2024.06.07 21:54 AfricaByToto3 [PC][20005] a classic brick breaker game where you have to use left and right arrow keys to move the ball to break all bricks without getting killed by spikey balls following you.

It was a pc game where the bricks were square shaped with a fruit icon on it. Yellow being banana, green being apple and so on. You were the ball that used arrow keys (left and right) on the keyboard to bounce around.
Key features I remember was that you had to hit a certain block in order to change the color of your ball to hit the corresponding brick. There were a few spikey balls that were bouncing around chasing you in order to kill you. There was also a brick you could hit which made you cycle through all colors (sort of like the effect a star gives you in mario) which let you break any color bricks for a brief period. The game also had a sort of free roam style where you roam around and go through a tube/pipe (similar to the ones in Mario) in order to start the new level
The art style was like DX ball
Platform(s): as far as I know PC
Genre: arcade?
Estimated year of release: early 2000s
Graphics/art style: similar to DX ball
Notable characters: just a regular ball (you) and what I believe to be spikey balls (the enemies you need to stay away from)
Notable gameplay mechanics: arrow keys (left and right) to move while bouncing in order to break all bricks in the levels.
Unfortunately this is all I remember. If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer

Never been one to hit up Reddit for thoughts or opinions in regards to relationships but figured I’d float my situation out there just to see what people think
Was in a year long relationship that my ex-gf ended due to long distance. Aside from the distance it was a healthy relationship that was a lot fun and extremely passionate. After calling it quits we made small talk thru text for about a month until one night I randomly received a long goodbye and thank you for everything text that also explained that I was gonna be blocked so that we could both move on w/ our lives. Before I could even respond I was blocked both through my phone and IG.
Last night I was searching for my friend on IG whose name starts w/ the same letter as hers and noticed her name pop up in the search bar. Her profile is private but I was unblocked. Usually people say in this situation the person unblocks you because they’ve moved on but what makes this different is that I have a personal IG profile and a seperate business IG. She only unblocked my personal profile. The business profile is still blocked. I’m not even considering reaching out but found i it interesting that only my personal page is unblocked. Any thoughts?

2024.06.07 21:45 Mike_Willer LPT Addicted to your phone? Don’t get a flip phone. Just make your existing phone harder to use.

We’ve all been there: doomscrolling for hours, then thinking: “I’m quitting once and for all! Im getting a flip phone!”.
Well I’m here to tell you the truth: It’s stupid to get a flip phone. Trust me, I’ve tried.
Not only is it annoying to switch your sims and order a whole new phone, but you also lose core utility that just makes your life so much more inconvenient. You can’t be in iMessage group chats. Good luck with 2Factor Auth. Try sending an email on a numeric keyboard lol. The list goes on
After years of trying, and here’s my advice: instead of forcing a change, add the right amount of friction to your phone. you’ll gradually rewire yourself to use it less, which makes a hell of a difference. Try any or all of these things:
I feel like having discipline when it comes to using your phone is getting harder with every passing year. With that said new tech is incredibly useful so it doesn’t mean we should take a step back to flip phones but instead use the tools at our disposal.
Feel free to ask any questions, I’m happy to help. It is a tough problem to fix alone

2024.06.07 21:44 Jus17173 Depth of Madness - Chapter 2 - (Edge of Madness Book 2)

Book One: Edge of Madness - Chapter One Previous Next
I could pretend to be a whore. That's what Masutap thought as she stood before the gate leading to the fortress of the Highlord of the Eastlocal. Pretense was a thing she indulged in back when she'd been an ordinary woman, with ordinary ambitions. But as of now, things had changed. Things had changed drastically, for she was now a champion of the Goddess of Order. A champion who would do anything in her power to mock the very being that fed her power.
Power, yes. It was what she felt. Every time her eyes turned upon the world, she saw Order. Like bees in a hive, working towards a similar objective. Survival. Yes, they all wanted to survive. And that's where the power lay, in her ability to deny a thing's chance at survival, for when her eyes flashed red, things died.
"Pardon me sir." A man dragging a cart of coal said. She was standing in his way, she knew this of course, she'd known it since the time he'd decided to deliver the coal. She saw the strings of prophesy in the smallest of things, and oh what power lied in discernment, to see the past and the future in absolute clarity, the secret lay in following strands of Order. The Highlord of the Eastlocal always received a cart of coal at around this time every fifth day. He would serve as her witness. Coal. She smiled, remembering how Orgeeg had managed to penetrate into the Palace of Binoria, on a stack of coal. She recalled how Orgeeg thwarted her plans, then she remembered how small her plans had been.
"Pardon me... Uh lady?" She removed her cowl as the Coal merchant spoke. Her hair was longer now, she'd let it grow, it dangled askew of her ears. Dark and rich as her mother's once was. Masutap smiled at the man whose face was caked in coal dust.
"Today Shama dies! Tonight the Highlord of the EastLocal is no more!" Masutap said.
Twin daggers she had strapped to her waist were suddenly in her hands. The coal merchant stumbled back several steps, dragging the cart with him. The sun was dipping into the horizon, becoming a smeared red smudge upon the canvas of her perception. Her eyes flashed red, and the smeared smudge's light brightened, blanketing everything, making her see.
She spun and threw the dagger in her left hand. The knife whirled in the air and met the throat of a guard who was just cresting the upper walkway of the gate, he wore red leather that marked him as one of the royal guards of the Highlord. A shout sounded. The guards at the gate turned their attention to her. They were six of them, each of them dazed with the slow reception of understanding. The bubble they lived in, understanding it enabled her to see how blind humanity is. Like sheep, no wonder the Vigons ruled them so easily.
She was in their midst before they drew their swords from their scabbards. She drove the dagger into the throat of the first one, danced in a pirouette, thrust free the dagger and hurled it into the throat of another guard. Her hands were free, she curled her fingers into fists.
The Goddess Meena, Goddess of Order, spoke to her. **What is the purpose of this?*
"Oh, you'll see." Masutap said and drove a fist into the chest of one guard, her hand caved through the chest cavity, snapping the spine in half and emerging free of the Guards back. She paused for effect, the three remaining guards gawked at her. She pried her arm free of the corpse and met their panicked gazes. "Sound the alarm, you're too few to make me sweat. I need all of you. Gods! Come on you fucking cowards!"
Two of the three guards charged her, one took a swing at her head with a flat blade, the sharp edge missed her by a hair's breadth as she ducked. She brought up her knee and connected with the man's groin, raising him off the ground, legs held apart, face contorted in pain. He collapsed on the ground with a squeal akin to that of a dying rabbit. The other guard put on a stance of Grind, legs parted, right foot before the left. Knees bent. He brandished his sword before him, and the guard behind him ran off to sound the alarm. Masutap smiled.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
He slept on a bed filled with whores. Talisi women with their dark skin and white hair, Remu women with their sandy peppered hair and copper skin, Binorian women with their blonde hair and pale milky skin. He was their God and they flocked to him in worship. He owned all of them, from the frailest to the most able bodied. From the smartest to the daftest. They were all his.
The Highlord of the Eastlocal observed the head of the Talisi woman resting on his thigh, her breathing was deep, her dark naked breasts rising and falling with every inhale and exhale. Five other women slept around him, each as beautiful as the last.
Of all the men in the realm, I alone am the honored one. Shama thought. He caressed his bulging belly with his pudgy fingers the size of sausages. His appearance did pass as grotesque. Bloated, balding with a cleanly shaven head, wide of girth and bow legged. Yet, no man has conquered the bodies of women as he had done. Women who lusted after tall handsome men. Women who sought capable men with astounding intelligence. They all gave in to him, none could deny him and when they did, well, there were ways to make them yield.
An orgy at noon. That was the gist of it, and another orgy before the midnight bell. Life was good, life was beautiful. Shama had thought that after the death of King Vayin Vigon in the hands of the infamous Kolotian, Ishar, that his wealth will dwindle, that his status will come down a step. That the might of Binoria will be a fickle thing after their first loss at war. But of course, this wasn't to be. The Queen, Dahli Vigon, had received the blessing of Meena, passed down from her father. As long as one with the Jojoh Meena, the blessing of Meena, still ruled, then things will stay as they've always been. Dahli had taken over, ensuring that Binoria didn't fall into anarchy, ensuring the Vigon name remained revered. The beautiful blonde haired girl was now the most potent soul upon the realm. How he longed to have her in his bed, parting those pale thighs sinuated with muscle. She'd become quite the fair lady. And her presence oozed power.
Shama wanted her but a thought kept his desires at bay. She'd frowned at him at the recent Highlords meeting with the throne. Apparently, his tastes and businesses didn't bode well with her. The selling of flesh, that is what he partook in with the zeal of a drowning man reaching for a floating oar. Importing women from all over the realm, some came willingly, others reluctantly. But in the end they all came. Their dignity thrown away for the promise of gold vigons. They filled the whore houses and men flocked to them in throngs, lining his pocket with gold vigons
It was his inventiveness that brought him to the top, the Highlord of the Eastlocal was once a position few envied. But his eye, trained in the art of commerce, enabled him to transform the east of Binoria. Creating a network that not only benefited him, but also the crown. And in so doing, despite her frowns and her reluctance to treat with him, she still couldn't voice her displeasure. Dahli needed him, she needed him for the coin necessary to maintain her position upon the crown. To line the pockets of her Legions. She needed him, and one day he will have her. No woman can deny him, and if they did, there were ways to make them give in.
Suddenly, the twin oak doors leading to his bed chambers flew open. The Captain of the Red Guard, in charge of his safety, Shang, walked in. "Highlord." He said with a bow, the women around him stirred. Outside, a bell started ringing, slowly at first then with extreme vigor. Something is wrong. Shang's obvious panic was clear to see. The opened door allowed him to see several Red guards crowded at the door.
"What is the meaning of this?" Shama asked, his beady eyes on Shang. An inhuman scream sounded somewhere within the fortress. Shama's blood chilled in his veins.
"There's an intruder." Shang said while ravaging through the clothes on the floor. He lifted a red jerkin, two sizes too large, the right size for the Highlord. He threw it at Shama and the Highlord hastened to put it on. He ignored the bewildered looks of the naked whores.
"Intruders or intruder?" Shama asked as Shang led him out of his bed chambers. Another scream sounded, closer. The guards at the door, seven of them, crested around him as Shang led the way.
"A woman, she's alone." Shang said.
Shama gripped Shang's arm, halting him. "What do you mean by this? A singular woman causing... causing... this?"
"She's..." Shang hesitated.
"Speak! You fool!"
"She seems to be inhumanly strong and fast. I only saw her fight through a blockade of my brothers, without a sword. She tore my brothers— the Red Guards, to pieces." Shang's eyes became glazed, as if his mind was replaying the mayhem he'd bore witness to. Shama let go of his arm. The trembling was taking him again, starting at the soles of his feet, up his spine around his neck to his hands. It had been so long since he felt this, the animalistic fear confounded on the existence of an unknown, an unknown that sought to see him dead.
"Captain, what is your course of action?" Shama asked.
Shang seemed to shake himself free of his trance. "We're going to take you to the stables, get you on the fastest steed and—" A scream echoed through the halls of the fortress of the Highlord of the Eastlocal. Checking everyone in place.
"What of provisions?"
"There's no time." Shang said. He drew a flat blade from the scabbard at his side. The Guards all around mimicked him, the rustling of steel could be heard, and there, at the Western end of the fortress, screams sounded.
Shang started a brisk walk towards the East end of the Fortress. His boots, soles lined with metal, clancked upon the ground. Shama shuffled close behind Shang, panting like a mare in heat. The Red Guards around him stole glances to their rear, sweat woven with fear formed a sleek mask upon their startled faces. And in those eyes Shama was able to weigh how dire matters were.
A shout sounded from ahead, bringing Shang to an abrupt stop. "How—" His words caught in his throat as a woman caked in blood and gore emerged from the bend linking the hallway they were in to another hallway that led to the stables.
She stood before them and spread out her bloody fingers at Shama. "Highlord, nice to meet you." She waved. "Say, I hear you can show a woman a good time and I'm in quite the mood for a good time tonight."
Shama trembled, the woman seemed vaguely familiar. The angles of her cheekbones , that nose, those eyes. She resembled Dahli.
"Moran and Jesul to me!" Shang commanded. Two of the guards behind Shama moved forward to flank Shang on either side. "Employ any forms, ensure I get close to her so I may employ the form of Awe."
Awe— the grappling technique that ensured the limbs were pinned. Shama saw Shang's ploy. He needed to contain the woman so Shama could move past them and head for the stables. Shama cursed himself for the design of his fortress that allowed for only one route to the stables.
Shang, Moran and Jesul raised their broad swords. One raising it above the head in a form of Rage, the other bringing the blade level with his face in the form of Pride. Shang lowered his blade and the guards flanking him charged, he followed close behind. The woman let out a cry that could only be translated as one of glee. She charged them.
Moran brought his sword down on the woman but she slid on her knees, allowing momentum to push her beyond the reach of his blade. Jesul thrust at her, raising his right leg and angling the sword downwards at her face. But the woman dodged, spun upon the ground on the small of her back and kicked Jesul's leg from under him. Jesul fell and as he raised his head he met with the woman's fist, there was a loud crunch as his face caved in. His hand let go of the sword as his body became limp.
Shang saw the opening and dived at the woman before she could stand. The woman spread her arms wide, welcoming. Shang pounced but instead landed on the woman's upraised knees, she grabbed his leather armor by the collar and flung him behind her and onto Moran. Both of them collapsed on the ground.
She stood up and smiled at Shama.
"Who are you?" Shama asked.
"I'm Masutap, the sister of Queen Dahli." The woman answered.
"Men! Turtle formation! Swords out, save the Highlord! Move you fools!" Shang said as he picked himself up from the ground behind Masutap.
The men around Shama compacted closer. Their swords pointing at Masutap who regarded them with a smirk upon her face. They inched forward, hesitantly at first, then with confidence as they saw their Captain pick up his sword. They all came to a stand still when the eyes of the woman glowed a fierce red, as if she held the Jojoh Meena. And Shama, the Highlord of the Eastlocal, trembled before her gaze.
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Intuition, the immediate cognition without the use of conscious rational processes. It was simple for her, she dodged the sword thrusts and swipes easily. She turned either way, always beyond reach of the blades, always within striking distance. Her strength was a thing of beauty, somehow her frail wrists held the power necessary to crush a throat and crush a throat she did. She didn't tire, she didn't require forms of combat. The power of the Goddess of Order coursed through her veins and with it came rejuvenation.
The Red Guards pounced on her, seeking to put in place the form of Awe. But their efforts were in vain, she side stepped them easily, always on her feet. She saw an opening and like a river emptying into the Rankf sea she took it, delivering a punch to the side of a Guard's chest, feeling as ribs broke and punctured the lung.
**What is the purpose of this?* The Goddess Meena spoke within her mind. An ever present being whose words sought to throw her off, to calm the tempest raging within her. Masutap didn't want calm, she wanted fire and brimstone, she wanted Binoria to burn so their precious Queen will rule nothing but ash. She decreed this with a war cry, plunging into the midst of the Red Guards. She kicked two, flinging them across the hallway. One thrust with his blade but she caught it between her arm and side, she twisted the blade free of his grasp, gripped the hilt and decapitated the man in one swift motion.
She parried a strike to her left, danced free of two thrust then brought the blade down onto a Guard's head. She felt as the blade bit bone and she wasted no time in pulling it free. **What is the purpose of this?* Meena asked once more.
Masutap took three steps back to widen her periphery. "An inferno." She said as she flexed her sword hand. Suddenly, the Guard who was definitely their Captain, reached into the mass of clustered Guards pressed to the wall, away from her. And pulled the Highlord free of the men surrounding him.
"Form a blockade!" He screamed as he tagged and pulled at the distraught Highlord, leading him towards the end of the hallway. The remaining Guards blocked her vision of them. Like a fool she'd been too enthralled by the battle, allowing the Highlord to slowly slip past her, cocooned in the safety of the Guards in their turtle formation. He was making clear his escape and somehow, this aroused her, blowing upon an ember lodged deep within her until it sparked.
**What is the purpose of this?* Like a parrot, the Goddess repeated her question.
"An inferno." Masutap answered and lunged.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
He was sweating profusely, his breath caught in his throat, causing him to choke on air. He followed Shang, feeling the Captain of the Red Guard's displeasure at his inability to keep up. They descended a flight of stairs, taking three at a time. He almost collapsed but the Captain steadied him.
"Not far now my Lord. Just at that bend before us." Shang said. They took the bend and ran clear of the fortress. The horses were just ahead, they rushed to them. Shama took delight in the open air. The stables were void of people, Shama wondered where the stable hands were. They entered the stable and Shang dragged him to the first cubicle on the right where a saddled horse stood.
Shama hastily climbed onto the saddle with the aid of the Captain. Shang placed his Highlord's feet in the stirrups and moved to flank the horse. "Lord." He said, fighting for solid ground that will enable his words to come forth easily. "It has been an honor to serve under you." Shama smiled but his smile proved too little a gesture to carry the weight or their current predicament. "Ride hard for the Capital, ensure the Queen knows of all that's gone down here. I will stay back and hold her for as long as I can." Shang concluded with a crisp salute. The Highlord nodded and with the guidance of his captain upon the horse's reins, they exited the stable "She is a good steed, see the mark of her coat? She can take you far." Shang said once free of the stables. A scream sounded from within the fortress, horrid in its guttural screech. "Go now my Lor—" Shang's words died in his mouth as an explosion erupted at the first floor of the fortress, stone parted, breaking as easily as a clay vase, the window panels and the glass set in place erupted outwards with the stone. Three figures tumbled free of the eruption, tangled in the air, twisting with the fall. They landed, the woman on her feet, knees bent and a fist pressed to the ground, the other two guards lay insensate upon the ground, their bodies a mangled mess. Shang slapped the horse's hide and Shama took of in a gallop.
The Highlord turned back, watched as the woman rose free of the debri and charged Shang. The captain employed a form of Grind but the Highlord's view was hindered by a sharp turn around the cobblestones towards the gate of his fortress. The blood and bodies upon the ground unsettled the horse, forcing its pace to be more hurried and Shama was all the more grateful for it.
She has the Jojoh Meena! Shama thought with awe as the horse broke free of the fortress in a quick gallop that had him bouncing upon the saddle. His thighs felt the brunt force of his escape but he could do nothing but hold on for dear life. This is what I'm reduced to, at the end of the line dependency thrives, in old age your children are those you depend on. I never thought I'd come to rely on anyone throughout my life. Yet here I am, depending on a horse to save my skin. He turned his head back and heaved a sigh of relief. The fortress was dwindling within his periphery, he had made quick his escape. Shama will live to see another day. And when the sun rises and sets, I will bring judgment upon the woman whose very existence rivals my own. Masutap. I will hunt her, she will know no safety within the realm, she will never know peace or a good night's slee— Something unnerved him. There, at the entrance to the fortress, a figure appeared. Following the path charted by his horse. She hopes to outrun my horse? He tilted his head back and laughed. There is faith and delusion and she seems to be enamored by both. To think her capable of outrunning a horse. What a fool what a— His thoughts halted when he turned back, his mouth dropped, his jaw hanging loose. Masutap was catching up, he did not know how but she was gaining on him. She'd been a speck in the distance, barely visible against the backdrop of the fortress. But now her features were getting more defined and her limbs, they were a blur as she pushed forward with inhuman speed.
Panic drove Shama into action, he kicked his heels at the horse's flanks. Willing it to go faster. "Run you fool! Run!" He was frothing at the mouth as the horse went downhill, cutting his view of the one in pursuit. He gripped harder at the reins and screamed, slapping the horse's neck. He looked back to see Masutap emerge upon the hill and start a quick descent after him. He thought about guiding the horse into the wilderness and thought against it seeing that a gallop won't be possible with trees in the way. His only hope was in outpacing her for surely, even one with the Jojoh Meena must tire. He hoped Masutap would relent, he hoped her bloodlust would have proved sated by the guards who'd met their end by her. He hoped that he would live to see the sun climb into the sky one more time. Darkness was setting in and suddenly thoughts of the sun and it's warmth sprouted a yearning within him that made him weep. He turned his head back, she was a hundred paces away. The horse was tiring, it's gallop lazed in vigor. This is the end then, all those afternoons spent indoors hosting orgies. I should have spent them beneath the sun, I should have spent them in the sun He looked back once more, his horse barely keeping pace. The horse threw a shoe and Shama was flung off it. He tumbled onto the ground, his weight rested upon his twisted knee, the sharp pop of the joint led him into an anguished wail. The horse screamed, its fore limbs oddly twisted. The horse thrashed upon the ground and Shama rolled away. He felt weak, he felt defeated and most of all, he felt hopeless.
He lay there, watching the sky, the moon was up, barely half of it adorned the night. He wished it had been full, all those nights when he'd regarded the sky as one would a thing of no consequence. Now he found himself wishing he'd appreciated it more. In the end regrets rule the mind, for in its dying wails no sound of gratitude can be heard.
She came and stood above him, her face blocking the view of the sky. She breathed loudly and for a moment the only sounds around them were from the injured horse and her.
"Dahli will come for you." He opined despite the throbbing pain within his twisted leg.
"Shama, darling," Masutap said as she lowered herself to lie beside him. She chuckled. "Darling, that word. The Goddess Meena loves that word. She uses it a lot. I find it distasteful yet here I am. Calling you darling."
"I have not time for pleasantries." Shama interjected. "Cut my throat and be done with it."
Masutap sighed. "That's not a creative way to kill someone you know. No, how many women have suffered pain beneath you? I have to give answer to that and that means a show. I will drag you to your fortress, there I will strip you naked and castrate you. I will feed you your cock as the women whom you took advantage of watch. Then we'll douse you in Rankf Oil and set you alight."
Shama started weeping. And a new voice joined the fray, he wept, she heaved and the horse screamed.

Is Cam Christie a possible 2nd round steal?
The 6’6” 190 lbs freshman 2-guard from Minnesota will be just shy of 19 years old on draft night. He has a slick jumper with a quick, high release. He can pull up or catch & shoot, plus he showed flashes of movement shooting, and connected on 39.4% on relatively high volume from 3 (10.6 per 100 possessions). Also notable was his 37.3% on contested 3s.
Other than his shooting prowess, he’s good at putting the ball on the floor to attack closeouts & score inside but needs to put on strength to improve his finishing, however, he’s also a good passer and understands how to use his gravity as a shooter to create advantages for his teammates.
He’s not a flashy defensive playmaker, but he is still strong fundamentally, has positional size with a 6’8” wingspan, and is smart on that end of the court so he should at least be a neutral defender.
Could this be a guy we draft at #44, develop him at RGV for a year and then bring him into the fold in 2025?

2024.06.07 21:36 Psychseps A Love Letter to Notion

In the last six months, I did the full circle going from Apple Notes to trying to find a cross platform app — starting with Apple Notes -> OneNote -> Notion -> Obsidian and then back to Apple Notes.
Apple Notes does everything I want it to do but it has one huge flaw - it is Apple-only, which rules out my Windows Desktop. I have a MacBook pro from 2013 that has slowed down a lot and doesn’t offer the latest Notes features out of the box (updated to Sonoma using OCLP, got the features but at the expense of speed and battery power). So I have had very poor Windows experience on iCloud.com and slow Mac experience. Lots of people get around this by either upgrading their Apple devices, or using a cross-platform app like ToDoist, but I didn’t want a paid app - after all I was getting by using the native apps.
Then, I heard the CEO of Notion talk in this video. His ideas really resonated with me and I was impressed by his vision.
See, I am a tinkerer at heart, but when it comes to productivity, I have to have something that works. When Ivan talked about giving “Lego bricks” to adults to build a tool that they can use to do whatever they want and improve their productivity, that really resonated with me.
The mistake I made last time I tried Notion was going for the mobile app first. The experience is bad there unless you come to it from the Desktop app. Also the Notion Calendar app had not launched. So 3 days ago (June 4th, 2024) I watched a few YouTube videos to grab the basics of Notion’s block and database architectures. Then I dove straight in…
The lucky thing was that I came into this just after the recent quality of life improvements and, more importantly, the new Home page with its My tasks widget.
I wanted an app which I could use to organize my life and work using PARA and GTD methods and have been using a combination of Apple Notes, Reminders and Calendar. After Notion rolled out the calendar feature, and more recently its Home feature where you can bring in tasks from different databases, the whole thing clicked.
Here’s how it works: I have an Inbox where the Web Clipper sends things for me to Capture. I then have a Task List (which syncs to the Home page and my Google/Notion Calendar) with tasks that I have clarified to work on. It has reminders so I get notifications on iOS and also have the Notion Calendar widget, populated with my Tasks database items. Placed its Widget on the iOS home screen and BOOM, I can glance at my to-do list everywhere.
Then there is the two-way sync with calendar. Tasks go there automatically, any changes to date/time are reflected automatically. The appointments I set up there show up in my Notion Home page as well. Just brilliant.
Then there is Notion itself - I have now set up a Content page for all the articles/other media I want to keep, neatly organized and sortable. A books list. All the goodies you can achieve with a sea of templates. I thought the sheer number of templates and possibilities with Notion could be a distraction, but if you can keep your focus, you can build exactly what you want with this app to serve your needs. I am now overflowing with productive ideas about learning, blogging, vlogging, archiving, planning work projects etc. etc.
The app also has backlinks, although no graph view a la Obsidian or Roam - which I found to be a gimmick. So no problems there.
And then ton of other useful features — downloadable templates, standard hyperlink to share to non-users, publishing directly to web, support for many Markdown elements, version history, table of contents, export to PDF/CSV/Markdown formats, an API that helps integrate other apps, the community they fostered… the list just goes on and on.
Even the price is right -FREE for personal and limited with sharing. I may even pay for it given how much it can enable me to achieve.
Can it be better? Sure. Here’s what I really want to see to call this app perfect:
  1. Offline availability.
  2. OCR support for images/searchable PDFs and documents
  3. Design improvements to the mobile app - the Remind toggle and the Time dials are too far apart for example
  4. More streamlined design
  5. End-to-end encryption - unless it breaks features.

2024.06.07 21:19 SamsungGalaxyBrain Summerhall 2.0: King's Landing boogaloo

Let us imagine, my friends, that it is the 10th anniversary of Robert's reign. He and a lot of the nobles are out on a hunt when King's Landing explodes into a giant ball of green flames. Some homeless orphan, or maybe even one of Varys' little birds, goes exploring, stumbles onto one of Aerys' forgotten caches, it catches fire and triggers a chain reaction. Too bad so sad. Northmen, Dornishmen, and Iron Islanders did not have anyone of importance attending, but the rest of the Kindgoms lose many an important player in the game.
• Loras was at the hunt, but Olenna, Mace the Ace and Margaery, invited to the capital by Renly, who, being the groomer that he is decided to start the Lyanna lookalike thing young, were all toast. Willas and Garlan have weathered the storm, having stayed at home, and they were in general smart cookies, but not Queen of Thorns level smart, and nearly not as power-hungry. They just wanted to chill and grieve now.
• The Iron Islands have barely begun to recover from their last attempt at independence, but the Great Fire presented them with an opportunity like none other, and so they have made a half-arsed attempt at ploundering the Western coast of the Seven Kingdoms. In Winterfell, young Theon loses his head.
• Jon Arryn, Lysa, Sweetrobin, and Baelish were unsurprisingly in King's Landing at the time. They did not attend the hunt, and now they also were all toast. Harry was still a green boy at the time, the lords were not pleased with the prospect of a regency, many of them wanting absolute power for their own now that the main Arryn line was extinct, the Mountain Clans saw that as a good omen and went on a rampage. The Vale was in turmoil.
• Tywin and Kevan attended the feast but not the hunt, as they were visiting Cersei and her children at the time. They, too, were all toast. Jaime and Lancel could not get out of their respective Kingsguard and page duties due to Bobby B being petty for once, so they survived, but now a succession crisis in the Westerlands was also in place with the potential heirs being a grief-stricken and deeply unlikable Kingslayer with a vow of celibacy, a deeply unlikable whoremonger Imp, and a green boy.
• Edmure was also in King's Landing, visiting Lysa, and opted to visit a tavern with several other prominent Riverlands heir lads, so can you guess what they all became? You are goddamn right! Toast! So now Hoster, who was already at the first stages of his terminal illness and could not perform, only had the Blackfish, who wasstill refusing to marry, and the Stark kids for heirs. Several other houses were experiencing similar issues, but apparently while everybody else was grieving, Old Walder held a massive celebration at the Twins. Oh, and make no mistake, he will also be pushing for Genna and Emmon's kids to inherit Casterly Rock, and let us not forget about trying to put all of his daughters into newly widowed Robert's bed. How 'nice'.
• As previously mentioned, Cersei and all three of Robert's golden 'heirs' were home at the time. Tragically, so was the Mannis. Which means now Bobby's heirs were a gay pedo, a greyscale-ridden girl, and a score of bastards. Not that that was of any concern to Robert, he normally would not give a rat's arse about any of them dying. The matter in which they had died, though? Now, that is another thing entirely! Wildfire is a clear mark of the work of DRAGONSPAWN! Without Jon Arryn or dear old Ned to steady him, he declared war on the entire continent of Essos to deal with DRAGONSPAWN! for good. Screw securing his line, he can do it later. Everybody in Westeros thought this idea was bonkers and a clear sign of his own Targ ancestry coming out, and they surely had their own problems to deal with, but oh well, he was King. For now. And oh, where are the Targs by the way?
• While Dorne has rejoiced and begun discreetly gathering troops in Viserys' name, Vizzy the Mad himself and his sister were nowhere to be found. For all of his abundant mental issues, Viserys was slippery as an eel and has gotten very good at hiding in the slums of whatever Free City he was in at the time. Dozens of Robert and Illyrio's agents were out to get him, and he could not really distinguish him from Doran's agents, could he? In the end, though, Doran proved fleetingly victorious, until Vizzy got felled by a shadow demon at the docks, just as he was about to set sail for Westeros. Oh yeah. Melisandre had decided to shift her attentions to Bobby dearest, proclaiming him Azor Ahai reborn, and had managed to calm him down a little with her magical nether regions, promising and delivering on a bit more boring yet far more quicker way to get rid of the Targs. In the process, Daenerys had escaped, but had also gotten the short end of the stick by encountering the same type of wizard young Varys had, who promptly caught her and made her permanently barren, Aretuza-style. This is no maegi curse. Not even a dragon can grow a secong uterus. She may or may not get her dragons several years down the line, but her own line definitely ended with her.
• Speaking of Illyrio. With Varys having perished in the fire, he became the head of the whole fAegon operation, and started aggressively marketing the young 'King' to the Seven Kingdoms. The thing is, word of a dead Spider, one-sided letters in cypher, and word of JonCon who is easily led and could be convinced Aegon Jinglebell Frey was the son of his Silver Prince if you told him enough sentimental plattitudes, is not enough. That kid could be any random Lyseni or dragonseed. And the Golden Company's involvement only made the whole shebang more sus. It still gave them a modicum of support... until their glorious homecoming ship got caught in a storm in the Narrow Sea and drowned. fAegon, the sole survivor, was now best bros with Patchface and his namesake Jinglebell. The fiasco, however, gave many an enterprizing man on both sides of the Narrow Sea an idea, and Westeros became inundaded with dozens of various fAegons, fViseryses, fRhaenyses, fDaeneryses, and even an occasional fRhaegar and f'Dragonwolf', all claiming the same thing. The latter, however, made Catelyn a bit sus, and she wrangled the truth out of her husband.
• It did not make things better, however. You see, dearest not-so-gentlereader, instability South of the Wall made the Night King seize the opportunity a couple of years earlier, bringing terror to the Free Folk, who, in turn, came in troves and brought terror to the North. Ned Stark, unlike his son/nephew, was not one to negotiate with wildings, and young, too young Robb and Jon, both eager for glory despite being barely into their teens, snuck onto the battlefield and both died by enemy arrows.
• In the end, an unlikely Suicide S̶q̶u̶a̶d̶ Duo of Bobby B and Dany on dragons tried having their last stand against the Others but failed. Oh well. At least no future Westerosi will worry about not having an air conditioner in a heatwave now. You know we all do. Ain't that, in a way, a happy ending?

Q: Does New Jersey have a safe storage law? What are the New Jersey Laws around firearm storage in the home?
A: NO, New Jersey has no law that requires unattended firearms to be stored in a certain way. They can be loaded or unloaded when stored.
Additional Info:
CHILD ACCESS PREVENTION
New Jersey provides that “[a] person who knows or reasonably should know that a minor [under 16 years of age] is likely to gain access to a loaded firearm at a premises under the person’s control” is criminally liable for a misdemeanor if a minor gains access to a firearm, unless the person:
This section does not apply to activities concerning the lawful use of a firearm by a minor (see the section entitled Minimum Age to Purchase & Possess in New Jersey), or where a minor obtained a firearm as a result of an unlawful entry by any person.
New Jersey requires firearm dealers to give all firearm transferees the following written warning, printed in block letters not less than one-fourth of an inch in height: “IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE, PUNISHABLE BY A FINE AND IMPRISONMENT, FOR AN ADULT TO LEAVE A LOADED FIREARM WITHIN EASY ACCESS OF A MINOR.” Dealers also must post a truncated version of this warning “conspicuously” at each purchase counter, printed in block letters not less than one inch in height.
New Jersey imposes harsh penalties, including a mandatory minimum prison term of three years without parole, on any person who knowingly sells, gives, transfers, assigns or otherwise disposes of a firearm to a person under age 18.
TRIGGER LOCKS
In New Jersey, retail firearms dealers must include a trigger lock or a locked case, gun box, container or other secure facility with every handgun sold.

2024.06.07 21:06 YentaMagenta I sincerely feel bad for folks flocking to Cara

I admit the headline is click-/rage-baity, but I also mean it.
Here's the TLDR: Cara is a lovely idea that currently lacks a viable long-term business model. Surviving in a form that reflects its current principles will require acts of charity or a sea-change in the public's willingness to pay for social media.
I think we can agree that Instagram and Facebook have become an annoying morass of promoted content and outright advertising. I hope we can also agree that the content-farm AI-generated images taking over Facebook are obnoxious (albeit sometimes hilarious). For people who were purely interested in seeing/promoting photography, Instagram is no longer home. As for DeviantArt, I can't even fully wrap by brain around whatever drama is happening there.
Given the enshittification of popular social media platforms, who could blame creatives for seeking something new that is simple and free of paid content and AI? I do both real-world photography and AI art. But I might very well be willing to shell out for a platform that served me high-effort content free of advertising and algorithmic interference—even with the restriction that I could only post my non-AI work there.
Unfortunately for all of us, the long-term viability of such a platform is questionable, even before any staunchly AI stances are taken into account. Operating and hosting an image-based social media platform is expensive and labor intensive. For Cara, these costs are compounded by the fact that they intend to scan for AI generated images—something which does not even reliably work. There is also, of course, the need for ongoing protections/moderation to prevent illegal/abusive content.
Then consider that the users of Cara are going to be strongly inclined to try to ferret out and report anything they suspect has even a whiff of AI. This is a content moderation nightmare. Either you're too strict and creators of non-AI content get frustrated for being blocked or banned—whether because of false positives or false accusations. Or you're too lenient and anti-Ai creatives rebel when the platform sees increasing amounts of content that contains at least some AI. Put all of this together and you have a recipe for at best a walled garden and at worst a corral of recrimination.
It remains to be seen whether the masses care enough about their selfies and Insta stories being digested by AI to want to abandon their established accounts and the network effects of entrenched social media. To give an example, Elon Musk is a liar, a racist, and increasingly unhinged. (Sorry, but facts are facts, Muskrats.) But this has yet to bring about Twitter's complete downfall. It thus seems unlikely that normies are going to abandon their social media over generative AI concerns. This would mean that artists who restrict themselves to Cara miss out on essential opportunities to market to a broad audience.
I therefore see three main categories of possible outcome for Cara:
One is short- or long-term collapse. Maybe they get more near-term angel investing or crowd funding, maybe they don't. But either way the money runs out someday and the party ends. Another possibility is that they are forced to renege on some of their promises/principles. This could mean anything from bringing in advertising and paid content, to softening their stance/enforcement regarding artwork that incorporates AI. And finally they could experience a miracle and discover that angel investors and/or the public at large are willing to pay in perpetuity for an ad-free and ostensibly "AI-free" experience. (I use the scare quotes because keeping all AI out still seems like a losing battle).
All in all, the chances that Cara continues to exist in a form that pleases its current user base seem remote. But if this turns out to be the dawn of mass-scale, wholly noncommercial social media for high-quality art, then I'll celebrate right along with the artists.

2024.06.07 20:47 GoAheadMMDay Warnings of 911 in Back To The Future

Warnings of 911 in Back To The Future
Marty brings his hands to his mouth and shouts out loud, “I have to tell you about the future!”
The creators of Back To The Future said the same thing.
\"I have to tell you about the future!\"
It was known
The destruction of New York's Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 was not a surprise attack. The plan for 911 was known two decades before, as far back as the early 1980's.
Details of 911 appear in the blockbuster trilogy “Back To The Future”, the first of which was released in 1985.
I first learned that Back To The Future contained warnings of 911 from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPJQ-1Y8jfY.
In this post, I expand on the examples presented in that video, providing additional supporting arguments of my own. I include a few more 911 warnings I spotted myself.
So come along and enjoy this ride, as we rupture the space-time continuum and create a paradox of our own.
Terrorist attack at Twin Pines Mall
Pics 1 & 2
In the first Back To The Future movie, a terrorist attack (pic 1) takes place at the Twin Pines Mall (pic 2).
This is a warning of a future terrorist attack on the Twin Towers on 911. “Pines” represent the towers. “Twin” is… well… just plain obvious.
A terrorist attack at Twin Pines Mall - filmed 1985.
A terrorist attack at Twin Towers - happened 2001.
The numbers
Pics 3 & 4
When Marty first arrives at the mall, the clock reads 1:16, which is 911 upside down (pic 3).
When Doc shows Marty two synchronized watches, the time is 1:19, which is 911 backwards (pic 4).
911 once; 911 twice.
If you don’t like having to turn the mall clock upside down or flip the watches backwards, don’t worry. There is an even clearer reference to the numbers 911 later on - in their proper order.
Lone Pine Mall
Pics 5 & 6
When Marty returns to the mall at the end of the first movie, Twin Pines Mall (pic 5) becomes Lone Pine Mall (pic 6).
You probably already see how this foretells 911. Let’s break it down.
Pics 7 & 8
The site where the mall stands used to be owned by Old Man Peabody, who had two cherished pine trees (pic 7). When the mall was built, both pine trees were still on the property, and so the mall was named Twin Pines Mall.
When Marty travels back in time, he travels from the mall directly to Peabody’s land. Same spot, just different time period.
While trying to escape, Marty knocks down one of Peabody’s two pine trees (pic 8). Thus, two pines become a lone pine after they were crashed into.
Pics 9 & 10
This foreshadows the aftermath of 911, when the Twin Towers (pic 9) were replaced by a lone tower (pic 10) after they were crashed into.
What is more, the replacement tower is named One World Trade Center. “Lone” vs “One” – even the name is a near-perfect match. Even the name!
Looks like an airplane
Pics 11 & 12
When Peabody and his family first see the car (pic 11), Peabody describes it as “an airplane without wings”.
Later, the car was modified to fly (pic 12).
Add these details together and what do we have? A car described as a plane, which later flies, that crashes into a tree symbolizing one of New York’s Twin Towers – precisely what happened years later on 911 (pics 13-14).
Pics 13 & 14
Towers on fire
After the Twin Towers were struck on 911, they began burning. The makers of Back To The Future anticipated this and depicted it.
Pics 15 & 16
Near the end of the first movie, as the DeLorean takes Marty back to his time, the car’s tires leave two twin tracks on the road (pic 15). The twin tracks are on fire, an unmistakable depiction of the Twin Towers burning.
Doc then runs between the burning twin tracks, shrieking loudly (pic 16). As he runs from the top of the tracks to the bottom, he looks and sounds like people falling off a building - a haunting foreshadowing of 911.
Pic 17
Yet the burning twin tracks represent more than just the Twin Towers on fire. As the camera pulls out, a store sign in the shape of the number 9 comes into view on the left (pic 17). The sign and burning twin tracks together form an undeniable 911.
Notice that the placement of this store sign is perfect for indicating 911. It is not at the end of the street at the top of the twin tracks, nor is it to the right, but is perfectly placed to the left of the burning 11.
Notice too that the sign could have been a 3, or a 5, or a 7, or a J, or an S, and would still have served its function of pointing to the store. But it was none of those shapes. It was a 9. And the camera pulls out enough to capture the whole 9 perfectly.
Where the earlier examples of the mall sign and watches might be too much of a stretch to suggest 911, this 911 at the plaza leaves no room for denial.
The falling towers
On 911, after the Twin Towers had burned for a time, they ultimately fell. So too in the Back To The Future movies. The first movie ended with the Twin Towers on fire. In the second movie, we see the Twin Towers falling.
Pics 18 & 19
Jennifer is on the sofa in her future home (pic 18). She looks up in astonishment. Through her look, the movie is telling us… “Pay attention to this. This is shocking.”
What is Jennifer looking at that shocks her so? She is looking at the TV.
She then exclaims, “I’m in the future!” (Pic 19). With this, they have taken us to the future - to 911. And this is what we see…
Pics 20 - 23
A moment later in this scene, we see two pine trees projected on the TV screen (pic 20). When Lorraine clicks the remote, the pine trees are replaced by New York’s Twin Towers (pic 21). This confirms our understanding that the pine trees really do represent New York’s Twin Towers.
The TV then glitches and scrolls upward (pic 22). As the frames scroll up, the towers appear to be rising.
But notice that one of the characters is upside down. Since he is the closest character to the audience, the movie is telling us to look at the TV from his perspective. And what does he see? As the TV frames scroll up, he sees the towers falling down (pic 23). He sees New York’s Twin Towers falling down.
Pic 24
All three characters are looking at the Twin Towers on TV (pic 24), just like millions of people were viewing the actual towers on their TV’s on 911.
Lorraine points directly at the towers. But notice the torch of the Statue of Liberty at the bottom of the shot. Why is the torch of the Statue of Liberty in this shot? To create the impression of being in New York City; that the characters in this scene are people in New York looking at and pointing to the Twin Towers on 911.
Talk about pointing something out! This is as pointed as it can get.
911 was staged
Yet the creators of Back To The Future might be telling us one thing more about this future terrorist attack. They might be telling us it is not a real terrorist attack at all. It might be a staged, agency operation.
Pics 25 - 27
In all three movies, as the DeLorean passes through the time barrier, it is racing toward things related to cinema... ie: the stage.
The first time the car breaks the time barrier, it is racing toward a film booth (pic 25). The second time, it is racing toward a movie theater (pic 26). In the third movie, the DeLorean breaks the time barrier while racing toward a drive-in movie screen (pic 27).
Though the Twin Towers really were tragically brought down, the creators of Back To The Future may have been telling us that the circumstances behind the disaster were - like in cinema - not what they appear to be.
(For more on the possibility that 911 was a staged pretext for war, see my other post: https://www.reddit.com/conspiracy/comments/1aghwh3/we\_are\_being\_led\_into\_world\_war\_3/).
Whether 911 was staged or not, the big question here is… Where did the creators of Back To The Future get this information? How did they know about 911 twenty years in advance?
Fortunately for us, they put that in the movie too.

Marty received knowledge of a specific event (pic 28). What event? A tower being struck (pic 29). The message came with an urgent plea… save the tower.
In the real world, a group of people learned that New York’s Twin Towers would be struck. They wanted to save the towers.
Message delivered
Pics 30 - 33
Marty asked Doc for his help getting back home, and delivered the message of a tower being struck (pic 30).
In the real world, the people who learned about 911 delivered their message of the Twin Towers being struck to Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale (pic 31), asking for their help in getting the warning out.
Rob and Bob suggested making a movie about it (pic 32), to get their message out through cinema – which was worked into the movies by Doc instructing Marty to go through the movie screen (pic 33).
The message
The warning of 911 is woven throughout the movies, along with an urgent plea to avoid the disaster.
Pic 34
Marty writes in a letter to Doc: “Please take whatever precautions are necessary to prevent this terrible disaster.” (Pic 34)
Notice the letter was made fully visible in the movie. This is the message the creators of Back To The Future wanted to announce.
Notice too they used the word “disaster”. While the shooting of a man (Doc) is indeed terrible, referring to it as a disaster is a little on the strong side. In using the word “disaster”, the creators were really referring to 911, which could truly be called a disaster. The even spelled the word "Disaster" with a capital "D", even though it isn't at the beginning of a sentence.
Also note the word “please” is underlined. The creators were imploring.
The source of the message
But where did the people behind Back To The Future get their knowledge of 911? The people who contacted Rob and Bob with knowledge that the Twin Towers would be struck... Where did they get that information?
As with everything else, this too was worked into the movie… The woman in the plaza (pic 35).
Pics 35 & 36
She is the one who gave Marty the flyer about the tower (pic 36).
She is the source of that knowledge. She knows every detail about the tower, including how and when it was struck. She also gives Marty the urgent instruction to save the tower.
Pics 37 - 39
The woman is positioned directly beneath a store sign that reads “The Third Eye” (pic 37). An eye inside a pyramid is used instead of the word “eye”. This symbol is called the “all seeing eye”, and it lines-up perfectly with the woman’s forehead.
This shot replicates mysticism iconography (pic 38), where the third eye is depicted on the forehead as a symbol of enlightenment. The all-seeing-eye symbol is also used in Freemason iconography (pic 39).
Add these details together and what do we have? Marty learned of the destruction of the clock tower from a woman depicted with her forehead directly beneath the all-seeing-eye of the Freemasons. With this shot, the creators of Back To The Future are telling us they learned about the destruction of the Twin Towers from Freemasons.
911 was approved
Pics 40 & 41
Another link to the Freemasons is shown on the clock at Lone Pine Mall (pic 40). When Marty returns to the mall at the end of the first movie, the clock reads 1:33.
33 is a special number in Freemasonry (pic 41). The number 3 represents completeness, such as the 3 dimensions of the physical universe. It also denotes stability, since 3 is the minimum number of legs a table needs to remain upright. Doubling the number 3 as in 33 signifies achieving a complete and stable degree of enlightenment, which is why 33 is the highest level of membership in Freemasonry.
By placing the number 33 together with Lone Pine Mall, the creators of Back To The Future are telling us that 911 has Freemasons behind it, approved by those at the highest level.
Why so cryptic?
But why present this information about 911 in such a cryptic way, with so much symbolism? If they wanted to warn us about 911, why not just come out and tell us plainly and clearly?
To be frank, I don’t know why. All we can do is speculate.
Perhaps they were under oath. The people trying to sound the warning about 911 were likely Masons who did not agree with other Masons concerning 911. Coming out and publicly denouncing the plans of their own fraternity would have landed them in serious trouble.
Another possibility is that while the date of 911 was known so long in advance, the year was not. Consider what came immediately after 911. 911 opened the door to US invasions overseas. 911 could not be launched until the US was ready for such operations in foreign lands. The country needed to be prepared politically, economically, and militarily. Only then would the year for 911 be chosen.
So even though the plan for 911 was known as far back as the early 1980’s, not knowing the year was problematic. What could anyone do about it? Ground all flights on September 11 of every single year for decades? No one would take such a warning seriously, nor would authorities take such precautions.
Yet another possibility is to prepare people and society for planned changes, guiding people into becoming more accepting of them. "Predictive Programming", as it has come to be called, is the "theory that the government or other higher-ups are using fictional movies or books as a ... tool to make the population more accepting of planned future events." - https://u.osu.edu/vanzandt/2018/04/18/predictive-programming
Still another possibility is simply to clear their conscience. If the ones planning the disaster make their plans known ahead of time, they believe they will escape its moral and spiritual consequences, leaving them free of guilt. This is similar to a country announcing a planned attack on a city or facility through television, radio, and dropping leaflets from planes. They warn people of their planned attack, indicating its precise location, date and time, in order to escape culpability for any loss of life that may result. The idea is: "We warned you. If you are injured or killed, it is your fault, not ours." As unbelievable as it sounds, such twisted reasoning is used by governments and militaries to this day.
One final possibility I can think of is that the creators of the Back To The Future movies realized they would not be able to stop the 911 disaster, and produced the movies for posterity’s sake. They wanted people to know the truth - that it was not a surprise attack, but was a planned operation approved long in advance by people connected to powerful organizations. They wanted people to know… it was known.
As Marty often said, “That’s heavy.”
