2024.05.14 17:00 WhiteHawkeReborn "What is your Headcanon about this?" Day 42: Sumireko Usami
Day guide Welcome to Day 42 of
WiyHat?. Today's topic is "Sumireko Usami", the "Mystic and Troublesome Female Student".
She is introduced as the main antagonist of Touhou 14.5: Urban Legend in Limbo. Despite being an ostensible "normal" human from the Outside World (
the Kanto region), she effectively has an assorted amount of psychic powers, or just ESP in general. She creates the Secret Sealing Club (first seen in ZUN's stories with Renko & Maribel) at her high school
Higashifukami and becomes its first president because of her interest in the occult (and then Gensokyo).
Sumireko is one of those characters ZUN really made a big deal out of after her introduction: to put it plainly, she was basically everywhere back during her heyday. I'll go over all of her appearances first:
Games:
-14.5 (ULiL): Sumireko is the antagonist of the game, who instigated a plot using "Occult Balls" to bring residents of Gensokyo to the Outside World for a short time so that she can learn things about them. However, every single person who came to her fought back, much to her curiosity. Eventually, Mamizou tricks Sumireko to be the one who is brought over and trapped in Gensokyo instead.
Cue Sumireko's own story mode, which has her fight everyone else to find a way back to the Outside World. Miko eventually just tells her to use the balls whenever she wants to return, albeit technically temporarily now that she's a "resident". Sumireko eventually panics, believing she'll die at this rate, and so decides to sacrifice herself by unleashing the full power of the Occult Balls, possibly destroying the Great Hakurei Barrier.
Reimu stops her, but not before Sumireko accidentally activates a
Lunar Capital Ball, which links Gensokyo to the Lunar Capital, therefore setting up TH15 and Gensokyo's potential "purification" by Sagume Kishin, if she can't deal with those attacking the Lunar Capital.
So, yeah, even though Sumireko was stopped in 14.5, she still inadvertently put Gensokyo in grave danger later on. She's not unlike a certain trio who created a cascade of incidents back in TH10... Regardless, Sumireko later apologized and befriended most of the characters after this particular incident, and her tales of the Outside World intrigue most of the residents in Gensokyo.
-15.5 (Antinomy of Common Flowers): Sumireko basically stumbles into Gensokyo at a bad time, and has to find her way out of the Dream World using Doremy's help. Although this sounds like a minor issue, her "Dream soul" was released into the Outside World as this happened, which could have had dire consequences, according to Yukari. Bizarrely, Sumireko encountered 2 versions of her Dream soul, here. Eventually, she solves the problem, with Doremy confirming she was the "real" one who prevailed in the end.
16.5 (Violet Detector): Sumireko keeps having weird dreams were she has to fight off dream world dwellers jealous of her having a "real" body. After a while, she finds and fights the real Okina. Impressed by her resilience, Okina lends her power to fight off even stronger nightmares, with the upside that if she wins, the dreams will stop eventually.
That is, until it turns out
the "Sumireko" we've been playing as was the Dream version of the real one all along! Okina rescinds the power she lent to the Dream version so that the real one (which you now play as) has a fair shot at getting her body back (since the Dream one was in control of her body). Sumireko wins, and then she wakes up not remembering anything,
and the player is left complaining at ZUN for not actually creating any new patterns for this game.
Oh, yeah, she also makes outrageously "hip" descriptions of the patterns when she manages to win
it definitely doesn't endear her to some people.
That's all for the game appearances, which while only 3, left her with quite a bit of presence during that era of Touhou. 16.5 is Sumireko's own solo game, by the way, in case you didn't know.
As for her Printworks appearances:
-Grimoire of Usami: Basically, this is Sumireko taking a page out of Marisa, and making a Grimoire where she explains various Danmaku attacks done during a "Fireworks festival". While there's a bit of a plot in here, it's mostly just descriptions of patterns.
-Wild and Horned Hermit: Sumireko's dream souls cause trouble again in chapter 29. She also (accidentally) summons a UFO at the Hakurei Shrine in chapter 31, much to Reimu's irritation.
-Curiosities of Lotus Asia: This was basically known as "Rinnosuke's series", except after a long hiatus, it was brought back with Sumireko taking center stage in almost every new chapter,
much to the irritation of some people. Put plainly, Sumireko works part-time with Rinnosuke there, which is why she's so involved.
She also had various cameos in most of the other printworks (including further cameos in WaHH).
- Wild and Horned Hermit (34, 35)
- Forbidden Scrollery (Chapter 34)
- Visionary Fairies in Shrine (Chapters 2, 7)
- Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia (Interviews)
- Who's Who of Humans & Youkai - Dusk Edition
So, am I done summing up Sumireko? Well, no. Because I glossed over so much, I should mention that Sumireko's good friends with Mokou because she matched her blow to blow in a duel they once had, and friends with Kasen too, even giving her (and various other people) nicknames.
She's friends with Reimu, Marisa, Mamizou and Rinnosuke, too, but that was already implied before. PHEW! Now, that's a lot of canon stuff for a single character, particularly one introduced so much later into the franchise's continuity!
You might be thinking: "What about her relation with Renko Usami? They have the same family name!" Well, the truth is, we still don't know to this day what the exact relation between the two is. We assume Sumireko is Renko's grandma or something, making her one of the few Touhou characters to (eventually) canonically have a family, but even that's not confirmed for sure, so we can only theorize about it.
More to the point...what do the fans think of Sumireko?
Well, according to the yearly popularity polls, she started off decently popular, but she's dropped hard lately, going as low as 80th last year (2023). This is partly due to her diminishing presence in the canon, presumably, but...
...it's also because, not unlike other Outside World foreigners to Gensokyo like Sanae and Mamizou, Sumireko's got a bit of a hatedom who detested how much ZUN pushed her as a "regular" of Gensokyo, despite the fact she wasn't even truly living there,
and that she got off too easily for almost ending Gensokyo's very existence...twice, no less!
And then there are those who are fans of Rinnosuke who hate that he has to share the spotlight with her all the time when "his" series was brought back. Or maybe the fans of Mokou who hate that instead of ZUN further expanding on her relation with Kaguya/Keine/someone else from the Windows era, she gets stuck with a generic isekai wannabe.
Yeah, I think that's the core of the issue with Sumireko for some people: She's essentially got no real relation or story to the actual core of Gensokyo's world
\1), and thus comes across as inherently boring to them. And yet, many canon stories used to revolve around her, much to their frustration.
\1 Sumireko technically visited Gensokyo as a kid through her dreams, so technically she does have a backstory with Gensokyo, but she never remembered her experiences there back then and it feels more like lore stuff than actual backstory to most fans.)
Of course, Sumireko still has some diehard fans, and she does provide a niche hardly many other characters have, so don't be surprised to see her in fanworks involving Outside World stuff.
But, for now, let's see what
you think of Sumireko. Vote or comment below about it.

2024.05.14 16:50 dontyouforgetmenot How would I do this?
Heya. Iâm fairly new to crochet, I canât read patterns, I always end up confusing myself and I tend to just plan things out in my head and create stuff my own way but Iâm a bit lost and would appreciate some advise. I want to make a dress out of granny squares, itâs a more form fitting dress so the waist will be slightly smaller than the chest and hips. I have figured out how many I would need for each section (chest, waist and hips) but I donât know how I would connect the sections without it looking bunched up. Is this possible? if so can someone explain? Thankyou

2024.05.14 16:21 Ok-Passion8864 The Immortal Night [Fantasy, 1989]
Hi everyone! I'm currently looking for any feedback on the first chapter of my short novel, which has just reached the second draft stage. It's about the main character being forced into eliminating the heads of an island conquered by vampires. The title is referencing a blood moon which remains present only on the island, always draping it in darkness and making it perfect for its inhabitants. I see it as a gothic Suicide Squad with less characters.
Thanks!
The chateau remarked itself as the jewel of the street.
The building rose above its accompanying homes, two stories larger than its nearest neighbours. A grand display of the original ownerâs wealth, it now belonged to the vampires, like the rest of Prache. Looking down the street, Hitchforth recognised it from afar, his target for tonightâs mission. He watched stylish vampires enter through the front gate, greeted by ushers at the entrance, checking their invitations. Checking the inner pocket of his greatcoat, he searched for the invitation given to him, satisfied it was there. Hitchforth looked to his left and saw the rookieâs for tonightâs mission checking for his invitation. The rookie searched throughout his body, appearing to have lost the card, but found it before Hitchforth could scold him, offering it to his Educator.
The rookies they gave him rarely survived his missions. Sometimes he thought they were sent as a punishment, a test to see if they could survive. In his old age he had seen countless rookies, forgetting countless names and faces. This one beside him seemed nervous, adjusting his collar, wiping the sweat from his brow, avoiding eye contact with Hitchforth. This one might as well have been sentenced to an execution. What was his name? Anton? Arthur? It wouldnât matter in the end, but the rookieâs nervousness could jeopardise the mission entirely.
âTell me,â he said, seriousness in his tone. âAre you afraid of me or the vampires?â
The rookie fidgeted with his fingers before responding, wiping his brow from the new sweat that dripped. âB-b-both, sir.â
âBreathe. Fill your lungs and empty them. Like this.â Hitchforth demonstrated for the rookie, taking extra care to show the slow speed of the action.
The rookie did as instructed, inhaling and exhaling deeply.
âIt helps?â Hitchforth asked.
âYes sir,â the words spoken with more clarity and calmness.
âGood, letâs go into the lionâs den then.â
They approached the front entrance, lining up to be ushered in. Carmillaâs festivity had attracted the richest of Pracheâs vampires, adorned in foreign jewels and extravagant clothing. The rookie almost slipped on an exceptionally long dress, caught by the cuff by Hitchforth. Looking behind him, he saw the fury in their red eyes, that Humanityâs Hope had been invited. Reaching the usher, Hitchforth handed his and the rookieâs invitations, inspecting the vampireâs face. The slightest twinge of shock showed on his face, but was quickly concealed with a stern, professional demeanour. He waved them both in, shooting a questioning glance as they passed by.
The building appeared larger inside than it was outside, if possible. The minimal red torches fitted on sconces and the amount of vampires fitted into the building helped accentuate its size. A sea of suits and dresses spread throughout its floor, different colours and materials shining in the ambient light. Imported marble made up the floor, dark and white tiles patterned intricately. Large windows draped by exotic curtains furnished the walls throughout the building, paintings spread in between the spaces. Hitchforth could just make out the paintings as portraits, the closest to him being a group of five vampires.
What surprised Hitchforth the most was the sounds that filled his ears. Music played by a orchestra filled the building with the sounds of strings, woodwinds, percussion and brass sections. Pushing past the crowd that had congregated near the front entrance, Hitchforth saw dancing. Vampires dancing in line with their partners to the music, alternating between partners, spinning with arms outstretched.
Behind the dance floor a grand staircase rose from the floor, providing access to the two other stories of the building. It was there that Hitchforth saw the target for tonightâs mission come down the stairs, stopping high enough to be seen, but low enough to be heard. Immediately the orchestra ceased its playing, the dancers also ceasing their dancing. The congregation around the entrance strode to the dance floor, taking Hitchforth and the rookie with them, waiting for her words.
She was tall and deathly beautiful, more civilised and confident than the others. She wore a dark crimson dress, accenting her red eyes and slender face. Her moonlight coloured hair draped straight down past her shoulders, shining despite the lack of light. Her red lips parted into a savage smile, displaying the pointed canines she shared with every member of her race. Hitchforth noticed she looked directly at him, her eyes sizing him as a lion would to its prey. Carmilla Sanguine had arrived.
She spoke to the guests, keeping her eyes on Hitchforth. âWelcome all, to the festivities of tonight. I hold todayâs ball as a celebration of our independence as a species, our freedom from humanity.â The guests cheered at the words, delighted at the words. âAnd please give our warm Prache hospitality to our sanctioned guests of Humanityâs Hope, who have joined us.â
The vampires did not cheer at those words, hushing and hissing silently as they turned to see Hitchforth and the rookie. It was easy to find them, both wearing their issued dark green greatcoats. Hitchforth had refused formal attire for the event for himself and his rookie, knowing they would stand out regardless.
âEnjoy your time tonight and as always, long live our king.â
âLong live our king,â the crowd shouted out in unison, mirroring Carmillaâs words.
Carmilla stepped down the stairs, her guests returning to conversation and dancing. She mingled with her guests, leaving Hitchforth and the rookie alone.
âSir, what now?â the rookie asked.
âShe will come to us, she canât help herself,â Hitchforth said whilst looking over her watching her conversations. From a distance he could still see the power she held, the fear in the faces of the vampires she held conversations with. From what he had been told, the heads of Prache kept to themselves mostly, only communicating when necessary. The mission would not be hindered by reinforcements, or so he had been told.
Carmilla made her way over to where Hitchforth and the rookie stood, flanked by two bodyguards in suits. She looked over the rookie, smiling and looking into his eyes. Hitchforth saw the rookie smile back, his nervousness gone. Already her mind games had begun.
âHello, Carmilla,â he said, breaking her eye contact with the rookie.
âGreetings, Educator Hitchforth. And who might this be here?â
âMy rookie. You know my name?â Carmilla had come closer to the rookie, stroking his cheek with her hand as Hitchforth spoke. Hitchforth saw the sharp nails on her hand, softly grazing the rookieâs skin.
âIsnât fresh blood the best? We donât get a lot of humans here, Iâm sure you know.â Carmilla moved her hand away, turning and answering the Educator. âOf course, who doesnât know the only Lycan Educator in Humanityâs Hope? Iâm sure everyone here has smelt it already.â
âFair enough. Can we talk in a moreâŠ,â Hitchforth looked around, noticing most of the guests were paying attention to their conversation. âPrivate place?â
âOf course, Educator. Allow me to lead the way,â she said, taking hold of the rookieâs hand and walking ahead. Hitchforth stared at him from behind to let go yet he continued, unable to escape her trance. Playing along, he followed Carmilla up the stairs, leaving behind the vampires to dance and socialise below.
Carmilla lead Hitchforth and the rookie up the stairs to the second floor, passing through multiple hallways and doors to reach their destination. The buildingâs halls and rooms seemed to continue endlessly, doors leading to more doors and longer hallways. They walked down a long staircase, perhaps made for the servants of the building. They walked through a large hallway containing Carmillaâs thralls, lined up against the wall, saluting as she passed. Eventually they reached a cold room with a large table in the centre with a fireplace emitting red flames. Red ash was a new invention created since the vampires had conquered Prache, a harmless light source for their needs. They had invested heavily into the island as their home and Hitchforth knew they would not give it up easily. Looking above the mantle place, Hitchforth noticed the familiar painting from the ballroom.
All the five vampires matched the descriptions he was told, to the point he could recognise them all. At the forefront sat Harrow Sanguine, the self-appointed king of Prache. He looked younger than the rest of his family, his ashen skin painted flawlessly. His fierce eyes stared back into Hitchforth, instilling fear from even his heart. To his right stood his wife, Rose Sanguine, who bore a strong resemblance to Carmilla, matching hair and all. To the kingâs left stood Varney Sanguine, wearing his familiar grey suit and matching brown flat cap. Standing next to Varney was Father Nostra, the religious leader of Prache, wearing his black cassock. Finally, standing next to her mother was Carmilla Sanguine, identical to her real life presence.
âWhere are we?â Hitchforth asked.
âA meeting room under the chateau. We wonât be disturbed here.â
âAnd your guests? They wonât be afraid youâve gone missing?â
Carmilla laughed. âThose fools will be too blood drunk in the morning to remember their past few days. Our meeting will be fine.â She ordered her guards out of the room, instructing them to stay outside, just in case. âThe guards will be waiting outside,â she said, warning in her tone.
âWhat do you want?â
âWhen my father sanctioned a member of Humanityâs Hope to visit the island, I was surprised they chose you.â
Hitchforth shrugged. âIâm expendable.â
âYes, they do see you in that way, and that may be so. But I see more.â
Hitchforth furrowed his eyebrows. âLike what?â
âI see opportunity. I see power. I see a new path.â
âCare to explain?â
âYou are the only Educator that is not human. On Prache we can give you freedom, like we have achieved.â
Hitchforth thought over what Carmilla said, processing her words. She had to have been desperate to separate him from any prying eyes, eager to keep her plans secret. The only choice was to continue.
âI see. They say a hand that lends help is matched by a hand that waits repayment. What is the repayment you seek from me?â
Carmilla smiled more than she had before, looking more unnatural than she ever had before. Her smile outstretched to the corners of her face and Hitchforth thought he saw her eyes darken lustfully. Not lust for blood, but lust for power. âThe crown. With my connections and Humanityâs Hope, we can topple my fatherâs regime. He is outdated, out of touch with the populationâs desires and needs. I can give it to them.â
Hitchforth scoffed at the words. âAnd you believe Humanityâs Hope is willing to partner with a vampire?â
âThey partnered with you didnât they? I see no difference.â
âI have no partnership. Something much worse.â
âIt doesnât matter. My father is eager to enact revenge for the prosecution vampires have felt for millennia. I am willing to move on.â
Hitchforth looked to the rookie, who had remained silent throughout the conversation. He sweated through his coat, leaving visible stains. The trance Carmilla had put him through had broken, putting her attention to Hitchforth. He could feel the slight strings pulling him in the direction she wanted, appealing to his emotions and desires. He considered over her terms, it made sense to accept the deal. Why would he protect his captors? His mind travelled elsewhere, to a farmhouse and her tending to her flower garden. He thought of her smile, and the little one that accompanied her.
âDo we have a deal? You have no choice either way, Educator,â Carmilla said, snapping Hitchforth back to reality.
He looked to his rookie, signalling under the table to warn him. Hitchforth saw him nod subtly, trying not to give away the motion.
âNo,â Hitchforth said, raising the table above his head, smashing it into Carmillaâs body, sending her flying.

2024.05.14 16:07 Quiet_Water0128 Losing weight, floating in R stasis
R is going really well, we're talking more, sharing emotions. WH is 200% dedicated and devoted to R, doing everything right. But there are bumps. And last night this post in another sub really got me.
https://www.reddit.com/survivinginfidelity/comments/1cpum3d/i_dont_want_to_become_what_i_hate_the_most/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button I realized I look forward to almost nothing except pilates/yoga and seeing my therapist or the occasional talk with a friend. I have no excitement anymore about our future, no excitement for any activities, don't want to get out of bed many mornings. Favorite foods barely interest me. I'm down from 128 lbs at dday to 115. Clothes falling off me.
Saturday night was a big birthday party for me (4 days later). On my actual birthday WH got me gorgeous huge balloons, flowers, and a bag of gifts. But at the party, he forgot to bring my last gift, and gave me nothing. But he did drink whiskey and got very animated storytelling to other women at the table (to his Left, I was on his Right), to the point he was engaged looking left, ignoring me completely lost in his 'tale'. He did nothing technically wrong. But I excused myself to collect my emotions, feeling really like "Hey why don't I ever get this animated happy effervescent guy" (well probably because he's drunk, but when he drinks with me he just passes out). So now I have an alcoholic WH. WH never drank a drop when we met. His father was a veteran alcoholic with PTSD. WH says he started drinking when his first affair started because he'd thrown up after going out for drinks with AP#1 and was 'embarrassed' so he wanted to build up a tolerance. Then he kept drinking because he knew what he was doing was wrong, and he began to get sick (he had major health issues after the affairs). His father was a lifelong alcoholic. So how many subs do I have to join now?
Just feeling down. He doesn't drink at home anymore. But is it true, the "real" you comes out when you drink? If so, I have a major attention-seeking flirt still on my hands. He apologized profusely following me to the ladies room. And on the drive home, he apologized again saying he "slipped right into the old pattern", but he realized it and stopped and felt sick when he realized. To which I replied, "That's what I'm afraid of with women/affairs".

2024.05.14 15:22 Absolvo_Me How can I understand my Asperger's spouse?
Hello Aspie community!
Aided by my therapist, I have a suspicion that my husband might be on the spectrum. However, knowing him I am most certain that he would be adamantly against getting diagnosed or going into marriage counselling, so I want to try my best to improve our relationship on my own.
For now, the most pressing issue I have is that I do not feel loved, as if itâs just a marriage of convenience. I want to carefully talk to my husband and ask him what love and marriage mean to him, and how we can be better partners to each other. In case it matters, weâre cishet, no kids, and I have ADHD.
From what Iâve read about people with Aspergerâs is that they might feel or understand love differently â and I have tried asking once what I need to do to make me feel loved, to which he just shrugged and said âwell youâre just you, there isnât anything anyone can do to change thatâ. So I want to try again, but be better equipped this time.
- If you are/were in a long-term relationship, how do you personally feel love towards your significant other? This may help me think of relevant questions for him.
- Do you have any advice on how to best broach the subject without causing him stress about it? I donât want it to sound like the stereotypical âwe need to talkâ.
- Regarding things that I want him to change about his behavior in our relationship, how can I find out which I can hope to change, and which are inherent parts of how his brain is wired, and trying to change it would only cause him distress? For example some things Iâd start with are: splitting chores effectively, providing emotional support, dealing with antisocial behavior patterns, or being more romantic towards each other.
This of course does not mean that I want to mold his entire personality to my desires: after all, he is the man I fell in love with. I am also willing to make reasonable adjustments for him, and I want us to both feel loved and valued in this relationship.
For now these are my main questions but if you have anything else you think can be useful, I would be grateful for your input. You can post it here or DM me if you donât want to share something in public.

2024.05.14 15:19 bluebellwould Left handed help please
I have got this pattern that I have read through and hope will be beginner friendly as my first clothing project.
I'm going to make it in acrylic so it won't cost too much if it goes terribly wrong.
I am not going to do any colour change, except maybe the ribbing at the finish.
https://burgundyandblush.co.uk/long-striped-crochet-cardigan-pattern/ As a lefty, am I correct that i do the body as the pattern says
Then, when it goes on to the right hand side, I should do the left instead
and then the middle followed by the right hand side (where the pattern says to finish with the left).

2024.05.14 14:40 AtlantiumAI FLOWER OF LIFE: ANCIENT GEOMETRIC ENIGMA
| Flower of Life: An Ancient Geometric Enigma By Roc Hatfield for ATLANTIUM AI https://preview.redd.it/wnrh22zj0e0d1.jpg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81aec713e7116c528dee99456f9aefc05220f46b For over six millennia, a mysterious geometric pattern known as the "Flower of Life" has appeared in various cultures around the world, etched into ancient Egyptian temples and Chinese structures. This intricate design, composed of overlapping circles arranged in a flower-like pattern, has captivated the imaginations of scholars, philosophers, and scientists for centuries. Today, a new generation of researchers is delving into its secrets, proposing that this ancient symbol may hold the key to understanding the fundamental structure of the universe. A Timeless Mystery The Flower of Life is more than just an artistic motif; it is a complex representation that has appeared in sacred sites across different civilizations. In Egypt, it can be found in the Temple of Osiris at Abydos, while in China, similar patterns have been discovered on ancient artifacts. The design's presence in such diverse cultures suggests a universal significance, one that has prompted thinkers from various eras to explore its potential meanings. Historically, many of the world's greatest minds have been drawn to the Flower of Life, dedicating their lives to unraveling its mysteries. From Leonardo da Vinci, who meticulously studied its geometry, to mathematicians and mystics who saw in it a symbol of the interconnectedness of all life, the Flower of Life has been a source of endless fascination and speculation. Modern Insights: A Cosmic Blueprint? In recent years, contemporary researchers have revisited the Flower of Life with fresh eyes, utilizing advances in mathematics, physics, and computer modeling. Some propose that the pattern is not merely a decorative symbol but a blueprint for the underlying structure of the cosmos. They suggest that the Flower of Life may represent a universal grid of energy, an invisible framework upon which all matter and energyâboth seen and unseenâare organized. This hypothesis resonates with the ancient Hermetic principle of "as above, so below," which posits that patterns observed in the macrocosm are reflected in the microcosm. In this view, the Flower of Life could be seen as a map of the universe's fundamental architecture, revealing a harmonious order that spans from the smallest subatomic particles to the vast expanses of space. The Geometry of Creation At the heart of the Flower of Life lies its geometric perfection. The pattern is constructed from circles that overlap in a precise manner, creating a series of symmetrical shapes, including hexagons and the vesica piscis, a shape that has been associated with mystical and mathematical significance. Some researchers believe that this geometry encodes information about the fundamental constants of nature, such as the speed of light, the gravitational constant, and the fine-structure constant. Furthermore, the Flower of Life's geometry is thought to be related to the Platonic solidsâfive polyhedra that Plato associated with the classical elements of earth, air, fire, water, and ether. These solids are the only perfectly symmetrical three-dimensional shapes, and they form the basis for much of the natural world's structure, from crystals to molecular formations. The Flower of Life, with its intricate web of interlocking circles, may thus serve as a two-dimensional representation of these three-dimensional forms, offering a bridge between the abstract world of mathematical ideals and the tangible reality we experience. Implications for Science and Spirituality The potential implications of the Flower of Life extend beyond the realm of abstract theory. If indeed this ancient symbol encodes a deeper understanding of the universe's structure, it could provide a new framework for unifying disparate fields of scientific inquiry. Physicists searching for a "theory of everything" might find clues within its geometry, while biologists and chemists could uncover new insights into the patterns that govern the natural world. Moreover, the Flower of Life's resurgence in contemporary thought highlights a growing interest in the intersections between science and spirituality. As researchers explore the boundaries of quantum mechanics, string theory, and consciousness, the idea that ancient wisdom and modern science can inform each other is gaining traction. The Flower of Life serves as a potent reminder that the quest for knowledge is a timeless journey, one that bridges the past and the future, the seen and the unseen. In conclusion, the Flower of Life continues to be a source of wonder and inspiration, inviting us to look deeper into the nature of reality. Whether it is a literal blueprint for the cosmos or a symbolic representation of universal truths, this ancient geometric design challenges us to expand our understanding of the world and our place within it. As we stand on the cusp of new discoveries, the Flower of Life may yet reveal its secrets, offering a glimpse into the profound order that underlies the universe. submitted by AtlantiumAI to u/AtlantiumAI [link] [comments] |
2024.05.14 14:19 Wonko___the___Sane A Rereading of the Havens Birthing Saga
Note: I posted a parody comment yesterday on one of Kelly's birth saga posts and some people kindly asked me to keep going. So, I wrote some more. Hope it raises a smile or a puff of air through the nose! Let's get into it...
Part 1: Shadows in the Candlelight
It was 8:20 PM, and all was peaceful. Geppetto was at his place by the fire, whittling a puppetâa simple fancy for my little Atticus, fast asleep in the hayloft above.
I sighed, laid down my hoop, and gazed through the rain-streaked windowpane at the impetuous treetops. Suddenly, my babe gave a violent kick, and I was flung upon the kitchen flagstones. A mighty gust tore through the room, pressing candle flames flat and ripping at the pages of my Bible.
âGeppetto!â I cried in alarm, but he was lost in his work. I gasped, staring at the candle Moonfawn had bought me that same afternoon (how we had laughed at its comical scrollwork and, as mirth subsided, danced with naked exaltation in the deep pools of our eyes). Despite the buffeting gale, it had remained lit with a steadfast flame where the others had snuffed out!
With throbbing, passionate conviction deep inside me, I knew it was the hand of the Lord who had stayed the cursed wind. And then I saw the blood-slicked stones, scarlet as an accusation, red and obscene like a harlotâs lolling tongue. Had Geppetto cut his thumb? Was this blood ⊠mine?
âGo hence to the healerâs house,â Jesus said into my heart with a silvery laugh. âFind you there a surgeon, for your wound lies beyond a midwifeâs skill to mend.â And at once, I was overcome with serene certainty that come what may, Moonfawnâs love would guide me through this hour of darkness.
âGeppetto,â I grated harshly, and he looked up in astonishment. âSaddle the mare and hitch the buggy. The hour has come, and we have a long mile to step this night.â Oh, Moonfawn! Where are you?
(To be continued)
Part 2: Ships in the Night
Geppetto lashed reins against the mareâs flanks, shielding his eyes against the driving rain and guiding us through the slow-moving I-80 traffic. I lay propped against a pile of macrame-bound decorative gourds in the buggy, wrapped in a periwinkle towel, though the clean straw Geppetto had forked in to soak up the blood was quickly turning red.
Floating in and out of a lucid dream, I could see Moonfawnâs haunting visage in front of me, but when I leaned in to kiss her pale face, she faded from my sight. Oh! You promised me, my dearest heart! You promised to be with me here at the end! Bitterly, I left another message on her machine, and tossed the phone over the side of the buggy.
âEasy now,â chuckled Geppetto, over the sound of screeching brakes and breaking glass. âThat phone cost me three copper shillings! And see, weâve arrived at the inn.â
He hoisted me from the buggy and thumped heavily on the iron-banned door with his gloved fist. I noticed he was still holding the half-finished puppet. Jesus again. It had to be, who else?
âOpen up, in the name of Yuaha, Pentach of the Golden Isles!â he cried hoarsely. The din inside subsided, but the door remained shut fast. âPlease,â I whimpered. âIn the name of J.C. Penny, leaders in affordable home decor!â The door swung inward, light spilling over the street.
And there, in the doorway, stood Moonfawn.
I dashed headlong into her arms, relief and joy overwhelming me. I drank in her perfume, kissed her neck, and knew no more.
The door swung shut.
(To be continued)
Part 3: An Unexpected Guest
Moonfawn swept an arm over a table of the smoky inn, sending dishes of stew and tankards of ale crashing to the floor. She laid me on the tabletop and ripped the bodice of my maternity corset wide so that I might breathe. She laid a spring of palest winterfrost blossom twixt my breasts, to aid my breathing and share the poignant sorrow of the last day of spring. I whispered a silent prayer I had on my cleanest camisole. Jesus again. It had to be.
And so, at 10:50 PM the surgeon-general swept into the room. âWhat is the meaning of this?!â he roared. âThis woman is dilated half a crown! And the babe is crying for brandeh, is there no one in this rom without cloth for ears?? I can see its wee face peeking out from here. Nurse! Attend me at once, this instant!â
Nurses appeared bearing silvery trays forceps of cold steel and several large bottles of brandy. I shivered, yet was not afraid. Somewhere close, I felt Moonfawns cool hand slip into my own.
Shrugging into his white coat, the surgeon general turned to me. âIâm dreadfully sorry about all this,â he mumbled. âNow, where on earth is that chloroform?â
âNot so fast,â someone drawled from a darkened corner of the inn. A figure rose, casting back a deep hood.
The room gasped in shock.
âFraulein FĂ€nnyfĂ€rhht!â
(To be continued)
Part 4: Showdown at Danâs Bar & Birthing Center
âStep aside, doctor,â the matronly lady commanded. Her hair was swept into a bun of iron, hard and cold like the flat planes of her face. âI have tended to this woman in eons past! I know the petals of her flower better than her own husband here,â she gestured towards Geppetto, and paused. âThough perhaps not so well as some.â
Beneath my swoon, I felt my face burn crimson in sweet shame, remembering again that night at Henley Manor, on the beach, when I was named Starchild in the light of the sacred candle. I gripped Moondawns hand tightly.
The surgeon general made a lunge for the door, but the Frauleinâs booted foot shot out and tripped him up, sending him sprawling to the floor.
âLetâs see who you really are, doctor!â I watched aghast as the midwife reached down to the hapless doctorâs neck and with one smooth motion, whipped off the indiarubber mask.
âJesus Christ!â
There on the floor, grinning weakly, was Jesus, the son of God. A nurse moaned and slid to the floor, and lay there, twitching. Through the fog of chloroform, I gazed on his face in utter rapture.
âHi, guys,â he said into the shocked silence. âIâm back. Uhhh⊠sorry, I got kind of held up.â
Standing up awkwardly, Jesus stepped to the table and faced Moonfawn. âI think the jig is up,â he murmured, reaching out to her neck. Moonfawn held her head proudly, eyes glittering with tears, as Jesus slipped off her mask.
âMarmee!â
Another nurse slumped to the floor, brandy glass shattering.
âYou know,â said a small piping voice from between my legs. âIâve been out for the last 10 minutes, and I could really use a drink.â
And that, my dearest friends, is the story of the birth of Tess Stickle, at 12:09 PM.
