2024.05.10 21:58 VaDOT U.S. 250 / Ivy Road Improvement Study Survey Extended

Project Pipeline proposes safety, mobility changes for all users; survey continues to May 17
The survey, which has a translation tool for other languages, is available at https://publicinput.com/cu-23-09alternatives. The Virginia Department of Transportation's public survey seeking comments on a transportation study assessing potential safety and bicycle and pedestrian improvements for the U.S. 250 (Ivy Road) corridor has been extended through May 17 to allow time for additional public comments. The survey area includes the interchange with U.S. 29, with end points in the west at Ednam Drive in Albemarle County and Alderman Road to the east in the city of Charlottesville.
The purpose of this study is to identify project recommendations for the U.S. 250 corridor. This study will focus on improving roadway safety, reducing traffic congestion, improving access, and enhancing multimodal accessibility and connectivity for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users, including how these needs might be satisfied by facilities within the Route 601 (Old Ivy Road) corridor.
VDOT invites residents and travelers to review potential improvement alternatives developed based on detailed studies and the feedback received in August 2023 to identify existing transportation issues along the Ivy Road corridor. Please take the online survey through May 17. Community input received through this survey will help identify the community's preferred improvement alternatives to improve transportation safety and operations along the corridor.
The survey, which has a translation tool for other languages, is available at https://publicinput.com/cu-23-09alternatives. Comments can also be sent to [charles.proctor@vdot.virginia.gov](mailto:charles.proctor@vdot.virginia.gov) or to Charles Proctor, Virginia Department of Transportation, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701.
This study is being conducted as part of the Project Pipeline program, which was created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board. Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment, in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
The Commonwealth is partnering with Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, the University of Virginia, the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, and RK&K to develop targeted improvements for the U.S. 250 (Ivy Road) Project Pipeline Study that minimize community impacts and address priority needs in a cost-effective way. This study is expected to be complete in summer 2024; it does not set construction dates for any improvements. The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding through programs including SMART SCALE, revenue sharing, interstate funding, and others.
VDOT ensures nondiscrimination and equal employment in all programs and activities in accordance with Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If you need more information or special assistance for persons with disabilities or limited English proficiency, contact VDOT’s Culpeper District Office of Civil Rights at (540) 829-7391.

2024.05.09 22:40 trailspotting Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, MA

 Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, MA
Cyclists wheeling past a restored signal.
• 4-star trail • 15.0 miles each way • Easy difficulty Easy elevation • Chelmsford to Framingham, MA NE Massachusetts • Link: Full article with maps, links & smartphone navigation
Twenty miles west of Boston, the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail winds its way on a north-south route through the quiet leafy environs of Middlesex County towns. Covering the full length of Chelmsford, Acton and Concord since only 2023 this non-motorized trail offers 15 miles of continuous asphalt pavement and includes multiple parking lots, restrooms and a couple of large trail bridges along its route.
Presently the southern end of the trail terminates at the Concord-Sudbury border, but Phase 2D of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is currently under way and when this extension opens (expected June 2025) it will lengthen the route by a further 4.4 miles. Ultimately the trail will be around 24 miles in length and end at Framingham.
This exceptionally smooth asphalt trail is particularly popular with recreational trail users both locally and regionally, and due to its north-south direction doesn't see many speedy commuter bicycles along its route.
Crossing the Assabet River.
Picturesque in nature, the trail offers a variety of tree-lined views throughout and regular kinks in the former railroad alignment allow fresh scenery to reveal itself as you progress. The trail runs adjacent to several water features including Beaver Brook, Heart Pond, Nara Park and Ice House Pond, and two of these even feature beaches that we've flagged on our map.
Intersections with major roads are remarkably few, thanks to substantial trail bridges over Great Road and State Route 2. There's a signalized road crossing near West Concord station, and at the very north of the trail there are two further road crossings in Chelmsford - one of which is confusing and would benefit from additional trail signs.
Two people walking across a wooden-decked bridge with steel arch truss supports on the sides. River below with green leafy trees overhanging.
Wooden carved statue on the trail in Chelmsford.
By West Concord railroad station the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail passes close to the end another rail trail - the Reformatory Branch Trail, that further connects to the Minute Man Bikeway heading towards Boston. Reaching this trail requires 2.6 miles of road biking heading east along the wide State Route 62. We have trail reviews for both of these rail trails, and on our overview rail trail map of New England we've highlighted in red the road biking connection.
• Trail Conditions: Very smooth asphalt throughout and no significant gradient. Can get particularly busy with recreational trail users on weekends and holidays.
• Link: Full article with maps, links & smartphone navigation
On the segment north of Chelmsford.
Bruce Freeman Rail Trail has surprisingly few road intersections.
Not all of Bruce Freeman's trail segments are as straight as this. The winding trail provides fresh scenery reveals from time-to-time.
Catching a breath at Heart Pond.
Back on the trail at Heart Pond.
Sticking out of a watercourse by the former pencil factory.
The massive new (as of 2023) Route 2 trail bridge.
The trail curves past the Massachusetts Correctional Institution prison. I was a little worried here, since I was riding past, wearing orange.

Published by Anthony Talcott
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday received 20 bills from the state Legislature covering a variety of issues, including building regulations, critical infrastructure crimes and rental security deposits.
DeSantis has until Wednesday, May 22 to decide whether to sign the bills into law.
The news bills include the following:

HB 191 — Town of Orchid

House Bill 191 refers to the town of Orchid in Indian River County.
Under state law, local governments are required to hold public meetings within their jurisdictions — unless they have a population of 500 people or fewer.
Orchid — with a population of 531 as of last year — doesn’t have any meeting facilities in its boundaries, so it’s been holding public meetings at a local privately owned golf club instead.
As such, this bill would provide an exception under state statutes to allow Orchid to hold such meetings within five miles of its boundaries.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect immediately.

HB 267 — Building Regulations

House Bill 267 aims to amend the state’s building code.
More specifically, the bill would implement set time limits for local governments to either approve or deny permit applications.
In addition, the bill would make the following changes:
Local governments must create auditing standards before auditing a private provider.
Completing an internship program for residential building inspectors is a pathway for licensure as a residential building inspector.
Sealed drawings will not be required for replacements of windows, doors, or garage doors in certain homes so long as they meet state standards.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

HB 275 — “Critical Infrastructure” Crimes

House Bill 275 aims to create new offenses under state law involving critical infrastructure.
“Critical infrastructure” in the bill refers to linear assets that are designed to exclude unauthorized people, such as fences, no-trespassing signs, generators, energy plants, or TV stations.
Under this bill, damaging, accessing or tampering with critical infrastructure could result in both criminal and civil penalties.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on July 1.

HB 415 — Pregnancy and Parenting Resources

House Bill 415 seeks to create a “comprehensive state website” with information about pregnancy and parenting resources.
Under this bill, the Department of Health would be responsible for contracting a third party to create the website with details on both public and private resources.
That website would have to include information on resources related to:
Education materials on pregnancy and parenting
Maternal health services
Prenatal and postnatal services
Educational and mentorship programs for fathers
Social services
Financial assistance
Adoption services
If signed into law, this bill would take effect on July 1.

HB 509 — Collier Mosquito Control District

House Bill 509 aims to revise the boundaries of the Collier Mosquito Control District.
The special district is responsible for cutting down on local mosquito populations, though this bill would expand its boundaries and allow it to service a broader area.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on Oct. 1.

HB 691 — Town of Horseshoe Beach

House Bill 691 aims to provide exceptions for the quota limitation of “quota licenses” for certain restaurants in the town of Horseshoe Beach.
The bill is expected to increase revenues for local businesses in Horseshoe Beach, according to Legislative analysts.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect immediately.

HB 793 — Coral Springs Improvement District

House Bill 793 aims to address the Coral Springs Improvement District, which develops and operates water and sewer systems in Broward County.
This bill would revise certain purchasing and contract requirements for the special district, such as requiring the district to public bid notices, increasing the threshold for competitive bidding, and clarifying that the district must accept the bid of the lowest responsible bidder (unless it’s in the district’s best interest to reject all bids).
If signed into law, the bill would take effect immediately.

HB 819 — Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District

House Bill 819 aims to address the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, which is responsible for public infrastructure in parts of Lee and Hendry counties.
This bill would expand the boundaries of the special district, which is expected to increase revenues for the district.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on Oct. 1

HB 867 — North River Ranch Improvement Stewardship District

House Bill 867 aims to address the North River Ranch Improvement Stewardship District in Manatee County, which is responsible for overseeing community development.
This bill would revise the boundaries of the special district, ultimately adding over 100 acres to it. The changes are estimated to raise an extra $500,000 for the district.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect immediately.

HB 1023 — St. Lucie County

House Bill 1023 aims to amend health care policies for inmates at the St. Lucie County detention center.
Under this bill, health care providers who provide medical services to these inmates may only be compensated for up to 110% of the Medicare reimbursement rate if the provider doesn’t have a contract with the county.
In addition, such compensation would be limited to 125% of the Medicare reimbursement rate if the hospital reported a negative operating margin in the prior year.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect immediately.

HB 1025 — Municipal Service District of Ponte Vedra Beach

House Bill 1025 aims to address the Municipal Service District of Ponte Vedra Beach in St. Johns County, which is responsible for providing certain community services.
Under this bill, term limits for Trustees would receive a lifetime limit of 12 years.
In addition, the bill would increase the threshold for capital projects that require voter approval.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on Oct. 1.

HB 1133 — Vulnerable Road Users

House Bill 1133 aims to amend state statutes regarding traffic infractions involving “vulnerable road users.”
Under state law, “vulnerable road users” are defined as one of the following:
Pedestrian, including a person actually engaged in work upon a highway, or in work upon utility facilities along a highway, or engaged in the provision of emergency services within the right-of-way
Person operating a bicycle, an electric bicycle, a motorcycle, a scooter, or a moped lawfully on the roadway;
Person riding an animal; or
Person lawfully operating on a public right-of-way, crosswalk, or shoulder of the roadway any: farm tractor or similar vehicle designed primarily for farm use; skateboard, roller skates, or in-line skates; horse-drawn carriage; electric personal assistive mobility device; or wheelchair.
S. 316.027 (1)normal HB 1133 would set up specific penalties for anyone who commits a non-criminal traffic infraction that seriously injures or kills a vulnerable road user.
Those penalties include fines, suspension of driver’s licenses, and the requirement to complete a driver improvement course.
These are in addition to any other criminal charges that could arise from such incidents.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on July 1.

HB 1305 — Security Deposits

House Bill 1305 aims to amend the state’s Residential Landlord and Tenant Act following a recent case out of Palm Beach County.
According to Seeking Rents, the case involved two tenants who sued their former apartment complex after it failed to return a $500 security deposit.
Under state law, security deposits have to be held in a “Florida banking institution,” and the complex had kept the tenants’ deposits in an account with JP Morgan Chase — a national bank headquartered in New York.
Legislative analysts said that the definition of “Florida banking institution” used by plaintiffs in that case have since been repealed, but because the Act doesn’t define that term, it opens up the possibility of similar lawsuits in the future, which could deter developers from investing in more rental housing that would drop prices.
As a result, HB 1305 adds the following definition for “Florida banking institution” to the Act:
A bank, credit union, trust company, savings bank, or savings or thrift association doing business under the authority of a charter issued by the United States, this state, or any other state which is authorized to transact business in this state and whose deposits or share accounts are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund
House Bill 1305normal If signed into law, the bill would go into effect immediately.

HB 1567 — Emergency Management Directors

House Bill 1567 aims to create requirements to qualify for Emergency Management Directors in the state.
Under the State Emergency Management Act, each county is required to have a director for its respective emergency management agency.
These directors are appointed by local leaders, though there are no specific minimum qualifications to serve as one.
As such, this bill seeks to establish minimum education, experience and training requirements to qualify for a director position. These standards include holding a bachelor’s degree, having at least four years of similar experience in another role, and completing 150 hours of emergency management training.
If HB 1567 is approved, existing county emergency management directors will have until June 30, 2026 to meet the new criteria.
If signed into law, the bill would go into effect on July 1.

HB 5401 — New Judgeships

House Bill 5401 aims to establish a few new judge positions in Florida.
According to Legislative analysts, the state’s Supreme Court issued an order in November detailing the need for the new positions.
As a result, this bill would set up the following:
A circuit court judgeship in the First Judicial Circuit (Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton counties)
A circuit court judgeship in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit (Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties)
A county court judgeship in Columbia County
A county court judgeship in Santa Rosa County
Two county court judgeships in Hillsborough County
Three new county court judgeships in Orange County
If signed into law, the bill would go into effect on July 1.

SB 92 — Yacht and Ship Brokers’ Act

Senate Bill 92 aims to revise state regulations of yacht and ship brokers/salespeople.
Under this bill, such brokers wouldn’t be required to hold a license in Florida if they primarily operate as a broker in another state and buy a yacht from someone in Florida who is licensed.
If signed into law, the bill would go into effect on Oct. 1.

SB 328 — Affordable Housing

Senate Bill 328 aims to amend parts of the Live Local Act.
Some of those changes are as follows:
Preempting local governments’ “floor area ratio” for certain developments
Prohibiting qualifying developments within 1/4-mile of a military installation from using the Act’s administrative approval process
Exempting certain airport-impacted areas from the Act’s provisions
Modifying parking reduction requirements for qualifying developments located near certain transportation facilities
Requiring local governments to publish policies on their websites about the procedures and expectations for approval of qualifying developments
Clarifying that only the affordable units in a qualifying development must be rental units
For ad valorem tax exemptions on newly constructed multifamily developments, the bill would require 10 units — rather than 70 — be set aside for income-limited households in the Florida Keys to qualify for the exemption.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect immediately.

SB 382 — Continuing Education Requirements

Senate Bill 382 aims to revise requirements for licensure by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Under this bill, someone trying to renew their license with the DBPR and who has held their license for at least 10 years is exempted from being required to complete continuing education — so long as there is no disciplinary action imposed on the license.
However, this rule would not apply to engineers, CPAs, brokers, broker associates, sales associates, real estate appraisers, architects or interior designers.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on July 1.

SB 892 — Dental Insurance Claims

Senate Bill 892 aims to revise parts of the Florida Insurance Code related to covered dental services.
Under this bill, insurers would be prohibited from denying claim payments if a dental procedure was authorized by an insurer before taking place, with few exceptions.
In addition, the bill seeks to make other changes, like requiring insurers to receive written consent from dentists prior to employing claim payments via credit cards, and prohibiting insurers from charging dentists a fee when paying a claim through an automatic clearinghouse.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

SB 994 — Student Transportation Safety

Senate Bill 994 aims to revise state statutes related to camera enforcement of traffic infractions where a driver passes a stopped school bus.
More specifically, the bill would make the following changes:
Manufacturers of school bus infraction detectors may receive a fixed amount of collected proceeds for services rendered regarding those detectors.
Required signage on school buses with these detectors must be revised.
Funds collected from related civil penalties are allocated to the respective school district to pay for the detector program and other student transportation safety enhancements.
The collection of evidence from such a detector doesn’t constitute remote surveillance.
The use of video and images on these detection systems are limited to their specific purpose.
Certain traffic fines are remitted to the respective school district.
If signed into law, the bill would take effect immediately.

Slowly converting a Schwinn stingray chopper
Bought the bike for 100$. Slowly going through upgrades. Converted rear rim brakes to disc brakes.
Used old radrunner parts (motor, battery, controller) Just installed a light kit that is custom fitted to work with rad controllers. Upgraded seatpost and seat for my height and comfort. (Kept it as a Schwinn branded seat)
Eventually want to swap front forks out to have front disc brakes. Want to install a gas tank style battery on top.
Possibly swap the front wheel to 20x4 as well for the bobber style bike. Eventually want to find or have custom made a storage bag for the center area.

My affronts to the cycling deities
Abstract/TL;DR: I build bikes with low-quality frames but nice parts 👍
I am a bike mechanic and a rider. I say it in that order because I'm not a particularly-great cyclist, but I love working on bikes!
My "thing" is buying cheap and arguably-bad bicycles, and sinking many times' worth their value in parts into them. I get to build bikes, enjoy parts sourcing and assembly, and ride knowing I may never be outclassed by my bike 😂
I present: my bikes, or the reasons my mechanic friends roast me every time I see them!
  1. That's a Canadian Tire Schwinn Volare 1300 - with full Shimano 105 5800 kit and Dura-Ace carbon tubular wheels 😵‍💫 My first road bike 🥰 (it did not start like this!)
  2. I built this one from a clearance Walmart gravel bike that had an awful beige/orange scheme. I had the frame stripped, powdercoated, and decalled using graphics I designed. I patterned it after the Tamiya Striker RC car, and fitted new parts to turn it from a 1x9 into a 2x11.
  3. Overseas carbon frame, with full Ultegra R8000 (just to get the feel of high-end bike parts) and self-built wheels. One bike salesperson who got to ride it described it as "very stiff," so maybe it ended up being half-decent? A fast bike, but not for very long - it was pretty uncomfortable on longer rides 😅
Someone saw my Schwinn and said it was "like putting a Honda Civic engine in a Corvette" - though I think it's the other way around!

2024.04.28 20:12 VaDOT Survey Seeks Input on I-64 / 5th Street interchange

Reconstruction seeks to improve safety, traffic movement, pedestrian and bicycle access
Take the survey and provide your feedback: https://publicinput.com/5thstreetinterchange
The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a proposal to modify the Interstate 64 interchange at 5th Street (exit 120) in Albemarle County.
A study is now under way to identify project recommendations for the existing tight diamond interchange south of Charlottesville. The study's goals are to reduce congestion, address the high crash volumes on 5th Street through the interchange and on the eastbound off ramp from I-64, and provide facilities for bicycles and pedestrians on 5th Street through the interchange.
Information about the interchange, including a rendering of one proposal to reconstruct the interchange as a diverging diamond, is on the study webpage: https://www.vdot.virginia.gov/projects/culpeper-district/i-64-at-5th-street-exit-120-interchange-study-albemarle-county/
Traffic volumes have increased significantly for the movement exiting eastbound I-64 and turning left onto 5th Street, causing queueing along the ramp and leading to a high number of rear-end crashes. There are also a high number of rear-end and angle crashes along 5th Street in both directions, due to the congestion along the corridor and the number of crossing conflicts at each signalized ramp terminal. In addition, there is a growing amount of bicycle and pedestrian facilities on 5th Street — both north and south of the interchange — without a connection across the interstate.
The study is focusing on improving the interchange operations, safety and enhancing multimodal accessibility and connectivity for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users. The project recommendations will be developed into funding applications for SMART SCALE Round 6 and other transportation funding programs.
A survey to collect public comments on possible improvements to the interchange is now live at https://publicinput.com/5thstreetinterchange. Comments can also be sent to [charles.proctor@vdot.virginia.gov](mailto:charles.proctor@vdot.virginia.gov) or by postal mail to Charles Proctor, Virginia Department of Transportation, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA, 22701. T
This study is expected to be complete in summer 2024; it does not set construction dates for any improvements. The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding through programs including SMART SCALE, revenue sharing, interstate funding, and others.

2024.04.18 23:44 PyroIsSpai The Piedmont Lights UFO event of 1973. Very obscure... until the Military made a mistake. Marley, or Marleys Woods.

Background on the UAP hotspot

I had never heard of this, and searches on /UFOs show up virtually nothing of note. The internet is thin on information beyond generic Local News type "UFOs in Missouri!" type stuff. It is alternately variations on Marley Wood, Marley Woods, Marleys, and similar. It's not a name on a map or official, that's a nickname for some forested rural area somewhere around the Piedmont, Missouri area. Apparently the locals are very protective of it, and it is apparently a decades long ongoing UFO/UAP hotspot of even government interest, on the record.

Skinwalker Ranch and the UAPDA are related

But... in the past few weeks I remembered that place, Marley Wood, was highlighted by some government disclosure in an obscure passage as a place of continued interest and focus because of legitimately anomalous ongoing events, along with what sounded like Skinwalker Ranch. This was the first time I think we've seen officially government documentation highlight a given place as legitimately of value to the topic for their purposes.
I got to thinking about how Brandon Fugal, who bought Skinwalker Ranch from Robert Bigelowe, who was responsible for NIDs and KONA BLUE... worked reportedly with Travis Taylor to kill off the UAPDA. Whatever your thoughts on Skinwalker stuff, why exactly would an already extremely rich Utah real estate developer with a supposed "bullshit" paranormal ranch and TV show... fight like hell to keep the UAPDA from passing? And specifically, he called out the eminent domain portion, implying things of his would be taken, and would be wrong for that to happen.
Brandon Fugal has no aerospace, military, or IC role that we know of. What, exactly, would UAPDA passing lead to him having to worry about eminent domain?

Skinwalker and UAPDA rough tlimeline

Well, that document that mentioned an eponymous Utah ranch of some sort and "Marleys" (sic) Woods in Missouri were called out as of interest.
Was the government looking into eminent domain against Brandon Fugal and Skinwalker Ranch?
I believe that is the first loosely closed loop of evidence we have in public?

Marley Woods

Good solid high level blog on this:
The Marley Woods is the name given to an undisclosed location in South Central Missouri by ufologist and scientific researcher Ted Phillips and members of his team. The residents don’t want to be disturbed by hordes of people, so they would only agree to having the site investigated if the location was kept secret. The site, which includes many farms and hundreds of acres of property, is a hot spot for paranormal activity with UFO sightings, crop circles, unseen forces that push people, hauntings, and even bigfoot sightings. It was given the name Marley Woods by Ted, but you won’t find it on a map.
One of the most misunderstood phenomena in this area are the strange balls of lights- or spook lights that appear after dusk. The lights have been reported by residents for many generations. In 1989 children playing on a trampoline were startled when they saw a glowing white ball of light that hovered in a nearby tree. The tree died within two weeks.
A man and wife who live in the area saw two balls of light approximately the size of basketballs on a fast collision course. The man threw himself and his wife to the ground, believing that there would be some type of explosion, but nothing occurred, and the lights simply dissipated after crashing into each other.
Ted and his team have witnessed strange unexplained lights dozens of times during night investigations. No source can ever be found for the phenomena and they ruled out car lights, helicopters, swamp gas, and flashlights. The lights continue to spook people to this day.
The Piedmont Lights have been seen in the area since the 1870s. Marilyn Jackson was age 93 at the time I interviewed her in 1996. She was fully cognizant and said that when she was a young child baseball sized white lights would come out of the woods at night, and she and her cousins would actually play with them. The children held out their hands and the lights would come forward and land on their palms. The kids then tossed the lights back into the woods, and they would return to the children. Marilyn said that she would often play with the lights for hours on end. The entire family, including her mother and grandmother said they played with the lights as children as well. The family associated the lights with UFO’s which sometimes appeared over their property.
Spacetime forum and photo:
At Approximately 8:45 p.m. on Saturday May 3rd, SIU Investigator, Adam Johnson, accompanied by filmmakers/brothers Josh and Ron Johnson, and four residents of the “Marley Woods,” were able to witness a brilliant display of ‘Amber lights’. A total of 7-8 silent ‘Amber lights’ were witnessed. It began with one light appearing then suddenly blinking out after about 2-3 seconds. Next, another ‘Amber light’ appeared (approximately 500 feet east from the first object); it lasted a few seconds and was followed instantly by a light extremely close to the west and yet again by another light parallel to its position and within very close proximity (reminiscent of the ‘Phoenix Lights’.) After that, a light came on directly southwest of the other two lights position. They all lasted a few seconds and then disappeared. Approximately 5 minutes later, two more objects appeared subsequently after each other and lasted no longer than 10 seconds each.
On May 5, 2008 just two nights after SIU team members observed and imaged several large bright amber objects the following events took place.

MUFON Report

Piedmont Missouri Case - 1973
Starting in February 1973 police in Piedmont, Mo., received over 500 reports of UFO sightings in this rural area.
"YOU WON'T believe this," Reggie Bone told a FATE reporter, "but I don't think there's anyone around here who hasn't seen one."
Bone should know because his sighting on the night of February 21, 1973, precipitated the great Brushy Creek UFO scare and brought flying saucers back into the headlines four years after the Condon Committee declared them a dead issue. In sheer quantity of reports the Missouri flap parallels the famous waves of the mid-1960's. UFOS, whatever they are, probably are going to be as significant a part of the '70's.
The Incident (as reported)
Southeastern Missouri seems an unlikely place for something so out of the ordinary. In a heavily-forested section of Wayne County between two giant man-made lakes in the eastern Ozarks, Clearwater and Wappapello, the Brushy Creek area encompasses Piedmont (population 1500) to the north and Mill Spring (population 225) to the south. The region is rich in both natural beauty and lead deposits but is not known for much else. Certainly its friendly but skeptical inhabitants were unprepared for a UFO invasion or the international attention following in its wake.
High school basketball coach Bone was no believer in UFOs -- at least not before the night of February 21 when with two team managers and three of his players he was returning home along U.S. Highway 60 near Ellsinore, Mo., about 20 miles south of Piedmont. They were in poor spirits after losing a crucial tournament game by seven points and were rehashing their defeat. Suddenly Bone, who was driving, noticed a "bright shaft of light beaming down out of the sky."
A few miles later as the car passed through the Brushy Creek area, player Randal Holmes noticed something else. "Look!" he shouted. "There's that thing we saw back on Highway 60!" Bone pulled over to the side of the road and the six piled out.
It looked like it was about 200 yards off the road hovering over an open field," Bone said later. (Investigators from the International UFO Bureau (IUFOB) of Oklahoma City later estimated the object probably was about 400 feet above the ground.) "It was impossible to determine the size or shape because of the darkness. Anyway, we saw four lights that looked like portholes: red, green, amber and white. We figured they were about three or four feet apart, all in a row."
"We just stood there and watched it for about 10 minutes," Cary Barks, another witness, added. "Then all of a sudden the lights went directly up in the air with absolutely no noise and just disappeared over a hill.
Half an hour later Mrs. Edith Boatwright of nearby Mill Spring saw the same or a similar object flying low near her farmhouse. "It was about 10:00 P.M.," she told FATE. "I was lying on my bed -- I wasn't asleep -- when I saw a flashing light. We live close by the highway so I thought something had happened on the road. I got out of bed quickly and looked over the lower part of the curtain and I could see very plainly a craft just clearing the utility wires. It was in a horizontal position. I think there were people in it. I could see objects inside but could not make out any form of a person. It made a very quiet noise like a whoosh slowly and evenly. When it changed into a vertical position, it made a louder noise, like a quiet motor pulling.
"It didn't have any chopper blades on top like a helicopter, just some rotary-like blades in front where an umbrella-like part extended up. It was about 30 or more feet long -- very beautiful light-colored body with a darker tail. There were no lights on in our house at the time. I watched it for about one or two minutes. It was about 200 or 250 yards from my window, flying below the oak treetops."
At first Mrs. Boatwright thought the object was "some kind of new nuclear-powered helicopter" but changed her mind in the next few days when she heard about the flood of UFO sightings. It is worth noting, however, that the "whooshing" sound Mrs. Boatwright reported was not heard by other southeastern Missouri UFO witnesses. Conceivably helicopter blades could have made that sound and IUFOB's Daniel Garcia who interviewed the witness believes it is at least possible that the object was a military aircraft dispatched to the area to look for Bone's UFO. Arguing against this idea is the fact that the craft as described by Mrs. Boatwright did not look like a helicopter.
Whatever the case, in the next two months the Boatwrights' farm was to play host to other UFOs including one that apparently landed on a hill behind the house. "We didn't try to go near it as we had company coming at the time," Mrs. Boatwright explains.
On February 22, the night after the original Bone-Boatwright sightings. Roy and Beth Burch and Mrs. Kathy Keith, driving in the Brushy Creek area, spotted an object "blinking green, white, amber and red." Burch tried to chase the UFO along the highway.
"Roy started speeding up to get a close look at it," Mrs. Keith said. "He was doing about 70 miles an hour but we still lost it. We got to the Creek area and there were some other Piedmont people standing on the road looking at it."
One of them, Bob Smith, had binoculars focused on the UFO but he could not make out any shape. The lights were visible for 10 minutes longer and then sank over a hill.
Four nights later, on the 26th, Pat Toney and Will Freeman watched a luminous object moving over the trees near the Tip Top Mountains. The UFO about 500 yards away "was solid with prongs on it," Miss Toney informed the IUFOB. "A red light was on it."
By far the great majority of sightings in the Piedmont-Brushy Creek-Mill Spring area were the kind UFOlogists call "nocturnal lights" -- brilliant flashing lights far enough away that witnesses cannot discern their source.
From February 21 into late April sightings occurred almost nightly. The Piedmont police received over 500 reports and IUFOB director Hayden Hewes told FATE he and his associates, who conducted a detailed investigation, interviewed 200 witnesses. Most of the sightings were fairly routine as UFO reports go and not very revealing. We will concentrate on the more unusual sightings.
Most residents saw the UFOs more than once. Even so, Earl Turnbough's experience was unique for he had three unusually vivid sightings of more than just lights. His first encounter took place around 9:00 P.M. about the first of March. Turnbough had just passed over a hill on Highway 49 when he spotted something "lit up like a circus" hovering over the road in front of him. The lights went out within seconds and presumably the object escaped in the darkness.
Two weeks later on March 14 as Turnbough drove through the same area in a thunderstorm he saw an amber light hovering 30 feet above a field less than 200 yards from him.
"I slowed down and watched for five or 10 minutes," Turnbough said. "When the lightning flashed I could see a dome-shape with sort of an antenna at the top. This amber light was shining from the antenna. All the other lights were off. I would say the thing was between 15 and 20 feet in diameter. It wasn't making any noise at all."
He saw a UFO for the third time a week later. "I was feeding cattle at the farm just about dark and I saw this thing come down over Brushy Creek," he explained. "It was about a thousand feet in the air and shaped like a top. I couldn't tell if it was rotating or if the lights were just flashing. The lights were yellow, green and red. They could've been portholes for all I know. The object sailed over the farm and didn't make a sound."
March 14, the same night as Turnbough's second sighting, Mrs. Maude Jefferis, a photography teacher at Piedmont's Clearwater High School, took a series of pictures of "a small reddish ball" high in the air. She spotted the object around 11 o'clock and mounting a Crown Graphic 4x5 camera on a tripod, she took a 10-minute time exposure which unfortunately shows little more than a dot in the night sky.
"As a professional photographer," she said, "I cannot explain the object. It is not a lens flare or light reflection."
Mrs. Jefferis is referring to a theory proposed by Dr. J. Allen Hynek of Northwestern University, former U. S. Air Force UFO consultant, who arrived in Piedmont on March 31, talked briefly with eight persons and left 24 hours later. Hynek's suggested explanation also has been disputed by photographic experts at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, who say that a lens flare would be widespread over the entire negative rather than a small speck. They further point out that the lens in Mrs. Jefferis' camera is coated to prevent flares.
That same evening Carl Laxton saw an object shaped, he told IUFOB, "like a barrel with protrusions like arms sticking out of it . . .
"The only way I could see the shape of this thing was when the object seemed to tilt; a brilliant white light appeared to go behind it. The object was tilting from a vertical to a horizontal position and then back to a vertical position again. Then it moved straight up and disappeared into the night sky."
Seven days later, on March 21, Mrs. Jean Coleman and Mrs. Cathy Leach were crossing the Clearwater Dam about 9:00 P.M. when they saw an object rise out of the lake. Theirs is one of the most spectacular sightings reported.
They were first alerted by a "red flash" on the lake. Stopping their car, they got out to see blinking lights ascending. Each time a red light flashed, the object got brighter.
"We could see it climbing," Mrs. Coleman said. "It looked like the lights were red, white and yellow. There was no sound. We tried to make out the shape but each time the lights went out we could see nothing . . . We watched it for four or live minutes until it circled out of sight."
Ken Johnson, owner of the Piedmont Boat Dock, confirmed the women's story. Shortly be- fore they saw the UFO leaving the water, unnamed campers told Johnson they had seen a "bright light moving right under the surface of the lake." These latter "aimed a flashlight beam at the traveling light and it went out immediately."
Later in March two divers from the East Side Divers Supply Company of Granite City, Ill., made three attempts to explore the lake for evidence of the underwater UFO. Unfortunately, unusually heavy spring rainfall (seven inches in March) had raised the water level 30 feet above normal. The lake was extremely murky and the divers found nothing in its depths.
Grand Tower, Ill., on the Illinois-Missouri border, is almost 60 miles northeast of Piedmont but the UFO Oscar Wills sighted the evening of March 22 sounds very much like those from Brushy Creek.
Wills, an operating engineer at the Central Illinois Public Service Company's power generating station on the Mississippi one and a half miles from Grand Tower, first saw the object when fellow-employee, Willis Hughes called from his home to say something was hovering over the transformer yard.
"I went out by myself to take a look," Wills recounted in an interview with FATE, "and there it was, hovering about 1500 feet in the air and about 200 yards from me.
"It was a round saucer-shaped object about 25 to 30 feet in diameter. It looked like a high-intensity red light with a lot of lights coming out of what seemed to be portholes. The lights were flashing and causing a spinning effect. I couldn't see any image of its bottom, which may have been concave, I'm not sure. I kept walking and got to within 100 yards of it. I looked at it for two or three minutes until it darted behind the power plant almost like a blur. I went north of the power plant to see where it had gone and found it hovering over a water intake pump on the other side of the station. I stood there for a couple of minutes and watched it."
Wills' vigil was interrupted by a phone call from another employee (not Hughes) who wanted to know what was going on. By the time Wills got off the phone and enlisted two other men to go outside with him the UFO was gone.
Wills then called Hughes who informed him the object had flown across the river and disappeared into the Missouri hills. Within minutes, however, Wills and his crew saw four jet planes making passes over the plant area as if searching.
"The most amazing part," Wills says, " is the way this object moved rapidly with no effort and perfectly silently. I just can't get over that. I don't know what it was but I know this much: we don't have anything like this. "
Wills claimed that a nearly identical object appeared over Grand Tower nearly a month later, on the evening of April 16.
On the night of Wills' first encounter, March 22, back in Piedmont newsman Dennis Kenney of local radio station KPWB saw "a big orange light, glowing from white to orange. it appeared to just go out and then would come back on." Gary Sutton, who was with him, snapped eight pictures of it with a 35mm Petri camera loaded with black-and-white infrared film. These photographs show a ball-shaped object with a bright glowing band across its midsection. This sighting took place at 7:30 P.M.
Three hours earlier, at 4:30, a UFO had made a rare daytime appearance. Joe King of Mill Spring and Ron Miller of Piedmont, both students at Southeast Missouri State University (Cape Girardeau), were traveling along Highway 34 near Patterson (eight miles east of Piedmont) when they noticed an oval-shaped object above the nearby treetops. The UFO, "metallic" in appearance, flat on the bottom with a dome on the top, was moving rapidly and leaving no vapor trail.
The following evening, Friday, March 23, Leonard Adams and his 13-year-old daughter Alma of Piedmont encountered a "high-intensity, bright white light" at 7:10.
"It blinked on and off," Alma recounted, "and every time it blinked it shot up 10 feet. When it got about 300 to 500 feet in the air red and green lights came on and then the object flew horizontally.
"Actually the red and green lights were very dull in comparison with the white light, which was so intense that our eyes couldn't adjust to it. The light was almost blinding. The farther away the object got, the better you could see the other lights."
The UFO passed over radio station KPWB, which was not on the air at the time. The next morning the station was unable to sign on because one of its transformers had blown out. Hayden Hewes of IUFOB believes the Adamses' UFO may. have had something to do with the malfunction but the station's news director Dennis Hovis, who has conducted his own exhaustive probe into the Brushy Creek flap, disagrees. "It could have been from any number of causes," he says.
FATE could not confirm any reports of so-called electromagnetic effects but Hovis assured us that some local residents told him of radio and television interference when a UFO was close by. "These people say that when the TV starts rolling and reception gets bad, they can go outside and see a flying object," Hovis says, adding that some witnesses have heard sounds from the objects -- "a sort of high-speed drilling sound."
Among other reports Hovis has collected is one from a Patterson farm family who heard a high-pitched drilling sound which began around 10 o'clock in the evening all during April. Sometimes it was so loud it shook their house. Too frightened to go outside, they had not, at the time of this writing, discovered its cause. Hovis refuses to release their names to us, explaining that the family in question gave the story to him in confidence.
The single most important UFO sighting occurred on April 3 in the daylight. It involved a landing of sorts and provided some physical evidence.
Mrs. Raymond Stucker of Ellsinore traveling down Highway 60 at about noon "saw this thing in the air off to the side of the road," she told IUFOB investigators. ". . . It looked like something I never saw before. It was round, with the exception of a dome on top . . . three . . . one on top of the other. (*Hewes explains that this means the object had three Pyramiding domes on top, each one smaller than the one below It.) It appeared to have a dull band or something going around the center. The bottom had something like a tripod landing gear.
"The object was hovering just above treetop level off to the right of the road . . . There is a possibility that it came up from the ground and stopped right above the trees."
She said the UFO was silent and appeared to be made of aluminum.
Two days later Mrs. Stucker led IUFOB officials to the area where they found trees in a 35- foot circle turned counter-clockwise with some of their tips broken off. Geiger counters failed to pick up any unusual radiation but they found a mysterious "ash" near the tops of the trees although there was no evidence the trees had burned.
On Friday, April 13, newsman Hovis and a physicist from Southeast Missouri State University (who has asked not to be identified) made four sightings in the space of three and a half hours. The skeptical scientist had come from Cape Girardeau to see the UFOs for himself and he was not disappointed.
Hovis and the physicist had set up a telescope with a degree-finder on the side in an area near Black River seven miles south-east of Piedmont. At 7:18 P.M. the men saw what Hovis calls "a light -- no visible body or object attached to it -- white in color with some yellow." It was moving from north to south at a 10-degree angle off the horizon. The unnamed physicist speculated it might be a satellite.
At 7:28 a similar light appeared, moving in the same direction, five degrees off the horizon.
This time the scientist suggested that the booster had followed the satellite into orbit.
But by 9:30 when the third object cruised across the sky the man's faith in satellites was shaken. This object was traveling south to north, 10 degrees off the horizon and for a brief period it flew toward the witnesses before resuming its northbound course. A fourth UFO, heading from north to south at 10 degrees off the horizon, passed by at 10:45, leaving behind a deeply perplexed scientist.
While no one has reported seeing UFO occupants Reggie Bone does have a strange story to relate of something he, his wife and two other couples saw around Christmastime in 1971 when they were driving down a little-traveled road in a deserted section of the Brushy Creek area. The time was about 2:00 A.M. "Suddenly," Bone says, "we saw this fellow walking up the road toward us in a frogman's outfit. He was wearing flippers or something resembling them on his feet and he was carrying something in his hands.
"We couldn't see very well -- visibility was poor -- so we couldn't see his face but his body was completely covered. The suit didn't look wet. Black River is about a quarter-mile away from the road but it's rather inaccessible from the point where we ran into this figure.
"The temperature was well below freezing and I don't know of anyone who lives in that area. We were so taken aback that nobody even said anything for several miles. Finally somebody asked, 'Did you see that?'"
Bone, with Hovis, has carefully studied the local UFO situation and does not necessarily connect the figure with the mysterious aerial phenomena but he does admit that the recent sightings recalled the earlier incident to his mind. He says he and Hovis found that UFOs have been seen regularly in the more remote sections of Brushy Creek since 1967.
To the UFOlogist, Bone's 1971 encounter is reminiscent of numerous landing reports that include beings dressed in what witnesses almost invariably describe as "diving suits." A more mundane explanation for this incident may exist but the story deserves being recorded here for whatever it may be worth. Dennis Hovis offers the only possible commentary on Brushy Creek's flying saucer onslaught: "I don't know what we're seeing but I do know we're seeing something. It's not swamp gas and it's not satellites either. On the other hand, I can't say they're aliens -- I'm just a newsman, not a scientist.
"All I'll say is this, this is some kind of aerial phenomenon. It's simply unexplainable. From the reading I've done lately, I guess that these things always have been around and no one anywhere has ever been able to explain them."

Missing conversation

I cannot find the conversation now on /UFOs where I saw the mention of the ranch and Marleys Woods. I would appreciate that if you know, you can link it, so that I can update this post.
The gist of the discussion was people going through a very recent documents release, and someone very particularly noted the intersection of these places. I thought I had commented there, but apparently not.

2024.04.16 22:57 HannoPicardVI Following the demise of Ubisoft's The Crew, a new publisher-developer confirms it has signed a "huge advertising deal" with Rockstar, Inc and PepsiCo to advertise brands in "Tycoon Simulator", an open world game set in "Califlorida", a condensed map of Texas, California and Florida

Centauri Dreams Gaming, the developer and publisher behind the recently-announced "Tycoon Simulator", has confirmed it has signed "multiple advertising deals" with the following companies: energy drinks company Rockstar, Inc and its parent company, beverages giant PepsiCo; The McDonald's Corporation; Nike, Inc, Under Armour, Inc and Ford Motor Co (US).
Centauri Dreams Gaming confirmed the huge news in a recent statement to the media, on its website blog and on its official Twitter account.
Following the recent demise of Ubisoft's The Crew, Tycoon Simulator comes at an interesting time, especially given its huge map and the actual content in the game.
Basically, Tycoon Simulator is no normal game. Scheduled for release on PC, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X in April 2025, it is not just a strategy game, but also doubles up as an actual open world life simulator with a huge campaign story and a world of activities.
Set in the year 2042 in the fictional US megastate of "Califlorida" (a condensed map of Texas, California and Florida), the game's sprawling map size is 26,500 km2 (that's more than 3 and a half times larger than the maps of The Crew and The Crew 2 and over 350 times larger than the maps of GTA V and RDR2).
In the game's campaign story, players can either follow the story of Tyler Phelps Jr - a young entrepreneur whose businessman grandfather dies suddenly and leaves him some money on the condition that that he grows the existing business - or Sophie Tanner - a "rich kid" born into a wealthy US business family who decides to "go it alone" and compete with her family.
But wait, you say, it's called "Tycoon Simulator", why does it have an enormous map and will it just be a boring strategy game that I'll get bored of really quickly?
No, Tycoon Simulator is 3 parts Hollywood, 2 parts drama, 2 parts strategy, 5 parts exploration and 4 parts entertainment or something like that. A tentative ESRB rating in the USA and Canada puts it at "Everyone 10+", yet in Europe and the UK, it's "PEGI 16". Australia and Germany have it at "M" and "USK 12" respectively.
You see, Tycoon Simulator isn't a top-down game or a game where you'll spend time just looking at charts or building a city. It's a fully open world game where you can explore on the ground, complete the story campaign and build out your business empire. You can be hands-on, hire associates and manage your empire from afar.
Playing as either Tyler or Sophie, you start out in the fictional city of Dorado Valley and its expansive sprawl and mountains. Dorado Valley appears to be an enormous amalgamation of Greater Los Angeles CA, Orange County CA, Galveston TX, Miami-Dade County FL and Douglas County NE.
Upon seeing the gameplay, you may be taken aback by the freedom in the game and double-check the title, but Tycoon Simulator also doubles up as a life sim. There's entertainmemt and leisure activities available, danger and crime (much like you may encounter in any major city) and tons of things to buy. Players can purchase many personal items, houses and cars (US automobile giant Ford has actually paid an undisclosed amount to have some of its vehicles overtly advertised in the game and featured: for instance, the F350 King Ranch is a favorite in the game and one of Tyler's owned personal vehicles following the inheritance).
As players get richer, they can get bigger and better properties or expand existing ones e.g. build a race circuit on their property, pay for renovations on their mansion or mansions, install a pleasure pool or underground cinema, build a "super mancave" and even start to "live like an Arab prince or a Hollywood movie star".
Tyler's story starts out during an argument with his girlfriend in their downtown apartment which is interrupted by a visit from a couple of attorneys apparently executing his late grandfather's will (an individual who Tyler had never even met). Shocked and needing some time to process the news, Tyler goes to meet his cousin Brogan - who is a Dorado Valley PD cop - during his lunch break. Part of the gameplay trailer shows this and teases what players can expect: a non-linear open world game with a story mode and unrestricted first and third person gameplay with cutscenes and cinematics.
As the game goes on, Tyler can build new businesses, strengthen existing networks or build new ones and acquire or sell off assets or businesses if he wishes. He also has business management software at his disposal and can hire "associates" to "assist" him.
Whilst trying to adhere to the conditions of his grandfather's will, Tyler stumbles upon secrets swept under the rug and a conspiracy which takes him across Califlorida, through the large and sprawling cities and towns, highways and open country roads as he meets strange and unknown individuals and groups, trying to piece together mysteries he uncovers along the way. His business dealings also sometimes see him encounter competition and trouble which goes beyond the courtroom and boardroom and a lot of drama involving private detectives, investigative journalists, animal rights and environmental activists and unorthodox businessmen.
Playing as Tyler, players can also set up shop in Star City - a larger-scale version of Las Vegas, Nevada - but ventures are more risky out there.
Because the map is so large, apart from driving, Tyler can also fly or be flown as a passenger and based on the enormous map of Califlorida seen in the trailer (thanks to viewers watching the trailer at 0.25x speed on YouTube), there appears to be "at least" 8 large international airports, 6 regional airports, 10 airfields or airstrips and 18 heliports. Some of these can actually be invested in or bought by Tyler. An early mission features the Carlton Jetport, an ageing private airport 40 miles east of Valle Dorado. Tyler is asked by an oil investor, a "dodgy" property developer and a local politician to buy the airport, renovate it and keep it open, but Tyler, cautious and suspicious by nature, decides to investigate further.
Although the game's map isn't quite as large as American Truck Simulator's or Star Citizen's, there is a lot more activity, the graphics and gameplay are far, far ahead and realistic and it's not a driving or racing game; it's pretty much an all-in-one game set in a not-too-distant future.
Part of the trailer also sees Tyler walking into a coffee shop in a city to meet a journalist from "Great Coast City" (in the game's lore, it appears Great Coast City is actually New York City and in postcards, on billboards, newsreels and on newspapers, you sometimes see the Empire State building or Lady Liberty or the outline of the skyline) and you can pretty much do nearly anything in the game.
Tyler can walk around and explore his surroundings with no boundaries if he decides not to drive and multiple activities outside of the main campaign exist. Tyler can workout (and he can see his fitness profile and fitness bars and build or lose muscle), go to restaurants or fast food outlets, clubs and bars, attend festivals or the odd drive-in theater here and there and hang out with friends. He can also go and watch football games, basketball games, baseball or soccer games, rally car events or a local speedway or stunt event.
In terms of background activity and ambience, there is a lot going on across the map. For example, upon first entering Las Palmas - a huge metropolitan sprawl 120 miles west of Valle Dorado with wide boulevards, large lakes and even larger mountains and a massive theme park - via The Ocean Bridge (a 6.7 mile-long cable-stayed bridge with five towers), Tyler passes a huge protest where dozens of protesters are seen holding up placards calling for "Benson" to resign (Benson appears to be the African-American Mayor of Las Palmas who seems to be accused of sexually harassing a number of women as well being at the center of a corruption probe dating back to his time in the city's planning department) and some protesters are actually seen scuffling with cops. Players can just drive past the protest or hop out and walk amongst the throngs of people and watch and hear them chanting and see protesters scuffling with cops and irritated drivers.
Another example of background activity and ambience is when Tyler is in Central City (which appears to be based off of Greater Houston TX, Vancouver BC and Portland OR). As he's walking back to his hotel room after a one-night stand with a local, he stumbles upon a crowd with people screaming and gawking up at Atlantis Tower Two, a 24 storey-tall highrise standing in front of Atlantis Tower One (a 400 meter-tall 92-floor skyscraper). Passersbys have seen a man dangling from the 18th floor and it appears he's threatening to jump. Tyler can just ignore this background acitivity or hang around. As he hangs around, the crowd gets much much bigger, cops turn up and set up a cordon and two news choppers circle the area, with news crews arriving on the ground. On Tyler's phone, players can even tune into news feeds with anchors and reporters reporting on the event and he can watch everything unfold.
These are just many of the goings-on occurring across the map as Tyler goes about his life growing his business empire and enjoying his life as a Califlorida resident.
When Tycoon Simulator is released, it may well be the best game to exist since the beginning of time, but don't worry, you won't need a NASA-grade supercomputer to run it, as it's been optimized for consumer devices (PCs and consoles) and created primarily for the purpose of etertainment tailored for consumers and gamers alike.

2024.04.15 05:59 Umengthecat Sharing my Taiwan's Travel Impression (and some tips)

Just got back from my 3 week travel thru Taiwan (mostly the northern-central side. Anything south of Taichung is too hot for our taste, I've toured southern Taiwan before and it doesn't leave a lasting impression and I felt enough of the earthquake to know that Hualien is probably not a good idea right now).
I will start by saying Taiwan (especially Taipei and New Taipei area) has AMAZING transportation system. Huge salute for what the government did in that part. I still got some hiccups here and there (gmaps not very reliable post 10PM night) but nothing is grating. Their trains are second only to Japan and the bus, while not as intuitive as Singapore, is still very connected and common anywhere even in a middle of nowhere like Emei county. And it's all VERY cheap!
All the best Taiwan experience I got mostly involves a lot of walking and hiking. I can totally reccommend anyone to visit these places, and they're very easy to get to by bus/train too:
For some nice pics:
I'm an Indonesian, so I don't have much to say about Taiwan's food since my tongue is very south-east Asian based. Lots of "must-have" food you see in Tiktok I find is also overrated hyped shit. That being said, there are some very very notable ones:
Some tip and opinion:

2024.04.15 03:25 PracticalLaw952 Streetcars and the A's? Let's not lose our collective minds!

I love the Oakland A! As a child I rode my Schwinn Stingray at the Construction site of the "Oakland Alameda Coliseum Complex".
Yes, I'm old!
My uncle lived in East Oakland near the Complex and I lived in San Francisco. The A's , Raiders and the Giants are in my Blood. I was a late niners fan
I'm saddened by their exodus to Las Vegas. Oakland doesn't have the money to fight for the A's. However, the financing for their new home in Las Vegas isn't a done deal.
Vegas and Clark County have morgaged nearly everything for professional sports. Not uncommon, there are many cities have morgaged schools, libraries and are still trying to recover from a professional franchise that has packed up and left town. One wonders what would have happened to Sacramento after the Sacramento Raiders would have abandoned us for a greener city?
But it seems there are some leaders in Las Vegas asking for a pause, before green lighting millions for the A's. All it would take is a downturn in Vegas's economy, it has happened before.
SO WHAT IF VEGAS SAYS NO TO THE A'S?
How long would it take to build a new deck or two on Sutter Health Ballpark? They could easily build a new park along side the current park. Nothing to tear down.
The Sactown fans will fill the park . In 2023, Sac's metro area was slightly larger the Vegas. Some die hard A's fans will make the drive from the Bay, and the people who live in Sac Metro has more disposable cash. The only wrinkle, is the A's will want concessions $$$$ from the two cities.
We can dream.
Speaking of Dreaming?
Let's not lose our collective minds. Yes the A's will be in Sac for three seasons. Some people are wanting to revive the plans for a Street Car line between West Sac and Midtown
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE?
How many people will ignore the parking lot behind the ballpark to take the street car?
Are there complaints, from patrons saying they are unable to find parking spaces near the park?
RT current ridership is down, as it is for most public transit systems in the country. A causality of workers working from home.
Sac already has a street car and line that doesn't carry 200 riders a day.
BUILD IT AND THEY WILL RIDE!
Public Transit for the most part ,isn't based on build it they might ride.
San Francisco
The 30 Stockton bus is a popular line that begins at the Caltrain Station and Travels through the west side of Chinatown and ends near Ghirardelli Square. Most of the day, the buses frequency is every three minutes. The line uses extended buses and even with the largest buses and frequency the buses are packed with standing room only.
San Francisco, spent a couple billion building a new streetcar line.(The Red 3rd Street Line opened last summer). Most of that expense. came from building a deep tunnel though the east side of Nob Hill. The North Terminus is below Chinatown. The line serves the southeast side of San Francisco. It travesl past, the relatively new UCSF medical center, the new Chase Center, Oracle Park, the Convention center, Union Square, ending in Chinatown.
The new street car line shadows part of the 30 Stockton underground. Relieving pressure from the bus line.
Sacramento
Unlike the San Francisco line. The new street car would not pass new tourist destinations or new large employment centers. The new Streetcar line would partially shadow the Yolo bus routes 40, 41,and 240. Each would stop at the ballpark.
Note: I live downtown and take the Yolo buses to the West Sacramento,Wal Mart and Ikea shopping center. The buses that currently pass the ball park, rarely have more than 10 passengers.
I'm excited about the A's as for a new Street Car line.
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!

They simply said: Black Lives Matter; and for that, they were labelled terrorists. In this empowering account of survival, strength and resilience, Patrisse Khan-Cullors and award-winning author and journalist asha bandele recount the personal story that led Patrisse to become a founder of Black Lives Matter, seeking to end the culture that declares Black life expendable. Curator of Herpetology, Associate Chair, Department of Natural History, Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida. Dr. Blackburn studies the diversity, evolution, and natural history of amphibians and reptiles. His lab conducts research in the field, in the lab, and in museum collections. Access to the collections of natural history museums has long been restricted to specialists in specific scientific disciplines. By creating digital representatives of specimens and objects, museums are bringing the behind-the-scenes to classrooms, scientists, and the public. These digital specimens enable new, large-scale studies of biodiversity past and present, and provide hands-on learning opportunities for people of all ages. The Florida Museum of Natural History—the state’s only university-based museum—is an international leader in research and education, and offers many research and outreach opportunities for scientists across the state. 7pm

2024.04.11 17:47 SeeCrew106 Weapons at the J6 assault

I hit the 40,000 character limit. Feel free to add more in the comment section.
Farbod Azari
Knife, flagpole.
Based on my review of body-worn camera (“BWC”) footage from Metropolitan Police Department (“MPD”) officers that responded to the Capitol on January 6, 2021, USCP CCV footage, and other publicly available video footage, I have observed that, on January 6, 2021, AZARI was wearing a black jacket, a light-colored t-shirt with a black American flag on it, black Oakley-style sunglasses, dark pants, a tan belt, brown lace-up shoes, and, at various times, black knit hat and/or a red knit hat. I have also observed, at various points, what appears to be the handle of a knife visible in AZARI’s waistband, as depicted below:
(...)
AZARI then jabbed the flagpole at the line of USCP officers, and appeared to make contact with one of the officers’ arms:
(...)
Moments later, AZARI picked up a flagpole with a blue and white "Trump" flag off of the ground, raised it behind his head, took several steps towards the line of police officers and swung the flagpole towards the line of officers:

Ronald Balhorn
Wooden club.
Following this encounter, they proceeded to the Upper North Terrace, where they appeared to have an altercation with a U.S. Capitol Police officer. Mlynarek and Balhorn then proceeded to the West side of the terrace and entered the Capitol shortly after it was first breached by the mob. They remained in the building for nearly half an hour while Balhorn carried with him a wooden club or stick. Mlynarek later posted images of himself and Balhorn inside the building on social media.

Thomas Ballard
Baton, tabletop, bottle, pole, plank, etc.
According to court documents, on Jan. 6, 2021, Ballard was among the crowd of protestors at the lower west terrace of the U.S. Capitol building. While among the crowd of protestors at approximately 4:30 p.m., court documents say that Ballard used a police baton to repeatedly strike and hit police officers and pushed a piece of metal scaffolding at the legs of officers. In addition, court documents state that Ballard threw multiple objects at law enforcement, including a tabletop, a bottle of unknown liquid, a white pole, pieces of a wooden plank, and two other unknown objects.

Logan Barnhart
Flagpole, baton.
According to court documents, on Jan. 6, 2021, Barnhart was part of a mob that confronted law enforcement officers at the Archway leading into the Capitol Building from the Lower West Terrace. During the violence, at approximately 4:27 p.m., another rioter - co-defendant Jack Wade Whitton - began striking at an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) with a crutch. As this was happening, Barnhart climbed over a banister and went up a set of steps leading to the Archway, towards the officer. Whitton grabbed the officer, first by his baton, then by the helmet and the neck of his ballistic vest. As he did this, Barnhart also grabbed the neck of the officer’s ballistic vest. He and Whitton, along with another rioter, then dragged the officer down the steps in a prone position and into the crowd, where other rioters beat the officer with weapons, including a flagpole and a baton. As a result of this attack, the officer sustained physical injuries, including bruising and abrasions.
Several minutes later, Barnhart returned to the Archway, where other rioters were slamming riot shields into the line of police officers. Barnhart pushed other rioters from behind, supporting them and propelling them forward into the line of officers. He then approached the line of officers and struck at them with the base of a flagpole.

Matthew Beddingfield
Metal flagpole, metal rod.
According to court documents, on Jan. 6, 2021, at approximately 12:58 p.m., Beddingfield jumped over a barricade and charged toward a group of U.S. Capitol Police officers who were near the scaffolding that had previously been erected outside the southwest side of the building. A crowd surrounded the officers. At approximately 1:06 p.m., Beddingfield attacked the officers, jabbing at them with a metal flagpole he had brought with him. Soon thereafter, Beddingfield can be seen throwing a metal rod at law enforcement. He remained on the restricted grounds, moving about, before entering the Capitol at approximately 2:38 p.m. through a door on the upper west terrace.
(...)
According to the government’s sentencing memorandum, when Beddingfield committed these acts, he was on conditions of pretrial release in Johnston County, North Carolina, while awaiting trial there on a charge of attempted murder.
Additionally, before the events of January 6, and specifically on November 17, 2020, Beddingfield wrote to an unidentified Instagram user, “Anyone who is in antifa deserves a slow death. They are literally communists.” Nearly a year after the events at the Capitol, on January 19, 2022, Beddingfield wrote to an unidentified Instagram user, “I’d like to reclaim America and it is fine if a few of my peoples enemies are ‘hurt’ in the process.”

According to court documents, on Jan. 6, 2021, at approximately 2:35 p.m., Bilyard was among a crowd of rioters illegally gathered in the Upper West Plaza of the Capitol grounds. He carried a gold-colored canister of “home defense pepper gel.” Bilyard pointed the nozzle of the canister at officers who were attempting to prevent the mob from proceeding further towards the Capitol Building. He then discharged the chemical irritant towards the group of officers. Immediately after he sprayed the irritant, Bilyard and other rioters overwhelmed the police line, causing the officers to retreat through a stairwell to the Lower West Terrace.
Bilyard also went to the Lower West Terrace. At approximately 4:10 p.m., he was in a group of rioters massed in front of a glass window to the Capitol Building. While there, he encouraged an individual who was striking the window with what a metal tomahawk. Bilyard was handed a bat, which he used to shatter the lower glass portion of the window. He then turned to face the crowd and clapped and shouted in an act of encouragement for people to start entering the building. Bilyard also entered the Capitol by crawling through the window that he had shattered.

Kenneth Bonawitz
8-inch hunting knife.
According to court documents, Bonawitz traveled by bus from Florida to Washington, D.C., to attend a rally on January 6 at the Ellipse. After the rally, Bonawitz marched with more than 1,000 individuals to the U.S. Capitol and was among the first of the rioters to push through a police defensive line on the grounds at about 2:28 p.m. at the building’s West Front. Bonawitz was carrying an 8-inch hunting knife in a sheath attached to his belt.
Bonawitz mounted the stage built for the upcoming Inauguration. He then turned and ran in the direction of the edge of the stage with both arms raised. He hurled himself at two Capitol police officers, knocking both to the ground, injuring one of them.
As other officers escorted Bonawitz away, they confiscated the knife and then released him back into the crowd. Seconds later, Bonawitz rejoined the mob and again confronted additional officers on a defensive police line. Almost immediately, Bonawitz assaulted four separate Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers in a melee.
As rioters pushed back against the police, Bonawitz shoved an officer, causing the officer to stumble forward. When the officer turned to face Bonawitz, he wrapped his arms around the officer from behind, inserted his forearm under the officer’s shield, then put the officer in a chokehold. He briefly lifted the officer off the ground and caused the officer to gag before struggling free of his grip.
Bonawitz assaulted two more officers before he began to exit the area around the West Front after being sprayed with a chemical agent.
As he exited Capitol grounds, Bonawitz gave two brief interviews to media outlets. In the first, Bonawitz stated, “I was up on the stage breaking through the lines. D.C. police maced me, hit me over the head with batons, and was kicking me in the side of the face.” In the second, a reporter asked him his name and where he was from. He replied: “Kenneth Bonawitz, Florida.”
Many of Bonawitz’s actions were video recorded by police body worn cameras.
Bonawitz was identified by a confidential source based upon his distinctive tattoos, Bonawitz’s own social media accounts, and his appearance on a Proud Boys meet-up poster that circulated in May 2022 in South Florida.

Steven Capuccio
Baton.
During the “heave-ho” push, a police officer became pinned between the metal doors in the tunnel and a shield held by a co-defendant. Cappuccio saw this and then forcefully yanked the gas mask away from the officer’s face in hard quick movements, causing the officer’s head and neck to be yanked violently in various directions.
As he viciously ripped off the police officer’s gas mask, Cappuccio appeared to say, “How do you like me now, fucker?!” Cappuccio then took the officer’s riot baton out of his hands and used the baton to strike the officer in the face. Cappuccio later exited the tunnel, looked to the crowd, and pumped his fist into the air victoriously.

Lonnie Coffman
Molotov cocktails with napalm, cache of weapons with large capacity ammo feeder.
"The Molotov cocktail components were created so as to be particularly lethal, with a napalm substance inside that would stick to the target and continue to burn," prosecutors wrote in a detention motion. "The defendant had hundreds of rounds of ammunition, each of which could cost a human life. The pickup truck was parked in close proximity to the U.S. Capitol Building. And the handwritten messages in the defendant’s pickup truck raise grave concerns about his intentions, and suggest that these weapons were intended to be used in an effort to violently attack our elected representatives."
Prosecutors allege Coffman had five illegal firearms in addition to the Molotov cocktails and a "large capacity ammo feeding device."

Ronald McAbee
Reinforced knuckle gloves.
After the officer was knocked to the ground, McAbee stepped into the Archway, grabbed the officer’s leg, and pulled him further towards the crowd. When a second MPD officer stepped off the police line to assist the downed officer, McAbee stood up, yelled at the officer who had stepped out to assist, and then swung his arms and hands towards the officer’s head and torso. McAbee made contact with the officer and was wearing reinforced knuckle gloves at the time of the assault.
McAbee then returned his attention to the downed officer and lifted him by the torso and shoulders. As a result, McAbee and the officer slid down a set of steps, with McAbee falling on top of the officer. The two landed in the crowd, where McAbee lay on top of the officer while other rioters assailed the officer for over 20 seconds before the officer was finally able to get up and work his way back to the Archway. Rodney Milstreed
Wooden pick handle.
According to court documents, before the events of Jan. 6, 2021, Milstreed planned to attend the "Stop the Steal" rally on the National Mall rally in Washington, D.C., to protest the results of the 2020 presidential election. Court documents say that Milstreed attempted to recruit friends to join him at the rally, procured a wooden club, injected steroids for several weeks, and worked out to get "jacked" ahead of January 6th. Milstreed indicated to others that he was prepared to "crack some skulls" at the Capitol.
On the morning of January 6, Milstreed took the train from his home in Maryland to Washington, D.C., carrying a wooden pick handle, approximately 4 feet long, with a blue "Trump" flag attached. Shortly before 1:00 p.m., Milstreed made his way to the restricted grounds of the U.S. Capitol and was behind the initial group of rioters who breached the police line at the Pennsylvania Avenue walkway. He then made his way to the front of the crowd at the West Plaza barricade, where he broke through the police line.
(...)
While Milstreed was on the Upper West Plaza, shortly after 1:00 p.m., court documents say that he forcibly assaulted a group of U.S. Capitol Police officers by throwing his wooden pick handle, with the flag still attached, into the line of U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officers attempting to prevent the crowd from advancing. The pick handle hit a USCP officer and glanced off the officer's helmet.
In addition to the assault on police, Milstreed assaulted an Associated Press journalist on the Upper West Plaza.
(...)
Specifically, Milstreed grabbed the photographer's backpack and yanked him down a set of steps to the Lower West Plaza. After the victim stumbled to the bottom of the stairs, Milstreed shoved him and advanced toward him threateningly. Additional rioters surrounded the victim and continued the assault, dragging him through the crowd, grabbing his media identification lanyard and his face and neck.
After the riot, Milstreed sent messages to friends celebrating his participation in the riot and his assaults on law enforcement and media members. Around 8:00 p.m. that evening, Milstreed told one individual, "We f— them federal cops up. They all ran when we got physical. LMFAO[.]” He then added, "Time for war."

In another such communication, Neefe wrote, “We goin? ...Cause hot damn son I really wanna crack some commie skulls.” The two discussed bringing “batons” with them, and Neefe sent a photograph of a wooden club he had made to Smith and others, with a caption that called it “The Commie Knocker.”
On Jan. 6, both illegally entered the Capitol grounds. Neefe carried the wooden club. They both participated in pushing a large metal sign frame – at least eight feet tall and 10 feet wide -- into a defensive line of officers attempting to prevent the mob from further advancing on the west front plaza of the Capitol. Smith also encouraged people in the mob to keep forcing a door to the Capitol closed to keep law enforcement officers inside the building so that they could not respond to the riot unfolding outside.

Pepper spray.
According to court documents, on the morning of Jan. 6, 2021, Ramey joined a large group of Proud Boys, an organized extremist group of which Ramey is a member, gathering at the Washington Monument. After receiving instructions near the Washington Monument, court documents say that the Proud Boys began to march eastward on the National Mall toward the Capitol starting at about 10:45 a.m.
Court records say that Ramey and the other Proud Boys then circled the Capitol, “casing” the grounds for weak points in the security perimeter. At approximately 1:48 p.m., several U.S. Capitol Police officers were attempting to block rioters’ access to the stairwell leading from the Lower West Terrace to the Upper West Terrace of the building.
According to court documents, Ramey was in a group that pushed forward into the officers, pushing them back and up the stairwell. Ramey then sprayed two officers in the face and eyes with pepper spray. Both officers reported that the spray caused them to become disoriented and have their vision impaired.
In a matter of seconds after Ramey’s assaults, court documents say that rioters pushed past the remaining officers in the line and up the stairs toward the Capitol building. Ramey and the Proud Boys moved to the side of the stairs and celebrated what they had accomplished. Ramey then remained on the Capitol grounds for approximately four and a half hours.

According to court documents, on Jan. 6, 2021, Roe attended the “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, D.C., carrying, among other items, a pitchfork, zip ties, and duct tape. After the rally, Roe went to the west front of the U.S. Capitol building and approached a police line with the pitchfork in hand. Court documents say that Roe then pushed a police officer and wrapped his arm around the officer’s arm. Other officers then sprayed Roe with a chemical irritant, causing him to retreat from the police line.
Court documents say that Roe later moved to the Upper West Terrace, where he entered the House of Representatives wing of the Capitol. Roe moved through the Capitol for approximately 15 minutes when law enforcement officers attempted to remove Roe and other rioters from the building. Roe shoved one of these officers several feet backward and wrapped his arm around the officer’s baton. Roe was then expelled from the building; however, court documents say that Roe reentered the building through the East Rotunda Doors with another mob and further clashed with police.
According to court documents, Roe was again removed from the Capitol only to attempt to regain entry a third time on the north side. Here, Roe rammed a bicycle rack ten times against a set of doors leading into the building.

Shelly Stallings
OC spray.
According to the government’s evidence, on Jan. 6, 2021, Schwartz and his wife Shelly Stallings, who pleaded guilty in August, traveled to Washington D.C. and were at the area of the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol Building. While at the front of the police line around 2:28 pm, Schwartz threw a folding chair at officers, later claiming to a friend that he “started a riot” by “throwing the first chair.” He then stole MPD duffle bags full of O.C. spray canisters, which he distributed to other members of the mob, including his wife, so that they could deploy them against the police. Wielding a large MK-46 canister and carrying a wooden tire thumper, Schwartz began indiscriminately spraying O.C. spray at any retreating police officers he could find.
Around the same time, co-defendant Markus Maly pushed through the crowd toward a group of police officers trying to escape up onto the inaugural stage and sprayed with his own O.C. canister. Schwartz and Maly then followed officers up into the lower west terrace tunnel, where they were joined by defendant Brown and dozens of other rioters. As the crowd heaved against the makeshift police line, co-defendant Jeffrey Scott Brown received an O.C. spray canister that was passed from Schwartz to Maly to Brown. Brown tried to use it but couldn’t figure out the nozzle. He passed it back to Schwartz, who appears to have shown Brown how to use it and passed it back. Brown then dove towards the front of the police line, spraying them with yet more OC spray.

Flagpole.
According to court documents, the two defendants were among a mob that illegally engaged in a physical confrontation with law enforcement officers on the west front of the United States Capitol. Isaac Thomas used a flagpole on fully uniformed police officers during that confrontation, with the interaction captured on Christina Legros’s phone. Eight minutes after Thomas swung the flagpole at the first officer, at another confrontation with police Thomas struck an officer with the United States Capitol Police to help the mob move up the steps to the upper west terrace.
Both defendants entered the Capitol through the Senate Wing Door and paraded to the House side of the Capitol until returning to the central room known as the Crypt, where they ascended to the second floor. Once at the second floor, the two entered a suite of offices designated for the Speaker of the House where Thomas recorded a video message on his cell phone: “. . . Devlyn Thompson
Metal baton, flag poles.
According to court documents, Devlyn Thompson, 28, of Seattle, Washington, was among a crowd of individuals on the lower west terrace who were pushing against and assaulting MPD and U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officers in the tunnel leading into the U.S. Capitol. Thompson admitted that he and others in the tunnel yelled obscenities at police and encouraged the continued assault. According to his plea, Thompson was part of a group that threw objects and projectiles at the officers, including flag poles, and grabbed and stole the officers’ riot shields to prevent them from defending themselves against the violence. Thompson personally observed police order rioters to stop, physically push the crowd back and deploy pepper spray in an effort to try to stop the ongoing assault. Later, Thompson picked up a metal baton from the floor of the tunnel and swung it overhead and downward against the police line in an apparent effort to knock a can of pepper spray from an officer’s hand and stop the officer from pepper-spraying the rioters. After more pepper spray was deployed by the rioters and the officers, Thompson retreated from the archway area.

According to WATSON, he used the knife to help tear down cloth around the Presidential Inauguration scaffolding so the crowd could movefurther up toward the U.S. Capitol Building.

Ryan Wilson
Pipe.
By 3:00:56 pm, WILSON was directly in front of the police line, separated only by shields that the police were using to defend themselves. At that time, WILSON grabbed hold of a pipe that a rioter behind him had begun to thrust toward the police, and WILSON rammed it toward the police repeatedly and forcefully, as captured in Morgan’s footage in Image 8.

2024.03.19 21:44 TradeGopher Is THIS Mullen's Board Member Mark Betor?!

Is THIS Mullen's Board Member Mark Betor?!
Strap in folks, this one's wild.
tl;dr: JESUS!
There have been rumours swirling that former police officer turned real-estate guy and now EV board of director member Mark Betor may have had a questionable past as a police officer in California. Betor has been working with Mullen in some capacity since 2018 so I decided to take a look into the news based on a lead and discovered an Officer Mark Betor of Huntington Park police department -which is located approx 10 miles from Mullen's listed address for board member Mark Betor.

Officer Mark Betor is accused of fraud

According to an LA Times article from Aug 21, 1986, an Officer Mark Betor did the following:
An allegedly forged cheque for the Bicycle Club (gambling facility)
We find that an off-duty officer Mark Betor allegedly attempted to cash a forged cheque at the casino but that the staff there refused to cash it.
Noone ever arrested
The article goes on to explain that this Officer Betor likely had a gambling addiction and that the police chief was concerned about the kinds of people Officer Betor was associating with:
... \"screwing up his life\" by gambling.... also concerned about the kinds of people Betor was associating with.
The article details how the event took place and cites Simonoff's report on the incident:
Yikes!
Officer Betor of course denied everything and detailed it as a smear campaign.
It's important to note the Huntington Park police environment at the time of all of this given it was almost 38 years ago:
#1 for police brutality - 30 Claims of police brutality with 14 lawsuits
In another LA Times article, the issue of sexism within the police department was raised as the only female police officer, Victoria Kuhn, was terminated and would sue the police force relying on the testimony of the chief's secretary Sharon Francis.
And who would show up in that article? You don't have to guess:
No girls allowed!
In June 1987, almost a year later, Police Chief Contessotto would end up being fired for his handling of the police force. The LA Times would write another article on the events and would reference an Officer Betor's behavior in the article:
Officer Betor isn't arrested. The later-fired police chief would go on to assign Officer Betor to patrol a gambling facility and then revoked the decision 5 days later
Along with this were allegations that some officers conspired to rob/murder someone at the time which city councillor (mayor) Hennes started investigating:
\"if necessary.. 'take him out'\"
It's important to note that in the initial article, Officer Mark Betor is listed as being age 31 in 1986.
Betor, 31
Compare this to the latest Mullen 10K filing:
Mark Betor, 68
If Mark Betor was 31 in 1986, that would make him 68 years old in 2023. Pretty big coincidence if not the same person.
All of this paints an interesting picture of the established behavior of someone in a position of authority in an environment without self-restraint leading to being the #1 department for police brutality. So where does this fit in with the Mullen story if this is the same Mark Betor? Let's fast-forward to 2020.

A Mark Betor Almost Beats a Lawyer to Death

In 2020, a civil case was launched against a Mark Betor who resided in Orange County, less than 20 miles from the current listed address of the Mullen director with the same name.
Case No 30-2020-01140480-CU-NP-CJC
In this case, on March 12, 2020 the plaintiff alleges that a Mark Betor entered his law firm with two others and demanded money from a settlement owed to someone Betor lent money to. When the lawyer refused, Mark Betor savagely attacked the lawyer.
\"I'm going to f..cking kill you\"
The accounts by the plaintiff are horrific:
\"... threatening to kill him, his wife and his children, to rape each in turn and then kill them.\"
The case was set to go to trial on May 31st, 2022 but on January 27, 2022 the case was declared settled.
13 days before that settlement was declared, Mullen Director Mark Betor would sign a promissory note to Mullen Automotive for $1,000,000 where he would receive $150,000 in interest by April 10, 2022. This note and it's annualized 60% interest has been written about in this reddit post if you would like more information.
Now of course, this could be another Mark Betor in the same location as Mullen Director Mark Betor though when you click through some legal resources to find additional cases pertaining to the Mark Betor you get:

Seven Arts Music Inc? Sounds familiar...

Another promissory note..
The Seven Arts Music Inc lawsuit was case# BC501995 and moved to 13k10445.

Ghosts of Michery's Past

When we pull the incorporation info for Seven Arts Music Inc we get:
Seven Arts Entertainment Inc! It's SAPX!
It's SAPX! For those who don't know, SAPX acquired the music assets of David Michery in 2012 as per this press release and Michery would go on to be appointed CEO:
David Michery - Seven Arts Music CEO
So Mark Betor was sued for breach of contract in 2013 after David Michery was made CEO of SAM in 2012 (it's worth noting that SAPX's Peter Hoffman would end up being indicted for conspiracy and wire fraud in 2014)
Now of course, nothing about this relationship is disclosed in Mark Betor's profile info on the Mullen 10K:
Just an ordinary retired cop into real estate and business

Conclusion

Many shareholders have been led to believe that Mark Betor is simply a retired police officer, business man and real-estate guy who was picked up by Michery to assist on the Mullen Automotive board of directors. When we dig into Betor's past, however, we find instances of a person operating in that same area, with the same age, who took part in David Michery's past ventures (and was sued) and may or may not have a criminal record.
Shareholders have every reason to ask about the relationship between Mark Betor and David Michery as it was never disclosed, and they're right to want answers about why someone like this is on the Mullen board of directors.

Paths for Future Research

It may be in shareholder interests to explore criminal background checks on all board and executive members of Mullen Automotive as there is indication that there could be criminal records for members.
Curious research:
In doing this digging I discovered that Mary Winter also sued SAPX (case # 13504323) and interestingly there is what appears to be a 2009 landlord lawsuit against David Michery and an Erendira Winter (?) regarding a 2 bedroom house (Alicia and Mary Winter would have been approx 19 and 17 respectively at the time).

No position.

2024.03.08 19:54 BrotherChe WyCo public secrets & overlooked scandals to not be forgotten

Here are some topics that need to be remembered and further investigated. PLEASE ADD YOUR OWN BELOW OR SHARE DETAILS OF ONES ALREADY LISTED.
Public workers, politicians, cops, firefighters, need to be asked these things at public events. Especially at community meet & greets they've been having. Get enough people continually asking, and a reporter on it.
We need to demand and enforce a more transparent police department and government
  • ~2023 What actual discipline or results came of Officer Shepherd's very public display of drug or alcohol intoxication while on duty responding to a call?
  • Investigate the cops who were working alongside Golubski.
  • mid 2010s - the fire department overtime scheme.
  • late 2010s - the fire department harassment of Mayor Holland.
  • 2022-2024: Waste Management pickup failures and what's really happening with our recycling. If they refuse to pickup, then we need our money back. If recycling is not actually being done, we need our money back.
  • PILOT fees -- how is a "payment in lieu of taxes" not a tax. By law they can't tax us, so they made up a fee to tax us by not calling it a tax. How is that legal?
  • Money surrounding Orange County Choppers closure, as well as other similar "auctions" and closures out at the Legends/Village West.
  • Over the last few years (2020s) we've been unable to get sufficient staffing of county prosecutors to try cases. And so cases are being pled out or dropped.
  • ~2021 What's happening with the citizens board on police reform/oversight. I know they had assigned a college student, a priest, a cop, and maybe one other person, so it sure seemed like they set it up to fail.
  • 2022 County Administrator Doug Bach suddenly bailed out of the job with nearly a million dollar pay day?
  • 2023 Garner gets crony in position of County Administrator that is working full time in the same job in KCMO.
  • 2023 Garner crony put in place to redevelop land downtown that he has personal financial stake in.
  • Are the people performing personal property assessments from KCK? We need a full accounting and explanation of their assessment methods, procedures, formulas & algorithms.
