I am a beginner software engineer but have the full capability to take this task on as I have done similarly before. The client was thinking around $500 but I am thinking $1000. I'm 23 and recently graduated college. Now undertaking Master's (full research, no classes), but things have been slow. A lot of my research is dependent on data from our industrial clients, and there's a lot of delay due to management and bureaucracy. So, I've got a shit ton of free time now. When some update comes in from my clients, the quantity is so small that I'd wrap everything up in about 3 days, and have to wait for another month before hearing more from them.
To a lot of people, this might sound great, but I'm an objective-driven person. I need to work towards something to feel fulfilled, and doing nothing at all has actually been eating away at my sanity. It's come to a point where all of the things I used to do to entertain myself has gotten stale (i.e., ran out of comic issues, watched all the shows I've been queuing, games got boring), and I find myself just staring at my walls in my room all day long (WFH research cause I'm doing simulation work). It's starting to contribute to my anxiety too since I feel like I'm wasting my time and potential doing nothing, but I can't find anything to contribute towards (explained further below).
I felt like I needed to change my mindset from a "must work to feel fulfilled" perspective to a "enjoy the process, do whatever" kind of thinking, so for the past few months I've been on a journey of self-discovery. I tried going out hiking, cafe hopping (something I could not understand why people liked. Still don't understand it and it's draining my pockets), and attending events but all of these are things I could do once every 2 weeks with my Master's stipend, and for the rest of the 13 days, I'm just kind of in limbo (I live far away from the nearest city, so transport ain't cheap). I tried attending clubs and organizations in my campus, but there's a distinct language barrier with the locals here and even after attempting to learn the language for 2 years, I'm still not at a level of fluency where I can interact with them well enough, and end up getting isolated from groups. I also got into meditation and yoga to calm my anxiety, but they'll only help for about 2 hours before the anxiety starts creeping back up. Some days, I begin to feel tired out of nowhere and just feel sleepy all the time. Not sure why this is the case, since I haven't really done anything to warrant being tired.
I've started applying for internships to fill my time now, but it's difficult as most companies don't want to invest in me (a foreign student) due to stringent visa requirements in the country. I couldn't really find any part-time jobs that could help build my career either, so I'm kinda lost on that front too.
Recently, I've also applied for professional training but that will probably only last 3 months at most, and it'll be back to limbo. I have another year and a half before graduating, and at the rate things are going now, I'll go insane with absolutely nothing to do.
So, for all of you achievement-oriented folks, what do you do to keep yourselves busy? And for the more laid-back readers here, how do you "enjoy" the process of life? Why do you take on certain hobbies, and what about them makes it fulfilling for you? I want to know everyone's perspective, and hopefully learn something from y'all.

Serious question (US based)
How do I become upper class?
CONTEXT: My family grew up middle class in an upper middle class neighborhood. I remember feeling ashamed because my friends would vacation to Europe every summer or other exotic destinations while I spent my summers working, and my only "vacation" was to go to the local public pool.
I've been out of college for a year now and have been able to take some short vacations within the US, which has been nice. However I still work in retail making a very low salary and my parents have given me a deadline to move out soon. I'm well aware that what I make is NOT a liveable salary, at least in the part of the country where I live.
I've been applying to jobs for almost two years and have gotten the occasional interview or phone screen but have not landed a single offer. I majored in a liberal arts degree but changed my mind on my ideal career path at a point where I was already stuck in my degree. I'd love to work in business but have already been rejected from all the firms in my area, not just the top ones (all without even getting an interview). I've been applying to jobs daily but I know I need a way to earn more money if I need to start supporting myself soon. I've even signed up for a side gig just to supplement my current job but am still waiting to get approved.
I've thought about becoming a gold digger (I am female) or starting an OnlyFans, although I can't quite overcome my conscience to do the latter, and I am too fat to be the former (I have PCOS and have struggled with my weight my whole life). I am currently learning to watch my diet and calories and working on losing weight, but I am currently well over my ideal weight and am only losing weight at a very slow rate which means it will be several years before I am down to a healthy weight.
Now for the good news.
For one, because I grew up surrounded by the upper middle class, I am familiar to some extent of the aesthetic of that class (although it is very different from my own personal style). I don't know some of the really boujee etiquette things like the different types of forks and what not (tbh being so concerned that someone's using a salad fork to eat steak or whatever is stupid. A fork is a fork.)
Because I went to an affordable public college, I graduated debt free, which is huge. I also graduated with a very good GPA and scored fairly highly on both undergraduate and graduate school standardized exams.
I also have a few different credit cards that I use responsibly and don't spend beyond my means (for the most part). I always pay my cards off in full every month and have a FICO credit score of about 770.
I try to diversify my portfolio, and of my savings I've accumulated so far, just under 10% is in a mutual fund, about 25% is in my 401k with company match, and the rest is in a high yield traditional savings account. With every paycheck, I contribute 10% to my 401k and an additional 10-25% into my savings account (I aim for 25% since I still live at home and have fewer expenses right now, but some months it's less).
It's hard because I've tried looking online for advice as far as how to become wealthy and I feel like I'm doing everything right - I went to college, I got good grades, I save a lot, I have no debt, I don't spend beyond my means, I've even tried going above and beyond to show my dedication in my job search by cold emailing recruiters at companies I'd be interested in (especially those who were alumni of my school), writing personalized cover letters, etc. and yet here I am stuck in my barely-above-minimum-wage soul-sucking retail job with a clock ticking over my head that I don't have much time to somehow find something that provides a liveable wage / move up in class so I can move out of my parents house. In addition, I don't really have the money to immerse myself into affluent circles by joining expensive country clubs, etc. (and even if I did, I feel like I would be judged and dismissed because I'm a fat woman), so that severely limits any opportunities to network or rub shoulders with the rich.
I know this is a very long post so thank you if you made it all the way to the end. I would really appreciate any sincere advice on how to move up in socioeconomic status, find a better paying job, etc. thank you ♥️

I'm a singer songwriter looking to incorporate visuals into my live show. I've filmed lots of aesthetic things over the years and would love to be able to like... put them on a rough "timeline" in a certain order, and changing between them would be triggered by like something simple like hitting the space bar. So that one could change the shot on the drop or chorus of a song or something. It would be so sick if I could do it myself with a footswitch (my hands will be occupied playing instruments) but yeah not sure if that exists. Not looking for any crazy techie/computery/programming stuff, I'm hopeless with computer stuff, and also broke from recording an album so need something totally free. Does this magic software I imagining exist?

2024.05.16 03:59 computer_salad Karen Read summary and analysis- first few weeks of trial.

I’ve been following this case pretty closely for almost a year now, but I haven’t had time to really watch the trial live (how are some of you watching every minute?!). I was looking for a post that was basically a run-down of the highlights and important revelations so far, but I haven’t really seen any, so I wrote one myself based on what I have been able to discern from the press coverage. Will you all tell me if I’m missing anything? I’m also gonna add some of my own analysis for discussion.
The “I hit him” testimony
A lot of people heard Karen say some version of “I hit him,” or “did I hit him?”, but the defense is doing a good job poking holes in their testimonies. It seems like a number of the people who claim she said “l hit him,” only recorded this several months later. Officer Saraf, for instance, only added the fact that KR said “I hit him” to his testimony several months later. Katie McLaughlin also agreed that her story had “evolved” since the original event. That particular witness was also interesting because she initially claimed to have no relationship with Caitlin Albert, which was later proven to be untrue; Katie McLaughlin was, as photos showed, quite close with Caitlin Albert at one point, which prompted the defense to acccuse McLaughin of perjuring herself. Firefighter Anthony Flematti also claimed Karen Read said “I hit him” but apparently never told anyone this, which was readily highlighted by the defense.
Of the people who testified that Karen Read said she hit O’Keefe, the only person who didn’t get absolutely obliterated by the defense seems to be Timothy Nuttall, although the defense made it clear that his memory of the day was pretty faulty as well.Lots of people heard her say different things: Stephen Mulanney testified that he heard her saying “Is he dead,” “that’s my boyfriend;” Jason Becker testified that he heard Read say “did i hit him?” And Matthew Kelly even said he explicitly did not hear Read say “I hit him” repeatedly.
Honestly, I’m not sure it matters whether or not Karen Read said “I hit him,” or “did I hit him?” It’s clear that she was worried about her own responsibility in the matter, which seems…. Not great but possibly innocuous? She was obviously insanely drunk the night before, and hangxiety/hangover guilt is famously a terrible combination with tragedy. I know I tend to assume the worst when I wake up after a night of heavy drinking. Even when I haven’t been drinking, I tend to blame myself when things go wrong. And I think it’s kind of telling that It doesn’t seem like any of these witnesses really thought that she had a clear, certain memory of hitting him. Except, that is, the officer in the McLaughlin testimony, who I guess summoned a sergeant when he heard her say this.
Anyway, most of this is stuff we already knew. We already knew she expressed that she felt guilty at the scene, and we already knew
The Sloppy Crime Scene & Responding Police Officers
Responding officers were super, uhh, carless when it came to the crime scene. They used solo cups to store the frozen blood found at the scene, which eventually led the blood to dry up. And they used a leaf blower to scan the scene for evidence, which somehow didn’t turn up any broken tail light. Basically, this testimony showed us that it was a super haphazard crime scene that could easily have been tampered with, and that there just wasn’t much care put into the storage and collection of evidence. This is important, because it sets the stage for the defense to say that forensic evidence from the scene cannot be trusted. Paul Gallagher admitted that “nothign about the scene was standard” and that he had never processed a crime scene in the snow before, which led them to improvise in a number of ways.
The other thing we got from these officer- witnesses was that Michael Lank, the canton police lieutenant who responded to the scene, had once been in a physical altercation in order to defend Chris Albert. For the defense, this is relevant because it shows not just the deep ties, but also the extent to which this group of people will go to cover up for their own. And the fact that this tight-knit circle are brutish and violent.
The Bartender
The testimony from the Waterfall bartender appeared to be marginally important. She confirmed that the Alberts were important, powerful people in the town, and that everyone knew who they were. She also said that nobody in the party appeared to be intoxicated.
Brian Albert getting rid of his phone
Brian Albert’s testimony basically just stuck to the party line. The phone thing, though, did remind me of how nuts it is that he got rid of his phone, and I’m assuming it’s not the last we’ll hear of it. I guess we already knew that he got rid of his phone right as it was supposed to be subpoenae’d, but it was still kind of crazy to hear him try to explain away that he got rid of it a single day before he received the order. He basically claimed that he was due for an upgrade so he traded it in. But he and Higgins both happened to destroy their phones right before they were subpoenae’d, which isn’t not suspicious.
Julie Nagel and the Black Blob
Julie Nagel, friend of 23y/o Brian Albert Jr, was inside the house that night. She testified that “I did notice ... something out of the ordinary, like a black blob in the ground by the flagpole,” as she was leaving. The defense didn’t like this, because it refutes the idea that JO was only placed on the lawn later. And they cast doubt on this testimony during the cross examination by pointing out that if she actually saw a body, she would have responded really differently. They also pointed out that she never really mentioned this until now.
The Ryan Nagel & co testimony
Ryan Nagel is Julie Nagel’s brother, who came to pick up his sister right around the time that Karen Read arrived, and left right as she was leaving. He never actually picked up his sister, because she ultimately wanted to stay.
Basically, he and the other people in his car said they saw Karen Read arrive at 34 fairview road. His sister came out to talk, at which point he was focused on his sister. He said he did not observe anyone enter the house, but the cross-examination made clear that this could have happened while he was talking to his sister. When he looked up, he saw the SUV brake lights come on, as if to start driving away. As he pulled up and drove past this car, he saw someone that fit Karen Read’s description in the driver’s seat, alone. He did not observe any damage to the vehicle.
This testimony is important, because this witness saw KR arriving and being alone in her car, which means JO would have left the vehicle at that point. It seems like it could be good for the defense, because he’s saying that she was alone in her car, and that he didn’t see JO outside, which could mean that he was inside. He also said her car didn’t have any visible damage. And it seems like he was a decently observant witness. But it also could just mean that JO’s exit from the vehicle was as unremarkable as his death, which would explain why nobody saw him.
Allison McCabe
Jen McCabe’s daughter, who claims she picked up Colin Albert that night. She testified that she arrived to pick him up at 12:10 or so, and she shows a screenshot of text messages to prove it. The Free Karen Read crowd thinks these are doctored, and I admit the screenshot looks really weird. There are some rumors floating around somewhere that there’s cell phone data that proves he was in the house much later than that, but I haven’t seen it. I also think the hyper focus on Colin Albert is weird, because it seems to me like a million different people could have ben responsible for JO’s death.
The Veterinarian Specialist
Testified that no dog DNA was found on swabs of John O’Keefe, but they did find pig DNA. Jackson’s cross exam reminded the jury that the collection of evidence was highly improper. The vet did concede that the pig DNA could have come from a dog treat.
Thoughts?
I’m hearing a lot of people characterizing this as a bloodbath, but honestly I don’t feel like anything so far has been, like, a crazy bombshell for either side. I would imagine there will be some during the defense’s turn to call up witnesses. Apparently that’s when trials tend to get juicy.
I also don’t really understand why the defense is so obsessed with the Colin Albert story. It seems like it could be easily disproven and then their whole theory falls apart. If I were in charge of Karen Read’s defense, I’d lean into the possibility that there are a million ways John O’Keefe could have died that don’t involve Karen Read. Maybe he slipped on the ice, hit his head, cut himself on his broken glass while he was trying to get up, and crawled quietly to the middle of the lawn where he was too incapacitated to call for help. Maybe he passed out in the gutter and someone else hit him— it seems like a ton of drunk people were coming and going, after all. And hit and runs are super common! Or, if we are to believe that John O’Keefe and Brian Higgins had a common romantic interest in Karen Read, couldn’t Brian Higgins have been equally likely— and have more motive— to bludgeon John O’Keefe? Honestly all those guys seem like the type to get angry and end up in a bar fight.

Generally im ok with the new items and new maps and changes, because imo it feels refreshing and makes the game more fun since we dont just play the same game for 7 years for example.
BUT,
As a Yasuo Yone Irelia lover, this patch really sucks and im gonna be completely honest here. Before the patch, when it first got leaked or anounced, i was sure that this wasnt the full list of items because there isnt a single AS+Crit+AD item anymore, and Yasuo/Yone has weak early games thats a known fact. People generally mix his 2 item power spike with early game but you are free to play as him, they are not "strong" early game.

Now, we as Yasuo/Yone mains literally have no ideal Rune, No ideal itemization and fuck ideal, we literally dont have itemization.
And thats only because of bad item design. There are only 6 crit items, which none gives AS except PD, and guess what? PD doesnt give any AD.
So lets say you wanna rush IE as they said (lol, delusional workers ig), You have no "AS" TILL you fuckn finish that 3400 or whatever price item which btw has one of the costliest builds with its components. And fun part is this is the shittiest build you can do because now you spend 4500 (including boots) and you dont have AS, you dont have a complete Crit, basically you are shit.
So if i want to be relevant in lane somehow, there is only PD that gives AS and Crit. And guess what? Now you cant even fuckn kill the minions while every bruiser and mage one shots the whole wave, you will fight for your life with the minions to kill the wave lmao. Why is that you may ask? Simple because PD is shit for a first item, no AD at all. Like literally 0 AD. Lets assume you played incredible (this patch this is the only way to get some kills in early lane), based after that and spend all your gold on PD and Boots, congrats! When you go back to your lane, enemy AP will be stronger than you. They have fuckn unlimited options that gives them AH, AP, Mana, and hundreds of side abilities.
So technically i have to diff my lane AT LEAST 3000 gold or smt to actually feel that im ahead like wtf?
Oh lets talk about the other option(s) lol.
You can go Blade of the Ruined King and thats a good item right? Congrats now you need to wait till 30 minutes to have %100 crit unless you are giga snowballed WHICH IS NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE WE DONT HAVE A FIRST ITEM FFS. We dont have a SECOND ITEM we dont have THIRD ITEM, we dont even have any other fuckn options which was already a problem with the old items and runes (Lethal tempo only option, items had at least a few options but it wasnt that wide as other champs like mages or bruisers for example).
Win rate for Yasuo Yone is below %50 and its not %48-49 or smt, some regions have %42, and except low elo, he doesnt even have smt like %48, Its just %42-44-45 or whatever. The champ is UNPLAYABLE, like literally you guys are free to try. Having a better match-up knowledge or having a better laning phase as a player doesnt even matter know because 0/4 Zoe will just come with her jungle and one shot you no matter what you do.

Im ok to champs being slightly strong or slightly weak but this is not about him being weak, this is something completely different. We cant build items, we cant chose a rune, We cant play our laning phase, like imagine an AA champ having hard times to clear the fuckn minion waves? Is this normal? Dont fuckn touch to Yasuo, he is fine. Just fix this stupid item problem, why do we have to pick specific and forced items? And before the patch as i said, it was already really limited but at least he was playable with that 2-3 paths of itemization.
Now we are forced to play the same way because any other way doesnt even makes sense and that ONLY WAY sucks hard, like really hard. Fix this as soon as you guys can but if i know my bois they will first buff Yasuo, then he will be fuckn too OP, then they will nerf or fix the items, and then because Yasuo became too OP, they will nerf the shit out of him like they did to other champs in the past and he will be unplayable again xd

Hi all, I recently picked up an old weatherproof TV but it's a fairly crappy design. It uses a 16:10 LCD so 16:9 content is vertically stretched. I also can't disable overscan on HDMI, leading me to use an HDMI to VGA converter to get an uncropped image.
Is there an android tv box with more than three TV based resolution options available? Maybe running a custom build on a raspberry pi? Given android itself has to run on an ungodly array of weird resolutions, I feel like there's got to be a way to force custom resolutions on existing units.
I'm a hardware guru, not a software person. Linux command line scares me, but I've got no problem soldering 0.5mm pin pitch ICs by hand.
I probably won't do much more than cast youtube or youtube music to it.

I've been working remotely for more than +15 years, and in all that time, I worked for +4 years in a Fintech company that was very jealous of their intellectual property. They hosted everything themselves, such as GitLab instead of GitHub. Everything, aside from online chat, was self-hosted. That particular experience sparked this idea. I want to create software that is a notion alternative to self-host knowledge. The idea behind this SaaS/Product is to create a viable alternative to Notion and sell the software (either once or with a monthly fee to keep receiving updates or support). I think a market of companies would choose not to give all their knowledge to a foreign entity unless that is end-to-end encrypted. Do you guys believe there is a market or a real need for something like this? The implementation can be from scratch (to be distributed with Kamal) or a WordPress premium plugin. After finishing the Notion-alternative, The tool can be extended to compete against BaseCamp.

2024.05.16 03:50 BellaBubs2345 Seeking Advice: 8Yr Old HVAC System Leaking - Balancing Repair/Replacement Options and Costs with Health Concerns Re: Refrigerant

Hi all -
Looking to get some thoughts on options for our system, where we have a leak and are trying to weigh potential next steps to learn more about and solve the issue, against the 'get this handled ASAP so you are not inhaling refrigerant!' argument that Google spits out. Background info below, looking for 'how I would handle this as a tech' and/or 'here's why I am/am not concerned about the health impact' responses. Oh, and sorry in advance for both the long post and 'dumb' terminology I'll be using - just getting up to and past the 'explain it to me like I'm 5' stage :) I'll throw a TLDR at the end. Oh, and feel free to poke fun or call out our lack of knowledge and any poor decisions. I won't take offense to any sort of 'you're not thinking about this correctly' responses. Thanks!
We live in a condo with a loft and have an air handler upstairs that also uses hot water for heating. Apparently these are pretty much all made by First Co. System is 2 ton and was installed for the prior owner around 8 years ago. To my understanding we are out of warranty (combination of time and new owner). Per a picture of the condenser the unit uses R410A and would have been factory charged to 3.87 LBS. The condenser sits nearly directly on 'top' of our unit - so no measurement of pipe lengths offhand, but shouldn't be a long run.
We've been juuuust a bit remiss on annual maintenance, and are ('were' - going to do better in the future) a bit slow to change the filter...but we've never noticed any issue with the system cooling our unit. About a month ago we heard an odd sound coming out of the in-unit component and found ice on the coil. Turned it off and haven't run it since, except for during tech visits. First tech comes out on a 60-ish degree day, tells us he thinks the system is low but suggests remeasuring later. On return (much warmer day; 80ish), numbers are still low, tech estimates we're down maybe 1.5-2 LBS, recommends replacing the entire system (and therefore strongly suggests we don't bother with a leak test). Also advises that our capacitor is low, but, again, don't spend on it, just replace everything. Since we don't have past test readouts (i.e. prior year maintenance), it seems we can't be sure if this has been a slow leak going on for years or something more rapid based on a recent failure...?
Brought out a tech from a second company (it was a cooler day and had rained/was still drizzling), he ran an electronic leak test at the evaporator coil (we haven't done any sort of dye testing at this time) and noted that there were measurable values at the coil (but didn't tell us what the #s were), but the system seemed 'dry' - no noticeable oil spills, etc. He looked at the condenser too; kind of got a 'it looks fine, but can't say for sure given the rain we just had' - I presume that meant he couldn't be sure if there was oil at the rooftop portion?
(Side Question Here: since we aren't sure if we have a 'slow' or 'rapid' leak, would the lack of oil in the handler (and potentially the condenser) support a hope/conclusion that the leak may be more of a pinhole?)
Tech's recommendation: Charge the system using refrigerant containing an additive that could technically (but zero promise) fill a pinhole leak, then use the system normally to see if there are any performance issues. Test again 1-2 years from now to see how we're doing. If we do this once or twice we could potentially get enough service life to the point where replacing the entire system is more reasonable based on typical lifespan. We like that idea from a cost perspective, though might want an earlier test since, uh, refrigerant leak bad? We also realize there's a time-frame in which it could be 'too soon' to test, given differences in air temp, etc. that could impact the #s.
OPTIONS:
1: Replace the whole system. Cost would be somewhere in the $12K range, and I guess technically we would want to first confirm that the issue isn't in the pipes between the handler and condenser...Would a dye test verify that? Building is about 20yrs old, FWIW.
2: Replace the evaporator coil. Cost would be in the $4K range. I presume (?) that this is 95%+ going to solve the leak issue, though it would obviously suck if the leak was elsewhere. What test(s), if any, should we do before going this route?
3: Charge the system and 'wait and see'. Probably in the $500 range, plus more if we replace the capacitor. Obviously we'd be continuing to use a system with a leak, so this only ends up making sense if the leak was so small that we could get multiple years (re-charge as needed) out of the current system. And hey, maybe the additive solves it?
4: Not discussed, but potential to charge the system (with or without the additive) and add some sort of dye that would enable a more complete/thorough leak test afterwards? I hear that's a thing, if I understand correctly...?
QUESTIONS:
*As mentioned earlier, would lack of oil in the handler (and possibly condenser too) be a solid indicator of a much more 'minor' leak in the system?
*If we did option #3 (or #4), how long should we wait to re-test? We'd want to wait long enough that any loss would be measurable, but are trying to balance that against any health concerns.
*Which brings me to the most important question: uh, how big are these health concerns? I presume we're helped by using R410A rather than R22? And if we're down, say, 2 pounds of refrigerant and the system wasn't charged to even 4 pounds is that even a lot? Is there a good source of information on this that splits the difference between 'I've seen much worse leaks' and 'you're going to die!!!!'? Etc.
*Anything else we should factor into our considerations?
TLDR:
8yr old R410A system is leaking. Not sure how 'big' the leak is. Concerned over health risks associated with refrigerant leaks, but also want to be 'logical' in how to approach this. What tests/'minor' repairs should we consider, or should we bite the bullet for a larger cost that we "know" won't leak?

Scenario: The USMC only ever adopted the M16. 
Instead of adopting the m4a1 and m27 IAR they continued to modify, modernize and repurpose their beloved creation, the M16A2. The main goal, of course, was to instill a sense of pride and heritage in the testing, development and use of their own USMC rifle.
A few caveats for this mental exercise; we’re assuming these rifles were developed after the M16A2 to present. We’ll be comparing them to the known rifles the Marines implemented during this timeframe while assessing the likelihood of each new feature added to the base battle rifle. I appreciate all additions to the conversation, please forgive my spelling and grammar.
1983, The M16A2 was adopted buy the USMC.
1994, The M16A3:
The 3 round burst was removed and replaced with full auto. Went back to A1 length stock for shorter LOP with body armor but kept the trap door for storage. Ambi controls. Reduced barrel length to 18” and changed barrel profile to a continuous taper with a heavier chamber aera for balance and heat tolerance. Obviously these M16A3s would be upgraded with KAC two piece quad rails, laser aiming devices and optics attached to the carry handle similarly to what was seen. The early days of GWOT would eventually introduce flat top M16A4 uppers still issued with the uncompromising A2 carry handle attached to the bottom of the KAC rail. But this M16A4 isn’t the one you know. It still boast the continuous taper barrel, ambi controls and shorter overall length of the reimagined m16A3.
2011, M16A5:
The marine corps shifted dramatically with the age of optics, free float quad rails and new SOPs that integrated heavier firing schedules. This created the need for heavy profile machine gun barrels and flip down sights. The Marine corps began its path to create a multi purpose squad rifle to replace their machine guns with an over built heavy duty version of their beloved M16 (M27IAR) This ultimately led to squad designated marksmen versions of the standard infantry rifle as seen in real life (usmc SAMR, usmc M38) because many of the features added created a more accurate rifle. As any service rifle there would come variations combining a lot of the features making very rare and obscure individual “clone” builds. Some A3s fitted with a free float rail or some A5s with the lighter A3 profile barrels.
2018, M16 block iii (PDW):
With the infantry moving towards the heavy expensive M16A5, The CORPS started experimenting with the lightest shortest version of the M16 yet. A m16 personnel defense weapon for rear echelons, administrative, mechanized units and training schools. Without the need for heavy sustained fire, the continuous taper barrel was reduced in weight and moved to a shorter 16” mid length gas. Following suite with SOCOM, the MK16 rail was utilized. lights/ laser and other rail mounted devices weren’t priority for these roles, but still able to be used. Another savings in cost, weight and ease of manufacturing was the monolithic polymer lowers. The lower kept A1 length fixed butt stocks, and Ambi controls. Lastly, As a homage to the m16A2 and a cost cutting measure by not using optics unless in a combat infantry squad, the rear fixed A2 sights became synonymous with the United States marine corps. During boot camp and MCT training, all marines were trained in the A2 irons in the new shorter PDW m16A2 block iiis from 2018 to present day. Recon units and some special infantry units would have an inventory of these PDWs for special purpose teams (light mechanized reconnaissance, CQB, VBSS) fitted with all sorts of optics, and mission dependent multipliers.

I moved to Texas in August of last with who I thought was a good friend of mine that I met in Colorado 3 years ago. At the time of moving, we got laid off of our jobs in Colorado so we thought that would be the best time to do so than ever. We did. We both were able to get retail store management jobs here, a house to rent, no problem. However, she owns a condo in Colorado and thought it would be a good idea to rent the rooms to her previous work colleagues to cover her mortgage while she's renting here in Texas.
About a month into moving here, we both found a significant other for ourselves and generally stay at their houses more than our own. Big deal.. whatever. We're adults. Fast forward to March, she starts telling me she has to move to part time at her job only working 2 days a week. Me being the supportive friend, I tell her to look for another job ASAP. So, she does.. at Colonial Life.. a 100% commission based job that doesn't even pay you for training or the work you do at their office prior to being licensed to sell life insurance. That leads to her saying "I can't handle 2 jobs so I have to quit." She quits the job that was paying her even though it was only 2 days a week.
April 1st comes along, she tells me she's officially gone into debt. The work colleagues who were supposedly her friends decided to quit their jobs.. become couch potato's and not pay her rent. Here's the kicker. She has no actual lease in place to enforce anything therefore they can just live there rent free. She obviously has to pay the mortgage there for what they didn't pay PLUS the rent here, so she somehow managed to do so.
April 25th comes and she tells me she can't afford to live here and needs to go back to Colorado; continuously asking me to find someone to replace her on our lease. Say less! May 1st arrives.. she tells me she is going to be late for rent by 8 days. I told her to take it up with our landlord... so she does, by lying and saying WE both got laid off and had to find new jobs. BRUH..... I am on workers comp, not laid off. I still manage to pay my rent with how low my workers comp benefits are and juggling personal bills. Then when he tells her there's a $100 late fee, she supposedly gets a loan and pays the rent.
May is here and now I'm putting all gas no brakes on finding someone to replace her because I have a lot of stress in my life due to the work indigent I encountered.. I don't need anymore stress. She wasn't able to pay $25 of the WiFi bill so she told me to cancel it but instead I paid it and changed the password. When she found out, she flipped shit and told me how fucked up it was because she can't work online now... for Colonial Life who doesn't pay her for the work she's doing. Lol
A few days ago, I asked her if she's going to have money for her half of electric or rent. She told me no, her account is negative but is hoping she "closes a $20K deal at work" in a week. Nope.. I'm not being strung along until the last day of the month for you tell me you can't pay your half of rent. She then proceeds to ask if I found someone to replace her and I told her I'm working on it. I then asked her if I do find someone, is she able to sign herself off of it if our landlord agrees.. she says "Yes, I told you that already." SAY LESS!
Today, I finally got confirmation of someone to replace her so I called my landlord, explained everything without the extra drama and he said he can make it work but wants to meet in person so we can all agree on it to make sure it's not just me telling her to leave. When I told her this, she FLIPS OUT because I didn't consult her about it before I brought it up to the landlord, tells me I'm kicking her out, that I'm fucked up because now she has to throw her stuff away, take her cat to the shelter and live in her car. I told her to stop worrying about finding money to pay rent and take the money and go back to Colorado... but Colonial Life has her so fucking brainwashed that her reply was "No because I'm about to make thousands."
Now she's giving me a hard time about signing herself off the lease even though she asked 4 times to help her by finding someone to replace her and when I do, it's my fault. Our lease is up October 31st.. my landlord was barely okay with agreeing to replace her because there's about 5 months left but would rather do so than us not paying full months rent.
Fuck off. Worry about sorting out your crippling debt and vape addiction rather than trying to make me suffer financially because you are.
