2024.05.15 17:24 AllNamesareTaken55 Unpopular opinion: I hate decos

I really don’t care for 90% of them, theres a few ones that sorta look cool but I don’t want to crowd my base with 100s of pointless decorations.
I can understand decos from achievements those are actually meaningful and can be used to showcase what you have done already, or seasonal stuff like the yearly christmas tree is fun to line up, but I really don’t need this many and they will just stock pile in my base editor never to be seen again.
Now it seems like we get an event every other month with 5 more decorations.. whats the point?

2024.05.14 20:21 Ill_Variation_2480 TTPD's new nickname "Female Rage: The Musical" should upset you.

Edit: If you are going to comment on the length of this post, please don't. This is not a simple snark but rather an actual critical think piece about feminism and Taylor Swift.

Introduction

Pertaining to Taylor Swift, "Female Rage" has deviated from its intended meaning after Swift debuted a new performance of The Tortured Poets Department during the Eras Tour. Now, according to Swift's use of the phrase, female rage is interpreted as public backlash against Swift's dating choices rather than as a response to the broader injustices against women and women's rights. This post examines Taylor Swift's flawed feminism, philanthropy, branding, and the controversial trademark petition for the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical". Swift's background as an entertainer, indeterminate politics, and alignment with capitalism over feminism pervades her legacy, again threatening her public tolerance as not just an individual but as a brand.

Once Upon a Female Rage...

If you were cognizant in the early 2010's, you've heard countless jabs at Taylor Swift in the media. Magazines, radio, or online. Music critics did not take her seriously as a songwriter; parents put a woman on an unrealistic pedestal as the ideal role model for their children; she dated too much and used men as lyrical fodder. No matter the story, it inevitably spread, conjoined with everyone's respective opinions, and you'd be left to wonder, "Why does everyone hate this girl so much?"
Taylor's target demographic has always been young or adolescent girls, more so when Swift herself was one. She made music that spoke to the awkward misfit, cultivating a para-social relationship with fans on MySpace, then later twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, where Taylor posted relatable vlogs showcasing the life of a homegrown American girl. Taylor had a delayed public "growing up" and, compared to her female pop contemporaries, Swift never "gratuitously sexualized her image and seems pathologically averse to controversy" (and, apparently, never even had a sip of alcohol until she turned 21). She was more than happy to spin this narrative to allude to an inherent moral superiority above other women in the industry (Better Than Revenge, heard of it?), engaging in the very slut-shaming that she herself endured (the Madonna and Whore archetypes). The victim complex arose with the need to prove Taylor as a different type of pop girl. Based upon her holy and clean image, Swift had been dubbed "a feminist's nightmare", and that "[To Swift] other girls are obstacles; undeserving enemies who steal Taylor’s soulmates with their bewitching good looks and sexual availability." Feminism and Tennessee-Christian country values don't exactly mix, it seems.
Years later, Swift befriended Lena Dunham and thus experienced white feminism osmosis, where Dunham taught Swift that real feminists defend rapists, makes insensitive jokes about rape and abortion, and prioritize all-white casts. Swift then declared herself a feminist in 2014, saying,
"Becoming friends with Lena – without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for – has made me realize that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so."
I suppose the male-centric songwriting subject that permeates Swift's discography contained covert feminism and that we just didn't see that. Perhaps, the "Bad Blood" song and music video were written only in jest and not about poor Katy Perry, for Swift, as a feminist, would "never make it a girl fight" or tear other women down (though all Katy did was date your terrible ex-boyfriend and allegedly steal three backup dancers from your tour). In 2013, Swift said, in response to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's joke towards her serial dating, "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."
There was that time in 2015 Taylor said that Nicki Minaj was "invited to any stage [she is] on" (as if Taylor expects to have access to every stage, award, and platform that Nicki might not otherwise have as a black female artist...yikes!) in response to Nicki's criticism of the white + thin VMA nominations. Later, Nicki responded with confusion, as Swift continued, "It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..". Of course, this 'beef' was 'squashed' when Nicki performed with Taylor at the VMAs, with Nicki quite literally only having 38 seconds of stage time without Taylor. Maybe all that parading around with a legion of famous white women - similar to the way Taylor might've done with her numerous 1989-era handbags - was in fact a stance against gender inequality, and that this display of "girl power" should be enough to constitute Swift as a feminist icon.
Even while Swift says that Dunham informed her feminist outlook, she dances around the exact contents of those beliefs: "what she believes, what she says, what she stands for" is not exactly insightful towards what beliefs Swift might have inherited. Taylor never broaches women's rights topics such femicide, FGM, forced pregnancy & marriage, sex trafficking, women in slavery, women's financial and political oppression, women's educational rights, women's health, or women's autonomy, so we can assume she only gives a fuck about "girls supporting girls" (whatever that fucking means).
Despite some questionable (and sometimes vindictive) behavior, Taylor as a young woman did not deserve every media lashing that she received. We cannot deny that most headlines and criticisms perpetuated a misogynistic rhetoric which has plagued Swift for a majority of her career. Acknowledging events such as the development of her ED, her sexual assault trial, "Famous" lyric and MV depiction of Taylor, and the explicit Twitter deepfakes, for example, as both disgusting and unfortunate things that happened to a young woman in Hollywood does not negate the fact that Taylor is mostly a performative feminist.

Get Your Fucking Ass Up and Be a Philanthropist, It Seems Like Nobody Wants to Be a Philanthropist These Days

In 2013, Taylor Swift cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. The donation amount - $4 million - was the largest individual artist gift ever donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which is, of course, mentioned on Swift's website. The two-story facility features three classrooms, an instrument room, and an interactive children's exhibit gallery. Swift also performed at "All for the Hall" charity shows and has donated numerous artifacts from her career (such as notable guitars, tour costumes, etc) to the museum.
This was over 11 years ago, and it is still the only notable philanthropic contribution Taylor Swift has made.
For a woman of her net worth and stature, and a woman who recognizes the difficulties for women in film and music, you would think that Taylor Swift might establish a scholarship program for women to study the arts or something. Perhaps Swift might even consider becoming a member of organizations that support female artists, or one that supports LGBTQ+ causes (since she is now proudly an ally), yet she remains superficial with her graces. Broader philanthropy, such as donating relief aid to Palestinian women or women impacted by violence and discrimination will probably never receive any financial support from Miss Swift because then she'd be using her money towards philanthropies involving anyone but white entertainers.
She even says herself in Miss Americana, "My entire moral code as a kid and now is a need to be thought of as 'good'." Well, she's certainly thought of as good, though her actions say otherwise. She's more than happy to do a vaguely altruistic song and dance for a clip-worthy interview quote and mass appeasement, then fuck off to one of her mansions on a 20 minute private jet flight, rather than actually contribute to anything pertaining to the causes she has endorsed. Yet, far too many people continue to give a woman such as her their money, time, and energy, and she hoards these resources to herself.

I Like Some of the Taylor's Songs, But What the Fuck Does She Know About Feminism?

Swift continued with her self-proclaimed feminist campaign, positioning herself as a political activist and LGBTQ+ ally in the Miss Americana documentary. The primary focus of the documentary consists of the sexual assault trial, Andrea Swift's cancer diagnosis, Taylor's ED and body dysmorphia, media scrutiny, and, largely, finally speaking up about her politics publicly, mostly her opposition to the 2018 Tennessee Republican senate candidate, Marsha Blackburn, and Blackburn's beliefs. Swift says, following a scene discussing her experience during the trial,
"I just couldn't really stop thinking about it. And I just thought to myself, next time there is any opportunity to change anything, you had better know what you stand for and what you want to say."
We must ask ourselves, though: when has Swift ever spoken up to change anything? Okay, pulling her entire catalogue from Spotify because they didn't pay their artists enough and similarly pulling her catalogue from Apple Music are changes that she leveraged due to her revenue potential and power, but they are not pertinent to the average woman's rights. Moreover, these are issues that directly impacted Taylor's income, which was enough reason for her to protest in the first place. Swift has sold the most units for a female artist in first week sales, is the first female artist with 100k monthly Spotify listeners, is the first female artist to win the Album of the Year Grammy 4 times, and is the first female artist to do X, Y, and Z, all while being inoffensive and family-friendly to boot. The actual Taylor Swift seems unwilling to compromise the brand of Taylor Swift by contributing in meaningful ways to feminist causes, especially if it is for women outside of America and Hollywood.
The reason political anthems such as "The Man" and "Only the Young" of the Lover era feel disingenuous and corporate is because, well, it is. Taylor has taken every opportunity to advance her career or public image at the expense of other women. What is truly genuine to Taylor's outlook on other women is vying for male attention, taking down female competition, and vocalizing feminist injustices only if they directly impact her and her money. Some will argue that it's satisfactory for a woman with such a huge platform to even TALK about feminism, but that just isn't enough. It's even less impressive when you candidly look at the scope of her feminist lens: "If I was the man, then I'd be THE MAN", or "I really resent the ‘Be careful, buddy, she’s going to write a song about you’ angle, because it trivialises what I do", and, of course, "We all got crowns". Feminism, but only when it happens to me. It gets worse when you look at Taylor's track record of copying other famous women and removing other female artists as potential threats to her pop prowess.
It's good for PR to align yourself with certain blanket feminist and political beliefs, therefore good for branding, therefore good for ticketing and merchandise sales, therefore good for business. And Taylor Swift is a business.
She's not a feminist. Taylor Swift is a capitalist.

I Can't Pay Those Sweatshop Workers a Livable Wage or Benefits! How Else Would I Make My Billions?

Recently, Taylor's team filed to trademark the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical" after Taylor said during Paris N1 of the Eras Tour,
"So you were the first ones to see The Tortured Poets at the Eras Tour...or as I like to call it, 'Female Rage: The Musical'."
This trademark petition was filed last week on Saturday, and news comes about just as numerous unofficial fan-made merch designs have cropped up with this phrase plastered on Fruit of the Loom basics. I'm of the opinion Swift's team motioned for a trademark so that they can send out cease & desists to all those that make knockoff merch, which disrupts potential sales for Bravado, UMG's choice merchandising company; however, since it was filed earlier, perhaps Swift has bigger plans with the bizarre use of the gendered phrase. One Swiftie referred to the phrase "female rage" as "a funny Eras Tour joke". Could it be a possible fourth version of the Eras Tour Movie? Whatever the reason, the motion to capitalize off of such a concept is disgusting, but not unsurprising, for a woman that profits on her vain feminism.
Swift, through her company, TAS Rights Managements, has also trademarked over 200 phrases, including "1989", where she owns the property rights to this calendar year on keychains, phone cases, sunglasses, stationary, bags, beverage ware, clothing, entertainment services, your subconscious, and, of course, Christmas ornaments.
The vapid consumerism in Swiftie culture is, frankly, disgusting. Bravado's sustainability statement is non-existent, the quality control is abysmal, and the materials they use are horrible. The materials, such as acrylic and polyester, are made from petrochemicals. This means they are non-renewable, shed microplastics, and are quite toxic in production. The manufacturing process to make all of those lazy-rushed Eras Tour logo graphic tees is a huge blow to environmental well-being. Apparently, though, Swifties don't give a fuck. They sell out products in seconds and either have to face the manufactured scarcity or buy from a scalper that resells for 200% of the already ridiculous retail price. This doesn't include the environmental impact of vinyl records, CD, and cassette production, of which Taylor produces many variants that sell unsustainable amounts.
If we're talking about women's rights violations, why is no one acknowledging the women that work in the inhumane sweatshop conditions that have to pump out fugly t-shirts and hats? The millions of plastic microfiber dander they are inhaling, or the toxic dyes that touch their bare skin? Are they being compensated fairly for their skilled labour and are they in safe working environments? Do these women have minimal bargaining power, and do they have authority over their worker's rights? Is Taylor Swift female raging at their injustices? Does Taylor Swift ever feels bad that her wealth was built on the backs of women of color, disadvantaged by the demands of the global economy and garment industry? Do you think she ever says a little white feminist prayer for them before she goes to sleep at night?
What's even crazier is not that Taylor herself doesn't care, it's that Swifties don't care. There CANNOT BE ethical billionaires. You only make a billion dollars if you are exploiting other human beings for capital gain. Based on public perception of the possible "Female Rage: The Musical" trademark, it seems like Swifties are already asking for merch with this phrase. "If Taylor made it, I'd buy it." Oh, cool. So not only do you champion Miss Swift's avarice and billionaire status, but you also are unashamed to admit to your blind consumption of her music and merchandise, no matter where they might originate in production or sincerity. Just as Swift takes and takes and takes, Swifties' consumerism of Taylor Swift cannot be quelled.
The tortured artist's most vulnerable and sincere poetry...available now in 21 different versions!

I Am Tortured Poet, Hear Me Whinge

Look - even if Taylor's intention is to characterize TTPD as more "tortured" and "angry", the main thread of the album is "I was ghosted by my decade-long situationship with a controversial indie boy and my fucking stupid fans wrote a 'Speak Up Now' open letter prompting me to drop him" anger, which is adequately expressed in the lyrics and performances. The extent of Taylor's "female rage" on TTPD is on tracks such as "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?", which contends with relentless media scrutiny; "But Daddy I Love Him", where Swift firmly states she'll date whoever she likes no matter how "Sarahs and Hannahs" may react; and "The Albatross", a track mythologizing her reputation and the consequences of dating her. Of course, these coincide with deep psychological wounds that formed during Swift's early years in the media, and so, from her feminist perspective, these subjects tackle the misogyny and double standards that she faced.
Yet Taylor Swift still has no grounds to be claiming that TTPD best exemplifies female rage and therefore she, in the context of this album, is female rage incarnate. As the daughter of a stock broker and mutual fund marketing executive, Taylor was born into wealth and allowed privileges like trips and subsequent relocation to Nashville all so that she might get a record deal. Her father even invested at least $120,000 into the then-fledgling label, Big Machine Records, which ensured Taylor's place with Borchetta after leaving her dead-end development deal with Sony. The fact that her parents were able to buy her a fucking brand new guitar for Christmas and pay for music lessons says so much about the financial security and safety of her childhood.
Money is privilege and protection, and despite Swift's experiences with misogyny and loser boyfriends, she does not know what female rage is.
Her rage is derived from her frustrations with her obsessive fans pulling the moral superiority card on Taylor in response to her rebound with Matty Healy. That's literally it. She's just pissed that the monster she created is no longer obediant, it's become a feral, sovereign entity that depletes the world of its natural resources and thinks it is more intelligent than it actually is because it's mommy has started to talk to it with big words. Apparently, 'illicit', 'elegy', 'nonchalant', and 'precocious' are considerably big words for the oafish monster, and I find it strange that this level of literacy is present in a group of fans that allegedly have GPAs of 3.5 or higher, but I digress.
Taylor Swift has never been one paycheck away from destitution. Taylor Swift has never experienced racial discrimination. She may have instances of gender discrimination, but she possesses the ideal white, blonde American beauty standard and therefore reaps the benefits of being a conventionally attractive woman. Taylor Swift has sufficient social capital. Taylor Swift is a billionaire woman prolonging her victimhood though she, as a woman, has mostly had control over her image and music (unlike her contemporaries). Taylor Swift is NOT entitled to be championed for her "female rage", nor should she be. Taylor Swift has never even been the struggling artist, for fuck's sake. I don't give a fuck if she's trying to fill the empty lunch tables of her past. Taylor Swift purporting herself, her unpolished album, and her lukewarm feminism as a musical bleeding with female rage is asinine.

Sigh Try and Come For My Job, Poors

Out there in the world right now is a 23-year-old woman, a recent college grad, who works as a barista. She has to wake up and get ready to go into a minimum wage job because she cannot get a job in her field. She doesn't have healthcare benefits or sick time, so she has to go into work no matter how she's feeling. All day long she is berated by vicious customers and creepy men, and, exhausted from being on her feet, she knows she has to go home to her shitty roommate that never does the dishes and her roommate's shitty dog. To comfort herself, she considers getting a treat, but thinks against it when she remembers that matcha lattes cost $15 and they taste like milky dirt. She knows that she needs to buy groceries this week, and so the woman resolves to go home, but notices that her gas tank is low. She goes to put gas in the car, but the pump stops at $27.86 because that's all that she has in her checking account. The woman, bereft and reeling, sinks into the driver's seat. "Well," she thinks, her head in her hands, "at least I don't have Taylor Swift's job. I just couldn't imagine."
Fame is somewhat of a choice. If at any moment Taylor feels that she is misunderstood, misconstrued, or overwhelmed by public opinion, she can LEAVE the public eye - Lord knows she has the retirement fund and residuals to do so. In "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart", the TTPD song about meeting the demands of your career-zenith mega-tour while in the relationship trenches, Taylor ends the song by rambling,
"You know you're good when you can even do it with a broken heart...you know you're good...and I'm good, cause I'm miserable, and no one even knows!...try and come for my job."
Yeah, obviously we wouldn't know, you recently passed the billionaire threshold and are the most famous and in-demand performer in the world right now. Taylor Swift makes an estimated $10 to $13 million dollars A NIGHT on the Eras Tour. Furthermore, the Eras Tour movie grossed $261.6 million globally, (which, as the producer, Taylor takes home 57% of the ticket sales) not counting the streaming revenue from Amazon Prime Video and the estimated $75 million deal that Disney paid to have it on Disney+. We're not even considering the income from cheap plastic popcorn buckets and drink cups plastered with colored squares in her Era-specific likeness.
It's funny. Taylor Swift often said that being famous wasn't hard, that she "isn't complaining". I'm sure it is difficult to always have to present in a good mood, else you'll end up misrepresented in the media, and I'm sure it's invasive to virtually have no privacy or semblance of anonymity. Still, Taylor Swift shows up each night of tour and performs. For a majority of her career, she has penned her sad songs while on the road. Most of "Red", her breakup album, was written in the thick of the Speak Now World tour. Now, some Swifties say they almost "feel bad" for attending the Eras Tour with Swift's revelations in this song, that they have had a 'dimmed experience' upon hearing Taylor's misery whilst performing. Despite the fact that Taylor said that "this was the happiest she's ever been" at Gilette Stadium in May, the lyrics "boohoo, woe is me, smile for the cameras and make the fans happy!!!" are jarring for Eras attendees.
While Taylor Swift was making double-digit millions a night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and feeling miserable, Ana Clara Benevides Machado passed away due to heat exposure. The concert promoters, Time For Fun, are now the subject of a criminal investigation due to their lack of adequate hydration and safety. Taylor Swift cancelled the Sunday show that was to follow and offered VIP tent tickets to Benevides Marchado's family, which was a kind gesture, but perhaps incongruous to the incident of which they were offered as consolation. Everyone grieves differently, of course, but I'm not sure attending the very show at the very same venue that my daughter or sister passed away in two days prior, where the singer CONTINUED the show despite her death, would be healthy for closure.
There was no female rage at the show as Swift never saw Benevides Machado pass out. There was no female rage towards the disregard for fans as humans while Swift elected to proceed with her Brazil tour dates despite the country being in historic heatwaves (at risk of overheatting herself). If Taylor Swift was so shaken by touring with a broken heart or a fan's passing, she wouldn't have added an additional North American leg of Eras just two months after the Matty breakup. She's brokenhearted but willing to mend the cracks with your money and move onward with her worldwide female rage induced pillaging.
No matter what happens, even if you die at a Taylor Swift concert, Taylor collects a big fat check and flies away. She doesn't know you as anything other than a conversion rate or earning potential despite what her nearly 20-year long parasocial relationship with fans might otherwise indicate. She knows that, while some Swifties are without disposable income, they feel obligated to spend on a "48 Hours Only!" exclusive vinyl variant instead of necessities because they are so entrenched in Taylor Swift's intoxicating celebrity, they'll prioritize materialistic fandom before their needs. This is good enough for her because this means she can expand her real estate portfolio and finance her cat's lavish lifestyles. They're worth an estimated $100 million dollars. Her three cats could pool their net worth and solve world hunger.
While you and I might be denied bereavement leave and barely surviving the current political and economic climate, Taylor Swift has to, instead of gets to, perform for stadiums at full attendance for three nights in a row across the globe. You and I might be replaced by AI at our longtime jobs, but Taylor Swift is threatened with losing more and more money each time you listen to a "Stolen Version" of her songs. If we don't buy every variant of all of her albums, then who is going to pay for the fucking cats?
It is tone deaf to spend as she spends and lives as she lives in this economy, but this is her reality. She was able to donate $100,000 to all of her tour truck drivers, and that's wonderful, but it leads me to wonder about the ethos of the 2020s where one woman can hoard such life-changing amounts of money. Remember in 2014 when she gave a fan $90 ($120 in today's money) to get Chipotle because she had no fucking clue how much it cost? This is a 34-year-old woman who is increasingly out of touch with the reality for working class people and women in general. Normal everyday adults must wake up and go to their thankless jobs, and yet Taylor Swift, despite all her riches, incessantly references the lows of her life and career as a public figure and entertainer to farm sympathy and drive sales. And still, the corporate women have latched onto "I cry a lot, but I am so productive! It's an art!" as their cubicle battle cry.
Do you think that, from up in her private jet, Taylor Swift gazes at the world through her poetic, tortured eyes, and thinks, "All the little people, in their cars, walking, going about their lives...all those girls that don't support girls...do they know that I've made an album about female rage?"

Conclusion/TLDR

Thank you for reading. I would love to hear your critical insights towards this entire ordeal: TTPD, the trademark, the implications of it all.
TLDR: Taylor Swift is a bad feminist and is delusional to think that the TTPD eras set exemplifies female rage at women's injustice.

Something a bit different...
Techwear is the name of this style.
Techwear is the assortment of technology that you can wear, hence the name. Technical fabrics and ergonomic designs that benefit the user in a multitude of use cases conditions. Waterproofing, Nylon, Dryskin, 3M insulation and coatings. Transformable garments aswell like a pair of pants that can zip-off into shorts or a capre cut like the ones I have here or a jacket that can fasten around you with a strap instead of you carrying it and being hands free. Futurism is also a popular aim for this aesthetic aswell but like me you can take it any which direction you like. Wanted it to be more calm, wide and classyish today.

2024.05.12 12:52 Rough_Ad392 Making it work

Not sure the best way to explain all this, but I thought it might be interesting to someone.
To not make this too long, I’ll explain my internet scenario briefly. Christmas '23, I was left with no internet. City Fibre had left me with a failed installation, and my previous ISP wanted a ridiculous amount to activate the existing line, guaranteeing only a 6mb download speed. I was left with not many options. However, as a goodwill gesture from Plusnet, they gave me an EE SIM card. So I went on Amazon and bought a TP-Link Deco 4G router, popped in the SIM card, and had decent Wi-Fi around the house.
My next step was to figure out if it was even possible to play my PS5 through it. I had some old power line adapters and gave it a go. This seemed to work fairly well, and I was able to play some Call of Duty and a load of Helldivers 2.
Now I really wanted to push it, and I’d been following the PS portal. As a Sony fanboy, I really wanted one but knew it would be way beyond the reach of what my 4G router could handle. I waited to see if I could pick one up slightly cheaper and managed to find one on eBay for £160 (open box).
Now for the true test. Could I get the portal to run smoothly using a 4G router (capped @ 100mbps) and a power line adapter to the PS5? The result was absolutely not. For context, I wanted to be able to play the portal downstairs in the lounge, the PS5 is upstairs, and the router is in the kitchen next to the lounge. The signal was great, but unfortunately, it just wasn't strong enough to hold a decent connection. It would connect, but the image was beyond awful, and it would keep losing connection with the console.
As a last resort, I thought I’d try out a cheap Wi-Fi booster and plug it behind my sofa in the lounge. I couldn’t believe the difference it made. The signal was rock solid, and I was able to play with only minor quality drops. I know this is a long-winded way of explaining it all, but I spent months scrolling through Reddit trying to find an answer to my problem, hoping that there was someone in the same position as me who was struggling. I’ve included a list of all the components below :) Happy Gaming ✌️

2024.05.11 00:33 Wavesmith What do you do with all the random toys?

I don’t mean stuff you bought them, or stuff they saved up for.
I mean the random little things you get in party bags, random little toys people give them, stocking stuffers, stuff that comes free with magazines or happy meals, the empty snail shell they named, the ribbon they saved from Christmas etc. etc.
We have SO MUCH of this stuff and I don’t know where to store it or how to get rid of it. It’s getting out of hand.
My kid is three and gets kind of attached to these kinds of things, for a short time. I feel like I can’t just chuck them out behind her back and she’d never agree to throw stuff away.
What do you do with it all?!

Chritmas (Gothic Christmas)

Merry Chritmas (Gothic Element)

Chritmas offers a fascinating blend of gothic and spooky elements with traditional Christmas and Yule traditions, centered around "Chrit Ghost," the gift-giving ghost. Here's an extended concept incorporating these themes:
  1. Chrit Ghost:
    • Chrit Ghost is a spectral figure cloaked in midnight black, with glowing eyes with moose skull and a hauntingly kind demeanor.
    • Instead of Santa Claus, Chrit Ghost is the benevolent spirit who visits homes on Chritmas Eve, leaving mysterious gifts under shadowy Chritmas trees.
  2. Decorations:
    • Gothic-inspired decorations adorn Chritmas trees, with dark ornaments like miniature coffins, black roses, and silver spiderwebs.
    • Candles flicker in eerie candelabras, casting dim, flickering light reminiscent of old haunted mansions.
    • Wreaths made of dried black roses and thorny branches hang on doors, adding a touch of macabre elegance.
  3. Feast of Shadows:
    • The Chritmas feast, known as the Feast of Shadows, features dark delicacies like blood-red velvet cake, roasted black garlic potatoes, and mulled wine with a hint of cloves and cinnamon.
    • Tables are draped in midnight blue and adorned with candelabras, skull-shaped goblets, and tarnished silverware.
  4. Chritmas Carols:
    • Carols take on a haunting tone, with lyrics that weave tales of ghosts, witches, and ancient mysteries. Songs like "O Come, All Ye Spirits" and "The Haunted Bells of Chritmas" set the mood.
    • Musicians play eerie melodies on violins, harpsichords, and haunting flutes, adding to the spectral ambiance.
  5. Chritmas Eve Rituals:
    • Families gather around a crackling fireplace to tell ghost stories, sharing tales of apparitions, restless spirits, and mysterious happenings.
    • Children leave offerings of dark chocolates and dried fruits for Chrit Ghost, hoping to receive ethereal gifts in return.
  6. Gifts from the Otherworld:
    • Chrit Ghost leaves gifts that reflect the gothic and mystical themes of Chritmas, such as antique pocket watches, spellbooks filled with secrets, and enchanted crystals.
    • Handcrafted items like gothic jewelry, leather-bound journals, and ornate masks hold special meaning in this ethereal exchange.
  7. Yule Traditions:
    • Yule celebrations intertwine with Chritmas, incorporating ancient pagan customs such as burning Yule logs, decorating with holly and mistletoe, and honoring the rebirth of the sun.
    • The Chritmas tree becomes a symbol of life and renewal, adorned with symbols of nature, magic, and the cycle of seasons.
  8. Spirit of Chritmas:
    • Chritmas embraces the beauty of darkness and light, blending gothic aesthetics with the warmth of togetherness, generosity, and the joy of sharing stories and traditions.
    • It's a time to honor the mysteries of the night, the spirits of the past, and the magic that surrounds us in both the seen and unseen realms.
Chritmas, with its Gothic and spooky twist on traditional Chritmas and Yule customs, invites us to embrace the enchanting shadows and mysteries that lie beyond the veil, celebrating the beauty of the unknown and the timeless spirit of giving and connection.

  6. Decorate (Optional):
    • Once the cake has cooled, you can dust the top with powdered sugar for a snowy effect, adding a festive touch to your Chritmas cake.
Slice and serve your delicious Black Cranberry Chritmas Cake as a delightful dessert for your Chritmas celebrations. The combination of dark flavors and tangy cranberries is sure to be a hit!

Cobweb Tree Topper (DIY)

A Cobweb Tree Topper for Chritmas adds a spooky and gothic touch to your holiday decor. Here's how you can make one:
Materials Needed:
  1. Black or dark-colored wire
  2. Black feathers or faux spider webs
  3. Small plastic spiders or spider ornaments
  4. Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  5. Black spray paint (optional)
  6. Wire cutters
  7. Ribbon or string for hanging (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Create the Base:
    • Using the wire, shape a cone or pyramid structure to serve as the base of your cobweb tree topper. You can start with a smaller cone and gradually widen it as you go up.
    • Secure the wire pieces together using hot glue to form a sturdy base.
  2. Add the Cobweb Design:
    • Take the black feathers or faux spider webs and drape them over the wire structure. You can create a cobweb-like pattern by crisscrossing the feathers or webs in a random, intricate manner.
    • Secure the feathers or webs in place with hot glue as needed to ensure they stay attached to the wire base.
  3. Enhance with Spiders:
    • Attach small plastic spiders or spider ornaments to the cobweb design using hot glue. Place them strategically to create a creepy, crawling effect on the cobweb tree topper.
    • You can also add some larger spiders crawling down the sides of the wire structure for a more dramatic look.
  4. Optional Spray Paint:
    • If desired, you can spray paint the entire cobweb tree topper with black paint to give it a darker, more uniform appearance. Allow the paint to dry completely before proceeding.
  5. Attach Hanging Mechanism (Optional):
    • If you want to hang the cobweb tree topper from the tree, attach a ribbon or string to the top of the wire structure using hot glue. Make sure it's securely attached and can support the weight of the topper.
  6. Place on Top of the Tree:
    • Once your cobweb tree topper is complete and any paint or glue has dried, carefully place it on top of your Chritmas tree. Ensure it's balanced and securely attached to the tree's tip.
Your Cobweb Tree Topper for Chritmas is now ready to add a touch of gothic elegance and spooky charm to your holiday decorations. It's sure to stand out and create a unique focal point for your Chritmas festivities.

Creating a Festive Candle Centerpiece

Add a touch of elegance to your holiday table with a festive candle centerpiece. Start by choosing a beautiful tray or platter as the base for your arrangement. Arrange candles of different heights and sizes on the tray, mixing and matching colors and styles to create a visually appealing display. You can also add other elements like pinecones, ornaments, or fresh greenery to enhance the festive feel. Light up the candles and watch as they illuminate your table, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for your guests.
Another idea for a festive candle centerpiece is to use a clear glass vase or jar as the focal point. Fill the vase with water and add floating candles in different colors. You can also add some cranberries or small ornaments to the water for an extra festive touch. Place the vase in the center of your table and surround it with fresh greenery or small decorative items. This simple yet stunning centerpiece will definitely spark joy and impress your guests.

Enhancing Your Mantel with Candle Decor

Make your mantel the focal point of your holiday decor by incorporating candles. Start by choosing a variety of candle holders in different heights and styles. Place them on your mantel, spacing them out evenly. You can also add other decorative elements like garlands, ornaments, or small figurines to create a cohesive look. Light up the candles and enjoy the warm and cozy glow they bring to your living space. For added charm, consider using scented candles that will fill your home with delightful holiday fragrances.
To create a more dramatic effect, you can also use candle sconces or wall-mounted candle holders. Install them on either side of your mantel and place candles of varying heights in each holder. This will add depth and dimension to your mantel decor, creating a visually stunning display. Don't forget to trim the wicks and keep an eye on the candles to ensure safety while enjoying the enchanting ambiance they create.

Adding Warmth to Your Tablescape with Candles

Set the mood for a cozy and intimate gathering by incorporating candles into your tablescape. Start by selecting a tablecloth or runner in a festive color or pattern. Place a long, rectangular tray or a series of smaller trays down the center of the table. Arrange an assortment of candles on the trays, mixing and matching heights and styles. You can also add natural elements like pinecones, berries, or sprigs of holly to enhance the holiday theme.
For a more formal tablescape, consider using taper candles in elegant candle holders. Place them in matching pairs along the center of the table, creating a symmetrical look. You can also incorporate candlesticks or candelabras for added height and grandeur. Light up the candles just before your guests arrive and let the warm glow create a welcoming and festive atmosphere. Your tablescape will surely impress and spark joy.

Creating a Cozy Ambiance with Candle Clusters

Create a cozy and inviting ambiance in any room of your home by creating candle clusters. Choose a grouping of candles in various sizes and shapes. Place them together on a decorative tray, a rustic wooden board, or even on a bed of fresh greenery. You can also add other elements like pinecones, acorns, or small ornaments to the cluster for extra visual interest.
When arranging the candles, consider using odd numbers for a more pleasing aesthetic. For example, group together three candles of different heights or five candles of the same height. This will create a sense of balance and harmony in your decor. Light up the candles whenever you want to create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere in your space. The soft flickering light will instantly make your home feel warm and inviting.

Incorporating Candle Lanterns for a Magical Glow

Add a touch of magic to your holiday decor with candle lanterns. Choose lanterns in different sizes and styles to create visual interest. Place them on your mantel, coffee table, or even hang them from your porch or patio. Inside each lantern, place a pillar candle or a cluster of smaller candles. You can also add decorative elements like pinecones, dried flowers, or colorful ribbons to the lanterns for an extra festive touch.
When using candle lanterns outdoors, be sure to choose lanterns that are weather-resistant and can withstand the elements. Place them along your walkway or in your garden to create a whimsical and enchanting atmosphere. Light up the candles as the sun sets and enjoy the magical glow they bring to your outdoor space. Whether indoors or outdoors, candle lanterns are a beautiful addition to your holiday decor.

2024.05.07 11:02 Einstein-Jr Unite Snapshots

We should start to utilize Unite snapshots to the fullest.
As a solo queue supporter, the last thing that i want is to support a Master carry with horrible gameplay. Since getting to Master is just a matter of time and is not skill-based (i'm sorry), we need to find a way to give privileges to high-quality players. That's when the Unite snapshot comes in.
The best thing that we have now is the Season Stickers (since most stickers are just decos). If you have these, please put it in your snapshots. Getting to a 1600 rating is not that hard (i think) but the sticker should help differentiate who to trust, visualizing the quality of the player before the match even starts.
Don't get me wrong, this is not perfect. At the very least, we have something to rely on (and there are also battle ribbons that are so hard to get but that's a different story).
In any way, i still love the concept of Unite snapshots that work for both casual and professional players.

I’ll start this with a huge apology. It was never my intention to take so long on my break or to post a thank you for all the amazing mail you’ve been sending. A few months were super… not stellar, and I just kind of wanted to hide under a rock so I wouldn’t bother anyone until I could feel a bit more like myself, and with all of that, you guys have just been the sweetest. I got so many sweet messages checking in and felt so loved despite the fact that it’s taken me half a year to get back on here. Thanks for all your patience with me. You guys are the absolute greatest! <3
An additional thanks to u/pinkpengin for sending a card basically inviting me to come back to the cool kid’s table to play this week! :D
Allsssooo also, I wrote half of these in January if any of them are odd, and I’ve also not detailed the cards that have been sent to family members as I didn’t read them myself, just added them on my count here, and sorry if the formatting is a bit wonky. I'm copying this from a document, so I might edit if it's terrible.
To start, I received a fun Meet-Up card from some now irl friends on here! Thank you guys! I really wish I could have made it to this one:
u/lonelytwatwaffle (x3)

u/JaimeKJ
u/kittycatcon
u/babyraspberry (x6), You sent such happy mail with your world postcard day envelope! I love the picture of a beach in Portugal. It makes me want to take a vacay ASAP! I also loved the fun little fact you put about the Peach Springs, AZ USPS! So cool! You also included cute star cut-outs, a little packet of stickers, and washi on what looks like a fun space cat playing card! I’m seriously giddy to get to the pic!
Thank you so much for the sweet hot cocoa and New Year’s card you sent! You also included a pretty saguaro cactus card and lovely pastry scrapbook paper, because you’re so thoughtful like that! I love how pretty every single envelope and card is that you send! I’m also excited to hear that you’re getting settled into the new(er) place a bit more! I hope you had a great time with the family visits!
Oh, my goodness, the wintery cards you sent my way were just stunning! I really liked hearing about your walk on the frozen lake and what an adorable “Cake of Friendship” recipe! The stamp stickers are always just the perfect colotheme, too! It always gives me heart eyes!
u/bluedecemberart (x5), Your Halloween card was adorable! You made it even cuter with the stickers. You mentioned “catching up on mail someday”........... Lol! You sent me about 50 cards to my…. ahem… completely non-existent ones. You’re a treasure, friend!
Thank you so much for my massive care packet of cards in an envelope that was just the cutest, with cats and Totoro stickers! It was beautiful! Every single bit in the envelope was so thoughtful!
You sent a “You’ve Got Mail” postcard, which reminds me… I should rewatch that movie someday so u/comingtogetyoubabs can stop laughing at the fact that I mix up all the Meg Ryan/Billy Crystal movies. I can’t be the only one… or maybe I am?!
You also sent the cutest envelope and added little address cardstock labels to add some zest to my envelopes along with so many cute stickers of cats, dogs, and squirrels! So sweet! I really loved the “Support Your Local Librarians” sticker! We are so lucky to live close to a very nice library with super active librarians who really care about the community, and it breaks my heart that they’re being given extra nonsense to add to their worries right now. :(
I especially love the card that has “You can do anything! Just not Everything” on the front. What a perfect reminder. You are so caring and thoughtful, and I’m so thankful for you!
u/comingtogetyoubabs (x5) How do you always find the perfect cards and things to say?! I love the whole envelope filled with citrus-themed cards, stickers, washi, all of it! Your puns were cracking me up! You even made the address label with little lemons! Super cute!
Then you also sent cards that were bee-related and stickers galore! I’m pretty sure that’s the first cat bee return label I saw in-person! They are adorable!
You sent a fun fall card with such pretty watercolor animals on it! The little hedgie sticker matches perfectly! It’s giving me heart eyes! Thank you, m’dear!
u/constructionlower549 (x7) Ugh, your holiday postcards are always so cute! I love the pic with you and the pupper (both smiling) on the front! It’s seriously so sweet and happy! I also loved the sweet card you sent with the New Year’s plans/updates. It’s seriously been entirely too long since I’ve sent an update! I definitely agree… Christmas is a bit overwhelming for me every year, tbh. I always look forward to the New Year knowing that we’ve made it through another hectic season of cooking/visits/everything! XD I always feel like I drop so many balls and last year was one of the biggest times I’ve done that. I didn’t even send holiday cards last year. :/
What a cool Starbucks postcard! I had no idea they even had postcards, but I love the gold and white on this one! The sparkly purple pen you used on it is just chef’s kiss perfection! Thank you!
I loved hearing about your bday trip! It sounds like such a fun adventure! I know you mentioned you did a lot of HUGE things, but I saw, “hung out by the pool,” and for some reason that part was the bit that I was like, “WHOA! WHAT?! IN FEB?! …living her best life by going somewhere beautiful!” XD
Then I got the most cards (I really, really love the hydrangea ones) with backstories from some of the postcards you sent! <3 I loved hearing about your dog-sitting adventure! Ugh, I need to send you a recipe for ice cream when you’re there next time! It’s blueberry pie-flavored, and it’s basically the only one I make in the summers, though I haven’t made it for a few summers now. I was laughing at the “behind-the-scenes” stories from your trips! It’s so funny catching up with people from school, especially when they’ve become parents! It almost feels like a secret club sometimes, knowing things about them but only discussing it in front of kids basically in code language! XD Oh! You asked at the end… I think the postcard lady would definitely be the highest contender for my demise! Lol! I’d totally take an entire litter of rabid cats over her! :D
u/cswl (x6), Thank you for the lovely Halloween card with the glittery witch skirt and the little cat on a walk! So cute! Our cat actually loves taking walks on his harness, but it’s been too cold to go out with him recently, and our old sweet old man of a dog thinks it’s a bit of a pain to go out on big walks now too. Can’t wait for spring! (I wrote this part of your thank-you in January! Spring has been nice indeed!)
The school supply postcard is so cute! I love LouPaper designs and the little rounded edges! The bright rainbow colors on it is just so happy! <3
Such a great “M” card made out of mustaches, too! Very cool design!
What a cool Veteran’s Day card you sent my way! I haven’t seen very many for the holiday, so it was super fun to get one! Thank you!
I also liked your secret “Walt Whitman” card. I have been wondering how work has been going for you. I have done some “extra” work tidying myself at old jobs when I’ve been feeling less than good about them myself.
It was also fun hearing about the 2 festivals in one weekend… was super happy you didn’t have to cook that weekend! That’s kind of a mini-vacation in itself!
u/DoraDoodle (x4), You sent such a pretty Halloween card as well as such adorable cats in costume stickers! They were so sweet! You even finished off the card with a tiny skull and crossbones stamp on the back. Your attention to detail makes everything so perfect! I always love seeing how you perfectly coordinate the papers to make such nice designs!
We all loved your gorgeous handmade Christmas card! It was displayed with the ones we received from family! I definitely missed out on the fun and didn’t send a single holiday card last year. :(
Oh, my goodness, I loved getting your beautiful watercolor card from your trip. That is actually one of our family’s bucket list places! Were you able to catch the Northern Lights while there? I hope you were treated with a lovely view!
u/ez330 (x4), I loved the colorful tulip card you sent and hearing about what had been happening with you. Thank you for checking in with me! You also included such sweet stickers, one of a corgi cupcake that I absolutely adore! Our dog is red with the cute Dorito ears like a corgi, so I’m a little partial to those types of breeds because of him! <3
Oh, my goodness, how was your trip to the National Postal Museum?! My grandma was a retired postmaster, and I think she would’ve loved traveling there! I hope you had the best time!
I loved getting your sweet flower heart postcard too! Thank you so much for caring and sending notes my way. You’re so thoughtful!
What a gorgeous handmade Valentine’s Day card! The light aqua blue with red were actually my wedding colors, so every time I see them together, it just makes me smile! Thank you for thinking of me! It made my day!
u/isar-love, I loved your dragonfly postcard! I love learning differences in language and I really think “dragonfly” is much prettier in yours! My son has a book about bugs from close-up views, and the dragonfly picture is on the cover! I always thought that photograph was especially pretty! He’s terrified of bugs now, unfortunately, but every time I see a dragonfly now, I think of when he first asked if they were actual dragons as a preschooler, and I thought it was just so cute!
u/Jdoodle7 (x4) Thank you so much for sending such sweet cards my way to check on me! My birthday card was just so pretty, and I really like how you did the washi on a diagonal. It really set off the envelope! You even have birthday return address labels, and I just absolutely adore them!
I have out another card you sent recently, the one mentioning Monty Python! Oh, my word! I am so excited to meet someone who gets my references now! :D Poor E, I had to introduce him to it years ago when he mentioned he’d never seen it (can you believe it?!), but now he grudgingly chuckles or rolls his eyes when I quote it in passing!
u/jvanct88, Thank you so much for the super pretty I’m thinking of you card with a holo cat silhouette! I loved getting the life updates! Just so you know, I can’t use the tea you sent because the little packets are so cute! Oh, they’re in with my tea, yes, but only for showing off the cute designs on display! :) Thank you! <3
u/korewrites (x2), thank you for the postcards you’ve been sending my way! I liked hearing about your travels to visit friends. The place you went in January sounds particularly exciting! I hope you had the best time catching up with them!
u/libertyprogrammer, thank you for the lovely card with the super fun stamps on them! What a good idea to send it before the price increased (again), too! The stickers match the pretty dusty rose color of the envelope and I love how you made the card inside with such cute Snoopy washi! It is so good hearing from you! Oh, I might have mentioned in the last post, but I have finished all of your book recs, and I was absolutely blown away by one series in particular! Kind of bouncing up and down over the fact that a certain author has new author pics!!! Did you see?! I know everyone online is saying not to get our hopes up, so OF COURSE MY HOPES ARE SKY HIGH that we get a new book ASAP! :D I can’t believe there are some people who have been waiting for decades when I’ve only been excited for a few months!
u/LeeElla, thank you for the sweet card with the cherry blossoms and cute washi and stickers! I loved getting to hear about your travels. I feel like my family and I will start doing a small bit more of that this year finally, and I love hearing where others have been!
Also, your writing is lovely!
u/lonelytwatwaffle, I loved hearing about your beach trip! What a nice getaway! My family took trips there when I was little. I think it was maybe the first time I saw the ocean! It sounded like such a nice, relaxing time! I hope you had a blast!
u/mikepenpal6 (x5) I loved your purple Halloween card with the pumpkin and owl! What pretty scrapbook paper in the background, too! You always find the most festive and adorable carding supplies!
What a gorgeous handmade Christmas card! I love how glitzy it is with the little rhinestones and all the cute stickers and washi you used! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Ooh, I loved hearing about the concert you saw! That would’ve been so incredible! I’m super jealous and also really excited that you could go! I saw that one of my faves is going to be about 2 hours away from me very soon, so I went on the ticket site to buy them. E said that I definitely should, but I told him, “Meh, it’d be way past my bedtime.” lol I’m such an old lady now.
Your handmade Valentine’s Day card was absolutely stunning! I always love seeing the cute little gemstone stickers ppl use! I actually didn’t do a ton for this Valentine’s Day. I usually bake for our littles, make them a heart-shaped pizza for dinner, and cook something for E that he likes, but this year, our tiniest got covid (on my birthday! boo!), so we were all sick by Valentine’s Day, and we basically stayed at the house for the rest of the month to make sure we didn’t spread the joy to anyone else. Yuck! I really am glad you were able to do fun things and enjoy the weather with the family!
u/mlks00 (x2), Thank you so much for the sweet Christmas card you sent to the fam and me, especially with the handmade snowflake! How cool! I feel like I haven’t done those in too long. Have you seen the ones you can print online with Star Wars characters snuck into the designs?! They look so cute!
I always love getting your check-ins and updates! I really like this “hello” card stationery too! How classy! I hope you’re doing well, friend!
u/monetmonkey- Oh, what an adorable avocado holiday card! Thank you! Not only that, but you included such cute stickers with a sweet fox and snowy day scene! I loved all of it as well as how you decorated the inside of the card with the diagonal washi. Such a cool effect!
Of course I loved the fun stamps, especially the Maine Coon one! Our kitkat isn’t quite as massive as that, but he’s close, at over 7.5 kg/17ish lbs!
Loved the way you addressed the envelope vertically, too! It really made it stand out!
u/mydinosaurdidit (x8) You sent such happy mail to me last FALL (it’s been way too long since I’ve been here), and it was just so touching that you thought of me for it. It’s beautiful, thoughtful, and I was so taken aback at your generosity! Know that I have it set out for my next project now! I’ve been waiting to make something with it for the summer, and I’m so excited! I’ll send pics when I get it finished! I’ve had a pattern I’ve been wanting to make, but I’ve not had the right materials…until now, and the fact that it’s sentimental is just the cherry on top!
Oh, you gave me ideas for my bullet journal by sending me a sample-type page, and I really like how you have it set up! I’ve been book journaling a bit more lately and still use a bullet journal for my busier months, but I’ve been converting most of the dates to a wall calendar and still using a bullet-style on there for the tasks. It’s so helpful!
What a pretty holiday card you sent with tea and everything! I loved the adorable little paper stars to match the color of the font, and the message made me laugh!
I got the sweetest check-in card from you, typed and everything. It made me a bit teary-eyed. You even included journaling pages and stickers. You are so thoughtful, friend. A few months there were super not super, and I just kind of wanted to hide, and there you were telling me it was okay to just exist. You’re an absolute treasure. <3
Then you sent a kitty postcard with “You’re alive!” on it, and I burst out into laughter! It made me think of Schrödinger's cat, and it just made me ridiculously happy on top of it just being so freakin’ adorable! Thank you, friend!
Such a cool state card you sent! I like the ones with the different flowers/flags/birds on them to see how many I remember from my fourth grade class! :D We visited our state capitol building (where I lived growing up) during school, and the only part I remember was being so nervous that I’d be too loud walking around the halls with the echo-y marble floors… and then I suddenly stopped fretting over that when I realized how slippery the stone made the stairs and imagined falling down them making way more noise than walking funny ever would. XD I was a nervous child… glad I’m not anymore….ummm :D
Thank you for the sweet birthday wishes as well! You handmade a gorgeous pop-up card with a rainbow quilt, and it just blew me away!
The second (!) kitty postcard you made with all the rainbow writing/washi/stickers was just so happy! It made me smile!
u/onelittlericeball (x4), thank you so much for the gorgeous cards you send! I always love seeing your handwriting and the pretty washi/sticker combos you use!
I really liked getting updates on things that have been going on with you lately. It's so nice hearing from you, and I have your latest in my "reply ASAP" stack now!
u/pinkpengin (x7) The fam loved our cute black cat purpley Halloween card! The Halloween donut washi you have is top notch!
Your Jane Goodall Institute card is so cool! She’s one of my heroes (as are you, of course)! I actually bought this little amigurumi book where you could make little feminist icons, mostly because one of the characters is her! I digress… Okay, so as of that card, you had 22 kitters… have there been any more foster fails since then (bc I can absolutely say I’d be such an enabler about that! I nearly got another one myself last month)?
Oh, what a cute little fox riding a bike! I think these notecards are just adorable! You absolutely did not need to write a thank-you, but of course you’re just super sweet and thoughtful like that, and it made me smile! :)
Your sweet holiday card was displayed with the family cards we received this year, and it was so cute! Thank you! We all really enjoyed it. Maybe I’ll get my act together by winter and send some myself this year?! Here’s to hoping!
You also sent such a sweet Valentine with two additional mini cards inside! You are so thoughtful. The envelope was so pretty with how you decorated it! I think Valentine’s Day might be my favorite holiday… I don’t really do anything to celebrate other than baking, but I think that’s maybe why I like it! It’s low stakes! :D
You also sent an extra special holiday card VERY recently… but I’ll be commenting on that one elsewhere. ;)
u/TigerLady13 (x4), I really loved the Christmas card you sent! The stamps were so cute on the envelope, and the Santa in the woods feeding apples to the horses were so just so pretty! Thank you so much!
You have been sending such sweet cards my way! Thank you! My birthday cards were so super sweet. Both were decked out with the cutest washi and stickers galore! You are so very thoughtful! I really like the envelopes! They both had ribbon streamers on the insides of them! How festive!
u/travel4me22, thank you for the fun Blue Ridge Parkway postcard saying hello and checking in! That was so thoughtful! I hope your year has been great so far!
u/umeshufan (x14!) Your pop-up llama card (so cute!) along with an additional note was so cute to get! I really liked the signatures that you and a family member added to it! It was from 15 Nov, so I had the biggest smile reading about a recent event that happened there! <3
The Christmas card you sent made me laugh! I’ve seen shirts with that sentiment on motorcycle drivers, and to see it on the back of a reindeer was just the absolute best! XD You find the most hilarious cards! I definitely need to up my card game!
Thank you so much for the beautiful cards from all your travels over the past 6 months as well as sending notes to other family members! You have been to so many places already this year, and it’s always fun getting to live vicariously through your descriptions of each place!
The NZ sheep postcard is adorable with the little sheep, and I loved hearing about each stop along the way. The “Where’s Wally/Waldo?” one is extra cool! Thank you for sharing it with us! You’re always so thoughtful!
Oh! One of the cards you sent from NZ had another person added to the card, and I don’t know if I’m mentioned, but I think their handwriting is just beautiful! I especially like their A’s! That was so sweet hearing from them as well!
During one of your trips, you were in the same time zone as I was, and I was so excited to get FOUR cards from there! It was so fun getting cards that arrived so very quickly! I always love seeing The Snooty Bookshop cards! They’re hilarious!
You also sent 6 cards just last month, completely putting me to shame! I have them out for a reply just as soon as I pick up some different cards from the store. I think part of my extra long hiatus has made me not want to dig out the perfectly fine old cards I had but start fresh… capitalism at its finest, I suppose… :/
Thank you for sending so many cards to the family over the past half year as well. Your cards always brighten our day! You’ll be getting some replies from E soon, too. He’s not been on RAoC recently either, so I’m adding some of his on my post for him.

2024.05.04 02:08 Trash_Tia There is something wrong with the Setori family.

There is something wrong with my family.
When I walked through the door after spending two days at a slumber party, the house smelled of… bacon.
Holy shit.
Mom was actually cooking dinner.
Which was crazy because Mom never cooked dinner.
She was either at work, locked in her home office on the ground floor, or in her room complaining of a migraine.
We never ate Mom’s cooking because she never cooked for us.
My brother Fitz once joked she would cook us an Excel spreadsheet, or throw her iPhone in the air fryer to make a stew.
He was almost right.
A few months ago, Mom microwaved her iPad.
We weren't really an eating together type of family. Sure, we had the white picket fence and family SUV.
We greeted our neighbours every day with nuclear family smiles. Mom was the head of her book club on her days off, and Dad worked in an office. From the outside, we were your average Brady Bunch. My best friend had even commented on it. “Ruby, your family is so close! I wish mine were like yours!”
Close couldn't have been further from the truth.
Keeping up appearances is all we had to do in front of the locals.
I smiled my biggest smile and wore my hair in a perfect ponytail.
Fitz and Cassie followed suit, playing their part as nuclear children.
That is what Mom wanted us to be. However, our dollhouse wasn't as perfect as perceived. Inside our so-called forever home, we were a disconnected group of lodgers.
Mom barely spoke to us, and when she did, she was enforcing yet another rule.
Don't go into the living room unsupervised. Don't go into the basement. Don't eat food outside of the kitchen. Don't wear your shoes inside.
Mom had different rules tailored to each of us.
For me, I wasn't allowed electronics after 8pm.
Fitz, who was one year older, had a set curfew of 9pm.
Cassie could only eat fruit and vegetables on Wednesday.
Snacks, candy, and chocolate were banned for all of us.
We weren't even allowed to sit on the living room couch. Mom was terrified of us ruining it, so we had beanbags.
When I first got a whiff of bacon, I was convinced either our house was burning down, or my brother had finally gotten tired of his Uber Eats diet.
Fitz wasn't a cook, though.
Christmas 2019, his turkey dinner gave us all food poisoning.
I was slipping out of my shoes and hanging up my jacket, when a familiar voice tinkered from the kitchen.
“Ruby, sweetie? I’m making dinner if you're hungry!”
It smelled amazing, whatever it was.
I was in disbelief, walking into the kitchen to find my Mom standing over a bubbling pan.
“Can you set the table, honey?”
Fitz and Cassie joined us, followed by Dad.
“Smells good, Mom!” Fitz jumped into his seat with a grin.
Which was definitely odd for him. Normally, the guy took 5 working days to sit down.
Cassie slid past me, ruffling my hair. “Hey, sis!”
My family were acting different in general. Cassie was unusually smiley, not the bratty teenager she usually was, while my brother dropped his patronising smirk and I'm better than you attitude, for a more laid back vibe.
Usually, my brother and sister were insufferable.
Cassie always had to bring up how much she hated all of us.
Fitz wouldn't rest until he had the last word, and Dad’s face was beet red.
Now, it was like they'd had a personality purge.
Fitz caught my eye, his lips curling into a smile.
“Yo.” He saluted me with two fingers, which was not my brother.
Fitz Setori greeted me with a scowl or a pretentious movie quote.
Before I left for the slumber party, he wouldn't shut up about a black and white French movie only he had seen. If Cassie and I liked a movie, he hated it. If he liked something, Fitz made sure we didn't like it.
My brother’s wardrobe was like he was trying to cosplay Sherlock Holmes, and I still didn't understand how he had friends at school. The thing with my siblings was, I missed them. It used to be the three of us versus the world (and our dictator-like mother). But since starting high school, Fitz had turned into this pretentious film freak with an obsession with being right, and Cassie was sixteen going on twenty one.
Presently, my brother’s demeanour was more relaxed, not the stiff uptight bullshit he usually was, always trying to get ahead of the conversation and prove himself right. In the corner of my eye, I could have sworn something flashed, a bright light filling the edges of my vision, like a polaroid was being taken.
Fitz didn't notice. Leaning over the table, he stabbed his fork into my steak, speaking through a mouthful of mashed potato. “Are you eating this?”
I shook my head, watching in disbelief as he took my whole plate, inhaling my food too.
Cassie, who was always glued to her phone, gave him a playful shove.
Well, that was weird.
The two of them couldn't go one day without trying to rip each other's heads off. I don't know what baffled me more.
Seeing my siblings sitting together, shoulder to shoulder instead of avoiding each other like the plague, or the fact that Cassie was yet to announce that she hated all of us, and couldn't wait until college. Which usually followed with Fitz saying, “What college?” and ending up with a face full of food.
But it didn't end there.
Because, when they were sent to their rooms, they continued, snapping at each other with passive aggressive remarks until they were physically trying to murder one another. The craziest part is, the two of them used to be so close.
If Cassie didn't throw a death threat at Fitz, it wasn't a normal Seteri dinner.
Now, I was watching them nudge each other like they knew something I didn't.
“Okay, what happened while I was away?” I spoke up, toying with my fork.
“Hmm?” Mom settled me with a smile. “What do you mean?”
I bit my tongue, waiting for Dad to intervene with a cough.
When we did eat together, which was rare, Dad wasn't a fan of talking at the table. When I risked a look at him, though, Dad was happily chewing through his meal. He caught my eye, grinning through steak juices running down his chin. “Isn't it a wonderful day?”
He nodded for me to continue, a crunching noise twisting my gut.
Dad was grinding through the steak bones.
He stopped, slowly inclining his head. “Ruby, are you okay, darling?”
I felt my fingers tighten around my fork.
Dad never called me darling.
He made it clear I wasn't the favorite child, making little effort with me when I was a kid in favour of Fitz and Cassie.
It was always those two who he spent time with. I remember sitting outside the basement door with cookies, waiting for Cassie and Fitz to come back up the stairs. They were down there for hours, sometimes a whole day.
The only bonding I did with my father was when I snuck down there myself.
Dsd was always working, so I stuck around, usually spinning around in his chair or poking things I shouldn't poke.
I was still struggling to process darling, mashed potato creeping back up my throat, when Fitz kicked me under the table. His smile was unnerving me, the way he and Cassie kept grinning at each other, like they knew something I didn't.
It was just like when we were kids.
Fitz was trembling, trying and failing to hold in laughter.
“What's going on, Ruby?” He choked, before bursting into childlike giggles.
Cassie joined in, her smile stretching wider and wider.
Something ice cold trickled down my spine.
Too many teeth.
“We never have dinner together,” I said pointedly, glancing at Mom. “Unless you're impressing a work colleague.”
I turned to Fitz. “You barely come out of your room, and when you do you're insufferable.” Fitz only smirked, and I moved onto Cassie, who wasn't fooling me with her innocent smile with far too many teeth. “And you only come downstairs when you want something.”
There was a pause, before Fitz exploded into laughter.
Cassie started giggling, and to my confusion, even Mom was trying to hide her smile.
My rule obsessed, fun-hating mother was barely holding in her own hysterics.
Dad wasn't laughing.
Dad was still fucking grinding bones between his teeth.
I stood up, which made my brother howl harder.
“What's so funny?”
My family didn't respond, snorting like middle schoolers.
I snatched my plate up from Fitz.
“You're all fucking sociopaths.”
I waited for the inevitable chastising for swearing. I stubbed my toe a few weeks ago, accidentally saying, fuck and Mom almost had a nervous breakdown.
She said my vulgar language was a problem that would be solved by taking away my phone for a week. But this time, Mom didn't even notice. She was still eating, stifling her own snickers.
I was planning on heading to my room, but I couldn't help it, making a detour down the hallway.
Dad always told me to look at the teeth.
Too many teeth was bad.
Too many teeth meant something was wrong.
Mom immediately noticed, her shadow following me.
Another flash of light behind me, and this time I could hear a shutter sound.
“Ruby, where are you going?”
Twisting around, my mother was smiling at me. I blinked, and the hallway I had known my whole life suddenly appeared warped, like it wasn't real, like it was slowly closing in on me, and my destination was getting further away.
With panic rising in my chest, my hands searched for a door that was no longer there, bleeding into the wallpaper. Another flash. This time it was brighter, filling the dark with light that didn't make sense, a blinding white blur fraying the edges of my vision.
But where was the camera?
“Ruby.”
I blinked again.
Mom was standing closer, her smile wider.
“Is there something wrong?”
I found my voice. “What was that light?”
Mom did a slow head incline, mimicking my brother. “What light?”
I was growing progressively more paranoid, my hands shaking.
“Is someone taking photos of me?” I whispered.
Mom’s plastic grin didn't waver. “Photos? What do you mean, sweetie?”
I managed to shake my head, pushing past her.
“Nothing.” I said, “I'm okay. I'm just tired.”
Mom nodded, and I could hear Fitz giggling behind me.
When I looked, however, there was nobody there.
Still, my brother’s shrieks of laughter followed me all the way to my room.
Only stopping when I slammed the door.
4:01am.
There was a figure standing in my doorway. I thought it was a trick of the mind, but no, there was someone standing inside my room, peeking through their hands. For a disorienting moment, I was frozen. I couldn't move.
“Fitz?”
When I sat up, I was blinded by that same light, the unmistakable sound of a camera shutter filling the silence.
The figure didn't have a face, a shadow hanging over my bed. But looking closer, it did have wide, laughing eyes peeking through its fingers. Keeping my gaze glued to the figure, who was very slowly uncovering its eyes like playing a game of peek-a-boo, I reached to switch on the light.
The shadow ran away, though I definitely saw my brother’s dark red hair.
I didn't sleep well that night. I kept waking up.
The laughing had stopped, but I could still see Fitz’s unmoving shadow.
His feet under the door.
All night.
Obviously, I called him out on it the next morning.
“What were you doing last night?” I demanded, trying to force down toast.
Fitz acted oblivious, because of course he did.
What did I do?” he teased, wearing that smirk I wanted to carve off of his face.
“You stood outside my door all night!”
Fitz chuckled into his glass of juice. “You caaaaaaan’t prove it.”
Mom was yet to get ready for work, eating cereal from the box.
She was halfway through a bottle of wine when I came down for breakfast, laughing hysterically at a refrigerator commercial.
Usually, my mother was gone before I woke up. Not to mention, we weren't allowed to eat cereal for breakfast.
It was always health food crap.
“Mom.” I gritted out.
Cassie was making coffee behind us, joining in with the theatrics.
My sister hated coffee.
“Mom!” I yelled, when my brother winked at me.
Mom ignored my complaints, kissing the rim of her glass. “Be a doll, and go get Mommy’s favorite vino from the basement,” she downed the rest of her wine, tipping her head back and blowing strands of hair from her eyes.
“You know,” she sighed, “The expensive one.”
“Don't you have a job to go to?” I glanced at my phone. “It's almost eight.”
“Mmm.” Mom rolled her eyes. “Maybe later.”
My workaholic mother who went to work with gastritis, and had even forced Fitz to go to school with the flu, was acting like a drunken teenage girl.
Mom’s whole life revolved around perfect attendance.
She scanned our report cards for tardies, threatening our phone privileges if we were a minute late for class.
Suddenly, I was the one who felt like a mother.
“Mom, you need to go to work.”
“Yeah, Mom!” Fitz mocked my voice, leaning his chin on his fist. “You need to go to work!”
Mom settled me with a patient smile. I thought she would get mad, though she seemed amused. “Mommy wants a drink, darling. Fetch me the wine.”
I nodded, standing up.
Anything to get away from these psychopaths.
My siblings' laughter followed me, once again, out of the kitchen.
Down the hallway.
Before stopping abruptly, when I stepped in front of the basement door.
Reaching out with shaking hands, I grasped the handle.
I hadn't been down to the basement in a while for a number of reasons.
Heading down stone cold steps, I used my phone light to navigate the darkness. I remembered the exact way I used to jump down them as a kid, two at a time, squeezing the handrail tightly.
Sometimes, Cassie joined me, the two of us holding hands.
I recalled the time we used to run up and down the Miller family stairs.
Cassie and I would sing a song, the two of us giggling nervously.
One step, two step, three step, four.
I can hear a human knocking on the floor!
There was no sign of my mother’s expensive vino when I stepped inside the Setori family basement. It was exactly how I remembered it, a single observation bed, my Dad’s desk filled with research. I wasn't supposed to look at them, because it was dangerous.
Instead, I focused on the strange looking machines and rows of metal shelves filled with an assortment of jars.
When he was fifteen, Fitz opened one up.
He didn't tell me what was in it, but he was violently sick for days.
Further into the basement, I could sense their shuddering breaths.
”Do not look, Ruby.” Dad always told me.
But I couldn't help it, risking a glance, the breath catching in my throat.
Five slumped figures, each of them brutally tied back to back under a single buzzing bulb.
My parents’ prisoners.
Riley and Connor Setori with their teenage children Fitz and Cassie, and then of course, the girl who made me.
The reason why I was alive and breathing.
Ruby Setori.
I want to preface this by saying it was never my choice that I became Ruby.
Dad was insistent, and as a kid, I followed my parents.
My family and I were born in a lab as Mimics.
There were three Mimic families, though we were the only survivors. I've only ever known mimicking, and being forced from person to person. It's kind of like shape shifting, but we need human bodies and voices to survive.
Human voices make us real.
My siblings were born after me, but something was wrong with them.
I don't really remember it, but I used to live in a white room with sponge walls.
Fitz and Cassie were in the room next to me. The people in white spoke of failures and more tests, and my brother was so weak, while my sister was spitting up blood. They concluded that their original forms were dying.
A default body for a mimic is a faceless being with no discernable features, a shadow you swear you see in the corner of your vision, what you think is a trick of the mind. With my old body, I could explore the darkness and creep into the corner of any human’s eye. I started to get better. Voices were hard at first.
You have to get the exact tone, and once you have that, you can latch onto the body and brain. My first successful mimic was a scientist named Doctor Carlisle.
His voice didn't make sense to me, but I was able to replicate it and use it to my advantage. When we escaped the lab, my father broke into the Miller house.
I was too young to really understand, but my Mom urged me to mimic their youngest daughter.
Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was a lot more comfortable to mimic.
I spent 8 years being Elizabeth Miller, before we were forced to relocate.
The family we were impersonating were growing suspicious of us, and my brother was getting progressively sicker. He couldn't acclimatise to a body. The Miller son almost killed him, and he only embodied the kid’s voice.
The Setori household is where we struck gold.
Fitz Setori, sitting in front of me, blindfolded, was my brother’s saving grace.
When I was twelve years old, my parents kidnapped the Setori family and forced them into their own basement, immediately stealing their faces.
I remember Ruby Setori sitting cross legged on the floor, her wide eyes filled with tears.
Dad said I had to talk to her to form the connection. When she refused to talk back, my father was forceful.
Our first conversation was me mimicking her sobs, her throaty cries for me to get away from her.
With Ruby’s voice, I asked her questions.
Mom told me I had to talk to her, before the bond was severed.
“What's your favorite color?” I asked, swirling her voice around my mouth.
“What did you do to my family?” Ruby squeaked.
I looked at my dad for help, and he shook his head.
“Ask her again.”
I took a deep breath. “What is your favorite color?”
“Pink.” She whispered.
“Pink.” I repeated, leaning closer.
“Please.” Ruby said. “Please don't hurt me.”
“Please.” I said, clinging onto her tone, the exact indentation in her speech.
She cocked her head, and I did too.
“Please don't hurt me.”
“I'm not going to.” I told her, when the invisible ribbon binding us together tightened, entangling. This time I was speaking over her. My face became Ruby Setori. Thick brown hair and wide eyes, lips parted in a silent cry.
“I promise I'm not going to hurt you.”
Ruby stared at me like I was a monster.
She shrieked, stumbling back, only to be forced back into place by my mother.
Dad told me mimicking had three stages.
Voice.
Body.
Mind.
I already had Ruby’s voice, and I was wearing her face.
Her memories hit me like a tidal wave, warm and cosy.
I saw her perfect family, all of her friends, growing up behind a white picket fence and a fluffy dog called Cosmo. Ruby liked orange soda and ice cream. She was smart at math, but got her words mixed up. She loved elephant plushies and the Disney channel.
The human girl was scared of the dark, scared of what lurked in the dark.
Scared of me.
I wanted to tell her I wasn't a monster.
“Ruby.” I whispered, “I'm sorry.”
She didn't move, and something slimy erupted up my throat.
Ruby’s expression was frozen in terror, her mouth slightly open, eyes wide.
“Ru… by.” The girl’s voice was a strangled cry. “I’m… s… ooooorry.”
I lurched back, swallowing a cry.
Ruby Setori was mimicking me.
Which was the final stage.
I went through it as a little kid, but I was too young to remember assimilating with Elizabeth Miller.
My brother's assimilation was different, and a lot more brutal.
Fitz Setori did not want to have his face and voice stolen.
He escaped four times, attacking my mother, despite her wearing his own Mom’s face. My brother was gentle, kneeling in front of him and speaking in soft tones. My sister and I watched from the corner of the room, too scared to go near the unpredictable human boy.
“Hello.” My brother was too sick to stand. “Can you… tell me your name?”
Fitz spat at him.
“Fuck you.” The fourteen year old hissed, “You're not taking my voice.”
“Fuck… you.” My brother mimicked, already taking hold of the boy’s tone.
Fitz shuffled back. “Get away from me!”
“Get… away… from me.” My brother copied.
His nose wasn't bleeding this time, and very slowly, he adapted Fitz’s face.
It took a while, and a lot of screaming and crying.
I didn't want to watch, but I was also curious about how human children were supposed to act. I was never in a stable body enough to fully adapt to emotions. Fitz was feeling panic and fear and anger, all of which I decided to copy.
But my brother did manage to mimic Fitz Setori.
Mr and Mrs Setori begged my parents to let their children go.
But my dad needed the Setori kids. For our survival.
Cassie and I sang another song, this time to block out the screaming.
My family took over the Setori household, and slid into our roles as the not quite perfect family on the quiet suburban street. Growing up, Dad insisted on daily tests to make sure our bonds with the Setori siblings were still intact. We were forbidden from talking to them.
Presently, I couldn't stop myself.
There was something wrong with my family.
And I had zero doubts the family had something to do with it.
Dad had drawn a line on the basement floor.
We were acquired to stay behind the line, unless we wanted to be grounded until college.
Stepping over it, I shivered, my bare feet grazing warm blood pooling across the floor. Mom and Dad were always protective over the basement. They told us the Setori family were safe and unharmed. But that was hard to believe even my parents resented humans for creating them, and torturing them.
What my parents did to the human was a whole other level of torture.
Especially the adults.
Mr and Mrs Setoti had been in a medically induced coma for almost four years. Their heads were bowed, plastic tubes sticking directly into their skull.
Cassie Setori was awake. I could hear her breathing.
She was pretending to be out of it.
Fitz Setori had been fixed by my father a year ago.
Dad said his behavior was too ‘dangerous’.
One minute the boy was screaming and threatening, and the next, he was silent, drool seeping down his chin, head tipped back, blinking at the ceiling.
The fixing was in case Fitz ever managed to gain control of my brother.
When I crouched in front of the Setori siblings, I felt a deep, twisting guilt eating me up inside.
They were barely human anymore, stripped of their terrestrial bodies, atoms and static and a shadow of what once was. The blood made me nauseous, splattering their arms and legs and clothes they were growing out of.
Ruby’s hair was almost at a Rupunzal length. I wanted to see the good in that, maybe call her a princess, though maybe she was more of a Sleeping Beauty, forced into slumber.
Fitz had aged way beyond his age, bearded like his father.
Cassie’s pigtails were touching the floor.
I pretended not to see the restraints cruelly binding their wrists, the burn marks branding them as ours.
The three were skeletal, pale and malnourished.
Humans who were anything but.
My stomach twisted when I peeked under Cassie’s blindfold.
Her right eye was gone, scooped out of its socket.
Dad didn't have to hurt them.
He didn't have to tie them up.
But I know what humans are like.
They are scary and unpredictable and will murder their own kind.
I did try to talk to them before Dad fixed the Setori son.
Fitz, Cassie and me.
The Setori siblings told us we were dead.
That they were going to kill us slowly, an painfully.
By slicing their own throats.
Fitz tried to argue that it wasn't us who did this.
Only for his original to call him a piece of shit.
Ever since then, Mom put a lock on the basement door.
I was trying to loosen Ruby’s ropes, ignoring my father’s earlier warning, when a familiar light filled the room.
A camera flash.
When I stumbled to my feet, I was alone.
A giggle caught me off guard.
It was Ruby Setori herself, her lips split into a grin.
“Can we play a game?” She asked.
Her voice was made of static, barely a whisper.
The girl wasn't supposed to have her voice.
My voice.
I held my breath. I had to be tactical with my speech.
“What did you do to my family?”
“I have a better question,” she said, growing stronger. She lifted her head. I could hear her straining against the ropes. “What's your favorite color?”
“Pink.” I said. “What did you do to my family?”
In the corner of my eye, I detected movement.
There was something at the other end of the room.
Twitching.
“What about your favorite TV show?” Ruby asked, leaning forward. “You must have one. Maybe it's even mine!”
It was hers, and she knew that.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” I said, my mouth filling with blood.
Just like Dad said, our bond was severing.
If I continued to talk to her, I risked detaching from her completely.
Ruby Setori wanted her voice back.
“I love Buffy!” The girl’s smile was, dare I think, genuine.
“How about we talk about your brother? Is he doing okay, Ruby? Is he acting…“
She paused, sucking her teeth. “Kinda weird?”
Upstairs, I could hear Fitz’s laughter getting louder and louder.
“Please.” Ruby was mimicking her younger self.
Even blindfolded, I could see the gleam in her eyes.
“What did you do to my family?”
Her words forced me into action.
I prodded Fitz Setori, only for his head to hang.
Unconscious.
There was dried blood under his nose, a slimy ooze of black.
Prying open his mouth, I checked his teeth.
Too many.
Just like Cassie, a whole new row of spiky incisors were pushing through.
Dad was hurting them.
He was torturing them.
Turning them into something.
My quivering hands found a needle sticking into the back of his head, colorful wires protruding into his skin.
There was a clear fluid being pumped into the three of them.
If Dad was experimenting on the Setori family, was it affecting us too?
“Well?” Ruby demanded, her voice twisting, contorting into that of a monster.
“What did you DO to my FAMILY?”
Instead of answering her, I forced my legs to move toward the movement on the other side of the room. There was something piled on the floor, jerking in sharp movements, a slimy mess of inside out flesh. It hit me when I was closer.
The bodies entangled with each other, some of them headless, others missing arms and distinct facial features, were me. Dozens of Ruby Setori’s both made of buzzing static and terrestrial flesh, covered in a slimy, blood tinged substance, like these things were being born. Not made.
I think I was sick. All over myself.
Another blinding flash hit the corner of my eye, and in front of me, another thing was slowly forming, first static, growing into skin, a body moulded and sculpted into existence.
This Ruby had no eyes, no arms, her limbs contorted like doll pieces. I was aware I was staggering back, slipping in what looked and felt like part of a placenta.
The Setori siblings were making copies of me.
My gaze found one singular version of me who was almost perfect.
Except her enlarged brain expanding Through the skull.
And these replicas were getting better by the minute.
“Ruby!”
Mom shouted from upstairs. “Did you get my wine?”
I left the basement, my heart in my throat.
Upstairs, my brother and sister were giggling.
And downstairs in the basement, the Setori siblings were laughing harder.
Three nights since I spoke to Ruby, and the copies of me are getting better.
One of them managed to walk upstairs yesterday.
I think the siblings are slowly making another version of their sister.
I want to talk to her. I want to know what she's doing to my family.
But I can't talk to her.
If I do, I lose Ruby Setori.
Mom and Dad play peek-a-boo with me every night.
They're behind every door, their hands covering their faces.
Cassie is eating meat raw from the refrigerator.
Fitz is getting better at crawling under my door.
And the laughter in the basement is getting louder.
Please help me. I'm so scared of my own family.
I don't think the Setori’s were my parent’s best choice after all.

2024.05.02 02:18 AnonymousKitsune2043 Father Christmas

Im in a D&D game where I managed to get the Cursed Technique “Father Christmas”, a technique that allows for slight reality manipulation as long as it’s Christmas themed. Some of the things my character will be able to do is simple stuff from Ribbon crossbows and wrieths shields to summoning Christmas shikigami like the 9 raindeers, elves, gingerbread soldiers and even krampus. I was wondering if you guys would be kind and generous enough to give me some ideas for techniques I could do.
I already have a DE planned called “Overtime at Christmas Eve” and like mentioned before I have a magnitude of shikigami, but I still want more than just shikigami since my Dungeon Master told me that I could do so much more than just that.
Another ability my character has is that on Christmas Day he gains a power akin to Idle Death Gamble’s jackpot.
