WARNING: I talk a lot.
Quick background: 2021 was the year I first listened to BNL. All I heard were their big singles from Gordon, Stunt and Maroon (One Week, Pinch Me, It's All Been Done, etc.). But in 2022, I listened to Gordon in full, and it impressed me. Then I checked out Stunt, and let me tell you, from the bottom of my heart, I ADORE that album. I also listened to Maroon, and while good, I'd honestly rather pick the other two over it.
Last year I listened to MYSD, BoaPS and Rock Spectacle to feed the itch. And this month, I listened to EtE and BLAM (can we call this a double album?).
Here's my basic rundown on all of them:
context: this is from the perspective of a Gen-Z'er. Can confirm the quality crosses generations.
Hopefully I don't piss too many people off with my opinions.
1). Gordon: very good
-Best tracks: Grade 9, Brian Wilson (duh), Wrap Your Arms Around Me, What a Good Boy, Box Set, I Love You, The Flag, Million Dollars (classic)
-Weakest track: probably New Kid (on the Block). It's the one song I rarely revisit for some reason. Probably because it sounds too much like Enid and Box Set.
=More jazzier than I thought
=Very uncommon to see a band take off running on their debut record. Each of these songs can stand firmly on their own with few exceptions, which is something I always value in albums. This is required listening if you want to know what BNL are all about (at least, in their earlier days, sonically speaking).
2). Maybe You Should Drive: not bad. Pretty good.
-Best tracks: Jane (feels like a song this Spanish artist my dad loves named Jose Luis Perales would make), These Apples, A (I love the drum outro), Am I the Only One?, Life in a Nutshell
-Least favorite track: I will be Waiting (too twee for me. I feel like I'm listening to Hey There Delilah, and I actually like that song).
=probably the one I come back to the least. Not because it's bad by any means, but their other albums feel more memorable. Sitting next to Gordon, this doesn't really compare. There's also more electric guitars, compared to Gordon being very acoustic-based.
=There's some other songs I remember loving like Great Provider, but idk, this feels like a middle-of-the-road type of album. Still a good 7 or light 8, however. It does also have some of Tyler's best drum tones.
3). Born on aPile of Pirate Ship: damn good
-Best tracks: This is where it ends (Jesus, Steve), When I Fall (Jesus Ed, I didn't expect this to be about a suicidal window-washer), I Live with it Every Day (Jesus, Steve.......), Break your Heart (Jesus Christ, Steve.....), Same Thing (really somber for a song that references the Fantastic Four), Shoebox
-Weakest tracks: Straw Hat and Old Dirty Hank, and I Know. Both are alright, but they scream "B-Side" tbh. Definitely could've been cut out.
=Overall, as you could probably pick up from my favorite tracks, I think I love this album because of how somber and introspective it gets. Some of their most crushing songs are on here. Though Shoebox does close it out on a more light-hearted note (at least sonically).
4). Stunt: my favorite
-Best tracks (so many!): Call and Answer (one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, which is something I don't say lightly), It's all been Done (my favorite BNL guitar solo), In the Car, Who Needs Sleep (that chorus is the most earwormy thing they've done), Some Fantastic, When you Dream
-Weakest track: if we're including the bonus tracks, definitely She's on Time. Feels very samey and borderline uninteresting.
If going by the normal track listing, Alcohol. And even then, it's only really because I haven't revisited it as much as the others. That, and I don't think it works that well as the song that precedes Call and Answer.
=Like I said, I dunno man, there's something magical about this record that makes me swoon over it. Probably not their overall best, but definitely my favorite. It's an album I can describe as one I'd like to take with me on a desert island.
=It's bright, loud, but also tender.
=That said, my one peeve is the track listing isn't perfect. Mostly speaking, It's all been done honestly could work amazingly as one of the closing tracks. And Call and Answer I feel would work better if it was placed after Who Needs Sleep or something, instead of being the smack-dab middle song. There's a reason this was a live staple and show-closer.
=Still, as a whole/unit, I love Stunt.
=I think I have 80-90% of the verses to One Week memorized.
5). Maroon: Good, but I prefer some of their other albums.
-Best tracks: Pinch Me (this BNL song means a lot to me, lyrically. I tend to spin it whenever I'm going through a tough time mentally. It's also a good guitar warm-up), Never do Anything, Falling for the First Time, Off the Hook, Helicopters, Tonight is the Night......, Hidden Sun (Kevin knows how to do lullabies)
-Weakest tracks: Too Little Too Late, Go Home, Humor of the Situation (catchy as it is)
=Like Pirate Ship, the strongest moments lie in the serious tracks.
=This is my "hot" take: I don't love Maroon as much as everyone else does. Big reason is because Steve sings lead on most of the album. And look, I love the man as much as the next guy, and his voice is undeniably godlike, but ngl, there's something about Steve and Ed sharing vocals (or having an equal number of songs they sing lead on) that I really love. Another reason I love Stunt, they each get a good number of songs to shine in. I know the trade-in is Steve & Ed had a whole Lennon-McCartney/Collingwood-Schlesinger writing credit thing to my knowledge, but still, maybe Ed could've sung lead on at least 1 or 2 other songs (Steve still absolutely slays the performances on all his songs, no doubt).
=Even then, I can't call Maroon a "Steve Page solo" album either, as that sort of BNL signature quirkiness and cleverness that comes from the Page-Robertson duo is still found (Never do Anything, Sell Sell Sell).
=I also sometimes think it's not as interesting sonically. I liked Stunt because of how distinct nearly every track was, but Off the Hook and Helicopters, great songs as they are, can feel samey. I feel Maroon lacks some of that extra energy and punch.
=But still, a really solid record. And I definitely don't blame anyone for saying it's their favorite/BNL's best. Pinch Me is still one of the most intimate and personal BNL songs for me, as someone who struggles with anxiety and occasionally, self-harm (hope that wasn't too TMI, but I'm very well right now).
Alright, these next three I barely listened to for the first time this past weekend, so these are my quicker, fresh thoughts. We'll see how they change by next year.
6). Everything to Everyone:
-best tracks: Another Postcard (Ed's verses are too damn catchy), Testing 123 (a fantastic meta track that leaves me smiling. It's weirdly uplifting, if introspective), Next Time, Shopping, War on Drugs (I feel I'm only going to love this more with time), Aluminum (pretty somber), the last three songs
-least favorite: Unfinished. And it's literally only because I can't remember how it goes again. Again, I just listened to this album on Saturday. Give me time.
=I hyped myself up for this album a bit. It feels pretty ambitious
=I'd listen to this over Maroon because of the more varied sounds. Shopping has some nifty electronica, For You is more softer and acoustic-laced, and Maybe Katie leans more on Old Apartment style guitar power.
7). Barenaked Ladies are Me: very simple, but in a perfected way.
-best tracks: Easy, Home (this is I will be waiting, but infinitely better), Peterborough and the Kawarthas, Maybe you're right (the emotional climax of the record in the key of C), the last 4 tracks (a lot of the track listing is a home run).
-weakest track: Everything had Changed
=I can't remember when, but at what point, I couldn't help but smile and think "God I love this band!"
8). Barenaked Ladies are Men: still good, but Are Me was undeniably better
-best tracks: Serendipity, Down to Earth, Beautiful (I love those whispered lines Steve does), Half a Heart, Maybe not, I Can I Will I Do, What a Letdown, Fun and Games (really neat tone that treads on black humor)
-weakest tracks: Something you'll never find (it ends great, but overall, the song goes for longer than it should), Angry People
=Definitely not as great as Are Me. Biggest reason is it's too long. Cut out a few songs, maybe rearrange the track listing, and it would work better. But even then, are Me had a better streak of top notch songs. Are Men feels at times like a bonus album, as opposed to being an equal to are Me.
=Still worth listening to, but again, it didn't need to be 16 songs.
=Of course, with almost 30 songs recorded, I'm not going to remember all of them. Come back to me maybe next year when they've all sunken in for me.
So yeah! That's my two cents on all of the main Steven Page BNL releases! There's something great in each of these records, and I wouldn't take back any of it. My new favorite band.
My ranking from best to weakest
I'll listen to the Post-Steven albums next year. I'm more than certain they're not as great, but I liked Daydreaming, Odds Are, and Get Back.
I listened to the Vanity Project last year, and I thought it was alright. Page One tho......OH MY GOD IT'S SO GOOD YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! Clifton Springs is another "tough times" song I come back to.
Random side-note: I will always associate BNL with Evangelion. Don't ask (or do, idk).

Biography:
Benedict was born in the year of Aegon's second crowning, to Steffon Bracken and Aglantine Bushy. The only son of the thirdborn Steffon, Ned was never seriously considered nor prepared for rule. He was counted among the many boys growing up in the ancient castle. But for whatever reason, he was slow to speak. Words were rarely said, if that. Though the maester deemed him not to be a mute, his work did little to improve Ned's speech. His uncle Wyl, the master-at-arms of Stone Hedge, deemed it to be an issue of the body and declared that he would not stand idle while his kin suffered. Soon after Ned began serving him as a page, following his uncle in the man's routines. The master-at-arms' constant training did not improve Benedict's soft spoken nature, but it did make the boy hale and healthy.
As a squire in a rather peaceful time in the Seven Kingdoms, Benedict spent many of his days in drills, working beside his favorite cousin, Walton. Among the things he struggled with was the shield. To swing with one hand and block with the other always felt unnatural to him. When Ned was large enough, Walton recommended to his father that he teach him to use two-handed weapons. He took to it like a duck on water, becoming very handy with greatswords as time went on.
Fortunes turned suddenly in 18 AC. Walton, a knight with freshly earned spurs, was directed to deliver a message to King's Landing. It was there he was killed brutally, in a duel of honor against the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Malwyn Blackwood. An old blood feud once again wettened by red. When word of this reached Stone Hedge, Lord Bracken raised Ned's father and his grieving uncle Wyl and crossed the Red Fork with a force of two hundred men. In the midst of night, they arrived at the hall of the Blackwoods and brought retaliation by burning the castle's manor. Though the guards of the keep fought back, they were surprised and on the back foot. It was Ned's first battle, in which he saved his lord uncle from injury by running down a crossbowman who drew his sights on Lord Bracken. The morning after, their cloaks reeking of woodsmoke and their steel bloodied, the lord knighted his nephew.
This was not the end to the conflict between Blackwood and Bracken. It was only the first of a series of raids conducted between the two houses; as villages were razed and riders bushwhacked. Benedict took part in a number of these skirmishes. His skill at fighting afoot was further honed in these, fighting in the way the First Men must had surely done in that same wilderness a thousand years prior. The eventual culmination in these raids was thousands of men being rallied to each side; an all out war imminent. As quick as the conflict had began, however, it ended suddenly at the urging of the Lord of Aegon's Rest, whose massive dragon forced both sides to abscond from the battlefield before a result could be had.
Ned Bracken returned to a family and keep that was forever changed by what had occurred. Difficult as it was, they tread into another peaceful, albeit tense, era. He was now the eldest of the Bracken's youngest generation, and found himself often acting as a protector and confidante for them. In particular, he rode beside the heir of Stone Hedge, Dickon, to a number of tourneys and celebrations throughout the Kingdoms. Though only an adequate rider, he learned quite a bit from the older knights at these tourneys, particularly as they battered their lances against him constantly. He came out smarter, somehow.
When rumor came from King's Landing that a member of the Kingsguard was on death's door, Lord Beck dispatched his nephew to the city; ostensibly to deliver a small missive to to a minor office holder. In reality, Bracken was sent to the capital to await the death of the sickly Kingsguard. After the man passed, Benedict was among the shortlist of candidates. Beck's gambit paid off when his nephew was sworn into the Kingsguard in 23 AC.
Shortly thereafter was Ned sent to Dorne, one of the three whitecloaks attached to the Targaryens of Summerhall. Queen Rhaenys then assigned him primarily to guard her son, Aenar. Two years have past since. As Aenar draws near to his eighteenth birthday, time will tell what else Ned will face.
Timeline:
• 1 AC: Benedict is born to Steffon and Aglantine Bracken.
• 7 AC: Benedict is made a page of his uncle, Ser Wyl Bracken.
• 9 AC: He is made a squire of Ser Wyl, alongside his cousin, Walton.
• 18 AC: The Riverwar. Walton is killed, Ned is knighted.
• 19 AC: Ned travels to various tourneys beside his kin.
• 23 AC: Ned joins the Kingsguard at his uncle's behest. He is sent to Highwatch.
• 25 AC: Present Day.

To swing with one hand and block with the other always felt unnatural to him. When Ned was large enough, Walton recommended to his father that he teach him to use two-handed weapons. He took to it like a duck on water, becoming very handy with greatswords as time went on.
Fortunes turned suddenly in 18 AC. Walton, a knight with freshly earned spurs, was directed to deliver a message to King's Landing. It was there he was killed brutally, in a duel of honor against the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Malwyn Blackwood. An old blood feud once again wettened by red. When word of this reached Stone Hedge, Lord Bracken raised Ned's father and his grieving uncle Wyl and crossed the Red Fork with a force of two hundred men. In the midst of night, they arrived at the hall of the Blackwoods and brought retaliation by burning the castle's manor. Though the guards of the keep fought back, they were surprised and on the back foot. It was Ned's first battle, in which he saved his lord uncle from injury by running down a crossbowman who drew his sights on Lord Bracken. The morning after, their cloaks reeking of woodsmoke and their steel bloodied, the lord knighted his nephew.
This was not the end to the conflict between Blackwood and Bracken. It was only the first of a series of raids conducted between the two houses; as villages were razed and riders bushwhacked. Benedict took part in a number of these skirmishes. His skill at fighting afoot was further honed in these, fighting in the way the First Men must had surely done in that same wilderness a thousand years prior. The eventual culmination in these raids was thousands of men being rallied to each side; an all out war imminent. As quick as the conflict had began, however, it ended suddenly at the urging of the Lord of Aegon's Rest, whose massive dragon forced both sides to abscond from the battlefield before a result could be had.
Ned Bracken returned to a family and keep that was forever changed by what had occurred. Difficult as it was, they tread into another peaceful, albeit tense, era. He was now the eldest of the Bracken's youngest generation, and found himself often acting as a protector and confidante for them. In particular, he rode beside the heir of Stone Hedge, Dickon, to a number of tourneys and celebrations throughout the Kingdoms. Though only an adequate rider, he learned quite a bit from the older knights at these tourneys, particularly as they battered their lances against him constantly. He came out smarter, somehow.
When rumor came from King's Landing that a member of the Kingsguard was on death's door, Lord Beck dispatched his nephew to the city; ostensibly to deliver a small missive to to a minor office holder. In reality, Bracken was sent to the capital to await the death of the sickly Kingsguard. After the man passed, Benedict was among the shortlist of candidates. Beck's gambit paid off when his nephew was sworn into the Kingsguard in 23 AC.
Shortly thereafter was Ned sent to Dorne, one of the three whitecloaks attached to the Targaryens of Summerhall. Queen Rhaenys then assigned him primarily to guard her son, Aenar. Two years have past since. As Aenar draws near to his eighteenth birthday, time will tell what else Ned will face.

I've bene trying to troubleshoot BSOD errors for a friend and I've been trying to isolate the issue from the minidump files using WinDbg. The motherboard had already been replaced through warranty due to similar networking issues, however the NETIO BSOD has returned.
Previously to the new motherboard I had done numerous things including a Reset then USB reinstall of Windows.
Troubleshooting thus far post-new motherboard:

I hope someone with more experience in this area can assist in locating the culprit for the NETIO. I hope its something glaring that I'm just missing. I've had ridiculously good pack luck this year for whatever reason so the only card I've missed out on for Live Events was the 84 Randy Orton that just expired Monday morning (today). That said, it doesn't look like I'll be able to get the Action Figure Hulk Hogan but honestly, I'm okay with that as I think the model looks pretty goofy.
But to get myself back on the topic at hand, my favorite cards so far have been:
* (84) Bronson Reed - Beast Series I was elated when I pulled this bad boy the other day. I had already pulled the other Ruby (Bron Breakker) in one of the first packs I got of the Beast series so I knew that I got the man that likes to put "BIG" in front of his ring name when I saw the card glow red. He is just a brick shit-house and is probably my favorite in terms of how his gameplay can mimic his real-life move-set and the way he pulls them off. Also, he just \feels* good. Like you hit a clothesline with him or a shoulder block and it's somehow more satisfying than hitting those moves with anyone else. Plus, you got the Tsunami which is just an amazing Finisher. Definitely my absolute favorite card I have. I am about 30-35 cards away from getting the 89 Gunther though.*
* (84) Finn Balor - Live Event Reward Finn Balor is easily my favorite superstar of this generation and maybe that's strange to some of you out there but man, I'll never forget his second NXT run. I loved the way he carried himself and it felt like every single one of his matches at that time were five-star masterpieces; the Kyle O'Reilly, Adam Cole, and Damian Priest matches were some of my favorites of all-time, for whatever it's worth. So yeah, I like using Finn in 2K24 and I'm so glad that they \finally* did his corner taunt (the double guns) the right way.*
* (84) Vader - Live Event Reward Everything I said about Bronson Reed basically applies to Vader. He just feels like a concrete ball with appendages. Hitting his Finisher is so satisfying in this game, too. It's kind of funny because I really wasn't all that excited to get this card initially... now he's my go-to pick whenever I get matches against the 80s and 90s superstars.
* (82) Drew McIntyre - Sole Providers Somehow I got really lucky and pulled all the cards needed to get the (82) Shawn Michaels from the Sole Providers collection and while I do enjoy using HBK in the game, I really like this McIntyre card. Great move-set, he hits like a truck, and I love doing the corner countdown for the Claymore.
* (69) Grayson Waller - Heat Series DO NOT sleep on this card! It's weirdly amazing and honestly, I didn't expect that at all. I don't even really bother with any other male Gold cards that I have (although I do like the WM40 DLC ones... I just wish they were EVO cards). This card just wrecks shop whenever you need a Gold for a Live Event.
* (83) Tiffany Stratton - Live Event Reward Just a really fun move-set and overall, a very cool card to use. I can't wait to get a high-90s Tiffy Time.
* (83) Indi Hartwell - Backlash Series Weirdly dominant because of her high base Agility & Stamina ratings plus a pretty strong move-set that has quite a few tough to hit reverses and an excellent Finisher. I was so bummed when I turned the card over after seeing the glowing red in the pack but honestly, I'm so glad that I have her because she makes Ladder matches so quick and simple in Proving Grounds.
* (82) Bianca Belair - Proving Grounds Reward I love her ground attacks as the CPU never seem to be able to reverse most of them. You can kinda take your pick which card you like more between her Proving Grounds card and the Showcase reward one.
* (80) Gigi Dolin - MyRise Reward I have to admit that I feel like a dork for using this card as it outs you for choosing the pretty boring path but I can beat the yeet outta most everyone's asses with her
* (69) Xia Li - Sole Providers Just like the (69) Grayson Waller, this card goes hard and is my workhorse for those Gold LEs.

When I try deploy my AR app from a Macbook Air using Sonoma 14.4.1 to an iPhone 14 Pro, it fails at the VPN & Device Management stage. When I click 'Trust' it works but when I click 'Verify App' on my phone it fails. I've tried this while connected to wifi and while on mobile data, both when plugged into my Mac and when not but I get the same result each time.
The project itself is from Unity's AR for Mobile Pathway and is the initial trial project you download with just a spinning cube. I followed the configure instructions exactly.

Backstory: His family, The Corbett Clan, have been in constant war with a clan of giants called The Bähr Clan because of a river of Black Water that gave both clans their power where the Corbetts gained incredible speed and those of Bähr gained incredible strength and they've been fighting ever since and Louis is one of the strongest members of his family of the new generation able to disappear at the drop of a leaf.
Fighting Style: Corbett Clan Style Rough and Tumble.
Special Moves: Disappear- This is the Corbett Clans bread and butter this ability gained by years of training and fighting as well as the Black Rivers Gift allows them to move at exceptional speeds but its only second to The Mikazuchi Clans Technique- Lightning Flash but Louis is able to match Mikazuchi Clan members making him faster than anyone in his clan or family and it also turns their bodies slightly purple while using it.
Tear- While using Disappear Louis blitzes past the enemy and grins as he shows that he either ripped off their nose, ear, or sometimes tongue and that when the pain starts coursing through the opponents body as they realize what happened.
Mirage- When the opponent throws a punch Louis quickly dodges backwards then back forwards to make it seem like they just punched a mirage which is similar to Niko Style- Phantom Pace and using Disappear with it would allow him to go even faster than before able to dodge like water.
Fake Knockout- It either starts off as a Right or Left Hook but the goal is for the opponent to block it and at the same time as they block it Louis unleashes the worlds fastest straight punch shattering the opponents nose and face knocking them backwards unconscious.

2024.05.13 21:40 Boardwalkbummer I'm not doing enough damage on Zen, how do I safely get my numbers up?
So I'm a M5 Zen OTP and I've been comparing my Stats to a few high level Zen players and the thing I've noticed... they do a considerable amount more damage/10 than I do while maintaining a similar deaths/10 number (around 5.5ish)

Awkwards damage/10 on Zen this season is around 7500, where as mine is 5500. Healing, Assists, deaths is pretty close which I'm happy with but knowing how much ult charge that extra damage generates... almost like two extra transcends per game.
I've played Zen for awhile now, have about 150ish hours on the hero. I've come to learn that it's better to be safe than sorry when positioning but is this wrong?

I'm wondering how to make this code compress the thumbnail, medium, and medium large versions that WordPress generates after upload. Only width is known (150, 300, 768) and the height varies depending on the image. These version generated by WP aren't compressed. For example, the medium one would be as large of a file as an image twice as big.

If this analysis is correct, then how might our rulers protect themselves? One concept about the nature of the alleged UFO cover-up is that there exist quasi-governmental/quasi-corporate based clandestine cells sometimes described as “the control groups.” According to this proposition, these secret networks are keeping a lid on the UFO challenge by working behind the scenes to maintain what has been called “the UFO truth embargo.” This has involved a sophisticated psychological warfare program directed at the population in the form of a de facto policy of ridicule and denial. Given that these control groups have also been working to reverse engineer UFO technology for over seven decades, it is conceivable that they have made significant advances. The extreme secrecy concerning such breakthroughs might have created what UFO historian Richard Dolan has called “a breakaway civilization.” In 2017, a new openness on this subject has been allowed by elite power concerning this potentially destabilizing issue. This started with corporate media revelations about a secret Pentagon project studying UFOs. Since then, former, and current government officials have confirmed the reality of what are now called UAPs. Full disclosure of information about flying saucers is not what is happening. Instead, there has been an intensification of what non-human intelligence analyst Grant Cameron has called the US Executive Branch’s “gradual acclimatization program.” This involves allowing a mixture of some accurate information as well disinformation on this still highly classified subject to be released publicly. The gradual acclimatization program according to Grant Cameron’s analysis has for decades existed in parallel to the coverup. Corporate, military, intelligence and political power brokers don’t operate as one on this issue. Different factions struggle over the speed at which the limited disclosure will unfold. In my opinion, as stated above, this issue, at the most basic level, still threatens all terrestrial elites, but not the Earth’s peoples. Why do might the rich and powerful oppose an ET presence? The following are just a few of the reasons. 1.What we call flying saucers can apparently fly circles around “top gun” jet fighters, thereby showing the military to be impotent in securing terrestrial airspace.
3.Alleged ET “free energy” generating/propulsion systems if downloaded into our technological culture under conditions of world peace would threaten the largest industries on our planet, the empires of oil and coal.
YOU CAN’T CONTROL AN ET THAT WANTS NOTHING But what makes the control groups most afraid I suspect is that if UFOs are controlled by ETs, the alleged aliens don't seem to want anything. They often simply appear in the sky for a few moments and then disappear. This behavior transmits the simple-minded message, “Hello, we are here." ET beings, as far as we know, are not engaged in mining operations on Earth. They don't play the stock market to get rich. They usually flee when approached by military jets. Their interactions with humans occur under conditions of secrecy. The so-called aliens come to us often at night. Our interactions are predominately mental and typically when we are alone, thus little objective documentation can be acquired during the close encounters. THREATS OF VIOLENCE, BRIBERY, AND BLACKMAIL DON’T WORK WITH THEM. From the “control groups” point of view, I imagine that the alleged ETs appear to be immune to the usual bag of tricks that the super-rich use to keep the rest of us in line. Maybe the “ETs” scare the control groups because unlike politicians they can't be bribed or blackmailed. It is hard to shoot down UFOs and they don't seem too troubled by all the bad publicity they get from Hollywood alien invasion fantasies. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT MIGHT BE ESSENTIAL FOR OPEN CONTACT WITH ADVANCED CULTURES. The attached photo mime of a man walking with a small child in a forest suggests to me the following. Perhaps what we need on this planet is a simpler type of existence, one that allows us to be closer to nature. As in the image, walking in a beautiful forest might be far more fulfilling than the race to acquire wealth, power, and the mountains of things that our consumer culture tells us that we need. Thus, the man walking with a child in nature can’t be controlled because he wants nothing beyond a simple existence. I am suggesting here that the alleged ETs might want no things as well, placing them beyond the control of the ruling classes. From my understanding of the spiritual teachings of Eckert Tolle, consciousness is no thing. It is an awareness that allows us to be awake and be aware that we are awake. It is infinite in its scope and universally experienced but can’t be defined by words. The ego however can be defined. According to Tolle it is a mind structure that is obsessed with form, both material things and thought forms. Identifying with form compels the ego to enhance itself by always wanting and sometimes getting more. For many of us this means more money, fame, sex, and for the ruling classes more control over others. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT COMBINED WITH PROGRESSIVE POLITICS MIGHT BE THE KEY. What happens when more of us reject this plane of existence that the Buddha reportedly called "the nightmare of the day”? Successful evolutionary movements typically achieve results over long periods of time. The Protestant reforms that reflected the growing strength of business classes in combination with the scientific revolution created a new kind of society.
