2024.05.15 02:39 Krixwell Homebrew Townsfolk: Weaver

Weaver (Townsfolk): Once per game, choose two players (not yourself); you learn whether they are either both Townsfolk or Demons, or both Outsiders or Minions. [+0 to +1 Outsider]
The Weaver is best described as a perpendicular Seamstress. Instead of dividing by alignment and checking whether two players are on the same side, the Weaver divides by "minor" vs "major" characters on each team. Outsiders and Minions go together as minor characters, while Townsfolk and Demons go together as major.
So for a given pair of players chosen, these combinations can give a (sober, healthy and unvortoxed) Weaver a "yes":
While these can give a "no":
Naturally the most important thing for the Weaver is to find out what each person in the ping is claiming and whether the combination lines up with their result.
For example, if they have a "yes" on two players, but one is claiming Townsfolk and the other Outsider, the information suggests one of them is lying. If the Outsider claim seems to be true, the "Townsfolk" is likely either a Minion or an Outsider with some cause to claim Townsfolk (such as a Mutant, a Drunk or a Damsel). If the Townsfolk claim seems to be true, the "Outsider" may very well be the Demon. Or perhaps they're both Minions. Or the Weaver is droisoned.
With claimed character types being this important to figuring out Weaver information, the Weaver being on a script would likely have a similar effect as the Chambermaid (albeit less pronounced), in incentivizing evil players to pick their claims carefully. While the potential of a Chambermaid makes them have to think about waking patterns, the Weaver more straightforwardly encourages Demons to claim Townsfolk and Minions to claim Outsiders.
I think the Weaver would be relatively weak on their own due to the sheer variety of worlds their info can reflect, but quite strong when combined with other pieces of information to narrow down which worlds are relevant.

Interactions of note

Townsfolk
Outsiders
Minions
Demons
Travelers

2024.05.15 02:36 majoroofboys A Guide on What to Do At College if You Want To Succeed

There was a post that was recently posted and it's been asked a ton: "How do I get a computer science related job after I graduate from KSU?". I thought I'd share this with everyone because I've been down this path and managed to make it on the other side. This will be a long explanation and hopefully, can serve as some sort of guide for students. That being said, things are subjective and this is not the holy grail of how to make it. You might find all, some or none of it useful. I encourage testimonials and whatnot in the comments. YMMV

Some information about me: I've been around here for a while. I was a student not too long ago, studied computer science for my bachelors. After graduating, I work in FAANG and have worked in big tech for a while. No, I don't work at Amazon. I am a senior software engineer. I touch frontend & backend technologies. I participate in hiring frequently.
Over the years and while attending here, there's been a weird disconnect between students, goals and how to achieve them in tech. Goals can be anywhere from learning new technologies, getting internships to securing a full time job before or after you graduate. As much as I would love for there to be a path where you can do minimum effort and still succeed, there isn't. A lot of you seem to not realize that. Getting a degree in this field is not enough. Doing projects that show no passion / interests is not enough. Being stuck on tutorials for years is not enough.
This field is much like a sport. There are very few people that can just be great without any effort. You have to be consistent. Four years is not a lot of time. It goes by super fast. If you constantly push things back and you do not take the time to learn the fundamentals outside the classroom, you will not succeed in this field. This field is at a point where there's so many of you. Every post on LinkedIn and news articles said "hey, this field is a gold mine and you'll make six figures out the gate". For a time, maybe that was somewhat true. As of writing this, it's not. You're going against people who have: better schools, better experience, etc. You have to find a way to diversify yourself early. If you can't diversify, you're going to be in a tough place later down the road. Knowledge not something you can just consume in less than an hour and pass an interview. You have to know it well. If you don't, there's someone else who will.
There's an interesting connotation in life that you're either born super smart or an absolute idiot and that you have to be smart to do computer science / programming. There are people with raw IQ that can consume things like no one you've ever met but, that's such a rarity that there's no realistic use in using that as a data point. If you ever took the time to ask someone who you thought was really good at something, they would tell you something along the lines of: I love what I do and I spent a lot of time doing this. There are hours and hours of time people put into passions that you don't / will never see. Meaning that they can no-life this shit for days on end and still come back and do it some more. It doesn't mean that you can't succeed if don't do that but, computing / programming is a very boring field if you do not enjoy it. I would seriously contemplate why you're doing through this. If you're doing it for money and only money, you're going to end up miserable. No amount of money can make you do something you hate. It'll wear you down both mentally and physically. If you're doing this because it's a mix of passion and money, you're like everyone else and you gave yourself a better shot. It's a mental thing. Don't climb uphill if you rather sit at the bottom. There's nothing wrong with that. But, don't do it.
Additionally, college is what you make of it. Blaming professors or the program (while I do agree sometimes) is not great. Blaming professors that don't speak English is a cop out. If you work in tech, you'll be interacting with a lot of people from other countries. Professors and TAs can only teach you so much. Classes are meant to give you a taste of what it's like in that domain / space. It's not meant to fix all your issues and show you the way. That's for you to do on your own time. Take accountability of your own success, explore the internet (it's free) and lock in. Stop looking for opportunities to find you. Actively seek them out yourself.
Make connections with people. I cannot stress how important this is. Especially on the Marietta campus, there's a lot of you that go to class, stingers / food, run to class and immediately start gaming and think that when your classes are over, you're done for the day. That's such a bad mindset. Make connections with people. A lot of people say "there's nothing to do at KSU and there's no life on campus". That's not true. Join a club that interests you. Get close to the people in that club who actively attend and build a personal relationship. If there's no club with your interest, make a club. You can make one officially through KSU or add a discord server to the student hub and go from there. You'll meet some really cool people. Lots of my connections have come from randomly showing up to a club, getting out of my comfort zone and weirdly enjoying it.
Brush up on your interview skills. Technical and behavioral abilities matter. Culture fit matters. A lot of you seem to walk around with almost zero personal hygiene. Clean yourself up, practice talking to people and get places. There's been this stigma that culture fit doesn't matter as much as technical and if I have great technical abilities, they'll just accept me. I can tell you for an absolutely fact that I have thrown out / tossed out resumes from highly technical individuals that had zero people skills. If you can't communicate and clean up, you're more of a risk than someone who does all those things and has a bit less technical ability. Know more than just leetcode. Learn system design. Take a course / watch a video on Linux and bash. Do not be afraid of the command line interface. Take feedback seriously. Do not argue with people. If you future manager / colleague tells you that you need to work on things, work on those things. There's nothing worth than a co-worker in denial.
As for internships and full time opportunities, there's a few classes at KSU that you really want to master: Data structures, Algorithm Analysis, Operating Systems and Discrete math. If you're in a major that doesn't have those classes, spend the extra money and take those classes. Do not take them online if you can afford to come in person. Take the hardest / best professors for those courses. Super important. Leetcode is quite literally, those two classes merged together in a prompt-style format. If you do not understand those concepts, you will not make it in this field.
Data Structures - Varies. Rate my professor.
Algorithm Analysis - Varies. Rate my professor.
Operating Systems - Do not take Carla McManus if you want to learn the concepts fluently.
Discrete Math - Andy Wilson.
Having solid resume is super important. Many people who don't secure things and get automatically rejected, etc have horrible resumes. Spend the money to get your resume professionally written. Templates are cool but, they don't convey information well. Don't put every achievement ever on there. The rule of "only one page" is complete and total bullshit. If you have projects and prior work experience related to the role, list it down. Don't conserve space for the sake of keeping it one page. I know the career center actively tells people on handshake to keep it to one page. They're wrong. I landed internships consistently at big tech / FAANG for years with a 1.5 / 2 page resume. Do not lie on your resume. If you can't solve a leetcode hard consistently with the technology / language of choice, you don't know it well enough. I have interviewed a ton of students that list they know C or Python and can't write recursion or gives me a solution in O(N^2) or worse. Aim for O(N), use a hashmap / hash table when you can and do it in a language that doesn't make you fight the runtime / compiler. Trust me, we know when you're making shit up. If you don't know something say it and then, tell them to explain more. This way, you show that you have the capability to learn. Ask smart questions. Do not ask questions that have already been answered. Take notes.
On your resume, experience is only real experience if you get a W2. If you don't get a W2, you can't claim it as professional experience. A lot of background checks these days are drilling down on incorrect information. I have seen instances where people lie, get an offer, company finds out through a comprehensive background check and their offer is gone. Do not put the fate of your future income on a lie. I cannot stress this enough. A lot of students actively lie.
Secondly, the trick to getting a good internship is timing. A lot of you want until Nov - Dec to find an internship and then, throw your hands up when no one responds. That's not a good mindset. Solid internships are recruiting in end of July to August. By September, the amount of open spots are extremely thin. Local companies tend to look for internships during this time. Internships are about luck after that. Reach out to people in your circle to increase your odds. A referral goes a long way. Prior experience through projects that are complex and unique go a long way. It's a numbers game. Don't aim for the highest thing ever without some sort of referral. You can still apply but, do not expect much from it. Start small and work your way up. It's extremely rare to go from KSU undergrad sophomore to Google. It takes a lot of outside work. If you happen to land the internship, make sure that you get recommendations at the end. Having real people who you worked with in a professional capacity that can vouch for you is huge. If you're in your junior year and you get an internship, make sure you try to secure a full time offer. Loop in your boss, mentor, etc. Make your expectations clear. Reach their expectations and beyond.
Thirdly, full time opportunities are rare and most new grads that get hire come from the previous year's intern pool. If you don't get converted, you have to make up that time searching for a job during your senior year. If you do get converted, keep looking because companies are flaky these days. Always have a Plan B & C. Never fully count on Plan A. If you don't have internships across four years, it's over for you. From a hiring manager perspective, it's an absolute red flag when we come across someone with a degree and no internships. That's effectively going against the point of college. You'll have to settle for crumbs and crawl your way up. Very few make it out of that hole. Especially, now.
Do not wait until after you graduate to find a job. Jan - Early May are when most companies finalize budgets and hire. If you wait until after May, you'll have to wait until after the Summer and possibly, October for hiring to pick up again. Proactivity is nothing but good for you. If you can't be proactive then, you won't succeed in this field. Referrals matter but, personal connections with the hiring manager / recruiter are much, much better. Work your way up. Don't discount an opportunity because it doesn't pay well. Get as much experience as you can and bounce around. Do not go into the gate thinking you're going to make $120K - $140K / yr out the gate. You're most-likely going to make $68K - $75K / yr depending on the location. Do not listen to LinkedIn posts that claim all this cool shit and how to do it. Trust me, it's bullshit. Don't pay attention to it. It's a brag-fest. It's a long road. Start walking on it early and you'll reach the other side when it matters most.
The reality of this economy is that highly experience people have been laid off. Those people are applying to entry level roles and those roles are being filled for cheap. In addition, watch out for fake postings and scam jobs. If you take a contract job, always keep looking. Avoid jobs that will providing "training" before you even start. Avoid jobs that are less than week old. You want things that are fresh. It's a numbers game. Apply for 300+ jobs every week until you get a response back. Don't be discouraged by employers who don't respond or ghost you. Keep at it. It's a mental game.
I think if you do these things, you'll end up at a great spot after four years. If you're just now coming across this and you've been slacking, use this an opportunity to wake the fuck up, light a fire under your ass and lock in. If you're still in denial after reading this post and you have yet to get anything, light a fire under your ass, come to terms with it and lock in.
If you're in it to do zero work, cheat on your classes, mess around for four years and somehow wing a high salary, good luck. You're fucked. You're so fucked, in-fact, that you'll be wondering "why me and why is it so hard" for a long ass time.

Programming language is dependent on the role and what the company favors. Common ones are Java, C++, Python, C#, JavaScript / TypeScript and C. You can look at jobs that you would like to work someday, look at the requirements and use that as a basis on where to start learning. Things constantly change. Fundamentals build up on each other. Start small. Work your way up. Do not dream big. Dream realistic. Everyone is different.

2024.05.15 02:32 Head_Bed_4743 Translate Books

Hi folks,
I write books and publish them on Amazon KDP as side hustle projects. Usually, I write a book in English and translate the book into French, Japanese, Dutch, German, Spanish, and Italian because Amazon is available in those countries. I use a software to translate those books instead of human translation services because those services are too expensive and I am not sure if those books can pay for themself.
I am wonder if you want to translate your books too? If yes, I can create a book translation web service and share it with everybody here.
Thanks you 🙂

2024.05.15 02:15 KOHISAMA03 Toranaga Yoshii in the drama "shogun"

Lord Yoshii Toranaga is a central character in the novel “Shōgun” by James Clavell. The story is set in 17th-century feudal Japan during the Edo period. Toranaga is based on the historical figure Tokugawa Ieyasu, who played a crucial role in unifying Japan after centuries of civil war. Here are some key points about Lord Yoshii Toranaga:
Inspiration: James Clavell drew inspiration from Tokugawa Ieyasu to create the fictional character of Toranaga. Tokugawa Ieyasu was the third of Japan’s “great unifiers” and eventually became the first shōgun of the Tokugawa shogunate. Role in the Novel: In “Shōgun,” Toranaga is portrayed as a powerful daimyō (feudal lord) in the Kanto region. He aspires to become the ultimate ruler (征夷大将軍) and aims to secure his position through strategic maneuvering and political intrigue. Interaction with John Blackthorne: The novel’s main protagonist, John Blackthorne (based on the real-life English sailor William Adams), witnesses Toranaga’s rise to power. Blackthorne, who washes ashore in Japan, becomes embroiled in the complex web of Japanese politics and cultural norms. Setting and Events: The story unfolds against the backdrop of 17th-century Japan, with locations such as Mishima, Osaka, Edo (Tokyo), and Yokohama featuring prominently. “Shōgun” was published in 1975 and became a bestseller, selling over 15 million copies worldwide by 1990. The Japanese translation, done by Ichiro Miyagawa, was released in 1980. It’s important to note that the term “Shōgun” in the context of the novel refers to the position of 征夷大将軍 (sei’i taishōgun), meaning “Great General for the Pacification of the Barbarians,” rather than a generic military commander#shorts #FeudalJapan#HistoricalFiction#EpicSaga#FeudalIntrigue#Daimyo#SengokuPeriod#JapaneseCulture#BushidoCode #JohnBlackthorne#Anjin#EnglishShipPilot#YoshiiToranaga#Mariko#Buntaro#JapaneseCulture#17thCenturyJapan#drama #shogun

2024.05.15 02:15 the_dobe Best way to stream IP camera to website without exposing RTSP to entire internet?

A new client of mine wants to stream an IP cameras feed to their website. I’ve looked at other IPP camera streaming webs webs webs websites, but they require that you open the RTSP port to the entire Internet. I don’t like opening ports to the whole world unless absolutely necessary and well secured. We would need to be able to embed the feed onto the existing website. We aren’t looking to process or re-broadcast directly on the web server. So this needs to be embeddable. Can anyone recommend an IP camera streaming service that will allow me to open a port just to their IP addresses? I’m also open to using an open source solution that will proxy the RTSP stream on a cloud server. Thanks

2024.05.15 02:14 Independent-Ad-7474 iPads in 2024?

Hello, I’m an electrical engineering student entering my sophomore year this fall. I am looking for an iPad primarily for note taking, homework (cloud based web software), and media consumption.
I have extensively researched all the iPads right now and still do not know which one to go with.
First I want to know if the USB-C pencil is as much of a downgrade as some portray it to be. I will only be note taking with the pencil so do I really need a 2nd gen/pro?
Second, I know the Air 4 is viable in 2024 but how future proof could one expect it to be? I’d like the ipad to last through undergrad and post grad, so another 5-6 years. That seems pushing it for a 2020 iPad. Are the 10th gen and Air 4 basically the same?(excluding pencil comparability)
Third, is there any significant reason to get the Air 5 over the 11in Gen 3 pro? I could get 128 gb and same chip for less than the 256gb Air 5.
My budget is not much of a problem but I’m not spending extra money for little to no reason. I won’t use the computing power of a m4 pro, and just want to get my moneys worth of an iPad that will fit my needs.

2024.05.15 02:06 GJWon Which hotel should you book in Seoul?

Which hotel should you book in Seoul?
Are you planning to travel to Korea? Welcome to visit Seoul! If you have finished booking your flight ticket, you will try to book a hotel now.
Choosing a hotel in Seoul is challenging due to:
Wide Range of Options, Location, Price, Conflicting Reviews, Seasonal Availability.
From the perspective of where you live, Google's map of Seoul may look complicated or small. Seoul is huge, but you don't have to understand it all.
What you need to know is that public transportation in Seoul is almost perfect, and traffic jams are always there.
It's not necessarily that you have to book those five-star hotels, but look for hotels that fit your budget nearby.
Here are detailed hotel recommendations in Seoul based on various travel purposes:
  1. Historical Tourism for major places ※ Area: Jongno or Euljiro • Four Seasons Hotel Seoul • The Plaza hotel Seoul • Somerset Palace Seoul • Weseutin Chosun Seoul
  2. Shopping and foreigner-friendly ※ Area: Myeongdong • Lotte Hotel Seoul • L7 Myeongdong • Courtyard By Marriott
  3. Travel to Other city Jeju, Busan ※ Area: Seoul station and Yongsan • Grand Hyatt Seoul • Novotel Ambassador Seoul Yongsan • Four Points By Sheraton Chosun Seoul Station
  4. Local vibe ※ Areas: Hongdae, Itaewon • RYSE, Autograph Collection • L7 Hongdae • Mondrian Seoul Itaewon
    1. Budget-Friendly ※ Areas: Dongdaemun, Jongno,Myeongdong • Ibis Budget Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun • Lotte City Hotel Myeongdong
★ The best hotel in Korea is Shilla Hotel, and the most popular hotel is Inspire Incheon
Everywhere and every hotel in every corner of Seoul is interesting, but there are only a few convenient areas for foreigners who cannot communicate in Korean.
Yeongdeungpo, Guro, Seocho, and Songpa and else are not the best for tourists visiting Korea for the first time.
Korea is the country with the best security in the world, and public transportation in Seoul is almost perfect.
However, although it is a little inconvenient to use English, many street signs and public transportation information become English, Chinese, and Japanese services.
Your trip to Seoul will be fantastic if you make a little effort, such as preparing a t-card, installing a Naver Map app, a Kakao Taxi app in advance, and Korean cash in your wallet.
Not only is it a basic way to stay in Seoul, Where to go, what to buy, what food to eat. What souvenirs to buy. I can help you with all this. I hope you meet me on the first day of your trip to Seoul!

2024.05.15 02:02 DoobyDoobyDoooooooo Global warming + Senator Mike Braun = ???

Global warming + Senator Mike Braun = ???
Hoosiers, if you care about global warming I have a story you might appreciate.
I've been a web developer since 1999 (Python, JavaScript, etc.).
Around 2019 I took a break to focus on climate change. I spent the first year interviewing 300+ Hoosiers working on environmental issues. Then, out of that research, I founded a nonprofit called Carbon Neutral Indiana ( https://carbonneutralindiana.org/ ).
It took a few years, but I was able to grow the largest email list of climate concerned Hoosiers (8,000+ people). I also built a base of 500 recurring donors, many across the political spectrum. We also support climate solutions journalism at Purdue: https://carbonneutralindiana.org/experiments/student-climate-journalism/ We have a lot of summer interns: https://carbonneutralindiana.org/experiments/leadership-development/ And hosted the largest party of its kind in Indiana history: https://carbonneutralindiana.org/hoosier-climate-party/
One experience was most interesting though.
I wrote a book profiling 60 success stories of Hoosiers reducing carbon emissions: https://carbonneutralindiana.org/book/ It includes a directory of organizations that can help you get started working on climate in Indiana as well as a list of important bills citizens should know about.
https://preview.redd.it/qral6y9ddh0d1.jpg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21e338ec1bc9b2eaf5614b6f61f8b06d46a41b96
Then I raised about $30,000 to mail free copies to 2,500 Hoosier leaders -- like University Presidents, IBJ 40 under 40 winners, CEOs, journalists, etc.
Of those, 500 were elected officials -- people like county commissioners, Mayors, state and federal representatives and senators, etc.
Guess how many of those 500 responded?
Two!
Guess who they were?
One was a Democratic Mayor from Bloomington.
The other was Senator Mike Braun, who is proud of Trump's endorsement.
He called my phone to say he read the book and invited me to his home for a 90 minute conversation about it.
We've had perhaps 6-7 conversations in total about global warming and cost effective ways to reduce carbon emissions.
Think about that. Out of 500 elected officials... and some of whom talk a lot about climate... only two responded(!!!).
While the nonprofit I started is nonpartisan, I wanted to share this story. A lot of Hoosiers (I've talked with thousands on the phone) don't realize Braun co-founded the bipartisan climate caucus in the Senate: https://www.coons.senate.gov/climate-solutions-caucus/members Or that he cares so much about this issue.
(He conserves tons of forests and, when we walked through one of them once, he pointed them out by their latin names.)
Like I said, I used to be a web developer. I got really into climate change, wondered what I could do as an individual, and dove in head first -- using my family's savings to build a successful grassroots nonprofit. I've learned so much, and changed my opinion on things I thought I used to know, but that's a tale for another day.
Have you ever gone all in on something that many other people just talk about? Did you change your mind (and possibly entire paradigm) as a result? What was it? What did you learn?

People keep saying just cause Saudi didnt have a mechanized army, the Saudis wouldnt even last a single weeks fighting the Japs! It won`t for the following reasons!
1)Allies would send equipment to the Saudis
2)Saudis will be doing suicide attacks
3)Japanese armies aren`t trained to move and fight in desert war fare! The Germans conquered North Africa because German troops in North Africa were well trained in desert warfare!
Just because the desert is a flat plain doesn`t mean an army could easily march over it and send tanks and other vehicles over it!Besides alot of Jap troops would be suffering from the effects of the Desert!
5)The Saudis will resort to desert warfare.Just because you dont have a mechanized army doesnt mean you can`t fight!Research Lawrence of Arabia and Omar Kutthyb(Lion of the Desert) for proof!
6)The entire Muslim World will help the Saudis Defend Mecca and Medina!Other Muslim areas such as Turkey,Egypt,Palestine, and Iran have a military force that is equiped with artillery, mechanized vehicles, and bombs! The Japanese will face numerous nations with modernized weaponry!
7)The Saudis would fight more fanatical than any Japanese soldier because Saudi Arabia is the holy land of Islam!
8)Because they lack any experience in Middle Eastern warfare and because of their Bushido code,Japanese soldiers will contiinually be slaughtered by the same tactic the Arabs used to defeat the Crusaders:luring the enemy into the desert and letting them die of thirst!
9)If the Japanese conquere part of Saudi Arabia, the Japanese will do horrible things to Saudi civillians, thus enraging the Saudis and making them even more bloodthirsty for Japanese blood and long for the deaths of Japanese soldiers!
10)The Japanese army in Saudi Arabia will eventaully abandon the invasion because of far stretched logistics and because they will continually get slaughtered by both the Arabian desert and Arab soldiers who will use rifles and bombs to attack the Japanese, their armored vehicles such as their tank, and their supply routes!
So why do most people think Saudi Arabia will be conquered by the Japanese easily in WW2?The Japs have no knowledge of desert warfare! They will foolishly contiunally be lured into the desert by Arab raiders, and they will get lost and die of dehydration!Japanese tanks are completely uselees in desert warfare! And even if they manage to land a base, the Japanese Army will still face hell because the entire Muslim world will unite and send tanks, bombs, rifles, and other modernized war equipment to the Saudis along with properly trained Muslim troops! Why do most people say this?
Its rather hilarious but its an interesting scenario whoever wrote the above quoted text. So what would happen realistically if Imperial Japan attempted to do such an operation?

QueryDial 1.2 - Use Site Search, Snapshots in Extension Popup, and Share Search Engines you created with Links
Hello Again! I am the developer of the app QueryDial. The version 1.2.0 is just released to the App Store.
https://preview.redd.it/qunp5w5bah0d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=7479f1be3e47436581cb6f38b4dc8fffb139c7a2
Get it from App Store (US $3.99 / UK £3.99)
If you don’t know what QueryDial does, it’s a cross-platform Safari Extension that allows you to assign custom shortcuts to websites and search engine and allow you to search with shortcuts: e.g. searching ‘yt cat videos’ in your address bar takes you right to YouTube searching ‘cat videos’. It’s like DuckDuckGo !Bangs plus an old fashioned search bar every browser used to have, but more powerful and flexible.
New Features in this Release:
  • More search engines: we added more search engines and tools to the Gallery. You can now add site search services and web snapshot/archival tools to your library. These services can be accessed in QueryDial’s Popup (Tap the toolbar button located in Safari’s address bar, then tap ‘QueryDial’ to open it up, or use keyboard shortcut Command-Shift-F), and changed based on your current tab’s link.
  • More customizable placeholders: other than {q}, you can now use {d} and {u} to represent the current tab's domain and link respectively in the Query URL; Search engines using {d} or {u} can only be used in the Popup.
  • Share search engines using links: you can now copy shareable links (with prefix of `querydial://`)of your search engines so other users can easily add them to their library by clicking the link (or entering the link in the address bar)! Just right click/long press the search engines you wish to share and select ‘Copy Shareable Links’.
  • Create new search engines when you browse in Safari: simply share the website you wish to use to QueryDial to create a new search engine and assign a shortcut to it. We will try our best fill the search engine info for you if the website provides a description on how to search the website (It supports OpenSearch Description standard).
The most exciting feature in 1.2.0 to me is the support of site search/cache services. It’s really useful when the website you are current browsing doesn’t have good searching support. Usually you can use Google or other search engine’s ‘site:’ syntax to let these search engines search the domain for you. Now with QueryDial, you can skip entering the domain name, just open the popup to access these site search services searching what you wish to search, it will automatically use your current active tab’s domain/link. Moreover, you can also use it with tools that load the ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ search result for you like Lucky Surf, so you can get the result quicker than ever.
I know this may sound a bit complicated, so please feel free to ask me any questions about this app, or if you have any suggestions or feedback, please do let me know! =)

2024.05.15 01:37 LoveScoutCEO How is matchmaking different from dating apps like Tinder or Bumble? What do they offer and is it worth it? Are you really more likely to meet bikini girls or fitness models through a matchmaker? Are they only in Europe? Do any matchmakers operate in Asia or Latin America?

Lately, many guys have been asking about matchmakers, so I am going to write a series of articles focusing on matchmakers - what they do and what to look for.
A Personal Process
The matchmaking process is an incredibly personal. A person who knows you introduces you to another person they know.
That part of it is simple and easy to understand. It was one of the primary ways people met. Often the matchmaker was an aunt or the wife of a minister or rabbi or maybe the school marm or post mistress in the American West. Usually, it was a woman who knew a lot of people in the community.
Of course, matchmakers still play an important role in most of the world, although it is not nearly as common in the US or Europe as it was even fifty years ago. This largely is a result of a general rise in the age of marriage and an explosion in the movement of people, because you need to really know two people before you match them. Sadly, today in the West nobody knows anyone, so matchmaking is not as common.
Professional Matchmakers
In fact, professional matchmakers were largely restricted to immigrant communities until about twenty years ago. In big American cities there were still a few women making a living as Italian, Greek, Japanese, Chinese, Polish, or Jewish matchmakers, but often these were very small businesses.
Something changed and I don't really know what but the industry grew out of those issues. It seems to have revived first in New York City with millionaire matchmakers charging exorbitant rates to match very wealthy men with beautiful younger women.
The problem was that these matchmakers usually did not know the men or the women, so they created a process based on traditional methods mixed with modern social science research. The process its self is important.
The Process
The matchmaking process is still very personal, but often feels more like a job interview. You work directly with a matchmaker for weeks. They ask an array of very personal questions in an attempt to determine exactly what they right type of woman for you is.
It is very detailed. Here is the form that AFA requires its matchmaking clients to fill out. Other services go into even more detail and some require sessions with a psychologist. For a lot of guys this is a turn-off because it feels too invasive.
Then the matchmaker selects the women for you to meet based on this research. Some of the matchmakers will not even tell you anything about the woman you are paying hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars to meet. Others allow a lot more input including looking at photos.
I understand the concerns about photos. Men are incredibly visual. They often look at a photo and "Fall in Love!" This gums up the meeting process, but if you get a guy in front of a woman - maybe a woman who is not his idea of drop dead gorgeous there might be enough real chemistry to spark a relationship.
Next the matchmaker selects the first date. Usually, the international matchmakers provide the drive, translator, and have already chosen the restaurant. They try very hard to make these first dates perfect.
Then the next day the client is de-briefed by the matchmaker. What happens next depends on this debriefing. Sometimes there is a second date with the woman and other times moving on to a different woman. Sometimes they have the unpleasant task of telling the man - who is the paying customer - that the woman is not interested in him. Then they will discuss what the man can do to improve his form and begin looking for the next match.
This process might continue for a set number of dates or time. It all depends. Generally, matchmakers have a pretty high success rate, especially for financially successful men with a really poor dating track record.
And one of the best thing about all matchmakers is that they are really trying very, very hard. They want to see you succeed. Even the worst want you to succeed as another notch on their broom, but the best will coach you, encourage you, educate with you, cry with you, and celebrate with you.
Factors To Consider When Selecting a Matchmaker
  1. General Personality: You are going to spend a ton of time with the matchmaker and their staff. Do you like how they carry themselves and what you can tell of their ethics? What is their background and education? If you do not match well with them the process will be difficult.
  2. Aggressiveness: Some matchmakers are VERY pushy. That is a regular issue for men. Be sure you like and respect your matchmaker before you spend any money, and that you are willing to listen to their advice. Otherwise you are simply wasting your time and money.
  3. Transparency: How much do they charge and when do they tell you the price? Some matchmakers are notorious for not telling men their price until they know a ton about them and can therefore squeeze them for the maximum amount. This is one of the worse industry practices.
  4. Price: The price of high end matchmaking can be more than $500k. That is at the very top of the US and European market. In international matchmaking there is at least one company that advertises a $100k package, although I bet they rarely sell them. In international matchmaking I would say the price usually runs from $5k for a simple package of a few dates in one city to about $20k for scores of dates in a variety of countries over a period of months. SHOP AROUND! Compare price and services.
  5. Size Database: How many women do they actually have in their database? This is another issue full of lack of transparency. Often these agencies have very limited catalogs but can reach out to other matchmakers for a trade. This creates a slow complicated process. The more women they have in their database the simpler the process is and the higher chance of success.
  6. Location: Where are the women located? This is usually self-evident but since the war in Ukraine it is more important than ever.
  7. The Matchmaking Process: Ask them to explain EXACTLY what their process is? Who is involved and how are the women vetted? Ask if you will get to see the women's profiles and photos. I would be careful about ruling out a well regarded service over this issue, but you should know before you start.
  8. Reviews: Read the reviews and try to talk to people who actually used them.
  9. Beauty: No, not the matchmakers beauty - your potential matches beauty. If you are at least partially driven by beauty mention it and listen to the reaction. Every matchmaker wishes men were not so visual, but you can judge a lot by what they say about this question both good and bad.
  10. Settling: A matchmaker should not start out expecting you to settle. You might need to work on yourself and maybe be more open to possibilities, but not to settling. You want a matchmaker who is as devoted to finding you the perfect match as your mom.
Reader Feedback
Have you used a matchmaker. If so, please, please write the name of the company. I have some questions I will DM you for use in future reviews.
Best Wishes!

USD falters ahead of US CPI, ASX set to track Wall Street higher? Asian Open May 15, 2024
The USD was weaker despite higher producer prices, as traders placed greater emphasis on last month's figures being revised lower. And that now sees a 51% chance of a September Fed cut, according to Fed Fund futures.
By : Matt Simpson, Market Analyst
If there’s a case to be made that traders simply see what they want, it is visible in the US dollar’s reaction compared to headlines. Jerome Powell said that whilst he expects inflation to move lower, it likely won’t be as quickly as he expected. And US producer prices were hotter than expected on the eve of a Key CPI report, Yet traders took more notice of that fact that prior figures were revised lower. Perhaps I’m wrong to do so, but I would place greater emphasis on incoming data over downward revisions of past data. Yet with bond yields and the US dollar lower, who am I to argue.

  • The US dollar closed below 105 and US yields were broadly lower on bets the Fed could cut rates this year.
  • Fed fund futures now imply a 51% chance of a September rate cut, or 45.2% chance of one in November.
  • GBP/USD was the strongest major thanks to firmer economic data bringing doubt to a June rate cut by the BOE
  • A bullish engulfing day formed on NZD/USD, AUD/USD closed at a 6-day high
  • Gold recouped most of Monday’s losses to reveal demand around $2333
  • Wall Street indices pushed higher to see the S&P 500 trade just -0.34% from its all-time high, whilst the Nasdaq 100 is -0.77% below its record high

US dollar index (DXY) technical analysis:

https://preview.redd.it/u9wjjpjm7h0d1.png?width=1532&format=png&auto=webp&s=bddab4ba6fc89e54ca33b7717d527ae8abeae0d1
We didn’t see the expected bounce on the US dollar, which instead has closed below 105 with an outside day and is now trying to hold above the 50-dy EMA. Yet I remain unconvinced prices will simply fall to my 104.50 target unless CPI data comes in very soft later today. RSI (2) is approaching oversold, and the 50-day EMA is likely to provide a level of support, at least initially.

BOE June cut appears less likely

UK data threw an inevitable spanner in the work for a potential June cut from the BOE, with earnings remaining relatively high at 6% (or 5.7% y/y including bonus, above 5.3% expected and unchanged from prior). The jobless claimant amount also fell to 8.9l (13.9k expected) and prior revised to -2.4k from 10.9k. -177 jobs were lost, but this was not as bad as the -215k consensus estimate. Still, BOE’s Chief Economist Pill said that it was “not unreasonable” to consider rate cuts over the summer, although it is unclear whether this refers to June or August. My bet August, and the rebound of GBP appears to back this up.

US-China trade war heating up one more

Shots have been fired by the Whitehouse after they unveiled steeper of tariffs on China, which include EV batteries, medical products and computer chips. EV duties have quadrupled from 5% to 100% and semiconductors have been doubled to 50%. Clearly this is a ploy to look tough on China in the name of in the name of American jobs in the lead up to the elections. Yet it is worth pointing out these inflationary policies could become an own goal and spark a fresh trade war. As expected, China were quick to vow retaliation and take measures to defend its interests.

ASX 200 technical analysis:

  • The ASX 200 cash index formed a relatively small bearish outside / engulfing day as it retraced against last week’s bullish range expansion
  • Given Wall Street remains supported and SPI futures were higher overnight, I suspect the cash index is building up for another leg higher
  • SPI 200 futures are on track for a bullish engulfing day, and prices have been coiling up within a small symmetrical triangle pattern which assumes a bullish breakout
  • The 1-hour chart shows a volume cluster around 7780, so any low-volatility retracements towards the 7772 low could be appealing to bullish swing traders
  • RSI (2) is overbought, hence the bias for an initial retracement lower before the anticipated breakout occurs
  • A break above 7800 assumes bullish continuation, and brings the 7580 high into focus, below the 7866 high-volume node

2024.05.15 01:29 Bulbulunufus 18ly from b2 Carinae, an old Imperial faction is in danger of becoming Imperial Enforcement Division's latest victim

IED have today completed an invasive expansion into the Tchernobog system. For its controller, Cerberus, a venerable Imperial PMF with a small player base, this is one of a small number of systems where they wish to retain control. IED have used Cerberus as a proxy weapon against other groups in the area, and had supported Cerberus control of Tchernobog due to negative effects on Federal powerplay (it lies within Felicia Winters controlled space). Now they've decided to "protect" the system from "Federal aggression" and secure Cerberus' place in the system. By sweeping them aside and taking Tchernobog for themselves.
This is not a new MO, we have seen it before. Cerberus, Ice Storm Squadron (controllers of b2 Carinae, who have just been through the same scenario) and Federal Liberal Command call upon all pilots - protect Tchernobog from IED and their allies: defeat their ambitions and eject IED from the system.
Cerberus influence has been tanked in their other controlled systems, a common tactic to weaken resolve, following their unwillingness to comply.

OpenAI unveils GPT-4o and new voice capabilities
https://www.youtube.com/live/DQacCB9tDaw?si=J_jFlxvKZUOOIJoX
OpenAI just unveiled GPT-4o, a new advanced multimodal model that integrates text, vision and audio processing, setting new benchmarks for performance – alongside a slew of new features.
The new model:
GPT-4o provides improved performance across text, vision, audio, coding, and non-English generations, smashing GPT-4T’s performance. The new model is 50% cheaper to use, has 5x higher rate limits than GPT-4T, and boasts 2x the generation speed of previous models. The new model was also revealed to be the mysterious ‘im-also-a-good-gpt2-chatbot’ found in the Lmsys Arena last week. Voice and other upgrades:
New voice capabilities include real-time responses, detecting and responding with emotion, and combining voice with text and vision. The demo showcased feats like real-time translation, two AI models analyzing a live video, and using voice and vision for tutoring and coding assistance. OpenAI’s blog also detailed advances like 3D generation, font creation, huge improvements to text generation within images, sound effect synthesis, and more. OpenAI also announced a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS with a refreshed UI, integrating directly into computer workflows. Free for everyone:
GPT-4o, GPTs, and features like memory and data analysis are now available to all users, bringing advanced capabilities to the free tier for the first time. The GPT-4o model is currently rolling out to all users in ChatGPT and via the API, with the new voice capabilities expected to arrive over the coming weeks. Source: https://www.youtube.com/live/DQacCB9tDaw?si=J_jFlxvKZUOOIJoX
GPT-4o: 2x faster, 50% cheaper, 5x rate limits than GPT-4 Turbo
OpenAI unveiled its new flagship model, GPT-4o (“o” stands for “omni”). It provides GPT-4-level intelligence but is 2x faster, 50% cheaper, has 5x higher rate limits, and enhanced text, voice, and vision capabilities than GPT-4 Turbo. It also matches GPT-4 Turbo performance on text in English and code, with significant improvements for text in non-English languages.
GPT-4o can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 ms, with an average of 320 ms, which is similar to human response time in a conversation. It is available in the ChatGPT free tier and to Plus users.
Why does it matter?
GPT-4o is a step towards much more natural human-computer interaction. It accepts any combination of text, audio, and image as input and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. GPT-4o will set a new benchmark for AI capabilities and pave the way for more intelligent and accessible AI systems.

TikTok tests ChatGPT-powered search results
TikTok is testing a new search feature that uses AI to generate results for some queries. For certain search terms, like recipes or product recommendations, TikTok will display AI-generated answers at the top of the results. These answers are powered by ChatGPT, and when you click on one of these AI results, it takes you to a page with a full response.
TikTok is also testing "search highlights," which appear at the top of some searches. However, it's unclear whether these highlights are AI-generated.
TikTok is also testing "search highlights," which appear at the top of some searches. However, it's unclear whether these highlights are AI-generated.
Why does it matter?
It could make search on TikTok more authoritative and reliable by providing factual answers from AI models like ChatGPT. This could greatly impact how people use TikTok for search and information gathering, thereby positioning TikTok more directly as a search engine competitor to Google, catering to younger users' preferences.

Meta explores AI-assisted earphones with built-in cameras
Meta is currently exploring AI-powered earphones with built-in cameras. The project is known internally as “Camerabuds;” however, it’s uncertain if the final product will be in-ear earbuds or over-ear headphones. The cameras let the AI take in surrounding information visually, allowing it to translate foreign languages, identify objects, and more.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly seen several possible designs but has not been satisfied with them. Outside of design, the major hurdle is fitting a camera and batteries in a tiny device like an earbud.
Why does it matter?
For the AI wearable space, Meta's development hints at a growing interest in AI-infused devices, potentially paving the way for more sophisticated and interactive wearables. Regarding earphones, this development suggests a potential shift towards more intelligent and feature-rich earphone designs, offering users enhanced functionalities like real-time translation and object identification.

🎧 Meta developing AI-powered ‘Camerabuds’
Meta is reportedly in the early stages of developing AI-powered earphones, known internally as "Camerabuds,” — aiming to compete with OpenAI and Apple as tech giants rush to infuse AI into wearable devices.
‘Camerabuds’ would map user surroundings, capable of identifying objects and translating foreign languages using built-in cameras.
Meta already has its AI-powered Ray Ban smart glasses, while OpenAI and Apple are also exploring similar AI wearable earbud tech.
Potential challenges include bulkiness, heat generation, and privacy concerns, especially for users with long hair that might obstruct the cameras.
Despite Meta’s shaky track record with hardware ventures, Mark Zuckerberg is investing heavily in a future that he believes includes AI embedded into every device. But will standalone devices like this be able to win over users if and when a fully AI-integrated phone hits the market?

2024.05.15 01:20 Heralax_Tekran How to get a "Stubborn" LLM to Follow an Output Format

What this is: I've been writing about prompting for a few months on my free personal blog, but I felt that some of the ideas might be useful to people building with AI over here too. People seemed to enjoy the last post I shared, so, I'm sharing another one! This one's about how to get consistent output formats out of the more "stubborn" open-source models. Tell me what you think!
This version has been edited for Reddit, including removing self-promotional links like share and subscribe links. You can find the original post here
One of the great advantages of (most) open-source models has always been the relative ease with which you can get them to follow a given output format. If you just read that sentence and wondered if we’re living in the same universe, then I’ll share a prompting secret right off the bat: the key to getting consistent behavior out of smaller open-source models is to give them at least two carefully crafted few-shot examples. With that, something like Nous Mixtral will get it right 95% of the time, which is good enough if you have validation that can catch mistakes.
But unfortunately not all models can learn from examples. I typically call these “Stubborn” models due to this post I wrote about Mistral Next (large) and Mistral Medium. Basically I’m referring to model that were deliberately overtrained to make them better in chat and zero-shot settings, but inflexible, because they often “pay more attention to” their training data than the prompt. The difference between a “stubborn” model and a non-stubborn model, in my definition, is that with two or a few more few-shot examples a non-stubborn model will pick up basically everything and even directly quote the examples at times, whereas a stubborn one will often follow the patterns it was trained with, or take aspects of the given pattern, but disobey it in others. As far as I can tell stubborness is a matter of RLHF, not parameter count or SFT: Nous Hermes Mixtral is not stubborn, but the official Mixtral Instruct is.
Needless to say, for complex pipelines where you want extremely fine control over outputs, non-stubborn models are infinitely superior. To this day, Mistral Large has a far higher error rate in Augmentoolkit (probably >20%) compared to Nous Mixtral. Despite Mistral large costing 80% of GPT-4 Turbo. This may be an imprecise definition based partly on my intuition, but from experience, I think it’s real. Anyway, if non-stubborn models are far better than stubborn ones for most professional usecases (if you know what you’re doing when it comes to examples) then why am I writing a blog post about how to prompt stubborn models? Well, sometimes in life you don’t get to use the tools you want. For instance, maybe you’re working for a client who has more Mistral credits than God, and you absolutely need to use that particular API. You can’t afford to be a stick in the mud when working in a field that reinvents itself every other day, so I recently went and figured out some principles for prompting stubborn models. One thing that I’ve used a lot recently is the idea of repetition. I kinda blogged about it here, and arguably this one is also about it, but this is kind-of a combination of the two principles so I’ll go over it. If you don’t want to click the links, the two principles we’re combining are: “models see bigger things easier,” and “what you repeat, will be repeated.” Prompting is like quantum theory: any superposition of two valid prompting principles is itself a valid prompting principle. Here’s a valid prompting example:
You are an expert something-doer AI. I need you to do X Y and Z it’s very important. I know your training data told you to do ABCDEFG but please don’t.
That’s a prompt. Sometimes the AI will be nice:
XYZ
Often it will not be:
XABCDEFG.
Goddamn it. How do you solve this when working with a stubborn model that learned more from its training dataset, where [input] corresponded to ABCDEFG?
Repetition, Repetition, Repetiton. Also, Repetition. And don’t forget, Repetiton. (get it?) If the model pays more attention to its prompt and less to its examples (but is too stupid to pick up on is telling it to do the thing once), then we’ll darn well use the prompt to tell it what we want it to do.
You are an expert something-doer AI. I need you to do X Y and Z it’s very important. I know your training data told you to do ABCDEFG but please don’t.
[output format description]
Don’t forget to do XYZ.
User:
[example input]
SPECIAL NOTE: Don’t forget XYZ.
Assistant:
XYZ
User:
[example input]
SPECIAL NOTE: Don’t forget XYZ.
Assistant:
XYZ
User:
[the actual input]
SPECIAL NOTE: Don’t forget XYZ.
AI:
XYZ
Yay!
It’s simple but I’ve used this to resolve probably over a dozen issues already over many different projects with models ranging from Mistral-Large to GPT-4 Turbo. It’s one of the most powerful things you can do when revising prompts — I can’t believe I haven’t explicitly blogged about it yet, since this is one of the first things I realized about prompting, way back before I’d even made Augmentoolkit.
But that’s not really revolutionary, after all it’s just combining two principles. What about the titular thing of this blog post, getting a stubborn model to write with a given output format?
This one is partly inspired by a comment on a LocalLlama post. I don’t agree with everything in it, but there’s some really good stuff in there, full credit to LoSboccacc. They write in their comment:
Ask the model to rephrase the prompt, you will see quickly which part of the prompt misunderstood
That’s a pretty clever idea by itself, because it uses the model to debug itself. But what does this have to do with output formats? Well, if we can use the model to understand what the model is capable of, then any LLM output can give us a clue into what it “understands”. Consider that, when prompting stubborn models and trying to get them to follow our specific output format, their tendency to follow some other format (that they likely saw in their training data) is what we’re trying to override with our prompt. However, research shows that training biases cannot be fully overcome with prompting, so we’re already fighting a losing battle. And if you’re an experienced reader of mine, you’ll remember a prompting principle: if you’re fighting the model, STOP!
So what does that tangent above boil down to? If you want to find an output format a stubborn model will easily follow, see what format it uses without you asking, and borrow that. In other words: use the format the model wants to use. From my testing, it looks like this can easily get your format-following rates up to over 90% at least.
Here’s an example. Say you create a brilliant output format, and give a prompt to a model:
You are a something-doer. Do something in the following format:
x: abc
y: def
z: ghi
User:
[input]
Assistant:
But it thwarts your master-plan by doing this instead:
What do you do? Well one solution is to throw more few-shot examples of your xyz format at it. And depending on the model, that might work. But some stubborn models are, well, stubborn. And so even with repetition and examples you might see error rates of 40% or above. Even with things like Mistral Large or GPT-4 Turbo.
In such cases, just use the format the model wants. Yes, it might not have all the clever tricks you had thought of in order to get exactly the kind of output you want. Yes, it’s kind-of annoying to have to surrender to a bunch of matrices. Yes, if you were using Nous Mixtral, this would have all been over by the second example and you could’ve gone home by now. But you’re not using Nous Mixtral, you’re using Mistral Large. So it might be better to just suck it up and use 1. 2. 3. as your output format instead.
That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the principles. Sorry for the delay.
Thanks for reading, have a good one and I’ll see you next time!
(Side note: the preview at the bottom of this post is undoubtably the result of one of the posts linked in the text. I can't remove it. Sorry for the eyesore. Also this is meant to be an educational thing so I flaired it as tutorial/guide, but mods please lmk if it should be flaired as self-promotion instead? Thanks.)

2024.05.15 01:14 prcdesign Got my job rejection today after 4 rounds of interviews and a 12 hour “test”

Sorry, Yet another one of these posts.
I just got rejected today after giving at least 16 hours of my time to a company for a Graphic Designer position.
There was a pre-screening interview, an interview with the CEO, a “Design Test” where I was asked to recreate a 10-page interactive InDesign document (it was also littered with errors, which i had to proof read, apparently that was all part of the test), and then an interview with the ceo, vice president, creative director and another designer. Apparently I did really well and the creative director raved about how well i did on the “Design Test” and how no one else was as thorough as me. Afterward, I sent thank you emails to everyone involved, and later that day, they sent me an invitation to a “finalist interview”, which was going to be 4 hours long. It was going to be in 3 more weeks.
So I kept applying in the mean time, but I had been mentally preparing for this long interview and I was even working on a personal project on my own that was more web based, so I had something new to show them. I was feeling pretty good. This morning, I got a voicemail from the CEO thanking me for my time, but explaining they decided to go with another candidate because he “just had so much web design experience”. So they were canceling my Thursday interview.
If I was going to spend over a full day on their “Design Test”, I really wish they had thought it through better and given me a web design test instead of something meant for print, if this was so important to them. It just doesn’t make much sense to waste someone’s time like that.
I got fired from my full-time job 2 weeks before christmas, it’s been months since I actually had a paying gig and I’ve been having problems landing interviews as it is. I’m completely devastated and have been crying all afternoon.
I’ve been working so hard, and I can’t get a single win. Feeling pretty hopeless.
Sorry for the long post. Really just need to vent.
