhaps this is a difference of culture. How does one define a person on this world?"
"A person is anyone who has a sjel," Kayla answered.
"Then I do not fit the definition."
"Everyone has a sjel, Pale," Kayla softly emphasized. "Even you. Even if you can't use magic, I know you've still got one. And I'll do whatever it takes to make you realize that."
Again, silence fell over the two of them. It didn't last, however – from outside, Pale heard the unmistakable sound of far-away voices, and sat up straight. Judging from how Kayla's wolf ears perked up, she'd heard them, too.
"Look alive," Pale said, putting her ration aside and reaching for her shotgun.
"I think we're about to have company."

Special thanks to my good friend and co-writer, Ickbard for the help with writing this story.

2024.05.14 23:56 Joker0091 REPOST: Excel Handicap Spreadsheet

This is a spreadsheet that will help calculate your handicap. Our group is full of nerds and we put this together for the guys who don't have an official GHIN when we play together. It's not perfect, I've seen some numbers off by .1 at the most in some spots when comparing it to the official GHIN. It's close enough for almost everyone.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yIOAQePiGpaGFxUe6qpqj-cXSGx4IX4O/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=103516283981614746959&rtpof=true&sd=true
You can't edit the sheet directly, but all you need to do is "Make a copy" to your Google Drive and you'll be able to edit. Or you can download it.
Enter the Date, Course, Score, Slope, and Rating. It will auto calculate the Differential, Handicap, AVG20 (average score of the 20 you enter), and AVG8 (average score of your 8 used scores). DON'T EDIT ANYTHING IN RED, BLUE, OR GREEN. Those are the formulas.
This is set up to auto calculate if you have 20 scores. If you have less than 20, It won't calculate it correctly automatically. You can use this link to figure out how to calculate it manually or adjust the formula if you have less than 20 scores: https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/handicapping/roh/Content/rules/5%202%20Calculation%20of%20a%20Handicap%20Index.htm
At the bottom is a calculator to figure out your score/slope/rating/differential for combined 9 hole rounds. Just enter the two 9 hole scores and it will give you the combined 18 hole score info in the blue boxes.
There is also a link to the USGA Course Slope and Rating Database for you to look up your course info. This is helpful to find the 9 hole slope/ratings since not every course has them on the scorecard.

2024.05.14 23:56 TheChessWar Purple Guy Moveset

Purple Guy MOVESET
Lightweight with 2 jumps (the jumps would just have afton raise elevation, no animation)
Gimmick
More so a visual thing but afton would be a 2d sprite like mr game and watch. Except for all of his moves where he is springtrap or a springtrap variant which would use a 3d model. The exception is spring bonnie which would stay 2d Also when he crouches he will turn into a 2d spring bonnie collapsed on the floor
Basic Attacks
Jab: Disassemble (Afton swing one arm forward before swinging the other)
Basic 2 hit Jab
(Aftons famous sprite)
Dash: Foxy Go Go (Afton dawns a foxy mask and jumps forward)
Pretty strong Damage
(Michael Scaring his brother and Withered Foxy Jump Scare)
Side Tilt: Run (Both his arms are put forward as he runs forward)
Does Good knockback but mid damage
(When he ran into the suit)
Up tilt: Fear (Afton punches his arm above him)
Does Great Knockback but no damage
(Running away from the spirits)
Down Tilt: Spirit (a spirit appears in front of afton)
Does minor damage but can cause a stun
(Spirts causing aftons springtrap)
Side Smash: Jumpscare (Afton turns into springtrap and walks forward)
Does A lot of damage and has a chance to stun
(Springtrap jumpscare fnaf 3)
Up Smash: Dark Trap (Afton Turns into spring trap as he leans back before leaning forward back to standing position)
Does Great Damage but really slow
(Dark Springtrap aka sister location springtrap cutscene)
Down Smash: Springtrapped (Afton freaks out in the suit (still 2d) )
Does Great Damage to both afton and the opponent. But also can bury
(Aftons death)
Aerials
Neutral Air: Activation (Spring bonnie extends all of their limbs)
Does Great Damage to afton and his foe. And also great knockback to the foe
(First thing to happen when Aftons springlocked)
F Air: World Slash(Afton smashes the below area)
Does Great damage and can spike.
(Fnaf world attack)
B Air: First Spring (As spring bonnie punches down behind him)
Does Great damage and can spike
(First spring bonnie appearance)
Up Air: Dark Return (Afton Turns into spring trap as he leans back before leaning forward back to standing position)
Does Great Damage but really slow
(Dark Springtrap aka sister location springtrap cutscene)
Down Air: Panic (Afton shakes the feet below him)
Hits great damage and can spike. Also has a chance to use the springtrap model which would just be visual
(When burntrap got kidnapped. And the panic animation shared between afton and CC)
Grabs
Grab: Shadow freddy appears the foe as both Hold the opponent up
(Loosely based on the events before the bite of 83 and the events in the follow me games)
Pummel: Same thing as his jab
F Throw: Shadow freddy walks forward where the opponent follows them before shadow freddy disappears and william runs up and punches the foe twice
(the events in the follow me games)
B Throw: Shadow freddy walks behind afton where the opponent follows them before shadow freddy disappears and william runs up and punches the foe twice
(the events in the follow me games)
Up Throw: Uppercut
(smash original)
Down Throw: Puts opponent in suit (doesn’t do any damage but when the throw is finished it causes the foe to still be wearing the suit for 15 seconds which while making them heavier also makes them incredibly slow and jumps go half as far)
Specials
Neutral Special: Ventilation
Springtrap enters a vent in the ground. Acts Like meta knights peek a boo with some minor differences. First after a random amount of time the opponent will become poisoned and lightweight. After all theres a thing in vents its harder to get clean air. After another amount of random time a random phantom animatronic will appear and stalk the opponent. If it hits the opponent they will become dizzy. Sounds broken right. Well while in the vents will also takes damage. And after a random amount of time will be bouted out at a random part of the stage with the dizzy effect. Could happen before or after a phantom spawns but will always happen after the light wight poison. So it’s a very risk and reward move how much damage do you wanna take, the opponent is light do i strike now or risk getting booted for the phantom. Also can only move horizontally and puts you in free fall if existed in the air
Side Special: Plushtrap
Plushtrap appears in front of Afton and chases the nearest foe. Only one plushtrap can be on screen per afton player at a time. When it manages to hit a foe it act like a stronger pikmin that will take 5 seconds to disappear where it takes no time to spawn another one. If After 30 seconds the plushtrap never hits someone it will naturally disappear where it takes 15 seconds to spawn another one. And it will freeze for 2 seconds if hit by a projectile. Finally it can’t fall off cliffs nor can it jump so it will never be in the air. unless spawned in the where it acts like a Pikmin spawned in the air. Also wouldn’t change anything mechanically but it has a 1/10 chance to summon a bunny from princess quest. Specifically the flying ones that appear in the beginning. And a 1/50 chance to summon vanny. Again changes nothing except visual
Up Special: Malware
Afton turns into springtrap as a tentacle comes out of his body. You can point to which direction you want the tentacle to appear. It acts as a basic tether recovery with one caveat. If it hits a foe they will have a 25% chance to become infected. When infected your directions reverse and out of every 16 attacks 1 of them will not go through and leave you vulnerable. You will be infected for sixteen second before you are cured. Now to balance it out if the attack is used and doesn’t connect to a stage or player there will be heavy end lag and will put you in free fall if used in the air. So always be careful when using this move
Down Special: Bite of 83
As Springtrap Will Bites Down. acts exactly like wario's neutral special.
Final Smash: Missing Character incident
A cinematic final smash. The smash starts with afton throwing a rainbow knife as a refrence to the move slasher in Fnaf World. Any one hit by the rainbow knife has a 1/10 chance to instantly lose stock. But if that one in ten chance fails they enter the cinematic. It shows the character at a birthday party before they’re lured away by a 3d model for spring bonnie.it then cuts to black before showing the character trapped in a golden freddy suit. Racking up tons of damage but no knockback. However if the opponents damage goes over 100% it is an instant stock loss
Cosmetics + Gimmicks
Every costume has both a different color for will and a different springtrap variant. And you can pick which springtrap variant you want with whatever afton you want. So you could have alt 3 afton with an alt 7 springtrap.
Costumes
Pure Purple - Springtrap
Pure Orange (Midnight Motorist) - Scraptrap
Pure Pink (Pink guy theory (no i don’t believe it just felt like it should be referenced) ) - Vanny
Pure Blue (Phone Guy) - Glitchtrap
Pure Red (Old man consequences) - Frost Springtrap (yes i know only plushtrap has a skin in special delivery but creative liberties)
Pure Yellow (Prize King And Sun) - Toxic Springtrap
Pure Bluish Grey (Moon) - Burntrap
Black body with white stripes and white face (Puppet) - Flaming Springtrap
Stage Entrance: Will comes in on a car like captain falcons
Taunts
Iconic Save Them Sprite
Eats pizza
Pose he takes in fruit maze
Victory Animations
Springtrap stands in the middle of a bunch of masks with a light in there eyes
The puppet lays on the floor as a car stands parked in the background
Nothing appears on screen before springtrap jumps the screen
(If you win the match with the final smash it show william dancing in the pizzeria)

2024.05.14 23:54 paulrudder Driving question — was I in the wrong here?

I’m on the east coast and there’s a road in my city where there are two lanes, one to turn left at a light and one to continue straight through intersection. The left lane starts a good ways back before the intersection and is always virtually empty, whereas during rush hour the straight lane backs up and can take 5 minutes to get through.
People constantly abuse the turning lane to try to cut ahead of cars who are waiting to go straight - it happens every day on my commute home. They’ll zoom up the left lane and then last second cut over to go straight and basically cut ahead of everyone who abided by the law and waited in the proper lane.
Today I had been waiting patiently for my turn through the intersection and was finally a couple cars in front of the red light — when sure enough some jerk comes flying up in the left lane, cutting off probably 40-50 cars behind me, and then stops right behind me and throws on his blinker and starts trying to squeeze in behind me.
The car behind me didn’t pull forward to close the gap and I was honestly just really bothered by it happening, so I put my car in reverse and began to back up to close the gap. The vehicle trying to cut everyone off began honking at me — not sure if it was to basically let me know they were there or if they were afraid I was going to reverse into them or what (I did kind of angle myself a bit to prevent them from moving forward so maybe they thought I was going to hit them, but I could see my camera and there was plenty of space). After a couple seconds I thought better of it as I didn’t want anything to happen - like this person getting out of their car and starting a fight - so I pulled forward again.
Just curious… would doing something like this be considered instigating road rage (if it had escalated), since I had tried to close the gap and prevent him from cutting everyone off, or would this guy have been in the wrong no matter what since he was making an illegal maneuver to try to cut other vehicles off and abusing a turning lane? I feel like it has to be illegal to deliberately do that, right? It was clearly not a mistake - he knew what he was doing.
People do it every day and I really don’t get why cops don’t just sit there and ticket people because it’s just not fair to the people who are abiding by the road rules and actually waiting their turn to get through the intersection. I am not typically an aggressive person or aggressive driver but I guess I just had a moment where I decided to be a little passive aggressive to prove a point and maybe I was in the wrong to do so, but just curious what you guys think? Either legally or morally, lol.
