I am a recent graduate with an Electrical Engineering Bachelors and have always wanted to get into the power industry. In the area that I live most power companies are not hiring at the moment. However, through my school I have received an opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship. This apprenticeship is offered through a recruiting company and works directly with a power company. This apprenticeship is also around the area that I live.
The job title is "Energy Delivery Operations" and the requirements are a two year associates degree in Electrical Engineering. Below I listed the job description.

Ensuring that outages are executed safely and in the best method to minimize the impact
Interface with field personnel
Walk field personnel through switching orders
Respond to alarms and other issues that arise at the substations
Maintain the flow of electricity in the specified area they are responsible for

Additionally, it seems that you work in a System Control Center and are eventually required to the get the NERC and SOPD certifications which are paid by the company.
I have spoke to the recruiter for the program and was told the job works on a DuPoint Schedule. The recruiter knows that I am a bit overqualified but notices that I am still willing to work the position. The recruiter mentioned how I would start working towards completing tests in the apprenticeship so I can go for the full-time position.
The job is hourly pay and it seems I would start at $15/hr with a 40 hour work week. (I KNOW this is way below the starting salary for an electrical engineer, but the recruiter spoke to me as if this pay will increase pretty quick if I complete my tests). The full-time position is $27.65/hr which is still below an engineering salary but with OT I believe there is potential for higher annual income.
In the recruiting process I will have a second round interview soon which is the last stage.
The reason I am considering this apprenticeship is because it's close to friends, I get to stay in Texas, and also it is a foot in the door to a known power company "American Electric Power" in South Texas. I never had any industry experience and other jobs I've applied for have not taken me this far into their recruiting process.
My overall goals are to get my FE for Electrical Engineering and hopefully move into an engineering role later down my career.
I am scared, nervous, excited but overall don't know what to think being why I posted this. Maybe I can get advice from you experienced operators.
Would I pigeon hole myself by going this route?
In the end if they don't recruit me I have to move back to North Virginia with my parents and siblings. However, if I do get selected should I still go through with the position? I feel stumped.

Hello guys. Story time lang, I started out working online since 2019 after a full time corporate job. I’ve had so many clients in the past, Canadians, Americans, Indians, Chinese, you name it. Before I got this job, I came from a company na mejo overworked and underpaid. 10,000-15,000 words a day plus writing manuals ganyan (writer pala ko and sa marketing).
So I resigned and moved to another ecommerce company. Okay naman sana nung una. Kaya lang lahat sayo iaasa tas walang transparency. Eto lang JD mo tapos biglang may papagawa sayo na wala kang kaalam alam. So dahil need ng work, tiis lang iniisip ko nalang e part naman ng learning to haha okay na din. But I eventually resigned kahit walang lilipatan kase a colleague of mine took all my work and presented it to the big boss tas sinabing wala akong ginawa sa process. Di ko na malaban kasi mas nakinig sya dun. Baka kasi magkalahi sila ganon. So I left and sent them an email. Lol
Come 2022, December (after ilang months din na walang work) this outsourcing company called me and told me that they saw me on linkedin and jobstreet yada yada. I got placed sa Australian client who was sobrang nice and nagugulat na nakatime tracker kami sa work. Don’t get me wrong the outsourcing company had a good company culture, magandang team, and mababaet na mga tao.
After 6 months, up for regularization na ko, inofferan akong magdirect hire na. Ang galing. Ang taas ng offer, then the client made sure na my salary was enough to pay for the govt mandated contributions plus may health insurance. Di ko rin alam siguro dahil rin sa work ethic ko I guess kaya sobrang naappreciate ni client work ko. Minsan sila na nagsasabi na wag ako maging yes man. To the point na dahil napansin nila na hindi ako naglileave, binigyan ako nung CEO na mandatory rest days hahaha tas di nya rin binawas sa leaves ko. Huhu
Fast forward, nag chat si CEO about relocation. Casual lang nya sinabi. Am I happy here or do i want to experience moving. Lol syempre sabi ko go. Sayang opportunity. Tas december, he made me go sa isang business trip para lang maexperience ko and for me to decide kung gusto ko talaga lumipat.
Sobrang baet ng CEO tapos mababaet din yung team abroad.
As of now, may work visa na me and inaayos nalang yung exit clearance ko so I can fly naaaa.
As a freelancer, sobrang swerte lang ako and even my friends are surprised sa trajectory nung mga nangyare.
Siguro if I can share a thing or two, gandahan lang talaga work ethic, do things with quality and integrity, at higit sa lahat wag sirain ang tiwala nila. Lalo pag may mga purchases na ginagawa ka for them. Syempre wag ka rin matakot magtanong or iassert yung ideas mo lalo kapag feel mo may sense and basis naman.
Ayun lang. Sana lahat ng freelancers magkaron ng mabuting clients!! And of course wag sayangin. Wagmi sa mga kagaya kong buhay digital! :)

But not only the money, with Acting, sure you have great acting skills and make hella bank but you also are just good at acting, not necessarily a skill in everyday life. You choose to be the world’s greatest Jiu Jitsu master, you gain all the knowledge, skills, and body tone to do it. Same with Physics, sure you may only get paid a few hundred thousand in salary but you could be the one to finally find Dark Matter in the universe. If you pick sword fighting, you could become an assassin and kill your targets with a blade, raking in cash from rich bastards who want their competitors dead. Just saying, it’s not all about the cash…

Saengmany Ratsabout grew up on public assistance while his father, who had immigrated to the U.S. as a Lao refugee in the 1980s, worked at warehouses and factories to support a family of eight.
INCOME MOBILITY

His was the first generation to attend college, and after starting out making $12 an hour at a social services nonprofit, Ratsabout's income steadily rose as he changed jobs, earned more degrees and climbed the career ladder. The researcher specializing in Southeast Asian studies now makes $110,000 as the executive director of the East Side Freedom Library, which has allowed him and his wife — the daughter of Hmong refugees — to pursue opening their own Lao coffee business.
Ratsabout's steady growth in income tells the story of Asian American economic success in Minnesota. New data the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis compiled found Asian Minnesotans have higher income mobility rates than not only other racial groups in Minnesota but also Asian Americans in other states. The trend is most stark at the lowest income quartile.
Asian Minnesotans in the lowest-earning group made less than $12,940 in 2014. By 2019, a worker in this group had a 57% chance of moving up income groups and a 43% chance of staying at the bottom group or having no wage income at all. The same pattern holds true for Asian Americans who earned up to $32,990 in 2014. Earners in this group had about a 36% probability of moving up one or more quartiles within five years, while all other racial groups had odds below 30%. Ratsabout, 42, said he and his wife "certainly have had mobility."
The data does not break out nations of origin for Asian Americans, grouping together disparate communities with very different paths to this country. Minnesota's largest Asian American community is Hmong, who began resettling here in the 1970s after allying with the U.S. military in the war against Communists in Laos and then had to rise up from poverty as refugees. Meanwhile, the second- and third-largest groups of Asian Minnesotans are of Indian and Chinese heritage and often come to the state as college students or professionals with specialized skills.
There is no single explanation for Asian Minnesotans' income gains, but members of those groups point to a pressure to succeed in practical careers and an emphasis on education as a few shared pathways.
Consistent growth The Fed data shows once Asian Minnesotans reach the highest income levels, this group also has unusually high rates of "persistence," meaning their incomes don't fall back down again.
Many Indian immigrants move here on visas for highly specialized workers, which could explain why their income stays high. But that also comes with an added burden. Eden Prairie resident Murthy Ivaturi moved to the U.S. from India in 2016 to work in IT on an H-1B visa and said he feels he needs to constantly upgrade his skills and perform at a high level while he waits for his green card application to process amid an enormous backlog.
"We need to ensure we maintain our status," Ivaturi said. "That means we should have specialized skills always and we should prove … exceptional talent. We always keep ourselves running in the race and updating ourselves technology-wise."
He added: "There's a lot of pressure that comes with that."
Pressure to thrive — whether to escape poverty, improve chances of remaining in the country or satisfy personal or cultural expectations — might be another reason for Asian Minnesotans' financial rise. Another could be the state's general economy and a host of social service organizations welcoming refugees and immigrants. The Hmong American Partnership, for instance, provides job training in manufacturing, health care, IT and transportation. The Karen Organization of Minnesota also offers vocational training and job counseling to the newest wave of Asian refugees.
"We don't have an explanation for what makes Minnesota different for Asian earnings compared to Asian earnings in the U.S.," said Illenin Kondo, senior research economist with the Opportunity and Inclusive Growth Institute at the Fed of Minneapolis.
He noted nationally, 35% of Asian Americans in the bottom income quartile have a college education compared to 18% of everyone else. But in Minnesota, the gap is small: 25% of Asian Americans in the lowest income group are college-educated compared to 20% of others. So education can't fully account for the difference. Kondo also pointed out earnings for foreign-born workers nationally have been outpacing their American-born counterparts through the two decades leading to the pandemic.
"It's very strong for top earnings, but it's true across the distribution … that could be playing out a little more strongly in Minnesota," Kondo said.
This picture for Asian Minnesotans isn't universal, though. A 2021 report from the Coalition of Asian American Leaders found many felt systemic racism and structural barriers prevented the community from improving economic mobility and building wealth.
Lee Pao Xiong, director of the Center for Hmong Studies at Concordia University, recalled having 30 relatives on public assistance in California working low-wage jobs during the 1990s. As a Hmong refugee in Minnesota, he successfully encouraged them to move to his state for better employment and affordable housing.
Those family members started out driving buses and working in factories, left behind government reliance and worked their way up to stability. They and other Hmong Americans also focused on education as a way out of poverty, Xiong noted.
Now, more than half of Hmong people in Minnesota own their own home. Xiong said those who came here as children, as well as the second generation, are succeeding.
"That's the spirit of the Hmong community," he said.
Yigang Wang grew up in China and earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in California before moving to the Twin Cities in 2010 to start his career. His income steadily progressed as he advanced through the ranks and switched jobs several times, ultimately landing at his current role as an electrical engineering manager in Eden Prairie. Wang, of Plymouth, said he has found Minnesota's job market to be friendly toward Asian Americans and ripe for good engineers.
"Minnesota is very committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, not just in the university but also in the company," Wang, 45, said.
Chen Zhou is vice president of the Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society Board of Directors and lives in Plymouth. Zhou also said the state is generally welcoming to foreign-born newcomers, noting high participation in Asian American festivals and events.
"They feel they are part of this state," Zhou said of Asian Minnesotans. "They feel they are part of the community."
JERRY HOLT, STAR TRIBUNE Saengmany Ratsabout and his wife, Gao Lee, at their warehouse office at Uprooted Coffee in St. Paul on May 8. Ratsabout's rise in income enabled Lee to to quit her $94,000 human resources job and focus solely on developing the coffee business. The couple work with distributors who bring coffee from Laos to the U.S. for the pair to roast locally and sell online. Refugee mentality Ratsabout initially left a job paying around $57,000 at University of Minnesota to start a business with his wife, Gao Lee, in 2020. But their plan of selling Southeast Asian drinks at festivals imploded when the pandemic arrived. Ratsabout returned to the U as a program manager at the Institute for Advanced Studies in 2022, making $75,000, and saw his income leap to six figures when he moved to a job at the library.
Lee went from being born in public housing to eventually making nearly $94,000 working in human resources for a philanthropic foundation before her husband's rise in income enabled her to quit her job and focus solely on developing their coffee business. Now 41, Lee said it was mentally hard to leave behind that salary to pursue Uprooted Coffee because of the refugee mentality of not having enough.
But after years focusing on building her income, she decided she was ready to fulfill her passion, too. The couple now works with distributors who bring coffee from Laos to the U.S. for the pair to roast locally and sell online as well as at various stores and cafes, including the Minneapolis Laotian restaurant Khâluna. But for the parents of two teenage children in Newport, arriving at this point took many years with no generational wealth as a fallback.
"Among our friends who are doing well financially who are Asian Americans, a lot of them went into careers that they were almost guaranteed a good financial package … because they have such a commitment to making their parents proud and supporting the extended family," Lee said. "So I think sometimes in our culture, that outweighs your own interests, your own passions, a bit."

I feel as though there are enough Canadians lurking this forum to at least get some sort of discussion going? How's your job search going as a recently certified CCNA in your field? It feels as though the amount of opportunities (and salaries) for people seeking any sort of IT job is significantly lower than that of our American counterparts.
There are way more qualified applicants applying to the very few jobs in the metro areas around Canada than that of the US. One of my friends is an immigrant with his CCNP and years of experience as a network engineer in his home country and he's struggling to find anything at all.
I have a diploma in computer networking and my CCNA. 0 IT experience. I've applied to over 150 positions in the GTA and I'm struggling to find helpdesk work.
I'm thinking of going back to school to start a bachelors in InfoTech but I would be 23 by the time I'm finished with no guarantee that I can find an internship during this time. That, or I literally find some place to volunteer because I'm getting desperate at this point. The only reason I'm even considering the degree is so that I can eventually find a way out of Canada and into the US market.

Why aren't the kids protesting the greed of their professors and administrators, and instead just protesting the American taxpayer who they think should subsidize their professors and administrators? If colleges kept their salary and staffing levels flat or only increasing at the rate of inflation, college kids would not be facing this crazy affordability crisis. better yet, if colleges were under pressure to cut coss, the affordability crisi could be solved quickly -- just get back to (inflation adjusted) pre-1990 staffing and salary levels.

I don't like badmouthing businesses. I have run one for many years and it's rough. You can never please everyone all the time, and it absolutely kills me emotionally (though perhaps it shouldn't) to have an unsatisfied customer.
But I must tell others about this so that perhaps they can be spared the financial and emotional frustration that this dealership has caused us, and likely will continue to cause us.
This is a companion post to my post in CreditScore , but will focus more on our experience with the dealership than the impact to our credit scores.
My story begins as follows:
We bought a travel trailer a bit ago. It's been nearly a month now since our first interaction with the dealership, Great American RV Superstores.
We went to this dealership (one of many, actually) looking for a travel trailer that would suit our needs well, with as little modifications as possible-- I'm busy, and wanted to use the thing for vacations and such, not have another project to work on.
The sales experience was fine. The salesman was happy to show us around, offer us drinks, tell us about the travel trailers they had, even show us ones that were kind of outside of our intended scope just since we were curious about them. Very reasonable experience, overall. I have to temper my expectations here, since my partner and I absolutely hate interacting with strangers in a sales environment. Overall it was fine, though I do feel sales was pushy, and financing (which we'll get to in a moment) even more so.
Over the course of a week or so, we eventually came back and settled on a Jayco trailer they had-- it was mostly what we wanted and would need the least modifications to be what we wanted to become our 'dream RV' for what I felt was a reasonable price, compared to building the entire thing from the ground up out of a utility trailer shell-- it would even be cheaper, not to mention save me time.
This is unfortunately the end of the 'good' part.
We figured we'd put the trailer on credit for a month or so while we sold off some stuff, avoided early withdrawal penalties, etc.. I did the math, it would be cheaper like this than paying fees to move money faster, and we wanted the trailer for an upcoming trip.
Excited, we gave them a deposit [they accepted a credit card for this] of $1000.
Now, they originally tried to request $5000, and I looked at them like they were nuts. That's more than 20% the purchase price. The deposit on my truck wasn't anywhere near that much, despite having a much higher sticker price than the trailer. This should have been my first red flag.
We came back the next day (we had stuff on our schedule, literally did not have time for 2 hours of paperwork that I was confident would ensue).
The dealership did not want to take a credit card for the non-cash portion, which I understand but was kind of annoying. It's not that much, and I can't just bounce a check or credit card charge on a registered vehicle and just get away and get to keep the thing-- It's not like you can hide an RV trailer that well; the thing is nearly 30 feet long.
No worries, they said they could offer financing, and all it'd cost me was one credit pull. The salesman and financing manager went away, and came back a few minutes (well, ~20 minutes) later.
There was, at that point, as they said, a credit pull for both me and my partner.
They came back with an insane interest rate, something like 19%. I told them that I wouldn't sign something so insane, and we'd come back later in a few weeks or so and buy the RV if it was still available in cash, no financing. This should have been my second red flag, but of course, me being bad at and stressed during social interactions, I ignored this one, too.
They really didn't like the idea of us not buying the thing asap (duh), and said they could see about getting us a better rate. I told them that if they wanted to offer something else, to just call me. [Important, no additional papers, etc. were signed at this point. I did not sign any 'loan application' papers.]
The next day they came back with an offer for an interest rate of about half that, which while still bad imho, was fine enough and within the realm of reason given what interest rates are right now.
We went back to sign the paperwork... more problems ensued.
We drove ~1 hour to get there, and waited for like 2 hours, and then they told us they could not get us the paperwork to sign as the bank was closed, so we'd have to come back the following week.
What. The. F***.
Now, I understand that this is not common perhaps, but I assume more common for people buying RVs-- our time is very valuable, and I don't mean just in terms of what we bill people (though, that too in a lot of cases). We're short on time, have too much we need to get done almost always, and wasting an hour or so of our time in an area with basically no cellphone reception and being unable to accomplish any work or spend this time effectively on something we wanted is not something we were pleased with, and has a very real dollar cost for us. We effectively wasted 4 hours of both our time going there, waiting, and driving back-- 8 man-hours for what? Nothing.
Regardless of our over-inflated time valuation, I don't think anyone should have their time wasted like this. We would not require this of a customer of ours, regardless of their salary or status, it's just disrespectful.
This should have been our third red flag.
Anyways, we were promised a $200 gift card and they seemed genuinely apologetic, saying their head finance manager was out today and they were doing their best to carry on without them, and had just been unaware that the bank was closed at that point and thus couldn't produce the documents.
Okay. Fine. We left again.
We returned the next week, and finally they had paperwork to sign-- a lot of it... holy sh*t I have never seen so much paperwork to buy something. This was more paperwork than there was for our house, I am not kidding. Over 100 pages probably if you include other documents referenced by these. I read them all, I insisted, before signing. The guy did not appear pleased with this-- I realize his time is valuable, but who in their right mind signs something without reading it? It had all sorts of things that would, if we were not in the position we are, potentially be devastating. (Example, they were not very forthcoming on the fact that there was a 'demand function' on the loan-- the bank can just demand it be paid right away, in other words, because they feel like it.)
Again, that should have been another, and the final red flag. We should have walked away. But, I'm here writing this, so that's not what happened. Sunk cost fallacy and all, I guess.
So, we finally get through several hours of reading things, asking them questions, etc.. They lied a bunch through their teeth I'm sure, but this post is already too long to even start listing the things I worry about.
Once we had actually managed to get the thing purchased, they had some guy take us back and do a walkthrough of the travel trailer to prove everything was working on delivery, etc.. Honestly, I feel this walkthrough should have been it's own day given how many things there are on the trailer, and how many involve things that you have to wait on to see if they're really working properly-- like an oven, an air conditioner / heater, that sort of thing; but it's not like this lasted more than 10 minutes of the guy turning things on, asking me if I knew propane was flammable, etc..
Walkthrough guy was nice, didn't have a problem with him, but he (especially for someone who works in maintenance) didn't seem well informed. He advised me, for example, despite the travel trailer's converter / battery charger being rated for use with a Lithium replacement battery, not to do this, because it could 'blow up the electrical system'. While I am confident that the trailer's 'auto detection' feature isn't really that, and have since inspected the battery charger and it's workings, I assure you a compatible lithium replacement battery would not 'blow up' the electrical system.
He didn't even know where the circuit breakers, etc.. were, didn't know what size the water tank was, where it was, what certain ratings were, when I asked. At this point, I was mostly testing to see if they had any idea how this thing was put together, because I'd become suspicious. The guy, while nice, failed the test horribly.
This was all very disconcerting, because they are the only Jayco partnered dealership in range of our home.
We hitched up the trailer with the help of the sales guy, who incorrectly instructed me on how to hook up the break-away safety cable, and left with the trailer.
When we got it home, we hooked it up to power, water, and sewer, to go run through our actual bunch of tests.
The following things do not function correctly on this trailer:
1) The roof-mounted solar panel and charge controller for the 12v system. Completely non-functional upon arrival, and during the walkthrough (though we were told it was because there wasn't enough sun during that time). I eventually went and troubleshot this enough to determine that the entire ground wire from the charge controller was completely disconnected from the 12v system, which of course made it useless. I fixed this, but I should not have had to spend this time doing so.
2) The oven. The pilot light requires you to hold the knob in after sparking it for ~5 minutes before it will stay lit. The instructions say it should take ~5 seconds. Oven is basically useless, no one has 5 or 10 or 20 minutes to fight with it to get it to keep the pilot light lit. The walkthrough person did not check oven function, just asked, if I knew how to use it. (Yes, I do, I've owned RVs before. In fact, the Jayco travel trailer from 1985 that I use as a storage shed presently, the oven in there STILL works just as it did when new.) I have /no idea/ how to fix this, and the dealership has ignored me when I've asked them. They say they'll get back to me, they do not.
3) The air conditioner / heater. They start up, sure, but they don't stay going. The AC seems to cut out any time there's a slight voltage fluctuation on the 12v system that powers the thermostat, etc., and this happens regularly of course when you turn a light on or off or something. To get the AC to restart, you have to completely power off the system at the thermostat, and wait ~1 minute, and then power it back on. I've not solved this yet, but I'm sure I likely can... by reverse engineering the thermostat control standard and replacing it with something else, and/or stabilizing the power supply to the appliances using some electronics... but still, why should I have to do this? The thing's brand new.
4) The water pump. It rattled SO MUCH and was not screwed down properly that it almost dislodged the piping when we fired it up during testing. Eventually after some back and forth with the service guy over the phone, I settled on a solution which he admitted would not in any way void the warranty-- pipe insulation to keep the rattling down throughout the trailer (I just purchased this from Home Depot and put it on), and some extra rubber and foam, and a slightly thicker screw to hold the pump in place properly.
5) The shower plastic shroud. The backing is incorrectly / poorly installed, bulged up, etc., around the bottom, making it harder to clean. I should have noticed this but, again, with only a ~10 minute walkthrough... :/ I'm sure they'd also say it 'met standards' and was fine. I guess I'll have to fix this, too.
6) Several of the lights, after being on for a bit, 'flicker'. This is extremely odd because they're DC lights, and while one might expect the typical 60Hz flicker from a cheap LED AC light, a DC light should have no flickering. It's definitely that the light is getting hot and has a bad solder joint or something. Yet another thing that, while on it's own isn't a huge deal for me to fix, it's not on it's own. I'll have to replace a number of these light fixtures I guess, too. -_-
7) Upon crawling under the trailer, the underbelly that is supposedly 'enclosed' is hardly that. It's got so many gaps and holes that I'm genuinely worried about what will have nested in there by the time I get around to fixing it. Good thing we have so many cats around, I guess. Would some spray-foam have killed Jayco?
Now, we're not even done with the BS.
Somehow, over the next few weeks, we've gotten (both my partner and I) about a dozen credit pulls from random lenders. Like, holy crap. And of course, because they're not all at the same time and nor are they even from the same 'type' of lenders, our scores have dropped like a rock.
I don't know who over there at Great American RV Superstores is pushing some button, but this needs to stop... we're at the point where we are considering freezing our credit, because this is insane. Credit pulls from AFTER we picked up the RV? Excuse me? Why? This is borderline identity fraud.
Overall, the sales experience was fine, but everything else was bad. Logistics, financing, paperwork, service... they all dropped the ball.
I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone buy from this dealership chain, nor can I recommend at this point anyone buy a Jayco travel trailer-- apparently their build quality (like seemingly everything from everyone these days) has taken a nosedive since the 80's.
Oh, and the $200 gift card they promised us for wasting our time? No where to be found. -_- We asked about it, they dismissed it saying they would contact us when they 'got approval from management'; in other words, they just promised us something they weren't authorized to give us.

Hi, I've been thinking about applying to MBA programmes this autumn. I'd have exactly three years of experience at matriculation, which seems to be okay, but I'm worried that (a) too many opportunities will have a 4-5 YOE requirement and (b) that my non-traditional background will hurt me.
Upon graduation, I worked in software sales for a startup in NYC and then moved to Latin America, where I have an unusual role.
I was hired by a media outlet (one of the country's top newspapers) to start their consulting division, and I've been here for close to a year. I basically lead a more modest version of the Economist Intelligence Unit; my title reflects my responsibilities. I wear many hats, but I do a lot of public relations and political risk work for clients, local and foreign alike.
I am half-Latino, but I'm doing this in a completely unrelated country that I had never even visited before flying down here to interview for my current position.
I'd want to go into MBB or at least T2 consulting and would be aiming for T15 schools, ideally T7. I've had my fill of adventure, and I'd like to earn an American salary again!

Here is my criteria. I make 84 k, I am a product solution analyst for the state of Minnesota. I want to work for a stem company or local government. that means Health tech, Biotech, Healthcare and im open to other industries if the salary and company is a good fit. I want to be around other African American professionals who are thriving and educated. I would like to be in a good school district with plenty of good schools. My choices are Philly, DC Dmv area, Atlanta, Chicago and Raleigh. I am open to other cities that have not been mentioned. Although my preference would be to live on the east coast. Philly worries because I would like to buy a house and live in a safe suburb with a good school district that has a fair sized African American population. I am not opposed to living in the city as long as I have a nice sized yard and good schools.

Should I be more open to Philly? When I look at education in Philly you either need to afford private school or live in a high cost area where the public schools are good. They just dont have the educated black population like a Dc or Atlanta.
What cities on my list would you consider?
