2024.05.14 08:04 crapponaspatula If you take antibiotics/herbals and are not getting better, please look into any possible CoQ10, B12, and molybdenum deficiencies. All 3 are needed to process sulfur in the body.

I currently have a B12 and CoQ10 deficiency and have been supplementing both and have found that my symptoms are improving. While I'm not low in molybdenum, I could use more of it. Do be sure to add in a B complex vitamin eventually as high dose B12 supplementation can lower the other B vitamins in your body. High dose molybdenum can also cause low copper as well, so I would add in a copper supplement eventually if you experience symptoms of a deficiency. Get your copper levels tested before supplementing though as too much copper can be dangerous.
Some of you may be deficient in one or all of these, meaning you likely have impaired sulfur processing pathways as a result.
This goes along with what Dr. Greg Nigh wrote in his book titled "The Devil in the Garlic".
Aldo, the body needs sulfate in order to live. This is why Dr. Nigh recommends taking magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) baths to maintain that body's sulfate reserve. Sulfate is absorbed into the body while bypassing the gastrointestinal system. He recommends soaking in 4 cups each day for over a week and then taking those baths periodically. Personally, this is WAY too much for me. I can only handle a couple of teaspoons at the moment.
I've been able to tolerate more sulfur-based foods since supplementing the aformentioned vital nutrients, however.
The mold/H2s connection: If you have mycotoxins - specifically gliotoxin - that is a sulfur-based one. Gliotoxins feed H2s bacteria. So, if your case is based on mold toxicity, try detoxing from gliotoxin and see if you get better. Gliotoxins can be detoxed using clays (e.g. bentonite clay) and probiotics.

2024.05.14 07:54 Dramatic-Ad8726 How long does it take to see significant imrpovements ? I am worried about my career.

Guys I got tested for vitamin b12 in January and it came out to be 247pg/ml. I live in a third world country and had to convince by doctor to treat me . This sub has helped me a lot in that aspect as doctors at my place do not understand b12 really well.
I was given injections(via IV) once a week for 9 weeks until March and then later given the following tablets which i am taking right now once a day:
Though some of my physical symptoms have improved, I still have some neurological and heavy psychologcial symptoms bothering me. Should I be pateint and wait for improvement or am I being under treated?
ALso should I get psychiatric meds to manage my mental health or would things get normal with time?

2024.05.14 07:29 No_Pressure_2337 What is causing these symptoms?

26 female, 200 pounds, 5 months postpartum, diagnosed hypertension, vape, no alcohol.
Currently taking: Labetelol 100mg twice daily, and a water pill (cannot think of name and have a sleeping baby)
So since about 8 weeks gestation I started itching.I have been itching since. It’s mostly at night, and it’s worse on my feet. My other symptoms are dizziness, runny nose, sneezing, headache, brain fog, faintness, feeling my heartbeat, skin crawling, blackness creeping at corner of eyes, shaking, joint pain that comes and goes, frequent UTI, heightened anxiety, overall weakness in joints/muscles.
I have cut out detergent with dyes and fragrance, I have took my BP medicine and water pills, I’ve cut down salt intake, I shower regularly, I’m getting enough sleep when I’m not itching. However I am still ill feeling. I am going to the hospital to take more blood work done as my thyroid hormone is low. However I’ve been going to the clinic over these symptoms for almost 10 months and I cannot live like this anymore as well as my insurance runs out soon. I care for a baby primarily all day feeling like I might faint, and itchy constantly at night causing a loss of sleep sometimes.
I recently had blood work done: (I had my gallbladder removed 2 months ago but all of these symptoms were present before.)

2024.05.14 06:40 D33zNtz Duck Question (Mixed-Flock)

Duck Question (Mixed-Flock)
Delete if not allowed.
Male Pekin Duck, roughly 7 months old.
Was away for training for the last few months and was in the care of a sitter. Upon returning home I noticed that he was having difficulty getting out of the kiddie pool. Later that same day I notice he was having extreme difficulty walking so I moved him inside to a hospital set-up for further evaluation and treatment.
Has taken on a pigeon-toed stance, become very skittish to humans, and I suspect he may have gotten picked on but unable to confirm that. I noticed he has extreme difficulty walking, and stumbles at times, caught him using his wings for balance once or twice too.
I'm split between this being a vitamin issue, or an injury. If he was being bullied that would explain the vitamin deficiency as all the other ducks and chickens are their normal selves, no issues.
They've all ate an All-Flock feed, 17% protein, which I mix with Pampered Chicken Mama Brewer's Yeast, as well as the vitamin topper pellets in the yellow and white plastic container.
I have since isolated and started administering Niacin tablets in powdered form to his water, along with 1 cc daily of Poultry Cell, as well as adding peas to the kiddie pool I brought up for him while he's inside being treated.
When I place him in the pool he displays typical duck behavior, splashing, cleaning, flapping wings, etc. You'd never think there was an issue with him in water so that's atleast one positive I suppose.
He's the only duck in this shape, with this condition. The chickens are doing great, the other 5 ducks are doing fine, and in some cases even more active (3 Mallards and 3 Pekins, 6 total but 5 outside with him being in treatment).
I placed him outside for a bit today under supervision to see if anything changes. He stayed to himself, away from everyone else. Similar to the behavior I noticed upon returning home.
Sitter got fired.

2024.05.14 06:39 Enginesillver I've been taking natural estrogen supplements and applying phyto-estrogen cream for about a year and noticed my armpit hair starting to grow again... but only in my right armpit. There's no hair at all in my left armpit. Anyone have any idea what this could mean? (Sorry for a silly question.)

Edited to add:
I'm 50 and deep into peri but still having (irregular) periods.
Recently had a gyno visit and everything was okay except Vitamin D deficiency.
So, they had me get a Vitamin D injection.
Now that I come to think of it, I thought it was weird that my number was 18 when the normal range was over 30.
I take tons of supplements and some of them overlap, so I was actually worried that I had too much Vitamin D (and others), but no, it turns out my Vitamin D level was super low.

2024.05.14 06:36 No-Mood-7634 Dosage

I had a b12 deficiency a couple years back. I since got it raised per April 2023. I haven’t had my levels checked since. What maintenance dose should I be taking? I’m concerned it’s back again with the way I’m feeling. 😩
Once I realized my levels were up April of 2023. I began to lack on taking my b12 figuring I was fine. I take 500 mcg now and when I was deficient I took 100mcg. Am I able to just start the 1000 mcg again?

2024.05.14 06:21 gluten_kills Excerpt from Academic Textbook on SIBO

The following short section comes from a book entitle "Microbial Inhabitants of Humans," written my Michael Wilson in 2005. I thought that some of you may find it helpful.
Contaminated small bowel syndrome:
In comparison with the large intestine, the number of microbes in the small intestine is very small. This is due to a combination of factors, including the low pH of the region, the rapid peristalsis which reduces transit time, and local host defenses. Impairment of any of these results in an increase in the microbial population, and the is known as "contaminated small bowel syndrome" or "bacterial overgrowth syndrome". The major causes include anatomical abnormalities o the gut, gut obstruction, disordered gut motility, reduced gastric acidity, and infection of the biliary duct.
The main symptoms associated with the syndrome include steatorrhoea (increased faecal fat) and vitamin B12 deficiency. The increased microbial load in the small intestine results in rapid deconjugation of bile salts, creating water-insoluble free bile acids which are not reabsorbed and recycled. This eventually depletes the levels of bile salts in the small intestine so that micelle formation does not take place. Consequently, fat is not absorbed and is excreted.
The small intestine is an important site of vitamin B12 absorption. This vitamin binds to intrinsic factor produced by the stomach, and the resulting complex is then absorbed. However, the vitamin is also needed by many bacterial species, and large numbers of bacteria will rapidly reduce its concentration, thus depriving the host of this important dietary constituent. Vitamin B12 deficiency ultimately leads to megaloblastic anaemia.
Other maifestations of the syndrome include carbohydrate malabsorption, hypoproteinaemia, and diarrhea. Treatment involves the surgical correction of any abnormalities, the administration of antibiotics, and vitamin supplementation.

2024.05.14 05:52 Strange-Cold-5192 Extremely loose, baggy skin (EDS-like), but only from head to shoulders

This has been bugging me for awhile now, and I think I have some pictures up on an old post showing me pulling skin off my neck/jaw area (and note: it got even worse since). My doctor gave me a referral for a dermatologist, but I still have some time before the appointment.
As I stated above, I can pull my facial skin almost like I have EDS; however, I have no other symptoms of EDS, and the skin laxity ends around my shoulders/collarbone. EDS was the first thing my doctor said before I showed her I did not have the same laxity on my forearms.
I’m only 27 (and male, 5’10”, 225lbs— probably useful info), but I’m becoming horribly prematurely aged, and it’s killing my confidence. The bizarre thing is, though, is that my skin quality is actually looking really good. Red light therapy has made my complexion look better than it has in years, cleared old scar tissue from pimples I popped, and gotten rid of all but a few stubborn forehead wrinkles I’ve developed from raising my brows to keep my vision clear of excess skin and my nasolabial folds. My skin is soft and thick, almost too thick, and it’s like almost like everything underneath the skin has melted. I really think that’s the problem— the fat and muscles that once held my face together are either disappearing or dropping, and I’m left with one amorphous, gelatinous blood pooling into my jowls and neck. Despite being overweight, I can feel every last bump and crevice in my cheeks, around my eyes, along my jaw and brow, etc. Yet the skin just covers over all of it like a mask, and it just makes me look fat (and as I just said, I am overweight, but my upper body does not look horribly so. I have massive legs, so people often think I’m a good 20-30lbs less than I really am). But it’s like all the fat has drained off my face and is sinking downward.
I’m at a loss. I keep thinking it can’t get worse, but it does. It’s affecting my vision, it makes my head feel heavy, I can feel my skin fold with every movement of my neck. Obviously, it’s destroyed my confidence and desire to be in public or date. And now as I read about stuff like acquired cutis laxa, I’m worried it could even be tied to stuff like cancer.
It’s worth noting that these symptoms really took off after a COVID infection. My case was very mild, but it was afterwards that things got bad. Tremors, spasms, heart palpitations, blood pressure spikes, brain fog, joint pain, muscle strains, you name it, I probably had it. I lost fat passing in my hands and wrists as well (strange thing to notice, but very evident as a powerlifter, golfer, and baseball player. Things start feeling different in your hands, your gloves stop fitting right, stuff like that). The tremors, heart palpitations, and all that cleared up last November after I upped my water intake from about a half gallon to at least one gallon a day, and all labwork was normal, if not better than before I was sick (no more vitamin D deficiency, testosterone up as my prolactinoma was finally under control after several years), except for positive antihistone antibodies. The rheumatologist said not to worry about it for now because everything else was normal, and he expected I had had an inflammatory reaction to the virus and the flare up was over.
I’m at my wit’s end. This is ruining my life, and not one doctor aside from my PCP seems to care because they dismiss it as a cosmetic concern.

2024.05.14 05:33 knifedude What could cause rapidly worsened atrophic scarring?

I’ve had bad acne for over a decade and would get the occasional atrophic scar from large zits. My acne is much more in control than it ever used to be from improving my skincare and health habits.
But something’s changed within the last 6 months that’s resulted in every acne lesion on my face leaving a dramatic pitted scar. Over this period of time I’ve acquired numerous new scars that have seriously changed the landscape of my face. My acne at this point is so much milder than it used to be but now I can expect even small whiteheads to leave a permanent dent.
I don’t mind the appearance of the scars themselves so much as the alarming nature of how much worse my scarring has become. Is there a particular vitamin deficiency or other health issue that could be causing this? Or is it normal for collagen production to dramatically tank in your late 20s?

2024.05.14 05:33 mermaiddayjob PCOS med & supplements your take?

Curious to know what medications and supplements others are taking and what you’ve found the most helpful.
I currently take daily: Birth control (generic yaz) Metformin 1000mg Daily multivitamin Vitamin D (always deficient even with multi vitamin)
Not daily (because I’m bad at routines) but a few times a week I take ovasitol and L-glutamine. The latter is not totally for pcos but helps with ibs bloating and anecdotally seems to help with cravings.
I’m prescribed but not currently taking 50mg spironolactone. I have some excess face hair and experience really oily hair and body acne. Debating starting it again for those reasons but I struggle with muscle cramps and dry skin from it and am not sure I really need it.
I also have NAC supplements that I used to take before I was prescribed metformin last year. I plan to start adding NAC in again because I feel so inflamed and puffy and NAC seemed to really help with that in addition to helping some obsessive behavior and thoughts. I’m only nervous as I have seen a study that suggested NAC and metformin are effective on their own but have reduced effectiveness when combined. On the other hand I see so many people on pcos taking them together with positive results.
All together I often get supplement fatigue by trying to take all of these thing and monitor effects! That being said I am really struggling with my weight and pcos symptoms lately and am feeling desperate for some progress so feel like maybe it is all worth it. Does anyone else get overwhelmed with all the meds and supplements? What do you take and what works for you?

2024.05.14 05:16 Plastic_Pie_2576 my story with anxiety

just wanted to share my experience and get some advice or suggestions, open to any especially if someone has also experienced the same thing. Anxiety and stress is genetic throughout my family but just up til about recently I have experienced my first severe panic attack. About a week ago I was having fun feeling relaxed and decided to take a hit of a weed pen that my friend had gotten from a vape store. I usually never smoke weed nor like it because it has always given me an experience of panic and paranoia that i did not enjoy. I then decided to take a few hits and nothing happened and i did not feel it or any effects off of it so i took one more hit of it and after about 20-30 mins i had gotten up out of bed and this big sorta rush feeling came right over me and i instantly freaked out and could feel my heart beating out of my chest. i had to lay down with my face in a blanket just to feel somewhat okay. eventually it had whore off... next day i wake up completely fine then after a few hours i feel that terrible feeling again come up over me and it sorta felt like i was high again so i started freaking out and my heart began to race. I took some benadryl seemed to subside the horrible feelings. next day I woke up with symptoms of depersonalization/ derealization. this is what i would say i usually experience while "high" but this was actually the worst I have ever felt. I had to run outside and sit down, i started bawling and my heart felt like it was beating uncontrollably. I looked around and it felt like I was all alone stuck in a dream like I wasn't even real. Since then it has been a couple of days with my symptoms decreasing slowly. every now and then i feel scared and have the fear of the feeling coming back and my heart racing. I do wake up sometimes in the middle of the night with my heart racing with difficulty of breathing. I have mostly been taking benadryl and vitamin D to help. I am trying to stay away from medications. but What seems to be really worrying me is my lack of concentration and control. I always feel drowsy and can't seem to concentrate and have a hard time with remembering things. I think the cause of the anxiety and fear was the cannabis pen. i am just looking for ways to relax my mind, and i am always stuck on the thought if im forever going to feel like this. before this incident i have never experienced things like this before, im not sure if i am only having anxiety because of my experience with the weed or it had actually opened me up to anxiety if that makes sense. only worry now seems to be getting my concentration back and feeling like i am a real person again and enjoying things like how i used to, has anyone else who has smoked or has anxiety experienced this? im wondering if the depersonalization is just from the weed or the anxiety itself and if it will be long term or subside. slowly tho the days have been getting better with little to none mini panic attacks

2024.05.14 05:01 strawberrysp0 i didn’t realize my vitamin d was that low?

i just found this sub and i genuinely didn’t realize how like low my vitamin d was before my doctor said this to me. i was at the endocrinologist for some other health issues my bloodwork i had done with my PCP had found (the same bloodwork that revealed my vitamin d was at a 3.9) and when she was looking it over she turned to me and seemed genuinely so shocked and said “your vitamin d is VERY low. like very low.” and i said “yeah haha i’m taking 50000 IU once a week for it for 24 weeks” (i laugh when idk what to say😭) and she then looked at me and said in her over ten years of practicing as an endocrinologist she has never seen a vitamin d level as low as mine. she’s seen 10, she’s seen 11, but never a 3.9. i didn’t realize my vitamin d was that low because when i told other ppl in my life when i got the bloodwork back that my vitamin d was really low they said “we all get like that after winter!”
i guess this is a long (annoying) way to ask if it is actually that low? nobody in my family has had a vitamin d deficiency before so is it uncommon for it to reach 3.9? i go for bloodwork again tomorrow to check on how it’s rising since i’ve been taking it for 6 weeks. so ig we shall see.

2024.05.14 05:00 llamamama5879 Iron deficiency and BV

Has anyone found any correlation between iron deficiency and BV?
Like many, I’ve been dealing with what I just found out was BV with a mild yeast infection for a year or so (both following a few rounds of antibiotics). It usually comes on the week before my period. I took multiple doses of diflucan and did monistat over the course but it didn’t help.
I finally saw my OB and she did a culture which confirmed BV. She said the PH level the week before my period makes it a perfect space for the BV bacteria to grow.
I’m terrified to take more antibiotics and ruin my gut any more so I’m trying a more natural approach at first. A light went off recently when I was reading my Evvy results which recommended Lactoferrin which has also been recommended as a supplement to help my iron deficiency (without anemia). That said, I’m curious if anyone has seen a good outcome from increasing iron (via iron and lactoferrin). Im also taking vitamin c.
I did notice my flare was much more mild this time but I can’t be certain until another few cycles. Just curious if anyone else can relate.

2024.05.14 04:36 Sticcystic Do ships' rats get scurvy?

Non-sailor here:
So, I'm going down the Franklin expedition rabbit hole again because I found a Nat Geo mag with an article on it. I got to thinking about how the men suffered from scurvy and how their lemon juice became ineffective after a while. In the case of Franklin's crew they had canned provisions which may have kept the vitamin-C past four years. But what if those crews that never had them?
So all of this to say, the ship is kind of like its own ecosystem, with a critical nutrient being unavailable to all of the organisms in it. Would the mice also die of scurvy eventually? Or at least their version of vitamin-C deficiency?
Because if not, the Franklin's crew on the boat could've potentially eaten the mice, for whatever negligible boost that may have granted them.
I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

just wanted to share my experience and get some advice or suggestions, open to any especially if someone has also experienced the same thing. I took some benadryl seemed to subside the horrible feelings. next day I woke up with symptoms of depersonalization/derealization. this is what i would say i usually experience while "high" but this was actually the worst I have ever felt.

2024.05.14 04:25 tssriram Having trouble with multiple issues, but seems to be connected somehow. Please advice.

Hello, I am 25M vegetarian and lead a relatively normal life. However I have several issues that seem to degrade quality of life. They seem connected but not sure.
  1. Foot pain: Initially went to a Podiatrist and was prescribed insoles for mild flat feet. Did not work and severe pain persisted. Still persists today, but I came to realize that the pain is coming from foot cramps. The pain felt similar to a cramp but I never made the connection. I get severe foot cramps even if I do very little exercise or walking. Timeline: ~ 4years
  2. During the timeline of 1., I also thought a lot of my problems were led by dehydration and then ,later found out that it could be a possible cause of the foot pain. However, I have been ensuring before and after the pain that I drink enough water a day. I pee more often that required and its usually not dark. Timeline: ~2 years
  3. Excessive weight gain: I usually eat a little more than the average person, but nowhere close to justifying my weight gain. I used to be much thinner when i was younger and have gained much weight since then. I am unable to lose this despite bouts of significant exercise and diet control. I am also limited by low stamina and the foot pain. Timeline: ~8 years.
  4. Numbing: My arms and legs get extremely easily numbed out. Any small weight placed on my leg/abdomen when I sleep leads to numbness quite easily. It is actually quite severe. Timeline: Quick numbness has been there for several years but last few years have been worse.
  5. Get tired and lose focus easily: This has been a general theme for several years. I am able to concentrate and get things done in small pockets of time. Timeline: Been there for several years but got worse in the last few years.
  6. Hearing: My hearing has been getting a little worse. I occasionally hear some hight pitched noise and I read that it may be the Cochlea dying or sth? But definitely been getting a little worse. Timeline: ~4 years.
  7. Had a viral infection ~1.5 years back, and when I was infected a few spots behind my head and ear enlarged. Not sure why, and the doctor at the time ignored it. It shrunk about 70%, but has remained the same size for quite some time.
  8. Protein intake: Tried taking protein shakes/bars to increase my intake due to my vegetarian diet: seemed to get more drowsy and sleepy quickly, so I stopped.
These are in order of importance/impact.
For additional context, I have taken several blood tests over the course of the last 6 years and mostly have seen Vitamin D & B12, Iron deficiencies (I have tried taking supplements for several months, didn't seem to have much effect day-to-day, but subsequent blood tests improved). Normal Thyroid. Suspected high cortisol (have some fat and hair buildup on my back): was also normal. My most recent blood tests had low testosterone and HDL was lower and triglycerides and nonHDL were high. insulin high as well. But shown the results to a physician assistant and they didn't have any input other than a referral for weight management.
No particular diagnoses or supplements. Some Ashwagandha occasionally.
Hoping anyone can give me some pointers that I can work on and maybe take to my local physician. Thank you.

2024.05.14 04:12 Spare_Tutor_8057 New diagnosis advice needed

So I’m 10 months postpartum, breastfeeding and 8 weeks pregnant (that’s another story). I’ve been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, low normal iron and low normal b12.
I’m feeling like absolute hell. Short of breath. Tired down to my bones. Seeing spots especially when exercising. Heart palpitations, Puffy face, ankles, a lump that comes and goes under my chin. Weight gain that hasn’t budged with work outs, depression and apathy, bloating, loss of appetite to name a few.
I’ve had these symptoms before (never this bad though) and after an iron transfusion felt a lot better so I thought I was probably anaemic again, but after the routine tests for pregnancy the thyroid issue was brought to light.
My results are as such
TSH (mIU/L) (0.40 - 4.00)
2.07 1.41 0.60 3.31 (Most recent) 5.00
FT4 (pmol/L) (10 - 20)
10
Ferratin (30-200)
48
In pregnancy the doctor wants to see levels of TSH between 0.05 - 3.5 mU/L in first trimester, so she’s put me on a 50mg dose of Levothyroxine. She did not test me for any antibodies or T3. However my mum has hypothyroidism so I wouldn’t be suprised if it’s genetic and not postpartum acquired.
I have been halving my dose because I have been feeling extreme drowsiness after taking my tablets in the morning, is this a normal response?
Did any breastfeeding mothers find levo helped their milk supply?
Also does anyone have any vitamin supplements recommendations, when and how to take them. It would be much appreciated.
Thank you

2024.05.14 04:08 trianglespacerock ADVICE ON HOW TO TAKE THESE SUPPLEMENTS.

Hello there guys. So a few days ago I went to the get a blood work done and it went well. I still asked my doctor if it would be okay if I take VITAMIN D3, B12, MAGNESIUM , ZINC AND CALCIUM since I honestly don't eat something daily that will give that kind of minerals. He said "Its okay you can. it wouldn't hurt"
Moments later I realized I didn't ask him how to properly take them... and I tried to call the doctors office and he is on medical leave now. So based on your experience I would like to ask you what's the best way to take the following vitamins. VITAMIN D3, B12 , MAGNESIUM , ZINC AND CALCIUM.
Also. any advices or what could be the best MAGNESIUM with more absorption since I know there's different kinds of it.
Thank you very much.
