2024.05.14 23:37 Arbrand The Peach Factory

Living in a small southern town, you get used to the way things are. I grew up as a military brat, so my childhood memories are a blur of packing, unpacking, and getting settled. It had been seven years since we arrived, and nothing but the grace of God would make me move again. A few years ago, my father got orders to station at a base in the middle of the Mohave. I was only seventeen then, but after a few dozen screaming matches, I decided to strike out on my own a little early. I got a part-time job at the cafe, which was enough to rent a little run-down shack a couple of blocks from downtown. As far as I was concerned, I was living the dream—serving coffee a few hours a week and spending the rest of my time hanging out with friends, listening to music, and drinking.
That particular morning started the same as any other. I woke up around noon with a text from Mark to meet me at the cafe. Took me about two hours to get up and head over. The sun had just begun its descent as I pushed the door to the cafe open, the bell above tinkling softly. The sound bothered me a little bit, but I couldn’t tell why. It seemed to ring a little louder than I was expecting, and gave me this strange drilling sensation inside my head.
I ignored the feeling as the smell of slightly stale coffee and pastries washed over me. I saw Mark and Jamie already sat at our usual spot. Mark looked up as I approached, a grin spreading across his face. "Hey, Alex. Sarah should be here soon."
“So what's on the docket today?” I asked as I sat down, stealing a bear claw off Jamie's plate and taking a large bite before he had the chance to protest.
Mark’s excitement was almost palpable. He was always the one with the big ideas and crazy schemes, which I honestly appreciated. They got us into trouble more often than not, but it beat day drinking in the Walmart parking lot like everyone else our age.
"Alright, check this out," Mark said, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "I was talking to my cousin who works for the county. He told me about this old, abandoned food processing factory just outside of town. They used to can peaches there."
I gave him a skeptical look. "That’s your idea? Old, canned peaches?"
"No, idiot," he scoffed. "They left behind a ton of nitrates and phosphates. I’ve been doing some reading, and we can use them to make fireworks. I was up all night figuring it out and putting these together." He subtly opened his backpack to reveal at least a dozen PVC pipes fitted on both ends.
"Now that's what I’m talking about," I said, grinning.
Sarah walked in, catching the tail end of our conversation. "Sorry I’m late, I had a breakout and had to stop by the pharmacy. Upped my allergy meds. I fucking hate pollen," she said as I scooted over to make room for her on the bench.
"Is there anything you aren't allergic to?" I laughed.
She rolled her eyes, ignoring my question. "So, what's the plan for today?"
Mark, Jamie and I exchanged cheeky glances. "Well," I started, "let’s just hope you’re not allergic to peaches."
We finally managed to pry the side door of the factory off, which broke free from the hinges and smashed against the floor. Stepping inside, the air was thick and rancid as we bounced the beams of our flashlights around the packaging floor.
"We should split up," Mark suggested. "Alex, you and Sarah check out the storage rooms for the chemicals. Jamie and I will find the control room and see if we can get the power back on."
All of us nodded as we went our separate ways. Sarah and I wandered down the dark hallways, kicking open doors and looking for anything that looked vaguely like chemicals. The corridors were dark and damp, with black mold snaking along the walls like veins.
The first few rooms we checked were empty, filled only with dust and the remnants of long-abandoned equipment. Each door creaked as we pushed it open, revealing more decay and desolation.
As we moved further down the hallway, the mold seemed to become more aggressive, spreading in thick, dark patches along the walls and floors. The air grew heavier, making it harder to breathe. We kicked open another door, our flashlights revealing more of the same—nothing useful.
"This place is a bust," Sarah muttered,
"Let's keep looking," I replied, though I was starting to feel the same way. "There has to be something."
We continued down the corridor, our footsteps echoing in the silence. As we approached the end of the hall, something caught my eye. One door stood out, covered in black, creeping mold that seemed to pulse and writhe. Tendrils of fungus snaked out from the edges, reaching out into the hallway.
"Sarah, look at this," I said.
She turned to see what I was pointing at and her eyes widened. "That’s... different."
We approached the door cautiously as the tendrils moved and swayed.
With a deep breath, we each grabbed one side of the door and pulled. It resisted for a moment before giving way, the mold snapping and tearing as we forced it open. The smell that hit us was overpowering, a mix of rot and decay that made my eyes water.
Inside, our flashlights revealed a horrifying sight. At the back of the room sat several pallets with dozens of boxes of peaches each. But it was what grew from these boxes that will haunt my nightmares till my dying day.
The entire back wall was consumed by a towering fungal mass. Thick, fleshy stalks jutted out from the base, climbing nearly to the ceiling. The surface of the fungus glistened with a slimy, wet sheen, appearing almost like rotting flesh under our flashlight beams. Each stalk was covered in a mottled, sickly green and yellow hue, with patches of black mold that seemed to pulse in the dim light.
Interwoven within this horrific sight were bulbous growths, each one throbbing rhythmically, as if with a heartbeat of its own. They resembled obscene, overgrown tumors, ready to burst at the slightest touch. Long, sinewy tendrils extended from the main mass, creeping over the boxes and along the floor like the fingers of some malevolent creature, seeking out any life to ensnare.
The tendrils near the door twitched, slowly inching their way toward us as if aware of our presence. The air was thick with spores, glimmering in the light like tiny stars, each one a potential harbinger of decay and death.
"Oh my god," Sarah whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of our own breathing. "What is that thing?"
We stood there, frozen in shock and disgust, before I slammed the door shut.
"Let's get the hell out of here," I said.
We hurried back down the corridor, our footsteps echoing in the oppressive silence. The lights in the facility flickered on, casting a blinding white light. I heard a bubbling, groaning noise emanate from behind the fungal door, sending a wave of nausea through my body.
We met back up with Mark and Jamie in the main area and quickly told them what we saw.
"Yo, that sounds sick," Jamie exclaimed. "We should blow it up. I found the chemicals in the control room and these bad boys are ready to go," he said, holding up a pipe bomb.
"Yeah," Mark agreed, his eyes alight with excitement. "We'd be doing the world a favor, getting rid of that thing."
Sarah shook her head, her face pale. "No way. I'm not doing this. That thing... It's not normal. We need to get out of here and call someone who knows what they're doing."
Jamie frowned. "Come on, Sarah. Don't be a buzzkill. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to do something epic."
"Epic?" Sarah snapped. "That thing is dangerous. We don't know what we're dealing with. I'm not risking my life for some stupid joke."
Mark stepped in with a grin. "Alright, let's all calm down. If you’re scared you can just let the men handle it.”
Sarah crossed her arms. "Fine, but I'm staying here."
"Suit yourself," Jamie said, shrugging. "But we're not leaving without taking care of that thing."
"Alright, let's do this," Mark said, looking at Jamie and me. "We'll be quick. Sarah, stay here and keep an eye out.”
The hallway looked completely different in the fluorescent lighting. I could see now that each vein of fungus emanated from that single door, like a spiral portal threatening to suck us in.
"Let's make this quick," I whispered, glancing back at Jamie and Mark. "We light the bomb, throw it in, and get the hell out of here."
Jamie nodded, holding the pipe bomb tightly in his hand. "Ready when you are."
We reached the door, and the tendrils of fungus seemed even more aggressive, writhing and pulsing as if aware of our presence. The air was thick with spores.
"On three," I whispered, gripping the edge of the door. "One... two... three."
We yanked the door open, the mold snapping and tearing as it gave way. The smell of rot and decay hit us again, making my eyes water. The monstrous fungal mass loomed before us, its bulbous growths throbbing rhythmically.
Jamie lit the fuse and threw the bomb as hard as he could inside. It struck one of the orbs, which burst, shooting a fine white mist into the air.
"Run!" I shouted, slamming the door shut. We turned and sprinted down the hallway. The explosion sounded behind us, the shockwave lifting me off my feet and sending me tumbling to the ground.
Living in a small southern town, you get used to the way things are. My parents were in the army, so we moved a lot, but now I'm staying put. I woke up around noon and got a text from Mark to meet at the cafe. The smell of slightly stale coffee and pastries greeted me as I arrived. The bell's ring seemed off, giving me a small headache.
I ignored it and slid into the seat across from Mark and Jamie. “So what's on the docket today?” I asked, stealing a doughnut off Jamie's plate.
“Going to go to an old peach factory and get some chemicals. I need to make some fireworks,” Mark replied, subtly revealing some pipe bombs in his bag.
Sarah walked in towards the tail end of our conversation and silently stood next to our table.
The three of us glanced at each other, unsure of how to proceed. “Sarah,” I finally started. “Are you ok?”
“Y-yeah,” she replied. “Are YOU guys feeling ok?”
We exchanged uneasy glances. “Yeah, we’re fine,” I said. After a moment, she shook her head and sat down as we continued our plans.
That evening, we broke into the peach factory. We found this disgusting, gigantic fungal growth coming out of some boxes of peaches and we blew it up with some pipe bombs.
The next day I woke up around noon and got a text from Mark to meet at the cafe. The smell of slightly stale coffee and pastries greeted me as I arrived. The bell's ring seemed off, giving me a small migraine.

“What's going on?” she asked, tears welling up in her eyes. “I’m scared.”
We exchanged uneasy glances. “It’s fine, Sarah. Just take a seat,” I said.
The bell's ring seemed off, giving me a splitting migraine.
As I slid into the seat across from Mark and Jamie, I noticed Sarah outside, fixated on a bird suspended in mid-flight. I went out to see her.
"Are you seeing this?" she asked, her voice tinged with astonishment.
"Yeah," I replied nonchalantly. "That happens all the time. Are you sure you're feeling okay?"
"What the hell do you mean, 'Am I feeling okay?'!" she screamed. "That bird is frozen mid-air, and you don't think anything weird is going on?"
Her yelling took me aback. I didn't understand her alarm, so I shrugged it off and joined Mark inside. As we began planning our nightly excursion to the peach factory, Sarah burst through the door, screaming, then vanished in a puff of smoke.
"That's odd," I mused, my brow furrowed in confusion before we shrugged it off and resumed our scheming.
The day after, I met Mark again at the cafe. This rhythm had become our existence: meetings by day, adventures by night at the old peach plant. That evening followed the familiar pattern; we reveled in the thrill of hurling pipe bombs into that small enclosed room.
This routine had completely engulfed our lives. Day after day at the cafe, night after night at the factory—it seemed as though this cycle was all we had ever known. Reflecting on it, I couldn't remember any other way of life.
However, one thing increasingly disturbed me—the ringing of the doorbell at the cafe's entrance. Each time I entered, the sound seemed sharper, more grating. Focusing on it brought a searing pain to my head, like a needle drilling through my skull. Yet, despite the agony, I found myself obsessing over it, the sound gnawing at the edges of my sanity.
One day, driven to the brink by this incessant ringing, I decided to confront it head-on. I stood by the door, letting the bell chime repeatedly. Each ring sliced through my mind, but I persisted, sweat beading on my forehead, teeth clenched in torment.
As the pain crescendoed, reality shattered. I woke to the blaring of a fire alarm, not the quaint doorbell I had imagined. The cafe was engulfed in chaos. The hallway was consumed by a sprawling fungal mass, its tendrils creeping along the walls.
In the dim, flickering light, I saw Jamie, or what was left of him. Half of his skull was missing, the fungus attached grotesquely to his exposed brain, pulsating with each eerie beat of his fading heart. Mark was there too, seemingly unharmed physically, but trapped in a delusion, his eyes glazed over, a smile playing on his lips as the fungus encased him.
Sarah lay collapsed by the fire alarm, her hand still on the lever. She had managed to pull it before succumbing to the spores that now clung to her body.
The tendrils that had enveloped me snapped violently, each break releasing a sickening crack that echoed through the eerie silence of the hallway. An outline of my body remained imprinted in the fungal mass, a mold from which I had desperately broken free.
Gritting my teeth against the pain and horror, I scrambled to Mark and Sarah. Mark was less entangled, lost in his fungal-induced stupor. I grabbed him under the arms, his body limp but alive, and dragged him across the floor. The fungus resisted, stretching like sinew before tearing away from him with wet, ripping sounds.
Sarah was heavier, her body weakened but still fighting. I clasped her wrists, pulling with all my strength. The fungus clung to her, tendrils winding up her arms like ivy. With a final, determined yank, the last of the tendrils snapped, freeing her. We left behind fragments of the monstrous growth clinging to her clothes.
Together, we staggered out into the night air, away from the suffocating enclosure. The cool air hit our faces, harsh yet cleansing. Behind us, the fire alarm continued to blare into the night. I fumbled with my phone, hands shaking, to dial the emergency number. The call went through, and within minutes, the sound of sirens cut through the stillness of the night, growing louder as help approached.
The next few days were a blur. I remember fading in and out of consciousness as nurses pumped antifungals directly into my IV, their faces blurring into the sterile environment. Once we were somewhat cognizant, the police wanted answers. One by one, we were interviewed, but we gave them nothing. I still don’t know what the exact penalty is for manufacturing explosives and using them to destroy a building, but I’m guessing it’s not community service. Jamie was still missing, and they hadn’t found any sign of him or his body. I tried to hide my tears as I knew he was already long gone.
After a few weeks, I was finally cleared for visitors and got to see Sarah again. She told me that after the explosion, she ran but couldn’t leave us behind. She came back, only to see us being consumed by the fungus. Try as she might, she wasn’t able to free us as she felt the oppressive spores take her under. She fought back and managed to pull the fire alarm before succumbing again. The doctors told her that her allergy medication gave her some resistance to the fungus; otherwise, she might have been a goner.
Mark was never the same. We never talked about what happened, and after trying once and him flipping out, I figured it was best to let sleeping dogs lie. That summer, he moved to upstate New York to work in his dad’s business. I haven’t seen him since. That fall, Sarah started college at Savannah State. I still call her every now and again, but it’s not like it used to be.
Despite all that happened, I’m not moving again. I’m happy here, and if it’s up to me, I’ll die in this little town. I still work at the cafe, as a manager now. On weekends, I come in and just sit at the booth we all used to share.
I still think about Jamie from time to time. I wonder if he's dead or still stuck in his delusion, picturing the four of us sitting at our table, talking, laughing, and passing the time. Sometimes, when the cafe is empty and the light is just right, I can almost see him there, his smile frozen in that moment before everything went wrong.
The cafe grows quieter each day, the hum of life fading into an eerie stillness. My skin feels different, as if the air itself whispers secrets I can't quite grasp. The itching that started as a minor annoyance has intensified, becoming a constant torment. I scratch at lesions that have begun to form on my arms and chest, red and raw, with patches of green spreading beneath the surface. I’ve started to wear long sleeves to cover my arms and a mask to hide my purpling lips.
Some nights, when closing, as I sit alone in the dim light of the cafe, the itching becomes unbearable. I claw at the lesions, feeling a dampness beneath my skin. Sometimes, when I cough, I could swear I see tiny spores hanging in the air, reminiscent of the bursting nodules growing on the stalks of the monster.
Occasionally, I hear the bell ring and the door open, but no one is there. I look outside into the empty night and see nothing. This went on for weeks, becoming more frequent. But one night, the door opened, and I saw Jamie standing there, the picture of health. I went to embrace him and noticed my lesions were gone too. It was almost as if we had never gone to the peach factory. It was suddenly morning, and the light shone through the cafe. For the first time in forever, we were happy. We talked about nothing, passing the time.
After what felt like hours, he told me it was time to go. But his mouth wasn’t moving—I felt like I could read his thoughts, and he could read mine. We stood up as I took one last look at the cafe and headed off with him, back to the peach factory.
As we walked, a strange calmness settled over me. I remember feeling that I wanted to ask if he had talked to Mark or Sarah, and wondered how they were doing. But deep down, somehow, I could feel their presence and I knew they were doing just fine. The sun was bright, the air crisp. The itching had vanished completely, replaced by an inexplicable craving for the sweetness of ripe peaches. Jamie and I shared a silent understanding, a bond deeper than any words could convey.
The factory loomed ahead, its doors wide open as if inviting us in. The familiar scent of peaches and something else—something earthy and ancient—filled the air. We stepped inside, side by side, feeling at home for the first time in ages.
The last thing I remember before the darkness took over was the feeling of the soft, warm peach flesh in my hand, and Jamie’s voice in my head saying, "Welcome home."

2024.05.14 23:32 Adventurous-Title394 my dog is balding

i have a 1.5 year old half pit bull half cane corso and he’s healthy and happy but his skin is so bad. His lower back and tail and knees (even his balls 😔) are almost fully bald and he’s not like gooey and nasty but he’s very dry and he like eats away at his knees a lot and now he has a bald spot on his knee. Since he was a puppy he’s always had like dandruff ? and i used to feed him the orijen puppy formula and then i started buying him the orijen salmon/ocean one but i feel like his skin started getting worse w that one so i went back to puppy and it just wasn’t helping at all so i started buying the rachel ray beef formula and putting salmon oil on it and his skin was fine like his hair wasn’t fully back but he wasn’t getting worse but since the weather changed it’s been AWFUL like his tail is almost fully bald and he just scratches himself all the time. he doesn’t have fleas or mange or ringworm, he’s been tested for mange twice and ringworm once and my vet still can’t tell me what’s wrong with him. I have another dog as well and she’s a long haired dog and she’s fine she doesn’t scratch herself and she isn’t balding and they play together all day everyday so i’m just confused and need help thank you

TW for wound. Sharing here to hopefully spread awareness. My beautiful, perfect best friend was diagnosed with FISS last year.
FISS is an injection site sarcoma, lil got hers from a routine vaccination. It's uncommon but it can happen.
For this reason, a lot of vets have been advised for years to inject at the leg or tail (as these can be amputated if a sarcoma does develop).
Unfortunately, I didn't know this. I do now.
Last year, I noticed a lump on her neck/shoulder area. It was small, about a pound coin size.
Since then it grew very quickly. Never caused her pain, she still loved her favourite scritches (which were unfortunately in that area).
A while ago, it broke the skin and ulcerated.
We got her antibiotics, painkillers, gabapentin.
The antibiotics cleared it for a while, but obviously it's a stop gap in palliative care.
Now the wound is about 2cm², and actively weeps. She still eats, drinks, acts the same as usual.
She has lost a lot of fur under her neck/chin.
I know it won't be long now before her final vet trip. My heart breaks.
She is still happy, albeit sleepy on meds. She still wants sweeties, cuddles, and tuna.
She lets me clean her wounds and dress them.
But this should never have happened.
Please, please read this.
Think of lily.
Do not allow your friends to be injected at the neck.

2024.05.14 23:30 LionOJudah My Flavor Collection and Ratings

As of right now, I have 14 normal tubs, 1 mini tub, and have tried several other flavors not in my current collection. I will try to list and rate them based on my taste. I'm curious to hear how others feel about these flavors. Here we go!
Loveberry Slushie (Neopets Raspberry Lemonade) Mini Tub. This one was pretty good. Basically just as the name states, it's raspberry lemonade..nothing too fancy. I do wish it was a little more lemony, I like my lemonade more tart, but it's still good. I only have 1-2 servings left out of the 15 serving tub. I give this one 7.5/10
Unicorn Sunshine (Rainbow Stripe Gum) This one brings back some memories for me. The rainbow stripe (or fruit stripe gum) flavor reminds me of the multiflavored gum, but unlike the gum, the flavor profile lasts longer. However it is more on the sweet side than I enjoy, but it's still good. I have maybe 1/2 the tub left. 6/10.
Red Ooze (Sour Cherry) I love the sour flavors, and I love cherry. This one was a winner for me for quite a while, until the powder coagulated into a solid mass and I had to break it apart. Based on reviews and research, that was a problem with this particular flavor, and while it doesn't ruin the flavor, it's harder to get a drink ready because it's like pieces of gravel. It isn't that it's gone bad or anything, just something with the dye used caused it to clump. Would be 9/10 if it weren't for the clumping issue, but this one is a 7/10.
Orange Vibe (orange Creamsicle) This one was a huge disappointment to me. Every time I've made it, 1 scoop for 16oz of water, it's tasted like a melted, watered down orange creamsicle. The flavor isn't strong so it again tastes super diluted and watered down, and I really don't enjoy it. It's much lower ranked than I would have liked at a 5/10.
Kamehameha. I have no idea what this flavor is, only that it was way sweeter than I hoped or wanted. It's a Dragonball Z skin, which is cool I guess, (never watched the show). I don't have much to say on this since out of my 40 serving tub, I've only had one or two servings and wasn't a fan. 4/10
Wyld Stallyns (Bahama Mama) Bill and Ted reskin of Bahama Mama which is most excellent. This flavor is fun and makes me feel like I'm at the beach. I love the tropical flavors, even if it's a little sweeter than I prefer. The Bill and Ted reskin is what made me go with this, and I got this a a collector's box which was super awesome. 9/10
Blue Bomber Slushee (Vanilla Blue Raspberry) This is the only tub I have that I have not opened yet. I have a feeling it will be good, but since I haven't opened it yet, I can't say anything or rank this one. Maybe I should check it out sometime.
Tawny Owl Potion (Black Currant) Ok, this one I waited a LONG time for the Witcher Collectors Box and I was NOT disappointed. This one is super dark, tangy, and incredible. The flavor is exactly on point for what I look for and love, sour, fruity, berryish. 10/10 Plus the collection box itself was 15/10
Caramel Apple This one is one again I was super excited for and when I tried it I was super disappointed. I don't know if it was the mix I got, but it was too much caramel, not enough green apple. I was really hoping for more tangy green apple as that's what I remember of the lollipops that this flavor was made to mimic. Alas, more caramel, and a little too sweet. PS..GFUEL doesn't do artificial caramel flavor well. 4/10.
Iskreem (Sour Strawberry Cotton Candy) This is another one I was super excited about. It's a Twisted Metal skin, which is awesome for me, one of my favorite game franchises. The first time I tried it, it was a little too...perfumy? sweet? it was too something I didn't like, but I keep trying it and it's easily in my top 3 flavors now. The strawberry and cotton candy are an unusual combination of flavors, but it works. 10/10
Rainbow Sherbet. This is one of my earliest flavors of GFuel I bought and tried. Really a classic. Only reason I haven't finished the tub is there are flavors I enjoy more. I'll give this one a 7.5/10
Peach Rings. This sonic Peach rings reminds me so much of a candy I love. This one is a little sweeter than I like, and has an odd aftertaste, but it's still pretty good. Tastes just like the candy which is nice. 7/10
Nuka Cola Quantum. This one really surprised me. I mean I knew from the description on the website it wasn't cola flavored, but the flavor profile is extremely delightful to me. It's not sour, but the tropical flavors of this, along with the color make it one of my favorites. This one gets a 9/10.
Black Ice (Blackberry Pear Vanilla) This is another one I was pleasantly surprised with. The flavor combination intrigued me, and while I'm not typically a fan of pear flavors, this one did well. A little sweeter than I prefer, but still pretty good. 8/10
Uncharted Fortune Blend (Pina Colada) This one I was excited for, and finally opened today, and was disappointed. This one is super sweet, and more perfume flavored than pina colada flavored. I will still drink this one because it's not terrible, but it's a little sweeter than I prefer. 7/10
Flavors I no longer have but have had/tried:
Peach Cobbler. NO... just...no. Tried this both with water and milk, and all I got was allspice flavor...after 2 servings I threw it away. However this one was NOT the worst one I tried, but I was extremely disappointed in it. 2/10
Classified Flavor...this is by far the worst flavor I've ever tasted. I had 1 serving of the tub and threw it away... Was some weird mixture of watermelon and mint? I got this and the Peach cobbler as a BOGO and can say it was the only GFuel order I regret. 0/10 on this flavor.
ClickBait. (Cherry Pomegranate) I had this as a neopets skin (Can't remember which one) but I loved it. Was one of my favorite flavors. I need to order this one again as the Neopets tubs were mini-tubs. 9/10
Ragin' Gummy Fish... this flavor is ok. Swedish fish in a drink basically. Too sweet for my taste. Only ever had this in single serve pouches. 5/10
Sour Blue Chug Rug. This one I've only ever had in the individual serving pouches, but it's pretty good. Cherry is still better but this one is sour, which I like. 7/10
What flavors that I have not tried should I be looking at? My flavor profile is sour, fruity, citris/tropical.

2024.05.14 23:25 Korreom Help Needed! American Bullfrog Tadpole

Hello everybody! I have an American Bullfrog tadpole I am caring for. It is starting to grow its hind legs, and I've been caring for it for about a week and a half. Due to the circumstances when I decided to care for it, I was not able to set up a cycled tank nor keep the water it was in which I think added a lot of stress to the tad. I've been trying to slowly cycle water out, added leaves for tannins, and a sponge filter to keep the water oxygenated while the leaves decompose. Recently, it has been getting a large red lesion on its side. On its other side there is a white blotch (not fuzzy) that is just now starting to look like there's redness or a sore starting in the center. I think he has also lost a lot of weight since I've taken him in. Even though there's lots of cover in the tank, he often swims for short bursts very frantically. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I need help. I don't know if it's ammonium burn but any advice would be helpful. I can post pictures too as well if needed.

2024.05.14 23:23 a_g_a_y School sport day bad and unsafe.

My school had sports day today and it was just so bad. First off all the girls were banned from wearing leggings and shorts but when we all wore in legging instead of our pe bottoms we got detention. Funny thing is that the principle is the only one who has a problem with it. And Like 3 people got sent in ambulances to hostipel. First person was a 1st Yr who did something to his ankle or leg which lead to him being carried to a car to be taken back to school grounds from soccer pitch and 1 hour later being taken out on a stretched passed out looking VERY pale to an ambulance. The second one was a girl in 2nd year who was on a bouncy castle and a ton of lads started jumping on her back until they heard a crack. She ended up having to be lifted out of the bouncy castle with lots of struggle as she was paralysed in her spot due to her back and she broke her back or did something to her spine but it caused her not to be able to move at all. I forgot what happend with the third one but it's stupid because where tf Is the staff that makes sure this doesn't happen???

2024.05.14 23:22 madhousechild What computer codes would you expect if an engine needs replacing?

TL;DR: My car overheated in the desert and a AAA-affiliate shop says the engine should be replaced at great cost, and provided a P0117 code and low compression numbers for my cylinders in the diagnosis. While I'm sure that P0117 would be expected, I can't believe that it would be the only one if the engine is blown. I'm pretty sure I'm being scammed.
Back-story: I was driving my 2002 Honda Civic EX with just 119,000 miles 75-80mph until it slowed a bit and would not accelerate. Nearby driver shouted that it was smoking. I pulled over. There was indeed smoke but not a huge cloud and it smelled like oil burning. I had my oil changed the day before. There had been no indication of trouble, the temp indicator was not high and I had been checking because I was in the desert, midday. I had briefly turned on the AC but it had been off for a while because I'm paranoid about overheating. I called AAA and after a long wait I was towed to a AAA-affiliated shop in a small city nearly 200 miles from home. During the wait for the tow after letting it cool for maybe a half-hour, it wouldn't start.
The shop charged $160 for a diagnosis, which they said was catastrophic. They said the radiator had been leaking and there was no coolant, which caused the engine to basically fry. I would need a complete new engine and I got the estimate down to about $6200.
At first I rejected the idea of replacing the engine. However, I was stuck and it seemed my only option since I am not earning a lot right now to get a new car. I left it there with the plan to arrange the financing of this bill and then they would order the enginer and it would take about a week to be done. I took a 7-hour Greyhound bus ride home. But since returning home, I began questioning.
I read the docs they provided and it said the diagnosis ran the computer codes but didn't list them. I messaged to request them and he said it was on the repair order. I checked again, it's not there. He emailed me the repair order with the same ID and timestamp but it had been altered with the addition of the code and some other stuff like my email address that I had just given him.
I reiterated that the code was not on my printout and provided photo of it next to the screen of the emailed repair order and he replied in all caps 'IT IS ON ALL VERSION IN THE SAME SPOT.' Clearly, it's not on my printout though. Red flag.
I assumed that a blown engine would generate a list of codes. The only code is P0117, which relates to the temperature sensor. He also provided in the printout these compression numbers: Cyl 1: 55, Cyl 2: 30, Cyl 3: 50, Cyl 4: 80. He had said they should be at about 200.
I now wonder about the radiator leak because I hadn't seen leaks in my parking space, and they may have checked coolant during the oil change (not sure). The shop had gotten it to start, which also makes me wonder if it's really in that bad of condition.
I had trusted this place as a AAA shop but checked the reviews on Google. The average rating is over 4 stars but there are plenty of 1-star "ripoff" reviews. I am now arranging my friend with a GMC pickup to drive up there and tow it back, and not let him know until we get there because now I don't trust them at all. I'll just keep stalling.
Does one P0117 code seem strange? My local mechanic says the alteration of the repair order alone is sketchy.

2024.05.14 23:20 PendriveNova What are your top recommendations for calming a fussy or colicky baby? Any tried-and-true techniques or remedies that worked well for you?

Calming a fussy or colicky baby can be challenging, but here are some tried-and-true techniques and remedies that have worked well for many parents:
  1. Swaddling: Swaddling can provide a sense of security and mimic the snug feeling of the womb. Wrap your baby gently in a lightweight, breathable blanket, ensuring their hips and legs have room to move.
  2. Gentle rocking or motion: Many babies find comfort in gentle rocking or rhythmic motion. You can try rocking them in your arms, using a rocking chair or glider, or even going for a calming stroll in a stroller or baby carrier.
  3. White noise or soothing sounds: Background noise can help soothe a fussy baby. Consider using a white noise machine, playing soft music, or creating a calming environment with sounds like rainfall or ocean waves.
  4. Comforting touch: Gentle touch and skin-to-skin contact can be incredibly soothing for a baby. Try holding your baby close, providing gentle massages, or using techniques like infant massage to promote relaxation.
  5. Calming bath: A warm bath can help relax your baby's muscles and provide a soothing experience. Use warm water, mild baby-friendly products, and make it a calm and enjoyable time for your little one.
  6. Changing positions: Experiment with different holding positions or carrying techniques to find what works best for your baby. Some babies find relief in an upright position, while others prefer being held close or in different arms.
  7. Pacifiers: Offering a pacifier to suck on can provide comfort and help soothe a fussy baby. It can provide a calming effect and satisfy the natural sucking reflex.
  8. Burping and gas relief: Fussiness can sometimes be caused by trapped gas or indigestion. Take breaks during feedings to burp your baby and try gentle tummy massages or using gas relief techniques recommended by your pediatrician.
  9. Dim lighting and quiet environment: Creating a calm and peaceful environment can help soothe a fussy baby. Dim the lights, reduce noise levels, and minimize external stimuli to create a serene atmosphere.
  10. Seek support: Don't hesitate to reach out to healthcare professionals, support groups, or experienced parents for guidance and reassurance. They can provide valuable advice and support during this challenging time.
Remember, each baby is unique, so it may take some trial and error to find the techniques that work best for your little one. Trust your instincts as a parent and be patient and loving in your approach to calming your baby.

2024.05.14 23:20 GladiusNocturno A thank you. To r/RWBY, CRWBY, and RWBY as a whole.

A thank you. To RWBY, CRWBY, and RWBY as a whole.

Oh, Hello there. I didn't hear you come in.
I was just sitting here, partaking in some light reading. Remanecing on the past 11 years of RWBY. Sips loudly.
11 years. You know, it's funny, when you put it in perspective, this show has been a significant chunk of my life.
Here is a bit of my history with RWBY.
Ah yes. It seems like it was yesterday...
The year was 2006. I was starting seventh grade. My legs were hairless and my voice was way higher pitch. My friends and I all met at my house to do a school team project, so naturally we immediately started watching tv.
The first channel that came up was the Discovery Channel, home to marvelous pieces of art such as Mythbusters, and Sharkweek, and that fucking documentary that made me think dragons were a real thing, you know the one. However, on that day they were showing a special show about the world of the internet industry, and on a segment, they interviewed these group of odd looking fellows, named Gustavo Sorola, Geoff Lazer Ramsay, and Michael "Burnie" Burnes. I didn't know who they were, I didn't care much either because they weren't the Mythbusters....and then a friend of mine said "Oh, hey. Those are the guys that make that funny Halo show. You wanna watch it?".
That's how I discovered Rooster Teeth. Being a bunch of 12 year olds from Venezuela, we barely know how to say "hello" and "chicken" in English. But fortunately, we had the blood of the Caribbean salty sea dogs in our veins! And my buddy pulled a youtube channel that had fan Spanish subs for Red vs Blue. We spent hours and hours watching the Blood Gulch Chronicles, laughing our asses off, learning the dialogues, recreating the scenes. Until eventually, the Blood Gulch Chronicles ended...and we all moved on.
My friends lost interest after that, but I really loved it and found out that more was being made. Unfortunatly, the...Yarrtube channel where we watched it only had Blood Gulch. So, what to do? I guess it was back to watching Huevo Cartoon (if you know, you know)...No....No! I was not going to throw the towel! I needed more of my Halo youtube videos and by God I was going to get them!
Wanting to watch Red vs Blue was one of my primary motivations for studying English. I had been learning the language since I was way younger but it wasn't until then that I started putting my effort into it. I wanted two things, I wanted to beat Ocarina of Time without guides and actually understand the story, and I wanted continue watching Red vs Blue. So, I did. Rooster Teeth became my main source of exposure to the English language and my main tool for practicing my listening comprehension. That is something that I will always be thankful to Rooster Teeth for. I a sense, I owe RT for helping me develop a skill that has opened so many opportunities and the world to me.
But enough about that. I want to talk about YOU.
Yes. YOU!
I've been watching RWBY since the Red trailer came out. But I only really started engaging with the community during the premier of Volume 5. From then on, RWBY has become my main community. It has brought me laughter, sadness, rage, joy, it has expanded my perspectives, it has taught me how to be a person, a better man. It has made me more thoughtful, it has made me more mature, it has more more immature. It helped me feel less lonely at times as well.
I have a lot to thank RWBY as a show and RWBY as a community.
I have a lot of appreciation for all of you. The regulars, the new commers, the lurkers, the ones that make me want to choke you, the mods, the sexy mods, the fanartists, the fanfic writers, the smut writers, the smut fanartists, the meme makers, the discussion havers, the theory crafters, my boys and girls of the Latin American RWBY community (El que lo lea es un pendejo pero es MI pendejo).
We have seen a lot. We have seen a lot of good, we have seen a lot of fun, we have seen a lot of anger, a lot of nastiness, a lot of flat Weisses, Yorses, Blake's harems, Jaune's harems, Ruby's harems, Nora's pancakes, Ren's broken pelvices, and Oscar's mid life crisis.
We don't know what the future holds. I mean, we literally know nothing. We have the faint hope of good news soon. But that's not what I wanted to focus on. I wanted to focus on the past and the present. On the good and the bad times. On the friends and memories we built as a community. Nothing lasts forever, but memories enrich our lives and shape who we are now.
That's why I wanted to do this little face reveal. I wanted to celebrate a big part of my life. I wanted to celebrate you. The community. And le you know how happy I am that you are a part of my life.
I started watching Rooster Teeth content since I was 12 years old. It taught me a lot, it helped me grow, it helped me when I needed it, it brought me joy. I am now a 29 year old man, married to the most beautiful and amazing woman in the world.
Even if the show doesn't go on, I know we all will. I know CRWBY will go on to do amazing things and so will every single one of you.
So, Thank you. Thank you RWBY, thank you RWBY community. Thank you Kerry, Eddy, Miles, Kiersi, Linsay, Kara, Arry, Barbara, Samantha, Neath, Aaron, Jen, Monty, and all of CRWBY.
Thank you, for all fo the great memories.
So, Keep Moving Foward......And remember.....
All Grimm are naked..Think about it!!

2024.05.14 23:15 0TheLususNaturae0 This is gonna be hard

Hey. To begin just want say, I'm 26 turning 27 by end of the month. So can imagine me saying I watched Red vs Blue for so long. Clearly didn't watch when I was 7 but pretty close to it and Roosterteeth felt like the biggest part of my life. It's been almost my entire life.
I been through so much pain from my father, school, loss, feeling of not belonging. But all that time Roosterteeth help make it easier. Red vs blue, Achievement hunter, RWBY, Camp camp, On the spot. Even shows like Nomad of Nowhere brought good moments that made all those times easier. I met girl of my life through RWBY and in 2019 I been to my first, sadly last, RTX and it was in those three days I felt like I was around people who were much like me.
Roosterteeth is such a big pop culture icon that it changed what it meant being content creators even in the beginning. That people could do so much if they have hope that they can create something wonderful. We are example of that. Mean while Roosterteeth is sadly getting broken down by one lesser movie companies we as fans are rushing to preserve what we fear to lose because we care too much to let it go quietly in darkness.
I hope to being content creator and with so many lost in Youtube community I can only thank them for what has been given. That the path has been paved and hope to do something that we love and to inspire others can carry on. Roosterteeth may be killed by Warner bros (same people that killed Venture Bros and in someway DC movies) but the dream will always keep going.
Whatever happens tomorrow I only hope the community prevails and Roosterteeth crew finds ways to keep going. But for now, I'm gonna continue my binge watching on the shows I love of Roosterteeth. Currently on Immersion.

2024.05.14 23:13 page999 attempt at drawing my oc

attempt at drawing my oc
forgive my drawing and laziness with the outlines. i’m no artist, but i like to create characters and thought this would be fun.
this is vance, a narcissistic model. he was born to a cold mother and abusive father in england 2008, and died a year ago aged 15 after being stabbed 19 times to death by a classmate. finding himself in hell, he’d been thoroughly lost and distressed, until valentino unfortunately found him and offered him a home. unknowing of his nature, vance had accepted and signed a contract agreeing to model for velvette and, when he came of age, act in valentino’s porn films for a period of 3 years. already not particularly enjoying the suggestive poses struck during shoots, he isn’t looking forward to turning eighteen. he likes to pretend that he enjoys being in hell, but in reality he doesn’t see himself as a sinner and desperately wants to get to heaven.
vance is undeniably, and to his absolute joy, very attractive (i know the drawing doesn’t convey any of this), his face a blend of uncommon features which, when put together, produce a breathtakingly beautiful result. he has deep black pits for eyes and glossy hair, which was a shiny shade of chasmic carmine red, razor-straight and falling to his shoulders where the ends bounce and curl stylishly. his body is a pale green, smooth skin stretch over and elegant bones. the sole things he detests about his appearance are the remnants of his stab wounds, thin white lines meshed across his abdomen. they sicken him, and he does all that he can to ignore them. he wears whatever he can dig out of velvette’s piles of old collections, but is particularly fond of waistcoats and short, swishy skirts. he’s also a passionate turtleneck enthusiast, for reasons unknown. to the exceptional frustration of hell’s biggest modelling agencies whose contracts he ignores, and to the delight of velvette’s, everything looks good on vance (i know that i didn’t depict this in the drawing, just imagine he looks good!). he frequents magazine covers featuring ‘hell’s hottest’, found posing provocatively, skin showing with a signature smirk.
i’m not familiar with this sub, and these paragraphs are all bits copied and pasted from my literary archives (my notes app), so the order may be a little jumbled or tenses mixed up. not sure if i was supposed to include other information, idk. hope u like vance :)

2024.05.14 23:10 rmg241 QoL improvements for build diversity I would like to see.

I know the devs have a billion things they are working on that are more important than this, but these are some changes I would like to see brought to the game to promote build diversity.

Armor perk with fire resistance – This would be a QoL benefit for those that really want to run pyro builds or those of us that are tired of dying to fire. Currently the pyro build fantasy of marching forward burning everything in site is hampered by the fact that you can’t march forward without dying to your own fire. Yes, it is realistic, but it is not fun, the flamethrower is already balanced by its pretty short range with this armor perk they can live that fantasy. As a added bonus some of us may actually go back to the fire tornado planets if we had this armor perk

Armor perk that allows the reloading of any support weapons on the move – Some support weapons can already be reloaded on the move, but quite a few can’t. Having a perk like this on armor would make those support stratagems that can’t be reloaded on the move more appealing. I do not think this would be too strong as you are giving up other armor perks for this one and it only benefits some support weapons.

Make Chargers have a frontal weak spot or make the leg armor breakable with medium pen weapons – This change alone would promote build diversity on the bug side. This opens up more support weapon stratagem options and also would give helldivers pause to consider bringing a medium pen primary on bug missions.

Lower the aggro on turrets/mortars or increase their health? – These stratagems appear to have high aggro. Whenever deployed I have seen them killed almost immediately by bots and I have seen bile titans and chargers seemly stop what they are doing to go destroy these stratagems. Their power is already limited by the fact they are stationary, have limited ammo, and take time to deal their damage. On higher difficulties I have given up on bringing these stratagems because why risk these stratagems being destroyed before they can do 20% of their dmg potential vs using something like the airburst orbital or an airstrike that deals all its damage up front and not risk losing them before they can deal their damage.

I am sure some of you that read this post will just think I am whining or just want to tell me to get good, and that may be true as I do suck at the game but again the point of this post is to promote more options on what helldivers feel they can take on a mission and have fun. If a helldiver wants to be a machine gunner, pyro, or combat engineer and deploy sentries and mortars for his team, why not? Ya this may make the game “too easy” to some players but at the same time probably no matter what the devs do to the game it will be too easy to those players.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post, look forward to reading others suggestions and feedback, and hope you have a good day!

2024.05.14 23:07 TeddyBru2021 Patch of coarse hair and hair missing under front legs

Before I’m told to call my vet- I have and they’ve said to “keep an eye on it” for now, but I’m worried and a curious.
I have a 6 month old pit/boxer mix. She has a short, soft coat. We’ve had her for two months and noticed 2 weeks ago she was missing hair under both of her front legs- we assumed her harness was too tight and have since switched it, but her hair isn’t regrowing. A few days ago she developed a patch of rough, coarse hair on her shoulder. I noticed it the day after she had a playdate with her sibling where they play sort of rough, if that has to do with anything. We gave her a bath and brushed her but the hair is very coarse still.
Wondering if these symptoms sound like a skin allergy? She does scratch herself but it doesn’t seem excessive, but this is my first time owning a puppy so I’m not sure what would be considered excessive. She’s very itchy when she first wakes up in the morning- typically her ears and eyes, but during the day she seems fine.
TIA :)

2024.05.14 23:02 noavailablenamesbruh The Silhouette

Hey eddie, it's a bit long, but this is a story you could review, or read in a video. My names zachary, hope whoever reads this, enjoys.
Chapter 1.
I was laying in my room when I decided it'd be fun to have some friends over. I ordered a pizza, and invited Marcus, James, Aj, and Demarius over. 15 minutes later...
Chapter 2.
Ding... dong... I sprinted downstairs, finally, pizza arrived. Then I saw my friends cars pull up. Everyone walked in, I greeted them all. I led them to my room. We all sat down, and discussed what we should do, while eating our pizza, of course. James suggested we could use my airsoft guns and go play in the forest, which sounded fun at the time. Everyone agreed, and we grabbed the airsoft guns, and headed out into the forest behind my house. I didn't know that was the worst thing we could have done.
Chapter 3.
Once we ventured deep enough that we thought it was perfect, we picked our teams, and began. BBs were flying past each other, us trying not to get nailed in the face. Then a loud thud, and then fast, and loud footsteps. I put my hand in the air and told everyone to stop. We all gathered around. "Did you guys hear that sound? Then the loud footsteps." I inquired. "Yeah, but I thought it was you guys trying to scare us." James replied. Then the thud, even closer now. I looked around, until I fucking saw it. A 7 foot silhouette of some sort of animal, walking on its hind legs. "What the fuck is that?!" I yelled They all looked at me like I was crazy. "Theres nothing ther-" Then the Thud again, and this time, everyone saw the creatures silhouette. "Go back to the house" Marcus said "Go back to the house!" Marcus rose his voice this time. We all began running. I looked over my shoulder and saw it sprinting on all fours, getting closer and closer. The only thing letting us run so fast, was pure adrenaline.
Chapter 4.
We all ran for about a quarter mile, till we got to the house. We scrambled around the house, locking all doors and windows, and we closed all of the blinds. Then the muffled thud. We all turned to look out the back door. We all had a look of horror as the thing chasing us, edged the treeline, and we saw its body. Tight skin, as if it skinned another animal, and tried to fit inside it, but it was too small. Torn, rotting skin, a face that looked like a deer, but blood stained...
Chapter 5.
We all watched it like a hawk. Then, simultaneously, all our phones vibrated, and the screeching and chirping sounds of an amber alert went off. It was described the exact creature we were watching. We called the police. 3 minutes later. The police entered the house and we told them it was by the trees. They searched the area, but it was gone.
Sometimes, I wonder if it's still there. Watching me, and following me. I never entered that forest again, and my family moved shortly after.

2024.05.14 23:02 Withen101 Itchy tatoo way earlier than expected, looking for advice. Worried about over moisturizing it

Hello! I've got one tatoo already on my left shoulder, and recently I got another that covers half of my other arm.
The first one I was told to keep protected with film for 3-4 days, then to only wash it and not apply anything to it until the 15th day or so. From there on out, Aquaphor. I did so, and it didn't really itch or anything until a week and some days were past.
With my second one the artist just told me to keep it clean, and if I want I could apply some moisturizer when it started to scab, but other than that I should leave it alone as much as possible.
Problem is:, It started to itch on my 3rd, 4th day, and when I run my finger over it I feel it's not smooth, and felt dry. I take it that's the scabbing, though it's not visible to the eye (I have a hard time discerning if that's how it's meant to scab or it's just how the wound feels)
I'm currently on day 4 and started applying moisturizer yesterday, since I thought it was just dry and needed it, but I'm a bit worried because it's very early compared to the other one, and I really don't want to over moisturize it since I know it can lead to fucking up the tattoo.
It could just be that this one is healing quicker (the second artist had way more experience and took a lot of time to do every single detail and shadow with the smallest needle, we spent a lot of time in it). It's also all black, no colour, and the last one had colour as well, I've heard that it makes a difference in the healing process.
Am I doing it right? Is it easy to go overboard with moisturizing it? Can the techniques make that much of a difference in the speed of recovery? Should I expect it to be done with the healing much earlier than the other?
I'm using aquaphor, making my best effort to apply it as thinly as I can. Washing it once or twice a day with neutral soap, since I'm not really going out of home. Also, it's not red, or swollen at all.

2024.05.14 23:01 Beach_bean Can someone explain difference between AV/BV AND CV?

Bit of background I was on a year of high dose daily antibiotics with a private specialist mainly amoxicillin (I know vagina microbiome killer) due to a chronic UTI that I’m still dealing with. I had to stop all antibiotics after I had a severe reaction which caused neuropathy that I still deal with and also I had a severe acute case of thrush where I was so sore down there. Since coming off the meds my vagina has a smelly but not fishy smell, my discharge is sometimes like a bright yellow or thick and clumpy. I get lots of discharge all the time, often soak through my pants but on the other hand I can sometimes get an extremely dry vagina where I can’t even insert a finger. Itching, redness and general uncomfortable feeling. I had an STD panel which was clear but not sure if it tested for trich. Pessaries don’t work and I can’t take anymore oral meds. I had 2 days of metronidazole in December for hpylori (gut infection) and my body erupted in bouts of neuropathy causing severe nerve pain, burning all over, fasciculations: this is all better than original onset but still really affects me. Feel at my wits end and feel like nothing works down there.
