Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000c, my newest addition to my arsenal
I was given this Abu Garcia 5000c by a close friend. This reel belonged to his father and looks like it has never seen line or any use. Originally I thought of using it for back bays here in NJ. I read that the line guide doesn’t work well with braid and then thought of using it with a medium heavy rod for bass.
Does anyone know what model this is? I see a 5500 for sale locally and it’s an identical to this and the seller says it’s a 5000C3. I’d like to string it up with 14lb mono or fluoro and swap out the handle. Thanks in advance.

2024.04.29 03:23 Background_Double_74 Any new info on my enslaved ancestors from Frederick County, Maryland (and PA)??

My ancestors, Patricia Ross (born in 1810 in MD), her father Harold Ross (born in PA; unknown year); and Patricia's children, George (born in 1829) & Matilda Graham (born in MD in February 1827), were all enslaved in Frederick County, MD.
I'm trying to figure out a few things:
  1. A birth county for my ancestress, Patricia Ross (born in Maryland in 1810; possibly Frederick County);
  2. Who Patricia's mother is (her father was Harold Ross, born in Franklin County, PA - not far from Frederick City, MD);
  3. Where Patricia ended up after the 1850 Census (she was in Emmitsburg, MD at that time with Robert Williams).
  4. And, given #3, any available death & burial information for Patricia & George.
  5. Since all my available info is pre-1850, I'll need Maryland contacts or Franklin County, PA contacts to help me figure this out.
What I know so far:
  1. My Graham descendants moved to Philadelphia & New Jersey (my family - and myself - all live in NJ today).
  2. George Graham, Patricia's son, after manumission in 1859, moved to Frederick and possibly Baltimore. I don't have confirmation on Baltimore, since I don't have his death info (I possibly have an accurate 1900 Census record, but I don't know if he's the same George Graham I'm asking about).
  3. Patricia was manumitted in 1838, but the deed of sale was created in 1827 (given, George's sister, Matilda Graham, was born in February 1827).
  4. George + Patricia + Harold's enslaver, Frederick Eichelberger (or "Fred Eich", as I call him) was from York, PA and moved to Creagerstown, MD - where his farm was located. When he died in 1838, his daughter Mary Magdalena Coppersmith, became the Graham-Ross family's new enslaver.
  5. I'm a descendant of the enslaved who worked at the Catoctin Furnace Iron Works (open from 1776 to 1850in Frederick City, Fred. Co., MD). The employees were all slaves, hired by Baker Johnson (my possible ancestoalso an enslaver).
  6. I may be directly related to Baker Johnson (brother of Maryland's 1st Governor, Thomas Johnson). Thomas' son-in-law, John Colin Grahame, built Rose Hill Manor in 1788; the Graham-Ross family was enslaved at Rose Hill during the year 1837 (George was 8 and Matilda was 10; their mother, Patricia Ross, was 27 - which is ironic, since I'm also 27!).
  7. I did an AncestryDNA test in 2019.
I was going to wait until taking my 23&Me DNA test tomorrow, but I figured I should get started tonight, by posting here.

Is this a normal shipping route?
This is my first time ordering from Wayfair. I ordered 3 items in 2 separate orders.
I live in Toronto (Ontario, Canada), which is super close to New Jersey. Is it normal for a heavy item like a sofa to go much further away from me before coming back super close to where it started from?
The other 2 items got here fine, so I know it’s not an address issue. It’s just this order with 1 item that’s taking this shipping route. The expected delivery day is tomorrow but I’m not sure how that’s going to happen since the item is still in KY?

2024.04.29 01:08 TheBonesOfAutumn In October 1933, United Airlines Flight 23 crashed in Chesterton, Indiana after an onboard explosive detonated. Known as the first proven act of air sabotage in the history of commercial aviation, the culprit, and their motive, remains a mystery.

Shortly before 9:00 pm on October 10, 1933, Joe Groff, a Chesterton, Indiana farmer, was engrossed in a game of hearts with his neighbors when a thunderous explosion overhead shattered the tranquility of the quiet evening. Startled by the deafening sound, Joe and his companions scrambled towards a window, their gazes drawn upwards to witness the horrifying spectacle of a burning airplane disintegrating in the night sky, showering the ground below with fiery debris.
The earth shuddered as the flaming wreckage slammed into the ground. Joe and his friends raced towards the crash site, driven by the desperate hope of finding survivors. But as they drew closer, the inferno's fury pushed them back. Fred Rhode, another nearby farmer, who had also witnessed the crash, arrived to find a scene of utter devastation. Twisted fragments of the fuselage littered the field, and lying within the smoldering remains was , “a decapitated woman, her body charred, and her limbs reduced to smoldering stumps.”
"We were startled by a terrific explosion. We ran outside. We saw the plane burning in air, about 1,000 feet up. It was falling like a rock, flames shooting out on all sides. It came down faster and faster. We could hear the motor running. The plane zigzagged as if in a tail spin. Then it hit the ground with a roar and a sound I hope to never hear again. Flames shot up at least 200 feet. I heard what I thought were people crying out. We tried to throw water on the flames, but couldn’t get near enough to do any good. We had to stand on, helpless." -Joe Groff
The aircraft was identified as United Airlines Flight 23, a ten seat, twin-engine Boeing 247, bound for Chicago, Illinois. The ill-fated flight had originated in Newark, New Jersey, and made a routine refueling stop in Cleveland, Ohio. There, a pilot change occurred, and two additional passengers joined the manifest, bringing the total onboard to seven.
Now piloting the aircraft was 25-year-old Harold “Hal” Tarrant, a two year veteran of United Airlines, and his co-pilot, 28-year-old A.T. Ruby, a graduate of the University of Illinois. Hal was the son of a wealthy Illinois merchant. Recently engaged, his fiancé, Bessie, was waiting for him at the terminal in Chicago.
Also aboard was 25-year-old stewardess Alice Scribner. Alice was the daughter of a former Wisconsin state legislator. After graduating from college, she became a teacher, and later a nurse at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin. Meeting United’s height and weight restrictions at the time, less than 123 pounds and not any taller than 5 feet 2 inches, she had joined the airline only recently. Her fiancé, Evan Terp, was also waiting for her at the airport in Chicago.
25-year-old Dorothy M. Dwyer was flying to meet her fiancée in Reno, Nevada. She was supposed to be on an earlier flight, but missed it due to a flat tire on the way to the airport in Newark. 44-year-old Emil Smith, a former army officer and grocery store owner, had also boarded in Newark, heading back home to Chicago.
Warren Burris, a radio operator for United, was one of two additional passengers picked up in Cleveland. Warren was being shuttled to Chicago to crew another flight. Also added to the manifest in Cleveland was 28-year-old Frederick Schoendorff, manager of a company that made refrigerators in Chicago.
Hal's routine radio transmission at 8:39 p.m. Central Time suggested normalcy; despite the slight drizzle over North Liberty, Indiana, the flight seemed on course. Yet, twenty minutes later, when his next scheduled check-in was due, silence echoed across the airwaves. An hour later, the airline’s station manager received a brief teletype message confirming their worst fears; Flight 23 had crashed.
Meanwhile, in Chesterton, fire crews, police, and local volunteers converged, their desperate attempts to quell the raging inferno a futile battle against the wreckage's relentless flames. As the fire burned into the night, a grim reality settled in; there were no survivors.
Evidence suggested a midair explosion had ripped the aircraft in two, sending the main fuselage, housing both the passenger cabin and cockpit, plummeting to the ground, inverted, at an estimated 150 miles per hour. Meanwhile, the severed tail section, just forward of the lavatory, fell about one-half mile from the scene of the crash, nearly entirely intact.
The bodies of Hal and his co-pilot, A.T. Ruby, were found near the airplane’s mangled cockpit. The bodies of stewardess Alice Scribner, and passengers Dorothy Dwyer and Fred Schendorf, were found nearby, amongst the wreckage of the cabin. The bodies of Emil Smith and Warren Burris weren’t found until the following morning, in the weeds about half a mile from the main section of the plane, near the tail section.
At first, it appeared to be a tragic accident; A fuel leak, possibly. Structural failure also was suggested. Some believed the plane had been struck by lightning, and there was even a theory it had been hit by a meteorite. Mounting evidence of foul play, however, led to an FBI investigation, headed by Melvin Purvis, the head of the Chicago office who would later gain fame as the G-man who “gunned down John Dillinger.”
A full-scale investigation promptly unfolded, hampered initially by the disturbing reality of looted wreckage. Drawn by morbid curiosity, onlookers from miles around had pilfered souvenirs from the crash site, hindering initial efforts. For example, the propeller of one engine was missing a blade, and investigators never found it. Decades later, in a 1999 interview as part of a project conducted by the Westchester Public Library in Chesterton, local resident Howard Johnson finally disclosed what happened to it:
“Donald Slont, who later ran Flannery’s Tavern, was on the local fire department. Of course, the fire truck went out there immediately when the alarm was sent out. When they picked up their stuff from the fire truck to come home after they had done everything that they could, one of the propellers was lying on the ground. It had broken off. Don was one of these guys that just laid his hands on anything that he could see, and he grabbed it,” Johnson recalled. “When they were investigating the thing, they couldn’t find that propeller so they thought the propeller had come off and that’s what made it crash. And here Donald had it all the time. I think it had red, white and blue stripes around it so that when the propeller turned, it looked like a circle of red, white and blue.” -Howard Johnson
United Airlines sold the remaining majority of the wreckage to a Hobart, Indiana junk dealer for $75. He hauled it away just days after the crash. However, despite the missing pieces, amidst the remaining debris agents stumbled upon several unsettling clues; Shrapnel holes were found on the inner-side of the remains of the rear lavatory door. Airline blankets stored in a cubby in the lavatory also bore the same holes.
In a bombshell development on October 14th, the FBI, after consulting with the Crime Detection Laboratory at the Northwestern University in Chicago, announced the cause of the crash was a “high-powered onboard explosive containing nitroglycerin, dynamite of high percentage strength, TNT, or some similar substance."
The meticulous examination of the wreckage pinpointed the blast zone towards the rear of the aircraft, most likely originating in the lavatory or the blanket compartment. “The investigation centered upon a piece of blanket, part of the plane’s equipment, and several pieces of the metal surface of the plane. Both had been pierced many times by small bits of metal. Only a high explosive could produce a force great enough to force metal through metal.“ This revelation transformed what was initially seen as an accident, into a confirmed act of sabotage.
In the wake of the news, a swift search for the culprit was launched, and the FBI quickly zeroed in on passenger Emil Smith. Emil, who boarded the aircraft in Newark, reportedly purchased life insurance just one day prior to the flight. The two dollar purchase promised a payout of ten thousand dollars should Emil’s plane crash. Additionally, eyewitness accounts noted him carrying several peculiar items onto the plane, including a firearm and a brown paper sack he stashed in the overhead compartment.
A thorough investigation into Emil’s background, however, revealed a seemingly normal life. The 44-year-old Army veteran, who served in Hawaii during World War I, resided with his aunt, Anna Reidl, on Argyle Street in Chicago. Previously, he co-owned and operated a grocery store with Anna until its sale in 1930. Financially secure after the sale, Smith enjoyed a leisure lifestyle filled with hunting, fishing, and attending baseball games. Anna described him as a quiet individual who often joined her in the evenings for pinochle games.
Emil’s aunt told investigators he had flown to New York City for the World Series games on October 3rd and 4th, residing at the Roosevelt Hotel on 45th Street and Madison Avenue. While his stay at the hotel was confirmed, investigators couldn't verify his attendance at the games. His activities during his remaining days in the city were also equally unclear. On October 9th, Emil purchased his plane ticket and flight insurance directly from his hotel desk. His final known movement prior to boarding the aircraft occurred at 2:10 p.m. on October 10. Emil sent a telegram to Anna reading, “Leaving New York today by plane. Everything O.K.”
During a later examination of the wreckage, Emil’s brown paper sack was recovered from among the airplane debris. The contents of the sack were never disclosed, but authorities determined it posed no threat. As a result, Emil was cleared of any involvement in the incident.
The following months saw a flurry of investigative theories, including potential "mob involvement" due to the recent travel of Joseph Keenan, an Assistant Attorney General tasked with investigating organized crime, on United Airlines just days before the crash. However, this theory was swiftly dismissed as implausible.
Pilot dissatisfaction was also explored. A United vice president relayed an indirect threat regarding potential aircraft damage if "scab" pilots were used during a labor dispute. Additionally, the brother of co-pilot A.T. Ruby reported ongoing issues with certain union members. However, after interviews with the alleged source of these threats, and confirmation that labor tensions had subsided by the time of the crash, no evidence of employee sabotage was ever found.
Also interviewed was J.J. Lavin, an American employed by the Chinese Consulate who facilitated wheat shipments from the U.S. to China. Lavin drew suspicion when FBI agents learned he was originally scheduled to be aboard the crashed flight, but had rebooked to a later one. He was reported to have made comments about a bomb causing the crash, supposedly before such information became public. Lavin denied these claims to investigators, though he acknowledged the possibility of such discussions while under the influence of alcohol. He was later eliminated as a suspect.
The investigation continued for two years. Then, on September 20, 1935, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, declared “all undeveloped leads in this case have been exhausted, and the investigation has not developed any facts which would justify presenting this matter to the United States Attorney. Therefore, this case is being closed.”
The crash of Flight 23 is known as the first proven act of air sabotage in the history of commercial aviation. In addition, the death of Alice Scribner was the first instance of a stewardess dying as a result of an airline crash. When Alice’s younger sister, Velma Scribner, walked down the aisle in 1940, she wore a “handmade peasant frock that had been imported from Paris. Described as eggshell in color, with a bodice smocked at the neckline, it was trimmed with embroidery on the sleeves and front.” The dress had been intended as Alice’s wedding gown.
In 2017, the FBI declassified 324 documents related to the investigation. Unfortunately no new leads were developed. Whoever was responsible for the crash, and their motive, remains a mystery.

2024.04.29 00:58 MrinfoK So, it seems the ‘froth’ signs in housing prices are bubbling over

At least here in NJ. A house on the next block from me just went through a sale and was then flipped after about 6 months.
A little background. The house was occupied by a guy I know and his mother. Been in the family forever. He led a life as n alcoholic, non working sort of leach. The house had been in disrepair for a decade. The mom died. After that the sister threw the brother out and sold the house ‘as is’ fro 330k
That price is about as cheap as you can get in my town. Anyway, I walk my dog daily by the house. The flipper who bought it literally used 8 full dumpsters trashing the house contents.
Work that was done was all cosmetic.
Painted over asbestos shake siding
Re did concrete sidewalks, horrible job. It’s already flaking
New windows on the front of house
Touchup drywall and paint
New roof
Thats about it, as far as I could tell
House just sold for 620k. A 3 BR bilevel. 1 and 1/2 bothrooms. No basement…Quarter acre lot. At least 4 100 foot trees in yard that are gonn need to come down soon. Really bad shape
I met the buyers, like we get often around here. Moved from NYC, young couple with a baby. They seem clueless about the house. Just outbid everyone else. I’d bet they did zero due diligence.
IDK, it really feels like we are at the top. This is about as extreme froth as I’ve seen yet. Anyone else feel things are getting toppy?

2024.04.29 00:19 human_to_be Thoughts on this deal? 2018 Porsche Macan S

https://www.uniqueautomall.com/details-2018-porsche-macan-s-used-wp1ab2a59jlb36176.html
I’m in the northeast US and shopped around for a while all the way from New England to NJ for Macans, especially the S. Found this to be, imho, a good deal for this car with a clean title. I’ve already put a refundable down payment to secure the car and just waiting for a go ahead on a PPI I scheduled in a couple days to finalize the sale.
I understand Porsches can be expensive to maintain but I’m planning on getting the dealerships extended warranty and can foot the regular maintenance. If the PPI gives me a green light, is there anything you guys would considerecommend in way of NOT making this purchase?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: To add, I’ve seen it in person and test driven it and really like the drive, look, and features.

2024.04.28 17:27 usnamom14 Can we talk about that move to Hawaii that the Websters turned down to stay out of the rat race and live in their much loved duplex in the marsh…which is now on the market because they moved to Florida last week.

Can we talk about that move to Hawaii that the Websters turned down to stay out of the rat race and live in their much loved duplex in the marsh…which is now on the market because they moved to Florida last week.
Pam is sailing and is boring. No one cares if Matt is with her or not. She’s trolling this group so let’s talk about stuff she’s trying to distract from.
In this clip Pam talks about how much money they made on the Dream house. When they left NJ, she posted that she made 200k on her house at BHW. She also sold her G-wagon for over 150K (which she said she used to pay off the condo) and she had some money saved she said was set aside for the pool in the other house they sold, approximately another 100k. When she built the dream house, she posted that they put in 450K cash of their own money into that build so that Pam could have everything she could ever want in her forever home.
But let’s look at those numbers. I’m not a finance wizard, but when I add up how much they sold the dream house for (1.1m(?)) and subtract what they say they put in (450k), the closing costs (4% = 44k), the mortgage of approximately 550K I come up with a final number of about 56K profit. Then they had the cotel on the market for 299K. It also sold and they made a profit of about 120K because even though it was paid off with money from the J wagon sale, they had a mortgage of approximately 170K (which is about the amount the down payment was on the duplex) but after the 4% closing costs they were left with about 100K from that sale with taxes (I’m being generous with the % of closing costs as most costs are about 6% of the selling price).
So, the PROFIT from the cotel and the house was around $160K give or take a couple of thousand dollars. Does that sound about right? I am not a math genius.
They want to live debt free so what does Pam do with that profit to get them debt free? Does she pay down the mortgage so they can live free of the rat race and have a simpler life? Nope. She goes to Hawaii, to New Zealand, visits Disney World several times, goes on several Disney cruises, takes a tour of the VRBOs in Florida, buys some expensive cookware, a new Wolff stove, lighting fixtures and a new backsplash for the duplex.
Then they claim they are debt free, mortgage free because they have 500K in the bank, could pay off the duplex except for some word salad skit about being nice to their mortgage guy by not paying off the mortgage in Pawley’s Island until May 1 (just a coincidence that they moved before May 1 but let’s not quibble about that just yet) and are they ever happy about living the “simpler life”! Sorta. I’ll post a live clip about that in a bit so we can discuss it.
I know this is beating a dead horse. We all know they moved to the duplex because they couldn’t afford to keep the custom home build and they had zero opportunity to move to Hawaii and now the swamplex is being sold as they’re moving to Florida.
Pam, before you get your maternity panties all twisted in a knot, all of these numbers are from your posts in your group online and numbers from public sources along with using logic. (I’m pretty logical, thank you very much).
Living that simple life would be so much easier if the Websters actually didn’t post as much but also were actually honest with what they do post.
Happy Sunday!

2024.04.28 16:53 blastbeat-billy Still living paycheck to paycheck...

In a nutshell, feel like I make good money but am still living paycheck to paycheck and want to get serious about putting some money aside.
I (M38) work in software sales. TC last year was £174k. Wife (37) doesn't work (I'm fine with this) and we have 2 kids, one at primary school and one going to nursery 3 days per week (just got the 15 free hours). Currently renting in the south east, £1950 pm - fixed for next 2 years. I have a Junior ISA setup for each of the kids with about £2k in each and pension with about £57k.
This may sound like more of a rant than request for advice, but I just feel like I'm doing well on paper but not in real terms. No emergency fund, no investments, don't own a house, etc. To be clear, we're not extravagant people - Wife isn't into designer handbags or clothing (phew) and I'm not into cars or anything else particularly pricey. We have a pretty basic family car and go on holiday once per year (last year was to visit family in Europe). We don't go out for dinner or shows all the time either. I'm struggling to see where all the money goes.
For those of you who also have/had this feeling of living paycheck to paycheck, any advice? Is the best bet to just really cut back in all areas for a while to see if it's feasible and just make that the new baseline for spending? It feels like trying to salary sacrifice to get under £100k and get the tax relief would be very difficult at this stage.
I'm tracking spending on a spreadsheet and have used Monzo for a while to properly track spending categories but still feels like we're treading water. One area I do think we overspend on is groceries (usually about £650 pm) but both my kids are CONSTANTLY hungry shrugs
Appreciate the thoughts and advice of the sub!
EDIT 1: Base is £120k (£6k net pm) Last year's TC was £174k. Work in sales so can go 2-3 months with no commission then a big chunk of change comes in. I've based my maths on the base salary figure, as it's guaranteed each month.

2024.04.28 15:23 Questioning-Warrior As a middleclass person, what can I do to better prepare for recessions, economic downfalls, etc.

There's lots of talk about the economy tanking, there being recessions, and what have you (to be honest, I'm not well-versed with all of these terms about economics. They just come across as techno babble) from current trends such as declining populations (then again, we have to scale back on our numbers eventually, but I digress). One thing I can get behind is that I must be careful with how I spend my money as goods and services go up in prices. However, I likely need to know more to be better prepared for financial difficulties until the economy stabilizes once again. I will share some info about myself without giving away anything private:
I live with my siblings and parents (as housing is expensive and we already have a decent home with paid off mortgage) in NJ (I know that it may not be the best place to retire, but my family and I currently have a comfortable living and are stable for the moment)
Since our parents are retired, my siblings and I each pay for our stay. While I won't tell how much I have, make, or am paying for my stay (I considered the last part, but am nervous about it), I am currently stable.
I strive to minimize expenses such as walking to work to save on gas (my job is within 30 minutes of walking distance. And that's without running)
I'm now more hesitant to pay for non-essential stuff such as games (I strive to wait for sales on Steam, and only for games I'm really interested in)
I strive to make the most out of what I have at home.
My family has installed solar panels so we spend less money on energy in the long run. Regardless, I do strive to turn off unneeded lights and I unplug my devices that are not being used for a while.
There's more things I could have mentioned, but I'd rather stop. I just wanted to give an idea as to what I'm doing and know whether or not I'm on the right track. More importantly, I'd like to know what I am missing and what can be done about it without falling into scam advice. I wish to prepare for the worst case scenario should the economy collapse and my family and I have to be more resourceful.
What would you advise?

2024.04.27 23:07 sixersinnj Help in NJ

Desperate for help. Can’t sell property
So my wife and father in law has a rental property that my wife and I are now selling. We are in contract with a buyer who unfortunately is taking longer than expected which a bit unrelated to what I need help with. We filed taxes on my personal tax returns. But for some reason the llc was not in good standing. When I went to reinstate online it won’t let me. I had to also clear the bulk sale of the property which is now done. I hope that would reinstate it but no. When the attorney goes to pull the report the llc is not active. I can’t reinstate it online. It says it’s not active. My attorney just told me we can’t sell the property unless the llc is in good standing. I can’t get through to anyone at nj state treasury to help. I’m soooooo frustrated

2024.04.27 19:22 serg733 Looking to buy a used tesla model 3 2022

My question is do you guys think it's worth buying a used tesla ? It's a 2022 model 3 standard with 32k miles and it cost around 20k and I won't be paying any sales tax because I'm in NJ anyways it has low mileage and gas is pretty expensive I did the math and spend around 200 a week on gas so per month I can use that pay off the car and charge it at home at night during low peak hours Thanks

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.

Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.

Explanation of MVO/TTO to save time:
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.

USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. Management...GOOD LUCK)

2024.04.27 14:28 PhoenixAshes_ Kpop community and the way they treat BTS

Honestly, it does not sit with me how the K-pop community treat BTS and how consistent they are in what they are doing to them. The reason I am writing this is because of the amount of misinformation being spread about BTS and their success and history not only distorting facts but also diminishing their impact in Kpop, those things are being done again now from EXOLs, VIPs and Blinks as major fandoms contributing and leading this.
Just from the recent Bang Pd statements about wanting to step on "Aespa" and some of the rumors about how hybe giving all resources to NJ to be able to successed (which btw any sane person understand that this means get them opportunities as how they should to be able to succeed and not about buying charts or awards), also from an EXO fanpage that spread wrong translation as a joke about MHJ with context of blaming BTS for EXO downfall in charts and awards. Those fandoms made multiple tweets with millions views and over 20k, 30k and 40K even 50K likes claiming how BTS are inorganic how EXO were sabotaged by Bang Pd in 2017 and BTS rising was due to Bang pd manipulating media, charts and awards appearantly in the 2017-108 years were mind you BTS were still dismissed and downplayed by kmedia, any ARMY from back then and any kpop stan who checked the k media and industry scene knew how their international success were being dismissed and not talked about a lot by the media itself. You want to tell me Bighit back then when BTS were still a rising star had more power over both media and award shows over SM the biggest company in K-pop back than in their prime?!!
The amount of misinfo being spread when BTS had to work so hard and deal with the entertainment industry trying to make them fail both in Korea and internationally while they rising, dismissing every stressful thinn they had to go through, to see new kpop stans or bitter old kpop stans defaming them by accusing them of doing payola and pushing the narrative they cheated their way to the top because of how Big HYBE is now do not sit with me. It's not because of HYBE BTS are big, it's because of BTS that HYBE is big now and it's because of them that HYBE can have all these connections internationally and have the power they have now, HYBE groups after BTS have big company privilege but BTS were not privileged like the big 3 artists.
The posts I saw are so disturbing. Kpop stans are blaming BTS for:
-SVT being bought by hybe because they were also a threat to BTS
I also want to point out how this behaviour toward them was the same even before years ago so it's not just about new kpop stans who are teens who do this, just see the difference between how kpop stans reacting to what Bang Pd said about surpassing Aespa (which I agree with the reaction totally weird of him) to what the big3, SM and YG were saying about surpassing BTS ( SM creating a whole SuperM for that) or about how without him there would be no BTS (LSM), or about saying their x group is bigger and more impactful than BTS and BTS fame coming from SNS only not from their music (YG) not even starting with the task force big 3 did about studying BTS and their success trying to know a formula to duplicate them somehow. The difference in reaction from the K-pop community to this gives a peak of hypocrisy.
I am talking about how it's justified and understandable for MYs to be angry about the said comment but I remember how the kpop community Vinalized army for the same thing and no one had issue with what these kpop companies said about BTS (and it's not just the things I mention I clearly remember everything YG and LSM said about BTS and how they name dropped them everywhere including their investors reports while downplaying them) and remember the kpop community reaction to this by yet again dragging the fandom for having an issue with this.
And mind you, the discrediting still going till now while denying every impact BTS had on the industry and how far they brought Kpop to the international scene. The cultural impact they had and still having is being treated as a joke while at the same time every group these fans stan are enjoying the visibility BTS gave to kpop and the international platform that is opened to these groups to get new fans everyday but yes BTS cheated they had no impact at all, armys are also delusional no one knows BTS no one listen to them, kpop became so popular these years for no reason but the prayers of old kpop stans.
I know stan circles will always be toxic however I can't stand the amount of hypocrisy and misinfo and how the kpop community (not just on twt even on Facebook and tiktok) try to rewrite BTS history and legacy like this in every opportunity they have. The most ironic part is this coming majorly from Big 3 stans that are now claiming Big 3 supremacy for being the most organic companies in the universe, so iconic considering how big 3 dominated the kpop scene for ages and had the term "Big 3 privilege" about them for years but yes BTS and bighit back then had more power than those big 3.
And yes HYBE groups have privilege now, every artist comes from huge company have privilege, but BTS never got that privilege as Big 3 artists when they debuted, BTS had a clear step by step growth and never had big audience from the beginning and they also never had an overnight success, just go and check their growth in concerts and fanmeeting audience over the years an actual real evidence not anything and company and media is saying but something you see with your eyes, they the most noticable kpop act in growing from having small audience gradually to having the biggest audience a kpop group can have now. Even their sales and streams had this step by step growth.

2024.04.27 06:16 Big_Wolverine4609 Sell my investment house and invest?

Sell my second house and flip to investments?
Pretty simple premise here. I own a second home that currently rents for a net profit of approximately $20K/yr. I could sell the home for about $350K. (No mortgage) What I'm thinking is the following: I'm seeing about 6% ROI in rental income. (And it takes effort, time, etc.) If I sold the home and invested the money (let's say in index funds) I could (historically) expect a better return on the money without the headaches of being a landlord. The biggest factor right now is that I lived in the house for 21 years and only moved out in Dec 22 when I bought my current home, so I would avoid capital gains taxes on the sale. (We're in NJ if that matters).
I feel like I should sell it now to save the tax implications and then let the money work for me in the market. Thoughts?
I'll add that my wife and I make a comfy living and we're already maxing our 401k and HSA contributions. We're already in a high bracket, so the rental income isn't really a plus. I feel like the growth in an index fund (or VT etc) would be better because I can redeem as needed later in life (in possibly a LOWER bracket) I'm 43, she's 34, so we have some time before retirement anyway.

2024.04.27 05:30 sixersinnj Desperate for help.
