2024.05.15 12:20 No-Sport-7848 Methane SIBO

Hello!
I have only recently stumbled across the good doctor on a few podcasts and I would like to give L Reuteri from Biogaia a try. I have recently had antibiotics for sibo which I had to stop early sadly. I am taking lots of ginger and motility supplements and eating healthier food than before.
However, I have to admit I am quite apprehensive about starting probiotic treatment. It would be really great to hear any positive stories in introducing the L Reteuri yoghurt into your life and if it addressed anything like SIBO or histamine intolerance?
Thanks! ๐Ÿ™

2024.05.15 11:57 abyssaI_watcher I'm having a really hard time moving on from my mental unstable parent.

Noteable people is 18-23M me, 35-38F mother, 8-12F sister, ages aren't a exact for identity purposes. And apologies for any bad grammar, it was never my thing.
So first to preface this by saying yes I know I need to move on I just don't know how without creating more resentment towards my mother than there already is.
So to give context, we live in a government apartment complex (comes into play later) in Oregon. We got it when I 7th grade-8 grade range in middle school. We have been living here ever since. There's been issues here and there like all families, nothing to intense or out of the norm to be of concern or create resentment between us in terms of fights or the such.
Now where the problem comes in first off, my mother has a lot of mental issues. She's throughout all my life has been depressed plus severe anxiety. She said a lot of it stims from having me young and taking care of me. She also due to her young age having me has felt guilty for not providing enough. Which she is very defensive about so throughout my life. Often feeling like I can't say anything without making her get defensive (not angry like crying), so I've by and large kept quiet and just went along with it as it made me feel bad.
This with the fact that I had not father growing up, she tried to basically find replacements. Replacemens looks back I didn't really need, as my grandpa and grandma already shoulder that burden and did a wonderful job at it. This created for my mom the reason to find a boyfriend and stick with them because in her name it was for me to have a father figure so to say. Problem comes, she rushed into theses relationships while being young. So obviously they turned out to be douchebags behind the scenes and bare medium above the table. But she never split from them, only after a really long time due to her attachment issues.
I think u get the idea, now fast forward until roughly a year after COVID started, at the time I believe I was starting my Jr year maybe a little ways into jr year. She quit her job as her job was giving her no hours. This I do not blame at all. But during this time she got a new boyfriend. Same story as the rest, this guy wasn't a full on douchebag but wasn't a good guy either. He kinda was just whatever. He had money as he was big into crypto when that boomed. This with her attachment issue/plus no job created a dependentsy. Since she hasn't gotten a job yet to time of this post.
Now the real problem and why I can't move on. The boyfriend she was dependent on and her broke up. Since she doesn't work a job yet she's not making any money obviously. Oregon in the government apartments we live in it's based on rent, we don't make money we don't need to pay rent. Along with using food stamps. For that reason if she was to get a job rent would go up, food stamps would go down and unless she's working a lot of hours it simply lvls out. That's her reasoning for not getting a job. The rules apply just the same way to me.
Now in normal circumstances I would just find a job, work, pay the rent then move out. But I have a sister, who I getting the short end of the stick. On one hand my mother has said quite literally in the past her job was raising me and as I'm a adult she believes she's finished that job and gets a break.
Tensions between my sister and my mother isn't in the best spot to say the least. My sister isn't good at hiding her emotions especially with puberty hitting her, even tho she trys. this in turn makes my mother's anxiety sky rocket and makes her sad constantly. This makes my sister feel guilty. I try to mediate best I can but as the past with me always keeping quiet, it's let go when it affects others I care about. I never really cared about anyone really in the past so it's never happened. This makes my mother feel like both of us are against her and out to get her. So even worse than before it feels like both me and my sister are on egg shells.
This is also a minor one but relevant none the less. My sister wanted a cat for herself as I had my own. I said it was a bad idea at the time because we had fleas and should deal with that first. My mother said it was fine she was gonna handle it and what not. I said OK but I don't wanna have any responsibilities connected to this animal. Come to today his 1.5 years old and has issues related to fleas as they where never delt with.
So my sister is one reason I have a hard time moving on. The other is I don't wanna feel responsible for both my mother and my sister and paying rent for them while so young myself. Knowing myself well enough I can acknowledge that it will make any and all my resentment blow over terribly for my mother. As the power dynamic will be swapped for me and any eggshells that I would tip toe around, I never will anymore. Any and all guilt shes felt will be multiplied to high. Again making my sister feel bad cuz that girl won't even hurt a fly. So on the one hand I wanna take car of my sister and be there for her, the other hand I don't wanna be near my mother and both in combination I feel is holding me back.
Btw before u ask I've been asking my mother to see a therapist for years. So much so I made it a birthday wish for her to simply make a appointment and that's all I asked for her. She still hasn't but I don't know how to bring it up without stepping on the eggshells. I do once in a while but she get emotional.
Tldr, I don't know how to move on, with taking on so much responsibility I shouldn't have imo, not wanting my sister to get screwed over in the process, single mother that has mental problems that's effecting the whole family.

2024.05.15 11:54 LxDolz i'm suddenly anxious rn. venting timeee!

i wanna get this off of my shoulders rq.
i don't know how to explain this, but i often get the feeling of "one day I'll -----" in everything. one day ill turn 18, one day ill get married, one day ill have children, one day ill meet my grandchildren, etc, and i've never really been able to explain it to anyone, but it's just a feeling of "oh, it's actually going to happen!" and yk right now im feeling like "one day i'll actually die."
what happens after death? the angels ask you the 3 questions, the day of judgement, you go to heaven inshallah, you spend eternity there. but is it really eternity? we can't be sad in heaven and we can't get bored in heaven, so what will we be doing? will i be me? one day, after thousands and billions of years in heaven, will we ever disappear? i dont believe in turning into nothingness ofc, im a muslim, but what about years and years in heaven? im scared of being there for eternity, but im also scared of one day just disappearing. actually, even before all that, im scared of death. what'll it feel like? i heard you can hear people while ur getting buried or something- like you still have a consciousness but you cant move your body. is that true? what'll happen to my soul? won't it be scary? i know heaven's supposed to be an awesome thing that everyone wishes for, but the idea of going there scares me a bit. like alhamdulilah and inshallah i go to heaven, but just dying in general creeps me out. no one's ever come back from the dead to tell us about anything (except the dude from the yellow cow story in the Quran). overall, im just scared of the idea of 'eternity'. what is eternity? Allah is the creator of time. A day there is a thousand years here. Will we ever get bored? Will we ever disappear? Turn into nothingness after billions and trillions of centuries in heaven? will my parents be my parents? we're all gonna be around the age of 30, right? so will i still see them as my parents? so many questions, and no answers. dunno what to do honestly, but imma just blindly trust in God because he's the best of all planners.

2024.05.15 11:53 Ble_u Vitalis' goal; the Prophet, the Saint, and the Judgement

Vitalis' goal; the Prophet, the Saint, and the Judgement
In this post I'd like to talk about what I believe Vitalis' ultimate goal was, and knowledge regarding the Macula. Why did he need Hugo and Beatrice further after gaining the Macula for himself, and why did he die with a smile on his face? Is he simply evil and manipulative, or a foreteller of the truth ahead?
(Please be warned that this post contains spoilers for Plague Tale: Requiem's ending)
First things first, let's gather how much this old man knew of the Macula, and where the change began with him once he became afflicted by it.
  • Basilius was first mentioned in Plague Tale Innocence, by two researching alchemists in the Bastion. Vitalis knew of the Macula even before Hugo's powers woke, but only strived to capture him, once the plague started to hit.
  • Lord Nicholas' orders were to capture Hugo, but on many occasions you can hear guards say "capture children" instead. This gives idea to the thought that Amicia is a necessary pawn to use too, alongside Beatrice as well.
There is a pattern, which aligns with the Order's symbols. It's purely theorical, and unclear, so please take note of that.
  • In Plague Tale: Innocence, Chรขteau d'Ombrage is a place among many other hidden which are owned by the Order. It contains the symbol on the floor, which we see in detail for the first time.
    (Second image)
-> The Phoenix/Fire, the Blood, and the Moon/Darkness.
This in Requiem changes into this:
(Third image)
(I take note of the symbol from Requiem, because it's different and I'd like to make it clear, that whereas here the Phoenix is the Order's symbol, in Innocence it clearly applies to the Protector.)
So, with Requiem's symbol out of the way, let's analyze what roles the symbol's each sign applies to.
  • The Phoenix is the Protector, the Flame. Originally, Amicia.
  • The Moon/Darkness is the Macula, which's host is Hugo.
  • The Blood, is Beatrice. The mother - the alchemist.
It's likely, that Vitalis knew of this system, and it's importance at keeping the balance. Why?
"You may run, but no one can escape their own blood."
That is the line Vitalis said to Amicia, when they met the university. He admitted, that he's been watching her family, for quite a while now. In fact, saw her grow up even.
The Protector's role is dual. It is to protect the Carrier, and ultimately, with this, protect the world from the Bite.
The man knew of the system, and so he tried to recreate it himself. His Protector was none else, than Nicholas. (If you haven't read the post about him, there I explain that it's likely Nicholas was taken in as an orphan and groomed into his present role) it's even more badass if you think that the original Protector, and the artificial one fought, from which Amicia came out as winner :)
  • But what of the "Blood"? The role of the Alchemist is necessary, so he forcibly held Beatrice hostage with Hugo's experiments, even at the Conjuration.
He knew of the system, kept it, what caused him failure then?
  • With sending away his own Protector, out of arrogance, the balance fell. The Macula consumed him, and fed on his already growing hostility towards their current world.
Let's take a little break to talk about this hostility. The New World, and the Old World, as he calls them, and his non-legitimate Inquisition.
  • We need to think of the time period first and foremost. We are at the start, barely even cusp of renaissance. People start to escape the Church's regulations, our of a wish for individual humane freedom and expressions which begin to rise. In art, in education, and in beliefs.
  • Vitalis, likely in his 70s at least, lived through the crusades, and the age of corruption, rise of orders, chaos caused by not one but two Popes chosen. It was a power-play, going on for way too long.
  • The old world, which he grew up in and lived through, started to falter, and he likely knew, judgement is proper, destruction is needed, in order to build a world anew. It's also likely that this is why he later preferred Hugo rather than Nicholas as his own protรฉgรฉ, since Nicholas was a follower, a 'model man' of that old world, whereas Hugo, the youth, questioned him and changed him.
  • The rats were the angels of the new world, fulfilling the prophecy of apocalypse. The four horsemen, war, famine, plague, death. All are present in the story, and also hinted. In the village's church, the windows show the four horsemen of apocalypse.
His Inquisition was not one belonging under the Church, but one REBELLING against its rules, you could say, trialing the Church's beliefs, corrupted system as well. That is why Vitalis cared not that he is excommunicated, and why Nicholas didn't regard the Arch Bishop as an important person any bit, compared to Vitalis.
  • Vitalis likely opened his believer's eyes, that the Church only causes war among them, meanwhile there is a Plague they should instead take care of. The Inquisition is entirely heretic, but they believe they are the only righteous, because no one dares to step up against the Plague's upcoming. This process of change is what he is the old relic of.
With Hugo under his wings later on, he realized even more so, that his planned changes were materialistic, and his goals changed with solutions more radical.
"You cannot kill what has been already sublimated."
He injected himself with Hugo's blood, for various reasons. Controlling the Plague, contrary to popular belief, was NOT one of them.
  • He was far too weak to maintain such control, even if the Macula gave him temporary physical uplift.
So why?
His goal to stop the Plague, was through the Conjuration of the Prima Macula. Who was, Basilius.
But how would that even be possible? And what does it have to do with Vitalis "sublimating"? The Macula, tamed, or controlling its host?
  • Vitalis realized something we reach the conclusion of only from Requiem's ending, where we see Hugo's consciousness remained within the Macula, even after he gave up.
The Macula, keeps consciousness, emotions of its earlier hosts. With this, by sublimating himself, Vitalis becomes eternally part of it, with Basilius, and Hugo too.
  • With this, just as how Hugo felt Basilius' feelings, Vitalis understood Hugo's pure view of the world, and obliged to its whims. And perhaps, the next carrier, will "encounter" Vitalis's darkened consciousness along the way :)
  • That is why the old man smiled. He knew he will die, but he became a "saint". Eternal, forever in the Macula. Forever in a bond, with Hugo too likely. With this, he can change the world, just later.
Side notes:
The sky above the city is exactly like Hugo's Nebula. Once Hugo passed, and ONE OF THE PROTECTORS died, Vitalis passed.
Vitalis viewed himself as a sacrifice, the CRUCIBLE where everything unites. This also hints at the shared consciousness which I mentioned earlier.
With how Amicia (the protector) is able to have temporary control over the rats whilst holding the Carrier's hand due to their deep bond, it's likely Nicholas did the same with Hugo for this reason, although there the bond was forced.
I hope I explained everything that I wanted thoroughly, but if something is unclear (which I can imagine because this was a messy one), please feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer. Everything is debatable, so feel free to add your own ideas as well! :)
Also, none of the used images belong to me.

2024.05.15 11:45 BigBallaBitty Reasonable to block? Thoughts?

I had quite the weird roommate experience. To preface, my situation wasnโ€™t terrible, but did have a major impact on my mental health, academic performance, and socialization this past freshman year of college.
To start off, I met my roommate through a college bios page. What seemed great over the phone turned into a quick nightmare as soon as the end of august rolled around. The first day we were in a room together, you could feel the awkwardness and disconnect and it never went away, even at the end of the second semester. Basically my roommate became good friends with this girl down the hall, and started to treat me and the other girls roommate like garbage.
Long story short, I became friends with the other girls roommate who was in the same situation as me. There was a football game the one day and I was getting ready with my friend in my room, and my roommate was getting ready with my friendโ€™s roommate in her room (2 doors apart). My friend went to grab something from her room and prompted me to get out in the hallway. Not even a foot out of the door, they are blowing us up in that room to some random chick. Mind you, they had NO reason to be talking about us. Their reasoning was that my friend and I came home late and made โ€œtoo much noise while they were sleeping.โ€ HELP ME NOW BC THEY WERENT EVEN SLEEPING, AS HER ROOMMATE WAS AT A PARTY THAT NIGHT AND I DIDNT EVEN SEE HER LMAO. As for my roommate, she was in her bed on her phone with the big light on. You werenโ€™t sleeping. It was nearing 10pm on a Friday night.
I know this sounds ridiculous up to this point but itโ€™s just hypocritical, because she would have her friend in my room or would be in my friendโ€™s room all the time making noise. My roommate used to let her friend in early in the morning because we all had an early class together, and she would literally come and start socializing when i wasnโ€™t even awake yet. Talk about disturbing someoneโ€™s sleep. Well anyway, this may have been wrong on my part as im being fully transparent here, but I muted her contact that day because my friend and I were about to go to the football game, and my roommate and her friend were going separately. I saw them in the lobby and glared at them when they smiled and waved because they had no clue ts I just heard them say. I partly muted her contact for the day so I didnโ€™t have the urge to send her something nasty if Im gonna be honest. I had simply had enough of her.
Well come the next day, Iโ€™m laying in my bed feeling so alone. I wanted for the life of me to be able to be friends with my roommate, but after hearing what she said about me, it was pretty disheartening. I put a lot of work into our room. I was the only one who ever cleaned. I was the one to buy the fridge and microwave because she was out of state and I didnโ€™t want her to have the hassle of transporting those things. I was just in a really bad headspace and missing home that I didnโ€™t get out of bed that morning until late. Well, I start to hear fingers slamming the keypad. You donโ€™t have to use the keypad unless youโ€™re in a lock out situation. Here it comesโ€ฆ
This annihilation of a human being bursts into the room and goes, and I quote, Is there a reason you fing blocked me? (Because I wasnโ€™t getting her calls as she was still muted). And I straight up said, yeah there actually is, I heard all the sht you said about me yesterday. The woman was too stunned to speak. But she spoke. โ€œStill that isnโ€™t a reason to not answer my calls. Iโ€™m not obligated to you. I swear if you touch any of my s**t, Iโ€™m gonna call the cops.โ€
Runs out and slams the door
Gave me no room to talk whatsoever. And whatโ€™s funny about the last part is that my roommate and her friend, while they were talking about us, did in fact touch my friends stuff as her closet was rummaged through, her shoes were messed with, her mirror was broken. Not to mention my stuff was starting to be out of place too. She was really just reflecting herself. She helped herself to all of my food, ate an ENTIRE box of chips my mom had gotten me to take to college. This chick was loaded with money too, there was no reason she was eating my food when I could barely get by.
Thereโ€™s a lot of small things that happened after that. She apologized the same night but I never saw her the same after. What really burnt me was the fact I gave her a phone wallet for her student id and she never even put it on to this day. She had no reason to be locked out given the fact she wanted the wallet and never put it on. Thatโ€™s entirely her fault. And up to that point, Iโ€™m honestly glad I had her contact muted. This was her karma.
Another comical karma story was when it was a Sunday or something, and I went to the library that day for 6 hours. Thatโ€™s not terrible long for me for a weekend, but that day I was exhausted. I was heading back to my room when she texted me, โ€œhow much longer will you be out of the room?โ€ because her boyfriend was there and she wanted time alone with him. He was also from out of state and would come see her. Mind you, at this point, they werenโ€™t even in the room. They were at a sporting event. Iโ€™ve honestly had it up to this point because I would give them PLENTY of time alone all the time, whether they were on the phone together or in person. She never did the same for me, and my relationship is longer than hers.
I simply replied โ€œwell I just got back but I guess I can leave againโ€ which was honestly kind of passive aggressive but like atp I was so fed up with her garbage. She had my location and purposely made it a big deal that I was going back to the room. I just grinded for 6 hours, and she never even told me her boyfriend was coming that day. On the way to the room she sprained her ankle and had to be taken to urgent care. Needless to say I got some sleep that day actually. But I walked into my room and her packages were thrown all over my desk, because my space was just hers i guess lmao.
Karma is real. Donโ€™t be a terrible, inconsiderate roommate. Also here is a list of less explained occurrences that have happened throughout this unforgettable freshman year
-took multiple pictures of me while I slept
-she got so sick and coughed all over everything, blew nose loudly all night but complained when I got sick to my face
-bribed me with a stanley cup after threatening to call the cops on me for not answering her
-flooded our room with water from the bathroom when i wasnโ€™t there and posted about it on her instagram story without even texting me about it (the water was mostly on my side and she tried blaming in on someone else)
-left old food in the fridge, the fridge that I bought (and im talking like months old food and drinks
-would call her bf for hours every day but not talk (he could just hear and see me and i wouldnโ€™t even know he was on the phone)
-offered me to live with her next year and oddly enough backed out last second (we were on semi good terms at this point)
-would make me feel unwelcome in my own room
-would look at me weirdly if I came in during one of her day and night long phone calls with her bf
-would be loud asf while getting ready and then expected me to tip toe around her when I got ready
-posted a picture of me on her instagram complaining about having a roommate because she couldnโ€™t cry over her chem grades with me in the room, when she never even left the room for me to do so when I experienced 2 deaths in the span of a few months
Iโ€™m sure communication on my end could have helped some, but it came to the point where it was pointless. I didnโ€™t care for her at all. What burnt me is that she started being super nice to me the last two weeks of school which made it hard to just block her like i originally had planned. Would I look like a bad person for doing so, or is this completely validated with my experiences with her. Iโ€™ve never met someone so oddly unaware of themselves. It makes me cringe DEEPLY whenever I think about her and what I had to put up with. I also want to mention I did go to my RA and Res Director about this early on, so itโ€™s not like I blatantly didnโ€™t do anything about it.

2024.05.15 11:36 CuriousAnachronism 24 M Germany - History and Literature Enthusiast

Hello and welcome to my post. I would like to make a friend.
Here are my interests:
History. I have had an interest in history for almost a decade now, it started back in school and developed from there. Well, now that I think about it one could argue that it started even earlier in my life as I liked watching the odd historic documentary or film aired on television but it wasn't regular back then, I never actively sought it out. I am mostly interested in European history in the period between the 18th-20th century but I sometimes branch out to other time periods and other parts of the world. I watch various channels related to history and read articles and sometimes books. I have recently got a few books on the German revolution of 1848/1849 and a historical magazine on the Thirty Years' War. Besides that I try to visit museums sometimes.
Literature. Especially old novels. I like to immerse myself in the Worlds of these books, I tend to read them while listening to thematically fitting music and take my time with them. One time you are following a troubled Youth in his quest for spiritual understanding of the world, another you see the aged and decrepit Doctor gambling his very Soul on the promises of abtaining satisfaction in earthy pleasures, then again your olfaction notices the most pleasant scent known to man even as the one eminating it has the appearance of a revolting Frog. These and many other stories open up to you once you decide to set foot into the literary World.
Languages. I know three, with one being a bit rusty. I am currently working intently on strengthening it. I believe that if I continue to apply myself in this regard then I should be able to finally conquer it. What language am I working on? Well, if you were to stack all the major works in it they would be as tall as a house... It is fun to go through different works in multiple languages, the same goes for film, games and such.
Games. I recently played Cyberpunk 2077. Well as recently as I played any major story centric game. Now that the dust has settled and the bugs mostly removed...It's not that bad. The main questline at least. Besides that I tried Fallout 76 (Very average, I'm dissapointed with what they made the "RPG" system) and I might give Deus Ex Manking Divided another spin (since it's somewhat similar to Cyberpunk when it comes to its aesthetics). Dark Souls is one of my favorite series, I still haven't beaten Elden Ring though. When it came out I wasn't in the right mindset to invest a hundred hours into it, with all those bosses and difficult locations. I think I'll only consider playing it if I am streaming it to someone. I am generally interested in either streaming games or having the person I am talking to stream them to me. To be specific I mean streaming to a single person while being on call. Besides that I'm a big fan of Paradox strategy games, especially Europa Universalis IV and Heats of Iron IV, I tend to only play single player since I find multiplayer with many people to be rather stressful but on the other hand I have nothing against a co-op game. I'm not the best player though, despite the ammount of hours I have in them. Another great game I would mention would be Dragon's Dogma. A very underrated RPG. I recently beat it again and it was an atmospheric and interesting experience. It is one of those games that feel like they have an endless ammount of depth and constant new secrets to discover.
Anime and Manga. In recent times my interest in them has waned but I still watch the occasional series here and there. Like Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Which I found to be rather mediocre) and the very good first season from the new arc of Bleach. Some of my favourite series include: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Fate;Zero, Psycho Pass, Code Geass and Attack on Titan. I wouldn't mind if you were to introduce me to some new series, maybe based on the ones I mentioned. My favourite Manga is Berserk which I still follow, althought I am still not certain on the direction that the new author is taking. I suppose it really is a matter of contention whether a somewhat (or considerably warped) vision is better than an unfinished work. One could argue that a few novels remain unfinished and possess a macabre appeal to them as such.
Music. Classical music has a very special place in my heart. A few of my favourite pieces would be: Clair de Lune, Nocturne Op. 9 No.2, Devil's Trill Sonata, Danse Macabre, Valse Sentimentale, Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92: II. Alegreto (by Beethoven) and Suite from Swan Lake, Op. 20a: I. Scene. Moderato. There are more but these ones always invoke something in me when I listen to them. Besides Classical I also enjoy listening to Synthwave, old Western pop and J-pop, both modern and from the 20th century.
Well that about wraps it up for my interests. I would like to add a few things before I finish. I am neurodivergent (autism spectrum) and struggle with mental health. I respect the struggles others have but due to certain negative experiences I would prefer to find another Aspie. I am rather introverted and I do not have a large social circle. If I like someone I want to spend as much time with them as possible. I have been hurt in the past by caring about someone much more than they about me so I would like to avoid such things now.
If you decide to message me I ask that you send a DM instead of a chat and tell me about yourself. Take care.

Take care.

The Drink - A Barotrauma Tale Pt. 1 (Reupload)
This is a reupload of a story I wrote about 3 years ago and never finished - moderately edited to improve on some areas where my writing was lacking back then - unceremoniously titled 'The Drink'. I've been writing it off and on since the original was uploaded, and have finally found a point in life where I can actually write more than a line or two and be confident that it's good enough for literally anyone else besides me to read.
Reuploading so the few of you who are interested in reading it dont have to dig through three years of post history to find the first part.
Please enjoy, I'll be posting new parts semi-regularly as the story progresses.
__________
โ€œMan has gone out to explore other worlds and other civilizations without having explored his own labyrinth of dark passages and secret chambers, and without finding what lies behind doorways that he himself has sealed.โ€ โ€• Stanisล‚aw Lem

Part One - Step into the Drink

Richard Dorsett eyed the myriad of cargo transfer manifests and crew intake forms with growing trepidation. Every minute spent docked at this waystation was a minute wasted, and he'd spent the better part of the morning mulling over paperwork - the requisition of fresh medical supplies, amenities for the beleaguered crew, and munitions for aging weapon systems all had to be documented and signed off by him as per the Coalition's directives. He rifled through some of the pages haphazardly, signing a release form here or a liability waiver there until his frustration got the better of him and he set the stack aside, to be dealt with later.
Dorsett was rather average - average weight, average height with a tempered tone of voice and an unimposing visage. He'd served aboard this vessel, the Ardent Wretch, for some time as its helmsman, only recently taking on the role of its captain.
Dorsett leaned back in his chair and keyed his headset before speaking.
There was a drawn-out pause before a reply came, Leo's voice coming in garbled from the old comms equipment.

Came Leo's reply just as Dorsett's headset blared a deafening warning and shut off. He cursed, wrenching the device from his head and tossed it on the console in frustration.
Great, Battery's dead. Dorsett thought to himself, sighing again as he sat up from the captain's chair. He picked the headset up off the console and flipped it around in his hands. The equipment provided to the crew of the Ardent Wretch was as old as it was prone to failure, and what did work drained power at an incredible rate. He threw the headset onto his shoulder and moved to the aft end of the ship, through the airlock, and into the medical suite. Dr. Eli Boman had been occupied with organizing the ship's sparse medical supplies and was indifferent to Dorsett's entrance.
"Ey Dick..." murmured Eli, not looking away from his work as Dorsett passed through, "Where you headed?"
Eli Boman was a portly, sullen and cowardly man, not entirely dissimilar from his twin brother, Chance Boman. The good doctor had spent a great deal of time serving aboard the Wretch, tending to the minor burns and bruises of which were commonplace when serving aboard any vessel.
"Headset's busted. Gonna see if Dale's got any more batteries in storage." Replied Dorsett, gesturing in Eli's general direction. "How's the leg?"
Eli turned slightly, glancing from his leg to Dorsett as a scowl formed across his face. "Still hurts. Don't want to waste the morphine on it, though. Hey, uh-... Leo an' Margeret drop off the medical crate yet?"
Dorsett stopped and shook his head. "No crate. Sounds like 'et got... misplaced. Gonna have ta' get one at the next station."
Eli slumped his shoulders and turned back towards his work. "Fuckin' figures." He muttered disdainfully. Dorsett scowled at the harsh reaction but chose not to engage the topic further, choosing to instead leave the doctor to his sorting and pass into the next airlock. He'd known that the recent change of command hadn't gone over well with some of the crew, the Boman twins making their disapproval rather well known. They had both worked under the previous captain, William Reyes, for nearly three years and were the first to object to Dorsett's ascension.
The Ardent Wretch had been captained first by one Malcolm Falcone who, through either a lack of experience or a callous disregard for the wellbeing of his crew, lost his position to William Reyes in a mutiny in which he did not survive. With Reyes at the helm, the Wretch and her crew did fairly well and made quite the name for itself, even having tentative plans to enlist the vessel officially under the Coalition Navy. That was until the Crew of the Ardent Wretch received a harrowing distress signal from what appeared to be a half-sunk mining vessel during a routine cargo transport.
Reyes ordered the Wretch to respond and he, headstrong as he'd always been, disembarked and descended to investigate the sunken miner along with two security officers, placing the then helmsman Dorsett in command of the vessel temporarily. A full day passed with no response from captain Reyes or the rest of the response team after the initial boarding, and with Richard Dorsett as the acting captain a decision needed to be made. At first, Dorsett had made preparations to send another team down, but just before the new team was about to depart a second and final transmission reached the Wretch from one of the response team members. It was faint and garbled with interference, but the message was clear enough and still rang in Dorsett's mind at times.
Dorsett remembered how his stomach lurched to his throat in that moment. Everything he and Reyes had worked towards shattered to pieces in a single transmission. He remembered ordering the ordinance technician to load a depth charge as the helmsman pulled the ship to a safer distance. as the Ardent Wretch ascended, pulling away from the mining vessel, the depth charge was released and detonated just off the bow of the sub and freed it from the sea wall. What remained to sink further into the abyss and taking those infected along with it.
With the death of Captain Reyes, the spirit of the Ardent Wretch and its crew seemed to have died with him. The idea to join the Coalition Navy was abandoned, Dorsett not having anywhere near the reputation or connections with the Coalition as Reyes had. The crew entering a malaise of sorts as the weeks wore on, their stomach for adventure lost as everyone grew content with running odd jobs and ferrying cargo from one shit-stinking station to the next. The twins hadn't forgiven him for abandoning Reyes, and Dorsett knew they blamed him for their current circumstances.
Dorsett found himself lost in the dreary memories of those past three months. He realized he'd been lingering in the airlock for what must have been a few minutes and shook the haze from his mind. Wiping his face with his hands, he pressed on through the airlock and into the next corridor until he arrived at the storage room.
Sergei Ladon was there to greet him as he entered the storage room. Ladon was a thin, short man with a thick Neo-Russian accent. He was devilishly charming - a trait that had earned him quite the reputation as a philanderer - and Dorsett was happy to see him there, knowing he could use some of that levity right about now. Ladon was one of the few who supported Dorsett's ascension to command; the two had known each other for some time, Ladon being the ship's resident Electrical Technician having taught Dorsett a few tricks with repairing the sub's systems during their downtime.
The two exchanged a friendly nod, Dorsett rifling through the different lockers for a new battery as Ladon returned to whatever it was he was doing. Eventually finding a battery, Dorsett sat on the floor just opposite of Ladon, removing the headset from his shoulder and fiddling with the battery plate. "What'cha workin' on Ladon?" He asked.
"Trying to find new fuse. One of the junction boxes blew one and now part of the crew quarters is without light, and everyon' blame me!" Ladon turned, exaggerating with his arms as a smile bore wide across his face, before turning back around and continuing his search.
Dorsett chuckled. "Well, you did reroute a bunch of wire to power that 'experiment' of yours ah' little 'while ago."
Ladon turned around again, pointing an accusatory finger at Dorsett as his smile broadened. "You were saying that if I could get out a faster charge on the supercapacitor you'd give me raise. How am I to know you didn't mean that fast?" He said. They both shared a quick laugh, Ladon returning to his search once again. He seemed to be getting frustrated as the minutes passed and he still hadn't found a fuse.
"Check the, uh-... the drawer, there..." said Dorsett, looking up from the headset and gesturing to Ladon's left. "... no, the one below that one."
Ladon open the drawer and exclaimed, "ัะฟะฐัะธะฑะพ ั‡ะตั€ั‚ะพะฒัะบะธ ะฑะพะณ! No more having to play cards in the dark, huh?" He laughed, grabbing the fuse and flipping it around in his hand.
Dorsett laughed with him, looking back down to his headset and removing the battery plate. He glanced at Ladon again as he worked. "So, uh-... you an' Margeret, how's that going?"
Ladon's smile melted away, replaced by an irritated frown. "You know, she is telling me she is wanting 'space', yeah? Space! Onboard ะปะพะดะบะฐ, submarine, and you want space! Bah!" He waved his arms in frustration, shaking his head.
"Well give the lady what she wants, she'll come 'round eventually." Dorsett said through a smile, swapping the old battery with the new. He slipped the old one into one of the lockers as he stood up and keyed his radio. It flickered to life, and he placed it back on his head.
"She is good woman, you know. Just so... uh-... how you say, 'hard-headed' auh? Stubborn like ass. Still won't get off my back about those women at Kaloskov Station, man! They approach me, how I say no? You talk to her, okay? Tell her I am not the bad guy!" Ladon said, jostling at Dorsett's arm as he begged for his assistance.
"Alright, alrigh- c'mon, get off ah' me... I'll talk to her, christ. Jus' give her some 'space' in the meantime, alright? Last thing I need is Margeret on my ass too." Dorsett responded, pulling away from Ladon's grasping hands as he smirked. Ladon nodded vigorously and fiddled with the fuse while Dorsett turned away, took a few steps, and keyed his headset.
Spoke Dorsett, again followed by a few moments of silence.
Came the reply, still a garbled mess and barely discernable. Dorsett sighed, turning back to Ladon.
"Can you take a look at the communications system when you get done fuckin' around in here? Transmissions are comin' in a little messy recently." He inquired, a little more venom in his tone than he'd meant.
Ladon turned, a frown drawing across his face, and nodded his head, "Uh-... yes, yes I will take a look at that. Probably just local interference from the station." He replied, before moving past Dorsett and setting off for the crew quarters without so much as a goodbye. Dorsett shook his head, regretting having taken out his frustration on his friend like that. He lingered for a few seconds before taking his leave from the storage room, through the airlocks and again past Eli, still methodically organizing various first aid equipment in the medical suite, before arriving back at the command deck. He sat back down in his chair, once more eyeballing the stack of paperwork with contempt, using his foot to push the stack further under the console and out of view. A few of the other crew members brushed past him and his command seat, tending to their duties in preparation to undock, Dorsett taking in the scene for a moment.
Coil gun ammunition was being fed in belts to the loader, gun crews polishing the periscopes and running the weapons through the usual test procedures. Two assistants were arguing over who had a more efficient route to the next station. New hires, thought Dorsett, not recognizing them immediately. Chance was setting the last railgun round into the feeder, glancing back at Dorsett every so often with his usual scowl. Ballast pumps were operating nominally according to the monitor in front of Dorsett, and he took the opportunity to run a quick check through all of the vessel's sub-systems, all of which reported green.
Satisfied, Dorsett checked the onboard surveillance just in time to see Leopold Bower and Margeret Silvia board the ship with the last of the crates. He keyed the intercom.
Dorsett nodded to the Helmsman, another new hire, who began to detach the Wretch from the station and fill the Ballasts. As if on queue, the submarine rumbled to life, reactor power coursing through the vessel's wired veins. As he always did, Dorsett sucked in a breath and said a quick prayer to whatever god was listening. He counted off the seconds in his head, placing a hand on the detach lever as he did so.
As he pulled the lever and the submarine groaned free of the docking port, plunging down deeper into the water below, Dorsett muttered the same words he'd heard Captain Reyes speak before countless dives.

clarifying things about the story of Final Crisis: Superman Beyond that many people didn't understand (long post).
Although it will soon be 16 years since its publication, the story of Final Crisis: Superman Beyond continues to be a source of misinformation and controversy. Whether due to Grant Morrison's particular way of telling stories, whether due to his strongly metaphorical writing or simply poor reading comprehension (something that seems to abound among comic book readers), there are many elements that are still a matter of debate about the same.
For these reasons, I decided to make this article, where I will try to resolve the most frequently asked questions about this story, and above all, clarify the power of the Thought Robot.
Without further ado, let's start by explaining the context and then what interests everyone.
1) WHAT HAPPENS IN FINAL CRISIS: SUPERMAN BEYOND?:
Superman Beyond is, above all, a story about the concept of stories and the role of superheroes in them in the DC universe. For those who haven't read it, I'm going to do a super quick summary: during the Final Crisis, Lois falls seriously ill and is admitted to the Metropolis hospital. Then Superman is visited by Zillo Valla, one of the monitors, who offers him the chance to save her wife in exchange for helping her save the multiverse.
Zillo has also recruited other Supermans from different universes with similar promises, including Overman, Captain Adam, Shazam from Earth-4, and Ultraman from the antimatter universe. Zillo's ship is attacked and ends up crashing into Limbo. There, Superman and Shazam find an infinite book that reveals the origin story of the monitors and about the enemy they face, known as Mandrakk, the dark monitor.
When Mandrakk's forces attack Limbo, Captain Adam manages to contact the Monitor-Mind, and uses that knowledge to merge the consciousnesses of Superman and Ultraman, which ascend to a higher dimension (the sphere of the monitors) and activate the Thought Robot, a weapon created to combat Mandrakk. There, Superman is greeted by Monitor Weeja Dell, and the Monitors' true nature is revealed as parasites that feed on the Bleed.
Mandrakk was banished for forcing them to confront this fact. Finally, Mandrakk appears and kills Zillo Valla, but Superman manages to defeat him by expelling him into the Overvoid. Superman carves words into a tomb and takes a vial of refined Bleed with him before returning to Limbo, where he and the other Supermans destroy Mandrakk's army. Lois is saved from her when Superman transfers the Bleed extract to her with a kiss.
Ultimately, Ultraman is turned into a vampire by Rox Ogama, Mandrakk's disciple, who swears revenge, and it is revealed that the words Superman carved into the tomb were "To be continued...", in reference to the cyclical nature of Ultraman's history. superhero comics.
2) ABOUT THE NAME "COSMIC ARMOR":
Before continuing with the explanations, it is important that we clarify that, contrary to popular belief, the robot used to fight Mandrakk is not called "Cosmic Armor". "Cosmic Armor" is an adjective that Mandrakk uses to refer as a mockery to this robot in two moments of the fight (which are actually the same, only one is a flashforward), but this is not a real title, nor much less is it called that.
https://imgur.com/a/R8TYnL1
https://imgur.com/a/tf4qLk2
And the truth is that the name of the machine is... well it has no official name. At no point in the comic is he assigned a specific name. The closest is when, on two occasions, two characters refer to it as a "Thought Robot" or a "Thought Robot": once by Captain Adam and once by Weeja Dell.
https://imgur.com/a/uDED6zM
https://imgur.com/a/amC6YiN
And that's basically what it is: a living weapon with a body of pure thought, created to combat the ultimate enemy. So the most correct name to refer to the entity is Thought Robot, and not "Cosmic Armor", since it is not even armor.
https://imgur.com/a/WcVSjOk
https://imgur.com/a/amC6YiN
3) THE BOOK OF INFINITE PAGES:
One of the most controversial moments in the comic occurs when Superman and Shazam hold a book with infinite pages, and said book is later lifted by Ultraman, who claims to have read the last page. This makes many wonder if it is a legitimate feat, since it implies that Superman and Shazam have infinite strength and that Ultraman is stronger than both of them combined. The reality of the feat is much more complex.
https://imgur.com/a/0qqiXIX
The context behind the book is that this is a literal plot device that, symbolizing the infinite monkey theorem (Merryman makes the reference), retroactively contains every possible book in the DC universe. The infinite pages of the book occupy the same physical space (so the mass is ambiguous), due to which Superman and Shazam could not read it and tried to take it to Zillo Valla's ship.
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teorema_del_mono_infinito
https://imgur.com/a/uGHROmM
They fail, and instead, the book reveals the existence of the Monitor-Mind and the history of the Monitors, causing Shazam to have a premonition with the key to defeating Mandrakk. Which means that, of the infinite stories in the book, Superman and Shazam only access one, the original story about the same story concept. Now, many say that the book cannot be infinite because Ultraman moves it and claims that it has an end. This is wrong.
https://imgur.com/a/FHzOHZj
https://imgur.com/a/I2XSYrg
Ultraman can see the end of the book and move it because the book is, as we have already said, a literal representation of all the DC stories, and Mandrakk was destroying those same stories and moving towards the multiverse. That's why Ultraman says that "evil wins in the end." The meaning behind this symbolism is that superhero stories are infinitely cyclical and these can only end if evil defeats good, which would make the book stop being infinite as there are no more stories.
https://imgur.com/a/DSUMTg3
In short, the feat is legitimate, but only because the book was no longer infinite as Mandrakk destroyed the stories he tells. We'll talk about Mandrakk's plot manipulation below. Breathe easy Superman nerfers, you no longer need to continue inventing far-fetched excuses to nerf the character you hate.
4) HOW BIG IS THE THOUGHT ROBOT?:
This issue has been highly debated over the years due to the lack of reading comprehension of many readers, ranging from people who claim that it is only 6 meters tall because it is a little bigger than the monitors to those who say it is bigger than the entire omniverse (?). To understand the reality about the size of the Thought Robot, it is essential to first know its history.
The Monitor-Mind sent a probe to examine a"glitch" (which was, in fact, the stories concept) within itself, and said probe would eventually split into two halves, one of which would become a Thought Robot, at the same time the fault was sealed behind it with divine metals, giving rise to the orrery of worlds. The sphere and civilization of the monitors was formed around said structure.
https://imgur.com/a/kdMn6Mq
In this place we can see how this Thought Robot has a size similar to that of the planetarium (and in passing "billions of worlds" are mentioned, denying that there are only 52 universes), which is consistent with that shown in the flashbacks. The famous scene that many believe is the Though Robot "lifting" a galaxy with a fingernail (it's not actually lifting anything) is, in fact, Limbo, which looks this small when viewed from this sphere.
https://imgur.com/a/VEBRwAG
https://gyazo.com/303e8d116a036fac1985c79dcae06843
Zillo Valla herself explains that mere nanomachines of the monitors are already gigantic war machines from the perspective of the realms below their sphere, including the sphere of the gods. So yes, the robot is bigger than universes and multiverses... simply because in the sphere of the monitors, everything that is on a human scale is already bigger than universes and multiverses.
5) HOW POWERFUL IS THE THOUGHT ROBOT?:
With the above, one could make the mistake of thinking that Mandrakk and the Thought Robot are only powerful because of their size relative to the planes lower than these, but nothing could be further from the truth. A casual attack from Mandrakk was enough to instantly kill Zillo Valla in the monitor sphere, and the Thought Robot withstood many attacks like that.
https://imgur.com/a/OCxkVE8
He also shook the entire sphere of monitors with his mere activation, which surrounds and is larger than the sphere of the gods, the planetarium of worlds and all the multiverses of these plus his bleedspace combined. He also devastated Nil in her clash against Mandrakk, city of the monitors, and cornerstone of the multiverse or even "a multiverse of multiverses", which also occupies an appreciable part of the sphere. (If you know a little about DC cosmology, I think there is no need on my part to explain his power level with the above.)

https://imgur.com/a/pAcRKQT
https://imgur.com/a/Bpyo1UI
https://imgur.com/a/AG3OTvh
https://imgur.com/a/XpjAsRJ
Unfortunately there is not much about his speed, although it is implied that he perceives the entirety of space-time in a non-linear manner, as well as being able to dodge Mandrakk's attacks, to which the monitors cannot react, and these scale above of the elves of the fifth dimension. So this is clearly incommensurable.
https://imgur.com/a/amC6YiN
https://imgur.com/a/ZIh5oXn
In short, an extremely powerful character.
6) WHAT ARE THE SKILLS OF THE THOUGHT ROBOT?:
One of the great ironies of the Superman Beyond story is that Mandrakk is unaware that he is Dax Novu and Thought Robot one of his original halves until the end of himself. For this reason, they both possess similar powers and abilities. On the part of the Thought Robot, it showed a very powerful reactive evolution that allows it to instantly adapt to any threat, so that the stronger Mandrakk became, the stronger he also became.
https://imgur.com/a/vzZQHTE
https://imgur.com/a/amC6YiN
https://imgur.com/a/pAcRKQT
He also demonstrated the ability to break the fourth wall, extending his hand to directly touch the reader (the original comic included 3D glasses to do the effect), denoting a certain superiority with respect to conventional DC narrative. He also possesses transdualism, being activated by the contradictory essences of Superman and Ultraman (Captain Adam himself states that there are no dualities, only symmetries).
https://imgur.com/a/rsZtCAU
https://imgur.com/a/uURRUj2
https://imgur.com/a/tSuw958
https://imgur.com/a/Y4TWipN
By the words of Captain Adam himself, Superman now shares (or even surpasses) his understanding of reality, which implies a high level of cosmic senses that translate into what was already mentioned above. Grant Morrison also considers that both this being and Mandrakk possess conceptual manipulation, respectively embodying various contradictory concepts such as good and evil, black and white, is and is not, etc.
https://imgur.com/a/Y4TWipN
https://www.ign.com/articles/2009/02/03/inside-the-mind-of-grant-morrison?page=3
It is also well served with resistance: it is a body of pure thought, so the manipulation of matter, soul or reality would be ineffective against it. Also the manipulation of the mind, since after Limbo, memory ceases to have meaning. Additionally, he resisted being destroyed by a self-assembled hyper-story created by Mandrakk, so he is also resistant to plot manipulation.
https://imgur.com/a/WcVSjOk
https://imgur.com/a/XpjAsRJ
https://imgur.com/a/ZIh5oXn
Lastly, both he and Mandrakk are resistant to existential erasure and void manipulation, as they were both originally part of the Monitor-Mind. In fact, Mandrakk survived a free fall into the Overvoid which is mentioned to have erased even his very idea, as seen in The Unexpected #2 and explained in The Unexpected #5.

7) DAX NOVU AND ROX OGAMA:
A very common confusion that I regularly see is seeing people confuse Dax Novu with Rox Ogama. I don't blame them, since they both call themselves "Mandrakk" and are physically very similar. The problem with this confusion is that it leads many people to draw wrong conclusions about the character's power level and spread misinformation under the well-worn pretext of consistency. However, they are not the same character.
The first thing to know is that "Mandrakk" is the title by which the dark monitor is known, but it is not the real name of either of the two. The Mandrakk we talk about in this article is Dax Novu, who was the first monitor to assume the title; The Mandrakk who appears at the end of Superman Beyond and Final Crisis is Rox Ogama, who assumes the title after Dax Novu's apparent death following his battle with the Thought Robot.
https://imgur.com/a/gAUGtlw
https://imgur.com/a/KR1lTWi
Of course, they are not even remotely comparable in power: Rox Ogama became more powerful than a regular monitor thanks to constantly vampirizing the bleed, but ended up pulverized by a joint attack by the Green Lantern Corps; Dax Novu not only survived his battle with the Thought Robot, but also with the Unexpected, which is why he is still alive today.

https://imgur.com/a/qriylYT
https://imgur.com/a/RwCvEgz
8) IS THIS THE MOST POWERFUL VERSION OF SUPERMAN?:
Technically this is not a "version" of Superman, as the events of Superman Beyond occur within the main Post Crisis continuity. Strictly speaking, it's not about Superman either, since the Thought Robot is something external to him that is managed jointly by his and Ultraman's consciousness. Rather than a version, it would be more appropriate to classify this being as a "mecha".
All those technicalities aside, yes, this is by far the most powerful Superman. By Captain Adam's indirect admission, he cannot even compare to this being, and Captain Adam is already one of the most powerful Supermans in the multiverse. Strange Visitor at most scales above Mister Mxyzptlk, and Prime-Superman (often incorrectly called "One Million") showed nothing remotely similar.
https://imgur.com/a/tSuw958
9) IS THIS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL BEINGS IN DC?:
The answer is an obvious no. While this entity is extremely powerful even by comic book standards, it is still a long way from being able to measure up to the top tiers of the verse. Both Perpetua and her children greatly surpass him in power and size, and we know that in turn beings that rise from her have no rival within the multiverse and can destroy its entirety, including the sphere of the monitors.
https://imgur.com/a/KhxJz4o
https://imgur.com/a/LU0PjPH
https://imgur.com/a/0yZXbaA
Similarly, Mandrakk damaged him beyond repair, and we know from Justice League Incarnate that Mandrakk is a mere avatar of The Great Darkness, along with beings that scale from Perpetua like The Batman Who Laughs. In turn, The Great Darkness is an opponent or rival of The Light / Monitor-Mind, with The Great Darkness being in turn an avatar of Lucifer, if we take vol 3 as canonical. (clarified that I'm not saying it is but it would only be if someone took it into their personal headcanon with current information).
https://imgur.com/a/O2R8CmU
https://imgur.com/a/rlQX8vT
https://imgur.com/a/JmsFFRl
https://imgur.com/a/RyF0LZP
https://imgur.com/a/6EaO4NM
Finally, Lucifer himself is a creation of The Presence to define himself in the face of the nothingness that entails embodying the sum of all concepts, according to his own words. We also cannot forget beings like the Eternals, with the entire multiverse of Perpetua (including the sphere of the gods) being among the things within the book of Destiny.
https://imgur.com/a/odFhCkM
https://imgur.com/a/XpjAsRJ
In short, the Thought Robot is very high on DC's power scale, but it is not even remotely among the strongest.
Anyway, I hope you have a good day/afternoon/night or when you read this, I for one will go to sleep.

Someone else like me?
(Sorry for my bad english) Hi! I found this case some weeks ago. Before KL's case, I had been watching a lot of video in youtube about misteries/crimes but this one was the first case that made freak me out and made me feel very bad for the victims. Once I didn't sleep a night. Obviously every victim of every case had a sad and tragic story but when I read about the disappearance and death of Kris and Lisanne I feel like they were my friends. I don't know how to explain it, maybe because I have many things in common with them (the same age when they lost and/or was killed, the fact I'm a university student in Europe who loves learning spanish), maybe because probably we never will know the truth... Am I the only?

2024.05.15 11:27 y547 Just a rant :(

Was on Instagram this morning and saw a little cute hammy that was pretty old, checked the comments: fatal mistake. Why are people so okay with killing small mammals? Some people straight up admit to doing it and are proud? There's horrible, gruesome ways in which hamsters may die, oftentimes due to negligence or bad care, but why would it ever be a fun, quirky story to tell? And the ones that died because their owners didn't know better. "Mine died because its friend/ sibling killed it" they aren't supposed to be housed together in most circumstances. "Mine died randomly after spilling water all over itself on a car trip" possible hypothermia or temperature shifts. "Mine just randomly died" There's so many genetic issues with pets from pet stores people don't know about too. Your hamster didn't die randomly because it's stupid and so fragile it's own reflection could end it, but likely because it came from a lineage of hamsters that were bred in mass, with poor conditions or care for genetics or issues associatied. I was ignorant like this as a kid, had 3 betta fish die because of bad pet store advice and it was horrible. It made me sad, made my parents sad, but now information is more available than ever. It's just one click away. (I have had betta fish live over 2 years now too, with proper care) Yet people are so ignorant.. and I have no issues with the ones that get advice and are quick to change their ways, in fact I'm proud of them, but some don't. They abuse their pets and why? This is so much bigger than hamsters too. It's mice, it's birds, it's turtles, it's cats, dogs, and even wild animals. I have had a dog since I was a kid and only now am I learning about dog behavior and how to interpret it. So many dogs seen as being cute or playful are actually stressed out. Their warnings get ignored and then they bite. Then they're a "bad dog", who bit out of nowhere. It stuck with me how little we understand about these creatures. We expect them to understand our "language", without understanding theirs. And don't get me started on giving pets to kids. It's vital that we teach children to respect animals and small animals should have never been seen as kid's pets. My cousin loves to pet my hamster, but he never touches it without me present to hold her. That's cause he's 3 y/o going 4. His hands are too forceful if I don't hold them and I know that if he had picked my hamster up he'd drop her or hurt her. I was no different at his age. If I had a hamster instead of fish when I was 6 they would've definitely died too. Kids aren't ready to be responsible for another living being, and rodents, fish and birds shouldn't ever have to be subjected to the mercy of a child. Where parents see a lesson about responsability, animals are trying to live and survive in an already stressful environment often with people that know nothing about their proper care. They can't speak, and their stress behaviors are often overlooked as fun little quirks and activities (monkey baring and cage biting/ chewing for example) It just makes me sad and hopeless that there are so many people who'd rather be ignorant, or straight up hurt animals for fun. I love hamsters, my current girl is my longest living one and I love her silliness. Honestly, it's very rewarding to have a happy small animal. I think people forget small animals are just as alive as we are. Thanks for reading so far if you have, this is a lot. I'm sorry for huge rant. And I hope it's rule-abiding. If anyone wants to add to it or share a silly hamster picture to make up for all the sad hamsters out there you're welcome to do so! <3

2024.05.15 11:25 AbletonRinzler Rinzler and Willow: Vaulted Reckoning - Mythbroken

"What is it with bad guys and being completely full of themselves? Montague's plan might possibly screw over Helios Island if his attack on Mount Olympus was something to go off of. And it appears he's getting as much help as he can. Staging a mutiny within the pantheon, conspiring to retake control of Helios Island... What else does Montague know that Willow and I don't? Well... I guess we'll find out soon enough, and it all starts from what the Greek Mythology would call a storied hero." Within Reckless Railways, at a local restaurant, Ableton Rinzler, Willow, Splode, and Deimos are all sitting at a table with both Aphrodite and Poseidon. Splode looks at Ableton and Willow and questions them. "So... Care to explain what's going on here? I'm kinda confused about everything that's happening right now, aside from those crazy armored guys attacking our home earlier." Ableton turns to Splode and answers him. "From what I can understand, Zeus is casting unfair judgement upon the people of Helios Island. Aphrodite and Poseidon first tried to appease Zeus by restoring the constellations to the Statue of Atlas in Mount Olympus, which didn't work. Alongside that, Montague is also planning who knows what with this whole Greek ordeal. He's begun recruiting various gods to try and take the pantheon down. Whatever he's planning, it doesn't seem good." Poseidon looks at everyone and speaks. "Alright. So everything seems kinda bad now, with that mortal recruiting gods against the pantheon. But there still is one bigger mystery. That being Pandora's Box. After it opened, and the troubles and woes were cast onto Helios Island, it suddenly went dormant. If the mortal's plan to defeat Zeus fails, he could turn to Pandora's Box as a last resort. After all, he has Medusa with him, and she's very familiar with the magic behind Pandora's Box." Aphrodite looks at Poseidon with fear and responds. "Then that means that the mortal might bring something worse onto the island. Something that might challenge Zeus on a cosmic level. Something ancient... and evil..." Ableton looks at Aphrodite and responds to her. "I got someone who can help out with our little problem with Montague." The group then leaves the restaurant, as they begin venturing towards the edges of Helios Island. From the rooftops of Reckless Railways, Montague and Medusa are overseeing the group's plan. "So those two think they can stop me? They will certainly be halted in their tracks." Medusa turns to Montague and speaks to him. "I've always loathed Zeus... But his time grows short. Together, we will make it shorter. Over the years he's surrounded himself with powerful items. A gauche show of his absolute rule. Fortunately for us, they're not his items. Most of them were made by me. Stolen from me. I think it's about time we reclaim my property, don't you?" Montague chuckles, as he holds the Shadebox in his hands. "We hold the key to starting a Greek Tragedy! Once Zeus and his pantheon are dealt with, I will soon be able to rebuild The Society and rule over Helios Island once more!" As Montague and Medusa slowly advance towards Mount Olympus, Medusa speaks to Montague. "Perseus will deal with those troubling mortals you desperately despise." Over near the edge of Helios Island, past Snooty Steppes, the group arrives at an unmarked house. Willow looks at Ableton and speaks. "This is the place, right?" Rinzler faces Willow and answers her. "It should be. Silas did say he and his Rogues ransacked a house near the edge of the island. This has to be the place he was talking about." Splode looks at Ableton and responds to him. "Alright! Let's get the party started!" Splode walks up to the door and knocks hard. Katt's voice is heard, as she speaks up. "Who's there? We're currently closed at the moment." Ableton walks towards the door and responds. "It's Ableton Rinzler. We're here to see Silas Hesk, if he's around." The door opens, as Katt walks out. "Silas is a little busy, but I'll see if he's open for anything." Everyone enters the house, as it is filled with crates, all of which are filled with weapons and ammunition. Katt knocks on a door, marked with an ouroboros, as she speaks. "Silas! Your two favorite clients are here!" The door opens, as Silas speaks up. "I can tell by the look on your faces that something's up." Ableton looks at Silas and speaks. "There's currently some conflict going on among the Greek Gods that currently inhabit Helios Island. A large chunk of which was caused because of Montague. You wouldn't happen to know how to stop a god... or several of them." Silas looks at Ableton and answers him. "I have done many bounties within my criminal career, but not one against a god." Aphrodite looks at Silas and responds. "But we're not trying to kill my father, but to quell his judgement." Poseidon then backs up Aphrodite, as he walks forward. "Zeus is casting unfair judgement upon the mortals of this island, and this crazed mortal seeks to take advantage of this. He's taken steps necessary to supposedly start a tragedy among the pantheon." Silas facepalms and responds. "Of course Montague would go to such lengths. He's probably pissed about The Society losing control of Helios Island that he's resorting to such measures. I'll lend my services to your cause." Silas then turns to Lana Llane and speaks. "Lana! We got a job to do." Lana grabs her Striker AR and assists the group in their plan. Once they exit the house, Aphrodite is quick to notice the glowing blue eyes on the statue over at Mount Olympus. She turns to everyone and speaks. "Something's happening at Mount Olympus, and it doesn't look good." Deimos looks at Aphrodite and responds. "Great... Just another problem to deal with..." A faint DMR shot is heard, as Poseidon reacts. "Everyone! Watch out! Someone must've followed us!" Over near one of The Society's forecast towers, Perseus scopes in with his Huntress DMR, as he aims for Aphrodite. "Let's see Zeus mourn the death of his beloved daughter. Medusa and the mortal cannot be stopped." Perseus fires another shot, as Poseidon puts his hand in front of Aphrodite's face. The bullet gets stuck in Poseidon's hand, as he quickly pulls it out. "Distant combat... This must be the work of Perseus, the Storied Hero." Aphrodite looks at Poseidon and questions him. "Why would he ally himself with Medusa and the mortal?" Ableton faces Aphrodite and answers her question. "Because Montague and Medusa likely promised him something if they succeeded in ending Zeus' rule." Poseidon notices a structure right near Pleasant Piazza, as he yells out. "To that structure! We can try to see what the scrying pool foretells over there." Everyone begins running towards the structure, as Perseus continues firing shots at the group and missing. They eventually reach the scrying pool, as Silas and Lana begin fending off Perseus' attack. Aphrodite yells out to the scrying pool in a worried tone. "What is going on at Mount Olympus? Why is the statue brimming with Zeus' power?" The scrying pool bubbles up, as it then shows an apparition of Zeus' Stormforged Hourglass. Ableton looks at the apparition and responds. "An hourglass? What could this mean?" Poseidon responds with fear. "Zeus' Stormforged Hourglass! It brims with Zeus' energy. If Perseus is here, then the other gods working with the mortal are likely commencing an assault on Mount Olympus." Aphrodite looks at the scrying poll and yells again. "Where is Hades and Cerberus?!" The scrying pool then projects Helios Island within the water, as both Hades and Cerberus appear to be marching through Reckless Railways on their way to Mount Olympus. Aphrodite looks at Ableton and Willow and yells. "We need to get to Mount Olympus! If the mortal is over there, he will doom us all if he gets Zeus' Stormforged Hourglass." The group then makes their way to Mount Olympus, while under heavy pursuit by Perseus. Over at Mount Olympus, hell has broken loose. Several of Zeus' minions attempt to protect the main palace, but are quickly shot down by Ares. Artemis and Apollo try to hold back Medusa, while Montague opens the Shadebox and unleashes the souls within, contaminating all the water within Mount Olympus. The souls from the Shadebox begin tampering with the water, almost matching the same composition as the River Styx. Medusa knocks down both Artemis and Apollo, as both Hades and Cerberus arrive at the battle. Montague points at the main palace and yells. "Time to dethrone Zeus and claim my rightful power!" Everyone then runs towards the palace, as they collectively confront Zeus. Montague holds up the Challenger's Staff and opposes Zeus. "Your reign over Helios Island will end, blunder god!" The group then begins their attack on Zeus, as he begins holding everyone back with several bolts of lightning. Ableton and the group arrive at Mount Olympus, as Aphrodite quickly spots both Artemis and Apollo, who are wounded from Montague's attack on Mount Olympus. Aphrodite runs towards the two and speaks. "What happened to you two?" Artemis shrivels her response to Aphrodite, as she points to the main palace. "The mortal has recruited gods to threaten Zeus' rule. Your father can't hold him back for long." A stray lightning bolt flies out of the palace, as Poseidon reacts. "We gotta get to the palace!" Everyone rushes towards the palace, as they witness Montague using the Challenger's Staff to weaken Zeus. Aphrodite yells in fear, as both Silas and Lana begin firing at Montague. Medusa and Ares protect Montague, while he tries to collect the Stormforged Hourglass from Zeus. Splode tosses some Cluster Clingers at the opposing group, until Hades shoots them out of the air with his Harbinger SMG. Cerberus fires his Gatekeeper Shotgun into the group, as Montague yells out to Ableton and Willow. "You've toiled my affairs for the last time." Montague kicks the now weakened Zeus towards Aphrodite, as he pulls out the Stormforged Hourglass. "Now! Terminal power is mine to wield! Watch as I use my newfound power to take back Helios Island and rebuild my Society!" Montague's hands now brim with lightning, as he holds the Stormforged Hourglass in the air. Lightning spews from his hand, as storm clouds form above Montague. Medusa nods at Montague, as he begins manipulating the lightning to strike near Restored Reels. The storm clouds clear, as Willow looks at Montague. "What did you do?" Montague looks at Willow without answering her, as Ableton yells. "What the hell did you do?!" Montague points to the door, as both groups head outside. Over at Restored Reels, Pandora's Box has been heavily damaged by the lightning Montague charged up. Ableton looks behind him and yells. "Montague, you little..." Both Montague and Medusa get away, as Aphrodite speaks. "What did the mortal do?" Hades faces Aphrodite and responds. "He and Medusa tricked us. He wanted power, but not just to defeat Zeus. He seeks to awaken the Titan." Deimos looks at Hades and reacts. "The what?" Poseidon helps Zeus up, as he answers Deimos. "The Titan resides within Pandora's Box. A partial piece of him escaped when the mortal first opened Pandora's Box. Now that it's damaged, he and Medusa now have a chance to unleash true ancient evil. And with Zeus' Stormforged Hourglass, the mortal now has a means to an end." Cerberus faces Aphrodite, Ableton, and Willow and speaks. "If the mortal isn't stopped, he will awaken the Titan and doom the island and Zeus' pantheon. All this to establish what he would call his perfect Society." Aphrodite and Poseidon face the group with urgency and yells. "To Restored Reels! We gotta stop that mortal from awakening the Titan!" Splode faces Aphrodite and speaks. "But can we make a stop first? I kinda need Ableton and Willow to drop me off for my afternoon TV binging." Ableton facepalms and responds to Splode. "Fine, we'll take you back and grab Stratus for this. We just gotta stop Montague before he dooms us all... again." Everyone all runs out of Mount Olympus, as the skies slowly turn black. True godlike power wasn't just normally stolen, it was elaborately stolen with destructive intent. Montague, now having powers of a god, will do anything it takes for him to rebuild The Society. Even potentially putting the entirety of Helios Island at risk, again. Oh well. Just another problem for Willow and I to solve. The secrets of Pandora's Box seeks to break free. To awaken true ancient evil.

2024.05.15 11:22 mihnutza Odysseus story

So I just got the Odysseus conversation in which he mentions that he is separated from Penelope and on cordial terms with Telemachus. Personally not a fan of breaking them up, but hey thatโ€™s just my bias. I feel like the game is going for the Odysseus death story in which he goes crazy ish by the end of his life and returns to die at sea, which I donโ€™t necessarily hate. Itโ€™s much better than the version in which he gets killed off by his and Circeโ€™s son and then both him and Telemachus marry each otherโ€™s mothers. True motherlover stuff.
Onto my question, do you think that his story line will be about him getting back on good terms with his family or is he content with how things are?
My personal interpretation is that, considering he brought some war buddies and his dog as shades to help him, maybe he is deliberately lying to Melinoe to not involve his family in something dangerous?

2024.05.15 11:21 happybirthdaypii My boyfriendโ€™s sister and his ex are still close. How to deal with it?

Hello friends, just want to ask something about dealing with these kind things. I (F23) is in a relationship with (M26), his sisterโ€™s one year older than me. This is my first relationship and Iโ€™m really a very chill person hindi ako selosa and lalong hindi malisyosa. Sometimes (most of the time) bothered talaga ako sa ex niya kasi she keeps in touch with the sister
Backstory: Bf and his ex were in a relationship for 5 years. Families are close and of course, his sister and his ex are close- siblings are close with the sister. Sadly, after 5 years broke up because they were both toxic - mostly si ate girl but it takes two to tango sabi nila diba.
Going back, Iโ€™m really bothered kasi gusto ko maging close kami ng kapatid niya which is hard as hell because super introvert laging nasa room niya and not really a โ€œsocialโ€ person. Iโ€™m so bothered when I see them interacting on each otherโ€™s posts kahit na in reality wala naman akong right manghimasok sa life ng kapatid niya. plus I found out that ate girl (ex) wants to meet the sister sometimes to hang. It makes me overthink because what if humihindi lang siya because iniisip niya kapatid niya (bf ko) when in reality she really wants to hang.
Yung si ate girl nagpapadala pa ng food and gifts for the sister ganyan like idk what sheโ€™s trying to prove. All of these just happened nung kami na ng bf ko- when I entered the story. I asked my bf directly if okay ba ako sa kapatid niya and he said yes. Even the sister said yes but the point is - How am I supposed to prove myself or like make a bond with his sister when the ex is in the way? Isnโ€™t that common sense that you have to back off when someone already has a lover?
Nakikita ko nagrereact siya sa posts nung ex pero sakin hindi, shares the posts of the exโ€™s family pero sakin hindi. Medjo nahurt din sa part na hindi niya binati yung mom ko ng happy birthday and happy motherโ€™s day even reply sa posts ko about it.
Please help because gusto ko mawalan ng paki but I canโ€™t

2024.05.15 11:21 BrandoSandoFanTho Hyperion & Fall of Hyperion

I know it's technically a four-part series, but I just want to talk about the first two books.
I've listened to the audiobooks (all four in sequence) I think two times previously, and I'm currently re-listening/'reading' the series again (only have 8h left on the 2nd audiobook), and I just want to talk about how incredible these two books are.
The prose, the imagery; as someone else said on here a while ago, every pilgrim's story in book 1 could be it's own entire novel, entire world, entire standalone story. But the way it's all weaved together is just incredible..
Book 2's depictions of Brawne & the Keats persona in the datasphere/megasphere and the discussion with Ummon, the Shrike's tree of pain with Martin Silenas quoting poetry at his presumably dead Sad King Billy, those brutal deserter soldier guys that captured The Consul and how he was rescued.. Joseph Severn and how he dreams of the events on Hyperion whilst still dealing with his own traumatic ass shit...
...Just.. all of it.
I think these two books are some of the height of sci-fi. I've read & listened to a decently wide variety of sci-fi, so all input & recommendations are welcome.

2024.05.15 11:16 HughMann334 Tale of Grimm: The Storyteller [RULES IN COMMENTS]

Tale of Grimm: The Storyteller [RULES IN COMMENTS]
Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess that lived in a luxurious castle. She wore the most gorgeous clothing, ate the most decadant food, and was doted on by more servants than she could ever remember.
However, she did not always live like this. Once upon a time, she was instead a miserable girl, and every night, she would sit by the window, weeping to the moon. You see, the princess did not have any royal blood, she needed to marry a prince instead. This would not be a problem, but the prince of her kingdom was no prince charming. He was a wicked man, with a twisted sense of love.
Years ago, when the princess was still a girl, she lived in squalor, another peasant in the streets of the desert kingdom. Yet, where she lacked in riches, she made up for in knowledge. The girl would always read stories about brave warriors defeating monsters andrescuing beautiful princesses. She longed to be the princess, saved from poverty by a handsome prince. But, no matter how long she waited, she realised that her prince would never come. So, instead of waiting for a prince, she would find one.
The girl became a concubine of the prince, one of dozens of women simply trying to survive. Unlike them, however, she had an iron will, a resolve like no other. Sadly, it seemed that the prince would always try his damnedest to break that will into pieces. Nights of abuse, all simply because of her brilliance. It was a sight of despair, not even the other women could comfort her. Only the stories of her childhood could bring her comfort... and it was only the stories that would save her life.
One night, the wicked prince found the girl reading one of her stories and, in a fit of rage, ordered her to read the story to him, lest her head be cut off! The girl did as she was told, but instead of being on the receiving end of a beating, the prince was enthralled! He loved the stories, and ordered her to read one to him every night! She was placed into her own quarters, with her own bed, and even a few servants of her own! It was then that she realised what she needed to do.
And so, every night, the girl would read the prince stories, more and more, night after night. The prince began to fall in love with the girl and her stories, and eventually he married her! Her childhood dreams had come trueโ€ฆ but why stop here?
She did not love this rotten bastard. Why should she be happy reading him stories like a child? No, she wouldnโ€™t read the stories anymoreโ€ฆ she would write them. She would become the author of her own talesโ€ฆ after all, itโ€™s called history, isnโ€™t it?
Well, long story short, she lived happily ever after!
What, you expected me to tell you the whole story? Come now, thatโ€™s no fun. Every good story needs a bit of suspense~
When the time is right, you shall know the rest of the story, how I- er, I mean- โ€œthe girlโ€ rose to power. In the meantime, why not tell you a different story?
Once upon a time, there was a girl, abandoned by her family, rejected by the world. She was nothing more than a miserable thief. However, through wit and cunning, she rose up in the world. No more would she settle for cold porridge, she would eat the best food, sleep in the best beds, have the greatest riches!
But wealth was not all she wanted. No, she desired nothing more than revenge.
In her quest for revenge, she became a puppeteer, manipulating the shadows to do her bidding, and as a result, gathered nine others, all abandoned by society, and promised them power unimaginable.
Amongst the lot, was a terrifying monster. The deadliest in the animal kingdom. A beast most foulโ€ฆ or should I say, fowl?

2024.05.15 11:14 Ubud_bamboo_ninja Upgrade of Famous 3D Worm in a 2D Universe Thought Experiment (imagining the true nature of higher dimensions)

Upgrade of Famous 3D Worm in a 2D Universe Thought Experiment (imagining the true nature of higher dimensions)
Computational dramaturgy suggests that stories might be the primal fundamental force of reality. All conscious beings follow some goals of a certain set of stories each moment of now, and they move toward the goal in time, as detected by a side observer.
That is the capsule of โ€œstory makingโ€ that is usually called dramaturgy, and the world of humans is mostly learned and seen through it. The big idea of computational dramaturgy is that there might be a higher reason, a higher entity in a higher dimension that serves as a source of this โ€œstory makingโ€ matrix of reality or even dramaturgical potential radiation. In a certain sense, our reality is a bunch of stories happening, and if they are primal, there must be a field or a source of stories, much like how 2D geometry is a โ€œsourceโ€ of Pi.
Pi is the story about the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and it approximately equals 3.14159. This is a fundamental story of every 2D circle, at any place and any time. But different circles are engaged in real-time 3D world stories, and they all act as characters in the story. Understanding this relation of โ€œPi,โ€ someone could predict the needed number of materials to build a circle-shaped building. So, this Pi story, when understood by an observer, can bring him some use and some advantage, providing some freedom of prediction. To imagine the dramaturgical, story-making source that brings sense to our lives, letโ€™s refer to the famous โ€œ2D world and a 3D wormโ€ experiment, but we will seriously update it.
https://preview.redd.it/wa2al0e33k0d1.jpg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08b82096900654ea09bf8584778996f1d8e59e58
The classical thought experiment suggests we imagine our human world as a 2D paper sheet, and a higher-dimensional 3D worm in this case would make bizarre transitions when observed from the flat 2D world. The 3D worm can go through the paper, and the paper people will see only a circle out of a big worm. The 3D worm can appear at any place on the 2D sheet and break the rules of nature for the poor 2D people. Now letโ€™s imagine something next level. If actually โ€œstory making,โ€ dramaturgy is primal, it can be seen as this 3D worm that penetrates the paper sheet at any place it wants and can simultaneously be in many places because the worm's body can bend and go through the paper again and again. Similar storylines, stereotypes of people, and types of stories are all part of this visualization of a Dramaturgy like a 3D worm in 2D reality. We will see the same types of stories like โ€œkilled a bug,โ€ โ€œbaked a cakeโ€ many times and in many places throughout history. And every time it happened, it was sort of the same body of the higher-dimensional entity that is dramaturgy.
https://preview.redd.it/aifvqrr83k0d1.png?width=850&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b305b1ab310ef05b2666085912addf62925f3a3
So letโ€™s imagine that the story-making source is watching us, flat people. But one sheet of paper only equals 1 Planck time. And that 3D worm of dramaturgy sits somewhere in its realm and watches a big tower of papers, stacked one on one. And each paper of a separate tower is a 1 Planck long moment of existence of a certain fate holder. A body that produces dramaturgy that is stuck in that pile of paper. Now imagine the 3D worm is looking at all of these papers all at once.
https://preview.redd.it/bi8h4eqi3k0d1.png?width=850&format=png&auto=webp&s=cb74bf864ac8039d55680944d883b976c12149f9
And each paper contains your coordinates and the coordinates of your dramaturgical effect on the world. And most importantly, the worm sees similarities of all dots on every paper, and it knows what dot is connected to another one. It sees all human life as a single โ€œbudโ€ made out of the papers with information of possible stories that a main character of this bud can be involved in. Usually, this โ€œbudโ€ is bushy and meaty in the middle ages of the person, when we are capable of producing a lot of stories. It starts from โ€œ0โ€ at birth and ends after your death when you are no longer capable of producing live stories.
So the 3D worm of dramaturgy looks into those possible interconnections of a human fate in the bud of his life, as a side viewer, and tries to predict what is the best configuration of dramaturgical potentials that should happen at each layer of 2D flat reality that the bud consists of. The closest thing that comes to mind as an analogy is a beehive, cultivated by a person. But the beehive is made of layered sheets, and all the human owner is concerned about is to get more honey out of each hive, ensuring it is of good quality and that the hive doesnโ€™t die because of taking away some portion of honey. Instead, some syrup might be put in for replacement.
Maybe modern intense story-creating life has been put on that syrup for a long time already. So the story making is detected and modified if needed by that 3D worm because it sees all of life from start to end as the same โ€œbudโ€ of a flower. The furthest speculation can be based on the analogy to the flower and its natural fundamental behavior, such as following the golden ratio. If a lotus is how our life really looks from a side, it means that maybe life, in general, has the same purpose as a flower: to reproduce, to blossom once and give potential birth to hundreds of new worlds.
Maybe this mechanism of spreading higher-dimensional influence into lower dimensions is also fundamental and mandatory for each new dimension upcoming. In some sense, it doesnโ€™t conflict with modern scientific theories. The worldโ€™s end might look like a singularity event (a seed of a new tree) or as a heat death scenario when the seed didnโ€™t get the right place to grow, and the plant and seed just died. Hindu tradition also believes similar things.
The greatest challenge is to try to understand what is the motivation of that strange higher dimensional 3D worms behind the curtain? We see itโ€™s fundamental effect on our reality but we just donโ€™t have tools to see other properties of that worm. It will always slip away from our attention.Logically one thing can be stated for sure and it is already something: If the worm of dramaturgy is harvesting our reality and our lives as a honey, that means there is a โ€œother type reason for thatโ€ Like he needs a honey to feed his baby or sell at the market.
We canโ€™t know his real reason for producing honey because we are the bees, we canโ€™t understand bee keeperโ€™s world economy situation. It is out of our world. Just keeping this in mind we can state that higher dimensional entities that cause our story making reality do it for a higher dimensional reason like selling the honey on Sunday market. We will have to accept that those reasons for our world to happen might never be understood by us because they are of a higher reason but very situative reason! It could be something of a "not a big deal" type.
Fore more thought experiments in QD framework just google "quantum dramaturgy" or check out this book about it's basics.

2024.05.15 11:13 Pemulis_DMZ The calamity of Jane's character arc in the Deadwood movie. An epilogue to yesterday's movie review.

Thanks to all the hoopleheads who commented on my review of the Deadwood movie yesterday (linked below for anyone curious). With the exception of a couple limey cocksuckers, I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on the film and gained an appreciation for certain parts of the movie.
There is one major character from the movie I didn't talk about though and that's because I think she deserves her own spotlight, sadly due to just how badly her character and storyline were written.
Calamity Jane is a tragic character in the Deadwood tv series. Spouting some of the most vulgar and hilarious lines in a show filled with hilarious vulgarity, Jane was nevertheless often an object of the viewer's pity due to her chronic and debilitating alcoholism stemming largely from her undeserved self-loathing. By the end of season three, while still not nearly out of the woods that is her addiction, Jane has found some semblance of happiness after rediscovering her passion for caring for others following Mose's shooting, interacting with the school children, and falling in love with Joanie Stubbs.
Jane's addiction (great band) and self loathing stemmed from two demons, as far as I see it: a misplaced desire to be what she could never be - a gun-toting, fearless cowboy of the fabled American West - and a rejection of who she really was - a woman with a nurturing soul but also with some tendencies seen as more traditionally masculine at a time when society's definition of what it meant to be a proper woman was extremely confining. By both falling in love with Joanie and accepting her nurturing nature, Jane both finally dispelled the misbegotten notion that she should be seen as a brave cowboy and also accepted who she really was.
Jane's story line was my favorite because, while my own maturation and self-realizations have been entirely different, similar to Jane my own self-acceptance didn't come after some dramatic event or grand realization. Life simply continued and I was lucky to finally mature enough to accept and love myself for who I am.
And then there's the movie, and not only is Jane's story line a simple rehash of S3 (a complaint made many times by many people about many of the characters) it fundamentally misunderstands what made her storyline satisfying. Fast forwarding past her contrived and rehashed love story with Joanie, Jane heroically shoots Harry Manning just as he was about to treacherously shoot Bullock to free Hearst.
I understand that Harry's assassination attempt mirrors the assassination of Wild Bill Hickock by the coward Jack McCall, lending Jane's rescue some poetic justice, but the idea that Jane's character arc would come to a satisfying conclusion by heroically shooting someone for all the town to see fundamentally misunderstands what was needed for her to find true happiness - self-acceptance not some bold display of traditional cowboy heroics - and what made her character a truly hopeful one by the end of the series.
The image I choose to keep of Jane is of her walking hand in hand with Joanie, leading the children to their new school. She's drunk, she still has her demons, but she's finding her place and learning not to be ashamed of it.
But instead of a nuanced character study with an understated ending that shows an incredible understanding and compassion for the human condition like what we got in the tv show, the movie gives us something pretty. Jane gets to be the heroic cowboy like some 1950's western tv show. In my opinion, this is a misguided way to wrap up a complicated, hilarious, and tragic character arc that had so beautifully shown that real happiness doesn't come from some dramatic display or event like we often imagine, but rather the quiet maturation that comes with learning to love yourself.
Thanks for reading my review. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, and as always those who disagree with me suck cock by choice. https://www.reddit.com/deadwood/comments/1crone3/longtime_fan_of_the_show_who_only_just_watched/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

2024.05.15 11:12 ogfanspired The Original Woman in White?

The Original Woman in White?
There are some shots in the opening sequence of The Pilot that I think may have more significance than is immediately apparent. This is the first:
https://preview.redd.it/zaq0soqkzj0d1.jpg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22c58dceb59cc27bf2eea6331b3f7fedc06f8845
Throughout the opening sequence, Mary is seen wearing a white nightdress. Given the first ghost hunt of the series involves a woman in white, that may not be incidental and this image of her at the top of the stairs may become important later.
Hereโ€™s another shot I keep puzzling over. When John re-enters the burning room after handing off Sam to Dean, we get a brief glimpse of Mary still pinned to the ceiling amid the flame. But, here there appears to be something hanging down from the ceiling in the middle of the room. Is that Maryโ€™s bloody nightdress? Is she now hanging from the ceiling rather than pinned to it? If so, that may be important, too.
https://preview.redd.it/izpxr9trzj0d1.jpg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=77ed18dfdbd07199230be6edbde99868900db2c4
The exterior of the Winchester home is also interesting for its similarity to the Welch home that we see later in the episode.
https://preview.redd.it/s5a2x1ao1k0d1.jpg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ab8992872c9d81b4460a6bcab6b34df0a5974f9
https://preview.redd.it/p9y1zmrq1k0d1.jpg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f53b0ed126afea05710e43f0b4a9d1bbf0d617e
The two houses arenโ€™t identical, but there are some marked similarities. Inside, the parallels are even more evident. Indeed, it seems the same set was used for both interiors, albeit with different dressing.
https://preview.redd.it/a4peqe0v2k0d1.jpg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9356f46170f436e4c4369450174f94aa80949189
Compare this shot with the one of Mary descending the stairs in the episode opening: in many ways, theyโ€™re identical. So, Iโ€™d like to return to the observation I made earlier about the white nightdress Mary is wearing and ask the question: was Mary a woman in white? Later in the series - in season 5, โ€œDark Side of the Moonโ€ โ€“ we learn that John left home for an indefinite time when Dean was a child. Did he leave her for another woman? Was John unfaithful to Mary?
A Naturalistic Reading The parallels between the Winchesters and the Welches suggest to me a number of interpretive possibilities. The first is that Maryโ€™s death was actually suicide, and the manner of it may have been hinted at in the shot I drew attention to earlier where it appeared her body might have been hanging from the ceiling. What if she hung herself from a light fitting and this was the true cause of the fire? There may be corroboration for this possibility in episode 9, โ€œHomeโ€ when Johnโ€™s former mechanic colleague says that the fire was caused by โ€œan electrical short in the ceiling or walls or somethingโ€. We only ever saw Maryโ€™s death from Johnโ€™s pov. Later in the season there are hints that Dean witnessed something, too, but heโ€™s never talked about what he saw. In โ€œHomeโ€ when Sam asks him about it he says he remembers the fire and the heat, and carrying Sam out the front door, then, after a pause he adds โ€œand, well, you know Dadโ€™s story as well as I do. Mom wasโ€ฆ.was on the ceiling. And whatever put her there was long gone by the time Dad found her.โ€ [My emphasis]. Itโ€™s possible Maryโ€™s supernatural death was a delusion John created because he couldnโ€™t face the guilt of being the cause of her suicide. Everything after that point would, in that case, be a shared psychosis that John imposed on his sons.
An Alternative Supernatural Reading Or, everyone died in the fire, and the Winchesters are spirits condemned to a purgatorial existence where they spend the rest of eternity fighting their demons. (Ghosts only see what they want to see).
A Metaphorical Reading On the other hand, maybe the parallel between the Winchesters and the Welches was intended to do no more than foreshadow that directly or indirectly, through her death, Mary would ultimately be the cause of her childrenโ€™s destruction just as surely as Constance killed hers. And maybe the whole kitโ€™n caboodle is just a metaphor for the way people trap themselves in a self-destructive nightmare when they canโ€™t let go of the past.
While speculating about possible interpretations of shots or scenes, Iโ€™m not suggesting that any of them represent โ€œwhat Supernatural really meansโ€. These are only alternative readings of the same material. They represent ways in which the show allows our imaginations to explore multiple worlds of possibility. Sometimes it does this overtly. For example, in Nightmare, when we are explicitly told that John never physically abused his children, but we are invited through the example of Max, and Samโ€™s response to it, to imagine a world of possibility in which it might have happened. As Sam himself puts it: โ€œa little more tequila and a little less demon hunting and we woulda had Max's childhood.โ€ http://www.supernaturalwiki.com/1.14_Nightmare_(transcript))
Other times the suggestions are more subtle. An image, or collection of images, or an ambiguous line of dialogue, can allude to what might have been: worlds of possibility in which Sam might have been a psychotic patient, or the brothers might have been ghosts, all the rich proliferation of meaning that has made Supernatural the most creatively inspiring show on television.

2024.05.15 11:08 Liv4This Unable to be comforted or consoled? How can I console myself then? CW // CSA & suicide

I am impossible to comfort or console. Iโ€™m inaccessible, unreachable, and nothing helps. My online friends try and they canโ€™t do anything so they just have to either deal with me self isolating or being too depressed (or busy having a meltdown) to really talk and hang out with them. I donโ€™t play the video games they do, theyโ€™ve tried to get me into them and I end up walking away from my computer because Iโ€™m immediately bored and I just let myself disconnect. They canโ€™t offer ideas like for me to drink some tea and to breathe or to have a favourite snack because I donโ€™t like tea and I donโ€™t like 90% of the food pyramid. They hate that they canโ€™t help me because Iโ€™ve comforted them before in the past, not recently of course, but Iโ€™ve reassured them, listened to them, gotten them to drink water or have their favourite comfort food and come down from meltdowns when their sky was fallingโ€ฆ but none of that I do for them, works for me when they try it.
I have never felt comforted by anyone. When I was a small kid (ages 4-9) if I was upset, I had no one to go to for a hug or anything (not that physical contact didnโ€™t make me panic). And usually most times I was upset as a kid, it was most likely because Iโ€™d gotten in trouble for something and dad beat me and locked me in my room. If I was still upset and crying when he apologised, I got screamed er some more and beat some more and then locked in the room for even longer until I was โ€˜over my shitโ€™.
Pre-K, if I was upset and crying and didnโ€™t immediately stop crying because they said to, I got yelled at and sent to the corner. Usually for the entire school week.
I was never comforted after. I was never consoled after. I just got yelled at and then the pre-k teacher would lie to my dad and say I stuck my tongue out at her, accused me of calling her a dummy (scandalous), etcโ€ฆ and then Iโ€™d get beaten at home wooooooo for not being able to โ€˜behave for a couple hoursโ€™ and I was gonna make the school call child protective services.
Idk if this is why I canโ€™t be comforted by anyoneโ€ฆ but what am I supposed to do? My friends canโ€™t help me. How do I help me?
I donโ€™t have any hobbies I really care about (as a kid my hobbies were staring at the wall and playing out a really messed up plot line with my toys (when I had toys, they got thrown out when I was 11). Itโ€™s hard for me to be engaged in things, Iโ€™m always in my head and nothing is enough to distract me or keep me busy. Iโ€™m not sure how I can comfort myself since my friendโ€™s canโ€™t as hard as they try.
TW// CSA & suicide.
The story Iโ€™d play out was a birthday party. Everyone brought gifts for the birthday girl and everyone had so much fun. Theyโ€™d play with the โ€˜toysโ€™ together, on the โ€˜playgroundโ€™ and theyโ€™d all eat giant sized play foodโ€ฆ and then the nonce shows up and his gift is the gift of trauma (he SAโ€™s the birthday girl, aka my stand-in) and heโ€™s beaten up by everyone. He gets arrested and heโ€™s so sad that everyone hates him that he hangs himself. After he does that, everyone loves him again and they feel so sad that he โ€˜felt like he had to take his lifeโ€™ and they immediately turn on the birthday girl, they beat her up, arrest her because how dare she? Itโ€™s her fault that a man is deadโ€ฆ if she hadnt been born, that man would still be alive. And scene. And I just played that storyline every single time I played with and I was always so afraid dad would find out and heโ€™d accuse me of being a pervert or something.

2024.05.15 11:04 Major_Cod_1548 I think my ex is trying to get me expelled and I don't know what to do ๐Ÿ˜ข

I won't give out real names so I'll just make some up because I don't want them to be angry if they ever find this. For context, me and my ex (sam) broke up a few months ago after we figured out we were going to different schools. She broke up over text and after that I never looked at her the same way since. We got together because I figured out she liked me but I didn't like her, it was from her ex (Emma) who slipped me a note saying her ex (sam) liked me. I actually liked had a crush on Emma because we knew more about each other then I knew about Sam. The only time I ever even heard Sam's voice was when she was saying "I'll smack the shit out of you if you do", sam and Emma were arguing about something but I thought they were going to fight, it was actually friendly?. I don't know how telling someone you'll beat the fuck out of them is a "friendly argument" but I went along with it. Me and Emma were talking about things with each other and got to know each other very well. She told me about her break up and how it hurt because Sam just walked up to her and said they should break up out of nowhere. I offered to try and help her out with the relationship between them and after a few days of talking that's when I realized it was one sided love and the day I realized I should never be a relationship therapist because I fucking suck. But yeah, I liked Emma but I was to nervous to tell her, I was giving hints because usually when we joked around and she said "I hate you" or something to make fun of me, I fuck with her and say something like "love you too buddy". We were great friends until she handed me the note and I don't know why but for some reason I actually started dating her ex without thinking about her, she thought her sam was trying to get back at her when really it was my fault. One day Emma told Sam that I didn't actually like her, I only liked her last year which was true but still got to me and that I only thought of her as a friend which made me mad and I cut her off, we would try our best to stay away from each other but one day she had a gf, let's name her, Stacy. Stacy was a year younger than Emma and I was making jokes about it and I was still feeling mad from her messages so I told Stacy she was using her to make Sam jealous and I showed Stacy the messages of everything, they broke up a few days after and I've been feeling like shit ever since. While me and Sam were dating, Sam got a missed call from Emma and When we tried to call her back she didn't answer. Messages, calls, video chat, any way we could. To let you guys know, she was also telling Sam she was going to end it if she didn't break up with me, so I could only think of the worst, what if she tried one last time before ending it, it was during the weekend so I was relieved when I saw her still alive at school. Fast forward to the break up. When I told Sam, she felt guilty for sending me the messages, a few weeks later we broke up and the only thing she was saying was that she felt bad about the messages and she going to a different school, sam went on to tell me that I was getting in the way of her studying even though she only sits on her phone for the whole period and doesn't do anything. I felt really hurt but I made myself happy for sam, I apologized to sam and told her that I was going to be deleting everything about us because I didn't want to be reminded of her and I didn't want the same for her either. I'm a over thinker and I have ADHD so I can admit I did tell her in advance to block me on all social media because one day I was going to try and talk to her again and end up sad when she blocked me for trying to talk to her and sure enough, after a few weeks I kept messaging her but then blocked her again because I felt to nervous to actually start talking. Fast forward to the important part of why they are trying to get me expelled. I started talking to Emma and apologized for everything I did to her, got with her ex instead of her, found out she had a crush on me this year and it got worse because I started dating her ex. So I think she was trying to break us up and then comfort me into dating her, I forgave her for that because love can change anything. My friend stopped showing up to school because he's home schooled now and a few weeks later the girl is emo and is barely talking to everyone. Sorry for that ๐Ÿ˜…, back to what I was talking about though, we were friends for a week and she told me we have to stop talking, this also was over text but this is after a incident happened between me and Sam's friend, let's call her horny girl or just hg for short, you'll love the reason for that name in a little bit trust me๐Ÿ˜ˆ. Emma was telling me we shouldn't talk, I asked her why and she said it's because of hg and she said she was going to IN HER WORDS "beat my ass if I got with Emma" I don't know why she gives a fuck but I think she thinks I would do that to get back at Sam, ngl if I really was a asshole I probably would have but I was going to use her because we both saw each other as friends and I kinda like her but ever since everything happened we were just awkward friends, and even if I did date her it would be dumb as hell because not only is she going to a different school but it's only two weeks before school ends. Not to sound rude but hg is on the bigger side and she is just weird, I was uncomfortable for the first week of dating Sam because hg would sit behind me and make lewd hand gestures and since Sam was facing me, she saw what she was doing and just laughed hystericly, a few sam told me was she was making jokes of Sam stroking my y'know, giving me a bj, us having intercourse and me putting my fingers in her, that's all I can remember but the rest she wouldn't tell me. I started laughing over the text until I realized she was serious and I got mad so the next day I went up to hg and told her that if she can talk shit then she can easily say it in front of my face, we started yelling and it ended with me saying i don't have to fight her because my sister can come up and beat her ass for me, my sister is known in multiple schools for her fights and some of her friends are at my school so if my sister didn't want to fight she could easily tell her friends to jump her. I'm a guy so I'm not hitting a girl unless I have to. The next day, Emma said we should stop talking and this time she ment it, I said okay I understand why you want to do that and I respect your decision and we blocked each other. I haven't been showing up to my classes and my teachers are asking if it's because of what's going on, I didn't want to cause anymore problems so I just lied and said ether I must have forgotten or I was just uncomfortable with someone, I didn't say names but I think they already knew. Yesterday I didn't show up to school and a teacher was telling the principal about my incident with hg, funny thing I want to tell you is I made a name for the friend group and it's the main three, I call them the hgg because they all are kinda kinky so I call them the horny girl group, I have some information I got from people and the personal experience so if they want to keep making shit up about me then I can easily leak it on here and on the school page. The other two girls are my ex and the second girl who all you need to know why she's in the group is because she showed us a picture, pointed at a random boy in the photo (a friend of mine whos in the school) and said that was her cruch and I can't make this shit up when I say this "I want him to make me pregnant" yeah go back and read a few more times. no typo, no mistake, you Read it correctly and to make it worse, WE'RE IN 8TH FUCKING GRADE, so lt that sink in. An 8th grade girl is saying some shit not even girls I've met in college would say๐Ÿ˜‚. And I have way more shit on my ex, the only thing I can say because I don't want to give you the best part was she used to watch certain videos and did stuff to herself when she would watch them, and you might be thinking of it's just hormones, that happens at that age. Bullshit๐Ÿ˜‚ she was 8 when she was doing it so you can't blame it on that. Back to the story, they have been saying stuff to the teachers I'm close to and not only trying to kick me out of a class (I don't go to, I just go because of the dogs) but they are telling the principal that I'm making them uncomfortable and some other shit I can't remember. But yeah, I'll give updates if anything bad happens๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

2024.05.15 11:02 Adeptus_Gedeon Few Lovecraftian inspirations from real life and beliefs

The article is intended primarily for Game Masters who play games in systems inspired by Lovecraftโ€™s works, such as Call of Cthulhu or Delta Green. However, I hope that other fans of cosmic horror will also find something for themselves here. The interesting facts presented here may also be interesting for people who do not know the work of The Loner of Providence, but some of the references may be unclear to them. The article contains several anecdotes โ€“ either from real history or from beliefs that exist in the real world, and suggestions on how they can be related to the Cthulhu mythology. So read about:
Invasion of the Sea Peoples
Ancient, super-advanced, fallen civilizations are one of the favorite motifs of fantasy. And truth be told, something similar happened in real history. Of course, in reality, the fallen civilizations did not have sci-fi supertechnology at their disposal, but their collapse still led to great destabilization. We are talking about the invasion of the so-called Sea Peoples, which took place at the turn of the 13th and 12th centuries BC. The Sea Peoples are mobile and warlike groups of people of unknown origin. They caused the collapse of several advanced cultures, including: Mycenaean and Hittite. Only the Egyptians managed to defeat them in a great battle. Well, the material for Lovecraftian inspiration is obvious. A mysterious army, coming out of nowhere, called the โ€žSea Peoplesโ€, leading to the fall of the most powerful human civilizations at that time? Let us add that, according to some historians, the descendants of the Sea Peoples destroyed by the Egyptians were the Philistines. Yes, the same Philistines, one of whose main deities was the well-known Dagon to Lovecraftomaniacsโ€ฆ Deep Ones say hello. Let us also add that, according to Egyptian records, the tribes of the Sea Peoples had names such as Ekvesh, Teresh, Lucki, Sherden, Shekelesh, Tekel and Peleset. Sounds suitably dark, blasphemous and filthy? If we want to dig deeper, one of the pharaohs who ruled Egypt was Akhenaten โ€“ yes, that heretic who tried to replace the worship of traditional Egyptian gods with the religion of the Aten and who is very much liked by conspiracy theorists. Letโ€™s add to the mix that Middle Eastern cultures had quite a negative attitude towards the sea as such. Babylonian Marduk had to defeat the giant monsters of Chaos โ€“ Apsu and Tiamat, personifications of fresh and salt waters, respectively. The Bible also contains traces of the myth about the fight between Yahweh and Leviathan, and the Book of Revelation, describing the new, ideal world, emphasizes that โ€žI saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.โ€ Letโ€™s assume that the players are researchers of an antiquity โ€“ historians, archaeologists, etc. They conduct research on the Sea Peoples. Of course, as common sense dictates, they assume that these were human warriors. However, as time goes on, more and more evidence appears that they were not completely human again, and the evidence of their monstrosity becomes increasingly difficult to put down to the demonization that Egyptian chroniclers used against their enemiesโ€ฆ It becomes clear that an onslaught of inhuman and semi-human monsters came from the sea. , trying to conquer the world of that time. Moreover, after their defeat at the hands of the Egyptians, this species did not become extinct, but instead of open conquest it switched to cautious infiltration. Perhaps the Deep Ones have spies in academia who are tasked with eliminating historians who find the trail of truthโ€ฆ
Oh, one more interesting fact connecting the history of the Sea Peoples with Lovecraft. Well, as we know, HPL liked to use the term โ€žCyclopeanโ€ for huge, monumental buildings. At least he didnโ€™t come up with it himself. Well, when the later (and at first more primitive) inhabitants, the Dorians, saw the ruins of destroyed castles left by the Mycenaean culture, they came to the conclusion that such huge buildings could not have been built by human hands, so they were probably the work of mythical giants โ€“ cyclopes.
Typhon โ€“ a classic but forgotten abomination
Modern works drawing on Greek mythology usually make Hades (completely senseless) or Kronos (a little more) the Big Bad, but they forget about Zeusโ€™s greatest enemy โ€“ Typhon. After defeating the titans and then the gigants, the Olympian gods had to face the main boss on the way to dominating the world โ€“ Typhon. Here is an example of its description: It was larger than the largest mountains, its head touched the stars. When he stretched out his hands, one reached the eastern ends of the world and the other reached the western ends. Instead of fingers, he had a hundred dragon heads. From the waist down he had a tangle of vipers (yay, tentacles!) and wings at his shoulders. His eyes were shooting out flames. In other versions of the myth, Typhon was a flying, hundred-headed dragon. In any case โ€“ appearance and stature worthy of the Great Old One. Typhon attacked Olympus, and all the gods except Zeus fled in panic. The supreme god took up the fightโ€ฆ and lost it. Only in the second duel did he manage to defeat Typhon, but not kill him โ€“ he only imprisoned him, hitting him with Etna. In the sense of a mountain. A volcano โ€“ and volcanic activity is the result of Typhonโ€™s anger, trying to break free. Typhon equaled the lord of heaven not only in strength, but in fertility. His wife was Echidna, about whom Hesiod wrote: โ€žShe also gave birth to another creature, invincible, huge, unlike neither men nor immortal gods, in a hollow cave โ€“ the divine violent Echidna, half a sharp-eyed young girl, with beautiful cheeks, half a huge snake, a great and powerful, spotted, cruel โ€“ in the depths of the holy land. This pair spawned many, if not most, of the monsters found in Greek mythology. Their offspring were very diverse and strange, as befits the spawn of enemies of the divine order, including: โ€“ Ladon, the hundred-headed dragon who never slept and guarded the apples that gave immortality, โ€“ Cerberus โ€“ we all know the dog guarding the gates of hellโ€ฆ but not all of us know that, according to some accounts, it had not three heads, but as many as 50, it was also covered with scales, and it had a snake by its tailโ€ฆ so what does this have to do with a dog? โ€“ Scylla โ€“ this lady inherited the most from the human, beautiful part of Echidnaโ€ฆ at least initially, but eventually, as a result of various perturbations, she turned from a beautiful nymph to her siblings, becoming a six-headed sea beast, so hideous, according to Homer, that even the gods could not stand sight of her โ€“ she dwelt in a cave, from where she opened her mouth to devour the crews of ships, โ€“ Gorgons โ€“ I mean, those ladies with snake hair, not monstrous bulls. Medusa was one of them โ€“ the story that Athena turned her priestess into a monster as punishment for being raped by Poseidon is an invention of later poets, โ€“ Lernaean Hydra โ€“ a multi-headed monster with many reptilian or human heads. In place of each severed head, two others grew, and in addition, the main head was completely immortal โ€“ therefore, after chopping off the mortal heads, Heracles had to burn the stumps and bury the immortal, still hissing head underground. Hydraโ€™s breath was poisonous. โ€“ various other creatures, such as the Sphinx, the dog Ortus, the Nemean Lion or the Chimera. Each of these descendants has the potential to be portrayed as an Eldritch abomination in its own right. To be precise โ€“ according to some accounts, the father of these creatures (and Echidna herself) was Typhon, but a monstrous, ancient (older than Poseidon) sea god, Phorcys. How to use Typhon? Well, Typhon clearly has the potential to be a Great Old One, imprisoned byโ€ฆ Nodens? Some other Elder God? Weak gods of humanity? Maybe his cult is trying to free him from Etna? What if he succeeds? What might distinguish Typhon from many other Great Old Ones? I would recommend focusing on his monster progenitor aspect โ€“ if he manages to reunite with Echidna, they will immediately start spawning various blasphemous beasts in series.
Jan Twardowski โ€“ the first man on the Moon
Jan (John) Twardowski, the hero of the legend, a Polish nobleman who allegedly sold his soul to the devil and became a sorcerer. Probably a historical figure, according to legend he lived in the 16th century and became famous for summoning the spirit of the deceased queen for King Sigismund Augustus. The ghost allegedly appeared in the mirror. This mirror is still kept in the church in Wฤ™grรณw. According to legend, when the terms of the pact were fulfilled, devils came to kidnap Twardowski to hell. Interestingly, instead of taking the sorcererโ€™s soul after death, the most material demons appeared and grabbed Twardowski in order to kidnap him bodily, aliveโ€ฆ and instead of heading towards the underground, which in legends is considered the traditional place of residence of demons and damned souls, they began to carry away up with him. At some point, Twardowski started singing religious songs, which caused the demons to escape, leaving him on the Moon, where he is said to have stayed ever since. Could the โ€œdemonsโ€ actually be extraterrestrials? Maybe mi-go? Maybe Twardowski was their agent and obtained secret knowledge and technology from them that gave him the fame of a sorcerer? As part of his studies, did he acquire knowledge of a system of sounds (โ€žreligious songsโ€) that was able to drive away his masters when they decided that his usefulness on Earth had ended and it was time to transport him to a space base where he would be transformed into a brain in jar? Or was transportation to the Moon part of the deal from the beginning? Oh, one more interesting fact โ€“ according to legends, Twardowski used to use a rooster as a horse, which he enlarged with his magic. Itโ€™s easy to imagine an abomination that, in the eyes of laymen, might have resembled a large roosterโ€ฆ Examples of scenario hooks: โ€“ Twardowskiโ€™s secret mirror is still in the church in Wฤ™grรณw. The local priest thinks it is just other โ€žpaganโ€ superstitions, but in fact it is a tool enabling contact with cosmic beings and higher realities. It may prove useful to players if they convince the priest to give it back or simply steal it. โ€“ Players are looking for Twardowskiโ€™s notes to gain knowledge about the โ€žsongโ€ thanks to which he drove away mi-go (or other creatures that became the prototype of the โ€ždevilsโ€ from the legend). The so-called Twardowskiโ€™s โ€žSchoolโ€ or โ€žCathedralโ€ was located in a quarry near Krakรณw. In fact, at the end of the 19th century, during the construction of the church of St. Jรณzef, a cave showing traces of alchemical experiments was discoveredโ€ฆ And it was destroyed. But perhaps there is a second, secret laboratory under the cave that escaped destruction? And there lie Twardowskiโ€™s secretsโ€ฆ And again, potential obstacles may be placed by the local parish priest. But not only him. Maybe Twardowskiโ€™s legendary โ€žroosterโ€ lies dormant in the laboratory and was left by the sorcerer as a guard? โ€“ players are astronauts on the Moon. However, it turns out that someone lives here, someone who was not detected by previous expeditions and probes. Will Twardowski prove to be an ally in the fight against cosmic horrors? Or maybe their agent, or an independent villain? If he survived this long on the Moon thanks to blasphemous secrets, itโ€™s possible that he had little humanity leftโ€ฆ
