2024.05.13 04:58 DBones90 How I’m thinking of adding reaction rolls to PF2

I’ve been running Age of Ashes, and I ran into a situation where I had a creature placed on the map, I knew why they were there, And I knew what they were doing, but I wasn’t sure what should happen when the players opened the door and encountered them.
I improvised a version of a reaction roll, something old school D&D games would use to determine how creatures react to player characters, and it got me thinking about what a more in-depth, Pathfinder compatible reaction roll system might look like.
So, here’s what I cooked up. I wanted to share here and see if anyone had thoughts or had tried something similar in PF2 before.
Reactions and React to Party
The React to party action is used to determine a creature’s reaction to the party. It’s only used in cases where it’s not clear how the creature will react. This action references the creature’s Instinct.
Instinct
A creature’s instinct is what they want to be doing when the players interact with them. Because this doesn’t involve the player characters, you can prep this in advance when you make the creature. Think of what they’re doing right before the players interact. Think of what they would be doing if the players weren’t there.
Some example instincts include:
React to Party [free action]
Trigger: A creature or group of creatures meets the player characters, and their reaction isn’t clear.
The GM rolls a secret Will save against the Diplomacy DC of a player-controlled creature.
If the player characters are not visibly armed or dangerous, this save suffers a -2 circumstance penalty.
EDIT: Updated the critical failure effect to be less dramatic.

2024.05.12 21:05 forthesect Trouble in turkey town review.

Trouble in turkey town is a free thanksgiving them familly friendly 5e adventure https://monsterfight5e.com/index.php/monster-fight-5e-presents-takedown-in-turkey-town/
An urban campaign mission designed for level 2-3 adventurers, trouble in turkey town is composed of an initial encounter (beware of headcrab like animated turkeys that turn people into turkey zombies),3 pathways to infiltrate a manor, and a mission to recover a cursed cornucopia within that mansion involving 2 gang factions, multiple groups of enemies including another designed encounter, and a final battle with giant turkey monster.
Other than hombrew monsters and an additional flashback mechanic allowing preparation to factor into the heist without actually taking time out to plan or roleplay that preparation before hand, it is run entirely on whatever 5e system you choose to use. Inspired by new jack city, the plot involves a gang leader producing thanksgiving meals from a fae gifted cornucopia that cause magical food comas, the manifestation of nightmare like food creatures, and possible were turkeys. He flees to his manor with the cornucopia after things go awry, wich the party must infiltrate to recover the cornucopia and undo its effect, encountering his traitorous right hand woman and a devious fae along the way.
All in all Trouble in Turkey town is a well polished, comedic, and self contained adventure likely playable in 2-3 sessions or longer if you stretch it a bit. It has few flaws, but there are a couple missed opportunities or areas that can use more guidance or elaboration for the GM and there is a lot of optional content that doesn't provide additional opportunities and may even make the final battle more difficult.
For example, the flashback mechanic: "To get the players right into the action of the heist, this adventure includes a flashback mechanic... For example: If the players are infiltrating Nino's keep from the north side. They could flashback to persuade the local guard to set up an explosion on the south side as a distraction."
Allowing players to simply describe things their characters had done previously to aid in a heist on the fly is a great way to start an adventure in the thick of it while still keeping to the genre, and allows for easier roleplaying of competent infiltrators by allowing preparations to occur with aid of hind site, as players can take advantage of ideas that would occur to serious skilled characters in planning but might only occur to causal role-players in a moment of need.
That said, the benefit is not really well fitted to this module as the heist does not occur until after an inital encounter and there is a full planning phase between the initial encounter and the heists beginning. As well as the missed opportunity of the description of the mechanic not fitting this adventure that well, there is a lack of guidance on what ways a flashback might be used, with only one example being provided. As only a small portion of the adventure includes an actual infiltration, and preparation could be difficult beyond that point as characters cannot interact with the mansion until that infiltration, this lack of guidance is strongly felt. I can come up with at least one idea, once inside the mansion players learn that the personel all have uniforms, and thus can flashback to replicating these uniforms for themself based on a description from an informant, but more guidance would be nice as well as guidance on how to provide examples or explanation of the mechanic to players.
Another area guidance would be critical is the alarm. There are two points during the initial infiltration where guards can raise the alarm, the path where the alarm is less likely to be raised being more difficult in every other aspect, but there is nothing that indicates what this actually does or why it is a significant enough risk that the other more enemy dense infiltration option is comparable. Obviously as a gm I could come up with what the alarm does myself, but given that there are so many moving parts inside the mansion and so many active threats the gang is dealing with, its hard to know what they would actually do.
The rest of the review are a list of potential flaws (including ones involving the final battle and optional content) that might be difficult to understand without reading the adventure, and are mainly for the benefit of the creator of the text.
A motivation for Tea is taking down niko, later it says he has a personal grudge. That information should be in his bio not outside of it, and I would like specification on where that grudge originates.
"•People who eat from the cornucopia become cursed eventually transforming into a were-turkey"
There is no mention of the food monsters appearance here, which is perhaps the more critical factor.
"Keeping the method and place of discovery abstract lets the story flow no matter where your players take it."
I'm not sure it does, not specifying where clues would be as an adventure writer does, but for the gm I'm not sure the same benefit applies.
There are no guidelines for character creation or party size. It would be nice if there were potential ways for players to connect their backstories to the mission, and a good or neutral aligned party seems more or less necessary without going pretty off script.
It's a little odd that the eaters can be awakened with just one action once the encounter starts, but could not be aroused at all before.
Is proximity required to use the action to wake up a bystander or can a player just shout at them?
Whether the number of bystanders saved correlates to by standers awoken before becoming zombies or just bystanders that don't end up dead is not clear.
The reward for playing this encounter well is pretty slim, just one extra potion.
"There are two vaults in the keep. One crew vault and Nino's personal vault. The players have been told that the cornucopia is in the crew vault but it is in Nino's vault."
This is likely something Pookie tells the crew despite knowing better, but that is not really specified anywhere and it just says that pookie knows it is in Nino's without telling where the players are supposed to get the info that that is not the case.
"During their time in Teo's warehouse the characters can rest and plan the heist. This is a good time to introduce the flashback mechanic."
Since the flashback is unrelated to what the players actually plan/prepare, I'm not sure it is.
"Have the players come up with an initial point of entry and begin the heist."
Does it have to be one of the three options? Also is the wall entry point supposed to be along the northern wall? Whether the players know that immmedaitly or find out after looking at all the walls it doesn't matter, but if they try to climb another wall it might be problematic, as some of the walls only have descriptions of wants going on at the keep near the outer wall not that section of the outer wall itself.
In terms of choosing pookie or teo, if they figure out pookie is sus but can't convince teo, the most likely option is to pick neither, but I'm not sure if thats intended as an option.
Pookie has two pretty big downsides that would not be hard for the players to figure out which might be a bit much, but having a named character that might transform if things go bad adds stakes which is nice.
"a empty plate of food and two folders one labeled ̈Crew Vault" the other "Private Vault". A turkey zombie hides in the south east corner."
What’s in them?
The reward for saving Remy in the kitchen encounter is also pretty low considering the dumbwaiter is so easy to find.
The dumbwaiter makes noise, but how guards might react to that considering it's probably a normal occurrence is not stated. Might whether the alarm has been raised effect this?
"The keys need to be inserted into the locks at the same time or the vault an alarm will go off."
Another point where there is an alarm but no stated stakes.
"The vault is full with paintings, sculptures jewels and gold. On the southern wall is a wardrobe that has been boarded up. Pounding can be heard coming from it as if someone is trapped inside."
Earlier the wardrobe is stated to be being carried in the stair room, make sure to say it is only in the vault if the goons were allowed to carry it down the stairs uncontested.
"If there is a battle, Nino will engage for a round or two then attempt to escape to his vault using his hat and get the cornucopia. He suspects it is powerful enough to use to maintain his power."
And if he succeeds in this? What happens then. That is not explained here, and at the final battle section he is supposed to show up after the players if he is alive. Which does not make sense combined with this. How would the players even obtain his hat without knocking him out or killing him? It's possible I'm sure, but it seems like it would be pretty tough.
The players are supposed to be able to learn about Nosh from the kennel master, but what would they learn? As it requires visiting the kernel master, then going all the way down to the basement to meet Nosh or revisit him even after the new imformation is gained, it should be pretty good info.
Make sure this info can in theory result in a positive benefit after interacting with Nosh, not just avoiding negative effects ideally. Perahps an alternate route to defeating the turkey, effectively a different ending path after getting info on nosh in one area, then doubling back to interact with him. Additionally, Nosh has semi critical information, and the only way to bargain with him at present is either to become a warlock or help Niko, step costs. Maybe there is something that can give you leverage over him that the kennel master reveals (it would be funny if it's just a favorite food). Furthermore, why must Nosh be bargained with? The option to attack him or just keep him locked in the wardrobe if he does not help is never discussed.
Killing both Niko and Aurelia should have some benefit, likely an alternate path to defeating the turkey or breaking the curse without it, otherwise thats 3 successive cr 2 battles including the turkey, and they have to fight the turkey without mooks distracting it.
When having the battle, make the monsters and NPC almost like background pieces and only interacting with the players when it makes sense. This will make it easier to run since you wouldn't need to keep track of everyone's hp and turns. It also gives the players a fighting chance against overwhelming odds.
Having the npc be a bit background makes sense, not sure having the turkey and the monsters it spawned be in the background is a good idea though as they are the main obstacle. The giant turkey without the things it spawns having an effect just isn't that interesting an encounter.
What if the players just take the cornucopia, rather than destroying it or having a way to immediately place it in the fey wild. Especially if they don't immediately have the info on how to break the curse this is likely to happen.
"On a success, the host reverts to its original mastiff form, and losing 10 hp."
Clarify that the health total is kept despite transformation, it doesn't go to base hp then lose 10 hp I mean.
"the turkey is destroyed and it reverts to its host form with 1 hp."
The it/host form here needs to be clarified to refer to the dog.
There is little difference between bite and pounce, pounce should do more damage to reflect higher cr, move has a different name anyway.
"Engulf. The ooze moves up to its speed into a medium or smaller target's space and engulfs the target. The target must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or take 4 (1d6 + 1) poison damage and is suffocating."
Should specify target is grappled or restrained or ooze stays attached to them as they move, and give guidance on when a player makes saving throws to break out after failing the first time and if that takes any option from the action economy.
"Any creature may use its action to make a DC 14 Strength (athletics) check to rip off the turkey. On a success, the host reverts to its original form, and losing 10 hp."
Definitely need to change wording on this, like the last instance but even worse as it involves temp hp. Having the pull of method do more damage but work quicker ain’t the end of the world though.

2024.05.12 20:30 cartmansmama AITA for yelling at my grandmother and calling her a spoiled brat even though she has the early stages of dementia?

Sorry for the long post. My (35f) grandmother (85f) started showing early stages of dementia several years ago. She was deemed a fall risk and, after a ton of battles with my family, she was finally put in an independent living facility. My younger golden child cousin (34m) and I are the only ones in our state here with her while my dad and uncle are living in other states. (Mind you, he and I have NEVER gotten along) A little backstory: GM and I have been close but had a bit of a back and forth relationship. I am the oldest grandchild and my family instilled this ideal in me that the oldest takes care of everything (i.e. my dad being the oldest son). When I was younger, my weight fluctuated a lot due to hormonal issues (undiagnosed until 30 when I learned I had PCOS) and having a stressful home life. She knew my home life was difficult and still would tell me that I needed to lose weight, drop a few pounds, boys like skinny girls, etc etc In addition to this, she was a gossip hound. She loved to talk trash about people to make herself feel superior even to the point where she made my uncles former significant other cry. Despite this, and my difficulty letting people go due to dealing with my fair share of tragic loss, I still would visit her, take her out, rush to see her if she was hospitalized, pick up her cigarettes and drive out on road trips when I wasn't exhausted from work and had the extra cash. My cousin hasn't done a damn thing to help. Since my dad lives in a different state, we would drive and meet at a halfway point to pass her off so she could get away for a little while. The drive was about 2 1/2 hours one way for me, 3 or so hours for dad. (She didnt fly because she gets lost and an airport would be overwhelming) I like to drive so it was fine with me. We did this many times over the years and though the drives were typically fine, there were times where she would get salty because she didn't want to go home. My dad, bless his heart, spoils her. Everything she wants, she gets and when she whines, he gives her something to make her happy. Now I'm not clocking people who like to spoil family, I too like to spoil my friends but there's a limit. Like if my step-mom makes a delicious meal and worked hard on it, GM whines that she wants Chinese food and complains until dad gives in and gets it for her. When I push back, dad gets me with "she's old and doesn't remember, we can't hold that against her, she's your grandmother" the pressure to care for her when I wasn't financially (single income) or mentally able to (looooooong story) was pretty heavy. Anyway, this last weekend was the last straw. I am very busy with my job and I'm constantly exhausted from work, depression and the hobbies I have to cope with it. Still, I arranged with my dad to "pass off GM", no biggie. My roommate, who is the best friend ever, was gonna come with to keep me company on the drive back. We usually drive up in the morning, have breakfast at this amazing place and part ways. So it's early, I'm tired from work and not a morning person, but stopped to pick up coffee for all of us and went to the home to get GM. GM says she doesn't want to go claiming she doesn't feel well. I check her temp, breathing and give her a once over and everything appears fine, so i ask what doesn't feel good. GM: I just don't feel well Me: is it your tummy? Congestion? GM: yeah im congested Me: knowing our allergy season has been worse this year we can get you some meds and dad will get you to a good dr GM: OP just let it go
Now, when GM has been sick, she's usually a lot more clearer with her symptoms (usually detailed and exaggerated for pity) and after watching her for years, I can tell when she's actually sick. This was NOT the case, she just didn't want to leave (despite her pestering us for weeks to get out) I call my dad and he had already been on the road for 3 hours so he was trying to convince her to go. She starts getting nasty and telling my dad to shut up. Then she started getting nasty with me. This is where I lost it. All the years of frustration and abuse finally poured out. Me: are you really not feeling well? Or do you just not want to go? GM: I don't want to go! Me: you're being really mean and it's not fair. you're obviously well enough to get up and walk around to have a smoke and get coffee and sign yourself out for the weekend GM: just let it go OP Me: we got up early to drive you, dad is already most of the way there, this is insane! You always do this! GM: Bull@%# Me: you're a selfish spoiled brat! GM: I don't know who you think you are! Me: who I am?! I am the grandchild who comes to check on you,, im the grandchild who has left work early numerous times to meet you at the hospital only to find out there's nothing wrong! I get you smokes, I drive hours to take you on vacations and never ask for anything in return! Where are the rest of your damn grandkids? Huh? NOT HERE!"
This is when she grabs her walker and just walks away. Her last comment was "I've always been good to you..."
No, no she hasn't. So I'm done. I'm done being her errand boy, her punching bag and her scapegoat. The worst part is that she tells her friends that I'm her favorite. But we all know it's because I'm the only one who actually gives a damn besides my dad... So, AITA?

2024.05.11 12:46 OneNationUnderMe258 My current place of employment is a major pizza delivery chain, and has let their building fall into disrepair and now the equipment that handles the food does not work at all and it has been weeks, and i wish to retaliate.

For starters, i am 25 years old and live in middle Tennessee and am currently employed at a major pizza delivery chain in an in my opinion, rather rich little river town. I have worked this job since i was 16, and have worked at this specific location since right before covid hit, and i've learned that pizza delivery can have a decent income when you play it right. Right now, i'm rather comfortable at my job and don't want to leave, and worse, i have 0 experience doing anything else.
When i started at this current location, the building was already in a state of cosmetic disrepair that comes with a building that was built in the 60s, nothing really major. Over these last few years, cosmetic has turned into disgusting, and in some times dangerous.
Some issues that have been building up over the last three years to its current state: -Our make-line which holds and stores food for us to make the pizzas and food with had leaky drain pipes and would keep all over the cooling tech and then keep the interior flooded with water (we were told to just elevate the food that was stored underneath on trays) -The prior mentioned make-line stopped stopped working and no longer operates at all (i wonder why) and we are instructed to keep ice inside of the top portion where the ingredients are so that it stays in temp. This does not really work well as the top of the food just gets warm, and the bottoms freeze as its in contact with ice through the container. This has been going on for well over a month. -Our mop bucket draining sink does not drain whatsoever, and will not over flow from where we pour it, but will instead leak from the pipes underneath and flood under and through a wall into a tight hallway which is a heavy traffic area. This has been going on for two years. -Our dishes sink will leak when we drain it, and keeps the prior mentioned hallway at a constant state of, not slippery, but visible standing water, and makes the area smell of sewage. This has been happening for one year. -Our toilet for three few months was in disrepair and would flood water and it had no where to go except the into and under the walls that led into the lobby where customers would go where it was not noticeable to them but now every-time we mop the lobby it smells of sewage. -tl;dr: Incomprehensible amounts of neglect, mismanagement, and ignored and continuing water damage.
To make this even worse, a tornado back in December passed behind the building and caused damage to the building itself. The door was slightly blown in, the roof had some holes in it, and the back parking structure that was leftover from the drive-in style dining place the building originally was purposed for, had a tree fall onto it. They kept the store down for the 3 busiest months of the year for repairs, which really hurt. We re-opened to no repairs on the store being done what-so-ever in that three months, other than the door being fixed, and they had that repaired in the first week. In this time, the franchise pocketed over $200k in lost revenue through insurance for the months we were closed, which was further inflated by not having to pay the employees during this time, and not a single dollar has been used for repairs. Not even the roof was fixed. Every-time it rains now, water pours from the ceiling over our oven and through its vents onto the area where we are actively making food. We will also have our electricity flicker on and off, and will hear pops from the fuze box. On Thursday, we had extremely bad storms hit again, and we just had to shut down entirely because we could not operate any-longer with how much water was inside of the building. THIS, all happening while the upper management, GM's, DM's, and even higher levels, and i cannot make this up, were all at an annual company paid for trip to Las Vegas. Last night i had to go to my GM and ask why none of the PTO hours i put in were on my paycheck. Turn out the the company just forgot to accept the PTO request, and many of us are now missing out on our money and will not be able to see it for another pay cycle. My GM then followed up this conversation by telling me how the DM's were sending hookers to each others rooms!!
My blood is boiling, and the disgusting conditions that all of us who are employed there that we managed to work around is now dangerous to the customers, the community which has been gracious enough to give me their money for my deliveries when at no point is a tip required. The same community that i have felt blessed to meet, and has inspired me to work my ass off and actually move here. In these three years, i have come to call this town my home, and this community as my people.
Now, onto the possible civil/ legality side of things. Its very obvious to me that asking them nicely to repair the issues is going to be continued to be met with a middle finger. So i have a better idea how to expedite this process, and based on the performance i've been met with this entire time by the management, they would probably try to just call a bluff that isn't one, and just fire me.
So my question to anyone who might know anything is:
A: If i were to threaten the upper-management with going up to city officials that are responsible to handle the sorts of things i've mentioned prior, documenting all the damage on video/pictures and posting to town-wide social media groups, and using my extensive knowledge of where every one of their regulars and the majority of their occasional customers live and go to their houses on my free time and show them the videos/ pictures, and they were to fire me for the threat, is it possible for me to sue the business for wrongful termination/ retaliation against me for bringing light to an issue.
B: When they do fire me for that, and i make good on my threats, would my job have grounds to come after me legally?

Schedule: Friday starting from 19:00 (GMT+2 timezone)
Duration: My sessions typically run 3 to 4 hours, I usually don't have breaks but we can introduce ones easily.
Payment: 5 euro per player per session via PayPal or regular BankTransfer. Session 0 and first actual session free.
Why for so little? I don't really like to make a business out of playing games, I simply do this because I need some minimum additional income so I can buy food every month while studying in uni :D I will run this as your friendly neighbourhood gm's game while still trying to keep the quality high (because that's what I expect of myself too).

About the Game

Outlaws of Alkenstar is a steampunk/wild western adventure in a fantasy world. Being in the middle of the mana wastes magic is unreliable the best of days (how this affects the play of spellcasters is up to us on session 0). In this unforgiving wasteland lies the city of Alkenstar, the city of smoke, guns, clockwork, and outlaws. You will be playing an outlaw, on the run from the law, or whatever corrupt version of it got you in your current situation, looking for both revenge and to clear your name. Be warned, this is not an "evil campaign", simply our heroes might not be... completely morally clean... yea let's go with that. :D
(there is also a great trailer by paizo on youtube, feel free to watch! :D)

About Me / GMing Style

I'm a forever GM in several TTRPGs for at least 5 years now (tbh don't remember when I started), almost always running pre-written adventures while slowly writing one of my own, but it's faaar from done. I have 4 multi-year campaigns and several more adventures and oneshots behind me, with generally very positive player feedback.
I like to run pre-written adventures because there are so many tools and already existing points I can build onto, I tend to run them close to the story giving out good plothooks at the start so player characters can nicely fit the adventure, this of course doesn't mean the adventure doesn't adapt to the PCs, but it's a common effort to build something from the story we are given. My games have a world without a PCs too, I like to keep track of what NPCs are doing and events happening even if the players don't interact with them for several sessions, this makes the world feel alive and that stuff is happening all the time. This also means that if the party doesn't interact somewhere (or not in time), that also has a result that comes back, once again, a lively world.
My games are usually Heroic adventures, slightly higher than usual power level but also dangers, they are not dark or slow slogs where you have to put much effort into survival, although it is not fully removed from the game. I have some minor problems dealing with the mix-in of futuristic aspects as I like to keep it clean fantasy, but I'm not fully against it. Just expect that I won't have as much to offer to a typical Inventor or Gunslinger as I can for others. Expect fights to be a core of the campaign but never the only solution or the sol existence, just something like 30%-50% combat (dependent on group's vibe), and the rest mix between exploration, roleplay, puzzles, etc.
I'm a GM who likes to focus on the mechanics, how they are defined and used tells a story by itself. A monster doesn't have to talk to have a personality, how it interacts with it's surrounding already tells a lot. What tactics it uses, what does it value, who it targets or doesn't. All of them make sense and can be played around. I tend to stick to the rules, and hold my players to it as well with the occasional rule of cool dropped in of course.

2024.05.10 06:57 MommyJugs My 73 weeks as a driver

My 73 weeks as a driver
I was a driver for 73 weeks from very late 2022 until today. I recorded my tips, hourly rate, hours worked, and DMR for every shift in a spreadsheet. Here are some things you should be aware of if you're thinking of driving yourself.

Compensation

I was paid $11/hr plus $1/delivery plus driver tips. Technically I made counter tips as well but my share of them was very small and they just got applied against my $1/delivery DMR anyway so the net impact on my check was zero. The $1 DMR was flat, it was not miles-based and I wasn't paid anything for miles unrelated to delivery like running to another store because the GM screwed up or re-doing a delivery also because the GM who bagged it screwed up. Something you have to understand as a driver is that gas is not the cost of delivery. There is a per-mile cost of delivery in wear and tear. For reasons I'll elaborate on in a comment if there's interest, I calculated my per-mile cost to be 43 cents per mile including gas. (Naturally there is some responsibility on the driver to own and operate a car that is cheap on gas and maintenance but that is already the case in this figure.) Of course, when you take a delivery you have to drive there and back, so another way of looking at it is that my cost was 86 cents per mile the delivery is from the store. That means if someone doesn't tip, anything over 1.2 miles comes out of my pocket. If a GM screws up and I have to drive 6 miles each way to get something from another store, that's over $5 out of my own pocket. I was never paid a penny for anything like that, but I could get a cookie if I wanted! What all this means is that there's a significant gap between your gross hourly pay and your hourly pay after the true cost recognition of driving your car. You can choose to ignore that if you wish, but you're simply subsidizing your own income with deferred maintenance and deferred depreciation if you do that. In my case, I calculated this discrepancy to average out to $3.28/hr. That's the difference between my actual cost to drive around and the DMR I was paid. Other franchises may still use per-mile DMR but it may still be less than your cost. It certainly won't be the industry norm for mileage reimbursement which is matching the IRS standard mileage rate, 67 cents per mile in 2024.

Tips

Obviously the only reason anyone drives is for driver tips. I've noticed a fairly stark decrease in tips over my time driving. I do not have each individual tip in a spreadsheet but the trend I noticed is that while the average tip of a tipped delivery might have gone down a little, most of the decrease comes from a higher percentage of people declining to tip altogether. The anti-tip crowd isn't just some group that makes a lot of noise on reddit, they're a very real group that feel justified in not paying you for your work before any of their idealist tip reform has actually taken place. The blue line is the gross pay and the orange line is the pay after closing the DMR gap. To clarify, I worked very similar hours my entire time there so the difference is not explained by working worse shifts. Should you drive? Making $22/hr in 2022 the answer was an easy yes. Making $16/hr now in 2024 its really hard to recommend and inshoppers will almost always be over that number with counter tips. Again, if you want to plug your ears and pretend the wear and tear cost on your vehicle isn't real, the actual numbers hitting your bank account are a little more promising.

Other Thoughts

One of the "fun" things about being a driver is that if you hit someone on the clock or get hit, regardless of fault, you are immediately fired. That means your health insurance (if you're full time) and any chance of collecting unemployment both go poof, which is pretty bad when you've just gotten into a wreck. If you don't consider yourself a good driver, do not drive.
Another "fun" thing is when some in-shopper or the GM takes a phone delivery and then completely drops the ball on actually giving you pertinent information they received over the phone neither on the ticket nor verbally. This can easily extend the time it takes to complete a delivery which will lower your revenue over time any time there's more than one driver on the clock. (There's this idea that speed doesn't matter because orders are assigned "randomly" ie in the order they come in, but that's not true as getting back to the store faster and getting back into rotation faster will lead to you taking more deliveries and making more money on a long timeline.)
Also nobody could be asked to get new feet for the toppers at my location, everyone was just fine with drivers scratching the hell out of their paint with the screws that protruded from what remained of the feet. If you're thinking of becoming a driver, ask to see the toppers and if they don't have rubber feet in good condition that cover the screws, know that you will scratch the top of your car every shift.

TL;DR

Your true profit is going to be less than what's hitting your bank account unless you're a unicorn with a DMR policy that actually covers your driving cost, tips are getting worse by the week, and you assume kind of a lot of monetary risk considering you're a W-2 employee both in destroying your car and also in smaller costs like unpaid miles to another store for someone else's mistake. With all that said, it can be decent compared to other fast food and retail options if your shifts are busy enough and your customer base isn't stingy.

2024.05.08 07:20 kingcobweb Unions in Absalom (and beyond): expanding on what's in the book.

Intro
Union organizing is my day job. Of the four players in the Pathfinder campaign I GM, I met three of them through union organizing. Because I love unions, RPGs, and cities, the two pages in Absalom: City of Lost Omens about “Guilds and Unions” are my favorite.
The ideas in these pages (and scattered in a few other places) are both super exciting, in that I can’t remember another fantasy RPG that had unions as a prominent feature, and pose some difficulties in terms of ambiguities or unanswered questions I have about them. Because my Absalom campaign prominently features Lifter’s Mooring (the dockworker’s union), I’ve done a lot of work expanding upon what the writers of this book wrote about them.
Obvious caveat: this is largely based upon official Paizo material. I haven’t read through the adventures that take place within Absalom, so if any of this contradicts Paizo’s official stuff, let me know. When I mention an NPC, I’ll try to make it clear whether it’s from the Absalom book or an invention of mine.
Guilds, Craft Unions, Industrial Unions, and Political Groups That Confusingly Have “Union” In The Name
Using the word “Guild” is really ambiguous, but that’s not Paizo’s fault. Unions in America do the same thing: News Guild and Screen Actors Guild, among others, are labor unions with nothing in common with the medieval “guilds” also featured in more traditional fantasy settings. I’m a union organizer, not an economic historian, so I’ll leave an explainer of what the “guild” system was to someone else, but for our purposes, I treat most of the organizations Paizo calls “guilds” as what we in the union world call “craft unions.”
A craft union is a labor organization based around having an elite, trained, not-highly-replaceable workforce. In real life, think of an elite job like a movie director: if they’re organized, they have a lot of economic leverage against their employers, not with numbers, but because their training and expertise makes them extraordinarily difficult, if not impossible, to replace. This was the model of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) before its merger with the CIO. Organizations in Absalom like the Barristers’ Guild, Locksmiths’ Guild, Navigators’ Guild, and Scriveners’ Guild are in this category. Organizations like the Perfumers’ Conglomerate probably act more like a cartel than a union we’d recognize in modern America. If you have an organization like this in your setting, their members are probably making decent money, and aren’t plotting to overthrow the system or break their chains of serfdom. They might charge extremely high initiation fees, or have a policy of excluding people they have a prejudice against: a craft union of clockwork artisans might deny membership to goblins, then refuse to do business with anyone who patronizes those goblins.
The alternative, an industrial union, is a labor organization based not around having a specific training, but being in the same industry. In real life, if a nurse in a hospital is a member of a nurses’ union while the rest of the hospital is unorganized, that’s craft unionism; if they’re in the same union as the cooks and janitors, that’s industrial unionism. In Absalom, Lifter’s Mooring is an industrial union: if you’re doing anything on the docks, you’re a member. These organizations are going to be filled with people worse off economically, and more prone to “negotiations” through burning down their workplace.
A couple organizations that aren’t labor unions are worth mentioning here: the Free Union and the Firebrands.
The Free Union, made up of Halfling former slaves, will help workers organize but has its eyes on a bigger political picture than just getting better wages and benefits. Paizo’s official words talk about what they do (“organize strikes, protest Lord Gyr’s secret prisons, and increasingly seek seats on the Low Council”) but little about how they’re organized beyond that their leader is Milly Tundall and that their headquarters is really nice.
My implementation: they combine democratic participation, drawn from their aversion to anything remotely resembling the domination they felt as slaves, with the militant discipline necessary to win their fights. I see Milly Tundall as not the head of a hierarchy, but the one democratically chosen by the rest of the Free Union to represent it when a speech or talking to the upper classes is needed. Other leaders have different jobs, such as this NPC from my campaign:
Orana Brovaird
Female / Halfling / Organizer / Level 5
Where Milly is the Free Union’s inspiring orator, the propagandist to the rest of Absalom on behalf of the Free Union, Orana is the militant firing up her fellow halflings to stand up for themselves. When someone tells her that they’ll go ask their boss for better wages instead of participating in a strike, she’s known to ask them, “do you want to ask for your freedom? Do you ask to be treated with dignity? Or will you stand up and demand it, with your actions instead of words?” Despite their opposing demeanors, she’s well aware that someone needs to rub elbows with the politicians of the city, and she’s relieved to have a friend and comrade in Milly who will do that. Orana will sometimes work with other unions, especially Lifter’s Mooring, but gets frustrated at how willing some of them are to compromise when she feels total victory is possible. She also draws a hard line at ever working with a former slaver: “they’ve taken my freedom from me once, I won’t give it to them again with a handshake.”
The Firebrands, being a collection of autonomous cells with no formal relationships between them, fittingly have inconsistent relationships with unions. Cells such as Oh My Gourdness- yes, this is a canonical Firebrands cell from Paizo- explicitly help workers meet their demands (in their case, doing sabotage to help workers for loggers), but others can have different interests or get in the way entirely. In Absalom, many cells such as Mithril Chefs are headed by the owners of a business, rather than common workers.
If your players are Firebrands, you can get creative with having them take actions workers themselves cannot: raiding a warehouse holding goods made by scab workers, or tying a union-busting boss to the tallest tower in your city, for example. If your players are on the union side working with Firebrands, you can play up the romantic idealism of the Firebrands while hinting that they may care more about the fame and glory than the cause they’re helping with. (Or they may think nothing of spending 100 gold on fireworks for a fabulous distraction instead of giving that to the workers who have been without pay for months.)
Lifter’s Mooring: a deeper dive
Here I have to call out Paizo for what seems like a clear mistake: the Absalom book lists “Dockworkers’ Union” separately from “Lifter’s Mooring,” which it also describes as a group of dock workers. The chapter on the Docks refers exclusively to Lifter’s Mooring, as do the NPC descriptions. I’m going to disregard everything about “Dockworkers’ Union” and refer exclusively to “Lifter’s Mooring.”
One of the unanswered questions I had was: how do the docks work now that there’s a union? We know that the strike that created Lifter’s Mooring, to get its founder Guyton Grerton compensation for an injury that crushed his legs, shut down the whole docks. So what was the settlement that put the docks back to work?
In my game, the union runs a sort of hiring hall. (If you’ve seen season two of The Wire, remember the scenes where a guy is yelling out who has work that day.) Unlike the guilds who charge exorbitant fees for members to join, union membership in Lifter’s Mooring is as simple as showing up at the right time of the morning. You get your union card, which becomes your proof of seniority for getting the better jobs as you work longer. The person distributing the jobs (in game terms for my players, their first questgiver) is Nazko.
Nazko
Male / Troll / Union official / Level 7
Nazko is short for a troll, in that he’s only twelve feet tall. He’d long been sick of getting pushed around and cheated out of his wages on the docks, even as he was doing the work of five people for one person’s wages. When the word went out about Guyton Grerton being hurt and not getting compensation, Nazko dropped the cargo he was holding and went ship to ship telling everyone that their work was done for the day. No one dared contradict him.
On the picket line, he was the first line of defense for the other workers: the owners of warehouses and other businesses on the docks came together to hire strikebreakers to try to beat the newly-formed Lifter’s Mooring back to work, but above-average humans lose easily to a below-average troll. He was careful not to hurt them, though. Just threw them in the water, one by one.
His current position as a union official isn’t just a retroactive payment for his work on the picket line, though. Despite troll’s reputations as being dumb and short-tempered, he’s always fair with his fellow workers, if a bit gruff. Whenever someone grumbles that he doesn’t do real work any more, he’ll remind them that no one else on the Docks can stand up to two dozen orcs that all disagree with their job placement for the day.
After work, he’s usually found at The Grog Pit, and at one copper each, he can afford to keep up a tradition of his: buying every union member a drink on their first day.
Unions outside of Absalom (and making your own (in a campaign, but feel free to make your own union in real life too))
Unions in a metropolis like Absalom are going to be more established, more accepted, and more bureaucratic than out in the wilds where a lot of campaigns take place. Here’s how I would advise incorporating them.
First, outside of the reaches of organized law enforcement (let alone labor law), the organizations running industry like lumber and mining are effectively the only “law” there. As such, any labor organizing is going to be more prone to direct actions, more hidden about who is involved (to avoid blacklists and other repercussions), and less able to rely on third parties for support. What the do have is the advantage of all living together, and being the only labor in the area. In Absalom, it can be difficult even finding all your coworkers after your day is done, and nearly impossible to stop replacements from coming in. When you’re a week’s travel from anywhere, this isn’t the case. Villainous bosses in Absalom might have to smile in the public square at everyone; when they’re in the wilderness, they won’t be so shy about telling workers they’ll get to work or face death.
If you’re incorporating a union or themes of labor struggle, ask: was this something the workers started doing themselves (an independent union)? Or is it a strategic workplace that an existing labor organization targeted? If the latter, who is the boss? What other industries are they in?
Adventure/campaign ideas
Salt in the Wound: the players sign up to be fighters in The Irorium, Absalom’s largest gladiatorial arena… because they were hired by the Street Performers and Actors’ Guild to convince the fighters to join their union. The party has to not just fight, but figure out who are the most influential fighters there who they need to convince, then survive long enough in seemingly-unwinnable combat to convince those fighters they deserve more. (Have you seen the health insurance costs when your job is fighting magically-created chimeras? And they have to pay for it out of pocket!) [Combat-focused with persuasion minigame in the middle; 1-2 sessions.]
Which Side Art Thou On: in a remote wilderness, a group of Dawnsilver miners are at death’s door on strike over unsafe conditions and much less pay than they were promised before they traveled out here. The players have to scour the wilderness for food to keep the strikers alive, fight guerrilla battles against the company’s hired goons, plan advances and retreats like a general, and keep the morale of the miners up to stop more of them from slinking back to work before the company gives in. [Grand strategy with time-based mechanics; 4-6 sessions.]
Outro
I hope that GM’s running campaigns in Absalom got some good ideas for incorporating the canonical unions into their stories, and I hope other GM’s got some campaign ideas for union-involved campaigns. I’d love to hear how other GM’s are incorporating unions into their Pathfinder campaigns, whether in Absalom or maybe in a different setting than Lost Omens altogether.

2024.05.07 14:31 AwkwardOwl17 d100 fairytale inspired wild magic table

In my feywild campaign, drinking water from a special well creates effects inspired by fairy tales. I thought I'd post my table (largely european background), in case anyone has fairytales from other cultures or backgrounds they could add. let's make some fun magic happen!
Rules:
a. The effect must be inspired by an actual fairy tale, not a movie or mythology (that could be a different list?)
b. The effect should primarily affect the person consuming the water (though environmental effects can be a part of it)
So far, it's a d20 table, but I'd love to transform it into a d100 table :)

d100 fairytale inspired wild magic surges

  1. Take 3d6 psychic damage and roll again.

2024.05.06 04:00 Enderoth A 200-strong table of minor accursed inconveniences

Looking on the interwebs I couldn’t find a really good comprehensive list of curses that suited my game, so I made a list of 200. I’ve pulled some of these from other sources (such as reddit posts, youtube shorts, and so on), but the vast majority were from me going “wouldn’t it be funny if…”
Some of the curses have optional mechanical rules attached because I was asked to rule on them. Your mileage may vary (you’re obviously welcome to leave mechanical effects off altogether at your table). That said, I have a hard time believing the rogue can spot a pressure plate when the floor appears made of molten nacho cheese…
Enjoy! Hope you feel inspired and use some in your campaign or your curse tables.

2024.05.05 16:46 starsandnomoon CSAT 2023 Comprehension

Read this in continuation of the 2022 CSAT post so that you realise how tricks repeat even if the questions don’t.
To make the most of this post, read just the tricks, solve 2023 paper and then refer to explanation of every question. Reading the explanations directly will not help you much.
The general tricks are to remove 1. Extreme statements 2. Too specific statements 3. Counterintuitive/illogical statements 4. Statements no where mentioned in the passage 5. For “assumption” questions, read comment section. 6. To find crux of passage — follow this example. Suppose passage talks about how melting of polar caps is leading to sea level rise. Then the passage is NOT talking about global warming leading to melting of polar caps and it also NOT talking about afforestation to stop the melting. Often the cause/effect/solution of the passage are mentioned in the options for a question on the crux of the passage, however, we know these things from our general knowledge and not what the passage is talking about. So in crux, only restrict to what is mentioned in the passage and not what we know from our general knowledge. Usually when what is IMPLIED is asked, then sometimes a solution not mentioned in the solution apply. But that solution directly addresses the problem or cause mentioned in the passage. For example, the passage is about how air pollution is causing global warming, then “implementing emission standards to control air pollution” can be an implication of the passage because it directly solve a problem mentioned. (Refer Q2 to better understand this)
There are 27 questions in total, even if you get 22 right and 5 wrong, you can score 50 in this section alone!
As per Set A —
Q1) The passage is about water allocation, so the action required should also be about water allocation which is mentioned in Option A. Option B (interlinking), Option C (water transfer) and Option D (sectoral demands) are not even mentioned in the passage. Moreover, option B is extreme as it says ALL river systems to be interlinked. Option C can’t be right it cannot be an IMMEDIATE action as required by the question. Same for Option D. So while Option B, C, D might make sense in general, they are not related to the passage.
Q2) Observe how the options use words from the passage, but not in the context, the passage uses them. For example, it says “For an economy that will be more dependent on highly skilled workers, this poses a significant challenge. Here “this” is referring to how malnutritioned children have poor cognitive ability (mentioned in the line before it). It’s not talking about skill development program is the need (Option B) or health and nutrition of only skilled workers to be improved (Option C). Option C is also extreme as it says ONLY skilled workers. Similarly it doesn’t talk about education system or rural areas (Option A) — both these keywords are nowhere mentioned in the passage. The entire passage talks about how poor health and nutrition leads to (1) Less productivity today and (2) less potential tomorrow by reducing cognitive ability of malnourished children. So if the problem is health and nutrition then the IMPLICATION has to be something that solves this problem of health and nutrition (Option D). So again, while option A, B, C make sense in general, they are not related to the passage.
Q3) Option A is wrong because it puts major responsibility on the government — when the passage only talks about what government can do, not that it has the main responsibility for adaptation and mitigation. Option B is wrong because land use patterns nowhere mentioned. Option D is wrong because extreme – mitigation is NOT possible, also not what passage is talking about. Option C is the only suitable one — refer to last line of the passage.
Q11) Similar to Q2, observe how the options use words from the passage, but not in the context, the passage uses them. Passage says “Businesses” who fail to hedge will fail, NOT “Businesses” who causes emission need to close down/pay (Option A). Option B is opposite to what passage is saying. Passage is saying technological change may or may not help, so it can’t be the only solution. Moreover, ONLY solution is too extreme to be correct. Now, Refer to trick 5 on crux of message. Option D is talking about a solution when the entire passage is based on a problem. Solution ki toh baat hi nahin kari. “Renewable energy sources” nowhere mentioned in the passage. Option C is correct because passage talks about how technological change may or may not help and businesses that do not hedge against this uncertainty will fail. Option C is just reiterating this – you can’t wait until technology improves ie you have to hedge.
Q12) Edit after the official answer key To find rational assumption, check every option to see if the passage can be true even if the assumption is false. Initially I thought Option C is right but making this change after the official answer key. I think Option C could be wrong based on the fact that it sounds a bit too extreme with “even if environmental problems go unattended” Option B is wrong because government is nowhere mentioned, the passage is about individual efforts. Option D is wrong because western values are nowhere mentioned.
Q13) In crux message, eliminate anything not mentioned in the passage — Universal Basic Income (Option A), GM crops (Option B), Fortifying (Option D). Moreover the line “Part of the reason nutrition is under threat worldwide is that our food systems are not properly responding to nutritional needs”. So food systems must respond to nutritional needs, that is, food waste nutrition should be focused, which is given by option B.
Q21) Implication of the passage = solve a problem that the passage directly mentions, and not a problem, we know from our general knowledge. Passage talks about the need for a scientific and reliable information and not arbitrary actions because they won’t make a difference. Option a wrong because not mentioned in the passage. Option C wrong because driving without periodic pollution test is not a problem the passage mentions. Option D wrong because no reason has been mentioned as to why administration tends to make Arbitary decisions, the only thing that has been mentioned is that they are unfair. Option B is correct because it’s picked from the last line of passage. Scientific and reliable information = evidence based approach, knee-jerk reaction = Arbitary decisions.
Q22) Passage is talking about how rapid growth in international markets have made corporate governance and economic/political agenda. Then it talks about how effective corporate governance leads to more external financing by investors because it leads to standards of disclosure, timely and accurate, financial reporting etc. Option A is wrong because corporate governance has become an important agenda and not access to good external financing (line 2 of passage). Like 2 also talks about how rapid growth in international capital markets has led to corporate governance being an agenda of discussion and not necessarily GOOD corporate governance. Option D is wrong because robber supply chain, nowhere mentioned in the passage. Option B is right from last line of passage.
Q23) Passage is talking about what elephants do is also helping other species. It is not talking about only the Home range of elephants to be vast area of rich biodiversity (Option A) because home range ke bahar bhi ho sakta hain. Option C is wrong because it is too extreme – CANNOT be maintained without elephants. Passage Bol raha hain ki elephants are important and not necessary. Option D is wrong because it is too specific – regenerate forests with species AS PER THEIR requirement, aisa toh kuch bola hi nahin passage ne. It only says elephant apne liye karta hain cheezein (not as per other species requirement) and woh bas baakiyon ke kaam aajati hain. Option B is correct because it says elephants benefit biodiversity which is what the passage is about.
Q31) Both assumptions aren’t related to the passage because it does not talk about government/private sector. There are only 2 problems mentioned — segregation is rare, recycling, mostly with informal sector rather than formal sector (could be private/public, doesn’t matter), only small budget left for processing/resource recovery. So private ya govt karein, uski baat hi nahin hain.
Q32) Option a is wrong because cost of energy generation not mentioned in the passage. Option B is wrong because it is extreme – most ideal way, the passage only says biomethanation offers a major solution and not that it is the only/most ideal one. Option D is wrong because the last line gives biomethanation as a solution for the biodegradable component of municipal solid waste, so it cannot be inadequate. Option C is correct because it is directly mentioned in the passage – “waste to energy fit in the chain AFTER SEGREGATION, collection, recycling…..”
Q33) Option A wrong because the first line itself says that “a claim (or assumption, as asked in the question) is that organic farming is inherently safer and healthier” Option B is correct because it directly solves a problem mentioned in the passage — “FARMERS AND CONSUMERS ARE NOT ONLY CONFUSED…”, so they need to be educated.
Q34) Option A, B and D are wrong because they are too extreme and counter logic, moreover the passage is about how organic farming lacks awareness about best use and NOT that it is inherently not a good idea. This awareness issue is addressed by option C – “farmers need to be guided”
Q35) Eliminate options not mentioned in the passage. Option A goes against last line “intensive, monoculture agriculture practises can perpetuate food and nutrition security”. Option D — subsidies are nowhere mentioned as a cause. Option B and C are more generic and directly related to the passage.
Q41) Edit after official answer key The answer is A ie Assumption 1 is correct. I am unable to justify that, if anyone can, please it up in comments. Here’s the original explanation I gave — This is a relatively tougher question to comprehend, so in case you are not able to solve it during exam time, better to leave it and move to easier questions. Option A is wrong because global warming as a cause is nowhere mentioned. in fact, no cause has been mentioned only the impact of early and longer spring. Option B is wrong because the only thing the passage mentions is that as the ice melts earlier, the birds don’t return – it talks nothing about it, not being good for bird populations.
Q42) The passage talks about poor nitrogen use efficiency and its harmful impact on the environment. It doesn’t talk about any solution like switching to crops that do not require excess nitrogen (Option C) and replacing conventional agriculture (Option D). Agar passage mein problem poor nitrogen use efficiency hain toh solution should also address nitrogen use efficiency which is done by Option A. Option B is wrong because it is too extreme.
Q43) Option B, C and D are not even closely discussed in the passage. And Option A is directly addressed in the line "The crucial question in the next few years will be how resources, technologies and REGULATIONS are used to support the victims of climate change”
Q51) Option A wrong because too extreme — food, yielding trees cannot just replace other trees. Option B wrong because passage only talks about how food from non-conventional agriculture helps in food security, and NOT that without conventional agriculture, food security cannot be ensured. That just becomes too extreme. Option C seems probably but notice “To help the poor” in the end, which makes it too specific and poor as a section haven’t been mentioned in the passage. Option D is the most general statement that goes with the theme
Q52) Passage is about how pollution from antibiotic factories. It’s NOT about environmental awareness among people (Option B). Then Option C and D are wrong on two fronts — (1) they talk about solutions when the entire passage is just highlighting a problem and (2) they are both very extreme extreme solutions that don’t make logical sense. option A is correct because it gives solution to the problem that is mentioned in the passage. Problem mentioned is pollution from antibiotics, factories and solution is proper effluent treatment protocols taaki pollution release hi na!
Q53) Passage ka point hain pehle fundamental padhai at primary level karo to build a base, tabhi toh uske upar higher education ki skills learn kar payenge. Similar to Q2 and 11, observe how the options use words from the passage, but not in the context, the passage uses them. Compare how knowledge economy has been used in passage v. How it is used in Option B. Option C is counter intuitive to what the passage is talking about. Passage bol raha hain build foundational skills, while Option C is saying build higher education skills. Option D is wrong because parents ki baat hi nahin huyi.
Q61) Option A wrong because “societal structure” nowhere mentioned. Option B wrong because the passage is talking about confusion due to many choices and not uncertainties around those choices. Option C wrong because again, it is about having too many choices that impaired our decision making ability due to this plethora of choices and not because someone is influencing our opinion. Option D is the only suitable answer that talks about what is directly mention in the passage
Q62) Edit after Official Key Only those solutions will work that directly address a problem mentioned in the passage, not solutions that would work in general sense. So problems mentioned in the essay are (1) onerous bureaucracy (2) scepticism of organised financial institutions (3) lack of basic information about which of the services and providers is best for each family (4) how one can make the transition between them if necessary (iska matlab hain transition between the physical assets they invest in and the financial products the passage wants them to invest in). So all problems mentioned here are on the consumehouseholds side. So solutions must also be addressing the household side exclusively on the 4 problems mentioned. Now coming to the solutions mentioned in the question — Option 1 one is correct because it addresses problem (4), that is, only if there is a flexible environment, can households make a transition from physical assets to financial assets. Option 2 is correct because it addresses problem 3 by providing information on what is best for each family (customised solutions). Option 3 is correct because it talks about a generic solution which encompasses the above two.
Q63) Passage talks about pros and cons of patents. Nowhere it is mentioned about dependence on other countries (countries ki toh baat hi nahin huyi) ie Option 2. Similarly, Option 3 is talking about a solution when the essay only mentions the pros and cons of a patent. Since the option is about pros and cons, Option 4 talks about finding a balance between the two, and thus it’s correct.

2024.05.02 19:53 mastermindwarrior How to get hired at Panda Express as a GENERAL MANAGER!

I have interviewed with Panda several times. I just interviewed with them today for the gm role and I’m not sure if I will be moving to the next round of interviews. I asked the interviewer did she have any hesitations about me or my resume and she said that it’s against policy to provide feedback so that tells me she may not move me forward. I’m not sure if my experience is an issue or the way that I answer questions. It could also mean that I don’t fit their culture because they only like to hire white and asians for management. I also wanted to mention that the interviewer seemed very interested in our conversation and would always smile when I asked her questions and while I was answering her questions. I just want to know what they’re looking for as far as experience and race. I forgot to mention that I have 4+ years of management in the food industry.

2024.05.02 17:04 Dat_Guy_V Mythras for a Fallout setting

TL;DR I'm in the process of working on a Fallout game/setting using the Mythras ruleset. In this post I will present my ideas so far and include a bit of my design thoughts and processes. This will be presented through headings, ranging from Skills, Careers and Perks. Feel free to critique and discuss ideas!
About me: My Mythras experience is not vast, but still adequate - I've also played BRP-engine games like CoC, Delta Green and Runequest for +5 years.
I do have access and have read Mythras Firearms as well as the Mythras Imperative. Me and my group(s) will also be playing using Foundry VTT, so some extra bookkeeping will be automated, mostly meaning that I am not super afraid of extra "bookkeeping mechanics".
My experience of the actual Fallout the Roleplaying Game by Modiphius has been of general disappointment, though it got some bits that I like. I'll use some wording and ideas from Modiphius' game when designing my own Fallout setting using the Mythras ruleset.
What am I looking for?
Help, tips and suggestions on the various mechanics of Mythras within the Fallout universe. In general, I would like to stay true to both Mythras and Fallout, though one would probably need to dismiss one in certain design situations.
Looking at the chapters/headings of this post, feel free to only comment on aspects you find interesting. There is no need to force yourself to read the whole post.
Why Mythras and Fallout?

Character Creation

Characteristics
It'd be great to have S.P.E.C.I.A.L.S but for simplicity we will stay with the Mythras or BRP base characteristics: Strength (STR), Constitution (CON), Size (SIZ), Dexterity (DEX), Intelligence (INT), Power (POW), Charisma (CHA).
Fallout otherwise have Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Agility and Luck. Five out of these seven have more or less a direct counterpart. Fallout's Luck and Perception will be partly covered by POW. Perception moves to become a skill.
Species/Origin
One needs not to be confined to just humans; I figure Ghoul and Super Mutant would be the go-to alternatives here aside from human. Additional alternatives would be Synths (3rd generation) or other robots like Mister Handy.
Pulp
How much of the Pulp Heroic character rules would you use? As of now, I only have double the Healing Rate, but might have to include other aspects also to make the game a bit less deadly.
The addition of perks will make characters more powerful. However, there is no magic that characters could benefit from. I would imagine characters will also benefit greatly from consumables and equipment in general.

Skills

While Fallout uses a smaller set of skills than Mythras and most percentile-based games, I think a mix would suit well. We don't want skill bloat, with too many skills overlapping or too many skills ending up being either useless or extremely situational. At the same time, having enough skills to let players feel like they can specialize and be the only one that covers certain skills is also a relevant approach.
I also would like to incentive the allocation of skill points into more niche skills such as Culture, Lore, Art, and Craft. This could be done by separating the pools of Professional and Standard skill points more during character creation.
In Fallout 4 skills were entirely replaced by perks. The Fallout 3 skill list includes: Barter, Big Guns, Energy Weapons, Explosives, Lockpicking, Medicine, Melee Weapons, Repair, Science, Small Guns, Sneak, Speech, Unarmed. New Vegas added a Survival skill. New Vegas also merged Big Guns and Small Guns into a Guns skill, with the design intention that there weren't any early game Big Guns to use. Big Guns would include Flamers, Miniguns, Missile Launchers.
Combat Styles are therefore something I would like your suggestions on. Should I handle Combat Styles more like traditional weapon types like in Call of Cthulhu, i.e., have Combat Style (Shotgun), Combat Style (Guns), Combat Style (Rifles), Combat Style (Swords), Combat Style (Blunt Weapons), etc.?
Right now I am working with the idea of having 5 Combat Styles + Unarmed. Them being Big Guns, Energy Weapons, Explosives, Melee Weapons, and Small Guns. Is Small Guns to broad (making use of all sorts of pistols, shotguns and rifles)? Is Explosives a redundant skill? Especially so that you would need Athletics to throw an explosive. Perhaps have Explosives as just a professional skill, used to disarm mines, craft and handle explosives, and general knowledge about explosives.
As of now, this is the skill-list, with standard skills listed as (S) and professional skills listed as (P), somewhat arbitrarily:

Culture

There are a number of cultures, but five basic types: Urban, Wasteland, Militant, Criminal, Nomadic. Any other name suggestions for these?
It could be relevant to try and differentiate Cultures with Cults/Brotherhood. Would "Vault Dweller" or "Brother of Steel" be more of a Culture or Cult/Brotherhood?
Urban
Urban would be the 'Civilized' one.
Culture/Lore: NCR, the Enclave, New Reno, Vault City, Shady Sands, etc.
Standard Skills: Insight, Persuade, Willpower; and four of the following: Brawn, Deceive, Endurance, Evade, Investigate, Perception.
Combat Style: Any.

Cultural Passions
Wasteland
Wasteland would be the more rural or tribal survivor.

Standard Skills: Evade, Nature, Persuade, and four of the following: Athletics, Brawn, Deceive, Endurance, Insight, Investigate, Perception, Stealth, Survival.
Combat Style: Any.
Professional Skills: Animal Handling, Administer, Art (any), Barter, Craft (any), Culture (any), Lore (any), Repair, Streetwise.

Standard Skills: Athletics, Brawn, Endurance, Evade, and three of the following: Deceive, Insight, Intimidate, Perception, Persuade, Survival, Willpower.
Combat Style: Any.
Professional Skills: Art (any), Craft (any), Culture (any), Lore (any), Pilot (any), Repair, Streetwise.
Cultural Passions
Criminal
I'm thinking raiders here mostly. This kind of overlaps a bit with most other cultures.
Culture/Lore: Fiends, Jackals, Khans, etc.
Standard Skills: Athletics, Evade, Nature, and four of the following: Barter, Brawn, Deceive, Endurance, Insight, Intimidate, Perception, Stealth, Survival.

Cultural Passions
Nomadic
This would be the more 'lone survivor' culture, or nomads traveling in small bands.
Culture/Lore: Commonwealth, Mojave, etc.
Standard Skills: Athletics, Endurance, Evade, Survival, and four of the following: Brawn, Deceive, Insight, Nature, Perception, Willpower.
Combat Style: Any.
Professional Skills: Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Art (any), Barter, Craft (any), Culture (any), Lore (any), Medicine.
Cultural Passions

Fame & Infamy (Reputation)

One major and great aspect of the Fallout games is the reputation you can gain from various factions.
"Fame is positive and Infamy is negative. Both types of reputation are tracked separately, the combination of which determines one's reputation with any given faction. The benefits and drawbacks of any given reputation depend on the group itself. The characters may receive discounts with merchants, provoke attacks from hired thugs, or simply be treated differently.
Points are accumulated by various means. Completing quests, helping people, and generally making oneself useful will result in accumulating positive reputation points. Negative reputation can be earned by things such as killing members of a group, being caught stealing, lying, being rude or treating people poorly, betraying the faction or completing quests for the opposite side."

Careers

With this list of careers I would like to cover most (if not all) professions in the wastelands. Is there a career you think is missing or should be renamed? Is there a career who should have their skills switched around?

Perks

I've added a number of Perks trying to mostly be faithful to the original perks of the games. Characters can choose a single perk during character creation, than perhaps every other progression process.
Below is a selection of perks. Consider aspects such as balance and wording.
Perk Rank Requirement Description
Action Boy/Girl 1 None You gain one additional Action Point during the first round of combat.
↘️ 2 DEX or INT 14 Instead of above, you gain one additional Action Point permanently.
Adamantium Skeleton 1 CON 13, non-robot Your skeleton has been infused with indestructible metal. All your limbs Hit Locations receive +2 natural armor.
↘️ 2 CON 15 When taking a Serious Wound to a limb, you roll Endurance twice versus the attack, taking the better result.
↘️ 3 CON 17 All your limbs Hit Locations receive +4 natural armor (instead of +2).
Center Mass 1 DEX 14 Fire straight! When you make a ranged attack, you may choose to strike the target’s abdomen or chest location. Decide before you shoot. You do not need the ‘Choose Location’ Special Effect, but you may only do this once per Combat Round.
Educated 1 INT 12 As you learn, you grow. You gain one additional Experience roll during progression.
Gun Fu 1 DEX 13 You've learned to apply ancient martial arts to gunplay! When you succeed at a ranged attack with a gun, you may use that same level of success on a second target during the following turn but the same round. You cannot use any Special Effects on the second attack.
↘️ 2 DEX 14 As above and increase the damage to the second target by +2.
↘️ 3 DEX 15 When you succeed at a ranged attack with a gun, you may use that same level of success on a second and third target during the following turns but the same round. You cannot use any Special Effects on these attacks. Increase the damage to the second and third targets by +4 (instead of 2).
Inspirational 1 CHA 12 Because you lead by example, you and all your allies may reroll one Experience roll each during progression.

Light Footed 1 DEX 12 While sneaking, you never trigger mines or floor-based traps.
↘️ 2 DEX 14, POW 12 You roll Stealth at decreased difficulty.
Mister Sandman 1 DEX 14 You are an agent of death. Your silenced weapons do an additional +1D4 in damage against surprised foes.
↘️ 2 DEX 15 Your silenced weapons do an additional +1D6 (instead of +1D4) in damage against surprised foes.
Night Person 1 None You are a creature of the night! Reduce any difficulty increase due to nightly darkness by one.
↘️ 2 None You gain +2 INT and POW during the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Pain Train 1 STR 15, CON 12 Choo Choo! All aboard! While wearing Power Armor and taking the Charge action, all enemies in your path have to roll an Endurance or Evade roll. On a failure, they take 1D4 damage + damage modifier and are staggered for one round. Robots and enemies with a combined SIZ+STR above 35 are immune to the stagger.
↘️ 2 STR 16 The Endurance or Evade roll is made at one degree higher difficulty. The damage is increased to 1D6 (instead of 1D4).
↘️ 3 STR 17 The damage is increased to 1D10 (instead of 1D6). On a failure, they are also knocked prone. Only enemies with a combined SIZ+STR above 45 are immune to the stagger.
Paralyzing Palm 1 Unarmed 70 % Your unarmed attacks gain the ‘Paralysing’ weapon trait.
Quick Hands 1 DEX 15 In combat, there's no time to hesitate. The Load time for guns is 1 lower.
Shotgun Surgeon 1 Small Guns 50 % And I started blasting. As a critical Special Effect, your shotgun shot can gain the ‘Armor Piercing’ trait.
↘️ 2 Small Guns 75 % When you take the ‘Maximize Damage’ Special Effect, the opponent also has to roll Endurance or become staggered for a round.
↘️ 3 Small Guns 90 % On a critical success, your shotgun shot automatically gains the ‘Bonus Limb Damage’ weapon trait.
Steady Aim 1 STR 12, DEX 11 Stay on target! Hip fire accuracy is improved when firing any ranged weapon. Whenever you spend a Luck point to alter your ranged attacks, you automatically gain the ‘Maximize Damage’ Special Effect.
Terrifying Presence 1 SIZ 12, STR 10, CHA 12 You may take two actions to make an opposed Intimidation roll against an opponent’s Willpower. On a success, the opponent flees in fear. They must move away from you during this round of combat.
↘️ 2 One of SIZ, STR or CHA at least 15 When you roll Intimidation, you may reroll once.

Weaponry

I've always seen weapon descriptions from Mythras to be a bit lacking (or rather confusing for newcomers) when it comes to weapon traits and Special Effects. For instance, most bladed melee weapons in Mythras are listed to have either the Bleed or Impale Special Effects (or both), making one assume that they are restricted from other Special Effects.
I don't have a solution to this, though, and I wouldn't want to list every single Special Effect for every single weapon. Either way, below are some selected Weapon tables without any Special Effects listed.
All costs is in bottle caps and straight from New Vegas. At a glance, some weapons seem very overpriced or under-priced, but there are factors such as ammo scarcity and other properties that come into effect.
One Handed Weapons

Other Stuff

Creating Cults/Brotherhoods from scratch is something I haven't had time to do thus far.
I've created a radiation mechanic that works like this: Eating and drinking most food items or entering an irradiated zone gives the player radiation poisoning, or ‘RADs’. Characteristics drop at certain thresholds, and radiation poisoning kills the character at 100 rads.
There are five thresholds (20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 rads).
Rads Level Effect
0-19 No Effect -
20-39 Minor Radiation Poisoning -1 CON
40-59 Advanced Radiation Poisoning -2 CON, -1 DEX
60-79 Critical Radiation Poisoning -3 CON, -2 DEX, -1 STR
80-99 Deadly Radiation Poisoning -3 CON, -2 DEX, -2 STR
100+ Fatal Radiation Poisoning Death
Rad exposure is usually limited; only very rarely will zones be so irradiated that venturing into them results in a quick death. One needs to stand in +1 rad water for a significant time and more generally it is possible to move through radioactive water dozens of times before reaching the 20 rad threshold.
When exposed to radiation, per the GM:s decree a roll of Endurance should be made. The difficulty grade depends on the level of radiation. How often these rolls are made are up to the GM but in the table below there is an estimated period of which a new roll should be made.
Level of Radiation Period Difficulty Effect (Critical, Success, Failure, Fumble)
Minor Radiation Every hour of exposure Easy 0, 0, 1, 3
Major Radiation Every hour of exposure Standard 0, 1, 1D10, 10
Critical Radiation Every 20 minutes of exposure Standard 0, 2, 1D10+1, 11
Deadly Radiation Every 10 minutes of exposure Hard 0, 3, 1D10+2, 12
Fatal Radiation Every minute of exposure Formidable 0, 6, 1D10+5, 15
Adding to this are ways to lower your radiation poisoning (paying a doctor, using RadAway, etc.), and having your Radiation Resistance improved through clothing, armor or chems.
I have more tables on this and that but reddit formatting is killing me.
Edits: Formatting, added Characteristics summary.

2024.05.02 15:40 InverseFlash Respect Phil Hawkins! (Undead Unluck)

My concern toward various things…is starting to fade. But…though the feeling is meager…there are still people…who I want to save.
Phil Hawkins was the first child born in space. As part of a covert experiment to test human function outside the atmosphere, Phil's childhood was…not great, to say the least. He was placed into a cyborg body when he was only three years old, leading to stunted development, and he spent his days wondering and wandering the space station that never felt like a home. That is, until he found a family in the Union, who took him in as one of their own (his mom is still alive she just has no narrative presence).

2024.05.02 04:23 Frishysulie Having no knowledge of the fey before, my character is now indebted. help?

I'm new to D&D and while my GM does sometimes give me hints, she's also more than happy to let me make some pretty big blunders. Backstory is that my character Anitta is a spore druid from a place called the Necropolis in her world. It's a pretty evil take-over-the-world-burn-it-all kind of place, and Anitta over her adventure reformed. A former player's druid came to her in her dreams and taught her how to bond with nature, something the Necropolis severed to their druids. Recently, after defeating a big bad, she came home and upon stepping into her room was accosted by a skeletal hand around her neck as she heard, "BETRAYERRRR!" Her spells had formerly been focused through the empress of the Necropolis, and that was completely severed now as an undead army now marches her way. This leads to a party member taking her to see the witch in the hills to get her powers back. They go and the woman invites them in. My GM thought she made it explicitly clear this woman was fey in her descriptions, but I don't know anything about the fey so it meant nothing to me. Just an old woman to Anitta. She's offered food, and accepts. She asks for help and explains the situation. The witchy woman forcefully takes her blood, puts it in her soup, and tells her to drink. Anitta drinks without question. Says her powers will return, can't say when. They leave, Anitta thanks her as they do.
After the game, GM chimes in. "By the way.. your fellow adventurer has been apprenticing with her for a while now. She knows the rules about fey and basically watched this whole thing and said nothing. And you basically enslaved yourself to that fey now by taking a gift, eating her food, and thanking her."
What do I do? Sticking with character lore, the only plan to undo this is that Anitta, even when she was evil, believed in helping those who help her. She takes care of her friends. Seeing this witchy fey woman as a friend for helping, and not just with this I might add, she is genuinely motivated to both repay the kindness and then some; she also still has no idea in character that she's done anything wrong or severely indebted herself. I figured if and when it comes up, that she would be heartbroken and mention something to the effect of, "You are my friend and I would gladly aid you even if you did not ask." How well would that go over ya think? (I don't have high hopes, my GM is a sadist. XD :editedit: but in a good way! She's a good friend, she's not setting me up for failure here. It's just part of the story that my character doesn't know much about the outside world, she has to learn somehow.) What alternatives do I have?
*editedit* I'm enjoying the campaign. The fey is being used as a tool to advance the story, to explain why characters are picking up skills. It's all part of the journey. So this whole "You basically enslaved yourself to a fey" isn't like I'm boned, but it leaves me an opportunity to figure out how to problem solve. I'm just not sure, with the fey ettiquete rules, exactly how to do that. My brain is very.. follow the rules exactly as presented, I take everything literally. It makes it difficult sometimes. I don't want to kill the fey, I want them as a resource. Quite frankly, I'd like to find a way to truly become friends because in our story this woman is secluded, unfriendly to the local population because of their treatment toward her, and looked down upon. So is my character, people very often discriminate against her because she comes from the necropolis. It might not go well, I realize. I just want ideas to try. It's not a dire situation, it's that being familiar with options helps me be less anxious as I play.

This is an exhaustive ranking of isekai wormfics, according to my totally unbiased, objective, and clearly superior opinion. Enjoy.

Great vegetables

Queen's Circle, Dresden, Post-GM. Taylor was living a normal life as a college student in an alternate Chicago when she met Harry and got introduced to the supernatural world. Because being Harry Dresden is suffering.
This is excellent. Two buddies agaisnt the evils of the city, their team, and the way the story handles the crossover elements. So good. And then there's Derdriu, best girl.
The Sanctionedverse. Great comedies, more details are in the link.
Administrative Mishap, Supergirl (DC), Post-GM. QA gets isekaided to the Supergirlverse, has to live in Taylor's body, and develops a personality.
Addy is a terribly likable main character. Her headspace and worldview are very entertaining, and her personality is lovely. The other characters are also nice, and I love The Live Wire.
The drama is good, there are many moments of well written tension, or comfort, or emotional tiredness, etc. As expected by her other works, you can tell the author is good at feelbending.
On the other hand, the action is often dull and repetitive. Not always, but more often than not, the action is a drag. People has boring and generic powers, or they forget some of their own powers, or don’t use their powers to the fullest, etc. DC is just not a good setting for this kind of story, not without the audiovisuals making up for its glaring flaws.
Forgotten, Forsaken, Kancolle, Post-GM. Taylor reborns as an Abyssal.
I just love the tone. It is very dark, some arcs are straight up misery porn. But the story is also capable of pulling out some of the most wholesome, decompressing scenes I've read. How it can shift from torture and despair to cathartic bliss in only a few chapters, I have no idea, but I like it.
The world building is also fantastic. People, events, factions, places, the magic system, etc. The world just feels so vast, and the fanfic does such a good job exploring it from the eyes of a newcomer. This one is a must for world building enjoyers.
Oh, did I mention this is shipgirl fiction? That part is cool too.
Tower of Adamant, Dresden. Alexandria isekaided to Winter.
Very cool isekai, especially if you discover the setting along with her. In a constant state of intrigue, Alexandria must discover all she can about where she is and how this new world works without giving out how lacking her knowledge is. If you know nothing about the Dresdenverse, this is the fic you should start with. The characterization was top notch, probably the best Alexandria in the fandom?
Asphyxiation, Dresden, Post-GM. College student Rebecca Costa-Brown is tormented by dreams of white halls, golden light, and insects down her throat.
Arana, Bleach, Post-GM. Afterlife is a hell where everyone loses themselves and ends up eating each other. And they prey on the living too! Taylor's determination keeps her from slipping away and she remains close to Lisa.
Holy shiiiiit, what a read! It was fantastic, I loved the tone. A setting even more depressing and fucked up, a lot of good escalation and a Homura-esque relationship, what with going against the natural order of the universe for the person you care the most. It was very great and I ship them. The third arc was a bit wordy, but aside from that I loved the whole fic.

Wonderful reads

A Name to Conjure By, snip, Otherverse, Post-GM. A practitioner reads Worm and decides that Taylor would make for a great coworker, so he wills her into reality.
SCP-3108, snip, SCP, Post-GM. Taylor is secured, contained and protected.
All My Sins Remembered, Superman & Lois (DC), Post-GM. Taylor is the English teacher of Superman's kids.
A story overflowing with potential. It’s also one of the few isekais that remains connected to the wormverse.
Memoirs, Pale, Post-GM. Taylor moves into the small town of Kennet, and her presence doesn't go unnoticed.
Game of Monarchs, Game of Thrones, Post-GM. Petyr Baelish watches as a hole in the sky drops an unconscious girl.
You won't believe how well this story works. What the hell.
Taylor Hebert and the Army of Acromantula, snip, HP, Post-GM. Taylor reincarnates and goes to Hogwarts.
Intercession, complete, HP, Post-GM. Contessa gives Taylor a new life on another Earth. A decade later, her son Harry receives a letter.
While the story didn't stick the landing, it is still an excellent read all the way through. The author did promise a second version fixing the issuese, and indeed you can read the updated (and much better) versions of some important scenes in the extras, but unfortunately the final work never materialized.
The Berserker, Fate Zero, Post-GM. Taylor summoned on the Holy Grail War as the worst class she could get slotted into. Good thing she's used to major setbacks.
Skittering Shadows, Naruto DoS, Post-GM. Taylor is reborn as an Aburame (ninja that does bugs).
Died before any meaningful cross could happen, so might as well count as a normal Naruto isekai. Nonetheless, a wonderful and dead story.
Scarab, snip, RWBY, Post-GM. Pyrrha has a troublesome teammate.
Escalation City, Yu Gi Oh, Post-GM. Pegasus dreams about GM and draws Taylor’s card, which ends up summoning her in his dimension.
A dumb story, but in that charmingly delighful way. Damn I can't believe this how well this cross works.
Remnant of a Worm, RWBY, Post-GM. Taylor wakes up in a hospital in Vale and runs away.
This has a very good and unique characterization, in which instead of ignoring or time skipping away Taylor's traumas, it works with them. And the story doesn't pull any punches either, it almost goes full on misery porn for a few chapters. The action and slice of life scenes are very enjoyable as well.
TWNY, RWBY, Post-GM. Taylor gets isekaided to Ozpin’s desk, she’s a moth-girl now, and Yang has hots for her.
Well written racism and a ship with chemistry, in this fandom full of puddle-deep nazis and cheap femslashes? Oh, yes. The plot looks promising too.
Reprieve/Reform, Marvel, Post-GM. Taylor gets inserted in the Parker family. She lives a normal life until Peter gets superpowers, which prompts her to get back to the cape game to take care of her "big brother".
A few problems with the prose aside, it is a fantastic story. The action is pretty good, and mostly kept to street levels. The slow fusion of the settings is interesting and something we don't get to see often. And the character writing is great, Peter and Taylor have one of the best dynamics in fanfiction. That mix of awkwardness and sibling love is super engaging.
This Is Your Only Purpose, Destiny isekai/fusion, Post-GM. A nameless girl resurrects in a post-apocalyptic future.
The action is fantastic. It is very well written and easy to follow, more in line with something methodical like spec-ops rather than a chaotic street gunfight. The enemies always have superiority in either numbers, raw power, or both, keeping the girl and her teammates on their toes. And is full of variety, with many different situations or environments.
But the story itself... It's fine. It is not bad, in fact the way this fusion works is very interesting, and there are some very memorable moments. But the pace is very slow, and the characters don't have a lot going on. It's clear where the strengths of this fanfic lay.
Exodus, complete, BH6, Post-GM. Hiro and Baymax rescue a dying, mysterious girl, and they bond upon subsequent visits to her rehabilitation.
Holy shit, an actual rehabilitation arc for her brain injuries. That was nice. The action is very nice too, with a shoutout to the crowbar scene in particular, which was super epic. And enjoyable character writing as well.
This is story is far from perfect, and it has a good amount of flaws, some of which actually piss me off a bit. Nonetheless, t pulls off a competent redemption arc for Taylor.

A decent time

Necrofantasia, snip, Touhou, Post-GM. Gensokyo has a new resident.
Tattered Capes Under a Shattered Moon, RWBY, Post-GM. Defiant and Dragon land on Remnant with no way back home.
Exile, snip. Something goes wrong during the bank heist, and Lisa and Amy get isekaided to a barren planet.
If you like it and want more, the first part Kim Possible fanfic Alone, Together is not only a similar take, but one of the best fanfics I've ever read. It beats everything on this post. The second part sucks tho.
The High Priest, Dresden. Eidolon is isekaided to a random street, on a random city, on a random alternate Earth. And for the first time in a long time, he can be a real hero.
Paradise Lost, and Found (1, 2, 3), snip, MHA. Eden gets isekaided to MHA as an amnesiac child.
I've only had Child!Eden for a day and a half, but if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
Our Retirement Academia, MHA, Post-GM. Taylor and Sophia are married and own a café.
Aside from the out of character couply parts (which I like, btw), there's a lot of small and reflective moments.
Night's End, Days Begun, MHA. Taylor, Lisa, Amy and Vicky get isekaided during the bank heist. 15 years later, they work at UA High School. Himiko gets adopted by Pillbug.
Isn't therapy an amazing superpower? This is a nice fixfic, even if some fixes are too forced. Most of the narration are POVs of characters natives of the setting, which was enjoyable. More isekais should do that. The tournament arc was too long, I did not like that.
One Hell of an Afternoon, Young Justice (DC), Post-GM. Taylor isekaided to Gotham. She also has brute powers now.
The first quarter of the fic is solo vigilantism in Gotham, which was very fun. Then she joins the young justice as an instructor, which isn't as fun. I just don't really care about these kids. It's probably more enjoyable for a DC fan.
Aspects, HP, Post-GM. Taylor, Blake, Sylvester and a few other people get isekaided to the Potterverse.
Familiar, Otherverse (Pact). Taylor dies during Cell. A few dimensions away, she rises as Molly's new bogeyman.
Not gonna lie, I find the relationship between Taylor and Molly way more interesting than dealing with Scion or fighting some goblins. I wish it had ignored the action or the Worm side of the crossover, and focused exclusively in these two. We just don't have many stories with intrigue and suspicion in this fandom.
Butterflies in my Stomach (1, 2), snip, MCU. After something goes wrong during the Echidna fight, Skitter and Clockblocker find themselves in some desert.
WannaBee, Hazbin Hotel, Post-GM. Taylor ends up in hell. Literally. And Alec is here too!
Witch, The Witcher, Post-GM. Lisa and Victoria go out drinking and somehow wake up in a forest in the middle of nowhere. They get mistaken for witches.

Meh. Didn't like it, didn't dislike it.

Breathe, snip, Demon Slayer, Post-GM. Taylor is resurrected as a demon by Tamayo.
Fucking Tinkers, SAO, Post-GM. Taylor gets plugged into SAO.
Boring beguinnings, but the latter parts are actually thrilling. Too bad that it takes too long to get there, and then it dies.
Paradoxical, Destiny, Post-GM. Taylor works for a different kind of alien queen.
Damp Detours, snip, Subnautica. Taylor finds herself dropped over an alien sea.
Salve, HP. A bunch of Death Eaters try to summon their Dark Lord, but instead they get Bonesaw.
A short and dead story with a lot of potential.
Woe Betide, APGTE, Post-GM. Taylor reincarnates and grows old in Creation.
It works as an introduction to get me interested in a longer story... but there's no longer story.
An Idiot's Guide to the Underworld. Taylor wakes as a god.
Same as the previous story. Good introduction, but unremarkable read on it's own. I did dislike that it narrates gameplay, for some reason.
Saving The World in 287 Steps, snip, Zelda. Contessa does a Breath of the Wild speedrun.
Is fun, but the joke runs dry by the end, specially with such a lengthy bossfight.
Spirit of Nature, original. The Undersiders and a few heroes get isekaided to a medieval world and are mistaken for deities.
A Cape in Konoha, complete, Naruto, Post-GM. TINO gets inserted in the body of Sakura Haruno.
Well Traveled. TINO is a Planeswalker who has adventures in random settings.
The first two arcs are really bad, but it improves from there. It never really becomes great tho, and it died when it was finally getting interesting.
These are the Voyages, Star Trek, Post-GM. Taylor’s career on the Starfleet is on the line because of an insubordination incident.
The First Light of Morning, snip, Dark Souls, Post-GM. Taylor gets isekaided to Anor Londo and becomes friends with a Fire Keeper.
Dungeon Warlord, complete, Danmachi, Post-GM. Taylor becomes a hybrid monster.
A decent read as long as you're willing to put up with some anime tropes, like the obsession with breast sizes (sigh). There's also that rushed train wreck of an ending, and the TINO characterization.
Ten Times, Post-GM. A collection of (mostly anime) TINO Post-GM isekai snippets/fics.
Mostly unremarkable, except a ocasional good one here and there. I guess each reader will have their own favorites.
I liked Four's a Party, Damed if I Do, and God Save the Queen. I used to like Chaos Theory, but then the author decided to turn Taylor's boobs into a plot element. I can't convey how much I fucking hate anime.

Post-isekais, characters returning home:

The River Keeps Running, complete. A tinkertech bomb goes off and sends Armsmaster and the Undersiders to another planet.
Godkiller. After a lustrum living as an isekai MC, Taylor retires and returns to Bet, where only a few days have passed.
Taylor is DOOMed, complete, DOOM. Taylor wakes up in Mars, and is full of demons.
The first part long and too repetitive, things get more entertaining once she returns to Brockton and fights the Nazis.
The Wonderful Adventures of Sophia Hess, Babysitter Extraordinaire, complete. Sophia and the kid she's babysitting end in a nightmare mirror dimension.
Miraculous Escalation, complete, Ladybug. When something goes wrong during the Echidna fight, Taylor finds herself in an alternate Paris, and has very poor first impressions with the local heroes.

TINOs, but they're fun so who cares

People just write a lot of out-of-character crossovers, for some reason. Alas, as long as they're good, I'm fine with it. And it turns out, there's a lot of that can provide a wonderful time as long as you overlook the TINO.
Felix Fortuna, HP, Post-GM. A de-aged and amnesiac Fortuna goes to Hogwarts.
Has a very adventurous feel, which is nice. The side character is from Flavia de Luce. I don't know those books, but I like her character. There's an Alexandria spin-off as well.
Undying Scarab, Warcraft, Post-GM. Taylor is raised as undead to serve Kel'Thuzad. Unknown to everyone, QA is there too, and she takes a very active role. With her help, Taylor becomes a magic prodigy.
Some action scenes can drag forever, and the prose is extremely wordy, but the plot and the magic stuff is cool.
Savage Khepri, Savage Divinity, Post-GM. Taylor first months in this new world are a fate worse than death. Fortunately, she's rescued by a tribe of powerful warriors.
My introduction to cultivation stories (chinese shonen). It's so good, it left me craving for more stuff of this genre.
Princess, complete, RWBY, Post-GM. Taylor spawns in Salem's home.
I liked A LOT the first half, and I reread it from time to time. The mothedaughter relationship, exploring the world, meeting people, Neo, taking over the criminal underworld just because, etc. So great.
The second half? It's bad. The author shoehorns the shipping so hard it turns the story into a fluffy lesbian harem monstrosity. It could have a pass if at least the characters had any chemistry or the author put a bit of effort into actually developing romance, but there was none of that.
A wand for Skitter, complete, HP, Post-GM. A very psycho Taylor gets isekaided to the body of an eleven years old muggleborn and gets sorted into Slytherin. So It Begins.
This story gets a lot of bashing because of its poorly written elements… which to be fair is mostly true. But, if all you're looking for is some shallow entertainment, oh boy it will deliver. This is so much fun.
Think of this story as a reverse slasher movie, an excuse to carnage the bad guys and not feel bad about it. Edgy as fuck and very over the top. Is great! As a bonus, this fic may just have the bestSimurghscene of the fandom.
I Woke Up As a Dungeon, Now What?, Post-GM. Taylor is reincarnated as a literal fantasy dungeon.
This one is so good, I would actually buy the book. Maybe someday the author will publish it, it's not like it would be too hard to edit out the Worm references. The plot is interesting, the characters are fun, the world building is decent and, a true rarity, it has well written LitRPG munchkin.
Ruk's collection, snip, Post-GM. A snip collection, some of which are isekais.
I haven't read the whole thread, but of the stories I checked out, the ones I rec are Jorogumo's (MHA) and The Consultant (Marvel). You can find them on the index.
Ship's Administration, Star Trek, Post-GM. Taylor becomes the personification of a Starfleet ship.
If it's your first shipgirl content, as was my case, you can find this story a bit weird. But it is nonetheless is a very entertaining story, so give it a try. Unfortunately, it died before fully merging these settings, which would have been cool to see. A Lisa subplot was also left on a cliffhanger.
Slouching Towards Nirvana, MHA, Post-GM. A troubled girl summons a spirit to possess her body and live her life in her place.
Surprisingly chill, even with the occasional action scene and the occasional problem to deal with. It really feels like some kind of retirement. A low stakes superhero second life.
I like a lot how the fic doesn't usurp the canon plot of MHA and makes up its own story within a small corner of this setting. I also enjoyed how it turned the language barrier into a story element, very smart.
Oogway's Little Owl, Kung Fu Panda. Oogway was meditating when perceives a girl in troubles, and decides to interfere. Now Taylor is an owl, and learns kung-fu.
I just can't convey how feel good the story is. Just pure distilled comfort.

Isekaided into the Wormverse:

Leaf, Cosmere. After getting lost during a Shadesmar expedition, Lift ends up stuck in Earth Bet. She proceeds by doing what she knows best: stealing food and hearts.
Vindication, Cosmere. Vin gets isekaided to the Leviathan fight, and gets knocked out by a tidal wave. She wakes handcuffed.
The post continues down here.

2024.04.28 19:13 kingcong95 Hell's Kitchen Thailand Episode 12

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCjbu5t25Pw&ab_channel=Hell%27sKitchenThailand
Challenge: The final six met some of the best street food vendors in Bangkok. Chef Off and Chef Ian spun a wheel to determine the chef-vendor pairs, then each vendor drew a straw from Chef Pom to determine the traditional street food dish each pair would have to cook. The head chefs would judge all 12 dishes without knowing who made what. Jib's basil and fried egg over rice and Beer's crispy catfish over rice both scored a perfect 12 which made them joint winners. The other four black jackets received mediocre reviews at best, with Bill's chicken noodle stir fry only netting 1 due to barely having any chicken. Khun Nan from Boonpak was the highest scoring vendor chef, with a perfect 12 on squid fried rice, going against Keng who scored 6.
Reward/punishment: Jib and Beer spent the day at Saiyok Elephant Park in Kanchanaburi, much to Keng's jealousy. The other four had to clean out the buffalo pens. Also, the channel has been aggressively promoting a spicy paste with Piero and now Maruay + Sous Chef Are appearing in ads.
Menu: Chef Pom's appetizers (Dawei chicken salad and beef pastry puffs), Chef Off's entrees (wagyu tenderloin and pork chop risotto), Chef Ian's desserts (harvest potted plant and banoffee tart, which must be deep fried and served tableside)
Service: The black jackets had relatively minor setbacks on appetizers and entrees. Kerr tore the gold leaf on a pastry puff but recovered. Beer needed Kerr and Jib's help on chicken salad before serving one with chicken pieces that were too small and prepared one more than what was on order, while Lookchan overcooked a tenderloin. However, the banoffee tableside station was a complete meltdown. Keng didn't fry the phyllo dough long enough, causing the ice cream to melt, while Bill forgot the berry compote. Jib and Beer went to help Keng after finishing entrees while Bill worked on the ice cream, but Beer caused further delays by burning the oil, forcing them to start over, for which Keng berated Beer in front of the customers while not realizing that he had run out of phyllo dough requiring even more help. With the communication at a complete standstill, and service unable to proceed due to Bill and Lookchan adding so much liquid nitrogen to the ice cream that it froze solid, Chef Ian had no choice but to close the kitchen, while demanding the four people who made the most mistakes to be nominated.
Elimination: Keng, Kerr, Bill, and Beer all nominated themselves. Jib argued for Bill to stay as he not only did his job but also others', citing the miscommunication as the reason for failing to complete service, but was unable to say who was primarily responsible (likely due to having gone on dates with both of the options). Chef Willment sent Kerr back in line and asked Keng and Bill for their side of the story. Bill took responsibility for the ice cream mistake, while Keng blamed Bill and Beer. Chef Pom finally asked Beer to explain why he needed so much help on salads. Ultimately, she decided to eliminate Keng for lacking the temperament of a head chef and refusing to be accountable for his mistakes.
Chef Pom's comment: "People who can become Hell Kitchen champions cannot just see other people's problems while forgetting to look at their own problems."

2024.04.28 13:10 TactiCool_99 [Online][PF2e][5euro][GMT] Outlaws of Alkenstar, a western steampunk adventure!

System: Pathfinder 2e
Slots: 3/5 (two open)
VTT: Foundry VTT from personal server, communication via Discord. Mic required in general, but I also know how to accommodate mute people if needed.
Schedule: Friday preferred, from 17:00 GMT+2; weekly run

2024.04.27 10:43 iFlatlander GAT Dagger: My next army builder!

GAT Dagger: My next army builder!
Hi there! I have been army building the HG Origin GMs and loving them. But I recently found the Dagger and love its design too!
At my local gunpla store, I walked in and found boxes of these Daggers next to the GMs. I instantly liked their look but didn't know anything about the Cosmic Era so I asked the clerk what these guys were about. He described them as CE's GM equivalent, and I instantly knew I would like these guys.
Building the Dagger was quick, easy, and fun. I'm definitely excited to build a bunch of them, and I'm even more excited to find extra bits for them. I realized that my first two builds (the Origin GM and 08th MS Team GM Ground Type) had spoiled me a bit. Those guys come with a ton of weapons and extra hands! But the Dagger has one gun, two beam swords, and a shield. And only two hands! And no stickers!
So now I'm gonna go into my gunpla store with even more to pick up. Extra hands, extra weapons, and waterslide decals. I want to experiment with 30MM decals, hands, and weapons to try and add some variety to these units. I'll post those results when I can try those experiments out.
I like to think about character design and the Dagger definitely gives me some food for thought, especially when using the GM as a point of reference. The GM, to me, has an appearance comparable to the Phase I Clone Trooper from Star Wars - the "good guys" that have good intentions, but aren't overly specialized and lack training. There's a sort of optimism with the GM, where even against horrifying odds you have to charge ahead side by side with your comrades and brave the horrors of battle with the hope you are doing the right thing.
The Dagger reminds me of Phase II Clone Trooper armor. There's a sense of professionalism, more practical maybe - but also something colder, more ready to bend rules and ignore pleas to get the job done. A prelude to Order 66 - I haven't started Seed, but if these guys are the bad guys I can see where these suits would be piloted by a faction that has become a far cry of what they once were and have become callous, but also efficient.
I can't wait to trick these guys out, and build even more!

2024.04.25 21:40 Rainwhisker Do Trial Ritual Anathemas end after you complete the associated trial?

Hi folks,
In the Tian Xia World Guide book there's a lot of fun and interesting rituals in the Trials. But as my friends and I were reading through, we couldn't quite understand if the anathemas remain once you've 'finished' the trial and got the full brunt of the ritual's benefits.
Every one of these trials have a clause:
Doing XYZ is anathema to this ritual and immediately ends its benefits. If the ritual is ended in this way, you must conduct an atone ritual before attempting this ritual.
In short, the idea we came away from is: Conduct Ritual and roll your checks -> Outcome depends on your rolls -> Do the Trial Listed to get the full benefits. Throughout that process, you must avoid your anathema.
So does the ritual 'end in this way' imply that the ritual ends when you complete the trial of the ritual? I.e. the success of the Unseeing Blade Master:
"You call a blessing into your sword to guide you on the path and are bound by the ritual’s anathema. Once you’ve used that sword against 20 enemies, each significant enough to grant XP, you gain the Blind-Fight feat (Player Core 145)."
So does this mean you can take off your blindness and have blind-fight permanently? Or do you still have to contend with your anathema to maintain it? This is exacerbated with the Seed of Mercy ritual:
"The sprout withers if you don’t personally water it with at least 1 Bulk of pure spring water a day or if it’s left unattended in dangerous circumstances. It’s anathema to this ritual to let the sprout wither, and doing so immediately ends its benefits. If the ritual is ended in this way, you must conduct an atone ritual before attempting this ritual again."
But in the success of this ritual it says:
"Success You nurse the bird to health. It returns to you with a seed that, when planted and watered, grows into a sprout with a single flower. Once you’ve cared for it for a week, you gain the Toughness feat (Player Core 263). If you lose Toughness due to violating the ritual’s anathema, you lose a number of Hit Points equal to the decrease in your maximum Hit Points."
The main reason why this is so weird is pondering about the example provided for anathema in Perfection of Essence ritual:
Anathema for this ritual is determined at the time of the ritual. You choose 1 anathema, and the GM chooses 2 anathema. You’re aware of all of your anathema. Appropriate anathema might include avoiding physical contact with a certain creature or substance (such as members of your bloodline or jade), eating certain foods (such as meat or grains), or wearing certain items or materials (such as silk or cotton).
For a ritual where you have to then survive 1 day of a poison once the ritual 'completes' and you do your rolls to get the benefits of immortality. Why would the example be something like 'don't eat certain foods' or 'don't touch jade' when that is something very achievable and easy to do? At first, I thought this would be a scenario where you have a permanent 'achilles heel', which is incredibly cool thematically.
What are people's thoughts on this? Thanks!
