Hello everyone,
as most of the people on this subreddit, I want to quit smoking. I am writing this post because I want to be properly prepared.
I am 24 years old and I only started smoking regularly around one and a half years ago, although I have been a party smoker for around 5 years. I smoke around 5 cigarettes on regular days. When I drink, which usually happens on the weekends, it can easily go up to 20.
While I really enjoy smoking (obviously), I started to feel kind of stupid recently for doing it. Initially mostly because of social disapprovement (I moved to a new city and for some reason nobody here smokes). As a result I started to think a lot about the negative side of smoking and decided that quitting is the way. When I began smoking, I was sure that I don't want to die to lung cancer, so I knew I wanted to quit someday before it's too late. I decided that before my addiction grows too strong, this day is now.
Hard smokers who managed to stop often depict it as one of the hardest things that they achieved in their lives. The stories I read online make it sound horribly hard.
Now I have a couple of questions for the community:

• Will it be as hard to quit for relatively new and soft smokers like me?
• Can anybody who had a comparable level of addiction share how they managed to stop?
• What are your tips for my journey?

I live in a 30 year old condo building in Toronto and I was smoking in my balcony (not a regular smoker) and I saw a lady outside of the complex boundaries just loitering there doing nothing. When I lit my cigarette, I saw her phone tilt towards me as if she was recording and when I asked her if she was recording me, she just walked away.
What do I make of this ? Can my condo building management come knocking at my door with this? I know I sound paranoid but I want to just prepare myself for what may come!
(Lease agreement and condo has no smoking rules like no smoking anywhere at all kind of rules)

I was really sick of how much my boyfriend had been smoking recently so I immaturely gave him an ultimatum and he chose me. While going through withdrawals he would say the most hurtful things that I never expected him to use against me. It got so bad that I wanted him to start smoking again just so this would end but he still stayed clean. We would patch it up but then again something would trigger it and he would react in a mean way and then admit that he's still not over the fact I coerced him into doing something by using myself as a bargaining chip.
Yesterday he wanted to show who he truly was to me so he opened his archived notes and there was a lot of stuff about his ex (they weren't dating but she kind of strung him along) and then something got triggered in him. He said it's me I'm the problem and this will happen again I'm very selfish and I only care about myself this relationship will definitely end and you'll regret being in this relationship(he meant I would regret having him as my partner not the breakup) but I won't, I was much more helpful in the beginning of our relationship and it has clearly gotten so much worse with time. He also said that he is a bad person and he will take revenge if he can. I asked him if he would do that to me he didn't exactly say no and I freaked tf out.
Then my laptop died and I was sort of in a state of shock. He started messaging me non stop telling me how anxious it makes me him feel when I disappear suddenly and to pick up the call. He said this is just his insecurities resurfacing over him not getting an intern. Then he said in two days we will have our 10 month anniversary and he'll make it all worth it. I didn't block him like I usually did after an argument because I'm actually scared of him. He begged me for a 5 minute call where he said I don't need to fear him ever doing something to damage my reputation and to just remember that he's not that kind of a person. I've been giving him neutral responses and I've asked him for space and we're only texting right now. When he asks to call I decline.
Now this is our relationship represented in the worst possible way but this is what has been happening over the last two weeks with him quitting cigarettes and all. I don't want to be in this headspace anymore. I have lost all energy to get out of bed. My mental state is completely fucked up. How do I handle this?

Let’s get what I’m looking for out of the way, as no sense in taking up more of your time if it’s obvious that we aren’t a fit.
What I’m seeking:
As of current, my primary interests align most with a FWB situation, but I am open to any form of connection that develops organically between us (including simple friendship). I’m relatively open with regard to availability, though in an ideal world you would be open to seeing each other 1-2+ times a week. I’m attracted to a wide range of personalities and body types, so it can be hard to relay my interests there and is usually best just to connect and see if we click or not. I guess in the end, I’m pretty flexible in my interest and desires.
It’s also important to note that I do not smoke or drink at all. I don’t judge if you do either, but I will say that being around cigarette smoke is likely to be a dealbreaker for me. As for weed, I hate the smell, so I just ask that you please avoid smoking it around me. Vapes are fine, just please don’t blow them in my direction as I personally don’t care to breath that in. Alcohol I have no problem being around in all capacities lol get plastered for all I care.
A bit about myself:
It’s always hard to gauge what to share to the world in “bios” like this..I’ll try to highlight some of my most prominent characteristics and details 🤷‍♂️.
Let’s start physical. I’m 6’7”, definitely a dad bod with a bit of a stomach, 33 years young, long brown curly-ish/wavy hair (admittedly facing some male pattern baldness at my forehead hairline, so doing what I can with what I’ve got while I can 🤷‍♂️), brown eyes, wear glasses (if that matters to you at all), maintain a beard at all times (take the hair where I can, right? 🤪🤷‍♂️), and wear a size 19 shoe (putting that out there as it’s always a shocker 😆). No, I never played basketball for any teams growing up, but did play pickup games often after high school. The weather is just fine “up here” 🤪. As for style, or lack thereof 😆, you’ll likely always see me in some form of graphic or plain T-shirt with likely some form of shorts (I love the cold and hate being hot) year round, though every now and then I’ll change it up with pants and/or pollos 🤷‍♂️. I want to be more stylish tbh, but I don’t have the eye for good style, I’m colorblind, and often don’t feel other styles would suit my looks 🤷‍♂️. Speaking of looks, standard bearded Caucasian nerd looking dude lol, though when people see me, they might be quick to assume I’m the standard white conservative Christian type, when in reality I’m far from such (curse the genetics and looks I was born into 😭).

Gah this section is much tougher to fill out 😅. Look, I just love just about everybody, will generally give everybody the time of day and benefit of doubt, can strike up a convo with just about anyone (though sometimes I need the other person to engage the start of that convo 😅), and would do my best to help and protect anyone around. I’d say i lean more extroverted, but do battle a moderate amount of social anxiety that im sure you’ve picked up on by now..you’d likely think im more introverted with how often I stay home and how little I randomly reach out to friends/others. It’s not that I don’t love getting out and about and don’t care to talk to my friends, I just get so caught up in my day to day life that it just doesn’t cross my mind, OR I get social anxiety (especially if I haven’t spoken to someone in a long time, I always worry they think I don’t care about them and our friendship).
Beyond this, it’s hard to list my other qualities, so I’ll just move on to interests and maybe that’ll help highlight more?

So… I quit smoking via vaping 5 months ago. I tapered 25 mg.. by half… to an extremely small amount of nic (below 0.3mg)… then 0 mg. Did this over 2 months or so
I was SHOCKED how hard it was to go from .3mg to zero nic. So difficult that I felt like tapering was a waste of time.
Anyway…. Don’t try this at home kids…. BUT…
I had a slight urge and some 6 mg juice… Really just out of curiosity…. I decided to try it.. Again, I don’t suggest this…. But
I FELT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
So I hit it again… and again…. and again… Nothing. Not even a slight head rush. Chained it… nothing… Gotta admit I was hoping for the rush and was almost disappointed at the time. That was 2 days ago and not one craving since.
Double checked and definitely 6 mg.…. I smoked more than a pack a day for 10+ years up until 5 months ago. I was crazy addicted.
Seems I’ve beat this and that’s awesome… No plans to do that again but it makes no sense to me. Def not my norm. Ive quit before and failed,
Does nic juice dilute or expire after 5 months????? Not going to but do you think its because I’m d need more than 6mg or an actual cigarette at this point?!?!?

I work in a quality control laboratory for a chemical company. One of the quality assurance ladies that walks through my lab to bring test samples COUGHS all over the place. she doesnt cover her mouth, and this has been happening since i’ve been employed (almost a year). she has even coughed on me while handing me a sample. I have seen her smoking cigarettes outside the entrance to the facility. I was very sick recently and i blame it on her. I have an auto-immune disease (multiple sclerosis) and I recently informed my company’s HR that something needs to change. My question to you guys is if this keeps happening (with HR knowing the problem in written detail), do I have any protection legally if I get very sick again from this disgusting situation ??

This is hand-built stuff that I made, mostly relatively unique or heavily tweaked designs built on vero or point to point. Many are housed in upcycled tins, a few in Hammond boxes. They all run on standard 9v pedal power. These aren't clones for the most part, unless they are; but normally I actually monkey about with the circuits quite a bit or just test out wacky ideas. If you want something nobody else has, you're in the right place…
I have the handmades valued in 4 tiers:

• D tier are my trashy cheapies, made from reclaimed components. I don't feel right asking a lot for reclaimed components. I value them in the $40 - $50 range, not really picky about what I trade for. I might even take dirt pedals for these. Only got one left, trying to phase out this tier.
• C tier are the cheapies made with new components. I value these in the $50 - $60 range, not very picky here either.
• B tier are my average builds, I will trade for pedals in the $65-$90 value range, depending on the complexity of the build. A little pickier, but still pretty open.
• A tier are my happy happy builds, usually more complex or just nicer quality. I will be picky about trades for these. (But still not Boutique prices; I have no delusions). It's probably less about value here and more about how much I actually want the thing you have. Think in the $90 - $130 range.

SwirlFuzz	B+	PIC DEMO	Modulated octave fuzz prototype. It's an octave fuzz, but you can switch on an LFO to modulate the octave amount. Controls for Rate, Depth, Gain, and Volume, plus switches for waveshape and mode (Normal/Octave/Modulated). In a circular tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Baller Fuzz	B	PIC DEMO	Another Bazz-Me-Fuss-You build with an added BMP-style tone control. In a slightly beaten-up heart-shaped basketball tin. Y'all ready for this?
Big Green Fuzz for Attractive Bass Players	B	PIC Demo	Like my bazz-me-fuss-you circuit, but with a big muff tone stack, a clean blend, and optional clippers for more compression. Housed in a big round tin reinforced with recycled plastic and designed specifically for attractive bass players. Unattractive ones may not really gel with this.
Creature from the planet Chyowngg	B	PIC Demo	Prototype of a unique fuzz I've been developing that I call the Chyowngg fuzz. It's a 2-stage octaver that gives a bright synthy tone with a distinctive envelope (hence the name). You can toggle each stage from octave to non-octave mode for a variety of interesting timbres. Also has a tone control, but the tone control is before the octave stages so it results in interesting behaviors depending on the switch settings. It's in a tin meant to be painted like an alien, though some say it looks more like a triceratops.
Dumbo's Bazzrite Fussrite	C	PIC Demo	A bazz-fussified mosrite fuzzrite circuit I cobbled together in point-to-point wiring style. Housed in a little Dumbo puzzle tin with GLITTER! Controls are for balance (kind of tone-cum-gain) and volume.
Wiff Spwinkles on Top	C	PIC Demo	This point-to-point fuzz lives in the same neighborhood as the Harmonic Percolator, but has a few differences. I altered the way the gain knob works, and added a switch to toggle bass cut. It's housed in an ice-creamity welly tin.

B is for Beast	C	PIC DEMO	This fun little drive/boost consists of two cascading MOSFET gain stages with optional clipping in between. It goes from clean and loud to massive wall-of-gain distortion nicely. Controls for gain, clipping, and volume. In a small heart-shaped tin about 4in by 4in.
Green Sparkler Boost	D	PIC	Just an Escobedo Duende JFET boost built point-to-point in a sparkly little round tin. Gives a little gain and a bit of warmth to the tone.

A Note about mods/repairs/custom jobs: Feel free to shoot me your ideas, but probably I'm leaning toward not doing these. Expect to pay/trade way more for something custom than what I ask for the pedals I've already built.

My stepkid is 5. Me and my partner had the day with him on Saturday, right before Mother’s Day. My stepson is basically being raised by his maternal grandmother, the mother is in and out of the picture as she wishes, right now she’s living in her grandmas house after the last guy she tried living with threw her out and her mom doesn’t want her back, but the house is close enough that sometimes my stepson spends time with her. This week when we arrive he gets in the car eating strawberry cookies (it was lunch time, and I had prepared actual food as I always do when he will come over) so I knew lunch was already spoiled, and then he announces that his mom bought it for him when she took him to buy cigarettes, and that he loved strawberry as much as she loved smoking. Through the day he repeated that fact for others, and at one point when he was telling that to his cousin I couldn’t watch it anymore, I told him that smoking was really bad, that it’s not a nice thing to do and that it damages your health. And me and his cousin made him agree that cigarettes smell bad. My SO wasn’t close to me when this happened but I told him what I had done and he agreed with me. Cut to today and my stepsons grandma is messaging my SO and she’s very angry at me for breaking the news about smoking for him because now he’s getting upset whenever he sees his mom and grandpa smoking, and that he’s too little to know those things. Also just to note that I didn’t go overboard talking about cancer or death, no pictures of smoking damage whatsoever, I literally just said it wasn’t good for you and that it will make you sick, I think my explanation was age appropriate. So, AITA?

Went to the apartment (which I still pay for) yesterday to get the rest of my stuff. She had massage oil and new lingerie in her room (I still had to get my clothes so she knew I would see). I felt nauseous. I looked around and saw cigarettes (she does not smoke) and coca cola (which she does not drink). Her purse was half open on the table, I looked and saw pictures with the girl she told me not to worry about, kissing.
I went crazy, the last months of the relationship she was constantly on her phone and always planning things to do with this girl. She just... replaced me. 11 year relationship, 2month breakup. Over the phone she told me “If I really wanted to cheat I would have done it years ago because back then I was already in love with her”. That sentence broke me forever. 💔
I feel ugly, small, fat, stupid. She replaced me just like that. I was nothing to her. 11 fucking years. I am crying myself to sleep everyday, hoping she thinks of me too. But no, she already moved on like I was nothing. She could not care less about me. I seriously will never trust anyone ever again, don't know how to handle this. I don’t wanna quit smoking because I enjoy it but I have to quit smoking because it’s hindering my life any tips on how to quit smoking my. Ok, a few years back I created a self induced DNE for area eateries and restaurants. These were places that had bad service, crap food, cleanliness was bad and made me sick 😫
I'll start with nasty ass Bob Evans. (Southside) Source my gut for you Karen's and Ken's who want one.
So, I used to stop in to grab a turkey dinner when I didn't feel like cooking. I get there get seated and place my order. The place kinda smelled like old mop water. Ugh... started to leave then. But, I got hardheaded... ordered my meal. Turkey dinner, with mashed potatoes and gravy. With simple green beans. A strawberry lemonade that was new. And banana bread. Along with the cranberries.
The server who looked like she was tweaking Scribed that order down and left to get my drink. She came back, with was the equivalent of Mrs. Butterworths in a glass. It was so sweet I damned near gagged. She disappeared for what was 15 mins. I told her the "drink" was too sweet. She understood, asked if I'd like a remake? Hell no! I'll take a sprite and a water. No issues with those.
The food came 25 mins in. All of it was luke warm. I guess Chef Mike wasn't plugged in? And I got mushy carrotts....that I didn't ask for. Molly meth, laid the food on the table.so fast and disappeared again. This time I had to get up to locate someone to fuss pretty much.
Spoke to the manager, who was outback smoking with Molly meth....wt actual f? She had the guys cook a new plate of everything. And voided my meal. I ate the food, about 30 mins later it was like I swallowed a grenade. My rear felt like I was shooting out flames.
Never again. I haven't been there in 2 years. Don't let me start in on Popeyes, churches chicken and Olive Garden.

Just want to preface this by saying I'm in support of this change but is it just me that thinks it's crazy that the age to buy cigarettes has been raised to 21 but the ages you can buy vapes at will remain at 18 ? While this doesn't come into effect straight away and won't effect people currently 18, it's going to be introduced soon. Most young people seem to be smoking vapes, not cigarettes or rollies. We banned menthol and other flavoured cigarettes as it made it appealing for young people to smoke but we are making no effort to ban flavoured vapes(which make it far easier for kids to smoke) or even to extend the ban to vapes. Why do vapes seem to be getting preferential treatment when a senior member in Ireland's healthcare system came out and said it's almost certain vapes have serious and long term effects on health.

I wasn't paid last month. There was no forewarning. So it has been 3 weeks without medication. I was diagnosed with Clinical depression and General Anxiety Disorder in 2018.
On the plus side my skin is a lot clearer and I got my sexual function back but...
My body keeps taking screenshots ( I don't know how else to explain it). I'll be trying to relax or sleep but then my muscles or my synapses will just clench(?) and release.
Then there are the extreme moods and emotions. And I am sensitive AF. Like I just have to avoid conversations because I don't know what someone will say to hurt my feelings. Oh and tiktok videos. I'll just get unnaturally angry at AITA reddits and couple tiktoks (if I sense emotional abuse or something).
I'm also at a constant state of unease. And I'm ready to throw up all the time. Uncomfortable situation? I should go throw up. I want to get out of doing something? I should go throw up. I feel bullied (based off nothing - after I replay the situation). I should throw up.
Over sleeping. Lack of appetite. Craving a cigarette (I don't smoke). Being impulsive. I've wanted to cut my hair and go on a night run. Being self-critical. Over romanticizing bull shit.
Just had to share that. Feel better just typing that.
Major depressive thought of the moment: I think my depression would probably be cured if I was given a bunch of money that had no strings attached and required zero effort from me.

Today I’m 100 days sober. I know it’s a great accomplishment and that I should be of myself. But to be honest I’m feeling sad and empty. So much going on in life, so much conflicts I need to resolve. Have people I need to talk to to set things straight. So many confusions, loads off emptiness. I want to fix everything, become happy and make other people happy but here I am smoking a cigarette in the rain on my 100th sober day. 🎉

This is my very first post and English is not my native language. Please forgive me for any errors.
I admit I don't really know what to expect from this post, creating mainly to let off steam.
It might be quite long haha. So me (24M) and my ex (24F) were together since we were 17.
So we have met in high school. We quickly decided to stay together despite studying in different cities. To be honest we never had a real argument during our 6 and a half years of relationship. Small arguments about boundaries that should not be crossed and which were resolved in a healthy way.
To give some context. My ex has an alcoholic mother and a father who more or less abandoned her at a young age but eventually came back. She also comes from a much more difficult economic background than me.
I am lucky to have a very united and supportive family. We also have no money problems and are there to help us in difficult times.
After a few months of dating, I very quickly integrated my ex into my family. We hosted all the parties at our house, my parents took her on trips with us, and I always did my best to help her in her life (picking her up from work, bringing her meals when she finished work, I took the train every weekend to see her in her city).
She always said that I was an excellent, even perfect boyfriend. I have always proven my loyalty and my love for her. She still seemed extremely happy with it and was a bit boastful about it haha. We ended up moving in together in 2022.
This is where we had our first real problems. Since she had no financial support from her parents, she had to work at the same time as her studies. She was naturally very tired physically and mentally. Personally, at that time I really didn't like my studies and I was very stressed because 1 year later I had to find my first job.
Our first arguments therefore revolved around personal investment in cleaning and maintaining the house. I was never really satisfied with her investment. We had a few arguments but we got there in the end. I naturally relaxed with my reduction in stress and I realized that I had a tendency to want to control my environment during my stressful periods. So I made an effort and things got better.
From summer 2023, we changed apartments and I had my first internship and then my first job. With a significant salary, I told her to stop working and focus on her studies (she repeated her year once because her work took up too much of her time).
So, I took care of everything and I gave her €400 per month so that she could continue to live a normal life. In September 2023, she started to go to her business school and I start to see some personality change.
For more context, I am a very introverted person. I have never smoked, never tried drugs, never gone to nightclubs and I drink very little. I spend my free time playing PC, role-playing games or playing sports. My ex was also very introverted, she loves reading at home while drinking coffee. She went out once every full moon to have a drink with her best friend.
But, once she arrived at her new school, she started going out more often, going to nightclubs (in 6 years she must have gone 3 times). She also started smoking an electronic cigarette.
The fateful moment was at the end of January 2024. As part of her studies, she had to go to Barcelona for 3 months. I was very happy for her knowing that we had already established a long-distance relationship (however, it was me who left and she stayed in our hometown).
The beginning went very well but she ended up joining a shared accommodation in February. From there, she started going out 3 or 4 times a week. She went out to a nightclub with roommates except the girls whom decided to go home and she decided to go only with the boys (I never met them and she only knew them for two weeks). I admit that I may be a little old-fashioned and I consider that the nightclub is necessarily a place of seduction (not that my ex wanted to seduce but she was inevitably going to be hit on). I didn't say anything about it but she quickly understood that I didn't like it. I told her that I wouldn't forbid her anything but I found that knowing me she could suspect that I wouldn't like it.
So we had a change that I found radical in her personality. She went out a lot more. Not to exonerate myself, but it was also a difficult time for me. Again for context, I usally give off the impression of someone who always knows what I do, what I want and who I am. However, during this period I was externally uncomfortable in my skin. I had problems in my job and I was overall very stressed and I had very little self-confidence (which had almost never happened in 6 years).
Coming back to my ex, I noticed this personality change and became increasingly dissatisfied with our call times, the amount of messages and generally the amount of attention she gave me. So we had a lot of disagreements over that. She told me that I was suffocating her, that I was too controlling (again I never told her that I didn't want her to go out or stop having a relation with one of her roommates (my instinct really told me that something was going on with one of her roommates but I didn't know who was the main actor in this potential flirtation).
She started lying to me about insignificant things (she ended up telling me that she was lying to me so I wouldn't get angry???) but I became more and more controlling. Big argument after an evening where she told me she was going home to sleep but I saw her in the club with the localisation of her phone. She offered me a break, I got really angry for the first time in our relationship. For me a break means a breakup (it may be stupid but with everything that was happening that's what seemed to happen to me).
After my outburst (no insults and barely raised my voice (I don't know how to get angry lol)), she came to join me to try to repair things (I was very happy). However, we argued for 8 days, sometimes things went well but it remained tense. Also I saw her staying on her phone every night when I went to bed. I found it too weird. I finally broke down and looked at her messages (first time in 6 years), I found exchanges between them. Nothing blatant but I personally find them flirting. At least she spoke to him the same way she spoke to me at the beginning of our relationship.
She ended up returning to Barcelona and we made small promises to improve the relationship. But once she got back to Barcelona she didn't answer me all day. I blamed her a bit for that and set a little trap for her (it's not good, I know). I told her that I didn't like this guy (I didn't tell her to cut contact (I've had already cut contact with girls that my ex didn't like)). And I told her not to talk to him about this discussion (she talked to him about it that same evening). I asked her if she had told him and she told me that she hadn't told him anything. So I told her “we’ll probably have to separate” and then she left and didn’t want to hear anything more. I told her right away that I loved her and that I didn't want to break up but that I didn't know what to do anymore given her behavior.
So we parted ways. I went back and forth between « I love you more than anything » and « I have to cut you out of my life to move forward ». She told me to leave her alone while she figured out what was happening while saying that in any case it was over. I couldn't leave her alone to think. I learned through a TikTok that she had kissed this famous roommate…. I also had to manage all the administrative formalities alone...
I did everything to heal in the healthiest way possible (sport, therapy, seeing my friends and family). I didn't fall into a band-aid relationship, I didn't fall into alcohol, parties or other palliatives.
It will now be a little over 2 months since we have been separated. I accepted it, I still love her even if her behavior disgusts me. And I find it hard not to blame her for not knowing how to help me during this period (even though she obviously tried even if it was never enough for me).
I admit I'm still a little lost. I still love her even if I don't necessarily want to get back with her. I returned to work, I continue to exercise but the lack of physical and emotional affection is a bit difficult. Having to start all over again seems so difficult to me, I admit that I don't like the culture of one-night stands. I want to get married and have children. I'm a little lost and don't really know what to expect from this post. If you have any advice, explanations for her behavior or need more details, don't hesitate.
