2024.05.12 04:37 spoonfulofnosugar How to exit a swimming pool (wet) without damaging mobility aids?
I love to swim. There’s a pool in my apartment but as I’ve become more disabled, it’s been harder to get there and back.
I’ve invested in a few mobility aids now. I know I can use at least two of them to get to the pool. But I’m struggling to see how I get home while wet without damaging them.
Option 1 - Mobility scooter
This would be my first choice. It lets me save the most energy for swimming.
But it’s electric powered. I’m worried even after drying off, I’m going to drip and cause short circuits or at least water damage.
Option 2 - Recumbent trike
This doesn’t save as much energy as my scooter because I have to pedal.
But it’s manually powered so no concerns about short circuits. I do have similar concerns about rust or damaging the pleather seat.
I’m also worried people won’t recognize/believe that I’m using the trike for medical purposes. I have no energy to deal with harassment about it.
Option 3 - Manual Wheelchair
My last resort. Very tiring to self-propel.
Can’t take it on the sidewalks because they’re too steep. I could try rolling through the parking lot instead but would have to worry about cars seeing me.
No electronics but again, I don’t want to damage the seat or frame with water.
Anybody figure out a good solution? Can I put a trash bag over the seats? Wipe them down as soon as I get home? Do waterproof aids exists? Something else?

2024.05.12 04:23 doctorkat Narrow, high seat height trike?
I'm looking for recommendations. My wife had double knee surgery last year and is still recovering. The physio allows her to cycle on a static recumbent but she's wanting to get outside more. He's not happy with her cycling on a regular bike, but said a trike is possible.
We tested upright trikes at first, but they all seem to position the pedals relatively far back, meaning that her knees have to go to an acute angle, not recommended by the physio.
We then heard about recumbent trikes and tried out a Hase Trigo. This seemed perfect! The seat height is good, meaning she can easily get in and out of it, and being a recumbent, the knee angle can be quite shallow.
The problem is we live in Singapore, which has recently updates the rules for trikes and cargo bikes. Specifically, trikes wider than 70cm (27.5 inches) are not allowed on cycle paths or footpaths. The hase Trigo is approximately 83cm wide.
Is there anything equivalent to the Trigo but could fit within this very narrow width limit? Our only other option is a mobility scooter, which takes away the rehabilitation aspect.

2024.05.08 05:09 ashanobi Tall recumbent
As someone from the states, not a fabricator, I'm shocked nobody has made a tall, ~6', and 6'wide+ recumbent reverse trike, or inline(with easy stand). Just a thought. Think if I was a fabricator, i'd figure out an off-road 'bed', 3, 4 wheels, but with knees bent, sitting up. Because I'd have died laughing if I saw someone come flying over a hill on one. Dead serious, shades maybe, you'd have to check on me.

2024.04.27 14:04 Remarkable_Radish_32 So how generous are recumbent trike weight ratings anyway?
So I'm a fat bastard, big enough that I can't ride a conventional bike anymore - even with an oversized seat I find myself hurting on one after a couple minutes - but I've been using a recumbent exercise bike for a year or so now without problems. So I'm looking at getting a recumbent trike to ride to and from work - should be slightly more net riding than I do most days on my exerbike, and since its not just grinding away in front of the TV it should be easier to stay consistant or even get more exercise in.
But again. Fat bastard. I'm a tad over 400 pounds, which means that there is all of one trike I can find info on that I'm not too heavy for - a Greenspeed Magnum XL - and those are pricy. A Magnum SD or TerraTrike Rambler cost considerably less, but only have a 400 pound weight rating... how much experience do folks have with exceeding the weight rating on a trike? How much 'give' is there in one of those ratings; would I be able to get away with a slightly lower rated trike or would that just be asking for it to break on me?
Thanks in advance; folks

2024.04.27 11:32 MyRedditName Please help me find my perfect bike/trike.
I lost everything in the west coast 2020 fires and haven’t really recovered.
Everything seems expensive and out of reach and I need a life change.
My vehicle insurance has gone up 40% in the last 3 years, for no good reason, and I’m seriously thinking of ditching my vehicle for a bike and moving to a walkable/bikeable city.
I’m 50 + , 5’9”, 180lbs, 44” x-seam
I’d like a do-it-all bike as much as possible. Today’s insane pricing will only allow one. (seriously, some are more than I paid for my current automobile) There’s so many options it's difficult to wade through it all.
Looking at a long distance bikepacking/RV setup that can do hardware store and grocery runs in a hilly setting. I intend to do trips on fire roads and along the coast and I may do some multi state travels to see my mom via PCT if possible. I’m considering a YouTube vlog of my travels and will have camera equipment. A trailer is likely and lots of gear…at least until I figure out what I want/need and can pare down some.
I’ve been advised not to ride near the beach because of salt, but I know me and I will likely want to do that, so…
I have some experience on a bicycle. I used to own a Surly Pugsley with drops and fat slicks and commuted 20 miles a day to work. I could keep up with roadies fairly easily. I’m kinda done with that though. At the end of the 20 miles I was ready for a break and my palms hurt in this setup. I need something comfortable this round. I did love the fat tires.

I don't have the where-with-all to try all of these, so hopefully your advice can focus my choices a bit.
My Theoretical Favorites: Azub Ti-Fly X, Riese and Muller Load/Packster 2 70, Yuba Spicy Curry, Tern GSD
Has anyone tried a semi-recumbent seat on the rear rack of a longtail?
Security: Looking for pro-tips here. I will likely use some form of motorcycle rain tarp as a cover as well as a Ulock and chain/cable when I go into stores/Dr./etc. for any length of time. A dog would be handy, but I don’t currently have one. I plan to buy an Airtag and a seatpost alarm.
MotoHub: I’m leaning toward a Rohloff hub/Banfang, ToSeven or CYC 750 watt setup. I’m open to input here…and would listen to a good argument for a Pinion/Schlumpf and torque sensing hub motor. I want a throttle and to be able to pedal if the motor fails.

2024.04.25 09:31 philma125 Building a trike.
Hi all. I'm gonna hopefully build a tadpool recumbent trike in the up coming months. Going to add some dubble wish bone suspension and a rear suspension. Hopefully gonna be able to make it fairly light weigh.
I currently have a KMX tornado f8 recumbent trike that I bought to get a good idea of how it works and also to learn how to ride the damn thing 😂. Going to custom build some wheels for that and get it up and running electric with a mid drive for work.
So I'm 5ft5 and around 90kg (198lbs) also from the UK. Any tips on what thickness of tubing I'd likely need I was thinking of a 2mm to 5mm thickness aluminium round tubing.
I also have a electric welder, angle grinder, dremmel, tape measure, sprit lvl and other basic tools is there any other tools u fine folk would recommend me getting. Thanks and will hopefully be able to get up and biuilding this trike in around 3 months till then I'll hang around this sub and keep on reading/learning all I can about bike building :)

2024.04.19 07:12 FunkTasticus Oversized clipless bike shoe question
New to clipless shoes/pedals.
Shoe size for normal shoes USA size 11 2ee(wide)
Received clipbike shoes today (gift) for the shimano pedals on my new recumbent trike. The shoes are USA size 13.
A person im working with stated it won’t matter as long as they aren’t tight.
Logically it seems to me that this would alter where on the foot the pressure is coming from to the pedal and thus decrease the efficiency, at the very least.
Should I use them or try to get the right size?

2024.04.18 20:22 yaldylikebobobaldy Cargo bike ID
| Hello, looking for help to ID this cargo bike. I saw it on a video on fuckcars. I think the video is from critical mass in London. It looks like a mini cargo bike with an adult on the front (see picture). Maybe it's a trike? Or maybe it's just a recumbent just in front, but my guy says it's done sort of adapted bike for the disabled, which would be super rad! 2024.04.16 08:29 philma125 31 m England. Had no sleep and extremely bored/getting tired.
Hi all. I'm 31 m from the North-West of England.
So I'm. On call for work between 6am-8am and it's curntly 7:19am here. I've had no sleep so I'm hoping I don't get called in otherwise it's a 12h shift for me and I'll only get home at around 7pm XD.
Any way I'm super bored and thirsty gonna make a coffee but it would be cool if some nice folk dropped by in the comments or DM me. Open to any one who is 18+.
Some. Things I like: making home brew (alcohol), hiking, going out on my push bike, reading mostly heroic fantasy, I practice Aikido as often as I can, currently on a weight loss transformation lost 7kg (15.4lbs), I go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week to do weight teaing lost some body fat % And gained a good amount of muscle so I feel better, I have a bunch of tattoos my most recent being the right side of my face and the left side of my head to neck witch is now getting ichy, I like a lot of music and curntly lisaning to a youtube mix.
Im currently thinking of joining a MMA club even though I don't like violence I think having a skill set to defend ur self or if some one is picking on some one it would help. Also going to be making some recumbent push trikes soon in the tadpool style (Google it) and lastly I'm gonna get a lap top to do some kind of brewing and distilling course as I'm very passionate amazing craft beer and sprits mostly gin and whisky.
I'm only 5ft5 (165cm) but I'm stocky, bald head and a lot of tattoos so I look like a mean person but I promise I'm actually a big softie.
Well that's mostly me in a nut shell. Ohhh I work as well witch are funky shifts so when I'm working I will be slower to reply but I can reply on my brakes. And I'm learning to drive.
Well hopefully some of u nice folks will. Fancy a good wholesome chat so drop by :D.

Good afternoon.
I’m in my 30s but have a condition that does not allow me to ride traditional two wheel bikes. They could be very dangerous for me if I fall and I’m prone to fall due to my medical condition.
I have a recumbent trike that I LOVE. I live pretty much on the Burke Gillman in North King County and would love a group or friends to ride with recreationally but I top out at about 12 miles an hour and big hills are still a challenge for me but I am building up my strength and endurance. Are there any riding groups (mainly paved trails or road biking) that would welcome a guy riding free on three?

2024.04.13 18:21 LowTriker Best Multiscreen for laptops?
I've been an international traveler for a long time but I'm going to start DNing in September, possibly on a recumbent trike through Europe. I'm a software engineer so I do a lot technical work in addition to coding. At home I have a three monitor setup which is very efficient for me. I also have an external mouse and keyboard because I'm a tall guy with wide shoulders.
I'm looking at buying something like this so I can get more screen real estate.
https://www.amazon.com/Cevaton-Portable-Monitor-Extender-Compatible/dp/B0CT3516XG/ref=sr_1_5 Does anyone else use a multi-monitor setup while traveling? If so, what do you use? Recommndations on a travel keyboard and mouse would also be nice. Thanks!

2024.04.09 00:43 PineTreeTops Adjustable Pedal Board Idea for Wood Rig...Will it work?
I'm trying to build a wood sim rig around my recumbent trike and I'm trying to come up with ideas for an adjustable pedal board. The pedal board will be over the bike pedals when sim racing and I'll need the board to slide back around 15" afterwards so I can pedal the bike when I want.
I've been searching for various quick release ideas and found T track and cam clamps for woodworking. Does anyone have any experience with these? Would the clamps hold up to braking forces or would the board slide back? This is what I'm looking at:

2024.04.08 00:01 QuantumTarsus [WTS][USA-NC] Catrike Expedition and Villager Recumbent Trikes
Looking to sell our Catrike Expedition and Villager. Both purchased new from Ajo Bikes in Tucson, AZ circa 2017, though I think the Expedition was the previous model year. Good condition with less than average wear. To be honest, after moving back east in 2018 we have rarely ridden them (seriously miss The Loop in Tucson). The Villager's boom was cut down to fit my short wife, so it would be best suited for a short rider. That said, you can get a new boom for $125 from Utah Trikes if desired.
Photos Expedition - $1700 Villager - $1500
Local pickup in Lincolnton, NC. I would offer to meet, but I don't have my truck any more so we can't actually transport them without taking all the wheels off, and even then we could only fit one in our vehicles.
I'd be happy to send links to my eBay profile (where these are also listed).

2024.04.06 17:10 Juxtapoisson 20" wheels, adult frame. Advice?
Working backwards, as I do, I have 20 inch wheels I want to put on a bike I can ride (5'6" adult).
I cannot easily throw them on a yardsale adult bike. Derailleur and pedals will hit the ground. Single speed or IGH would help, but a yardsale bike likely doesn't have horizontal drop outs. And I can only get the crank arms so short before it sucks to ride the thing.
Many folding bike use a 20" standard, but they bring a lot of complication to the build I'd could do with out. And they seem to be maintaining a higher used-market price than anything else.
BMX bikes use 20" wheels. But, I guess (?) an adult still rides a fairly small frame (less than 22" top tube). I am uncertain this could be built up to a comfortable riding around town bike? With a tall seatpost and high bars, could I ride this like a normal bike? BMX bikes is a huge hole in my bike knowledge. Will I be able to differentiate between a 20" top tube bike made fora teen ager as opposed to made for an adult?
BMX bikes with larger wheels (24" or bigger) exist, and are adult sized. But they get back to problem one, crank arms hitting the ground if I put on 20" wheels, OR uncomfortably short cranks. Generic fixed, single speed, and cruiser frames also have this problem.
Recumbent bicycles and adult trikes (upright, recumbent, 2-1 or 1-2) do sometimes use 20" wheels, but are absolutely not the direction I want to go with this.
Is there a frame type I am missing? A solution I have not considered?
Any other insight or babble will be appreciated.

2024.04.05 21:38 beely CAP Trail Pima County, AZ
I’m interested in learning how bike riders access the Central Arizona Project Canal Trail Path in order to do a long ride separated from vehicular traffic. I see, from Pima County Map GIS system, that there is a “trailhead” (with parking!) near Tangerine Road and that a “trail” leads to the Pima/Pinal Counties border.
https://pimamaps.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappvieweindex.html?id=db5195f66dc34bca914fd2a9e6289975 I plan on checking this out to see if it is condusive for bike riding or if it is only for foot hiking. Ideally, I’d like to get off the Huckleberry Loop Santa Cruz River Park Trail and transition to the CAP Trail and continue riding North to Marana and beyond. FYI: I’d be riding a recumbent trike (CaTrike Trail) with 20x1.75 Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires and motor pedal-assist.
How far can one travel along the canal trail/path? To Picacho Peak? Eloy? Florence? Casa Grande? What digital (or analog) resources have you used to help with your discoveries? TIA for any and all assistance!
