I have a small-ish approximately 15'x10' deck that sits about 4 feet off the ground. It faces north up a river, and it is the main reason we bougth the house and property. We are in Canada and outside of any organized township.
Currently, we have no railings at all but we have several small kids in our lives and we would like to keep parents at ease, and ourselves, rather than worry about a child having a short fall and breaking an arm (or worse).
The issue is that the view is incredible! We can see it from our kitchen out the sliding door, and we really don't want to obstruct the view. Adding any kind of permanent railing would really be a bummer in that sense. So...does anyone have any ideas? Here are what I've found online:

Hello all, I am stuck between these two laptops but I am open to other ideas.
Samsung Galaxy Book3 vs Acer Swift Go14.
Both similar HDDs, same 16gig Ram, and CPU i7-1355U.
Budget: My budget is under $600, I am open to refurbished.
Currently using a surface Pro 5gen with an i5 processor
Size: have a 17inch leather messenger bag that I carry everything in, as long as it fits in, thats great. I have a Dell Latitude 9420 that is 14inch and .55 inches thick. I could go bigger with out much worry.
14inch+ screen size would be ideal.
Use: I would use my laptop for my real estate business and for movies while traveling. I hook up to TV's when I am traveling and watch movies from that.
I use a lot of GIS/Google-Earth type apps and often have 2+ spreadsheets and a few dozen tabs open at any given time. My Surface Pro lags pretty hard doing the tasks I need it to do.
A good battery life is nice, if I can have it unplugged for 6 hours of hard use and 8 of light, I would be very happy. I use my laptop outside a lot while viewing properties.
I also would appreciate good and loud speakers, but I have a Bluetooth speaker I can easily hook up.
I sometimes do "sellebuyer presentations" which is an on the spot presentation to potential clients, I use my Laptop as my presentation screen, so something that lends itself to that would be great.

Earlier this month I was going to miss a meeting with my work coach and so I messaged them about it and asked for a new meeting to be scheduled. They thanked me for letting them know then didn't get back to me for 2 weeks, at which point I was sanctioned for 2/3rds of my claim for not showing up to a meeting and not getting in contact. I defended my position through their messaging system during which time I was passed from person to person who all seemed to have the impression that I never asked for a reschedule until I point out that I did, at which point they seem surprised then pawn me off on someone else.
I wouldn't mind the 1 day sanction, after all I did miss a meeting, but I have to pay for transport to the vocation course I'm on, pay for Internet for my online degree, and pay for transport to the volunteer position I hold. The 2 week sanction is too great for me to continue doing the things I need to do. Given that the universal credit people seem to have no way of helping me with my issue (or are at the very least unwilling to), who would be the appropriate authority to report something like this to (if such an authority exists)?

Hey, not really a giving up moment but a rather sobering one, I have been learning C# for about 2 years now on and off (whenever time permits) and recently transitioned to C++. I started working with unreal and started messing around and found it rather simple.
I then asked a programmer friend of mine for some tasks I could do to improve my knowledge, and suggested I try create a single Linked List, after multiple days, nothing, I could not figure it out to save my life. What bothers me is after looking up solutions online it looked like something extremely simple, and i realized just how much unreal does in the backend, now I just feel disheartened with a simple Linked List brought me to my knees. Anyways, not thinking of giving up, just more for those struggling to keep pushing and maybe some words of encouragement if this is the right place to ask/turn to. Thanks

My first ER I had 5 eggs collected, 4 mature and fertilized normally via ICSI. 2 made it to blast. 1 was PGT normal, pending PGT-M on it. They needed more embryos from this ER.
This time around I had 8-10 follicles, but only 5 eggs collected. 4 mature again, but this time only one fertilized normally via ICSI, they are watching two others. Is there any hope for those?
I am 41 with an AMH of 1.24 (originally 0.61), MMC, and unexplained infertility. Partner sperm is good - no issues.
I only have one additional round covered by my insurance. I was considering paying out of pocket for an egg freezing cycle, and then using those eggs with another round of IVF. The problem is that my partner has expressed that he does not want to do another round as it is "too stressful" for him. For him. Nevermind what my body and heart is going through.
I may be able to convince him to do it one more time.
Any thoughts on paying out of pocket for a egg freezing cycle in hopes of having more to work with in my final IVF (assuming I can get my partner on board)?
I'm just so sad. I had such high hopes this time. Maybe my one remaining blast will pass PGT-M and I will get a chance at one transfer. I'm just worried there won't be enough info from this ER for them to use. This sucks.

We have been dating for close to 8 months now and it has been great , not going to lie , but pretty uneventful , we had some really small fights over minor things so many times that i can't even fill one of my hands while counting and thats ... about it .
We have been having sex a healthy amount but sometimes i felt like i was having it just to have it almost as a routine , because when we stay over at the other's place we end up having it .
We haven't been really doing too much stuff together , at first we got off by cooking and watching movies , her driving me around (since i dont have a license yet) and it was fine and dandy but its the same thing we have been doing over and over . We have had some deeper talks before this , about life and stuff , but not too many , or that i can remember clearly .
This is because we're in our last year of high school , she is going to go to med school and she is studying really much and she is kind of scared aboout going out or "wasting time" , but when we hang out we just stay inside and ... do pretty much nothing . We did study together a few times but its not like thats a huge bonding thing , because were just focused on our work , since were on different sides of the spectrum(im going on computer science college)
Also it feels like i barely have key memories with her , i have to kind of struggle to remember stuff i did with her , i guess it can be because the stress i also have in this period and maybe thats sort of my stress response , but she says we have lots of memories together and kind of feels bad when i mention to her that i dont really remember stuff , but shes ok with it because ive explained to her that i have a really shit memory.
She is really in love with me , also because i showed her what a non-abusive and healthy relationship looks like , as she has been in two other relationships that she has been cheated on in and one of them was long-term(2yrs) and i feel like that may be a reason that she is so in love with me , and i feel really bad when i dont reciprocate the same huge feelings of love that she expresses to me because i dont feel emotionally bonded with her .
Our relationship also started with us having sex before we were officially together , as i tried 1 and a half years ago to take her out on dates , but she was in that toxic relationship at that time , we went on three dates back then but she told me she wasnt into me after i confessed to her , and when we started talking again , it was like 2-3 weeks before we had gotten in bed and maybe one week after that we were official,becasue she was still in a gray zone with her ex (which i helped her get over with basically ) , so there wasnt a prolongued state in which we were figuring out eachother before we got together .
She is great , she is smart , smoking hot and a hard-worker , i really want to love her and she is all i could ask in a partner , but lately i have been questioning stuff around her , our final exams are done in like 1 and a half months , and after that vacation , but i have been wondering if this is manageable and we can connect again , or maybe find a connection that we never had found ?

I watched the original evangelion, then the rebuilds after. I personally enjoyed the rebuilds more than the original. Is there a reason the rebuilds are disliked so much, I hear these reasons often. 1.The rebuilds are disjointed and confusing 2. They are a weaker adaption of the original series. My argument to both of these are, the original series is also disjointed and confusing. I view the movies as a enriched retelling or should I say, alternately enriched retelling of the original series. I don't understand the weakewatered down take because I view the themes in the rebuilds to be more in depth/expanded upon versions of the original series. Also on another note I'd like to add that Amazon's eng dub is significantly worse than the original dubs of the rebuilds, that opinion may also be unpopular. I have nothing bad to say about the original, I'm merely defending the rebuilds.

I’m on season 4 and watching Derek and Meredith run a clinical trial where they’ve killed Eve dry patient they’ve had. Not only that, the IRB is only now stepping in and giving them “one last patient” or they shut it down. I work in clinical research and everything about this is wrong.
1) in the show, the IRB is called a national board that oversees clinical research. While there are nationwide central IRBs (private organizations that oversee research for multiple institutions), the “I” in “IRB” stands for “institutional” and most research hospitals have their own. SG is known for being a research institution so it would make sense that they had their own, so it wouldn’t be national. Further, central IRBs are typically used when the study/trial is being done at multiple institutions across the country so if Derek is the only investigator doing it, it wouldn’t make sense to use a central IRB. Also, Derek’s comment of “the IRB says I’ve failed” is just silly. That’s a small thing but it bothered me a lot lol.
2) their plan of action would NEVER be allowed. They can’t just tinker with the protocol every time a patient dies to try to see if they can get it right and kill a bunch of patients in the process. Typically you use one protocol and you do it on a set number of patients and if it works it works, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. You’d have to start a NEW trial or amend your protocol. There should also be years of pre-clinical data (on animals) to corroborate his action plan before it’s used in humans. With treatments like this, a lot of scientists use sheep instead of rats for the CNS similarities. It should have never taken a few deaths for Derek to realize they should inject the virus at the same time. These things are as ironed out as possible with substantial evidence of a safe outcome before they’re tried in humans. There’s a method to this madness.
3) death is considered an serious adverse event and would be reported to the IRB. Typically there’s also a separate board (data safety monitoring board), independent of the investigator, who oversees adverse events. After the first patient death, the DSMB would conduct an investigation on whether the death was attributed to the investigational treatment. If it was directly considered a reaction and not just an event, they’d seriously consider shutting it down well before they got to like what 10 patients dead??
Sorry for nerding out on research stuff but it just pissed me off so much. But then again, nothing about this show is accurate when it comes to operations. But as a clinical research admin person, this especially bothered me lol.

Hello everyone.
It's been a frustration lately trying to figure out what to do. I (30 F) was diagnosed in 2nd grade, but we moved to a different state than the place I was diagnosed and my mother "conveniently" lost the paperwork. That's a long story, but my parents were abusive. It is what it is.
Anyway, all of the providers by me look like they only diagnose children and only treat adults who already have the diagnosis.
I don't have the paperwork and have no way of getting it. I called around the providers in my hometown and they either don't have records that far back or they don't have me in the system. In order to get accommodations at work, I need proof of the diagnosis and it looks like I'm going to have to get diagnosed again to get the proof.
Online services like Talkspace don't diagnose. The online services that do diagnose don't take insurance and want to charge $2K-$2.5K. I don't have that kinda cash
So, Reddit, ideas?

TL;DR: I had a great 1st experience at an Antiochian Orthodox Church - Arabic Tradition. The icons, matins, Divine Liturgy and all was simply fantastic!

I thought I'd write up my first experience at an orthodox church. This may be a bit of a longer post fyi, but I think it's important, and hopefully my experience will help other inquirers.
First off my experience was GREAT! All of the research, YT videos, books and of course this subreddit, had given me plenty of information to prepare me. I will be returning this week, an visiting another church in the Russian Tradition.
So I arrived at the church early as I'm a bit of a time fanatic, and realized that Matins was starting so I stayed for Matins and the Divine Liturgy. I walked in, and oh my gosh, the iconography was breathtaking. Nothing you see online, or in books can compare from my perspective. When it's said that the icons are a window to the heavens/divine, that is a real thing. The church I attended had the dome and in the dome was a icon of our Lord, and it was like He was looking at me. I couldn't stop gazing up at Him, and did so many times during the service. I also saw so many depictions of events, and saints all throughout and it was an emotional and surreal experience. It was incredible!
Matins was interesting as I had no clue what was going on, and this particular Sunday had quite a few guest priests and deacons from out of town and so it was very busy around the alter and the iconostasis . I didn't matter. I sat and listened and took it all in.
I was welcomed by a sub deacon (I think), and he was nice and welcomed me. After, I believe, a deacon, came and welcomed me. He asked me my full name, and where I came from (religious background), I'm Baptist (protestant), and he welcomed me and asked me not to take communion, he also said we could speak later. I told him I had done quite a bit of research and understood. He nodded an thanked me and then scurried back up to the alter as Matins was in process. I sat back down and enjoyed Matins, and then we went right into the Divine Liturgy.
Oh my gosh it was such a sight to behold and feel! While I wouldn't say I "felt like I was home per se", the after affects of the service told me what needed to be done in my life. More on that later. So the divine liturgy was simply amazing! The music, the reading, the homily all of it! I was in that church for 2.5 hours and it flew by!
The service was mostly in English, with a mix of Arabic, and most of the parishioners were arabic. I had not idea the church was of the arabic tradition, but that didn't matter to me. I know and have experienced many cultures so it was fine. As the divine liturgy began, the church filled up! It was nice to see familys, couples, kids, grandparents and the like in the church. And for those who are wondering if they stick out like a sore thumb, I am of African American heritage, and so I was the only one there. No biggie for me, and no one cared. No one was looking at me, even when the archpriest welcomed me during the Divine Liturgy (that was a shock to me as I don't like public attention). There were also some celebrations, as one of the subdeacons was moving away to another state, and there was a recently married couple that received their crowns, which was nice to see.
Finally, I was able to see the sacrament of holy communion, which was a sight to behold. And when I say I saw it, it was not more than a half a foot in front of me due to where I was sitting so I was able to "experience it" without actually partaking.
Overall thoughts:
Simply incredible and I know for a fact that I want to be a part of the original church. Now I need to find which orthodox church/tradition best suits me (currently in process). The after effects of the services were like lightening striking my inner being! I was energized and felt incredible at a spiritual level, so much so that I wanted to go back again the same day! I knew then and their that this is where I belonged.
I also didn't read the Matins/Divine Liturgy before going, which was fine for me. In hindsight, I probably should have so I at least knew what was going on, but for me, it didn't matter for my first experience.
I am ecstatic and looking forward to becoming a Catechumen, and then a full member of the original church!
