On a rainy Saturday afternoon not so long ago when internet connection was fluctuating in most homes, the 80-year-old Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, widow of the late Senator Heherson Alvarez, carrying a mini iPad, hurriedly alighted from a three-wheeled pedicab Toktok and stormed her way into a popular coffee shop in a mall in Manila.

A senior citizen in panic mode, she told the stunned baristas she’s looking for a Wi-Fi connection because she was about to interview retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio via Zoom.
The coffee shop, a known world brand, has Wi-Fi exclusive to its employees, so the old lady was told to try other establishments. She went from one coffee shop to another only to be told the same, until a kind stranger led her to a well-known beauty salon with a free internet connection.
The lady salon attendant was very accommodating to the octogenarian, even typing the password on her IPad. Of course, she needed to avail herself of their salon services. Initially, she opted for a haircut, but since she needed to talk and hear clearly who she was talking to, she settled for a foot spa with pedicure.
“They lowered the volume of the piped-in music, and since there were less customers because it’s been raining all day, I was able to do my interview,” Guidote-Alvarez said.
For the next half-an-hour, the hair dressers and manicurists working with their scissors, nail clippers and cuticle removers on their customers’ hair and fingernails, listened to Carpio and Guidote-Alvarez discussed how Filipino fishermen and the Philippine Navy ships helplessly negotiate their ways in Scarborough Shoal amid the territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
“They were all very nice to me. I was able to finish my interview, with newly pedicured nails,” she told The Diarist.
For those who’ve worked with Guidote-Alvarez, her steadfast, almost stubborn, nature to accomplish a task, is nothing out of the ordinary. She would improvise, find alternatives, call up friends and former students, wake them up from sleep, just to get things done.
But now, in her 80s, legally blind and nearly deaf, she has mellowed down.

In her twilight years, Guidote-Alvarez has been solely hosting the 57-year-old Radyo Balintataw on DZRH, one of the oldest radio stations in the Philippines, where she tackles a wide range of topics, from climate change, women’s health, theater, culture, dance, to current issues, apart from playing old recordings of classic radio plays she produced and directed, dating back to the late ‘80s.
She shared with TheDiarist.ph how she started and continues to host one of the longest running advocacy programs on AM Radio.
Theater on TV
After founding the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) on April 7, 1967, or exactly 57 years ago, Guidote-Alvarez thought of the need to expose PETA’s members to television, so she started conceptualizing Balintataw, which in Filipino means the pupil of the eye, but in a larger context has something to do with having wild imagination, or what you might see if you have a third eye.

“I designed Balintataw as a bridge between cinema and the stage, where the youth being trained in theater skills can have a ready-made laboratory experience linked with the film and entertainment industry that would likewise have a natural on-the-job training and orientation regarding the theatrical discipline of working with a literary script, whether dramatic or comic—not the regular improvised script done on taping or copycat scripts from foreign themes,” Guidote-Alvarez wrote in her yet-to-be published Memoir of a Freedom Fighter’s Wife.
“A primary goal when I conceived PETA was to initiate and sustain artistic expression that draws meaning and power from the lives of the people, and sharing the literary gems with a greater number of audiences through a Broadcast Theater-Film Program with Balintataw on Channel 5,” she added.
“No matter how little the pay, at least it provided our local writers with a little honorarium. I sought permission for award-winning pieces of the Palanca Playwriting contest to be fleshed out to reach the masses. The much-awarded playwright Bert Florentino served as our literary manager, assisted by Mauro Avena. Eventually, Isagani Cruz took over when Bert left for the US,” she wrote.
“Writers need exposure and encouragement through a regular TV performance that will give them a sense of achievement and inspire them to keep on writing with some kind of honorarium. I was glad Lupita Aquino (now Kashiwahara) agreed to be TV director and Robert Arevalo as TV host.
She got members of the PETA Kalinangan Ensemble to serve as stage directors. “This is to undertake preliminary preparation with a rehearsal with the actors for character development and memorization and preliminary staging,” she wrote.
Five months after PETA was founded, Balintataw TV premiered on Channel 5 on Aug. 19, 1967, coinciding with the Buwan ng Wika birthdate of President Manuel Luis Quezon.
The first play, whose title escapes her now, featured Armida Siguion-Reyna and Maria Eva “Chingbee” Kalaw. She employed photo journalist and award-winning photographedocumentarist/cinematographer, Romy Vitug, to work with her in filming outdoor scenes for Balintataw.

In the pre-Martial Law Balintataw, among those initiated into television were Lino Brocka, Elwood Perez, Nick Lizaso, Maryo delos Reyes, Mario O’Hara, Joey Gosiengfiao, Behn Cervantes, and Frank Rivera.
Among the stage actors who crossed over to television were Lily Gamboa, Angie Ferro, Lorlie Villanueva, Jonee Gamboa, Joy Soler, Sherry Lara, Gardy Labad, Noel Trinidad.
Like with PETA, Guidote-Alvarez directed and managed Balintataw for five years. Because of Martial Law, she and husband Heherson went on exile in the US to escape a military shoot-to-kill order on Heherson, who was tagged as a subversive.
Post-Martial Law
Internationally acclaimed auteur Lav Diaz mentioned in several interviews how he learned writing radio and TV scripts in Balintataw.
This happened in the late 1980s, when the Alvarez couple returned from exile.
Despite its absence on the air in the Martial Law years, Balintataw was honored by Star Awards as among the 20 unforgettable outstanding broadcast programs in the Philippines.
“This encouraged me to consider reviving Balintataw on TV. Another blessing was a FAMAS award for having an important role in the development of cinema recognizing Balintataw as a bridge for synergizing cinema with the stage, providing a pathway of entry of our PETA artists into film and for movie stars to consider enriching their experience by acting on the legitimate stage,” Guidote-Alvarez wrote.
Though she didn’t return to PETA anymore because it had been surviving well and had its own set of officers led by Brocka, she just tapped some of its members for the return of Balintataw.

Channel 4 stint
“I arranged to revive TV Balintataw on Channel 4 in 1989. We began with a drama about a rebel returnee, title escapes me now, but I clearly remember it was written by Lualhati Bautista and directed by Maryo de los Reyes. We also had a good story series on the hazing of Lenny Villa, an Aquila Legis Frat neophyte,” she wrote.
At the time, Heherson had been elected senator after having served as Agrarian Reform Minister and eventually Cabinet Secretary during the first year of the Cory Aquino Administration.
“We were able to unravel the deadly hazing process from a fellow neophyte who broke the code of silence as we revealed graphically, acted the cruel process used. I had Jose Mari Avellana direct it. This presentation won all the awards. Lav Diaz was training with us and he started writing teleplays. We also had Nora Aunor in an adaptation of Bert Florentino’s The World Is An Apple, adapted by Frank Rivera, and I had Nick Lizaso direct.”

Emmy Awards
Balintataw TV was selected as one of five soaps for social change recognized by Emmy Awards. The Philippines was one of five countries cited, with Mexico, India, Brazil and Kenya.
“The nomination was made possible by the wonderful support from David Poindexter. It was a supreme honor for our country to be recognized in the Emmy Awards, to be cited among the five Third World countries using soap opera for social change.”
Poindexter was a Methodist minister and TV producer who founded the Population Communications International.
Surviving on radio
“In spite of the cry about how television can be deadening the minds of the people with copied themes with an eternal favorite love triangle story, there was really no funding for Balintataw,” she wrote.
“Sponsors would go naturally to the commercial stations where big stars were paid highly for the starring role. Balintataw may have substance but we could not afford payment of bankable stars,” she added.
“Financial stress forced me to drop TV and remain on radio because I didn’t want to kill Balintataw per se just because we didn’t have funds.”
Creative classroom
“We have focused on Balintataw as a creative classroom on the air. I was able to talk to Fred J. Elizalde of DZRH and the president of the network, Mr. Jun Nicdao,” she wrote.
In the ‘80s, the HIV/AIDS became a global epidemic and in the Philippines, the general populace was still clueless on how to deal with it.
“In order to get funding, the first series I did was about the explosive news regarding AIDS in Asia. I got the DOH Secretary at the time, Dr. Juan Flavier, to act as himself, providing the data. It was easier to start off with an AIDS radio serial.
They did a minimum of 13 episodes to raise awareness about the disease.
“From then on, some of our television scripts we transformed into a radio version. DZRH provided us with our initial production staff, so we used some from the network and some of its resident artists and drama talents. Our time slots were changing but always coming after the long-running horror drama, Gabi ng Lagim.
“We worked on the themes of overseas workers, the drug problem, corruption, aside from portraying contemporary and literary classics serving as social commentaries,” she wrote.
Women playwrights
“We dramatized the works of noted women writers and playwrights like Estrella Alfon, Genoveva Edroza Matute and Marilou Jacob, who is distinguished in being a founding president of Women’s Playwright International.
“Apart from our PETA staple of writers, we involved young, upcoming and budding university and community theater groups.
“We also had a lot of foreign plays, where we could feature theater festivals beyond borders. We could do Shakespeare, we could do Euripides but also the current playwrights in the Arab region we translated in our language.
“We brought in Chinese contemporary plays, Malaysian, Indonesian and from other women writers from ASEAN member countries.”
Virtual history book
“The significance of Balintataw is portrayed as a virtual history book on audio as it unveiled events in the country. Radio is fresh, instant and up-to date,” she added.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Balintataw became Guidote-Alvarez’s outlet and therapy. Having lost her husband on the second month of the pandemic, a widow cocooned at home, she began hosting it six days a week, learning how to use an iPad and interviewing via Zoom.
The word “Balintataw” has been associated with her name.
Visual artist and editorial cartoonist Benjie Lontoc in casual meeting told us how in his younger days, when AM Radio was a national past-time, he was surprised to hear a Filipino adaptation of No Exit by Jean Paul-Sarte. This was when radio was airing soap, fantasy adventures targeting housewives and children.
Another was the airing of Larawan as a radio play in the 1990s, with Guidote-Alvarez as the voice of Candida Marasigan.

In the 1960s, she directed Larawan, the first Filipino adaptation of Joaquin’s A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino for PETA’s second season. It ran from December 1968 to January 1969 at the Raha Sulayman Theater at Fort Santiago in Intramural. In the cast were Rita Gomez (Candida), Lolita Rodriguez (Paula), Leopoldo Salcedo (Don Manolo) and Dante Rivero (Tony Javier).
Guidote-Alvarez has a funny recollection of the radio play. It was Nick Joaquin himself who told her years ago how his pedicurist suddenly started a conversation about Larawan.

Joaquin was relaxing on the barber’s chair having a post-haircut pedicure and foot spa when the lady pedicurist asked him how the story would end. Joaquin was stunned because he didn’t want to be known in the barber shop as Nick Joaquin the famous National Artist for Literature, but just a regular customer.
“He told me he almost fell out from the chair. He was a very private person and the pedicurist recognized him as the playwright,” Guidote-Alvarez, laughing, told TheDiarist.ph.
When she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, she was given only three years to live. It’s been more than two decades since then. She has also conquered COVID-19 twice.
Over and beyond her work in theater and various advocacies, Guidote-Alvarez is among the few surviving practitioners of AM Radio broadcasting.
The beauty salon incident wasn’t a first for the octogenarian radio host. She occasionally went back there to interview guests and record her shows whenever Wi-Fi connections in her home fluctuated.
Despite all setbacks, man-made or otherwise, the steadfast Cecile Guidote-Alvarez’s voice continues to be heard in this mass media platform in an era that knows mainly Spotify. As Joaquin wrote, “to remember and to sing, that is her vocation.”

My first encounter with the Qabbalistic cross was in Israel Regardie’s “The Middle Pillar”. In it he instructs that it should be performed “Ve Gedula” then “Ve Geburah”. In the footnotes the Cicero’s amend this saying they’re not sure why Regardie did this, as left/right is the exoteric version, the occult being right/left with “Ve Geburah” then “Ve Gedula”.
My first thought was maybe it’s a misdirect (I wasn’t sure who’s exactly, but my instinct said on behalf of the Cicero’s) and the correct way was a secret to initiates. I’ve been practicing for a while now and since the latter version is accepted across the board so I’m tapping into the same current and it’s tried and tested to work, I do it that way.
I was hoping someone here knows and could enlighten me as to what the esoteric logic and reasoning behind going right to left is. The path of the snake goes back up right to left, but the path of the lightning bolt flows from Chesed to Geburah, left to right, so I can see it making sense the other way too.
Also I don’t have the blue book but does Regardie teach it the normal way in there or no?

2024.05.21 11:11 Corgerus Just an overintoxication rant. And a warning to new or upcoming alcoholics.

Twice this week I drank wayyyy too much alcohol. 5 days ago it was a hard soda then a four loko, horrible 2 day hangover and that night was awful... Last night I had a roughly estimated 10 total shots of whiskey and rum, then two additional shots just to try out whiskey i have not tried before. I felt fine after the first 5 ish shots (waited 10 mins after last sip, not even tipsy), then had 5 shots of rum and the remaining two new-to-me whiskey shots. I felt okay, just tipsy 30 mins after the last sip. Within an hour I became horrifically drunk as all the alcohol finally built up...
I had a complete inability to think, focus, look straight, sit, walk, or crawl, and blinking gave me an instant headspin. I was so tired, no energy, not tired enough to pass out but I apparently had slight trouble breathing at some point. While crawling was an impossible task, I dragged myself over to my bed and rolled onto it. Using purely muscle memory I fired up my Xbox and opened YouTube. Focusing was obviously not something I was able to do, I selected whatever videos I wanted to see and just listened with my eyes mostly stuck to the ceiling. Having the audio playing was nice, since a complete lack of controllable stimulation would bore me out of my mind which is worsened when I am drunk. Due to headspins, which is when your vision and balance is swirling around (can be worsened with eyes shut), I could not sleep for 4 hours especially from how sick my body felt. I didn't have the best quality sleep but I slept for 9 and a half hours. The hangover was not as excruciating as what the Four Loko did to me, but I had digestive problems and a lack of appetite for most of the day.
IT IS NOT WORTH GETTING ANYWHERE NEAR BLACKOUT DRUNK! I cannot understand how people even want to be that drunk, I have no fun in not being able to do anything. I like being relaxed or moderately tipsy at most. Hangovers will ruin the next day(s) and potentially make you mentally unable to have alcohol for some time because that sickness is in the back of your mind, subconsciously keeping you away from your favorite whiskey.
In fact, I am at the late stage of my hangover where I am mostly recovered. I took a small sip of my whiskey and the alcohol going down my throat did not feel right, my brain is literally preventing me from drinking any more and I am not intoxicated. I'm going to have to temporarily switch to having lower alcohol drinks like beer and cider until my brain allows me to sip the whiskey.
If you are new to alcohol or are going to try alcohol for the first time, don't immediately try getting extremely drunk as it will ruin the experience. Find tasty drinks that won't fuck you up on their own (of course quantity matters a lot). Ciders, light beers, etc. are a good start. If something tastes bad to you, that's fine as the world of alcohol is seemingly endless. So far I have a handful of drinks I know I like from most categories. Have fun, don't get fucked up, and be responsible.
For those starting out, I like these and I believe they are drinks that most people agree are alright:
Light beers (lagers, one might be ale): Blue Moon (I haven't tried the "Light" version, just the regular), Heineken, Coors Light (bottled or on tap).
Ciders: Salt Creek Ciderhouse "Freedom", Portland Cider Original Gold, Helvetia Cider Oregon Blueberry.
The ciders are local brands, so if you're in Oregon see if your stores have these and give them a try.

It got scratchy if you looked at it funny. So I put some elbow grease into using a scotch-brite pad to take off that coating but left it in the grooves and in the switch track etc. I think it looks 1000% cooler this way but it has been rather heavily modified. Paid 40 plus Tax on Aliexpress, so save yourself 20 bucks and a four week wait.

Blurb: If you’ve spent any time on the Chinese knives Sub you’ve heard of this guy. It was one of those knives that did a few minor tweaks to the original to come up with something perhaps slightly better, like including both front and rear flipper in addition to the hole, and including a longer backspacer. Someone had one tested and I think the verdict is generally that it is M390. Blurb: I threw out the cheap washers that came with the Aluminum Radiation pattern bugout and replaced them with real phosphor bronze washers from USA Knife Maker. The 0.5 cm ones, not the oem .33 cm ones. As a result, the action on this guy is just glassy. At least as good as my OEM bugouts. The narrows I’m throwing in at substantial discount. This is the OK knives version, so it’s not the one that totally sucks, probably titanium scales even (they weren’t magnetic). The real score here is that you’re getting a bugout that definitely has that smooth glossy action which can be hard to find on even an OEM bugout sometimes. Still saving you at least 25 bucks over what I paid for these and no-four-week-wait.

Hey guys! I hope we're all doing well.
The short of it, is that I had a panic attack in rehersal tonight due to some inappropriate comments from others about my physical disability, told my director I didn't feel well, and took myself home. I knew before, as, and after I was doing it that it was not professional, but I wasn't sure what else to do.
The long of it, with some background info first: - I have a physical disability that can be completely hidden when I wear long pants. - The director of this community theater production and I are friends. - I am also friends (but far less close) with the stage manager, who is gone this week. - In past rehersals I have worn shorts, and only a few "are you okay?" "Yeah I'm disabled" "Oh, okay!"s were exchanged and I felt comfortable with all of that. - I have not even gone backstage during rehersal for a reason like this since high school so I am extremely disapointed in myself. - I sprained my wrist recently, removing me from the guitar portion of this scene. - Despite my disablitiy, I am actually a good (and lightly trained) dancer.
The long; I decided to wear shorts to rehersal today because we were running a dance/song tonight. I got to rehersal, my director and I chatted for about half an hour because I like to be there early and most cast does not arrive on time. He told me not to push myself, since I am disabled. I appreciated the sentiment and I know he cares a lot about me, so it made me happy, but it also bothered me because he himself is usually trying to imply in one way or another that I'm less competent because of my disability. (I walk to work, I enjoy running, I go to the gym, etc. I consider myself quite capable.) But, I love him dearly, and I'm used to him, so I really didn't mind.
Once we got going, the fill-in stage manager gave us a lecture to explain tap-ins because since we are dancing, we'll be touching each other. I do not know her well at all and she used me as an example without permission and I find a bit rudely as "something not to touch/be sensitive about/be delicate on" and it disturbed me to have my disability be used as an example in a lecutre about boundaries. I have zero issue with people touching me or my legs, and I felt as though she contradicted that and set a boundary with all the other actors for me to not touch me or my legs, or that I was delicate/sensitive/broken whatever. I'm not injured, I'm disabled.
After we ran the song and dance for fourty five minutes or so, my director asked for people who'd be able to do a difficult dancing thing, and I voulenteered, and one of the other actors, who I barely know at all, said "Well how would that work, with your legs?" And she pointed at me. I told her that I am disabled and can dance, to which my director gave an "oookay", which I'm not sure if was in response to me or her.
By this point I started to feel very uncomfortable, and we went on a break, so I went to the bathroom, did box breathing, and splashed some water on my face. When I came back I had some trouble focusing but I didn't care and chose to keep working. We got on our feet to dance again (we're improvving the whole thing right now with loose instruction) and the actor from earlier and I had danced near each other, so we put our hands together to do the instructed move, and she stopped, her mouth fell open, she pointed at my sprained wrist, pointed at my legs, looked at me, looked back at my legs and then my wrist. She looked like she was gonna make a big show of me so I danced away. When we were done with that run, I walked up to the director, and told him I didn't feel well and needed to go home. He said okay and I left.
I don't want to cause trouble in the show. I hate conflict. I just want my disability not to be gawked at or put on display by others in future rehersals. I won't wear shorts again (even though I have every right.) What should I do to explain myself to my director? I'm okay with what I did but not that I lied in doing it. How do I explain myself without getting these other people in trouble or myself being melodramatic about my disability?
I apologise if this lacks clarity, I'm still not fully cooled off.

2024.05.21 03:10 FJB13 Gluing down solid core vinyl

So my wife picks this tongue and groove rigid vinyl plank flooring to install on our basement floor.
The subfloor is a hot water heated cement slab.
The installation instructions state that it has to be glued down if it is to be installed on top of a heated subfloor. But that’s it, not much more than that.
I emailed the manufacturer to ask what specific type of glue, and their reply was: “ As for glue, any spray or full spread adhesive that is recommended and manufactured for glue down vinyl will be fine for installation. We do not have a specific brand that we recommend.”
I bought TEC’s Flexera’s High Tack glue, but I don’t know if I should do a wet set, or let it set up to push and stick method. The glue can do both.
I can’t wrap my head around gluing down this normally floating floor.
The wet set will be a fricking mess trying to tap and lock the planks together.
The push and stick I have to supposedly use a 100# roller on, but that seems like for the lay flat, really thin, really flexible flooring and not this rigid stuff.
Anyone have experience with this?

For context I am now 17 F but at the time of this I was around the age of 12 or 13. Around this time my family moved into a new state and we were far from all other family. I also have had other paranormal experiences but only one other was this extreme.
Sometime after moving into this new state, we got the news that my grandparents were visiting from Mexico and they were going to be staying in California with my aunt. We barely get to see our grandparents and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see them so we decided to pack enough clothes for a week and drive to California. This was kind of a big deal since we live in the mid south so this was going to be a 2 day drive. Fast forward during our visit to my aunts house in California, My dad discovered that the truck he used to own back in the 90's was parked in her garage. My aunt agreed to let him take it home and he decided he was gonna drive with my little brother in the passenger seat, and my mom, my sister, my baby brother and me were all gonna drive in our other car. On the last day there we packed our stuff and we started our drive in our separate cars. We had been driving for about 5 hours and my dad called and told my mom saying he was gonna pull over to rest because he wasn't feeling well. My mom decides we're gonna pull over at the very next stop we saw even though we were in the middle of the Arizona desert. In the area that we were driving in there was a lot of signs that advertised native shopping centers and like little tour areas. We ended up pulling over in front of a huge canyon were we saw a very old gas station, an abandoned building that said saloon and an enormous tipi. My and my sister asked my mom if we could walk around and stretch our legs and she agreed and said she would come with us. My mom, me and all my siblings are walking around taking pictures and we end up in front of this huge tipi. This tipi had doors like the ones at a regular corner store so we walk in and see it is a whole gift shop. They sold everything from cactuses, wooden toys, bow and arrows, stones, different kinds of sands, traditional clothing, necklaces, like the whole 9 yards. And of course there are natives that are running the store watching us walk around since we were the only ones inside and outside of the store. This place was completely isolated and we really thought it was all abandoned at first but we ended up being pretty amazed by everything they had on display. I ended up walking into the middle of the store were they sold these beautiful dream catchers and I was immediately obsessed. I didn't suffer from nightmares or anything like that but they just looked so beautiful and I had never seen one in person. When we get to the register the lady starts scanning our stuff like normal and she is gushing about how cute the dream catcher I chose is in broken English.Before she hands it to me in a bag she leans over the counter and tells me that I needed to do a ritual to get it started and she could help me if I wanted to, and once the dream catcher was done collecting my nightmares I needed to do another ritual to cleanse it so it could work like normal again. This caught me very off guard and I looked up at my mom who was just as confused as me and she told the lady, no, it's okay, just for decoration. (Also in broken English), and the native lady purses her lips and doesn't say anything else and we walk back to the car. My dad says he's well enough to continue until it gets dark so we did just that and everything was normal until we made it back home. Once I was back home and got settled in, I tried to follow the instructions I could make out from her broken English and hung it over my bed. After that, I began to see things while I was awake. And one day, I had another smart idea to watch this movie on Netflix called Come Play( I think). And in this movie there is this creature that torments a child. A tall bony creature with sulken eyes named Larry. And this specific night, I could not sleep (wow, surprise surprise). I ended up getting so fed up about not sleeping that I got up, grapped my blanket and a pillow and walked over to the couch and lied down facing the door to my bedroom. In my living room there is a movement detecting light thing that plugs into the wall, but it remains dim even if there isn't any movement. So here I was in the dim light looking around, waiting for sleep to maybe even cross through my mind. I'm looking towards the ceiling and my eyes drift to the area above my bedroom door. And I see Larry. No joke. I really can't make this stuff up. There he was just poking his head out of my room. I could only see the top of his hear and his eyes, looking at me. I saw his long bony fingers holding the wall and he is almost touching the ceiling, he is about 7 feet tall and he's just there chillin. If I am being completely honest, I wasn't scared of him. I was mad. I was mad he wouldn't let me sleep, I was mad he had the nerve to show himself after keeping me up and paralyzing me T night I was so angry he wouldn't leave me alone. So look at him dead in the eyes, and out loud I say, "leave me alone, wtf do you want?". He slowly moved his head inside the room without making any noise and I just lay there, so fed up until I end up falling asleep. When I wake up it is around dawn so I go into my own room and fall asleep. What pushed me over the edge was when I had a horrible nightmare that I couldn't wake up from and I was screaming and and shaking my sister awake and she was screaming at me to cut it out and I felt so much despair in that moment that I ended up waking up, just to have another sleep paralysis episode. The second I was able to move I ran out of the room and into my parents room. I told my dad everything I and he let me sleep next to my mom for the night, the whole night i saw a mini Larry walking around the room and staring at me and I began to be scared. I didn't get a wink of sleep and I was beginning to deteriorate in physical appearance. In the morning, my mom storms into my room and tears down all of my red bracelets I had for "protection" any zodiac sign design, any stones and she took one look at my dream catcher and ripped it off the wall. She walked in literally a minute later and replaced it with a cross ( which is still there) and puts a rosary under my pillow. She tells me that's what I get for buying things from people I don't know and watching things I shouldn't be watching. Although I was startled, I listened to her and recited the prayers she taught before going to bed. Believe it or not, that was the first time in months I had a full night's rest. I slept like a baby and I had the most beautiful calming dreams. I dont know how to explain the peace and quiet in my mind that night. I felt at peace. This went on for a couple of weeks until I decide to clean my room. I'm going through my drawers and low and behold, what do I find? The darn dream catcher. I grab it, run to the trash can and throw it out. After this everything has been calm and I've been able to sleep peacefully. I sometimes see things in the dark but I know how to put my mind at ease now. But I just wanted to share this story since I saw a video on tiktok about a native lady warning people about these kinds of things.
