2024.05.16 07:07 RealityBytes2023 Co-founded a company and am treated worse than the janitor there - How to cope?

So glad I found this group. I have a serious problem and am at wits end.
I co-founded a company with my dad in the early 2000s after the dot-com meltdown. I thought since he appeared to successfully run multiple companies in the past, I Woukd gave a chance to see him in action.
Instead he decided to give me an honorary title which had nothing to do with my experience nor was one that the company needed or respected. Being the good son, I sucked it up as he continued to hire increasingly lower quality candidates and making bad business decision after another. The worst part was he paid me room and board and expected me to be in essence the company lackey doing whatever anyone else asked because he thought he could get away with it, but kind of made it sound like I worked for him leaving everyone confused.
I eventually managed to escape for a bit and rebuild my career even though my parents tried to sabotage me at every opportunity. During this time, they stressed me out so much I ended up losing those jobs because they refused to accept my boundaries and emotionally blackmailed me into taking their damaging advice.
Fast forward to 2017 or so. I was starting to establish myself as a corporate advisor and had a opportunity to teach at a highly respectable school, but once again their abuse was too much, forcing me to sell cell phones at Costco whike my dad continued to run the company into the ground. It was by far one if the worst jobs I ever had, but my mom stongarned my dad into hiring me, but at a salary where I made close to nothing, but at least I would finally be paid.
While this was going on, my dad barely made any money whe he stupidly paid everyone else market rate out of fear they would quit (which most of them did by 2021 during the "Great Resignation").
I managed to get a contract which gave me a brief break from my family at the end of 2021, but once again as soon as it ended they demanded I work with them despite having an offer to be a Director Marketing with a fast track to CMO in less than a year at a Tier - 4 company that I couldn't accept once again to emotional blackmail.
Fadt forward to this year. My dad officially made me officially work for a neurotic passive aggressive micro-manager that he hired instead of him despite knowing that I have the background and knowledge to get them out of their countless messes he made for himself. However, he's too afraid to let them go for some reason which I will never understand and refuses to fine me the time I need to get another job or to let me train on something else so I can.
I did manage to save some money along the way, but since most apartments around here ( SF Bay Area) expect you to make 3x the rent price to get an apartment. But yet again since he is paying me barely enough to pay my bills (when he can afford to pay me), I can't move out of their house very easily.
Couch surfing with friends isn't a viable option either and despite grinding as hard as I can to get another job that will give me the money to move out, I just can't seem to land one despite countless referrals, endorsements and introductions to the hiring teams as well as personally knowing the hiring managers themselves.
How do I move forward? I'm going to be 53 on May 20 and I feel like I truly lost 20+ years of my life due to this nonsense and don't know what to do.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Please help!

What are these?
Hi,
My community center just finished an expansion and were trying to sell some of the leftover construction material. However, I don't know what the names of some of the material and the construction manager is a hard to reach person.
Anyone know what these are called? My plan is to post them on Facebook Marketplace/Craigslist/Offer Up after researching what they go for used.
Thanks!

2024.05.16 00:12 CallMeEggDaddy Please say hello to Tank

Please say hello to Tank
Lord Tanqueray aka Tank aka Tankie, is my new rescue/foster. And an excellent example of why you shouldn’t be scrolling Craigslist while 6 Gin and Tonics deep at 1am on a Friday. And might I add, on vacation with your own rabbit.
As stated above, a breeder listed him for free in the Farm & Garden section as a proven breeder. Also, they needed up gone ASAP.
So after a series of texts to friends announcing I would never send an email I sent an email. Then roughly 14 hours later I met up with a friendly person, cardboard carrier I had hastily purchased in hand (remember, we’re on vacation). He was quickly put in my carrier for me, no questions asked about what I was going to do with him. I was given a copy of his papers for his pedigree and some of his food. I asked them why they were giving such a beautiful show bunny away. The answer was he produces too many black bunnies and they don’t want that color. I thanked them, loaded him into the car, and left with strong feelings. I went back and set him up in a spare x-pen i scrounged up until we went home.
Needless to say, he was named after what caused the impulsive decision to get him to safety. And as of next week he’s going to be neutered, vaccinated, and chipped before he finds his people.
At 19 months old Tank weighs in at a healthy and whopping 1 pounds 12 ounces. He has been described as “the weight of a sneeze”, “fake”, and “as big as my rabbit’s left hamhock”. He’s skittish, but that’s because he’s not used to life and being a bunny in the big wide world of an apartment.
Tank’s temporary set up until his adoption is in a 4x2 cage on a table in the living room for ease of handling. But also so he can get used to the sounds of a house by binging a steady diet of Star Wars and Bridgerton while I’m at work. Caging is not what I would normally do but Clara, my 7 pound free roam rabbit, rules the roost. And she would eat him the moment he pissed her off, which would be immediately. Quite frankly the space is palatial for someone called “smaller than most guinea pigs”.
Tank does not like good food. Hay? Yes. However he is learning to tolerate veggies and good pellets. But he makes it clear it’s fine and he would prefer whatever he was being given on the farm. I tried 3 different types of pellet before he likes one.
Tank does not like me. The minute I’m out of sight I caught him doing a head toss and a micro binky. I have announced to him and the other pets that he will in fact eventually like me.
Speaking of my own rabbit, Clara has recently started sitting on my entryway table so she can stare at Tank. They’re roughly 2-3 feet apart. She often looks at him like he’s a weird little creep. He is bunny shaped, yet he is also not bunny shaped.
In return Tank is smitten by this new, giant woman. If he thinks Clara is nearby he will longingly search for her. If it’s just me he is visibly disappointed. He yearns to be the Gomez to her Morticia. He angrily tears at his puppy pads and thrashes his blankets when he can’t.
Neutering can’t come soon enough. And hopefully his new home will have a big woman waiting for him.

2024.05.15 23:20 StickyHandJoe [5e] First Time DM - Official DnD Rulebooks/DnD Beyond

Hello!
I'm fairly new to DnD, i've really only been a part of 2 sessions and they both have not lasted very long (I haven't even played for over a year yet). I'm excited to DM a campaign and I've been watching a lot of cool YT videos to sort of inspire me and help me feel a little more prepared, but i'm still feeling a little bit lost in terms of the resources and stuff available to me so I thought i'd just put a post out there are see what people suggest.
All my DnD experiences thus far have been over discord with a group of friends, and it's really fun but I often feel like a lot of the lore and monsters and stuff are locked behind paywalls. I'm excited to learn more about the universe and lore, and explore different things that I can use in my campaign, but I don't know if I'm ready quite yet to drop $170 on the Core Rulebook Giftset and then $150 more on additional resources like Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Mord: Monsters of the Multiverse, and Xanathar's Guide to Everything. I have the subscription to DnD Beyond so I COULD buy digital to save a little bit but I really prefer physical copies because they're something that I can have and lend to my players/friends and flip through when im bored; also they also allow me to slowly transition to more in-person games, so I'm kind of torn.
Does anyone know if there are bundles/ways of getting physical copies that don't break the bank? Should I just be hunting on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace to find used copies? Do I even NEED the books or should I just make do with what i've got access to?

2024.05.15 22:02 notburneddown would someone with experience in data recovery be able to work at an MSP or IT Repair easily?

I found this CraigsList job ad for a data recovery job and they train new hires. The thing is I know Linux, Windows and networking very well, but not macOS. I use my iPhone and I'm good at it but until recently I didn't touch macOS. I have a CCNA and an A+ certification and I'm working on an Apple tech support cert (called Apple Certified Support Professional).
There are a lot of IT support and MSP jobs that require you to be an expert at Windows and macOS and very few jobs of any kind that train you. Should I just get my Apple cert and then another more advanced Apple cert and then maybe review A+ quickly then look for a part-time job doing IT support or go for a job at an MSP hoping to find one that provides training or is getting this job first probably better:
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/tch/d/los-angeles-computer-repair-assistant/7745823858.html
I personally want to get experience I'm just wondering if that computer repair job would familiarize me with everything I need to work at an MSP that requires knowledge of Windows, Apple, and networking. I am already familiar with Windows because I've used it my whole life and Linux as well and I know networking but not macOS so much so this is why I'm asking.

2024.05.15 21:35 StonedMackin The Internet didn't ruin humanity, humans ruined the Internet

I commonly see this sentiment that the Internet ruined humanity but I would like to say it's actually humanity that's ruined the Internet. We created the Internet and we've ruined the Internet.
You can't go anywhere on the Internet without coming across some human being shitty. You go on a dating app? Shitty people with fake account after fake account attempting to scam you out of money, or rob you or whatever it is.
You can't go on an online game without some shitty person attempting to ruin everyone else's fun by hacking or actively ruining their gameplay.
You can't post things to sell on marketplaces without being bombarded with bot messages attempting to scam you.
You can't go on social medias/forums without seeing people attempt to manipulate your emotions for their own emotional support/boost (trolling, etc) or just being the utmost typical person/walking trope imaginable.
Everywhere you go on the Internet there's someone attempting to cause you financial, emotional, sometimes physical, etc harm. Yeah there seems to be more good people than not but the others really ruin things a lot of the part even with their minimal numbers.
You can't even make a simple post in a Facebook community without some scam account attempting to get information from you with questions (a lot of them being security style questions) or to get you to tap a link to either put something on your device, log you, etc.
In almost every comment section you see either one of these, a combination of these or all of these; racism, sexism, trolling, anti natalism and just extreme hatred in general, disrespect, being rude/outright, assumptions upon assumptions, the inability to accept people's religious (or lack of) beliefs, personal opinions and other ways of life, others repeating each other's top comments in an attempt to get Internet attention, etc. There's a lot of good comments too don't get me wrong but you're almost never able to go to one comment section without seeing it to some extent.
Then you have the constant political back and forths. The amount of accessible NSFW content to children (and honestly some of it shouldn't be accessible to anyone, adults included). The amount of fucked up/backwards sentiments just freely flowing around. The predatory data farming and information mining. The fact SEO has pretty much been ruined by companies and individuals skewing the search results for their own benefit, the fact AI chats, etc have incorporated into it making so many results just redundant/fake, that companies prioritize money over accuracy/use ability, the fact marketing has been allowed to get to where it's gotten (every single thing on the Internet having marketing connected to it), the people that are out to scam, finesse and outright rob you (eBay, marketplaces, fake Amazon stores, Craigslist, etc).
Unfortunately we as humans have been like this before the internet, the Internet just gave these people a networking platform. Yeah maybe the Internet did influence a lot of people to do these things, or opened more doors to do these things or taught people how to do these things but these things are human society.
The Internet didn't destroy humanity, humanity destroyed the internet, which was supposed to be (and continues to be) a useful tool for countless of things. Human greed, human negativity, human desperation, human selfishness, human ignorance, human hatred, etc all made these things (and the countless more examples I could have given) possible.

2024.05.15 20:37 asillynert Why saying, just move is incredibly stupid.

Saw a few post around reddit and had to rant a little. Moving IS NOT a solution to low wage and rising cost of living. People go "oh just move" but there is multiple issues at play.
First lower cost of living has equally low wages with many things like healthcare and vehicles not being any cheaper. And often works out to be that money goes less far.
The other reality is were not robots support groups friends and family matter for maintaining mental health. Just picking up and moving into complete isolation, especially with work being what it is today. Having little energy left little funds left its very likely what you lose will not be replaced or take years even decades to rebuild. Leaving you in complete isolation.
Beyond mental health there is tangible benefits even not doing stuff for you but "mutual". Roommates help substantially cut cost. And while craigslist is "fun" its also a good way to be stuck in a lease with violent person that steals stuff and doesn't pay. If you have kids there is back and forth where you with other siblings or friends take time watching each other kids. As well as helping move etc.
Then there is cost of move people joke bus tickets x and crap. But reality is you have stuff even if you can compact it minimalize. Replacing bed is not cheap computer clothes it adds up. Even if you go small you either need to spend 1-2k replacing shit or 1-2k on moving vehicle for the cross country move.
Even on typical move where you "just throw out" dingy garbage can. Or a few other things or dishes break in move etc. Realistically just buying stuff for new apartment will run a few hundred bucks in odds and ends.
So in reality you first need 3-5k to afford move, which your broke and not making enough to live let alone save.
All this to move to area that sure rents cheap. BUT is there any jobs for you especially if you have any skills. I remember growing up in rural town. Kids would apply year round to 4-5 businesses in town as it was only option. And lucky few got jobs.
Most moved out due to lack of available work AT ALL. One of friends that stayed he works for only car shop in town as mechanic. He can not quit if place goes under he is stuck with a house. With only option flipping burgers or walmart.
Like the options are not great in these towns for work and even if you do get work. Its not great pay. So your stuck in town with no job opportunity no entertainment and substandard infrastructure. If you get a job your 100% stuck. If you quit you will have to move or work min wage.
Like it has to be stupidest suggestion. Especially with "rural" catching up and being among fast growing rents with stagnant wages. Everyone from private equity to people who can work from home are chasing these cheap areas. And its skyrocketing prices but with wages remaining stagnant for area. In my state its like sure rents 30% more in big citys but pay is also 50% higher.

2024.05.15 15:49 bub__bubs Possible rental scam?

Hi! I found a home for rent that seems (almost) too good to be true. The landlord has the home listed on Craigslist, Apartments.com, redfin.com, apartmentguide.com. All of the contact information provided matches up to all of the listings. I emailed and texted and the landlord has communicated through both, citing both the text I sent in the email showing that it's the same person. I expressed my hesitancy about scams and they verified their name in the first email they sent, and then sent their deed (showing that they are the homeowner) in the second email they sent. I googled the owner and they have a business in the city of the rental.
What makes me hesitant is the number they are texting from is from a different city/state and the email address they are writing from seems suspect (not a first/last name combo - it's tblaize2003, which has nothing to do with the owner's first/last name or business).
The rental application looks homemade (and it's just a PDF), but asks basic information requesting photo of ID and paystubs. The listing cites local restaurants nearby. The first email she sent also stated lease terms, pet deposits, and to not approach house as to respect current tenants.
What do y'all think? I emailed back requesting a video call/tour or to even arrange to see it in person.

The Best Home Office Set Up - 16 Essentials
Since a ton of people have been questioning me about the best home office setup, I thought it’d be fair to share what mine was. This is what’s worked for me throughout starting my business and it can also work for you. As both an Engineer and Business Owner, I work long hours and I attribute being able to do so due to some of these high quality products.
These are what I find to be the best products regarding home office set up.

Apple 2023 MacBook Pro Laptop M3 Pro Chip

A Macbook is GOAT’ed. Sleek hardware, a very reputable brand, and a high quality product. MacBooks have lasted me on average 6+ years so although it can be a big initial investment, the ROI can be very positive.
Pros:
  • Sleek hardware
  • A basic MacBook will be very powerful
  • Will meet everyday needs for students or working professionals
  • Access to Apple customer support
  • High quality webcam
Cons:
  • Higher price point relative to other laptops
  • Battery life known to get worse over time
Check Price of MacBook Pro on Amazon

Apple USB-C to USB Adapter

Say what you want about Apple, yes, it is a great business move for them as a company to design components that you’ll need to purchase to adapt basic devices such as webcams, microphones, and monitors.
You’ll need to get a pair or two of these Apple USB-C to USB Adapters.
Pros:
  • Allows integration of many USB devices onto MacBook platform
Cons:
  • Unnecessary purchase if you are primarily a Windows / Android type user
  • Buying extra dongles or adapters will add more as an expense over a long period of time

LG 32GN650-B Ultragear Gaming Monitor 32”

I like to use the LG 32GN650B Ultragear as my primary monitor, set up horizontally. Great resolution, refresh rate, and able to be used for gaming purposes, but I like to use it as my everyday monitor.
Pros:
  • Great refresh rate
  • High resolution
  • Good size to use for day to day computer operations
Cons:
  • Does not rotate vertically
Check Price of LG 32″ Ultragear on Amazon

SAMSUNG 28” Odyssey G70B Series 4K UHD Gaming Monitor

I just recently added a secondary monitor in a vertical configuration and it is a game changer. Highly recommend to add a second monitor in a vertical configuration if you are able to do so. This makes daily computer usage 10X more efficient. I love to have multiple tabs and windows up when I browse the computer. It’s nice to have a monitor dedicated to one thing such as reading news or emails and using my main monitor for work.
Combine the power of multiple monitors with meetings and it’s a complete game changer. Having one screen dedicated for screen sharing and another for documents or notes makes having Zoom or Teams Meetings at work much easier.
Extremely happy with my purchase of the Samsung 28″ Odyssey G70B – great refresh rate and resolution, looks absolutely beautiful.
Pros:
  • Rotates 90, 180, 270 degrees
  • Pair-able to Macbook as a second external display
  • Great refresh rate and resolution
Cons:
  • Higher price point vs a lower quality monitor
  • Refresh rate and resolution will be over the top if looking for something basic
Check Price of Samsung 28″ G70B on Amazon

Logitech Brio 4K Webcam, Ultra 4K HD Video Calling

VIVO Height Adjustable Standing Desk

I bought into the standing desk craze a few years back, but I personally don’t utilize the standing option very often. Standing desks are a great option if you do not allocate much time towards physical exercise. I personally exercise quite often and find that if I use the standing desk too often, I get tired and can’t focus as much. Results will vary.
The VIVO standing desk is a great and budget friendly option if you are looking for a standing desk, but don’t want to break the bank. The advantage of the VIVO standing desk is that it allows for a hand rotating mechanism to adjust the height of the desk, instead of relying on linear actuators.
What I really enjoy about standing desks is the ability to set the desk at the perfect height relative to where my arm positioning will be. This also allows me to work long hours without getting much pain. If you’re dealing with any type of pain at all regarding working, it’s very likely your office set up.
Pros:
  • Inexpensive and budget friendly way to get a standing desk
  • Hand rotating mechanism – eliminates the need for power supply and less cords
  • Allows for a desk with proper arm positioning for ergonomics
Cons:
  • Cheaper and lower quality material
  • Not as nice as desks such as Uplift
  • Will be tiring to rotate the hand crank to adjust the desk up and down
  • Custom height set up not available

Herman Miller Aeron Chair Fully Adjustable

The Herman Miller Aaron Chair is one of the OG GOAT’s when it comes to ergonomic chairs. I love my fully adjustable Herman Miller – I’m able to sit for long hours and deal with zero back pain. • Multiple degrees of freedom to allow for varying positions
  • Lumbar support
  • Flexible arm heights
  • High quality mesh design to keep chair cool
  • Able to sit 8+ hrs in a day without pain
  • Lower cost options available through used sellers such as Craigslist and OfferUp
Cons:
  • Expensive investment as this is a higher quality office chair
  • Will get dusty and dust will accumulate through the meshes
  • Need to keep chair clean
  • No head support (not a big deal to me)

Samsonite Classic Leather Backpack

Sure Samsonite isn’t Gucci, but they do provide decent quality leather backpacks at an affordable cost. I was able to get this at a lower cost during the beginning of the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic as the demand for traveling plummeted. This backpack has held up in decent shape through regular usage such as bringing materials from home to work or to the coffee shop.
Work great for short business trips as there is plenty of room to pack clothes, laptop, toiletries, and other miscellaneous items. The Samson Leather Backpack is a quality item and will last for a long period of time. No issues so far with my backpack.
Pros:
  • High quality leather backpack suited for business
  • Fits decent amount of items – clothes, toiletries, laptops, notebooks, stationary
  • Durable and will last
  • Good combination of minimalist and functional
Cons:
  • The classic leather backpack is somewhat large
  • Not a very “slim” design
  • Will feel large if you plan on using this backpack out walking all day

Canon PIXMA TR4720 Printer

What good is having the best home office setup without a printer? Even though the world is becoming more digital, you will still need to rely on printing documents out and sending them from time to time. The Canon PIXMA TR4720 is a basic printer that meets the need for printing out some items for work or business.
Pros:
  • Cheap and budget friendly printer
  • Allows for document scanning
Cons:
  • Can have issues and difficulty setting up and pairing wirelessly with laptop or internet
  • Needing to download software on your laptop or iPhone
  • Only compatible with 2G broadband frequency internet
  • Will sometimes not show up when using it to computer
Overall, a low quality printer – invest in a higher quality printer if able to and you can afford it. This thing has given me headaches from time to time, and has not been able to print things when I really needed something to be printed and ended up having to go to the local printing shop to print and send something out.

Philipps 3 Outlet Surge Protector Extension Cube

Let’s not forget, with a beauty best home office setup, you will have a ton of cords that you will need to be plugging into. A Phillips Extension cube is a really great option for that. I chose to get the cubed option to avoid the extra cords and what not that an extension cord provides. Keeps things relatively clean and allows the plug in of multiple devices such as your laptop, monitor, chargers, printers, and everything else I covered regarding the best home office setup.
Pros:
  • Simple yet elegant way to add extension cord without extra wires hanging around
  • The cube design is an efficient use of space
  • Visually appealing to look at a cube vs. extension cord
  • Very inexpensive
Cons:
  • Limited number of cords available
  • Will not be enough for power users
  • Can be difficult to fit in with other “larger” types of plugs in the same outlet
Check Price of Philipps 3 Outlet Surge Protector on Amazon

Closing Thoughts on the Best Home Office Setup

I work long hours and it’s imperative to have high quality office products that make the best home office setup so that I can perform and deliver optimally. I know some of the items can be expensive, but it definitely is an investment towards long term business output. There are multiple options available for the devices I show, but this is the set up that I currently use to date.
If you can’t afford higher quality products yet, don’t worry, just keep grinding and build skillsets such that you can increase your salary and afford higher quality goods. I’ve come a long way when it comes to being able to afford higher quality goods and I attribute it to the skillsets that I have built over the years.

2024.05.15 03:26 Neither_Adeptness_65 TIFU by, maybe, misgendering a stranger

So, I (54 m) am at my cousin's house and she (60 f) is selling a bookshelf on Craigslist. They make the time, my cousin says "they're here" and I go out to help. Two people walk up and say "hi" one person is female presenting (Jen) and one person has gender non-conforming vibes (Chris), both are friendly and begin to look over the bookshelf. They decide to take it and Chris awkwardly starts removing the shelves from the bookcase. I cringed and thought "holy crap, this person was never taught how to move stuff or take shelves out of a bookcase" My 'I'm a dad and must fix everything' part took over and I started calling Chris "he/him" pronouns; I don't know why, it happened.
Chris and Jen did not seem to mind me using those pronouns or at least did not flinch when I did, but that does not mean I was right. We got the bookshelf into the van, the couple bought some plants and pottery we had laying around from last weekends yard sale. We exchanged friendly goodbye's and I went inside with my cousin. My cousin looked at me and asked "Why did you use he/him pronouns with Chris? Did they say something that led you to that? Why the assumptions?" I reflected for a bit and admitted, "You're right, I assumed a hetero-normative relationship and holy crap, god, did I just hella fuck up?!"
Now I feel like shit and stupid because I do know better, I have a non-binary child and have been following trans and enby creators on youtube to learn more and catch my blind spots and bias, but watching Chris struggle with something, removing the shelves, that my father taught me as a kid just triggered me.
TL;DR I assumed someones gender and used he/him pronouns when I should have stayed in my lane and just stfu.

Used GPS Trackers For Sale - Pros vs Cons

When it comes to finding the best deals and saving some extra cash, we all look for options that fit our budget. Online shopping has become popular due to its potential for better deals. Similarly, in the realm of GPS tracking technology, you might come across live tracking solutions like the SpaceHawk GPS or Tracki Mini. However, if real-time tracking is beyond your budget, there are two options: searching for a used GPS tracker or investing in a highly-rated new one. In this article, we will discuss the pros and cons of buying a used GPS tracker.

Pros of Buying a Used GPS Tracker

  • Cost Savings. One of the main advantages of purchasing a used GPS vehicle tracker is the opportunity to save money. Used devices are often available at lower prices compared to new ones, allowing you to stay within your budget.
  • Access to Advanced Features. Buying a used GPS device gives you access to advanced features and functionalities that might be too expensive with a new device. That means you can get high-quality OBD GPS trackers or asset trackers without breaking the bank!
  • Wide Range of Options. The used GPS tracker market offers a variety of models and brands. From BrickHouse Security real time GPS trackers to LandAirSea GPS car trackers, there are a ton of different choices online. Therefore, eBay or Craigslists are a great choice for finding a GPS tracker for tracking vehicles.

Cons of Buying a Used GPS Tracker

  • Limited Warranty. Used GPS trackers typically come with limited or no warranty coverage. In case of any issues with the personal GPS tracker, you may be responsible for repair or replacement costs. In fact, one of the most common issues with a vehicle GPS tracker is water damage. Why does that matter? Because it is hard to tell by visual inspection if the car GPS tracker is already water damaged and void of warranty.
  • Potential Wear and Tear. Since used trackers have been previously owned, they might show signs of wear and tear, which can affect their lifespan and reliability. It's important to carefully assess the condition of the GPS tracker locator before making a purchase. However, this is often not a choice when you buy online.
  • Outdated Technology. GPS tracking technology evolves rapidly, and used devices may lack the latest features and advancements found in newer models. Remember, drivers can get out-dated and software can require updates. Therefore, consider your specific tracking requirements and determine whether the used tracker meets your desired functionality.

What You Need To Consider When Buying Pre-Owned GPS Devices

If you're looking to save money, you may consider shopping for used GPS monitoring and fleet management equipment on online auction sites like eBay. While used GPS products can be more affordable than new ones, it's important to be cautious when purchasing a used device. Let's explore the pros and cons of buying used GPS equipment.
One downside of buying used GPS equipment is that the manufacturer's warranty becomes void. Once the device changes ownership, you won't have the protection of a warranty if any issues arise with the unit.
Another drawback is the possibility of missing parts. Used GPS trackers may be lacking essential components such as rubber gaskets or magnetic mounts, which are necessary for water protection. Even if the device appears to be in good condition, there's a risk of purchasing a tracker with missing parts.
Technical support is also a concern when buying used security products. Unlike reputable companies like Tracking System Direct, most resellers and manufacturers don't offer support for pre-owned devices. You won't have assistance for software downloads, accessing driving reports, or utilizing features like Google Earth.
On the positive side, purchasing a used GPS device can provide cost savings while still offering tracking and fleet management capabilities. It allows you to acquire the necessary tools at a more affordable price.
The truth is, buying a used GPS fleet management device has its advantages and disadvantages. Keep in mind the voided warranty, potential missing parts, and lack of technical support. Choosing a reputable company like Tracking System Direct ensures lifetime technical support, giving you peace of mind. Consider your needs and budget carefully when deciding to purchase used GPS equipment.

Best Buy GPS Tracker Car

As with most things in life, people get what they pay for. However, for those who are no longer interested in purchasing a used GPS system, there are still options available to get a quality product while saving some money. Here is a brief list of what consumers can do:
  • Shop Online. Pricing for products, especially technology and GPS products, will always be better through an online retailer.
  • Search Google For Coupon Codes. Often times online retailers will extend special promotions and discounts as a way to move excess inventory or make room for new products.
  • Contact The Merchant Directly. Ask if they are having any promotions or sales that you can take advantage of before making the commitment to purchase. At the very least the buyer may be able to get free shipping out of the deal.
  • Consider GPS Data Loggers. If live car trackers with a monthly subscription fee are too expensive, a solid and reliable alternative could be an investment in data loggers. Since passive GPS units only capture data, they do not require any monthly service fees, SIM cards, and the hardware costs typically 40%-50% less than real-time devices! Not to mention, passive trackers record data every second and do not depend on cellular communication or cell service in any way to perform. The one slight drawback with these types of trackers is that the data must be downloaded manually by the user.
There are a number of different ways buyers can get a quality mini GPS tracker while not breaking the bank. With a little bit of research, and by following the above tips, people interested in GPS locators can save!

Buying GPS Devices on Craigslist: A Money-Saving Option

Are you on the lookout for a good deal? With the rise of e-commerce and reduced overhead costs, online merchants are offering savings that are hard to resist. While many think of Craigslist for housing or job searches, it has become a valuable platform for online retailers to boost sales and provide excellent deals, especially for those looking to save money on GPS trackers.
Why choose Craigslist over eBay? Here's why online merchants prefer Craigslist:
  • No insertion fees: Unlike eBay, posting ads on Craigslist is free. Merchants can showcase their products without incurring additional costs.
  • No final value fees: eBay requires merchants to pay final value fees when their products are sold. On Craigslist, sellers can avoid these fees altogether.
  • Lower payment processing fees: eBay transactions often involve PayPal, which charges payment processing fees. Craigslist transactions can be conducted with local buyers, reducing or eliminating these fees.
  • More image options: eBay limits the number of product images without extra charges, while Craigslist offers flexibility in showcasing products with multiple images at no additional cost.
  • Localized experience: Craigslist's focus on local communities means faster shipping and handling times, providing convenience and efficiency.
By exploring Craigslist, you can find excellent deals on tracking devices for cars from online merchants looking to connect with local customers. Enjoy the benefits of cost savings, a wide range of product options, and faster transactions.
If you're seeking a budget-friendly GPS tracker, consider browsing Craigslist. Take advantage of the free platform, localized experience, and the opportunity to support local online merchants. Start your search today and seize the chance to find a great deal on a vehicle tracking device!

Trimming fur from around Foggy’s eyes?
Hi everyone, Foggy came to live with me yesterday. The person giving him away on craigslist described him as blind, but I think he can see some motion. He has a lot of fur around his eyes that def blocks his vision somewhat. I’d like to trim it back a bit — anyone have any tips for doing this? Including what kind of grooming tool I should use? Thanks in advance 🙂

2024.05.14 10:11 Jumpstartcoworking Guide to Finding Affordable Office Space for Rent

Finding the right office space for rent can be a daunting task, especially when you're working with a limited budget. With so many options available, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the choices and end up signing a lease that doesn't meet your needs. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to find affordable office space for rent that fits your business needs and budget.

Understanding Your Needs and Budget

Before you start searching for office space, it's essential to understand your business needs and budget. Start by identifying the number of employees you'll need to accommodate, the type of work you'll be doing, and the level of amenities you require. Consider factors such as parking, storage, and internet access.
Next, set a budget for rent and other expenses. Be sure to factor in additional costs such as utilities, insurance, and maintenance. A general rule of thumb is to allocate 10-15% of your revenue towards office space expenses.
Researching Options
Once you have a clear understanding of your needs and budget, it's time to start researching office space options. Here are some tips to get you started:
Online research: Websites like LoopNet, Zillow, and Craigslist offer a wide range of office spaces for rent. You can filter your search by location, price range, and amenities.
Networking: Ask colleagues, friends, and industry contacts for recommendations. They may have insights into the best office spaces in the area or know someone who does.
Drive-by searches: Visit potential locations in person to get a sense of the space and neighborhood. Pay attention to factors such as parking, accessibility, and noise levels.
Contacting local real estate agents or brokers: They often have access to exclusive listings and can help you negotiate the best deal.

Evaluating Pros and Cons

When evaluating potential office spaces, consider the following factors:
Rent and operating costs: Make sure you understand all the costs associated with renting the space, including utilities, insurance, and maintenance.
Location and accessibility: Consider how easily your employees can get to the space and whether it's convenient for clients.
Amenities and services: Think about what amenities are important to your business, such as parking, storage, or on-site IT support.
Lease duration and flexibility: Consider whether you need a short-term or long-term lease and whether the landlord is willing to negotiate flexible terms.
Condition and maintenance of the space: Evaluate the condition of the space and whether it requires any significant repairs or renovations.

Negotiating the Lease

When negotiating the lease, remember that you have leverage. Here are some tips to help you get the best deal:
Be prepared to walk away: If the terms aren't right, be willing to walk away from the deal. This shows that you're willing to negotiate and can help you get a better deal.
Be flexible on lease duration: Consider signing a shorter-term lease if it means getting a better rent or more favorable terms.
Share office space with other companies: Look for opportunities to share office space with other companies in your industry. This can help reduce costs and create a sense of community.
Look for additional amenities or services: Negotiate for additional amenities or services that can benefit your business, such as on-site IT support or access to a shared conference room.

Additional Tips and Considerations

When searching for affordable office space for rent, don't forget to consider these additional tips:

Alternative office arrangements: Consider coworking spaces or shared offices as an alternative to traditional office space rentals.
Securing funding or financing: If you're having trouble securing funding or financing for your office space rental, consider seeking out alternative lenders or investors.
Handling unexpected expenses: Make sure you have a plan in place for unexpected expenses or issues with the landlord.

Conclusion

Finding affordable office space for rent requires careful planning, research, and negotiation. By understanding your business needs and budget, researching options, evaluating pros and cons, negotiating the lease, and considering additional tips and considerations, you can find an office space that meets your needs without breaking the bank. Remember to stay flexible and persistent in your search, and don't be afraid to walk away from a deal if it doesn't feel right. With patience and persistence, you can find an affordable office space that helps your business thrive.

2024.05.14 06:43 Crowsbeak-Returns About the Globalist/Modern duplo apartment look

So this is mostly a rant post. But has anyone noticed that all large cities just build duplo aprtment buildings now. Like I have in the past three years been to Phoenix, Chicago, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Lansing, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Green Bay, Rapid City, and Bismark, and all have these weird duplo looking apartment buildings all being built up. They're all ugly as fuck and because they have supposed amenities will be around 2-3000 dolalrs a onth in rent easily. But they're all ugly as fuck oh and they're all granting you views of the highway at best. Like even in small places I see them going up. Like I have family in central Michigan and I encounter them around Mount Pleasent, and I have friends in central Minnesota and I see them in Elk River and I also encountered them in Dayton Ohio. Then I was watching a certain New Zealand Agricultural forum about a certain person who tried to have said place shut down and I see that person doxxed their own apartment in Ireland and it had the same duplo look. Why is there such an obsession with this duplo look?

2024.05.14 06:06 shootyashotyaaay I, a 33 year old lifelong screw up, got into one of the best law schools in the country today

I'm not sure if this kind of post is allowed here and I'm sorry for the rant, but I'm the kind of person who feels shitty about making a big deal out of my achievements to the people in my life, so i thought I'd shout it into the void and probably delete it later.
In 2016, i was 26, working at my local liquor store, struggling to make ends meet. Nothing wrong with the retail life - i respect the shit out of anyone who can take it for longer than i did - but i was miserable. I decided to try to do better for myself and the world around me.
I craigslisted and linkedin'd my way into a marketing job, satisfying the "better for myself" part, at least. I worked my way up for six years. I was happy and comfortable, but i decided i couldn't continue to work away at nothing that mattered while ignoring everything that was happening outside my window. I took the LSATs (not well, but well right) and applied to law schools around the country, hoping to become a public defender or a small time civil rights lawyer. I picked the one that gave me the best scholarship and moved with my incredible wife and my cats across the country.
I should clarify at this point that i am in many ways the antithesis of the classic type A, hustle culture law school archetype. I am, to most of my friends and daily, a starry-eyed, longhaired hippie who smokes too much weed and reads too much sci fi - but it turns out the only thing i hate more than working hard is the feeling that I'm squandering the gifts I've been given in this life.
All that is to say that the last two years have been the hardest thing I've ever done - but in short, somehow, miraculously, my lackadaisical ass has absolutely fucking crushed it at every turn. As a result, i ended up in a position i never expected. The law school universe and the legal job market is insanely old school and hierarchical, and a lot of people told me it wasn't worth it to start this process if i couldn't get into a top ranked school. Transferring from the school i got into to one of those schools requires being in the top 10% of your class, and then some. I never hoped that would be an option for me - i just wanted to do well enough to keep my scholarship, find a job, and start making a difference. I was encouraged by a mentor to expand my expectations - to see if i could climb the shitty, arbitrary power ladder with an eye towards opening up more opportunities to do more of the kind of good i always talked about.
Today, at the age of 33, i got accepted as a transfer to a "top 14" law school -- the kind that means I'm gonna be able to use my degree and my skills to help people, and maybe, hopefully, not just a few people on the front lines of a fucked up system, but a lot of people, in a structural way. I know a lot of people hate lawyers for a lot of good reasons, and that many of the lawyers people hate start out with the best intentions - but all i can do is try to climb as high as i can and keep my eyes open while i try to be one of the exceptions.
I see a lot of shit on the internet about remembering when you dreamed of what you have right now. Eight years ago, i couldn't have conceived of this path for myself. I've spent so much of my life, so many sleepless nights, remembering all the missed opportunities and things I've done wrong. I'm so glad i found a way not to let that past define me - that i didnt settle for less without trying, one more time, for real and with all that i had, to see if i was capable of more.
I'm so fucking proud of myself, guys, and so excited for the road ahead. I hope if you're wondering about taking a leap, you take it, so that you can feel this way, too - because holy shit, if my ass can do it, so can you.
EDIT: y'all are very sweet. Thank you for indulging me. (And also - just appreciating it before someone arrives to screw it up - WOW, thank you for creating this most fragile and fleeting of internet miracles, a comments section devoid of trolls and naysayers. Icing on my little digital cake.)

2024.05.14 03:49 Live-Entertainer814 Is finding an apartment in or near brooklyn for 1600 a month budget for June and July impossible?

As the title says was meant to be on going on a j1 but accommodation fell through. Me and two other friends are looking now but thought I'd ask if it was even possible. Ideally we'd live together but if that's impossible we'll probably just live near each other. Sorry if this is a dumb question just thought I'd check here incase I'm just wasting time looking. Also as an aside I saw in vetting Craigslist listing for scams that you should view the place in person, is it possible to know if a place is legit without doing this? Thanks a lot.

2024.05.14 02:09 dumbgumb Bad timing

I applied to an internship by browsing on Craigslist. It was a legit company and the only place they posted the job was on Craigslist.
I didn’t hear back for a week and today I did. They emailed me this morning at 8 saying they want to interview me in the afternoon. I can’t, I have back to back classes.
I get back to them around 11 AM. As I’m typing to respond to person A, person B sends a follow up email out of nowhere. At the same time I get a phone call from them, which I can’t accept because again, I didn’t consent to be interviewed right then and there while at school.
In my email I said I’m only available July cuz I’m busy in June. They said they’re looking to fill the spot immediately and I should reach out in July.
I’m just annoyed that they think it’s okay to assume I can do an interview today just because the editor is only free today. Maybe I won’t reach out since their time management sucks. But also bad timing that I’m busy overseas in June.
