I know it's not really possible to convert raw scores on practice tests to the real thing but I'm curious your thoughts. Today I got 103/132 questions correct on a practice test. Do you think this would result in a passing score?

This is actually good content per se, yet PeopleCerts asinine test policies ruin the whole experience.
For studying: I highly recommend just reading through the PeopleCert training and taking the CyberVista practice exams. You will “fail” the CyberVista exams, however you only need to get 26 questions right. There’s no reward for doing any better than that.
Should you unfortunately fail like I did, the course instructors are very pressed about you getting above an 85% on a CyberVista exam.
Pro Tip: Go ahead and pay the $100 for the Take2 exam unless you’re consistently getting 27+ right on CyberVista. The exam was about 90% similar the second time around or I’m incredibly lucky to receive the same test data set.

2024.05.14 22:47 RobieWan Announcement: Harassment filter

Hi everyone,
Reddit has been frequently "suggesting" we turn on a new "Harassment filter" they ave been testing, as apparently our sub has a lot of comments that could be considered harassing. Here is how they said it:
We’re reaching out to you because you moderate a community that could benefit from the Harassment Filter; in other words, we detected a significant amount of content that may be considered harassing in your community.
I haven't enabled it. This is a shitposting satirical sub, so I expect some posts that could be considered harassing, even though they aren't.
I received the following today:
You may remember a post on modnews that introduced a Harassment filter—we’re reaching out again to let you know this filter will be turned on in a few days in your community.
They say it will be set to low. There is a form I can fill out to opt out of it but I'm not going to. They're likely to force it soon, whether I opt shittyaskflying out of it or not.
You may see an uptick in number of posts removed. I have no idea how this new filter works, what it does, if it communicates, or anything. Practically no information has been given.
So you all know, I don't go trolling the sub looking for shit. I don't have the time, energy, personal bandwidth, or desire to. I rely mostly on user reports.
You can always send a mail to the sub if you think a post of yours got caught, I'll see what I can see. Again, remember I have no idea if I'll have any visibility into this, so if I can't see anything, don't shoot the messengar.
Any questions on this, I'll direct you to Reddit's admins.

2024.05.14 22:44 Prime_North How to apply PM best practices when our “products” depend on 3rd party vendors.

Our company (community bank with 500 employees) relies on vendors to supply customer-facing technology products - we obviously can choose which vendors to use and have some influence over their product roadmap but nothing like having an engineering team in house.
We’re building a “product” function because we know we need to better understand our customers and bring solutions to market that meet their needs. Previously product basically sat within sales for each division, and they’re very different. I think the closest thing to describe my new role is product leader, and recently I got one product manager (repurposed from another role) and have an opening for another with more PM experience, so we’re building the team. I help write and adjust our business strategy with executives, do industry/market research, talk to customers and internal stakeholders, evaluate and recommend new vendors, analyze usage data, etc. I have enough credibility in the company to try new things and have cover above me for really whatever shifts we need to make - it’s a great organizational culture so not a lot of worries there.
The last 9 months since I took on this expanded role I’ve immersed myself in PM educational content - Lenny’s, Product Compass, The Mom Test, Transformed, Continuous Discovery Habits, etc. I know it’s not all applicable because we aren’t a true product company, don’t have the standard product trio, etc. BUT I think there are several concepts that can still be beneficial for a company like ours.
Long way of asking, has anyone had success implementing some modern product principles/practices in a more legacy organization? What was most effective and what’s not worth trying? We will likely continue to use vendors for our customer- facing technology for the foreseeable future. At the end of the day we’re just trying to become more customer-focused and “build” solutions that solve real problems for our current/future customers. Any input is welcome - thanks!

2024.05.14 22:44 freddiebenson4ever For those who took the test without logic games, how long did you study?

The logic games were the worst for me when I started doing practice questions but luckily they’ve been removed from the test, I found out! I’m good at the other sections.
So, for those who took it without that section, how long did you study? I’m considering taking it with 3 months of studying on weekends and lunch breaks (1-4 hours per week). Then retake it 2 months later.

2024.05.14 22:40 adamr_z How We Acquired Our First 50 Users for the consumer app FitHero.ai

Hey fellow entrepreneurs!
My co-founder and I were recently successful in acquiring 50 people to the private beta of our new consumer fitness/gaming app FitHero.ai so I figured I'd share what worked for us in case it helps others.
First, a little background...
The idea for FitHero.ai was born out of a desire to apply gamified techniques to the health and fitness journey.
Fitness can often feel like a grind, with progress taking time to become visible. We wanted to create an app that helps users see and feel improvements, even when they’re not immediately noticeable in real life.
Additionally, we wanted to leverage AI to provide a unique, interactive experience that benefits users’ fitness journeys.
I remember one day at the gym, feeling frustrated with my progress, and thinking, "There has to be a way to make this more fun and engaging."
That's when the idea of battling AI-driven villains as part of a fitness routine really clicked for me.
Actionable Step: Define Your Inspiration and Goal
Defining Our Target Audience
As someone deeply involved in health and fitness, with notable achievements in CrossFit and a lifelong passion for gaming, I built FitHero.ai for people like me.
This approach ensured that the app met the needs of our initial user base effectively. I figured if it was something I would use and enjoy, there would be others out there just like me.
For consumer-focused startups, especially those being bootstrapped, I believe it’s essential for the founders to be the target audience. It allows you to move MUCH quicker and not be overly concerned with market research.
I tested this assumption by talking to friends at the gym and fellow gamers, asking if they would find an app like this useful and fun.
Actionable Step: Know Your Target Audience
Early Marketing and User Acquisition
Initially, we needed to validate that the primary engagement loop was, well engaging 🙂.
We started by reaching out to friends in various fitness communities who also had an interest in gaming - literally DMing them and asking them to give our alpha a shot. Here was one of the initial messages:
Yo D! Would love your help in Alpha testing FitHero.ai. Here's the link to download the app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fithero-ai/id6449763830
The invite code is "alpha" (all lower case)
The alpha will last 2 weeks and have two surveys to fill out. If you can hang with the app and fill out both surveys will hook you up with a free shirt
The alpha is SUPER limited in features. Basically we're testing:
  • Do people "get it" (kind like D&D it's a little complicated)
  • What bugs exist?
  • Is the primary game-play loop enjoyable? (battling villains, influenced by your exercise)
This approach helped us secure the first 15 to 20 users.
To hit our goal of 50 for our beta, we capitalized on the timing by releasing it at the beginning of the year (new years resolutions and whatnot), leveraging my social media presence to invite more people to try the app.
The timing, coupled with the growing interest in AI, helped us reach our goal of 50 users.
I vividly remember posting about our private beta on Facebook, hoping for a few responses, and waking up to dozens of messages from people eager to try it out. It was a thrilling moment that showed me there was real interest in what we were building.
Actionable Step: Validate with Friends and Community
Effective Strategies and Platforms
One effective strategy was limiting the number of users who could join the private beta, creating a sense of urgency.
Facebook was the primary platform for user acquisition, given its algorithm and the personal connection it offers.
We also created a Facebook group for FitHero.ai, which allowed us to collect feedback, share updates, and engage with users in a private community. This approach fostered a sense of exclusivity and community among early adopters.
People love to feel like they're part of something exclusive, and this really drove engagement.
Actionable Step: Leverage Timing and Social Media
Engaging with Early Users
Engaging with early users primarily through the Facebook group was highly effective for us.
In particular, polls were excellent ways of gathering valuable feedback. Most posts to the group didn't get a ton of engagement, but when I posted a poll, it was easy for people to give feedback.
Actionable Step: Utilize Social Media Groups
Acquiring your first 50 users can definitely be challenging, but through a combination of timing, value-proposition and putting ourselves out there, we were able to do it and gather great feedback along the way.
Hopefully this helps some of you get your initial users!

2024.05.14 22:37 bena_04 New diagnosis

Hi all!
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I’ve been reading a lot here and found it very encouraging and wanted to share my story. I’m 37F and successful in my career. I spent a lot of time on my post secondary education, flunked out once at 18 and started again at 20. Did well in elementary and high school, A & B honor roll. I didn’t have a lot of classes I had to “try” really hard at, except math. I went on to get an associates in liberal arts, a practical nursing degree (sat for boards & passed first attempt) registered nursing associates (also sat for boards & passed first attempt) and then a bachelors in nursing. I’ve also worked my way into a supervisor position in my organization over the last 10 years.
My second child within 18 months of my first, and then taking a promotion within 9 months of his birth sent me into a tailspin which finally made me start seeking out evaluation (after about 2 years of treading water).
I initially was treated for anxiety with buspar starting a few months ago. It helped but wasn’t really the ticket. So, I had the TOVA test a few weeks ago. Last Monday, I received my results. Moderate to severe ADHD. With the psychiatrist, I was able to connect a lot of dots about myself, my learning style, etc. It’s been very overwhelming to process.
I just picked up my first two weeks of Adderal XR and I’m going to start tomorrow! I’m looking forward to figuring this out and navigating my personal and professional life going forward.

2024.05.14 22:27 Minimalist19 Advice on what is necessary/recommended for inspection

Hello, I'm looking to buy a house and I got the below from the inspection company that my realtor is reocmmending. This is the second home I've bought and the first home it was much more straight forward as it was a slightly newer build and was a townhouse. Which of the below options make sense given the house details below:
Home Details:
Located in Albany, OR

Type & style

Bedrooms & bathrooms

Material information

Condition

Flooring

Heating

Cooling

Other construction

"Well-maintained with new roof & triple-paned windows. Tastefully updated with LVP flooring in kitchen, dining, hall and bath, new carpets in bedrooms, new kitchen lighting, new appliances, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and water heater."
\***Seller did disclose owner prior to them had electrical fire damage**\**
The house is very well maintained and looks like whoever has been living there the last 10 years has taken a lot of effort to ensure the place is practically spotless for a house built in 1979
BELOW ARE THE OPTIONS FROM THE INSPECTION COMPANY
The Premium Package
The Premium Package is our most popular choice, the most thorough inspection, and the best value for your dollar. This inspection includes a checklist that will encompass the entire home inspection process (i.e. structure and foundation; a representative sample of windows, doors, lights, and receptacles; moisture detection; attic and crawlspace areas; roof, gutters, and drainage; walls, floors, and ceilings; porches and decks; plumbing systems and fixtures in kitchens, baths, and laundries; electrical sytems and breaker panels; HVAC; built-in appliances; and a general check for wood destroying organisms*). Everything is compiled for you on-site so that when we are done, you have all the information provided in a printed report which is computer-generated with color photos and presented to you in a professional binder. Inside the binder, you will find a seasonal maintenance checklist, a cost guide for remodeling and repairs, and a filing system to keep track of receipts. Since Pillar To Post is the largest home inspection company in North America, we have alliances with many vendors on services you may need as a homeowner. In addition, we use infrared technology that allows us to check the electrical system to detect overheating circuit wires and breakers and for any hidden water leaks that would not normally be seen by the naked eye. Also included is a Rodent Inspection, Visual Summary with Measured Floor Plans, and a Centriq Report.
Infrared Scan - Using the most technologically advanced tools available allows us to detect moisture in wet areas of the home (i.e. kitchens and bathrooms and around windows and doors) that is invisible to the human eye. The use of these tools also enables us to locate areas throughout the home or structure that have overheating or malfunctioning electrical components (i.e. breakers and electrical panels). This work can make a critical difference during the home inspection process.
Centriq Report - During your inspection, we will capture the information of up to five major home appliances and provide you with a computerized report on any safety recalls for those appliances using the Centriq app. Centriq is a home inventory and maintenance platform designed to monitor for appliance recalls and track user manuals, parts, and support videos for your home. During the inspection, the inspector will add appliances and systems from the home into the Centriq app, and you will receive a Centriq recall report via e-mail within 48 hours. You will also have the option of adding items to the app in the future.
Rodent Inspection - In addition to our high quality, comprehensive home inspection which will highlight past or present infestation, we will also investigate and report on conditions in the home that are conducive to rodent activity so that you may be pre-emptive in the containment and control of these potential issues before a problem occurs. This includes checking for points of entry and signs of nesting, especially in the crawlspace of the home.
PTP360 - During our inspection, we will construct an interactive virtual tour that will provide you with 360° visuals of your future home. It will include thumbnails with comments and photos from your inspection report in relation to their location within the home. This feature also includes measured floor plans to aid you in any future projects or home planning.
Lifetime Maintenance Advisory Service - Following our inspection, and your purchase of the home, we will provide advice and answer your questions on home maintenance, the inspection report, and other home-related topics for as long as you own the home. Feel free to give us a call anytime! We are happy to continue our service to you.
Enhanced Customer Service Commitment - Our aim is to provide you with quality reporting and excellent customer care. Our office staff are available to direct your questions and concerns should the occasion arise, and our inspectors have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to assist you with all of your inspection needs. If you are not satisfied with our service, we will pay another inspection company of your choice to inspect your home again up to the value of your investment with our company.
*During each of our inspections, we do a general check for Wood Destroying Organisms (i.e. carpenter ants, termites, and wood-boring beetles) as well as evidence of dry rot. We do not, however, list the specific insects observed without the purchase of a WDO report. This is due to Oregon's home inspection laws regarding the reporting of Pest & Dry Rot information, sometimes required by lenders. If you do not need your report to specifically state which insects are or are not observed at the time of inspection, you may not need to add the WDO report to your inspection package. Please check with your loan officer before considering this add-on option and let us know if we can provide you with any further clarification.
The cost of this package is $ 742.35 You will also receive a 15% discount on any Added Service options.

The Prestige Package
This package provides you with additional peace of mind. It includes everything that comes with the Premium Package, as well as an air-mold anaylsis and a screen of the home for common allergens (i.e. cat, dog, cockroach, and dust mites), benefiting those who suffer from allergies, asthma, or immune deficiencies. It uses the most up-to-date technology to determine potential health risks in those areas and recommendations for further action.
Healthy Home Package - Houses safeguard the lives of the people who live in them. Increasingly so, it is known that poor air quality, including allergens, can pose potential health risks if not detected and addressed. Indeed, if someone in your home suffers from allergies, asthma, chronic sinus issues, or other breathing disorders, poor air quality becomes critical to their love and enjoyment of the home. In addition, mold can eventually cause structural damage to your home.
The Pillar To Post Healthy Home Package provides: -An air quality sampling to test for molds and allergens that may be present in the home, identified and verified through a certified third-party laboratory analysis. -An easy-to-read report that helps you understand what was found and a recommended course of action to follow. -The knowledge of what you need to do to protect your investment and, at the same time, make your home a healthier place for you and your family to live.
Please keep in mind that the results of the mold and allergen tests take 5-7 business days to get back to us. We will provide you with those reports as soon as they are available.
The cost of the healthy home package is $ 1388.75 You would also get a 30% discount of any Added Service options.

The Plus Package
This package is our third offering and the most basic whole house inspection we provide. It is just like the Premium inspection but without the extras(Infrared Technology, Rodent Inspection, Visual Summary with Measured Floor Plans, and Centriq Report).
Selecting this package does not provide any discounts on various Added Service options. The cost of this package is $ 505.00

Recommended Added Service options for your inspection:
Sewer Scoping : $195.00
Radon Testing : $195.00
Wood Destroying Organisms : $80.00

Solving puzzles on my Chessnut Air...
I got this e-board yesterday and am really enjoying it so far. I played an online game with it this morning, and now I'm testing out themed tactics training by connecting it with LucasChess on my computer. I definitely recommend something like this for anyone interested in practicing OTB. By the way, bonus points to the first person who solves this puzzle (white to play).

2024.05.14 22:16 naftalibp How using GPT at work makes me a 10x developer

Ever since ChatGPT-3.5 was released, my life was changed forever. I quickly began using it for personal projects, and as soon as GPT-4 was released, I signed up without a second of hesitation. Shortly thereafter, as an automation engineer moving from Go to Python, and from classic front end and REST API testing to a heavy networking product, I found myself completely lost. BUT - ChatGPT to the rescue, and I found myself navigating the complex new reality with relative ease.
I simply am constantly copy-pasting entire snippets, entire functions, entire function trees, climbing up the function hierarchy and having GPT just explain both the python code and syntax and networking in general. It excels as a teacher, as I simply query it to explain each and every concept, climbing up the conceptual ladder any time I don't understand something.
Then when I need to write new code, I simply feed similar functions to GPT, tell it what I need, instruct it to write it using best-practice and following the conventions of my code base. It's incredible how quickly it spits it out.
I've done this to quickly implement tasks that would have taken me days to accomplish. Most importantly, it gives me the confidence that I can basically do anything, as GPT, with proper guidance, is a star developer.
I've written elsewhere about how I've used this in my personal life, allowing me to build a full stack application, but it's actually my professional life that has changed more.

2024.05.14 22:15 PaddyCow I hate that it costs so much to get diagnosed

Two years I had thoughts about self deleting. I couldn't understand why I was such a fcuk up and couldn't cope the way other adults could. My life was a mess. I remember one night sitting in front of my computer and thinking "what is the fucking point?". Everything around me was organised. My college notes were colour coordinated and in order. Everything was set up for me to succeed. Yet I ws still failing. I remember thinking "everything I do is set up for me to succeed, but it's the execution that's a failure".
This was a serious lightbulb moment. Becaue of Covid, I started spending a lot of time on Reddit and had read about ADHD and executive dysfunction. Immediately I knew that was the problem. It made so much sense. So I went to my GP the next morning and I was explaining everything and she suggested I was Bipolar! I said no, I definitely wasn't and wanted to get tested for ADHD. She said there were no servies that dealth with adults because adults don't have ADHD. What the fuck?
She did refer me to the psychriatiast and I got an appointment 5 months later. And they told me that I might have ADHD and trauma from my childhood, but she couldn't help me because there were no services that dealth with adults with adhd. I was absolutely devasated by this. She did give me a list of people who might be able to help, and my GP referred me to a psychiatrist. I was looking that he was taking new clients and I got my diagnosis.
I have to say, having the diagnosis did have a positive effect on my life. So much made sense.
But it was only half the battle.
I am on the autism spectrim. I don't need a doctor to tell me this. I know by how people react to me. To me I'm normal. But I've learned that my normal isn't the wider normal.
I know I struggle socially.
I konw I struggle with emotional regulational.
I know I hear noises that don't bother other people.
I konw I appear "normal" but other people feel like something is "off"
I asked my GP about getting an official diagnosis so I can get the supports I need. I was reffered to a service that sounds really good, except it's €1,200. I'm sure to my American cousins that doesn't sound like much, but to me it's a pipe dream.
I know I could be a productive member of society if I could get my shit together, but I need help getting my shit toghether. It's possible to be academically gifted and still be special needs. Why don't they test children and they help them as they develop into adults?

2024.05.14 22:15 Tofu_Bone How to write test for a Table function and Stored Procedure?

So I work for a company as a Junior Data Engineer (that's not my title, but I work with ETL tools, python and SQL so I guess close enough) and I write a lot of table function and stored procedure that's pure SQL.
We have a data warehouse (SAP HANA) that are loaded with dimension and fact table and I need to write long and complex table function (around 1000 rows) to join those table in the data warehouse for creating reports.
The company have a practice of writing test for these table function to check if the table function is getting valid and correct data. The test will run everyday to make sure they are correct.
However, the test are just another SQL script that try to query the data from the data warehouse differently, and compare them. Which turn them into the exact same code as the table function. It's very hard to get the same result but with different SQL query. As the testing code become almost identical to the table function, the test will always pass and we get a useless test.
So my question would be how do I write test that is meaningful? How would you design a automated test for a long and complex table function? How did your organization do it?

2024.05.14 22:08 thenerdwritersblog I am pregnant and I am not sure what to do now.

https://www.reddit.com/TwoXIndia/s/liPwhI9XlA
After our fight, I made sure to ignore my husband and only reply when asked questions. He didn't apologize but kept his tone normal with me and after that incident, whenever he used to say anything that would hurt me, I would straight away go out of the room or put headphones or else I would reply back to him.
When I posted the above-mentioned post, I had already conceived, and I missed my periods, so I decided to take an at home pregnancy test. It came out positive.
I informed my husband about my pregnancy test, and he was shocked at first. Then, he kept on questioning if the child was his because this was something we weren't planning. I told him several times(mind you, I was practically shouting at a point), and I am not sure if he believes it or not, but he doesn't ask any more questions.
I am still looking for a job and gave some interviews, waiting to hear back from them. I have decided not to abort the child. I can not do that.
My parents are very happy and my mother strictly said to me to take care of myself even if no one does. She also told me not to tolerate any BS, and if things go rocky, then I should come to India.
My MIL is happy. This is what she told me, but now is concerned about her daughter as my SIL is also expecting a baby. She is like, "Who will help her. She will be all alone." My MIL wants to come here, i.e. in the country we are living right now, but her visa was rejected a few times before. She also told me to go find work at supermarkets. When I told her the news, she was more concerned about her daughter and me not earning rather than the happiness of having a baby.
My husband, on the other hand, told me to take care of myself and, surprisingly, listen to me. He will make sure I eat healthy and on time and not eat cold food. When we visited the doctor, he also asked questions regarding my health. Yes, he does tells me to do certain things like talk to people ( I am very reserved type), engage in conversations but now he is not shouting at me but talking with me in normal tone.
Also, my MIL once told me that we want a boy child only at first, and when I asked the same question to my husband, he said that it didn't matter to him whether it would be a girl or a boy. It would be our baby.
I am sure I am a bad person for saying this, but I don't want my MIL to be present here cause she has some weird notions about periods and pregnancy. When I was in India living with her, she would not let me come near when she was making pickles if I was menstruating. Now, she is telling me that if two pregnant women live together, then one would lose their milk and would not be able to breastfeed. This is the reason my SIL and her husband will be living separately. She also says that if a pregnant woman craves sweet, it would be a boy and many other things.
I have already heard these things and a guessing game of a boy child or a girl child at the time of my SIL, and now, I can not go through this again during my time. I am sure I will blast and say something to her.
For my sanity, I don't want her here. I am ready to face all challenges and do everything for my baby, but not this. This does make me a bad person, but I can't help it.
I am sure that having a child will not change the dynamics between my husband and I, and I can not process things right now. I really need a sisterly advice please.

2024.05.14 22:02 Hero_of_country Was Tucker distributist (or capitalist)?

"Individualist anarchists such as Benjamin Tucker, who identified his individualist anarchism as anarchistic socialism, are opposed to both capitalism and compulsory communism. Those anarchists support wage labor as long as the employers and employees are paid equally for equal hours worked and neither party has authority over the other.[70] This approach was put into practice in American individualist anarchist colonies such as Utopia, organized by Josiah Warren. By following this principle, no individual profits from the labor of another. Tucker described the wages received in such an employer-employee relationship as the individual laborer's full product. He envisioned that in such a society every worker would be self-employed and own their own private means of production, free to walk away from employment contracts. Tucker called communism "pseudo-anarchism" because it opposes wages and property, fearing that collectivization would subdue individuals to group mentality and rob workers of the full product of their labor.[71]"
Supporting wage labour, even with equal relationship (if it's possible at all) doesn't seems socialist to me, and even less private property (and anti-collectvism), but maybe it's just bad wording for property of use.

2024.05.14 22:01 Euphoric-Earth-4765 An inside look at the culture and ideology of Faith Comes By Hearing_PART 3

Most meetings should be an email:
Their “all hands on deck” meetings are early in the morning, even though the first three hours of your workday are your most precious and productive and should be reserved for the most important tasks where focus, attention, high cognitive function, willpower is needed, according to research. Willpower or mental energy regulates your thoughts, emotions, impulses, and performance control.
Top management has recurring meetings but it seems like the topic was determined 5 min beforehand because the meetings are often all over the place, with no clear agenda, and random topics. Often, they feel like a parent lecturing their teenager.
Meetings are mandatory. Most employees do not really have to be there. The meetings do not affect the actual day to day job functions. The main purpose for these meetings seems to be for unity (or the appearance of). They are often not productive. Not useful and not engaging for most employees. Not worth spending company time. Not used for coaching or mentoring. Not used for making decisions. They are not about a complex issue that needs to be talked through ideas and solutions. In actuality, 98% of the meetings should really just be emails. There are three regular weekly meetings: about 80-90% of them include testimonies or personal stories and about 10-20% is someone sharing statistics (about the products they produce) or status updates or the behind the scenes (how the "hotdogs" are made). One out of about four meetings involve a recount of the ministry's history. If one did not attend the meetings, nothing would change. There really would not be any consequences that would affect doing your job.
Finally, Managers or employees who have traveled internationally are the only ones that get to speak and address the entire ministry. Everyone else doesn't get a voice.
Testimonies or personal stories:
Stories and testimonies as a form of encouragement and motivation are not bad or not useful; however, there are other areas in the work culture that are lacking that destroy any built up motivation. Employees are expected to have some kind of emotional response to them. Over the months and years, stories and testimonies become overused. In fact, you will hear so many testimonies that, over time, they will blurr and you will probably become desensitized to them. Stories and testimonies are probably seen as a way of providing support to employees but other supports are also lacking and needed (e.g., better leadership, empowerment, resources, tools, better communication, regular check ins, accountability, empathy, feedback, personal and professional development). Stories, anecdotes, and testimonies seem to be used to deflect from some of the problems in the ministry culture.
Top management pressures employees to feel a certain way. They want them to always feel encouraged and motivated by everything and anything the ministry does:
If you replace "encourage" with Love" and then talk to your wife....
“I took out the trash, that should make you feel loved. I mowed the lawn, that should make you feel loved. I picked up my laundry, that should make you feel loved. I went exercised today, that should make you feel loved. i helped an old lady cross the street.”
This makes it all about YOU, not how your wife actually feels! in fact, you are manipulating her to feel a certain way by what you did!
"If you are not feeling loved by all these things I did, then something is wrong with YOU.”
So management tells employees how they should be feeling about things. Performance is often not rewarded. Many employees do not know how much management cares about them as a person. What would be really encouraging is if management gave employees confidence, listed better, spoke to their needs, and empowered them.
Meetings - introverts vs extroverts:
Meetings are not set up to accommodate the basic differences between introverts and extroverts (e.g., how they best think, work, process information, communicate, learn; introverts typically dislike noise and big group settings) nor of how people need to manage their energy (ultradian rhythms). Management does not use information about individual team members’ personalities and predilections to formulate norms and dynamics that are respectful to everyone. Research indicates that in a typical six-person meeting, two people do more than 60% of the talking. In bigger groups, like the 100+ group at FCBH, the problem is worse. Management allows a certain dominant personality to do all the talking. They are not coached to listen, reflect, and become more open to the perspectives of their more silent peers. Top management does not send the meeting agenda in advance and ask for written feedback to give introverts time to formulate thoughts and summon the courage to share them.
Management’s definition of a “successful” meeting is different from that of other organizations. Top management does not appear to have any training in meeting science. Most meetings do not provide value to all attendees. They are not set up for employees to contribute and add value to them. Also, no opportunities to give feedback on meeting quality when meetings end.
A “Christian” version of CRT:
The opinions and perspectives of international employees are valued over local/american employees. Employees who are international (and especially those who live in persecuted areas) are often prioritized and favored. Their voice, their input, is often considered more important because top management pressures them to share and speak.
If there is a need, entire ministry is notified to pray if the need is from internationals but not if the need is local.
Personal convictions. Money:
Top management tends to have some childhood trauma, that is the root cause of their strong personal convictions, that often comes out during their mandatory meetings. These “preaching” moments usually have to do with money. They grew up poor or had strict parents or been around groups, ministries, and churches that abused money and now they get triggered or feel guilty when they see new things and resist replacing things like whiteboards and chairs: "if we already have something, we don't need to replace it = if it ain't broke, don't fix/replace it. wear your shoes out until your soles poke through the bottom before buying new ones." They seem to get triggered when employees ask them for upgrades/replacements” “if it can still 'technically' work, then it's fine.”
Compromises:
In order to fulfill their deadlines and to keep up appearances with ministry partners and donors, management will often “let things go”. Things such as quality of the recordings or training issues with internationals. They are willing to sacrifice quality control to get the results their supporters want to see.
Employee well-being:
Top management often makes assumptions about the well-being and contentment of employees.
They do not invest time and effort in comprehending genuine emotions and needs to create a supportive and harmonious work environment.
No consideration for managing energy or attention. No discussions on employees’ health and wellness goals. Instead, employees are expected to focus, to look at computer screens for extended periods of time (an 8 hrs shift includes two short breaks) even though editing and processing audio and video requires high mental energy and prolonged focus. Management often ignores telltale singles of burnout and fatigue. No effort is made to increase energy, reduce fatigue, and improve job performance. So, consistency, accuracy, and quality of recordings are affected as well as employees’ well-being.
Moveover, no paid maternity or even work from home options for new parents. Many new moms have left. New parents must be use PTO if they want time with their new baby.
The end result? Low moral, isolation, aloneness. Many employees are overworked and underappreciated. Many are not satisfied with their position. Most work until they burn out. Someone said this and it's true: for every employee that leaves, they have to hire at least two people to replace them. Sure, there are some long-term or for life employees who have been around for 10+ years. Unfortunately, most of these employees have outdated skills and would have a difficult time finding work (there is no continuing education or certifications offered) if they wanted to leave (or were let go). In addition, many of the skills employees learn on the job are non-transferrable. So, many choose to stay and remain loyal to the ministry because the cost of leaving is just too high.
No windows; no natural light:
Most of the building has no windows. Something to note if you struggle with depression.
People are different:
Management seems to lack an understanding of how people are wired, how each person is different, what drives their behavior and what they’re capable of doing with their skills. Not much consideration for each person’s individual goals, strengths, and weaknesses. Management does not create situations that encourage employees to motivate themselves.
So, work areas do not reflect the needs of Gen Z and millennials, the basic differences between introverts and extroverts (e.g., how they think, work, process information, communicate, learn), how personality impacts work preferences and styles. No awareness of how people need to manage their energy (ultradian rhythms). They do not allow people to work the way they want to; extroverts should feel comfortable taking time to socialize, while introverts should have license to work remotely or take breaks from the team.
Top management does not recognize that individuals may not always express their inner concerns or desires openly. They don’t sculpt jobs to enhance individual engagement: they don’t seek to understand the unique motivations of employees or develop each employee’s career. No incentives or rewards are provided. Not much authentic appreciation is shown. Employees have value as people (not just as producers), and management needs to communicate in ways that are meaningful to the recipient (as opposed to just going through the motions). Management must adopt business practices that help employees have a personal life.”
Work family:
Despite current best business practices, management will continually use the phrase “work family”.
All about the numbers:
There is more focus on production than the core values of the ministry. Top management almost idolizes how many bibles are produced. There is a focus on goals and numbers which often comes off as self-righteous and self-promoting and self-important: Numbers of bibles produced, numbers of people who receive those bibles, numbers of testimonies from those that get the bibles. Focus seems to be on the products FCBH produces over the people reached. Focus is on getting bibles to people. Focus is not on discipleship or teaching people how to correctly interpret the Bible they receive so they can become more like Jesus. Top management seems to be more focused on what they have done well rather than on what others have done well. And they often take credit for accomplishments that should be credited to God.
Theology at work:
Management does not want discussions to get “too theological”, they want to keep it “practical”, as though good practice did not require careful thought to direct it. They discourage employees from discussing theology because they want to keep “unity” and avoid division among Christians, however, they will present their own theological positions and convictions but not allow other employees to question or share their own views and opinions especially on controversial topics (e.g., spiritual gifts, hearing from God, fasting, finances, stewardship, prophesy, replacement theology).
Favoritism:
Major donors to the ministry are singled out to entire staff and praised. The poor widow with two coins wouldn't get any mention. This makes it seem that the ministry only really cares about the major donors. All donors should be anonymous to employees that are not directly working with the donors.
Employees who are pastors are also favored:
They are often asked to pray or give a word in meetings as if their prayers and words are above employees who are not pastors. As if God will take extra time and attention to hear from them and answer their prayers.
Inconsistencies:
Some “special” employees are allowed to work remotely for some unknown reason. Most employees requesting to WFH are denied. This is never explained and so it creates division, confusion, and envy.
Birthday, thanksgiving, and Christmas parties vary drastically by department: some departments work half day and get together off site to celebrate; some work full day and have no party; some work full day and have a 30min party onsite (during work hours?); some have food only, some have food and games, some have everyone bring in food but some have the ministry? provide the food; some have gift exchange and some don’t….

Conclusion:
Some people might say this is all superficial and selfish, all that really matters is getting bibles to people. You be the judge. Many have chosen to ignore these issues and remain loyal to the ministry; some stay and think things will get better; others stay because they have nowhere else to go; some mentally check out; some have spoken out and been labeled as “causing disunity” and then let go, and many others have chosen to leave. Unfortunately, the people most sensitive to a decrease in the quality of the culture are typically those with the most resources, skills, and talents that could be used to effectuate improvement. The people who are the least sensitive to quality usually have fewer resources, skills, and talents.

2024.05.14 21:59 Fit-Number2084 Questions I was looking at on Chegg were on my test

Hi!
So I just took my final after taking a practice test this morning and I noticed all the questions from the practice test were on the final. When I took the practice test I used chegg to understand how the problems were solved. The practice test was ungraded and just there for help. I used no resources on the actual final and I used chegg for help on about 3 questions only for the practice test. Should I be ok? I have only ever used Chegg as a resource to understand how to solve problems, but this is making me nervous.
