2024.05.13 22:36 Typical-Car2782 Why isn't Garry Tan considered antisemitic?

As background: there are five Jewish supervisors (out of 11) on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors: Dean Preston, Aaron Peskin, Hilary Ronen, Myrna Melgar, and Rafael Mandelman. Mandelman got red-baited in his first race and lost; he decided to go hard-right in the last couple of years. Preston is a socialist, while Peskin, Ronen, and Melgar are kind of left Dems. (Our state senator is also Jewish and a right-wing zionist, and the mayor is also Jewish but doesn't identify.)
So Garry Tan, who really jumped on the bandwagon to recall Jewish DA Chesa Boudin, then pivoted to attacking those four supervisors. (He throws in the only Black supervisor and the only Asian supervisor, who he essentially calls a race traitor, to show that he's not focused on Jews alone.) The inclusion of Melgar, who's from El Salvador and probably keeps the lowest profile on the board, strikes me as him finding out there's another Jew to be mad at without knowing a single thing about her.
The language he uses is pretty clear. He played the "I'm pro-semite, actually" card and this all went away, though he did un-list the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjgUPUKD-Sc&t=665s
"Wipe out the hard-left Peskin-Preston cabal"
"Peskin, Preston...Melgar, Ronen - your days are numbered."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjgUPUKD-Sc&t=389s
"Dean Preston is working hard to expand the tentacles"
https://missionlocal.org/2024/01/y-combinator-ceo-garry-tans-online-rant-spurs-threat-to-supe-police-reports/
"Tan wrote “Die slow motherfuckers” in reference to Supervisors Aaron Peskin, Connie Chan, Myrna Melgar, Shamann Walton, Hillary Ronen, Dean Preston and Ahsha Safaí" (But claimed he was drunk so it doesn't count.)
https://www.axios.com/2023/10/17/web-summit-ceos-israel-statements-spark-controversy
Tan was also highly-opportunistic in bashing competitor Paddy Cosgrave after he made these straightforward comments about Palestine: "I’m shocked at the rhetoric and actions of so many Western leaders & governments, with the exception in particular of Ireland’s government, who for once are doing the right thing. War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are."
I understand that a lot of people give an antisemite like Mike Johnson or John Hagee a pass because they're christian zionists, but Tan is just a weird crank who threatens Jewish politicians. And while our local press is in the tank for right-wing venture capitalists, this is a city that has had majority support for a ceasefire the entire time.
So I really don't get how he wormed his way out of this.

2024.05.03 23:02 Lazy-Cobbler8183 The adventure of Andrew Blake episode 1 : The case of the hitman ( english version)

The adventure of Andrew Blake ( les aventures de Andrew Blake) is a serie of eight novels written by me , i published them of wattpad , I will post english versions of these episodes so the people on this subreddit understand more easily that if I have posted these episodes in their original french versions ( i am french )
Episode 1 : The case of the Hitman
In a cemetery, private detective Andrew Blake stands in front of the grave of his deceased brother, Dwight Blake.
Andrew Blake's point of view:
Here I am, Dwight, in front of your grave, I've been coming to see her here every Friday for 4 years, we were brothers and we were partners in our private detective firm, it's been 4 years since I swore to discover the identity of the scum who killed you, Eddie Vaillant from the film Who framed Roger Rabbit would sympathize with me except that he discovered the identity of his brother's killer, I'm not sure that I would ever solve this case. I remember it, the crime lord nicknamed Mr.Shadows sent a hitman to commit a series of murders, one of his victims was an innocent person, others were gangsters.
4 years earlier, in the house of gangster Jack Russoti, his body collapsed on the ground, shot in the head. Andrew Blake and his brother Dwight Blake were at the crime scene.
Andrew Blake begins to say:
Two police officers, Sergeant Arthur Meadows and Sergeant Harrington, both wearing police uniforms, advance towards them.
Sergeant Meadows and Sergeant Harrington walk away from them.
Later, in the Russoti mansion belonging to the Russoti crime family as well as the crime lord head of this family, Victorio Russoti who has a meeting with his gangsters, they are all sitting around a table on chairs .
Suddenly Victorio's phone rings on this table, he picks up and has a conversation on the phone with the mysterious individual who calls him with a doctored voice:
Suddenly, bullets shot several holes in their windows, causing the death of several gangsters, including all members of the Russoti family except Victorio who fled.
Later, Victorio Russoti came out of his mansion and said:
Later, at Greenstone police station, Commissioner Arthur Brandon said to Inspector Wilson:
Later at the police station, Victorio Russoti enters.
Later, in the interrogation room, sitting in a chair behind a gray table, he is questioned by Detective Andrew Blake and Inspector Joseph Wilson.
Later during the night at the police station in his office, Sergeant Harrington has put photos of suspects on a board, his teammate, Sergeant Arthur Meadows enters his office.
Sergeant Meadows comes out of his office.
Later that night alone in his office, Sergeant Harrington continues to tape photos of suspects to his board when suddenly a mysterious individual wearing a police uniform wearing a black fabric hood with only two holes for the eyes to see appears. begins to enter his office, he shoots Sergeant Harrington in the head with his revolver killing him, Sergeant Harrington collapses on the floor.
The next day in the office of the late Sergeant Harrington, Andrew Blake and Inspector Wilson interrogate Sergeant Meadows near his corpse on the floor.
-At the police station, he told me in his office yesterday that after discovering something from his informant, he was making a list of suspects for the identity of Mr. Shadows said Sergeant Meadows
Later, at a restaurant, Andrew Blake and his brother Dwight Blake are seated around a table on chairs.
Suddenly, Andrew Blake's phone rings, he takes it out of his pants pocket and picks it up and he has a conversation on the phone with the mysterious individual with a doctored voice.
Andrew Blake runs away from his brother Dwight.
Later, in the police station, Andrew Blake walks towards Sergeant Arthur Meadows.
Later in Sergeant Meadows' office, he speaks with Andrew Blake.
Andrew starts to smile and says:
Sergeant Arthur Meadows pulls a revolver from his pants pocket and points it at Andrew.
Andrew Blake runs out of the office.
Later, outside Andrew runs towards the car driven by his brother Dwight which stops in front of their private detective firm.
Suddenly Dwight Blake's car explodes, killing him.
4 years later, private detective Andrew Blake is still in front of the grave of his brother, Dwight Blake in the cemetery, he says:
Don't worry, Dwight, I will find out who Mr.Shadows is and I will avenge you, I promise you, my brother.

2024.04.26 12:02 MarkedMatt About loners and wheter they are a proper faction or not.

Loner isn't a proper faction
It might sound obvious, but people that do not belong to the Zone's factions and aren't in these factions are loners/free stalkers. It also doesn't requires some kind of recruitment or something. There are also cases of members of factions becoming loners. Example: Orest, who used to be in Freedom and Nimble. Proof: https://snipboard.io/igesUY.jpg
Their leadership
Although they are called loners, they are still capable of uniting and/or forming groups and squads. Loners also don't have just 1 leader. For example Cordon Loners leader was Wolf at first, and then Fanatic:
"I'm the boss around here. I'm teaching these greenies and nerds how to not become mutant feed on their first trip into the Zone. It ain't easy, you know? I've spent a good chunk of my life in the Zone, and I've been trying to get out for some time now... God knows how long I've spent at the Cordon... but it's like this place just doesn't want to let me go. It's either a military raid, or another emission, or a profitable job... and every time I think "OK, just this one and then I'm outta here," but here I am." - Wolf's dialogue in Clear Sky
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/Yu8PV3.jpg
"I'm Fanatic, and I'm filling in for the leader since Wolf left. A few Mercs came by here yesterday... and they were some tough bastards, let me tell you. They come here and start making serious demands - "You've got one day to clear this camp out. It's gonna be our new base." Tonight they're coming back, and as you can imagine, they won't be in the mood for a chat." - Fanatic's dialogue in Shadow of Chernobyl
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/XABRGb.jpg
Valerian was another leader of Cordon stalkers during Clear Sky events. He united Cordon stalkers for this reason:
"How should I put it to you... Stalkers and the army used to work together. They gave us weapons, we gave them money, and everyone was happy. Sometimes they'd tell us if a new anomaly cluster emerged. But at some point their commander got too greedy for his own good. He hooked up with the bandits and began to sell them information about our movements. At first we thought the bandits were just lucky, but eventually we caught on to their shady dealings with the army. At that point we got together and decided that the time was ripe for some heads to roll."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/jiQ2uc.jpg
Common stalkers also know and understand the fact that if situation is tough then being alone isn't an option:
"Stalkers are uniting. When the going gets tough, it's no use trying to go it alone. We got the army baring its teeth on one side and bandits choking us on the other. So, caught between a rock and a hard place, we finally made our stand. Let them come if they like - we'll have an answer." - Dialogue of Random Cordon Loner in Clear Sky
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/KqJCXz.jpg
1 last dialogue of random loners in Clear Sky, stating that loners took control over Cordon:
"So much has been going on lately. Believe it or not, stalkers got the Cordon under their control for the first time ever. They even turned the old farm into a base. Who ever thought this would come to pass? If it lasts, the whole Zone will be ruled by stalkers. As it should."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/wch86A.jpg
Agroprom loners during Clear Sky events had leader of their own: Orest.
Dialogue between Scar and random Agroprom Loner:
"Hello." - Loner
"What's going on here?" - Scar
"I haven't made sense of it yet. I came here recently hoping to earn some dough. I don't care what I do, as long as the jobs pay cash." - Loner
"Who's the boss here?" - Scar
"That's Orest. Look for him on the top floor of the central building. Our trader and technician are there too - just as it should be." - Loner
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/cGM6Q2.jpg
Even more: Yantar stalkers during CS events refer to it as "Orest's clan":
"I came here from Agroprom after spending some time fighting in Orest's clan. It was time for a change of scenery. Now I really want to check out the Red Forest, but there's no way to get there because of the Brain Scorcher at the factory. Just getting close is a mission in itself."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/R7kol9.jpg
In Call of Pripyat, Some stalkers work for Beard. He also has a lot of respect, according to random NPCs
"If you're good at stalking - that is, finding artifacts - talk to Beard. He's got a lot of respect here. He's the only man on Skadovsk who'll give you a good price for your artifacts. He's got the connections to transport them outside the Zone. Besides, he's a good man, you know... always there for you with advice or a suitable job." - Dialogue of random Zaton stalker
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/tB5UA4.jpg
"My guys - Spartacus and his crew. They've been around the block. Some were security guards before coming to the Zone and some even come from special police forces, believe it or not. They know which end of a gun goes boom... If they're available, they'd make a good security detail." - Beard answering Degtyarev's "Who could I hire to protect the scientists?" question
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/cJsDfR.jpg
"I have major customers outside the Zone who regularly order specific artifacts, which must be delivered within a specific period of time. You bring me what I ask and I pay you good money for it. Keep in mind that these orders are very important for me, which is why I try to commission several agents at a time... You get the full fee only if you deliver first." - Beard
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/Y6d5Xr.jpg
Their code and brotherhood
"Well, it's pretty simple. Being a stalker means being human. Help your friends in tough times, don't rat them out or stab them in the back, share your medkits and rations with them, cover their backs in a fight and sleep under the same roof or by the same fire. Our main enemy right now are the stinking bandits - the parasites on our collective body. Our goal is to cleanse the Zone of their scum once and for all. Do that, and we'll all be happy!" - Valerian
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/CyQ2Bb.jpg
"You’ve always helped out stalkers in trouble. Although their faction is not very tight-knit, you now have allies in the unofficial stalker brotherhood who will help you in combat and afterwards too." - Description of "A Friend of Stalkers" achievement in Call of Pripyat
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/xEAtfk.jpg
Meaning of S.T.A.L.K.E.R
S.T.A.L.K.E.R doesn't stand for "Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, Robbers", it's basically a coded acronym:
"S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a coded acronym, which we use to mark agents programmed for particular missions. Your mission, as our agent, was to kill Strelok and his group. They got too close to finding out things they shouldn't know. We created a network of psi-fields on the way to the Zone's center in order to recruit agents. You know one of these fields by the name of Brain Scorcher. When a stalker attempts to reach the Zone's center in order to fulfill some wish we acquire control over his consciousness, and program him to a specific mission. A mistake was made, and your mission, was to kill yourself." - C-Consciousness Repsentative
Additional video proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwZxo4UAXao (Start watching from 3:35)
Their activities
Artifact hunting. Most of the stalkers do that.
"Following in the track of those foolhardy loners who call themselves the stalkers, research expeditions are once again embarking on an in-depth study of the Zone. However, the perimeter guarded by the army has other, dangerous inhabitants now - from common poachers to the worst bandit scum. Most of the stalkers roam the Zone in search of anomalies and the so-called artifacts for which they gain quite a profit." - Shadow of Chernobyl's PDA entry called "Year 2011"
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/aPUkrS.jpg
Hunting mutants.
"I'm Gonta. leader of the hunting crew. We destroy mutants for cash. We can also capture them alive - for scientific experiments or if anyone needs an exotic pet... As Trapper used to say, "To each animal its own bullet..."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/5gMV8O.jpg
In Shadow of Chernobyl there's also a mutant hunter called Scarecrow:
"We eliminate monsters, expect for us it's a matter of survival, not profit. Mutant populations are not as numerous; besides, they're living beings too, so we can't permit their annihilation. Some individuals refuse to understand it. An apt illustration is the stalker called Scarecrow. He got his nickname for a reason, selling stuffed mutants. We've warned him before, but all for nothing. So can you do a good deed for mother Earth?" - Description of Lukash's "Kill the stalker called Scarecrow" sidequest
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/7WoYxu.jpg
"Mutant Hunter" achievement in Call of Pripyat, stating that hunters are held in high esteem:
"You don't try to avoid dangerous mutants - you hunt them down and do it well. Good hunters are held in high esteem among stalkers."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/UZMYwb.jpg
Guiding. There are stalker guides. Examples: Guide, Pilot and Garry (plus random stalker guide NPCs in Clear Sky)
There are also diggers.
In Clear Sky they camp at the flea market and their leader is Wild Napr. They search for various valuable things that have been buried at the Garbage.
"I'm looking for something valuable among all this trash. There's a whole lot of stuff here from Soviet times, everything from canned meat to diesel engines. Things like that fetch a pretty penny here in the Zone, all you need is patience and plenty of antirad meds."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/iqzj72.jpg
"I'm like everyone here: hoping for a miracle. Maybe I can dig up something so valuable that I can buy my freedom from the bandits and have enough left to be rich. What, you think I'm dreamin'? Well, it's happened before, it can happen again. I heard about a digger who came across a bunch of military radios. They say he's a respected stalker now, with cash to splash and good equipment. I've never met him tho', it all happened before I got here."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/pyhgUP.jpg
"Dude, the Garbage is where the reds once dumped all kinds of contaminated crap. Transistors, shmansistors, rotors, shmotors... you get the idea. Of course, they'd be no use to anybody if it weren't for our beloved Zone. You've probably noticed there're no hardware stores and no mechanics' stations, but we still gotta fix up our gear somehow. That makes this crap a gold mine! As for radiation, no one gives a damn about it anymore, so everyone and their dog is flocking here for some easy pickings. Some dig the stuff, some trade it, and some collect their dues - that's us."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/e8qODa.jpg
Other diggers explore underground locations, tunnels, laboratories.
"Seriy? Well, OK, listen. They say Strelok used to sneak around here. On top of that, his stash is somewhere around here below ground. I heard his group even has its base here. We also looked for the stash but we found jack shit. I'll give you the info about the stash, maybe you'll be luckier. This is everything we have on the stash." - Mole
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/accounts/profile
Description of "Eliminate the bandits by the Agroprom Research Institute" sidequest implies that they worked for Sid:
"Some bandits turned up by the Agroprom Research Institute. They're disturbing my diggers when they sort through the rubbish. You solve the problem, I'll owe you."
"It's all sad, that much I know. There's always been lots of people on the periphery, but half of them have never been deep into the Zone and there aren't enough artifacts for everyone. They even tore out and took away everything that they could from the laboratories and factories. Soon there won't be anything left to do here but open a restaurant...with an exotic view and cuisine." - Dialogue of Random Garbage Loner in Shadow of Chernobyl
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/UQcSyK.jpg
Their relation with military and scientists
I won't dvelve in how much stalkers (most of them at least) hate the military, but I do have post about that. If anyone is interested check this: https://www.reddit.com/stalkecomments/1bxhqtx/about_how_disliked_military_is_and_thei
In any case, military not only used to cooperate with Cordon loners in Clear Sky, but also protected them from bandits at 1 point:
"This place used to be pretty tame. There was an established routine: newbies kept to what they knew, stalkers gathered artifacts to sell to Sidorovich, and the military provided "protection" from the bandits. The army boys were mostly decent people. But then everything changed. A bunch of goons came our way from the Garbage and started doing business with the commander. Now there's no longer any order, and the military cannot be trusted. Yet, bad luck often brings good luck. Stalkers have now joined forces, so the army can no longer push us around." - Dialogue of Random Cordon Loner NPC
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/xCdyFL.jpg
Minority of stalkers also sign up the contract with the army.
"Soldiers who underwent special training following their service in the Zone or stalkers who voluntarily signed a contract with the Army. Usually equipped with various support gear and well-armed. Used mainly to study the causes and effects of the catastrophe and to map out the Zone. They can work on their own or in small detachments of up to five people. Military stalkers do not allow normal stalkers to approach and open fire on sight." PDA entry about Military Stalkers
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/lzcvHw.jpg
We also know that some stalkers work for scientists. They are hired for different tasks. These tasks include: protection, artifact hunting and taking some measurements. CoP also mentions that some stalkers can even receive official permit to stay in the Zone:
"You know, when a stalker needs money he's got two ways to go: find artifacts and offload them to traders at 30 kopecks on the ruble, or work for the scientists. They always come up with something or other a stalker can do, be it the delivery of a rare artifact or a mutant carcass. But above all else, if you get on their good side they can issue you a permit to the Zone, all official and legit. Picture yourself passing a military post, lugging a full backpack of loot, and being saluted! Warms my heart! So anyway, the scientists' bunker is situated west of Yanov station. They've got one stalker working for them already, maybe they can hire another one like you." - Dialogue of random Jupiter stalker NPC
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/HpvMeD.jpg
"Talk to the stalkers. I'm guessing they would be happy to do some work for the eggheads... After all, that would give them an official permit to be in the Zone." - Bonesetter
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/UNdtmK.jpg
Stalkers can also officially join the scientists. Examples: Gray/Novikov and Topol & his team:
"A while now. At first, I was hunting for artifacts just like everyone else, but my health was declining steadily until I realized I just can't do it anymore. Thankfully, I've got a brain cell or two, so it's not difficult to find work. I spent about a year with a faction made up of former scientists. They were good people... it's a pity they died in a blind persuit of some hazy goal. After that I spent some time wandering the Zone and then I started working for the scientists. No regrets so far." - Dialogue of Gray/Novikov in Call of Pripyat
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/pPTizI.jpg
"Yeah baby. We're now officially known as Iskra scientific research investigation team! Don't be thinking that we forgot all about you now that we're scientists, haha! My "colleagues" and I have discussed this matter in great depth and our conclusion is... That you've earned this, buddy! If you find yourself in an anomaly or hit by an emission, God forbid, take a moment to send us a thank you note. We'll receive the message, trust me!" - Topol

2024.04.14 18:32 DimMakracy Taking Note, A Side Venture, To Illustrate An Example

I was in this post comment section:
https://www.reddit.com/UFOs/comments/1c1prih/comment/kzjnsm1/?context=3
When suddenly I was no longer able to enter my comment, so I'm doing so here, just for the record and as an example of the narrative control employed in that topic or related topic, but in this case related to dual use technology transfers and the business surrounding them:
No I did not say you were skeptical of the entire phenomenon, I'm saying you practice skepticism recklessly and to the benefit of no one.
You are obviously not getting what I am saying at all. Let's put aside any extraterrestrial theories for the time being, let's just focus on what the government is saying and doing, and people in it, and how they are at odds within one another. Because many are odds with one another in case you can't tell. They didn't just all agree to do this thing and engage the public about it while selecting a handful of people to go do that. They do face retaliation, there has been pushback, what's it going to take for you to tell that there are people taking risks now in a very unprecedented way than 40 or 80 years ago? Did you ever stop and ask, why now?
Like, do you know a thing about how arms trade works and how dual use technology transfer proliferation affects the balance of power with adversaries. The obvious thing for anyone is that if the US had anything secret, it would hide it to avoid it being discovered or stolen by adversaries, right? So do you ever ask yourself why China made such great strides in its military capability for decades and yet how this only started being a wider spoken concern 8-10 years ago? Do you yourself know the progress of Chinese military capability as evolved by the year? Did you ever pay attention to what gains they made in ICBM range, or how? Did you ever pay attention to how many F-35 contracts have been made with various allies in recent years, especially in light of China's development?
If a secret craft was being tested, decades ago it would have been more feasible to keep the whole thing quiet by keeping any witnesses quiet. It's not the same thing in this day and age. So basically the US is stuck between either dealing with these allegation of this out of this world presence with these things, or it has to acknowledge that it does indeed have something. We're not all oblivious like that, its pointless to fool the American public indefinitely. Now, with that said, and if the obvious precaution is to keep any information about such secret craft from adversaries, then do you not also spot the contradiction between taking that precaution and being lax on trade whereby China can get bits of pieces of technology or reverse engineered parts here and there to improve its existing capability to be closer to our own? Because that's a thing in case you never noticed, their gains come from us, and not all espionage but largely through trade if anything.
So if the US has been making this mistake for decades, and if China has been moving towards parity with the US based on that, do you really think that its wise to bet on having secret technology or rely on using it in order to check this security vulnerability. Are you familiar with espionage operation by the China into various national laboratories and facilities whereby they gained US nuclear secrets, to achieve near parity in warheads in the 1990s? You think that wouldn't happen again, especially if any of these new "secret" discoveries hit the market it any way? If the US didn't have anything else up its sleeve, why would they be selling F-35s so widely as of late? If those clients realize there is something more, how do you think they'd view their current contracts for F-35s?
Like do you not understand at all what I'm saying in regards to the military industrial complex and why their motivations for profit conflict with coherent strategies for national security? And all of a sudden, you're seeing this whistleblowers, other people with testimony, etc., do you think these people are all on the payroll of the MIC corporations or would you consider that maybe they're not all for that and have a good idea what kind of schemes those corporations are pulling? And, when some of these people are put under NDA, do you realize how difficult it is for them to speak out about anything?
Perhaps you've followed the ongoing scandals with Boeing? And that's based on civilian aircraft. You couldn't conceive of a scenario in which there could also be safety issues with untested or undertested aircraft that is so wrapped up in secrecy that to participate in the testing, such NDA would be implemented, and that if something went wrong, there goes ones ability to seek compensation through usual channels? Do you recall the thing what Garry Nolan said, about cases of people, who apparently died, from... something?
It may or may not be related, but just to illustrate the idea that something could happen to people involved in projects where they might be impeded from seeking damages in the case something did happen? If this happened too frequently, and if everyone was told the same thing, and were made to feel like they couldn't do anything about it, don't you think that after some point they might band together and try their damnedest? Like do you really believe anyone and everyone will leave matters of national security up to the judgement of very few hands against the interests of themselves, their loved ones, of the general public?
This is why I keep bringing up the question, can you give the benefit of the doubt to others, as in not me, but these pilots and whistleblowers, etc. because of the very complicated situation they may be but you would have no idea of until they get through metaphorical mine fields of retaliation and suppression?
You said it should be looked at scientifically with scientists, ok genius, what is DARPA then? How do you expect any scientist or body of scientists to get disclosure or reforms or anything without having to challenge existing power structures in very serious ways, and do you honestly expect them to be more adept at that than people who live in that cloak and dagger environment day to day for their whole career?
THIS is what I mean by you being naive. What you're saying is of no help to these people, its of no help to the general public, I don't think its of any help to you either unless you have something to gain through further secrecy. But national security does not gain in this. The US has been making the same mistake with China as it did with the Soviet Union, and unless you get more of the public aware as to how, things won't change nor be solved by new technological discoveries or advances.
This is all without taking any consideration to life or entities beyond this planet, or inside of it, or what have you, this is all just strictly dealing with humanity, and if these ideas above ever occurred to you before then you would have said it right away than some nonsense about witches and goblins and religion. If you're telling me you know this all before, you're either full of shit or willing to deceive others, and neither look so good.

2024.04.06 19:56 MarkedMatt About how disliked Military is and their wrongdoings.

Valerian:
"From Sidorovich, you say... so, you know about the commander, too? Alright, I'll be straight with you. We used to cooperate with the army. They'd allow us to transport goods safely through the outpost and let us in on some useful information. We paid well for their services. But then we found out that jerk of a commander worked for both sides - he supplied the bandits with our whereabouts! Then he went and sold two of our guys as slaves at the Garbage! That was the last straw."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/tLkHdQ.jpg
Beard:
"Think about it. What would those jarheads be doing in our camp? Trust me when I say that they prefer to steer well clear of this place. Too many of us here remember what it was like to crawl through dirt at the Cordon, under fire from their damn machine guns..."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/nXaKG3.jpg
Random Cordon Loners in Shadow of Chernobyl:
"All I have to do is wait for those pansies in uniform to go out for lunch...There's no point to hang out here, I need to go to the Big Land, but they won't let me, no matter what. I'm not the only one trying to get out either, but still we can't slip by them yet." This dialogue I received from Tolik. I wouldn't call him some random NPC but nonetheless Wolf, Nimble and Tolik can have dialogues of other random loner NPCs.
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/M1vxzg.jpg
"I'm stuck here, you got it, stuck. I want to go home, and they're not letting me. That's all the news. The guys that walk deep into the Zone, the ones that have been around, they say different things. And at times they bring the goodies too - you'd get jealous. They say that there are places like mounds of gold: all for the taking. Granted, not many will get there, and even less will make it back with the finds."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/j73asP.jpg
"Let's head to camp, you'll hear all the rumors there. All who are doing this for the first time - the rookies like you - usually drop by to pick up some pointers or rest a while. There are soldiers standing nearby: don't be too afraid of them, but don't get in their way either - they can shoot and not think twice about it...Here by the trader - well, the retailer of the local merchandise - there's a nice, calm little place where you can break camp."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/FfJKk5.jpg
Random Cordon Loner(s) in Clear Sky:
"The army's nothing but a bunch of dirty rotten crooks. Their job is to seal the Zone tight and shut off all access. But have you ever wondered how we manage to get all kinds of goods from the outside, and the outside world gets artifacts and other illegal items from the Zone? Of course, it all goes through the army boys, and you can be sure they're lining their pockets well with each transaction. It used to be that you would wet their beak and they would keep their word, but no longer. Pay or no pay, you just can't be safe with them. What happened was that stalkers, who could have just stuck their heads in the sand like they did, actually began to stand up to the military. It's even rumored that they've taken the outpost commander hostage."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/53lHPz.jpg
Army Warehouses Freedom NPCs in Clear Sky:
"There used to be a military base and army warehouses here, but the emission hit them real hard. Those who survived ain't so cocky no more - they're hiding from stalkers in their base, scared shitless of showing their faces. They keep requesting an evacuation team from their HQ, but nobody is coming to help them. I figure they ain't having themselves too good a time outside the Zone either. That or the signal simply ain't getting through. I almost feel sorry for the poor bastards - they're rats and all, but even rats should stick up for their own."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/V4drwN.jpg
Funny dialogue of Freedomers:
"We've arranged a little deal with the military. They take our bullets and we take their base. Sounds fair to me. Me and the boys are "negotiating" as best we can."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/0PgNJU.jpg
Sidorovich in Shadow of Chernobyl thinks they have God complex:
"They guard and protect, what else? No one really knows whether they're guarding the Zone or protecting the rest of the world from it. Sometimes they send whole expeditions here to look for something... But I'll tell you something: they don't respect the Zone and the Zone doesn't like them either, that's why they return home in body bags very often. What else is there? Well, they look down at everyone and act like gods or something. They have no respect for stalker rules and won't ever help you even if you're dying right in front of them. They'll gladly shoot you themselves tho', and they don't get reprimanded for that... I've got a few contacts among them...you know, people always need vodka and...umm, magazines, right? Don't annoy them - they'll whack you for nothing."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/CJ6r7O.jpg
Topol in Call of Pripyat, describing the army guy (Sokolov):
"Hah. Garry met him as he was running away from zombies. He was lucky it was Garry, too, 'cause most others would have taken him out for sure. He doesn't leave the bunker much anymore and I don't blame him."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/tyujfH.jpg
We also know that even ex members strongly dislike the military.
Semyon Lambee:
"How did I end up here? Same as always, I was assigned here. I thought they'd send me to a unit close to my town, but they sent me to the Zone. Here you can forget about writing letters or going on vacation. Well, during the day it's your typical service: orders, marching, saluting... but come nighttime you better start praying, 'cause it gets real scary. Say they send you out to guard the perimeter at night, and you keep hearing howling... closer and closer. Sometimes you even see the beast. I've gone gray from that shit... and the older soldiers are complete dicks - they wake you up at night and tell you to go get them vodka. I don't care if they kill me, but I ain't taking a step outside the base at night after that one time... Vitka, a guy that was drafted here along with me, did what they asked and they found him in the morning, all blue with eyes the size of APC wheels... he got so scared his heart ruptured and he died on the spot..."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/AVLYDz.jpg
Kolobok, former Army Grunt:
"Me, I'm from a small town. Finished high school, served in the army. Got out - no jobs, no use going to college... Make a long story short, I got through the boot camp and landed right here. Actually, I served at the Cordon at first. Once a colonel of ours decided he needed a rare artifact to heal him up. Didn't like the idea of hiring stalkers, so our squad got the "job." The map they gave us was thirty friggin' years old. Those bastards... Less than a few hours in half our guys were already gone from anomalies. Then the dogs, then the bloodsuckers. Before the day was done it was just sarge and myself. Thank God we had our medkits, so we managed to crawl over to Duty's base. My leg got all hacked up - I was lucky to keep it after all that. Anyway, Duty folks put us back on our feet and showed us the way back. They're real men who live a good, simple life, and I've made a lot of friends during my stay. Anyway, soon as service was over, I grabbed my things and came right back into the Zone. I found Duty's base and asked to join, and hey, they took me in."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/rbzkaU.jpg
Agroprom Deserter in Shadow of Chernobyl:
"Hmm. I don't know. I am a deserter according to the military code and I need to get out of the Zone somehow. When we first got here there was a Zaporozhets in the garage that was almost working. I brought it back to life in half an hour but that damn captain took it for himself claiming he should have it according to the code. He drove it along this road and dumped it in the rain by the gate. If only I could get that car - making a run for it is much safer on wheels!"
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/kiRDna.jpg
Krylov also hates the military:
"I can't really get into that - we've got some discipline in this place, after all. Our general Krylov certainly used to be a military man. I heard a few stories about how, just as the Zone formed, the government organized a military operation in here. They were sent to the very center of the Zone with an order to blow it all to hell with nuclear explosives. Can you imagine what that means? These guys were sent with no protection, no detectors, no information about what to expect in the Zone. Many perished in anomalies right off, and most of those who didn't were done in by an emission. The few survivors were left behind to die a slow death. General Krylov is one of those few. I don't know who he's pals with, but he hates the military ever since he and his buddies were sent straight to their deaths. He's got some connections in Spetsnaz though. Spetsnaz only got real men. Sometimes Duty crosses paths with them. That's pretty much it - consider it the abridged version."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/HP1pVq.jpg
We also know that Duty has/had skirmishes with Army Grunts. Dialogue of Agroprom trader Thrush:
"I know what you're trying to say: Duty is in league with the army, right? I hear it all the time, but it just ain't true. No, I used to think that myself, until I witnessed a showdown between them. I was walking along, searching for loot, when I heard shots. I approached silently and used my optics. There it was: Duty fighters and the army boys shooting each other from a little over 100 feet. I have no idea how it ended, 'cause I sneaked out of there, but it sure wasn't a display of brotherly love. There's another problem though. Our guys saw some stalkers in black palling it up with Spetsnaz. Makes you think bad things, don't it?"
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/tLFf5B.jpg
Other than that, in Shadow of Chernobyl Voronin can give Marked One/Strelok a sidequest about killing Agroprom stalkers. Description of "Destroy the stalkers' camp"
"There's one delicate matter, but our guys definitely shouldn't be involved in it. The presence of neutrals on the factory at Agroprom isn't advantageous for our allies. Here's the assignment: free the promzone from the presence of stalkers, no matter who they are and what group they belong to. Understood?" We all know who their ally is.
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/nP3mMQ.jpg
And lastly, although military is hated by many, PDA entry about Military Stalkers states the following:
"Soldiers who underwent special training following their service in the Zone or stalkers who voluntarily signed a contract with the Army. Usually equipped with various support gear and well-armed. Used mainly to study the causes and effects of the catastrophe and to map out the Zone. They can work on their own or in small detachments of up to five people. Military stalkers do not allow normal stalkers to approach and open fire on sight." This is one of the evidences indicating that not literally every stalker hates the military.
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/lzcvHw.jpg
Their wrongdoings
Dialogue about Khaletsky supplying bandits about stalkers location, and selling 2 of their guys as slaves at the Garbage I provided above, but it also should be noted that Khaletsky literally had no real reason to betray stalkers. Valerian in one of his dialogues stated that everyone was happy and that Khaletsky simply got too greedy
Valerian:
"How should I put it to you... Stalkers and the army used to work together. They gave us weapons, we gave them money, and everyone was happy. Sometimes they'd tell us if a new anomaly cluster emerged. But at some point their commander got too greedy for his own good. He hooked up with the bandits and began to sell them information about our movements. At first we thought the bandits were just lucky, but eventually we caught on to their shady dealings with the army. At that point we got together and decided that the time was ripe for some heads to roll."
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/jiQ2uc.jpg
Valerian also said that army either underpaid, or didn't paid at all:
"Pretty well, you say? I'd say really well! It came at a price though, because those army bastards kept squeezing us, organizing raids against us and shooting our brothers down from their choppers. They controlled all the trading that went on, and if they caught you with loot they'd just take it from you. At the same time, doing jobs for them was hardly worth it - they paid jack shit, and that's if they paid at all. But justice is no sucker, not even in the Zone! When Khaletskiy sold us out to the bandits, we decided we've had enough of their shit and took him hostage. The rest of the army goons shat their pants - they haven't been bothering us since, seeing as we have their commander. So, basically, we've clawed ourselves out a nice spot under the Zone's sun, and nothing will change that now! You have to appreciate the importance of these developments: we set up a stalker base and now the Cordon is in safe hands. And it's only going to get better from here, you can bet on it!"
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/VMb9ea.jpg
Khaletskiy's "buddies" also only tried to save him mainly because Khaletskiy owes them money:
"Of course they'll save him - the rat bastard owes them a whole bunch of dough! He ran their operations on his own and stashed the cash away somewhere. Listen, I've got an idea. The commander's got only two men he can count on - they served together at the outpost and he cut them in on the deals, so they'll do whatever they can to get him out. If we dispose of them, the bastard will realize nobody's coming for him. He'll crack and we'll beat out of him the location of the stash with the loot. We split the money, and Sidorovich gets the case. What do you say?"
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/j2tYBx.jpg
Higher brass in Call of Pripyat tried to make Kovalsky a fall guy:
"When Colonel Kovalsky, commander of the Stingray group, returned from the Zone, he was forced to explain the reasons for the failure of Operation Fairway. Following a dragged-out investigation and the brass' failed attempt to make him the fall guy, the Colonel was finally given an honorable discharge."
Additional video proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Nk_hy4HY1k (Start watching from 11:32)
From Khaletskiy, we can also learn few things: 1) Khaletskiy and other lower ranking soldiers aren't paid well and that the bosses are making a killing out of the Zone (profiting from it a lot. This is a wrongdoing of their higher brass but point stands still):
"So what if I let loot through the Cordon for some cash? I live and let others live, understand? Do you know even what my official salary is, asshole? Exactly, you try living on that! They pay me nothing and expect me to feel pride in my job and in my country... The bosses are making a killing out of the Zone, just like everyone else. Why shouldn't I? My job is to do what I'm ordered and survive. So, I'm surviving as best I can. Curse this whole place and all the assholes in it... I don't know whether to shoot them all or to blow my own brains out"
Additional proof: https://snipboard.io/TaAhDV.jpg
It's also pretty possible that it was the military who wanted Agroprom Deserter to die. Detailed description of "Kill the soldier" sidequest:
"A soldier has to bite the dust. The job is a piece of cake, except... it's weird that the target's a man in uniform, and the customer really has his dander up."

2024.02.23 00:37 Salty_Pie5609 Map rankings from an Xbox Series X player Level 85

Would love to see other people's opinions. I feel that very few maps are actually "bad" and it really comes down to personal preference. I'm also going to be combining a couple maps together because I feel that they bring basically the same experience. Last I'm not counting night maps but they're pretty comparable to the day maps (Unless I'm forgetting something)
  1. Carentan - Best mixture of close quarters gun play with long distances sprinkled throughout the map. Makes for a diverse game and really intense situations. I feel that most people agree with this, not much to say. Love this map.
  2. Saint-Marie-du-Mont (and Saint-Marie-Eglise) - Quintessential HLL experience with long distance gun fights and street to street town fighting. A lot more open spaces which requires you to move strategically and is a great map for early game players to really understand mechanics and feel.
  3. Foy - Awesome atmosphere mixed with different regions (forest, town, etc.) that make it feel like a different map depending on where you are. Lots of open areas that reward good aim and fantastic CQB in the forest. Also not much to say I feel most people love Foy. Also, I feel that arty on this map is for some reason more deadly than usually.
  4. Kursk - One of the most unique maps. Kursk provides a barren wasteland littered with trench lines throughout that can legit bring some of the most brutal fighting I've experienced in the game. The windmills and hamlets sprinkled in the map also provide some closer engagements as well. I personally don't use tanks/vehicles that much but I know this map is super fun with them. Overall great map.
  5. Driel - This might be my most controversial opinion and I totally understand that. At first I thought this was a younger brother's clone of Ramagen but over time I've grown to really enjoy the gunplay on this map. Besides it being by far the most beautiful setting, I think it does the bridge section much better than Ramagen because it provides great coverage of a large part of the map and provides a nice mix of medium-long distance fights with CQB on most of the objectives that make for intense encounters. Hopefully the British rework allows the Allies to stand a better chance against German weaponry but for the moment I find myself thoroughly happy when playing this map.
  6. Kharkov - Another one of the snowy maps I've never had a problem with, as I think Kharkov is one of the better designed places in the game. The long distance fighting with all the slopes and ridges mixed with the house to house fighting and the big church-town in the middle create some diverse fighting over the course of the map. I find myself switching from automatic to single shot depending on what objective it is which imo makes for a fun game.
  7. Omaha Beach (and Utah Beach) - I'll admit I never realized the difference between these maps until a couple months ago, but nonetheless I don't think there is anything WRONG with these maps, they're just good. I feel that on Xbox these got overplayed to the point where I got bored after a couple months. If you end up as the Germans on defense on the beach it can make for some amazing meat grinder moments for those poor Americans but after that the map plays basically like Saint-Marie-du-Mont, which once again isn't a problem per say, but isn't too exciting after a while.
  8. Hill 400 (and Hurtgen Forest) - I know that a lot of people enjoy the fighting on this map but for me it is way too slow in an already slow moving game for me. There are times I like forest combat and the atmosphere is stellar on this map but there is nothing more annoying than scanning an area for 20-25 seconds just to move a couple meters and get +50 headshot from a Kar98k. I will say I love the bunker combat in this and fighting to control a hill to then get the previously mentioned bunker is very fun, but the standard forest combat on Hill 400 just isn't the most exciting to me. Good nonetheless though. Paper Mill is also one of the most fun objectives to fight over in the game.
  9. Purple Heart Lane - This by farrrr used to be my number #1 but after so much of playing it I got very bored and started to notice the problems with the map. I understand it's historically accurate for all the flooding but holy shit is it annoying. I'm not proud to admit it but I have died way too many times to drowning on Purple Heart Lane. I don't think this necessarily kills the map but just like Omaha Beach it plays too much like Saint-Marie-du-Mont with the bushes and hedgerows which makes it feel boring to me.
  10. Ramagen - Honestly I think Ramagen has potential to be one of the most balanced maps with the standard terrain and slopes, big bridge, then vertical and forest gunplay, but that damn bridge kills it for me. I'm not saying it's game breaking because you do have the underpass and good tactics can take the bridge without it being a total meat grinder, but good command and SL is hard to come by nowadays. The fact that the bridge is the only way to get from one side to another makes good airheads and garrys essential for a good game. If not, well you get the meat grinder. Otherwise I think Ramagen is a fun map but I wish there was another way to cross the river besides the bridge.
  11. El Alamein - Lag, lag, lag. On Xbox I am plagued by lag on this damn map which makes it sooooo unenjoyable. I understand my college apartment isn't going to have the best Wifi connection but holy shit I lag if I'm surrounded by more than 8-9 people on El Alamein. Other than that I think the ultra-long distance gunplay is pretty boring (especially because my aim can be awful sometimes) and the fact that neither the Allies or Axis have semi-automatic rifles (I know it might not be historically accurate) makes it even worse. Fix the lag and I would enjoy it a bit more because I think the concept of a massive expansive dessert with pockets of buildings can be fun but for the moment it high key sucks.
  12. Stalingrad - Oh, what have they done to my boy... A couple months ago I would have said this map is S-tier but now I can't even look at it in the face. This map is the reason I'm even making this list. IT CRASHES ALMOST EVERY GAME FOR ME. No joke I cannot go 10-15 minutes without a freeze and my game crashing. Stalingrad does so much right in map design and gameplay but they need to fix the crashing because for me it makes it the only unplayable map in Hell Let Loose.
Hope you enjoyed my list. I wrote this angrily after crashing from a Stalingrad match so excuse my rambling. Once again I don't think any map is genuinely bad (El Alamein comes close) but it is my personal preference. Would love to see other lists below.

2024.02.03 09:43 Cogitoergosum1981 Dev's Great Escape

Dev's Great Escape
DUBLINTIMEMACHINE: On this day in 1919, Eamon De Valera, assisted by Michael Collins, made a daring escape from Lincoln Prison in Lincolnshire England. Like some bizarre cartoonish cliché, the mission was accomplished using a copied key smuggled in a cake!
Incarcerated alongside the Long Fellow Dev were Seán McGarry and Seán Milroy. They were falsely accused of conspiring with the Germans against the British Empire. This was also part of a general roundup of any and all Sinn Fein members. This imprisonment of three important party members and the leader crippled the ambitions of Irish independence. The Big Fella Collins was tasked with initiating a jailbreak from a foreign enemy soil whilst keeping himself and his allies out of English clutches. Cue a montage of innovation and frustration whilst the greatest minds of Eire tried several different, fruitless schemes. The eventual masterplan involved 4 parts.
Step 1. Dev used his position as a Catholic mass celebrant in the jail to make a mould of the Chaplin's key using candle wax. This proved easier said than done. The first two didn't fit, but the third time was a charm. This mould was smuggled out to the Big Fella.
Step 2. A cake, substantial enough to conceal a large prison key but not too large to attract suspicion, was baked and delivered to Dev in Lincoln Prison. Sadly, history does not see fit to record the flavour!
Step 3. At approximately 7:40 pm on 3rd February 1919, the Long Fellow, McGarry, and Milroy liberate themselves from their cells using the key. They cheekily relock them, which bought them valuable time concealing their absence. The fugitives then covertly made their way to the prison exercise yard, dodging the staffing spotlights to the tune of the Mission Impossible theme (probably). Awaiting them were The Big Fella, Harry Boland, and Frank Kelly.
Step 4. Under cover of darkness, vaulting the back walls, back alleys, and back gardens of Lincolnshire like lockdown party-goers escaping a Garda raid, they reached the Adam and Eve Pub. Here, a taxi spirited them away to a safe house in Manchester.
In 1950, Dev returned to the scene of the crime 31 years later, no longer an escapee but a Taoiseach. Treated as a head of State, he was given a tour of the prison and, over a formal dinner, explained to the governor how he had escaped his "hospitality" back in 1919. And the rest is history.

Atarita - Eren Eroğlu - Turkish - 95 / 100
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a game that doesn't compromise on any part of the experience, every part of it is crafted with great effort and care. In one word, it's fantastic.
Attack of the Fanboy - Christian Bognar - 5 / 5
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a superb Metroidvania that reignites the franchise in exciting ways and only gets better the longer you play it. Meticulously crafted platforming mixed with exhilarating combat makes for a game that is nearly impossible to put down.
But Why Tho? - Kate Sanchez - 8.5 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a vibrant reimaging of ancient Persian myth. It’s a turning of the page for a traditionally Orientalist franchise, and it never sacrifices gameplay to do so. The Lost Crown is the right mix of difficult ingenuity and self-pacing that makes the Metroidvaia inspiration a perfect pairing.
CGMagazine - Philip Watson - 8.5 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is not just a good Metroidvania game, but it is a great addition to the catalogue of titles in the Prince of Persia franchise.
COGconnected - Mark Steighner - 85 / 100
The Lost Crown is a fun and engaging 2.5D action platformer. It borrows a number of mechanics from several years’ worth of recent Metroidvanias, but adds a few ideas and quality of life features of its own, too. Maybe best of all, it’s a game for both newcomers and Metroidvania veterans
Cerealkillerz - Nick Erlenhof - German - 7.9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown managed the leap into the new genre of Metroidvanias really well. The battles are challenging, moving through the levels is enormous fun and there are visually impressive counterattacks to marvel at. The fact that the characters and story are inconsequential and the backtracking can be a bit tedious should not deter genre fans too much.
Checkpoint Gaming - Bree Maybe - 8.5 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an incredibly pleasant surprise. Brilliant gameplay and gorgeous visuals make it utterly addictive to play, and in my time with it, I never wanted to put it down. The only fault the experience really has is the story, and while it is perfectly serviceable, it's never sufficiently engaging, even if the gameplay itself is enough to keep you going. If you are looking for a new Metroidvania to sink your teeth into, this is one I can highly recommend, and a strong return to form for the previously long-resting franchise.
Console Creatures - David Pietrangelo - Recommended
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a welcome return to the franchise. It packs a punch with exciting combat, challenging platforming, great visuals, and tons of secrets to uncover.
Easy Allies - Michael Damiani - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a successful reinvention of the dormant franchise that carves out a marvelous new identity, one that clearly has a bright future.
Entertainium - Eduardo Rebouças - Worth your time
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an exciting addition to the admittedly crowded market in its particular style of play, but it’s one that does enough of its own flavor and delivery that makes it very much worth playing. That’s all too true for those who’ve enjoyed Prince of Persia in the past thanks to its ties in design to the classic games of the past in the form of traversal and to some degree, some of its combat encounters. For as limiting as these games can be simply due to the tenants of the genre, there’s enough here to make this one stand out from the pack.
Everyeye.it - Riccardo Cantù - Italian - 8.5 / 10
The Lost Crown is a delightful new beginning for the saga, a project that exudes all the passion infused by its developers
FandomWire - Lisa Tolmak - 8 / 10
The stunning visuals and superb animations elevate the entire experience. This game emanates style from every corner, with each of its vastly unique biomes coming to life with awe-inspiring visuals. From eerie sewers and lush forests to opulent palaces and icy mountains, each biome is an entirely different world with a distinctive atmosphere.
Bombastic soundtracks set the vibe in each level and rev up during boss battles, while the overall sound design allows you to be fully immersed in the world. Gorgeous and detailed cinematics to boot, continuously had me staring at the screen in awe. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a stylish and challenging action platformer that nails every aspect that makes a great Metroidvania and pushes the genre forward with its clever Memory Shard feature. and while I encountered a particularly disappointing bug, the game’s excellent platforming, tough, rhythmic combat, and stunning visuals more than made up for it.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown isn’t just a powerful new contender in the Metroidvania genre, it’s also a worthy entry in the series that adds new flavor to the franchise. Even if you’re disappointed that this isn’t The Sands of Time Remake you’ve been waiting for, The Lost Crown is a jewel of a game that you shouldn’t let slip through your fingers.
GGRecon - Tarran Stockton - 4.5 / 5
It's tempting for me to say that Prince of Persia is back with the release of The Lost Crown and leave it at that. But that feels like a disservice to a game so boldly different from its predecessors because ultimately it's more than that.
While it certainly still feels like a Prince of Persia game at the core, it stands on its own merits as a consistently brilliant and challenging Metroidvania experience, holding its own against some of the genre's very best.
GameGrin - Alana Dunitz - 10 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an awesome action platformer that pulls you in with its beautiful world and lore, evolving the metroidvania genre with a lot of great changes. You must play this game!
GameSpot - Steve Watts - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia boldly reinvents itself as a metroidvania, and it feels like it has found its new home.

Gamefa - Mostafa Zahedi - Persian - 8 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an amazing 2D experience that embarks you on a great adventure in ancient Persia. from thrilling bossfights to entertaining characters, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown delivers almost everything you expect from a 2D metroidvanian experience
GamesRadar+ - Joe Donnelly - 4 / 5
For those wanting more in the same vein as 3D adventures like The Sands of Time, this ain't it. But it is a return to relative form for a series whose last mainline outing landed 14 years ago – it's just disappointing that this very good game was held back from true greatness.
Gaming Age - Matthew Pollesel - 8 / 10
The big drawback to The Lost Crown is that if you’re not already a fan of Metroidvanias, it’s hard to imagine anything here will suddenly make you a believer in the genre. It’s a well-made Metroidvania, to be sure, but there’s nothing here that breaks new ground.
Gaming Nexus - Elliot Hilderbrand - 8.5 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown strikes a harmonious balance between combat, puzzles, and exploration, providing a satisfying blend for players. The shadow of the deluxe edition looms, introducing cosmetic items and early access at a questionable price point. Despite this, the core game experience remains untarnished, making the deluxe edition an optional, albeit somewhat disappointing, add-on. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a delightful journey, offering a well-paced adventure that managed to keep me engaged from start to finish.
GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat - 9 / 10
The Lost Crown is a fantastic game. Not only does it capture the biggest strength of Prince of Persia's earliest sidescrolling instalments, it also reinvigorates the series in spectacular fashion with its Metroidvania design structure. From level design to combat, from the platforming to its visual style, from the exploration to the soundtrack, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an impressive accomplishment in more ways than one, and one of Ubisoft's best games in years.
GamingTrend - Jack Zustiak - 80 / 100
Elegance, finesse, style – whatever you want to call it, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has it. It sets the stage with familiar Prince of Persia elements while performing them in new ways. The production comes with a few stumbles, yet The Lost Crown always recovers with style, proving itself as a worthy heir to the elegance that this series represents.
Generación Xbox - Frank Montes - Spanish - 90 / 100
A worthy representative of the Metroidvania subgenre
Glitched Africa - Marco Cocomello - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an enjoyable and challenging Metroidvania game. Its refreshing setting combined with its intense combat make this journey through Mount Qaf worth the 20-hour trek. The boss fights are a real standout in the game delivering some unforgettable combat encounters.
Hey Poor Player - Andrew Thornton - 4.5 / 5
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is, in many ways, a new direction for this series, but there’s enough pulled from the past that it very much still feels like a Prince of Persia game. With excellent combat, some of the best platforming you’ll find in any Metroidvania, a fantastic world to explore, and a series of incredible powers to unlock, The Lost Crown keeps getting more interesting as you make your way through it. Fans of the series, the genre, or simply great games will want to check out Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
IGN - Phil Hornshaw - 8 / 10
Returning to a 2D perspective lets Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown perfect its controls and combat while capturing everything that was great about the heyday of the series.
IGN Spain - Rafa Del Río - Spanish - 8 / 10
The saga's return to the 2D platform genre in the form of a modern metroidvania leaves us with a challenging and sometimes desperate, but always delightful experience.
Impulsegamer - Nathan Misa - 4.5 / 5
Fun 2.5D platforming, combo-based combat and clever puzzles wrapped in a highly polished, content-filled package. A must-play adventure.
Infinite Start - Grant E. Gaines - 9 / 100
Overall I think Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a solid experience. It's far from perfect, as it can be surprisingly difficult/cheap/annoying, but most of the time it's a creative metroidvania. Add in some genuinely cool boss battles, climatic parry moves, and countless locations to explore and you have an experience well worth considering.
Kakuchopurei - Jonathan Leo - 90 / 100
I never thought 2024 would start with a banger of a 2D title, especially from a company like Ubisoft that's known for copy-pasta open-world games, yet here we are. While Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has elements from other 2D search action titles, it adds a few more innovations and uses its platforming and level design talent to create a remarkable and memorable platforming and sword-slinging experience, polish and all. Give this Metroidvania a whirl; you'll be pleased to know that it keeps the Prince of Persia platforming legacy alive and very well, thanks to its new search action trappings.
Leadergamer - Alper Dalan - Turkish - 9 / 10
The game that destroyed my prejudices.
Multiplayer First - Dean James - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown may not have had the strongest response from fans upon its initial announcement, but Ubisoft really knocked it out of the ballpark with this one in the end. Coming in at about the 20 to 25-hour mark for a well-explored playthrough felt just about right for this type of game to avoid overstaying its welcome. Taking Prince of Persia and mixing it with the Metroidvania genre was a brilliant move, as the gameplay and abilities from the series mesh very well with this style, and it makes me hope this is only the beginning of this franchise’s foray into this new direction and is not just a one-off experience.
Nexus Hub - Sam Aberdeen - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is exceptionally good and marks Ubisoft's best game in years - a shot of old-school 2D platforming action that jolts the franchise back to life.
Nintendo Life - PJ O'Reilly - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a slick return to the roots of this franchise that serves up clever 2.5D action wrapped up in a delightful art style and satisfying story. There's a smart balance here between old-school levels of action and challenge, moreish combat, and neat puzzles, all mixed with accessibility options and fine-tuning that open things up to newcomers and casual players. We knew Ubisoft Montpellier was a pair of safe hands and the team hasn't let us down, serving up the first must-play of 2024 in a Switch port that absolutely does the business.
One More Game - Chris Garcia - Buy
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a supremely stylish and stellar start to 2024, and coming from a company that usually just spews out open-world titles, this is such a welcome entry in their portfolio. Developing this as a "smaller" title worked wonders for the game, as Prince of Persia fits perfectly in a Metroidvania setting that puts gameplay at the forefront of it all.
PC Gamer - Mollie Taylor - 72 / 100
A palatable metroidvania with a mediocre story, my biggest frustration with The Lost Crown is how long it takes to get to the good stuff.
PCGamesN - Will Nelson - 7 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is simultaneously overblown and undercooked in some areas, but it nails the fundamentals of combat, platforming, and exploration, making for a strong Metroidvania adventure and an exciting new entry in a legendary game series.
PSX Brasil - Luis Guilherme Machado Camargo - Portuguese - 95 / 100
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an excellent metroidvania and should certainly be remembered among the best in the genre.
PlayStation Universe - Garri Bagdasarov - 9 / 10
An excellent return to the Prince of Persia franchise. The Lost Crown takes the classic Metroidvania-style and builds on it with excellent puzzles, platforming and combat. The Lost Crown is easily the first must have title of the year and shouldn't be missed.
PowerUp! - Adam Mathew - 8 / 10
Whichever way you look at it, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is another fine entry in the modern-era Metroidvania renaissance. It absolutely deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as games like Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, and Metroid Dread.
Press Start - Steven Impson - 9 / 10
I thoroughly enjoyed The Lost Crown. It took me a little under 18 hours to finish the game with quite a bit of exploring off the beaten track along the way – and the next day all I wanted to do was pick the game back up get to more exploring. It's got compelling exploration, great feeling movement, engaging combat and satisfying puzzles. Genuine innovation in the genre and smartly integrated accessibility features make The Lost Crown a game I heartily recommend.
Prima Games - Matt Vatankhah - 9 / 10
A cinematic journey that takes a beloved series to new heights, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an adventure that fans of the genre shouldn't miss.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Katharine Castle - Unscored
Fearless but intensely friendly, Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown is a deep and challenging Metroid-like with some of the best platforming this side of Moon's Ori games.
SECTOR.sk - Matúš Štrba - Slovak - 9 / 10
It has everything you could want from a game. It will entertain you, it will challenge you, and you will spend a lot of time with it without even a hint of stereotype. The variety of content is truly huge on all fronts, so you won't be bored until the credits roll some 20 hours later. It's a shame that there are a few minor flaws, but they don't detract from the overall experience to the point where you'll be bothered by them.
Seasoned Gaming - Ainsley Bowden - 9 / 10
The Lost Crown is a gem. It is smart, beautiful, impeccably designed, and almost flawlessly executed.
Shacknews - Donovan Erskine - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown shows that this long-running franchise still has plenty of life left in it. The main narrative is sharp, with interesting twists and reveals about the universe at large. It’s only surpassed by the combat, which challenged me in all the right ways.
Spaziogames - Francesco Corica - Italian - 8.1 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown managed to swipe away every possible doubt after its first reveal, proving itself to be a metroidvania well developed, fun and with the right ideas.
TechRaptor - Robert Scarpinito - 8 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a competent, action-packed metroidvania that mostly balances the rule of cool with exciting combat and responsive platforming. If you like over-the-top shonen anime, it’s worth checking out for the boss fights alone.
The Beta Network - Anthony Culinas - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown wears the Metroidvania belt with panache. The protagonist, Sargon can whip out a whole range of stylish assaults thanks to his handy teleportation maneuvers and flow through the difficult platforming hazards of Mount Qaf like an Olympic gymnast. It’s just a pity that the story isn’t anywhere near as strong. You can’t win them all, I suppose.
TheSixthAxis - Adrian Burrows - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is one of the finest metroidvanias I've ever played and a fantastic way to start 2024. Thrilling and kinetic platforming, thumping combat, and a vast game world that demands exploration, and makes it a joy to do. It's time to kick nostalgia firmly in the unmentionables; this is the best Prince of Persia ever.
TrueGaming - مصطفى عرجون - Arabic - 9 / 10
A content-rich experience, offering a captivating mix of gameplay mechanics that make it a unique experience, exceeding expectations with genius level design and a great level of challenge that make it a great start to the year 2024.
VG247 - Dom Peppiatt - 4 / 5
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a smart game that makes you feel even smarter. It’s a Metroidvania that’s learned from the best, but without sacrificing any element of its own personality – for better and for worse.
VGC - Jordan Middler - 4 / 5
Prince of Persia was long in need of a resurrection, and in The Lost Crown, it's found it. Excellent platforming, clever puzzles and a huge map make one of the best Metroidvania's in years, and kicks off 2024 in style.
VideoGamer - Tom Bardwell - 8 / 10
Through a blend of a Metroidvania structure and a dutiful nod to its side-scrolling past, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a lean and assured mechanical treat.
WayTooManyGames - Leonardo Faria - 9 / 10
I had high hopes for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but it still managed to surpass them. More than just a risky, experimental revival of a dormant franchise, it basically showcases that Prince of Persia works magnificently well as a metroidvania, almost in a "why haven't you done this before" kind of way.
Wccftech - Francesco De Meo - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown couldn't have brought back the series after its more than a decade-long hiatus in a better way. With an engaging story, well-crafted Metroidvania mechanics, and a touch of character-action games features in its combat system, Sargon's adventure will be remembered by fans for a long time, even with its minor issues.
WellPlayed - James Wood - 9.5 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an expertly executed series revival that displays the best of Ubisoft Montpellier's pedigree while pushing the action-platformer to new highs.
Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an excellent Metroidvania. It doesn't completely break the mold of the genre, but it is firing on all cylinders, and it's a delight from start to finish. The excellent gameplay is bolstered by the anime-inspired visuals to create a distinctive style. The somewhat lackluster plot lags behind, but even that is mostly fun, if unexceptional. If you're a fan of Metroidvania-style games, you're certain to have a ton of fun with Sargon's adventure in The Lost Crown.
XGN.nl - Theo Weber - Dutch - 8 / 10
Ubisoft has Prince of Persia returned with a completelt new look and feel. The world of this metroidvania is huge and there is a lot to do. That also means a lot of running, climbing and fighting, but not a lot of depth unfortunately. Also there are a few misses opportunities. Still, this is a game you surely have to play this year!
Xbox Achievements - Josh Wise - 70%
Fluid platforming and frenetic combat, with some lovely spectacle and a dull story.
XboxEra - Jesse Norris - 9.5 / 10
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is an instant classic. Full of reverie for the series it takes it to new heights with a damned near-perfect mix of action-platforming goodness. It’s the best type of Metroidvania. One that knows how to pace out the power ups and I hope this is the start of a series of similar titles for the franchise.
ZdobywcyGier.eu - Paweł Bortkiewicz - Polish - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is one of the best metroidvanias on the market. The Prince has returned in beautiful style, and I hope it reaches the tastes of other gamers so that we get more of it, not another almost 14-year hiatus.
Zoomg - Afshin Piroozi - Persian - 9 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is exactly what the franchise needed. The Lost Crown is a creative Metroidvania game with deep combat and satisfying platforming. The story also provides interesting moments with unexpected twists.
cublikefoot - Claire Ferrin - 8.5 / 10
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a solid metroidvania and easily one of the best I have played in years.
eXputer - Usama Mehmood - 3.5 / 5
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, has completely subverted my initial expectations, providing us with a great game to kickstart 2024 off.

It was decided that two from different Districts could win very rarely, but tributes from the same District could enter as a pair to win together, which didn’t occur until after Game 101. It worked so that when one’s cannon sounded, the other would have their tracker detonated.
Fourteen males and fourteen females, four of each age, would be chosen to head to reaping square to possibly be chosen.
Tesserae was still in usage, with that being used to decide 20 out of the 28 youths per District being sent to the reaping in Districts 3-13. The other eight would be chosen from amongst the richer.
Each youth would have their name in the bowl once, and the singular youth chosen would be allowed to say goodbye to family before being taken to the train.
In Districts 1 and 2, off camera talent sections would be held, and a top five would be chosen from them. The last victor of that District would then chose the tribute from amongst those five.
District 13 Country Choosing and Info
It was decided that for District 13, in which the actual District could only fight once every twenty five years due to assisting the takeover of the World Alliance, one country would be chosen. From that, seven males and seven females would be chosen via lottery for eligibility. The youths would then be taken to the reaping, where one would be chosen from the bowl.
France had been chosen to participate, and the large 11.7 million population waited anxiously to see which youth would be reaped, hoping it wasn’t someone from their town or city.
As the fourteen youths awaited their fate, they noticed the face of Selena Brax. Selena had been locked in a closet by a redhead European, who later killed Ennius. Selena was cleared of all involvement, and personally helped Panem retake the United Kingdom, as well as England, who had hidden underground.
District 13
Selena walked up to the bowl, reaching her hand inside. She chose a slip of paper, removing the white ribbon to read aloud the name.
“Marie Boucher” she called, as peacekeepers grabbed a young lady with long brown hair and a scowl across her face. Marie fought back, even biting a peacekeeper, but she was only fifteen, and not able to put up much of a fight.
Marie was dragged into the town hall, where she met with her parents and younger brother, Roy. Marie promised her family that she would return and “avenge her countryfolk” before she was grabbed and dragged off to the hovercraft.
Marie sat in the seat, stopping to flip of a peacekeeper. Ross Kinloch of Game 97 entered the room, offering her a sip of water. Marie drank the water, before complaining all about the Games.
Ross listened carefully, before showing Marie a video of the highlights from his Games. Upon seeing Jersey, Marie asked how old he was. Ross said that he had been twelve, but after the World Alliance revived a bunch of deceased tributes and abducted the ones from the District Games, Jersey was now twenty three with a son and a daughter on the way.
Ross also informed Marie that up to three tributes per Game could be revived, but if she didn’t quiet her rebellion down, when she died she would stay dead.
Ross pulled out a knife and began teaching Marie how to throw them. Marie had strong knowledge, admitting that when she found out she was eligible she had secretly trained. Ross seemed happy enough with Marie’s skills.
At the hoverport, Marie was surrounded by excited Capitol citizens. She made a sour face, but upon looking over at Ross, she taught some women how to braid their hair. She notably chose a single braid, tying it off with a red ribbon at the back of her head.
District 12
Selena arrived in District 12 on the second reaping day, with there being three days overall. She looked down at the population of District 12, the smallest at 439,612, but larger than several World Alliance countries such as Monaco or the Solomon Islands.
Selena reached into the bowl, selecting the name of eighteen year old Warren Jacobs. Peacekeepers saw a young girl collapse to the ground, and grabbed the boy that looked at her, before another older boy grabbed the peacekeepers arm, introducing himself as Warren and saying that the boy was his younger brother.
This moment caused many Capitolites to laugh. Warren shook Selena’s hand, his wry smile shown on the screen. Warren had olive skin, black curly hair, and gray eyes.
Warren said goodbye to his parents, younger brother Garry, and younger sister Christa. He seemed surprisingly brave and calm as he hugged his family, promising to return no matter what.
On the train, Warren met his mentor, Rue Mellark of Game 90. Rue offered Warren a sip of juice, and over these drinks taught him how to throw knives. Warren was a quick learner, and struck up a friendship with Rue.
At the train station, Warren cracked some more jokes, and became a Capitol favorite. Rue told Warren to search for allies, and he found the girl from 9 to be a decent ally.
District 11
Selena arrived in District 11, with Mayor Cantrell giving her a tour of the orchards. Selena ate an apple, before choosing the tribute. Seventeen year old Ross Berkeley made no noise when he was reaped, simply walking to the stage.
He could hear his four sisters and two brothers crying out to him, but bravely stood his ground. Ross had ebony skin, short dark hair, and brown eyes. He had a friendly look in his eyes.
Ross had a visit with his six younger siblings, telling them where he had hidden his savings. He was then taken to the train.
On the train, Ross met his mentor, Delphine Dubois of Game 92. Delphine smiled at him and gave Ross some water and a sandwich, before promising to care for his family if something happened to him.
Delphine taught Ross how to throw knives, and seemed genuinely impressed with how hard he worked. Ross said that he wanted to see his family again, and Delphine told him that if he worked hard, he would.
At the train station, Ross was a bit shy at first around the Capitolites, but soon grew happy to share about his life. He was well liked, and many saw him as sweet.
District 10
With the new addition of Mexico to the District, many from the original District 10 hoped for a Mexican to be reaped rather than one of them.
Selena pet some horses for a few moments, before choosing the tribute. Fourteen year old Brita Agresti cried when she was chosen. With her long dark hair and brown eyes, Brita was a part of one of several Italian majority areas of Mexico.
Brita sobbed as she shook Selena’s hand, and Selena smiled down at her in pity. Brita visited with her parents and younger sister Sarita. Tears rolled down her face, as she knew she likely wouldn’t survive.
Casco Astriana of Game 98 seemed genuinely annoyed to have a weaker tribute to mentor. He sighed, before teaching her how to throw knives.
At the train station, Brita earned the reputation of a crybaby by begging not to be placed into the Games. Casco carried her away, her chances at sponsorship likely ruined.
Part 2 with Districts 9 to 5 will be up later. Who are you rooting for so far.
