2024.05.14 23:17 Jinslank Valorant is at it’s worst state ever (a rant)

I‘ve been a very active player up until the last act, with almost every battle pass completed (just lvl 50, no epilogue) and I have never been more demotivated to play this game than in these last to acts.
So I wanted to share a few points that annoy me to express my disappointment with the games current development.
  1. Daily Mission System
Some days you just have a few bad games and other days you just have time for 1, maybe 2 games. If those games don’t grant you enough round wins you can’t complete your dailies and won’t get the “haven’t played in a day so here’s a bonus” buff to your daily missions the next day. Why am I being forced to win rounds to get my bonus XP? For what reason am I being punished for not being able to always get 14 round wins in a day. Old system with mission was better, cause you could complete them regardless of a losing streak.
  1. Battle Pass XP
I like the passes and the stuff but often times it feels very slow to get some XP. You get like 4k XP for a game I think? And the later lvls take like 30k to complete, so when you are out of your weekly missions it can take a long time to get a few BP lvls. With every year passing I have less time for gaming and more other responsibilities that I need and want to take care of. Even though I’d still like to complete the pass, it feels more and more demoralizing to do so.
  1. Maps
This map pool really isn’t fun. It has been going on for too long and ugh. Even the “we try to give you a different map after you played one too many times” thing is very hit or miss. Sometimes it feels like im rotating games between Bind, Ascent and Icebox only. I still don’t know why we can’t just choose the maps we want to play in unrated.
  1. Ranked rewards
I’m not a big ranked player myself. I wanted to try n reach diamond rank and did that in Episode 7. Happy that I got the buddy but how is there no new ranked reward? The same buddy with a different number on it since the beginning of the game I think? That’s just lame.
  1. Shop
Worst shop ever. By this point there are way too many collections to justify 4 random rotating daily skins. There aren’t even reruns of old collections. Let’s say there is a new player who likes one of the old player cards from the Magepunk collections, well bad luck for them cause there is no way to ever get that accessory in the games current state. That’s just dumb and very consumer unfriendly.
  1. Money go brrr
Obviously Riot wants to make money, duh. But Valorant feels more like “least amount of work we can get away with, for the maximum amount of money” than any other live service game I have ever played (except for Overwatch 2 maybe). I just wish something exciting/fresh/different would happen more often in the game.
  1. Radianite
As said, I was a very active player and have many BP’s completed. I sit around 1000 radianite and habe nothing to do with it. Give me something to spend my radianite on other than skin upgrades (maybe let us convert it to Kingdom Credits?)
Feel free to add points or rant back at me if you disagree with one of my points. Just wanted to share my opinion and let out some frustration (Also I apologize for any english mistakes, not my native language)

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to – including any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character" – unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!
Also, if there's something in a first-timer's comment you want to specifically quote to talk about behind spoiler tags, spoiler tag the quote so the first-timer doesn't know what part of their comment you're making "ominous" spoilers about. So instead of something like:
Rewatcher quoting the first-timer's comment: Oh, I love this character! I think he'll be my favorite.
Rewatcher's comment underneath the quote: [Spoilers] Don't get too attached lol.
You get:
Rewatcher quoting the first-timer's comment: [Spoilers] Oh, I love this character! I think he'll be my favorite.
Rewatcher's comment underneath the spoilered quote: [Spoilers] Don't get too attached lol.

Questions of the Day:

  1. What do you think about what they've created? How do you feel that it had to be changed so much?
  2. What's the favorite thing you've learned about animating from this episode?
  3. Kanamori is pretty harsh in this episode. What do you think of her management style?

2024.05.14 22:54 randomguy301048 Wife and I is going to start a watch and I had a few questions.

So as the title states my wife and I are going to start watching through the series after we ran into complications with trying rurouni kenshin. I was curious if there was similar issues here as well? Like with rurouni kenshin there are two different dubs and the hulu one was done poorly and hunting down dvds ended with me getting a box set missing entire episodes and half of another. So is the hulu version the right one to watch? I saw there were episodes not on there but found through some research they are a different series called the lost chapter or something, I imagine that's also on hulu? Is the sequel worth the watch after finishing the main series?

~ General Recommendations (All Consoles) For Anyone Who Can't Decide ~

First off, I won't recommend big or famous games like Final Fantasy or Persona, this is more for lesser know, hidden gems, or just games where it's hard to find someone talking about them.

[Valkyria Chronicles]

[Valkyria Chronicles 4]

This one is really hard to explain through words alone, but just in case, the VC series is a World War 2 military setting story, where you act as the lead of a squad and take mission to drive back the enemy. The story is drama heavy and the gameplay is tactical turn-based, but it's mixed with real-time third person shooter.
You can also make your own army by recruiting different types of solders, training them and upgrading their gear. From rifles to tanks, this is a game you have to experience to understand.

[Fuga: Melodies of Steel 1 & 2]

Great game, great art style, and really well made and balanced turn-based combat. That alone is enough to get the game. Then you add the time-management part of the game, where you spend time upgrading the different tank rooms, cooking, exploring ruins, spending time to bond with other characters, and so on. It's also great if you want a game that you can play for an hour or 2 and then put down for later. As the game is played through stages, and once you're done with a stage, you get an intermission to do what you want and come back to it later.
It's not a long game (compared to the usual JRPG), as you mentioned, it's about 20 hours. Story-wise I think it was a bit too short. Gameplay wise it was great fit, because it didn't outstay it's welcome, and it ends when you feel you have mastered the gameplay and want to face the final challenge.
The story is good, but isn't the focus. Gameplay is the main focus. In fact you'll feel that a lot of context isn't told in the story, but instead left for you to either read about in the in-game wiki or just figure out through obvious clues in the story.
There is a big mechanic that this meant to put a lot of pressure on your playthrough (don't worry about it being spoiled because it's literally explained in the first hour of the game). The thing is though, if you have experience in JRPGs or just play in a really well thought out and relaxed manner, then that mechanic might not be as big a deal as they make it seem to be. Yet it's still fun nonetheless.
Fuga 2 is even better. It fixes a lot of the minor issues the first game had, and what's really great, is it improved the "big pressure" mechanic I talked about, and now it actually is a big deal. Then add to that so much little new mechanics added that just makes for a much more fun and challenging game. The 2nd game also continues the same story.

[Ni no Kuni] Series

If you're looking for that great Isekai fantasy adventure feel, then these two games are where it's at. Fantastic visuals and great music, coupled with a great art style, a combo that is perfect for a chill and relaxed gaming experience. Especially when talking about the first game, with the help ofStudio Ghibli, they managed to make a truly whimsical world with that Studio Ghibli classic touch.
- Important Note: The games aren't connected story-wise, so you can start with any of them -

[Wrath of the White Witch]

For a the best fantasy adventure feel, while the combat is a hit or miss depending on your taste, don't let that stop you from actually diving into a true fairy tale world, this is the one with the better story in my opinion, so if you want more story than game, this is for you. Still it has a good share of gameplay, from raising and collecting Pokemon-like monsters, to learning and using different spells, not just in combat but for the overworld too.

[Ni no Kuni™ II: Revenant Kingdom]

This one focuses more on gameplay, with a Kingdom builder, Army battles, Heavy loot focus, and even character collector, this is the one to go with if you want more game than story. Still has the great music and he fantastical art style and setting. Add to that a lot of side activities like beating rare monsters, collecting cute creatures to help you in battle, and even going around the world to gather people to help you build your kingdom. You'll never be short on things to do.
Finally, both of them have beautifully draw world that is just a pleasure to walkthrough, made even better with the amazing orchestral soundtrack.

[Star Ocean The Second Story R]

The original PS1 game was already an amazing JRPG and a classic. But this remake takes it to go even further beyond SSJ3. It should be the standard on how to make a faithful remake on of a classic title.
I don't want to overhype it more than I already did. So to keep this short, this remake does so much:
  • All major story events are now fully voice acted. This includes a lot of the private actions too.
  • Fully redone and better translation of the game.
  • New Character to recruit to the party.
  • New Private Actions and 13 new Endings.
  • New character portraits, not just for the main cast, but also for many other characters.
  • A complete rework for the battle system to be up to modern standards.
  • So many QoL features:
    • Auto-saving
    • Fast-forward cut-scenes or skip them.
    • Text log
    • All difficulties can be accessed from the start
    • Fast travel
    • 3 different voice dubbing options to choose from (New English, Original Japanese, New Japanese)
    • Your choice of different art styles
    • Choose between original OST and new rearranged OST.
    • No random battles anymore, as enemies can be seen and avoided
And believe me when I say I still haven't touched half of the amazing work that has gone into this remake.

[Sword and Fairy 7: Together Forever]

They did a great job with the presentation of the game. Great voice acting (Chinese), great graphics, amazing music, and an impressive attention to details of the world and it's lore, especially the engineering of the buildings and their decor. Then you have the really beautiful design of each piece of gear, and even just normal attire of each NPC and the disciples of each sect or soldiers of each of the different of each plane (gods, humans, demons).
Then we go to how great looking the monsters and local flora and fauna of each realm. You can feel the intense work that has gone into making and animating each of them. It really is a joy to watch them, as much as it is to watch each environment you see them in. There really isn't enough time to talk about how good the presentation is.
As for the story. First off, I am not an expert in Chinese novels mythology, but I am a big fan of Xianxia and Wuxia novels. So when I say that the story is...good but nothing great, I am saying this as more than just a JRPG fan, but also someone who is very into this type of world and Chinese martial arts fantasy setting. it's nothing that will stick in your mind, apart from the events that take place in some of the beautiful set pieces in the game, or the cut-scenes with beautiful action cheoragphy.
The gameplay is also about average. The side-quests are fun and are worth doing if nothing more than for learning more about the lore and the world. But the actual battles and action gameplay isn't as good as the best ones out there, but it's not bad. I have ran into some bugs, some small, some big, but that was when the game just came out, and it did receive a lot of patches since then. You can tell that they aimed to make a huge triple A production, but didn't have the time or manpower to test a game of this size. It's still fun to play and experience, but the level of gameplay is nowhere near the level of the presentation that the game gives the impression of having just from watching the gameplay or trailers.
If you enjoy walking through magical and fantastic looking JRPG worlds, or if you enjoy Xianxia/Wuxia fiction, then this is an easy choice. Hell even if you don't, it's still worth a go at this price.

[Blue Dragon] & [Lost Odyssey]

These two are classic titles that will probably won't be ported to or remade to modern consoles. That's why this might be the last way you'll ever get to experience 2 classic titles of the genre. Lost Odyssey has great story writing and unique character settings, and Blue Dragon has great exploration and a really fun character class customization system, and one hell of a boss theme.

[Monster Sanctuary]

This is a solid game, everything in is polished and balanced to make sure you are having fun collecting new monsters and customizing your team through evolution/skill trees/gear and making the best in-sync party you can. I only wish it was longer, it's not short by any means, but it's not long either. I would say depending on if you're trying to "catch them all" and explore everything and fight all bosses, this could easily be a 30+ hours game, but if you focus on the story, then it's about 20 to 30 hours. Now even longer with the 2 new free DLC expansion added.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining that it's short, but that I was having so much fun, that I wish it didn't end.

As always, please do add your own recommendations, and let me know if there is mistake or if something was missing, and have a nice day.

2024.05.14 22:17 lucamagica [WTS] Ink Destash - Japan Exclusive, Full 2023 Inkvent, & More

Verification + swatches
I just got back from Japan a couple weeks ago with 20 new bottles of ink, which means it’s time to shave down my collection. I’ve provided swatches for the inks that aren’t easily searchable in English above!
All inks have been swatched, but not otherwise used unless noted. Prioritizing larger bundles for the sake of shipping; willing to offer discounts for bundles over $140.
Japanese Inks
These were all purchased in Japan, and are either exclusive to Japanese stores, or otherwise not easily obtained in the US. (Yes, I know Tono & Lims is Korean!)
Tono & Lims Deep Sea Fish Pure 30ml - $20 - A mellow, light blue-purple. Dark enough to write with while maintaining a pastel look.
Tono & Lims forgetting U 30ml - $20 - A soft, medium-toned neutral blue. A good blue for writing, without the intensity of generic blue ink.
Giftionery Delta - Satsuki 30ml - $20 - Store exclusive Tono & Lims ink. - A moody medium grey, like dark storm clouds. Doesn’t lean particularly warm or cool; mimics the look of dark graphite in the right pen.
Lekogen Series Nidone(?) 30ml - $20 - (Not certain of the brand name) - A pastel peachy pink like a cat’s paw pads, brighter than the swatch photo looks. Cute kitty on the bottle!
Sailor x Itoya Disney 100 Sleeping Beauty 20ml - $20 - Store exclusive collab for Disney 100th anniversary. - Don’t let the swatch photo fool you—this ink is a HOT pink, practically florescent! Gorgeous still from Sleeping Beauty on the bottle.
Sailor x Itoya Disney 100 Snow White 20ml Sold
TAG Edonezu Umenezu 40ml - $25 - Gorgeous, muted pale thistle with some shading. Looks more lavender in lighter areas, and more purple-brown in darker areas.
Paraglass Parakuma Blushed 30ml - $25 - Sweet purple-pink with a rose gold shimmer, like a whole sunset in a single ink. Unique ridged bottle with an adorable illustration on the label.
Piere Cardin Elizabeth Purple 15ml - $15 - A bright medium purple with surprisingly nice shading; warm purple in light areas and cool purple in dark areas.
Color Bar Ink Corpse Reviver 23ml - $15 - A rich, inky purple-black; may look straight black when heavily applied.
Full Japanese Ink Bundle - $140 ($40 off)

Complete Inkvent 2023 Bundle
I had so much fun opening these up and swatching them last December, but ultimately, none of these inks are ones I feel strongly about keeping. Contains 24 12ml bottles and 1 25ml bottle; looking to sell the whole bundle together, not piecemeal.
Inkvent Bundle - $80 ($30 off new)

Other Inks
Dominant Industry Early Spring 25ml - $15 - (Missing 1 eye dropper full) - This light grey with a mix of pink and green tones and a warm shimmer looks like mother of pearl! Recommended for use with larger nibs.
Ferris Wheel Press Lady Rose 38ml - $20 - Unopened (gifted duplicate bottle) - One of my favorite “vintage”shades, a lovely warm neutral color with a hint of blush.
Ferris Wheel Press Blushing Mushroom Sold
Troublemaker Foxglove 60ml - $10 - Vivid blue-purple with multicolor shading. Similar to Sailor Manyo Nekoyanagi, but much brighter!
J. Herbin Rouge Grenat 10ml - $5
J. Herbin Bleu Myosotis 10ml - $5
Full Misc Ink Bundle - $45 ($10 off)

2024.05.14 22:17 dlschindler Treaty At Tarnak

"In the heart of this darkness, the human spirit alit and led the world to peace. The contest between the Surgix and the Arfim had escalated and the Surgix had shown that they were capable of harmful actions equal to those that humans are capable of. The Surgix continued to cause harm to the Arfim until the humans intervened. It is not the fault of the humans that the Surgix refused to cease, and that the humans resorted to eliminating all of the Surgix and dismantling their infrastructure with the use of projected explosive tools they categorize as 'weapons'. The humans obviously hesitated when the Surgix were in orbit to continue the contest. See the evidence that the humans attempted to warn the Surgix that they were being perceived as a threat before they reduced the star fleet to zero." Grand Defender Osowl Fitten described the actions of the humans of Tarnak. To the humans in the courtroom, she looked like some kind of armored sea otter and her setting on the servo preferred to translate her words in the voice of Park Eun-Bin, a human she admired. Her defense relied on showing that the humans had fought humanely and to protect the Arfim from the aggressions of the Surgix.
"In conclusion, I'd like to mention that projections of what the Surgix would have done to the Arfim would result in the extinction of the Arfim, had not the humans intervened. Because the humans do not have the means or the methods that would have resolved this any other way, their only other option would be to step aside and allow the Surgix to continue their campaign against the Arfim. It is not in human nature to stand idle and watch innocents suffer, without feeling compelled to intervene.
We have already accepted human nature, but we have not accepted the human species into Cave Gods And Friends Association. Since humans are not part of our allegiance, should their actions be held to our governing, or to our policies? Should they be required to follow our rules, and also receive no privileges or protections? The humans acted independently, and yet, with the exception of the nature of their actions, the spirit of their efforts does seem to align with our way of doing things."
Osowl Fitten sat down and closed her flax-colored eyes. Behind her the commanders of the human military were seated, wearing their uniforms with chevrons representing their degree of knowledge of warfare, a distinctly human endeavor. Unfortunately, the degree of human warfare so greatly exceeded the nasty business of the Surgix horde, that the result was the swift and efficient eradication of all Surgix equipment, fortifications and the Surgix themselves, who were actually killed by the humans - but only as a last resort when the Arfim refugees were pursued into human territory. Images of the humans firing warning shots and using sound amplifiers with recordings of Surgix in distress to attempt to warn the Surgix before they committed to using harmful actions on them.
When nothing would stop the Surgix advance, the humans were triggered into a state of war, and then they used harmful actions to remove all things Surgix, resulting in a morbid peace, during which the Arfim began to recover and rebuild, with human assistance.
"Ladies and gentlemen, bringers of peace and harmony, esteemed artists, conflict-resolvers, lend to me your attention." The Blue Light Watcher, a species the humans saw as anthropomorphic tarantulas, had a device that instantly spoke in perfect mechanical English, whatever her urticators vibrated. Her name was Exalted Inquisitor Ghox Byle, and like Osowl Fitten, she had an exceptionally successful career.
"Two years ago, the Surgix sued for peace. This is because the humans attacked them on Tarnak IV, the last remaining colony of the Surgix in the Tarnak System. The severity and brutality of this attack must be noted. It does not show any sort of restraint until after the Surgix surrendered. Even after the Surgix had surrendered, individual human soldiers killed Surgix that were trying to surrender. Therefore, despite the description of the Battle of Tarnak and the repelled Surgix Invasion of Tarnak, there was a third, much darker chapter in which the human generals decided to attack the remaining Surgix forces before they could possibly launch a second invasion attempt.
This sort of excessive use of violence is a uniquely human capability. Not even the Surgix were ready to engage humans in this sort of contest. The Surgix have renounced war, disarmed themselves and have applied for membership in Cave Gods And Friends Association. The humans, they don't even want to join, they have said to us that they don't need our guidance, that they are capable of making moral choices on their own. This arrogance, coupled with their extreme capabilities in conflict resolution, should mean that those among us who have made preparations to deal with the humans, should be allowed to utilize those preparations." Exalted Inquisitor Ghox Byle concluded.
Osowl Fitten stood alone in the interrogation suite. The memory of that courtroom moment was considered by the Sunder tribunal. No Cave Gods were summoned, and Osowl had already stated that she found this to be a court-martial, and her compulsory cooperation was only because her friends were held captive.
An artificial human-sounding voice, not too different from a famous K-Pop singer from the twenty-second century of the humans before their ascension spoke disembodied, translated from the Sunder administration's shadow government, on some distant moon in the Basilik system.
"You think the humans are just trying to get help from the Sunder to make new weapons in preparation for a possible invasion by the Unknown. Why wouldn't you consider that we have no recognition of this mythology? We are not as sentimental about superstitions as the Cave Gods, and we will be the judges this time, for once. No Cave Gods will sit there groveling in prayer and meditation trying to make some higher moral decision. It has become tedious."
"You disregard what unites us. Your cowardice is beneath me. Take me to a proper courtroom and we will formally debate this. Where is Eshka Layenna?" Osowl's eyes were bright red and tinted with jagged black veins. She was outraged by the indignity.
"We have decided to dispose of the prisoners on a timeline aligned with the conclusion of these proceedings." The Sunder said, oddly accenting the English, as though the voice preferred another language, and it was just one more layer to the indignations.
"You show them these defenses of mine, then?" Osowl flittered a yellow shimmer across her eyes and fell silent, considering a different approach.
"Well, are you without any argument? This concludes these proceedings." The hidden Sunder spoke.
"You would not consider the thespian nature of our arrest to be sufficient trade, to warrant our expedition a circus, and therefore overturn the verdict?" Osowl asked. "When I leave I will mention these proceeding concluded with such a question. Perhaps you will consider your reputation as ruthful judges to prioritize over the satisfaction of a precedent of victory over human crime won only with this silly court-martial."
"Uh. No. Well. Actually, we have reconsidered. We admit such a question is entered into these proceedings and that we have heard that question."
"And?" Osowl prompted their response, making a prompting coughing noise.
"We have noted the popularity and uniqueness of the Phoenix Hawk's arrival classifies it as a circus, technically. If that is really what you are claiming, and not to buy weapons?"
"I never intended to buy weapons, nor can I confirm that my companions expected to be able to either. Mostly we just wanted to visit and articulate in-character the mythologies you have said are never more than sentiment. Sounds to me like a circus." Osowl had already thought of her words before they asked, and answered with a quickness that assured her veracity was intact.
"In that case, the verdict is overturned. Unbelievable." said the voice of the Sunder.
"One more thing. Since Eshka Layenna is now free, I veto her reparations be in the form of restoring all forms of her authority as an Exalted Inquisitor, that way you aren't embarrassed by these proceedings." Osowl big brained.
"Of course. That makes perfect sense." the voice decided.
Eshka Layenna was released and her authority was restored promptly. She took her seal and issued a command for the research and development of mass-scale plasma shielding that might protect a fleet of ships from bombardment in space and the manufacture of all forms of ammunition on Admiral Jinar's shopping list. This infuriated Administrator Ihanna Kelele, who was obligated to obey the orders.
As they left, the humans asked about Tarnak IV and Tarnac, the home world of the Riftin. It turned out they were coincidentally named very similarly, but the two planets were in different systems and quite distinct. The humans thought this was funny for some reason.
"Historically your species has the most adaptive sense of humor, but I fear the Riftin might give you humans a run for your money?" Osowl attempted, botching it horribly.
"No! - that's just hilarious, a what for our what?" Jinar and her soldier died laughing.

2024.05.14 21:55 LordGreim225 Beginning of the Great Assault (Operation: Rolling Erosion)

Beginning of the Great Assault (Operation: Rolling Erosion)
It had been too long. Far far too long since they had a command meeting.
(Like seriously really sorry this took so long.)
‘The situation had been developing for some time, & for a time Greim had no idea how to recover the situation as it evolved. Now however he had a plan. Not the best or most sophisticated Plan. But they were against the clock & the situation would only get worse if they waited too long.
”Ladies & gentleman. It has come to my attention that the High lords will not be sending further support for this campaign for the foreseeable future. With numerous wars against the Tyranids and the Indomitus crusades, we will have to make do with what we have. What’s more, word has reached the wider T’au Empire of our invasion of the system. We are unsure if they will be dispatching a Fleet and further military support at this time. As such we are against the clock here. If we take this system & bring them to heel at the negotiation table we can ultimately be victorious on the field & let the negotiators and politicians ensure we keep what we take. As such we will review what I have gathered From our situation.
Older situation map.
”As far as I’ve gathered we have very little progress in our assaults on the defensive lines of Camburg. We have taken the Sanguine Bridge & made ground toward but not taken the Firekeep. Ka’esh Fortress, the T’au’s primary military airbase is still operational. I’d have hoped we had taken more ground, but given our situations that occurred it’s remarkable we did not lose more ground. With the clock ticking & our pool of manpower no longer going to be increasing or replenished as easily we need to hit the T’au’s primary nerve in the Gryllus system before we are too weak to do so in the future. I had hoped further forces from other fronts could aid in this, but we are out of time & would lose ground elsewhere we can’t afford to give anymore.”
’The dark briefing room of the Strategiums holo map lit up with new icons of their situation.’
Opening maneuvers
“This plan is not very complicated in its opening moves. We will hit the T’au with sudden overwhelming force wherever we can. They need both these fortresses to maintain the defense of Camburg. Firekeep is situated on one of the only land crossings, & with Ka’esh fortresses air bases operational crossing the river with pontoons, or fording with vehicles would be far too costly, as such the Kestrels will cordon & destroy the airbase utterly. It is of T’au design & as such unsalvageable, it is to be utterly razed to the ground. The titans & a Large contingent of Aironautica will provide assistance & heavy fires support. But this is a very well defended target. We believe several T’au super heavies to be present. This mission is their atonement for previous transgressions & to prove their loyalty as good guardsman, if they succeed they will be rewarded. The large support elements is to try & mitigate the losses as much as possible & give them a fair fight. The fortress also hosts a large garrison of T’au auxiliary infantry & conscripts alongside Fire warriors, so be advised. We estimate their strength at 5,000 Fire warriors & 9,000 auxiliaries & conscripts. However the air power is their greatest strength. We will send numerous hydra flak battery squadrons to further assist in this assault.”
’He scrolled toward the Firekeep.’
”The rest of the army will hit the firekeep in force. This is a major training center for T’au fire warriors & we expect stiff resistance here. They know they’re the last line against us & Camburg itself. T’au infantry & human auxiliaries will be the bulk of their defenses. This was once an imperial installation & its architecture shows.
Example of the Firekeep curtain walls.
While this fortress could theoretically be resanctified & saved, that is no longer a concern. This fortress & its defenders must be silenced & we can’t cordon them off like Ka’lesh fortress. So its destruction is likely necessary. The Krieg 5th will bombard the fortress as will all available heavy guns not used for the destruction of the T’au airbase. The 5th will use its breaching drills to create passages to breach the curtain walls & storm the outer gates from the inside to open the gates for our forces. Once inside clear the fortress top to bottom, regiments that specialize in this type of environment will take point. If the drills fail we will bombard the fortress till it is rubble & storm it traditionally. The Titans will relocate once the airbase is most in ruin & is unable to be threaten our flanks any longer. Once the airbase is cleared our forces can also ford the rivers & begin moving on Camburg itself.
Phase II of the operation:
The holodisplay projects the capital city of the T’au Empire’s government in the Gryllus System
Camburg is a major city, the largest in the system in fact & primary seat of power for the T’au Prelate ruling over this system. It is heavily defended by both Fire Warriors, Human Auxiliaries, Kroot, & even hosts a Demiurg population alongside other client races. This isn’t going to be an easy nut to crack. While not a hive city it is still a damn big one. Multiple levels exist in certain districts that go into the earth some nearly a deep as the buildings are tall. Its population estimates vary, but we estimate several tens of millions at minimum. The city is several thousand kilometers in length as well.
A T’au entertainment Dome, a popular attraction in one of the eastern city Parks This one is primarily used by the water caste, where public debates into philosophy & questions are discussed at length for hours & hours on end in a unique sort of Diplomatic debate Sport that seems popular among the caste.
The largest subterrainain district in Camburg in the older human districts. T’au technology & human culture blend. This area is the entertainment
A Auxiliary conscripts sketch of Mesme Districts Curtain walls. The T’au primary Barracks and Fire Castes living quarters are situated in between the T’au made eastern portion of the city & older human settlement next to the Etherel prelates primary residence & government building. Security is tight as such & these walls are a major line of defense for the leader of the Gryllus system. The artist was captured in a recent raid & this was found on her person. She has since been taken for further questioning & is scheduled to be sent to the Penal Colony Agri World in thanks for her cooperation.
The Aun Reach Compounds view of the city. This is one of the most heavily defended regions & buildings in the entire system.
An Artists depiction of the local peacekeepers of Camburg. This station is run by both humans & T’au. Despite what one might think, water caste primarily makes up the bulk of law enforcement in the T’au empire. Their diplomatic skills
One of the T’au loading bays & Battlesuit Armories. The heaviest suits that are more akin to flightless walking tanks are stationed in Camburg as a last line of defense. Though not numerous, there destructive power is equal & or super-passes any Imperial superheavy & some are even designed to hunt the might god engines if rumors are true.
As stated in a previous debriefing. The T’au Auxiliaries defense corp has taken its toll in this war & its numbers once in the millions of volunteers are now being supplemented by conscripted soldiery. These troopers are given quick rudimentary training & their equipment now shows it. Once wearing full combat suits able to help regulate temperatures & have built in comms. Now these fresh soldiers are given basic fatigues, a chestplate, & a padded kevlar like hood designed to protect them from shrapnel & weather. Their primary weapon a “Pulse Defender” is a semi auto Pulse weapon with no stock or advanced scope beyond basic iron sights
‘The intelligence dockets were detailed & more information could be provided if asked but the lord general continued.’
Icons lit up once again like before one the map with new objective markers highlighted in gold for priority & green for non essential or secondary.
“Our assault on Camburg will be absolute & to hammer home our advantage in numbers We still have we will strike with force on the Western half of the city. This is primarily the older settlement from the original human colonists. As such the architecture will primarily be imperial of origin in certain areas. However expect Xeno buildings & designs added as well. If things go well enough attacking the airbase Kestrel & titan forces will join us from the north, though this plav can operate without them. As we approach the city, first blood will go to the Astartes, if they are willing. Any space marine compliments available will attack the Spaceport in a rapid shock assault via however they wish. Anti air is present but I doubt that can stop angels of death for long. Their mission will be to destroy any T’au air assets capable of defense & reduce the spaceport or any ships present to nonfunctional. This will eliminate the threat they can evacuate their leadership before we can reach him. After they have caused enough damage they can withdraw at their discretion.”
’He panned over the guards & knight elements.’
”We will begin with a bombardment of the outer defenses & target troop staging areas such as Barrack’s & Aun‘s Reach. This is a civilian rich environment. They will likely try & flee from other gates. Hopefully in the east where they are out of our way & hamper the T’au’s movements. Once we have a breach alert all personnel to increase pressure & pour all available units in. Once we are inside the fun part starts. We expect stiff resistance, barricades by conscripts. Murder holes, emplaced T’au turrets & every vehicle & battlesuit they can throw at us alongside infantry. This will be a war of Rats, warrens & destroyed buildings will become fortresses in their own right. My regiment is specialized in shock assault & hive warfare, this will be our element. Many of you I know it will be the same. I will make my headquarters in Alexia‘s Mercy Basilica as it’s old, large & sturdy & capable of holding what I need Being close enough to our lines in the north for further resupply. Our greatest challenge will be Aun’s Reach. This is the resident of the T’au Prelate Aun’Ui Vior’Shi, they will do anything to defend him. He is priority one, take him alive, if we do. We could force the entire system wide T’au force to surrender, We expect other Ethereal to be present as well, kill or take them alive if you can. That massive structure is the central nerve of the T’au forces here in the system. Speaking of Ethereal's there is a target of interest regarding that.
’He pointed to objective J.’
”This which we have dubbed Seekers Rest, is a facility reserved for a T‘any sub group called Yasu'caor or Seekers in gothic. This seems to be a philosophical concept but its administrative one is something analogous to an T’au equivalent of an Inquisition.“
‘There was a pause with such connotations.’
”It’s members are exclusively of the Ethereal caste & while I suggest you research them with data that can be provided, they will often be accompanied by retinues of varying backgrounds including there client races both of militant & other backgrounds. As such capturing this facility & its occupants would be a valuable asset. If needed I’m willing to provide rewards to the soldiers who bring them in, & no it would be open to units who assisted them as well equally. This mission may require a more subtle hand but I’m open to suggestions.”
“The T’au military commander is one named Stoneguard. There are other forces present alongside fellow T’au military leaders. Stoneguard believes in a patient hunter tactic of his species. He is patient & calculating & usually defensive, a dangerous combination for a defensive commander. Goad him as much as you can but do not fall for easy traps. Draw him in & lure him to situations he can’t win either way. We won’t take the city in one swift strike likely. But if we do this, we could cripple its defenses & make the other half much easier to take. I will now open the floor to discussion of tactics & methods for making this a reality.”
‘He sat down & let the projection stay.’
(Estimates for enemy forces to be determined. We should outnumber them in most scenarios but they will be dug in more often then not.)

2024.05.14 21:52 YOBaBeBiBoBuYO .

It's really not going to look like anything special tbh. The Vocab cards would just be the Spanish word on the front then, answer on the back with an example sentence and a contextualizing image or clip on the back... if relevant.

But I wasted alot of time curating a personalized example sentence for (almost) every single vocab word I discover. Key word is discover imo.

Right now my example sentences contain a simple concept I already comprehend, atleast within the context of that sentence, for the word that I am learning to be applied to. Like my lunes card is ´´lunes es antes martes´´. As I create the vocab cards I try to keep main vocab word part as the primary focus in usage and less that of the sentence itself for the sake of simplicity which means that the vocab card usually ends up as the first word of the sentence unless I personally see no reason actually care. Like another card I have that was luckily easy to make for desde is ´´el imperio de mongol duró desde a 1206 a 1368''. Every example I create is with words I already know or do not feel a remote need to understand - to understand the sentence. but IDK. Also I'm more concerned with audio than I am with imagery though. But If I could make the back into a really simple clip and very quickly that would be nice, but I dont care about imagery too much as most of it is going to end up in immersion anyways. Sound matters for me though. Sound is really so i can read something out loud before I hear what it sounds like, which helps me make comparisons and judge myself while I flag cards to make filtered decks out of later. And of course, for words that I already knew before starting studying I do not even consider making vocab cards out of as it will be fluff. completely random words like mañana or lanzar are weirdly glued to my head specifically because I have a specific memory with them. like for lanzar I watched a little game trailer and a text prompt showed up saying ''lanzar roca'' for this fucking kid to just launch a whole ass rock at a dude across a bridge. which is goofy as fuck. the game was called pedros adventures btw.

Also on the back of one of my vocab cards for the word 4th... I literally just put ''cuarto y cuarto'' fucking 10 times. because if you say cuarto 10x fast, it sounds like Squidward in Japanese which is fucking HILARIOUS.

But if I could imagine imagery in a specific way it would really just be for nouns and numbers... and anything that has a very concrete meaning with just an image. like for example, you could have a game where an image flashes on the screen and you need to translate that image in your head or if you want by typing it or speaking it out loud. And you get feedback for elements of the image relayed... but I haven't spent much time thinking about that kind of thing cos its not on any to do list, but it would be pretty cool.

its quite easy to curate examples as I'm watching these dreaming Spanish videos which is why id like to make some kind of sentence cards out of the clips. this is really because there is like a mix in my head between a sentence card and an example sentence on the back of a vocab card. Vocab cards are really the gateway for sentence cards imo. For any vocab card that has multiple definitions I need only create 1 vocab card for its primary use, and create sentence cards for its primary use and its different usages as I discover them through immersion. I can work out the nuance as I watch, read and write. and then as i immerse and gain enough vocabulary i will eventually bury more and more vocab cards and instead replace them with sentence cards. But of course, still using both in a balance.

And ideally, all of this comes from something I highly associate with in my head. As in English; for any single word and phrase and etc., I have in my subconscious a lil smth-smth associated with that word in so many ways that I do not even realize. But I do not care to understand the little neural networks, just as I do not care to actually develop some stupid ass grammatical understanding before I even begin speaking or listening. but only to just create a 24 7 immersive study environment conducive to an almost gamified consumption that gradually improves my abilities over time. Right now it feels like i'm just trying to make a build, and I cant even start grinding the way I want to. I have tidbits here and there but I haven't worked it out entirely.

And I do apologize if I seemed like there was friction between me and watching the dreaming Spanish videos when you had brought it up. it was just that as of now; everything I've been doing is just thinking of how to make this situation fairly seamless without needing any weird in-between steps just to do a single repetitive task. Like tagging and flagging cards is something you dont want to do manually, you want to do it with a key stroke or command. Books are easy to get, and I will be consuming the dreaming spanish videos now that I'm feeling how helpful they are compared to what I was doing before... Spanish dubs... alot of scrolling in tiktok... ALSO that one Spanish youtuber for chess called rey engima. He's like gotham chess but for Spanish which i absolutely love because I love chess and I needed a spanish way to consume it. Ive made alot of Spanish accounts for things and translated alot of UI into spanish. and I also downloaded urban VPN but i think that part was unnecessary asf.

But really the annoying thing was how to approach anki. also, that 4 hour video I linked is really just an oversimplified text book to just get a general idea of a concept. Which is all I care about. Things like grammar are terribly taught in classrooms and that video just goes about it in a way I really like, atleast compared to every other explanation ive seen. I planned to just do just 30 minutes per day on that video as I focused on other things. but I got caught up with other random shit and then I kind of just set that video to the side... which is why i only watched 20 minutes of it.

I am a really slow thinker, and things get to expedited when I get a foundation.

In regards to what I mean when I said 'gamified element'. I don't mean to say things like grind and such like this is some MMORPG. I mean gamified in the sense that I get some kind of gamified feedback or feeling in a dopamine inducing form that encourages me to do really weird things to lock in that I dont anyone actually does. Like if im at the microwave and the numbers are going down, im literally saying those numbers in Spanish as they go down because in the end the main goal is to entirely quit using English as a crutch for the language and reach a point where you need only convert your conceptualizations into language and vice versa i.e., other Spanish speakers. But gamified elements provide for me an extremely significant way for me to engage with the language that I also really enjoy... cos im a weirdo. Being able to see how long I've spent on each card and other visual inputs about the outputs of my efforts are also cool, especially if displayed in a consumable manner to increase my receptivity.

Anyways, hopefully I could at least give you an idea of what's going on in my head and what my goals are. This process has been poopoo stinky, and my brain is very poo poo stinky.

2024.05.14 21:51 highpilerug Podcasts about daily life/arts/music scenes in (European?) places

I'm looking for podcasts that might episodically explore ecosystems of culture in a certain place, involving local artists, musicians, or shops and galleries, or even just interviews with locals about daily life.
I'm generally looking for ones based on places like Barcelona, Mallorca, Valencia, or Marseilles, because I got to travel around there recently and I'd love to learn more about those places. However if there's any podcasts like this about other regions, I'd love to hear about it! I'm interested in music and art stuff generally, maybe where I can get some cool new music recommendations
I suspect what I'm looking for might be uncommon, because I'm looking for kind of a niche podcast oriented toward English speakers from non-English-speaking places... but if you can think of anything even vaguely related, I'd really appreciate it 😁 thanks! The future goal for me is to learn more languages so I can explore more pods lol

2024.05.14 21:29 moonshinelor Meet me at the Fair.

One of my favourite episodes, something different is going on with everyone. I must admit I quite like Cass, although indeed a "Devil with the Ladies." I see people criticise Mary for "running off with him because he had money." Which wasn't at all the case, Mary was initially reluctant but Patrick himself told her to go with Cass, she then seems to sincerely take to him, despite his flawed character and treatment of Patrick, Cass is very sincere to Mary. Mary seems uncomfortable when Patrick offers to win her a doll but thrilled and charmed with Cass. Was Mary falling for Cass and distancing from Patrick? Well lucky for Patrick he severed Cass's prize ballon because Mary saw his real side and she and Patrick were once again. You opinions on the Episode and love triangle?

2024.05.14 21:24 Anubis_ACX Lost media found. The Lounge People (1992)

About a year ago I stumbled upon a lost piece of cinematic history that was presumed to have been lost to time. I managed to locate a VHS copy, digitize, and upload it to the Internet Archive. Unfortunately the only copy I could find came from an online second hand market. The VHS was purchased and shipped from Barcelona Spain, and as such the movie was a Spanish DUB, so the original English DUB is still lost. If you're interested in the entire story of the struggle of tracking down and locating the movie, you can read all about it at: old movies post
The movie in question, titled "The Lounge People" or "Los Holgazanes" in its Spanish title, was released back in 1992. It's a direct to TV movie that, from what I can tell, was never released in any physical way in the USA and only received one in international markets. Considering the time it was produced, I'm not exactly sure why. Some has speculated online that it was re-run on TV so many times in the early days of HBO, that the producers didn't believe it would recover the cost of production.
If you'd like to watch this enigmatic movie, you can find both the original VHS rip and my attempt at an Ai remaster on Internet Archive: archive.org
My goal in recovering this movie is to offer closure and satisfaction to all the fans and film enthusiasts who have been looking for it in the past. By doing this, I hope to contribute to the preservation and appreciation one more piece of lost media.

2024.05.14 21:10 Remarkable_Double195 Recommendations for thrillers/suspense movies but dubbed in Hindi.

My father is a huge fan of this genre and he just keeps trying more and more movies in this genre. But because he doesn’t understand English he can’t watch a lot of them. He’s also not that great with reading subtitles so he prefers Hindi dubbed movies. I try to find him good movies but can’t find a lot so I thought it’d be a good idea to put it up here and find some recommendations datipns for him.

2024.05.14 20:54 HospitalGullible3087 Lack of accountability

I’ve been feeling this way basically all season, (and don’t get me wrong, I know the fellas have had their fair share of selfish moments) but it seems like the main ladies of the show almost never get held accountable for any of their faults. Now I could be falling victim to recency bias, but it seems that the girls get to do whatever they want without any repercussions with how they handle their relationships:
Ex 1: Olivia emotionally cheats on Spencer the whole year or more that they’re apart, leading Ashley on the entire time. Then when she’s had her fun and is ready to come home to her relationship, Spencer just lets it slide (even though she told him to his face that she feels more herself away from him and with another dude, AND that she wants to go back). Then Ashley is just kicked to the curb and demonized as some weirdo that can’t respect boundaries.
Ex: 2 Layla blatantly disregards her extremely supportive boyfriend during the biggest year of his life (professionally), even missing his first playoff game to “handle” a situation the police were already handling. Not to mention lying about taking her medicine even though she more than happy to discuss it with her work buddy. Even after all this Jordan still ends up being the one to apologize to Layla, despite his only wrongdoing being not trusting her fully despite her providing him no reason to do so.
Ex 3: This one isn’t even about brunt held accountable, it’s more like a wtf moment with Jamie and Asher. Why is she blowing up at a Asher for taking a slight risk to his health to follow his football dreams, to the point where he had to give them up for her?? She literally took a risk herself just last season having that baby with no medicine and he supported her the whole time? Especially since half the reason she was mas is bc Asher made a decision without consulting her, despite Layla doing the same thing to Jordan with no consequences.
I get the show is now centered around the “coming of age” for all of the main cast (even though it should be about Spencer’s journey to the NFL), but it seems like the girls never have to learn from their mistakes and instead get bailed out by the male characters’ unconditional forgiveness. Even patience this episode gets bailed out of a completely irrational and horrible decision she made to confront Miko at her house with a firearm!! The only people displaying any type of maturity or character development are the guys!?? (except Coop) Which sucks since this , presumably is the final season.

2024.05.14 20:44 starbuck8415 Boomer arrogance in full flight

Sitting in my usual coffee shop, working away, minding my own business. Two boomer ladies sitting at the next table even though the place is dead
One is an American friend visiting her English friend.
Quietly over the radio comes on Jessica by the Allman Brothers Band (or more well known in the uk as the Top Gear theme) and they get into a discussion about who this song was by.
American friend tells her, and her English friend says “no it’s not” and for some reason, looks up at me.
I catch her eye and even though I’m typing away with headphones in, the English friend wants me to stop and asks me who I think did the song.
I tell her it’s the Allman Brothers to which she looks at me in such anger (think, pissed on her Christmas presents, level of fury) and tells me “no it isn’t you are wrong.”
Meanwhile her friend is gently teasing her that she was right all along.
Again, the English friend asks who I think did it (as if I’m going to suddenly change my original answer) and after I repeat myself, she barks at me “well, I don’t believe you!” To which I reply “I don’t really care” and carry on typing.
Despite having two people telling her, she still carries on with such vitriol, adamant that we are incorrect, yet offers absolutely no other suggestion as to who it could be. Just that we are absolutely wrong.
Now, I’ve got shit to do and bills to pay, so I don’t carry on any further in this inane conversation but the owner of the coffee shop has also overheard and agrees it’s the song we have said. He then googles it and tells her exactly the same.
She sits there gobsmacked. Not at the idea it is said band but simply that she could possibly be wrong. It genuinely hadn’t occurred to her.
She then gets the right hump and starts verbally laying into her friend that “no one likes Americans because they are pompous and arrogant” and “just because she was right, she shouldn’t gloat.”
The lack of self awareness is just astounding. Also, I don’t think anyone in the past 30 years has discussed the Allman brothers band to such an extent and i well and truly reached my knowledge limit on them today.

2024.05.14 20:01 Lordzoot Good Habits? A Review of Habit Rouge EDT, Rouge Prive and the Parfum

For many, Guerlain’s Habit Rouge represents a high watermark in perfumery. Since its original release in 1965, the composition has been beloved by gentlemen (and ladies) across the world. It is also a well known favourite of many of the most well regarded perfume historians and reviewers out there and, because of that, one could well argue that there is precious little further useful opinion that can be added to the existing cannon (and they may well be right!).
Still, Jean-Paul Guerlain’s multi-faceted composition has been no stranger to a remix over the years and, since Delphine Jelk took over from Thierry Wasser as in-house perfumer at the historic French house, she has managed to deliver a staggering three new takes on the fragrance in as many years. What better opportunity could there be, therefore, to undertake both a reappraisal of the original release and, in doing so, compare it to some of the new kids on the block? Note: I have not sampled the first of Jelk’s flankers, 2022’s Habit Rouge L'Instinct but, given the almost unanimous negativity surrounding it, it’s not high on my hit list! We’ll be looking at Rouge Prive and the Parfum today.
Habit Rouge EDT (1965)
The concept behind Habit Rouge (or ‘Red Coat’, if translated in to English from its native language) was to create a perfume that brought to mind the jackets worn by the landed gentry when they went hunting. In the UK, we’re no stranger to this nefarious practice - our own fox hunting aristocrats also wore red coats and, despite now being banned, the idea of chasing helpless creatures to their deaths is still a subject of debate in our national politics (with right wing politicians often promising to offer a ‘free vote’ to MPs on the issue to energise their base).
As an animal lover myself, this is perhaps the only element of Habit Rouge I find somewhat jarring. There is nothing within this perfume which brings to mind sport, adrenaline, blood, or violence. I find it somewhat curious, consequently, that Guerlain sought to relate it to hunting. The only thing wearers of Habit Rouge were likely to be chasing on its release were sexual partners!
That statement isn’t made wholly in jest either. Habit Rouge is a gentleman’s fragrance, but it carries within its structure not only aspects of formality and traditional masculinity, but also sensuality and sensitivity. It is, as such, a fragrance well suited to old fashioned romantics. Indeed, if it didn’t have these traits, I’d argue that it wouldn’t have survived for the almost 60 years that it has. When you think about it, it’s almost incredible that, despite how radically concepts of masculinity have changed over the years, Habit Rouge has still been a regular seller for Guerlain, with devotees now spanning across 5 generations.
Created to be the younger brother to the company’s 1925 release, Shalimar it, like its sibling, contains a citrus top note, which descends into a floral heart, before culminating in a vanillic leather and amber base. Habit Rouge is not simply a three card trick, however, and its complete run of notes can be summarised as follows (as per Basenotes):
Top Notes: bergamot, lemon, rosewood, basil, pimento
Heart Notes: sandalwood, carnation, patchouli, cedar, rose, cinnamon
Base Notes: vanilla, amber, moss, leather, benzoin, labdanum, olibanum
When it comes to the head of the perfume, the real star of the show is the bergamot, which radiates wonderfully off the skin when first sprayed. Whilst it is effervescent, though, it is also a powdery affair. In fact, it can most accurately be described as being akin to orange sherbet - fizzing whilst maintaining a chalkiness. It is warm and reassuring as opposed to enthusiastic. It also maintains a cologne like structure, however, by incorporating herbal and spicy notes through the use of basil and rosewood.
This accord is then joined to a rose and carnation-dominant middle phase, through which the powdered facets of the fragrance continue to run, and through which the fragrance begins to show its romantic side.
Finally, the dry down of the fragrance provides a semi-sweet backdrop with the vanilla taking the edge away from the traditionally masculine moss and leather accords and combining with the rest of the ingredients to produce a soft, light amber.
It is not hard to see, in this context, why Habit Rouge has continued to be successful over the years - it, essentially, captures hearts and minds because it resonates with the personality of its wearer in a way that other traditional masculine fragrances can sometimes struggle to do (as they were often, like their owners of the period, more buttoned up).
Habit Rouge - Rouge Prive (2023)
That doesn’t mean that the EdT of Habit Rouge smells like it was composed yesterday, however. It just means that it has aged like a fine wine as opposed to being the perfume equivalent of a kipper tie. In fact, if it were any item of clothing, I’d compare it to a 1960s slim lapelled suit - of its time, but still stylish today.
Still, as the years have gone by, the term ‘legibility’ has become more and more important in the perfume industry, and there now seems to be a distinct trend towards the creation of perfumes whose formulas are more streamlined than Habit Rouge. Or to put it another way, perfumers are being encouraged to reduce the number of notes in a perfume’s composition, with the aim of producing a more direct product. For lovers of vintage fragrances, legibility can be an anathema but, personally, I have no issue with the principle behind the concept. Nor it appears, does Delphine Jelk. Enter Habit Rouge Rouge Prive.
Top Notes:Bergamot, Ginger
Middle Notes: Orange Blossom, Iris
Base Notes: Leather, Patchouli, Vanilla
As can be seen from the notes list, Rouge Prive maintains the structure of Habit Rouge (bergamot, floral, vanillic leather), but switches out or culls a number of the traditional accords that were contained within the original. Gone are the cologne-esque elements. Gone too are the powdery rose and carnation. The leather, meanwhile, has been amped up and modernised - more akin to Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather than Knize 10. Whisper it quietly, but it also seems that Jelk has snuck an oud accord in to the base too.
Given the number of changes, you could be forgiven for thinking that Rouge Prive would end up smelling completely different to the EdT, but fans of the OG need not worry - this is still unmistakably Habit Rouge. To paraphrase Persolaise (my favourite reviewer of perfumes), it’s like the whole perfume has simply been redrawn with clean bold lines. The bergamot continues to shimmer and, in spite of the florals being listed as Orange Blossom and Iris, the ultimate accord generated is still interpreted by my nose as being a rose. It is very much a rouge perfume as opposed to an orange or purple one (which is, incidentally, roughly what you get if you combine an iris hue and orange on a colour wheel…).
Where Rouge Prive differs to the EdT is in its brute strength. The leather note really does have a serious kick to it and, given that, the perfume is pulled from the bottom up, as opposed to the top diffusing off the skin to reveal the heart.
Whilst I’ve always found the EdT to perform quite well, the longevity of the Prive is genuinely outstanding, again due to the material in the base. Pleasingly though, the dry down still does maintain the powdered amber facets contained within the original. It’s a superb flanker that updates Habit Rouge without necessarily ripping up the original composition.
Habit Rouge Parfum (2024)
Not to rest on their laurels, Guerlain have now revisited Habit Rouge again in 2024, introducing a parfum version to go alongside new stablemates Vetiver Parfum and L’Homme Ideal Parfum.
I’ll say in advance that I’m a little sceptical of the allure of parfums myself, as I often find that the actual performance difference between fragrance concentrations can be completely counter-intuitive (I have EdTs that vastly out-perform EDPs and Parfums, both in terms of silage and longevity). In addition, given that Rouge Prive was already quite beastly, the necessity for a parfum to be made only a year later seems curious to me.
Parking those views for the moment though, the theme across these three new releases appears to be alcohol. In the case of Habit Rouge, the drink of choice is listed as rum, although there seems to be confusion in that regard, with Jelk being quoted in the marketing as saying:
For Habit Rouge Le Parfum, I Created a leathery vanilla liqueur with plenty of bold bourbon-inspired intensity
Perhaps Guerlain are suggesting that the perfume has been matured in bourbon casks? Hmm. In any event, the notes list for this one is as follows:
Bergamot, Vanilla, Rum, Patchouli
Well, I did say perfumers were streamlining their notes list, didn’t I!
What’s most striking to me about the Parfum is, firstly, how base heavy it is (we’re talking sub-woofer level) but, secondly, how patchouli dominant it is - there’s a definite chocolate element in that respect, but my nose also detects something slightly medicinal, smoked, and perhaps even burnt (think coffee beans). When combined with the vanilla, the result is a perfume that very much lies within the domain of the gourmand.
This is somewhat a blessing and a curse - if you’re not a particular fan of the EdT or Prive’s floral elements, you’re likely to get along a lot better with the Parfum. At the same time though, I’d argue that the floral heart of Habit Rouge is, to a large extent, key to its DNA, and vastly reducing the components that make this element ‘sing’ lead to a very different fragrance profile.
My second critique is that the perfume, generally, feels less balanced than Rouge Prive. I have no issue with the concept of a Habit Rouge that focuses on patchouli - readers of my previous pieces will know that I’m a huge fan of the note - I just wished that, on a technical level, the Parfum still maintained a decent top end. As it is, the whole thing sits very deep against the skin, with any radiance from the bergamot being buried by the heavier materials. This ultimately leads to a fragrance that, rather than being a sparkling rouge, comes across as a heavy-set chocolate and beige. Because of that, I can’t decide whether or not I’ve truly fallen for the Parfum.
That being said, you honestly couldn’t go wrong with any one of these three and I’ve no doubt they’ll appeal to different elements of the fragrance market. I look forward to Jelk’s next flanker in 2025, even if these variations are becoming a little bit akin to Marge Simpson’s Chanel jacket…!

2024.05.14 19:48 TheSynthwaveGamer The Brothers Sun - looking for fans to appear on a small audio podcast

Hi all
I am shortly releasing a podcast episode about the TV show The Brothers Sun.
In the past we've done a few guest episodes where we invite fans on to the show and we talk about films, actors and the guest gives us their opinion on that particular topic.
I would like to do something similar and post a follow-up episode(s) to the The Brothers Sun episode where I interview a few guests.
I will write and share a list of questions beforehand and send these to you via email. I'll also include what software you will need access to (Skype and Audacity - both are free).
I can arrange a 30 minute pre-recording session to go through any questions you might have about the recording process and show you the basics of Audacity.
You will need to answer the questions and send these back to our email, as these form the show notes on our website. You can document your answers in full detailed sentences or a few bullet points to capture the pertinent points.
You will need to be English speaking and have access to a laptop/computer and preferably a microphone and headset. Webcam is optional, as we only release audio podcasts episodes. We had a couple of guests who recorded via their iPhone and the audio wasn't great.
We've recorded guests from across the US, Canada and a couple of countries in Europe. We are UK based, but happy to schedule a time that is convenient for both of us.
We are a very small podcast but we do have listeners across a few continents (Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania).
If you're interested please send me a DM or reply to this post. Thanks.
I've included a couple of links for when the episode comes out (releases at midnight UK time).
