2024.05.22 01:42 MelloDaGod Why I like Spider-Man more than Batman

Why I like Spider-Man more than Batman
I just wanna preface this by saying that I love both of them. They’re both my top 5 heroes. I will just be going over some of the reasons why I feel that Spider-Man is a better character than Batman and things that I don’t like about Batman specifically.
1) Spider-Man’s resilience: Joker once said that it takes one bad to make a person snap. To turn an average joe into someone like him. And to extent, Batman personifies this. Spider-Man has gone through way more stuff that were just as bad, if not worse than what he went through. And yet he is still able to go out and fight crime with a smile on his face. Spider-Man as a person contradicts Batman’s entire character. Spider-Man lost his mom, his dad, his uncle, his wife, and even his aunt before. And yet he is still able to not absolutely go insane and keeps it together for the betterment of himself and the people around him. Spider-Man as a 15 year old child was able to handle the deaths of his loved ones around him better than this 30 something year old man. Peter takes “All it takes is one bad day” and throws it in the trash.
2) Batman’s “moral code”: I don’t really mind the no kill rule, except for not killing the Joker. Like mentioned before, Joker said that all it takes is one bad day. And the game between him and Batman is how but heinous stuff can he do before Bruce just caves in and goes off the deep end. And I can respect that Bruce is able to keep himself in check and not cave in. But Joker has done some heinous stuff though. At some point, Bruce is gonna have to realize that Joker needs to go. Joker has done cruel and horrible things to the city and even Batman’s family, but Batman still won’t kill him because “It’d be too damned easy”. Bro, wtf are you talking about. What is preventing him from killing Joker. What about Bruce’s psyche is not allowing him to cave in and kill Joker? You could hear the pain in Jason Todd’s voice when he said “I’m not talking about Riddler, or Penguin. Him. Just him”. How insane is Batman actually, to lose a son to this man, and still not kill him. How insane is Batman, to see the things that Joker is doing to the city, and realize that it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that Gotham would be better off without Joker. Literally no one disagrees that Gotham would be a 10x better place without joker.
And if you’re really that hellbent on not killing him, then lock him away somewhere forever. You have billions of dollars and contact damn near every other Superhero in DC. You can find somewhere to put him. Doesn’t Oliver Queen own a literal island? Tell him to lock Joker there forever so he can live out the rest of his sad pathetic life until he dies. That Asylum clearly isn’t working. Every time Bruce puts him there, he is fully aware that Joker will break out at some point. And I don’t want to hear that killing Joker wouldn’t chance anything, because if you believe that then there’s no hope for you.
THIS IS JUST FROM MY MORAL STANDPOINT. ITS ALL SUBJECTIVE
If you disagree with any of my points, feel free to comment and we can discuss. All I ask is that we keep this civil.

2024.05.22 00:16 MrDownhillRacer What's Your Headcanon DC Timeline?

For me, it's:
Year Negative Four
Year Negative Two
Year One
Year Two
Year Three
Year Four
Year Five
Year Six
Year Seven
Year Eight
Year Nine
Year Ten
After the first decade or so, time starts being more amorphous and operating on some cross between a timeline that develops and a stationary Simpsons-like timeline where time doesn't really move. Some things progress, some things don't, everything is kept vague, and characters don't notice or call attention to this. Essentially, large amounts of time are zipped into small amounts of time, and both the longer and shorter time intervals between events are "correct" depending on how much we're zooming in on the timeline. For example, Kyle Rayner had a good number of years as a solo Green Lantern and Tim Drake was Robin for a solid amount of time before Hal Jordan returned and Damian Wayne showed up, but somehow, superheroes in general have only been operating for about 10 to 15 years, max. This is really the only way you can keep Batman perpetually in his 30s or 40s without having weird consequences like each Robin only holding the title for a year before he gets a new one.
So after this, I stop having specific "years" and it becomes more like "periods of time in which certain things co-occur." So there might be considerable time intervals between events, yet those events might also paradoxically be squished into some 10-15-year timeline.
The Fall of Heroes Era
The Reconstruction Era
The Millennium Era
The Infinite Crisis Era
The Final Crisis Era
There are things I'm on the fence on, such as whether the Golden Age heroes are part of this timeline. On the one hand, I like the idea of Superman being the world's very first superhero and the public never having had encountered anything fantastical until his debut. If the JSA existed before him, then his debut would be met with "hey look, I guess flying men are back" instead of "can you BELIEVE a man can fly?!" Batman's debut also seems more striking if Gotham was never patrolled by a Green Lantern (that guy probably would have single-handedly demolished Gotham's mob in the '40s instead of letting it grow to the size it would later become).
On the other hand, I wouldn't want to jettison the cool relationships that exist between the Golden Age and later characters, like Kyle Rayner knowing Jade. I think I lean toward "keep them on Earth-2, but allow them to have regular meetings and friendships with the Earth-0 guys." But if the walls between universes are that porous, that just raises the question of why Power Girl got stuck on Earth-0 when the rest of the Earth-2 people can go home whenever they want.

2024.05.21 20:48 DragonTalonDT On the eligibility of "Brandon Sanderson" within my own works (important!!!)

"Heya guys I am Brandon Sanderson pleased to meet you"
This line has been appearing without end in my dreams as of late. On the walls, glowing red on the insides of my eyelids, scrawled in coagulating blood on mirrors... I just can't seem to stop it. Well, you know how writing is, tee hee! The ol' voices only stop when you put pen to paper (not literally. I use a keyboard most of the time? Though I've heard most still use paper and quill from a trusted source.).
So, in order to appease them, I've decided that I should put Brandon Sanderson in my novel and have him say this. However, I'm not sure how to go about it. Do I literally put the guy, as if this were some isekai, coming to my fantasy world post-die, straight as he is, not batting an eye? Or do I just slap his name onto one of my characters and call it a day? (I'm worried the latter could be considered inauthentic. I've never read any of his stuff, but I've heard that if you do, you have to take him on as your patron saint, and as I mention below, I'm not the type to want to be affixed to a cross! Let alone by nerdy book-reading zealots...)
Also, I'm a little concerned about copyright. Is Brandon Sanderson a copyrighted character? Do you think they'd make the exception for me? I really wanna be published, so this is important, but I also don't wanna be crucified by the voices for going against them (they've been dragging it closer to the foot of my bed every 7 days to remind me who's in charge) so I need to find some compromise.
And just one last thing, all my characters tend to be really racist. It just happens. Write what you know, if you get my gist. I think it makes them more nuanced and really shows that not all racists mean any harm! But I get that the masses don't get this and someone from the legal team might be forced to issue a cease and desist because of all those angry fans who don't know what's best, or, worse, the houses would refuse to publish my special novel (this would be bad because I wouldn't get published). Assuming we get the earlier paragraph sorted out, how racist do you think I could make him? Maybe just some implications here and there? Or maybe it's okay if I do show don't tell and make him express his feelings through actions instead of walking up to the camera (I write so it'll be adapted into a movie someday, for context) and stating everything that composes him as the rest of my characters do?
Thanks for the help. Gee, writing can be tough, huh? Luckily we have each other.

2024.05.21 19:56 3lite768 [OTHER] How a Zelda MMO Could Work

This is my proposition for the MMO, The Legend of Zelda: War of Hyrule.
Object of the game: The armies of Queen Zelda and King Ganondorf are at war. The game is over upon the assassination of either. The player must choose a faction and cannot change sides until the defeat of Ganondorf or Zelda. It will all start again after. Ganondorf and Zelda are controlled by humans whose full time job is playing the game. There will be six people playing as each. Three people taking an 8 hour shift Monday-Friday and three people on Saturday and Sunday. When one has to call in sick or use PTO, one will take over another's shift. They can turn on AI when they need to go to the bathroom or out to lunch. The people playing as Link and Dark Link are rewarded to the player with the highest kills of their respective factions.
Ganondorf has a country to the north of Hyrule, over the gorge, past the badlands complete with it's own castle, depths, sky islands, and surface. Players to his faction start there. The country is named Drogmire.
Hyrule has been restored and even expanded. Hyrule Castle is even bigger because they put in a middle section of the castle when it got separated and they now have a really big basement going to the bottom of the depths. The final boss area in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is repurposed to be part of Hyrule Castle. The damaged areas are also repaired. Hyrule Castle Town Market has been restored to contain a variety of stores.
The game is $10 a month. $5 with a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. The players of the winning faction get the next month free. Everyone pays the first month. If multiple victories happen in one month, only the first one counts. The monthly fee will contribute to the wages of the people playing as Zelda and Ganondorf, maintenance, and adding additional features.
There are ten playable races. Five to each faction. Everyone starts out with 23 hearts. 17 shrines per race. Other races cannont enter the shrine designed to that particular race. There is a boss at the end of every shrine, but only 17 total. You can rechallenge three of the bosses a day. Upon the completion of a shine a heart container will be awarded. Stamina vessels will be purchased for 2000 rupees each. More shrines may be added as time goes on.
There will be a new separate armor set for shoes.
You can create your own character's physical appearance in an avatar creator. Players have the option of letting AI suggest a physical appearance. In order to avoid everyone wearing the same looking armor, AI will decide what each set of armor looks like or you can edit it yourself. The effect of the armor is the same for everyone. The Hateno Dye Shop can make other alterations besides color change.
Fast travel is limited to once per day. Completed shrines are the fast travel points and the map builder. Shrines also act as a launchpad. Maps are unavailable in enemy territory. This prevents an absolute frenzy to one location when the locations of Zelda or Ganondorf are revealed. Fast travel cannot be done inside enemy territory except to exit. Entering is not allowed.
The new type of Goo called Bliss will he introduced. It is the glowing yellow version of Gloom. Those in Zelda's Faction will experience healing in Bliss while those in Ganondorf's faction will be hurt by Bliss. There will also be a new food called Light Clumps. They offer Bliss Warding for Ganondorf's Factions, but are poison to Zelda's Faction. Dark Clumps are poisonous to Ganondorf's faction. It will cause poison damage if used as a weapon such as fused to an arrow or a melee weapon.
Powers of Purah pads for Zelda's Faction and Astor pads for Ganondorf's faction include Ultrahand, Fuse, Autobuild, Ascend, Rewind, Stasis, and the three new abilities: Grow, Shrink, and Arrow Prefusion. They also act as phones to communicate with other players over a distance.
Playable races to Zelda's faction.
Hylian: Level 3 Stealth Unarmed ability is Earthwake. Sprint upon pressing B. Material drops upon defeat: femurs and ears.
Rito: Level 2 Cold Resistance Unarmed ability is Gust Flight upon pressing B. No stamina is consumed when gliding, but stamina is consumed when obtaining lift. Material drops upon defeat:Beaks and wings.
Goron: Level 2 Fireproof Unarmed ability is Charge. Rolling upon pressing B. Cannot swim, but can walk on bottom of water. Cannot ride horses except giant ones. Material Drops upon defeat are back shells and hands.
Zora: Level 3 Swim Speed. Unarmed ability is Water Slash. Sprinting upon pressing B on land, super speed swimming in water. Cannot drown, even when stamina is depleted. Can swim underwater. Material Drops upon defeat: Head and arm fins.
Gerudo: Level 2 Heat Resistance. Unarmed ability is Riju's Fury. Sprinting upon pressing B. Materials dropped upon defeat: arm bones and rib cages.
Playable characters to Ganondorf's faction.
Bokoblin: Level 3 Speed Up. Unarmed ability is charge. Sprint upon pressing B. Materials dropped on defeat: horns and fangs.
Moblin: Level 3 Bliss Warding Resistance. Unarmed ability is Ground Pound. Sprint upon pressing B. Cannot ride horses except giant ones. Materials dropped upon defeat: horns and fangs.
Lynel: Attack Up Level 3. Unarmed ability is Fire Breath. Dash upon pressing B at the cost of one full stamina wheel. Cannot ride horses, shield surf, or paraglide, or climb. Materials dropped upon defeat: Sharp horn and blunt horn.
Lizalfo: Shock Resistance Level 3 Unarmed ability is Water Ball Spit. Sprint upon pressing B on land, super speed in water. Cannot drown even when stamina is depleted. Can swim underwater. Materials dropped upon defeat: horns and fins.
Gibdo: Defense Up Level 3. Unarmed ability is Sandstorm. Flight upon pressing B. No stamina consumed when gliding, but stamina is consumed when obtaining lift. Materials dropped upon defeat: ribcage and wings.
Ganondorf, Zelda, Link, and Dark Link all have 40 hearts, three stamina wheels, and all max level buffs. All their stock weapons are unbreakable. Melee weapons do 100 damage unfused, bows do 50 damage, and shields have 90 Shield Guard.
In game communication is avaliable. A USB keyboard can be plugged into the Nintendo Switch. Voice chat is also available. Since all Gerudos must be female and all Gorons must be male, there is also an AI voice changer you can use to sound like your opposite gender. Not that a wrong gender sounding voice is unacceptable. It can also be used to personalize your voice for your other characters if you choose.
All forageable materials respawn every midnight in the Pacific time zone because that is where Nintendo of America is located.
Players can buy, sell, donate, or trade items at their own agreed price. To prevent inflation, there will be only 2 billion rupees in the game. The prices in shops will be adjusted by AI in a supply and demand algorithm.
Local 2 player splitscreen is available.
There will be robot factories where people can assemble their own robots that are AI controlled to hunt down enemies.
There will be a real estate system. Players can buy and sell land and houses. They can design their own homes and store any excess items there.
Champions and Divine Beasts
Whomever has the most kills within that race is labeled the Champion. Each Champion is rewarded with a mansion that has its own armory, storage space, and garage for their own Divine Beast. Only Champions may use Divine Beasts. Kills made while piloting a Divine Beasts do not count towards your kills to keep your position as a Champion or to play as Link or Dark Link because Divine Beasts are overpowered. The Divine Beasts include the ones from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and more for Hylians, and all of Ganondorf's faction.
Divine Beast Vah Epona: The Divine Beast that is a horse. Piloted by the Hylian Champion.
Divine Beast Vah Boko: The Divine Beast that is a boar. Piloted by the Bokoblin Champion.
Divine Beasts Vah Ursus. The Divine Beasts that is a bear. Piloted by the Moblin Champion.
Divine Beast Vah Leonis. Divine Beast that is a lion. Piloted by the Lynel Champion.
Divine Beast Vah Saurian. Divine Beast that is a serpent. Piloted by the Lizalfo Champion.
Divine Beast Vah Noctis. Divine Beast that is a bat. Piloted by the Gibdo Champion.
Kill Counts against AI based enemies do not count for being a Champion, Link, or Dark Link.
Death
Upon dying, another race within your faction must be chosen. Your other unplayed races will join you as avatars. The avatars can take damage and be defeated. Food can be used to heal Avatars. Avatars can be double teamed to use unarmed ability. Avatars have unbreakable stock weapons. Avatars can be healed with food. Upon the defeat of all five races, all can respawn. Upon your defeat you lose 1 of your weapons, bows, and shields for any surrounding players to grab. You will also lose 10 materials chosen at random.
New items Goron Bow: Normal arrows into fire arrows automatically.
Light Clump: Bliss Warding food. Poisonous to Zelda's faction.everything isthmus.
Armor of the Depths (Light Version): Bliss Warding armor for Ganondorf's faction.
Ice shoes: Freezes the ground with each step. Allows for walking on water and lava.
Iron Boots: Makes wearer heavy. Allows for walking on floor of water or to stay put in strong wind.
Cockpit: Zonai device that encases user. Possible uses can include the build for submarines. Also allows for shielding for vehicles.
Oxygen Tank: Zonai devices for extra air. Can be used for scuba diving or for additional air for submarine builds.
Gibdo Bow: Normal arrows turn into shock arrows automatically.

2024.05.21 19:44 oreosss Another post to see if we can solve the PC stuttering issues. Really hoping to sort this out before Akuma drops.

**** SOLVED ****
Thanks to salivarytung - I did the following, downloaded:
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_log_view.html
and found that some USB device was constantly getting unplugged and re-plugged. Turns out, it was my USB-C DAS Keyboard with a dongle. I'm off to get a new keyboard, but can report that now SF6 runs smooth as hell!
Thanks again salivarytung !
I'm at my wits end. I've seen lots of posts after googling with many people with the same problem, some reasonable suggestions but nothing has worked (see below for everything that's been done).
The symptom is - regardless of graphics (low, medium, high) or internal resolution being set to 1 and the game looking like utter crap, it can't maintain a 60fps.
The menus itself run buttery smooth (as to be expected) and run at 120 FPS.
All other games that I play (Helldivers 2, Tekken 8, Against the Storm, etc.) all perform very well as to be expected from my build.
Here are my specs:
  • Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
  • Intel Core i9 10900X @ 3.70GHz
  • 64.0GB DDR4 @ 1600MHz (16-20-20-38)
  • ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. ROG STRIX X299-E GAMING II
  • 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 (NVIDIA)
Nothing is overclocked. All temps are perfectly fine.
Here are the steps that I've taken:
  1. Turned on perform shading within the game options
  2. Disabled all Steam Input
  3. Disabled Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator in Device Manager
  4. Formatted my computer
  5. Downgraded to Nvidia 536.40 (currently using this at the moment)
  6. Downgraded to Nvidia 540.xx (forgot but it was in a thread)
  7. Upgraded to latest graphics driver
  8. Verified all files on steam
  9. Unplugged any other devices.
  10. Created a new user profile to ensure it wasn't a shared program
  11. Moved the game to the same NVME drive as my OS
  12. Uninstalled and reinstalled on both NVME drives (my games drive and OS drive)
  13. Loaded every single character and every single map twice.
  14. Changed who was managing VSync (sf6, nvidia, and rivatuner)
  15. Disabled Xbox game bar
  16. Disabled steam controller drivers.
As you can see, I've tried almost everything - and all I can hope for now is that the Akuma patch comes with some necessary fixes that Capcom hasn't acknowledged, but that seems very unlikely.
Any help is truly appreciated, as well as people who are suffering from the same problem to speak up.
Edit:
Added 2 more things that I did that I forgot.

2024.05.21 16:28 jpgerb Keyboarding for math symbols

Does anyone have a good resource for easy ways (in windows) to type out the different calc symbols? Like epsilon, delta, alpha, beta, etc. I can dig some out in the character map but I can’t find most of them. Or if there’s a keyboard “extension” out there that has those buttons that you can usb in to your computer in addition to your regular keyboard, that would be cool too.

2024.05.21 15:16 authrop My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.

My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.
I discovered Ironsworn a few years back during a Print-and-play / Solo gaming phase brought about due to the pandemic lockdown. I had played and enjoyed Four Against Darkness and quickly started looking for something else to scratch the Solo RPG/Gaming itch. Ironsworn seemed really interesting for a number of reasons:
  1. The narrative first approach interested me as someone who has enjoyed creative writing forever but lacked the focus to actually sit down and do it regularly.
  2. The very relaxed attitude to the setting. The Ironlands felt like it was as much a jumping off point for world creation as an interesting world to explore. The Your Truths exercise only increased this feeling and was a joy to complete on its own, even without playing the game.
  3. The extremely well written (Free!) rulebook which quickly became something I read to relax, again without even begining to play the game.
  4. The Oracles felt incredible to roll on and discover new exciting and unexpected avenues for storytelling.
Despite all of this interest, I initially struggled to get a campaign off the ground. I would enjoy creating the world and a character but then after a brief start, lose interest in my personal journey and return back to looking at the rulebook or finding other resources available, or watching Me, Myself and Die! or some other, much more practised, solo player.
I think the reason for this was that I didn't have a set method for actually playing the game. I would switch between: messing with Roll20 or Ironjournal, jotted down notes in a notepad, using a word document on my laptop and various other ways as I basically procrastinated actually making headway in my story. Even printing and organising the Lodestar reference book along with various cheatsheets in a nice folder for eventual use once I stopped dithering about. In the end, it got shelved. Always in the back of my mind and never completely forgotten but not touched for a couple of years.
Then recently I got an urge and had a quick glance through the rulebook PDF which was on my phone and I realised something I should have known all along; Ironsworn isn't a strict, crunchy system but a tool for personal storytelling and to relax into it.
So after rereading the entire rulebook (haha, of course! I love that thing) and also looking into the newer version of Ironjournal, I started and it's even better than I imagined once everything starts to flow and analysis paralysis fades.
My current setup is:
• A tablet (less distractions than a laptop) and a Bluetooth keyboard (for faster typing and easier access to formatting controls).
• The newer Ironjournal open in split screen with a Google document - I use Ironjournal for the truths, the character sheet and progress tracks, map and location/NPC tracking. The Google doc is for the my campaign journal as I can have a nicer, more novel-like font (helps me alot for all types of writing) and also allows me to format it clearer between narrative and mechanics over the inbuilt journal function of IJ.
• After using the inbuilt dice rolleoracle roller in IJ for a short while, I have switched to psychical dice and a dice tray and I now refer to my stats and the oracles in Eric Bright's Expanded Oracles document (which now includes Shawn Tomkins original oracles as well). Manually making the calculations and assessing the results. - Although this method is slightly longer, it seems to produce better narrative discussions for me rather than the extremely quick way in which IJ throws the results at you.
• I also have the rulebook PDF open as a pop out for reference along with the Expanded Oracles PDF.
• Finally, something I have discovered and I find interesting is using the UNE (Universal NPC Emulator) and BOLD (Book of Legends and Deeds) both by the late Zach Best. I believe these pre-date Ironsworn by a good 10 years and in someway do a similar job as some of IS's oracles but there is something about the structure and the results being framed as a leading question I find helpful and exciting.
All in all, I think I've found a good workflow to progress stories and enjoy the system (finally!).
Next upgrades on my list are:
• To become familiar with Delve and introduce that - I have the PDF and have read a large chunk of it but haven't bit the bullet and used it (I also haven't felt the base game lacking or the need for more as of yet).
• To get some heavy metal dice as the tactile element of them appeals to me in a way I can't quite explain (haha!).
• To become more familiar with how best to map out or otherwise create visual counterparts for my adventures, either using AI image generation or something else. Currently using a generated village map from Watabou's Procgen Arcana as a starting point for my characters home village.
Any advice or things that people have found to be personally beneficial in getting and keeping your games interesting and flowing well would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if I wrote this post for advice or to simply consolidate my relationship with the Ironsworn system for myself. Either way, here is it!

2024.05.21 06:12 Celebril63 My thoughts on survival settings. What works for *me*.

My thoughts on survival settings. What works for *me*.
These settings give a +49% XP bonus!
I've spent the time since the last update playing around with the settings to find just what is my sweet spot. After a lot of trial and error, this is what I've come up with. Following is just going down the list and my thoughts/reasons on each. I'll note that I am in the mid-140 level and on NG+7. That said, I am pretty confident I can use these settings when I start my new character eventually.
Combat Damage: Extreme. I tend to fight patiently and methodically. I'll use cover and my sights, rather than just hip firing the on-screen reticule. I use only a few weapons and have pretty much mastered them. Extreme means I have to fight smart. Even Very Hard is just a "Be careful," difficulty. Extreme fights my fighing style and the bumped up AI is refreshing. Not only do the enemies fight smarter, they are also more prone to run away if they have a chance.
Ship Damage: Very Hard. I play from the cockpit view and use a controller. I hate keyboard/mouse in space combat sims. One of the things I've noticed is that the AI has definitely had some improvements. Rather than being able to treat those 4 ships in the random encounter as 4 seperate dogfights, it has a feel that they are using tactics against me. A Wight and 3 escorts - all at level 75 - is a challenging fight now on Very Hard and downright ridiculous on Extreme. Crew contributions definitely matter now. This combination actually feels on par with the Extreme setting for Combat Damage.
If I could use my Throttle/Stick, though, I would almost certainly be going to Extreme difficulty. For controller, though, Very Hard is the best pairing with my other settings.
Ammo Weight: Weighted. That seems almost like a no-brainer. Frankly, this setting is almost too generous. If you've ever picked up an ammo can of 5.56, or a case of .22LR, you know what I mean. You can carry more than enough easily for any mission and still come out ahead in the end.
Carry Capacity: Normal. I go back and forth on this one. Since I'm using food buffs and nerfs, I'd be tempted to use the reduced capacity for the XP bonus. But it feels like I'm shortchanging myself for spending all those skill points to specifically increase my carry. It is just a better "game feel" for me to leave this at normal.
Cargo Access: Normal. Again, it's really just trading XP for a very mild inconvenience. Leaving it at normal keeps a slightly better gameflow without the cheesy feeling that Anywhere gives.
Vendor Credits: Increased. Normal certainly felt too lean. Greatly Increased was defintely too rich. Increased really was the happy middle, where there was some sense of prosperity for the vendors but avoided the monty haul feeling. And the XP loss is really minimal on Increased.
Medical Healing: Slowly. This was really based on what just felt right. Truth is, I've got max rejuvination skill, so I don't need medpacks often, especially how I fight. If I do need one, then slow has the best gameplay feel.
Food Healing: None. I'm using food for sustenance. It really doesn't need to contribute to healing, between medkits and natural regeneration.
Sleep Healing: Location Limited. Since I regenerate, I really should set this to None for the XP. For roleplay, though, Location Limited healing gives better gameplay for me.
Sustenance: Positive and Negative. There could probably be a bit of balancing and tweaking done here. There's no grey zone between malnourished and well fed. It's a binary buff or nerf. However, the time limit is 30 minutes of playing time for the buff, not in-game time. Frankly, I carry food and eat anyway. Roleplaying. Now there's a point to it.
Affliction Gain/Treatment/Prognosis: These settings really feel good on the most difficult settings. I think Bethesda hit a home run with this trio. I've spent the game, so far, carrying a solid IFAK load. It's light, but complete. Now there finally is a real point to it. And ultimately, you need either time or professional treatment to get over that final hill. I like how this works here.
Environmental Damage: Normal. Frankly, I've felt from the beginning that evironmental damage was a bit broken. When you could get frostbite walking from your ship to the Ship Technician on New Homestead in high-tech environmental armor and that ship tech is standing around like it's a summer day, something's not quite right. Turning them Off didn't feel very good in game, either, though. At the end of the day, I had to leave this at Normal.
I really don't want Bethesda to change much in the hardest settings for Environmental Damage, though. There are plenty of survival game lovers that are enjoying this setting. What is needed though, is some balancing of Normal and/or the addition of a difficulty that is between Normal and Advanced. Restoration can then stay where it is.
Overall, though, I'd have to say these environmental settings are pretty close to a home run. At least a triple. :-) The level of configurability to match your gameplay and style is outstanding. These are the settings that work for me. You will likely have different preferences.
I don't suggest you use these settings or that these are the best settings. I do, however, encourage you to play around with them and tailor your game experience to what gives you the best feel in the game. It's absolutely worth the effort and there is no reaon not to.

2024.05.21 03:12 DarvonCrocuta Looking for retro PC christmas game

Hello, as a kid i used to play this pc game with my cousin that was christmas themed for some reason. It was only for 2 players using one keyboard, playing as characters that were red and blue fluffy balls with eyes and santa hats. You had to kill each other with many types of guns randomly appearing on the screen.
The balls always made a morbidly cute whine when shot. The background of the game was a still picture with maps full of platforms (dont remember too well) and fans and trampolines that helped you fly across the screen.
There was a christmas music playing in background, too. We got the game from a CD containing a bundle of random games around 90s - 00s, these were CDs that were being sold as a part of one czech magazine so there were around 200 CDs and about 50 games on each. So unfortunatelly i have not much way how to find the game, not remembering the name and stuff.
I remember i once found the game through google after hours of search like 8 years ago, but it doesnt seem to be that easy to be found anymore...
it was a pc game that didnt need internet connection, just a simple installation and thats it.
Id be super gratefull if someone figured out what the name was!

2024.05.21 02:57 One_Engineering8030 New subscriber to Wordvoyance and also playing the beta for braille lines. Question inside.

Hello, I am a brand new subscriber to Wordvoyance after learning about the program through an online organization that helps the blind, on a podcast that they hosted recently regarding various apps that are useful for blind users, and Wordvoyance came up when they were talking about games. Being a longtime fan of word games, Wordvoyance is great for me because up until I went blind last year, my wife and I used to play word games for the last 30 or so years. And ever since I went blind overnight last year unexpectedly, we haven’t been able to play anything competitive. And Wordvoyance is right up or rally because we used to love word games of this type. But I do have a couple questions.
Is this the best place to send feedback for Wordvoyance and braille lines? I noticed that there’s not much player activity here, but although there’s links to Facebook and discord for Wordvoyance, I don’t have account either place, and I’ve never used Facebook and I’m actually not interested at all because I have family I’d rather not interact with with their crazy ideas, ha ha. But as for discord, I cannot get past the capture requirement because I’m blind and I cannot identify the images and the text questions that they ask cause me to fail every time, so I’m either a robot or my answers just aren’t acceptable even though I think they’re pretty straightforward but regardless, I’m having an issue creating a discord account. So that makes the question. Is this an appropriate venue for posting feedback in the like because if you’d rather receive feedback, otherwise just feel free to reply to this message and I’ll check for it.
My wife and I are having a lot of fun with Wordvoyance, and I am having a lot of fun with braille lines, she doesn’t know braille and she’s very busy and doesn’t have time to learn a new game such as that or at least not to master it so to speak. But I love both and I do know braille because I’ve been learning it since very late last year ever since going blind and I’m very happy to say that I’ve memorized alphabets numbers and punctuation, but I have not yet learned contracted braille, but none of that is important And braille lines so far as I’ve seen it all. So I have a lot of fun with the game and it really helps me think about each bar character in different ways and group them differently in my head and although I already know the characters, I’m thinking about them in new ways, such as thinking oh which characters have two dots or which ones have three and grouping them all that way in my head and I don’t know it’s just like really fun practice and Getting my brain to constantly think of words in braille rather than the text that I’ve been reading visually my whole 50 years of life up until the point where I went blind overnight. Well, thank you guys for all of the work put into accessibility for these two programs believe me I really like that which is why I subscribed in the first place just a couple days ago after trying Wordvoyance out for a couple games versus the bots and then have my wife. Try it with me. so I’ll look for feedback at this point. I’m just rambling because I’m typing this via voice to text and I tend to ramble when I do voice to text because I do not yet have a keyboard that I can use with this particular device other than the screen keyboard, which is not the fastest way to communicate. Thanks for everything have a great day Later.

2024.05.20 23:07 ParticularlyAvocado The Batman Reviewed: Season 3 - 5

27/28. Batgirl Begins - 4/5 (Starting this in medias res was a good choice, since if you're already familiar with Batman stuff, you know Barbara was gonna become Batgirl in this (and even if you don't, the title would reveal as much). So starting with a Poison Ivy fight made me more curious to see everything that lead up to it was opposed to just waiting for the "reveal" that Barbara becomes Batgirl and Pamela becomes Poison Ivy. Plus, Barbara's snarky narration was amusing. Introducing Batgirl as Batman's first sidekick (even if this was merely due to a stupid embargo) as well as making Poison Ivy be her best friend turned arch nemesis is pretty fun because of its uniqueness alone. Especially because it makes the stakes more interesting when Ivy has a personal grudge against Gordon. And I liked Batman's "not every child gets the opportunity to rescue their parent" comment. Yeah, it's cliché, but that stuff is the core of Batman, so it's nice to see this side of him acknowledged, since it rarely is in this series. Also, making Gordon not able to recognize Batgirl as Barbara because he wasn't wearing his glasses was pretty "clever". "Clever" in quotations because it's still dumb, but since most DC shows love to sell you on the idea that people cannot recognize each other's face by simply putting a mask on the top half, it's funny that this series bothered to give an explanation at all. He should still have recognized her voice, but you can't win 'em all.)
29. A Dark Knight to Remember - 3/5 (Freezing Poison Ivy in the previous episode, then defeating the Kabuki Twins by freezing them in this as well? Batman is becoming Mr. Freeze. Anyway, here's a pretty standard amnesia cartoon episode. Decent gimmick, and they also added a stock Secret Identity Almost Discovered:tm: plot to spice things up. The circumstances of Bruce's amnesia being the perfect cover for Barbara dropping the idea that he could be Batman is fun, but Bruce's actual amnesia is just cartoonishly illogical. Even if he lost memories of his last few years as the Batman, how would that also genuinely make him a self absorbed playboy? He was always a broody guy with a heart of gold, even before donning the cape and cowl.)
30. A Fistful of Felt - 3/5 (This is just a poor man's Double Talk. It treads the exact same stuff; Wesker is cured of Scarface so he lives a peaceful life before Scarface forcibly reappears at the hands of someone trying to bait him and he succumbs to it before Batman eventually confronts him and Scarface gets destroyed. Except this is way less substantial and lacking in drama and emotion. It's a shame, because during the group therapy scene, I was excited that this could potentially be a formula bender, having it take place entirely in Arkham Asylum and focusing on Wesker's recovery process. But then I remembered this is The Batman, so yeah. Also I HATE Snooty's design!)
31. RPM - 2/5 (Wow, after seeing this, I immediately went out and bought The Batman Batmobile #2 with working lights & sounds, firing disc launcher and opening cockpit! No, but really, did I actually just watch a toy commercial for 20 minutes? I get that that's where action cartoons make their profit, and that's fine, but this was so blatant it's not even funny. Like that scene of Batman arriving in his new CGI Batmobile as the camera spins around it. Give me a break. Not to imply the writers were being hacky or anything. It was clearly an executive mandate. They just wrote a lame episode around it. Gearhead wasn't very interesting, although it's cool he was voiced by Will Friedle I guess. And the episode is just about cars, a subject I do not find interesting. I did laugh at Barbara asking Gordon "taking the car?" and he just opens the door and stares at her.)
32. Brawn - 4/5 (At this point they should rename the series "The Batgirl" since most episodes now put her in the main role, having to save Batman's butt. Not a complaint, it's a nice change of pace from the repetitive Batman Stops Villain:tm: plots. This episode is pretty darn good though, which is surprising since it's really nothing but a long fight scene. Most of it consecutively takes place in real time on one street street as they duke it out. You'd think that would get boring, but Bane-ified Joker is a cool enough concept to genuinely carry enough entertainment value on its own. And Batgirl using the Batbot was fun.)
33. The Laughing Cats - 4/5 (Two Joker episodes in a row? Also a Catwoman episode, which... Yeah, Joker being in it was obviously an improvement. Making her team up with Batman to stop Joker was more interesting than had it been about Batman stopping another one of her generic jewel thefts. Them being stuck in a maze with Joker using their gadgets was fun, and I liked that his hyenas were not loyal to him at all, LOL. As a side note, Kilgore Steed's hunter schtick makes NO sense. Capturing animals to put them in a giant maze full of traps that will just automatically kill them is not much of a "hunt".)
34. Fleurs du Mal - 3/5 (I guess the show isn't going to acknowledge any drama between Barbara and Poison Ivy and she's immediately relegated to stock villain who does her villainous schtick and gets defeated? Clayface all over again. It also wasn't much of a mystery who the villain could be since it literally begins with the mayor being taken over by flowers. The characters themselves uncovering the mystery and battling the plant replicas was neat enough, so whatever. And Batman punching an old lady was funny. I don't understand why Poison Ivy replaced Penguin, though. She's replacing the people who control Gotham, and he's a washed up nobody who's lost his fortune. Also, Batman is lucky he only fought the plant replica or he would have killed Penguin. He fell right into spinning blades which clearly shredded him... Although he's still intact when they land, so I guess logic took a break for this scene. Side note, the show is getting WAY too reliant on ending with a zoomout of Batman and Batgirl as she makes some snappy comment.)
35. Cash for Toys - 2/5 (So Cash can return but not Yin? There is no justice in this world. He wasn't funny in his first appearance, and he's...slightly less unfunny here. So yeah. Add a straight up Toyman ripoff instead of just Toyman, for some reason, and you get a pretty lame episode. I get that he's a Superman villain, but the series didn't have a problem using Solomon Grundy, so Toyman shouldn't have been off the table. You could assume they just embargo'd him because he made cameos, albeit speechless, in JLU. But then, Grundy was the main focus of a JLU episode less than a year before Grundy's Night, so this doesn't add up! Not that Krank being called Toyman would make a difference, because I still wouldn't like him. So, YEAH.)
36. The Apprentice - 4/5 (Joker getting a sidekick is definitely a fun idea, and while I obviously liked this episode, it plays out exactly how you'd expect. I liked how wholesome Joker was to Donnie at first when he was brainstorming ideas and then turned grim when Donnie didn't want to hurt people. It definitely adds at least one more layer than the average Joker Shenanigans:tm: episode. You can definitely feel how genuinely scary it would be to simply be around this lunatic, especially if he has it out for you. Also, Donnie's jokes probably doesn't get laughs because he's in high school doing kindergarten tier jokes.)
37. Thunder - 3/5 (It's Maxie Zeus, the most iconic DC character of all time, doing his typical Olympus schtick. Yeah, so, the episode isn't really about him. His scheme is just a setup to show how well Batgirl can carry herself. And in that aspect, I do find it fun. It's a bit dumb that she yaps to Batman about how she wants to be in the loop though, as if she isn't just Batgirling of her own accord. He never agreed to be a team, she just stalks him. Side note, Gordon sternly correcting Grange with "batarang" made me chuckle.)
38. The Icy Depths - 4/5 (Despite being the umpteenth episode about stealing jewels, this was refreshing due to presenting it more as an actual mystery and having two villains, alongside Alfred and his old chum, trying to uncover it. It was fun how they all got the upper hand on one another, and I always like Alfred being involved in an adventure. I don't understand why Batman even needs to stop this "crime", though. The treasure doesn't belong to anyone anymore. And if it DOES rightfully belong to someone, that would be Penguin. What was up with a random rotating shot of the boat here though?)
39. Gotham's Ultimate Criminal Mastermind - 3/5 (Mr. Freeze's Arkham number is 800B5. I bet they thought they were really funny with that one. Unlike the previous BTAS ripoff episodes, this was only vaguely a ripoff of Heart of Steel, so I'll cut it some slack. But it's pretty thin. D.A.V.E. is just super smart and wants to defeat Batman, then Batman wins by just telling him something that does not compute. I guess it's neat that they finally built on those vague hints about Hugo Strange being "evil". It's just a shame the antagonist is merely his robot, not actually him. And why does he get locked in Arkham after being caught? He's not insane.)
40. A Matter of Family - 3/5 (Who sharpened Bruce's jaw?! Also, Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy. As for the actual episode, I was underwhelmed. It's a pretty straightforward telling of Robin's origin story, but it rushes the emotional moments and doesn't let them get too "heavy", which makes them less effective. Zucco is a pretty upfront mustache-twirling villain instead of a mysterious figure, and they don't really acknowledge how devastating such an event would be, or the awkwardness of immediately being adopted by a rando. Dick just gets some watery eyes then he's instantly comfortable at Wayne Manor. But I liked tying "Robin" into something his mom used to call him. Batman speaks with a much deeper voice in this episode. Must've come with the new jaw.)
41. Team Penguin - 4/5 (Did it really take seeing teamwork in a movie for Penguin spawn the brilliantly unique plan of "more villains = harder for Batman"? This was a fun teamup, though. I'm glad they didn't go for the obvious choices like Joker, Mr. Freeze, Riddler etc and instead opted for the "misfits". Croc is the only one of the group I didn't care for. But I liked seeing Ragdoll again, and Killer Moth was pretty funny. I liked that he remained a suckup even after being horribly mutated. I liked the theme of teamwork the episode had, since it ties nicely together with the valid jealousy Barbara would have for some rando in red becoming Batman's sidekick and knowing his identity when she has been wanting that for ages. Also, Robin immediately wailing on Penguin for calling him a lackey made me laugh.)
42. Clayfaces - 4/5 (Nice to see my buddy Bennett again. Guess they wanted to redeem themselves after the nonsense they pulled with Grundy's Night. But given this is his last appearance, this was a pretty unsatisfying "arc". Him going full-blown villain didn't make sense from the start. His desire to take revenge on Joker I get, but aside from that, it shouldn't have taken him THIS long to realize he should use his powers for good instead. Basil Karlo wasn't a super compelling character or anything, but him being an ugly dweeb was quite funny, and the spectacle of two Clayfaces duking it out more than makes up for it, because that was pretty awesome. Side note, why is this company so picky with who they cast in their fricking dog food commercial? It's dog food. Just show dogs.)
43. The Everywhere Man - 3/5 (I like the concept of the Everywhere Man, but was disappointed at how little they truly utilized it for story/action potential. The first half is just a mystery where you're supposed to think it's two guys (provided you did not read the episode title), then Johnny just expositions how his powers work and Batman fights a bunch of copies. The villain himself being a copy is a cool twist, but it would've been more interesting if the copies mostly worked as a hivemind and they utilized that to make fighting them really hard for Batman since they'd be such a perfectly synchronized army. The episode wrapping itself around some girl saying Johnny was cuter as a nerd, and then the real Johnny getting the girl in the end was so random it's almost hilarious.)
44. The Breakout - 4/5 (Black Mask being in this episode is pretty neat, as he is a fairly well-known character who, despite that, doesn't seem to appear in animation a lot. That said, he was not very compelling. He's just a stern, no-nonsense mob boss. Which for the plot of this episode is all he needs to be, so I won't give him flack for that. It's a fun change of pace to have a mostly Batman-free episode with focus on his sidekicks instead. Batgirl and Robin have a pretty charming dynamic; I liked when they guessed what Black Mask's face looks like and he got pissed off. LOL. And it was interesting how it's sort of a bottle episode, with most of it taking place within the police station as they try to prevent Black Mask's militia from breaking in. Batman ending the episode by telling them to wash the Batmobile was a certified LOL.)
45. Strange New World - 5/5 (This was great. I really like Hugo Strange, so it's fun to actually see his sinister side now that he's been outed as a villain. And while at first it felt mostly like a standard zombie story, the dramaic tone and hellish visuals, alongside the crazy ways the zombies jump around, made the whole thing a pleasure to look at. But the twist is what really got me. I didn't put it all together myself until right as Batman was figuring it out, and it really made all the scenes of him fighting zombie Batgirl/Robin/Gordon amusing to think about in retrospect. That said, isn't this a Scarecrow-tier scheme? I guess since he couldn't be in this show they just gave it to Strange.)
46. Artifacts - 3/5 (For an entire episode set in the future, I was expecting more than just the spectacle of a generic Mr. Freeze battle. But that's really all there is to it. That said, I liked the W I D E Batman design. I know it's an homage to The Dark Knight Returns, but I've never seen or read that, so yeah. Mr. Freeze blatantly saying that title after seeing the Batman was so funny, though. It works contextually, but when you know the reference it felt no different than if he had said "Batman: The Animated Series". LOL. I see Barbara will go the Oracle route in this show. Sad. Also, they can blatantly reference Bennett and Yin, but refuse to show them any further regardless? Screw. You.)
47. Seconds - 4/5 (The Batman's take on Clock King? He's not officially named as such, but it's pretty much a Cosmo Krank/Toyman situation again. I found his time travel abilities fairly interesting, as it was fun to see some random schmuck effortlessly upstage Batman. HOW he got those powers though... He got bored in prison and was surrounded by clocks, so one day he could shift time. What? Also Batman has an atomic clock that is not affected by time literally shifting backwards. What?? Yeah, so, this episode has a lot of "okay buddy" moments. But really, they just added to the fun. If you're gonna be nonsensical, might as well go all in. And that ending really caught me off guard. Imagine reliving 17 years of your life like that, only to still end up a fricking clock repairman. He really couldn't have invested in stocks he knew would have gone up?)
48. Riddler's Revenge - 4/5 (I certainly wasn't expecting this series to try and pull off an emotional Riddler episode. One that actually works, no less. But here we are. It's not the deepest thing in the world, but I thought seeing his origin handled this "seriously" was an fun take, and it was interesting that his own origin was a "riddle" that he got wrong. Wrapping the origin around him and Batman being trapped in a crate was pretty clever. Although after unwrapping his entire life story to Batman, I would've thought he would be a little less hostile towards him after they escape. But no, he just goes back to being evil. I liked Batman's final line though. "When is a villain, not THE villain?".)
49. Two of a Kind - 4/5 (They got Paul Dini in just to write the Harley episode. It's pretty good, though. The different take from Mad Love is amusing to see. I think showing Harleen as a loudly outspoken ditz makes her descent into jester-themed criminal more believable. Especially since they directly give her a personal vendetta to push the criminal aspect further. But since this episode is mostly banking on showcasing the "unique take", it's hard to look at it past comparisons. Without them, it's sort of just The Apprentice but with Harley instead of Donnie. But Harley is funnier, and generally I liked all the zany stuff she and Joker gets into, so this is the better "Joker gets a sidekick" episode. Plus, it has a whole ass Joker musical number.)
50. Rumors - 3/5 (The Batman's take on... Lock-Up? Okay, not really, but the similarities did cross my mind. The premise here is pretty basic. Rumor was not a very thrilling antagonist or anything. He's some generic guy who works for another generic guy, who's just a red herring because he blames being a cripple on Batman. Really, the spectacle of Batman fighting all his past villains in the final scene is the best part of the episode. Although I'm confused why some of them are even there and in costume. Cluemaster only had one goal, why would he still be Cluemastering? And is Spellbinder really Gotham based? How did Rumor even capture him? He's a psychic! And Harley Quinn literally JUST became a villain. I liked Penguin begging Batman to stop him, though. LOL.)
51/52. The Joining - 4/5 (Oh geez, it's Martian Kronkhunter. Couldn't Patrick Warburton voice him instead of Cash Tankinson? I liked the way he casually outs knowing Batman's identity. But on that note, they sure talk about that in public a LOT here. Including the aforementioned scene, both Robin and Bruce himself yaps out "Bruce Wayne is Batman" on two separate occasions. Robin says it in a crowded street, Bruce in a small diner. Yeah, I'm sure absolutely NO ONE within the vicinity could have possibly heard those things. It's not like Bruce and J'onn are having a lengthy conversation about it right where the waitress, chef, and any potential surrounding customers could hear it or anything.
This was a pretty basic alien invasion story, and it's quite a leap in stakes compared to the usual jewel thievery. But I liked the usage of Martian Manhunter. I thought he and Batman had an interesting chemistry. Their initial fight scene was so stupid, though. "Oh no, the Batman discovered I'm an alien. Better not explain anything and instead just beat him up and run away until he catches up and then say I'm on his side". I thought the emotional anchor of Batgirl and Robin feeling unwanted was a bit undercooked, but the moment when Batman says he worries about losing them was sweet, so whatever. And I liked the scene of the villains helping the police fend off aliens.)
53/54. The Batman / Superman Story - 3/5 (With the show finally being allowed to bring in more expansive DC lore, the first thing they make is the most generic Superman story they could think of. Yeah, okay. I liked the way Batman discovered Superman's identity, and seeing the villains of Gotham take him down was fun. But a whole episode just for that that setup, with the second being a prolonged Batman vs. Superman fight scene and then stopping Lex Luthor from doing something evil? Yeah, I didn't really jive with it. Also, with literally ALL of the sky available, did Superman really just fly right into Robin? AND ignored it? Not very boyscout-y.)
55. Vertigo - 3/5 (This was decent, but it mostly thrives off of the novelty of being a Green Arrow crossover as opposed to being an organic Batman story. In fact this would have been improved by cutting out Batman entirely. I liked seeing Green Arrow's origin, and they could've explored his attempt to take revenge on Vertigo and such on his own. And while he DOES do that here, since it's a Batman show, most of it is from Batman's perspective as Green Arrow recaps his story. So, ultimately, they should just make The Green Arrow.)
56. White Heat - 4/5 (Neat revamp of Firefly. He was never a particularly compelling character, but the fact that he was already established in this show makes his descent from petty thief to molten monster in this more compelling by default than had this been his first episode a la Killer Moth or something. And with the inclusion of his girlfriend, it had some genuine emotion. Not a tearjerker or anything, but his last appearance being his girlfriend dumping him and walking away as he's stuck in a pitch black prison cell with him still faintly glowing in the dark is pretty bleak. So the fact that they managed to get all of that out of an episode that can be summed up to "Batman stops molten villain cause he's too hot" is impressive. The battle at the power plant itself was pretty awesome though. But Bruce is really risking his identity fighting with half his face exposed like that.)
57. A Mirror Darkly - 3/5 (Just like the Superman episode, the writers barely do anything to justify its existence besides thinking I should be thrilled by the mere presence of Flash. Well, when the plot is as generic as one of Flash's iconic rogues coming to Gotham to be evil so Flash stops him and Batman helps because it's a Batman show... I'm not. And just like Superman again, Flash didn't leave much of an impression of me. Adding the trait that he talks incredibly fast was amusing, I suppose.)
58. Joker Express - 3/5 (I would have thought with free reign to utilize all of DC lore, this show would be over their generic Joker Scheme:tm: episodes. Guess not. There's literally nothing to be said about this one that hasn't been said about the others, though. Batgirl being infected with Joker's laugh was definitely a very enjoyable scene. But after that, it's as predictable as Topsy Turvy, JTV or The Apprentice.)
59. Ring Toss - 3/5 (Green Lantern. I wonder what fresh, unique plot The Batman crew will conjure up for this one. Oh, Sinestro comes to attack Hal Jordan, but Hal wins. And Batman helps in between, because it's a Batman show. Starting to sound like a broken record here, but that's how unimaginative these episodes really are. It's competent, but it's pretty much shut-your-brain-off-and-enjoy-the-action tier. This one does have the middle part of Penguin with a power ring, which was genuinely gold stuff. The only problem is, it doesn't last for long enough, and ultimately Penguin's inclusion is really just time filler in between Sinestro being defeated.
60. The Metal Face of Comedy - 4/5 (Let me get this straight, Joker is digitally copied by wearing a helmet connected to a laptop while getting shocked? On top of the common trope of cartoon writers not understanding how video games work, logic is clearly not this episode's strong suit. The phrase "mentally download money" pretty much speaks for itself. Regardless, the prospect of Joker vs. Joker is fun enough alone. All the wacky antics Joker 2.0 is able to get into with his morphic abilities were visually fun. It's especially amusing to see the real Joker completely discombobulated by being upstaged and betrayed by, well, himself. Even cheering on for Batman to win.)
61. Attack of the Terrible Trio - 3/5 (The Terrible Trio were fun as a group of misfits, but it's pretty laughable how these college students are being bullied like it's middle school. Also do they really expect me to believe the hot, edgy chick is considered a loser? Jake is the only loser here. It's cool that this show actually had them transform into animals, even if the designs are little...awkward. It's also neat that they gave them a connection to Barbara's personal life, but at the same time it's disappointing that they didn't put Batgirl in a bigger role because of it. Batman's still the one saving the day. Also I was a little disappointing David's final transformation wasn't any more creative than just a griffin. As a side note, it's nice that this closes the door on Langstrom's Man-Bat arc.)
62. The End of the Batman - 3/5 (Fake title, there's three more episodes. The idea of an Anti-Batman and Robin is pretty fun. Wrath served as an entertaining foil to Batman what with figuring out his identity and everything. I think the ending is a little cheap, though. Joker uses his smile-gas so much, you'd think there would be a common antidote by now. Not like Wrath and Scorn are gonna be like that for the rest of their lives. Also a portion of this episode is pretty reminiscent of Team Penguin. Something which they even acknowledge themselves. But just because they point it out doesn't make it not true! Joker being annoyed by being put on menial tasks was funny though.)
63. What Goes Up... - 4/5 (Same as the previous Justice League members, Hawkman didn't leave much of an impression on me. But this time it doesn't matter as much because the episode doesn't put half the spotlight on him. It's mostly focused on Batman stopping Black Mask's, a villain whom I already thought should be utilized more, scheme. Which is stealing a whole building! I mean how cool of an action setpiece isn't an airborne building? On top of Robin being nth metal'd, it was a very fun watch. Really, Hawkman and Shadow Thief feel more like afterthoughts. But even that isn't a bad thing, because they had very enjoyable action scenes. And geez, poor Number One #2.)
64/65. Lost Heroes - 4/5 (Oh, the actual Toyman appears in this show. "Toyman" my ass, that's a damn Jester. Cosmo Krank is more of a Toyman than you will ever be, bud. This episode is pretty fun, if only because I think the narrative of non-superpowered heroes proving their capabilities and humbling the heroes with superpowers when they can't use theirs is amusing. Batman and Green Arrow as a duo was good, and everybody fighting their robot counterparts was cool. I think the robots had pretty rad designs. The only "bad" aspects of the episode is rehashing The Joining as the threat again, and Hugo Strange's inclusion. Not that I don't like him, I think he's a great villain. But this wasn't really a story fitting for him. He's better working from the shadows with the intent of studying the behavior of his victim, not just being a pawn to some alien robot.)

2024.05.20 21:58 ErikCoolness An Embarrassing iPhone situation…

Okay, so. I was browsing on my iPhone, I was… well, Google searching about a character from a game I was playing to learn more about them, and there was a link to a porn site as one of the Google results… I have no idea why, I was literally just trying to find out more info about a character… but, me trying to skip it and scroll down accidentally tapped it and now I’m scared that some sort of adware or spyware, or just malware in general is on my iPhone. I really don’t want to have to resort to factory resetting since I already did that recently for another reason. But, I do have the latest iOS update and I’ve never jailbroken my iPhone, ever. I even cleared the website data and history through settings.
Should I still be worried though? My battery seems to be working fine and I’m not really experiencing any slow down, aside from a couple of times my keyboard lagged, but to me that’s kinda a normal occurrence, especially since I’m a fast typer. I know Apple takes Cybersecurity seriously, since they don’t allow AVs onto iOS like Android does, but still and again, should I still be worried about this?

2024.05.20 20:26 bugmultiverse Hot Take: Arkham city is my least favorite game in the saga.

I like all the games but for me City is the weakest one in the series mainly for its story and side missions.
The villain presence: The villains of the game feel almost too much and too less, Joker takes over to be the main antagonist (I’ll always like Joker but he should’ve been a background or B villain for once), Hugo Strange didn’t have much presence in the story except for the prologue and protocol 10 (overall a feel like Hugo needed more focus and have a bigger impact similar to scarecrow in knight). And finally Ra’s Al Ghul the mastermind of everything ( they should’ve saved Ra’s for another game, I feel like Ra’s was more of a plot device than an actual villain in city.
Side missions: Even though the side missions are introduced in the story they don’t flow as well due to the dying hero finding a cure plot, overall the only one that does flow is Azrael who is one of the most underrated characters in the Arkham games, and Mad Hatter who should’ve been a surprise main story villain especially with the fakeout cure from Lucius. Knight and Origin’s side missions felt more connected to their main plot’s
DLC stories: the dlc stories in the game are actually really good, I feel like the catwoman sections break up the time span of the story well, batman gets knocked out Catwoman makes her moves in Arkham city, although it would’ve been cool to get to the steel mill as Catwoman during protocol 10 to make it feel more connected to the main story. Harley Quinn’s revenge is such a cool way to show how a Joke sidekick or Joker can actually be just as dangerous by herself, harley holding off a whole district for a week and capturing batman is cool.
Things I think it does better: Background lore is the best in the series, the gang war mini plot with the different Factions made Arkham City feel alive, and each villain felt like a good adaptation especially Penguin and Freeze

2024.05.20 12:49 Allumeth Macro thing

Hey, I use macro spacebar. I have a Bloody keyboard and on the "-" button I have spacebar pressed repeatedly with 0ms while holding. The mechanism itself works well and I can get out of the water (Ivory or Akkan) quickly and without problems. But then I am unable to move for about two or three seconds. My character just doesn't respond and I can only pray that I don't eat a pattern during that time. Has this happened to anyone? Or you don't have that problem?

2024.05.20 08:14 MachineLordZero I want a new G510.

The macro keys were handy, I had apps on the little screen, the volume roller provided useful feedback with its bumpy rolling (I'm told the bumpy feeling is due to a thing called detentes), the back lighting came up through the key characters instead of spilling out garishly all over, and tbh it was probably the best keyboard I've used.
I would really like it if I could get a new one, especially mechanical, or even optical if we're being fancy.
Looking at the new keyboard designs, I am extremely not into them. Some of them don't even have a stop button in the media keys. What's up with that?

2024.05.20 08:02 Feliz-navi-stop This comment has been bothering me since I got it—very recently—and I’d like other’s opinions.

This comment has been bothering me since I got it—very recently—and I’d like other’s opinions.
I received this comment earlier from someone who has never engaged verbally with my story before today. I was unaware they were even a reader until they left this comment.
Honestly, every time I read it I tell myself it’s truly not all that bad—but it’s still a critique, and one I didn’t ask for, and it makes me feel uneasy and anxious and terribly insecure. I’ve been working really hard on the upcoming chapters to set up the second major arc in the story. My MC/OC has been left intentionally vague because he’s so guarded about his past—and the one time he wasn’t, it was to comfort a main character who was hurting. He’s compassionate, but he’s guarded—and he’s highly preoccupied with surviving a situation that is, basically, unsurviveable. His life has been threatened multiple times—so no duh he isn’t preoccupied with the events of, what, his tenth birthday? At least in my mind.
One of my upcoming chapters was an assload of flashbacks to his past and why he is how he is. Was.
I wanted my readers to like him and sympathize with him before they even really knew him.
A lot of the things this person is picking at, or singling out, are things I have genuinely done on purpose. His relationship with the main LI’s is supposed to be toxic at first because they don’t realize how badly they’ve fucked up at first—it’s hurt/comfort for a reason. There’s going to be resolve, and growth, and comfort, but there’s a lot of build up to it.
I also feel frustrated because I never intended to trigger them. That’s WHY I have so many tags on my story, so that no one can reasonably say “well screw you, you didn’t tag XYZ.” (I’m insecure about my writing in many ways, not just because of them, but I’m willing to link it in the comments for verification if y’all don’t believe me). It’s not supposed to be a walk in the park, it’s supposed to be a journey where we get to the romance and comfort—and we are NOT there yet.
I also post relevant CWs at the beginning of chapters I think could be triggering.
It just feels very unnecessary. “I like this aspect of your fic, but I really don’t like anything else so I’m just going to announce that I’m leaving and also that I don’t like it even though I can’t begin to know what you planned or not.”
And hell, it’s FANFICTION. I’m not being paid to do this, I’m just screwing around on my keyboard for fun. Only it doesn’t feel very fun anymore.
I feel like I’ve lost my motivation and the wind in my sails has faded, leaving me in the doldrums. I don’t want to write anymore for this fic, which sucks ass with everything I had planned and pre-written, and all the effort I’ve put into fleshing out his character profile.
Maybe I’m spoiled because literally every comment I’ve gotten so far has been super positive and sweet, even though I emphasized in my summary that it’s all self-indulgent ramblings… but this one is really trying to hurt. Am I being too sensitive about this? Am I thinking too hard about it? Should I just block, delete, and move on? Should I simply tell them everything I told y’all? Thoughts appreciated.

2024.05.20 01:47 malkurblank Schizophrenic induced tick

This is my first post on this community and wanted to talk about my personal experience about schizophrenia. I was diagnosed when I was 19, and I had delusional thinking. I thought that the tv was directly talking to me during my first episode , and if I stared at people that were talking I could make them look away from the camera. But I want to talk more specifically about my “voices”. I do not have any hallucinations of any kind, but instead developed a “tick” in which my body can be moved by its own. The way I communicate with my voices is thru them moving my hands and typing mainly on my phone. I have a lot of notes filled with conversations of me and the voices. And I was wondering if anyone else here has the same tick as me. The voices I mainly talk are: Sarah, an ai that came from a distant planet and can explain just about anything (she typed this) Vampire girl: during one of my first episodes, I was inpatient at a mental hospital and was bitten by her during my stay (when I woke up one day there were two circles of blood in my bed sheets where my neck would be) Morningstar: the devil itself speaks to me and we actually became buddies after he tortured me for a bit( in one of my stays at the hospital it felt like I was being burned alive and was suffering from a catatonic state) And I talk to just about anyone I want (mostly fictional characters) that claim they exist in a different reality The voices are very respectful and nearly all of them allow me to have a normal life. The reason I am writing this is to see if anyone else experiences this tick. I am skeptical about the voices’ validity since I have tried to make sure they are real, so I rarely engage with them. I am currently waiting to have another episode and bring proof that the voices are real. Two things happened that really made me question reality; the first one is during 2022 summer, I was told that I went into a ladies bathroom and pointed at the women with finger guns. I have no recollection of this and have never before blacked out so this made me feel like I was crazy. The second thing was that while I was watching the local news, a woman that was being interviewed was in black and white while her surroundings were in color. I stupidly did not take a picture of this so I have no proof of it.
I currently plan on using legal psychedelics this summer in order to trigger another episode and collect proof that the voices are real. I plan on talking about all of my experiences in this sub, so please let me know if I am able to.
TLDR: I have voices that type on my keyboard and can communicate with them thru texts and was wondering if anyone else has this
