Recently I discovered my husband has been going on to chatrooms like omelet but texting version and finding people to degrade and text and exchange pics and vids with on snap. I used to be extremely sexual and crazy but through lots of therapy and outpatient treatment and his love and care for me I got better. He says he's hyper sexual and can't control himself so he figured this would be the best way to deal with it. It's fucking cheating though. I have terrible body issues and am actively working on that. But like this has really set me back mentally. He says he is going to go to therapy but it feels like he's only doing it because he got caught and because he wants to explore this together. But he's a shit lover very selfish and unexperienced and lack the motivation to do anything about it. It just feels terrible like your out cheating and spending all this time and energy on others when you can't even make your wife O?? You want me to participate in degradee and public stuff and multiple partners lifestyle but can't be the partner that I feel safe, value and trusting with? This is all just alot and I feel really shitty about myself and I feel like this will never change. He as a person is great, he's shown me what it's like to be loved and have my needs met and all the things my traumatized ass never had before. But I'm realizing all of that really stopped when I got control of my hypersexuality. Wtf.

I’m so sorry for asking another standby question, I did search for a possible answer along with Google and YouTube but no luck. Heading to nyc this week and wife heard who’s gonna be on so I made the suggestion “we can stand in line” (the things we do for love). Anyway my question is when I do the email Thursday morning and it says “how many tickets” im clicking 2 (me and my wife) correct? Reason for this simple question is cause in some vids I’ve seen or even posts I’ve read I continuously hearead every person needs their own ticket. CHICKENS do not always enjoy an honorable posItion among city-bred people, although the egg, I notice, goes on and on. Right now the hen is in favor. The war has deified her and she is the darling of the home front, feted at conference tables, praised in every smoking car, her girlish ways and curious habits the topic of many an excited husbandryman to whom yesterday she was a stranger without honor or allure.
My own attachment to the hen dates from 1907, and I have been faithful to her in good times and bad. Ours has not always been an easy relationship to maintain. At first, as a boy in a carefully zoned suburb, I had neighbors and police to reckon with; my chickens had to be as closely guarded as an underground newspaper. Later, as a man in the country, I had my old friends in town to reckon with, most of whom regarded the hen as a comic prop straight out of vaudeville. When I would return to city haunts for a visit, these friends would greet me with a patronizing little smile and the withering question: "How are all the chickens?" Their scorn only increased my devotion to the hen. I remained loyal, as a man would to a bride whom his family received with open ridicule. Now it is my turn to wear the smile, as I listen to the enthusiastic cackling of urbanites, who have suddenly taken up the hen socially and who fill the air with their newfound ecstasy and knowledge and the relative charms of the New Hampshire Red and the Laced Wyandotte. You would think, from their nervous cries of wonder and praise, that the hen was hatched yesterday in the suburbs of New York, instead of in the remote past in the jungles of India.
I am writing these preliminary remarks without having had the opportunity of reading what Mr. Jones, the author, has to say by way of instruction. To a man who keeps hens, all poultry lore is exciting and endlessly fascinating. I must have read millions of words of it, over the years, and I am not tired yet. The subject seems to improve by much repetition. Every spring I settle down with my farm journal and read, with the same glazed expression on my face, the age-old story of how to prepare a brooder house -- as a housemaid might read, with utter absorption, an article on how to make a bed.
Since this book is a guide, I feel I should instruct the reader, and should not only praise the hen but bury her. Luckily I can squeeze everything I know about chickens into a single paragraph, and it is presumably my duty to do so without further delay. Here then, is my Basic Chicken Guide:
Be tidy. Be brave. Elevate all laying house feeders and waterers twenty-two inches off the floor. Use U-shaped rather than V-shaped feeders, fill them half full, and don't refill till they are empty. Walk, don't run. Never carry any strange object into the henhouse with you. Don't try to convey your enthusiasm for chickens to anyone else. Electricity is easier than coal, but an electric brooder should be equipped with a small fan in its apex to provide a down-draft. Keep Rocks if you are a nervous man, Reds if you are a quiet one. Don't drop shingle nails on a brooder house floor. Never give day-old chicks starter mash for the first couple of days -- give chick feed, which is finely cracked grain. Don't start three hundred chicks if all you want is eight eggs a day for your own table. Don't brood with electricity unless you are willing to get out bed at 3 A.M. for a thunderstorm and a blown fuse. Do all your thinking and planning backwards, starting with a sold egg, ending with a boughten starter. Don't keep chickens if you don't like chickens, or even if you don't like chicken manure. Always count your chickens before they are hatched. If you haven't got three hundred dollars and don't expect to have, don't buy three hundred day-old chicks, because you will soon need three hundred dollars. Use clean sawdust for nest material and renew it often. Never use straw for litter unless it is chopped. Tie your shoelaces in a double knot in the morning when you get dressed, since hens are under the impression that shoelaces are worms. When you move birds from a brooder house to a range shelter, keep them locked up in the shelter for two nights and one day before letting them out to play.
That is my basic guide. I have no doubt Mr. Jones should be consulted also.
A common charge made against the hen is that she is a silly creature. It is a false charge. A hen is an alarmist but she is not silly. She has a strong sense of disaster, but many of her fears seem to me well founded: I have seen inexperienced people doing things around hens which, if I were a hen, would alarm me, too. Last December, after about sixteen weeks of collecting eggs in my laying house without causing any undue alarm among the birds, I went in one morning wearing a wrist watch my wife had given me for Christmas. I opened the first deck of nests and thrust my hand in under a hen to pull the eggs out. The hen took One look at the watch and shrieked, "A time bomb!" Instantly the whole house was in an uproar, with hens trampling each other in a mad rush for the comers. This sort of panicky behavior causes some people to regard the hen as a silly creature.
Countless persons have had disastrous experiences with chickens -- city persons who have imagined they could retire to the country and, with no previous training and no particular aptitude, make a nice living with hens. They might better have chosen dancing bears. The countryside is strewn with the crumbling ruins of their once golden adventure. Few people have any idea how much it costs to maintain chickens in the style to which they have been accustomed, how much and how varied the equipment required, how insatiable their appetite for grain, how many stages there are to the growth and development of a laying fowl, how easily the flock can be wiped out, how much labor is involved. It seems to me that anyone who proposes to go in for chickens should start slowly and cautiously -- not with a lot of new buildings and shiny fountains but with a few ready-made pullets from good stock. If chickens are to be merely a luxury or a fad, and you have money in your pants and want to erect a dream palace for hens and hire a governess to look after their wants and button them up, then that is a different story; but I am sure it is not sensible to hens extravagantly, or ineptly, or at too great cost in materials and time.
In one matter I may be at variance with the author and publishers of this book, namely, the definition of a "small flock." My idea of a small flock is a flock of twelve. Or at the most, eighteen. Anything over eighteen is not a small flock, in my opinion, but big one. I know that a flock of two or three hundred birds is often spoken of as a small flock, and maybe it is, but I will let the reader answer for himself on the night in late spring when he comes in to bed after having transferred his three hundred young birds from their brooder houses to the range, picking each bird up in the darkness, loading it into a truck or wheelbarrow, transporting the living cargo to its destination, and then picking each bird up again and placing it darkly on the roosts. If after performing this nocturnal bit of husbandry he still thinks three hundred is a small flock, he is entitled to his opinion.
Keeping chickens, like any other year-round work, loses some of its original luster after long periods of it. But a man who really gets on close terms with hens is not apt to want escape. There are moments and days of discouragement: a hen on a sad morning making her sad noise and undoing your cleverest devices can take the stuffing out of a man about as fast as anything I know. There are other moments and days which are richly rewarding and exhilarating. The feeling I had as a boy for the miracle of incubation, my respect for the strange calm of broodiness, and my awe at an egg pipped from within after twenty-one days of meditation and prayer -- these have diminished but slightly. It was a city man, Clarence Day, who wrote:
Oh who that ever lived and loved
Can look upon an egg unmoved?
Surely that is the gentlest tribute and most exhausting sentiment ever written on this inexhaustible subject. Reader, if you can look upon an egg unmoved, stay away from hens!

Hi, just got a temp colostomy bag after a 13 day hospital stay due to diverticula perforating my bowel. The surgery saved my life. Needless to say this has been life changing and nerve wracking for my wife and I.
I am only 4 days into what is supposed to be a 3 mth heal before I go in for a repair. I am struggling with lots of pain, anxiety, and things like figuring out the right bags and the easiest way to swap them. Ive watched vids of lifers and others doing all this like its no big thing and right now it's just challenging.
My wife is a Rockstar taking care of me but it's taken a toll on her too. I know its supposed to only be 3 mths but that seems so far away. (Not to diminish those who don't have that luxury of course)
For anyone who had similar, how long did it take before your stomach even felt normal? I have zero appetite and have to force myself to eat things at times. I also have a form of gustatory rhinitis that causes my nose to run with warm foods, as well as acid reflux, making it even more trying.
I struggle with how much to bite and chew, and just tons of other things like the proper way to sleep. To top it off since I've been home we are pretty much on our own dealing with it all. I'm having lots of trouble not being depressed over everything.

2024.05.11 18:05 RicottaPuffs Mediumship as a Varied form of Experience. Musing on Some.of the Experiences and the Differences for Psychic and Mediums Now, as Opposed to my Younger Exploits.

Over the years, I have developed a much broader sense of spirit than I originally conceived as a child and as a teen and as an adult.
I discovered that as the years have passed, that I am much more aware of spirit than I was earlier. Of course, I have more time now to explore. I sought more training and taught myself a great deal.
The sheer number of spirits is astounding. The lines for me between those in this dimension and others are less distinct. So, I have had to learn discernment to sort most of them. Some defy descriptions and placement.
When I began, there were no real resources in print other than a Hans Holzer book about ghosts and a few books, such as the tomes written/dictated by the wife and son of Edgar Cayce
Shamanism and mediumship were not as accessible as they are now. They are considered a years long process for reasons that involve self-assessment and safety.
The experiences of the newer and younger mediums are influenced by a much broader selection of resources. Some few are good. Some are utter nonsense and IMO dangerous. This includes DIY vids on YouTube. Instant development is not a thing. Chanting and meditation and following "how to" instructions on video feeds are risky. Even mentors who offer services to increase psychic abilities need to be evaluated as motivation.
For example, I know a few hopefuls who have fallen prey to mentors whose primary goal was sexual conquest, cult recruitment, and other nefarious purposes.Some become victims of the mentors, financially Some are helping their mentors power trip.
Some have done well. Others have gone into psychosis. It isn't easy to process the regrets and grief of the living. Other spirits are an entire universe of diversity.
I can only speak for myself. My colleagues know how much learning is a continuing process. We need emotional support.
My experiences were not something I shared with anyone who was not close to me. I only trusted very few others.
I've noticed younger psychics taking so many risks. I knew that revealing I was psychic in any form could have cost me my job, any promotions, and my professional credibility. So, I did not run around yelling, "I'm psychic."
I still found out one of my menial, and, I do mean menial (discount fashion industry) an employee was assigned to read all my online correspondence, and that included my online training as a psychic.
So, I had to change venues to telephone correspondence and astral training to protect myself and those involved. Their excuse was to check for potential thievery.
(BTW, I think it is unwise for supervisors to discuss employees' online exploits within earshot of those employees.I wasn't deaf and between my colleague and I, we concocted some very wild bs for their entertainment. It was supposed to be a big supervisor secret. Some of those assigned supervisors had religious beliefs that conflicted with mine to the extent I became alarmed due to their references to witch burnings.There was derision. Again. I'm not deaf.) It was that concerning.
Being me, I decided impulsively to write some things that should have been private, that were completely fabricated for their continued entertainment.) Be careful if you ever work for a corporation whose founder started selling ties door to door and who is now considered a great international philanthropist. (Your personal correspondence is not safe. They have your email addresses as a condition of employment.)
Only a few colleagues ever knew. Two principals, one librarian, and two other teachers.
Other than that, I kept my knowledge base guarded.
I've noticed I can't go anywhere where there are no spirits, and the more I learn, the more I understand that spirits are as diverse as all of nature. I've noticed that there is an increased interest in psychic abilities(which is lovely) as well an increase in the numbers of individuals who have so emotional baggage that delving headfirst in the maelstrom that is spirit work, is overwhelming in its complexity and the problems that it creates for young psychics.
I spent eight years at one school where I did not reveal myself until a colleague complained that she had permission from one other principal to do some ghost hunting over a weekend. She said she heard nothing and only caught one orb(insect) in two days.
I was two weeks from the end of my contract there. I looked at her and asked if she wanted excerpts from my spirit interaction there, the cemetery next door, and to know where the bodies (were quite literally. buried Poltergeist movie style,) on school grounds.
She asked why I hadn't told anyone. I told her my career had been important to me.and it was about service to others, not to showcasing my skills.
I wish beginning and intermediate psychics understood the extent to which going public could impact their lives.
This has occupied me for about a week.

solo rope drop trip report
all by myself, rope drop, california adventure
1) i walked up to the harbor gate around 6:05am and it was still locked, nobody else was there and i was surprised
2) nobody else showed up until around 6:30 and security opened the gate around 6:40 and moved us up to the main security check point. they started checking bags at 7am and i lined up first for dca
3) i watched netflix on my ipad until they opened the front gates and let us into the park around 7:30 where i planned to rope drop guardians
4) i was right at the rope when they dropped it at 8, and they keep employees leading everybody so nobody is running and they start the line for guardians while we’re walking, telling everyone to follow this cast member and start forming “an orderly line”
5) we waited probably for about another 20 minutes at the gantry gate and finally hopped on and hopped off. i was hoping to get a reride but the line was already at 50 minutes
6) i pressed on to try and single rider cars, but of course it was closed. i knew it would be, so i kept going to incredicoaster which only was saying 5 minutes
7) i got my ride on incredicoaster then ended up walking on to a swinging gondola for the ferris wheel. its been years since ive done this since my wife hates heights and has motion sickness, so we never do this one.
8) did the full loop to hit goofys sky school, jumpin jellys, and symphony swings.
9) i stopped by the cappucino cart after this to get my steak breakfast burrito and salsa cup. i was about to eat it but then i noticed grizzly rapids was only at 5 minutes, so i stuffed the burrito in my backpack and walked on to grizzly.
10) after grizzly i headed to smokejumpers for the blueberry tequila drink which was almost 25 bucks after tax but whatever. i walked back to the benches by grizzly rapids to eat my burrito and drink my drink. burrito was 9/10, the salsa was spicy and it was very good, the tequila drink was also very refreshing
11) after i ate i wanted to try to head over to cars land again but decided i would do soarin since there was no line outside at all but still ended up waiting about 20ish minutes inside, so close yet so far
12) walked back over to carsland and stopped at flos for the pear marg, so i could sip it while i waited in the cars line. i waited in single rider for almost an hour just for the ride to break down and castmembers exited the line.
13) i decided to go over to hollywood lounge for the motorama girl and check out the drive in thing and figured id walk back to cars after and wait for it to reopen
14) walked back to cars, and it was still closed but they were testing it so i knew it was going to open, waited for a few mins and it sure enough did. walked on to the cars ride but it broke down again right as we were about to get off so we were sitting on the brakes for at least 10 minutes i would say
15) anyways after cars, i walked back up through the main street up to pixar pier and noticed they were starting to open up the pixar booths. i grabbed an h20 marg (10/10) from the elemental booth and then decided to try and single rider incredicoaster
16) i pounded my drink and got my ride in, and it was almost 3pm now so i started walking over to disneyland to catch the parade
17) found a good spot on main street and i gotta say, i really enjoyed the parade. the moana dancers were awesome and the music was great
18) the next parade was starting at 4pm at califoria adventure so after the disneyland parade i ran back over there to find a spot near hollywood so i could get another drink and snack from award wienies
19) i got the peanut butter and jelly fries with the strawberry hibiscus marg. both were good but i didnt realize how full i still was from the burrito so i was sad i couldnt finish my fries, but i had no trouble finishing my drink
20) this “get it together” parade i thought was awesome. i loved the turning red float and i cant stop singing that song. frozone, luca, and kevin also made appearances which were really funny
21) alright so after the parade it was maybe 4:30 or so and my memory and notes start getting a little hazy. i wanted to see the pixar dance party at disneyland so im pretty sure that was my next move
22) i mobbed all the way to end of disneyland to the fantasyland theater and it was worth it. there was tons of characters walking around and photo ops. i thought boos door from monsters inc was such a cool prop
23) after i got my photos and vids, i checked out toontown and got a ride on mickeys runaway railway real quick. my only ride goal for disneyland today was hyperspace mountain so after toontown thats where i headed.
24) i hopped into matterhorn single rider on the way but it wasnt moving and i was getting impatient so i jumped out of the line and started walking towards space. but i realized i was hungry so i stopped for the flatbread pizza at red rose. idk if i was hungry, drunk, or all the above but it tasted so good, i munched my pizza as i walked over to space to get into the single rider
25) my wifes was calling for me to come home so after hyper space i ended up exiting the park and walking back out harbor blvd. i honestly could have stayed the whole night, but disneyland closed at 8 for star wars night. my only other goal would have been to watch world of color, but otherwise a pretty successful 13 hour day, i had a blast

My wife is a talker. That’s fine, but I’m not. She’s gotten upset a few times about me not saying much sometimes, but we talked about it. I go whole days without speaking, outside of work, when she’s out of town. I enjoy silence and solitude. My MIL came to visit and my wife joked around that the MIL doesn’t like convos, just an audience. I laughed and realized my wife is the same god damn way. Obviously I didn’t mention it. My wife constantly tells me about random shit about her friends, whom I’ve never met. I’m just like yeah cool good for them, whatever. Today one of her friends got an award, in an area of study I have absolutely zero interest in, she came to tell me. I turned off the tv, paused my game, so she could have my undivided attention. She wanted to show me a vid of the award on her phone, okay cool, and the video was 27 minutes long lol. After a few minutes I just said “babe I’m not watching 22 more minutes of this.” And she responded “that’s okay you’re being a dick anyway.” I think my delivery was a little rough but I listen to her talk about this shit constantly. We just got back from vacation, for her birthday, and drove six hours home. She talked the whole time, which is cool but I do need a break at times. I specifically went to a room in our house so I could just do my own thing and sit in silence ya know? Edit: Read through some responses. My problem isn’t that she talks, I’m used to that and have known from the start. My problem is she is VERY well traveled and knows people literally all over the world. After 15 people, whom I’ve never met, I don’t give a fuck about what this stranger to me has done ya know? She’s very extroverted, lots of friends and shit to keep up with. I have two friends, who I’ve had since I was 12 years old, that I actually care about. Once again, I don’t mind the chatter, I do mind the subject matter. I do not give a single fuck about these people

2024.05.10 20:35 M4ttMurd0ck Finishing Crescent City 3 after the reviews (Discussion)

This is a discussion (Birthday post ig) of Hunt Athalar, so I predict this is going to be a long ass post. (Spoilers for all the series, and FYI I’m not done with CC3, just had to chill out before finishing completely)
A little context, I’m a guy and feel in love with these books after my then girlfriend, now wife, recommended to me Throne of Glass because she said I reminded her of Rowan (in terms of a loving partner that has her side constantly). I went through those books, found Heir of Fire and was disgusted by Rowan (there have been physically abuse I’ve experienced in my own life, and Rowan punching Aelin rubbed me wrong), sending me to be skeptical of all the male love interests. Now I went finished Heir of Fire, dug his character a little more, LOVED Queen of Shadows, and so on so forth. Then I read ACOTAR following my changes in expectations (I still don’t like seeing forms of abuse swept under the rug), and there was some context here too.
My wife LOVES Feyre, they’re both brown haired blue eyed girls who have difficulty reading (My wife has Dyslexia, and found Feyre super relatable). I immediately saw my wife in Feyre, and basically went by what everyone did. I loved Tamlin and Lucien, didn’t like Rhysand (or either of Feyre’s sisters), overall enjoyed the book. Now I knew Rhysand was the next love interest, again I was a little grossed out bc he drugged her (SA’d and abused her, etc.). However I really dug him and his ‘love’ for Feyre. I really enjoyed the story between the two during ACOMAF and ACOWAR, it was cute, then I sort reread it later and found him much less appealing (crazy how the books treat him like a standup good man). I still enjoy Feyre and Rhys’ relationship with each other, without a doubt the only reason I tolerate him now (all this before I read ACOSF, which we did in lead up to CC3).
We kinda read CC in a weird order, I followed her as she read CC1 and 2 before ACOSF (neither of us had the strength to deal with Nesta as the MC). Now she didn’t enjoy HOEAB right off the bat of Frost and Starlight, so she took a break, just a couple months or so before taking it back up. Like before, she fell in love with Bryce, Hunt, Ruhn (she also found Bryce more relatable, she loved how Bryce was curvy like her, and I’m on that side, there definitely needs to be more larger protagonists bc large people can be badass). Now I did not like Hunt, he thought poorly of Bryce though at least there’s no physical abuse starting it so that’s a step up I guess. I finish Crescent City 1 with pretty good thoughts on Hunt, loving Bryce, nothing special tho for the big boy. I finished HOSAB and was pretty damn excited, the ending gave EOS vibes, which was my favorite SJM book until HOEAB. I read the start of CC3, enjoyed it, saw the mixed reviews and stayed away from finishing it beyond the Autumn King’s Death. Now I thought I was going to be disappointed because of Bryce (At the time I trucked on past that point), but thought I reached the High Point in the story by the Autumn king and that the rest wasn’t worth the read. Now I’m actually trying to finish it and so far, I’m really loving it. And mostly I just love my guy Hunt Athalar.
Hunt is such a good character, and has such a good dynamic with Bryce. So one of the things I’ve seen some say is he has no personality, but in HOEAB it uses that “no personality” by his photo gallery. There’s nothing but a handful of work related photos, the Umbar Mortis didn’t need a personality for his owners to dig out, even in something as personal as one’s gallery, and we know that he’s been captive for 200 years, told and broken into thinking he’s nothing but a tool, a means to an ends that even his ex lover used. Then comes in Bryce, who takes photos and gives this to him that we read, and we know that things gave him some sort of joy because Sandriel tortured him with that. Now yes, he betrayed her by using her for the info she discovered, but was it not to try and free himself from slavery? And he even felt horrible that he did?
But moving past that, we know there’s chemistry and that the two love each other. Hunt’s very uptight and frankly scared, Bryce is loose and bold. She gave him feeling again, she cares for him, the shower scene reminded me so much of the scenes in Heir of Fire where Rowan sees the scars on Aelin after burnout. And that was all in HOEAB. Now Hunt’s a pretty moral upright guy we see in the sequel, when in his POV we know he still is seeking freedom and normalcy (since he has that now, we know he’s thinking of the people besides him and Bryce). His fear to rebel was completely due to his previous rebellion, it’s pretty safe to assume that guilt the Asteri used that to torture and break him. Again, he was told he was nothing and that he’s to blame for the deaths of his rebel allies. (Keep in mind he was broken to think he was weaker than he truly was). I need to do a reread on HOSAB pretty badly but all I needed to do here was look at a few chapters of Hunt POV, so it’s to say it’s not hidden in the text. Another sweet moment (this time with Hunt) is his gaming with Baxian. Someone he once considered a rival or enemy he’s sitting down and explaining a video game with him, and that’s was hella cute, and like Bryce to Hunt in the last book, gave Baxian some life again. (NSFW talk) Now, imma be real, I’d rather have the sex scenes a little better, or at least have the scenes in this book swapped. Their first time shouldn’t have been the feral and steamy sex that it was, having it swapped would made it feel more comfortable, if basic, which I would’ve loved, they deserve basic loving sex. (Also this is a bias, but I loved the “FaceTime sex”, as part of a former long distance couple). Anyway, more cute stuff of Bryce being sweet like providing a home for Ithan when his pack ousted him. All the book leads to the point where Hunt sends Bryce to Prythian, (which she felt was wrong, she didn’t want to leave him), and gets “re-halo’d”.
Now CC3, kicks off with him being tortured, reigniting the trauma he suffered not even years past. No, it’s not bad he wants to be comforted and recover before continuing, it doesn’t make him a “little b****” for feeling, that’s just having healthy masculinity. AT THE SAME TIME, Bryce isn’t horrible for feeling pressured to get everyone in gear (thereby pressuring Hunt), she’s stressed. Now this I didn’t enjoy my first read through attempt, even though I saw why even then, but then we have this. (Didn’t figure out out to put the photo of the page in the text so it’ll be in the comments)
No one brought up her apology, in none of the posts I saw did people mention she sobbed and apologized for in her words “everything that I said to you about getting over it”. A simple apology goes so far in a relationship, and he doesn’t bash her for her words but understands where she was coming from. (And everyone said Bryce forgot Emile, she said here he’s sent with Fury and June). Now Bryce has never had a good example of a leader. Sabine, the Asteri, the Autumn King, etc, horrible people and examples. Being a leader is absolutely new territory for Bryce, if she was excellent, she would’ve been a Mary Sue. And, I don’t quite know the context for the “baggage” comment yet but y’all saying “Aelin would never” is LYING 😭 Aelin set up her cousin to be bred, in essence taking his bodily autonomy away (Is that not SA?), and that’s not to say anything she did or would say as Celena. Now Feyre probably wouldn’t, but she did lash out at an abuser and end up hurting the abused (Beron and Lady Autumn), so TLDR they’re all flawed, some words Bryce says and trauma she has vs others doesn’t make her less worthy than them. Now let’s go to the other big thing, Hunt “hating Bryce” following Celestina and all that. Now first off, Hunt breaking the Halo was one of the most badass scene I read, big Super Sayian vibes, me love. He is finally has the power to conquer his hurt and get vengeance. He feels so unbelievably betrayed by Celestina, she was supposed to be better than the others, but I don’t think I need to validate his feelings. Now we’ve seen characters embrace a new limit to their power be overwhelmed and say or do things they’d regret, like Aelin with her own powers. And to those who think No mate should look or think that way of a mate, not only was it a time of mental weakness for him but we’ve seen couples who know their mates think poorly. Cassian thought Nesta was disgusting, and actively ignored her while she was borderline suicidal while aware that was his mate. His power at its height, he claims he’s the Umbar mortis and it’s the shower scene all over again. He’s in this mindset that he’s only powerful or useful as the Umbar Mortis, not as himself, and Bryce reminds him otherwise. (Page in the comments) As pissed off as he is, as overwhelmed as he is, the book says “his lightning crawled over her skin, but he didn’t let it hurt. He could never hurt her.” And she moves past what she thought she needed, and I’ll just show. (Again, page in the comments)
“He liked that.” “I love you, Just Bryce.” Fucking tears, but that’s just me. Nothing here is said to hurt or insult anyone’s opinion, but just to solidify the canon, you know, the endgame (which so happens to be my favorite relationship in all three series). "Ah look at you! My sweet little warlady!"
Jaruna hoists Hippolyta out of her crib in her quarters and rocks her lovingly in her arms, her eyes bright and shining as she gently dances around her room in a way that Jerry suspected that no one who didn't know the intimate face of a Cannidor would ever believe was possible. Jaruna was certainly more graceful than anyone would expect from a ten foot Amazon who could only be described as 'a beast of a woman'.
Of course that was just bias and not understanding Cannidor. They were large, and generally in charge. In your face was a common description used by humans. Aggressive and scary was more common among galactic citizens, and even within their family units they didn't reveal their private faces to any but their most intimate friends.
Yet, that didn't make them love their children less. Didn't make silly little games with an infant happen any less. Or goofy baby talk. Or just having moments where parental joy wanted to rip out of your chest like a sun rising in the sky. Cannidor were still people, and Cannidor mothers were still, on the whole, loving moms.
Of course, the Cannidor were societally proponents of 'tough love', but tough love was for your daughters as they aged and set the course for their lives. Tough love was for helping a child grow into a man or a woman. Children however, should be allowed to be children. Even Cannidor children.
Admittedly, bladed weapons were considered excellent gifts for young Cannidor children, but considering their fur protected them from a lot of damage, it was a bit less scary than handing a sword to a human child and letting them go nuts.
Besides... Considering all the blades in their own mouths, their incredible strength, a standard sword with no frills or a first ax... was a training tool as far as the Cannidor were concerned.
Hippolyta on the other hand was quite a few years from even that age, leaving Jerry to simply lay back on Jaruna's bed and watch his wife play with their daughter with a big smile on his face. Hippolyta had taken her sweet time coming, but his fourth Cannidor daughter was very much a welcome addition to the family.
The little 'pup' had the same shock of bright red hair as her mother and a downy coat of white fur that would eventually transition to the far less plush fur of a growing young Cannidor, and finally into the hardy coat of an adult. Unique for a Cannidor, Hippolyta had gray eyes. Her father's eyes.
It was little bits of cross over like that that really let Jerry enjoy the wonder in the galaxy. There was an alien race in a video game series some of his Marines had loved back on Earth that could mate with any species, but their reproductive method wasn't the messy way. They basically linked their nervous system with their partner and used their genes to 'shuffle the deck' for their child... but in a sense it wasn't a direct merging of the two parents.
Nurture of course would change that, but Jerry preferred the real world's direct hybridization all the same. Not that he needed to see himself literally in one of his children to love them, he had six adopted daughters after all, but something about catching his eye color or a feature from him in one of his children always made him smile.
"You smile any bigger than that and people will start asking if you're half Cannidor." Jaruna rumbles, giving Jerry a sly grin. "Actually, check that. They already do. Favorite fan theory on the forums if our first date comes up. There's at least a few people out there that are convinced you're a Tret with a Cannidor mother."
"Well they're gonna have a hell of a shock when word starts getting around about humans in Cannidor space."
"True that. Hell maybe we should do a signing or something. Bet the company that made the Cannidor special edition tri vid release would love it."
"Let's not. We have enough on our plate without doing private PR events. I'm not sure what this Cannidor khan we're meeting tomorrow's plan is, but I'm anticipating we're gonna have a lot of hoops to jump through."
"Mhmm."
Jaruna settles on the bed, letting Hippolyta down to eagerly crawl over to her Papa where she immediately snuggles up with a bit of a purring growl.
"Big old cuddle bug, just like her Mama." Jerry says, stroking his daughter's back. She was a big damn baby by Human standards, and she'd been growing like a weed since Jaruna had popped her out. She was just shy of sixty pounds and she'd been over thirty at birth!
"Big eater like her Mama too."
"Gotta be. A healthy mature Cannidor can top out at well over six or seven hundred pounds at maturity, ain't putting a build like this on without doing some serious growing. I imagine she'll not be too different from those dire wolf pups you and Blondie have."
"Heh. Great, I fathered a tiger cub."
Jaruna arches an eyebrow. "Damn right you did, and you're gonna father a whole bunch of her siblings on me before we're done. Still... five Cannidor daughters already. Five and a half if we want to count Lursa, gods know she's around often enough... and only one Cannidor wife. You're just the biggest stud of a bull around aintcha?"
Jaruna barks with laughter, prompting Hippolyta to try and mimic her mother, before the sweet, if large, infant yawns, displaying her gums to her parents before Jaruna picks her up and tucks her comfortably into her crib.
"Someone's ready for bed I see." Jerry notes.
"Her n'me both." Jaruna snorts, before activating the crib's privacy field. No noise in, save for some pre-selected white noise to help Hippolyta settle down, but if she fusses or cries or something goes wrong Jerry and Jaruna will be able to hear it, or for something medically related they'll get an alert. Only the Khan and her blade sisters carry the full clan name. Next up, anyone can join a clan. Cannidor without surnames are born into clans all the time, just means their mothers gave up on finding a husband and hit a fertility clinic. As to what being clanless means... things have changed. It used to basically be a death sentence on our home world. Now... I'd say most Cannidor are clanless in the old sense. Society's been changing. Being born into one of the crafting clans doesn't really mean much when you can go get a job for Cannid Solutions or something and skip the old school apprenticeship process."
"Makes sense I suppose, it is a very old school way to do things. So what's it mean modernly?"
"Well for the warrior clans they basically form a Khan's military. She'll have however many clans pledged to her banner, with subordinate khans beneath her ruling fiefs, usually worlds, in her name, if she's got a big enough domain under her banner. Becoming a real deal, true blue Cannidor warrior's a big deal. Each clan will open a handful of slots a year, call it two hundred. At least a thousand girls will show up for every slot. Girls born in the clan get a leg up of course, but plenty don't make it the first time if they even choose to attempt. My older sister only made the cut on her second go! The training only gets more brutal after that, including learning how to be an armor tech to manage your power armor."
"So if being part of a clan and meeting their standards is part of what makes a Cannidor warrior, what's that mean for merc groups like the Crimsonhewers and Blue Blades?"
"Ah they're a bit different. They've been around for a long time, and their standards are well regarded even if their recruiting practices cast a wider net than the clans. The Golden Khan gave them official status a few thousand years ago, so they're the clanless clans, or 'free clans'. They do cast that wider net, but all the clans have programs to ensure they capture as much talent as they can. Girls with a gift who aren't quite there for the tests yet can be taken into what amounts to a cadet program for example. Girls with a sharp mind and good spirit might be offered technical jobs within the clan, or introduced to the warrior clan's supporting craft clan. Those are to tradeswomen what warrior clans are to warriors. Produce some of the finest kit money can't buy. You gotta be a friend of the clan."
"Makes sense. I assume they have their own crazy selection process."
"Yep, they sniff around for talent all sorts of ways though, and they poach girls for their apprenticeship programs wherever they can, competing with Canis Solutions and other corps... gets bloody sometimes too."

Make a Cannidor feel like you're steppin on her tail and don't be surprised if you get a face full of teeth. Something to keep in mind, and some Cannidor are more sensitive to that sort of thing than others, though as both a man, and a 'small, cute thing', you'll have a lot more social leeway with a lot of the girls who haven't figured humans out yet. That said, I imagine we'll be meeting all sorts of interesting people in the next few weeks."

Me and my ex had been together for over 7 years.
This is a rather looonng one so sit back
I thought we were happy, we were engaged and had moved into a bigger house together in preparation to start a family
He’s a civil servant and used to always joke to me about how everyone slept with everyone and there was a “secret” “inner circle” of these people
Yeah I know should have seen the red flag but I just laughed and listened to the drama stories he told me about all these relationships kicking off
Fast forward a few months into living in our home, he started to do more night shifts than is actually required for his job, he was getting a lot of overtime so was working a lot more - all to save for our wedding he said. he decided he wanted to start going to the gym to get more fit
It started off as a little niggle in the back of my mind. I seemed to be getting left at home a lot more often if he was going out with mates for a drink (I used to get invited all the time) but I just put it to he’s out with the lads so whatever
One night he was going to one his workmates for the night with a few others for a birthday party, just the lads and poker - ok that was fine with me. I invited the girls around and we enjoyed plenty of wine and horror movies.
He stopped texting me at about 7pm and I didn’t hear a thing from him until the morning. I was a little annoyed. He told me he’d fallen asleep at the table while playing poker and one of his mates had actually recorded his snoring which I found hilarious
I said he’d have to show me the video. He never showed me it, I did ask several times and I’d get his mate lost his phone and he didn’t manage to send the vid before he lost it. Bearing in mind this was the kind of things his mates would be putting on FB the second they’d finish recording
The niggle became harder to ignore
Then came the email - he’d used my phone to log into his emails as he’d left his phone at work and had forgotten to log out. So I decided to have a little look back in his email history cz that niggle was starting to drive me a teeny bit nuts
And then a found it - a hotel booking for two adults in a city over an hour away - ON THE SAME DAY AS THIS BIRTHDAY PARTY. he’d told me he was sleeping at this mates house when he went so I was straight onto him about it
He told me he’d booked it for his mate and his partner as his mate wanted to do a surprise trip for his wife and didn’t want her to find out about it
Okkaayyy I didn’t really believe him and I tried to let it go.
But I just couldn’t. Why didn’t he tell me this before? Why only now that I’ve found the email booking?
It drove me a bit crazy thinking about it and I started to get depressed at the thought of was he cheating
About two months after this he started talking about one of his work mates. He referred to her as his work “little sister” (she’s 10 years younger than him) he would constantly say I should meet her as we would get along and how he felt protective of her.
At this point I was getting sick of him talking about her so I just made a comment like you sound like you’re in love with her at which he scoffed and again said no she’s like a sister to him (even said once she reminded him of his own sister)
But even with all this I was now convinced something was going on - so one night when he fell asleep I went through his phone.
And lo and behold messages. LOTS of messages between him and her. He couldn’t wait to officially be with her and she was his “princess” 🤢
Oh and there were a load of other messages to other women as well all explicit
Well my world literally came falling down in that moment. Nearly 8 years of my life wasted.
I confronted him and he admitted it all.
But he loved me and he promised me he would never do it again and he wanted to spend his life with me. It was just a stupid itch he wanted to scratch before fully settling down. Nope, I was having none of it. I was done.
Now where we were living was hours away from our hometown. And I was in a complete state and to be honest just wanted to be with my family.
A lot then happened. Without telling him my plan. I contacted my work and told them I was moving and needed to have a new contract stating home based work (I love my job) I told them everything that was going on. I had my family help me find a new place back in my hometown and I planned my escape.
This took about a month to sort. During this time I was stuck in the same house as this prick keeping my plan from him. He would beg me for forgiveness one minute then threaten me the next (he was going to throw me out, he’d switch off all the electric so I couldn’t work, he even threw straighteners at me) all of which I still have voice recordings of just in case.
I would have to call my sister on video call at night just to fall asleep I was getting that stressed.
But then I became angry and he then tried to gaslight me. It was my fault he’d strayed apparently. I did everything for him, worked full time, cleaned, cooked, shopping. Everything. But cz my work wasn’t as stressful as his I wasn’t doing enough.
Well at that I just thought F him.
On the day my plan to leave I got a lucky break, turns out he was staying at his “mates” after work that day so wouldn’t be back til the next day.
He left and his last words to me were “I love you”
Mine were “Bye (name)”
I had a van and people around the corner out of site waiting for him to leave. The minute he did the packing started. Within a couple of hours everything I was taking was loaded in the van and ready to go.
But before I posted my keys I had one last thing to do.
I had purchased several packs of itching powder a week before and now it was time to use it.
And use it I did.
I rubbed it into every item of clothing he had, inside all his underwear and inside all his socks, shirts and trousers.
I rubbed it into the bedding, I rubbed it on the half toilet roll I decided to leave behind (I took the rest)
Anything he would be touching I covered in the stuff
And I left.
He wanted to scratch an itch. Well I left him with plenty to scratch.
My final F U to him was after I had moved away I ended up sleeping with one his workmates who actually hated my ex. My ex doesn’t know but it was just an added bit of revenge for me
To this day he makes sure he gives my ex a wink from me whenever they happen to pass each other at work
I’m now happily in a new relationship and I heard recently he’s now engaged to his “work little sister”
I wish her the best cz once a cheat, always a cheat

Little did Freud know how his intellectual discoveries would transform America, which he dismissed as an “anti-paradise” or a “gigantic mistake.” Though he feared that Americans would enthusiastically “embrace and ruin psychoanalysis” by popularizing it and watering it down, he already suspected that his theories would in some way shake the country to the core. While watching the waving crowds from the deck of his ship as it docked in New York, turned to his fellow analyst Carl Gustav Jung and said, “Don’t they know we’re bringing them the plague?”
Well before the hedonism of the 1920s, a Freud-inspired revolution in sexual morals had begun. Greenwich Village bohemians, such as the writers Max Eastman and Floyd Dell, the anarchist Emma Goldman, who had been “deeply impressed by the lucidity” of Freud’s 1909 lectures, and Mabel Dodge, who ran an avant-garde salon in her apartment on Fifth Avenue, adapted psychoanalysis to create their own free-love philosophy. In the radical journal The Masses, Floyd Dell warned that “sexual emotions would not be repressed without morbid consequences.” Eastman, one of America’s first analysands, wrote a book comparing Freud and Marx: “Weren’t all forms of repression evil?” he asked rhetorically. Dell’s left-leaning analyst, a Shakespeare scholar called Dr. Samuel A. Tannenbaum who treated many of Greenwich Village artists, argued that it was healthier for young men to frequent prostitutes than to practice abstinence or masturbation.
Together they fashioned a cult of the orgasm - Mabel Dodge even went so far as to call her dog Climax. However, as Dell later admitted, their experiment was an isolated one, like that of the Oneida Community in the nineteenth century and a handful of other “obscure but pervasive sexual cults.” It was only after the Second World War that the idea of sexual liberation would permeate the culture at large.
When Wilhelm Reich, the most brilliant of the second generation of psychoanalysts who had been Freud’s pupils, arrived in New York in late August 1939, exactly thirty years after his mentor and only a few days before the outbreak of war, he was optimistic that his ideas about fusing sex and politics would be better received there than they had been in fascist Europe. Despite its veneer of Puritanism, America was a country already much preoccupied with sex - as Alfred Kinsey’s renowned investigations, which he began that same year, were to show. Reich could be said to have instigated “the sexual revolution”; a Marxist analyst, he coined the phrase in the 1930s in order to illustrate his belief that a true political revolution would only be possible once sexual repression was overthrown, the one obstacle Reich felt had scuppered the efforts of the Bolsheviks. “A sexual revolution is already in progress,” he declared, “and no power on earth will stop it.”
Reich was a sexual evangelist who held that the satisfactory orgasm made the difference between sickness and health. “There is only one thing wrong with neurotic patients,” he concluded in The Function of the Orgasm (1927): “the lack of full and repeated sexual satisfaction” (the italics are his). The orgasm was the panacea to cure all ills, he thought, including the fascism that had forced him to leave Europe. Reich sought to reconcile psychoanalysis and Marxism, thereby giving Freudianism an optimistic gloss, arguing that repression, which Freud came to believe was an inherent part of the human condition, could be shed. This would lead to what his critics dismissed as a “genital utopia” (they mocked him as “the prophet of bigger and better orgasms”). His ideas became influential in Europe, which Henry Miller, finding a new sense of purpose through sex, characterized as “the Land of Fuck.” Reich was a figurehead of the vocal sex reform movement in Vienna and Berlin before the Anschluss, after which the Nazis, who deemed it part of a Jewish conspiracy to undermine the continent, crushed it. His books were burned in Germany along with those of the German sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld and Freud.
Soon after he arrived in the United States, Reich invented the orgone energy accumulator, a wooden cupboard about the size of a telephone booth, lined with metal and insulated with steel wool - a box in which, it might be said, his ideas came almost prepackaged. Reich considered his orgone energy accumulator an almost magical device that could improve its users’ “orgastic potency” and by extension their general, and above all mental, health. He claimed that it could charge up the body with the life force that circulated in the atmosphere (a force which he christened “orgone energy”) - mysterious currents that in concentrated form could not only help dissolve repressions but also treat cancer, radiation sickness, and a host of minor ailments. As he saw it, the box’s organic material absorbed orgone energy, and the metal lining stopped it from escaping, so the box acted as a greenhouse; and, supposedly, there was a noticeable rise in temperature in the box.
Reich persuaded Albert Einstein to investigate the machine, whose workings seemed to contradict all known principles of physics, but after two weeks of tests Einstein refuted Reich’s claims. Nevertheless, the orgone box became fashionable in America in the 1940s and 1950s, when Reich rose to fame as the leader of the new sexual movement that seemed to be sweeping the country. Orgone boxes were used by such countercultural figures as Norman Mailer, J. D. Salinger, Paul Goodman, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William Burroughs - who claimed to have had a spontaneous orgasm in his. At the height of his James Bond fame, Sean Connery swore by the device, and Woody Allen parodied it in the movie Sleeper, giving it the immortal nickname “Orgasmatron.” Bohemians celebrated the orgone box as a liberation machine, the wardrobe that would lead to utopia, while to conservatives it was Pandora’s Box, out of which escaped the Freudian plague - the corrupting influence of anarchism and promiscuous sex.
Because of his radical past, Reich was placed under surveillance almost as soon as he arrived in the United States (his FBI file is 789 pages long). In 1947, after Harper’s Magazine introduced Reich to Americans as the leader of “a new cult of sex and anarchy,” the Food and Drug Administration began investigating him for making fraudulent claims about the orgone accumulator, and in 1954 a court ruled that he must stop leasing and selling his machine. When he broke the injunction he was sentenced to two years in prison. The remaining accumulators, along with thousands of copies of the journals and eleven books Rich self-published in America (including copies of The Sexual Revolution), which were thought to constitute “false advertising” for them, were incinerated.
In the ideological confusion of the postwar period, when the world was trying to get its head around what came to be called the Holocaust and intellectuals disillusioned with communism were abandoning the security of their earlier political positions, Reich’s ideas landed on fertile ground. With his tantalizing suggestion that sexual emancipation would lead to positive social change, Reich seemed to capture the mood of this convulsive moment. People sat in the orgone box hoping to dissolve the toxic dangers of conformity, which, as Reich had eloquently suggested as early as 1933, bred fascism. The literary critic Alfred Kazin wrote in his journal, “Everybody of my generation had his orgone box…his search for fulfillment. There was, God knows, no break with convention, there was just a freeing of oneself from all those parental attachments and thou shalt nots.”
In his essay “The New Lost Generation,” James Baldwin described how that generation crystallized around Reich’s thinking in the later 1940s and early 1950s:
It was a time of the most terrifying personal anarchy. If one gave a party, it was virtually certain that someone, quite possibly oneself, would have a crying jag or have to be restrained from murder or suicide. It was a time of experimentation, with sex, with marijuana, with minor infringements of the law. It seems to me that life was beginning to tell us who we were, and what life was - news no one has ever wanted to hear: and we fought back by clinging to our vision of ourselves as innocent, of love perhaps imperfect but reciprocal and enduring. And we did not know that the price of this was experience. We had been raised to believe in formulas.
In retrospect, the discovery of the orgasm - or, rather, of the orgone box - seems the least mad of the formulas that came to hand. It seemed to me….that people turned from the idea of the world being made better through politics to the idea of the world being made better through psychic and sexual health like sinners coming down the aisle at a revival meeting. And I doubted that their conversion was any more to be trusted than that. The converts, indeed, moved in a certain euphoric aura of well-being. Which would not last…There are no formulas for the improvement of the private, or any other, life - certainly not the formula of more and better orgasms. (Who decides?) The people I had been raised among had orgasms all the time, and still chopped each other with razors on Saturday nights.
“There was, God knows, no break with convention”; “the least mad of the formulas that came to hand” - both Kazin and Baldwin saw their bewildered peers breaking out of one ideological prison only to find themselves in another. Theirs was a generation teetering on a new kind of brink - full of optimism about the possibility of change, they were unsuspecting accomplices in the authorship of more insidious forms of control.
I first learned about Reich’s orgone energy accumulator in 1993 when I visited Summerhill, the “free” school in Suffolk, England, founded in 1921 by A. S. Neill. I was an anthropology student at Cambridge University and, when I asked whether I could stay for a while as a participant-observer, I was offered a large tepee as a place to sleep. I like the idea of living in it: a wigwam seemed a suitable home for a backyard anthropologist. However, everything at Summerhill - where lessons are voluntary and the pupils invent their own laws - is put to a vote, and the children decided they wanted to keep the tepee for themselves. So for that summer I lived in a bed-and-breakfast in Leiston. All the other guests worked for the nuclear power station Sizewell B: every piece of crockery and all the towels and cutlery were stamped with the nuclear power station’s logo. The owner of the B&B had been given a free pullover after a random Geiger counter inspection had determined that his own, hung out on the clothesline, harbored dangerously elevated levels of radiation.
A.S. Neill met Reich in Oslo in 1936 and soon afterward became his analysand, fitting in a dozen sessions with him one a return trip. Reich had by that time been expelled from the International Psychoanalytic Association (he had once been considered Freud’s heir apparent, but his attempts to reconcile psychoanalysis and Marxism ended up alienating practitioners of both), and pioneered a new form of analysis called “vegetotherapy,” a repudiation of the talking cure. Reich’s third wife, Ilse, described it as “doing away with the psychoanalytic taboo of never touching a patient,” and replacing it with “a physical attack by the therapist.” Reich would relax the patient’s taut muscles with deep breathing exercises and painful massage, until he or she broke down in involuntary convulsions, which Reich called the “orgasm reflex.”
Though his school had already been running for fifteen years, Neill found in Reich’s work its ideological justification, and he once referred to himself as Reich’s “John the Baptist.” His many books are littered with references to Reich’s concepts of “character-armor” and “self-regulation.” For his part Reich saw Neill’s project as a practical test of his ideas, and he sent his own son, Peter, to Summerhill for a while. He once threatened to give up his research and come and teach at the school, but Neill laughed and declined his offer, saying that Reich would frighten the children. Neill did, however, ask him to be the legal guardian of his daughter, Zoe. Reich invited Neill to start an orgonomic infant research center at his research institute in Maine and encouraged him to replace his Summerhill staff with people schooled in Reichian practice. Neill rejected both suggestions, but continued to read aloud from Reich’s books at staff meetings.
Reich and Neill shared a belief in the redemptive power of unconstricted development in children. For Reich this had an urgent political significance: he thought that only when children were raised free would it be possible to lay the foundations of a utopia. Neill thought that a radical reform of the education system was an essential preliminary to the creation of a better world. Both men believed that children were inherently good: it was an authoritarian, sexually repressive upbringing that corrupted them. Summerhill was designed to offer children a sanctuary from the moral contamination of the world, where they could live out their desires without the fear of punishment and play without the pressure of indoctrination: “We set out to make a school in which we would allow children freedom to be themselves,” Neill wrote. “In order to do this we had to renounce all discipline, all direction, all suggestion, all moral training, all religious instruction.” The school’s motto continues to be “Giving children back their childhood.”
By the summer of 1944, Neill had begun to practice Reich’s analytic technique on his pupils at Summerhill. “I have given up teaching and am doing only veg.-ther. analysis,” he wrote to Reich. “The more I see the results with adolescents the more I consider that bloody man Reich a great man…Marvelous how patients weep so easily when lying on their backs. Some do so in the first hour. Why?” One former student remembers being instructed to lie down and “breathe deeply, as though you’re having sexual intercourse,” while Neill prodded her stomach (she was too young to know what sex was, so she just panted). “The repressed ones have stomachs like wooden boards,” Neill wrote to Reich of his pupils’ resistance, “but children begin to loosen up very quickly, and at once begin to be hateful and savage.”
The philosopher Bertrand Russell, like Neill, preached the benefits of an unconstrained childhood and campaign for new sexual mores. Neill said that Russell’s On Education (1926) was the only book on the topic he’d read without uttering an expletive. Russell spent a week at Summerhill in 1927 before opening a school of his own, Beacon Hill, based on similar principles. He was soon disillusioned, however, and left the school after five years. The children in his care, Russell wrote, were “sinister,” “cruel,” “destructive.” The effect of giving them their freedom “was to establish a reign of terror, in which the strong kept the weak trembling and miserable.” Russell’s own children, for whom Beacon Hill was partly created (it had only twelve pupils), were, like their father, traumatized by their time at the school. “I learned to get along inside a shell,” Kate Russell said, “fending off physical and emotional assaults from others and trusting nobody.” But for Neill, the monstrous behavior of children was a stage long the path to liberation: if they were “hateful and savage” it was only because they were sloughing off the final carapace of their repressions.
The accumulator that Reich gave Neill arrived in England on the Queen Elizabeth in April 1947, along with a smaller “shooter” box with a protruding funnel for directing orgone energy rays at infections and wounds. “I sit in the Accumulator every night reading,” Neill wrote appreciatively, “re-reading the Function of the O. while I sit in the box.” Neill soon became convinced of the machine’s effectiveness: “We used the small Accu on a girl of 15 with a boil on her leg,” he said. “It cleared up in three days, and we are to have her in the big box next term.” The effects apparently defied scientific explanation: “When Lucy had a new lump on her face under the operation scar, she applied the small Accu and it went in a fortnight,” Neill marveled. He bombarded Reich with questions: Was it safe to keep an accumulator in one’s bedroom? Did you have to be naked inside it? Would it be effective in the damp English climate? How long could his daughter safely sit in the box?
Neill’s daughter, Zoe Readhead, has run Summerhill since 1985. Neill was sixty-four when his only child was born; when she was two, Picture Post ran a story saying that of all the children in Britain, she had the best chance of being free. “I remember the orgone accumulator vividly,” she told me. “It was quite chilly in there because of the zinc.” As a child Readhead was prescribed half an hour a day in the device; she recalls the red plastic cushion she sat on and the funnel or “shooter” she was encouraged to position over her ear to try to cure a recurrent earache. She also remembers that as she grew up Neill lost interest in the machine (he thought he’d been mistaken in putting an extra layer of asbestos around it), and moved it to a corner of the garage.
By the time Reich died, in 1957, he and Neill were no longer communicating. In December 1954 Neill wrote, “It gave me a great shock to find you believing in visits from other planets. No, I said, it can’t be true; Reich is a scientist and unless he sees a flying saucer he won’t accept it as reality. I can’t understand it.” Reich, whose sanity had long been an open question (Sandor Rado, who analyzed Reich for a few months in 1931, said that he was “schizophrenic in the most serious way”), had started to suffer from paranoid delusions about the world being under attack by UFOs. The armor-clad orgone box was always something of a protective shield, illustrative of Reich’s sense of being besieged, but he now built a “cloudbuster,” an orgone gun that was designed not only to influence the weather - diverting hurricanes and making it rain in the desert - but to be the first line of defense against an alien invasion. It was a kind of orgone box turned inside out, so that it could work its therapeutic magic on the cosmos.
Reich initiated the break with Neill; his young son, Peter, who was spending the summer at Summerhill, told Neill that the American planes passing over the school had been sent to protect him, or so his father said. Neill replied that this was nonsense (there was a large U.S. air base nearby), and when Reich heard of Neill’s response he wrote to his remaining supporters that Neill was no longer to be trusted. In the American edition of Neill’s Summerhill: A Radical Approach to Childhood, published in 1960, all references to Reich were deleted because the publisher considered him too controversial. (The book sold two million copies in the United States.) But Neill never turned his back entirely on his friend’s philosophy, and long after Rich’s death he persuaded Zoe to go to Norway to have vegetotherapy with another of Reich’s disciples, Ola Raknes.
Reich died of a heart attack in Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary in 1957, eight months after being sentenced. If Reich’s claims were no more than ridiculous quackery, as the FDA doctors who refuted them suggested, and if he was just a paranoid schizophrenic, as one court psychiatrist concluded, then why did the U.S. government consider him such a danger? What was happening in America that led Reich to become an emblem of such a deep fear?
The critic Louis Menand described Arthur Koestler, with whom Reich shared a Communist cell in Berlin, as “a slightly mad dreidel that spun out of Central Europe and across the history of a bloody century.” Reich’s story traces a similarly erratic path, and looking back at his era can help to shed new light on it. Through the history of Reich’s box it’s possible to unpack the story of how sex became political in the twentieth century, and how it encountered Hitler, Stalin, and McCarthy along the way . Reich created the modern cult of the orgasm and, influentially, held that ecstasy was a point of resistance, immune to political control. Of course, the birth control pill - licensed by the FDA in 1957 (the year Reich died) for treating women with menstrual disorders - ultimately provided the technological breakthrough that facilitated the sexual liberation of the following decade. But Reich, perhaps more than any other sexual philosopher, had already given the erotic enthusiasm of the 1960s an intellectual justification, and laid the theoretical foundations for that era.
His ideas rallied a new generation of dissenters, and his orgone box, however unlikely an idea it may now seem, became a symbol of the sexual revolution. In January 1964, Time magazine declared that “Dr. Wilhelm Reich may have been a prophet. For now it sometimes seems that all America is one big Orgone Box”:
  • With today’s model, it is no longer necessary to sit in cramped quarters for a specific time. Improved and enlarged to encompass the continent, the big machine works on its subjects continuously, day and night. From innumerable screens and stages, posters and pages, it flashes the larger-than-life-sized images of sex. From countless racks and shelves, it pushes the books which a few years ago were considered pornography. From myriad loudspeakers, it broadcasts the words and rhythms of pop-music erotic. And constantly, over the intellectual Muzak, comes the message that sex will save you and libido make you free.
Time called this new “sex-affirming culture” the “second sexual revolution” - the first having occurred in the 1920s, “when flaming youth buried the Victorian era and anointed itself as the Jazz Age.” In contrast, the children of the 1960s had little to rebel against and found themselves, Time commented, “adrift in a sea of permissiveness,” which they attributed to Reich’s philosophy: “Gradually, the belief spread that repression, not license, was the great evil, and that sexual matters belonged in the realm of science, not morals.”
In 1968 student revolutionaries graffitied Reichian slogans on the walls of the Sorbonne, and in Berlin they hurled copies of Reich’s book The Mass Psychology of Fascism at police. At the University of Frankfurt 68er (as they were called in German) were advised, “Read Reich and act accordingly!” According to the historian Dagmar Herzog, “No other intellectual so inspired the student movement in its early days, and to a degree unmatched either in the United States or other Western European nation.” In the 1970s, feminists such as Shulamith Firestone, Germaine Greer, and Juliet Mitchell continued to promote Reich’s work with enthusiasm.
However, even in his lifetime, Reich came to believe that the sexual revolution had gone awry. Indeed, his ideals seemed to run aground in the decade of free love, which saw erotic liberation co-opted and absorbed into what the historian of psychoanalysis Eli Zaretsky calls a “sexualised dreamworld of mass consumption.” Herbert Marcuse, another emigre who became the hero of a younger generation, provided the most rigorous critique of the darker side of liberation. After his initial enthusiasm for a world characterized by “polymorphous perversity,” Marcuse became cynical about it, and he ended his career with a series of brilliant analyses of ways in which the establishment adapted all these liberated ideas (the “intellectual Muzak” of the time) into an existing system of production and consumption. Reich had propagated an expressive vision of the self, but his sexualized politics of the body soon dissolved into mere narcissism as consumers sought to express themselves through their possessions. In the process, as Marcuse was early in detecting, sex and radical politics became unstuck.
It is a testament to the popularity Reich once had that his name is still remembered at all - so many of his colleagues have been forgotten. But he is now known more for his mad invention rather than for the sexual radicalism that box contained. Reich’s eccentric device might be seen as a prism through which to look at the conflicts and controversies of that era. Why did a generation seek to shed its sexual repressions by climbing into a closet? And why were others so threatened by it? What does it tell us about the ironies of the sexual revolution that the symbol of liberation was a box?

2024.05.08 20:16 TheRealirony Looking at Naked/Street bikes (F900R, GSX8S, CB650R, MT-07, etc) for my next bike and I'm not sure what to get or prioritize for my use-case.

Over the last few days, I've visited 5 different dealerships in the area and sat on as many bikes as I could. I was able to test ride a GSX-8S but none of the others on the list below because of one rule or another the dealership had for their test rides (2 dealers didn't allow test rides at all, and the other 2 required active motorcycle insurance to test ride).
My main use case for the bike will be about a 50/50 split between commuting and leisure rides on the massive lengths of twisty rural roads I have around my home. The longest I spend on the bike in one sitting is 1-1.5 hours (mostly for the leisure rides as commutes are usually under 30mins). I don't do a lot of highway driving since I try to avoid highways on a bike around here due to traffic volume and quality of drivers in the area (and all the road construction going on usually). It would also be a plus if I can get a bike that either has a comfortable seat or aftermarket options to increase comfort for a passenger as my wife likes to 2-up with me about 60% of the time I go out on the leisure rides.
List of what I looked at and my brief thoughts
  1. Honda CB650R: I like the way the Honda looks and it gets a lot of praise in threads or on vids I've watched. My only concern with it was a few people mentioned that it only really comes into it's power in higher RPMs, but that doesn't seem like a big downside. I'm also put off a bit that it's not being sold here in the USA in 2024 and the foreseeable future. That worries me on how well it will be supported in the coming years as far as ease of finding parts or having it serviced/maintained. Outside of that, it seemed like a solid bike and it sounded pretty good with the engine it has on it. It's my #1 choice so far because I've heard it delivers the power pretty evenly and is easier to manage as far as output in the low-end.
  2. Suzuki GSX 8S: I mostly just like the way this bike looks and I've seen a few lists or vids put it in line or as a contender to the MT-07 in terms of enjoyment while riding and capabilities. The fact that it also isn't overly expensive is a plus. My only gripe with it is that it seems like it wouldn't really be that great or comfortable while 2-up and when I rode it solo in the test ride it felt very jerky with the throttle and power delivery, but that may just be my rust on not riding sport in over 6 years.
  3. :BMW F 900 R: I liked the seat on this one and the general feel of the bike. I also liked that it had a lot of interesting tech, plus cruise control and all the other modes/options. I also thought the passengepillion seat seemed a bit nicer than the other bikes I sat on. Also the BMW support seemed good on paper, but that might just be fluff or dealer BS. The downside is the price for the F900 with the premium package was $12k-$13k+ ish iirc. And I've read/watched reviews that have said that it's heavier which you can feel while cornering and that the engine leaves a bit to be desired.
  4. Trident 660: I like the way it looks and the seat feels comfortable enough, but I don't have much else to go on. This is one I wasn't able to test ride due to the dealer needing to see active insurance and I don't have a motorcycle policy currently since I sold my bike last year.
TL;DR: Looking for a bike that, as an experienced rider, I won't need to replace for many years (or at all). I want something fun to ride when I commute around town or take it out on twisty rural roads. It is a huge plus if the bike has decent suspension or nicer pillion seats for riding 2-up when my wife decides to tag along (or if there are aftermarket parts I can apply that will help with comfort). I realize that Street bikes aren't really meant for extended riding comfort like you get from a touring or ADV, but anything helps. Currently, the Honda CB650R is my first choice, but my only concern is that there are only 2 new ones for sale in my entire State and both are 2023. I learned that it's not being sold in the USA going forward (due to emissions standards?). I worry that if I get the CB650R, I'll eventually struggle to maintain or find parts for it since it's not being sold in the US after 2023. Not sure if that's an unfounded worry.

So I just got introduced into AJR last week, and after giving Tally Hall a chance, I decided to dive deep into AJR's Discography. I started with a few famous ones, like Weak, Burn the House Down, World's Smallest Violin, Yes I'm A Mess and enjoyed them. I'm Ready and Thirsty were okay. But after listening to AJR's first album, Born and Bred, I wanted to be deported to North Korea. Luckily, Living Room was an improvement.
However, so many people said this was the album that they started to know what they want to sound. So I had to give this one a chance.

And I know, noone asked for my opinion, this is dedicated to Unlikely_Conflict and if you don't wanna see my inhuman taste of music, keep scrolling.

Overture(Light W): Ok, I enjoy it, kind of, but less than Living Room's Overture. In the Living Room it felt heart-warming and welcoming. Horns and nice drums and a chill bass. But this has an EDM drop, which wasn't too great. Not looking too good for the album so far.
The Good Part(Light S): Does the beginning sound like someone stubbed their toe to anyone? Alright, anyways,
This is such a fun song. I didn't even mind the screaming of the lead singer. As a violin playelover myself, I couldn't give this song any lower than W after listening to that beginning. The theme in the song is talking about how they wish to have a button skip to the part where they become famous and a big hit. I could kind of relate to that, like I wish I could just live the best part of my life. Good theme, great even. Also, drop goes HARD. My legs were ready to leap up and dance one I heard, "Can we skip to the good part?" Lyrics? It was fine I guess. The verses were small and senstive, the drop is a banger, the chorus doesn't exist(unless its 1, 2, 3, 4), ending hitted me. The only complaints I have is please work on the chorus. It has nothing but the counting, which is just there, and that's it. Great song nevertheless. Also, the music vid was cute to say. Love the memories they had together as brothers, I assume?
Weak(S): First song I heard from the band, at first it was a catchy pop song. Now as a second time listener, it was nothing but a Banger. The piano guy really did good work here, I felt every note. The "One Sip/Kiss/Hit" heats up the song and the horns, Oh My Lord the horns. It's so good, I nearly felt horny. Anyways, jokes as side, horns are the super coating of this cake and its legendary. No surprise this got platimum. Anyways, lets talk about the lyrics. Well put, all of them. Lead Singer, great job shouting "But I'm Weak", my heart felt something whenever he shouted that. It sticks to the song theme and is thought through well. Great S-tier song.
Sober Up(Golden): Well, well, well, Mr Weezer, we meet again.I have spent hours trying to find a word from the English dictionary that can describe how good this song was. Safe to say, I wasted 10 hours of my life. This was their best song yet. I loved how it was produced, lyrics touched my heart and River did amazing here. Indeed Mr Lead Singer, how does it go again. Okay, lets slow it down. First of all, the beginning, the cello be gripping me in already. I play the cello and I adore it, so that may be no surprise, but this did take me in already. The "Hello, Hello" made of some interesting lyricism, talking about memories from childhood. Then, we get to the chorus, the gituar comes in CLUTCH. Lyrics could go deep here and that ending was incredible. "How's it go again." We transition back to the cello solo. Beautiful. The Drums also come along, accompanying the symphony and I got to say, it was glorious. Then we get back to the chorus but with the drums. We reach the bridge afterwards with a new solo for the cellist, and then Rivers Cuomo joins the party, with the best line from the album, "My favourite colour is you." That slammed me down and beated me to death. Finally, we were in the last pre-chorus, where everything dies down to just a few soft instruments accompanying the cello. Feeling the last pieces of hope left, he asked up if he could feel something again, before we were blasted with such a grand ending of the song. Everything is brought in and I couldn't resist dancing with lead singer as he sings with Rivers in the background. It finally end with a cliffhanger, "How's it go again." All I could say is, this is beyond beautiful, freest Golden tier for me so far. Music vid go pretty creative too and told a story with it. I love it so so much and I'm going to play it on repeat every day on my alarm. Great job AJR.
Drama(Low Mid): I didn't enjoy it too much. I guess the song was suppose to just be a head bopper. The theme of the song wasn't dealt well and production was ... unqiue. There wasn't much to say here, just a bop song. High hat goes hard here though.
Turning Out(Golden): A love song I could truely feel better than any Taylor Swift song I've heard so far. They did it again. Leave me Jaw Dropped and Flabbergasted. The love I have for the message of the song is impossible to be described by words. Its about finally being in love, but it felt nothing like what everyone had told you in the books and movies. And in no way am I putting this in S tier. Always dissecting time! We begin with another one of piano guy's great works, introducing to the mode of the song as something extremely heart felt. We get to the lore of the story, where lead singer says, "I hold you." He just met his love point, where he found out who he loves and already has feeling about something new. Something not right. "But I'm confused." Pre chorus, the piano is now added with accompaniments with some of the strings. and lets go piano guy, show them what you're made of. Anyways, Lead singer asks for help, get him in track and hoping to make this love work. What a way to show how you're feeling, I felt that struck my heart with a sharp ass arrow. Chorus, here comes the timpanist and hats off to him. Roll him the red carpets. He did AMAZING. Lead singer's voice turns from mildly passionate, to overload. It felt like he was spilling it on you. Love it. Verse 2 was just like verse 1, lovely. Chorus had a bonus section and I cherished it. He was really going all out. I could hear cracks in his voice singing all these lyrics raw from the heart. And finally, we got to the finale of the song. It starts with just as we began, just a piano, and we kept building and building from there. Here Lead Singer sings one of the most beautiful lines of the song, "I'm a little kid, and so are you." MAN I'M ACTUALLY ABOUT TO TEAR UP. He repeats this line and things start to build up. The electric guitar enter in, the vocals sifted up and the drums came back. And finally, everything comes back. Vocals are tripled, backing vocals, bring it in, everything, go go go. And then finally, we end withe everything fading away, Lead singer singing, "cause I'm still turning out." And it ends with a beautiful chord from piano guy. Again, beyond beautiful. And the only thing that could make me tear up was that music video. Such a beautiful story and something even described what I felt about the song, "Better than Twilight." AJR, my new favourite band.
No Grass Today(Low Mid): What in the world is this song? I'll admit, Turning out was something I wasn't ready for in all ways, but I think this is some of the craziest writing yet. It's talking about letting other's smoke their lungs out and flexing that he doesn't? I don't know what to say about this. I guess the only thing keeping this above L tier are that the instrumentals. The drums be cooking in this song.
Three Thirty(L): Bruh💀 Ed Sheeran is in the song. Otherwise this is a ... song. I didn't enjoy the instrumentals, the weird wind thing and the beginning could shut out someone's brain almost immediately. The lyrics were merely better than No Grass Today, like "I thought I had the ADHD, but that's a real thing, and I'm just lazy." It would be margining Burn it down, but the only thing keeping it up is the meaning behind it, the ending was pretty cool and Ed Sheeran, being one of my favourite music artists, being mentioned in the song.
Call My Dad(Mid): AJR went risky here, and I guess lead singer had to take a break cuz piano man had to take it over. I guess they were trying to put it with no coating, nothing but a vocaliser and very few things supporting it, making the meaning more powerful. But this kind of makes the song bland. The music video is pretty bland too, pretty cool, but bland.
I'm Not Famous(W): Ok, I know, it's weird that I like this song, but I dance with this. This just has a jazzy tune to it and I'm a Jazzy suck-up. Its not a song that I would usually relate to, or something I usually feel, but this is about how I enjoy the song as a whole, so screw it, this isn't getting anything lower than a W. Alright, let's talk about the song. The production, great as always, The drums gives it a kind of swing but straight beat to the song and the taberine replaces the high hat pretty well. The horns are the one that bring the energy higher up a notch and the piano was a great backbone to the song. Lyrically, this sounded similar to the earlier AJR boys. We could polish it up a bit better. That all, I might even say the mixing in the middle was alright too. And finally, the music video is crazy. They actually just filmed lead singer running around NY city with his PJs around? A W is out of question.
Netflix Trip(W): Alright, just to put it out there, I've never watched the Office before. I've watched like a few clips and episodes, but that's all. So maybe the judgement here may be off by a bit. Maybe its S-tier worthy. Anyways lets get into the song. For some reason, I think this was suppose to be filled with reflections and memories from the show. But really the only place that I knew that it was from the Office was when the name dropped Dwight. The instrumentals definitely show this. The sombre piano, loud drums, and swell horns makes this kind of uplifting but depressing mood. The lyrics are enbolden well. Some things like having your first crush and losing your grandpa and ... Dwight becoming the head of sales? Anyways, heart-felt song, W and even comes with a gorious line, "So don't you tell me it's just a show."
Bud Like You(Borderline W): Sea Shanty?
This was very close to getting a mid, like if I didn't like two more thing about this song, its getting slammed into mid zone. It's just an EDM song, not the best I could really dance with or listen in general. The only things that really keep it up are the message behind it, which I think it was pretty genius, and the beginning, which I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy a bit. Did not like the mixing in the middle though.
Come Hang Out(High W): We finally made it, the finale of the Click. What a bop bro, and what a relatable song. I'm not entirely sure if this was the intended meaning, but from my perspective, this talking about the stress of school, like high school and college, or maybe even just stress in general, like being in a growing band. You have to get things done, while your friends are partying and having the time of their lives, having parties and just hanging out. To me, the lyrics goes with the theme pretty well, especially when they brought back one of the most iconic lines in the click, "Should I go for more clicks this year, or should I follow the click in my ear." YES SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR
Anyways, noone can say that the instrumentals are an absolute bop. Maybe I didn't like the edm in the previous song, but this one I can get around. I could hear this in a party one day. Yeah, that's all I could say. Very close to S-tier, but if put a bit more heart tight lyrics into it, it would have made it in flawlessly.
Burn The House Down(W): Bro, I heard a really butchered, "You sticky pickle" when I first heard this in the mall. Anyways, this is just another one of those songs that blew up like weak, with the same kind of evil energy and all, However, for me this doesn't do as a good job as Weak. It was a song about taking action against their own haters, and quoting them, "burn gonna the whole house down." Horns carry the song, bass guy becomes one of the main characters in this song and the rest of the production makes this song a bop. Lyrically, I liked it, not as well as S-tier songs, but it was pretty well done. Also, it's X, not twitter.
Also, I would love to see houses burn down in the actual music vid pls. Thx
Role Models(Mid): I don't know what to feel about this song. Basically, it's about the brother's disappointment towards Kanye West? I don't know, I couldn't see what this is about. The instrumentals are just a simple guitar, vocals and a horn. That's it. Size didn't really matter in making instrumentals a piece of god's work, but this one didn't work out too well. The lyrics weren't as interesting other than the part when Kanye was mentioned, yep, that's all.
Normal(Light-S): This song is a sad one, in a good way. The piano sets the mood pretty damn well and so does the production. The strings, guitars and piano, gorgeous. Lyrics can touch the heart like a waterdrop into a pond. You can feel their singing. However, as much as I enjoyed this song, the theme doesn't really relate to me here. It's about their feelings about the times before they blew up from their release from I'm Ready and now they are thing where they were in the road of fame. I'm not famous, no.
Pretender(Acoustic)(S): I am a sucker for Acoustic tracks. Any good acoustic track, going straight to high W tier, and this made it to S tier. Lyrics in here, Lead singer was spitting. "I'm just like you" *OOOOOOHHH MY GOODNESS* Instrumental is so much better than Role Model, which actually has the same instrumentals, but it does it better, or conveys the energy so much better. The theme here, I can relate bit more. Pretending to be someone else because you don't seem that interesting. I can see that in me. Anyways, what an ending to the deluxe album, S-tier.
Overall: This was a massive, and I mean MOMUMENTAL step up from living room. A majority of it I would come back to, and even if there are some song I don't really enjoy, I really enjoyed the album as a whole. The first half was kind of the peak of the album, if we are ignoring drama, but that's a good song too. Golden tier are songs that I rarely give out, and this half managed to get two, TWO. Anyways, the next half was enjoyable. Ending was epic and deluxe was a lovely experience. Overall, fluke from Living Room, and leaves me wanting for more from the band.
The album gained itself a grand low S tier.
But if this was just AJR's beginning, then what does Neotheater, the peak of AJR, sound like?

Hey there!
I’m up a creek and would really appreciate some advice on how to pull up my nosedive.
Many years ago I was on the cusp of getting pretty into fishkeeping, but had a heartbreaker when my 75g that I’d bought from a friend popped a seal at 2am and long story short I lost everything in it and then life happened and I never found the right time to get another one.
Fast forward to now, and I talked my girl into letting me get a tank and after a fair amount of research this is what I came up with.
It’s a 55 gallon with organic soil base capped with black sand. For plants I’ve got the “starter pack” buffet of crypts and anubias, ludwigia green and red, orange juice rotala, anacharis, and a couple amazon swords. Dwarf water lettuce and red root floaters in rings up top.
Stocked with: 3 red honey gourami, various tetra species in groups of 6-10. They all started at 8 but with losses and additions over time but none are below “minimum” group. There are also panda and sterbai Cory schools
Twin hob filters throttled down, two sponge filters, 3x 250w equivalent 3000 lumen led floodlights and pressurized co2 through a diffuser.
I cycled with plants only and was processing 3-4ppm ammonia in the day multiple days waiting for fish to arrive in the mail. The water always tests 0 0 20-25 ammonia nitrite and nitrate. I assume the plants uptake the nitrate.
I decided that too late in the game that I wanted to go South American theme so I’m close but there’s some oddballs.
Now here’s where I’m really in trouble. My tap water is mega alkaline liquid rock. I have a liquid kit ph and nitro parameters and for now have to use strips for gh kh and tal. Ph is over 8, comes down in the high 7s with co2. Kh gh and tal peg the strip beyond their limits making colors not even close to the legend.
I researched this somewhat before I did it, but the prevailing attitude with fish everywhere I read was stable is I mportant and other than that tank bred fish will be okay. I believe that to be true, within limits and I think I’m outside those limits.
So now here I sit with all in close to a grand in aquarium and I can’t get a plant to grow, I have every algae under the sun growing (wife HATES the algae which as how I got away with the pressurized co2 expense) and worst of all even with a solid nitrogen cycle I lose fish periodically, I suspect because of the water.
I’ve got a reasonable start at a black water South American planted tank complete with catalpa leaves and peat filtration with African cichlid dream parameters. If I could go back in time I would’ve done just anubias and an mbuna tank but I was scared of “aggressive” fish and didn’t put enough weight into leaning into the water I have.
So Reddit master aquarists….what the hell do i do?

20f I have been sad since as long as I can remember even as a child, I have never fit in or thought the way that anybody else did I always had different opinions and different outlooks on life I have almost never been happy, and every time I’ve have been happy it has been immediately followed by emptiness It started with low self-esteem and low confidence because I was never skinny or pretty growing up. I was always overweight . my teenage years were the worst. A little bit of backstory the women in my culture are born and bred to clean cook, have babies and respect their in-laws. Once they get married people in my culture, usually get married between the ages of 15 to 20 some younger some older I only went to kindergarten. I taught myself how to read and write and do basic math. This is the way it has always been for my people never really a part of society, always living by their own rules, and having their own ways their own justice system. A very strict group of people. I will not say what the race/ethnicity is but from what I know they originate from India, and traveled all across Europe
I started having suicidal thoughts at 13 I didn’t go to school or have any friends pretty much all I would do all day is help my mom with my two younger brothers and clean and cook and learn how to be the perfect daughter-in-law I always wanted to get married. I thought that it would make me happier and I thought that if I just left my parents I’d finally feel free. I was still always sad and depressed. And fat I met my now husband at 16. And when I was 16 I finally realize that nothing was ever going to change about how I felt and that I would never feel happier. I started cutting myself then. I knew there was always something wrong with me, but I could never figure out what besides depression. I don’t have any joy. I don’t have any hobbies. There’s nothing that I wanna do and there’s nothing that can keep the sadness away. I always want to die even when I’m out of the house with friends or with my husband nothing makes me happy nothing I feel empty at all times and I see the bad in everything never the good, I don’t want to have children I don’t want to put them on this earth to be sad like I am I don’t want to get older I don’t want to live any longer but I’m too afraid to kill myself. I’m afraid that if I kill myself, the person that will find my body will forever be traumatized, I don’t want to inflict any pain or harm to anyone. I don’t want my parents to bury their only daughter but I cannot continue living like this. I wake up and I ask god why did he allow me to live another day I go to sleep, and I pray for death, I don’t want to talk to anyone or answer the phone it exhausts me and I feel like I’m pretending to be a person that I’m not. Everybody thinks that Im mean and spaced out but they don’t understand it’s because I don’t want to be here I don’t want to exist, I don’t want to breathe. Everything is an issue and a problem I feel like I have the reverse Midas touch everything I touch turns to shit I don’t like telling people how I’m feeling or what’s wrong because how much can you say that you don’t know why you’re sad you just are .
I wish that I was born any other race Except for the ones that are similar to mine I know there is others out there where the women are born to be wives and nothing more.
I think that if I was born to be an average white woman, and went to school and graduated college, and had a job, if things would be different that if I had the tools to take care of myself financially, and live alone, somewhere that I would be happy but instead, I have no education no means of supporting myself, and expected to have children and clean and cook and be a good wife for the rest of my days it all feel so hopeless I dread the day that I ever have a son because that means that one day he’ll have a wife and she’ll be in the exact spot that I am in I don’t want to have a daughter because she’ll go through the exact same things that I do my husband is of the same ethnicity as I am, and was raised the same way that I was I don’t want to have children to raise them that way but choosing not to have children is not an option I’m hoping that I’ll die before then I do not want to be responsible for another person’s life. I have no care of my own. How am I supposed to care for another persons? I don’t feel like I have any maternal instinct I don’t really care about anyone around me. I care if they’re healthy and that they’re OK but other than that I really don’t feel anything. I don’t even like it when people talk to me I don’t want to talk back. I am alive, but I don’t feel like I’m living and sometimes I don’t even feel like I’m real. I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop in for something bad to happen. I’m constantly paranoid and anxious. I just wish that I was born something different or that I didn’t exist at all.

EDIT; Since posting this, I’ve properly thought about why it’s made me feel so uncomfortable. It’s been a bit of a ritual for me to watch a smosh vid, read 5-15 of the top comments, and have a chuckle at them, then read my book and go to sleep (in the U.K. so smosh video releases are in the evening and my job finishes at 8pm)
It’s not the repetitive nature of the joke, more that the joke itself is just not funny. Idk about you guys, but Mrs Topp and Mr Miller aren’t funny - they’re both regressive. At this point, with hundreds of the same joke being made in comments and on Reddit, it feels nasty af.

Like,, they’re married. Shayne is the Topp, Courtney is the Top, we get it. I am SO HAPPY for them, and I hope they have a long and beautiful married life together with individual AND collective successes.
BUT,,, they have expressed they don’t want anything to change. While that may not be fully possible, can ppl seriously not stop themselves from posting marriage jokes, the “Mr Miller” one in particular?
It’s basically a gender-flipped “Mrs Topp” comment - Court doesn’t want “Shayne’s wife” to be her identity, it’s equally unfair to repeatedly comment ‘Courtney’s Husband’ as a joke over and over. It’s been over a month - think of new material!!
Am I being oversensitive or is this a valid take? I just see them both as talented comedians and actors, and am so so so so happy for them!!! But they’re not Mr & Mrs anything to us as fans, who don’t know them personally, they’re Shayne and Courtney who do funny ha ha’s on YouTube!!
