I 33(F) suddenly lost my hearing on 5/4/2024. I was getting ready for bed and my right ear felt full, similar to how it would feel on an airplane. I was already struggling big time with allergies, so I blew my nose and felt my ear pop. I thought nothing of it and went to bed. When I woke up that morning I could not hear out of my right ear at all. I went to my PCP and he looked inside my ear. He stated the ear drum was a bit swollen and gave me a prescription for prednisone. Two days later I followed up with an ENT. I had an audiology exam that showed severe hearing loss. I was prescribed a higher tapering dose of prednisone and full hearing loss work up including a ton of blood work and MRI of Brain and IACs - which all came back normal. Tomorrow will be two weeks and I haven't noticed any improvement. At times I hear crackling and there is a pressure sensation in my ear. I'm starting to lose hope that it will ever come back. I go back to the ENT on 5/23/2024 to see what the next steps are, and see if the audiogram shows any improvement. It is depressing that I am half deaf out of no where. I want my old life back.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Earning £77,000, and paying into cs pension, with two children. I've never claimed child benefit because I've been earning over the threshold, however, think it may be worth it..?
Can someone please explain like I'm five what I do? Make the claim, then at the end of the year do a self assessment, gross salary - pension = the total I need to taper it from?
Can anyone help me understand what this might be per month when it's all paid back?

Hey guys, first of all thanks for being such a supportive community, I've always had such great responses to my other threads here so I am back again!
Quick details: I had a full extraction (26 teeth) out at the start of the year, didn't opt for immediate dentures due to being autistic and wanting to minimise oral interventions as much as possible.
Well, I am about to get my dentures in the next couple of weeks! Exciting stuff! So far the whole process has gone really well, yesterday I had an appointment to try out the teeth fitted into the wax mould and they fit really well and I was able to talk with them already which my dentists were super impressed with as the wax wasn't getting a very good seal / suction.
Are there any bits and bobs you guys recommend getting in the house ready? Cleaning solutions? Some sort of "bath" for them overnight? Specific brands of fixant? Etc etc.
I thought it best to ask you guys as we are all going through this journey, and what better than to ask the people with lived experience!

Hello there, about 3ish weeks ago my family and I decided to take on a previously neglected beardie. The rescue he was relinquished at is assuming he's 2 yr old. I was told he lived outside with little human interaction prior to being relinquished.
I'm also assuming he wasn't fed veggies or fruits as he has zero interest in them. That said, maybe I just haven't found the right veggie he was used to- I know they can be picky. I've been working on this and have taken advice from other feeds on here/other places and right now I've been successful with a few bok choy leaves but not mustard green, collard green, kale, bell peppers, blueberries, celery, carrots, etc (I've tried most things available at a regular grocery store near me but I haven ventured to an organic store yet like Trader Joe's). I plan to try bee pollen and a few other things and then I'll play the "battle of wills" game with him and take insects away. This week I already decreased the number of insects I fed him so I'm tapering before stopping.
Anywho, I'm more posting this because I want to make sure I'm encouraging socialization correctly. I try to hold him once a day and depending on his mood I may hold him for a while or it might only be a few minutes - I want to respect his limits.
Most of the time when I go to get him out of his cage, I'll pet his head first and he'll close his eyes and kind of flatten out in defense. Once I pick him up and hold him to my chest he'll relax and I can feel him "unflatten." While I hold him I talk to him and pet his head with my finger. Then I'll put him back and we both go back to doing what we were doing.
Other times when I go to get him out of his cage and I pet his head, he'll open his mouth (+/- hiss) but so far he doesn't try to bite or anything. When he does this I know he might flail when I go to pick him up so if I try to pick him up and he completely freaks out I don't push it and I might try again later, or sometimes I don't if he just seems cranky all day. If he just flails a little I'll follow through with picking him up and these are the times I usually hold him for less time than the times he is "easy" to pick up because his body language is different. He'll still relax but his neck will be black or darker in color so I know he's still upset but he's allowing me to annoy him.
I do have a leash for him and I've used it 3 times so far. He has days of being curious so my thought is once I hold him for a little I can let him explore around us where we're sitting, whether it be on the couch or living room floor. So far he seems ok with me putting it on but there's a metal hook that attaches the harness to the leash and I don't think he likes that metal part because he gives it side-eye so I'm going to cover the metal part up with black electrical tape.
I wish I had something that he really liked as a treat that I could use as positive reinforcement but so far that's only insects and I don't get the vibe that insects would click as positive reinforcement to him if used that way.
Sooo... Should I be doing more or less or something different? Anyone else have a similar situation or rescue?

I’ve been on 50mg of seroquel for 15 months now. My psychiatrist prescribed it for my bpd, mania-like episodes and sleep issues I have. It’s helped immensely with the sleep issues and somewhat okay with the other stuff. Lately I’ve been looking back and noticed some things and I’m not sure if they’re commonly associated with using seroquel, those things would be: - weight gain without dietary changes, weighed just over 50kg when I started and weigh 65kg now - brain fog, confusion and concentration issues - trouble sleeping normal amounts - if no one wakes me up, I sleep up to 12 hours and still feel tired - exhaustion - I get exhausted extremely easily, which only got worse as I gained more weight
Are those somewhat common side effects? I’m strongly considering slowly tapering off because all these things have been strongly negatively impacting my life lately. The weight gain isn’t stopping either, and I can’t afford buying a new wardrobe of clothes every 2 months.

Ok, love is not the right word, I just wanted to stick with the spirit of the Sellers inspired title. Here's the timeline, sordid details following:
5/8-5/24/23 - Job offered, finger printed, E-qip done, soft credit pull, no interim 7/?/23 - Interview scheduled with investigator, this was probably mid month, my in-laws were in town 8/14/23 - follow up interview w/ the same investigator, by video 10/20/23 - received LOI for things previously discussed with investigator - immediately retained safetyblitz44 4/24/2024 - finally turned in all documentation required by LOI
I waited 3 weeks to contact the FSO from the hiring company. I received a call back from the program manager pretty fast - they profusely apologized that I should have been notified 11 months ago that they were on a hiring freeze and could no longer offer me the position.
I let them know that this was OK and understandable - BUT, that I had still been in contact with DCSA, had an interview, LOI, etc. and that regardless my case should reflect that. They asked me to send my resume and told me they'd call back.
Not even 2 hours later, they call and let me know that YES I have been adjudicated favorably BUT that's when the company dropped my case. I will remain in this status for about 6 months total, during which time I need to find a job to activate me. This is not the end of the world, the PM referred me to a sub and I'm interviewing next week and I am reaching out to my network - someone is going to pick up a software engineer ready to be cleared, that's probably a non issue. I'm very lucky to find myself in this position at all.
Long version...
I was unemployed from late 2021 to early 2023 when I finally bit the bullet and went back to cleared work. I'm a software engineer and I've been cleared before, I didn't think it would be a huge deal, but I was wrong.
I have filled out the SF-86 a lot, I'm in my 40s and it started in the army in 1999. I have had cleared roles without much issue but I never really had red flags either.
This time I had some IRS issues and I checked "yes" to the having used drugs box. It was weed and I had stopped during the pandemic - it was a social thing and the pandemic sucked all of those aspects right out of it. Sharing seemed to make sense til then and I was never one to sit around getting high alone so it naturally tapered off more than a conscious effort to quit. But, I have no intention of doing it again, so giddyup.
When I met with the investigator for an interview it became clear why I hadn't gotten an interim this time but not why it never came up before. They asked me about "an arrest in March 1997" and all I could say was "HOLY SHIT, THAT'S ON THERE?!"
Now, having re-read the SF-86 a ton, I still can't quite figure out where I would have listed this other than at the end because all of the arrest questions from rev 2016 are "past 7 years" but, some way, somehow I will list this in the future because this was 26 years prior when i was 15.
When I was 15 I was at a bus stop by the school in my city when a friend drove by and stopped - a bunch of us got in. I was sitting shotgun and saw the vehicle we had just entered had no ignition and realized it was stolen and we were all going to get arrested, which we did. No charges, none of us stole a car, including the driver - she was riding in a second hand hot car - we were just in the thing. It was teenage stupidity all the way down. I never thought of it again other than as a hilarious anecdote because we were arrested and released to our parents and that was the end of it til that interview! LOL!
The investigator told me in no uncertain terms that this was why i needed an interview. They said they would have never had to do it otherwise. But, I'm still not sure where I would have listed it or what would have made me think of it. They showed me the FBI report that just said it was an arrest assumed felony. There's an EVER question about being charged with a felony but I was not charged. That was no issue after I explained it and I assume the FBI finally followed up with the rest of their report.
Otherwise we just talked about the stint with MJ use, long over, my IRS issues, and I brought up a bench warrant that I had in another state but explained there was really nowhere on the form to list it and that it was for an unpaid ticket from the year 2000 (misdemeanor) with no statute of limitations. I had only found out about it right before the pandemic, it became a low priority real fast. Same with the IRS stuff. I had stopped filing for a bunch of years just because I couldn't afford the 1099 I had been on one year. When you don't file once it's easy to keep not filing! But, in 2021, before the layoffs, I had hired an accountant to help me get it all straightened out. I just needed to file the missed year but I wasn't sure if that was the right move or not. I owed but I was broke and dealing with layoffs plus the IRS hadn't said anything - it's only human to hope they never do! LOL. I never did find any real sources to corroborate a time limit on failing to file, though, so I didn't really want to push that envelope.
When I got the LOI it was only for the 2 tax years I hadn't filed and the bench warrant. Just the words "bench warrant" told me I should get a lawyer and I did. Getting those tax returns processed and getting the warrant lifted took 7 months. Each time a deadline came up from DCSA I submitted everything I had - screenshots, correspondence w/ the attorney working on my bench warrant and the state the case was in - and each time they extended me further.
I ended up needing 2 lawyers - I initially hired the user mentioned above and they found someone who was bar'd in the state I needed. The bench warrant was for an unpaid parking ticket (that I could swear on a stack of bibles was paid at the time, but I can't prove that, so). It took several months to get proof. Same with the IRS stuff. I sent a large payment on the 2nd of January and it took til April to fully reflect on my account. It was excruciating. If you owe taxes and it's a one off, do yourself a favor and call the people who can waive the penalties. I was able to make reasonable payment arrangements online and THEN get 1/3 of my bill cut.
Mainly the lawyer made sure my "final" packet - the one I turned in for the first due date with all of my statements - was clear and correct and would reflect the steps I was taking. Wording on the LOI response is crucial to success along with proof - they will help make sure you are addressing the issues as requested by the LOI without overthinking it. I'm not a terrible writer but that isn't exactly the point. Once I hit that juncture I really wanted to be as sure as I could be that I was doing the right things. They can also help you put your case in perspective - they have experience with weirder or worse than yours. Plus, if you found them on reddit you can respond to them in gifs and memes and know they'll get it. All told for 7 months of counsel, an entire additional lawyer, and including all fees from that process, this cost $2500 and my retainer remainder was refunded as soon as we closed. No hearings or court time necessary, everything was remote and asynchronous.
One of the best parts of this outcome is how great it feels to know I'm truly "squeaky clean" again. It doesn't take too long, depending, I guess. If you look at my account you'll see one of the last weed plants I grew in 2015. Cultivation is one of those "in the past 7 years" questions and I was in year 8 which I may always get a silly kick out of. I did let the investigator know as it was relevant to some other info - but, I'm a horticulturalist at heart, which is also fully reflected in my hobbies. I have no desire or need to grow weed again but it's a thing I have done and have experience with which is nothing to be ashamed of.
Be honest - with yourself AND investigators. Don't be too squeaky of a wheel when it's taking a long time - sometimes that's a really happy accident. Get another job while you wait or keep your current one. File those late taxes now, not later. Old warrants for misdemeanors are cheaper than you think. Sometimes stuff really does come up that you had no reason to list but it isn't necessarily the end of the world.
Oh, and I've been naked on the internet and no one cared.

I know this is unnecessarily long, so if you are not in the mood for reading, I understand. But I would greatly appreciate anyone who would take the time to read my story that is probably TMI and badly in need of some editing. I just really need some advice from people whose heads are less cloudy than mine.
My fiancé M/42 and I F41 have been together for about 4 years and have known each other since high school. I knew he was a recovering addict when I got together with him but I fell head over heels in love and didn’t see the relapse on the horizon that would occur shortly after the honeymoon phase and would eventually almost kill me - I took a swipe of some mystery powder and touched it to my tongue (fentanyl) thinking it would help me get through the most stressful day of my life as i was ceaning out his place while I was packing him up for detox. It was a total freak accident, I’m not an addict, never done anything like that in my life, I’m a single mom and a kindergarten teacher, but I loved him so much I just followed him down the rabbit hole and honestly just became so disoriented in this world I (naively) didn’t understand or even realize I had signed up for.
Anyway, He literally saved my life, and said I also saved his, because that day is what motivated him to get and stay clean for good despite being an active heroin addict for the majority of his life.
He worked an incredibly thorough program, and he gained more friends, money, and more overall success in 2 years than I’ve been able to scrounge up in an entire lifetime. And it’s no surprise honestly. He’s a special person. Absolutely brilliant, charismatic, driven, and has a heart of gold.
Within a year of getting sober, he moved me and my daughters into a gorgeous home adjacent to a golf course, bought luxury vehicles for both me and him, convinced me to quit my teaching job which was making me miserable, so I could finally be fully present for my girls, and then put a giant diamond ring on my left hand. He completely spoils us. We went from having nothing to having every tangible thing, we could possibly need.
The stability that he provided for us meant the world to a single mom who was barely making ends meet, but it was always just the icing on the cake for me. He’s my best friend in the world, he makes me laugh so hard my mouth hurts from smiling, he show me that he loves even the parts of myself that I don’t find lovable. I found my soulmate.
His program started slipping after 2 1/2 years (last November). He was already struggling in his role of being a stepfather, and we were fighting a lot about parenting stuff. He has a lot to learn, has little patience, and seems to have very unrealistic expectations of my kids. He wanted Parenting to be this effortless thing, and he just doesn’t get that it’s not. And that kids are not always going to behave themselves and that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with them. so we were fighting a lot.
In December, he started complaining about his chronic back pain again (a real issue for him as he’s had five back surgeries due to a snowboarding accident in his early 20s-this was during that height of Purdue Pharma and what got him hooked on pain meds)
While I know he was legitimately in pain, it was also a red flag because pain was the culprit for his last relapse. He decided to go in for a sixth surgery and was told he would have to wait three months. He found a surgeon who has made a lot of profit off of him over the years (as he’s a PI attorney) and was willing to prescribe him generous amounts of pain pills to get him through the three months of increasing pain that he was experiencing. He spent the next three months in bed, depressed, checking out, taking pills depressed, checking out- as I became increasingly suspicious that his behavior was much too loopy for the amount of medication he was being prescribed. I fell into the role of his nurse, and his babysitter. Making sure he didn’t text to nonsense to clients, making sure he didn’t fall and make his back worse, making sure he wasn’t interacting with the kids, etc
I knew he wasn’t being honest with me, but he just kept gaslighting me. It honestly felt like he was psychologically tormenting me, treating me as though I was totally paranoid, heartless and out of line. I thought after the surgery, it would finally get better. I made a promise that I would be there for him because he had never had anyone there for him for the previous surgeries and it had been a really traumatic experience for him in the past. I really stepped up and tried so hard to his rock. The hospital experience was horrific, mainly because no amount of diloted was relieving him of the pain. None of the nurses understood why he needed so much more than everyone else, but I think his tolerance had just become so high.
After that nightmare was finally over I was really counting on things getting better, as the plan was for him to taper off the meds, live pain-free, and get back to normal. It didn’t go that way. It just kept getting worse and no matter how many times I told him that I didn’t trust him he just had an excuse for an explanation for everything. He is a master manipulator and I listened to him do it to everyone, doctors, the pharmacist he formed a “friendship” with, literally everyone.
On Mother’s Day, it got to a point where he couldn’t hide it anymore. He disappeared for the day, Ended up, passing out at a gas station and was unreachable for hours, when he finally came home, the car was all fucked up and he claims it was someone else’s fault. He went straight to his home office and I didn’t see the rest of the night until I walked in on him smoking crushed up pills. After that, he confessed everything to me, including the time that he told me not to check the mail because he had a special surprise for me to thank me for all the love and support I gave him To help him through his surgery. it turned out he had drug dealers sending him drugs in the mail. Needless to say there was no surprise for me me. Just heartbreak and betrayal. I felt like a fool.
I was still processing this the next day when , after insisting on taking a photo of me in these designer sunglasses he purchased for me out of guilt. I asked him not to take my photo, because I had tears in my eyes, but he insisted. He was napping next to me and I opened his phone to erase the photo. we’ve always had each other’s passwords, and have looked through each others photos before for various reasons, sharing photos, etc. I cannot emphasize enough how much I trust his loyalty to me when it comes to anything other than drugs.
But for some reason, all of my photos, the ones I was taking on my phone were showing up in his feed. I was so confused, so I started scrolling through deleting unflattering double chin pictures of myself when I came across that menu photos organized based on face recognition. One of them was his ex. I remember him telling me he deleted all of his photos of her the first time he told me he loved me.
I opened it and scrolled through hundreds of pictures of their happy life together. The pictures got more and more sexual, one of her with her legs spread, another another of them in the bathtub together, her kissing him while he had his hands around her neck, another screenshot of her naked in the shower with a thumbnail shot of him in the corner obviously jerking off to her on FaceTime. Because I’m a masochist I decided to take it one step further and look in his video folder. I found a There I found a thumbnail shot if a close-up of him penetrating her. I watched it and it just completely crushed whatever was left of me.
I’m normally a really passive person, and I just completely lost my mind. I reacted as though I had caught him cheating on me. I just couldn’t handle the physical evidence of such a close up shot of him being inside another woman. It’s stupid because I know, like me, he has a past. Obviously he’s been with other women. Obviously he’s been attracted to them. But it just scarred my brain, I literally haven’t even been able to eat since because I’ve been so nauseous. I know it’s ridiculous, because this is a reality I was well aware existed, but seeing it with my own eyes… I don’t know what to say. Other than that I need a lobotomy.
He says he erased all of those videos and photos from his phone, and something weird happened where all of his photos from the cloud just re-uploaded when he got a new phone. He’s not a technical person and I actually believe him because, aside from being a complete liar when it comes to drugs, he has always show me the upmost, integrity, love and loyalty. So it’s not that I don’t believe him. I just can’t get that image out of my head.
I can’t tell if this intense emotional reaction I’m having would be the same reaction anyone would have if they saw what I saw, or if I’m combining the feelings of betrayal over the gaslighting and the relapse…, the last four months of feeling completely invisible, hopeless, and like he was choosing drugs over me. My mind is like mush and I seriously can’t differentiate between these two very separate issues. I’m so confused, but that’s what gaslighting does to you. It makes you question your reality.
He said that he’s finally willing to go into detox, so at this point, I have waited this long, it would be silly not to stick around and see if he’s finally going to put an end to this. What’s getting me is that he’s still making excuses, still not seeming very remorseful, and is still so deep in self-pity that he doesn’t seem to have any awareness of how badly I’m hurting because of him. It feels like he just doesn’t care. anyone who’s ever loved an addict knows that feeling well.
I’m in Al-anon, and I’m well aware of all of the things I should be doing, focusing on myself, etc. but I’m just not doing well, and I can’t seem to find my way out of this dark hole. Anyone who has made it this far deserves some sort of a Reddit badge of honor. This was more of an autobiography than a simple question. I just wanna hear some outside input because I don’t trust my own mind right now. I’m willing to take your criticism, just please be kind. I know I’ve made mistakes, I’m just hurting so badly. I can’t seem to sort through this. Thank you so much if you took the time to read all of this and still want to respond. You have no idea how much it means to me.

I'm back with another update. Check my post history for previous experience reports if you're interested.
I started testosterone pellets in September of 2023. My total T and free T at that time were 8.9 ng/dL and .7 pg/mL. At previous checks since starting testosterone, I have had total T of 176 ng/dL (six weeks post insertion) and then 251 ng/dL (four weeks post insertion). Both of those times I had free T of 2.5 pg/mL.
I got new bloods a week or so ago, six weeks post insertion of a 175 mg pellet. My total T was at 147 ng/dL and my free T was at 1.7 pg/mL. Based on the bloods, it appears I have not had the "stacking" problem some people have with pellets, despite my kind of high dose. I've definitely seen folks who get a much lower dose but end up with 400+ after a couple rounds.
How I've been feeling this round: Tired compared to previous rounds, and my motivation is not as high as in previous rounds. Definitely an improvement from pre-treatment times, though. Mood is stable; no "roller coaster," which is a big deal for me. I have a history of depressive and hypomanic episodes. Libido is a piece I'm always working on. It's vastly better than prior, but not where I want it. I have the complicating factor of SSRI use. I've been tapering off that very slowly. Once off, I'm adding wellbutrin, which can have good effects on libido.
The only unwanted effect I've had continues to be dark hairs above my lip. That's OK. I just remove them. My head hair is fine. My voice is not deeper.
Another moving piece in my story is that I've drastically changed what I eat since November. I've lost 25 pounds, so my weight loss may also be affecting things. I think I might be tired because I'm struggling to eat enough protein as I limit saturated fat. (On a bit of a tangent, due to my eating changes, I've improved my cholesterol somewhat and greatly improved my insulin sensitivity. Yay!)
There's not really much new to report, but I figure I'd do another one anyway for all my pellet ladies out there.
Oh yeah! Edited to add: I think my hair is getting wavy! I have super straight fine hair, and it seems like it's getting a wave. I dig it.

I (male in 20s) have suffered from a porn and sex addiction for over a decade now.
I would frequently edge for 3-6 hours a day, just maintaining that high from pornography & a decade of this has left me with chronic fatigue, depression and anxiety.
I have burnt out my brain and hpa axis, all of my neurotransmitters are low resulting in the symptoms I have. I know this is the case as when I tried an SSRI for 1 year my symptoms greatly improved due to the increase in serotonin and dopamine.
I’m currently unemployed, pretty much physically disabled after bad reactions to certain drugs I took. I want to recover & I am slowly. These bad reactions combined with my severe porn addiction symptoms have left me with severe insomnia and an exercise intolerance which I am trying hard to heal.
THE POINT OF THIS POST
My addiction is still going strong & I am ready for change. Life is miserable and I want more. I want to reach my potential.
I am going to create posts fortnightly, detailing my journey.
I went 70 days abstinent 1year ago, and the withdrawal symptoms were too intense. I couldn’t sleep, was crying from depression and couldn’t function. From this experience I’ve learnt my brain needs a longer period of time to adjust.
I am going to attempt a TAPER, to start with I will relapse every 3rd day. Then I will increase the days of abstinence between.

Hi all,
I acquired an Instagram cat-themed meme page back in August of 2023 and it had around 150-170k followers. I forget exactly how many. It now has 373k.
Fast forward to November and I decided to launch an eCommerce store and post the usual product ads from AliExpress in the middle of carousels. Because it was approaching Q4, or was in Q4, it made a pretty good amount of money off the bat, being in the middle of November and all, and there were 3 consecutive days (day before, of/on, and after thanksgiving) where it made over $700 a day in sales (about half of that was profit).
Things continued to taper down at a completely even and balanced pace until this month / last month where I've made basically nothing, but had to keep spending on the Shopify plan / bills.
That being said, it did make a total of around $8-9k in net sales, about $5-6k in profit. Not a lot of money of course but it was actually enough to help me get a car so I appreciate that.
TLDR: It's just sitting there. Instagram has also recently changed their algorithm so I'm not seeing a ton of growth currently.
Any ideas on how I can revitalize this account's earning potential? I feel like there's a lot that could be done based on how successful (relatively speaking) it was in the past. I'll probably re-open the store come the fall again because that's when it seemed to be doing well.
EDIT: I'm also looking into selling the account. It would sell for $8-$10K because of the kind of followers it has (very active), some reels get tens of millions of plays, and a large portion are U.S. Followers. I'm US based. Trouble with that is there are so many sus/phishy looking, escrow-based 'Instagram account selling and trading' websites out there that IDK what to trust

LaFortune told Caribbean Life on Wednesday that the uplifting anthem pays homage to Jamaican national hero Marcus Garvey and his teachings of African liberation, self-reliance and PanAfricanism.
“’The Black Star Liner’ is a reggae song with a driving rhythm that invites the listener to join the symbolic Black Star Liner, a shipping company founded by Garvey in 1919, and journey to Africa on a ‘mission of love and togetherness,’” she said. “The lyrics express the pride, hope and love that the Jamaican people have for Africa and the African Diaspora, as well as the determination and courage to overcome challenges and create a more prosperous future with other Africans.”
LaFortune said the song is inspired by Garvey’s philosophy and the music of Bob Marley and Burning Spear, “two of the most influential reggae artists who embraced Garvey’s teachings and spread them to the world.”
She said the song also “predicts changes that were going to happen in the Jamaican-African Bond and in Africa that were in keeping with the vision of Marcus Garvey.”
“With its dynamic reggae rhythms and socially conscious lyrics, ‘The Black Star Liner’ takes listeners on a metaphorical journey from Jamaica to the African continent,” LaFortune said. “’The Black Star Liner’ metaphor is so powerful because it represents the dream vehicle that will carry African peoples back to their ancestral homeland.
“Just as Marcus Garvey founded the actual shipping company in 1919 to facilitate the return to Africa, my song envisions a symbolic journey where we’re all aboard that ‘liner’ headed to the continent with pride, unity and determination,” she added. “The Black Star Liner embodies the hopes of the pan-African movement.”
The song’s powerful chorus declares in part: “On the Black Star Liner, we coming from Jamaica/On the Black Star Liner, we going to Africa/With the words of Marcus/And the strength we possess/We’re on a mission of love and togetherness.”
“’The Black Star Liner’ is my humble contribution to keeping Marcus Garvey’s dream alive – that, one day, African peoples across the world will come together in the spirit of pride, self-determination, and unity,” LaFortune said. “It’s a reminder that, despite our struggles, we have an unbreakable strength that will ultimately lead us to a brighter future.”
The single is available now on all major streaming platforms.
LaFortune’s musical voyage began in Jamaica, where she said she was immersed in the melodies of her homeland.
Migrating to the US at 30, LaFortune said she continued nurturing her passion while contributing to the Caribbean Diaspora’s cultural fabric.
Her debut EP “Dance with Me” Volume 1, released in June 2023, showcases her originality and song-writing skills, and her artistic range on themes from romance to social commentary.
The festive “Caribbean Christmas” album followed in December 2023, fusing vibrant Caribbean styles.
LaFortune said she is currently working on “Dance with Me” Volume 2, set for a 2024 release, and continuing her powerful musical legacy.
She said included in “Dance with Me” Volume 2 will be her recent releases, “Reggae Music is Love to me,” “Don’t Drink Your Sorrows,” and “The Black Star Liner,” among many more original songs.

Gestures and Intuitive Computing — From Here to Smart Matter- full article
Smart cameras equipped with AI and mixed reality capabilities can revolutionize how we interact with everyday devices. These cameras, placed in various rooms, combined with AI/mixed reality smart glasses or using Wi-Fi pings, could intuitively interpret our gestures. The goal is for AI to understand what we mean based on context and body language, making interactions with technology feel natural and fluid. While voice commands are already common, gestures provide a complementary and equally powerful way to control devices.
‘Gaze To Establish Intent’
To connect with a device, you simply look at it or signal it in some way. Imagine standing and looking at a floor lamp.
You tap your leg to turn it on, then raise your hand and turn an invisible knob in the air to increase the brightness. Swiping your hand changes the hue-adjusting setting, and turning the invisible knob again adjusts the hue. Then, you swipe one more time and smile because you have an idea. You want some movement in this lamp’s behavior. You want ‘machine playfulness’. You start bobbing forward and back like you are dancing with the machine. As you lurch back and forth rhythmically, the smart cameras understand you want the light to mimic this rhythm and start pulsating in sync with your movements. This playful interaction with technology should make you smile and feel more human. We should expect your devices to just, ‘get you’. They should play like any pet or child. Our tools should also be our toys.
Later, while sitting on your couch, you want the light to sync with the rhythm of the music you’re playing. You look at the floor lamp to establish a connection, point at the sound source, and bob your head to the beat. The light matches the pulsation to the music. You twirl your finger to signal the light to continue syncing with the rhythm of all subsequent songs. Continue..

Have you ever witnessed the first formation of life? I mean, I've seen my children, I was there for every step of the process if you know what I mean. Hah. But what I'm talking about is from beyond the beginning. The molten slag of a planet forming over millions or even billions of years into a habitable plane. Have you seen, from that very point, chemicals coalescing and reproducing? Amino acids and the forming proteins?
Well today, I found out, when you die in the crypts, you don't see a light in the end of a tunnel. You witness something truly beautiful and pointless.
I watched the birth of life from nothing. Short molecular protein chains. No cell walls, no encasing membranes. If DNA or genetic code of any kind was in their descendant's future, it wasn't present now. I watched it cling to the surface of rock, self-replication fueled by the warm free energy of a sun, millions of generations, hard work, decay, and new growth, only to be destroyed by a crashing wave. The weak hydrogen bonds were broken, as simple as that. The ancestor's hard work gone in a single blink-and-you-miss-it moment. Somehow I knew, wherever this was, that was all the life that planet would ever see until it was swallowed up by its star.
It was a quick fleeting spark. All the dramas and soap operas in the world could have taken place in a single raindrop. A unique potential, unlike any others, this planet's chosen ones, snuffed out before it could evolve to breathe its first breath. Rather grim isn't it? I don't know why I dreamt it, but there it was, a pointless creation followed by an equally pointless destruction. I guess it was a nice commercial break from the missing-arm-induced pain i was suffering. A wonderful hilucination, if a bit mocob.
Anyway, back to my unimaginable blood-curdling, mind-wrenching torture porn session. My eyes were closed a very long time, but when they did open, I was finally where I should be. Horizontal in a hospital bed, surrounded by trained surgeons. That said, it was on an alien world, and the surgeons were not trained in human biology. What's worse, they had no way to dull the pain.
Death would have been a blessing, unfortunately, the doctors were good, in spite of the unknown make, model, and engine size laying before them. 5 hours under an experimental knife, and I think an arc welder, is what it took to reattach my arm and fix my internal organ damage. 5 hours of poking and prodding and searing and stitching and pulling and zapping. All things considered, I am impressed it only took 5 hours. Ted's species was remarkable when it came to taking in new information and applying it in the real world. All their extra brains probably didn't hurt either.
If you remember, Ted's species came equipped with five extremity brains, and a central one. That's three for all three of his legs, two for both of his arms, and one in his central body. Ted would have had six individual minds within him before I found him dead in a ditch beside that interstellar sidewalk. By that point, only one, Ted, had survived.
After my, let's say, unique experience, I was left alone in a dark room to rest. Ted came by to visit. Oh yeah, he had a body now. He wore that "Tall, dark, and extraterrestrial" look well. He was easily 7 feet tall in his real body. Those Ted-fu moves should pack a real punch in a body like that.
"That reminds me. You wanted your fighting moves back, right?" My voice was terribly parched after my morning shouting sessions.
Shouting obscenities at medical proffesionals was about all I could do when Ted's doctors were busy inventing a new form of torture. Seriously, take notes. Good stuff in there.
"Keep them. That isn't going to be my concern here. It's hard to even walk now, let alone fight." He admitted. "I'm used to having secondary brains do all the work. I would only take over when the situation required. Now, I'm all I've got."
"Just another one of us handicap one-brainers," I taunted. "How does it feel to be on my level? Could you say you're just 'too single-minded?"
He laughed. I don't think I've ever heard Ted lower himself to laughing at one of my jokes. It wasn't even a good one. I know I could have come up with something better. Hold on. I- huh... well, I guess the moment has passed.
Instead, I teased him again. "so, you have a sense of humor after all."
"Always have. You just aren't funny." He shot back.
Then it was my turn to laugh at a bad joke.
"Bad idea!" I realized aloud. "Laughing hurts. Don't make me laugh."
There was an awkward silence before Ted finally spoke again. Our whole conversation was full of them.
"You're going back there aren't you?" He asked.
"I have to. I have a family somewhere, and I have to know if they're still alive. Something bad is happening on earth and I just want to be there to protect them."
"I don't think you ever will find out."
"Blunt and to the point today are ya?"
"Always have been. You just never listen. Im serious. I dont think you'll make it home."
There it was again, that quiet that kept creeping back up into our conversation.
"What if you run into Brad again?" He asked. "I won't be there to reboot your brain next time. You will either die or-"
"Don't tell me."
"Or you will suffer greatly, then die." He continued while checking his version of fingernails.
"I told you not to tell me. Now I can choose which option I like better."
"I'm being serious." He shot back at me. "You have no defenses against him."
"I know. I'm hoping he's dead. That's three shots from a Tedidian gun he has taken now."
Neither of us were convinced.
"Tedidian? That's the name you gave my species? I'm honored."
"I'm the first of my kind here, I get the naming privileges."
If our conversation took place over the radio, the host would be mortified. Not by the subject matter, no. The silence would be dubbed "dead air" and the host would desperately clamor for a new topic to keep the dialogue active and dynamic. We didn't have that luxury. I think Ted was sorry he couldn't have done more to help, but he would never admit it. I actually might miss him after all- Nah... Too stuck up his own butt to admit his shortcomings. I dont need a guy like that tagging along.
"Do you- mourn the loss of your secondary minds? Were they separate thinking entities?"
"I mourned their loss eons ago. I have moved on. Now I have to re-remember how to walk and talk and do math equations without them. I will be slower than my academic peers, but I have with me knowledge of the unknowable. That should make up for some of my deficiencies."
Eventually, Ted was ushered out. I needed the rest. The doctors here were good. They had managed to piece together this broken puzzle written with a completely different alphabet, and accelerated my healing a great deal. Not really a surprise, given they could build Ted a whole new body. I was back on my feet in a matter of 2 days, using my arm in 3, and back to 70% at 4. I dont think I'll ever make it back to 100%, but all things considered, this is pretty good.
It's hard to tell how long I have been away from earth, but given this trip was meant to last a very long time, I don't suspect I should miss my flight, so long as I find my portal. As long as I can find Eddy. So long as I can find all of them; Eddy, Rook, James, even Jyong and Me-Yan.
Ted's people had a similar arrangement to earth's at first. When Ted was an explorer, their portal was at the edge of the system, but they brought it down to their planet with rockets and parachutes after he and a few others never came back. The history was fascinating. They were a united planet, far and above the most advanced I have come across so far, but in spite of that, the portal slowly leeched off the planet, and spat out horrors beyond their imagination. What they once used as an interstellar fast travel, quickly turned into a speed bump, then a health hazard. There was a reason the builders set this portal so far away from the planet. It wasn't meant to be here, so Ted's people had to build a wall, with poor old lost Ted on the other side. They closely monitored the other side though, and were shocked to find the brain activity of a Tedidian coming from yours truly. That would be Ted's mind, shoulder to shoulder with mine, in my head if you weren't following along. Then they rescued me from Brad.
Speaking of, I asked around about Brad. Someone shot him, so that someone should know if he survived. I had to know if he would be waiting for me on the other side. Eventually, I asked the right person, who introduced me to my rescuer. He wore a white uniform and carried a big gun, even for Tedidian standards. I was kinda jealous. I like my pew pews, but these things were on another level.
He confidently told me that Brad was indeed "dead." I had Ted translate for me whenever I spoke to a native, but they were quickly learning on their own how to speak Sean-ese. That's the language I told them I speak. Might as well leave a lasting mark. That confidence, however, did not come from a place I liked.
"But did you actually see it dead?" I pressed.
"Nothing survives a plasma arc, even a graze, let alone two." He scoffed. Or I think he scoffed. There is no universal interplanetary sign that someone is scoffing at you. You just have to pick up on subtle undertones of pride, shock, or snood. Ted had lots of snood. Luckily, he broke the mold. The people here were as different as people are on earth. I just happened to get the most insufferable one imaginable. Just my luck.
"Then call this thing 'nobody,' because it survived one before." I suggested.

"Oh, but it is." Ted interjected

I felt like I was one of those chains of self-replicating chemicals. That's almost all they were, chemicals, but they had every marker required to classify life. They even responded to change in the environment. They were short-lived bonded protein chains that consumed, produced waste, even grew by self-replication and bonding.
"Hey Ted," I started. "I wanted to run something by you."
"I'm listening, but let's keep it under 280 characters. I'm not in the mood for a marathon today."
I rolled my eyes. "Glad to see you're back to your old self."
"My old self? I've been trying to get back to that, but every time I open my eyes, there you are."
"Look here Dane Cook, I saw something after the attack. It was on another planet. I think someone is trying to show me something."
"You were also close to Brad at the time, who we know can alter your perception."
"Maybe, but this felt different. The first time he affected my mind, he put me in a dreamlike state. Then he used something familiar to me to disguise himself. This was different. I wasn't me, I was this green amino-acid chain with no protective coating. All I could sense were chemicals, no light, no sound, but I knew what was happening too, like I was watching from the outside at the same time."
Ted learned how to roll his eyes just now from me, and mimicked the action to an exagerated end. "Don't think much about it. Many Tedidians see a light at the end of a tunnel when we are close to death. Perhaps this is just your version."
"Perhaps." One thing is certain, even if it scares me, I would be glad to be without Ted. I almost forgot how annoying he was after our little bonding session.
"But I have a question for you. Who is Dane Cook?"
"My planet's worst comedian. Thats not the point."
The day did come that I had to leave, and Ted, in his usual fashion, refused to say goodbye. Instead, all he would say is "I won't be far behind." Cryptic, right? Like, what is that supposed to mean?
At first, I thought "Great. And right after I thought I got rid of him." But then I thought about it. It would be an interesting cultural slang to say "we will meet again." Does Ted believe in an afterlife?does he think I'll wimp out and come back?
Pointless questions aside, there was some good news. He gave me a new gun. This one made an even bigger "kaboom!" It was really fun. Heh. Haha. Gimme-gimme.
I was happy to see Jim-Bob waiting for me at the portal. I hadn't seen him since I set off that sonic weapon. Their feet are so sensitive to vibrations and sound, that weapon really messed with them. The Tedidian doctors had their work cut out for them fixing 5 listening organs per Jim-Bobidian. Together, all 20 odd Jim-Bobs and I, stepped through the portal to the nightmare world.
Now that I was on this side of the portal, I could see that Brad was gone. Oh boy, what fun. You know what else? I held onto that old piece of alien tech that Ted had his brain shoved into. I thought it would make a neat souvenir. Wouldn't you believe it if as soon as the doors closed behind me, I heard that S.O.B's voice saying "So, where to next?"
Ted copied himself yet again into that stupid thing. Didn't take long to figure out what he meant by "I won't be far behind."
"What the hell, Ted?" I shouted.
"Surprised to hear my voice?" He asked?
"More pissed than surprised. I thought I finally got rid of you."

"Rectum what now? I thought you only knew words I used in front of you. I don't even know what you said."

"But did you actually see it dead?" I pressed.
"Nothing survives a plasma arc, even a graze, let alone two." He scoffed. Or I think he scoffed. There is no universal interplanetary sign that someone is scoffing at you. You just have to pick up on subtle undertones of pride, shock, or snood. Ted had lots of snood. Luckily, he broke the mold. The people here were as different as people are on earth. I just happened to get the most insufferable one imaginable. Just my luck.
"Then call this thing 'nobody,' because it survived one before." I suggested.
His eyes widened, glad to see that was an interplanetary sign of surprise. "Th-that isn't possible."
"Oh, but it is." Ted interjected
Oh good, that thing could be waiting for me for all I know. I never thought I'd be scared to be without a Ted in my head, but there I was, terrified. He was right. Without him, I had no defense.
We were walking back to Ted's place when I began replaying the past events in my head. My vision was something I couldn't shake. It was real. I felt like I was one of those chains of self-replicating chemicals. That's almost all they were, chemicals, but they had every marker required to classify life. They even responded to change in the environment. They were short-lived bonded protein chains that consumed, produced waste, even grew by self-replication and bonding.
"Hey Ted," I started. "I wanted to run something by you."
"I'm listening, but let's keep it under 280 characters. I'm not in the mood for a marathon today."
I rolled my eyes. "Glad to see you're back to your old self."
"My old self? I've been trying to get back to that, but every time I open my eyes, there you are."
"Look here Dane Cook, I saw something after the attack. It was on another planet. I think someone is trying to show me something."
"You were also close to Brad at the time, who we know can alter your perception."
"Maybe, but this felt different. The first time he affected my mind, he put me in a dreamlike state. Then he used something familiar to me to disguise himself. This was different. I wasn't me, I was this green amino-acid chain with no protective coating. All I could sense were chemicals, no light, no sound, but I knew what was happening too, like I was watching from the outside at the same time."
Ted learned how to roll his eyes just now from me, and mimicked the action to an exagerated end. "Don't think much about it. Many Tedidians see a light at the end of a tunnel when we are close to death. Perhaps this is just your version."
"Perhaps." One thing is certain, even if it scares me, I would be glad to be without Ted. I almost forgot how annoying he was after our little bonding session.
"But I have a question for you. Who is Dane Cook?"
"My planet's worst comedian. Thats not the point."
The day did come that I had to leave, and Ted, in his usual fashion, refused to say goodbye. Instead, all he would say is "I won't be far behind." Cryptic, right? Like, what is that supposed to mean?
At first, I thought "Great. And right after I thought I got rid of him." But then I thought about it. It would be an interesting cultural slang to say "we will meet again." Does Ted believe in an afterlife?does he think I'll wimp out and come back?
Pointless questions aside, there was some good news. He gave me a new gun. This one made an even bigger "kaboom!" It was really fun. Heh. Haha. Gimme-gimme.
I was happy to see Jim-Bob waiting for me at the portal. I hadn't seen him since I set off that sonic weapon. Their feet are so sensitive to vibrations and sound, that weapon really messed with them. The Tedidian doctors had their work cut out for them fixing 5 listening organs per Jim-Bobidian. Together, all 20 odd Jim-Bobs and I, stepped through the portal to the nightmare world.
Now that I was on this side of the portal, I could see that Brad was gone. Oh boy, what fun. You know what else? I held onto that old piece of alien tech that Ted had his brain shoved into. I thought it would make a neat souvenir. Wouldn't you believe it if as soon as the doors closed behind me, I heard that S.O.B's voice saying "So, where to next?"
Ted copied himself yet again into that stupid thing. Didn't take long to figure out what he meant by "I won't be far behind."
"What the hell, Ted?" I shouted.
"Surprised to hear my voice?" He asked?
"More pissed than surprised. I thought I finally got rid of you."
"Oh stop it, you are happy to see me, admit it."
"I thought you wanted to go home. What happened to me just being a pair of legs?"
"Ah yes, but there's a crucial difference between that Ted and this one. This one is artificial, and doesn't get lonely. I am merely a copy of a personality. That way, when you die, I won't get homesick."
"I smell bullshit," I said.
Surprisingly, he didn't make an astronauts and diapers joke. Instead, he said "Got me. I am an explorer, remember? Even if I was homesick, I still yearn for the other-worldly. My adventuring days are not yet over, and this way, I can never die, unlike someone I know."
"News flash, Ted, you did die, and give me that self-aggrandizing crap you pulled in the beginning, and I'm throwing your immortal ass down the throat of the next giant monster I find."
"My path will remain rectilinear, and true."
"Rectum what now? I thought you only knew words I used in front of you. I don't even know what you said."
"True, but now I have learned how your language works, thus am able to intuit new words. You cannot convince me that was not a word. Go- 'look it up' or whatever when you get back to Earth. It means 'I'll stay on the straight and narrow.'"
"Then why didn't you just say so? You're already teetering on the edge of being too annoying to keep around, buddy." I threatened, but I had to admit, a translator would be nice.
I have to say, the next leg of the journey went on without a hitch. The Jim-Bobs, Ted, and I were making good time. Find a monster, kill it, find a planet, explore it, find another monster, kill it too. I found so many new planets, although most were dead or never had life to begin with. The odd part was, Ted was sure he had visited some before, and interacted with the residents, but there was nothing but rock where I stood.

So I've had two copies of this album sealed for over 10 years. Sold one earlier this year here on reddit this is the second and last copy. Absolute rarity to find an original sealed. Jacket has light corner creasing the top left corner. Note: my personal copy also initially had a corner crease and I imagine most will, two heavy 180 housed in a single pocket jacket will do that. There should be a poster in there when you open the shrink. I will bubble wrap this so the mailer is tight and the record is not moving around. $24

For context, I've been on Lexapro (10 mg) since 2013, and was diagnosed with depression & GAD at that time. The first year or so I felt like it was helping me, but after 3 years I upped the dose to 20mg which didn't really help with symptoms, so I went back down to 10mg and tried to quit Lexapro twice without success due to horrible withdrawals (brain zaps, feeling dizzy and unable to concentrate).
I was also a daily Marijuana smoker from 2018 to 2023, but quit completely this year in January. I started tapering the Lexapro from that point, taking 10mg and 5mg every other day, then taking 5mg every day (current) and I'm going to follow that with 5mg every other day for at least 2 weeks if not a month. This is the first time I've had no brain zaps trying to quit Lexapro, which was very encouraging!
This week I started an OCD assessment with my therapist and then got a script for Anafranil from my psychiatrist, taking 25mg for a week then 50mg from then on. I'm still weaning off the Lexapro, and was warned by a pharmacist to avoid taking both at the same time because doing so could induce serotonin syndrome.
TLDR: For now I want to ask if anyone has experience switching from these specific drugs, and any experience with swapping from an SSRI to Anafranil in general. Also if anyone has experience taking both/tapering, for now I think I'm going to completely taper Lexapro then start Anafranil without taking them around the same time just to be safe. EDIT: I am also on 250mg of lamotrigine and like that so I'm definitely staying on it, forgot to mention it. also taking 80mg of propranolol but I might drop that bc I don't find it helps much of anything (started taking it for hand tremors/not mental health related)

It's the middle of the night. My knee hurts. And I'm lining up for a 50km race in about 30 hours.
This morning I woke up with pain in my left knee. Never had any problem here before. Did my morning yoga and the knee loosened up a bit and the pain subsided. It didn't feel great throughout the day, but it was bearable. Went for an easy 5km shakeout run this evening and the knee felt fine once I got moving.
As things cooled down post run, the pain started coming back. It was alright when I went to bed, but I just tried rolling over and bending my leg and the pain got much worse.
So what could it be? And I'll I be right to run on it tomorrow?
Pain is located on the outside. Right below the knee cap. It's worse went knee is bent and less pain with straight leg.
After some googling, IT band seems like the most likely candidate, but I'm not sure. All the images I'm seeing of IT band suggest pain should be further around to the side than I'm getting. This is quite close to the knee cap.
The other contender I'm seeing in google is a lateral meniscus tear. But that doesn't quite fit either. Dr Google says a meniscus tear is painful to extend the leg and better when bent. I'm seeing the opposite.
Are either of these things something that could come on overnight? I would have thought a tear would happen during a run, not while sleeping. And being that I'm at the end of a taper, my training load has been easing off, seemingly contradictory to an overuse injury.
I know the right answer is to see a doctophysio, but it's 1am now so google and asking Reddit is the best I've got right now.
