Salvatore's Counter @ Irwin's

2024.06.07 21:52 wpd999 Salvatore's Counter @ Irwin's

I did the Salvatore's Counter experience back in March at Irwin's, and had a great time!
It started off with a call from their concierge about a week or so before the dinner to chat about what I might be interested in, just to toss around ideas, where I went into a few different foods I was interested in having. They asked about childhood food experiences that were memorable, which kind of goes with the theme of the counter (it's named after Chef Michael Ferreri's dad, and uses napkins, tableware, etc from his family). Also talked about beverage pairings, and went with half cocktails/half wine.
It was a few months ago, so I'm a bit fuzzy on a few details, but remember it as a really delicious, bespoke dinner:
  1. House-cured sardine, fennel, citrus(?) on toast. A traditional Sicilian preparation. The fish was nice and mild and played very well with the fennel.
  2. Razor clam with hazelnut and coconut. Wonderful combination of flavors. Served with a cocktail that Damian, their wonderful bartender, encouraged us to drink via the clam shells as a shooter.
  3. Caviar on whitebait fish and potato pancake. I mentioned loving potato pancakes freshly made at the fairs I would go to as a kid. And how it would be wonderful as an adult to tart that up with some caviar--and there it was!!! Delicious.
  4. Chicken oyster covered with bruleed foie-Alpine cheese sabayon. Another childhood memory of having house-made, decadent chicken pot pies at the local diner. A very tasty, elevated take on that idea! Absolutely stunning.
  5. Gnudi with mushroom(?) and thyme (?). Well made pasta, but can't remember all the details. The cocktail/wine buzz was beginning, lol
  6. Spaghetti All'Assassina. I had mentioned just discovering the existence of the a regional traditional Italian preparation of spaghetti, and that I had never seen it in the States. Chef Michael's version was great! Spicy, and with an amazing texture.
  7. Grilled John Dory, caviar buerre blanc, Manilla clams, almonds. Decadent, perfectly cooked and delicious, nothing much more to add.
  8. Blood orange sorbet, bay leaf cream. Served in a blood orange shell. Great palate cleanser. Simple, direct and delicious.
  9. Frozen foie over fiore di latte with salted caramel. I mentioned to the concierge I wasn't a dessert person, but loved savory elements in desserts. What Chef Michael came up with here was outstanding, and a perfect ending.
Not pictured: a lovely cheese course pre-dessert, and the take home pastry, amaro and note from the chef.
Would gladly do this again and again, and it is customized every seating for every party. Of course at just a few openings a month, it is very hard to book. Wine and cocktails we also well-curated and on the mark, plus Michael is a lot of fun to talk to as he's preparing and overseeing the meal.

2024.06.07 21:48 EatThemReindeer A “Vegas Experience” Post

June 3rd to 6th, 2024 Leading up to our Vegas trip, one of the things I enjoyed most was visiting this subreddit and reading the experiences others shared about their time in the city. It was consistently insightful, helpful, and quite entertaining to read.
While this post may be none of those things, I still wanted to share on the off chance it provides a bit of relief for those planning and struggling to piece their own trips together.
As a brief background, both my wife and I have spent time in Vegas before, but, for reasons I won’t get into on this post, we never had a “Vegas experience.” We agreed that this would be that trip.
For context, we have been together for 15 years. We are both 35 and have two kids. Most vacations are family-oriented - lots of planning, budgeting, and sniping the best deals and the cheapest things to do. We agreed to do a little of that for this trip, but to mostly roll with the punches and see what would happen. Outside of booking the hotel, the only other thing I did to prepare for this trip was make two lists of food. Food list number one were places that sounded unique or different and were within a 5 to 10 minute walk. Food list number two was the same concept, except 20+ minute walk or bus ride away. My wife and I also agreed that if we couldn’t walk somewhere by staying in hotels, we weren’t going to walk there.
I’ll get the total cost out of the way. We spent about $370 on food, drinks, transportation, and entertainment. Our flight was $80 round trip ($40 each through Frontier). The hotel was $350 total for 3 nights. Thats about $800 for 3ish days and 3 nights in Vegas.
Monday: Both my wife and I had a bout of food poisoning a couple of days prior to leaving. We nearly canceled our trip, but on Sunday, made the decision to carry through, as the sitter arrangement was already made and figured that even if we just spent the time in our hotel room, it would still be fun. By Monday morning, I felt okay, but my wife was still a little ill.
The plane into Vegas landed at 11am. We decided to take an Uber from the airport to Total Wine and Whole Foods in Town Square. At Whole Foods, we bought emergency snacks (breakfast bars, nuts, chips, etc) and 3 gallons of water. At Total Wine, we bought our favorite rum, mostly in fear that we wouldn’t find it on the strip - one 750ml bottle of Kraken ($20) - and a 10 pack of mini Coke Zeroes.
From there, we took another Uber to the hotel - the Flamingo - mostly because we were carrying a lot of stuff (the bus was the original option). We arrived early, tried checking in early using a kiosk, but refused to pay the extra $20. Instead, we walked over to the food court, got comfy in a booth, and made a strong drink to sip on while we waited. I should mention that we stopped at the Starbucks in the hotel and paid $2 for two waters (ridiculous!). We used those cups to make our drinks.
By 3:30, we were two drinks in and decided to try checking in again. The lines were longer now, too, but the kiosk line moved quickly. This time we were given our keys to the room. Having never stayed on the Vegas strip before, we opted for the strip view (more on this later).
We rested, showered, changed, made another drink, bought a 24 hour bus pass, and headed out. We caught the bus in front of Harrah’s and went to Cookies for edibles. Their selection was meager compared to what we’re used to in New Mexico, but made the best of it. Ate an edible then hopped back on the bus, south this time, and took it aaaallll the waaaayyy down to the Mandalay Bay stop. We did not go to Mandalay Bay, though. Instead, we walked down a bit more and got some carne asada fries at a little place called Sayulitas. We consider ourselves carne asada fries experts because it is our go to when we drink and NM offers tons of delicious options. Sayulitas did an exceptional job - crispy fries, perfectly seasoned meat, tons of cheese and sour cream. Their salsa bar was stocked with some delicious and spicy salsas, as well.
From here, we caught the bus back North and decided to grab a dessert at Eataly - a place I had on one of my food lists, specifically for desserts. There, we spent $15 on an exceptionally delicious cream puff and chocolate square thing. Took them back to the room, ate them, and fell asleep.
Tuesday: The Vegas strip is loud. Even from the 11th floor of a hotel. The view was also kind of meh. I’m a light sleeper and that view wasn’t worth the terrible night of sleep. Before getting ready for the day, I went downstairs to inquire about a different room. The hotel staff was accommodating and friendly, but said that we would need to come back after 11am to see what was available.
With about 2 and a half hours to kill, we decided a breakfast adventure was the way to go. Eggslut is an often mentioned (and very popular) restaurant that can be found in the Cosmopolitan. Somehow, we missed the bus stop to go south (we walked south instead of north) and ended up walking to Eggslut by going through Bellagio. When we got there, the line was sufficiently long - about 20 minutes. Hungry and not wanting to walk, we decided to wait.
It was worth it for two reasons: 1. The food was delicious. The sauce, specifically, used on the sausage, egg, and cheese made my heart sing. 2. When we reached the front of the line, a dude who did not want to wait in line offered to buy our breakfast if we allowed him to add his order to ours. We agreed because who wouldn’t? Free breakfast? Absolutely.
With happy stomachs, we caught the bus and went back to the hotel. As mentioned earlier, the hotel staff was accommodating and switched our rooms without issue. Our new room had a view of the garden, the Sphere, and that big Ferris wheel thing - a MUCH nicer view. The room was also cleaner and so much quieter.
We rested, took another shower (NM is hot, but not like Vegas), got ready again, and decided it was time to start drinking. I should mention that we brought flasks with us, too. After taking a couple of shots each, we filled up our flasks and made a rum and coke to go (same Starbucks cups from the day before!).
Feeling rejuvenated from the new room and rest, a decent Kraken buzz in tow, we headed off without any specific plans. By the time we made it through The LINQ and to Harrah’s, we decided Fremont was the place to be. We downed our drinks, stored our cups in my drawstring backpack, and hopped on the bus. By the time we got off, we were feeling great and our time there became a little blurry, so here’s a quick rundown.
Went into a hotel to use the restroom, stumbled around until we found a Starbucks to get ice, took our 4th and 5th shots of the day in some alleys out of public view (drunk logic), saw a deal at Binion’s for a $6 burger and coke, watched some street performers, and by 4:30, we hopped back on the bus.
Craving a donut, we got off at Circus Circus to find the Krispy Kreme. After they rejected our free coupon, we headed up to the midway. The arcade games were expensive, so instead we talked with the game operators and waited for the 5:30 foot juggling show. The show, a whole 6 minutes in length, was AWESOME!
We stumbled around some more and at some point, we took another drink. Our 24 hour bus pass expired by 6:30, so we got on the bus again before then. Feeling tired, drunk, and hungry, we stayed on the bus all the way down the strip to enjoy the sights. By the time we made it to Town Square, we decided to get off, grab a bite, buy another bottle of Kraken, and go to the movies. We ate a $2 slice of Whole Foods pizza and watched Furiosa in IMAX.
It was after 10pm by the time the movie ended. We bought another 24 hour bus pass and went back to the hotel for a night of quiet and restful sleep.
Wednesday: We had a very slow morning. Which was nice because with kids, slow mornings don’t exist. We also spent much of our morning trying to decide whether we wanted to drink again or not. Inevitably, the Vegas logic set in, but it took some “pumping each other up” before it happened. Prior to that, however, we decided it was time to get a meal. As you could see, Monday and Tuesday involved a lot of snacking, so we wanted to sit down in a restaurant.
After much debate, Nacho Daddy was the winner. Our slow morning kept us in the hotel room until about 11am. We got ready, and refused to make the same mistake about the bus stop, so we walked north and crossed in front of The Linq to catch the bus down to the Cosmopolitan. Nacho Daddy was a short walk from there.
We did an order of the spicy grilled wings and fajita nachos. Both were yummy and exactly what we needed. As we were still in the “do we even want to drink again” phase, we stuck with water and our brunch, excluding tip, was $55.
Feeling full, we walked our food off in the Miracle Miles shops. It was quite empty and relaxing to walk through.
Walgreens was nearby, so on the way back to the hotel, we picked up more Coke Zero and another gallon of water. We grabbed the bus and went back to the hotel to rest.
It was around 4pm when we decided to start pumping each other up, and by 4:30pm, we had had another two shots each, a flask full of rum, and a couple mixed drinks in our Starbucks cups ready to go.
We left the hotel, heading north, and walking through The Linq again, Harrah’s and the Casino Royale. Feeling good, the moving walkways that lead into the Grand Canal Shoppes were calling our names.
While there, we did a ton of people watching. After some commentary on how a lot of the people look like replicas of Sims characters, we challenged each other to see who could complement more people the rest of the day. The only rule was that the compliment had to be genuine. Being together for 15 years, we know what the other person likes - cheating would take the fun out of the game.
As we left the Shoppes, we needed ice for another drink and Treasure Island was calling our names. On our way there, my wife complimented a person wearing a Seattle Krakens shirt - not because we’re fans…simply because we were drunk on Kraken (1-0).
Why are people so weird about filling up cups with ice in Vegas? Once in Treasure Island, I asked at Senior Frogs for ice. Rejected. Panda Express. Rejected. The lady that worked at Popeyes gave me ice, but I won’t lie…I had to turn on the charm. My wife socked me in the arm and we laughed as we took another shot and chewed those amazing ice cubes together.
As we left TI, I saw a dude wearing a Linkin Park Hybrid Theory shirt. The score was officially 1 to 1.
Sufficiently drunk at this point, we decided to catch the bus back to Fremont because we overheard people talking about the Neon Museum and our interest was piqued. On the walk to the bus, my wife complimented a guy with a lizard-shaped fanny pack (2-1).
Fremont was BUMPING by the time we got up there and the vibe was exactly what we wanted. We stumbled around, looked for ice, took pictures, and watched street performers. I spotted a gentleman with an incredible beard and tied up our score (2-2).
My wife chatted with a few ladies dressed as dominatrix, inquiring as to why they couldn’t leave their circle to take pictures with people and how difficult it was to get hours. She tipped them, we took some pictures, and, of course, she complimented them (3-2).
Afterwards, we saw an older man drinking McDonald’s coffee so my wife and I made a bet - was it coffee or something else? My wife said coffee. I said he was doing some secret drinking. A quick game of rock, paper, scissors, and my wife walked over to ask. It was coffee. I had to pay for the Neon Museum tickets. Fair enough.
We drank our last drink and headed off.
The Neon Museum is about a 10 minute walk from Fremont. If you go, I HIGHLY recommend a guided tour. Our tour guide, Steve, was INCREDIBLE and I made sure to tell him so…multiple times (3-3).
After the museum, we were fiercely hungry and decided that pizza, yes, again, was the best choice. My food list came in handy and Secret Pizza became our mission. A bus ride later, and we were back at the Cosmopolitan. It was fun, not having researched much about the pizza place but knowing it was meant to be hidden, to simply stumble around and find it.
By this time, my wife and I were incredibly drunk and making easy two-minute friends. We lost track of how many compliments we were throwing out. I tried engaging a dude wearing a Goku shirt about Dragon Ball Z, but he wanted to talk about his flight and the pizza he was waiting for, so I lost interest.
We got two slices of meat lovers and went on an adventure to find water.
We called it a night after this - it was close to 1am.
Thursday: Hungover and tired, we stayed in bed until it was time to check out. Grabbed a burger at Sickies Garage on the way to the airport and called it a trip.
We had plans to do more before leaving, but the best laid plans, amIright? Either way, it was a fun trip.
Was it a full “Vegas experience”? Maybe not to everyone that bothers to read this…We didn’t see any shows. We didn’t gamble a penny. We didn’t buy a single drink from a bar or a hotel and the latest we stayed up was 1am on Wednesday. Were we day drunk the entire time, though? Yep. Did we eat some good food? Yep. Did we talk to random people and see weird stuff? Yep.
What really defines a “Vegas experience,” after all? Tell me.
TLDR; We drank a lot and had a great time. Thanks, Vegas. :)

2024.06.07 21:48 yeyryr Got a free PC from a family friend with ram problems (?) that doesn't boot any hope saving it?

As title says. It apparently it has ram issues and doesn't boot I used the VGA connection since I don't have a display cable (laptop guy myself so that's why) using the port on the motherboard. When plugging it in a monitor it just puts the monitor in sleep mode and pressing the power button turns a green led on and that's about it, and if left for a longer time while "powered on" the fans start spinning like freaking crazy and starts to sound like a helicopter and the monitor remains in sleep mode. Anyone has any ideas what's going on? Family friend said it could be some issues on the motherboard but not sure tbh (I can provide more info if needed Abt the PC but it will be more complicated for me since it doesn't turn on) also the first time I booted it up it said "checksum error can't find bootable device" I can replicate it if I put the PC's SSD in a laptop. Tried to put windows 10 on the PC using an usb and holding any key on a keyboard but nothing happens my laptops are also too old to install windows 10, should I try to install some other os that can run on both instead and try again? After the first time no other errors ever showed up and never showed anything on the screen again too

2024.06.07 21:45 throwawaytempest25 Any legacy characters you’d want to “join” these villains? (My vote goes to Anko or the aids to other villages)

I know saying anything positive about Boruto is a social death here but I actually like the God Tree/Shinju clones.
You take a legacy character that has ties to the current generation (minus Bug and I think Jura’s source is the Ten Tails) put them in a state where they aren’t dead, but also make evil variants powered by their chakra being merged from the splintered Ten Tails, and force their loved ones to grow or fight to either free said person.
Himawari has Jura cuz she’s got Kurama.
Sarada and Boruto have Hidari because Sasuke sacrificed himself and let Boruto know he believed both him and her were the key to stopping them.
And Team 10 and Konohamaru have Moegi’s source in Matsuri.
But I don’t think they should be the only ones, and it would help with a criticism people have with Two Blue Vortex: Konoha focus.
Now I am not a hypocritical Naruto fan, so I am going to at least point out part one and part two especially were very leaf centric focused. Every main antagonist except for Pain and Kaguya came from the Leaf and even those two have ties to the village given their back stories, so it doesn’t bother me as much even though I do wish the other villages were used like how the anime so it doesn’t bother me as much even though I do wish the other villages were used like how the anime actually made arc for them and novels actually made arcs showing what it was like in showing what it was like in the new generation.
And we don’t know if this is gonna happen in the future or not, but if you increase the number of legacy characters that get turned into Shinju, not only do you raise the stakes, but it’s also opportunity to get more villages involved. For example
Leaf:
Anko would work pretty well. She’s a teacher to the new generation, she still able to participate in combat despite her weight, and given both the power boost and the design boost, we could get a evil stronger Anko that would be the closest thing to Anko using her Curse Mark.
Rock Lee. As much as I personally would not want to see this this would actually be a good opportunity to get better taijutsu fights or actually make Metal relevant. A big criticism when it comes to Naruto that we never got to see Lee actually surpass Guy on screen, and Metal hasn’t shown up in two blue vortex at all.
Speaking of new generation characters that we haven’t seen, Kurenai would also be a good opportunity to show off the dangers of genjutsu again. Bug shows that just because you’re old doesn’t mean you’re Shinju won’t make you stronger than you are currently. And Mirai hasn’t shown up. She was able to beat the guy who followed the footsteps of the guy who killed her father, what if she had to kill the person who incapitated her mother.
Temari would absolutely hurt to see, but that would be the closest thing we ever get to a Shikamaru and Shikadai vs Temari fight.
Koharu and Homura. How satisfying would it be to see a Uchiha be the ones to save the people who helped condemn their demise? Also, while it won’t be done, we’d get to see them punch people who look like them.
The Other Villages:
Baki or Kankuro would get the Sand, Gaara and Shinki into the plot.
Mei. Again the Shinju version would get their prime appearances, so a hot evil version of her running around, forcing the Leaf and Mist to work together to stop her could get them into the plot.
Omoi would be a good fit for the Cloud.
I guess Akatsuchi because Kurotsuchi needs a valid win for once.

2024.06.07 21:35 Many_Device6519 Curious Keyboard Issue -

I have a curious keyboard issue, I am farily tech savy but I cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is.
My keyboard 1 key will sometimess stop working and instead send a sequence of arrow keys when pressed intstead. (Like a macro). However I am using a almost completly fresh install of windows.
I can fix the issue by loading up the RGB lighting software for the keyboard and pressing the "Sync Lighting" button. - This will change my 1 key back to normal for a few hours before it happens again.
Is there a way to track where this alternate programming is coming from or why its happenning?
I've deleted my keyboard drivers, re-installed the driver software, changed and reset my keyboard language settings, changed USB ports all to no avail.
Hyper X Alloy Elite 2 Keyboard Windows 11 Pro Ngenuity RGB software.

First Build: Made My Keychron K4 Office-Friendly
Recently started working in an office and wanted to use my mechanical keyboard. Stock ABS caps with Gateron Browns were too loud.
Upgrades:
  • Switches: TCC Silent Bluish White
  • Keycaps: Cherry profile, double shot PBT (carbon)
  • Tape mod (masking)
  • Foam mod (EPDM rubber window seal tape)
  • Stock stabilizers lubricated with white lithium grease
I’m very happy with how it turned out. Tried lots of switches and narrowed it down to TCC and Kaihl Deep Sea Silent Whales.
The Whales sound better but the Bluish Whites FEEL amazing for me. They’re a bit quieter than I’d prefer, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’m thinking about replacing the stabilizers as the upstroke on these keys is really loud, though.
Happy to answer any questions!

Had this plant for a couple years. No idea what it is. Can you help me identify it? Can you also give me advice on how to take care of it?
https://preview.redd.it/wzjasqyuc75d1.jpg?width=3060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82dc0dac06bd022508efe6c067f2a3744780750e
TLDR: What is this plant? It grew from a random leaf picked up off the floor of a random garden center. I tried apps but I'm not 100% sure they're right. If you know, can you also give me tips for its care? Am I caring for it right? I'm a newbie for plants.
Background if you wanna read about it: (Sorry if it's long.)
My mother likes to take random leaves from the floors of random places that sell plants sometimes like Lowe's. They usually grew up to be pothos. I believe this one came from a garden center. I don't remember the name. It's certainly not a pothos and we had no idea what it is.
My mom passed in December, so it's just me taking care of the plants now. I'm pretty much a newbie. Recently I overwatered and killed her snake plant, which I felt really bad about. I decided to look online on how I can improve. Today I repotted my first plant and decided to repot this one too because it's kind of tall and maybe it needs more room? Then I remembered I should probs try to figure out what the heck it is.
My mom dubbed it \"the alien plant\" because she thought it was the strangest thing, like how it emerges out of like a skin-like covering thing like in this pic.
Have I tried using an app?
Yes, I did. I tried an app called PictureThis. I think it's great, but I don't 100% trust its identifications since it keeps saying my Draconscale Alocasia is Heart of Jesus. It keeps saying this is a fatboy philodendron or a philodendron imperial green. It keeps alternating between the two, so I don't know which one it is. I'm also not 100% sure it's right because the leaf shape doesn't seem to match in my opinion. I just want to make sure.
I think it's leaves are uniquely shaped? That might help with identifying it right?
It also seems like a second one grew at some point. For a long time I thought it was just a separate branch or something. Should I separate them and put them in their own pots?
If you know what it is, can you also give me care tips? It seems to be doing fine as is but I just want to make sure. It's pretty tall and it falls over without the plastic support poles I put. Am I supposed to be doing that?
I heard from a friend that Reddit is a great place to ask questions so that's why I'm here. I was actually surprised I had an account. I guess I made one years ago and never used it til now.
Sorry if this is long and messy. This is my first post ever

2024.06.07 21:10 RegulusPlus Flat DR tiers & The current state of damage reduction

Flat DR is becoming more commonplace (thanks to % DR negation doing the same), and I wanted to do an analysis on how much flat damage reduction is realistic for different types of units and why.
For anyone new to the concept of damage reduction, I'll explain how it differs from percentage-based damage reduction.

X% vs. X

Percentage-based damage reduction is a skill effect that reduces incoming damage after Atk, Def, and Res stats are factored in by a percentage.
Flat damage reduction (or damage negation) is a more recent skill effect that reduces incoming damage, after the usual damage calculation, by a flat number.
In the above example, how these two effects work is clear. Percentage-based DR can create a much greater reduction in damage (at the cost of its ability to be reduced). Flat DR usually creates a small reduction in damage, but it's more reliable and a critical effect for omni-tanks to take as little damage as possible.
These two effects are best when paired together. Basically, percentage-based DR makes big numbers into smaller numbers, and then flat DR turns those smaller numbers into tank-able numbers.
The best way to gain access to this combo on a tank is to get a %-DR Special:
as well as a source of flat DR, which are mostly on exclusive skills (and Laguz Friend, and Excel on PP & Specials).

How much Flat DR can we expect per unit (for now)?

Flat DR so far has been balanced according to a few factors such as:
  1. Conditionality
  2. Activation on specific strikes (e.g. only first/follow-up)
  3. Other trade-offs
  4. Placement in kit
Highly conditional flat DR can reach very high numbers, but as a result is able to be reduced to 0 by counterplay, unlike effects that use a number based on the user's stat.
When flat DR applies on only a specific strike, it tends to be higher. Similarly, other trade-offs can bring up the value of flat DR.
Finally, sacrificing a passive skill slot (B skill) seems to increase the value of flat DR because it cannot stack with Laguz Friend and also sacrifices other effects that can greatly enhance a tank's gameplay (Null C-Disrupt most notably).
Here are the classes or tiers of flat DR so far, their average X value, as well as the units in them *limited to one skill, this is not including units who can stack their weapon with Laguz Friend for example):
  1. All or Nothing (Super-High Ceiling)
    1. The source of damage negation can be absolutely countered, but has a high ceiling as a result.
    2. These units with such high flat DR either sacrifice their B skill or have drastically low Spd causing them to almost guarantee having to take two or more strikes if they cannot kill immediately on their counterattack.
    3. Examples:
      1. Eikthrynir: X is calculated as 50% of the highest total bonuses on nearby allies. From just his weapon's bonuses, this should be 9. With Spd/Res+6 on those same allies, it goes up to 18. Under extreme circumstances (double buffs due to Harsh Command or Attuned Micaiah), this can come up to 32 or more from this skill alone. However, him and his allies can be panicked and all DR will be lost.
      2. Attuned Caeda: X is the highest total bonuses on nearby allies (double the deer man, but also takes up her B skill slot). With her base kit and her bonuses not negated, this is 24 flat DR. It can go up to double that (48 or more) with flipped penalties and no panic.
      3. Nidhoggr: X is the damage dealt to foe (max 20). Yes she deals 8 combat-beginning damage so that base value should be 8, but Breath of Life can counter this.
  2. Higher Value, Higher Cost (25% or 30% of a Stat)
    1. There's a slight increase in the value of damage negation at a cost. This difference of 5% or 10% of a stat when dealing with modern stats can
    2. For all of the below tiers, the estimated value of X is calculated using only their weapon, their stats with flowers and a boon in the respective stat, and an average of +10 to that stat to account for passive skills.
    3. Examples:
      1. New Year Nerthuz: X = 25% of Spd, but only on the foe's first attacks. This value is about 19.
      2. Diamant: X = 25% of Def, but negates all non-Special % DR on himself and hinders his own ability to follow-up. This value is about 15. This is due to only getting Def+5 from his weapon and not having highest base stat either.
      3. Rhea: X = 30% of Res, but only on follow-up attacks. This value is about 19.
      4. Edward: X = 16, but only when getting hit with an offensive Special.
  3. The Blueprint (20% of a Stat)
    1. This was the introduction of this effect. 20% of a stat, after in-combat effects. When using the Atk stat, the percentage is reduced due to weapon might, so it becomes 15%.
    2. Note the outlier in Bridal Embla (an amazing unit). Not only does she get higher stats, but she's the only significantly faster unit in this class. All other units calculate flat DR based off of a defensive stat and as such have lower Spd mostly and risk follow-ups.
    3. Examples:
      1. Spring Maria: The original, getting 20% of her Def as damage negation. The value is about 13.
      2. Askr: X = 20% of Def; it's about 13.
      3. New Year Askr: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      4. Bridal Embla: X = 20% of Spd; valued at about 15, thanks to her modern weapon granting about 10 more stats than other units in this class.
      5. Brave Dimitri: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      6. Dimitri: X = 15% of Atk; about 12.
      7. Gatekeeper: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      8. Midori: X = 15% of Atk; about 13.
      9. Ninja Cherche: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      10. Laguz Friend Users: X = 20% of Def/Res, should be in line with the above, those with modern weapons and refines (+13-15 to stats) hitting Embla's 15, otherwise hitting around 12.
  4. The New Normal (Fixed Value or 15% of a Stat)
    1. Basically, you need flat DR to survive now, so this is added to a unit's kit who also has other means of survival such as overall high stat swings, higher Spd, infantry skill access, % DR in the same skill, is a grail unit (lol), etc.
    2. Examples:
      1. Rinkah: X = 15% of Def, but only on first attacks; valued at around 9.
      2. Cormag: X = 15% of Def, valued at around 7.
      3. Edward: X = 8, unless when getting hit with an offensive Special.
      4. Halloween Corrin: X = 8, on defensive Special trigger.
      5. Brave Corrin: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      6. Legendary Corrin: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      7. Say'ri: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      8. Fallen Ike: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      9. Mozu: X = 10
      10. Divine Veine (Stone): X = 10, when hit with an offensive Special.
  5. We Used to be a country A proper country
    1. The lowest amount of flat DR which belongs to skills that are either outdated or have a lot else going for them, but each big of flat DR can contribute to survival. Upgrades to these inheritable skills could become very relevant.
    2. Examples:
      1. Shield Pulse: X = 5, on defensive Special trigger.
      2. Hardy Fighter: X = 5, on defensive Special trigger.
      3. Summer Fjorm: X = 5, on defensive Special trigger.

Final Notes

Of course there are some units I probably missed and in-combat all of these numbers will look different according to each situation. But this is to paint a general picture of how flat DR is currently balanced in the game. The key notes are that:

2024.06.07 20:56 MysteriousVehicle 8x8 Matrix Keyboard - CNC Mill Keyboard Emulating

I have an old CNC machine with a 60 key mechanical keyboard. It appears to be an 8x8 matrix with 5V highs. I'd like to be able to inject and read keystrokes using a microcontroller. Could be fed by an RPi or could be using an ESP32 with a little server. 1s latency is NBD. I figure I'd be reinventing the wheel trying to write code that scans an 8x8 matrix.
I am happy to buy something that already does this easily, but also have Arduino Megas, ESP32s, Adafruit Metros, Grand Central, and RPi 0/5/4s laying around.
Has anyone released something that I can basically buy/copy before I go about trying to DIY? Ive done a little circuitpython and a lot of regular python but I'm willing to learn more if needed.

Note: for some games from humble I might ask for gift links. There is a rumor 3 years ago that humble bans users due to making gift links only. I make gift links every week, never have any issues. I have no idea why humble would ever ban its customers for using a feature it provides to its custimers.

Here is a guide how to make gift links from support.Humblebundle.com: https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/202712460-Purchasing-and-Sending-Gifts

I do not believe humble teaches you how to make gift links, so it can ban you, lol

Wooting Two HE: ANSI-US Layout with ISO-German keycaps and mapping ?
Hello all, I am looking to buy a Wooting Two HE, but unfortunately the ISO-German version of the keyboard has an 8 week or longer wait for the next batch. My last keyboard from Roccat broke, I'm on a really bad membrane keyboard right now and I don't really want to wait two months for a new keyboard.
I am thinking about buying the ANSI-layout keyboard and the ISO-German keycaps, swapping in the special characters' keycaps in where needed and changing the keyboard layout to ISO in software.
With the different layout, that will of course result in some compromises:
On the right hand side, everything should work out OK, as the number of keys available stays the same, with them just being positioned slightly differently. Only key that one couldn't swap would be the key directly above ENTER in ANSI due to it's size not matching the #-key I’d like to swap in. As a result it will end up with wrong labels on it, but i don't really care about that.
On the left side of the keyboard, it becomes a bit more tricky as there actually is one fewer key to work with.
Luckily, i don't find myself using "<" , ">" and "" which are set to this key in ISO-German all to often, with them being basically unused in most video-games I think of using this keyboard for. Only problem here is that i write a bit of HTML every now and then, so i still need ok access to them.
My current plan for it is just remapping it in software to some key-combination that is easy-ish to use. Something like right Alt + some keys from the bottom row is what i have in mind for now.
Any ideas, warnings, tips or recommendations on how to make something like this work well ?
PS: Swapping to ANSI entirely isn't really an option for me. I use my PC a lot for typing texts in German where I need Ä,Ü,Ö,ß and the likes constantly. Additionally, my laptop has ISO-German as well and I'd believe constantly switching between two different systems isn't a great idea.
Thanks for any input !

2024.06.07 20:32 LxRem03 How to open cable junction box?

How to open cable junction box?
I am not certain if this question is appropriate in this subreddit, but it seems related. I apologize in advance. I am trying to setup a MoCA configuration in my house, but it seems that the point of entry is using a splitter that is not MoCA compatible since the signal is intermittent on the MoCA adapter.
The plan is to replace the splitter with MoCA compatible one, and install a PoE filter.
I have traced my coax cable from my room to the attic and in my garage (where I'm assuming all other coax cable meets) in the locked junction box. The problem is that the point of entry is locked in a junction box (picture below), and I need to pay 50CAD to have a technician to open it.
Is there a tool that I can buy to open it? I'd rather buy the tool than spend 50CAD every time I need this box to be opened.

2024.06.07 20:30 Wonderful-Arugula266 Tips on how to do this?

Hello.
I am new to dyeing but have a big project. I have 4.5m/5 yards of cotton fabric (100% cotton very likely). It weighs about 2kg/4.4lbs in total. Half of it needs to be dyed a dark brown, the other half I want to remove the color (rit dye remover?) to make it a cream/ivory color.
It was prewashed in the machine which resulted in severe crocking (used small amount of regular detergent). It also bleeds a lot.
How do I dye this much fabric into a dark color and is color removing easy or should I just dye it black? I don't want to add any more work than there already is. I also don't have a big enough pot for the stovetop method. I am planning on using a fixiative after dyeing.
First picture is the fabric now, second are the dark brown and the rest is the cream/ivory I am planning.

2024.06.07 20:29 icebear_bare Looking for suggestions to replace a Logitech G710+ keyboard

The double-u key on my G710+ keyboard just died and I am really bumming. Easily the best keyboard I've ever ovvned and unfortunately they don't sell them anymore. I'd sincerely appreciate any recommendations for a similar keyboard. I'm a full-time developer and this keyboard just vvorked for me, so as close to possible as this design is preferable (doesn't need to be logitech). I never used the programmable G keys but the media controls are used constantly (though not necessarily a requirement). Cherry MX svvitches vvith similar dampers vvould be a HUGE plus.
Sad to see this thing reach the end of its life but it held out for nearly a decade vvith constant use, so hat's off to the designers. Thank you in advance!

2024.06.07 20:08 zxkn2 SpaceMouse + Split Ergo Integration: Allium58CAD

SpaceMouse + Split Ergo Integration: Allium58CAD
Allum58CAD is a wireless split keyboard designed to integrate with a SpaceMouse for Engineering, CAD, and 3D design. This eliminates the need for a macro-pad, utilizing a custom layer to put commonly used keys and a number pad in easy reach of the SpaceMouse Navigator to minimize hand movement and keep your mouse hand on your mouse.
I spent far too much time looking all over the internet for a good solution to give me a left hand number pad, and a few macro keys to use with my SpaceMouse navigator.
Decided I didn’t like any of the solutions I saw and decided to create my own.
Keyboard halves snap to the SpaceMouse base with magnets. This allows it to be used as a unibody split, or as a true split keyboard.
GitHub readme still needs finalizing, but imparts the important info if you want to know more:
