2024.05.15 09:22 Joe2_0 The Nature of Grunts - 2

Memory Transcription Subject: Alus, Yotul auxiliary to the UN Spaceborne Infantry
Date [standardized human time]: March 3rd 2137, 1000 hours ship-time
After Gutierrez showed me to our compartment, and I dropped off my duffelbags, he began leading me to the Armory, where I would be assigned my rifle and 'sensitive items' as he put it. As we walked, my mind churned with more questions.
"Hey, uh, Guts. Back in the supply compartment, you mentioned the 'USMC'? That's the American Marines right? I thought you were UN Spaceborne infantry."
"Yeah, so, I am a Marine. Marine to the core. But Earth sorta got thrown into this whole clusterfuck without having a properly unified military, and instead of trying to set up a whole new service from scratch, they got the big five on the Security Council, being us, the Brits, the French, the Chinese, and the Russkis, to pitch in units. So you got Marines and Army making up the American portion of the SI, and Navy and Airforce making up our part of the fleet. Same for every country that pitched in, even some outside the UNSC." Gutierrez explained, his hands moving about animatedly. "Right now it's a hot mess because none of the standards, paperwork, or anything changed, but I guess they'll probably formalize and standardize the SI and Fleet after all this shit is done. All we currently got that's the same is rifles, uniforms, and equipment. The traditions and paperwork and shit are all wildly different from one countries units to another, and sometimes even within the same country's units because of different branches. The US Marines and US Army for instance, we share a lot of the same shit you know, but our low-level paperwork is branch-specific, and our organization is different."
I thought for a moment about what he was saying as we walked though the passageways, pondering on the idea of what a truly united Human military could accomplish, if everything Humanity had done so far was with a truly thrown-together force. As I looked up again, I saw we were approaching the armory, and mentally filed my next question away for later. We crossed through the threshold, and I found myself standing in front of a grated window, another Human on the other side.
"Sarn't Johnson, I'd like you to meet our new Yotul auxiliary, Alus. We're doing inprocessing, and need to get his weapon and equipment drawn and assigned."
The new Human looked down at me curiously and smiled, before reaching down and grabbing a few sheets of paper from under his desk.
"Alright" the Sergeant said, before moving deeper into the armory, stopping at a weapons cage, before unlocking it and inspecting the rifles line up inside "So, what are we billeting him as?"
"Just an 0311, needs a rifleman's kit and associated gear" Guts replied, leaning forward to watch the Sergeant.
"Gotcha. Just gimme a minute here."
Guts and I watched as the Armorer pulled a cart over, and picked out a rifle, laying it down on the cart, and locking the cage, before moving to the next rack and removing a small black bag, repeating the process along the line of cages across one wall of the armory, before coming back to the front, and pressing a button on his desk. I heard a click from a door next to the grated portal, and Gutierrez waved for me to follow him through the door, and into the armory.
The Sergeant had sat back down, and was poring over what appeared to be a checklist as he inspected each piece of equipment, ticking them off down the list one by one. When he was done, he clipped it to a clipboard, and handed it off to Gutierrez, before looking toward me.
"So, Heard you fellas went through some sorta training dirtside, so you should be familiar with at least the rifle?" He asked, picking up a notably shorter version of the standard UN rifle I had qualified on Earth with.
"Yes, ours were longer, it kinda seemed like they weren't really meant for non-Humans to use. We could all barely aim them shooting, uh, offhand I think it was?"
"Yeah, sounds about right for an indoc unit. The M-36 is a piston gun so it's good bit heavier out front than the old M-16's the Corps used to issue way back, Mag in the back kinda balances the whole shebang on the carbine variants" he slapped the side of the firearm he was holding "But on the full length rifles they're just ungodly long barrels. Ay, Guts, something like a 28-inch heavy barrel on the old M-36A1's?"
"Yeah, something stupid like that," Guts said, looking up from the paperwork he had been signing, as he set it down on the table. "Marines wanted a gun that was the same length or shorter than an M-16, Piston, and could reach out to like 800 meters with 5.56. I think Bushmaster pulled out some old relic from the 20th century and just modernized it? I remember the K&M lawsuit right when we started getting the A1's back in 2130, but yeah."
The sergeant nodded and turned back to me, pointing at the firearm again "So, when the Corps finally removed their head from their fifth point of contact-"
"Their ass" Gutierrez helpfully interjected, grinning
"Yes, But anyways, They saw some issues with going back to a full size rifle, and got carbines made to replace the A1's for combat arms. Shorter barrel, shorter gas system, shorter receiver, way lighter out front. Super nice shooting guns to boot. Bushmaster also sold them on this neat quick-change barrel system they thought up too, so now we have a bunch of smoothbore barrels for flechettes, rifled barrels for traditional ammunition, pencil barrels for riflemen, heavy barrels with bipods for autoriflemen, in a bunch of different lengths. These fuckers are modular as hell."
The sergeant had what was probably the widest grin I'd ever seen on a Human as he finished talking, and it very nearly took me aback, despite the Yotul, myself included, not having the same issues with Human mannerisms as the wider Federation.
"I-I'm not gonna have to carry all of those, right?" I asked, hesitantly, and Gutierrez broke out laughing, while the sergeant suppressed a chuckle.
"Nah kid, we just pick a rifle and swap the barrel to the one you need for what you're doing. Mostly just makes shit easier on my end really. You're just getting a carbine-length pencil barrel, lightest of the bunch."
The Sergeant shifted, bringing the rifle to his shoulder, and pointed it at a canted barrel, sticking the muzzle in, and pulled back the charging handle, sticking a finger into the rifle's ejection port, before looking in, and releasing the charging handle, before pulling the trigger with a 'click'. He then held out the rifle for me, and I took it, surprised at how much lighter it was than the one I had been issued in training.
"So, one M-36A2." the Sergeant said, before pulling a metal cylinder from a small pouch, and peering through it up at one of the lights, before getting up and grabbing a metal rod, and walking over to me. He stood alongside me, and slipped the cylinder over the muzzle of the rifle, before inserting the rod down the barrel, and peering closely at a small gap around the rod.
"And one suppressor. Clears the rod check so that shouldn't give you any issues. Guts should be able to explain the adjustable piston to you so you don't get gassed in the face while you're using it." With a quick twist of a collar on the back of the tube, the armorer pulled the device off the muzzle and stuck it back in it's pouch, and picked up a larger cloth case. He pulled something that looked like a visor on an articulating arm from it, and inserted a pair of batteries into a cylinder that ran along the top.
"This here is the AN/PVS-101 'Fused vision system'. Little heads up display that links up with the rest of your fireteam, and also has thermal and Infrared overlay. Just a fuckin' neat piece of kit honestly. Datalink is hardened to all hell, and the whole system's idiot-proof. I've seen ones that pre-date the Satellite Wars. Uses an accelerometer and gyro system to keep track of where you are in the area, and can pulse lidar to give you visuals in full pitch-black. You can also mark obstacles, enemy troops, vics, whatever with eye-clicks, and the system keeps track and spreads that out to all the linked systems. Plus there's a version that goes to the fireteam leader, which transmits all that collated data back to company level, and gives them an up-to-date picture of everything that's going on. Just honestly fuckin' cool."
He then held up a square plate on the back of the arm to his forehead, and withdrew a small box from the back and touched it to the back of his head.
"The FVS mounts to the socket on the front of your helmet, and the Processing unit just mounts to the rear, acts like a counterweight too which keeps your neck from hurting nearly as much while you're using it."
Placing both items back in the cloth bag, He finally held up what was obviously a handheld radio, and a set of earmuffs.
"This is the AN/PRC-255. It's a radio, and might as well work with Angry Pixies. I know it's got a 60 mile range, and hops frequencies, and the Comms nerds have some kind of black magic ritual to make them work. The hearing protection doesn't have some letter-and-number name, but they hook up to the radio, and they'll also link up to other headsets nearby like the FVS to communicate without radio. The Radio isn't nearly as impressive as the FVS, and the hearing protection hasn't changed in a meaningful way in about a hundred years. 3M is the Browning of comms gear, I swear. And, that's petty much it."
I looked at the neat pile of equipment sitting next to the carbine, and looked down at my hands, realizing I had nothing to carry any of it with, before looking up at Gutierrez.
"Is it alright if you carry some of this, I don't think I can carry it a-" I said, before I was cut off by laughter from Sgt Johnson.
"Nooooooo, no kid." The sergeant said, wiping tears from his eyes. "This all stays here unless you actually imminently need it. It's assigned to you now, but it stays under lock and key." he explained, while Gutierrez seemed to look simultaneously aghast and about to burst into laughter. My abbreviated training had failed to explain a few things, it seemed, as I had simply assumed that they had locked up our equipment because we were were trainees.
"See, everything in here is either VERY killy, or VERY expensive. And Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines around Earth all have a penchant for shenanigans, and breaking anything they touch. Occasionally themselves too, if left entirely unsupervised with dangerous objects. So we don't let any of you have things which can be described as 'Killy', 'Expensive', or 'Killy and Expensive' unless it's specifically pertaining to the task at hand, Rah?"
"I, uh, see yeah. Rah?" I replied, somewhat dejectedly, and slightly confused.
"Rah." The Sergeant said in reply, and began to load all of the 'Killy and expensive' equipment back onto the metal cart, chuckling to himself still, as Gutierrez tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey, chow's in about an hour, let's get you back to the barracks so you can get your OCUU's on, and outta those class-B's right?"
"Yeah, that sounds good, I don't think I've eaten since before I arrived at the Orbital, I'm starving" I said, as I followed the Spaceborne Infantry Marine out of the Armory's door, and back down the passageway to the berthing areas of Grunt Country.

2024.05.15 09:19 domanpanda Is miniPC like NUC good for portable Openshift lab?

Ive just setup SNO on my old laptop (t470p 8 threads, 32gb ram so it fits minimum requirements). Its my first Openshift installation currently just for testing upgrade chain from 4.9 up to the newest. My problem is that to make this setup work i also have egerouter-X as router (to be able to have separate LAN and connect to it with my other machines) and second laptop for some assisting services. I would like to use it both at my home and work office which adds another laptop (windows). But packing, carrying and unpacking all this stuff is way too tedious.
I have an idea to buy something like minisforum miniPC with i9-12900HK (14 core/20 threads), 32gb ram (max 64) with 2x eth (for WAN and internal LAN). I would throw Proxmox hypervisor on it and create VMs: OPNsense as router (i like it a lot), openshift (1 control plane + 2 workers maybe) and some machine for NFS and other additional services. Would such PC be enough for testing some small setups/applications yet have something more that SNO? I would just have 1 work laptop and this machine to carry in my backpack so i could have my openshift lab always with me.
Is this viable idea?

2024.05.15 09:11 AgencyFeisty484 Need advice for job application after change of social security number/CPR

I'm currently studying Latin on my 6th semester in Copenhagen, but I've lately been feeling restless and in need of a change. I want to start a part-time job – something manual in a factory maybe. I would also like to save up some money for bottom surgery. The problem is, that I'm worried about outing myself in my job-applications: they usually need some kind of appendix of school grades and such, and all of those are written out in my old Name and CPR. E.G. today I want to apply for a job at Novo Nordisk and they need the aforementioned. Would it maybe be sufficient to confirm my enrollment at my current studies? Do you have any experience looking for jobs after Name- and CPR-change? 😊🙌

2024.05.15 08:53 SOTI_snuggzz Permanent Residency in Japan - Advice Needed

hey japanlife

I'm hoping to get some advice from the community about applying for permanent residency in Japan. My current spouse visa is a one-year visa expiring in July, and since my wife and I have been married for 9 years, we meet the marriage requirement.
Here's my situation:
I'm definitely planning to speak with an immigration lawyer to get the full picture, but I wanted to see if anyone in japanlife has experience with a similar situation, particularly regarding non-taxable foreign income and its impact on PR applications.
Does it seem like I would be a good candidate for permanent residency despite not yet contributing to the National Pension (although I have a temporary waiver)? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: I was unaware of the requirement to be either on a 3 or 5 year visa. So my plan is to renew my visa, hopefully get a 3 or 5 year then apply for permanent residency. But I’m gonna leave the post up in case anyone else has similar questions.

In the quaint village of Briarbrook, nestled between rolling hills and whispering pines, lived a curious soul named Eliza. Her days were stitched together by the rhythm of the seasons, each passing year marking a new chapter in the symphony of her life. From the tender age of six, Eliza had a penchant for collecting seashells, each one a treasure imbued with memories of seaside escapades that lingered in her heart.
Through the lens of her youthful gaze, the world was a canvas painted with the hues of wonder and possibility. The winding cobblestone paths of Briarbrook, once familiar and comforting, now seemed to whisper tales of distant lands and untold adventures.
Eliza's transformation began with an unexpected encounter in the heart of the woods. She stumbled upon a mysterious figure, cloaked in stories and secrets, weaving tales spun from threads of wisdom and curiosity. The old sage, nestled beneath the gnarled branches of an ancient oak, imparted cryptic advice that sparked a yearning for discovery within Eliza's soul.
As seasons melted into one another, Eliza embarked on a voyage of self-discovery, a journey shaped by trials and revelations. She encountered peculiar companions along the way—a nomadic storyteller whose words painted vivid landscapes of far-off realms, a silent gardener who nurtured seeds of wisdom in the fertile soil of her mind, and a spirited bard whose melodies echoed the songs of forgotten legends.
Each encounter left an indelible mark on Eliza's spirit, illuminating hidden facets of her identity. The trials she faced—challenges that tested her courage, tempests that stirred her resilience—were the forge where her character was shaped and honed.
With the passage of time, Eliza's once small world expanded like a blooming tapestry unfurling to reveal the vastness of existence. Her footsteps led her beyond the village's borders, across sun-kissed meadows and moonlit forests, as she chased the elusive whispers of distant horizons.
The crescendo of her journey was not marked by a definitive destination but by the realization that the pilgrimage itself was the essence of her metamorphosis. The soul-stirring melodies of life's harmonies resonated within her, guiding her toward a profound understanding—that growth was an eternal dance, an ever-evolving rhythm that echoed the cadence of the human spirit.
In the end, Eliza returned to Briarbrook, her heart brimming with the treasures of her odyssey. The village, once suffused with familiarity, now appeared adorned with newfound hues and shades, each cobblestone and each whispered tale a testament to her evolution.
As she gazed upon the horizon, Eliza knew that her journey had only just begun—a boundless expanse of tales awaiting to be unwoven, mysteries yearning to be unraveled, and the infinite depths of her own soul waiting to be explored.

In the shimmering metropolis of NeoArc, where the glow of neon lights danced upon sleek skyscrapers, lay a world teetering on the edge of evolution. Here, in the heart of innovation, the threads of society intertwined with the fabric of cutting-edge biotechnology, genetic engineering, and the pulsating rhythm of biometrics.
Enter Marcus, a young engineer whose fascination with the fusion of biology and technology bordered on obsession. His world revolved around the labyrinthine corridors of the Research and Development sector, a sprawling enclave where the echo of mechanical hums harmonized with the whispers of experimental breakthroughs.
The city's pulse throbbed with advancements, where cybernetic enhancements were the new frontier, and genetic modifications promised to redefine humanity's very essence. Marcus was entangled in this web of progress, driven by an insatiable curiosity to decipher the symbiosis between man and machine, the convergence of flesh and circuitry.
In the shadowed alleys and clandestine laboratories of NeoArc, Marcus found himself embroiled in clandestine projects that skirted the edges of ethical boundaries. The allure of pushing the boundaries of biotechnology to transcend limitations beckoned, blurring the lines between ambition and moral compass.
As Marcus delved deeper into the intricacies of biopunk, he encountered factions entrenched in clandestine operations, each vying for control over the enigmatic possibilities offered by genetic manipulation. The allure of power and the pursuit of human enhancement became a battleground where ethics clashed with ambition, morality tangled with scientific prowess.
Yet, amidst the chaos and ethical dilemmas, Marcus found a beacon of hope—a glimmering thread of purpose that intertwined with his quest for knowledge. He realized that the true essence of biopunk wasn't merely about the advancement of technology but the ethical responsibility tethered to wielding such unprecedented power.
The climax of his journey wasn't marked by a groundbreaking scientific discovery or an engineered revolution but by the profound realization that the future of biopunk lay not solely in scientific marvels but in the conscientious application of its possibilities.
In the hum of NeoArc's bustling streets, Marcus emerged not as a trailblazing scientist pushing the boundaries of biotechnology, but as a steward of ethical innovation. His resolve to tread the path of biopunk with ethical integrity became the cornerstone of his legacy—a testament to the convergence of humanity and technology in an era poised on the brink of revolution.

bio punk
In the heart of the sprawling city of NeoArc, Marcus stood amidst the fluorescent glow of the Research and Development sector, engrossed in the rhythmic hum of the lab. His quest for scientific breakthroughs was a symphony composed of ambition and ethical contemplation, interwoven with the threads of intrigue that pulsed through the cutting-edge world of biopunk.
Character Development:
As Marcus meticulously tinkered with strands of genetic code, he navigated the labyrinth of his own moral compass. Each experiment, each ethically ambiguous choice, etched a subtle mark upon his conscience. His devotion to scientific advancement wrestled with the nagging tendrils of ethical responsibility that coiled within his mind.
Plot and Literary Devices:
One fateful night, a clandestine meeting in the dimly lit alleys of NeoArc beckoned Marcus into the clandestine underbelly of biopunk's potential. The dialogue between Marcus and a shadowed figure unfurled like a carefully crafted riddle, each word laden with intrigue and veiled warnings.
"Marcus, you possess the ingenuity to redefine the very fabric of humanity," murmured the shadowed figure, the words laced with both temptation and caution.
The plot thickened as Marcus found himself entangled in a web of intrigue, navigating a plot steeped in mystery and ethical quandaries. The external dialogue mirrored the city's pulsating energy, shrouded in the secrets of illicit experimentation, while his internal dialogue echoed with the reverberations of moral dilemmas.
Inner Dialogue: "Can scientific progress eclipse moral boundaries? Is the pursuit of advancement worth compromising ethical standards?"
External Dialogue: "I seek answers, not just to revolutionize science, but to wield its power responsibly," Marcus countered, the gravity of his words underscoring his ethical stance.
Development Through Dialogue:
Conversations with clandestine researchers, heated debates with colleagues, and ethical discussions within the corridors of the lab epitomized Marcus's journey. Each dialogue was a canvas upon which his character evolved, transforming from a zealous scientist fixated on progress to a vigilant guardian of ethical innovation.
The climax unfurled in a crescendo of moral reckoning—a pivotal moment where Marcus had to choose between the allure of unchecked progress and the moral imperative to wield biotechnology responsibly.
Conclusion:
As the neon-lit streets of NeoArc bathed in the city's nocturnal luminescence, Marcus emerged not just as a scientist but as a beacon of ethical responsibility within the realm of biopunk. His character arc encapsulated the fusion of scientific curiosity and moral consciousness, painting a portrait of growth that mirrored the city's ever-evolving skyline.
This journey through Marcus's inner and external dialogue, intertwined with plot and ethical dilemmas, encapsulated the essence of character development within the intricate tapestry of the biopunk genre.

2024.05.15 08:12 Yes_Connor_Mc Hi everyone!

I own an elgato video capture. I am trying to record old video 8 tapes off of a Sony handycam from the 2000’s. I’ve done everything properly but it will not record properly. It keeps crashing. I will get roughly 3-5 minutes into recording a tape and the application will close with no error message. And when it does, the video that got cut off is at a horrible frame rate. I have also used a vhs and instead of closing the application it instead froze my entire pc. My pc well and truly meets the minimum requirements and I’m really not sure why it’s not working.
Anything is helpful :)

2024.05.15 08:11 BlueCatStripes Interested in joining National guard but have a history of mental health?

Hello! I’ll give some background. This is a situation that I don’t think is common.
  1. I am 23 years old. A transgender man.
  2. The only medication I’ve been on as of November 2018 has been injectable testosterone. I’ve been off all other medication since I was 16.
I have been diagnosed and had a history of major depression, adhd, anxiety and probably something else that I can’t remember. After getting off my meds at 16 and beginning testosterone at 17, I’ve been completely mentally stable with zero fallbacks. I’ve grown as a person and am more mentally, physically and emotionally healthy than I’ve ever been.
Back when I was 13/14 I had attempted suicide and had a one week stay at a hospital. I didn’t attempt any time afterwards. I had multiple therapy sessions.
I’ve recently also been cleared of all mental health issues and also completed my transition.
Where I am getting with this, is it realistically possible to get into the military with this history? It’s been years since seeing a therapist and years since any medication and years since any mental health issues. Most of it was due to gender identity. I had previously spoken to a navy recruiter and was ghosted by two recruiters. I also spoke with an army recruiter that didn’t respond. It’s understandable. But if I can actually fight to get on, I’d like to. I mostly want to know if it’s possible to get in and what y’all’s recommendations to fight to get on in?

2024.05.15 08:08 Azurnight My own theory

So, I've been thinking recently about TADC and it's implications. I did a little bit of research and came up with my own theory, though I don't know if others have thought the same and posted similar thoughts and theories.
Everyone knows that upon entering the Digital Circus, you lose your memory. I thought for the longest time on why that is. After reviewing the first episode and looking at the office in the "escape route" I noticed that all the computers are very old, though not as old as the one computer that Pomni looks at. This makes me think this show takes place in a research facility of sorts. Most research facilities use funding for research, not fancy computers. This facility must have the thought of some sort of end of the world scenario and is in search of an escape from the real world. Figured this would be the case as the irony in that would be something I feel the creators of TADC would love.
This company, looking for an escape from reality, thought of saving some of their employees in virtual reality. This is a true escape from reality. This company made the Digital Circus using AI to create a perfect escape world. A world where you could live forever and always have something do to. Though, not sure why they decided on the circus theme unless the circus theme was one of the many choices the employees could choose from, explaining why their aren't more people in the circus. The exit route that Caine uses in the game was modeled after the company building these players all worked in because it is easy to set up and download with photogrammetry.
I believe that Caine was the AI master of that specific digital world. An AI made completely in charge, which made the game possible to be manipulated and played for eternity. The NPCs were originally made by the creators of the game, until the AI Caine was able to learn how to make NPCs with the humans help from the other side of the computer screen. The screen that Caine couldn't see through known as the void.
Upon entering the Digital World a company mandated computer program or application hardwired into your brain erased your memory, though the longer you stay in the game the more the application worked and the more you end up forgetting, which is why Kinger has those memory laspes. The memory wipe is so you forget about the fact that the real world is about to end and you are in fact "being saved".
Long story short, putting on the headset is an escape from reality, though once in the digital world you become confused and want to escape from that digital reality. A side effect that no one thought about.
This is probably very wrong, but I want to hear your thoughts on the subject. This is just what my imaginative brain could come up with.

swapped from 1060 3gb to 7700xt, performs like dogsht.
Need help with getting this pos card to force constant voltage and freq. I have "min" set to 2700mhz in adrenaline yet it NEVER clocks even to 2500mhz until it hits 80% usage+... So basically if im not running 4k at high it UNDER performs my 8 yr old card???
Never owned an amd card and for a good reason. Dad got one a while ago and returned it bc its ass. Benchmarks show it outperforms but it literally is useless when it comes to cpu bound games or comp games that barely strain your gpu.
When i try watching videos etc while tabbed out of a game i cannot watch them or use chrome in general without hardware accel on. had no problems with the 1060 or my 3070 on another pc. with hardware accel on my gpu usage is still super low and it still doesnt clock up causing me to lose MORE frames in my games.

2024.05.15 07:44 Repulsive_Feature_48 I sneaky snitched on my dad leading to my parents divorce

Per Sam and John’s request on Livestream… Background: My parents had been married over 30 years, they had gotten together in the late 80s and married when my mom (now 67) was diagnosed with cancer. This resulted in my adoption a few years later since mom couldn’t have kids after the chemo. Fast forward to 2019 and I (29f at the time) am getting ready to fully move out (i stayed home for a while bc after college I became my grandparents caregiver until they both passed). I had spent all day looking at apartments and was exhausted so I announced I was headed to bed early. My father (70 at the time) also announced he was going to bed too. Now it wasn’t unusual for him to go to bed early but I had noticed him taking his VR headset into bed several nights in a row after stopping in his office. I had had some suspicions of what was happening but also didn’t want to know bc…well ew! But that night as I laid in bed I could hear moaning coming from his office and was confused. I went in and saw an open to what I am pretty sure was an OF page or something to that extent with a bar across the screen reading VR active. I was already sufficiently grossed out and then head the woman on screen say my fathers name and knew this wasn’t just some downloaded porn but some kinda personalized video. No longer sleepy I went back downstairs and sat with my mom (who was sleeping downstairs bc of an injury) and gently tried to lead her in the right direction, “isn’t it weird that dad goes to bed with his VR set when the charger is not in the bedroom?” Mom kinda brushed it off at the time but now the cat was out of the bag for me and a few days later I not only heard the moaning again but earlier that day I was printing an application off his computer and I noticed a not well his folder labels XXX. Why I did this to myself I do t know but I clicked it and there were HUNDREDS of saved videos and chat logs with his favorite cam girl. When I heard him on the VR again I couldn’t handle it bc I could hear him too so I went downstairs and asked mom if she thought about what I had said days prior. She shrugged and said that whatever he is doing is his business. I then dropped the ball “even if he is paying for explicit videos from a cam girl?” Mom was obviously taken aback but again brushed it off. “Well…I guess that’s understandable. He hasn’t slept with me since I had chemo.” Meaning they hadn’t had any sexy sleep time since before I was born. I was floored but she told me to not mention it. But about a week later I found her sobbing. I asked her what was going on and she said that she felt betrayed at my dad sneaking these videos and paying for them without even attempting to be with her. I asked why she didn’t initiate and she said after chemo and everything it physically hurt to have relations. She tried several times over the years but eventually gave up trying and my dad just never tried after she told him it was painful. So I comforted my mom and she did eventually confront him about the cam girl and the video collection, which he denied and I had to tell him he didn’t mute the computer and I saw the video file and two videos at least. He got angry at me for snooping. Mom yelled at him to not try and turn it on me, and at some point asked “when did you stop caring about me and loving me” and the AUDACITY of this man to say “don’t ask me that because you won’t like the answer.” Mom now lives with me and my partner in our apartment. Father lives back in his home state near the kids that were actually his. His oldest daughter (from his first marriage) told me I was a bitch and entitled for taking my mom’s side (along with many other awful things but that’s for another post) and called my mother a bad wife for not standing by her husband. I am now no contact with my sister and ultra low contact with my father. We are struggling a lot, but mom is doing better (with plans for therapy now that her health care covers it finally), I am in therapy as well, and am happy with my partner whom my mom and two cats adore. Next step…set mom up with our favorite old man, John lmao! 😂

2024.05.15 07:39 robomopaw Question about Creality Print 5 and OrcaSlicer

I searched in reddit but the posts were almost 5-7 months old when orcaslicer had not got a profile for k1 max. So I am asking...
We know that creality print is a old version fork of orcaslicer, like beaing a old version fork of cura in the past.
CP5 is updated days ago but still it doesnt seem reliable with crashes, without having scarf joint seams and the material profile resets itself after restarting the application.
I want to continue orcaslicer as i am using it with my ender 3 v2, it has got a k1 max profile also but when I compare there are small differences in material or machine gcode with creality print 5.
So are there any disadvantages or feature loss if I copy settings from creality print profiles to orcaslicer? (fan settings especially)

2024.05.15 07:24 Subject-Exercise-660 I feel like this is adapted nhi tech (video)

https://youtu.be/AOJHyqhMMic?si=i3mIxC67lNgcMQTu
There is another American film of this nature that came out around the same time as this video an its much more compelling. the girls are nervously filming it. an making comments in full English. like "hey, guys its uhhh look it's kinda follwing us".
they stop an film it for awhile an basically get extremely anxious an they start to take off. eventually they say something like, man it's fast. then the camera / stops after they my guess is grab the vessels oh shit bars.
in the american video their hauling an this thing stalks em at maybe 30-40 mph-
an its very very weird looking. like it's literally a self aware an possibly living being. an they almost appear self illuminating- there's also a couple of these videos / drones at night. but during the leaks people started to seed in jellyfish an octopuses ect to sort of muddy the waters. (no puns intended).
sorry this is all from menory-
Firstly. These things move 20+mph with ease an maybe 40. but they have no propulsion system or sound so they are most likely not drones of anysort-
Secondly in the American film. They submerge an play with the boats occupants. Going from side to side of the ship. Their as playful as otters are. an make planned maneuvers that would be impossible for something under the boat like a submarine to perform unless they truly were remote controlled.
but when you see them. no fins, flaps, motors, visible metal parts. their literally like eggs in water- (like when you Crack an egg) only the yellow part is white. an there is basically a clear sack that is their propulsion system.
so literally literally their like drone an eggs outside their shells that move 20+-40+? mph an are maybe intelligent-?
However. In the American film. They look like literal white eggs that are watching intently. They are extremely odd. An I feel self aware, or are at least remotely controlled an the operators move them with this in mind.
They are fast. Can resubmerge, an explore. An they literally have been recorded by multiple vessels.
Imho this is either A. Very advanced navy drone tech. Or B. It's alien hardware an a scouting drone an a likely bigger ship is near the vicinity.
I've personally seen about 4 videos an expected more users here to have potentially seen these. The leaks are 10 years to even 15 years old.
However the one that's shocking is the American clip. Cause they stop the boat an the things are literally Life like. They have a sort of playful emotional connection that doesn't seem human nor machine built in nature
I personally don't think their human.
So either classified tech or unknown tech of nhi classification.
Anyways I finally found this one but there's well an more of these recorded on YouTube now.
The one with the Americans I believe is near the gulf of Mexico or off the coast of Florida.
The sea is calm an not choppy at all. An they literally have close up an photos / video in near if not full HD quality.
These things are weird as shit- They are basically eyeballs with nothing attached, fused with squirrel like curious psychology; an or otter like movements. Their like the equivalent of octopuses giving light shows. An the other video is much more captivating.
Hope you like the video. An can find the other ones. :)

2024.05.15 07:01 DocWatson42 The List of Lists/The Master List

My lists are always being updated and expanded when new information comes in—what did I miss or am I unaware of (even if the thread predates my membership in Reddit), and what needs correction? Even (especially) if I get a subreddit or date wrong. (Note that, other than the quotation marks, the thread titles are "sic". I only change the quotation marks to match the standard usage (double to single, etc.) when I add my own quotation marks around the threads' titles.)
The lists are in absolute ascending chronological order by the posting date, and if need be the time of the initial post, down to the minute (or second, if required—there are several examples of this). The dates are in DD MMMM YYYY format per personal preference, and times are in US Eastern Time ("ET") since that's how they appear to me, and I'm not going to go to the trouble of converting to another time zone. They are also in twenty-four hour format, as that's what I prefer, and it saves the trouble and confusion of a.m. and p.m. Where the same user posts the same request to different subreddits, I note the user's name in order to indicate that I am aware of the duplication.
Thread lengths: longish (50–99 posts)/long (100–199 posts)/very long (200–299 posts)/extremely long (300–399 posts)/huge (400+ posts) (though not all threads are this strictly classified, especially ones before mid?-2023, though I am updating shorter lists as I repost them); they are in lower case to prevent their confusion with the name "Long" and are the first notation after a thread's information.

2024.05.15 06:54 Real_Cranberry847 My dad is using my Social Security number.

Hi, I’m 22F and my freakin dad is still using my social security number and I don’t know what to do!
For a couple months now I’ve been ready to move out on my own. Yesterday I found this really cute studio that I fell in love with and immediately submitted an application.
Today, I’ve received a rental report (this is all new to me. I don’t know what this is for) but looking through this document I saw some additional addresses that I never seen before. I quickly searched these addresses and recognized them as being my dad’s previous and current address. I then see there a credit card account that was created in 2012, I was 10/11 years old in 2012. How that heck are they opening a credit account for a child??? How do they not know that my name on the social security number doesn’t match with his name!?
I’m beyond frustrated and conflicted, I don’t know what to do. This isn’t the first time my dad did this. When i started my first job, I received a strange package that I was being sued by a bank. I had no idea what was happening. The defendants were me and my dad so I gave the paperwork to him to deal with. I never saw something like it again. I thought this was super weird so I went to social security administration to check if any accounts had been open under my social and they told me there are no active accounts. Now, that I saw this documents, they freakin lied to me!
I’m trying to open my wings, I’m realizing now that that was a bigger deal than it is. I’m afraid this will affect the chances of approval for the studio and for the long run.
I have no freakin idea what to do. I’m going to be so sad if I don’t get approved for that studio.

During that time I had 50 percent disability, but after I got out of the Marine Corps Reserves I got upgraded to 100 percent permanent disability. I got out of Dec 2020. I have been thinking about maybe joining another branch as a reservist. I want to be a different MOS, I know that the VA takes a certain percentage back from all the times I drill. I would like to know if it would be worth it since I do miss it. I am single, no kids and 30 years old. I was maybe thinking about the Air Force Reserves, Army Reserves or maybe being a Navy Corpsmen. Would a recruiter give me the time of day and would I have to retake the ASVAB, and would I be immediately disqualified if I go to MEPS ? Pretty much my disability is from being banged up with physical injuries nothing mental. I am just trying to get other peoples opinions from different branches to get the most information possible.

2024.05.15 06:39 Similar_Coconut_3783 Accidentally re-renewed

I sent in an expedited application for a passport renewal with my old passport (which is hole punched). Turns out I had already renewed my passport in 2019 (I found it in my other place for important things). What on earth do I do now? I realize how dumb this is.

2024.05.15 06:33 Global-Marketing414 MVIC

Maximum voluntarily isometric contraction is method that uses max effort at specific angles trough range of motion. It can be done pushing or pulling against barbell, ballistic manire ( rapid force development and good for RFD ), ramp up manire ( gradualy increasing force to peak than sustaine ). There is no visible move but muscle fibers are shortening and elongate same as tendions and with MVIC contracting (that is why MVIC have good transfer to dynamic concentric strength. Old researches, many people and some choaches say that transfer is around 15° in both ways from point where is done and that is partially true at short muscle lengths. Researches show that when done at long muscle lengths where muscle is stretched (begining of lift) have grater transfer on range of motion ( more degreese ) how much depends of way have and where it's done, elict more hypertrophy and maximal strength but causes more fatigue. On short lengths have smaller transfer trough range of motion and because of that is more angle specific elict less hypertrophy and maximal strength but cause less fatigue. Some say to do isometric at long lengths only, some say no more than three positions and some on sticking point or regions ( it's vary strong tool for this because of great strength gains). Researche done by Danny Lum and others shows that doing one angel (90°) and multiple angle (90°+2 angles) elict same gains in maximal strength but multiple angle groupe was better at ballistic exercise producing more power. With MVIC activation of muscles motor units is 5% to 10% higher than with concentric and eccenrtic contraction and have many times longer duration of max muscle activation ( used like potentiation effect before power sets ). While you go by certain angle in range of motion in miliseconds with dynamic move with MVIC aim it for few seconds ( because of that it's been used on sicking points to improve weak areas ). Many people don't belive in them because of lack informations and they do them wrong (application) but people like Alex Natera (sport specific running) use them for year like stand alone method for prepearing athletes.
I try it like stand alon method at one period of my training to see by my self how does it works.
For BP start at chest level 0cm first position next positions goes up 5cm each to lock out what is in my case 45 cm of ROM, so 10 positions from long to short muscle lengths. Next training start at 2,5 cm of chest than increase by 5 cm ( 2,5/7,5/12,5...) so in two trainings all ROM was done by 2,5 cm between angles. Effort was max 2x5/6 sec. with 2 min. of rest between reps and 5 min.between each position, that is 100 sec. of max effort all together spend in 100% to 80% range ( measure it with Tindequ Progressor for static force). I have see some hypertrophy and good strength and power gains. Some say that is too much angles that is too fatigued for CNS (didn't burn out doing one exercise daily because of longer durations). Of corse it can be used as only method and will give strength but won't last forever.
What are your thoughts and do you ever use it in your training sessions?
Have some more information how thing operate on cell level and that stuff?

2024.05.15 06:21 Castallion21 Buy mini 6 or wait for 7?

Hello ipad users. I'm not the typical use case for these devices, but was hoping to gain insight on these devices and which to choose. This will be my first apple device since the ipod touch 5 gen when I was a pre-teen. I don't own anything in the apple ecosystem, but wanted this device for a very specific reason: There is a guy who builds iPad dash mod kits that allows you to use iPads as a removable center console in any vehicle. I own an old school mercedes and rather than buying those cheap chinese head units, I was going to get a sony double din stereo then use the dash kit to have the iPad mini sit overtop for a clean aesthetic. This device would primarily be used for listening to music and navigation while driving. I primarily use either my android phone or desktop computer for everything, and I have an old lenovo yogabook android tablet (actually writing this post on it) that I only use for media consumption, reading, and signing PDFs, so that is what the ipad mini would potentially replace outside of use in my car. While the current specs of the mini 6 are more than enough for my use case, what I'm more concerned about is long term support by apple. Seeing as this will be a somewhat permanent mod to my vehicle, I want to get the most use out of it, as this is a for life car for me. Since the mini 6 is 3-4 years old now, how much longer does it have for software support (mainly for apps, OS version doesn't matter to me) before it will be dropped, and does it make sense to just wait since mini 7 release is about a year away. Mini 6 prices are really good now but I'm willing to pay extra for greater support and longevity. My yogabook is on android 7 but thanks to larger freedom on downloading applications on android, its still useable 8 years later. Thanks in advance for the help!

2024.05.15 06:13 yellowboi101 What’s it like being a clinical psychologist for the Navy?

A little background on me. I’m starting my PhD in clinical psychology this fall in the Bay Area. I’ve always had an interest in working in a VA and researching PTSD and general mental health among military members. After accepting a position a PhD student, I was told about the HSPS program offered through the Navy, and how that would end with a clinical internship, and I was pretty sold on working toward a career as a navy psychologist. I met with a recruiter for the program, and I’ve started the application process. Anyways, I’m curious if anyone here knows what it’s actually like working as a psychologist, or even non-psychologists who might have interacted with a psychologist through the navy, what that was like.
TL;DR: what’s being a psychologist in the navy like??

2024.05.15 06:09 alexisdavid1892 Confused on which path to take. Pathway to PR

Confused if I'm going to push through with my Student Visa application or just scrap my plan and look elsewhere. I've visited Australia few months ago and loved everything. I have relatives there and they are willing to help me but I've done a lot of research and it's easier said than done.
Some details about me: BS IT major in Multimedia Arts graduate with 10 years solid work experience (Graphic Design, Branding, Print production, some video editing). Turning 32 years old this year. No dependents. From Philippines. Target school is QUT or Griffith.
I've talked to an education agent already and told him I'm keen on doing a career change as I am not happy with where I'm at right now. I'm originally planning to get Civil Eng or Nursing as I know they are in demand (albeit I'm starting from scratch) and might help me to my journey to PR but the agent advised that doing a career change is a red flag for case officers (which I agree) and that I will be 36 by the time I graduate and not eligible on the Post Higher Education Work Stream. He recommended I do Masters in IT or Project Management. However, I believe my work experience doesn't align with both and even if I graduate, I will have 0 knowledge and work experience and I might be considered overqualified if I apply to entry level jobs. Employee sponsorship/s might be hard to come by as well and I'm afraid all the expenses I will incur will not bring me to any solid pathway... or am I just being negative? lol
I am considering booking an initial consultation with a migration agent but I would like to here your thoughts on this. Thank you!
