2024.05.15 16:35 Ragnar-Nguyen Car accident insurance

Hi guys,
I am currently on the situation that I don’t really know what to do. A month ago, me and my friend went to the place, and I asked his permission if I tried his car and he said yes, I did tried to reverse but somehow even I already fit the mirror but I can’t see the camry behind me. I tried to hit the brake but it still going and I hitted the camry. I was scared and when we discussed I didn’t know my friend car is rented and he told me to not let the other know his car is rented, but it was too late because I thought it fine to say those. I have to call to his car owner and have a conversation and he 3 times sure that his car is fully insured but he wanted me to talk to other to bring it to his garage and fix it with cheaper price, I did try to talk to them but they not agreed, they wanted their car to be fixed in their garage. And so in that case I exchange my drive license and phone number, the other also got my friend's license and phone number.
The thing starting to get weird, 2 weeks later they gave me the fix cost receipt of 3000$ when the hit is barely seen it, also the friend car owner asking me to give him 1000$ for the excess pay without giving any information or paper, and also in that time the friend also revealed the car is third party insurance not fully insurance and that I have to pay 1000 for the excess and the repair for his car. I told him this is his owner problem when I tried to fix things and he made up everything and I won't pay anything until he gave any basic documents ( I asked for claim number, insurance policy and receipt that the excess paid). And today I received the mail from the hit car insurance stated on my name while the car is not in my name.
What I should do in this situation? I wanted to make it clear that the dent can fix with around 300-400$ but he now charged me with 3000$ and the friend is trying to avoid anything even accusing me run away.

2024.05.15 16:32 Necessary_Seaweed998 Am I (accidentally) falsely self employed? And if so… what can I do about it?

(UK)
I recently started a new part time position as a group fitness instructor. In the interview I was told that if I got the job I would be hired as an independent contractor so I would have to cover my own tax, insurance and training - which sounded pretty unfair but I wanted to do the job and figured it couldn’t cost that much. I also had no idea what it meant to be an independent contractor as I have never been self-employed! signed a contract that was sent to me by the business - which included the set rate that they would pay for teaching classes. I didn’t question the content of the contract at the time as it seemed similar to other zero hours contracts I had been in before with set rates for work completed- and again- I did not know what it meant to be self employed.
I realised that instructors were really only being paid for half the work that they were doing. The contract also requires instructors to transport the equipment required for classes in different venues and would be responsible and liable for any damage that occurred to it - but we do not use our own equipment - it’s the businesses. I did some googling which led me to the HMRC CEST test - which said that I was employed based on the information I put in. The more I look into it the more it seems like I am not self - employed , although I was told I am. I have to deal with all the monetary implications of an independent contractor with none of the freedom. I do not have my own business, nor do I want one!
Stipulations of my contract prevent me from freely working as an instructor with competitors of the business or advertising my services to anyone outside of the business during the contract or after its termination without their permission, I am not supposed to stray from a teaching format that they provide and they claim class formats or innovations that instructors make for their classes as the businesses intellectual property. I work at venues that they decide on and at hours dictated by the current class schedule. As far as I can tell, these all contradict the criteria for independent contractors - I feel like an employee of the business! I really enjoy teaching but it’s losing me money and time that I should be dedicating to my main job.
I dont really want to take legal action against my employer and I do want to keep teaching but I also believe this contract is ridiculous! So I want to know - is this contract legally binding given that it states I am an independent contractor but contradicts itself with its terms? Could I be persecuted for going against it? What are the implications of false self employment? Any advice as to how I should proceed would be much appreciated!

2024.05.15 16:23 turnstiles New Therapist to the Area (Anxiety Specialist)

Hi everyone, I'm a new therapist to the area specializing in Anxiety and Panic Disorder. I am a male therapist and I work with people 16+. I am currently accepting Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO insurance and self pay at $150 per session. My office is very close to the high schools off Aurora Ave., and I've got availability for new clients for both in person, and telehealth sessions in the coming weeks. I've worked in community mental health in Joliet, Blue Island, and the South and West Sides of the city (homeless outreach), and in private practice in New Lenox IL for the last five years. I've decided to branch out on my own and started leasing a space near the River Walk. I opened my doors on March 7th of this year and I've been introducing myself to Psychiatrists, Family MDs, Cardiologists, and Urgent Cares in the area. I've also emailed high schools and colleges to make myself known in the area. I just wanted to post here because I feel like a lot of my clients may be on Reddit 'doomscrolling' as they say. I'm working on having a 'mixer' for other mental health providers in the area to introduce myself and get to know the other providers. From doing all the outreach and meeting people I can tell I'm going to love working in Naperville, everything is so close and so many options for dining. If you ever need to refer someone, my website is sixtyfortycounseling.com and you can see if I'd be a good fit. Take care, and enjoy the rest of Mental Health Awareness Month!

2024.05.15 16:19 Effective-Market-304 AITA if I uninvited my dad to my wedding?

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Sorry this may be a long one. First a little backstory. Names and locations will be changed to maintain anonymity.
I (35F) grew up in a blended family. My parents got divorced when I was 10 and my dad remarried when I was 11. In addition to my younger sister (33F) from his previous marriage to my mom, I gained a step brother (27 M) and later a half brother, Ben(22 M). My sister and I spent every other weekend and summers at his house and the four siblings grew really close. We’re all each other’s best friends. I get a long okay with my step mom (let’s call her Anna). As we got older my dad became less involved and sometimes distant and basically let her raise the boys how she saw fit. With a lack of rules at home and few opportunities to make mistakes to learn and grow into adults. They are in their 20s but they are very infantilized. The younger one is not even allowed to change his hairstyle without permission or go on out of state trips by himself. It’s really weird but I moved abroad a decade ago and everyone back home just allows it.
Now on to the story at hand:
I live in an Asian country and a few years ago I met the love of my life and after meeting my family back home decided to get married. We had planned on doing just a courthouse thing because we were both not very big on something traditional, but we got swept up in the excitement knowing that my Dad and Sister would come if we decided to do a proper wedding.
In this country, wedding planning tends to go pretty fast as everything is usually done by one company. We gave our out of town friends and family a heads up in February that we’d have a ceremony in the fall and that we will set headcount no later than late Spring.
My step mom anointed herself the wedding planner as she’s passionate about it. She also cannot make the trip due to a disability which makes it hard for her to get around. It was getting close to crunch time for the headcount planning so I contacted her asking “hey I haven’t heard from the boys and I can follow up with them too, but do you know if any are planning on coming?” She then answers “no because the baby doesn’t know his school schedule and the older one can’t afford it”.
I was hoping to at least have one join as I assumed one would want to stay behind to stay with Anna but I was a little sad that neither of them contacted me to let me know directly. I told my sister who connected with them and told them to get in touch. The youngest was shocked to hear that he wasn’t going as he was under the impression that he was going and he had even picked up extra shifts at work to save extra money. My step brother confirmed it was a money issue which was totally fine and I thanked him for letting me know. I’m now excited that one of my brothers will also be joining.
Fast forward to Mother’s Day and Anna tells no Ben is not going. My Dad asserts that “he doesn’t know how to clean his room so why should he go?”
Once I hear about this conversation I’m irritated as I keep getting conflicting answers and I need to set my headcount. I Message my dad to get an update and he affirms “no Ben is not going because he ran up our car insurance up so his extra money will go towards that and he has to stay home with Anna”. I call up my dad to try to figure things out as the story keeps changing. I mention that I’m totally okay if the boys can’t come especially if it comes down to money, but the communication around everything has been really frustrating. He then proceeds to gaslight me asking:
“I don’t know why you care some much about whether or not your brothers come to your wedding”
“You’re doing too much. You should have just done the courthouse and call it a day”
And making me out to be a bridezilla.
The call got a little heated but we neither of us got rude or nasty. I finally ended the call with “I got the boys aren’t coming. That’s fine. Once I get confirmation on the accommodations I’ll let you know. Love you and have a good night” we hang up and I go to bed after venting about the whole situation with my sister.
I wake up the next morning to find a short message from my dad saying he’s not going anymore and to have a nice wedding. He’ll give his spot to Ben.
I am shocked. Not only did he drop himself from the wedding but over a misunderstanding on his part. I never guilted anyone about not including my brothers and did not beg or anything. I literally just commented on how frustrated I was with their communication but he aggressively wants to misunderstand for some reason.
I wrote back explaining my position and mentioning my disappointment in his decision but let him know the door is open if he changes his mind. I tried to message Anna but she’s been ignoring messages. From what I heard from my sister she is team dad and busy trying to vilify me.
The next day my dad basically admitted that the reason why none of the brothers are not going is because of my step mom. (Which I was suspicious of). He didn’t apologize but basically doubled down on saying I care too much. He also added he would be at my wedding after all.
The whole interaction has left the worst taste in my mouth:
  1. My parents tried to make me look like the bad guy just for trying to clarify head count.
  2. My dad tried to punish me by threatening not to come.
  3. My dad finally admitted that it’s Anna who is blocking her sons from going but instead of sticking up for me he lets her get away with it to “keep the peace”
  4. He never apologized for any of it.
It’s turned me off towards wedding planning especially as I wasn’t even that keen of having a wedding to start with. So, would I be the asshole if I uninvited him?
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.15 15:11 Sweet-Count2557 What Month Is Safest to Travel During Pregnancy

What Month Is Safest to Travel During Pregnancy
What Month Is Safest to Travel During Pregnancy Did you know that choosing the right month to travel during pregnancy can significantly impact your safety? With so many factors to consider, it's important to make informed decisions. In this article, we will explore the safest months for travel during each trimester of pregnancy. From evaluating risks in the first trimester to navigating the middle ground in the second trimester, and considering special precautions for high-risk pregnancies, we will provide you with expert advice and tips for a smooth journey. Stay safe and enjoy your travels! Key Takeaways
The second trimester is often considered the safest time to travel during pregnancy. Pregnancy-related complications are less likely during this period. Choose pregnancy-friendly destinations with accessible medical facilities. Consider locations with mild weather and safe transportation options.
Evaluating the Risks: Traveling During the First Trimester
Traveling during the first trimester can be considered safe for most pregnant women. However, it is important to understand and evaluate the potential risks involved before making any travel plans. One of the main concerns when flying during pregnancy is the risk of blood clots, also known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Changes in blood flow and pressure can increase this risk, so it's crucial to take necessary precautions. To minimize these risks, make sure to wear compression stockings or socks, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and avoid crossing your legs for prolonged periods. Another concern is the exposure to radiation from airport security scanners or cosmic rays during high-altitude flights. While the level of radiation exposure is generally low and unlikely to cause harm, it's still advisable to limit unnecessary exposure. Opting for alternative screening methods at airports or avoiding frequent air travel may provide peace of mind. Furthermore, morning sickness and fatigue are common symptoms experienced during the first trimester. These discomforts may be exacerbated by air travel due to changes in cabin pressure and motion sickness. It's essential to listen to your body's cues and rest whenever needed. Navigating the Middle Ground: Traveling During the Second Trimester
Finding a good balance, many expecting mothers opt to travel during their second trimester. This is often considered the safest time to travel as most pregnancy-related complications are less likely to occur compared to the first and third trimesters. During this period, you can still enjoy exploring new destinations while managing your pregnancy symptoms. When planning your trip, it's important to choose pregnancy-friendly destinations that offer easy access to medical facilities and have a favorable climate. Consider locations with mild weather and avoid places with extreme temperatures or high altitudes that may put unnecessary stress on your body. Additionally, ensure that the destination has safe and reliable transportation options. To make your travel experience more comfortable, it's essential to manage common pregnancy symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, and swollen feet. Take frequent breaks during sightseeing activities, stay hydrated, and listen to your body when it needs rest. Pack comfortable clothing and shoes that accommodate any swelling in your feet or ankles. Here's a helpful table outlining some key considerations for traveling during the second trimester:
Consideration Tips
Choose Pregnancy-Friendly Destinations Accessible medical facilities; favorable climate
Manage Pregnancy Symptoms Take frequent breaks; stay hydrated; pack comfortable clothing
Remember to consult with your healthcare provider before making any travel plans and follow their recommendations for a safe journey. Considerations for Late Stage Travel: Traveling During the Third Trimester
In the third trimester, it's crucial to prioritize comfort and safety when making travel plans. As your pregnancy progresses, there may be certain travel restrictions you need to consider. It's important to consult with your healthcare provider before embarking on any trips during this stage. Some airlines may have policies restricting travel after a certain week of pregnancy, so it's essential to check their guidelines beforehand. Managing discomfort during late stage travel is also a key consideration. As your belly grows bigger and heavier, you may experience increased back pain and fatigue. It's advisable to choose comfortable modes of transportation that allow for frequent breaks and ample legroom. Plan for regular stretching exercises or short walks during long journeys. Additionally, pack essentials like snacks, water, and pillows for added comfort during the trip. Wearing loose-fitting clothing and supportive footwear can also help alleviate discomfort. Now that we've discussed considerations for late stage travel, let's move on to special considerations for high-risk pregnancies: traveling safely. Special Considerations for High-Risk Pregnancies: Traveling Safely
If you have a high-risk pregnancy, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider before making any travel plans. Your safety and the well-being of your baby are paramount, so taking certain precautions is crucial. Here are some tips to help you travel safely and stay comfortable during your journey. Firstly, make sure to discuss your travel plans with your healthcare provider. They can evaluate the risks associated with your specific condition and provide guidance tailored to your needs. It's also essential to have a contingency plan in case of any medical emergencies that may arise during your trip. When it comes to traveling, consider choosing destinations that are closer to home and have access to adequate medical facilities. It's also advisable to avoid destinations with higher altitudes or extreme climates. During long journeys, whether by car or plane, take frequent breaks to stretch your legs and avoid sitting for extended periods. Wear loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes that won't restrict circulation. Additionally, staying hydrated is vital, so drink plenty of water throughout the trip. Finally, pack all necessary medications and relevant medical records in case of emergencies. Remember to follow any dietary restrictions recommended by your healthcare provider. Tips for a Smooth Travel Experience: Preparing for Your Journey
To ensure a smooth travel experience, it is essential to plan ahead and gather all necessary documents and essentials before your journey. Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, having a preparing checklist can help you stay organized and prepared. Before you embark on your trip, make sure to check off these items from your list. First and foremost, don't forget your essential travel documents. This includes your passport, visa (if required), driver's license, and any other identification that may be necessary. It's also a good idea to make copies of these documents in case of loss or theft. Next, consider any additional documentation that may be required based on your destination or purpose of travel. For example, if you're traveling with children who are not your own, you may need written permission from their parents or legal guardians. If you have any medical conditions or allergies, it's advisable to carry relevant medical records or doctor's notes. Other essentials to remember include travel insurance information, emergency contact numbers both at home and abroad, as well as any necessary prescriptions or medications. It's always wise to pack a first aid kit with basic supplies such as band-aids, pain relievers, and antiseptics. 2024.05.15 15:04 celestebcg My amazing Bi-Salp Experience at 25!

A lot of write posts about peoples experience with their Bi-Salp helped me prepare for mine so I thought I would post about my personal experience!!
So about three years ago, I got my copper IUD placed. I didn’t want to try any hormonal birth control because I tend to be hormone imbalanced, considering I got my period when I was nine years old and I already had ovarian cyst when I was 12 I didn’t want to add to the mix. For the first two years of me having it because my wedding ended up getting postponed due to Covid January 2023, I got married started my first year with the copper IUD being actually sexually active. I always loved my IUD because of the presence of no side effects. Other than the fact that my periods were terrible my periods would fluctuate from being seven days to eight days to 14 days to 20 days long. Throughout the month, I would always spot and have random cramping and then on the day cycle or the day leading up, I was already spotting a lot.. I would take 800 mg of ibuprofen every four hours for the entirety of my period because I could not Barrett all of this medication definitely affected my gut health. Towards the fall of last year, I felt like my cycles were getting a little lighter. Finally I thought I’m about to be three years with this may be it will be regulating a little more soon even with the copper had an extreme paranoia of anxiety, but I didn’t realize how extreme my anxiety is now that this risk of getting pregnant I felt was so prevalent, even though I had a obsess over people and I didn’t use any other form of birth control like condoms because I didn’t really like how it felt. I was always paranoid sitting on the toilet for hours waiting for everything to come out not doing anything for two weeks out of the month I include my period and then my ovulation week because that would also make me more paranoid. The last few months of a light cycle I got the worst cycles I had ever gotten they lasted about three weeks with giant clotting and in general I would always be having to wear. Diapers. I would wear a diaper with a pad on the inside of it and I would go through that every hour and a half so my blood loss was intense after my cycle I would get super lightheaded and the worst part is that I have always been chronically anemic my whole life I’m also vegetarian. I don’t eat meat.. It was a perfect storm. The anemia was being affected by the IUD blood loss and then I was diagnosed with heavy menstrual hemorrhaging. so in January, I decided to go to the doctor and see if there was any other options. Still, I knew that birth-control with hormones was not some thing I wanted. I was referred to a minimally, invasive, OB/GYN surgeon, and I asked about getting a Bi-Salp. he spoke to me about the whole process, and I was very excited that day we decided to take my IUD out, which thankfully was not as painful as the torturous insertion. His plan was let’s see how my natural cycle after. Take the IUD out if my bleeding regulates and I’m not losing as much blood. Would be a good option, but then it will be evident that the IUD is not the cause and that it’s a further issue and then they were considering doing a hysterectomy so that I would no longer get a cycle and I wouldn’t have to worry about my anemia by taking the IUD out sure enough my cycles got better two months and my cycles went from a two week. 22 Would be a good option, but then it will be evident that the IUD is not the cause and that it’s a further issue and then they were considering doing a hysterectomy so that I would no longer get a cycle and I wouldn’t have to worry about my anemia, but by taking the IUD out sure enough my cycles got better two months and my cycles went from a two week period to a 2 to 3 day. to 3 day period. Not even days after removing my copper IUD I felt so much relief. I felt a fullness disappear that I didn’t even realize was there in the first place and a lot of other things changed to my skin got clear and overall I felt less anxious. I believe that the copper in the IUD had been causing me some sort of copper toxicity. so after two months, I called the doctor and told him that my period had gotten better so I went back and we schedule the Bi-Salp. So I went two months without any birth control and stayed away from my husband. Lol, thankfully at the end of the two months I was able to get my surgery and a week before my surgery. I went to a regular visit with my OB and they did an ultrasound and they saw that they’re good possibly be a polyp on my uterus so when they went in to do my procedure, they also did a Oppie with to see if there was any polyps and remove the polyps that were there. They also found some cysts that they removed and I also had some endometriosis growing on my left tube and ovary thankfully they were able to remove! For the surgery and leading up to it, I stayed away away from any foods that would make me gassy and anything that would constipate me. I was drinking MiraLAX in my tea every night for the week leading up to the surgery.
Surgery day of: On the morning of the surgery, I was advised to not take my Vyvanse, which I use for anxiety and ADHD. So I skipped it and just drink water since I have been fasting since 10 PM the night before. When I arrive to the hospital, I was able to go to the bathroom thankfully and then started getting prepped for surgery. They obviously had me do a urine test and then got me set up with my IV where they would insure all of my meds this was very painful, but I sat and waited before I was feeling loopy. They gave me the anti-stress and anxiety medication before they administered the anesthesia and suddenly I was knocked out. All I remember is walking into the surgery room and thinking wow this is like Grey’s Anatomy and then knocking out next thing, I remember I wake up in the room and I am very groggy and out of it. Thankfully, the anesthesia did not cause nausea. The hardest part during this transition was getting me to pee because I kept wanting to fall asleep so badly but they kept telling me if I didn’t pee then I wouldn’t be able to go home to finally sleep so I was bloated and swollen And I finally peed the second time. After that, I was discharged and my family did a great job at trying to keep me awake while we drove home because I was asleep in the car that could get nauseous and throw up, which would hurt my belly from making those kind of movements. Thankfully, I got home and I knocked out on the couch. I woke up dazed and confused but feeling a lot better and refreshed. I felt good for about an hour and then the pain started, but not any sort of abdominal pain from the surgery itself. It was just the Thankfully, I got home and I knocked out on the couch. I woke up dazed and confused but feeling a lot better and refreshed. I felt good for about an hour and then the pain started, but not any sort of abdominal pain from the surgery itself. It was just the pain from the gas pain from the laparoscopic surgery. This pain was definitely intense and it progressed my worst day was the day after the surgery. But that same night after the surgery was difficult because I could not find any position where I was comfortable. I was taking Gas-X every two hours charcoal pills every two hours and ibuprofen and Tylenol alternated every four hours. They gave me OXY if I wanted to take it, but I never did because I didn’t wanna get constipated and I really didn’t feel any pain that the oxy could resolve pain medication does not resolve gas pain. First night I slept propped up with a lot of pillows around me holding my belly holding me from every position where I could put more weight to add pain to my body well, I didn’t really sleep that night, but I tried to sleep, but I rested upright on the couch and I was up maybe every hour going to pee and walking around because the best advice I could give is just walk as much as it hurts. Everything hurts with these gas pain so I feel better to be walking around in pain than to be sitting down, knowing that I’m not actually resolving any of the gases that is the only way the gases will escape your body. That was exhausting because I could not sleep as much as I wanted to. the day was extremely painful trapped in my ribs. It felt like someone had a split my ribs but again I had no tenderness or soreness in my abdomen no cramping anything like that. I complain the most and the most uncomfortable part of everything was just being very very bloated and not being able to suck in my stomach. I’m naturally a very thin person so having my stomach was frustrating because none of my clothes fit me comfortably. The bloating started from the top of my rib cage all the way down. But I kept up with charcoal pills and Gas-X, and I’m thinking the charcoal definitely help because I would notice a difference after taking that even more so than the Gas-X. I finally was able to go to the bathroom after the surgery and thankfully it was a smooth transition to going into the bathroom. I’m sure the MiraLAX helped because of that and I had hardly been eating because my stomach was so swollen and were so severe that even one bite of food in my stomach would make everything swell up even more and it it would hurt me. So those first few days I kept it very light. The second night after the surgery was another miserable night. I almost cried that night because I thought I was gonna lose my mind. I hadn’t slept or napped all day because the pain would prevent me from being able to rest in a comfortable position and then all night again, I did not sleep, those were the hardest 2 nights. The following day I saw a tiny bit of progress with the gas pain. But eventually, I think I got used to it by Saturday surgery having been Monday. I felt significantly better still very swollen but better. Sunday I left the house for the first time got ready put normal clothes on. The loosest clothes that I had. And that was nice to finally leave the house and try to do something normal, came back and was definitely exhausted and rested for the rest of the day by this point I was no longer taking any pain medication. Just the charcoal pills. By Monday I was feeling significantly better. I had gotten my cycle over the weekend and it was not a very painful cycle. Just a little bit of mild cramping and bleeding but nothing crazy on Wednesday. I had my follow up appointment a week and a half after surgery and I was cleared for all activity and just told to be careful with how heavy things are when I lift them to stay away from anything more than 30 pounds. I had sex for the first time in three months because of the fact that I had no birth control before my surgery for those two months when they had taken my IUD out. It was a little bit painful because my body had gotten used to sex and no penetration at all. Very quickly my bodygot used to it again. And I enjoyed it so much. I was scared to have an orgasm because I had heard online that some people complained of cramping after the orgasm, but I had no cramping at all only enjoyment. The fact that I was able to do everything I wanted without any anxiety that I would get pregnant without having to do anything to prevent that was liberating and it literally has improved my sex life incredibly and just the short amount of time today I am 2 1/2 weeks postop. And I feel great. My incisions are healing really well and I’m about to start using scar tape for the scars. I have barely any gases. My stomach is as flat as it normally is, and I’ve been feeling wonderful. The only thing I noticed after my surgery was a little bit of breaking out right after the surgery, but they said that that was normal since a lot of the drugs and medicine they put into your system for surgery is basically detoxing after you come out of surgery so it comes out of your body in different ways. I do not regret this surgery. It has completely changed my mindset towards life. I feel free finally. I’m sure my age has a lot to do with my recovery time and overall I’m a very sickly person for my age so I was expecting for this recovery to take me weeks to months, but I am feeling wonderful. I’m about to be the maid of honor for a wedding this Friday and I feel no restraint and dancing or anything of this sort. I’m grateful I didn’t get any soreness or pain in my abdomen after the surgery and that all I had to deal with was the severe gas pain. I know that is not everyone’s experience, but that was mine and I’m very happy with it. Just wanted to share some details on how everything went and hopefully this can be helpful to someone. Thankfully, my insurance covered most of the procedure and all I had to pay was $1,500. I have never been happier with a decision in my life.

2024.05.15 13:57 AccomplishedForm951 Childcare conundrum - Sanity check and advice

Hi all,
My wife and I (both 29) are 5 months pregnant (unplanned) and we’ve sort of backed ourselves into a corner. We were not anticipating children this year but that’s life! Our finances currently: - £15k loan @ 6.6% / £300pm for the next 4 years. Silly in hindsight as it was our wedding, this was promised to us but then reneged on and we already booked everything. - £12k cash / emergency fund - Property Equity: £80-£85k - £50k in my pension (work does 16% non-contributory), wife has teacher’s DB pension - My income: £127k base + 15% guaranteed bonus. Wife: £55k but likely to fall to £43k if we move out of London. Take-home: £8.75k now, £7.35k on maternity, £8.25k after maternity leave. - Current expenses ~£5.25k (can’t reduce as it’s mostly our flat). We can save ~£3.5k right now but maternity leave will eat up a chunk of this.
Anyways, we’re currently in a flat in London and it’s not fit for children realistically. I’m looking at commuter towns so I can still get to the office but I’m absolutely floored by the cost of housing (£450-£530k range and only finding 3 bed terraces to semi-detached). Taking worst case scenario of £530k property with 10% deposit… mortgage rates of 5% over 35 years would mean a £2,400pm mortgage. Childcare fees for full time are coming in at £1,300 after I’ve reached out to a few places (no family to take care of children). Honestly, it’s borderline unaffordable but… with good budgeting and some cutbacks, it should be just about doable.
I suppose what I’m looking for is advice on the below: - To afford to move, I need to save an additional ~£5k so I don’t touch my cash buffer as estate agent fees, stamp duty, etc will eat up a lot of my equity which we’ll need for the deposit. Moreover, I need to save another ~£2k for all the baby stuff as we have nothing. - For childcare costs, Im not eligible for the 30 free hours starting September next year. This would get childcare down to ~£800 a month, however, I’d need to sacrifice £46k which would take me to £66k contributions a year. That’s not long term sustainable but could do for 3 years using unused allowance and would reduce my yearly take-home by £18k. - My budget: £2.4k mortgage, £1.3k childcare, £750 household bills, £300 train to work, £500 car (repayment, insurance, maintenance and fuel), £500 Food, £200 baby needs, £300 house maintenance buffer, £150 misc (haircuts, gym, phone sims). Totals: £6,400. Add annualised costs (clothes, birthdays/xmas, TV subscriptions, etc. ) of £500 = £6.9k. With the loan, that comes to £7.2k before discretionary spend.
I feel like I’m being stupid / over the top on some things and really would like to gain some perspective of how to make this more affordable. I feel like I earn well but the expenses here feel ludicrous and will put us under some longer term strain which I hadn’t anticipated.

2024.05.15 11:49 Go_Corgi_Fan84 Budget?

Doing my initial budget for our attorney. I wish my attorney gave me more instructions on how to do this so I’m just going through our accounts to see what we’ve been buying and how often to see where our spending is. Does this sound right?
What about things/categories that we know historically we have been underspending? My husband’s been the focus of our limited clothing budget (works in person and weight loss) and we are underspending on me although nothing fits me.
Did you put toilet paper under your personal care or clean supplies?
How did you figure out your medical/dental expenses? We both have new insurances this year so things are off but we both have typically hit deductibles or out of pocket max. How do accounts like HSA/FSA fall into this? We have these but they are not adequately funded for all of our out of pocket medical fees.

2024.05.15 09:06 Pretty_Emu_9951 G-Fit stole half of my disctance

Hi there,
my health insurance has a bonus program which I joined in. One point is to ride 40km with a bike per week. I have a Fitbit Charge 6 but I need to track my tours with Google Fit, otherwise it wont work.
So I activated live tracking on the app and startet my tour. The route was tracked while cycling and everything seemed to be fine. The route is about 15km in real BUT when i finished, the app shows only 7,75km. The tracking as you can see on the image is correct, but the distance (Entfernung) isn't.
https://preview.redd.it/aoumgetggj0d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a016a1703c840c5baf7e5ff24c922ce9a2d3e05
I had my Charge 6 on the wrist, and it also recognized the cycling but without distance or GPS tracking. Just.....yeah, it seemed you did a tour, here is your heart rate etc....
I don't know what the problem is and why Google Fit stole half of my distance, although the route is 100% correct. Is it because of Fitbit? Both apps are connected because of the steps which are also necessary for the bonus program.

2024.05.15 08:00 EntrepreneurCold1254 Could a career with your significant other be a good idea?

Hi everyone,
I'm 27 years old and just finished my master's degree in agricultural science from the University of Georgia. Growing up on a family farm, I've always been deeply involved in agriculture. This week, along with graduating, I also had back surgery and will be recovering for the next 6-8 weeks. This period has given me a lot of time to reflect on my future career and job search.
My fiancé is a successful State Farm agent with 10 years of experience. She believes I would be a good fit to join her in selling insurance and help her grow her business, especially focusing on life insurance, which she says is an area needing improvement.
Our relationship is seamless; we have never argued and see each other as equals. We're very open and supportive of each other. Despite this, I have some reservations about this potential career change. I have no experience in insurance or sales, and I'm concerned about mixing our home life with work, which could put stress on our relationship.
I know I'm a quick learner and believe I can tackle new challenges, but the self-doubt is real. I'm also aware that this feeling is probably normal when considering such a significant shift in career paths. On paper, working together seems ideal, and I think I would enjoy helping her grow the business beyond her expectations.
I'm considering starting to shadow her at the office while I'm recovering and possibly taking licensing classes. However, I'm uncertain about how this decision could impact my future and our relationship.
What do you all think? Should I start shadowing her during my recovery? Should I go ahead and take the licensing classes? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.15 06:20 KHSMR_IN Civic Sedan 2024 Sport vs Mazda CX-5 GX (Canada)

My wife and I are looking to buy our first car ever.
We have finally decided to choose between the cars mentioned. We are both 27 years old and planning to have a child in a year or two, so we want the car seat to fit comfortably when needed in the future. Since this is our first car, I don't have much idea about how much we will drive, but I am assuming around 1500-2000 km per month. I don't have any preference in terms of driving, and I honestly liked both cars when I did the test drive.
I know I'm comparing a sedan with a CUV, but this is what we have come up with.
From my research and talking with dealers, I am getting the Civic Sport (second top trim below Touring) for $31,500 CAD and the CX-5 (base trim) for $33,600 CAD. I will not be changing my car for at least 5 years.
On top of the Civic pricing, I am also getting all-weather mats, theft protection, my choice of color for free, and a few other extra fees removed, which I am not getting with the CX-5 and would have to pay extra for if I wanted them.
Regarding the driving and feel of the car, I liked both but felt the CX-5 (AWD) is more refined and smooth with the automatic transmission compared to the CVT on the Civic. Fuel-wise, the Civic is better due to the CVT, FWD, and smaller engine. In terms of features, I don't think I'm missing much with the Mazda, but the Civic definitely has the upper hand due to the trim level (moonroof, better looking 18-inch alloys, remote start). Safety-wise, the Mazda has better ratings, but I won't get better resale. I felt the interior space is almost similar in both, but it seemed the Civic is bigger.
For the first year, I am paying the same insurance, but as I gain more experience, I believe the Mazda will be cheaper in the future.
I'm so confused and unable to make a decision about which one to go for.
Tldr;
My wife and I are deciding between our first cars: a Honda Civic Sport ($31,500 CAD) and a Mazda CX-5 ($33,600 CAD). We're 27, planning to have a child soon, and expect to drive about 1500-2000 km/month. The Civic offers more features and extras at a lower price, while the CX-5 feels more refined and smooth to drive. The Mazda has better safety ratings but potentially lower resale value. Both have similar interior space. Insurance costs are the same for the first year, but Mazda might be cheaper long-term. We're struggling to make a decision.

2024.05.15 06:08 Ok-Willingness1925 20k in debt off business transactions

Hello everyone, I'll start off by saying I live in Canada. I am a 26M and I've recently started my own business about a year and a half ago selling collectibles and merchandise online. During my time I've sold quite abit of product and all was well until 2 months ago when I had a few large orders come through from various customers. Contacted the customers after they placed their order as usual and let them know shipping times, order totals, etc.
They recieved their orders and all was good until a month later, I got several chargebacks from all the customers who had placed these large orders. The total amounting to nearly 20k. Their banks have all came to the conclusion that the customer was in the right and I was in the wrong.
I've just recently put the 20k onto my 30k credit line but now I'm just looking at this amount and stumped that I'll have to pay such an insane amount that I haven't accrued and now I'm lost on all this product as well.
Its hard to try and fit all this within my budget as I have a child, a car payment, insurance and rent to pay. It's truly overwhelming.
If anyone has any tips or advise, that would be greatly appreciated.

One hinge slightly bending while wearing?
H i all. Today I got a new pair of glasses as well as prescription sunglasses of the same frame due to light sensitivity (transitions never really worked well for me) I recently moved and in my state’s medicaid insurance, glasses are not covered. I asked around people I trust and ordered them online with my current prescription. I also ordered them slightly larger than my old glasses. They are spring hinge. They fit perfectly except with one side of my face the hinge ever so slightly bends while I’m wearing them. I do have a wide head but I figured since I got bigger measurements it wouldn’t be a problem. It’s been a few years since I got new glasses so I’m not sure if this has been a problem and they’ve just adjusted over time or if I should be concerned about the hinges breaking off. I really can’t afford new glasses but I’m also kind of stuck because I don’t really have the time to deal with shipping them back and forth from the manufacturer due to it already being practically summer where I live, so I need the light protection now.
full of anxiety, help? 😰

Benefits of Real-Time GPS Tracking When Traveling Abroad

Sharing Exact Location During Emergencies

https://i.redd.it/8yq83xxi5i0d1.gif
Traveling abroad has become increasingly popular among Americans, with a record 44.8 million U.S. citizensventuring overseas in 2019 alone. As you embark on your international journey, ensuring your safety and security becomes paramount. A GPS tracker for your vehicle or personal use can be a lifesaver in emergencies, allowing you to share your exact location with loved ones or local authorities. This not only ensures your safety but also provides invaluable peace of mind to those who care about you. Let us explain in a real-world scenario.
  • Emergency Lifesaver: In emergencies, the ability to share your exact location is not just convenient, it can be life-saving. Whether you find yourself lost, in danger, or in a medical emergency, a GPS tracker is your lifeline.
  • Real-Time Location Sharing: This technology allows you to send your precise location to loved ones or local authorities in real-time. This is important in letting them know where you are so they can find you, fast.
  • Real-World Scenario Value: Imagine you're driving through the scenic but remote roads of a foreign country and your vehicle breaks down. With no one in sight and perhaps a language barrier, your GPS tracker becomes your voice. It guides rescuers or local help directly to you, eliminating the guesswork and potential delays in getting assistance.
For instance, in 2017, a tourist named Sarah Wilson was trekking in the remote wilderness of New Zealand when she got lost. With the help of a personal GPS tracker with global coverage, she was able to send her coordinates to local authorities, who quickly came to her rescue. This incident highlights the importance of having a mini GPS tracker with an SOS button that sends out realtime alerts to predetermined contacts, making it even easier to get help when needed.

Location Sharing - Keeping Friends And Family Informed About Your Whereabouts

As you traverse through the vibrant streets of Barcelona or bask in the mesmerizing beauty of the Amalfi Coast, a car GPS tracker becomes an excellent way to keep your loved ones informed about your whereabouts. How? With you sharing your real time location with them 24/7. This GPS data can be accessed from a mobile phone or computer anytime. In fact, you can even program the GPS locator to alert loved ones every time you travel to a new city! This allows them to follow your journey and ensure you're safe and sound wherever your travels take you! Now, let's look at additional benefits of sharing your location while traveling.
  • Constant Connectivity: Imagine sharing your real-time location with your loved ones 24/7. They can see where you are at any moment, providing an unmatched peace of mind.
  • Easy Access: This GPS data isn't hidden away in some complex system. It's right there on their mobile phones or computers, accessible anytime, anywhere. They won't have to wonder where you are or if you're safe.
  • Automated Alerts: You can program your GPS locator to automatically notify your loved ones each time you arrive in a new city. This feature adds an exciting element for them as they virtually follow your journey, step by step.
  • Safety and Security: Your family and friends can ensure you're safe and sound, no matter where your travels take you. In the unlikely event of an emergency, they know exactly where to find you.
Remember, using a GPS tracker when traveling long distances isn't just about technology; it's about connecting with your loved ones in a meaningful way. It's about giving them a window into your world as you explore new horizons. So, as you wander through new landscapes and cities, let the GPS tracker be your silent guardian, invisibly weaving the bond of safety and connection with those you hold dear.

Lost Luggage Recovery - Protect Your Belongings When Traveling Internationally

Lost luggage is an all-too-common problem for international travelers. In fact, it is estimated that millions of travel bags were reported missing globally in 2019. A mini GPS tracker, like the Invoxias Cellular GPS Tracker, can help you locate and recover lost bags with ease. Simply place the tracker inside your luggage, and you'll be able to track its location in realtime, ensuring your belongings are never too far from reach. Oh, and if you are traveling domestically, an Apple AirTag will probably get the job done!
  • Real-Time Location Tracking: Just slip this compact device into your luggage, and voila! You have real-time tracking at your fingertips. Whether your bag ends up in Berlin or Buenos Aires, you'll know exactly where it is.
  • Peace of Mind: The true value lies in the peace of mind it offers. No more anxiety over misplaced bags. Your belongings are always within virtual reach, ensuring that you can focus on enjoying your journey.
  • Quick Recovery: In the unfortunate event that your luggage does stray, recovery becomes a breeze. You’re not dependent on airline updates; you're in control, able to pinpoint your bag’s location and retrieve it swiftly.
  • Versatile for All Travel: And hey, if your adventures are closer to home, domestically speaking, an Apple AirTag might be all you need. It offers similar tracking capabilities, perfect for keeping tabs on your belongings during shorter trips.
A GPS tracker for long-distance travel allows you to never have to worry about misplaced or lost luggage when traveling abroad! It's not just about tracking; it's about reclaiming control over your travel experience, ensuring your focus remains on the joys of exploration, not the worries of what-ifs.

Geo-Fencing Alerts -Setting Virtual Boundaries For Added Safety Abroad

While the lure of foreign lands is undeniably enticing, it's important to stay vigilant, as dangers can lurk around every corner. In 2019, more than 1,300 U.S. citizens required consular assistance due to crimes abroad. Scary right? But the good news is you can protect yourself with the geo-fencing on a GPS locator. Let us explain. By setting virtual boundaries around specific locations like your hotel or a tourist attraction, your loved ones know the very second you are on the move. This can be very helpful if you are lost or in an unfamiliar location.

10 International Travel Safety Tips

  1. Research your destination and local customs before departing to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.
  2. Invest in a reliable GPS tracker for vehicle safety, like the GL300 GPS Tracker or Vyncs GPS Tracker, for enhanced security.
  3. Keep important documents, such as passports and travel insurance, secure in a hidden location while exploring.
  4. Share your itinerary and location with friends and family using tracker devices and companion apps.
  5. Choose a GPS device with long-lasting battery life and easy installation for stress-free travel.
  6. Stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings, particularly in unfamiliar locations.
  7. Avoid displaying expensive belongings or large amounts of cash to minimize the risk of theft.
  8. Use GPS trackers with antitheft alerts to safeguard your belongings and vehicle while abroad.
  9. Familiarize yourself with local emergency numbers and the locations of the nearest embassies or consulates.
  10. Respect local laws, guidelines, and culture to ensure a positive experience in the places you visit.

2024.05.15 04:15 cripplequeer will insurance cover a second pair of sideguards?

pretty much as the title says, I have a 4yo quickie qri that came with removable plastic sideguards. About a month or two ago I went on a day trip at my school (us public school for students with disabilities) and the staff members took my chair apart including removing sideguards to try and fit it into the back of a minivan. Since that day my sideguards have Vanished. Staff said they checked every van and haven't found them, I've checked both of my parent's cars since my chair only gets taken apart to be put in a car, no luck. I use my chair nearly every day and recently have started going places independently so it gets wet and muddy and gross af. Would medicaid insurance cover new sideguards? Out of pocket they're like $80 each which I can't afford on disability. I also have a disability support waiver grant through the state that I suppose I could use but that's a last resort option. Any advice super appreciated:)
