Walmart, which remains America’s largest employer despite Amazon’s rise to the status of world’s largest online seller, announced on May 14 that it will let go hundreds of its corporate staff and require the majority of those of its 1.6 million employees working remotely to return to the office, some four years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
... Nevertheless, no one should imagine that Walmart is tightening its belt out of being faced with lean times. Its new personnel decision means that most Walmart employees in Dallas, Atlanta, and even Toronto will be required to relocate to Bentonville, Arkansas, the firm’s birthplace and headquarters, where a 350-acre complex is being constructed featuring a child care center, a hotel, a 360,000-square-foot health center and gym, a dining hall, and a 37-mile walking-and-biking trail.
But some 82 percent of American workers said during the lockdowns that after the pandemic they wanted to work remotely at least once a week, preferably half the time, while only 8 percent didn’t wish to work at home frequently; 19 percent wanted to work at home all the time, according to a survey of 1,100 by the Global Workplace Analytics consulting firm.
Further findings show that if not permitted to work from home after the pandemic, 54 percent would remain with that employer but would be less willing to “walk the extra mile,” while 46 percent would seek another job, according to a 2020 survey by Massachusetts-based videoconferencing firm Owl Labs. In 2016, Gallup found that 35 percent of employees would be willing to change jobs in order to work from home full time, 37 percent if it was to work remotely some of the time. Owl Labs found in 2019 that more than a third of workers would take a pay cut of 5 percent to work from home some of the time while a quarter would take a 10 percent pay cut and 20 percent of employees would take an even bigger reduction in salary. Employers oftentimes may only be hurting themselves by denying their employees’ strong, justifiable preference to work remotely.

Interesting because the Epoch Times is an explicitly right wing, free enterprise friendly newsroom.

Just venting here, and maybe saving someone else some time and frustration.
So, I ordered a putter head cover and grip from the Ping website over a month ago - both showed "in stock" on the site. I immediately got a confirmation email saying I'd get another email once the order shipped, and they charged my credit card. That was the last update PING ever sent.
A week goes by with no shipping confirmation so I called to check on the status. They helpful enough - said they didn't have the grips in stock but just got another delivery in and they just had to go through QC, and the order would ship in next day or two. I checked the website and the both items still showed "in stock".
Waited another week with no update and called back - same story - should ship any day now. I checked the website and the both items still showed "in stock".
Waited more than a week and decided I'd wasted enough time calling PING and made what I hoped would be the final call to cancel the order. No problem they said. They'd cancel the order and I'd get a refund on my card shortly...
That was two weeks ago. Looking through my credit card this morning, my card still hasn't been refunded for the order. Here we go again.

I saw a website a few days ago somewhere and I can't for the life of me find it again.
It could be a Wordpress elementor theme, or possibly a webflow theme, or maybe someone's actual website showing their portfolio.
What was it:
A landing page had some cards flat (flat lay style) but stacked on top of each other in different angles. The cards looked like a deck of cards laid out on a table. The cards had with curved borders with text and an image inside showcasing a project. You could click and drag them individually across the page.
I've tried googling a whole heap of terms and searching the template sites, and my internet history but can't for the life of me locate it. Maybe I dreamt it? I'm sure it exists somewhere and want to recreate it.

Hey. I assume a couple of you are older or know someone who grew up in the early 2000s. Here's the thing... I don't know if anybody actually remembers or it was just a dream... For starters people tossed slurs around like candy. Everyone was posting crap like 2 girls 1 cup or cartel videos of guys getting heads cut off. Horrible people like Shane Dawson were popular. Bullying was what people on the early internet did for fun. It's still around to an extent but nothing to the level it was in the early internet.
People would post viruses in YouTube comments to screw with people. Bands like Mindless Self Indulgence were popular without taking themselves seriously or caring who they offended. Fucking Fall Out Boy tricked there fans into going to a porn site. MTV reality shows were about showcasing the worst of humanity. People would have Halo 2 parties where you'd hear 12 year olds scream the n word constantly.
I don't necessarily think it's bad those times are passed. It's probably for the best honestly. But like... The cultural shock is real. It felt like yesterday I was watching Orgrish videos and now you guys are getting offended by Family Guy jokes. I saw 10 people get there heads cut off but you guys are mad Peter said the F word?
It gives me the impression older people from my generation are fucking lying to fit in. I know guys from my generation didn't care. People in my high school and college were all like this.
But now suddenly you guys care about social justice and being a good person? Pretend you didn't like American Pie or Jackass?Such fucking liars.

I'm considering buying tickets for Saturday and the best tickets I could find were on resellers like StubHub and VividSeats. If I buy through the official site, you have to buy a one-day pass that includes both sessions but if you buy on the resellers, they break them out into afternoon and evening. Is that legit? I just want to make sure that I don't get scammed if I show up for just the evening session with my tickets.

Hi Everyone,
I am new to contracting and I recently got an offer with £450 a day , inside IR35. When I check it on the HMRC site for take home calculation, it shows some amount and I tried verifying on other website, which shows different amount ( with a large difference ).
I just want to know how it actually works.

I have a couple of cookie management extensions. They're a toolbar button that opens a panel. But it's hidden and out of my sight.
I would love if there was an extension that showed me the site's cookies and 3rd party on the sidebar so I can always be aware and manage everything that gets added.

Tonightwat 8pm (UK time) we are going to mass download the song 'Troubles' by Ren, who released the song for #MEAwarenessWeek and has used his platform to shine a light on ME/CFS, Lyme, MCAS and chronic illnesses in general with his rap career. The song went to number 1 on iTunes upon release last Friday and the music video already has over 1 million views which is incredible!!
We want to show some support for the song and finish off a fantastic week of community advocacy by downloading the song together tomorrow night and using the hashtag #TroublesWithME. Apparently on a Thursday it doesn't take many downloads (around 100) to enter the iTunes top 10 (apparently even less on Amazon) and of course the more people who discover the song and discover Ren (and subsequently learn about these illnesses) then the better!

Aquila Generalis scoured the ruined metropolis. She held a torch in her upper left hand and a gargantuan gladius in her upper right. She had large nets filled with writhing Japanese civilians in her lower left and right appendages. The civilians screamed and squirmed like fish in netting. Some humans were cradling streaming infants and crying children. Others cradled their spouses, elderly parents, or anyone nearby. Most just panicked. A few rational humans used small knives or their teeth to sever the netting, much to the amusement of an onlooking dragon. Movement from an apartment complex caught the attention of a tremendous soldier. The soldier stuck his hand into the ruined apartment complex while the rest stopped and stared at him.

"What are you doing?" Asked another soldier. She raised an eyebrow and gave her fellow soldier a puzzled look.

The giant stretched his right arm, straining himself. He pressed his left arm against the building to maintain balance.

"Need some help?" The amused dragon sneered.

The giant hissed in excretion and annoyance. He stretched his fingers, a determined fervor taking over him. He pushed a desk over, revealing a cowering human. The giant grabbed the human by its legs and dragged the Man toward his eye.

"Got him." The soldier hissed.

Some of the giants began crowding around the building. Most gathered to steal their compatriot's meal, while a few scoured the facility for more humans. The soldier's single eye widened with glee. He licked his lips with anticipation; the sight of fresh meat entranced him in a state of euphoria. A small gust of wind blew towards him as he dragged the screaming human towards his eye. The giants opened their maws in anticipation, a toothy grin plastered on their faces. The human revealed a small device, and the gigantic glutton paid no mind. The monster feasted on many humans when he entered the metropolis. He had never seen such a colossal city nor so many humans packed into one place. This human would be one of his many victims. When the human was before the titan, he sprayed a mysterious substance into the titan's eye. The giant released the human and covered his single elephantine eye. He wailed in pain and stumbled backward, knocking his comrades over. The Mammoth of a Monster cried like a newborn infant while his comrades groaned in pain.
Aquila Generalis glowered at her pathetic legion while the dragon erupted in laughter. Others stopped searching the building to see what the commotion was about. Upon seeing their fellow giant reduced to a weeping wimp, they laughed.

"I'm blind. I'm Blind! I'M BLII-I-I-IND!" The giant wailed.

"I CAN'T SEE. I. CAN'T. SEE-EE!!!" he whipped his eye furiously, Wailing all the while.

Aquila Generalis put the nets down. She marched toward the foolish giant, pulled him to his feet, and glared at her soldiers. They quickly stopped laughing. The dragon, on the other hand, was hooting and hollering.

"I'M bLiNd. I cAn'T sEe. Oh, HeLp MeE!" the dragon jeered.

The general ignored him for the sake of her health. She shook the crying Cyclops, then slapped him.

"What is wrong with you, soldier?"

The cyclops sobbed quietly. "The h-human sp-sprayed me with s-something." He said between sniffles.

The general clutched the bridge of her nose. I do not have time for this. As the general berated the legionnaire, Strange beasts dotted the night sky.

The dragon was blown to pieces. His scales, limbs, teeth, and other body parts were scattered on the roof he once stood on. Chaos ensued as the squadron of Mitsubishi F-2 fighters lit up the sky. Before General Aquila could react, A missile hit her head, detonating. Brain matter and skull fragments decorated the buildings, creating a collage of carnage. Most of the legion tried to bring out their slings, only for their bones and organs to paint the metropolis. The few remaining legionnaires fled, leaving their human hostages. Dragons from nearby, alerted by the explosions, came to investigate. A barrage of missiles shot down the dragons that flew toward the squadron. Blood, bone, and flesh rained down on the streets of northern Tokyo.

The invasion was successful. Thousands of humans fell before the trollish legion of Luath and the elven legion of Grásta; hundreds more huddled in cages, ready to be processed into food or slaves. The trolls fought in ritualistic combat for their human trophies. At the same time, the elves watched, knowing they would be given most of the quarry due to their inherent superiority. The lesser fae were presented their trophies early: the elderly, infirm, and those too young to be used. With nothing better to do, most of the lesser fae reentered the gate while a select few remained. Ginearálta de Grásta, General of the Grásta legion, speaks with one of his soldiers.

"Agreed, Sir. It is almost…." The soldier marveled at the large city, its towering structures piercing the heavens. "Impressive," the soldier sighed.

"Uncanny? Yes. Impressive? No. These are intelligent animals capable of fabricating wonders, but animals nonetheless. They mimic our customs, art, and concepts but lack the capacity to create true marvels. True marvels are the domain of those who wield the arcane, for it is the arcane that elevates us to the realm of sapience. Only those capable of wielding the arcane can be called sapient and only sapients can build something impressive. Everything Man creates is a caricature of our achievements; remember that."

Saighdiúir Giolcach, The soldier of reeds, obeyed his general's command. The soldier caught glimpses of the dueling trolls from the corner of his eyes as he passed by. Ginearálta de Grásta and Saighdiúir Giolcach passed by some trees and bushes until they reached a clearing full of human cages. Ginearálta de Grásta stepped directly in front of a cage and knelt to get a closer look at the captives. Saighdiúir Giolcach slowed down and stopped a few feet from his commander.

The soldier hesitantly stepped closer and looked inside the cages. Humans were tightly packed inside, shoulder to shoulder, shaking and quietly sobbing. Their clothing was torn and filthy, and their faces were stained with dust and tears. They inched away from the general, squishing each other in the process. The site disgusted him, but he maintained his composure.

Anguish, anxiety, grief, sadness, and so many emotions swirled within those expressive eyes. The outside commotion faded as the soldier drowned in her eyes. As his breathing and heart rate accelerated, he began questioning everything he learned about humanity and the definition of sapience. This isn't right; nothing is right. The soldier of reeds remembered his father's stories of glorious manhunts and successful raids. He remembered his mother's proverbs on magic and how it separated them from their pets and livestock. The elves are the superior race, far superior to humans. Humans are pets, livestock, slaves, and —NO! He took three steps back. He was wrong, his family was wrong, everyone was wrong. This is ₩ⱤØ₦₲. The humans had unleashed something, which wiped out the Grásta legion in seconds by filling the soldiers with metal stones. The stones were so fast, he couldn't stop them. They tore through the elves with ease and left marks on his skin. He used his magic to find the killers, but before he could retaliate, what could only be described as metal beasts launched fire blasts at him, exterminating most of his legion. So as I recall there were 6 covers of issue #1 for GAIBSIV the first issue #1 by Rags Morales….and many others BUT wasn’t there a black and white variant of this first cover in addition to the other variants?

This is a follow-up post to my Two Year Update and One Year Update. For those who haven’t read it here’s a short summary of my first 2 Years

• First Month: Learning Kana with Apps like Duolingo and some basic vocab/grammar and figuring out if I actually like learning Japanese
• Month 2-3: Doing RRTK and watching Cure Dolly for Grammar on the Side
• Month 3-4: Core Anki Decks for Basic Vocab (Tango N5, Core Anime Deck)
• Month 4-6: Reading and Sentence Mining Satori Reader with extra cards from Anime via Morphman
• Month 6-9: Finished Satori Reader and moved on to Anime with Japanese Subtitles + Sentence Mining
• Month 9-12: Added Reading Novels to my Routine for about 1h a day. Continued with Anime for the rest of the time
• Month 13-24: Continued my Routine of reading books + watching Anime and doing Sentence Mining with Anki. I increased my reading to about 2-3h a day for a while and cut back on Anime

I am not as diligent with tracking anymore, so some of it might be missing. My Anime watched and Books read has gone down quite a bit from last year, but I also played some Games in Japanese this year and watched a lot more Youtube/Variety Content. Although I didn’t track it, generally my daily time spent has gone down from 3-4h daily to around 2-3h nowadays.

Current Daily Routine

My Routine has not changed much from my second year, but I tried exploring more genres and media. With better comprehension and less reliance on lookups (thanks to Anki), I am able to enjoy media without subtitles or games where lookups are a bit more annoying, much more than before. I still aim for 2-3 hours of immersion daily, with books remaining the backbone of my immersion since I enjoy them the most. Recently, I’ve replaced my before-bed anime watching with reading books accompanied by audiobooks, thanks to tools like Jidoujisho and Kanjieaters’s SubsPlease tool for syncing audiobooks with books. I’ve also played more games in Japanese, a big highlight being the Metal Gear Solid Series. I’ve also watched more Youtube and Variety Shows as filler content.
In terms of Anki usage, my daily time has tapered off to around 10-15 minutes, primarily because I don’t find many new words anymore. Nowadays, around 90% of my new cards come from reading. When I’m reading challenging books, this number can jump up to around ~20 new cards, but on average, it hovers around 6.
Very recently I’ve also added about 5-10 mins of Minimal Pairs Pitch Training on the コツ Site to my Routine. I’ve only been doing this for about 2 Weeks, and I’m already noticing a big improvement in my Pitch perception. I still don’t have any ambitions regarding Output, but feel like being able to recognize Pitch unlocks a new way of perceiving the language, which I find fascinating.

What my Comprehension feels like

Reading Books

While my reading speed hasn't changed drastically, improving from about 12k chars/hour to around 13-14k chars/hour, the range of variation has decreased significantly. A year ago, my speed could drop to 9k chars/hour with difficult books; now, 12k chars/hour is more of a baseline for me. But my comprehension is where I feel the most improvement, I don’t need to check DeepL at all anymore, if I don’t understand a sentence, I can most of the time understand it when I read it again. And there are a lot more nuances, I now notice which I didn’t before. I noticed this the most in my reread of また同じ夢を見ていた which was my first book I read in Japanese, after rereading it, ~100 books later, I noticed a lot of new nuances, subtext and word play.
I also started using more Audiobooks, in combination with SubsPlease and Jidoujisho to get a synced Subtitle file with the Audiobook. I read along while listening, and my comprehension got fast enough that I generally can just let it play, only occasionally needing to relisten to a line. Even for more difficult books, like 鹿の王 which I recently read. I also read a physical Book this year. If the book is not too hard, I’m now comfortable reading it without a dictionary. The one I read had about 20 words I didn't know, but I only felt the need to look up 2-3. I was able to get the meaning from the others based on context and kanji.

Watching Content with Japanese Subtitles

I felt pretty strong in this area a year ago already, but it has definitely improved a lot also. I noticed this the most when I played the Metal Gear Solid Series. All dialogue does have subtitles, but the content is quite difficult both on a vocabulary level and also on a meaning level, since they are dealing with deep themes a lot of the time. But I was able to play it mostly free flow, only needing to look up a word here or there, getting most of the meaning from the kanji if I didn’t know a word.

Watching Content without Japanese Subtitles

Ironically even though I never intentionally did pure listening practice, always using Japanese subtitles if they were available, I’m noticing the most progress in this area. A year ago, I was not comfortable with most non-subtitled content. Nowadays I would say, easier content like most youtube videos or variety shows, I’m quite comfortable with, although I definitely still miss much more compared to using subtitles. But with Anime or Movies in general, where I’m also much more picky in my comprehension, since I don’t want to miss anything, I’m still not comfortable watching without subtitles I feel like in scripted content people are more likely to use rare words, and even if I technically “know” them, it's still often hard for me to recall them without seeing the characters. But as with all things, that will work itself out with more input. I’m glad my theory from my 1 Year Update, that doing pure listening practice is not needed and using subtitles does not impede progress in listening, turned out true for me.

Closing Thoughts

Although I was able to do all the things I can do now a year ago, I feel like I can do them much more effortlessly. Consuming Japanese is now much closer to English or my native language German, although it’s still not quite there. Both in terms of listening, I usually listen to Youtube videos in English at 2.5x speed, that's not possible for me in Japanese at the moment. Similarly, despite doing a lot of reading, there’s still a lot of room to improve to reach native-level speed.
But it doesn’t feel like learning anymore; it’s more about enjoying the exploration of a new culture through its media. I still love learning new things, which is why I started focusing more on pitch, even though I still have no plans for output.
Adding to my Closing Thoughts from my 2 Year Update, I still feel like this hobby has been the most enriching thing I’ve ever done. Being able to get better at something, feeling the progress gradually, while exploring new ways of thinking, not just through the language itself, but also the vastly different media compared to western media, really broadened my horizon. I feel like learning to appreciate and understand what the media is trying to say is also in a way like learning a language. It got me to read books or try out new genres I probably would have never considered otherwise. For example the Metal Gear Series got me interested in history, which I didn't think I liked before. I also learned a lot about learning new things. I think I can apply all the techniques I discovered learning Japanese to any other skill I want to learn in the future. Being consistent on a daily basis and always practising the same way you would in a real scenario would be the biggest factors for me. (For example, no JLPT grammar questions, rather seeing, looking up and understanding the grammar in native content)

Is anyone else having trouble using the AXS site to buy tickets for the upcoming Philly show at Union Transfer on August 3rd? Every time I try to purchase, it says there's an issue with my payment method. Tried 3 different credit cards and two different PCs, plus on a mobile device, with no luck. I'm wondering if AXS is having issues? Never had any problems buying tickets for shows at UT before.

i made a new dopple bot earlier today, and it's been sending me to a 404 page. not only this, but the bot doesnt show up on the app, and only shows up on the site. any solution? do i just wait?

I send the same parcel twice and both lost . First of all im selling hand made products, the first time i used 2nd class shipping and its lost i tried to get compensation but the site wont let me do it so I still haven’t got any compensation from last time. As its lost so I did the hand made products again and send with tracked 24 this time on22/4 I just called royal mail and that person say its lost again. I mean how can they do it ? Same person same address same product and lost my product twice? Its so frustrating to me and shows that how irresponsible and unreliable company they are. How do i keep my parcel safe? How is it secure even when i use tracked 24 and they still tell me they dont know where my parcel is. I spend a lot of time and effort on my artwork they just easily lost it

Last night I was roaming around and came upon a fissure site. A Scorchbeast came out of it and I decided to take it on. I was doing fine but I eventually ran out of ammo on my favorite weapon. It was a long shot but I decided to use the help emote since I was on a public team with two other people that were not with me for the fight, just to see if anybody would show up. Immediately after, some random level 300-something joined my team, fast traveled to me, and took this Scorchbeast down in an instant. Right after that, the homie left the team. I was shocked and amazed. If you’re out there whoever you are, you’re doing gods work.

So, I used to be a Meetup organizer. Things didn't work out though. People would join my groups, but, my events would rarely receive any engagement. There were only two times that people actually showed up. The first time, we were both completely out of it, and he left an hour early. The second time, I was just used to not getting any engagement, so I just didn't bother coming. Funny enough, someone actually showed up that time, and I stood her up.
Anyway, after a while, I decided to downgrade my Meetup+ subscription. There was no way to do it manually, so I ended up messaging the admins about it, and they showed me some offers for a new plan.
When I saw the offers though, I then decided that I shouldn't keep pouring money into this site, because I haven't really been using it anyway. So, I asked them to just cancel my subscription, and I dropped the subject.
Fast forward to a month later, and I got charged $75 from Meetup on my bank account. I then checked my email, and I saw that I received no response from the Meetup admins regarding my cancellation. I decided to double check ways to cancel the subscription on my own, but, I couldn't find anything.
I then tried to remove my debit card from my Meetup account. That work either though. There was no option on the page to remove my card from my account.
So, I resorted to trying to delete my account. They wouldn't let me do this though, cause I was an organizer on a couple of groups. I tried to request other members to take over for me, but, nobody from my groups were actually active on Meetup anymore.
I then looked up Meetup on some review sites, and it seems like this is a common issue. The admins just trap people into overpriced subscription services, and they ghost people when they want out of it. Because of this, I decided to resort to manchild tactics:

I will be taking this to small claims court if you do not cancel my subscription by the end of this month. This is ridiculous. I don't even use this site anymore. I've tried deleting my account over this, but, it won't even let me do that. Honestly, you can just ban me at this point. I don't care. You guys suck.

I had no intentions of taking this to court. I didn't even think I had a case, since I was the one who signed up for the subscription in the first place. I didn't care though. I figured, if I make the threat, they'd probably just not want me on their site anymore, and they'd delete my account for me.
That's not what happened though, instead, I received an email saying that they've cancelled my subscription, and that they've refunded my latest payment. They tried to deflect the blame onto me though, and they said that I haven't responded to their email where they offered to downgrade my subscription. I double checked though, and I quickly dismissed this as a lie, since, I asked them to cancel my subscription right after I received their first email.
Anyway, moral of the story, don't be nice to the Meetup admins. Grab their attention, and make legal threats at them. It doesn't matter if their frivolous, or if you even have any intentions of suing them. They know that they're scumbags, and they don't want to deal with whatever legal drama that you could potentially throw at them.
