2024.05.14 19:08 gangrelion What part of the story you wish you could rewrite/replace?

I really enjoy the story in AG. There're many high points, but some pretty low ones as well. I have nothing but respect for the writing team, but no one is perfect, so I wanted to know you guys' opinions regarding what story points they could have done better.
For example, In my case: I don't like the first chapter. I think it's a pretty weak entry point. None of the Mods get a proper introduction. Many of the jokes don't land, The first real enemies (Children of Iron) are more of a comedic relief, being easily beaten left and right. And the worst part is how poorly the world setting is explained! I remember seeing a bunch of reviews saying things like:
"It's just a VR game! There's no real stakes! So, why should I care?"
In other words: they thought AG's setting was more akin to Sword Art Online. And honestly, I can't blame them, since the explaination we get on the first chapter is really vague.
Of course, It gets much better shortly after, but by then, the damage is done. Many players might've got a bad first impression and lost interest.
I think they should repurpose Ver's Heart Link story into a new Prologue. It does a much better job at introducing the world of Gaea, the main heroine, some of the supporting casts, and the real stakes at play. There's even a perfect point to add a first battle (when Ver and the Admin first met and she saves him from visbanes), and even a tutorial battle to explain the zero time mechanics (when Admin is testing the Mimir system for the first time).
Changes like that happen more often them most would imagine. Epic 7 completely rewrote their 1st chapter last year, Counter:Side added a new Prologue 1 year later in its service, and recently, Snowbreak just announced they might rewrite some of their first chapters, so those things can happen if it helps to bring new players.
So, what's your least favorite story part and how you would want it to change?

2024.05.14 19:06 Wraith31 [QCrit] Adult Sci-Fi with Romance elements - 2211- 84k (4th Attempt)

Alright, so after some really great feedback during the last round, I made some pretty sweeping changes here, and I honestly feel like I am getting pretty close on this.
Dear ,
The Fermi Paradox asks where all the other intelligent species in the universe are; we finally have an answer...
In the 23rd century, John William Anno, a first mate turned Martian Privateer Captain, is reluctantly thrust into a role requiring him, with the help of a newly developed AI, to prevent an artificial super intelligence from destroying all sentient biological life in the galaxy.
During the course of a diplomatic mission to Earth, John thwarts a plot to infect him with a strange virus, crafted by the super intelligence, causing a planet wide quarantine. John and an intelligence officer, Inkar Tursyn, have kindled embers into flames by the time her mission to uncover the origin of the virus goes off the rails; John's timely rescue mission saves her from viral infection, but not without consequences.
As John follows the tangled threads of the unfolding conspiracy, he is tested when an unexpected encounter with a race of sentient machines, subservient to the super intelligence, threatens humanity as we know it. In a race against the clock to stop the virus on Earth, John volunteers to be the diplomat on behalf of a divided humanity. While attempting to broker peace with the sentient machines, and make first contact with a potentially hostile advanced alien race on their homeworld, John forges new connections that create a stir at home.
All these meticulously crafted, yet tenuous, alliances are strained as John deals with a crisis of confidence, while convincing them to unite, in the face of a confrontation with the super intelligence.
Complete at 84000 words, 2211 is an adult science fiction with romance elements set in year 2211. It will appeal to readers of Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky and Vagabonds by Hao Jingfang. 2211 is a standalone with series potential.

M.2 NVME Drive not recognized after power shutdown
Hello I was using a SN350 1TB from Western digital for a Minecraft server and when I turned off the breaker my server wouldn't boot because the UEFI wasn't found. I installed it on my laptop and it wasn't recognized by the bios, device manager and disk manager. Using my thermal camera I found a spot that was heating (red circle 2nd image) on what looks like the controller. The caps (blue circle 2nd image) was also "shorted" 14 omhs to ground which seems very low to me. After removing the controller the "short" was gone and after testing the pads on the desoldered controller the lines that were connected to the caps was "shorted" 14 omhs to ground. My thoughts here is that the controller is dead, what can I do? Can I swap the controller with the same drive? Swap the memory chip? Thanks!

2024.05.14 18:47 No-Kaleidoscope-4050 I don’t think my dream career is realistic

I am currently a senior in high school who will be starting college this fall. My dream is to become an oral surgeon. However I am not sure that dream is possible for someone like me.
First of all I am not even sure I am academically ready for college. My freshman year of high school I was very immature it was also COVID year so I wasn’t able to pick my classes. I was put into classes like ROTC and Band that I hated and I failed the classes on purpose because I hated them. I was purposely not doing the work and not studying for tests because I hated the class and I knew if I failed the class the counselor wouldn’t put me in the class again. My sophomore year I had the option to take honors and AP classes but at the time I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life so I stuck with regular classes. My sophomore year I hadn’t matured. I started skipping school not listening in class and not doing work at all.
My sophomore year I failed all of my classes except for one. At the end of my sophomore year my GPA was a 1.5. I had to retake those classes in summer school and I had so many classes to retake that I had to retake some of them during my junior year alongside my junior courses. My junior year I improved a bit. I didn’t have the option to take any advanced courses my junior year as I had already failed a bunch of regular courses my sophomore year so I obviously wasn’t prepared.
My junior year is when I had a moment of realization that if I wanted to go to college I would have to do better in my classes. I had also heard about this program called dual enrollment where you could leave school early or come to school late to take classes on a college campus. I grinded my junior year for the first time during high school. However my mental health got really bad during my junior year which lead to me skipping school again. By the time my dual enrollment meeting came my grades met the requirement for the program but my GPA had been ruined by my sophomore year. My counselor tried to make an agreement with the college to allow me to still be in the program but they weren’t having it so I was rejected from dual enrollment.
My senior year I enrolled in an online high school program. I decided to take two advanced courses those being Honors Chemistry and AP government. I ended up passing both courses with A’s. But sometimes I wonder is that because they were online or am I truly smart when I actually try?
I am just worried that once I get to college I am going to have a reality check that my dream of becoming an oral surgeon isn’t possible. I am majoring in one of the harder subjects that major being biochemistry. I have only taken two advanced courses one of those courses not even being related to my major. Majority of people who want to become dentists have taken full schedules of college level courses before actually going to college. I have only taken two college courses.
Dental school is very competitive. There are much smarter people than me also pursuing Predental and honestly I don’t see myself standing a chance against them. I don’t see myself doing anything besides being a dentist I don’t know what career I would pursue besides dentistry. But if my dream is unrealistic I will eventually have to choose a different career path.

2024.05.14 18:45 TrackRunner99 retake advice and application

Hello Folks. I am planning to apply this application cycle and find myself in a predicament after receiving my mcat results recently. To provide you context, I was a psychology major in college and completed all the standard pre-medical classes except for biochem which I self-studied for mcat prep. I went to a small liberal arts school where I had a GPA of 3.78. I generally did very well in my pre-med courses except for gen Chem where I struggled early in my college career. My mcat prep spanned a 6 month period with total hours studied at 760 hours. Below are my results of my practice exams in order:
11/18/23: Blueprint diagnostic: 502 ; 12/1: BP FL 1: 504 (126/125/125/128); 12/8: AAMC FL1 505 (124/127/125/129); 12/15: AAMC free scored: 502 (125/124/124/129); 12/29 BP FL 2: 505 (126/125/126/128); 1/5: BP FL3 504 (125/126/126/127); 1/19 AAMC FL2: 504 (125/124/126/129); 2/9 BP FL4 503 (125/125/125/128); 2/16: BP FL5: 505 (124/127/127/127); 2/23 Princeton demo 499 (123/125/123/128); 3/13 BP FL6: 502 (125/124/125/128); 3/22: AAMC FL 3: 509 (126/127/127/129); 4/5 AAMC FL4: 505 (126/125/125/129); 4/7 AAMC FL unscored: B/B (127 concerted), CP (127 converted)
Actual Mcat 4/12: 501 (127/123/125/126)
After each practice exam, I took the advice of many successful test takers and recorded the questions I got wrong and added new flashcards to the milesdown Anki deck. I also purchased the uplanet mcat q-bank and did every single question and re-did every question until I got 100% correct for all sections (except for orgo since I ran out of time). I generally studied like it was a full time job, around 5 hours each day over this 6 month period. Also, I did all the AAMC question packs. For section banks, I was around 65% for all 3. And for the bio volume 1 and 2 questions I was at high 70 % on both. For the independent Q's I got >80% on all sections. For chem and phys practice q's I was at about 70-80%.
My goal entering mcat prep was to study extremely hard to try to achieve my goal score of 515. I'm honestly shocked at my actual mcat score and don't really know where to go here given how much time and financial investment into preparing.
I am considering retaking the exam, but wanted to gauge opinions and when would be the latest I could retake with this current application cycle. I essentially have my primary finished already and was planning to submit in the first week of June once I got my mcat back. Thank you for any advice.

2024.05.14 18:39 Glad-Goat-3848 I 23F found out my dad wasn’t my dad through 23andMe

For the sake of the story and to avoid confusion the man who I thought was my bio dad I’ll call him NBD and my actual bio dad I’ll call BD, Step dad will be SD, and my mom will just be mom.
Two years ago, I was gifted a 23andMe test, I was excited to find out where I came from ethnically.
When I finally got my results I noticed 3 things immediately, I wasn’t Albanian, I WAS Polish, and it linked me to a great great aunt I never heard about. I called NBD mom and asked her about the great great aunt and she had no idea who it was, so I did my own digging.
I reached out to the great great aunt’s daughter and she listed family names I could look into. I eventually found someone who told me their aunt might know who my real dad was and she’d get back to me. When she finally did get back to me she apologized and said her aunt told her she would not help and that people were entitled to their secrets. I was pissed. I was entitled to the truth!!
I finally reached out to my mom and while busy she told me to send her screenshots and she would get back to me. My mom called an hour later sobbing, apologizing, up-and-down. It was then that the fact NBD wasn’t my dad really hit me. It was really traumatic finding out everything I thought I knew about myself was a lie, like I wasnt a whole person just, fragments. I wanted to be angry or sad but I was just numb. I just wanted to know who my dad really was. my mom told me she had recognized the name and immediately knew who my dad really was. She told me she had called him before calling me back and told him what was happening and that if I wanted a relationship with him, he was more than willing, but if I didn’t want a relationship with him, he was fine with that too. My mom sent me his number and I sent him a text and told him to call me whenever he could.
About a week later, I went to go meet BD for the first time as his daughter that year, my birthday ended up landing on Father’s Day (yay me) so I brought him a first Father’s Day card for a new dad as a joke to break the ice and he had bought me flowers. I was so worried he wasn’t going to like me and that his girlfriend wouldn’t like me either but they are the best!!! They had to be one year old daughter and an adopted his gfs nephew. I gained two new siblings over night. They had another baby girl last year so I added another sibling to the mix
It turned out the aunt that didn’t want to spill the family secrets is my grandmother BD mom. She apologized for not sharing, but she didn’t want me to hear it from her and wanted me to hear it from my mom. It’s been two years and my relationship with BD is amazing he texts me randomly list to let me know he loves me and to check in.
The downside is NBD family is really weird towards me now, I get that they are mad at my mom but it doesn’t feel fair to be treating me differently. Anytime I bring the situation up at all to my mom she begins to feel bad and starts crying so I can’t talk to her. BD is just so chill he doesn’t seem bothered at all so I just don’t bring it up with him really but do occasionally talk through it sometimes with his GF who I now also call mom. I’ve had some not great remarks made to me by family members basically saying that the situation should be kept quiet to avoid embarrassment or that peoples lives were ruined. Like gee thanks sorry I’m an embarrassing bastard child that ruined peoples lives. I feel like some burdensome mistake that people would be better off without and it’s not fair. I didn’t do anything wrong yet how I exist is viewed as a shameful and hushed topic rather then an honest mistake. Don’t get me wrong I’m upset I could have had a present dad rather then someone who wasn’t really around till I was 18 but COME ON. In any case I know I probably need to see a therapist about this, but it’s nice to finally vent my feelings somewhere that isn’t just in my own head. Thanks for listening.
TLDR; 23andMe test revealed my dad wasn’t my dad. I met my bio dad and he’s amazing. Definitely need therapy so cause this was traumatic but also the situation just makes me feel numb?
EXTRA CONTEXT: my mom genuinely thought NBD was my dad if there was even a doubt in her mind she would have checked. Having NBD as my dad was not a choice she would have made for me or her.

2024.05.14 18:30 ProfesserQ Is anyone down to test a new ttrpg system?

I figured this is as good. A place to ask as any but is anyone down to test a new ttrpg system? Me and my friends have been working on? I'm going to be free most days after this week and I'm looking for a group to test this system with at ender's games in Clovis.
It's a post-apocalyptic ttrpg inspired by fallout. You have an AP system and there are certain rules which dictate how many of each type of action you can take in a combat turn. It's really bare Bones right now, but I was wondering if there might be anybody willing to humor me.
I know I'm basically shouting into the void right now, but if you are interested, you could join the development discord to see some of the important docs relevant to the game.

Class 10th: no bs guide
The only tips you will ever need. I am reposting this since the last time it didnt get views.
Just crossed 10th, for all newcomers asking for advice, these are my insights which I feel are applicable to all. I guarantee this advice is much better than those "AAG LAGA DO BC" videos where shobhit nirwan screams the fuck out of his throat.
NCERT IS EVERYTHING.
I know you have heard this from many people, but trust me everything was directly from ncert. People were crying over competency based qs but none of them were as such that you couldn't do. For maths do PYQs. PYQs are much more imp than RD Sharma. Read science/ssc ncert 3-4 times and youre gtg. Complete maths ncert 4-5 times each chapter.
STUDY CONSISTENTLY

2024.05.14 18:19 TrackRunner99 retake mcat and application

I'm honestly shocked at my actual mcat score and don't really know where to go from here given how much time and financial investment I've devoted into preparing.
I am considering retaking the exam soon, but wanted to gauge opinions and when would be the latest I could retake with this current application cycle. I essentially have my primary finished already and was planning to submit in the first week of June once I got my mcat back. Thank you for any advice.

2024.05.14 18:19 tempmailgenerator Implementing Direct Email Functionality in Flutter via PHP

Exploring Email Integration in Flutter Apps

Integrating email functionality within Flutter applications offers a seamless way for users to communicate directly from their mobile or web applications. Flutter, being a versatile framework for building natively compiled applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase, provides developers with a plethora of options for incorporating external services such as email. This capability is especially crucial for apps requiring user verification, support communication, or the ability to send notifications directly to users' email addresses. By leveraging Flutter's robust ecosystem, developers can enhance user engagement and provide a more cohesive application experience.
On the other hand, PHP stands as a powerful server-side scripting language that's widely used for web development and can serve as a backend for sending emails. Combining PHP with Flutter enables developers to create a secure and efficient email sending mechanism. This integration allows for handling the email sending logic on the server side, thereby offloading the heavy lifting from the client application. It ensures that the email functionality is not only efficient but also secure, as it leverages PHP's advanced features for email delivery, including handling SMTP protocols and securing email content against potential vulnerabilities.

Enhancing Communication in Flutter Applications

Integrating direct email functionality into Flutter applications opens a new realm of possibilities for app developers and business owners. This feature is not just about sending messages; it's a strategic tool for enhancing user engagement, providing support, and facilitating transactions. For instance, a Flutter app that allows users to directly contact customer support or receive transactional emails without leaving the app significantly improves the user experience. This direct line of communication can be crucial for feedback collection, user retention, and even for marketing purposes. By implementing email functionalities, developers can craft personalized user journeys, send updates, or promotions directly to their users' inboxes, thereby fostering a stronger connection between the user and the application.
From a technical standpoint, the integration of email services within Flutter apps involves a combination of client-side and server-side operations. While Flutter provides the frontend interface, the backend, possibly powered by PHP, handles the actual email sending process. This separation of concerns not only makes the application more scalable but also enhances security by keeping sensitive information on the server side. Furthermore, it allows for more complex email functionalities to be implemented, such as automated emails triggered by specific user actions or scheduled newsletters. By leveraging these capabilities, developers can create more dynamic, responsive, and engaging applications that stand out in a crowded digital landscape.

2024.05.14 18:12 Ragnarlongcock The strangest keyboard issue I've run into so far

ll try to keep this short and simple: my keyboard (Logitech G213 Prodigy) has stopped working. Sorta.
It's a keyboard problem so obviously the keys don't work. However, the "extra" keys (play/pause, stop, skip media, lighting on/off, mute sound) all work. The other keys don't, unless they're the >=7th pressed at the same time. Yes I tested this, it works- if hold down 6 keys, doesn't matter which, the 7th, 8th, 9th, etc will give their input. If I hold down that last key it'll continue giving that input.
But it gets weirder, what I tested as a fix was: -trying every USB port on my PC, none worked -trying an extension USB cable (tested elsewhere, worked fine then), didn't work -trying the keyboard on a different PC, which worked flawlessly again. Somehow. -removing the system from power entirely multiple times -reinstalled the keyboard drivers -reinstalled ghub -tested the keyboard in bios, which worked -tried to find a new windows update or to roll it back
I'm fairly sure the problem is windows, but nothing about it changed recently. The USB ports work too, nothing else is causing any problems.
I wrote a ticket but that's yet to be of any help. Couldn't find any forum posts with remotely similar issues either, so I'm asking here for some desperately needed help.
If anyone knows anything I could try, please let me know. I'm already considering reinstalling windows entirely but I need my PC for school all week so that can't be done now.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I forgot to mention it but ghub does recognise the keyboard in every way. Lighting and reassigning works.

EXPLORATION
  • Juanicipio:
    • Infill drilling at Juanicipio continued in Q1 2024 from underground aimed at upgrading mineralization in areas expected to be mined in the near to mid-term. During Q1 2024, 11,271 metres were drilled from underground.
    • Surface drilling focused on expanding and upgrading the deeper zones and broader regional exploration started in April 2024.
    • During 2024, Juanicipio plans to drill a total of 50,000 metres, with 33,000 metres from underground and 17,000 metres from surface.
  • Deer Trail Project, Utah:
    • On May 29, 2023 MAG started a Phase 3 drilling program focused on up to three porphyry “hub” target areas thought to be the source of the manto, skarn, epithermal mineralization and extensive alteration throughout the project area including that at the Deer Trail and Carissa zones. In late 2023 an early onset of winter snowfall impacted the commencement of the third porphyry “hub” target, which is now expected to be drilled in 2024. The two completed “hub” holes to date total 2,738 metres. Both holes intercepted alteration and mineralization in line with what is expected on the edges of porphyry systems. Follow-up drill targets are planned for summer 2024.
    • With the early onset of snowfall, Phase 4 drilling focussed on lower elevations commenced in the last quarter of 2023 and continued through Q1 2024, aimed at offsetting the Carissa discovery and testing other high-potential targets in the Deer Trail mine area. During Q1 2024, 1,208 metres were drilled at Carissa with results pending.
  • Larder Project, Ontario:
    • Drilling targeting Cheminis and Bear totalled 5,391 metres in Q1 2024. Targets tested include down plunge extension of the high-grade double knuckle at the Bear East zone and extending the Cheminis south mine sequence down plunge.
    • Cheminis Update: Follow-up drilling of the Cheminis South Cadillac-Larder Break (“CLD”) mine sequence down plunge is planned to test below the most recent intercepts. Hole GAT-24-026 intersected a new zone on the north side of the CLB within a fuchsite-silica-albite altered komatiite grading 3.9 g/t gold over 16 metres with 2 higher grade shoots associated with albite dykes (see Table 1 below).
    • Bear Update: Utilizing the updated model and incorporating the updated data from recent drilling, the Bear East zone was successfully extended down plunge by up to 1,100 metres depth. Hole GAT-24-024NB intersected gold mineralization on both sides of the CLB which confirms the presence of either another structural trap at depth or the continuation of the “double knuckle” zone at surface. Gold mineralization intersected on the north zone included 9.4 g/t gold over 2.2 metres within a strongly altered komatiite with syenite intrusions and 1.6 g/t gold over 4.2 metres on the south zone within the south iron-rich volcanics (see Table 1 below). Bear East remains open in all directions.

(1) Equivalent silver head grades have been calculated using the following price assumptions to translate gold, lead and zinc to “equivalent” silver head grade: $23/oz silver, $1,950/oz gold, $0.95/lb lead and $1.15/lb zinc (Q1 2023: $21.85/oz silver, $1,775/oz gold, $0.915/lb lead and $1.30/lb zinc).
(2) Equivalent silver payable ounces have been calculated using realized price assumptions to translate gold, lead and zinc to “equivalent” silver payable ounces (metal quantity, multiplied by metal price, divided by silver price). Q1 2024 realized prices of $23.73/oz silver, $2,112.27/oz gold, $0.92/lb lead and $1.08/lb zinc (Q1 2023 realized prices of $22.93/oz silver, $1,959.50/oz gold, $0.94/lb lead and $1.43/lb zinc).
During the three months ended March 31, 2024 a total of 325,081 tonnes of ore were mined. This represents an increase of 45% over Q1 2023. Increases in mined tonnages at Juanicipio have been driven by the operational ramp up of the mine towards steady state targets.
During the three months ended March 31, 2024 a total of 325,683 tonnes of ore were processed through the Juanicipio plant; no ore was processed at the nearby Fresnillo and Saucito processing plants (100% owned by Fresnillo). This represents an increase of 47% over Q1 2023. The increase in milled tonnage has been driven by the Juanicipio mill commissioning and operational ramp up to nameplate capacity over the course of 2023.
The silver head grade and equivalent silver head grade for the ore processed in the three months ended March 31, 2024 was 476 g/t and 713 g/t, respectively (three months ended March 31, 2023: 363 g/t and 530 g/t, respectively). Head grades in Q1 2023 were lower as low-grade commissioning stockpiles were processed through the Juanicipio plant. Silver metallurgical recovery during Q1 2024 was 89.1% (Q1 2023: 87.0%) reflecting ongoing optimizations in the processing plant.

Sales increased by $72,207 during the three months ended March 31, 2024, mainly due to 179% higher metal volumes and 2% higher realized metal prices.
Offsetting higher sales was higher production cost ($9,409) which was driven by higher sales and operational ramp-up in mining and processing, including $3,545 in inventory movements, and higher depreciation ($14,083) as the Juanicipio mill achieved commercial production and commenced depreciating the processing facility and associated equipment in June 2023. Operating margin increased by 21% to 52%, mainly due to operational leverage and the lower reliance on the nearby Fresnillo and Saucito processing facilities.
Other expenses increased by $2,159 mainly as a result of higher extraordinary mining and other duties ($872) in relation to higher precious metal revenues from the sale of concentrates and higher consulting and administrative expenses ($2,690) as an operator services agreement became effective upon initiation of commercial production (the “Operator Services Agreement”), offset by lower exchange losses and other costs ($1,566).
Taxes increased by $20,980 impacted by higher taxable profits generated during Q1 2024, and non-cash deferred tax credits related to the commencement of use of plant and equipment in Q1 2023.

2024.05.14 17:55 Poisoning-The-Well Would Reverend Mother Mohiam actually have killed Paul?

The last time I read the Dune novels was 15 years ago. After watching Dune 2, I am reading them again. I just finished the first chapter and it's still so good. There is a lot going on in just the first chapter.
I'm thinking about whether Mohiam would have literally killed Paul or not. On one side, it kind of feels suicidal to kill the Duke's son in his mother's sun room on their home planet. I guess Jessica could have provided cover or helped her escape. One would think there would be rumors about GB killing nobles or such if that was the case. If Paul failed, I don't think she would care about killing an animal, but would think she cares about her own neck.
Or if he failed, would she have done nothing. Jessica your son is an animal. He is of no use to GB's breeding program. There is no human there. He is dead to us.
However, if Paul's life isn't really on the line, it kind of makes the test pointless.
IIRC, Feyd was tested. Killing him seems even more suicidal. Farad'n was tested also. iirc.
I don't if that makes sense. Guess I just wanted others take on this scene.

2024.05.14 17:54 Joshh170 Xbox Insider Update Could Make Downloading Future Updates Easier

Xbox Insider Update Could Make Downloading Future Updates Easier
Microsoft is preparing to roll out a new update for Xbox console owners, one which might improve the experience of updating an installed game on the Xbox Series X/S. The Xbox console update is being tested via Microsoft's Xbox Insider program.
The modern game environment is one of constant updates and iteration. As all but the smallest retro consoles can be expected to connect to the internet these days, publishers, developers, and platform makers continuously release updates through patches, hotfixes, and scheduled additions for players to download. Even older games can get updates that significantly change the way they play. For example, Fallout 4 received an update to improve its performance on hardware and consoles that didn't exist when the game first released.
The latest Xbox console update might make the experience of managing a game's updates a little more convenient for Xbox Series X/S owners. According to a post on the Xbox support page, Microsoft is testing a new update that will introduce pre-downloading game updates, or downloading of the majority of an installed game's files and data to a player's hardware before that data is officially released and usable. This will allow games that support the feature to download necessary files early. Then, players can immediately install updates on release day and more quickly begin playing. These may include periodic updates to live service titles, like Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2, but the first game that will support update pre-loading is Sea of Thieves, via the game's own Insider program.
Microsoft's Xbox system update is available through the Xbox Insider Program, within the program's exclusive Alpha Ring. The Xbox Insider Alpha Ring puts new system updates and features through closed alpha testing and is only open to those invited by Microsoft itself. Larger Xbox Insider Program testing rings may receive the update later as bugs are worked out and the update moves from alpha into beta phase. Microsoft's post did not specify when the update would be released to the wider population. Previous Xbox system updates have included fixes to bugs and alterations to the user experience. The most recent Xbox system update was mainly focused on fixing audio issues when playing.
The pre-loading feature is common on both consoles and PC in the realm of digital games, where players can start downloading game files before their release date in order to be able to play as soon as possible after they're officially launched. The increasing size of blockbuster video games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and others necessitates pre-loading as a convenience feature for players who may have slower internet connections or limited time in which to download games. It makes sense that that convenience be extended to updates, too, as they balloon in size.

2024.05.14 17:46 TheFreeTimeDriver I did a 3 month AR experiment. Here are the results.

I decided to do a 3 month experiment to try and get my AR above 50% so I could receive high paying offers. I decided to do this after having a slow day and realizing my AR was at 28%. DD displays messages saying if you are above 50%, you will receive priority to get higher paying offers. Some have said AR doesn't matter and others believe it does. I had to put it to the test!
Started on January 27, 2024 with an AR of 28%. I got my AR above 50% on February 11, 2024. My peak AR was 95% on March 24, 2024.
I made a spreadsheet documenting almost everything. The day, date, AR at the beginning of the day, AR at the end of the day, Active time, Dash time, How much made on DD, how much made on other apps, miles driven, Offers, deliveries, Customer tips, DD pay, Gas cost, Gast cost per gallon and how many high paying offers I received.
Screenshots were taken on most of my offers before I took them and after (a couple times I would forget but I got most of them).
Here is the story of my journey.
I DD and use other apps like UE and GH as a side gig for almost two years and work only on Saturday and Sunday (6ish hours Saturday, 8 hours Sunday). Monday-Friday I have another full time job. Since I was cherry picking offers, that tanked my AR below 50% but the pay was still pretty decent as I was still getting good offers. I make most my money on DD because UE and GH isn't doing that well in my market but occasionally I'll get good offers. It's a slow market where I'm at and there's a lot of other drivers. I do live in the biggest city in my state but it's not like NY, Cali or Florida.
One week I noticed it was pretty slow on DD and the following week was also slow. I've had a couple slow days before but not too bad and not two days in a row. It was unusual to have both Saturday and Sundays back to back not getting many offers and the same thing happening the next week. I didn't know if it was because of Winter or the beginning of a new year where people are trying to lose weight.
I kept seeing these messages from DD saying if I get my AR above 50%, I'd get priority over high paying offers and was thinking if I got my AR high enough, I'd start making good money again. On January 27 I took almost every single offer DD sent me and refused to multi-app so I could focus only on DD. There were only a couple offers I didn't take that were like $2.25 to go 14+ miles. Without a doubt I declined those but still took many horrible offers like $5 to go 7 miles, $3 to go 2 miles, $7 to go 12 miles, etc.
I was able to get my AR to 50% in about a month and peaked at 95% in 3 months. I could've raised it sooner if I did this full time instead of two days a week. I was making more money but not by much (I've made more with a very low AR below 50% and cherry picking). Since I was taking most offers, I drove more miles and of course that means more gas I had to pay. DD was sending me more high paying offers, which many were actually good pay for low distance. However, some of those 'high paying offers' were $4 to go 2 miles. Occasionally I would get offers like $7 to go 2 miles and DD didn't flag it as a 'high pay offer'.
I received the most high paying offers when I was at 83-85% AR. Within the 90% AR range I received a good amount of high paying offers but one day I never received a high paying offer. It was a slow day.
The day I received the most high paying offers was when my AR was between 80-85% (11 high pay offers). The day where I received no high paying offers was when my AR was between 88-90% (0 high pay offers but it was a slow day). Here are a couple more days where I didn't receive many high paying offers:
Once I hit my peak at 95% AR, I was starting to get more comfortable declining terrible orders now since I was above 50%. I would still take many crappy offers but they weren't too bad. Even though DD was sending me more high paying offers, I felt like I was receiving more terrible offers at the same time. By terrible I mean like no tip orders to go 12+ miles. I was not going to take them so I declined and my AR would start dropping. I noticed DD kept sending me terrible orders the higher my AR was so with that over time, I had to resort to cherry picking again and my AR dropped below 50% within a few weeks. It was not sustainable for me to stay above 50%.
How am I doing Today? My AR is currently at 23%. I still make pretty good money cherry picking. Not as much as when I was above 50% but psychology wise, I'm mentally healthier. I'm not paranoid and stressing to keep above 50%. Even when I my AR was above 50%, the pay wasn't that much greater and since I was taking a bunch of crappy offers to keep my AR high, I had to buy more gas to travel for low pay. I'm now back to multi-apping.
In my opinion and the type of market I'm in, it's not worth being above 50% AR. Can you make more money? Sure. You will get more high paying offers. Are there drawbacks? Yes. You will still need to take more crappy offers and travel further for low pay to keep the AR from dropping and in return, DD will also send you more high paying offers.
My experience may not reflect the same as others in good markets. This is all coming from someone in a slow market where DD is dominate above UE and GH. I know all these delivery apps are playing a mental game with all of us. They'll do anything to manipulate us into taking offers and punishing us at the same time.
If anyone has any questions let me know.

2024.05.14 17:32 Rachel_Rugelach Names frequency for males in Chabad engagement records

Due to requests and expressed interest (from u/hsm3, u/Ok_Ambassador9091, u/joyoftechs and maybe some others), I am posting an expanded version for a comment post I previously made on names frequency in the Chabad community.
I've compiled these 100 male first names from the marriage engagement announcements for 2,663 couples in the Chabad community, covering a period from the year 2014 to the present day (May 14, 2024). Names are listed in order of frequency, from highest to lowest. Where more than one name shared the same frequency number, I have arranged those alphabetically.
I have not combined spelling variations or apparent nicknames, such as Mendy or Menny, with presumed full names such as Mendel or Menachem Mendel, or Yossi with Yosef, or Ari with Arye/Aryeh, etc. Particularly since some nicknames can be presumed to stand for several different names, such as Eli for Eliyahu or Eliezer, or even stand in their own right as the actual given name of the individual. Instead, I have recorded the names of individuals exactly as they appeared in the public engagement announcements with the understanding that these are the designated names that these individuals use for self-identification. These names are presented here in descending order of frequency.
Numbers in parentheses that follow each name represent the total number of times the name appeared within the engagement announcements. Additionally, the first five names on the list below also include the percentage of the name in the total names compiled.
Following the frequency statistics for some first names on the list, I have additionally shown their appearance as combination names. For reasons of privacy, I have not shown combination names with less than a total of three occurrences.
To quote from the first verse of the first chapter of Shemot (Exodus): ואלה שמות "And these are the names..."
  1. Mendel (214 / 8.03%)
  2. Mendy (196 / 7.36%)
  3. Levi (137 / 5.14%): This includes 5 occurrences of Levi Yitzchok.
  4. Menachem (93 / 3.49%): This includes 35 occurrences of Menachem Mendel.
  5. Yossi (90 / 3.37%)
  6. Moshe (65)
  7. Dovid (63): This includes 3 occurrences of Dovid Leib.
  8. Chaim (59): This includes 3 occurrences of Chaim Yisroel.
  9. Eli (53)
  10. Sholom (47): This includes 23 occurrences of Sholom Ber.
  11. Yosef (41): This includes 5 occurrences of Yosef Yitzchok, and 3 occurrences of Yosef Yitzchak.
  12. Meir (40): This includes 3 occurrences of Meir Shlomo.

Popular name combinations generally come from either the traditional combining of a Hebrew name with its Yiddish calque (translated name), as in Aryeh Leib or Dov Ber, or from the names of notable Chabad-Lubavitcher rabbis/rebbes of the past, such as Menachem Mendel (the Rebbe, seventh and most beloved spiritual leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement), Levi Yitzchok (the Rebbe's father), Yosef Yitzchok/Yitzchak (the Rebbe's father-in-law and sixth spiritual leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement), Sholom/Shalom Ber or Dovber (the fifth spiritual leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement), etc.
