Long time lurker, first time poster.
I’ve been reading a lot here and found it very encouraging and wanted to share my story. I’m 37F and successful in my career. I spent a lot of time on my post secondary education, flunked out once at 18 and started again at 20. Did well in elementary and high school, A & B honor roll. I didn’t have a lot of classes I had to “try” really hard at, except math. I went on to get an associates in liberal arts, a practical nursing degree (sat for boards & passed first attempt) registered nursing associates (also sat for boards & passed first attempt) and then a bachelors in nursing. I’ve also worked my way into a supervisor position in my organization over the last 10 years.
My second child within 18 months of my first, and then taking a promotion within 9 months of his birth sent me into a tailspin which finally made me start seeking out evaluation (after about 2 years of treading water).
I initially was treated for anxiety with buspar starting a few months ago. It helped but wasn’t really the ticket. So, I had the TOVA test a few weeks ago. Last Monday, I received my results. Moderate to severe ADHD. With the psychiatrist, I was able to connect a lot of dots about myself, my learning style, etc. It’s been very overwhelming to process.
I just picked up my first two weeks of Adderal XR and I’m going to start tomorrow! I’m looking forward to figuring this out and navigating my personal and professional life going forward.

I noticed that some of the questions from some of the listening questions I have studied for the TCF were also on the real exam. There are between 30-40 mockup tests provided by that website and I am trying to go through them all. But wondering if any of you have also noticed the similarities or have studied a bunch of them and then came across to the same questions.

I failed the TCF the first time, but I had barely studied the listening or reading parts prior to that. So I am doing that now, in hopes I will be more prepared.

My dog Mochi, a German Spitz (Mittelspitz), has been suffering from severe itching since March. He licks his paws and scratches his head/eye area frequently. He lost a lot of hair around his eyes.
I hope that someone on here maybe experienced something similar with their dog who can point me to the right direction in where to go from here or give some advice. We’ve already visited the vet a few times because of this and have an appointment for next week as well.
Here are a few photos to show the progression of his hair loss.
As you can see he was completely fine at the start of the year. ☹ It started around the end of March.
He is nearly 2 years old and weights around 10 kg. He has been neutered last year. We’re located in Austria.
Sorry for the long post ahead, but I would like to include as much information as possible.
Information about his food & current medication:

• We have completely switched to Vet Concept Sana Horse (dry and wet food) to rule out a food intolerance
• He gets some salmon hemp oil from Vet Concept every day since the itching started
• He got Bravecto at the start of April for ticks but also as a prevention for mites
• Mochi currently gets prednisolone tablets (5 mg) in decreasing doses. We have an appointment for next week to give him Cytopoint instead. As I understand from my vet, Cytopoint has less side effects and contains no cortisone. We plan to conduct an allergy test (pre-screening) after 4-6 weeks following the Cytopoint injection

The current possible diagnoses are:

• environmental allergy (maybe dust mites?)
• autoimmune disease
• travel diseases (Leishmaniasis?) Info: Mochi has never left the country we reside in (Austria)
• something else entirely

We have also considered:

• Hair loss caused by mites: We had a skin scraping done that came back negative (for mites and fungi)
• a zinc deficiency but if my math isn’t completely off he should be currently getting around 16 mg zinc each day from his food which would cover his need for zinc

Here’s also a short summary of the last two months in case some of these things are important:

• Mochi had bloody diarrhea in early March. We visited the vet for this and got some medicine, and Mochi an injection; he recovered well. Before this point (the diarrhea incident lol) everything was completely okay. He was not itching and his eyes looked normal. I list this point in case the weakened immune system has something to do with the hair loss/itching that followed
• He started licking his paws in mid/late March. At the end of March he started losing hair around his right eye at first, a bit later around his left eye as well
• At the beginning of April we suspected he had mites but the test (mites + fungi) turned out negative. We also changed his food to Vet Concept at this point
• All blood test results so far were perfect (nothing abnormal)

Aside from the itching and loss of hair around his eyes, he is otherwise completely healthy. He still loves to play, has a lot of energy, eats his usual amount and poops like a king.
We are also considering going to a specialist / dermatologist. We actually got a letter of referral from our vet to a dermatologist, but the reviews we saw online were pretty mixed (leaning towards pretty bad) and we will probably try to find another one on our own. Still considering our options here.
I’m feeling pretty lost with all of this since it sounds like it could be basically anything. After each vet visit it went from “it’s probably this” to “actually, it might be this AND this” to “well, we could do this test and this test and…”
The current plan would be to see how the Cytopoint works and do the allergy test and then go from there (and probably look for a good dermatologist). I’m not sure if we should also do a test for Leishmaniasis since most of the other symptoms don’t apply to Mochi.
I also sadly don’t have a pet insurance and now I’m not sure if it’s already too late since Mochi already gets medicine for allergies so I’m not sure if he would automatically get excluded from any future tests even if he doesn't have an official diagnosis yet.
If anyone read all of this – thank you so much! I would be thankful for any advice.

Hello there. Just thought to share a recent (potential) development in my system.

So I, like many, got into ttrpgs via D&D 5e and played only D20 systems (in a Lancer campaign and planning to join a PF2E campaign). I've dabbled in CoC (D100) and looked into other systems with other dice systems like Cyberpunk: Red (D10), Tales from Myriad (2D6), Fragged Empire (3D6), and Daggerheart (2D12). Now I love the D20: it's iconic, it's common, it's known. However, I started looking at some numbers to test out my probabilities and realized something: I don't really like the big outcome ranges. While the luck aspect is an important part of balance, I prefer stats to have a bit more value to them. I'm fully aware of how impactful a +/-1 is in D20 games, but still having such a wider range of outcomes feels weird to me. Not this could be bias as I still have PTSD from failing 4 wisdom saves in a row as a lvl10 5e monk with a +7 or 8 to the save and being completely left out of combat (granted, it was a player casting it on me because I had only told the DM about my plans to have the character potentially detach from the party and didn't know that they had previously been betrayed by an NPC that had been an ally for about 3 levels).

This brings me to my current solution: switching to a D10. This would mean either halving all base target numbers or shifting character stat ranges from +/-5 to 0 - 10, which is time-consuming but not hard, and tweaking the abundance of situational bonuses/penalties. I like the more compact range of outcomes and leans more into the idea of a character's skill being a strong determining factor in how well they do in something. This could just be a placebo effect and it may turn out to not change probabilities as much as I think, but this D10 math just feels right in my brain. I also considered a dice pool, but that's being reserved for testing in a side project I'll be working on later.

While I have fixed my reason, I'm curious about what dice y'all use for your systems? Do you like bigger or smaller ranges? Luck-based or stat-based leaning? Bigger or smaller modifier numbers?

Long story long: We have had a guy do some plumbing work in both our commercial and residential spaces, and HVAC work in our commercial space - originally from a referral by a friend. The guy has a business name appropriately HVAC/Mechanical, an LLC, and has done good work at reasonable prices, and communicated well historically. We had a heat wave in maybe February and the AC in the commercial space didn't cool. He was scheduled for a Spring maintenance anyway, so he checked it out. There was a considerable repair needed, and the incumbent system was approximately 20 years old. The repair was going to be close to $2k including labor, so we began to discuss replacement as an alternative. He gave me a price in the $9k range for 2.5ton heatpump. This is a 3-story building, so a chunk of that was a crane fee. I spoke with another property owner in the building and we negotiated to coordinate the same HVAC guy installing two new units and splitting the $2k crane fee. I specifically asked the HVAC guy if he could handle a job this big, and he assured me that he had done hundreds of these. He requested payment in full and said he could usually do the installation 2-3 days after payment. We both paid him 3/21, and he scheduled the installation the following week. You can tell where this is going - he's still not done - we're into the 80's weather-wise, and have had to refund rental fees to our tenant because no AC and this is a foid-prep space that needs temperature control. His communications have become poor to unresponsive. I know now, that I never should have paid him in-full in advance. I trusted him. Along the way he has had excuse after excuse: crane availability issues, injuries resulting in not being cleared to work, etc. Now - the equipment is all installed and working in the other guy's place but not ours. He says our unit has a bad defrost zone board. On a brand new Goodman unit. Sure.... Unfortunately, I have finally lost all confidence in his words. I now feel as though he has been lying to me all along, and I don't trust him anymore.
I have called another local HVAC company that does our residence and asked them to provide an assessment after this repair is completed and the system is working. They looked up the unit by serial number, and confirmed that they can provide warranty repair, but they say that the unit has a 5- year warranty and the original guy said 10-years. They also said there's no permit pulled on the job, and that it is required in this jurisdiction.
So - where do I go from here? Am I liable for a code violation as the property owner? What do the esteemed members of the HVAC community recommend I do?
I'm totally willing to lose his 1-year labor warranty, but is the equipment under a 5-year or a 10-year warranty?

I have advice for new plasma donors who may be considering to try it out and earn extra money:

• Plasma is 92% water and the rest is mostly protein elements.
• The plasma is separated from your blood and your red blood cells are returned to you in cycles.
• Per FDA regulations, you're only allowed to donate plasma twice in a 7 day period, with a 48 hour wait inbetween those two times. Don't risk your health by hopping around to different plasma donation centers to circumvent these regulations, and you may get caught if you do.

1. Eat a meal high in protein 2-3 hours before donating, but your plasma protein levels depend on what you ate the day before.
2. Drink plenty of water and/or non-caffeinated juice before donating to stay hydrated.
3. Avoid caffeine such as in coffee or soda before donating or you may get nauseous and vomit or faint during your donation.
4. No alcohol 24 hours before, and for a little while after donating.
5. No exercising for at least 6 hours after donating as it can put too much stress on the vein.
6. Some people get away with smoking or vaping nicotine before and after donating, but it's recommended not to for 2 hours before and after. The nicotine can raise your heart's pulse rate.

If your pulse rate is an issue, listen to "Pink Noise" or "Green Noise" at a low volume before donating which may help reduce your pulse rate, along with its effect on lowering your blood pressure.
8. There is a risk of getting a blown vein if the worker is having a hard time finding your vein when they're sticking you with the needle or if you have small veins. You may get deferred until your vein heals if that happens. But it's ok, your body is able to regenerate your veins with a process called Angiogenesis.
9. There is a risk of blood clots, but when your blood is constantly moving through the machine it prevents that from happening.
10. You may be subject to drug screening. The drug screening tests for methamphetamines, cocaine, and heroin. Certain pharma prescription meds may show up as a false positive so you'll want to let the plasma center know what meds you're taking. Testing positive for these drugs can result in a permanent deferral from donating plasma.
11. A sample of your blood will be drawn periodically to test for certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs). A positive test will result in either a temporary or permanent deferral from donating plasma. If you've ever been diagnosed or received treatment for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B (HBV) or Hepatitis C (HCV) you will be permanently deferred from donating plasma.'

Donating Plasma with Managed Diabetes
Individuals with well-controlled diabetes can contribute to plasma donation, but certain criteria need to be met:
Absence of Complications: This means no existing diabetic complications affecting your kidneys, heart, blood vessels, or eyes.
Insulin Independence: If you rely on insulin for diabetes management, a three-month waiting period is required after using needles for non-prescribed medications. Additionally, you must be free of symptoms or treatment needs related to blood sugar fluctuations (high or low) for the past three months.

1. Healthy Feet: Active foot ulcers requiring medical attention will disqualify you from donation.
2. Steady Balance: You shouldn't experience dizziness or lightheadedness upon standing.
3. Type 1 Consideration: For Type 1 diabetics, eating within two hours of donation is mandatory.

• Wait a few hours before taking the bandage wrap off of your arm after donating.
• It's recommended to use Vitamin E oil/Mineral oil on the needle site for the puncture area to heal better. A Q-tip can be used to apply it easier. I simply dip the Q-Tip in the bottle, but never dip the used cotton back into the bottle.
• Frequently donating over a prolonged period of time may lead to your body having decreased vitamin D levels.
  
• Red meats are particularly high in the protein vitamins and minerals found in plasma.
  
• Personally, I take a Now brand Vitamin D supplement that contains vitamin D3, Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc. But I only take a half a dose, 1 gel capsule instead of 2, since I get these from eating meats and other foods as well. It's bad for your health if you take too much of these vitamins and minerals over time. I also take an Iron supplement. I also drink a protein shake before donating. Just to be safe.

Hey guys!
2018 Stinger GT… posting here because I got crickets on the forum and I’m really hurting.
Had some issues about a month back, timing codes and running badly. Still drivable but not great.
Codes and symptoms led me to test oil control valve for exhaust cam on the left side. Spec is 10.4 ohms at the high end. Mine tested at 13+. So bad solenoid.
Bought the parts already from Kia, got pretty far into it but I’m hitting road blocks.
Basically the valve cover needs to come off. The high pressure fuel line needs to come off in the process. There’s a really stiff wiring harness at the back of the motor covering up a bolt to get that line out.
Any suggestions how to deal with that harness?
I want to call the dealer I bought the parts from and ask them for mercy, to do the work… since I bought the parts directly from their parts dept, have all the receipts and everything is still sealed… but I’m afraid they’ll tell me I have to pay again for the parts.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am currently doing my year 10 mocks. I noticed that a lot of people are bringing in iPads or laptops to school which they use during revision sessions in between tests. I don't own a laptop or tablet/iPad however I have saved around 800 pounds which I could use to buy one.
Do you think it's worth purchasing a laptop or tablet for GCSE exams? Will I actually get time to use it in year 11 and will it be helpful? Do you think laptops or tablets are better if they would be helpful?

On Friday May 10, 2024, I had to put my dog to sleep. My wife and I rescued him 11 years ago from a kill shelter (he was days away from being put down). We predict he was 3-5 years old at the time. We nursed him back to health and gave him a beautiful life.
He was severely anemic after a blood test on Thursday and the vet recommended this option vs costly transfusions, MRIs, tests, etc. At first I thought it was because of something he ate but he never got better and apparently had internal bleeding too.
He slept in bed with us his last night. I fed him steak and eggs in the morning, we went on a nice family walk with our daughter pulling him in a wagon, then I held him in my arms until we left for the vet and his tongue was sticking out a little and already pale. I feel like he was ready.
We were with him the entire time and I was looking in his eyes and petting him telling him I loved him (behind lots of tears) as he passed. I’m a grown ass 37 year old man but I can’t stop crying.
Everything I see in the house reminds me of him. We had such a special bond. I feel like I lost a piece of my soul. I miss him so much and our other dog is going to turn 15 soon and I dread when it’s his time, maybe in the next few months I hope I get to see him again when I die.

For the past year and a half I've been working at a large Telecommunications company in england that offer a Degree Apprenticeship scheme. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a 4 year course where the company pay for your degree, and you spend 4 days a week in the office and 1 day in university lectures. I'm incredibly lucky to have got this job in the first place.
Since the start of my job I've been placed in a team full of apprentices which is a team within a much larger team of frontend and backend developers, all working on the same projects. The most senior people in my team are 1 and 2 years out of their own apprenticeships, with one of these being my line manager.
My first year of employment focused heavily on learning react, through building and maintaining various internal dashboards, portals and tools. This was all organised by a Senior Developer who had been at the company for almost 10 years, so he had a good idea on what to do. The past 6 months since he has left however have been incredibly dry. There is almost 0 work (Including testing & documentation etc.) in the wider team that ends up propagating down into my sub-team - This is a problem that is affecting the more senior members of my sub-team too.
Over the past few months instead of just moaning that there is nothing todo I've tried my best to make the most of the situation. I've realised I'm more interested in backend development so have spent my time learning Go and am now building a Reddit Clone a load of new react libraries I've wanted to learn and building the backend in go whilst learning design patterns and system design. I've also been lucky enough to find a senior-backend developer contact in the wider-team to be a sort of mentor. We've had a few meetings and he's written up lots of knowledge and wisdom for me.
Though, he also doesn't have loads of free time, which means I don't have any opportunity for any of the MR's for my Reddit Clone to be reviewed. Meaning although I am learning, I feel like nobody is evaluating anything, or my progress.
I've also been considering pursuing an AWS certification to gain some cloud knowledge to complement backend development. Would this be worth looking into?
In the longterm, despite me being guaranteed a position here after my apprenticeship completes I can't see myself sticking around here long. I recognise the position I am in, to have what will be 4 YoE at 22, is one that I should take advantage of here. In the interest of my career, does anybody have any advice? Am I best to try and 'leave' my current team and find work from others, or just stick it out and learn as much as I can with the unlimited free time I have at work?
And just for added context, the university side of things I have no issues with - I'm getting consistent 70-95% scores in my assignments and exams.

I recently started my journey to figure out the best way to manage my ADHD. After a lot of trial and error with Wellbutrin and Strattera my doc has me trying Dextroamphetamine 5mg twice a day. this is a new doc and I think she is trying to start me slow and is also worried about some falling asleep issues I have which is why I think she is starting me at such a low dose. I did a full week of this dosage and had literally zero change. I have started to double (two 5mg pills) it in the morning and afternoon and have felt a little bit of a difference. I plan to talk to my doctor ASAP about this as obviously, I need to up my dose. I'm worried that she would be annoyed that I changed my dose on my own and won't take my request seriously (I have changed docs three times because none of them can seem to grasp that just because I got good grades in college doesn't mean I don't have ADHD for which I have tested multiple times for and obviously do have). Im thinking I want to change my meds to a 15mg extended release with a possible 5 or 10 mg quick release incase I need some extra at the end of the day. Do yall think she might make me go slower when upping my dose? should I mention the doubling I've been doing or just say I think I need a bigger dose? TYIA

I am currently doing my year 10 mocks. I noticed that a lot of people are bringing in iPads or laptops to school which they use during revision sessions in between tests. I don't own a laptop or tablet/iPad however I have saved around 800 pounds which I could use to buy one.
Do you think it's worth purchasing a laptop or tablet for GCSE exams? Will I actually get time to use it in year 11 and will it be helpful? Do you think laptops or tablets are better if they would be helpful?

I need somebody to do my final coding project for me in Java and I am willing to pay 50 for the whole thing. I already have an idea on what the superclass and subclasses will look and we can discuss further on that once job is accepted.
Below is the requirements for the project.
For the final project you will need to create your own collection of classes that include the following elements:
Classes (15 Points) A superclass that is abstract (2.5 Points) Two subclasses that inherit from the abstract superclass (5 Points) A forth class that has a composition relationship with the two subclasses (2.5 Points) Ample Comments within the classes that include a javadoc comment to start and markers for your instance variables, constructors, and methods. (5 Points) Attributes (15 Points) Each classes has at least 4 instance variables. A subclass needs to have 4 additional instance variables from it's superclass (7 Points) You must use at least an integer type, floating type, boolean type, String type, and an Array somewhere within these classes (ie you can't use all numerical or Strings for everything) (4 Points) At least one class has a static instance variable (2 points) At least one class has a final instance variable (2 points) Constructors (10 Points) A full parameter and no parameter constructor for each class (the abstract class doesn't need a no parameter constructor) (5 Points) Include checks to make sure the numerical variables are in the correct range and the String attribute is the correct format. If the arguments passed to the constructor are not in the correct range/format, you should throw an exception to let the user know. (5 Points) Methods (20 Points) Getters and setters to encapsulate the instance variables (5 Points) They must include conditions on numerical variables and must throw an exception if the value is not within the correct range. You will throw an exception if the arguments are not in the correct range. They must include check on the format of a String variable and throw an exception if not in the correct format (REGEX). You will throw an exception if the String is not in the correct format. Each class must have at least two custom methods (5 Points) One of these two methods needs to contain a mathematical calculation One of the custom methods in your superclass must be final (2 Points) The other custom method in your superclass must be overridden in the subclasses. This method should be abstract. (3 Points) A toString() method to give a string representation of each class (5 Points) Test Class (25 Points) You will need to take user input to instantiate the classes (3 Points) You will also create the no parameter versions of the classes (2 Points) You will need to test out ALL methods to show that they work. This includes all getters, setters, toString(), and custom methods. (5 Points) You will need to show that your conditions work for each constructor and method as well. Comment out the lines that would make the conditions fail. Example, if a value needs to be between 0 and 10, show the less than 0 and greater than 10 cases that would make it fail. (5 points) You will need to demonstrate the polymorphic behavior of your subclasses (5 Points) Comments that explain the code (5 Points)
Final Notes: Having an application that compiles. If it doesn't compile you will lose 20 points Your program should run and not get errors when entering in normal commands or demonstrating the methods. If the program does not run you will lose 20 points.
