I didn't realize I was petty until I started watching your videos a couple years ago. It's helped me realize the spectrum of hypocrisy and karma with people and how they handle things. Not saying that petty is a bad thing, I just always try to stay accountable in my actions even when they are petty and I try to do so without self hatred or too much criticism. I think it's important to stay accountable to your actions. l believe in karma and you get what you give so l try to stay humble in my pettiness. 😈

I know I am the a hole and I'm a proud a hole because I got really sick of being pushed down and decided to take action. I believe in the power of the Universe from a spiritual standpoint and I believe in trying to do the right thing but I wont always do the right thing when I'm getting hurt and the other person is getting away with their bullshit. this isn't always the case because I do the right thing when the amount of energy is matchable and I know I can accommodate the situation in a healthy way. This is my ideal situation but if I feel it's getting out of hand and there's no accommodation for me then I'm not afraid to be petty. This might be some Kane and Abel shit.
My brothe 30 has always blamed me for his problems ever since we were kids. Even jumping on the bed as kids and having fun, he fell off and blamed me for his injury when he broke his collarbone. My sick and dysfunctional family believed him over me (like they always do no matter how much l stand up for myself in truth🙄) and it has still followed me to this day in a joking manner so he can "get away with it". Jokes can be disguises for many things including jealousy and petty brothers.
Anyway, he is getting married in Mexico and l am happy for him. We have never been close except when we were delusion children and he has cut contact with me for about 5 years now. He fakes it when he sees me and plays my mom and dad to be "the good guy" but l see right thru him and when l call him out, he doubles down. Not ok, don't fuck with the goat. 🐐♑️
l have done everything in my power to alleviate the situation and make things right. All the situations... he has taken my power and ran in many, many cases. He has never apologized for his actions or how he treats my parents. l am the oldest daughter and if you fuck with them, you fuck with me. l have never been afraid to show him that. l think he secretly hates me and l don't give a fuck!
His wedding invitation came in the mail after a grand manipulation. Since he cut me off, and my parents for a short time until he needed something 🙄he did not have my address. He constantly complained how I'm needy and couldn't live on my own and when l finally did, he couldn't be happy for me and bashed me. He even manipulated my mom into thinking it was my fault l couldn't but l just lost my fiancé and moved home.She yelled at me on multiple separate occasions because of what he told her, it felt very abusive. He kicks people when theyre down and did the same thing to my mom when she was bedridden and that's when he said she had munchausens by proxy and yelled at her. l think this is a projection of how he feels and he is rein-acting his trauma, but just because you have trauma doesn't mean you can be an asshole! such a baby bro move but he's not a loss.
l saw this all coming a mile a way and no one listened. l tried to tell multiple family members and no one listened, they only listened when l stopped talking.
Needless to say, the second l got his invitation, l ripped it up and threw it in the trash. I'm not sorry. l went along with plans with my parents to protect them and when l told them l didn't get it.... and was trying to protect them from this situation (because l actually give a shit about people and their feelings) they got mad 🥲 tha fukkk this is why l turned evil lol but since l was faking l took it on my chin.
Update: l recently told my parents l did get the invitation and it was a couple buildings down along with the save the date. Since it was such a problem for my brother to even be happy for his sister to get her shit together after a really hard time, boss up and move out (which l have been doing for about 3 years) l got petty. Everything l have ever done is a problem to him and that's not my problem.
l texted him l got the invite and replied yes.
Keep in mind, he hasn't talked to me for years and never texts me back. So l got wise and decided to play his game and completely detach from this fucker. It's May and his wedding is at the end of the year. He told my parents he couldn't accommodate me and not to come. He texted them....
l wasn't going to go anyway, but this is exactly the behavior l am talking about. l know l may have hurt my parents but l am putting that on my brother and adding to his pile. He can't even text me back. It's been 5 years and l think it's safe to say our relationship is over. Ive made peace with that and it's for the better at this point. My parents are having a hard time with it but l dont blame them and try to be understanding of them even if it hurts me. l think that's real love. And codependency lol
l decided to move on without him. l will never understand him and why he is so cruel in this because it's so painful. lt took everything for me to walk away. l could never do that to my parents, l don't know how he did. He has always needed someone to blame and l am that person for him. I've finally accepted that and if you want a chess match, prepare for check mate.

As I do this I look back at my email address, created when I was about 8, and know for a fact there are some account I don't remember tied to it. Is there a way to find and remove these accounts? I have considered just deleting the email, but usually an linked accounts or activity still remains up and active. The account is yahoo mail.

I’m here today writing a “Day in a Life” blog post because someone asked me to. I cannot imagine this is interesting, but Redditors tend to surprise me so let’s do this. Morning Routine Like many of us, mornings are when I take care of all the dependent lifeforms under my command. Get in an hour or so of video games (Unicorn Overlord currently) for my mental health. Feed the coterie of beasts (including the children), make coffee for the wife and me, prep the kids for school. Catch up on Colbert (my news needs comedy otherwise darkness consumes), check out what’s been happening on Medium and Reddit, and read a few of my favorite cybersecurity / engineering mail lists. Crack open the ol’ calendar and see what my ratio of “get shit done” to “help other people get shit done” is in store for my day. All roughly before 8am. And the beauty of working for a Bay Area company (if we can call it that, we’re so remote friendly) is that I normally have a precious few hours before people in SF wake up to get things done. Daily Tasks Each morning has a brief reflection of what I need to get done that day. I’m a big fan of the Eisenhower Method to figure out what I actually need to prioritize in my day. It’s exceedingly rare that I get a majority of my day focused on work that I’ve initiated, so prioritizing activities from code review and pull request feedback to architectural systems design reviews to pair programming requests from the team to random break/fix fires that pop up, all of that gets organized so I feel like I’m (at least trying) to do the most impactful work for the day. Reddit has a few systems to help drive queues of work: Jira for planned work and “big rock” items that we’re trying to accomplish for that quarter, Harold (an in-house developed shame mechanism) for code review and deployment, and Launch Control (Reddit’s flavor of Google’s LaunchCal) for architecture design reviews. Plenty of potential dopamine hits as “things to get done.” Meetings It’s exceedingly rare that I have meetings that could have been an email (and if I do, they’re almost always vendor meetings). A lot of what my meetings tend to focus on are around conflict resolutions across teams as we try to achieve different goals or drive consensus to resolve problems that come up on various programs teams are trying to deliver. Working on Security, you can often get perceived as the “Department of No”, but in every meeting I work hard to make sure that isn’t the case. It starts with getting a shared context of what is the problem at hand, understanding the outcomes that we need to drive toward and inputs into the problem (timelines, humans, trade offs), and deciding how we move forward. Meetings are a terrible way to convey decisions as they are only as good as the individuals that remember them, so lots of these meetings are centered around decision docs or technical design reviews. Capturing your rationale for a decision not only helps make sure you understand the problem (if you can’t write about it, it’s hard to think about it), but also helps capture the whys and rationale behind those decisions for future you and other product and engineering staff. There’s also meetings that I live for, those that are building up humans. We have biweekly SPACE (Security, Privacy, and Compliance Engineering) brown bags where we talk about new things we’ve shipped or some training topic that upskills all of us. We have biweekly threat modeling meetings where we pick a topic/scenario and go through a threat modeling exercise live, which helps build the muscle memory of how to do technical diagramming, and helps build a shared context of how the system works, what our risk appetite is, and how various team members think about the problem providing multiple viewpoints to the discussion (honestly the most valuable component). As a Principal Engineer, I’m keenly aware of my humanity and the fact that I do not scale in my efforts alone: training and building up future PEs is how I scale myself (at least until cloning becomes more readily available). Ubiquity One of my super powers is being everything everywhere all at once, or so I’ve been told by my fellow Snoos. I’ve been told that I have an uncanny knack to be in so many Slack channels and part of so many threads of discussion that it’s “inhuman”. Being a damn fine security engineer is hard because not only do you have to have the understanding and context of the thing you’re trying to secure, but also know how to actually secure the thing. This is nigh impossible if you don’t know what’s going on in your business (and we’re still “small enough” size-wise that this is still possible for one human), so I’ve got Slack keyword alerts, channel organization, and a giant 49” ultrawide monitor that has a dedicated Slack tiled window to keep me plugged in and accessible. I also have developed over many years my response to pings from Slack: “Can I solve this problem, if not who can? Is this something I should solve or can I delegate? Can this be answered async with good quality, or is a larger block of dedicated time required to solve? Is this thread too long and needs a different approach?” This workflow is second nature to me and helps me move around the org. I’ve also been here almost 5 years and, as I’m in Security and have to know everything about everything to secure anything (which I don’t, but I am a master of Googling, learning, and listening), I’ve been exposed to pretty much everything in our engineering sphere. With that knowledge comes great power of helping connect teams together that wouldn’t have connected otherwise. Do Security Stuffs Occasionally I actually get to do “security” things. These past two quarters it’s been launching Reddit’s “unified access control” solution leveraging Cloudflare Zero Trust, moving us off old crusty Nginx OAuth proxies onto a modern system that has such groundbreaking things like Not everything is 0s and 1s, however. A lot of security is process, paperwork, and persistence. Designing workflow approval processes for how an IAM flow should look like. Reviewing IT corporate policies for accuracy and applicability. Crafting responses to potential advertisers’ IT teams on “how secure is Reddit, really”. Writing documentation for how an engineering system works and how other engineers should interact with it. Updating runbooks with steps on how others should respond to an incident or page. Building Grafana dashboards to quantify and visualize how a tooling rollout is working. Providing consulting on product features like authentication / authorization business logic across services. Interviewing, not only for my own team but also within other engineering and cross-functional areas of the business. End of Day Routine Eventually, I run out of time in the day as I’m beckoned away from my dark, cave-like, Diet Coke strewn office by the promise of dinner. Wrapping up document review, (hopefully) crossing things off my to-do list, and closing out Slack threads for the day, I try to pack everything up and not carry it with me after work. It’s challenging being an almost completely remote company with a heavy presence in the West Coast, as pings and notifications come in as dinner and kids’ bedtime happens. But I know not everything can be finished in a day, some things will slip, and there will always be more work tomorrow. Which is juxtaposed occasionally with bouts of imposter syndrome, even for someone as senior and tenured as I am. Happens to all of us. After-hours work is restricted to on-call duty and pet projects. You don’t want to know how many on-call queues I’m secondary escalation on. Or how many Single Point of Securimancers services that I still own (looking at you, Reddit onion service). And pet projects are typically things that I’ve got desires to do: prototyping security solutions we want to look into, messing with my k8s homelab, doing routine upgrades. Nothing clears the mind like watching semver numbers go up (until you find the undocumented change that breaks everything). Future Outlook And finally, what's on the horizon for our little SPACE team? We’re still a small team coming out of IPO, and our greatest super power is networking and influencing our engineering peers. We got our ISO 27001 and SOC2 Type 2 last year and continue to ever increase scope and complexity of public accreditation. We’re close partners with our Infrastructure and IT teams to modernize our tech and continue to evolve our capabilities in host and network security, data loss prevention, and security observability. We’ve got two wonderful interns from YearUp that started and are going to be with us this summer, and we continue to focus on improving our team composition (more women and diversity, more junior folks and less singleton seniors). I’m sorry if this is not the right place for this, but I recently upgraded from and iPhone 11 to and iPhone 14 and everything with the transfer went fine, but since using my new phone I no longer get notifications from my yahoo mail app about emails. If I go into the app, all my new emails pop up at one time and when exiting the app the red bubble with how many unread emails I have shows up, but that’s only after I open the app. It sends me no notifications and does not put the red bubble on the app icon unless I open the app. I checked and I have notifications turned on for yahoo mail both through my iPhone settings and the settings on the yahoo mail app, so I’m at a loss for what to do next. Last week my laptop was working fine. I went to access a file in my OneDrive account and was unable to open it. All other files were accessible. Restarted my computer to hopefully resolve the problem. Since then a few things have happened:
1) I cannot log into my OneDrive account - Everytime I enter my login information it reprompts me to enter it The error code is 8004de44 which indicates a connection is being blocked. I updated to Sonoma 14.4 and still does not work.
2) My Mail app keeps signing me out of both of my email accounts (gmail, Microsoft Outlook) after a few hours. Never had this issue before which makes me think this is all related
3) I created a guest profile and OneDrive is able to work on that profile.
This is my work computer and I have had my IT people look at it and they can't figure out the issue other than thinking something is blocking the connection based on the error code from OneDrive. Their suggestion is to wipe my laptop and start fresh. I want to avoid doing that if at all possible.
I only really use this laptop for work so am careful with what apps and program I install on it and can't think what I could have done to cause this. I disabled the firewall, antivirus, and enabled auto proxy discovery based on a suggestion. Is there anything else I might be missing to try?

A friend of mine and reader asked me a question about this beautiful flowering shrub that she saw on the edge of Jeromesville a number of years ago that she would pass by on her way to Hayesville regularly. This plant was growing in a large pot and had the biggest trumpet shaped blooms that she had ever seen and were there yet again this past summer. I had seen this same huge shrub on many trips that I made driving towards Mansfield. She asked me what it was and what I could tell her about this plant. This plant was at least 8 feet and maybe 10 feet tall with maybe 18 inches to 24 inches long beige and another was pink trumpet flowers.
This past week I got and email from Ethiopia by one of my readers. He came across my column and enjoyed this article and was in the process of buying some for his own yard. The question he asked me was whether this plant was safe or not? I want all my friends that are growing them to know that this plant is well worth growing and with a normal number of constraints you should have no problems growing this plant.
My parents had two different Angel’s Trumpets, or Brugmansia spp, for more than 10 years, which is what this plant is. One was a pink flower, and the other was a white flower. These were both fairly easy to grow for my parents and the white blossomed plant had a very pleasant, sweet scent with a little lemon overtone during the summer evenings. From what my parents said they did like the plants but was a challenge for them to constantly haul the small tree into the house each season. The ones that my parents kept were 4 - 6 feet tall. I remember moving them more than once.
There are good things and bad things to this beautiful plant. This Angel’s Trumpet is a member of the Night Shade family, which means that it can be poisonous. Some plant experts consider the Angel’s Trumpet the most poisonous plant of all tropical plants you may grow. Let’s not sugar coat this fact, if you eat even small amounts of this plant as an adult you could die a very painful death. Personally, I want to spare you the way that the tropane alkaloids affect a person who has eaten any portion of this plant. But these alkaloids are called scopolamine, atropine, and hyoscyamine. One of the other things we need to know is that most of these alkaloids are serious medicines in the hands of our doctors when applied properly. As I have said my parents kept 2 different Angel’s Trumpets for over 10 years and had all kinds of grandkids and great grandkids around these plants and never had any poisonous plant problems, besides most kids know not to eat tomato plants and just eat the tomato. Don’t let the kids play with the plants. All said and done I would use caution as I would care for this plant and dish gloves. The rewards are an incredible flower and an amazing scent. I remember the challenges and the rewards were worth it for me. A report from the National Library of Medicine says that from 1978 – 2013 there were only 10 cases of hospitalization because of a mistake in an herbal tea mix worldwide. Most parents will be careful in handling this plant and provide for the safety measures required.
The Angel’s Trumpet is a heavy feeder and does the best with organic fertilizers. My parents having grown two different Brugmansias found that they did the best with worm castings and kelp as a bi-weekly mild fertilizing routine. Best thing to keep in mind is that this plant will be producing a large bloom and will need fed. These small to medium trees can grow up from 3 to 35 feet tall in its native areas from Chile to Argentina. From the latest information this plant is extinct in their native ranges. When we grow these plants in pots, you will have to prune it. Tomatoes and Angel’s Trumpet are both easy to start from cuttings, which means that starts or cuttings from this plant should root fairly easily. Therefore, you can pass out cuttings from this plant fairly easily and have new ones to back it up.
I remember moving these 5 feet tree called the Angel’s Trumpet in through my parent’s front door through the dining room through the hall and into the living room. After 35+ years of doing this sort of thing we have developed systems for moving these plants, but it never has been super easy. Because this plant does root so easily if you could root them in the spring, you wouldn’t have to drag them into the house every winter, if you start them from cuttings.

I spent more than a dozen hours past days struggling really hard with this topic.Out of nowhere, my iptables rules to NAT a public business IP to my email server broke 2 days ago, after having worked flawlessly since more than a year. Obviously, without doing anything (few weeks I haven’t logged on the said servers).
My requirements are pretty simple: I need to be able to manage an entire public IP address into my server running my email services (let’s call it Srv). The IP address comes from a small public subnet associated and routed to a micro VPS used as entrypoint (VPS). Both are connected to the same tailnet.
For this, I’ve set up those 4 iptables rules:
On the forums, I kept seeing people solving this issue with Funnel. However, I need to get the entire PubIP to Srv somehow (for the mail server at least). To my understanding, Funnel only allows exposing one port, more suited for web proxying, and restricted to TCP.
Is there a proper way to route or NAT an unused public IP from a Tailscale node to another?

-A PREROUTING -d [PubIP]/32 -p tcp -j DNAT --to-destination [TsIP] -A PREROUTING -d [PubIP]/32 -p udp -j DNAT --to-destination [TsIP] -A POSTROUTING -s [TsIP]/32 -j SNAT --to-source [PubIP] -A OUTPUT -d [PubIP]/32 -p tcp -j DNAT --to-destination [TsIP]However, I noticed a few weird behaviors:
- Tailscale is messing up with the iptables rules, so I can’t apply my rules as I did without erasing Tailscale’s
- When applying the rules, it works for a while (2 to 20 minutes) before breaking. When it breaks, I have to restart Tailscale daemon on Srv, and at the same time reoverwrite iptables rules…
- adjusting iptables rules to not mess too much with Tailscale’s
- launching with --snat-subnet-routes=false
- instead of NATing, trying to route the public IP directly to Srv
- updating Tailscale ACLs to allow traffic from the internet to the tailnet (which ended up with an error "autogroup:internet" not valid on the src side of a rule)
