Formal (Prom) fit Circa 2018
Hi Everyone! Figured I'd post the photos of my co-ord I wore to my graduation Formal way back in 2018 Ft: My big sister in gothic lolita inspired style. My date ditched the night before so I took my plush octopus as a date instead ā¤ļø šŸ™
This may sound narcissistic of me but after being terribly bullied during my last year of highschool, I could tell that many of my bullies wanted to somehow deter me from attending senior Prom (as Americans call it) so instead I was determined to "outdress" everyone there.
If I could do something differently, it would be to do my own makeup and not go for an expensive "prom makeup artist" since I don't quite like how they did my face. Doesn't suit the lolita style tbh!
Some deets for anyone curious:
The tiara was from a local pagent winner way back in the 70s and I braided fake roses all around it. My mom helped me sew a hem on the black veil as it was made from expensive lace that would fray given the chance.
Jsk is "Pirate Woman" from AaTP Boots were Innocent World that have long since passed away And the blouse is a lucky thrift shop find!
All items aside from the blouse were heavily discounted closetchild finds! Compared to Formal dress prices, mine didn't make up half of what they sell for.
Feel free to ask any other questions too.

2024.05.14 05:08 dudestfup feeling insecure without braids

getting to the point where my braids are old and i know itā€™s probably time to take it out šŸ˜
ive had them in for 2 months (i wash them routinely so they are getting fuzzy fast)
i used to be so confident wearing my type 4 afro, but i donā€™t feel pretty nowadays when i do, and im really dreading taking out my braidsā€¦even though i probably should.
for the record, im traveling in latin america, and i was never insecure about my hair until i started traveling here. i see the girls that are desired have long, straight hair, or loose curls.
when i wear my natural hair out, i am met with even more stares (i already get the stares too for being black in mexico), and way too much attention. like people see my hair before they see me. my hair has to be the topic. itā€™s draining! or they make assumptions about me, like im this black power woke af type of girl.. just for wearing my hair out.
i was also seeing this guy in guatemala - when we first started talking, i had passion twists but when i took them out, i remember him telling me ā€œi like your hair better longā€ and that made me feel so terrible. we obviously arenā€™t seeing eachother anymore, but that made my insecurity stronger.
i think too, as im growing up and acclimating into corporate america, i feel a lot of shame wearing my hair natural. like i feel like id rather wear some raggedy braids or a synthetic wig over having my hair out.
its crazy because this once wasnā€™t at the forefront of my mind, i use to wear my hair freely and never cared. but it almost feels like my natural hair journey has gone backwardsā€¦
i started stretching my hair and doing braid outs, to loosen the curl
ive had thoughts of buying relaxer, getting a flat iron, getting a sew in, tape ins, anything. i do have braiding hair and could just put more braids in, but it feels so time consuming and i just wanna wear my hair free without it being so out there.

2024.05.13 11:03 Effective-Ice-2623 How are human hair weaves attached?

How are human hair weaves attached?
Human hair weaves are typically attached to natural hair in a few different ways, and the method used can vary based on personal preference, hair type, and the desired result. Here are some common methods for attaching human hair weaves:
https://preview.redd.it/mhh1ovbws50d1.jpg?width=564&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dfdf909eb805e7086f01d6760e50ef1c9e0f5f1
Sewing or Stitching:
This techniques involves braiding the natural hair into cornrows, and then sewing the weft of the hair weave onto the braids using a needle and thread. This is a popular and long-lasting method but should be done carefully to avoid damage to the natural hair.
Gluing:
Hair weaves can be attached using a specially formulated hair glue or adhesive. Small sections of the weft are glued close to the scalp, usually onto braids or a cap. This method is quicker than sewing but may not be as long-lasting, and removing the glue can be challenging.
Clipping or Taping:
Some hair weaves come with clips or tapes attached to the weft. These can be clipped or taped onto the natural hair. This method is convenient as it allows for easy removal and reattachment.
Bonding:
Bonding involves using a special hair bonding glue to add the weft to the natural hair. The glue is applied to the weft and then pressed onto the natural hair. It's essential to use a high-quality glue to avoid damage and to follow proper removal procedures.
Micro-Linking or Micro-Ring:
Small metal or silicone rings are used to attach the weft to small sections of natural hair. This method is popular because it doesn't involve heat or adhesives, reducing the risk of damage.
Fusion or Hot Fusion:
This method uses a hot tool to bond individual strands of the hair weave with small sections of natural hair. It provides a more natural look, but it needs to careful application to prevent damage to the natural hair and scalp.
It's crucial to note that while hair weaves can be a versatile and convenient way to change your hairstyle, improper attachment or maintenance can lead to damage and hair loss.

[CHAT] How to keep floss from tangling when doing kits
Hello fellow cross stitchers,
Two years ago, somewhere on the Internet, I found a way to organize threads that come in kits to make it easier to use and prevent them from tangling or fraying. It also saves time when you prepare a new kit for stitching because it doesn't involve winding floss on bobbins. And since it has proven itself extremely useful in multiplekits, I would love to share that idea with the community. It's simply braiding floss and tying the ends with sewing thread. When you need to take a tread, you separate/cut one single thread at the top and pull it from the braid. You can use a needle to help when separating. If you make a very tight braid, it might take longer to pull, because you might have to first hold the braid at the top when you start the pull, and do the whole pull in stages by moving the braid along the pulled thread so it doesn't break. Also, half way through a big kit you might need to rebraid it so it's not too loose. I also figured out that the same technique works not only with threads on planks/organizers, but with threads which come in bundles, like in Dimensions kits. The only difference with those would be you tie it at the top and bottom (tying shold be very strong and secure), rather than just the bottom.
Hope someone else will find it useful.
Happy stitching!

2024.05.09 21:29 Delicious_March9397 Hair Advice: Favorite long term hairstyles?

I'm leaning more towards braids but unsure of what specific braided styles last the longest. For context, I'm a basketball player and college student so I'm trying to find styles that are no fuss and can last at least 2 months at a time. I considered a sew in but dont want to damage my leave out given I am constantly sweating. Any advice would be appreciated!

2024.05.08 18:49 saygerb homemade gerbil toy suggestions

(edit why the heck is there a giant preview of the webpage for flour paste.....?)
i just posted this as a reply to someone elsewhere, but i thought other people might be interested too, so im putting it in its own post.
here are some ideas for making your own toys if you are interested.
starting with the quick and easy,
cut some squares of brown paper bag. put a seed or 2 in the middle. crumple it up into a ball. leave in their tank for them to find. do a lot of them, they will have fun rolling them around and chewing them and finding the seeds. you could also tie up the corners of the paper into a little "bag" and hand it from some jute or paper string.
take toilet paper tubes and snip four 1.5" cuts in towards the middle on each side. you will end up with a tube with 4 flaps on each side. fold those in to the middle, and you end up with a little present box. put some seeds in, then tie up with raffia or paper string for an adorable gift!
another super easy one: tie a little bouquet of hay with paper string around the middle, and bury it sort of sticking up out of the bedding so it looks like a tree. they will love tearing it down.
you can do SO MUCH with currogated cardboard (for structures, climbs, and mazes) or cereal box cardboard (for tubes and other things to chew up) and cooked wheat flour paste https://www.ultimatepapermache.com/cooked-flour-water-paste-recipe making the paste takes about 10 minutes. you need flour, water, a stove, a small saucepan, and something to stir with.
you could make little sculptures out of cardboard and paste for them to climb on and destroy. or stairs, ramps, props (little shovels, brooms, sailing ship wheels, a car....)
my gerbs are big into paper chains i make out of brown paper bags and wheat paste.
you can braid timothy hay (sold in bags at tractor supply co or pet or feed stores) into baskets or mats or toys. you can wrap it/sew it together with "paper string" (made of strips of brown paper rolled into a twist on your thigh or in your fingers), or use raffia. you could make them little straw dolls.
you can make hanging chew toys out of jute twine and cardboard with holes punched in, or tie paper crumples to it, or tie clean baked gerbil-safe twigs (i described below) to the jute to make a little mobile.
wooden toys:
use gerbil safe wood: aspen, ash, (white) birch, poplar, beech, (white oak ok), willow, apple, pear.
you can buy poplar, birch, white oak, ash, beech at many lumber stores. if you are in usa home depot and lowes have poplar boards for about $15. it's enough to make a hide or two, or a wheel stand and low platform.
unsafe: cherry, walnut, maple, red oak, cedar, black birch, pine, plywood/particle board (because of the glue)
if you know someone with woods you can ask to prune some branches. choose healthy trees (make sure they are one of the ones i listed above) make sure to only take healthy live branches, from trees away from roads and in areas that are not sprayed with pesticides. you will then have to bake or boil this wood to kill off any mites/bugs/fungus. (you can leave the bark on if you do this)
anyone else have homemade toys they like to make? feel free to share in the comments....

2024.05.05 21:19 Active_Analyst5075 What to do with my hair for prom?

Hi everyone, this is my first time being here and I just wanted to ask some questions about hair. Iā€™m in my senior year of high school and my prom is coming up. Itā€™s the first and only prom I am attending and I wanted to look really nice but I have no idea what to do with my hair. I live in a predominantly white/Asian community so thereā€™s not a lot of variation when it comes to hair. I usually just wear my natural curly hair down or sometimes I get box braids which I really like but I get called out/made fun of for having hair extensions
I wanted to try a couple of things: 1.) Straightening my hair - I like how natural it looks but my hair already has a lot of heat damage and I donā€™t want to add more heat to it. Also, my 3B/C hair is a nice length at my shoulders but I wanted something a bit longer for prom
2.) clip ins - Iā€™ve been told I have a good hair texture for clip ins and I was debating on getting them but Iā€™m not sure how they would help with the front portion of my hair because that is where it is the shortest and I rally want a layered curtain look
3.) Sew in - a sew in and seems like the best option but Iā€™ve never had one before and Iā€™m not sure my hair texture is curly/kinky enough for the sewing to last, I have 3B/C hair. I also want my hair to look as natural as possible so that I wouldnā€™t get called out or made fun of for having a wig because I know it would ruin my day. I would not care usually but I just wanna feel pretty without people asking me about my hair constantly. Also my family is against this style as well
I was just wondering what your experiences with these hairstyles is and if there was any other option, I could explore for my hair. I would love all advice and input. Thank you!

First garment! (Second, if you count the mockup!) Made with Ash L Gā€™s zero waste skirt tutorial
Hi sewing!
Itā€™s been a busy week off from work! Iā€™m a sewing novice, and before this week I had one whole drawstring bag under my belt, but this week Iā€™ve made a basket cover to put my fabrics in, a pincushion (that I redid three times before accepting its fate, at least for now, itā€™s in the last pic), and then these skirts! I used Ash L Gā€™s video on ā€˜the zero waste 18th century skirt that always fitsā€™ for this specific project, but prepared for it through numerous tutorials on sewing in general, in hopes of just getting an idea of what generally works well for people. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/6xHOnS4fK2c?si=fK3gGUvRk49DueFf This skirt is one that is adjustable through ties on both the front and back, and shallow slits in the sides at the top. So, you tie it in the front and back.
For the proper skirt, I used a textured linen (I do not know the fiber content), and for the waistband a braided synthetic band. Both come from local markets and stores.
I did not need that many measurements; just waist, multiplied for desired fullness, 3x in my case, widest part of bottom, and desired length of the skirt (a meter), which made getting the properly sized panels very easy.
The mock-up was made from a really old bedsheet. I would not be surprised if itā€™s been around for 15 years easily, I think my folks gave me a few old ones when I moved out to study, so it was all but transparent and the original seams were yearning for disintegration. That made it great to just experiment with, but also very different from the eventual linen, which was much more firm and could be creased by hand while Iā€™d be reaching for pins or my iron. I want to use the mock up for some experimentation with dying too, I think.
Still, it taught me many things! And by the time I was going to dive into the real deal, I felt a lot more confident. Ash L Gā€™s video was very concise on a lot of the issues I might run into, too. I also liked the tone of video a lot; it really emphasized how many ways there are to go about something, and made this all seem a lot less daunting I still ran into quite some things (my thread is way too light for that waistband, for example, so I may end up embroidering over that), but I am very excited about the end result all the same. I struggled with getting the pleats even and theyā€™re still not all the way there, but even though this skirt was intended to be part of a renfaire outfit, I am lounging in it as we speak. It sadly does not have pockets, as I figured without those this project would have enough things in it I was unfamiliar with that I would have my work cut out for me.
Especially the first, bedsheet, skirt has had me swearing out loud a few times, resulting in a concerned boyfriend peeking around the corner, but all the same I am greatly enjoying this hobby so far. I love long skirts, but can rarely find anything I like in retail, so the ability to make things exactly to my taste is great. Desired future projects include; pirate shirt that is technically part costume but which will absolutely worn year round, engageante sleeves, also for both renfaire and daily use, so I can live my best life, and a very cautious attempt at a corset belt, because I would love to slowly work my way up to something like a real corset. But all in due time! For now, I am very happy with my skirt!

2024.05.05 00:44 n110303 Can I teach myself to do a sew-in from YouTube?

Hello, Iā€™m posting here because when I went with my girlfriend to get her sew in done today there was some miscommunication with the stylist and now she will not be able to get it done before work on Monday. She already took out her braids and is very stressed about not having her hair done up when she is out in public. Is it at all possible to teach myself how to do them using the internet? I have zero previous experience doing hair so I know it is a long shot, but Iā€™m trying to come up with something I can do to help in any way.

Do my braids look good enough to offer as a service to my clients?
Iā€™m a hairstylist. I usually only offer sew-ins and wig install, but Iā€™m thinking about adding knotless braids to my service list. For years, Iā€™ve repeatedly told my clients I donā€™t do braid because I donā€™t like how long it takes. But, I want to give it a try this summer. I do have a ton of room for improvement.
I did these 2 years ago. I donā€™t have a picture of my roots because my parts go everywhere but straight when Iā€™m doing my own hair lmao.

2024.05.04 04:07 Responsible-Intern-1 first day on T- a longterm fight has come to an end, and a journey is to commence

before i get into my post, just so everyone is aware, this will be a detailed post- so the length may be very long. *tw: suicidal thoughts\*
as many fellow transguys experience, i have close to never felt important in my body. im afab, and i remember being 2 years old and having a breakdown every single time i was put into a dress; matter a fact, ive always had a deep disliking of wearing dresses. to be quite frank, they have always made me uncomfortable. stemming from this, ive always, also, have had a weird approach through femininity as a whole- i remember being 5 years old and at the YMCA kidzone, and how we went around sharing our favorite color- and as i pointed out my favorite color as being red, i was met with distasteful responses, and many individuals pointed out how red is a "boys color". from then on, i reflected on how nothing i had done was considered to be feminine to me- i can singlehandedly admit that i've never played with dolls, played dressup (not that doing such is meant for specific individuals), and doing such has always made me an outcast among my peers.
fast forward to middle school, and as you may expect, i was bullied. my mom does hair, and with being a first generation African, this meant that my hair always had to be done. i went almost 4 years showing up to school, with braids, crochets, sew ins- you name it i most likely have had it. i absolutely resented this. it was so embarrassing switching up a style and getting compliments from my close friends knowing that i adored short, masculine haircuts. in 7th grade, i finally came out to my parents as a lesbian, which is a moment i remember up to this day since it changed the entire course of my parent's outlook on me. i remember my dad being so excited for me and naming all of the female celebrities he knew that were lesbian, and claiming how i could be just as, or even more successful than they were. my mom- not so much, and i could tell that she was more worried about explaining my sexuality to her friends who would ask (even though it is absolutely none of their business). in 8th grade, i decided to do something different- this was the year i had my first girlfriend, and also the year i was valedictorian- and i knew that for graduation i wanted to make a statement. so, i wore a creme colored suit and got my first masculine haircut. funny enough, i remember so many girls complimenting me- one even being flirtatious, which made my girlfriend jealous lol. but during graduation, this was the first time my mom's friend pointed out my sexuality, and in turn, she was happier about me being valdictorian than being a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
fast forward to high school, freshman year was amazing. i had finally attended a school where everyone was so caught up in their own drama (and just being straight up racist) that no one really cared about how i looked. in fact, throughout high school i had gained much popularity due to both my intelligence and fashion taste. i identified as being non-binary and knowing that i had my first job at 14, people would interchangeably use both she/her pronouns and, he/his. i was so embarrassed, and my coworkers would laugh about this making me feel worse and confusing me even more about my gender identity. i have always been a huge fan of Chella Man, and remember watching double incision top surgery videos, along with transmasculine Youtubers 24/7.
moving onto sophmore year, this was when COVID-19 quarantine shut down school. i was in a few friendships, most were toxic and of course didn't last, but some were meaningful and shaped me in the individual i am today.
sophmore year allowed me to grow, but i began to receive toxic and harassing messages from people who i thought were my friends, which drew me away from being my authentic self. to top it off, i was extremely suicidal and just conflicted. no matter how high my gpa was, or how many college credits i earned, i couldn't get past not truly loving myself. this resulted in countless- there was so many i assume the number is between 9 and 14, attempts of suicide. and at the end of the day, it was because i felt like i couldn't live my truth or tell my biggest secret- that i am trans.
after an attempt which led to me being hospitalized, i stopped talking to everyone. i didn't talk to anyone from my school, and completely stopped texting my friends for around 9 whole months. shortly after the hospitalization, i was gifted a journal, and decided to make my first book, which was filled with poems and experiences of being myself and what i would say to my "past self".
since i was in a dual credit program and had to take summer classes at a local university, i couldn't get myself to speak up and answer questions in that class either. i remember that so vividly, since it was a Sociology class- i always asked myself "why can't i be social? oh yeah, no one in this program is like me". it was a program full of cliques, and i did not fit into a single one.
eventually, it was my junior year- my actual worse year of school, ever. junior year was so bad, i decided to graduate an entire year early due to the bullying and disrespect from both individuals and teachers in the dual credit program i was in. i left my friend group due to the toxicity and bad energy altogether. theres so much i could say, but id rather not.
this was also the year i came out to my parents as trans, and i doubt they took me seriously. my dad surprisingly, at first, showed no support and had assumed i was in psychosis, which broke my heart. my mom, on the other hand, admitted that there was nothing wrong with me and promised that she would do everything in her power to allow my dad to understand what i was saying, and the feelings ive felt.
ive definitely had many ups and downs with my parents, yet they have always supported both my major choice (Social Work) and, the choices i desire to make within my body. the first year after high school, i went to a catholic university (which was, no offense, but the worst decision i could've made. too expensive, little to no diversity etc.) i decided to transfer to a much cheaper community college- which is honestly a much better school! i went from the most expensive university in my state, to a much affordable community college in hopes of transferring to a cheaper university after i graduated community college- i wanted to do this after highschooler, but my parents refused to allow me to go down that route. look who's saving money now :3!
today, ive come so far from the negative past ive encountered. i just turned 19 last friday, and i graduate next week friday with my degree in Social Work/Sociology (an entire year early)! i plan on assisting individuals which face disadvantages both economically and systematically on the basis of their race, ethnicity, and sexuality.
today, is also the day of my first testosterone shot! im super excited and have administered the shot about an hour and a half ago! ive never been happier than how i feel right now.
i wrote this essay (lol) for two reasons- one, i want individual's which can relate to my story and situation to know that although you may have experienced a similar, identical, or familiar experience as i have being within the school system to know- you have so much hope and time ahead of you. do not perform a permanent action with temporary emotions- there is always a light at the end of a tunnel, and with the right support- whether this may be a non-profit therapy office, friends you may have, or the Trevor Project (i highly recommend!), you have hope! the second reason is to simply document how excited i am to start testosterone! it is fully covered by my insurance (im on disability) in a state that is pretty chill about trans people (if you are in a state which puts you at some sort of risk that may challenge you being trans, i apologize but hang in there!). nothing though, can top my work enviornment- i make pretty good money and work at a job WHICH HAS OTHER TRANS PEOPLE! There is a trans woman who is literally my work mom, and a fellow transguy!!
nevertheless, i finally feel alive- i feel as if i can live without fearing what i would do to myself in moments that i feel bad or down. everything seems as if it's fallen into place. i don't want to go on about how proud i am, but yeah!
thank you for reading such a long post, and i truly hope that whoever is reading this has a sense of euphoria and can relate to being proud to be on t!
(tl/dr: i started testosterone after hating everything about myself and being bullied.)

2024.05.03 08:57 belphie888 My hair is itching so bad, I need help.

Alright, so recently, I got a new sew in, my very first ever, and I really like it. I got a lace frontal, so my hair is fully braided under everything, and while I love my braider, I donā€™t think she oiled my scalp before applying anything, so now Iā€™m genuinely at a loss because patting it too hard hurts and constantly whipping out a rattail comb is embarrassing.

The Joy of Intermediate Knitting

As an intermediate knitter, you've likely become comfortable with the fundamentals of knitting, including knit and purl stitches, increasing and decreasing, and reading basic patterns. This newfound confidence opens the door to a vast array of projects that allow you to explore different techniques, textures, and constructions. Intermediate knitting is all about pushing your boundaries, trying new things, and honing your skills to create beautiful, intricate pieces that showcase your talent and creativity.

Exploring Stitch Patterns

One of the joys of intermediate knitting is the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of stitch patterns beyond the basic knit and purl. From cables and lace to bobbles and slipped stitches, there are countless stitch patterns to explore, each offering its own unique texture and visual appeal. Try your hand at a classic cable sweater, knit a delicate lace shawl, or add some texture to your projects with a simple seed stitch or ribbing. Experimenting with different stitch patterns is a great way to expand your knitting repertoire and create stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Beyond Accessories

While scarves and hats are classic beginner projects, intermediate knitters have the skills to tackle more ambitious endeavors, including garments and home decor items. Knitting a sweater may seem daunting at first, but with the right pattern and a little perseverance, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish. From cozy cardigans and stylish pullovers to elegant dresses and chic tops, there's a world of wearable knits waiting for you to explore. And don't forget about home decor ā€“ knit a cozy blanket for your sofa, a set of plush pillows for your bed, or even a whimsical tea cozy for your kitchen.

Colorwork and Fair Isle

Once you've mastered the art of knitting with a single color, it's time to dip your toes into the world of colorwork and Fair Isle knitting. Colorwork involves incorporating multiple colors of yarn into your knitting to create intricate patterns and designs. Fair Isle knitting, a traditional technique originating from the Fair Isle in Scotland, is characterized by its use of stranded colorwork, with two or more colors of yarn carried across the row. Whether you're knitting a cozy sweater with a bold geometric motif or a festive holiday stocking adorned with Nordic-inspired patterns, colorwork and Fair Isle knitting add depth and dimension to your projects and allow you to unleash your creativity in new and exciting ways.

Lace Knitting

For knitters who crave a touch of elegance and sophistication, lace knitting is the perfect technique to explore. Lace knitting involves creating delicate openwork patterns by strategically increasing and decreasing stitches. From intricate floral motifs to swirling geometric designs, lace knitting adds a romantic, ethereal quality to your projects. Knit a lightweight shawl to drape elegantly over your shoulders, a lacy scarf to accessorize your favorite outfit, or even a delicate lace blouse to wear on special occasions. With its timeless beauty and endless design possibilities, lace knitting is sure to captivate and inspire you.

Advanced Techniques

As an intermediate knitter, you may also want to challenge yourself with some more advanced techniques and constructions. From seamless top-down sweaters and intricate cables to complex lace patterns and three-dimensional motifs, there's always something new to learn and master. Explore the world of garment construction by knitting a sweater in the round with no seams to sew, or try your hand at steeking ā€“ cutting your knitting to create openings for sleeves or pockets. And if you're feeling really adventurous, why not experiment with unconventional materials or knitting techniques, such as entrelac, double knitting, or modular knitting? The possibilities are endless when it comes to advanced knitting techniques, so don't be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone and explore new creative avenues.
Here are five more knitting project ideas for intermediate knitters:

Color-Blocked Sweater

Combine your love of colorwork with the satisfaction of knitting a garment by creating a color-blocked sweater. Choose a simple sweater pattern and experiment with different color combinations to create bold blocks of color across the body and sleeves. Color-blocked sweaters are not only stylish but also allow you to showcase your creativity and knitting skills.

šŸ”—Effortless Braiding Pre-Stretched 8 Feed-In Braids

As a hairstylist, I've been using Outre X-Pression Pre-Stretched 3X, 42" braiding hair for various clients, and I'm impressed with the results. Made from Kanekalon fibers, the braids have proven to offer unparalleled versatility for effortlessly achieving a wide range of hairstyles. These high-quality braids are incredibly lightweight, allowing for easy installation and management.
The pre-stretched and pre-layered braids provide a unique experience, making them an attractive option for those looking for a more relaxed braiding process. I appreciate the attention to detail in this product, ensuring that my clients can rock their hairstyles with confidence. The flame-retardant property adds an extra layer of safety during the styling process.
However, I've noticed a bit of shedding, which could be a concern for some. The hot water setting might have some inconsistencies, causing potential issues in achieving the desired length and thickness. Additionally, the bundles could use some improvement in how they are packaged, ensuring that they are less likely to tangle up.

As a product tester, I tried out the Leeven Pre-Twisted Passion Twist Hair in an 8-pack, 8-inch Natural Black. It was fascinating to see how my hair transformed with this twist of synthetic fibers! The pre-twisted and pre-looped crochet twist hair felt incredibly soft and itch-free, making it a pleasure to wear even for long hours. The synthetic fibers were also lightweight and odor-free, which added to the comfort factor.
I particularly loved the versatility of these passion twist braids! They looked natural and blended seamlessly with my original hair, providing a stylish protective hairstyle. Despite being synthetic, the hair held its shine and bounce for long hours, and it was a breeze to maintain and wash.
However, one downside I discovered was that the crochet hook wasn't as durable as I expected. But overall, I was quite satisfied with the product's softness, lightness, and style. The Leeven Pre-Twisted Passion Twist Hair was an excellent addition to my daily routine, giving my hair a stylish boost and saving me time and money in the process.

What are feed-in braids?

Feed-in braids are a type of extension braids where the hair strands are added to the existing hair one by one, rather than being sewn or glued in. This method allows for a more natural appearance and reduces the risk of damage to the natural hair.

Why should I choose feed-in braids over other types of extensions?

Feed-in braids are a popular choice for those who want to achieve a more natural look with their hair extensions. They are less damaging to your natural hair due to the incremental braiding process, and they can last longer than other types of extensions, such as sew-in and glue-in.

https://preview.redd.it/dmohf7mmsqxc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2435b69180c03a3b891a85d45839892d4f05cf03

What materials are feed-in braids made from?

Feed-in braids are typically made from synthetic or human hair. Synthetic feed-in braids are more affordable but may be less durable and require more maintenance. Human hair feed-in braids are more expensive but can blend better with your natural hair and last longer.

What are some popular brands for feed-in braids?

Well-known brands for feed-in braids include Tara Extensions, Marley Hair, and Easilocks. It is essential to research the quality and safety of the products before purchasing from any brand.

How long do feed-in braids last?

The lifespan of feed-in braids varies depending on the type of hair used, the maintenance, and your hair type. Generally, synthetic feed-in braids can last between 4 to 6 weeks, while human hair feed-in braids can last up to 3 months with proper care.

What is the installation process for feed-in braids?

The installation process for feed-in braids typically involves braiding your natural hair with the extension hair strands. This process is usually done by a professional stylist to ensure the braids are evenly distributed and properly secured. It is not recommended to attempt the installation process yourself, as it may cause damage to your natural hair.

Are feed-in braids suitable for all hair types?

Feed-in braids can be a good option for various hair types, but it is essential to consider your hair's texture and density. Thicker or coarser hair may require more time and care during the installation process, while thinner or more delicate hair may need to use a gentle hand to avoid damage.

How can I maintain my feed-in braids?

To maintain your feed-in braids, ensure they are properly combed and styled daily. Avoid pulling or tugging at the braids, as it can cause them to become loose or damaged. It is also crucial to clean your scalp regularly and avoid using harsh chemicals, as they can weaken the braids and damage your natural hair.

Am I the only one who thinks this outfit is a dud?
North is my best girl, but this outfit...
Most of the time I replayed the scene where she and Marcus were in the abandoned building together because they are all cute, so most of the time I see her in this outfit. But sometimes I just replay the game completely and see her very first outfit, and see how much everything is wrong with this one.
Her face is GORGEOUS, like, everything, the shape and... whatever else the face consists of. And they hide her forehead behind bangs and hat, and make her face look wider with those hanging strands. It is a CRIME. Her hair was also ugly crumpled with cloth. I know it's hard to animate flowing hair, but that wasn't their only variation? They could have given her any other tied hairstyle except side braids and low ponytails. By the way, apparently she is able to change the length of her hair, so they were not even limited by this.
The clothes suck too. What are these cutouts? Why does this rag look like she sewed it on herself and in order to undress she will have to cut it?
What is this thing looking at your skirt? This is not part of the shirt.
Her boots are also too bright to match her glove and hat.
Just WHY should they do this? This kind of nonsense doesnā€™t come to mind spontaneously, so they just sat there thinking about it, and then decided that it looked great?

2024.04.28 23:57 stickersandyarn Luisa Madrigal Restyle!

Luisa Madrigal Restyle!
A few years ago I foolishly decided to sew custom clothes for my entire collection and sold/donated most of my dollsā€™ clothes. No, I donā€™t know what I was thinking. Especially for dolls like my Jakks-Pacific Luisa that have unique body types. Luckily, Iā€™m finally getting the hang of making patterns! I made this crop top and jeans today. There are some issues (her left sleeve tore at the armpit because it was too tight) but Iā€™m going to overlook them for now. Iā€™m just glad sheā€™s finally dressed! I was nervous to take Luisaā€™s hair out of the braided bun but after a wash with conditioner and some brushing, it looks so pretty! Especially in a low ponytail. I donā€™t know what I expected but I really like that she has a curly hair texture like Mirabel.

Delving into the intricate science behind hair extensions reveals a blend of technology, craftsmanship, and creativity. From the sourcing of materials to the meticulous installation techniques, every step contributes to the artistry of hair extension production.

Origins of Hair Extensions
Hair extensions date back thousands of years, with evidence of their use in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece, and Rome. However, the modern techniques and materials used in hair extensions have evolved significantly.
Materials
The two primary types of hair extensions are synthetic and natural (human) hair. Synthetic extensions are typically made from various synthetic fibers, while natural hair extensions are sourced from donors worldwide. The quality of natural hair extensions often depends on factors like texture, color, and length, which are meticulously selected to match the desired look.
Manufacturing Process
Synthetic Hair Extensions
Synthetic hair extensions are manufactured using advanced synthetic fibers such as polyester, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or polypropylene. These fibers are dyed to match various hair colors and textures. The manufacturing process involves extruding the synthetic fibers through heated molds to create strands with the desired texture and length. These strands are then bundled together to form extensions, which may undergo additional processing, such as heat treatment, to achieve specific styles or curls.
Natural Hair Extensions
Natural hair extensions are sourced from donors worldwide, with a focus on quality and ethical practices. The hair undergoes a rigorous selection process to ensure uniformity in texture, color, and length. Once sourced, the hair is carefully cleaned, sanitized, and sorted according to specific criteria. Depending on the desired style, the hair may be processed further, undergoing treatments such as coloring, perming, or straightening. You can get a lot of beautiful natural hair extensions online from various sites like eBay and TrueGether. There are so many options and hair extensions of all sizes and shapes available on the site. You can choose whichever you want.
Installation Techniques
Clip-In Extensions
Clip-in extensions are among the most popular and versatile options for temporary hair enhancement. These extensions feature small clips attached to the base of each weft, allowing them to be easily clipped onto the wearer's natural hair. Clip-in extensions are ideal for adding volume, length, or highlights without the commitment of permanent installation. The process of clipping in extensions is simple and can be done at home without professional assistance.

Tape-In Extensions
Tape-in extensions consist of thin wefts of hair that are pre-taped with a medical-grade adhesive. The extensions are then sandwiched between small sections of the natural hair, creating a seamless blend. Tape-in extensions offer a semi-permanent solution that can last several weeks with proper care. Installation typically involves a trained stylist who strategically places the extensions for optimal coverage and natural-looking results.
Fusion or Bonded Extensions
Fusion or bonded extensions involve attaching individual strands of hair to the natural hair using a keratin-based adhesive. The adhesive is heated to create a bond between the extension and the natural hair, resulting in a seamless integration. Fusion extensions offer a long-lasting solution with proper maintenance, allowing them to remain in place for several months. Installation requires skill and precision, as each strand must be placed strategically to ensure a natural flow and appearance.
Hair Extension Maintenance: Tips and Tricks for Long-Lasting Wear
Hair extensions can be a game-changer, offering instant length, volume, and versatility to your hairstyle. However, to keep your extensions looking their best and ensure they last as long as possible, proper maintenance is essential. In this blog post, we'll explore some valuable tips and tricks for maintaining your hair extensions for long-lasting wear.
Understanding Your Hair Extensions
Before diving into maintenance tips, it's essential to understand the type of extensions you have and their specific care requirements. Whether you have clip-in, tape-in, fusion, or sew-in extensions, each type may require slightly different care routines. Additionally, whether your extensions are made from synthetic or human hair will also impact how you care for them.

Washing Your Hair Extensions
Proper washing is crucial for keeping your hair extensions clean and free from product buildup. Here are some tips for washing your extensions:
Use a Mild Shampoo:
Opt for a sulfate-free and moisturizing shampoo to gently cleanse your extensions without stripping them of natural oils. Avoid shampoos with harsh chemicals that can damage the hair fibers.
Detangle Before Washing:
Before washing your extensions, carefully detangle them using a wide-tooth comb or a specialized extension brush. This will help to prevent the tangling and matting during the entire washing process.
Wash with Care:
Gently lather the shampoo into your extensions, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends while avoiding the roots. Wash properly with lukewarm water until the water runs clear.
Condition Regularly:
Apply a hydrating conditioner to the lengths and ends of your extensions, avoiding the roots to prevent weighing down the hair. Leave the conditioner on the hair for a couple of minutes before washing the hair thoroughly.
Drying Techniques
Proper drying techniques are essential for maintaining the quality and longevity of your extensions:
Air Dry Whenever Possible:
Whenever possible, allow your extensions to air dry naturally to minimize heat damage. Lay them flat on a towel or a drying rack, avoiding twisting or wringing them out.
Use a Heat Protectant:
If you need to use heat styling tools, such as blow dryers or straighteners, always apply a heat protectant spray to your extensions beforehand. This will help prevent heat damage and maintain the integrity of the hair fibers.
Avoid Excessive Heat:
Limit the use of heat styling tools on your extensions and opt for lower heat settings whenever possible. Excessive heat can cause dryness, frizz, and damage to the hair extensions.
Styling Tips
Styling your hair extensions properly can help prolong their lifespan and keep them looking beautiful:
Use Gentle Styling Products:
Choose styling products specifically formulated for use with hair extensions, such as lightweight mousses, serums, or hairsprays. Avoid products containing alcohol or harsh chemicals that can cause dryness or buildup.Avoid Tugging or Pulling:
Handle your extensions with care, avoiding excessive tugging or pulling when styling or brushing. Use a wide-tooth comb or a brush with soft tooth to gently detangle the hair, starting from the ends and working your way up.
https://preview.redd.it/d8y2dlif98xc1.jpg?width=4067&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b1dbf69d1f8a9ac7495481327bd382448d50290
Experiment with Hairstyles:
Get creative with your hairstyles to minimize stress on your extensions. Opt for loose braids, buns, or ponytails to prevent tension and reduce the risk of breakage or damage.
Nighttime Care
Taking care of your hair extensions at night is essential for preventing tangling and maintaining their appearance:
Brush Before Bed:
Before going to bed, gently brush your extensions to remove any tangles or knots. Use a soft-bristled brush or a wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair, starting from the ends and working your way up.
Secure Extensions:
If you have clip-in or removable extensions, remove them before sleeping to prevent tangling or matting. For permanent extensions, such as tape-ins or fusion, secure them in a loose braid or ponytail to minimize movement during sleep.
Invest in a Silk Pillowcase:
Sleeping on a silk pillowcase can help reduce friction and minimize tangles, keeping your extensions looking smooth and silky.
Regular Maintenance Checks
Lastly, schedule regular maintenance checks with your hairstylist to ensure your extensions are in good condition:
Trim Regularly:
Trimming your extensions every 6-8 weeks can help prevent split ends and maintain a healthy appearance. Your stylist can also check for any signs of damage or slippage and make any necessary adjustments.Address Any Issues Promptly:
If you notice any tangling, matting, or shedding with your extensions, address the issue promptly to prevent further damage. Please consult with your hairstylist for guidance on how to resolve any problems and keep your extensions looking their best.

Conclusion
Proper maintenance is critical to ensuring your hair extensions look beautiful and last as long as possible. By following these tips and tricks, you can keep your extensions in optimal condition and enjoy long-lasting wear. Remember to treat your extensions with care, use gentle products, and schedule regular maintenance checks to keep them looking their best. 2024.04.28 15:03 HadesCore Just finished my first whip

Just finished my first whip
It's based off the Adam Winchrich & Nick Schrader "Bare Bones" bullwhip design but I implemented a lot of my own variations and it cost me nothing to build since I already had all of these materials on-hand from past projects making custom load-rated lifting straps and slings to move heavy machinery around in my workshop.
Even though there are cosmetic imperfections and some twist in the braid, the end result turned out pretty unique and performs very effectively so I'm quite proud of it.
These are the additions and changes I made: Its 7ft long with a knurled brass pommel that used to be the gas flow knob on a old broken blowtorch, I had to cut it off and polish it but I think it looks great. There is a bit of binding before the pommel because I don't have enough skill to make a seamless braided transition yet but it is extremely solid.
For the handle core, I used a 12" long 3/8" vintage USA made, Millers Falls Co "star drill" that came from a time before power-tools existed, its essentially a type of cold chisel designed for drilling holes into masonry by hand with a hammer. I don't know exactly what type of steel it was but given its intended purpose I knew it was an extremely hardened carbon steel of high quality. Even though I had other steel rods suitable for the task, I used this tool because it had a unique shape that was very convenient in making a whip handle. I added a picture as an example of what it looked like.
  • Firstly, it wasn't round, but instead hexagonal down its length, which made aligning the paracord strands much easier as well as providing a tighter grip for binding.
  • The second advantage was a tapered section a few inches before the star shaped flared out end, this gave me an extremely secure way to attach the ball bearing filled sinker core, purely through binding. Not a single piece of electric tape was used in the entirety of this whips construction.
Its shot loaded with 5/16" ball bearings and instead of artificial sinew I used a high strength 3-ply polyester based thread throughout. The fall is 22.5" long.
Finally, the cracker took quit a bit of trail and error till I came up with something that really cracks effortlessly, I tried nylon, polyester, cotton, teflon with endless combinations of materials, lengths and thicknesses till I finally arrived at the winner, and it happened to be 9" with a 1.5" tassle made from 5x strands of Gutermann Extra Strong M782 polyester sewing thread and 1x strand of Shimano 4ply Polyethylene braided fishing line. This cracks the loudest, doesn't snag, and so far has shown no signs of wear. I almost sacrificed a length of dyneema soft-winch rope to salvage some threads but thankfully I wont be needing to.
I also really wanted some of the benefits of waxing even though this build doesn't call for it and I dont have parrafin wax anyway so instead I spent some time with a hair dryer thoroughly kneading in some lanolin grease that I usually use on all my wood, leather and metal items that need protection. After some time, the end result was perfect, the whip flows better, is waterproof and has the nice smell of lanolin as a bonus.
I couldn't be happier with how this turned out for my first go at making a whip and already have plenty of new ideas that I'm excited to try out in the future.

2024.04.27 15:23 4evaDisappointed What type of sew-in/protective style should I get?

Hello,
Iā€™ve been natural since 2016 however I still havenā€™t been able to grow my hair past shoulder length. My hair is fuller but thatā€™s about it. The one time it was close, I left my hair in a sew-in for months. It was literally me moisturizing, washing, and going. This is what I know so far: I have 4c hair, itā€™s low-porosity, and no matter how much moisture I put in it my hair ends up flaking anyway.
Iā€™m trying to find the best protective style. Iā€™m tired of braids, and it feels like my hair falls out more with them once itā€™s time to change them. Iā€™m now doing crochet braids, but due to my nape being short they donā€™t last as long.
Iā€™m thinking about going back to sew-ins. I want shoulder length, curtain bangs with the ability to change my part. However Iā€™m overwhelmed by the choices and not sure what website to go to or what bundles I need for this. Itā€™s been a while. Does anyone have any recommendations or tips? Thank you!
