(As always, flyers are out Wednesdays, most store sales for the new flyer start on Thursdays)
Adonis - Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $5.99 per lb -- Fair price for chicken breast and a common price at Adonis. Lower is definitely possible, where $4.50/lb is a "best target".
- Chicken legs - $2.49 per lb -- Fair price for chicken legs and a common price at Adonis. The stock-up price target is about $1.50/lb.
- Fresh Sea Bass (free cleaning) - $6.88 per lb -- Nice! Fresh fish!
- Red Sea Bream (free cleaning) - $9.99 per lb -- Ohh, more bream this week! Nice to see!
- Shrimp skewers - $0.99 each -- Ad is a little unclear, but if these are 99c a skewer, that ain't bad!
- Red vine tomatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Excellent price for tomatoes!
- Flat cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Good price for cabbage.
- Cucumber - $0.99 each -- Great price for a cucumber, but watch out for other deals.
- Blueberries - $2.99 full pint -- Good price for a full pint.
- Boursin cheese - $4.99 150g pack -- Nice!
- Jarlsberg - $9.99 300g -- Decent. We've seen Jarlsberg go as low as $2/100g.
- Camembert (Le Rustique) - $9.99 250g -- Fair price if it's really good camembert. You can score deals on soft cheeses like this that can swing that price down to about $2.50/lb, but it's rarer and rarer these days.
- Brie, triple cream (l'Extra) - $9.99 300g -- Fair price for really good brie.
- Deli - Havarti (Casetelo) - $1.99 per 100g -- Great price for havarti. Tasty stuff in a nice sandwich!
- Deli - Beef bologna (Solmaz) - $1.49 per 100g -- Cheap deli!
- Deli - Chicken breast (Alzahraa) - $1.29 per 100g -- Cheap deli!
- Deli - Turkey breast (Schneiders) - $1.99 per 100g -- Great price for medium-brand deli.
- Deli - Prosciutto (San Daniele) - $2.79 per 100g -- Great price!
- Produce Price Rating: Medium, but always has well-priced chicken, the deli meat sale rotations are always fantastic, and just the overall variety of goods is refreshing. Personal favourite store.
Farm Boy - Atlantic Snow Crab - $7.99 per lb -- Fun seafood option. Definitely a treat, but might make for a nice dinner!
- Bacon (Leadbetter) - $3.99 375g pack -- Not the cheapest option in bacon, but it's a step up from value-brand bacon.
- Vidalia onions - $1.88 per lb -- Ouufff, that hurts my feelings. Vidalias are my favourite onion, but at nearly $2/lb when regular ones shouldn't go over 80c/lb, it's a tough one to swallow...
- Cucumber - $0.99 each -- Great price for a cucumber, but watch out for other deals.
- Deli - Black Forest Ham (Brandt) - $1.99 per 100g -- Good deal on good ham!
- Deli - Chicken breast roast (Maple Lodge) - $2.49 per 100g -- Good deal on nice deli.
- Produce Price Rating: High
Farmers Pick (can be a little late on their flyer) (
https://www.farmerspick.ca/flyer-specials)
Food Basics - Chicken breast (boneless skinless, Maple Lodge) - $4.98 per lb -- Good price for chicken breast!
- Bacon (Leadbetter) - $3.88 375g pack -- Like the Leadbetter's at Farmboy, it's step-up bacon, and it's a good sale price.
- Atlantic salmon - $10.88 per lb -- Fair price for salmon.
- Carrots - $1.25 2lb bag -- Awesome!
- Onions - $1.25 2lb bag -- Awesome!
- Broccoli - $1.25 per crown -- Great price!
- Mini cucumbers - $1.99 6-pack -- Nice! Good price!
- Apples (various) - $2.98 3lb bag -- Fair price for apples, but mind the type you buy. Some varieties bruise up easily and you could easily lose a few soldiers if not careful.
- Lemons - $2.98 2lb bag -- Fair price for lemons.
- Oranges - $1.88 3lb bag -- Great price for oranges!! That's 60c/lb!!
- Blueberries - $1.88 half pint -- Good price for blueberries. About 1.50-175 for a half-pint is good.
- Mango - $0.67 each -- Wow! Haven't seen a 67c mango in months!
- Cantaloupe - $2.98 each -- Good ol' $3 melon.
- Mini watermelon - $3.98 each -- Great price for a small watermelon!
- Corned beef (Hereford) - $2.98 340g can -- Not the most exciting ingredient, but it's good to have one or two cans in the pantry.
- SPAM - $2.98 340g can -- Same as the corned beef.
- Smoked ham (Selection) - $8.00 675g toupie -- That works out to just about 1.18/100g, which is a good rate on ham for sandwiches, or frying up for a meal.
- Tofu (Fountaine santé) - $5.00 For 2x 400g packs -- Good price for tofu. $2.50 for 400g is "nice average". If you're paying $2, it's a good deal. $3+ and you're either outside of town, or you're paying for a special brand or dessert tofu.
- Silk plant bev - $2.88 1.74-1.89L -- Excellent deal on the Silk stuff. This is commonly $4-5 per jug, Under $3 is a good deal.
- Produce Price Rating: Low to medium low
FoodLand - Pork chops (loin cut) - $2.99 per lb -- Fair price for decent cuts of pork. Given these are boneless, you're a meat gavel away from schnitzel.
- Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $5.88 per lb -- Fair price for chicken breast. Lower is definitely possible, where $4.50/lb is the a "best target".
- Beef cross-rib roast (AAA) - $7.99 per lb -- Fair price for beef, but not my price-point. I prefer to see at least $6/lb before I start entertain these cuts and products. Though, I'm maybe a poor judge as I'm not really a fancy steak kinda guy. But, that's also how I save tons of cash. As the saying goes, the customer is always right in matters of taste!
- Atlantic salmon - $10.99 per lb -- Fair price for salmon.
- Brick cheese (Compliments) - $5.49 400g bar -- Not the best price for cheap brick cheese, but it's ok. It's at least 50c my standard go-to rate. But Foodland isn't an "in-town" brand, so the price scales higher as you move out of dense city areas.
- Luncheon meat (Holiday) - $1.99 340g can -- I think this is similar to SPAM, but I've never had it personally.
- Produce Price Rating: Medium-high to high.
Freshco (price matcher)
- Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $10.00 4-pack -- Marge Simpson grunts, these products are deceiving. Throw these on the scale and make sure they're at least 2lb.
- Smoked sausages (Compliments) - $7.99 900g pack -- These come in a couple of different flavours, including "bacon cheddar". Works out to $4/lb, which ain't bad. I think these are pre-cooked as well. You can score good raw sausage for about the same price or just a bit more, but it'll be much tougher to find.
- Sweet peppers - $3.99 4-pack -- Fair price. Not the best, but not the worst either.
- Hothouse tomatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Excellent price for tomatoes!
- Corn - $2.00 for 5 ears -- Excellent! 40c an ear!!!
- Celery - $2.99 per head -- Ok price for celery. Lots of places charge $4 for nice big heads of celery...
- Bok choy, Napa, Flat Cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Amazing price for choy and napa, fair for cabbage. The other day, I made a choy salad with a little light dressing. Super tasty.
- Green onions - $0.99 per bunch -- $1/bunch is basically the new normal when it comes to green onions.
- Ginger - $1.99 per lb -- Good price. You'll often find it more in the $3/lb range.
- Garlic - $1.29 5-pack -- Nice!
- Asian pears - $1.88 per lb -- Nice! Not bad for a fancier fruit. In season, you can score these easily under 1.50/lb
- Apples (Gala) - $1.49 per lb -- Not bad for a good apple, though it's still a bit high. 1.25/lb would be the better rate. But, short of sending your kids off to school with a head of bok choy in their lunch, I don't know what we're supposed to do here...
- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $4.44 400g bar -- Nice! Sub-$5 brick cheese!
- Silk plant bev - $3.49 1.74-1.89L -- Nice little sale price. Down from about $5 this week.
- Carole's Japanese Cheesecake - $8.88 500g cake -- All I can think of is Charlie from It's Always Sunny, in the mail room freaking out about Pepe Silvia, and how there's no Carole in HR.
- Dr Oetkey pizzas (Ristorante) - $4.49 whatever -- Dude, what happened to these?! They used to be, like, $2-2.50 in 2020.
- Produce Price Rating: medium low (more on the medium side)
Giant Tiger (*note the VIP prices; sales begin today) (price matcher)
- Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $6.97 500-818g -- Aaahhhh boyyyy! Freakin' lotteries again. Limit of 5. Assuming there's 650g in a pack, that'S 1.5lb for $7, which is about 4.66/lb, which is good. Find a scale and check the weights!
- Bacon (Olymel) - $3.88 375g pack -- Like the Leadbetter's at Farmboy, it's step-up bacon, and it's a good sale price.
- Breakfast sausage (Olymel) - $3.88 375g pack -- Not feeling bacon, you can swap out to sausages.
- Celery - $1.88 per head -- Great price, but careful, these are often smaller heads. Two of these is about the same as one big $4 head at Basics, for example.
- Iceberg lettuce - $1.88 per head -- Good price for lettuce!
- Green onions - $1.88 per bunch -- This may sound pricey, but I found the bunches have suffered some shrinkage. Last I went to GT, these were bigger bunches. Mind your step when it comes to green onions, I guess.
- Salad kit (Dole) - $1.97 340g bag -- Great price for a salad kit. These can range easily into the $4 range. In fact, Basics has them for $4 this week. So, consider these half-price salad kits.
- Mini cucumbers - $1.97 6-pack -- Nice, $2 is a good rate. We were seeing $4 6-packs some weeks (though, I doubt we've seen the end of those days...)
- Apples (Royal Gala) - $2.88 3lb bag -- Good rate on galas. On that $1/lb target.
- Lemons - $2.88 2lb bag -- Fair price for lemons.
- Clementines - $2.88 2lb bag -- GREAT price for clementines!
- Cream cheese (Lactantia) - $2.47 250g bar -- Great price! Can often range into $4 for the same bar.
- Dr Oetkey pizzas (Ristorante) - $4.97 whatever -- What the... How did it get worse from Freshco to GT....
- Produce Price Rating: Generally on the low side.
Green Fresh Supermarket (Vanier) (check
https://greenfreshottawa20.wixsite.com/greenfreshottawa) * Produce Price Rating: Usually very competitive, catering to Asian cuisine. Warning: their newest sales start on Fridays - so this is a late advertising of their sales.
IGA (price matcher)
- Lobster - $8.77 per lb -- Scene Member Price.
- Bacon (Mere Michel) - $3.99 375g pack -- More $4 mid-range-ish bacon going around.
- Greenouse tomatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Nice! Another great $1/lb tomato deal!
- Blackberries - $1.44 half pint -- Scene Member Price.
- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $3.99 400g bar -- Awesome!
- Dr Oetkey pizzas (Ristorante) - $3.47 whatever -- Bon, criss! And even then it's still too pricey for show shitty these pizzas are. What's a walk-in special at a pizza place these days?
- Produce Price Rating: Medium
Independent - Beef brisket - $4.99 per lb -- Awesome price for beef brisket.
- Chicken breast or thighs (boneless skinless) - $4.99 per lb -- Good price. Go for the chicken and get out.
- Pork tenderloin - $3.49 per lb -- Fair price for tenderloin.
- Avocado - $2.49 each -- You know, you wanna give them the benefit of the doubt, but at 2.50 for an avocado, it better be big enough to kill a man, whether eaten or via bludgeoning.
- Blueberries - $2.77 full pint -- Awesome price!
- Brick cheese (Black Diamond) - $4.88 400g bar -- Sub-$5 cheese is always welcome.
- Produce Price Rating: fairly high with few exceptions
Loblaws - Pork tenderloin - $3.49 per lb -- Fair price for tenderloin.
- Asparagus - $2.99 per lb -- Not bad for asparagus. We've seen better, but it's also not $4/lb we can commonly see.
- Salad Kits (PC) - $11.00 for 2 300g-ish -- We had mentioned earlier that GT has Dole-branded kits, same size, for $2. At $2, Dole could spit in my salad, and I still wouldn't look at these PC kits.
- Bok choy - $2.99 per lb -- Freshco has theirs for 99c/lb.
- Strawberries - $1.99 454g shell -- Awesome price for strawberries! Let's hope the quality is there. Sometimes cheap is cheap for a reason.
- Brick cheese (Black Diamond) - $4.88 400g bar -- Sub-$5 cheese is always welcome.
- Produce Price Rating: fairly high with few exceptions
Provigo - Atlantic Lobster (live) - $7.99 per lb -- Good price on lobster.
- Beef striploin steak - $7.88 per lb -- Good price on steak, but no indication of the grade.
- Chicken legs - $2.49 per lb -- Faiaverage price for chicken legs. Same as Adonis.
- Strawberries - $2.44 454g shell -- Not as good as the 1.99 deal, but still quite good.
- Brick cheese (Ptit Quebec) - $4.88 400g bar -- Sub-$5 cheese is always welcome. Took some digging, but I found out that it's the same owners as those of Cracker Barrel, hence the easy-same-price swap between Provigo and Loblaws.
- Produce Price Rating: fairly high with few exceptions
Maxi (price matcher)
- Whole chicken - $1.99 per lb -- Awesome price for chicken! Learn to carve up a chicken. There's real savings there!
- Pork chops - $2.88 per lb -- Fair price for pork chops.
- Atlantic Salmon - $8.99 per lb -- Good price for salmon, under that $10/lb target.
- Small potatoes (Yellow, Russet) - $0.94 3lb bag -- Wow! 31c/lb! That's really good!
- Celery - $2.49 per head -- Good price for celery. Let's hope the heads are big and nice, and not "size-scaled according to price".
- Beefsteak tomatoes - $1.49 per lb -- Good price for tomatoes, but we're seeing some $1/lb sales. But if the quality is there, don't hesitate.
- Sweet peppers (green and red) - $3.99 4-pack -- Fair going price for peppers.
- Blueberries - $1.87 full pint -- WOW! Insanely good price for blueberries.
- Apples (Imperfect) - $6.00 6lb bag -- But is it 6lb?! Weigh the bag on a scale and check. Too much funny business in the fixed-weight products lately.
- Brick cheese (Ptit Quebec) - $4.87 400g bar -- Sub-$5 cheese is always welcome. Took some digging, but I found out that it's the same owners as those of Cracker Barrel, hence the easy-same-price swap between Provigo and Loblaws.
- Flour (Five Roses, Robinhood) - $13.99 10kg bag -- Hmm, these bags have seen a small increase from $11-12...
- Dry pasta (Primo) - $1.33 750g packs -- Great price! Stock-up a little!
- Produce Price Rating: Generally medium low pricing! This store can post some impressive deals at times.
Metro - Beef prime rib roast and steaks (AA) - $8.99 per lb -- I want to like this sale. It's prime rib, which is a nice cut, but I wish it was AAA grade. Best go in with options in mind, and make your decision when you see the meat. Give it a poke, check the fat lines, make sure it's going to be nice and tender.
- Pork loin chops or roast - $2.99 per lb -- If the beef doesn't look good, you've got a pork parachute.
- Chicken breast and thighs (boneless skinless, Prime) - $5.99 per lb -- Not the best price, but definitely a little lower than regular.
- Strawberries - $1.99 454g shell -- Awesome price for strawberries! Again, always mind the quality at these prices.
- Burrata - $20.00 2x 250g balls -- This cheese is stupendous. It's a treat and priced accordingly, but worth trying. Think of super-fresh mozz balls or fior de latte, but with a mozz-cottage-cheese thing going on inside.
- Dr Oetkey pizzas (Ristorante) - $3.49 whatever -- How is it that we go from $5 for these, to $3.50... That's such a huge swing...
- Produce Price Rating: High. Kinda like Sobeys. You can see a 50% average mark-up compared to a lot of other stores. It's nice produce, but it costs you.
No Frills (price matcher)
- Chicken drumsticks - $1.87 per lb -- Good enough price for chicken drumsticks. I'd rather see legs at this price, but this is fair.
- Smoked sausages (No Name) - $6.99 900g pack -- Goodness these look a LOT like the Compliments bag at Freshco lol...
- Peameal bacon - $2.88 per lb -- Interesting. Sometimes it's hard to find peameal for less than $4. Meanwhile, I've never bought the stuff, and I don't think I've seen many put it in their cart. I don't get it lol.
- Atlantic Salmon - $9.77 per lb -- On that $10/lb target.
- Corn - $0.33 per ear -- Great price for ears of corn!!
- Potatoes (Red, Yellow, Russet) - $4.99 10lb bag -- Fair sale price for potatoes. Regular prices can float easily over $7 now...
- Blueberries - $1.99 full pint -- Another fantastic blueberry sale!
- Pears (Bartlett) - $0.88 per lb -- Awesome price for pears!!!
- Milk (Neilson) - $4.88 4L bagged -- Great sale price on milk considering it's about $6-7 at the very least.
- Canned tuna (Ocean's) - $0.99 170g -- There's some funny business in the flyer this week. There's, like, 3 different cans of tuna. This one for 99c, a Clover Leaf for 2.99, and another Ocean's for 2.99.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally quite low, selectively amazing for some items.
Produce Depot (usually a little late on the flyer)
https://producedepot.ca/ - Ground beef (medium) - $4.99 per lb -- Not bad. Not a stock-up price, but this would be good burger material.
- Beef top sirloin steak - $7.99 per lb -- No grade mentioned, so mind your step. But if the quality looks good, it'd make a great treat!
- Cod fillet (fresh) - $11.99 per lb -- Fair price for fresh cod.
- Cucumber - $0.49 each -- WOW WOW! That's a DEAL! Meanwhile, Loblaws and affiliates can't sell us a cucumber for less than $1 on average, or 2.49 for a fancy organic one...
- Flat cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Nice! Great to see cheap cabbage. I think we're going to see a resurgence of hardier, self-stable veg like this becoming popular.
- Sweet peppers - $1.99 per lb -- Great price for peppers. It's hard to find off-season peppers for less than $3/lb.
- Oranges - $1.29 per lb -- Not amazing, but still pretty good. $1/lb is really the better target. But, a couple of oranges won't risk the coop.
- Strawberries - $1.69 454g shell -- WOW! Produce Depot coming around to prove a point! These won't last, so plan your trip if you want these!
- Cheese counter - Fontina (Castello) - $2.79 per 100g -- Nice cheese for a good price. It's not cheap per se, but it's on point with prices for artisanal cheese.
- Deli - Pastrami - $2.39 per 100g -- Great price for nice deli meat!!!
- Produce Price Rating: Medium-low with very competitive specials on a shortened flyer. The small flyer is nice because it doesn't uselessly feature $6 heads of cauliflower and extremely high-price items that are either a confusion on the consumer, or an insult on the injury of not being able to afford supreme quality items.
Real Canadian Superstore (price matcher)
- Beef sirloin tip roast or steaks - $4.99 per lb -- Great price! I wonder about the grade, and I think I'd sooner do the roast because I know could get a tender bite out of the cooking method, versus fighting a tough steak that'll never rest into anything tender.
- Chicken breast (bone-in, skinless) - $3.99 per lb -- Good price for chicken breast, and bone-in is not bad. Boneless chicken loses out on a lot of flavour and moisture from the bone. And, there's so little bone along the breast that you don't really face the issue of undercooking it like you would with a leg (which requires higher temps or longer cooks, which can dry out if left too long in the oven or on the grill).
- Smoked sausages (No Name) - $9.99 900g pack -- From No Frills to RCSS, it'll cost you $3 to be in the store to get the same sausages...
- Asparagus - $2.99 per lb -- Good price for asparagus. When the crop-outs come through, we can see this dip to $2/lb, but out of that you can see as high as $4/lb.
- Mini cucumbers - $4.00 11-pack -- Well, considering we're seeing so many 6-packs go for $2, you've lose a cucumber with this 11-pack.
- Sweet peppers - $3.50 4-pack -- Great deal on a 4-pack.
- Vidalia onions - $5.99 3lb bag -- Sigh... $2/lb onions... Good onions, but damn...
- Potatoes (Imperfect) - $6.00 15lb bag -- Excellent! Great potato deal here, don't skip these! Pro tip: prep/cook whole potatoes in advance. Steam or pressure cook them, and keep them in the fridge. They slice real easy, and they fry/sauté really easily. Great for breakfasts, and a great alternative to bread.
- Grape tomatoes - $6.00 907g shell -- Great price for grape tomatoes. Freeze the ones that you don't use, and use them for stocks or to throw into soup to stew a bit before serving.
- Strawberries - $3.98 2lb shell -- Great deal. $2/lb, basically. That aligns with other great sales we see on strawberries.
- Pineapple - $3.00 each -- Good price for pineapple. $2 is the better target.
- Cantaloupe - $3.00 each -- Easy to find cantaloupe for $3, $2 occurs here and there. For the amount of melon you get, I don't think it's worth chasing that $1.
- Honeydew and Mini Watermelon - $4.99 each -- Meh prices for these melons. Not terrible, but not the greatest.
- Brick cheese (No Name) - $4.99 400g bar -- $5 brick cheese!
- Deli - Ziggy's Beef deli - $2.50 per 100g -- A consistent returning item and price for decent deli meat.
- Canned tomatoes (PC Blue Menu) - $1.59 796ml can -- Good price for canned tomatoes. Sometimes you can score canned tomatoes for as low as 1.25, 1.50 is still a very good price. $2 is not that great. 1.25 is the real stock-up price.
- Flour (Robinhood, Five Roses) - $11.99 10kg bag -- More and more I stand by having a 10kg bag in the pantry along with a jar of quick rise yeast. Making your own bread is not difficult. It's a fantastic skill to have. And after a dozen loaves, you'll get the hang of it.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally medium-low pricing, selectively amazing for some items.
Sobeys - Chicken breast or thighs (boneless skinless, Compliments) - $5.88 per lb -- Upper-end fair going-rate for chicken breast. It's regular Adonis pricing, and more expensive than some of the better sales we see floating around.
- Chicken breast or thighs (boneless skinless, no antibiotics, Compliments) - $6.99 per lb -- Interesting to see the no-antibiotics version be $1/lb more. I wonder how that scales across all stores and brands... Seems to me $1/lb extra isn't bad.
- Pork tenderloin - $2.99 per lb -- Scene Member Price.
- Pork back rib - $2.99 per lb -- Scene Member Price.
- Beef brisket - $5.99 per lb -- $6/lb for AA grade ain't bad. Independent has the better deal on brisket, but choices must be made.
- Beef eye of round - $6.99 per lb -- It's a big cut of beef, but if you know how to spot and cut around the grain, you could get beef cubes, strips and marinating steaks out of this very easily.
- Scallops - $21.99 per lb -- Now, I usually don't recommend scallops, but I saw some scallop prices range of $28-32/lb. Farm Boy is just charging $3 for 2 scallops. LOL. And then you can score 300g frozen for $10 at Super C. Or get Metro bay scallops for $10/lb. No wonder I always go cross-eyed with scallop pricing.
- Cucumbers - $0.99 each -- Great price. Not the 50c sales we're seeing come up, but certainly better than some historical pricing we've seen.
- Red vine tomatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Awesome price for tomatoes!
- Brick cheese (Compliments) - $4.99 400g -- Good ol' $5 brick cheese!
- Cooked and frozen pork ribs (Compliments) - $13.99 680g pack -- I bring this up not because it's a valid suggestion. I bring this up because the same 1.5lbs of pork rib can cost you as low as $4.50 at the same store with the Scene pricing. You could get 4.5lb of rib. That's at least 2 big racks, which easily feeds 6 people with sides. Take that in. It is non-trivial! Manufactured/prepared products like this suck us dry.
- Dr Oetkey pizzas (Giuseppe) - $4.94 whatever -- Here we go again...
- Produce Price Rating: Generally a high price store, especially for produce. Some items are 50% more than more value-oriented stores. Kinda like Metro, some of the deals can be quite good.
Super C - Chicken legs - $1.29 per lb -- WOW! Stock up! Fire up the BBQ! Marinate those legs over morning in some lemon juice, a little wine, rosemary, garlic, salt, pepper. Makes a great dinner main!
- Ground pork (extra lean) - $2.49 per lb -- WOW! Excellent price for ground pork!
- Tomahawk beef steak - $13.75 per lb -- Now, I'm not one to often suggest steaks like, this, but this is actually a tremendous cut. It might make a nice main for a special dinner!
- Bacon (Mere Michel) - $3.77 375g pack -- Good price for decent bacon. Lots of these sales going around.
- Asparagus - $2.77 per lb -- Great price for asparagus!
- Red vine tomatoes - $0.84 per lb -- WOW! Cheapest in town!
- Cucumbers - $0.99 each -- Nice! Let's hope these cucumber sales keep lowering!!
- Sweet potatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Great price! We're often seeing loose sweet potatoes range into the $1.30+/lb range.
- Blueberries - $0.99 half-pint -- Great price for blueberries!
- Lemons and limes - $0.99 for 3 -- Wow! Awesome price for citrus!
- Cantaloupe - $1.84 each -- Awesome! There's that $2 cantaloupe I was hoping to see!
- Oka cheese (and others!) - $4.75 170g pack -- Fantastic sale!!! Includes Monsier Gustav St-Paulin, Agropur Grand Cheddar, Notre-Dame brie, l'Extra Camembert. That's a lot of nice cheese at a nice price!
- Cheese Sale - $18 for 3 - varies -- Super cheese deal! Lots of varieties avialable, and you can score a lot of different products for basically $6 each.
- Earth's Own plant bev - $7.00 for 2x 1.75-1.89 --
- Dr Oetkey pizzas (Ristorante) - $3.47 whatever -- I think we can agree that these should be about 3.50 these days. Not $5...
- Produce Price Rating: Generally low, but can creep into medium for some items. But, there's always something decent available!
T&T Supermarket https://www.tntsupermarket.com * Produce Price Rating: Usually very competitive, catering to Asian cuisine. Warning: their newest sales start on Fridays - so this is a late advertising of their sales.
Walmart - Whole chicken - $1.94 per lb -- Nice! I love $2/lb chicken! It puts us more on par with those loss-leader cooked chickens.
- Bacon (Great Value) - $2.94 375g pack -- Another bacon sale!
- Dinner sausage (Your Fresh Market) - $4.97 500g 4-pack -- Good price for raw sausage, but it's also close to the fresh-made price you can find at some stores ($6/lb). Note: precooked sausages and wieners are not something we should eat too often. They're packed with extra salts and fats, especially nitrites, which are used as a preservative, and it keeps meat pink. It's found in basically any processed meat you find on the shelf. In small quantities, it's fine, but North America is big on consuming these sorts of products, and some reports suggest 1/2 a hotdog a day, along with the bun and condiments, is linked to a 20% hike in rates of intestinal cancers. Raw fresh-made sausage often do not have nitrites. Just some food for thought and a reminder to check the ingredients listed on the package.
- Vine tomatoes - $1.94 per lb -- Not that great considering the sub-$1/lb sales we've seen.
- Green peppers - $1.94 per lb -- Fair and good rate on green peppers.
- Zucchini - $1.94 per lb -- A little high, but on par with other stores this week.
- Eggplant - $1.94 per lb -- A little high, but on par with other stores this week.
- Green onion - $0.94 for 2 -- Ouuu that's good for green onion. I was just saying $1 was the going-rate. This is half that! Excellent deal!
- Cilantro bunch - $0.94 for 2 -- Oh wow, that's really good for fresh cilantro. Bunches can be 99c, 1.50, or even $2.
- Mango (Red or Ataulfo) - $0.94 for 2 -- Awesome price for mango! There's an opportunity here for a mango salsa!!!
- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $4.94 400g bar -- Good ol' $5 brick!
- Frozen veg (Great Value) - $2.47 500-750g -- More of a reminder to look out for this sort of pricing on frozen veg. Bags of corn, peas, string beans, these can all be had for about this price. And, they're perfect nutritious, if not more than "fresh" on a shelf as it's frozen after being picked when ready, instead of picked early and thrown onto a truck for a thousand kms.
- Olive oil (Sapurito) - $11.94 1L bottle -- Wow! $3 off the average doesn't sound like a lot, but 20% is 20%. It's kind of like "buy 4 and get 1 free".
- Butter (Gay Lea) - $4.94 454g bar -- $5 butter. Still expensive as all heck, but it's not $7-8.
- Produce Price Rating: A little all over the place. Some really good prices between a lot of average pricing.
Costco (Note that these are the online/shipped prices - reduce each item by $3 for in-store pricing)
- NOTE: NEED TO REVISE - --
- Paper Towel (Kirkland) - $27.99 12-roll pack -- 2-ply; 160 sheets
- Paper Towel (Bounty) - $27.49 12-roll pack -- 2-ply; 86 sheets
- Toilet Paper (Kirkland) - $25.99 30-roll pack -- 2-ply; 380 sheets
- Toilet Paper (Cashmere) - $24.99 40-roll pack -- 2-ply; 250 sheets (on sale)
- Dish soap (Dawn Platinum) - $18.99 2.66L -- Food Basics often has this jug for $10!
- Laundry detergent (Purex) - $24.99 9.24L -- 250 loads
- Garbage bags (30 gallon; large) - $15.99 100-pack -- Amazon has Glad standard 74L bags, 100-packs for $23, sometimes less if on sale
- Countertop green bin liners - $21.99 125-pack -- Amazon has Glad Compostable green bin liners 100-packs for $18, sometimes less if on sale
- Produce Price Rating: I need to do a proper check to be sure, but I find it's pretty average. There's an illusion of getting a good deal because of the bulk. Just be careful.
Jean Coutu (new sales start Fridays)
- Produce Price Rating: I have to start checking these just in case...
Shoppers Drug Mart (new sales start Fridays)
- Produce Price Rating: Sometimes they have cheap butter, eggs, and milk on weekends.

2024.04.18 01:54 TheConcreteGhost Found my Avon sample box from 1997
I sold Avon when I graduated from HS. I found my old sample box last weekend and was shocked to find that there were still perfume samples in it. The best part is that the sample envelope is coated in a type of plastic so that there is still perfume sealed in the container. I opened a few to treat myself, but I think I will share a couple with my bffs (best fragranced friends) for the walk down memory/ discovery lane. I found: Millennia (floral woody musk) Has notes of Spices, Nutmeg, Sandalwood, Violet, Lily, Cardamom, Lilac, Orchid, Lotus, Bergamot and Clementine. (1996). { I hung this open sample in my car love😍 it was so awesome to catch in the AC breeze} Odyssey Top Notes: jasmine, tuberose Middle Notes: ylang-ylang Bottom Notes: sandalwood, vetiver. (1982) Butterfly Head: pineapple, orange Heart: orange blossom, rose Base: sandalwood, white musk (1996) Comfort Scents - Delicious Desserts coffee, cacao (1996) Comfort Scents - tropical paradise. coconut, floral notes (1996) Mesmerize (for men) (1992) Head: mandarin, apple Heart: fresh spices, herbs Base: amber, precious woods submitted by TheConcreteGhost to Perfumes [link] [comments]

- Brick cheese (Black Diamond) - $4.99 400g bar -- Nice! $5 cheese!

- Tomato paste (Unico) - $0.89 156ml can -- Fair sale price. I like stocking up at the 75c-ish mark.
- Cube stock (Aurora) - $5.00 for 4x 6-cube packs -- Nice! It sounds like a lot of stock cubes, but it keeps forever. Get some chicken, beef, and maybe mushroom, and herb. You'll have enough variety for lots of different meal ideas.
- Produce Price Rating: High. Kinda like Sobeys. You can see a 50% average mark-up compared to a lot of other stores. It's nice produce, but it costs you.
No Frills (price matcher)
- Pork back rib - $2.99 per lb -- More fair priced pork rib.
- Pork chops (bone-in) - $2.99 per lb -- Nice price for chops. More value than the ribs, but it's a different cut. Slow-cooked chops don't hit like slow-cooked ribs.
- Sausages and meatballs (Marcangelo) - $10.90 1kg pack -- Nice price for good quality sausages and meatballs.

- Navel oranges - $3.99 3lb bag -- Fair price for oranges. A little over that $1/lb mark for standard fruit, but this is ok.

- Gouda cheese curd - $6.00 200g bag -- Gouda curd? Hmm… I've never seen this… And as prices go, it ain't bad. I wonder how it stacks against St-Albert.
- Coconut milk and water (Grace) - $1.25 400-500ml can -- Nice. These are often closer to 1.50+.

- Chiken breast (back removed, skin on) - $3.99 per lb -- Nice! Good price for chicken breast. And having the skin on is actually nice. It lends to a moister end result. Fry these skin down to start, and then bake them skin up.
- Marlin loin steaks - $13.99 per lb -- COOL! Freakin' MARLIN! Rare fish to see on our shelves. Makes for a nice treat!
- Cauliflower - $2.99 per head -- Very nice sale on cauliflower!
- Green beans - $1.69 per lb -- Great price for green beans. It doesn't beat that 88c Metro sale, but still 50% less than average.
- Sweet potatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Nice! I like seeing sweet potatoes at this rate.
- Grape tomatoes - $1.69 pint -- Good price!
- Clementines - $1.49 per lb -- Decent deal on bulk clementines.
- Ground beef (lean, Halal) - $10.00 1.1kg pack -- Or, 5/lb.

- Vine tomatoes - $0.88 per lb -- Awesome price for tomatoes!
- Corn - $3.00 4-pack -- 75c an ear ain't bad, but we saw some 59c ears across Loblaws stores.
- Celery - $2.99 per head -- Fair price for celery. The upper average is about $4 a head, low end sale price is about $2. So, this is right in the middle.
- Potatoes (Imperfect) - $5.00 15lb bag -- Niiiice! I love this deal…
- Mini carrots - $3.99 2lb bag -- 2lb is about 900g, and the smaller bags are usually 340g for $2. So, it's a fair savings.
- Feta (Ziggy's) - $8.00 400g tub -- Fair rate for sale feta.
- Deli - Turkey or Chicken breast (PC Natural) - $2.90 per 100g -- I wish these deli prices were lower, but this is kind of the going rate for poultry deli. Adonis is the only store where you might find a better deal week-to-week.
- Canned tomatoes (Unico) - $1.25 796ml cans -- WOW! STOCK-UP PRICE!!!
- Produce Price Rating: Generally medium-low pricing, selectively amazing for some items.
Sobeys - Beef brisket - $4.99 per lb -- Scene member price. 99c regular, which is really no deal at all.
- Rainbow trout - $10.99 per lb -- Fair price for pink fish.
- Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $5.88 per lb -- Ok price for chicken breast. I'd sooner hit the Metro for chicken breast, hands down.
- Pork shoulder - $3.49 per lb -- Fair price for pork shoulder. $3 would be a nice price to see.
- Ground beef (regular) - $4.99 per lb -- Average sale price for ground beef, especially this week given you can find it for 3.49/lb.
- Corn - $0.77 each -- Scene member price. $5.99/lb regular, which is still very reasonable. But later in the flyer, they advertise another brisket for 7.99/lb. Tread carefully.
- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $4.47 400g bar -- Good ol' $5 cheese.
- Sesame oil (Eight Treasures) - $3.99 185ml bottle -- Hmm! Frescho's sesame oil deal doesn't seem as good now given this bottle has more for less.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally a high price store, especially for produce. Some items are 50% more than more value-oriented stores. Kinda like Metro, some of the deals can be quite good.
Super C - Ground veal (lean) - $3.99 per lb -- Nice! Ground veal for $4/lb. That's cheap!
- Chicken drumsticks and thighs - $1.99 per lb -- Nice! Very good price for drumsticks and thighs. It's not often you'll find them for less, and it's usually a hunt across town to get them. If you're in the area, get some, and stock up a little.
- Beef cross rib roast - $4.99 per lb -- WOW! Great price for beef! No grade indicated, so probably sourced from Mexico. So, mileage may vary on the quality of the cut. But it's still a great price. I wouldn't pass it up.
- Beef stewing cubes - $4.99 per lb -- WOW! Great price again for beef, just cubed this time!
- Pork shoulder - $2.99 per lb -- Aha! There's my $3/lb shoulder!
- Cod fillets (fresh) - $9.99 per lb -- Nice! Cod is usually a little pricier, so to find it at $10/lb is noteable.
- Cucumber - $0.99 each -- Nice! $1 cuces!
- Vine tomatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Great price for tomatoes!
- Eggplant - $0.99 per lb -- Awesome price for eggplant! Usually closer to $2/lb or more.,
- Zucchini - $0.99 per lb -- Awesome price for zucchini!
- Radishes - $0.99 per bunch -- Great price for radishes! Hard to find them for less this time of year.
- Green onions - $0.99 per bunch -- Nice!
- Green cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Nice! Not as many good cabbage deals going around, so this is fair!
- Rutabaga - $0.99 per lb -- Nice!
- Pears (Bartlett, Bosc) - $0.99 per lb -- Nice! $1/lb fruit is a great rate!
- Red Delicious apples - $0.99 per lb -- Nice! $1/lb fruit is a great rate!
- Blueberries - $1.88 170g shell -- Good price for blueberries!
- Pineapple - $1.99 each -- Awesome! Snap-up a couple of these! Next time they're on sale at Basics, I'm getting a few and I'm going to try my hand at making a pineapple cider.
- Cretons (Norel) - $5.99 300g tub -- Cretons can range quite a bit in price. Some places sell half the weigh for only a $1 or so less.
- Canned tuna (Clover Leaf) - $0.99 170g can -- Great price for canned tuna!
- Tofu (soft or dessert, Sunrise) - $0.99 300g pack -- While it's on the soft and dessert kind, this is half the price at last compared to most weeks
Walmart - Bacon (Deli Express) - $3.27 375g pack -- Fair price for bacon. I'm not sure of the brand and quality, however. It should be decent, but tread carefully and make sure the fat lines aren't too thick,
- Mushrooms - $0.94 227g shell -- AWESOME! This is a great rate on mushrooms given the average going rate is about $4/lb.
- Romaine lettuce - $1.94 3-pack -- Nice price for lettuce!! Haven't seen a $2 3-pack in a while.
- Brick cheese (Armstong) - $4.87 400g -- More cheap brick cheese. Always have a bar in your fridge.
- Canned tuna (Clover Leaf) - $0.97 170g can -- Nice! More cheap tuna! Makes for easy weekend lunch sandwiches.
- Tooth paste and toothbrushes (Colgate, Crest) - $0.84 95-100ml -- This is a good deal! Toothpaste often floats between $1-2 a tube.
- Earth's Own plant bev - $3.47 1.75-1.89L -- Nice! A little bit of a discount. Not "Earth shattering" but it "holds its Own" lol… Bad punnery…
- Produce Price Rating: A little all over the place. Some really good prices between a lot of average pricing.
Costco (Note that these are the online/shipped prices - reduce each item by $3 for in-store pricing)

2024.04.14 18:37 EmeraldDahlia My current favorites from VS
Hey y'all! Just thought I'd share my current favs from Victoria's Secrets bodycare line since the VS sub is vast dark wasteland of empty despair lol. Light and Happy: my God, a scent has never made me emotional but boy did this one. I initially snagged it because it was on clearance and I saw the honeysuckle note. I LOVE honeysuckle. Its my favorite floral note (along with Lilac) in the world. In fact my favorite bodycare scent EVER is Honeysuckle Belle from VS which was discontinued by VS like 20 years ago and I have had a bottle I have been hanging onto for dear life. Well this is SO close on the drydown. The initial spray is very much about the clementine, citrusy without being sharp. The drydown, though, is where the honeysuckle shines. Its so fresh and true to life with just a bit of warmth from the white woods. Ngl, I choked up when I smelled this the first time. Ive already ordered a couple backups and I am praying to the universe that it will stay in stock for a couple of weeks longer when I can afford to really stock up on it🙏 Bare Vanilla Sol: so I initially bought this because I saw a review on the site that said it smelled like Creamcicles, which I am ALL about (I'm still babying my Purlisse/Kandee Johnson collab collection lol). Well...it does not. BUT it is still so good. Now, I am not in love with the initial spray. Something about the pomelo isnt winning me over, but this is another one where the drydown is a winner. To my nose the drydown loses all the citrus and it just smells like rich, thick vanilla cake. It actually smells like the vanilla in Coconut Passion if you took out the coconut. Because its such a rich and dessert-y vanilla I cant really vibe with this being a summer scent, but its delicious af nonetheless. Pure Seduction Sol: so the notes in this are Orange Mimosa and Pineapple and its just as juicy and fruity as you would imagine. I was expecting the pineapple to overpower the orange notes but suprisingly it doesnt. Its just a juicy, sweet orange scent with pineapple in the background. I usually hate scents that smell like a tropical drink, but this one I am loving. I can see almost anyone liking this one. Petal Gloss: most gorgeous Spring scent I have ever smelled, hands down. I am OBSESSED with this one. This and Light and Happy are my favorite scents VS/Pink has released in a really long time. This has notes of Anjou Pear, Coconut Water and Pink Cotton Flower. I love pear notes but often they are 'juicy' and can be a bit strong. This one, though, is a fresh, ripe pear. Like it was picked at the peak of ripeness but not yet bitten into/peeled. Surrounded by this bouquet of white florals. I def get some of the warmth of the cotton, but there is definitely some other white florals in there, maybe freesia or gardenia. But its not TOO floral (white florals can be nauseatingly loud lol), because the coconut water kind of mellows it out. This is stunning. Its one of those scents where I keep obsessively smelling myself until it wears off lol. Siren Serenade: the epitome of 'girl next door fresh out of the shower'. The notes in this are starfruit, watermelon, apricot and ocean breeze. Thats a lot of fruit, but somehow the combination smells....fresh af. Like its not overpoweringly juicy fruit, it just smells so clean. I mostly get the apricot, with the watermelon and starfruit dancing in the background. I assume its that ocean breeze accord thats bringing the freshness. If you like the clean girl aesthetic/scents, I can see you loving this one! So those are my current favs from VS/Pink. Just thought I'd share. I saw someone else post some favs from VS and I thought I'd share mine as well, since we are all bodycare obsessed here lol. Happy Sunday, y'all! submitted by EmeraldDahlia to bathandbodyworks [link] [comments]

2024.04.03 21:21 Igotnolife420 Core by Clare Smyth (***) , London, April 2024
A lovely April evening at Core by Clare Smyth. I am based in London, so naturally I had heard all the hype around Core, so it was time to try it out. We went for a special occasion, and right off the bat, the service was fantastic. As soon as you walk in, you are warmly welcomed, shown to the kitchen, welcomed by chef Jonny Bone and sat at your table. I went with the Core Seasons menu with a wine pairing, which is what will be pictured here.
2nd picture: we kick off with the amuse bouche. Caviar sandwich, pea gougere, roast chicken, lobster roll (not pictured). There waw a small hiccup here, my girlfriend found a hair in one of the amuse bouche. It was swiftly replaced and an apology was issued.
3rd picture: langoustine and wasabi pea, with a rose geranium foam and almond and pea (the small dots on the side). A very strong start to the menu, paired with a lovely natural wine from Alsace. I have to say, the sommeliers are really chatty and passionate, as well as knowledgeable.
4th pic: asparagus with morels, wild garlic and duck egg yolk. I wasn’t really a fan of this particular starter, but my girlfriend liked it. The asparagus was nice and mildly sweet. Paired with a nice Sauv Blanc from the Loire Valley
5th pic: Cornish turbot with cucumber, kelp and oysters. Another course I wasn’t really a fan of, it was served mildly lukewarm, and the flavours weren’t anything memorable. My girlfriend had the legendary potato and roe, and the beurre blanc sauce was delightful!
6th: Now we are talking. Blythburg farm Pork , with Perigord truffle, hispi cabbage, thyme, capers. Paired with a lovely New Zealand Pinot Noir. I am a big fan of protein, yet eating pork cheek is not something I would imagine myself doing. God, it was so succulent, the flavours were described as “pork on pork on pork on truffle on truffle”. Umami heaven. Loved every second of it.
7th: the highlight of the wine pairing, a 2005 grand cru that had been decanted and oxidised for a few hours. Lots of strawberry on the nose, lovely Merlot that paired with the course that follows.
8th: Herdwick lamb, with lamb bacon, baby gem lettuce and peppermint sauce. The left cut was from the belly of the lamb, while the right tasted way gamier. The savoury profile of the bacon, the peppermint sauce cutting through, absolute perfection.
9th: “the other carrot”, basically an homage to carrot cake, with a carrot sorbet, and an accompanying carrot drink. It was supposedly alcoholic, they mentioned it contained walnut oil, but all I could get was carrot. Carrots on carrots, I loved it! My girlfriend had the Core apple, accompanied by a smoky apple brandy. Delightful!
10th: the last wine in our wine pairing, a South African sweet wine. Usually not a fan of sweet wines myself, but I loved this one. Tasted very much like cider, and it not being overwhelmingly sweet like some dessert wines, made it a great pairing with the less mild dessert that follows.
11th: Core-teaser, a twist on the UK sweet Malteser. Chocolate, hazelnuts, malt. It tastes exactly like the real thing, I loved it! So chocolatey, yet light.
We are pretty stuffed at this point, so we are served the petit fours. Wine gums and a chocolate and clementine tart. A lovely way to finish a sublime meal.
I didn’t exactly love some of the starters, but the mains and desserts were cooked to perfection. Amazing wine pairings, personal service, the staff never shied away from a conversation or a joke. The attention to detail was insane, they noticed my girlfriend holds her knife in her left hand, and set the table accordingly for the courses that followed. The ice for our water was constantly refreshed. But you never feel watched or intruded on. I definitely believe the hype behind Core now, and find it amazing value for a 3 star. Going to The Ledbury next month, can’t wait to see how that compares!

2024.03.30 13:46 domkingsleigh Elliott Smith dinner party
I’m organizing an Elliott Smith themed dinner party on Sunday but I have no idea what to make. I was thinking a clementine cake for dessert but I’m not sure what other foods could be associated with him or his music. Any ideas?

- Honey (Aurora) - $9.99 1kg jar -- Good deal for honey. Sometimes these 1kg jars can be found for less, but it's rare.
- Produce Price Rating: Medium, but always has well-priced chicken, the deli meat sale rotations are always fantastic, and just the overall variety of goods is refreshing. Personal favourite store.
Farm Boy - Cucumbers - $5.00 for 4 -- I assume you can buy them for 1.25 each, which is awesome. Cucumbers suffer some wild swings these days.
- Dried Sausage (various, Farm Boy, Rosette de Lyon) - $11.99 300g chub -- Buy one, get the next 50%. That would work out to $18. It's not great, but it's not terrible either. Works out to $3/100g, which isn't terrible for nice specialty dried sausage.
- Produce Price Rating: High
Farmers Pick (can be a little late on their flyer) (
https://www.farmerspick.ca/flyer-specials)
Food Basics - Beef striploin steak or roast - $5.98 per lb -- Probably AA grade. Pretty fair for beef. We sometimes see those dips into the $4/lb territory, but it's very cut dependent.
- Lamb leg (fresh, New Zealand) - $3.98 per lb -- Great price for lamb!! I should buy one of these and make a proper shepherd's pie.
- Atlantic salmon (fresh) - $8.88 per lb -- Awesome price for salmon! And it's Canadian-sourced. Nice!

- Mini cucumbers - $2.98 6-pack -- Interesting note: 5-6 minis is about a pound… And sometimes you can find them loose for cheaper…

- Onions, carrots - $1.98 2lb bag -- Average price for onions and carrots.
- Sweet potato - $1.28 per lb -- Average price for onions and carrots.
- Apples (various) - $2.98 3lb bag -- Works out to $1/lb, which is a good rate.

- Brie (Monsier Gustav) - $7.99 325g wheel -- Nice price for nice cheese. Deal is also applies to their gouda.

- Nuts (various, Irrrestibles) - $2.98 200-250g bag -- Nice! Though, I bought some walnuts the other week and they were a little stale tasting and I couldn't bring myself to eat them before I gave up on them. So to the squirrels they went.
- Fresh baguette - $0.99 235g loaf -- Nice! I think you'd have to look at the RCSS at any regularly low-priced fresh baked baguette.
- Canned tomatoes (Primo) - $1.25 796ml can -- Excellent! This is a stock-up price!
- Dry pasta (Primo) - $1.48 900g pack -- Again, this is a stock-up price! Get a few bags! Tip: orecchiette makes for excellent mac and cheese.
- Rice (Noor, Arjun) - $7.99 3.63-4.54kg -- The Noor bag is the 10lb one. I wonder if there's a quality difference…
- Olive oil (Gallo) - $13.99 1L bottle -- Haha, not exactly a deal. But, such as it is for olive oil.
- Butter (Selection) - $5.99 454g bar -- Not bad. It's interesting though as they advertise this as "locked down". Hmm…
- Dish soap (Dawn) - $5.00 2x 431-473ml bottle -- Math time: 0.5L for 2.50, 1L for $5 ish. On sale, those bottles are on par with the Platinum 2.2L bottle for $12.
- Produce Price Rating: Low to medium low
FoodLand - Beef top sirloin (AAA) - $9.99 per lb -- Not bad. There's obviously less fancy for less, but this is decent for AAA grade.
- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $4.99 400g bar -- Good ol' $5 brick cheese!
- Frozen veg (Green Giant) - $2.67 400-750g -- Nice! Brand-name frozen veg for less than $3 a bag. I'm sure the 750g bags are for corn and peas, but still, it's a good price. Get some to keep in the freezer for soup and simple dinner sides,
- Produce Price Rating: Medium-high to high.
Freshco (price matcher)
- Beef eye of round (AA grade) - $3.99 per lb -- Excellent price! Limit of 2.
- Smoked ham (Pillars) - $9.99 800g toupie -- Pretty good. We've seen better, but we're in that $1-1.25/100g rangem, which is very acceptable.
- Dinner sausage (Compliments) - $12.00 1.4kg pack -- This basically $4/lb, which very acceptable for fresh sausage.
- Boneless turkey roast (frozen, Butterball) - $19.99 1.5kg -- Math time: goodness that's $6/lb. I mean, it's a meat-amalgam roast. But still, that's 2-3x the price of fresh turkey…
- Asparagus - $1.49 per lb -- Great deal!
- Brussel sprouts - $1.99 per lb -- Good price, often floats around $3/lb.
- Green beans - $2.49 per lb -- Good price, often floats around $3/lb.

- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $4.99 400g bar -- Good ol' $5 brick cheese!
- Cream (Sealtest) - $1.99 473ml-1L -- Hmm, not bad. I have to start paying attention to cream prices…
- Bread (Rudolph) - $2.99 500g loaf -- Nice bread for a decent price. I think Costco sells the same bread, but in these combo bags, and they work out to 2.50 a loaf, I think… It's been a while since I've been, however.
- Espresso beans (Lavazza) - $16.99 1kg bag -- Not terrific. Reminds me of a fellow's mention of 1kg bags for $10 at Costco… Anyhow, I grind my own coffee every morning in a simple blitzer. Works out to 10c a cup, or 20c to fill a big mug.

- Canned tomatoes (Primo) - $3.00 for 2x 796ml can -- Great price! If you plan to stock up, note that Food Basics has them for 25c less each.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally on the low side.

- Boursin cheese - $3.99 150g pack -- Scene Member Price. $6 regular.

Provigo - Ground beef (medium) - $18.99 per lb -- For the love of God and all that is holy, that's 4-5x standard price ranging!!! What the hell are they thinking of advertising this? Is this gaslighting? LOL Independent and Loblaws have their extre lean ground for 8/lb, and that's STILL not a good deal by any means. How can they do $19/lb!?!
- I don't know what's going on with Provigo this week. This is cracked out. I'm not even bothering with their flyer this week…
- Produce Price Rating: Fairly high to eye watering

- Butter (Lactantia) - $4.99 454g bar -- Nice $5 butter!
- Produce Price Rating: High. Kinda like Sobeys. You can see a 50% average mark-up compared to a lot of other stores. It's nice produce, but it costs you.

- Canned tuna (Ocean's) - $1.49 170g can -- Fair price for canned tuna. Those 99c deals are getting rarer and rarer. On that note, they also have canned albacore for 5.89. That's a wild 4x price. I wonder what the flavour difference is…
- Earth's Own Almond bev - $2.99 1.89L -- Great price! Note that the oat milk is also on sale but 80c more.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally quite low, selectively amazing for some items.
Produce Depot (usually a little late on the flyer)

- Potatoes (PEI) - $3.99 10lb bag -- Nice! $4 10lb bags are always welcome!
- Pears (Bartlett) - $1.79 per lb -- Not the best deal, but not bad. I think 1.49/lb is the better target, but this ain't terrible.
- Navel oranges (California) - $1.29 per lb -- A little over that $1/lb mark for standard oranges, but there may be a quality difference that makes them shine. Don't walk by them without giving them a little look.
- Deli - Smoked ham - $1.89 per 100g -- Nice deal on deli ham!
- Beef boneless rib roast or steaks (no grade) - $6.88 per lb -- 4 day sale only - 27th to 30th. This is probably Mexican-sourced. That doesn't mean it's bad, but it means it doesn't a grade. The price is nice, though.
- Turkey (fresh, Grade A) - $2.49 per lb -- More of that standard sale turkey.
- Ground beef (medium) - $4.99 per lb -- Upper-end price for sale ground. $4/lb is the stock-up target.
- Broccoli - $0.88 per crown -- AWESOME! Great price for broc crowns.
- Sweet potatoes - $5.00 10lb bag -- AWESOME! 50c/lb!!
- Onions - $2.99 3lb bag -- Average.
- Carrots - $4.00 5lb bag -- Nice! 80c/lb is a good rate for carrot.
- Green cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Average sale for cabbage. Nothing to cry home about, but you're not getting ripped off.
- Mini-cucumbers - $4.00 11-pack -- Excellent price on a bulk pack of cucumber.
- Mushrooms - $5.00 680g shell -- Great deal on mushrooms! 227g shells usually got for $3-4, so the extra buck gets you 2.5x the quantity. I like slicing the criminis and baking them with a little oil and salt until very browned. Yum!
- Sweet peppers (Imperfect) - $6.00 2.5lb bag -- Very reasonable rate on peppers considering we're still seeing $3/lb+ on average.
- Grapes - $1.79 per lb -- Fantastic deal on grapes!
- Double-cream brie (PC) - $11.99 450g wheel -- Nice big wheels, good for baked bries.
- Grana Padano And Parmigiano - $22.00 800g hunk -- Math time: works out to 2.75/100g. More often, you'll find 200g for $8-10. So, it's a lot of cheese, but at a very good rate. And, if you store it well, parm will continue to age and dry a bit in the fridge, lending to the "flavour crystals" that build up in the cheese.
- Silk Almond bev - $2.99 1.89L jug -- Nice, about $1 off most other places.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally medium-low pricing, selectively amazing for some items.
Sobeys - Turkey (fresh, Grade A) - $1.95 per lb -- More of that standard sale turkey.
- Beef sirloin oven roast or steaks (AAA) - $6.88 per lb -- Scene Member Price. WOW! Hold the phone, that's AAA-grade for less than $7/lb. Regular is 7.99, which still really good by any stretch.
- Pork centercut loin or rib - $3.70 per lb -- Not amazing, but not bad. It's a fair price for loin. I'd hit a Metro if you want pork rib.
- Lobster tail (frozen or thawed) - $7.50 each -- Hmm… Interesting. Lobster is a bit of a toss up for price. Comparitively at this moment, this is a fair price for frozen lobster tail.
- Atlantic salmon - $9.77 per lb -- Scene Member Price. 2 days only, 28th and 30th. Reguarly 14.99/lb. This is what some would call "priced for a sale". $15/lb is stupid, $10/lb is a fair deal, but if Sobey's is your only option, then it's a great deal.
- Sausages (Johnsonville) - 2-for-1 - $6.99 250-500g -- It's not clear which packs are the 500g ones. It's meh deal if you get the 250g packs. It's excellent deal if you do the 500g packs.
- Asparagus - $1.77 per lb -- Good price for asparagus.
- Sweet potato - $1.29 per lb -- Average sale, but kinda actually good for Sobeys.
- Celery - $2.49 per head -- Nice! Fair price for celery. Basics still hasn't woken up and is still selling theirs for $4.
- Onions, Carrots - $2.69 2lb bags -- Oufff, this is unfortunate pricing…
- Russet potatoes - $1.49 per lb -- Ouch!! Why Sobeys! You were doing so well!
- Brick cheese (PC) - $5.77 400g bar -- For fair-priced cheese. Not under $5, but still ok.
- Produce Price Rating: Some sales can be quite good. But, it's generally a high price store, especially for produce. Some items are 50% more than more value-oriented stores.
Super C - Beef fillet mignon (roast or steaks) - $14.99 per lb -- This is actually a good price on a very nice cut of beef! Provigo had it at advertised at 36/lb. I think 25/lb is probably closer to the median price. But still, excellent price!!
- Ground beef (medium) - $3.49 per lb -- FANTASTIC! And lest we forget Provigo's $18/lb.
- Ground pork (extra lean) - $3.49 per lb -- FANTASTIC! Awesome price for ground pork! Extra lean means you're not paying for fat, which you can always add back in somehow haha
- Steelhead trout - $9.88 per lb -- Standard sale price on fresh trout. Not mindblowingly cheap, but still better than full price, which can easily range into $15/lb.
- Snow crab sections (frozen) - $8.88 per lb -- Good rate on crab.
- Lamb leg (fresh, New Zealand) - $4.99 per lb -- Decent price for lamb. Basics has it for $4/lb, but this is still a good rate.
- Smoked ham (Sugardale) - $2.49 per lb -- Nice! Most other places charge 3.49/lb for the exact same ham.
- Radishes - $0.99 per bunch -- Very good price for radishes. It's very rare to find better than this.
- Asparagus - $0.99 per bunch? -- It isn't specified if it's per lb or 325g bunches. Either way, fantastic price!
- Cucumber - $0.99 each -- Nice! $1 cucumber!
- Green cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Decent rate on cabbage. Fair price, but not the best. I like seeing 88c/lb. And we've seen lower, but it's not common.
- Rutabaga - $0.99 per lb -- Fair enough. I think regular price, rutabaga floats toward 1.30/lb-ish. Like the cabbage, I prefer seeing 88c/lb.
- Potatoes (yellow, red) - $5.99 10lb bag -- Fair enough price for spuds. Not the best, but not terrible. We're seeing 10lb bags go for $7-8 (which is terrifying)
- Grapes - $1.79 per lb -- Excellent rate on grapes!
- Cantaloupe - $1.99 each -- Awesome!
- Strawberries (organic) - $2.99 454g shell -- According to the flyer, the organic and regular strawberries are the same price.
- Coconut - $0.99 each -- Fun!
- Clementines - $3.99 2lb bag -- Decent enough. It's tough to source a lower price than $2/lb.
- Double-cream brie (Le Baron) - $12.99 500g wheel -- Good price for a big wheel of brie.
- Feta (Selection) - $15.00 800g tub -- Good enough rate on feta. $2/100g is a good target price. More than that, and you should question it.
- Dried sausage (Irresistibles) - $7.99 400g chub -- Good price for nice dried sausage. The varieties are quite nice. I like the chorizo especially. That is addictive stuff.
- Pâté (Belle Bretagne) - $2.99 150g pack -- Decent sale. Not the $5-for-2 we saw some weeks ago, but 50c isn't a deal-breaker.
- Canned artichoke (Irresistibles) - $3.00 398ml can -- Nice! This is a sizeable portion for a good price. I love artichokes in salads and on pizza!
- Cretons (Selection) - $5.00 300g pack -- Nice rate on creton. There's also the Norel brand on sale this week for 5.99, same weight.
- Grenache caramel spread - $2.00 400g tub -- Oh wow… I haven't had this stuff in ages…
- Flour (Five Roses, Robinhood) - $13.99 10kg bag -- A little more than some other sales we've seen, but still much better than how smaller bags scale with price.
- Butter (Selection) - $4.88 454g bar -- Nice! Sub-$5 butter!
- Naturalia Almond bev - $2.00 946ml -- Decent price. It's not the $3 1.89L jugs we saw, but if you don't need 2L of it, then this is a fair way to go.
Walmart - Turkey (fresh, Grade A) - $2.44 per lb -- Meh, for Walmart, I expected better than such an average price…
- Atlantic salmon - $8.98 per lb -- Nice! $1/lb less than most places most weeks. Very reasonble price for fresh salmon.
- Dinner and breakfast sausage (Maple Leaf) - $6.97 900g-1.2kg -- Fantastic deal on sausage!
- Smoked ham (bone-in, Great Value) - $1.37 per lb -- WOW! This is an AWESOME deal on dinner ham!
- Brussel sprouts - $1.97 per lb -- Excellent price for fresh sprouts.
- Broccoli - $0.84 per crown -- AWESOME! Great price for broc crowns.

- Celery - $1.97 per head -- Nice! $2 is great for celery.
- Green peppers - $2.47 per lb -- Not bad for peppers. Sitll exorbitant, but better than $3/lb+.
- Pineapple - $2.97 each -- More of that $3 pineapple. Seems like pineapple import season lol. I don't think I saw a pineapple over $5 this week.
- Blueberries - $1.94 340g shell -- WOW! That's cheap! Excellent price!
- Mango - $0.97 each -- Fantastic deal! Hard to find mangoes cheaper than 1.25-1.50 a piece.
- Brick cheese (Cracker Barrel) - $5.77 400g bar -- Not under $5 but still better than paying regular price.
- Rondelé cheese spread - $2.97 125g pack -- Really good cheese spread for a great price!
- Cube stock (Knorr) - $0.88 80g 8-pack -- Normally about $1.00-1.25 basically anywhere any other day of the week.
- Frozen veg (Green Giant) - $2.67 300-750g bag -- Nice! Brand-name frozen veg for less than $3 a bag. I'm sure the 750g bags are for corn and peas, but still, it's a good price. Get some to keep in the freezer for soup and simple dinner sides,
- Instant Pot Pressure cooker - $89.98 8-qt -- $40 off regularly price. For those with small kitchens, this is a life saver. Pressure cooking can cut cooktimes in half or more. These electric countertop ones can also be used as slow cookers, for making yogurt, soaking dry beans, it's great for rice, making soup stocks from scraps, and more. And it's safer than running a stove element in many of those use-cases. There's a bit of a learning curve, but now it's an indispensable tool in my kitchen now and I absolutely abuse mine. And, for those who wonder, they fail safely. I've had one "fail" on me. It's not at all like a traditional stove-top pressure cooker, where if it fails it can blow a lid clear through a ceiling.
- Produce Price Rating: A little all over the place. Some really good prices between a lot of average pricing.

- Green peppers - $1.97 per lb -- Fair price for peppers these days.
- Avocados - $2.94 5-pack -- Great deal on cados!

- Deli - Beef bologna (Solmaz) - $1.49 per 100g -- Nice! I gotta try this stuff some day. In fact, I should do a deli counter run and be like "I want 100g of everything" and do a sit down review with a bunch of people haha
- Deli - Chicken breast (Alzahraa) - $1.29 per 100g -- Great deal on a not-super-fancy deli meat. Good if you have a lot of sandwiches to pack.

- Deli - Turkey Breast (Harvest Creek) - $1.99 per 100g -- Nice! I tried the Solmaz MTL turkey, and that stuff was amazing. When I was there, I was eyeing this stuff and wondering how it might compare.
- Turkey breast deli meat (Alzahraa) - $5.29 400g chub -- Never ignore these large chubs of deli meat. You have to slice it yourself, but the savings are real.
- Flour (Five Roses) - $14.99 10kg bag -- A fair 10kg bag sale. Basically smack dab between the $12 better sale and the $18 regular price.
- Bread (Rudolph) - $2.99 500g loaf -- Great deal on very nice bread which is found more often at the $4 mark.
- Butter (Lactantia) - $5.99 454g bar -- Interesting to note that they have $6 butter. Not the best deal, but not terrible considering even places like GT can have butter prices ranging over $6 for certain brands.
- Produce Price Rating: Medium, but always has well-priced chicken, the deli meat sale rotations are always fantastic, and just the overall variety of goods is refreshing. Personal favourite store.

Farm Boy - Pork (loin chops or roast) - $3.99 per lb -- Not great, but not bad. I prefer to aim for the $2.99/lb mark, but this still decent. And you can expect it to be a good cut.
- Onions, Carrots - $5.00 2* 3lb bags -- Great deal on onions and carrots. Basically puts it at 83c/lb for both, which is good. $1 and over is where I'm like "eww grody, gag me with a spoon".
- Parsnip - $5.00 2* 1lb bags -- More of a mention if you like parsnip. Also, I find it hard to square that parsnip is that expensive when it's the first thing you can grow in Stardew Valley (terrific game btw).
- Sweet potato - $0.99 per lb -- Awesmoe price! Usually at least 30c more per lb.
- Green onions - $0.99 per bunch -- Nice! See what I mean about $1 bunches!
- Radishes - $0.99 per bunch -- Nice! Kinda funny. Sometimes I buy radishes, and one bunch is too little, but two is too many. Radish woes…
- Celery - $1.99 per head -- Very good price for celery!
- Heirloom tomatoes - $2.49 per 567g pack -- Kind of an average price for tomatoes, but very decent rate for heirlooms.
- Natural Peanut butter (Farm Boy) - $3.49 500g tub -- Hmm, interesting. A standard 1kg tub usually runs about $5-6. So in that sense, this ain't bad. I wouldn't make cookies out of this stuff, though haha
- Bread (all varieties, Farm Boy) - $2.99 600g loaf -- Great rate on good bread.
- Earth's Own beverages - $3.99 1.75-1.89L jug -- Not a substantive sale, but still decent.
- Vegan burgers (VG Gourmet) - $7.99 4x100g pack -- Decent rate on veggie burgs.
- Produce Price Rating: Medium Low to Medium High

- Rainbow trout - $10.99 per lb -- Decent price for trout.
- Eggs (Selection) - $8.99 30-pack -- Decent rate on eggs. Not exactly "omg sale" territory, but decent enough at 30c/egg. The more standard 3.79 12-pack brings us to around 32c an egg.
- Broccoli - $0.88 per crown -- VERY NICE! Gotta love cheap broc!
- Onions, Carrots - $1.67 2lb bags -- Nice! 80c/lb-ish range. Very good.

- Cucumber - $3.00 for 2 -- Not terrific, but not terrible. Certainly better than some weeks where cucumbers were popping up at $2+ each.
- Avocados - $3.98 5-6 pack -- Decent price for cados.
- Cauliflower - $3.98 each -- More of a mention to say this is a fair going rate on cauliflower.
- Brussel sprouts - $2.98 per lb -- Decent rate on brussel sprouts, but we've seen better.
- Green beans - $3.77 340g pack -- Pricier than the Adonis rate, but these are a little steadier in quality most of the time.
- Sweet potatoes - $1.28 per lb -- Fair rate on sweet potato.
- Fresh greens (Attitude) - $4.88 312g bin -- The ad shows the same price for smaller bins. So, check in store to see what they have to offer.
- Fresh spinach - $1.88 per bunch -- I'd have to do a weigh in to see what the $/lb is. But It's nice to see fresh spinach.
- Rapini - $2.98 per bunch -- I love this stuff, fried, a little oil, garlic. Yum!
- Garlic - $2.98 500g braid -- NICE! I love these. They're fantastic for roasting and making garlic paste.

- Beets - $1.48 per lb -- This is actually not terrible for loose beets. I think it's most common to find 3lb bags for about $5.

- Cantaloupe - $1.88 each -- Nice $2 melons? Yes!
- Pineapple (extra large) - $2.98 each -- Not the 1.88 deal we sometimes see, but if they bigger and nicer, then the price kinda justifies itself.
- Brick cheese (Selection) - $4.44 400g bar -- Good ol' sub-$5 cheese!
- Yogurt (Hans) - $1.98 750g tub -- Nice! Cheap yogurt is always good to find. Excellent base for marinades and an essential ingredient in a lot of cooking.

- Rice (Arjun, Noor) - $7.99 3.63-4.54kg -- Nice price for rice!

- Butter (Selection) - $5.99 454g bar -- More "semi regular price $6" bars.
- Parmigiano Reggiano (Emma) - $11.98 per lb -- Lol, ok so, that translates to about 2.63/100g, which is a good rate on parm.
- Ristorante frozen pizza (Dr Oetker) - $4.49 each -- Holy smokes. I remember these being, like $2.50 at the start of the pandemic. I stand by my homemade pizza logic 1000x over when I see this sort of low-quality product at almost $5.
- Produce Price Rating: Low to medium low

FoodLand - Turkey (frozen, Butterball) - $25.00 3-5kg bird -- Suppose a 4kg bird, that's about 2.84/lb. Not an amazing rate. You really have to be craving turkey at this price.
- Ham (Compliments) - $2.49 per lb -- Advertised as "portion hams". I don't know what this means. But the price is right enough.
- Beef cross rib roast (AAA) - $7.99 per lb -- Not amazing for beef prices if you're trying to aim for budget cuts, but it could make for a nice treat. But at that rate, might as well go for the turkey or the ham.
- Atlantic salmon (fresh) - $10.99 per lb -- Good deal on fresh (not frozen) fish.
- Green cabbage - $1.19 per lb -- We've seen much cheaper, but this isn't terrible. This is aligned with "off-sale" pricing compared to less expensive stores.
- Brussel sprouts - $3.49 per lb -- This is very average pricing for brussel sprouts. My personal target is under $3/lb.
- Rutabaga - $1.19 per lb -- Not amazing, but not terrible. One usually don't buy more than one, but expect that one to cost about $3-4.

- Brussel sprouts - $2.49 per lb -- Great price for sprouts!

- Strawberries - $1.78 454g shell -- Great deal!
- Plums, Peaches - $1.88 per lb -- These are great rates on stone fruit at this time of year. Mind the season though. They might be a little tough or hard to ripen. However, they might be good for cooking down. There's give and take on that front.
- Mango - $1.44 each -- Kind of average, but if they look nice, pick one up and enjoy what the 1000 mile salad has to offer.

- Brick cheese (Black Diamond) - $4.99 400g bar -- Nice! More cheap cheese!
- Cheddar (Balderson) - $5.88 170-280g bars -- Not a usual item I'd recommend, but these bars often go for $10 each.

- Parmigiano Reggiano - $2.99 per 100g -- Not a bad rate on parm considering $4/100g is pretty common.
- Bread (Dempsters, Country Harvest) - $6.00 for 2 loaves -- Nice deal on different varieties of bread.
- Produce Price Rating: High. Kinda like Sobeys. You can see a 50% average mark-up compared to a lot of other stores. It's nice produce, but it costs you.
No Frills (price matcher)
- Beef sirloin tip roast - $4.88 per lb -- Very nice!!! This is the kind of cut you buy and turn into beef cubes and strips for future meals!
- Lamb leg - $3.99 per lb -- More cheap lamb!
- Turkey - varies varies -- One of those variable weight deals. $18/24/30/36 for 3-5/5-7/7-9/9-11kg. Which… That's actually quite good. That compares very favorably compared to Independent's ad. That puts us at around the $1.70/lb mark for an 8kg bird.
- Lean ground pork - $3.49 per lb -- Not amazing, but ok.
- Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $12.00 3-pack -- Hard to gauge if it'S THAT great a deal. But, if it weighs in at about 2.5lb, you got a fair deal.
- Avocado - $3.99 5-6 pack -- I guess we're seeing some averaging on avocados at aruond $4 for these 5-6 packs.
- Yellow onions - $2.49 10lb bag -- AWESOME!

- Apples (Honey Crisp) - $0.99 per lb -- Excellent price for a great variety!
- Boursin cheesespread - $3.99 150g -- Very nice cheesespread for a good price. For comparison, standard cream cheese is about $4 for 250g, and Boursin is MUCH better for things like bagels, mixing into a scrampled egg, or a base for a pasta dish.
- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $4.88 400g bar -- Nice! Cheap cheese!
- Sliced cheese (Cracker Barrel) - $4.49 200-240g -- More like Whacker Barrel. Look at that price versus the Armstrong. Slice your own cheese, people. You'll get twice as much cheese for the same money!
- Ricotta - $7.00 500g tub -- That's amazing deal for ricotta.
- Brie, Camambert (Agroput) - $5.00 170g wheels -- Good rate on a nice cheese. That's about $2/100g for "sorta artisanal cheese". Think back to the Oka we saw earlier, $6 for 190g, so $3/100g. You're getting a good deal if you stick around that price ranging.
- Lantic Sugar (white) - $1.99 2kg bag -- Great price on sugar!!
- Dry beans and lentils (Clic) - $2.99 907g bags -- Great rate on dry beans. $4 isn't uncommon for 2lb bags, so $3 is quite a decrease in the grander scheme of things.

- Produce Price Rating: Generally quite low, selectively amazing for some items.
Produce Depot (usually a little late on the flyer)
https://producedepot.ca/ - Pork back rib - $3.79 per lb -- Not amazing, but ok for pork rib. There are a lot of other options floating around with better pricing. But, a good ol' smoked pork rib makes for a great dinner item.
- Breaded chicken schnitzel - $5.99 per lb -- Makes for an easy meal. I wouldn't usually recommend these sorts of items, but that's actually a decent deal.
- Fresh tilapia fillets - $9.99 per lb -- I find frozen tilapia is quite watery and a little more rubbery once thawed. But, $10/lb is a bit steep. Mind your step with this one.
- Mackerel (thawed) - $3.99 per lb -- Nice to see whole fish like at the Adonis.
- Cucumber - $1.29 each -- Not bad. Every 10c on a cucumber counts for a lot, and this is still a far cry away from the $2 units we see elsewhere. (Looking at your Independent/Loblaws)
- Green onions - $0.79 per bunch -- NICE! That's an awesome price!
- Roma tomatoes - $1.49 per lb -- Not bad. We've seen romas go for 99c/lb, but if these are nice, firm, red tomatoes, I would get a few for sure.

- Blackberries - $1.49 170g shell -- Great deal on berries!!

- Deli - Smoked Pepper Ham (Schneiders) - $1.49 per 100g -- Fantastic deal on deli meat!!
- Astro Yogurt - $4.99 12x100g pack -- Not the best price ever. You can often score it for $1 less, but this is still good.
- Produce Price Rating: Medium-low with very competitive specials on a shortened flyer.
Real Canadian Superstore (price matcher)
- Chicken drumsticks - $1.99 per lb -- Great deal on drumsticks. But that IGA sale… I almost think that was a mistake at this rate. I wonder if we'll see a correction from their end… That's loss-leader pricing territory…
- Atlantic salmon (fresh) - $9.99 per lb -- More decently price fresh salmon.
- Turkey (utility grade) - varies varies -- Another $18/24/30/36 for 3-5/5-7/7-9/9-11kg. Like I said earlier, put you in that $1.70/lb ballpark for an 8kg bird.
- Eggs (No Name) - $6.49 30-pack -- VERY NICE! From a 30c average, this works out to 22c/egg. Amazing!
- Bacon (No Name) - $3.99 500g pack -- Great rate on bacon.
- Onions, Carrots - $2.99 3lb bag -- $1/lb. Not bad, but aim for better if you can help it. Otherwise, it is what it is.
- Potatoes (Russet) - $2.49 10lb bag -- AWESOME!
- Brussel sprouts - $1.99 per lb -- EXCELLENT!
- Avocados (Imperfect) - $6.00 3lb bag -- Lol just when you think you have a handle on cado prices, we go back to weights. Like, give me both # and lbs in a bag, PLEASE!
- Cucumber - $3.50 3-pack -- Fair price for cucumber. Even a 50c creep down makes a big difference.
- Grape tomatoes - $6.00 907g shell -- Nice! That's a decent rate for grape tomatoes.
- Vine tomatoes - $1.99 per lb -- Not the best price for tomatoes overall, but I find the "vine tomatoes" we see in stores are often quite nice. Not summer tomatoes, obviously, but still pretty good.
- Mandarins - $6.99 4lb bag -- Nice!
- Apples (Imperfect) - $6.00 6lb bag -- There's that $1/lb mark for standard fruit options. Nice to see, though you might want to check other stores for some of the nice varieties kicking around this week.
- Boursin cheesespread - $3.99 150g -- More cheap Boursin!
- Mix and Match Cheese and Charcuterie Deal - $18.00 for 3 items -- I don't know about the deli meat side of things. I find those packs of sliced meats offer crap value per 100g. But the cheese? That's worth checking out.
- Olive oil (Gallo) - $12.99 1L bottle -- It's, like, $1 off, but it's hard to find olive oil for cheaper than $12-13/L.
- Canned tomatoes (Unico) - $1.59 796ml can -- Includes canned beans (but you know how I feel about canned beans versus dry). This is a fair deal on canned tomatoes. You won't find better very often, so don't shy from stocking up a few.
- Bread and buns (D'Italiano) - $6.00 for 2 loaves/sets of buns -- Great price for above average bread.
- Butter (Gay Lea) - $4.87 454g bar -- Sub-$5 butter! It's been creeping down!
- Dry beans and lentils (Clic) - $2.99 907g bags -- Ah, that deal for Clic dry beans again. Nice
- Produce Price Rating: Generally medium-low pricing, selectively amazing for some items.

Sobeys - Beef striploin grilling steak (AA) - $7.88 per lb -- Fair deal for decent of steak. Be sure to check the tenderness of the cut, however. A light thumb press will tell you how things will turn out.
- Beef eye of round - $6.99 per lb -- Not the best, but not terrible, except if you can reach a No Frills and get that tip roast for 4.88/lb.
- Beef sirloin tip (AAA) - $8.99 per lb -- So, this is interesting. There's that rip roast, but AAA instead of AA grade, and at Sobey's versus a more value-oriented store. Another day, another store, this might be more along the $7 range, I believe.
- Ground beef - $4.99 per lb -- Not bad for ground beef, but not the best. In a pinch it's fine, but I wouldn't stock up at this price.
- Smoked honey glazed ham, spiral cut (Panache) - $3.49 per lb -- Pricier than those Sugardale hams we saw earlier, but not terrible.
- Smoked ham (Compliments) - $2.99 per lb -- Interesting… It's funny how they bury similar items at lower prices in the flyer.
- Turkey (frozen) - $1.95 per lb -- Scene Member Price. Not the best rate, but not bad at all. If you're not getting the member rate, it'S 2.29/lb, at which point it's worth the gas to cruise around for a better deal.
- Rainbow trout - $10.99 per lb -- Decent price for trout. Tilapia is included for this ad.
- Bacon - $3.99 375g pack -- Scene Member Price.
- Onions, carrots - $6.49 5lb bag -- Not the greatest… I really don't like seeing stores that charge over $1/lb for an important staple. It's not by much, 25c/lb over. But still, that's a 25% difference.
- Potatoes (Russet) - $1.88 5lb bag -- Excellent rate on spuds!
- Nappa cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Nice! It's fun to see nappa still kicking around at a good price :) I wanna say these might make an ok sub if you're making cabbage rolls or similar dishes.
- Blackberries, Raspeberries - $5.00 2x 170g shells -- Not bad for berries price-wise. I wouldn't go hog wild on buying these, but they might be a nice topping for pancakes or waffles. Oh my goodness, I just got a craving for homemade waffles…
- Produce Price Rating: Some sales can be quite good. But, it's generally a high price store, especially for produce. Some items are 50% more than more value-oriented stores.

Super C - Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $4.44 per lb -- Awesome! That's a great price for chicken breast!
- Beef stewing cubes - $4.99 per lb -- Nice! Awesome deal on key ingredient to a good stew.
- Atlantic salmon (fresh) - $9.88 per lb -- Good price on salmon.
- Ground beef (medium) - $4.99 per lb -- So-so price on ground beef
- Pork picnic shoulder - $2.99 per lb -- A little pricier than I'd like it to be, but these are nice cuts for pulled pork.
- Eggs (Selection) - $2.38 12-pack -- WOW! Another great egg sale! Back into that 20c/egg range! Impressive!
- Breakfast sausage (Lafleur) - $3.99 375g pack -- Nice alternative to bacon. Follows that $1/100g mark. It's not often you can find sausage for cheaper than this. And usually, off-sale, it tends to be slightly pricier than bacon; or you have to buy more to get that better rate.
- Bacon (Selection) - $3.85 375g pack -- Good price for bacon. It's about that $1/100g mark.
- Celery - $1.49 per head -- WOW! Excellent price!
- Mushrooms - $0.94 227g shell -- AWESOME DEAL!
- Green peppers - $1.49 per lb -- I could cry right now. When was the last time we saw peppers for 1.49/lb…
- Sweet potatoes - $0.57 per lb -- WOOT! Another good sweet spud deal!
- Mini potatoes (red, yellow, white) - $1.99 3lb bag -- Not the best value, but this is ok. 66c/lb for potatoes is kind of a going rate if you look at regular priced 5lb bags that can cost up to $4-5. So, there's a value proposition to consider here. Also, they're nice for roasting whole.
- Yellow onions - $0.99 3lb bag -- WOW! AMAZING! 33c/lb!
- Green beans - $2.99 340g pack -- More decently priced green beans!
- Brussel sprouts - $2.99 454g pack -- We saw some better prices here and there, but this is still reasonable enough.
- Pineapple - $1.77 each -- EXCELLENT! At this price, buy two!
- Clementines - $4.88 4lb case -- WOW! Awesome deal on wonderful oranges.
- Bananas - $0.69 per lb -- Nice low-rate on bananas!
- Brick cheese (Black Diamond) - $5.49 400g bar -- A little more than some of the sales we saw thus far, who freakin' cares!!!!
- Cretons (Selection) - $5.00 300g tub -- Nice! A classic! My mom makes homemade cretons, which is awesome. I should give it a try sometime…
- Cream cheese (Philadelphia) - $5.47 340g pack -- Remember what I said earlier? About $4 for 250g? This is on par with that.
- Tomato soup (Aylmer) - $0.50 284ml can -- Fantastic deal on canned tomato soup.
- Maple syrup - $5.77 540ml can -- Very nice price for maple syrup. The same cans elsewhere often float more in the $7 range.
- Earth's Own plant-bev - $2.99 1.75-1.89L -- Nice! That's about $1.50 off regular pricing.
- Nuts (Irresistibles) - $4.00 175-600g -- Seems to include walnuts, almonds, and pistachios. Great for snacking!
- Produce Price Rating: Generally low, but can creep into medium for some items. But, there's always something decent available!
T&T Supermarket https://www.tntsupermarket.com - Produce Price Rating: Usually very competitive, catering to Asian cuisine. Warning: their newest sales start on Fridays - so this is a late advertising of their sales.

Walmart - Ground beef (medium) - $2.77 per lb -- WOW! That's a FANTASTIC price on ground beef!
- Smoked bone-in ham (Great Value) - $1.37 per lb -- WOWOW! Amazing!!!!!
- Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $20.00 6-pack -- Hmm, more of that "variable weight fixed price" chicken. Try to assure that it clocks in at under $5/lb.
- Yellow onions, Carrots - $0.94 3lb bag -- WOW! AMAZING! More of that 33c/lb-ish range for a staple. I like seeing that!
- Mushrooms - $0.94 227g shell -- Very nice!!!
- Brussel sprouts - $1.94 per lb -- Very nice!
- Apples (Honey Crisp) - $1.47 per lb -- Not amazing, but not bad. If they're nice, get some. But, there are better deals elsewhere.
- Cheddar (Balderson) - $4.97 170-280g bars -- There's that half-off Balderson again!
- Brick cheese (Great Value) - $4.44 400g bar -- Excellent deal on standard brick cheese!
- Double cream brie - $3.97 450g wheel -- WOW! Awesome deal on a huge wheel of brie!
- Rondelé cheesespread - $2.97 125g -- Boursin's even fancier cousin. The walnut spread is outrageously good.
- Bread (multigrain, Dempsters) - $6.00 2x loaves -- Probably a 500-600g loaf. Nice stuff for a decent price when you buy two.
- Bread (D'Italiano) - $2.97 600g loaf -- I don't know, to me, paying $1 more for nicer bread goes a long way. Otherwise, if you need the cheapest bread possible, aim for $2 to $2.50 for No Name, Selection, Compliments branded bread.
- Olive oil (Terra Delyssa) - $5.97 500ml -- Great price for olive oil. Like I said earlier in the post, it's hard to get olive oil lower than $12-13/L.
- Tofu (Sunrise) - $1.97 454g brick -- Very nice price for tofu!
- Produce Price Rating: A little all over the place. Some really good prices between a lot of average pricing.
Costco (for referencing when looking through flyers - going to try to comment on these items more often)
- Paper Towel (Kirkland) - $27.99 12-roll pack -- 2-ply; 160 sheets
- Paper Towel (Bounty) - $27.49 12-roll pack -- 2-ply; 86 sheets
- Toilet Paper (Kirkland) - $26.99 30-roll pack -- 2-ply; 380 sheets
- Toilet Paper (Cashmere) - $23.99 40-roll pack -- 2-ply; 250 sheets (on sale)

- Fresh mullet - $3.99 per lb -- With free cleaning! I really should buy some mullet and make a meal out of it.

- Roma tomatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Very good!! Usually at least 50c+ more expensive!
- Cilanto/Parsley - $0.99 per bunch -- Just a reminder that 99c for bunches of fresh herbs like this is a fair sale. Otherwise, expect to pay 50c to $1 more.
- Potatoes (Red, Russets, Yellow) - $3.99 10lb bag -- Nice! 40c/lb. Great rate for spuds!
- Lemons - $2.99 for 10 -- 30c a lemon is awesome! And you don't to buy 10, hahaha!

- Deli - Mortadella (Marcaneglo) - $1.99 per 100g -- The San Daniele can be a little cheap, but only by about 20c/100g. Overall, this is still 30% cheaper than the average deli.
- Deli - Proscuitto (San Daniele) - $2.79 per 100g -- Nice! It's not a crazy sale price, but this stuff can often be up to $4/100g.
- Basmati (Alnubalaa) - $13.88 4.54kg/10lb bag -- Meh deal on rice. Maybe there's a quality thing about this brand.
- Phyllo pastry (Cedar) - $6.00 2x 450g packs -- Great deal for some essential pastry! Make some spanakopita!
- Produce Price Rating: Medium, but always has well-priced chicken, the deli meat sale rotations are always fantastic, and just the overall variety of goods is refreshing. Personal favourite store.
Farm Boy - Pork tenderloin - $3.99 per lb -- Not amazing. I try to aim for at least 2.99/lb or lower.
- Cauliflower - $2.99 each -- Nice!

- Produce Price Rating: High
Farmers Pick (can be a little late on their flyer) (
https://www.farmerspick.ca/flyer-specials)
Food Basics - Beef (rib-eye steak or roast) - $7.98 per lb -- Not an optimally-cheaper cut, but could be a treat if it's got nice fat lines, the grain isn't all over the place, and it's tender enough at the touch.
- Bacon (Selection) - $2.98 375g pack -- Limit of 3.
- Milk (Lactantia) - $4.98 4L bagged -- Nice little discount.
- Onions/Carrots - $1.98 2lb bag -- It's been remarkably tough to score more bulk-pricing for these staples. It's kind of upsettting.
- Vine tomatoes - $1.98 per lb -- Not amazing, but kinda standard price for 5000-mile salad bar winter tomatoes. They can easily range into $3/lb or more.
- Cucumber - $3.00 for 2 -- Not a terrible rate for cucumbers. $1.50 is more or less reasonable for a cucumber these days (sadly).
- Strawberries - $1.88 454g basket -- WOW! Fantastic price!
- Pineapple - $1.88 each -- WOW! Fantastic price!
- Grapes - $1.88 per lb -- Great rate on grapes!
- Clementines - $3.98 2lb bag -- Nice rate on clementines, not the best, but good enough still.

- Mascarpone (Tre Stelle) - $10.99 475g tub -- A key a ingredient in many desserts for a decent sale price.
- Frozen veg (Green Giant) - $2.98 500-750g bags -- Nice! Brand-name product at a good price. Value-branded frozen veg is about the same price, maybe 50c less.
- Canned tuna (Ocean's) - $0.99 170g can -- Nice! This is a decent price. It's hard to get it for less.
- Basmati (Arjun/Parliament) - $6.98 3.63kg/8lb bag -- Excellent deal on rice!
- Basmati (NooDivya/Parliament) - $7.99 4.54kg/10lb bag -- Even better deal on rice!
- Produce Price Rating: Low to medium low
FoodLand - Pork rib or tenderloin - $3.99 per lb -- Given FoodLand can run a little higher for prices, the tenderloin is ok-priced. Not sure about the pork rib given you're paying for bone. Aim for $3/lb for rib or lower.
- Potatoes (Russets) - $5.99 10lb bag -- 60c is the base rate I try to stick to for potatoes. So this is exactly average pricing for me.
- Clementines - $3.99 2lb bag -- Not the most amazing rate on fruit overall, but decent for clementines.
- Produce Price Rating: Medium-high to high.
Freshco (price matcher)
- Ground beef (lean) - $10.00 1kg pack -- Not the best rate for ground beef. $5/lb is an average/bare minimum sale price.
- Eggs - $4.77 18-pack -- Nice! 26c an egg versus about 30c for regular priced value-brand eggs.
- Cucumber - $1.49 each -- Like I said earlier about Food Basics. Not an amazing rate for cucumbers. $1 is the better target. But it's tough finding anything under 1.33 each.
- Garlic - $1.29 5-pack -- Nice! 3-packs are often $1. So this is really 2 extra heads for 29c.
- Fresh methi - $1.99 per bunch -- Nice to see fresh methi kicking around. Essential ingredient in a lot of indian cooking!
- Apples (Red Prince) - $0.99 per lb -- Nice rate on loose apples!
- Pears (Bartlett) - $0.99 per lb -- Another good rate for fruit! Sitting in that $1/lb for tough-ish/easy to ship fruit.
- Clementines - $2.99 2lb bag -- Aha! Now that's better! 1.50/lb instead of 2/lb!
- Cantaloupe - $2.49 each -- Nice!
- Sugar mango - $5.99 per lb -- More of a mention than a sale to buy into. I don't think I've had sugar mango…
- Sunflower oil - $2.00 1L bottle -- This is a decent deal on a smaller bottle of cooking oil. Sunflower oil has a great cooking temp and nice flavour.
- Basmati (Lal Qilla/Saleem) - $9.99 4.54kg/10lb bag -- Even better deal on rice!
- Produce Price Rating: Low to medium low (more on the medium side)
Giant Tiger (*note the VIP prices; sales begin today) (price matcher)
- Onions/Carrots - $1.97 2lb bag -- Member price for each. See what I mean? Carrots I understand, but onions should be cheaper…
- Celery - $1.88 per head -- Very good rate on celery! Usually a smaller head, but take a look! Hopefully the heads are nice this week!
- Iceberg lettuce - $1.88 per head -- Nice! Cheap salad greens!

- Produce Price Rating: Generally on the low side.
Green Fresh Supermarket (Vanier) (check
https://greenfreshsupermarketvanier.business.site/) (full flyers available here
https://bbs.comefromchina.com/members/102157/#latest-activity) * Produce Price Rating: Usually very competitive, catering to Asian cuisine. Warning: their newest sales start on Fridays - so this is a late advertising of their sales.
IGA (price matcher)
- Pork chops - $2.99 per lb -- Fair price on pork. $3 is very average as sale pricing goes. It's not terribly common to find it for less. Maybe don't go wild and stock up too much at that price range.
- Smoked pork shoulder - $2.88 per lb -- Nice! This stuff looks tasty!
- Cucumber - $2.98 for 2 -- More 1.50 cucumber.
- Lemons/Oranges (organic) - $0.99 each -- Does anyone else take offense to paying 99c for a lemon?
- Deli - Smoked ham (Mère Michel) - $2.69 per 100g -- Hard to call this a deal when you can often enough score deli meat for less. This is only slightly cheaper than prosciutto at Adonis, which is kinda whack lol
- Bologna (Olymel) - $14.99 1.8kg chub -- Well that's one way to skirt a higher price of deli…
- Produce Price Rating: Medium
Independent - Pork tenderloin - $2.99 per lb -- More $3/lb pork. Great to see!
- Chicken breast or thigh (boneless skinless) - $4.99 per lb -- Fairly priced cut of chicken!
- Ground beef (medium) - $4.49 per lb -- Decent enough price, but we've seen better. I would not stock up at this price. Wait for $4/lb or less.
- Potatoes (Russet) - $3.99 10lb bag -- Nice price for potatoes.
- Strawberries - $2.99 454g basket -- Not that Basics deal, but not a terrible rate on strawberries any day of the week.
- Produce Price Rating: fairly high with few exceptions
Loblaws - Weird - no sale -- flyer this week? Ended up about a day late. All to advertise basically the same prices as Independent lol. Mwomp mwomp.
- Pork tenderloin - $2.99 per lb -- More $3/lb pork.
- Blueberries - $3.44 full pint basket -- Great deal on blueberries! *Produce Price Rating: fairly high with few exceptions
- Produce Price Rating: fairly high with few exceptions
Provigo - Ground beef (medium) - $3.77 per lb -- Excellent price!!
- Chicken drumsticks - $1.99 per lb -- Hard to beat. Sometimes only marginally cheaper. This is a great price!
- Potatoes (Russet) - $3.99 10lb bag -- More well-priced spuds.
- Strawberries - $2.99 454g basket -- $3 strawberries for everyone, apparently! Lol
- Deli - Bologna (Olymel) - $1.99 per 100g -- Not that great a deal. It's bologna! Think back to that 1.8kg chub earlier for $15 at IGA. Those chubs are available everywhere in one format or another around that price. Like at Basics, you'd have to go for the Selection brand 675g pack, but that's still 70c/100g. Not 1.99!
- Produce Price Rating: Fairly high to eye watering
Maxi (price matcher)
- Ham shank (Cook's) - $1.99 per lb -- Great price on ham! Hassleback it, glaze it, bake it!
- Steelhead trout - $8.99 per lb -- Great price for trout! Usually $2-3/lb more.
- Sausages (Royal) - $10.00 1.2kg fam pack -- Great rate on sausage. That's basically $3/lb-ish. Also includes sales on frozen cooked chicken and various frozen fish.
- Bacon (No Name) - $5.00 500g pack -- $1/100g is a good target price for bacon.
- Smoked ham (Olymel) - $17.99 1.6kg (whole) -- This is a big ham but at a great rate. Use hams like this as a sub when deli meats aren't priced too well. My mom used to make a sandwich hash of minced smoked ham, pickles and some aromatics. It was easy to make, and even easier to setup sandwiches with it.
- Asparagus - $0.97 325g bunch -- Wow that's cheap!! I found the ones at Basics were very thick stemmed but still very good. Lightly fried for a few minutes, then add in some minced garlic, fry together some more until garlic is browned and asparagus is only-just softening. Yum!
- Cucumber - $0.97 each -- There we go! $1 cucumber brings me joy!
- Mushrooms - $1.77 227g basket -- Nice price on mushrooms!
- Sweet peppers - $3.99 4-pack -- Not bad, especially if the peppers are large and nice.
- Sweet potatoes - $1.49 per lb -- Not bad. It's been tough to find sweet potatoes under 1.29/lb-ish ranges. $1/lb is really tough to find.
- Potatoes (Russet) - $4.99 10lb bag -- I prefer $4 bags, but this is a decent price for potatoes considering regular prices can float a 10lb bag into the $7 range these days.
- Pineapple - $1.77 each -- Wow! Very nice!!!
- Cantaloupe - $2.99 each -- We've seen cheaper, but this is still a great rate on a melon. It's not common to see much cheaper.
- Navel oranges - $6.99 8lb case -- Fantastic deal for oranges! Lest we forget IGA's 99c organic oranges…
- Kiwi - $2.99 600g flat -- Nice! About $2-ish/lb for some fun different fruit!
- Saputo cheese - $6.44 252-600g -- This is a weird ad, but it should include 300g packs of feta, which is a good going rate.
- Canned tuna (Clover Leaf) - $1.49 170g can -- Fair average sale.
- Canned tomatoes (Aylmer) - $1.79 796ml can -- Not terrific, but fair for canned tomatoes. I'd still aim for $1.50-ish per can if I was stocking my pantry with extras.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally medium low pricing! This store can post some impressive deals at times.
Metro - Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - $4.66 per lb -- Great price on chicken breast! Nice to see recurring sales like this from Metro. It could be a bit of a loss-leader given their other pricing strategies. But again, still nice to see and worth scoring.
- Pork loin chops - $2.49 per lb -- Very nice price for pork!
- Beef (inside blade roast) - $5.99 per lb -- Reasonable and decent price for good quality blade roast. Inside round is also on sale for the same price.
- Rainbow trout - $9.99 per lb -- Ok price for trout, but ad also includes tilapia at the same price. So, fair price for trout, dumb price for tilapia that usually goes for much less.
- Green cabbage - $0.49 per lb -- Wow! Do my eyes deceive me? It almost looks like a mistake haha
- Clementines - $2.99 2lb bag -- Nice! Like we saw around this week, $4 is the upper going rate.
- Cantaloupe - $2.99 each -- More decently priced melon.
- Produce Price Rating: High. Kinda like Sobeys. You can see a 50% average mark-up compared to a lot of other stores. It's nice produce, but it costs you.
No Frills (price matcher)
- Ham shank (Cook's) - $1.99 per lb -- Same as Maxi sale!
- Eggs - $4.99 18-pack -- Good enough deal on eggs. Not ground-breaking but good.
- Pork rib - $3.22 per lb -- Not $3/lb, but really so close that it doesn't matter. Decent price for rib.
- Milk (Neilson) - $4.88 4L bagged -- Nice! That's a buck or two off the regular.
- Frozen meats - $10.00 1.2kg fam pack -- Same-ish deal as we found at Maxi, but it's a different selection of frozen meat products. Includes ground beef, meatballs, and pre-cooked chicken strips and nuggets.
- Cucumber - $1.44 each -- More of that semi-decent sale price cucumber. Again, not $1, but also not $2 lol.
- Potatoes (Imperfect, Russet) - $2.77 15lb bag -- WOW! That's 0.185c/lb!
- Potatoes (Red, Yellow) - $4.77 10lb bag -- Dang! Not the 15lb bag deal, but this is still a decent rate for potatoes any other day.
- Yellow onions - $4.99 10lb bag -- There we go! Finally! A good sale on onions… but for a 10lb bag!
- Mushrooms - $3.88 454g basket -- Good deal on mushrooms. It's not uncommon to see $3 227g baskets.
- Avocado - $3.88 bag of 5-6 -- Decent enough for cado.
- Beefsteak tomatoes - $2.22 per lb -- Not a bad rate on tomato. There are some vine tomato deals going around for less, though.
- Broccolini - $2.22 per bunch -- Nice! Awesome healthy green for a decent enough price. I don't know the weight, but each bunch is usually good for 2 people.
- Mini cucumbers - $2.88 6-pack -- Ok-ish price… There's better out there surely.
- Indian eggplant - $1.69 per lb -- Nice! Tiny eggplant!
- Kiwi - $0.55 each -- It's about 5 kiwis to a pound. That's a decent rate.
- Cantaloupe - $1.88 each -- Great deal on a melon!
- Ataufulo mangoes - $6.77 5lb case -- These are popping up this week. I don't know much about this variety, but they're going for about 1.25 each. So, this is a heckin' deal!
- Strawberries - $2.44 454g basket -- Nice! More cheap strawberries!
- Mandarins - $6.99 4lb bag -- Great rate on mandarins!
- Coconut - $0.99 each -- Nice!
- Paneer (Brar's) - $4.99 375g brick -- Nice! Decent deal on paneer. Sometimes there's better, but this is good still.
- Brick cheese (Armstrong) - $4.88 400g bar -- Good ol' sub-$5 brick cheese.
- Frozen pasta (Villa Pastas) - $2.77 400g bag -- Oh nice! I love getting products like these every now and then. Though, I gotta master making my own. But, just a tip: don't go bonkers on portion sizes. These are high-calorie and should be matched with a portion of veg.
- Perogies (Cheemo) - $2.77 907g box -- Nice quick meal!
- Bread, rolls/buns (D'italianno) - $2.88 675g loaf, 6/8 packs -- Good rate on nice bread!
- Bread, Bagels (Country Harvest) - $2.88 600g loaf, 6-pack -- Again, good rate on nice bread, just multigrain this time!
- Cube stuck (Knorr) - $0.99 8-pack -- These are a staple in my spice cabinet. You can transform any meal into a very palatable experience with cube stock like this.
- Plant-based beverage (Earth's Own) - $3.77 1.89L -- Nice deal on almond beverage. Ad says it's for other types as well.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally quite low, selectively amazing for some items.
Produce Depot (usually a little late on the flyer)
https://producedepot.ca/ - Pork rib - $2.59 per lb -- Oh wow! That's a great rate on rib. You don't see it got below $3/lb, which is already a reasonable price. Less-than is rare and welcome!
- Asparagus - $1.49 per lb -- Awesome! This is a great price! Comparable to the 97c 325g bunches at Maxi.
- Broccoli crowns - $1.49 each -- Pretty good! Uncommon to have much cheaper than this. Broc can range into the $2 a crown territory fairly often. I wonder about the size, but the price is reasonable given prices overall these days.
- Hothouse tomatoes - $1.99 per lb -- Like I said earlier in the review, this is actually a not-bad price for tomatoes. I suspect they'll get much cheaper as they come into season.
- Strawberries - $1.49 454g basket -- WOW! Amazing deal!!!
- Clementines (stem and leaf) - $2.49 per lb -- Not a great price for clementines off the bat, but it's cheaper than Adonis' ad for the same product.
- Deli - Cooked chicken (Maple Lodge) - $1.79 per 100g -- Very nice! Great to see cheap deli meat!
- Ham shank (Cook's) - $1.99 per lb -- Again with this $2 shank deal! I guess some of you should take the hint and eat ham! LOL
- Ground beef (lean) - $10.00 1.1kg fam pack -- Decent rate on ground. This is about 4.13/lb. Which is a fair rate.
- Eggplant - $1.49 per lb -- Nice! That's a good deal on eggplant!
- Avocado - $4.00 bag of 6 -- Not bad. It seems cado prices are stabiliizing in this $4-ish for 5-6 in a bag.
- Mini cucumber - $4.00 11-pack -- WOW! Great deal on these little bad boys.
- Sweet potatoes - $1.29 per lb -- Very decent rate for sweet potato (but check below for the real deal of the week)
- Strawberries - $3.74 2lb basket -- Nice! More cheap strawberries!
- Pineapple - $1.99 each -- Great to see more of this! $2 is a great deal!
- Kiwi - $5.00 2lb basket -- More well-priced kiwi.
- Brick cheese (No Name) - $3.99 400g bar -- Optimum member price. $1 more if not.
- Ghee (Brar's) - $12.99 800g tub -- Ghee is actually very consistently priced in the $15 range, but a few bucks off is never bad! Great for cooking. Shelf-stable and last months.
- Feta (Tre Stelle) - $18.00 1kg -- Now, most people don't go through this much feta. It's more to show the bulk rate on feta at 1.80/100g. So, feta at say $2/100g is fair.
- Deli - Roast beef/Smoked meat - $2.50 per 100g -- Fair price for beef deli meat.
- Jasmine rice (Rooster) - $13.99 8kg bag -- Awesome rate on rice!
- Filo (7 Days) - $4.99 850g -- Phyllo… Filo… Phyllo… Filo… Anyhow, decent rate on the stuff, very comparable to that Adonis deal we saw at the start.
- Spend more than $300 and get a free turkey - -- Well, I wouldn't usually mention this sorta thing, but a lot of us can easily blow $300 in a grocery store. Worth keeping in mind.
- Produce Price Rating: Generally medium-low pricing, selectively amazing for some items.
Sobeys - Pork roast, shoulder, chops/steaks - $2.99 per lb -- Nice sale price across a variety of cuts.
- Stewing beef - $5.99 per lb -- Member price. $1/lb more if not, which is out of range as really a good price for cubed beef.
- Gound beef (lean) - $4.99 per lb -- Like we've seen, it ain't bad, but it's not the best. We've seen it drop to about $4/lb fairly regularly. If you need it, don't overbuy.
- Bacon (Compliments) - $12.99 1kg pack -- Not bad but still above that $1/100g I like to stick around.
- Fresh salad greens (Compliments) - $3.77 312g bin -- Member price. Otherwise, $5 a bin.
- Apples (Gala, Granny Smith) - $0.99 per lb -- Great price for apples.
- Navel oranges - $0.99 per lb -- It's funny. They advertise right beside the apples that citrus is in season. I kind of rail against non-sense assertions like that when there'S citrus crop coming out SOMEWHERE in the world any day of the week. Plus, the navel oranges are the only deal. Their other varieties look cool, but sport some of the most worst novelty pricing in town for any fruit.
- Flour (Five Roses, Robinhood) - $11.97 10kg bag --
- Produce Price Rating: Some sales can be quite good. But, it's generally a high price store, especially for produce. Some items are 50% more than more value-oriented stores.
Super C - Beef barded king roast - $4.85 per lb -- Very nice rate on beef, and a roast that's basically oven-ready. Makes me think of the reverse sear method. Bake at a low temp, and then sear when the internal temp is where you want it.
- Pork cubes - $2.99 per lb -- Well that's funky. Not often you see cubed pork. It's usually beef. The price is ok. Whole cuts are basically the same price.
- Pork tenderloin - $2.95 per lb -- There's that whole cut. Basically the same price.
- Boiling chicken - $1.29 per lb -- Fantastic rate on chicken!
- Chicken legs with back - $1.99 per lb -- Great deal on a nice cut! I love braising these cuts. The gravy you get is top-notch!
- Asparagus - $0.95 325g bunch -- Nice! More cheap asparagus! Out of season, it can range easily to $3-4 a bunch.
- Mini cucumbers - $1.88 6-pack -- Nice! Great price! Comparable to the RCSS deal.
- Potatoes (Russet) - $2.44 10lb bag -- Another fantastic potato deal!
- Sweet potatoes - $0.99 per lb -- Very good price!
- Radishes - $0.99 per bunch -- Nice!
- Squash - $1.24 per lb -- Kinda tough to find cheap squash in the last weeks, actually. This is a great deal!
- Kale - $1.49 per bunch -- Nice!
- Mini carrots - $0.99 340g bag -- Nice!
- Rutabaga - $0.99 per lb -- Decent enough. I'd aim for less, but rutabaga has a tremendous shelf-life in the fridge. Or, cube and freeze it. I find it keeps its integrity just fine. It's nice to throw it into soups as a carrot or potato alternative.
- Green cabbage - $0.99 per lb -- Not the Metro deal by a long shot, and kind of higher-than standard for sale-pricing on cabbage these days. But, still lower than non-sale pricing.
- Celery - $2.49 per head -- Nice!
- Navel oranges - $0.74 per lb -- VERY NICE! This an AWESOME rate on oranges!
- Lemons/Limes - $0.50 each -- Average sale for lemons, a little better for the limes.
- Mozzarelissima (Saputo) - $4.55 500g bar -- Excellent price for mozz!
- Margaine (Lactantia) - $1.89 427g tub -- Fair price for a butter alternative. Litte note: in a sense, it's crazy that butter and olive oil are so comparable in price right now…
- Canned tomatoes (Aylmer) - $1.34 796ml can -- YESSS! Stock up!
- Basmati (777) - $9.99 10lb bag -- Good eal on rice. There's better around, but this isn't terrible by any means. I'd get this if it meant avoiding making excessive trips to other stores.
- Toilet paper (Cashmere) - $6.49 15 rolls -- Good deal on toilet paper, I think. It's a weird world to gauge, but this strikes me as a good deal.
Walmart - Utility turkey (grade A) - $1.66 per lb -- Nice! Utility turkeys usually have a tear in the skin or they're missing a leg or something. I love making a turkey here and there and freeze the meat for soups and sandwiches. Line your roasting tray with carrots, celery, and onion with a little water. After the turkey is done cooking, recover the cooked veg and drippings to make a CRAZY gravy.
- Breakfast sausage (Maple Leaf) - $11.97 1.2kg pack -- Great price for good quality sausage. The only better deal I think find is the nameless brand 2kg packs at Basics, which I last found for $15. And I don't think they're as tasty as the Maple Leaf.
- Smoked ham (Great Value) - $14.97 1.4kg (whole) -- More well-priced ham at that $1/100g mark.
- Sweet potatoes - $0.57 per lb -- HOLY COW! That's an amazing price for sweet potato!
- Celery - $2.47 per head -- Nice!
- Green cabbage - $0.67 per lb -- Nice! Below 88c/lb is a good deal. So, this is a very good deal, and that Metro sale is outrageous verging on error.
- Ataulfo magno - $0.97 each -- Other sales were more in the 1.25 each range, except that one sale for a whole case. So, $1 each is reasonable.
- Pineapple - $2.99 each -- Not the greatest given some other sales, but still decent.
- Grapes - $1.84 per lb -- Great rate on grapes! Often $3-41/lb.
- Paneer (Happy Dairy) - $3.97 300g block -- Nice! This is a great rate on paneer
- Rondelé cheese spread - $2.97 125g pack -- The walnut spread is out of this world. This on sale is a no-brainer treat for the week.
- Butter (Gay Lea) - $4.87 454g bar -- Nice sub-$5 butter!
- Ghee (Brar's) - $22.97 1.6kg -- A marginal few bucks off by getting the double-size container of ghee.

2024.02.25 22:04 Important-Sky4627 I am 31 years old, make $130,000, live in Boston, work as a Senior Paralegal, and I had a deceptively social week
☀️ for context, I grew up in a single parent immigrant household. We lived in a low income city and were eligible for reduced lunch. My sister and I both went to college on (almost) full ride scholarships and graduated. I do not receive any financial support from my parents.
BTW - I am using a format similar to an MD I saw posted here 2 years ago!
✏️ Section One: Assets and Debt
🔳 Retirement Balance:
▫️401k: $101,274.69 Currently I only contribute 6% of my salary to my 401k to take full advantage of my company match. My job contributes 10% of my salary to my 401k. This is the most generous retirement plan I’ve been apart of in my career and felt the effects almost immediately after starting.
▫️Roth IRA: $10,417.36 I started this account about 2 years ago or so. I haven’t always been great about contributing to it, but now that I am in a better paying job I try to contribute $300 a month to this. I also split my assets here between VTI/VOO funds to diversify a bit.
🔳 Brokerage Account: $5,439.12 I started this account about a year ago and try to contribute $300 a month here
🔳 Equity: 0, I rent
🔳 Savings Account Balance: $16,370. 15k is my emergency fund, and the rest is an informal ‘travel’ fund
🔳 Credit Union Bank Account: $3,538. This was my first ever bank account where I would keep money when I was in high school, college and immediately post grad. I don’t actively contribute to this account anymore but keep it open because I got my car loan through this bank at a super low rate (1.99%!).
🔳 HYSA: $58,062.20
🔳 Checking Account Balance: $2,709. Abnormally high for me because I need to pay rent still
🔳 Credit card debt: 0. I put everything on my credit card and never carry over a balance
🔳 Student loan debt: 0.
🔳 Car loan: $2,625.71
✏️ Section Two: Income
🔳 Income Progression: I've been working in my field for 10 years, my starting salary was $43,000.
▫️Job 1: 2014-2017. Paralegal at a small firm making $43,000. Was here for 3.5 years. I received couple of raises I believe $1,000 each. Never got a % increase. I tried leaving this job 2 years in for money and ended up getting a market increase which brought me to $60k when I left.
▫️Job 2: 2017- 2018. Paralegal at a medium sized firm making $65,000. This was a big mistake on my part. I was in a toxic work environment in Job 1 and desperate to leave. I took Job 2 and was making the same salary except working more hours - I went from working 35 hours a week to 37.5. The health insurance was also crazy expensive and the environment was even more toxic than the prior one. I lasted 1 year on the dot pretty much.
▫️Job 3: 2019-2023. Paralegal in “big law” making $75,000. I received one increase of $2k. I was here during covid and for a period of time I was on a wage freeze. In late 2021, I asked for a raise. My job did not give me a raise until spring 2022 after I was insistent on it. During the waiting time I was looking for new jobs trying to change my career path but wanted to leverage Job 3 as much as I could. When I finally got my increase it was to $93,000.
▫️Job 4: 2023-Present. Senior Corporate Paralegal at a publicly traded company making $120,000 base and 5% bonus. I spent a year and a half trying to change my career out of being a paralegal and got some job offers, but the salary or benefits was never right. I finally settled on my current job because they had strong benefits, acceptable salary and a percentage based bonus structure based on performance and more growth opportunities. I started here April 2023 and in November 2023 during my performance review I got a 3.75% increase bringing me to $124,400 base with 5% bonus bringing me to $130,620.
🔳 Have you changed careers? Did you recently have a breakthrough in your career? ▫️Yes! For the first 9 years of my career I was a real estate paralegal. I am now a senior corporate paralegal. My job is 10000000% different than what I used to do. Although I spent time trying to get into project management or legal operations, I would still consider this a huge career change. I also no longer work at a law firm and work at a publicly traded company.
🔳 Main Job Monthly Take Home: $6,236.36
▫️401k: $574.62
▫️health insurance: $140.92
▫️dental: $7.90
▫️vision: $8.88
▫️FSA: $190
✏️ Section Three: Monthly Expenses
🔳 Rent: $1400, my half for an apartment I share with my roommate.
🔳 Retirement contribution: $300 a month to my Roth IRA
🔳 Savings contribution: 25% of paycheck automatically going into my HYSA. Equates to $1,559.10 monthly.
🔳 Investment contribution: $300 a month to a managed brokerage account
🔳 Debt payments: $227 for my car payment. Now that I am in a higher paying job, I pay $300 a month. If I get a bonus at work, I always make sure to put money towards my car.
🔳 Donations: 0. I volunteer for 3-4 hours a month at a local women’s day shelter in the kitchen. I also recently organized a donation drive at my company.
🔳 Electric: $75
🔳 Gas: $49
🔳 Wifi: $57
🔳 Cellphone: $77.37
🔳 Subscriptions:
Hulu $7.99
Netflix $15.49
iCloud $1.99
🔳 Gym membership: $68.
‼️DISCLAIMER‼️ - out of pocket I pay $220 for Equinox. My health insurance reimburses me for 6 months of fees and my company gives me $500 for wellness reimbursement. I combined these benefits together to knock down the price to $68 😎
Yearly Expenses:
🔳 Car insurance: $899.15
🔳 Renters insurance: $91 a year, this is a bundle through my car insurance

⚡️DAY ONE - FRIDAY⚡️
▫️7am: alarm goes off. I decided to sleep in today since I am working from home.
▫️8am: make some breakfast - eggs and TJs hashbrowns. I brew coffee from my Nespresso - Bianco Doppio over ice with oat milk 😋
▫️8:30am: log on to work for the day
▫️9:03am: I get an email from the company that manages my FSA account asking for a receipt for a pair of glasses I purchased last week. I save all my receipts so I’m able to quickly upload it to get the purchase approved
▫️10:30am: One of the projects I’m working on is implementing a new contracts management system for the my department and my role has been to project manage the proposal process. Today I lead a discussion with the working team to discuss questions from our potential vendors. It sounds fancy but realistically I’m sharing my screen and typing out our responses to the vendor questions.
▫️12:10pm: I head out to a heated sculpt class at a nearby studio. I pay with a class pack I previously purchased during a sale ($17.85).
▫️1:15pm: WOW that class was AMAZING. The class consists of lots of small movements with light weights and a cardio burst (think corepower yoga sculpt but no yoga) in a heated room. I loved the instructors energy and was absolutely dripping in sweat after! I head back home.
▫️2:15pm: late lunch today. I whip up my salad that I’ve been having this week: Arugula, roasted sweet potatoes, goat cheese crumbles, pecans, apples, and shrimp topped with homemade balsamic dressing. I eat at my desk while I work.
▫️5:30pm: done for the day! Time to park it on the couch
▫️8pm: heat up teriyaki steak tips from last night with sweet potato “fries”. 2 Clementines for dessert. I catch up On Love is Blind with my roommate, N.
▫️11pm: bed time 😴
💰Daily total: $17.85💰
⚡️DAY TWO - SATURDAY⚡️
▫️7:30am: I wake up exhausted and with period cramps so I get out of bed, change my tampon, and take some Advil and go back to sleep.
▫️9am: i’m awake for real this time and I am so shocked that I slept so much! Normally, I am up by 7 and take an 8 AM workout class but last night I was feeling crampy and just knew that it would be best to take a rest day. I linger in bed for a little bit before I get up to make some breakfast.
▫️9:30am: eggs and Trader Joe’s hash browns with some Nespresso coffee again. I watch Traitors on Peacock.
▫️11am: Time to shower - today is a hair wash day for me. I have naturally curly hair and sensitive skin so I’m pretty particular about my products. To wash, I use Necessaire shampoo and Briogeo “don’t despair, repair” conditioner. For styling, section off my hair and apply ColorWow “dream cocktail” leave in conditioner and “dream coat” spray then blow dry and straighten.
▫️12:30pm: I head out to do some returns. I decide to drive out to the suburbs because I have a ton of stops to make. I pack a protein bar for the road in case I get hungry. On the way, I listen to Crime Junkies episode on Maura Murray. The mall is a half hour away so this is perfect for the drive. ($1.15 in tolls)
▫️3pm: I stop by Ulta and grab a NYX brow pencil in the shade espresso ($12.25) and a smaller barreled Olivia Garden blow dry brush ($30.20). I have a really big barrel now and have been practicing my blow outs, and thought a slightly smaller barrel would hold the style better. ($42.45)
▫️4pm: I arrive back home and am SO relieved I got everything done especially since I will be out of town next weekend. I snack on a baby bell cheese and a banana until dinner time. ($1.15 in tolls)
▫️7pm: dinner time and binge Love is Blind
▫️7:30pm: decide to whip up these 7 ingredient brownies for me and my roommate. Delicious!!!
▫️8:30pm: move onto Love Island All Stars
▫️11pm: bed time 😴
💰Daily total: $44.75💰
⚡️DAY THREE - SUNDAY⚡️
▫️7:30am: wake up and TikTok scroll. I get consumed by the “who tf did I marry?!?” TikTok saga. HIGHLY recommend.
▫️9:45am: I have almost no food left in my fridge so I eat an English muffin with peanut butter and a chocolate chip GoMacro bar before the gym.
▫️10am: i get dressed and head out. I’m feeling better period-wise and signed up for a Barefoot Sculpt class. I’m planning on driving up to my hometown to visit my mom for the day so I make sure to pack a quick change of clothes so I can shower at the gym. I also scoop up my sister, B. along the way.
▫️10:20am: I was going to pay to park in the gym garage but I managed to find a resident parking spot!! So rare to find in the city - I take it as a good omen and quickly park.
▫️11:15am: class was alright, not my favorite but I’m still glad I got some movement in.
▫️12pm: on my way out from the gym, I stop by La Colombe to grab a black oat and tan ($5.84). I regret buying this since I’ve had better coffee from La Colombe. I don’t often buy coffee but got so consumed by the TikTok series I totally forgot to make a coffee!
▫️12:30pm: while in class, I got an email alert telling me that my new nutribullet (my old one shit the bed) got delivered to my apartment so I quickly circle back to put the package inside so it doesn’t get stolen. After that minor detour, I’m on the road for real this time.
▫️1pm: arrive at my moms house. She has food ready for us, our favorite roasted chicken from a local bodega and roasted potatoes my mom made.
▫️4:45pm: my sister and I say goodbye to our mom and leave to grab groceries before driving back to Boston. Whenever we are in our hometown, we always do a grocery run here because it’s substantially cheaper than in Boston. For example, a pound of chicken breast might be 12.99/lb in Boston and in our town it’s 4.99/lb. Really high savings!! So i stock up on steak tips, chicken cutlets, shrimp, wings, chicken thighs and everything else I need for the week ($94.11).
▫️7:30pm: time to whip up some dinner. I decide to do air fryer wings. I season them with paprika, Italian seasoning, garlic and onion powder. I continue to watch and listen to the “who tf did I marry” series on TikTok.
▫️10pm: I’m at part 30 of the series (there are 50 parts lol) and I’m still absolutely captivated, but decide to take a break and pick it back up tomorrow.
▫️11pm: bed time 😴
💰daily total: $99.95💰
⚡️DAY FOUR - MONDAY⚡️
▫️7am: my alarm goes off and I’m out of bed. Today’s Presidents’ Day and I’m off today, and have a busy day ahead of me.
▫️7:36am: I failed to mobilize on time and am running late 🙄. I signed up for a volunteer shift at a women’s day shelter this morning. I managed to eat an English muffin with peanut butter, half a banana and a La Colombe canned draft oat milk latte.
▫️8:10am: I arrive at the kitchen 10 minutes late and frazzled AF. I had booked a SpotHero ($12.50) close by-ish but couldn’t find it and ended up parking at a more expensive garage closer to the shelter ($25). I’m going to expense both of these with my parking subsidy from work later on so it doesn’t really matter, just super annoying ($37.50).
▫️11am: shift over- time to drive home! Today I prepped ginger and cut up a ton of melons for fruit salad. I volunteer at this shelter about once a month or so and really enjoy it. I have been involved with them for about 8 years now. I used to do more fundraising but switched to the kitchen because that felt like less of a “chore” and I got tired of constantly asking my friends to come to events. I feel like I have so much free time on my hands on weekends and volunteer work helps keep me occupied instead of rotting on my couch hating my single life. I make a mental note to sign up for a shift again in a few weeks.
▫️11:30am: I get back to my apartment and quickly splash water on my face and get ready. I got Bruins tickets through work and the game is at 1pm. I reheat some frozen pizza in my air fryer and squeeze in a few more episodes of “Who tf did I marry?!?” I throw on jeans, white long sleeve T shirt and white sneaks, baseball hat and a pea coat. Best part about sporting events is how casual they are!
▫️1pm: my sister B. And I take an Uber ($8.10) and we arrive at the garden. I got 4 tickets and also invited my friend L. and another friend G. We get to enter in a special entrance designated for our section and feel fancy AF. I try manifesting meeting my husband at this game.
▫️1:05pm: we get to the concession stand and B.’s coworker is the bartender! We get drinks with a small discount. My friend L. Pays and I Venmo her ($15).
▫️2pm: end of the first period we are tied 1-1.
▫️3pm: end of second we are tied 2-2. L. Gets another round of drinks ($15) and I Venmo her again.
▫️4pm: we were down 3-2, but with 1:45 left we tied it! Bring on overtime!!
▫️4:30pm: no one scored during OT, so we go to a shoot out. We won!!!! 3-4 final score. First time I’ve gone to a hockey game that went to a shootout. What a game!
▫️5:15pm: we go to a bar across the street for another drink. I’m done drinking and have a water. While at the bar, B. Asks if I could get her a high noon. I grab it and make sure to put it on our sister Splitwise ($11).
▫️6pm: B. and I split an Uber back home since we live close to each other ($8.10). When I get home, I snack on a baby bell cheese and half a banana before dinner.
▫️7pm: my mom calls me and we chat. She senses that I’m unhappy (which I am). I absolutely hate being single and am ready for marriage and children. I’ve basically all but given up on love and wonder if it will ever be my “turn”. I keep quiet during our call and mostly let her talk because I don’t want to fight and don’t feel like getting crying. I just really hate being single. That’s really all there is to it.
▫️8pm: turkey bolognese and pasta for dinner tonight. And no I didn’t just whip this up out of nowhere - I make a batch and freeze individual services for nights I’m too lazy to cook. SO clutch. I also prepped ingredients for my salads this week. Chill and finish up the remaining parts of “who tf did I marry?!?”. If there is anything I took away from that woman’s story, it is to not get married out of fear of being alone.
▫️11pm: bed time 😴
💰daily total: $94.70💰
⚡️DAY FIVE - TUESDAY⚡️
▫️6am: alarm goes off and I cannot bare to get out of bed. I have a minor hangover and just need more time to sleep, ughhh
▫️6:30am: finally get up, TikTok scroll and put off getting out of bed
▫️7:15 finally up and out of bed for real this time. I wash & style my hair again so I have a clean scalp for the week. I wear black slacks from Ann Taylor and a black J. Crew turtle neck with black booties. I’m trying to look more cute/less frumpy at work these days - look good, feel good! For my work makeup I apply Ilia skin tint, NYX brow pencil, huda beauty concealer, ilia bronzer and makeup by Mario blush.
▫️8:45:am pack up my lunch quickly, make some coffee to go, and pack my gym back since I’m going to the gym after work today.
▫️8:55am: I was going to walk and get to work late but I realized an Uber was only $10.72! I quickly book it. 99.99% of the time I walk to work (about 30min walk) or take the bus, but I was running late and said screw it.
▫️9:10am: arrive at work. I heat up meal prepped egg cups I keep in my freezer along with an English muffin with peanut butter + coffee. I sit at my desk and get to work.
▫️12:30pm: lunch time! I walk with my coworker E. So she can pick up her lunch and we can get some fresh air. We come back to the building and eat in the kitchen with a couple other of our team members. For lunch I have the same salad I always make.
▫️5pm: log off work for the day and head to the gym.
▫️5:15pm: I arrive at the gym and change and hop on a tread. I am still feeling a little woozy from yesterday so incline walk + TikTok scroll it is.
▫️6pm: finish my hot girl walk and go to the locker room to shower and change.
▫️630: hop on the bus home. I use my Charlie card to pay ($0, paid with my transit reimbursement)
▫️7:30pm: dinner time. I originally was planning on making turkey tacos for dinner this week, but I decide to freeze the ground turkey and make it for next week since I’m only gonna have dinner at home a few nights this week. I make banana pancakes (oats, banana, eggs, and flax seeds) for dinner.
▫️8pm: tv time
▫️9:30pm: I prepped my lunch for tomorrow morning and lay in bed and continue reading my book. I’ve been reading the Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride since the beginning of January. I’m almost done and I’m being honest I did not like the book too much. I feel like it’s really slow and the summary was a little misleading, but I’m determined to finish it stick to my new years resolution, which was to read before bed.
▫️11pm - sleep 😴
💰daily total: $10.72💰
⚡️DAY SIX - WEDNESDAY⚡️
▫️6am: alarm goes off. I slowly rouse myself out of bed and get up and ready to head out. I’m working out this morning so I just need to change, put my lunch in my bag, brew coffee and go.
▫️6:45am: park at office. I have no idea why but I randomly to drive to the garage at work and park there. ($0, paid with my parking reimbursement).
▫️6:55am arrive at gym. I try to get there early so I can squeeze an incline walk before class.
▫️7:30am: time for Pilates fusion! Today we used gliders and a resistance ring. It wasn’t my favorite class but it was still fairly challenging. Lots of deep core movements.
▫️8:15am: shower and get ready in the locker room. Sometimes I like getting ready at Equinox more than my own place because the shower is nicer and the lighting is better
▫️9am: I arrive at work and have breakfast. Meal prepped egg cups, English muffin with pb and coffee.
▫️1:30 lunch time. My coworkers and I decide to take a quick walk to a new bakery nearby to check it out. I don’t get anything.
When I get back to my desk I took a bite of my salad and immediately gagged. My baby kale went bad 😩. I throw it all out and have a protein bar, fresh strawberries and trail mix for lunch. Thank god I already worked out today or else I wouldn’t make it.
▫️5pm: time to head home. I go downstairs to my car and drive home.
▫️6:30pm: dinner time. I used my air fryer to make wings and sweet potato fries
▫️7:30pm: I start packing for my trip this weekend. I’m going to NYC to visit a friend and have plans Thursday so I have to get this done asap.
▫️8:30pm: Love is a Blind and chill until bedtime 😴
💰daily total: $0💰
⚡️DAY SEVEN - THURSDAY⚡️
▫️6am: I’m up!!! No time to bed rot since I signed up for an early gym class. I mobilize as quickly as I can and head out.
▫️636am: take the bus to the gym ($0, paid with my transit reimbursement)
▫️7:15am: I signed up for Ashtanga yoga today. I try to incorporate yoga 1-2x a week because it’s so good for my mental health and also my back. I find that the meditation and mindfulness aspect of yoga really help me moreso than a regular workout class.
▫️8am: class over and get ready for work.
▫️8:45: arrive at work. Breakfast, as usual, is my egg cups + English muffin with pb and coffee.
▫️11:30am: I take a break by going to the building parking office buy some parking passes. As an employee of my building, I am eligible to buy discounted passes. I pay with my own card ($130) and will submit the receipt for reimbursement later on.
▫️1pm: lunch time. I eat at my desk and shut my door to shamelessly scroll on TikTok for a little bit.
▫️4:45pm: I pack up and go home for the day. I normally walk to and from work depending on when I go to the gym. My walk is about 30 minutes and i usually listen to a podcast or send voice notes to friends.
▫️5:15pm: I arrive home and have to quickly change - I’m meeting up with my friend A. shortly. I put on the same black turtle neck I wore Tuesday (lol), black jeans and Chelsea boots. I throw on my prized possession - a wool camel coat from Sezane 🤣 it literally took me a year of contemplating before I bought this coat. Hair up in a claw clip and chunky earrings and I feel so grown up!
▫️6-8pm ish: the wine bar is a quick walk from my apartment. I haven’t seen A. since December. She’s a teacher so we usually see each other during school vacation weeks. We have some wine and a bunch of apps ($73.88).
▫️8:30pm: I get home and chat with my roommate N. for a little recapping our days. I still need to finish packing because I’m heading to NYC tomorrow to visit my friend M.
▫️9:30pm: chill in bed until I fall asleep😴.
💰daily total: $203.88💰

▫️Home + Health: $9

2024.02.04 21:26 JuneJabber Murasaki sweet potato, plus calorie comparison with potatoes and yams.
No picture of the dish, plus it was boring looking anyway, but here’s a picture of what the murasaki sweet potatoes look like at Trader Joe’s. They’re interesting. When baked they taste like a sweet potato, but almost syrupy sweet. They have an unexpectedly dense fudge like and sticky texture. A baked garnet yam isn’t as sweet and has a lighter texture. It’s so sweet and fudgy that it would be a good base for desserts like pudding, ice cream, Creami, pie filling, etc. Or just baked, cubed, and topped with whatever you like for dessert. I wanted it savory so I topped it with salt and toasted sesame oil. Really nice sweet salty combo. Super filling! Would be good with chawanmushi or dashimaki tomago for protein. Maybe with seaweed or cucumber salad and some Clementine oranges to make it into a full meal. I’ve included pics of macros of the sweet potato versus yam versus Yukon gold potato. I was surprised the sweet potato was the highest in protein. submitted by JuneJabber to goodrestrictionfood [link] [comments]

2024.01.07 17:20 Bakayokounderyourbed Leroy London* 2.0
Yesterday we had dinner had Leroy for the second time. Last time we loved the vibe of the restaurant and the fantastic but no-nonsense food. The dinner was à-la-carte and we shared the following dishes:
Deviled eggs - these were such a nice start last time that we decided to have them again. Lovely creamy and with a pleasant kick of spicy paprika.
Flatbread with anchovy and tomato - inspired by Brat? See my Brat* review on their life-changing anchovy bread. This was not on their level but very tasty nonetheless. Rich tomato flavour and great umami from the anchovy without being too overpowering.
Smoked eel Caesar salad with crispy chicken skin - undoubtedly the best salad I have ever had. I love the smokiness of the eel and the combination with the salad was impeccable.
Rabbit bolognese with tagliatelle - rich and deep flavour. Had a nice kick to it as well and pasta was perfectly cooked. Great dish.
Paris-Brest dessert - pastry with a praline cream. Rich and decadent but well balanced because of the added clementine.
Chocolate / coffee mousse with an almond cookie - our favourite dessert. Incredible mouse which had a pleasant bitterness because of the coffee.
Ended with light and fluffy madeleines, straight from the oven. Liberally dusted with icing sugar.
All in all another great dinner. Staff was very warm and welcoming. Terrific wine as well!

2024.01.02 17:19 jinglejangle89 Child keep stealing food/candy…advice?
My brain feels all over the place, so I’m going to try to make this all make sense. I will edit as needed, so I apologize in advance.
Backstory: my husband and I grew up with unchecked access to food and the adults in our lives did not help us make healthy choices in food. We both became morbidly obese and we have been working on ourselves, as well as learning how to help our kids make good food choices. We have conversations all the time about eating protein first, healthy carbs, appropriate vegetables and listening to our bodies when we are full instead of finishing all the food on our plates.
My husband and I have two kids (N- 6m and C - 4f). Our son has developed a habit of stealing sweets/dessert-type food early in the morning when we are asleep. This has been going on for a couple of years and we don’t know how to break this habit.
We have continuous conversations about how food is just food and how some foods are “sometimes foods” and others are “all the time foods”. We include dessert with dinner. Dessert is typically 1-2 cookies, a scoop of ice cream, a little Debbie snack, etc. We don’t keep a ton of snack foods but we do have some.
We usually hide the desserts but I accidentally left some peppermint candy in a grocery bag on the counter from a trip to my parents’ house over the holidays. I found some the wrappers shoved between N’s mattress and the wall this morning. This is just the most recent thing he’s taken.
He has convinced his little sister to give him her candy from her stocking after he had eaten all of his Christmas candy.
Our son sees a therapist for ADHD and emotional regulation. She advised us to have a snack drawer in the fridge that N can pull from if he gets hungry. We are working on adding more variety but right now, he has picked meat/cheese sticks and clementines.
N’s therapist also advised as a consequence for stealing that if he takes sweets without asking, then he goes the rest of the day and the following day without any sweets.
We see N’s therapist at the end of the week, so we will talk with her about what’s been happening this week. We spent the last week with my parents and he didn’t take a single thing, even though they have more desserts/snacks in their pantry and on the counters. As soon as we got home, he started sneaking food in the mornings again.
I am very worried we’ve already created a food obsession with N. I don’t like hiding food or the thought of locking the pantry. I don’t know how to help him.
I’m also worried that I’m projecting my food issues onto N because I desperately don’t want him to go down the same road that I went down. He is already a tad bigger for his height.
Am I making a bigger deal than it is? What should we do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2023.12.27 22:29 AmateurMinipainter Ate the wrong food for xmas, knew i'd regret it, hoped i wouldn't = IBS horror
Known trigger foods will be highlighted.
2nd year of being alone for xmas but this time I wanted to try and capture that feeling of ...closeness/family..whatever it's called when you have the traditional meal together and despite the work, mess and minor arguments it's still enjoyable.
Rotaried a small chicken, steamed carrots and parsnips, made Paxo stuffing into 6 balls, bread sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy and pigs in blankets.
Dessert was just a clementine whenever I wanted one.
Suffice to say that despite trying my best, I didn't recapture any feeling apart from longing, and the meal wasn't very enjoyable, but what it did give me was agonising lower back pain, multiple bouts of diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain.

2023.12.19 15:55 ParisDreamer5 28F Possible FH?
- High HDL and low triglycerides but VERY high LDL and overall cholesterol?
I'm kind of freaking out because I have health anxiety and my cholesterol levels have been really high ever since I got my first test at 18, but no one ever told me what I should do to lower it and obviously at that age I didn't really care. Even though I was vegetarian, my diet was bad for years: chocolate, struggled with binge-eating disorder, lots of cheese.
However in the past year or so I've tried to stick to an ultra-processed free diet consisting of only whole foods. In the last 6 months I've also given up alcohol. I've joined a gym and try to go to a few zumba/pilates classes each week and I cycle daily. Admittedly, I barely get any sleep due to what I suspect is ADHD and just general procrastination. I'm also a pretty stressed out person.
My latest results have terrified me, and am now on a waiting list to get tested for FH.
My latest results were:
Overall cholestoral: 7.3 mmol (282 mg/dL)
Triglycerides: 0.6 mmol (23 dL)
HDL: 2 mmol (77 mg/dL)
LDL: 5 mmol (193 mg/dL)
Cholesterol/HDL Ratio: 3.7
The week before my test, I was eating a lot more crap food than normal as I spent the week at my Dad's (heavy carbs, chocolate etc), but usually this is my standard diet:
(Sometimes I skip breakfast and fast)
Breakfast: Steel cut oats with half milk half water topped with fruit, honey, pumpkin seeds, cacao nibs, almonds, chia seeds and flax seeds
Lunch: 1 egg and avocado on toast with grass-fed butter
Snack: Clementines, nuts and raisins
Dinner: Usually some kind of curry/soup or quinoa, courgette, tinned sardines
Dessert: Full fat greek yoghurt with apple and cinnamon or a couple squares of 80% dark chocolate
Could the week of rubbish eating have impacted LDL that severely if my usual diet is fine? Feeling so worried right now.
