I am (26f) going to marry a man (let's call him Kaive) (31m) in 2 months. Ever since I was 12 my parents left me to babysit my 4 siblings and take care of them, they had their college paid for and I had to take out many student loans. Basically they left me to grow up on my own (I had the worst childhood) and I still remember the days I used to cry after doing all the household chores, I couldn't do my homework and my teacher would punish me for that. I was just 15 then. My siblings had comparatively all the love and comfort my parents could give. I was struggling financially and I struggled throughout the college, my parents couldn't bother to check on me neither helped me out financially. They were pretty well off. 6 months ago I met Kaive on a dating app, I wasn't looking for any relationship and just a place to stay so I don't become homeless. Kaive wasn't the most handsome guy but pretty good looking, he was pretty rich (generational wealth), his parents wanted him to marry their business associate daughter and he didn't wanted to. They gave him ultimatum that either he marry her or marry someone otherwise he'll get kicked out of their inheritance. He told me due to his parents pressure he decided find a girl who could agree to the arrangement of being married for 2-3 years and the divorce without any alimony and with prenuptial agreement. After 2-3 dates, he spilled the beans and I also told him, I wasn't looking for any love but just a place to stay. Within few days we shared all of our issues, we both discussed and came to a conclusion that I want to be taken care of, I don't want to live in stress all the time to get kicked out and be homeless. We both had the deal, that he can sleep with anyone he likes and I won't interfere in his business and in return I will be the SAHW, all the bills paid and I'll do all the household chores. I agreed to his no alimony/prenuptial agreement demand and he'll be paying for my degree (since due to lack of money I had to choose a really shitty major which I wasn't interested in college). I was ready to sign prenuptial agreement and agreements where I agreed that I won't be asking for any alimony or any settlement. I told him, I'm fine with the fact that I'm a gold digger and I'm using him for money. He told me, it's fine and he don't care.

I have made a post regarding ideas that fall on the ridiculous/silly side of the tone scale, and I have made a post regarding the exact side that has nothing but serious stories, so now, the compromise.
Basically, this just means that the AU idea is neither too serious nor too silly: it’s 50/50 on both, though yes, the story can tilt to the other side other time, which I highly advise looking up the term Cerberus Syndrome for.

Other than that, same as with the darkest and ridiculous AU ideas post, meaning just state the basic idea, and even give it a name if you want.
However, I will state this: there is a key difference between an AU and an alternate continuity, alternate timeline, and what-if scenario, that being scale of impact. In order, what-if scenarios are the most limited in their impact and don’t even get a place next to the podium, much less receive a medal, alternate timelines get the bronze medal, alternate continuities get the sliver medal, and alternate universes stand on the top of the podium at first place wearing the gold medal.
I’ll state my idea first to try and provide an example. My idea, currently named For Want Of A Nail, Mario, which I only recently started on regarding the planning phase because I actually have a decent liking for the idea, which is an alternate universe where the basic idea is that Mario’s character development from the Waluigi Arc and onwards sticks without him going back at all, with the same applying to other characters who underwent character development/growth. However, the elements of using fan fiction to fix things I don’t like is kept as minimal as possible, mostly just involving rerailing character personalities to having more than one-trait (example: Bob actually becomes humbler after the Rapper Bob arc) like they do now, removing episodes or post-Anime story arcs, and also just throwing whatever at the wall and seeing what stuck, which if anyone asks about what stuck? Er… you’ll see.

I am sitting in one of the disused but quite beautiful parts of the neighborhood, waiting for it to rain.
The rain has already come and gone, a light rain that left traces of dampness on the pavement – the shade of the spring day darkens, becomes real, which is a comfort because that realness, that feeling of extra substance, comes from the water cycle working the way it's supposed to.
I feel it around my nostrils, on the cheeks of my face near the eyes, like I'm a frog looking up from its pond water, which is a pleasant feeling to sashay around town with. This is the spring we all know, the moisture appearing on my skin after driving miles above the earth ten minutes earlier –
an epic plunge is what we are walking through, but it's already rising again, and let's face it – we live in a cook pot set on media, I mean medium – medium is the setting on the cook pot, which notice is more than a crock. From the frog’s point of view, it is ideal.
From our point of view, standing in the chop of the water cycle, we are soaring in the air – then minutes from now, we might be walking in the clouds, and who knows after that, but this is the context for comings and goings this mid-afternoon – this potential for levitation.
I find a broad and elegant tree stump to sit on and record the concrete. Someday we'll all have concrete recorders but today, we just have me.
The stumps are not indigenous to the property, at least I don't think so, but I'm not exactly sure why I don't think that, given that the facility that occupies the block was once probably a forest with abundant marshy places. The forest went, then some infrastructural evolution played out that upcycled into a world-class performing arts center.
Given that my art, before it is anything, is performative – watch the monkey paint words with a stick – I'm hand-in-glove with the performance of the plaza.
I am sitting in a grove of tree stumps, which automatically brings to mind entropy – we all will die someday, become handsome all-weather furniture that slowly disintegrates – but then the overwhelming pleasantness of the day causes the thought to move on, and the stumps become a moment in time that is also a cross-section of full biography, which is quite a thing to be sitting on, waiting for the rain.
The forecast, which I predict would be one of the more impressive modern achievements to the humans who lived through the ice age – just an opinion. The forecast –
I picture their faces in stunned wonder as weather prediction after weather prediction comes true. The forecast
says there is a one-hundred percent chance of rain later this afternoon, time precise to the quarter hour, but with Doppler weather radar, one can make one's own data-driven prediction about when the rain will start to the nearest few minutes.
Someday we'll wear watches that are nothing but countdown clocks ’til the next time the forecast calls for rain – when the clock reaches the nearest minute, it switches to seconds.
This broad, elegant stump I'm sitting on sets on a bed of gravel which, when it rains, can convince me it is river gravel – pick up a few of the rounded stones, give them a close look for evidence of the past. I briefly imagine
finding the remains of a sauropod, each piece of gravel containing a tiny piece of a single sauropod, which together add up to the most complete sauropod skeleton yet discovered.
The stump is all take and no give, and yet I think I prefer it to popping open a lawn chair – the imperviousness of the stump being conducive to recording the concrete.
My backside is about eighty-years wide, which is older than my age, which inspires thoughts about backing into predestination, at least where just sitting around on a fine spring day is concerned. Like a bump on a log in a way, and let's face it – the concrete doesn't get much more concrete than that. A splashing sound
comes from the page. I scan the paper like it’s the sky, and I'm waiting for an aerial firework to open, then I find the spot of rain splashed across the phrase think so – think so, is the phrase – which is followed by a second raindrop, this one hitting the word water, causing the ink to run a little.

This being the Midwest, higher elevations are usually metaphorical, metaphorical before they are anything else, and I think about the campus surging with graduates this past weekend, the landscape of human potential, in all directions, inundated by them.
Inside now, I see a balloon bouquet along one wall of the concourse, with gold Mylar affirmation – The Best Is Yet to Come! – floating on the end of a ribbon.
A one-hundred percent chance of rain – imagine telling all those graduates, you have a one-hundred percent chance of finding love within a fortnight. Call it a graduation gift, then imagine all those rain gauges quivering in their brackets at the thought of measurements certain to be made, collated, used to improve the algorithms that animate the global gods of rain.
At the far end of the concourse, a lady is teaching a gentleman how to dance – they aren’t touching, aren’t even facing each other – side-by-side – and I hear her call out the moves, move-by-move.
Maybe he’s an actor and she’s going over a certain bit of choreography for an upcoming production. Maybe he’s a restless spirit, and she’s teaching him the art of haunting.
That ghost forest in the gravel outside is adjacent to one of the busiest intersections on campus, and yet, turn your back to it, and it becomes just another element in the stopping and starting of the cosmos.
I could see to either end of the block from that broad, elegant tree stump I was sitting on without really being seen from the street which, along with a lush stand of grass in a nearby raised garden bed, brings to mind the wide-open prairie from centuries past.
I picture deer bounding over golden rod. I picture foxes negotiating cone flowers.
The interior of the performing arts center is designed around the premise of potential – four theaters in league with the cardinal directions, plus a blindingly white amphitheater and a low stage in the concourse itself, where they hand out complimentary spliffs and pass around community bongs during free upbeat life-affirming musical programs, attended by folks after the workday is over, plus a helping of retirees.
Okay, not grass but alcohol, but you get the point – people enjoy shindigs now and then. The lady and gentleman are out of sight, but she’s still giving direction – I can hear their back and forth somewhere around the curve in the wall,

Preformed white concrete panels are suspended twelve feet off the ground to establish the roof of the entrance. Ninety-degree angles abundantly in evidence. Brick pixelates the angled outer walls with the stuff of the earth. Ultra-high resolution, they call it around the masonic lodge.
Someone in the amphitheater is having their photo taken by a professional – everyone loves to do photo shoots there. She is wearing dark knee socks, a navy jumper and a blue bowl haircut, or maybe it’s a wig – I can’t tell from here. I picture anime or promotional material for this fine spring day.
A squirrel bounds through the grass – then poses in front of me, paws together, as though summoning oration.
A robin alights on the stone cladding of the raised beds, begins to stand exclusively on its left leg. The leg is angled under the center of mass – it’s a practiced move.
No one knows why the American robin does this – maybe it’s like bird meditation, though the memory of the American robin is so specifically extraordinary when it comes to navigation and geospecific locations that effectively, at the sensual level on up, it is living in a reality separate from our own, so who knows what meditation might mean.
They can see the magnetic fields of the earth in their eyes using a protein called cryptochrome, which reacts to magnetism. Cryptochrome – like something from the Marvel universe.
Maybe when the American robin stands on its left leg, it’s spacing out to the daytime reality of solar storms, the whole environment all aflutter with a phenomenology of waves passing around the material world.
The robin and the squirrel go their separate ways, and I feel the temperature drop – ah, me! the pasodoble! – as the next part of the front crosses campus.
A peel of thunder indicates the breaking of the sound barrier by means of electromagnetism and the displacement of gasses. Electromagnetic properties experience disequilibrium as a kind of earthquake in the sky that causes the air to vibrate in an awe-inspiring way – the sound magnetic fields make when they rearrange themselves in a gaseous atmosphere.
We are fluid dwellers, through and through, we humans and mammals and reptiles and amphibians and lichen gnawing on patches of the plaza’s concrete. Maybe from the standpoint of the atmosphere, land is just one big coral reef.
When that perfect destiny began to drop rain, the sound at first was curious, expectant – an all-squinty-eyed-and-kissy-faced sort of rain began to fall that grew into a snowy hum that seemed to have a simple song playing inside it, like someone playing a ukulele in the room next door, singing along.
The gig carries on for twenty minutes or so – an opening act – before the rain begins to march double time through the streets – barely soldiers even when they were soldiers.
Less tactic and more matador, this rain storm, and its boot heel crashes down on the planking of the still-lovely spring day. These magnetic storms are not

American robins also configure their flight by the stars, by remembering features on the land, by creating mental maps of it all.

I've been mostly lurking here for a year and learning lots, so thanks for everyone who has shared and answered questions for noobs. I started my aquaponics adventure with a Aqua sprouts 10 gallon kit which for me has been a great place to start. Now I want to move to a bigger setup outside. Primary goal is to have fun, continue to learn new ways of gardening, all while keeping it look nice enough to not piss off my wife for taking over the patio. Not planning on harvesting fish.
Here is my plan, working from the bottom up.
I have a 100 gallon stock tank for the fish. Going with mostly (or all) comet gold fish because they can survive the cold winters and poop a lot, and i'm not eating them. I plan on using a substrate in the tank of soil covered with sand and rocks for fish to hide. Maybe one day I'll do aquatic plants if this project progresses well enough. I already have an air stone, which might be way to small, but will be ready to adjust if oxygen levels are too low.
I plan on using a 10(ish) gallon pot to hold a bog filter to remove solid waste.
For plants I am planning on 4" PVC pipes for NFT setup. I would like to also do a small media bed for cucumbers or larger plants but might add those later.
The plan is to use two pumps, one for the bog filter and one for the NFT water movement, both will empty into fish tank.

- Is the bog filter the right choice for aquaponics system? I've mostly seen it in pond applications and not sure if it could get in the way of the nitrate/ nitrogen cycle.
- Still haven't figured the fish to plant ratio but was going to start roughly with the "one pound of fish biomass for every three to five square feet of plant growing area."

Construction progress key performance indicators At the end of Q1 2024, overall construction was 98% complete, compared with 86% complete at the end of Q4 2023. The new water treatment plant was substantially mechanically and electrically completed in Q4 2023 with some minor areas remaining. The MBBR circuit was substantially complete in Q1 2024 and will begin full commissioning as the process plant continues to deposit tailings into the TSF and feed nitrogen species into the MBBR circuit. The site power reticulation was completed in Q1 2024. Sustaining capital works in 2024 will focus on reticulation to the Premier portal as well as the Big Missouri portal. Mine development Procon Mining & Tunnelling (“Procon”) a mine contractor with extensive experience in BC and the Golden Triangle continued to advance mine development at two portal areas: S1 about 9 kilometres north of the mill which accesses the Big Missouri and Silver Coin deposits, and the mill adjacent Premier Northern Light (“PNL”) portal which accesses the Premier and Northern Light orebodies. As of the end of Q1 2024, Procon had about 57 people on site, 40 of whom were miners and 10 were maintenance personnel. At Big Missouri, Procon advanced development into several ore headings in the A zone, as well as reactivating the S1 ramp heading that goes to Silver Coin deposit. In Q1 Procon developed 936 metres at Big Missouri (258 metres in ore and 678 metres in waste, and by April 29, 2024, development advanced to 905 metres in waste and 507 metres in ore total in 2024. Including the development completed in late 2022 and late 2023, the total development to date is approximately 2,710 metres in both ore and waste. Productivities at Big Missouri have continued to improve, with availability of key equipment such as Maclean bolters being made a priority. During Q1 2024, the geological team continued to encounter high grade material occurrences in both face sampling and probe hole drilling in multiple areas of the A zone. As previously reported, these occurrences are in or very near existing wireframes or logical extensions of wireframes. At the end of March 31, 2024, a total of approximately 30,000 tonnes of ore was mined from Big Missouri and stockpiled at Diego pit. At PNL, Procon dealt with issues related to near surface structure and weak ground. These issues seem to have abated at the end of April, and Procon has started to make better progress as they move into the better ground conditions expected at Premier given what was seen historically. In Q1 2024 approximately 85 metres were advanced at PNL, and at the end of April this increased to approximately 150 metres as ground conditions improved. Mining development is being advanced down into the Premier deposit for initial mining in the Prew Zone, with ore development now anticipated to begin in early Q3 2024, and initial longhole stope production following later in Q3 2024. The ramp has been strategically laid out to allow for underground drilling on the Sebakwe Zone in 2024 and will eventually connect a footwall ramp over to the 602 area at the southern end of the Premier deposit. Although progress has been slow, the quality of the resultant work with ground control and shotcrete arches has been excellent, allowing for a secure and stable ramp for the life-of-mine production to come from this area approximately 350 metres from the Premier Mill. Recruitment At the end of Q1 2024, total site recruitment has reached approximately 90% of the planned operational team. A key achievement was the successful recruitment for some challenging roles pertaining particularly to some of the maintenance roles, health and safety (specifically, mine rescue), and technical roles for the mine and processing area. Policies and procedures development have been ongoing throughout Q1 2024 and key documents will be rolled out in Q2 2024. Permitting and Environmental Compliance A Joint Permit Amendment Application (“JPAA”) was required to be re-aligned with the project completion dates and was submitted in October 2023. The JPAA underwent first round comments through February 2024 and second round comments were received in late April 2024, with our responses anticipated to be submitted in May 2024. The air permit was received on March 25, 2024. The updated environmental permit PE-8044, including the sewage treatment facility discharge permit is anticipated to be received in late May 2024. 2024 EXPLORATION PROGRAM Planning for the 2024 exploration program is in full swing with an anticipated start date in late June. There are several areas on the properties that will be targeted by new drilling. Near the Premier mill, several drill holes have been planned around the Prew and Sebakwe zones of the Premier deposit. The new holes will complement the existing drill pattern at Prew and test induced polarization geophysical anomalies from last year’s survey. Additional drill holes have been planned for the Big Missouri deposit where underground development is rapidly providing access to different parts of the deposit. The new holes will be designed for resource conversion and mine plan addition at this deposit. Specific new drill targets have been identified at the Day Zone on the western edge of the deposit, where geophysical anomalies seem to outline previously untested mineralization along strike of known ore zones. Additional exploration drill holes are targeting a large geophysical anomaly to the west of the Dilworth deposit that extends surface showings to the north onto Ascot’s PGP property. This target has a large strike extent and may require drilling over more than one exploration season. The Company anticipates a drill program of between 15,000 and 20,000 metres distributed over the areas described above. The program will require utilization of two drill rigs into late September or early October 2024. FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THE THREE MONTHS ENDED MARCH 31, 2024 The Company reported a net loss of $6,208 for Q1 2024 compared to $7,589 for Q1 2023. The lower net loss for the current period is primarily attributable to a $2,170 decrease in the loss on extinguishment of debt and a $1,196 decrease in financing costs, partially offset by increases in other expense categories. LIQUIDITY AND CAPITAL RESOURCES As at March 31, 2024, the Company had cash & cash equivalents of $47,028 and working capital deficiency of $33,030. GameStop and popcorn stock were going to indicate a jump in price today no matter what, due to the shorts' lid temporarily coming off.SHF bringing back a zack morris twitter (to artificially promote popcorn stock) and DFV twitter (to artificially promote GameStop) on this exact day is no mistake. Clearly bizarre, these mysterious promotions were then bullishly-shared (and given pats-on-the-back, cheering for meme stocks all of a sudden??) by the bought-media entities CNBC, WSJ, etc. Further adding to the evidence, the gambling subreddit's moderators arbitrarily decided to click off their suppression of GameStop and popcorn stock, only for today?? The preponderance of the available evidence shows that these mysterious 'X' accounts were used as smokescreens (attempts to preemptively justify) why the stocks "soared" today. It allows funds to get ahead of the MOASS curve by causing a fake sneeze.  | okay so I have been going over lore again and have once again opened up the pandoras box that is identity swapping. There are a few theories I'm running with, and I'll explain them below. submitted by unfortunatelymade to IdentityV [link] [comments]
Additionally for this theory we have two other identity swaps: Nightmare and Memory. Both of these are connected to Orpheus, Nightmare being a manifestation what Orpheus imagines his 'evil' half as, and Memory as the manifestation of his childhood memories with Alice. We also have the case of Clown, where we are told that Margaretha mistook him as the Smiling clown, Sergei, under the influence of drugs in her 2022 letter. This is probably the most explicit mention of a hunter being a hallucination we get, but there are still some points that I think are worth mentioning that I will get to later. In all of these scenarios, the hunters aren't actually real but instead just illusions manifested from the characters' point of view. With this theory, we can confirm which version of the character is 'canon' and which one is fictitious. For all of these scenarios, there is no identity switch where the hunter version is canon. This isn't to say that there are no hunters at all however, as we know several hunters are 100% without a doubt canonical. For instance, both Mad eyes and Bonbon are completely canon to the manor, as Burke is one of the main architects ensuring the manor's functionality and even interfering with certain games as necessary. Bonbon, as a creation of Burke's, is also a real concrete hunter we know for certain exists in canon. I wouldn't say we should worry that all hunters are 'actually just drug induced hallucinations' because that isn't true. I do hope we get more identity swaps that go the other way though, where the survivor isn't real.
This seems to imply that Luchino is in fact going through some kind of metamorphosis of his own, after all he had his reality shattered by the existence of Seer having powers beyond his comprehension, and what seems like something that echoes the exposition of supernatural forces. It's also worth mentioning that we have no written media from Luchino as a hunter, at least not as far as I've seen. It is entirely possible that this is because during this second game, he had already lost his mind and become the lizard man we all know and love. This would also confirm the existence of the gods at lakeside (Who I am assuming is either feaster or dream witch, I don't know enough on their lore to speak on it) which would also be a plausible cause for him going full lizard. Weeping clown also has a potentially similar deal, where we know that he was once a pathetic circus clown, and described as being a thin man hence his Weeping Clown form being real at one point in time. The issue I have with him is that there's some parts worth calling out to give credence to the hunter Clown being real as well, but also parts as mentioned above where it seems to be implied to also be a hallucination. I thought these details were worth calling out regardless. There is however a peculiar segment in Mike's diary he specifically remarks that his face is the same as he remembers it. This detail is interesting because it calls out 'his face', which we know is the face of Sergei that Weeping clown stole in a fit of revenge after killing Sergei. It is possible that Mike mistook him for Sergei after his 'metamorphosis' into him. In the same passage, Mike also comments "Ugh, their deformed bodies used to bring people joy. Why are they so scary now? I don't want to think about it anymore!" which can also be an additional indication that the 'clown' in his game is already the hunter we have now. This however could also just be an off hand comment about how they act now, it is difficult to tell. With the above mention of Margaretha hallucinating him as Sergei, that also doesn't completely remove the idea that he isn't the clown we see now. Margaretha continued to stay in touch with Joker after Hullabaloo burned down, so it wouldn't be a stretch to say that him undergoing this slow transformation into someone who could essentially replace Sergei for her is out of the question either. She would still recognize him as Joker despite this physical transformation, but would only hallucinate that he actually was Sergei under the influence of drugs. Either way, it is a little vague but I still felt it was all worth bringing up. So... yeah that's basically my thoughts about the lore regarding identity swaps right now. Technically both of these theories can coexist, but it would feel a little inconsistent if both existed at once. It's a bit troubling though because Luchino is such a clear outlier of the initial 'character perception hallucinations' theme. We don't have anything about a character imagining him as evil reptilian, and even less about his second game, plus with the game outright stating that supernatural events exist it doesn't seem entirely not plausible that Lizard Luchino never existed. I'd love to hear everyones thoughts about this tbh! I don't see many people discussing it since it always gets washed into 'well it's an unreliable narrator deal so we can't expect to know everything' or 'well netease is just bad at writing lore' because we do have a lot of pieces in place that mesh well together, I think it's just a matter of putting the pieces together and figuring out what is and isn't real. Bonus content: based on my theories, here's a list of characters I think will and won't get identity swaps. Will be interesting to be proven very wrong in the future. How current identity swaps work, usually a character needs to have probable malice for someone to imagine them as a hunter or be looked at with enough reverence in the eyes of a character for them to imagine them as a survivor, or in reality probable reason to imagine that they were once a real normal human and not a monster, or has the potential to BECOME a real monster. To give context, I (18F) was a virgin. And I wanted to change that. I didn't want the regret and unfamiliarity of a one-night stand and naive-virgin-me wanted to be 'experienced' for my first relationship. So FWBs always struck my attention when it came to losing my virginity. So I went to the holy grail of hookups - Tinder.
And that's where I matched with 'Dave' (21M). After a week of barely-small talk, I plucked up the courage to ask him to pick me up from a friend's house. He calls me (to make sure I'm not a serial killer) and as soon as he gathers I'm a normal person, he immediately asks 'how do you feel about sex?' so naturally, I thought, that's what he's only looking for?
We meet and the red flags are very clear. 1. Tells me his usual type is blondes with blue eyes (I'm very black) 2. His bodycount was 20+ and he later confessed he lied and it was 30+ (not an issue but why lie?) 3. Says his dream girl would be a virgin (with the kind exception of ONE guy) 4. Hated body hair.

Here is the chart that illustrates this thinking; you can clearly see the basis for "A great human revolution in just a single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation and, further, can even enable a change in the destiny of all humankind". There is no scientific basis for this kind of delusion; ignorant people just LIKE believing it. "Look how IMPORTANT and INFLUENTIAL I am!! Everything is all about MEEE!!!" The Soka Gakkai has been in existence (in a continuous state) for some 80 years now; if this sort of thing DID happen, we'd see it. We already know Ikeda had such high hopes for his followers, but the truth is that the membership never lived up to Ikeda's expectations. No "world leaders" emerged from Soka Gakkai ranks; they didn't even become rich! That simply isn't something that happens because of "this practice", no matter how much Ikeda misled all the gullibles. Daimoku is obviously NOT "the perfect solution for all problems".
Here Ikeda likens the Soka Gakkai practice to the magic lamp of the "Aladdin" story. And it only works for Soka Gakkai members, of course.

So much for the supposed "novelty" of Dickeata's supposedly eternal "clear mirror guidance", eh? Oh, and EVERYBODY owes Scamsei and the SGI their eternal gratitude, too, and you NEVER EVER get to finish your "human revolution" ("self-cultivation")!

Back when Japan's medical system was primitive, with limited availability, the new religions advertised "faith healing", as seen above and here. But as medical care improved and, most importantly, became widely accessible, that became people's healing option of choice, so the new religions (and all the rest) had to drop it as a selling point, because nobody was buying it any more. Within the ignorant and indoctrinated ranks of SGI members, we can STILL see claims of "faith healing"; they apparently don't realize this isn't a compelling sales pitch any more. Except that in house, the superstitious, magical-thinking culties still eat it up with a spoon 🙄
But you can see Ikeda here explaining that medicine is unnecessary to treat various ills; there must be a "faith" component or the treatment will inevitably be ineffective. OR that having faith will make even a nonsensical nontreatment effective! Also slamming medicine as harmful and condemning members as somehow "deserving" of terrible illnesses.
And remember when Ikeda told "girls" they didn't need to go to college? That was fun. And how Icky denigrated university graduates??
Let's not forget how the Soka Gakkai has always been anti-union and has never established any charitable services anywhere, not even for the needy within its own struggling membership.

The contemporary religious scene in Japan is commonly divided into the "established religions" (kisei shūkyō) and the "new religions" (shinshūkō). These categories are further divided into Buddhist- and Shintō-derived varieties of each as well as into further subcategories.The titular "Kurozumikyō" is a Shintō new religion founded in 1814 by the Shintō priest Kurozumi Munetada. As of this publication, it had a total membership of 220,000.
Founded by a priest of the "established" Shintō tradition, it is one of the oldest of the so-called new religions and seems to combine aspects of both new and established types. (p. 3)A source I read recently noted that the Soka Gakkai grew from poaching members of other new religions; it seems this demographic was the most fluid and changeable of Japan's religious demographic. However, at just 30% of the population, even if the Soka Gakkai had managed to claim 100% of these new religions' memberships, it would still have fallen short of Ikeda's self-defined minimum requirement of 1/3 of the population.
THE NEW RELIGIONS OF JAPAN
The new religions and their members represent an important and distinctive sector of Japanese society. In spite of the great variety of their doctrines, new religions share a unity of aspiration and world view significantly different from those of secular society and from the so-called established religions. New religions constitute the most vital sector of Japanese religion today and include perhaps 30 percent of the nation's population in their membership. (p. 3)

The new religions tend to recruit their following through evangelistic proselytization and dramatic conversion, at least in the first generation. They promise followers "this-worldly-benefits" in the form of healing, solution of family problems, and material prosperity. In ethics they emphasize family solidarity and qualities of sincerity, frugality, harmony, diligence, and filial piety. Between laity and leaders there is only a vague dividing line, and for the most part, anyone may acquire leadership credentials, including women. Frequently the new religions recognize no sacred centers but those of their own history. (pp. 5-6)While the Soka Gakkai initially embraced pilgrimages ("tozan") to the Nichiren Shoshu Head Temple Taiseki-ji, their regular activities were centered on Soka Gakkai buildings ("kaikan", or "centers") rather than on Nichiren Shoshu temples. In fact, this was an early source of conflict, as the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood justifiably questioned WHY the Soka Gakkai was putting so much more effort and resources into building NEW Soka Gakkai centers than on building Nichiren Shoshu temples, which would have been the proper function of any religion's legitimate lay organization. Add to that the bad optics of Ikeda's cult's attempted steeplejacking of established Nichiren Shoshu temples, and there was DEFINITELY something rotten in Denmark, so to speak. The Soka Gakkai's focus was trained on IKEDA rather than on the priests of the order they supposedly belonged to as a lay organization. That's some fucked up priorities and it was only a matter of time before that became an open, obvious problem. Of course Ikeda hoped to delay that reckoning until he was in a position to seize the entire Nichiren Shoshu religion for himself. Too bad, so sad, the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood headed him off at the pass and spoiled all his beautiful plots.
The world view of the Japanese new religions conceives of the individual, society, nature, and the universe as an integrated system vitalized by a single principle. Every level represents the manifestation of that principle on a larger scale. The relationships among the levels, however, are not static. They must be maintained in balance, harmony, and congruence. These qualities are manifested in conditions of happiness, health, social stability, abundant harvests, and regular succession of the seasons (free of such calamities as flood, drought, and major earthquakes). The opposite conditions (unhappiness, illness, social unrest, scarcity of food, and natural disasters) are symptomatic of a lack of harmony or congruence. Everything is interconnected so that a change in one dimension, no matter how small, eventually ripples out and affects other dimensions in a larger context. Religious practice is a striving for continuous integration of self with the body, society, nature, and the universe. This involves careful management of the most basic components: the self, the faculties of mind and emotion, and the personality. (pp. 11-12)This thinking was the basis for Nichiren's Rissho Ankoku Ron, or "On Establishing the etc. & whatever".

Although the new religions inevitably adopt the system I have just described, they state it in different idioms. They may use Buddhist, Shintō, or colloquial terms for the self, calling it variously the kokoro (heart-mind or heart), konjō (guts), *reikon (spirit), tamashii (soul), and other terms. Similarly, they may name the principle vitalizing all existence by Shintō, Buddhist, or other terms: kami-nature, Buddha-nature, karma, ki, yōki, and so forth. They may predicate the existence of a variety of supernaturals who exist on a different plane than human beings, intervening in human affairs from time to time. These may be kami, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, or ancestors. Alien to the system is the notion of a single deity standing outside the whole and manipulating it by means of an unknowable will. The supernaturals of the integrated system are subject to its rhythms and generally conform to its principles. The system is compatible with a variety of cosmological ideas and world pictures, including horizontal and vertical cosmologies seen in Japanese myths and in Buddhism's many-tiered realms of existence. (pp. 12-14)Because "Earthly desires ARE enlightenment", right?? And all that other Buddhism stuff, well, that's all obsolete now, "as useless as last year's calendar", right??
Because self-cultivation is the primary task of all, textual erudition, esoteric ritual, and the observance of abstinences are rejected or relegated to secondary significance.
The notion of kokoro is a hallmark of Japanese culture, and it is the central pillar of the world view of the new religions. Consider the following proverb, one that could be endorsed by the new religions and is a stock saying in secular society: "Both suffering and happiness depend on how we bear the kokoro." Kokoro is borne or carried in a certain way, good or bad, and according to that we suffer or are happy. We are in control. An ordinary, nonreligious interpretation of this proverb would say that our attitude toward circumstances determines in large part whether we are happy or unhappy, or that an attitude of "positive thinking" can improve our experience of unfavorable situations even if the circumstances are not thereby altered. And remember - NO COMPLAINING!!Even a man who has great wealth, social recognition and many awards may still be shadowed by indescribable suffering deep in his heart. On the other hand, an elderly woman who is not fortunate financially, leading a simple life alone, may feel the sun of joy and happiness rising in her heart each day.An interpretation of the proverb among the new religions is likely to be much stronger, to hold that human beings certainly have the power to be happy, depending solely on the manner in which one bears kokoro. We need only exercise that power by self-cultivation.
Moreover, the idea that circumstances can be changed by the power of diligently cultivated kokoro is pervasive. It is a question not only of a change of attitude but sometimes of radical material change, such as an improvement in economic situation or a miraculous healing. It is understood that the cultivated kokoro has the power also to change external persons and events, and that nothing is impossible. Exercising the full power fo the kokoro is possible for anyone who practices self-cultivation through the spiritual disciplines of the particular religious group. (pp. 19-20)Isn't that the whole basis for the idea of "human revolution"? How else could anyone understand "You can chant for whatever you want!"? The idea that other people are mirrors makes the individual totally responsible in all circumstances. Although the burden is heavy, there is also a tacit message that the self can control any situation. Placing blame and responsibility on the individual also denies the idea that "society" can be blamed for one's problems; hence concepts of exploitation and discrimination are ruled out of consideration. On the whole the new religions are uninterested in political action to improve society; to them it is a question of individuals improving themselves individually and collectively through self-cultivation. (p. 23)Remember, this author ISN'T talking about Soka Gakkai here! This a feature of ALL Japan's new religions!
Since self-cultivation is the primary determiner of all human affairs, notions of fate or divine wrath (karma or bachi, for example) are reinterpreted, ignored, or denied.Or introduced when necessary to blame a member when the promises of SGI leaders are proven empty and false. It's always the MEMBERSHIP's fault somehow, never that the teachings are wrong or deceptive.
In like manner, because of the primacy of self-cultivation, the concept of pollution cannot be fully credited, and this opens the door to greater participation by women than is the case in the established religions.In the case of the Soka Gakkai, "greater participation by women" has been implemented as "greater exploitation of women". The women of the Soka Gakkai were expected to deliver daily newspapers for no pay throughout the Soka Gakkai's history; it is only recently that their numbers have declined so catastrophically and they have aged so much that the Soka Gakkai finally had to contract with a delivery service - which of course Soka Gakkai has to PAY now. Newspapers are SO much more profitable when you can find some suckers to deliver them at no cost to YOU!
Thus the new religions stress unquestioning performance of their established disciplines, fully aware that the demand for uncomprehending obedience (at least iat the beginning) will cause the convert frustration. Also involved as a minor theme is the pedagogical principle that "physical action can be perceived as isomorphic with spiritual change." Thus, for example, polishing floors can be assumed to "polish" the self. If one enters through form, eventually the kokoro will follow.Speaking of exploiting women, who else heard that when women were cleaning the toilets for free at the local SGI center, they were "cleaning their karma"??
The hardship entailed is not to be avoided; no one denies that it is punishing to polish floors by hand, recite sutras, or endure cold water ablutions. Hardship in itself is virtuous and confers compassion and maturity.Isn't that the essence of SGI's much-vaunted "youth division training"? Basically, it's SGI leaders getting off on forcing young people to do all sorts of scut work and to engage in unpleasant activities just because they can - somebody has to do the grunt work, right? Make THEM do it! Tell them it's "training" when actually it's just training them to allow themselves to be exploited. For a funny example of this attitude, see how this colossal doofus was trying to cajole and coerce his employee into joining SGI before he aged out of the youth division, so he could get him some of that gooooood "youth division training"!!

All problems can be traced to insufficient cultivation of self. Thus it is misguided to expect fundamental social change from political ideology. Instead, society can be improved only through collective moral improvement, the doctrine of meliorism. Similarly, attempting to cure disease simply by treating the body alone is useless. Healing can come about only through rededication to ethical values; hence medicine is effective only in a provisional way. Education and secular achievements apart from faith and cultivation of self are houses of cards, castles on sand. Accordingly, media-sponsored presentation of thoroughly secularized views of life are disapproved. (p. 14)You can see the clearest examples of this thinking in the teachings of Ikeda and the Soka Gakkai from the 1960s, before people understood how immediate and pervasive "political ideology" could effect fundamental social change, as in the US when the anti-race-mixing "anti-miscegenation" interracial marriage legal prohibitions were swept away in the US Supreme Court's 1967 judgment on "Loving v. Virginia". That changed society more fundamentally and pervasively than any religion's doctrines that people's "hearts" must be changed FIRST before anyone could hope to see societal change realized, or in the terms above, "collective moral improvement". No. Remove unjust laws and establish penalties for behaving unjustly, and voilà! Society changes!

Back when Japan's medical system was primitive, with limited availability, the new religions advertised "faith healing", as seen above and here. But as medical care improved and, most importantly, became widely accessible, that became people's healing option of choice, so the new religions (and all the rest) had to drop it as a selling point, because nobody was buying it any more. Within the ignorant and indoctrinated ranks of SGI members, we can STILL see claims of "faith healing"; they apparently don't realize this isn't a compelling sales pitch any more. Except that in house, the superstitious, magical-thinking culties still eat it up with a spoon 🙄
But you can see Ikeda here explaining that medicine is unnecessary to treat various ills; there must be a "faith" component or the treatment will inevitably be ineffective. OR that having faith will make even a nonsensical nontreatment effective! Also slamming medicine as harmful and condemning members as somehow "deserving" of terrible illnesses.
And remember when Ikeda told "girls" they didn't need to go to college? That was fun. And how Icky denigrated university graduates??
Let's not forget how the Soka Gakkai has always been anti-union and has never established any charitable services anywhere, not even for the needy within its own struggling membership.
This was a primary issue within the Soka Gakkai that festered until Ikeda brought it to a full boil out of his obsessive desire to BE the object of worship. The Soka Gakkai/Nichiren Shoshu alliance, while expedient for the Soka Gakkai and undeniably profitable for Nichiren Shoshu, was nonetheless an uneasy alliance, given the Soka Gakkai's defining characteristics as a "new religion" and Nichiren Shoshu's "established religion" status. Those two simply don't mix. Especially on this last point, you can see that it is a characteristic of a "new religion" to have the fundamental attitude that "priests are unnecessary". Ikeda simply wanted to USE Nichiren Shoshu for his OWN convenience, in service to HIS plans, instead of directing the Soka Gakkai to function as a legitimate lay organization whose focus was their religion, Nichiren Shoshu. Ikeda made it all about himself and his goal of maximizing his own power and control. Ikeda was never a religious person.Lacking justification for a strong differentiation between the religious lives of priests and laity, the tendency to make the laity central is strong and pervasive. - One thing about business—it’s never static. Early on, I launched a product line that flopped so hard it could’ve made the ‘Top 10 Entrepreneurial Fails’ list. It taught me to pivot fast and listen even faster. Adapting isn’t just about new ideas; it’s about shedding old ones that don’t work.
- Customer Engagement. Listening to my customers. I mean really listening, not just nodding along while mentally rehearsing my next pitch. Feedback is gold, even when it’s tougher to swallow than overcooked steak.
- Designs. Oh boy, did I have ideas! Initially, I thought every design I dreamt up was a hit—until reality checked in. I soon realized the power of audience interaction; I started conducting polls, gathering feedback directly on social media, and iterating designs based on what people actually wanted.
- Developing a community around your brand can provide invaluable feedback and foster strong customer loyalty. A loyal community not only supports sales but can also act as brand ambassadors, spreading word-of-mouth endorsements.
- Quality cuts through the noise. I learned to focus less on how often we launched and more on what we launched. Quality over quantity meant transforming our products from ‘nice-to-haves’ to ‘must-haves’.
- People connect with stories, not sales pitches. I learned to weave our values and visions into our brand narrative. When people see why you care, they care about what you see.
- My go-to resources: shoutout to Canva for making my design ideas look professional (and saving me from my disastrous Photoshop attempts), Boost App Social for being a lifesaver for our social media efforts, and a solid CRM for helping us manage customer relationships effectively. I've also relied heavily on Mailchimp for keeping our audience engaged through email marketing.
